- 1:00Speaker 1: basketball game tonight. I say that half in question. That
- 1:03Speaker 1: is tonight, right? That is tonight, yes. Yes, that is tonight.
- 1:06Speaker 1: So that's happening tonight. We're back with no quad boxes tonight.
- 1:10Speaker 1: If you want to tune in, I think we're on
- 1:11Speaker 1: the Hibbets YouTube channel. Is that correct again? I do
- 1:14Speaker 1: believe that is correct, yes. And you can still get
- 1:16Speaker 1: tickets for that or for the wonderful game tomorrow night
- 1:20Speaker 1: Between Alabama and Ole Miss, exhibition basketball in town, ball
- 1:23Speaker 1: and bat well. Before we talk about what we saw
- 1:27Speaker 1: last night, I want to get into the biggest college
- 1:29Speaker 1: football game that we have happening this weekend. And there's
- 1:32Speaker 1: a lot of ranked on ranked matchups, but none is
- 1:35Speaker 1: bigger than Ohio State at Indiana this week. The SEC's
- 1:39Speaker 1: had the main stage a lot of weeks, but this
- 1:42Speaker 1: is the Big Ten's big game of the year. You
- 1:45Speaker 1: have Ohio State, perennial power. playing indiana defending national champions
- 1:49Speaker 1: it's in bloomington and last year it was indiana beating
- 1:53Speaker 1: ohio state in the big 10 championship game here is
- 1:56Speaker 1: kirk signetti on just having this big game in bloomington indiana.
- 2:02Speaker 2: This obviously is one of the biggest home games in
- 2:05Speaker 2: iu football history at least modern iu football history your
- 2:08Speaker 2: thoughts on what you guys have done to just elevate
- 2:10Speaker 2: the program to this level to bring a game of
- 2:12Speaker 2: this magnitude to bloomington for the fan base Well.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I mean, winning does a lot of good things, and
- 2:17Speaker 3: I think that's what's happened. And, you know, you've got
- 2:20Speaker 3: an opponent coming in here that's used to winning and
- 2:22Speaker 3: winning championships and as strong a brand as there is,
- 2:26Speaker 3: you know, in America, high state football for years and
- 2:29Speaker 3: years and years. So, you know, we're a team that's
- 2:34Speaker 3: developing still, and I'm sure they would say the same
- 2:37Speaker 3: thing about their team. And, you know, it ought to
- 2:40Speaker 3: be a great environment.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Great environment. I can only imagine what it's going to
- 2:44Speaker 1: be like Do you picture Indiana having an intimidating home
- 2:47Speaker 1: field advantage?
- 2:48Speaker 4: Well, I know this is really going to shock you guys.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Memorial Stadium opened in 1960, and this is the first
- 2:54Speaker 4: ever top five matchup. in Memorial Stadium in Bloomingdale.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Takes two to tango, right? Who's responsible for that?
- 3:00Speaker 4: I think that's more so Indiana.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I guarantee you Ohio State's rolled in their number one
- 3:04Speaker 1: plenty of times.
- 3:05Speaker 4: Michigan and Michigan, yeah. They've won 19 straight at Memorial.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Kirk Cignetti has never lost a game there. They've won
- 3:11Speaker 4: 22 straight games overall. I mean, again, we'll continue to
- 3:14Speaker 4: say this until one day maybe Indiana ducks out of
- 3:17Speaker 4: being one of the elites. But it is maybe the
- 3:20Speaker 4: most incredible story, at least that I've ever seen, covering
- 3:24Speaker 4: college football.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Okay, so say that again. Sig has never lost at home.
- 3:27Speaker 4: He has never lost at home.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Never lost at home. And was it Clatt Monday that
- 3:32Speaker 1: was like, just go look at their splits, home and road,
- 3:34Speaker 1: how much better they play at home. Now, I'd have
- 3:37Speaker 1: to go back and look, and I'm willing to do
- 3:39Speaker 1: that over the last two years. what is the best
- 3:42Speaker 1: opponent they have played at Memorial Stadium? They haven't exactly
- 3:45Speaker 1: played a murderer's row there, Lance.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I can tell you right now.
- 3:49Speaker 1: The best I can remember offhand, and Scott is showing
- 3:52Speaker 1: us a photo of just that intimidating environment there. I mean,
- 3:55Speaker 1: it's not a bad little stadium. You think you can
- 3:57Speaker 1: see a tree from inside? That's your test. For those
- 4:00Speaker 1: that are new to our show on Daily Wire or
- 4:03Speaker 1: Sporting State, Jim Dunaway has a test of a real
- 4:07Speaker 1: college football stadium or not. If it's a real college
- 4:10Speaker 1: football stadium... You cannot see a tree from inside. If
- 4:14Speaker 1: you can see a tree from inside the stadium, from
- 4:15Speaker 1: the field. I think, sadly, I said, I don't think
- 4:18Speaker 1: if you can see a tree from inside the stadium,
- 4:20Speaker 1: you're a national championship program. And they proved me wrong
- 4:23Speaker 1: last year. They proved you wrong very quickly on that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But basically, your rule is if you're standing on the
- 4:27Speaker 1: field and can see a tree outside the stadium.
- 4:29Speaker 4: 50-yard line.
- 4:29Speaker 1: If you're on the 50-yard line, you can see a tree. Yeah,
- 4:31Speaker 1: it's not a real stadium. It can be intimidating. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think you can see a tree right there. If
- 4:36Speaker 1: a bird... can see inside of the game from sitting
- 4:39Speaker 1: on a branch, a squirrel, then it can be intimidating.
- 4:41Speaker 4: So this year, the toughest opponent has been Northwestern, and
- 4:45Speaker 4: Northwestern is a ranked opponent right now for whatever that's worth.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a good game, too. It was a
- 4:49Speaker 1: Friday night game. Northwestern had an opportunity to win it.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Last year, their most difficult test was No. 9 Illinois
- 4:57Speaker 4: in Bloomington. They won by 53.
- 4:58Speaker 1: That's a top 10 win. By 53?
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm going to say maybe Illinois was a touch overrated there.
- 5:05Speaker 4: If you go back to 2024, it was Michigan 2015.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Was Michigan ranked at the time? Yeah, they won 20
- 5:10Speaker 4: to 15. They were not.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 4: Yeah, they only played one ranked or two ranked teams
- 5:14Speaker 4: that year, and they lost both Ohio State regular season
- 5:16Speaker 4: and then Notre Dame playoffs.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So you're telling me they have this whole run, they've
- 5:20Speaker 1: played two ranked teams there.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Is that what you just told me? And paper tigers.
- 5:24Speaker 1: One was Northwestern and one was Illinois. Not exactly. I
- 5:27Speaker 1: don't want to scoff at the ranked teams. I'm sure
- 5:29Speaker 1: people would do this. Oh, Missouri. I'm sure they would
- 5:32Speaker 1: do that about an SEC team. I get it. Here's
- 5:35Speaker 1: Ryan Day because the last time these two teams played,
- 5:38Speaker 1: it could have impacted Ohio State's run, different path to
- 5:42Speaker 1: a national championship. But here's Ohio State's Ryan Day on
- 5:45Speaker 1: if there's any revenge, a little payback, a little growing
- 5:48Speaker 1: anger or grudge between Ohio State and Indiana.
- 5:53Speaker 4: How do you handle emotions of revenge?
- 5:55Speaker 1: The guys that were here, do you talk about it
- 5:57Speaker 1: at all?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Does that factor into the emotions going into this game?
- 6:00Speaker 1: I think.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Everybody has their own thoughts and emotions, but I think
- 6:05Speaker 5: as we talked on Sunday and we'll talk again today
- 6:08Speaker 5: here in the team meeting, nothing that happened in the
- 6:09Speaker 5: past has anything to do with what's going on this weekend.
- 6:12Speaker 1: We can learn from the past.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Some of the guys who played in that game can
- 6:15Speaker 5: learn about all the reasons why we came up short,
- 6:18Speaker 5: and that's fine, and that's good, but the focus has
- 6:21Speaker 5: to be on right now, and that's it.
- 6:24Speaker 1: So that's what we're going to focus on, and that'll
- 6:26Speaker 1: be the best for the team. What do you think
- 6:28Speaker 1: the Ohio State players that played in that game last
- 6:30Speaker 1: year learned about Indiana that carries over to any Cignetti team?
- 6:34Speaker 4: I think they learned from year one under Sig that
- 6:38Speaker 4: they didn't have as much skill. The skill has gotten better.
- 6:41Speaker 4: They've always been physically tough, but I just think they've
- 6:44Speaker 4: gotten better players. Now, this roster I don't think is
- 6:47Speaker 4: as good as last year's roster, although... I don't know
- 6:51Speaker 4: how far off it is. Now, Mendoza was a difference maker.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I think Josh Hoover is a good, solid college quarterback.
- 6:57Speaker 4: He's not Mendoza. But I do think Ohio State just
- 7:01Speaker 4: has learned how physical this team is over the last
- 7:03Speaker 4: couple of years.
- 7:03Speaker 1: But I think where– and we talked about this the
- 7:05Speaker 1: other day, and we talked about it with Klatt. I
- 7:09Speaker 1: think where you're going to see the biggest difference is
- 7:13Speaker 1: in the defensive backfield. They don't have– D'Angelo Pines, undersized,
- 7:18Speaker 1: was that boundary corner, and Klatt was talking about this.
- 7:21Speaker 1: If you watched the Nebraska game, Klatt was talking about it.
- 7:24Speaker 1: The Barney kid, I was going to pull up his
- 7:26Speaker 1: numbers because he had a good game, and he is
- 7:29Speaker 1: nothing close to Jeremiah Smith, but the Barney kid for
- 7:34Speaker 1: Nebraska had nine catches, 108 yards. I mean, he was
- 7:39Speaker 1: a stud in that game against Indiana Saturday. And now
- 7:43Speaker 1: you've got Jeremiah Smith coming in. So I do think
- 7:47Speaker 1: there's some yards to be had against that Indiana secondary.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You know, it's funny. You usually say one thing that
- 7:51Speaker 1: surprises you when you play a team is their speed.
- 7:55Speaker 1: I just didn't know they'd be that fast. You'd have
- 7:58Speaker 1: to adjust to that. Rarely is it. Man, they're a
- 8:00Speaker 1: lot more physical than I thought they were going to be.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And I think Indiana did that to Ohio State last
- 8:04Speaker 1: year in the Big Ten championship game. They definitely did
- 8:06Speaker 1: that to Alabama in the Rose Bowl. I think Alabama players.
- 8:10Speaker 1: by the end of the first half would probably have
- 8:13Speaker 1: told you we were not expecting to get pushed around
- 8:16Speaker 1: like we got pushed around by this team.
- 8:18Speaker 4: Well, you think about this. You go back to the
- 8:20Speaker 4: Big Ten championship game last year in Indianapolis. That was
- 8:23Speaker 4: the last time that they had trailed in a football
- 8:26Speaker 4: game until last weekend in Lincoln. So think about, they
- 8:30Speaker 4: went through that entire college football playoff run without trailing
- 8:33Speaker 4: for one minute. They finally trailed last week, and I
- 8:35Speaker 4: think it was actually good for Cignetti's bunch, especially going
- 8:38Speaker 4: into a game like this to be down double digits
- 8:40Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter, hostile environment, and be able to
- 8:42Speaker 4: come back.
- 8:42Speaker 1: 100%, because you saw how they responded. Nebraska was the
- 8:46Speaker 1: better team for 55 minutes of that game, 50 minutes
- 8:51Speaker 1: of that game. But then when, as the coaches say,
- 8:55Speaker 1: when it came nut-cutting time, Who was the best team?
- 8:58Speaker 1: It was Indiana. And Nebraska shrunk in the moment. Jackie Sherrill,
- 9:01Speaker 1: one of the coaches that would always say that. I've
- 9:04Speaker 1: got questions about quarterbacks on a lot of big games
- 9:07Speaker 1: this week.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Real quick, on the Indiana pass defense, it is right
- 9:11Speaker 4: there with Georgia. I mean, it's not great, but they're
- 9:13Speaker 4: only giving up 188 yards per game.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Some of that's who they play. I get it.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Like Aiden Childs, Anthony Calandria. I mean, not great quarterbacks.
- 9:21Speaker 4: This will be by far their biggest test. But I'm
- 9:23Speaker 4: just saying, it hasn't been bad yet.
- 9:25Speaker 1: It hasn't been bad yet. It could change coming up
- 9:28Speaker 1: on Saturday. I want to ask about quarterback advantages, but
- 9:31Speaker 1: I want to tell you about our friends at Hard
- 9:33Speaker 1: Rock Bet, Florida's only legal sports book. Hopefully you jumped
- 9:36Speaker 1: on last night and played a little of the Jack
- 9:39Speaker 1: State action. Jack State a winner last night. 27-24, last
- 9:43Speaker 1: second field goal. Middle Tennessee with a big win last night,
- 9:47Speaker 1: beating Delaware, both three-point winners, depending on whether you got
- 9:50Speaker 1: them at three, three-and-a-half, two-and-a-half. Some winners there or losers,
- 9:54Speaker 1: depending on where you were. But Hard Rock Pet is available.
- 9:57Speaker 1: In the great state of Florida, in fact, they're the
- 9:59Speaker 1: only legal sports book and therefore the most trustworthy option
- 10:02Speaker 1: in the state of Florida. They're also available in the
- 10:05Speaker 1: great volunteer state of Tennessee. Good old Rocky Top enjoys
- 10:09Speaker 1: Hard Rock Bet. You can too. Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan,
- 10:13Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia as well. With football being back,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's the best time of year for bettors because you
- 10:18Speaker 1: get a little baseball, a little NFL, a little college football,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and some basketball as well, all happening at one time.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And you can enjoy the new features, the app updates,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and promos like the one you see on your screen
- 10:28Speaker 1: where you bet $ 5, you get up to $ 500 in
- 10:30Speaker 1: no-sweat bets to get details and to find out if
- 10:35Speaker 1: you're eligible in whatever state you live, just go to
- 10:38Speaker 1: hardrock.bet backslash clay, hardrock.bet backslash clay, and see what you
- 10:44Speaker 1: can do today with our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 10:47Speaker 1: So I'm going to bounce around through a couple of games,
- 10:50Speaker 1: and you tell me quarterback advantage in each game. Now
- 10:53Speaker 1: some of this, I'm going to ask you to, however
- 10:57Speaker 1: you want to do it, but obviously some people have
- 11:00Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith and some people don't. So however you want
- 11:03Speaker 1: to skew that factor in. Some people have a great
- 11:06Speaker 1: offensive line, some don't. But we'll start there in Bloomington,
- 11:09Speaker 1: 11 a.m. on Fox. Quarterback advantage in this game, Julian San,
- 11:14Speaker 1: Josh Hoover, and Wyne.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I'm going to go Julian Sayen just because of the accuracy.
- 11:18Speaker 4: I mean, Hoover has not turned it over yet, which
- 11:21Speaker 4: is great, but I also look at the experience on
- 11:23Speaker 4: a higher level for Julian Sayen, and I do think
- 11:26Speaker 4: it helps.
- 11:29Speaker 1: The gap's not that big at receiver.
- 11:30Speaker 4: No, it's not because when you do Charlie Becker and
- 11:33Speaker 4: Nick Marsh, because you really don't have that complimentary No.
- 11:36Speaker 4: 2 guy. You haven't needed it with Jeremiah Smith. So, yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 4: I don't disagree when you get the combination of those
- 11:42Speaker 4: two guys to that one guy, but I would definitely
- 11:44Speaker 4: say Julian Sane just because of the accuracy.
- 11:46Speaker 1: If you're going to want to talk parts around him,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think where the biggest gap probably is is Bo
- 11:51Speaker 1: Jackson at running back for Ohio State with him being black,
- 11:55Speaker 1: not being back for Indiana this year.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe have been pretty good.
- 12:01Speaker 1: But I think Bo Jackson's the best. He's probably the
- 12:03Speaker 1: best of the backs.
- 12:05Speaker 4: So another thing to watch out for, you know, you
- 12:08Speaker 4: guys watched the game last week, but they were down
- 12:10Speaker 4: two offensive starters. Now, Ryan Day hasn't said, he said
- 12:13Speaker 4: a lot of these guys will be available, but he
- 12:15Speaker 4: hasn't specifically said which guys. And, you know, there were
- 12:18Speaker 4: a couple of sacks and a fumble from Sayan last week.
- 12:21Speaker 4: So this is going to be a better defense that
- 12:23Speaker 4: he will face.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And those guys are on the offensive line, correct?
- 12:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 1: That's something to keep an eye on as availability reports
- 12:29Speaker 1: start jumping out this week. Speaking of which. There's no
- 12:32Speaker 1: doubt in my mind in Mississippi State LSU, the best
- 12:35Speaker 1: quarterback in the game would be Kamario Taylor. But as
- 12:38Speaker 1: you've been hinting, today is the first of the availability reports.
- 12:42Speaker 1: This will be the first alarm bell that should go
- 12:44Speaker 1: off today about Kamario Taylor.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Let me shake my crystal ball and look in it.
- 12:48Speaker 4: I think you will hear an announcement that Kamario Taylor
- 12:50Speaker 4: has had surgery.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Can you elaborate any more on that, Lance?
- 12:56Speaker 4: I think the expectation would be to be back by Texas. OK,
- 13:03Speaker 4: but don't be surprised if you hear that today.
- 13:05Speaker 1: OK, there was. So do you expect it to show
- 13:09Speaker 1: up out? Doubtful and questionable first on the availability report
- 13:12Speaker 1: because they've been slow playing. It's been leaking out yesterday
- 13:15Speaker 1: that there could be some issues with Camario Taylor. You've
- 13:18Speaker 1: been up front all along that that you didn't think
- 13:21Speaker 1: he'd play in this game. And now you're dropping the
- 13:24Speaker 1: surgery word. The S word?
- 13:27Speaker 4: You know, I'm just not going to be surprised at
- 13:30Speaker 4: all if it comes out today that Kamario Taylor has
- 13:32Speaker 4: had surgery and Parker Puckett will be your starting quarterback.
- 13:35Speaker 1: So Chris Lowe, who will be on the show later,
- 13:38Speaker 1: yesterday tweets of Kamario Taylor, turf toe injuries are tough
- 13:41Speaker 1: to come back from in a short period of time.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So that might indicate. And by the way, turf toe,
- 13:49Speaker 1: it's the worst named sports injury. It is not like
- 13:53Speaker 1: you've scraped your toe or something like that. It's actually
- 13:56Speaker 1: a limit. It's a broken toe, right? Or a broken toe, yeah.
- 14:00Speaker 4: And maybe the broken toe gets translated to a broken
- 14:02Speaker 4: foot or vice versa. Whatever I had heard a couple
- 14:05Speaker 4: of weeks ago, but don't be surprised at all. I
- 14:07Speaker 4: would lean that you're going to hear that. But you
- 14:09Speaker 4: already had the bye week off. You get LSU off.
- 14:12Speaker 4: You get Oklahoma off. And Texas is coming up on
- 14:16Speaker 4: October 31st. And you know with sports medicine, things are
- 14:19Speaker 4: much rapidly done now as opposed to back in the past.
- 14:23Speaker 4: So you can have a procedure. We've seen it before.
- 14:26Speaker 4: And you can come back within a month.
- 14:28Speaker 1: All due respect to Puckett, that gives advantage in the
- 14:30Speaker 1: quarterback to LSU. And the few snaps he came in
- 14:33Speaker 1: and took against Alabama, he looked like he was treading
- 14:36Speaker 1: water in the deep end. Oh, he was. So we'll see.
- 14:38Speaker 1: We'll see what he looks like.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I'll just tell you this. Hard rock bet, go in
- 14:42Speaker 4: and lay it.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Because you will not be able to get the price
- 14:46Speaker 4: you're getting right now.
- 14:47Speaker 1: When that story comes out?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I mean, how big will that go? What is it
- 14:51Speaker 1: right now?
- 14:52Speaker 4: It's pretty heavy. I think it was 11 and a half.
- 14:54Speaker 1: The last time I checked. So if story comes out
- 14:56Speaker 1: today or when the– Availability report comes out tonight.
- 15:00Speaker 4: It's actually 13 and a half. I mean, it continues
- 15:01Speaker 4: to go up.
- 15:02Speaker 1: So it's already been leaking a little bit. So if
- 15:03Speaker 1: Taylor is listed, it's out on the availability report.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Probably 15 and a half. Okay. I was going to go.
- 15:10Speaker 4: But I mean, that's a key number. So 13 and
- 15:12Speaker 4: a half right now. Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Florida, Texas. If I asked you, Florida, Texas. Philo. Arch Manning,
- 15:20Speaker 1: who has the quarterback advantage. Philo's at a wall, unfortunately,
- 15:23Speaker 1: for Philo.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Even if Philo was playing like he was, I would
- 15:26Speaker 4: still say Arch at this point. I know we've completely
- 15:29Speaker 4: shit on Arch the last couple of weeks, and maybe
- 15:32Speaker 4: even going back further, I have. But I still think
- 15:34Speaker 4: he's a more talented guy. And then you look at
- 15:36Speaker 4: all the skill around. Now, Vernell Brown coming back would
- 15:39Speaker 4: be big for Florida. I don't know what has happened
- 15:41Speaker 4: to Jaden Bother the last couple of weeks. He's completely
- 15:44Speaker 4: fallen off the list.
- 15:44Speaker 1: 72 yards in two weeks. And he's had quarters where
- 15:47Speaker 1: he's had 72 yards. In the last two weeks, Florida
- 15:51Speaker 1: has struggled to crank that running game engine. To open
- 15:56Speaker 1: up run lanes. And I don't know why. And Buster
- 15:58Speaker 1: Faulkner was the offensive genius. It's on Buster Faulkner. And
- 16:01Speaker 1: it's on John Summerall. He's the head coach. But Buster
- 16:03Speaker 1: Faulkner is his offensive coordinator. He's got to adjust to
- 16:06Speaker 1: this quickly. And I know everybody's saying the praises of
- 16:08Speaker 1: Buster Faulkner and how amazing this guy was. But you wonder.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I mean, you've got to wonder this, right? You've got
- 16:14Speaker 1: to wonder if defensive coordinators have found something here. Like
- 16:18Speaker 1: they've got, they'd had all this Buster Faulkner, Georgia Tech film,
- 16:22Speaker 1: but now I've got three or four games of what
- 16:23Speaker 1: he's doing at Florida with his personnel at Florida. And oh,
- 16:26Speaker 1: there's what I can capitalize on. I mean, you've got
- 16:28Speaker 1: to wonder that, Lance, because it's two straight weeks now
- 16:30Speaker 1: for them where they have been ineffective offensively.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Well, and the Missouri game was almost predictable. Going into Columbia,
- 16:35Speaker 4: you kind of had this feeling, or at least we
- 16:37Speaker 4: talked about, like Missouri was going to come out all cylinders.
- 16:40Speaker 4: And once it got into the second half, I kind
- 16:42Speaker 4: of lost even focusing on Florida's offense. I was just
- 16:45Speaker 4: watching Florida's defense get gashed. And then when you come
- 16:48Speaker 4: back to the Swamp this past weekend as a double-digit
- 16:51Speaker 4: favorite and you get just completely annihilated by South Carolina,
- 16:56Speaker 4: that becomes a bigger story for me. If they would
- 16:58Speaker 4: have come back and beaten South Carolina, you would think
- 17:00Speaker 4: Florida's got a fighting chance here. But I think it's
- 17:02Speaker 4: going to be a really, really difficult task. And I
- 17:05Speaker 4: do think Arch is the much better quarterback. Four more
- 17:08Speaker 4: quick ones.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Missouri Ole Miss is fascinating to me. Austin Simmons, Trinidad Chambliss.
- 17:13Speaker 1: 2.30 on the SEC Network. Eli Drinkowitz joking that they
- 17:17Speaker 1: see you on the SEC Network. You probably thought this
- 17:19Speaker 1: game deserved a better time slot and or better network.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Shot at your own network, by the way. Better quarterback, obviously,
- 17:27Speaker 1: is Trinidad Chambliss. But it's close. How close is it?
- 17:30Speaker 1: I mean, it.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Maybe it's closer now than it was when Austin Simmons
- 17:34Speaker 1: was actually Ole Miss' starting quarterback.
- 17:36Speaker 4: I mean, it was a point where Austin Simmons was
- 17:39Speaker 4: obviously the better quarterback because he was your starter to
- 17:42Speaker 4: begin last season for Ole Miss. I think one of
- 17:44Speaker 4: the benefits for Austin Simmons this year has been Jamal
- 17:47Speaker 4: Roberts and how good he's been running the football. How
- 17:50Speaker 4: healthy is Kiwan Lacy? Is he 100% yet? Trinidad Chambliss
- 17:54Speaker 4: is the better quarterback, but it's not a huge gap.
- 17:57Speaker 1: No, it's not a huge gap. I mean, I would...
- 17:59Speaker 1: I think you could swap quarterbacks in this game and
- 18:01Speaker 1: there wouldn't be a huge fall off. 630 ABC, Notre Dame, BYU,
- 18:06Speaker 1: CJ Carr, obviously, but how big of a gap is
- 18:08Speaker 1: it between him and Bear Bachmeier?
- 18:11Speaker 4: Well, in order for BYU to win this game, Bear
- 18:13Speaker 4: Bachmeier is going to have to have just a monumental
- 18:16Speaker 4: career game because his ability to take it, run it,
- 18:19Speaker 4: he'll run people over. Kind of a Josh Allen light, but...
- 18:24Speaker 4: But C.J. Carr, you know, C.J. Carr could ultimately be
- 18:27Speaker 4: the number one overall pick next year.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Bear Bachmeier, 71st in the nation in terms of
- 18:31Speaker 1: yards per game, but he is not turning the ball
- 18:33Speaker 1: over through the air. Only one interception, eight touchdowns, one pick,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and his ability to run the ball is really what
- 18:39Speaker 1: closes the gap between he and C.J. Carr, but it
- 18:41Speaker 1: is a big gap. Is it true we don't, do
- 18:43Speaker 1: we get TV ratings on the SEC network? At one point,
- 18:47Speaker 1: they were not rated. They have, I've been leaked numbers
- 18:51Speaker 1: because they do get internal ratings.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:53Speaker 1: But for some reason, they are not publicizing. That's by
- 18:55Speaker 1: ESPN's choice. But when the game's on there, do we
- 18:57Speaker 1: get those numbers? I don't think they publicize them. I
- 19:01Speaker 1: can get them. Which game do you want? Well, no,
- 19:03Speaker 1: nothing in particular while we're on the air. I'm just
- 19:05Speaker 1: wanting to see because it's a pretty good lineup on
- 19:07Speaker 1: the SEC Network this weekend. Missouri, Ole Miss, two ranked teams, 230.
- 19:11Speaker 1: And then the primetime is Kentucky at Oklahoma, 630 on
- 19:14Speaker 1: the SEC Network. I want to see how that does
- 19:17Speaker 1: against the other games. If you'll remind me next week,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I'll get them. Okay, so you've got Kentucky and Menchie,
- 19:21Speaker 1: who I think is the better quarterback. But how close,
- 19:23Speaker 1: after Mateer wins Red River, is that matchup?
- 19:26Speaker 4: I think it could be really close. I mean, the
- 19:28Speaker 4: best of the best, like the best moments of these guys.
- 19:31Speaker 4: I mean, Mateer, it's still kind of baffling. And I
- 19:33Speaker 4: know it was wazoo to Oklahoma. But he was so
- 19:37Speaker 4: freaking good at Wazoo. So, like, the best moments have
- 19:39Speaker 4: been Mateer.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I think it's close.
- 19:41Speaker 4: Minchie has played at another level. And I think Minchie's
- 19:44Speaker 4: got much better coaching.
- 19:45Speaker 1: You saw Kenny Minchie's only interception. Luke Metz has it.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I mean, that's it.
- 19:50Speaker 5: It.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He's not turning the football over, and that's something Mateer
- 19:52Speaker 1: has done. He's got the four interceptions, but Minchie has
- 19:55Speaker 1: protected the football very, very well for Kentucky. I mean,
- 19:59Speaker 1: they have to, Jim. They're winning these games by the
- 20:01Speaker 1: narrowest of margins. They've had to go to overtime on
- 20:04Speaker 1: the road to beat South Carolina and at home to
- 20:05Speaker 1: beat LSU. So they really have no margin for error
- 20:08Speaker 1: at quarterback. And with all due respect to San and
- 20:12Speaker 1: Hoover and to Simmons and Trinidad and Chambliss, you can
- 20:16Speaker 1: make a case that maybe the best quarterback showdown of
- 20:19Speaker 1: the night is 630 on Fox, Mestemaker in Oklahoma State,
- 20:23Speaker 1: and Wegman of Houston. Who's got the advantage there?
- 20:26Speaker 4: I would say Mestemaker just because, much like Barry Bachmeier,
- 20:30Speaker 4: his ability to run it. But it's close. I mean,
- 20:33Speaker 4: Wegman's got... He's got a little bit more experience just
- 20:36Speaker 4: because he's older. But Mestemaker, man, I mean, going back
- 20:40Speaker 4: last year in North Texas, and this is why it's
- 20:42Speaker 4: weird to me that you can make the transition from
- 20:44Speaker 4: North Texas to Oklahoma State, but you can't make it
- 20:46Speaker 4: from Wazoo to Oklahoma. I know everybody's going to say SEC.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I get that. But we've seen Mestemaker do it at
- 20:51Speaker 4: a high level against Oregon.
- 20:52Speaker 1: The numbers are really close, though, Jim. I mean, if
- 20:54Speaker 1: you look at completion percentage, Mestemaker is 67 and a half,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Wegman 66 and a half. Mestermakers 13 TDs, five picks,
- 21:02Speaker 1: Wegman 15 TDs, just one interception.
- 21:06Speaker 4: You could make an argument. This is the best quarterback matchup.
- 21:09Speaker 4: I know Austin Simmons, Trinidad Chambliss are really, really close,
- 21:13Speaker 4: but man, this is a great quarterback matchup.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Speaking of great, we'll hear from Will Stein, Kentucky's coach,
- 21:20Speaker 1: coming up on the other side. We'll talk about Alabama, Tennessee,
- 21:24Speaker 1: of course, big game. These guys will be up in Knoxville.
- 21:27Speaker 1: for that big game. All that still to come. Chris
- 21:30Speaker 1: Lowe starts our number two. We'll talk about a good
- 21:34Speaker 1: start for Little Bro. Little Bro. There are some programs
- 21:38Speaker 1: in certain states or conferences that throughout history end up
- 21:43Speaker 1: being the role of Little Brother. But a few Little
- 21:46Speaker 1: Brothers are off to pretty good starts, better in some
- 21:48Speaker 1: cases than Big Bro. We'll talk about that when we
- 21:51Speaker 1: continue on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 21:53Speaker 1: on Sporting States. Back with you on Sporting State, the
- 21:56Speaker 1: next round here. Listen, there are times when, you know,
- 22:00Speaker 1: the Secret Service does a wonderful job of protecting the
- 22:02Speaker 1: President of the United States. But there are times I
- 22:06Speaker 1: really believe they need to step in and tell the
- 22:09Speaker 1: President he can't go somewhere for his own benefit. Word
- 22:14Speaker 1: leaking out last night that the President is likely going
- 22:17Speaker 1: to attend the Steelers-Buccaneers game Sunday in Tampa. And I
- 22:21Speaker 1: would just say to the President of the United States,
- 22:24Speaker 1: uh don't don't put yourself through those two offenses don't
- 22:27Speaker 1: do that yourself don't don't go watch of all the
- 22:29Speaker 1: places you could be on a sunday don't make it
- 22:32Speaker 1: tampa and the steelers buccaneers.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Yeah two good running backs bucky irving and jaylen warren
- 22:37Speaker 4: what those guys have been able to do for those
- 22:39Speaker 4: offenses but uh i agree.
- 22:41Speaker 1: If i was the leader of the free world i
- 22:43Speaker 1: would make different choices then i mean i understand going
- 22:46Speaker 1: to texas and tennessee and in georgia and alabama but Steelers, Bucs.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm a Bucs fan, and I wouldn't go to that game.
- 22:54Speaker 1: He is no longer going, by the way. He's pulled
- 22:55Speaker 1: out of that one?
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Whatever political race that was must really need his help
- 23:00Speaker 1: for him to put himself through that one. Well, he's
- 23:01Speaker 1: out now, so that's a good call there.
- 23:04Speaker 4: That was quick.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Apparently the poll numbers have come back a little better today,
- 23:06Speaker 1: and they're like, okay, he does not have to go
- 23:08Speaker 1: watch those offenses. Clay Travis Law gets us into our
- 23:11Speaker 1: next conversation about little bro here.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Hey, accidents do not wait for a good time. That's
- 23:17Speaker 4: why our friend Clay Travis started Clay Travis Law. A wreck,
- 23:21Speaker 4: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. Suddenly you're
- 23:23Speaker 4: fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Clay built a firm around one idea. People deserve someone
- 23:29Speaker 4: willing to pay attention, ask those hard questions, and push
- 23:32Speaker 4: back when things don't add up. They lead negotiations with honesty, determination,
- 23:36Speaker 4: and some southern grit. Here's what they promise. Honesty. They're
- 23:39Speaker 4: not going to sugarcoat your case. You're going to hear
- 23:41Speaker 4: what it's actually worth, not what you want to hear.
- 23:43Speaker 4: Case evaluation is free. No charge, no pressure, no hassle.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Just tell them your story. Go to ClayTravisLaw.com. Call 877-222-4444.
- 23:52Speaker 4: That's ClayTravisLaw.com. No case too big or too small.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Listen, we'll jump into some other little bros and big
- 23:58Speaker 1: bros in a second. In the state of Kentucky, I
- 24:01Speaker 1: worked there for a while. Kentucky's the big bro. Louisville's
- 24:05Speaker 1: the little bro. But they really don't have that kind
- 24:07Speaker 1: of relationship. But Kentucky in the SEC oftentimes is little
- 24:13Speaker 1: bro to Tennessee. And because of Will Stein, little bro
- 24:17Speaker 1: Kentucky is looking down in the standings at Tennessee, or
- 24:23Speaker 1: at least they're close side by side. It's a different
- 24:25Speaker 1: feel about this Kentucky team. Here's Will Stein after this
- 24:28Speaker 1: great start for Kentucky.
- 24:30Speaker 7: You came here to win, and you've had a lot
- 24:34Speaker 7: of doubters. You knocked off a couple of ranked opponents.
- 24:38Speaker 7: But do you feel more of a sense of, I
- 24:41Speaker 7: told you so, or you haven't seen anything here?
- 24:46Speaker 1: I mean, neither, to be honest.
- 24:48Speaker 6: I just really try to show up every single day
- 24:50Speaker 6: and do my job, which is be the head football
- 24:52Speaker 6: coach and to create an environment of competition, of discipline,
- 24:58Speaker 6: of accountability, toughness. And I think when you have a
- 25:02Speaker 6: good process, which I believe we do here as an organization,
- 25:05Speaker 6: it sets you up to be successful. So I really
- 25:08Speaker 6: don't worry about what people think about me.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I never have. I never will.
- 25:12Speaker 6: That's just kind of how I am as a person.
- 25:14Speaker 6: And that's really how my team plays.
- 25:16Speaker 4: It's just funny.
- 25:16Speaker 6: Everybody that we beat seems to be a really bad
- 25:19Speaker 6: football team. So that's what kind of drives me a
- 25:22Speaker 6: little bit right now.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Alabama fans have been living that for years, brother. Tennessee
- 25:27Speaker 1: and Kentucky. Tennessee and Kentucky side by side here. I
- 25:31Speaker 1: don't think a lot of Tennessee fans... I expected to
- 25:33Speaker 1: see that in their rearview mirror this year.
- 25:35Speaker 4: No, and I think when you watch both, it seems
- 25:37Speaker 4: like Kentucky's the more complete team right now. Now, I
- 25:41Speaker 4: say that. Kentucky's got multiple guys in that backfield. Baxter's
- 25:45Speaker 4: been really good. I mean, they don't have a Deshaun Bishop,
- 25:48Speaker 4: but Minchie has been better, much better than either quarterback option.
- 25:51Speaker 1: The difference is quarterback play right now. Go ahead. Well,
- 25:53Speaker 1: I was just going to say real quick, not to
- 25:55Speaker 1: tell you how to do the segment here. When would
- 25:58Speaker 1: I ever do that? But could you make an argument
- 26:01Speaker 1: that Kentucky's a little bro to Kentucky basketball? That's what
- 26:03Speaker 1: makes this kind of crazy, right? Yeah, that's not even
- 26:05Speaker 1: close anymore. Yeah, I mean, then I was going to
- 26:08Speaker 1: bring that up. This is the most popular guy in
- 26:10Speaker 1: the state of Kentucky right here. Yeah. By far and away.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:13Speaker 1: Like, I mean, Louisville, you live there. Kentucky, 90-10 Kentucky,
- 26:16Speaker 1: the state of Kentucky at best, right? Louisville, they got
- 26:19Speaker 1: fans in Louisville, but that's about it, right? Louisville and
- 26:21Speaker 1: the Metro. Yeah, and you go outside the Metro of
- 26:24Speaker 1: Louisville and it's all blue. And Mark Pope is in the...
- 26:30Speaker 1: to be as kind as I can to be him
- 26:31Speaker 1: on a scorching hot seat coming into this year. Scorching hot.
- 26:34Speaker 1: I think preseason SEC media poll, Kentucky is seventh. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 1: if they finish there, Mark Pope's probably looking for a job.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I mean, that's the equivalent of, I mean, I guess
- 26:42Speaker 4: it was kind of close this year, Alabama being seventh
- 26:44Speaker 4: preseason in football.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Yeah, that's not a comfortable place to be.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But here's the question about Stein. Now, I don't know
- 26:52Speaker 1: if Stein can land. I don't think he can land
- 26:54Speaker 1: the plane this year. I think this is a great start,
- 26:56Speaker 1: and the second half of this season is going to
- 26:58Speaker 1: bring it back to reality a little bit. But if
- 27:00Speaker 1: he does, here's his challenge. If he lands this plane,
- 27:03Speaker 1: if they're 10-2 or somehow 11-1, here's his challenge. To
- 27:07Speaker 1: not be Sonny Dykes, to be Kurt Cignetti. And that's
- 27:09Speaker 1: the challenge these coaches that have immediate success will face.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Sonny Dykes, year one at TCU, nobody expected anything. They
- 27:16Speaker 1: played for the national championship. Kurt Cignetti, year one at Indiana,
- 27:20Speaker 1: nobody thought he could win a game and they were
- 27:22Speaker 1: in the college football playoff. And Cignetti has maintained it.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Dykes is now on the hot seat for TCU.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Yeah, but I do think the difference, Dykes is a
- 27:29Speaker 4: guy that had a lot of experience.
- 27:31Speaker 1: He did.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Was a coach at Cal. Was a coach at... Did
- 27:36Speaker 4: he ever coach Texas Tech?
- 27:37Speaker 1: He was at SMU, right?
- 27:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess he did. La Tech.
- 27:40Speaker 1: La Tech. I mean, he had been all over the place. Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: he was around. He made the move from SMU to TCU.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Was that his first year, really, when he made it
- 27:46Speaker 1: to the national championship? Yeah, year one when they played
- 27:47Speaker 1: for the national championship. Yeah, nobody expected anything out of TCU,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and they surprised everybody. Yeah. Anyway, I... Will Stein, when
- 27:54Speaker 1: he said at SEC Media Days when I was asked,
- 27:57Speaker 1: why do you think you win at Kentucky?
- 27:58Speaker 5: Me.
- 27:59Speaker 1: So far, he's been dead on with that right there.
- 28:02Speaker 1: He's been a baller. I do have a couple others,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and maybe you want to throw some in on the
- 28:07Speaker 1: little brother, big brother battle. It changed a little bit.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It changed a little bit with the Red River win.
- 28:15Speaker 1: But for a moment, Oklahoma State, now different leagues, different competition,
- 28:20Speaker 1: but for a moment, Oklahoma State, was all of a
- 28:22Speaker 1: sudden that little bro in the state was looking at
- 28:24Speaker 1: big bro and said, hey, we're back, baby.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Well, I think we're going to miss Bedlam. I mean,
- 28:29Speaker 4: that would be a really fun game this year because
- 28:31Speaker 4: you've got a dynamic offense.
- 28:33Speaker 1: And a terrible offense.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Yeah, with what Eric Morris has done going against what
- 28:37Speaker 4: is an elite defense. And then Oklahoma State's defense is
- 28:40Speaker 4: a little shaky going against that really bad Oklahoma offense.
- 28:43Speaker 4: So that would be a great game. I do think.
- 28:46Speaker 4: I don't know who's better.
- 28:47Speaker 1: If they played each other, who wins that game?
- 28:49Speaker 4: I mean, you put Mastemaker on that Oklahoma team, they
- 28:51Speaker 4: might win the national championship.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I see what you're saying. Again, a good quarterback. It's
- 28:57Speaker 1: all Oklahoma needs.
- 28:58Speaker 4: I think I would play Oklahoma State right now.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Now listen, Oregon State is off. They're G6. They're not
- 29:07Speaker 1: a power forward team. They're off the beaten path. But
- 29:10Speaker 1: in the state of Oregon right now, who's walking around
- 29:13Speaker 1: with their chest puffed out a little bit more than
- 29:15Speaker 1: they were six months ago, eight months ago. Oregon State,
- 29:18Speaker 1: and for two reasons. Littleboro, Oregon State's having a pretty
- 29:20Speaker 1: good year so far. Yeah, and Oregon is not. I mean,
- 29:23Speaker 1: it has timed out perfectly for Jamarcus Shepard. And they
- 29:25Speaker 1: both got two losses. Yeah, I was going to say,
- 29:27Speaker 1: they got the same. I mean, the expectation's much different. Yeah, nobody.
- 29:31Speaker 4: But I'll tell you, the better offense, no doubt, has
- 29:34Speaker 4: been Jamarcus Shepard and what they've been able to do
- 29:36Speaker 4: with that Beaver offense.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Yeah. Now, different competition, I always do. that because it's
- 29:40Speaker 1: hard to compare notes when you've got Oregon State playing
- 29:44Speaker 1: the teams they play in Oregon who's had to To
- 29:46Speaker 1: play the USC's of the world. Oregon State opened against
- 29:49Speaker 1: Houston and Texas Tech, and those weren't blowouts. No. I mean,
- 29:52Speaker 1: I'm not trying to lower the bar here for Oregon State.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Had a chance to win both those games. They were
- 29:57Speaker 1: competitive games. Now Oregon State has gotten to an easier
- 30:00Speaker 1: part of their schedule. But I remember fading them, and
- 30:02Speaker 1: I was like, man, you know what? These secondaries aren't
- 30:04Speaker 1: any good. Is what I took away from those games
- 30:07Speaker 1: instead of saying, you know what? Braden Atkinson.
- 30:10Speaker 4: And Jesse Legree are really, really good. And Jamarcus Shepard's
- 30:13Speaker 4: done a hell of a job scheming.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:15Speaker 1: But they are in the easier part of their schedule now.
- 30:17Speaker 1: There's no doubt for Oregon State.
- 30:19Speaker 4: By the way, Braden Atkinson has got a 71% completion percentage.
- 30:26Speaker 4: He is leading the nation with total yards and passing yards.
- 30:30Speaker 4: And he's leading the nation in touchdown passes with 21
- 30:33Speaker 4: and only two interceptions.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Yeah. They're killing it. They're killing it. And I don't
- 30:37Speaker 1: know what– I mean, you look at the rest of
- 30:38Speaker 1: their schedule– They got a shot at being like a
- 30:42Speaker 1: 9-3 type team. They've still got to go to Boise State.
- 30:44Speaker 1: That'll be a tough one for them. They've got to
- 30:45Speaker 1: go to Fresno. That'll be a tough one for them.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Just imagine if they'd have taken care of business in
- 30:51Speaker 1: the fourth quarter against Oregon State and Houston. what the
- 30:54Speaker 1: conversation would be about Oregon State as that possible group
- 30:58Speaker 1: of 16.
- 30:58Speaker 4: And that could be one of those games that you
- 31:01Speaker 4: would have circled.
- 31:02Speaker 1: At Boise State. Yeah, at Boise State. Now, don't forget
- 31:04Speaker 1: they play a home-and-home in Washington State. Weird scheduling out there.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Starting this weekend. It starts this weekend as the home
- 31:09Speaker 1: part for them, and they've got to go on the
- 31:11Speaker 1: road at the end of the year. The ultimate little bro, though,
- 31:14Speaker 1: right now, who can't yet flex the full muscle, but
- 31:18Speaker 1: they're right there, much like Tennessee and Kentucky in the
- 31:20Speaker 1: rearview mirror. Is UCLA with USC? Well, it's about to change,
- 31:26Speaker 1: I'm afraid, for them with Nico out. That feels like.
- 31:31Speaker 4: I don't disagree. It's season ending.
- 31:33Speaker 1: It is season ending. I mean, he's done for the year,
- 31:34Speaker 1: and this feels like the turning point when we'll look
- 31:37Speaker 1: back and say... Do you think Lincoln Riley ever thought
- 31:39Speaker 1: he'd see that above him?
- 31:40Speaker 5: No.
- 31:40Speaker 1: In the standings right there?
- 31:42Speaker 5: No.
- 31:42Speaker 4: And again, I was going to bring this up. We
- 31:44Speaker 4: went a little long with Brock yesterday, but I did
- 31:46Speaker 4: mention this on the show a couple of days ago.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Can you imagine 9-2, 9-2?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And I could see it.
- 31:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, now it is going to be difficult
- 31:55Speaker 4: because of the quarterback situation.
- 31:57Speaker 1: Is the younger Amelieva taking over? Is that who's going
- 32:00Speaker 1: to take over? It's going to be him or the
- 32:01Speaker 1: kid we saw. The kid from Cal Poly.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: So the younger Amelieva is out there and could be
- 32:07Speaker 1: taking over. Yeah, he replaced him.
- 32:08Speaker 4: He was the three.
- 32:10Speaker 1: He played in the Cal game, though. When Nico went
- 32:12Speaker 1: out of the Cal game, the younger one came in. Now,
- 32:14Speaker 1: he didn't play long because Nico was only out a
- 32:16Speaker 1: few plays. But, yeah, he came in in the Cal game.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know for UCLA, Jim. They play
- 32:21Speaker 1: Wisconsin this week. That's a tough game for them, though.
- 32:23Speaker 1: I don't know what the point spread is. Two and
- 32:25Speaker 1: a half.
- 32:25Speaker 4: I think they're going to lose.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Wisconsin probably wins that game. Big win
- 32:28Speaker 1: for Luke Fickle, obviously. Setting up a huge game next
- 32:30Speaker 1: week at Wisconsin. Who's that? I think it's USC-Wisconsin. USC-Wisconsin?
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yeah, USC's got a bye this week, so that is
- 32:38Speaker 4: a benefit.
- 32:40Speaker 1: But, I mean, they still play Michigan State at Minnesota-Illinois
- 32:43Speaker 1: at Michigan-USC at the end. It's going to be hard
- 32:45Speaker 1: without Nico for him. I mean, maybe they're a two-loss
- 32:48Speaker 1: team in the USC game.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I mean, that would be fun. Victory bell, two loss,
- 32:52Speaker 4: two loss, winner and loser.
- 32:55Speaker 1: Any other little bros out there that's having a better start?
- 32:59Speaker 1: You guys tell me, who is the little bro, Mississippi
- 33:01Speaker 1: State or Ole Miss? Generally, if you have state in
- 33:04Speaker 1: your name, just in general. If you're the University of,
- 33:07Speaker 1: you're the primary team. If you have State in your name,
- 33:10Speaker 1: you're the little brother.
- 33:11Speaker 4: I've just never been able to figure it out with
- 33:12Speaker 4: those two teams.
- 33:13Speaker 1: People will argue. There are some exceptions, obviously. Ohio University
- 33:17Speaker 1: is little brother to Ohio State. I get that. So
- 33:19Speaker 1: there are exceptions. That's why I say generally, if you've
- 33:21Speaker 1: got State in your team, University of is the primary team.
- 33:25Speaker 1: So I would say historically Ole Miss has been the
- 33:27Speaker 1: better of the two. I would say in the minds
- 33:32Speaker 1: of the people that go to school in Oxford, they
- 33:35Speaker 1: think they're the big brother. I do think that's the case, yes.
- 33:38Speaker 4: I would say that Mississippi State has had the better season,
- 33:42Speaker 4: although Ole Miss exercised the biggest team, and they wanted to,
- 33:45Speaker 4: and that was beating Lane Kiffin.
- 33:46Speaker 1: That's right.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Yeah, so I don't know. It's kind of even to
- 33:49Speaker 4: this point. Now, you get this news about Kamario Taylor.
- 33:52Speaker 4: It's probably going to come down pretty soon.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Well, that could have flipped it. If there was a
- 33:56Speaker 1: way they could go win at LSU and Ole Miss
- 33:58Speaker 1: loses to Missouri– then you would know who's got the
- 34:01Speaker 1: upper hand right now in that game. Little bro Texas
- 34:04Speaker 1: A & M, and I know no school likes to
- 34:06Speaker 1: be little bro. I'm using this as just a jest
- 34:08Speaker 1: in a segment. But you're absolutely correct. Little bro Texas
- 34:10Speaker 1: A & M was in a great spot last year
- 34:12Speaker 1: with Texas out of the playoffs and them in hosting
- 34:14Speaker 1: a game. And they've squandered it all.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Sark has got to love this on the back burner
- 34:18Speaker 4: because can you imagine if A & M was undefeated
- 34:21Speaker 4: right now and Texas struggling offensively?
- 34:24Speaker 1: I mean, but we– and I know we talked about
- 34:27Speaker 1: this yesterday with the cesspool Billy stuff, Billy cesspool. A &
- 34:30Speaker 1: M has lost five of their last eight games. Don't
- 34:34Speaker 1: let that wash over you. This is why Elko is
- 34:36Speaker 1: catching so much hell. Those wins, real quick, Lance, are
- 34:40Speaker 1: Missouri State, Arizona State, and Arkansas. They've beaten some bad
- 34:44Speaker 1: football teams. That's the only three wins they've had in
- 34:46Speaker 1: their last eight games.
- 34:48Speaker 4: I'm not going to go Mike Norvell 2023 to where
- 34:51Speaker 4: we are right now, but that is where that is trending.
- 34:55Speaker 4: I think Elko is a really good coach still. I
- 34:58Speaker 4: never really felt that about Norvell. But you remember the
- 35:02Speaker 4: implosion after 2023.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Here's the problem for Elko. After the Citadel this weekend,
- 35:07Speaker 1: he could finish the season 0-4. I mean, that's on
- 35:10Speaker 1: the board. I mean, look at this. At Alabama, at
- 35:13Speaker 1: South Carolina, host Tennessee, at Oklahoma, host Texas. I mean,
- 35:18Speaker 1: there's a possibility they go 0-5 down the stretch right there.
- 35:21Speaker 1: And boy, I don't know what Billy Sispool is going
- 35:24Speaker 1: to be sounding like at that point. Poor Notre Dame
- 35:26Speaker 1: didn't even know they had a little brother until Indiana
- 35:29Speaker 1: showed up a couple of years ago. That's right. And
- 35:31Speaker 1: now it's a big battle. I mean, is that the
- 35:33Speaker 1: best one-two state punch? Bro, no way. I've got a brother?
- 35:36Speaker 1: You're not related to us.
- 35:37Speaker 4: It is the best one-two state punch, right?
- 35:39Speaker 1: It's impossible to say that, but it is true. Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:42Speaker 1: It's not even close right now.
- 35:44Speaker 4: I mean, USC, UCLA is pretty good.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they're in the mix.
- 35:47Speaker 4: BYU, Utah. They play a holy war, but Ole Miss,
- 35:51Speaker 4: Mississippi State, pretty good.
- 35:52Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty good there. But you're right. It's Indiana and
- 35:55Speaker 1: Notre Dame. We just don't think of Notre Dame as
- 35:57Speaker 1: an Indiana school.
- 35:58Speaker 4: They're a national school.
- 35:59Speaker 1: That's the problem.
- 35:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Like if you do Indiana, you got to compare them
- 36:01Speaker 1: to Purdue, honestly.
- 36:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:03Speaker 1: And Purdue's little brother at that point, I guess.
- 36:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Anyway, little bro competition. Since we brought up Billy Sesspool,
- 36:10Speaker 1: I was blown away by these numbers yesterday, especially with
- 36:12Speaker 1: what we do for a living here. Just blown away
- 36:15Speaker 1: by these numbers. And I texted you. I don't understand this. Well,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I think it is surprising to a lot.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:23Speaker 1: You're going to need to explain it to them. A
- 36:24Speaker 1: lot of people out there are surprised by this. But yesterday,
- 36:29Speaker 1: there's a report. Who did the report? I think it
- 36:33Speaker 1: was Sportico, wasn't it? Was it Sportico? Yeah, Sportico. They
- 36:38Speaker 1: got the tax returns from the 12th Man Foundation, the
- 36:43Speaker 1: long-time fundraising arm of Texas A & M. And in
- 36:49Speaker 1: the fiscal year of 2025... They paid the Maroon and
- 36:53Speaker 1: White LP $ 6. 28 million for external marketing services. Now, I
- 37:03Speaker 1: didn't know who Maroon White LP until I was listening
- 37:06Speaker 1: to our buddy Pat Smith on jocks driving around yesterday,
- 37:09Speaker 1: and he brought this story up. He was blown away
- 37:11Speaker 1: at this number, and I was like, it's Billy Lucci's company.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Tex Ags is part of Maroon White LP, and Texas
- 37:19Speaker 1: A & M, the 12th Man Foundation, which gave 72
- 37:23Speaker 1: million dollars to texas a & m last year gave
- 37:26Speaker 1: 6.28 million dollars to billy lucci's company in 2025 fiscal
- 37:31Speaker 1: year in 2024 they gave him 1.2 million dollars for
- 37:35Speaker 1: external marketing services i can't.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Explain it you know i would have thought before nil
- 37:40Speaker 4: this is a way to launder money to the to
- 37:43Speaker 4: the recruits right because when Jimbo paid every single one
- 37:48Speaker 4: of them.
- 37:50Speaker 1: That's right.
- 37:50Speaker 4: That would have made sense then, but this doesn't make
- 37:54Speaker 4: a lot of sense, does it?
- 37:56Speaker 1: I mean, to me, when I saw that number, it
- 37:59Speaker 1: made 100% clear why Mike Elko quickly on Monday next
- 38:06Speaker 1: opportunity was like, hey, by the way, Billy and I
- 38:09Speaker 1: are really tight. Yeah, we're tight. He does a great job.
- 38:11Speaker 4: We're tight.
- 38:12Speaker 1: He's apparently helping us so much. that we're paying him
- 38:15Speaker 1: $ 6. 28 million. That is more than how many college football
- 38:19Speaker 1: coaches make? Probably half or more than half. That's more
- 38:23Speaker 1: than Nick Saban made his first year when he came
- 38:26Speaker 1: to Tuscaloosa to start the dynasty. Billy Lucci is getting
- 38:30Speaker 1: paid $ 6. 28 million today. From Texas A & M.
- 38:33Speaker 4: Well, I'm just wondering, what is that money really for?
- 38:36Speaker 4: I'm assuming. Because it can't be for positive spin.
- 38:40Speaker 1: No, it's external marketing services. So I'm assuming, and our
- 38:43Speaker 1: company does some of this, sometimes you see or hear
- 38:47Speaker 1: advertising that our company has done, but it doesn't come
- 38:50Speaker 1: from the three of us, if that makes sense, right?
- 38:51Speaker 1: Like we take an advertiser and you might get an
- 38:54Speaker 1: ad online. We've done that. You don't know it came
- 38:57Speaker 1: from us. You just thought it popped up because, you know,
- 39:00Speaker 1: you'd said it in your phone or whatever. You see
- 39:01Speaker 1: what I'm saying? I would imagine that's what that is, Lance.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Though that is a hefty budget. That's a hefty budget, man.
- 39:07Speaker 1: If they're saying, here's $ 6 million for you to do,
- 39:10Speaker 1: you know, online marketing campaigns for us.
- 39:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Billy Lucci, by the way, after Elko made the post-game comments,
- 39:17Speaker 1: going to show restraint here for now and get back
- 39:20Speaker 1: to answering questions. But the head coach losing 27 to 6.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Then immediately calling out an incredibly large portion of the
- 39:26Speaker 1: loyal but always understandably frustrated fan base. was a wildly unnecessary.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Misstep always understandably frustrated fan base.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Yes understandably but i mean chip said it on the
- 39:39Speaker 1: show yesterday chip brown's like the thing that shocked me
- 39:41Speaker 1: the most about that is there's not a more loyal
- 39:43Speaker 1: fan base than texas a & m and there's your
- 39:47Speaker 1: coach after a loss calling them out yeah That's the
- 39:50Speaker 1: most loyal fan base you could find. They have gone
- 39:51Speaker 1: to game on top of game on top of game
- 39:54Speaker 1: with nothing to show for it. Now, I'm looking. I
- 39:57Speaker 1: looked on Twitter real quick just to see if Billy
- 40:01Speaker 1: had commented about this story yet, and he has not,
- 40:04Speaker 1: at least on Twitter. I don't know if he has
- 40:06Speaker 1: anywhere else. I would say that was wise on Billy's
- 40:08Speaker 1: part now that I know about this financial arrangement. I
- 40:12Speaker 1: want to see if he has to answer this because
- 40:15Speaker 1: this wasn't made public. This was somebody reporting. the Sports
- 40:19Speaker 1: Business Journal, Sportico, actually going out and doing the research,
- 40:23Speaker 1: pulling up tax reports. This isn't something that was readily
- 40:25Speaker 1: made available. At some point, somebody's going to be asked
- 40:28Speaker 1: the question, hey, what are we paying Maroon and White for?
- 40:31Speaker 1: $ 6. 28 million. Here's what's weird.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Can you be objective and can you be critical of
- 40:37Speaker 4: the head coach? at Texas A & M, if you're
- 40:40Speaker 4: Billy Lucci, if you're actually getting paid by them. Because
- 40:43Speaker 4: you guys remember the radio station WNSP down in Mobile,
- 40:47Speaker 4: and it was Alabama-owned, and they never said a negative
- 40:50Speaker 4: word about Alabama through the Shula days, the DuBose days.
- 40:53Speaker 1: You can when the boosters that write the checks tell
- 40:56Speaker 1: you to do it. You become a mouthpiece for the
- 40:59Speaker 1: money people. So we used to always say, God rest
- 41:03Speaker 1: his soul, he was a good one. But when Cecil
- 41:05Speaker 1: Hurt turned on an Alabama football coach, you knew it
- 41:07Speaker 1: was over. Because you knew Cecil had the hard line
- 41:12Speaker 1: to the power boosters at Alabama. And when Cecil turned
- 41:15Speaker 1: on a guy, that meant the power boosters had turned
- 41:17Speaker 1: on a guy.
- 41:17Speaker 5: That's right.
- 41:17Speaker 1: And they were telling Cecil, this guy ain't going to
- 41:19Speaker 1: make it. And Cecil's like, all right. They'd hold Cecil back.
- 41:23Speaker 1: And finally, they'd let the hound out. And Cecil was fair,
- 41:26Speaker 1: but Cecil was also at the Tuscaloosa News. So Cecil
- 41:29Speaker 1: had to be a little bit careful. He couldn't do
- 41:31Speaker 1: some of the things AL.com was doing. Or Feinbaum. Or
- 41:34Speaker 1: Feinbaum or people like that. And when you saw Cecil
- 41:36Speaker 1: turn on an Alabama football coach, it was over for
- 41:38Speaker 1: that guy. Absolutely over. The boosters had.
- 41:41Speaker 4: Turned on him at that point.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 1: The guys that were going to sign the check to
- 41:44Speaker 1: get him out of there, they had turned on him
- 41:46Speaker 1: when Cecil finally wrote the column.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Don't think Tuscaloosa News was getting that kind of.
- 41:50Speaker 1: No, they weren't. But my point is, your question with
- 41:53Speaker 1: Billy Lucci, when does he become critical of Mike Yelko?
- 41:56Speaker 1: When the guys that are going to write the check
- 41:57Speaker 1: become critical of Mike Yelko. And I would say Billy
- 41:59Speaker 1: is very fair, and it's an entertaining platform, Tex-Ax. Probably
- 42:02Speaker 1: the best in the business. Him and Kentucky Sports Radio,
- 42:05Speaker 1: as far as the team sites, they do it as
- 42:07Speaker 1: good as anybody else, and they... They're hard sometimes and fair,
- 42:11Speaker 1: and I think they really do a good job. But
- 42:15Speaker 1: I would also say that if anyone wants to pay
- 42:18Speaker 1: us somewhere between $ 1. 2 million and $ 6. 28 million to work
- 42:22Speaker 1: on Alabama or Auburn's external marketing services, You want to
- 42:26Speaker 1: give your show number straight out?
- 42:28Speaker 4: We got it.
- 42:29Speaker 1: We'll fight the battle of how fair we are. Let
- 42:31Speaker 1: us worry about that. We'll work on our journalistic integrity.
- 42:34Speaker 1: And I'll pull for or against whoever you want me to.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I would flat out tell you that we are entertainers,
- 42:40Speaker 1: not journalists, and we are for hire. When we come
- 42:44Speaker 1: back on Sporting State, we'll get into a bounce-back game.
- 42:49Speaker 1: closer to the road that's going to go low road, 7-5,
- 42:52Speaker 1: or high road, 11-1. We'll talk about bounce-back games for
- 42:56Speaker 1: Texas and Alabama as we move throughout the show. Chris
- 43:00Speaker 1: Lowe still to come. And our NFL power rating right
- 43:03Speaker 1: here on Sport and State. On the morning shows this morning,
- 43:08Speaker 1: Paul Feinbaum out of the ESPN SEC Network, Birmingham famed.
- 43:15Speaker 1: said Kalen DeBoer has done, quote, a masterful job winning
- 43:18Speaker 1: over Alabama fans. Seems like just a few weeks ago
- 43:24Speaker 1: that there were questions from Paul and others on whether
- 43:28Speaker 1: or not Kalen DeBoer was going to– I.
- 43:30Speaker 4: Still don't feel that.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Wasn't people very critical of the way he answered that
- 43:33Speaker 1: question at SEC Media Days?
- 43:35Speaker 4: Yeah, and people were– not only that, but you're talking
- 43:40Speaker 4: about winning the fan base over there. Was controversy this
- 43:42Speaker 4: past week because of the comments– On the sideline.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Well, I think most of that came from other than
- 43:47Speaker 1: Alabama fans. Well, Alabama fans liked the sideline thing, I think.
- 43:51Speaker 1: I think they liked him jumping Dijon Lees, you know what,
- 43:55Speaker 1: and saying what they were saying at home watching TV.
- 43:59Speaker 1: A lot of Sherman Soft people who aren't Alabama fans
- 44:02Speaker 1: saw that and like, oh, how do you question number fives?
- 44:06Speaker 1: He didn't cost you the game. This cost you the game.
- 44:08Speaker 1: This cost you the game.
- 44:09Speaker 5: Well.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I think a lot of Alabama fans were okay with
- 44:12Speaker 1: that moment.
- 44:13Speaker 4: Look, the fact of the matter, and we've talked about
- 44:15Speaker 4: this a million times, Kaitlin DeBoer is always going to
- 44:18Speaker 4: be compared to Nick Saban. He's always going to be
- 44:21Speaker 4: attached to him.
- 44:22Speaker 1: How would Saban have reacted to that situation?
- 44:25Speaker 4: The same way.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'd say probably worse, honestly. I think DeBoer was measured
- 44:29Speaker 1: compared to what Saban would have done. The words probably
- 44:31Speaker 1: wouldn't have been exactly the same, probably harsher.
- 44:36Speaker 4: And I started the documentary last night.
- 44:37Speaker 1: You did?
- 44:38Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:38Speaker 1: I watched three. One is the worst episode.
- 44:40Speaker 4: I thought it was good, though.
- 44:42Speaker 1: It's good, but it is good, but it's the worst one.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I've watched three, and I kind of wanted to
- 44:47Speaker 4: stay up all night and watch all of them.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. I've got three more to go. I'm
- 44:50Speaker 1: exactly where you are.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Yeah, so good.
- 44:52Speaker 1: Not rushing through it. I don't know how many times
- 44:54Speaker 1: I'll watch it throughout my life, but I'll watch it
- 44:56Speaker 1: multiple times.
- 44:56Speaker 4: But I do like the fact that, yeah, Saban probably
- 44:58Speaker 4: would have done that to Dijon, but then he probably
- 45:00Speaker 4: would have circled back and said, you know.
- 45:02Speaker 1: And I'm sure Kalen Abor has, too. Yeah, I'm sure.
- 45:05Speaker 1: We talked about that on the next round yesterday. with
- 45:08Speaker 1: what HaHa Clinton Dix, a former Nick Saban Alabama great,
- 45:12Speaker 1: who's now in the player personnel department on the Kalen
- 45:15Speaker 1: DeBoer staff, how important of a role he has played
- 45:17Speaker 1: there as well. Tell us about Perfect 10 Mortgage, and
- 45:20Speaker 1: we'll do a little NFL before we get to Chris Lowe.

- 46:25Speaker 4: All right.
- 46:26Speaker 1: NFL week number six coming up in the NFL.
- 46:30Speaker 5: Yep.
- 46:31Speaker 1: Always one behind where we are in the college football world.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Forrester is about to pop up our weekly NFL power
- 46:37Speaker 1: ratings from each of us. We give you the top
- 46:39Speaker 1: five and the bottom five. Let's see it, Forrester. I've
- 46:43Speaker 1: got the 49ers. You've got the 49ers. All God's children
- 46:47Speaker 1: have the 49ers at the top. Just real quickly, did
- 46:51Speaker 1: anyone expect the 49ers to be there and unanimously?
- 46:54Speaker 7: No.
- 46:55Speaker 1: This deep into the season? No, I thought it would
- 46:56Speaker 1: be the Rams at this point, to be honest with you.
- 46:58Speaker 1: I'm not just trying to poke Lance.
- 47:00Speaker 4: I've had the 49ers number one since the beginning.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but in the offseason, if I had told you
- 47:06Speaker 1: there's one team that's our consensus number one after five weeks.
- 47:10Speaker 1: If we'd done a power ranking or rating before the
- 47:13Speaker 1: start of the season, you would not have had the
- 47:14Speaker 1: 49ers number one. If we'd have done it before game one.
- 47:18Speaker 4: No, but after I saw game one.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, after game one.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I mean, the question has always been, can they stay healthy?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Guess what?
- 47:24Speaker 4: They've got 14 guys on IR right now. That is
- 47:27Speaker 4: by far the most in the National Football League. So,
- 47:31Speaker 4: you know, they continue to drop like flies. With that said,
- 47:34Speaker 4: they are by far the best team.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I go 49ers, Bills, Chiefs, Jaguars, Seahawks in the top.
- 47:42Speaker 1: In my bottom is the Chargers, Saints, Cardinals, Dolphins, and Titans. Lance,
- 47:47Speaker 1: give me your top five and bottom five.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Yeah, 49ers, Bills, Seahawks, even with the second loss they've absorbed,
- 47:53Speaker 4: I still think they're the third best team. The Jaguars,
- 47:56Speaker 4: I've had them at four for a few weeks now,
- 47:59Speaker 4: and I'm still not sold on the Chiefs, but they're undefeated.
- 48:02Speaker 4: They're one of three undefeateds, along with San Francisco and Minnesota,
- 48:06Speaker 4: but I couldn't pull the trigger on Minnesota.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I dropped the Jags out and moved the Ravens in
- 48:12Speaker 1: at number five, and it was close, but I mean,
- 48:13Speaker 1: I kind of look at that Jags game like they
- 48:17Speaker 1: Really should have lost that game.
- 48:18Speaker 4: I know. It's a London game.
- 48:19Speaker 5: I know.
- 48:20Speaker 1: It's weird. You're right. You're right. And the Ravens with
- 48:22Speaker 1: a backup quarterback, and I know it was just the Falcons. Sorry, Scott.
- 48:25Speaker 1: I know it was just the Falcons on Sunday night,
- 48:27Speaker 1: but the backup quarterback had to go in there and win.
- 48:28Speaker 1: That Ravens team, I thought, showed a lot. So I
- 48:31Speaker 1: moved them into number five. And the bottom for you guys,
- 48:34Speaker 1: I go Chargers, Saints, Cardinals, Dolphins, Titans, L.T.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Chargers.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Buccaneers.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Buccaneers. Commanders, Dolphins, Titans.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Let me thank all of you for moving the Titans
- 48:46Speaker 1: to dead last. Move the Dolphins up. We are improving.
- 48:49Speaker 1: I had to put the Commanders in there just because
- 48:51Speaker 1: of the way they botched the end of that game.
- 48:53Speaker 1: You're a bottom five team if you can't manage the
- 48:54Speaker 1: end of the game better than that.
- 48:56Speaker 4: Oh, did you guys see Micah Parsons?
- 48:58Speaker 1: I did.
- 48:58Speaker 4: Yeah, podcast went after Jaden Daniels. Said you cannot pay
- 49:02Speaker 4: this guy $ 60 million.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I mean, everybody blames Dan Quinn, and they should. He's
- 49:06Speaker 1: the head coach, but... Jim, if you're an NFL quarterback,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you can't throw it out of bounds. Yeah, throw it
- 49:12Speaker 1: out of bounds or clock it. Anything but what he did.
- 49:15Speaker 4: I mean, it is on both of them, no doubt.
- 49:16Speaker 1: It's on both of them.
- 49:17Speaker 4: But I'm just shocked that Micah Parsons called him out.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I am too. But if you're going to be
- 49:20Speaker 1: that highly paid of a quarterback, and I guess he's
- 49:22Speaker 1: still on his rookie deal technically. He is. He's your
- 49:24Speaker 1: franchise quarterback.
- 49:25Speaker 4: That's what he's saying. How can you extend this guy
- 49:28Speaker 4: when it comes up and pay him what that number
- 49:31Speaker 4: is probably going to be, about $ 60 million per year
- 49:33Speaker 4: with decisions like that?
- 49:34Speaker 1: Well, I've only gone back to watch it. I didn't
- 49:35Speaker 1: see it live when it happened. Once you take the snap,
- 49:39Speaker 1: what were they trying to do other than run more
- 49:42Speaker 1: time off? Because it wasn't a snap clock play. They
- 49:46Speaker 1: didn't call that. They called a play.
- 49:47Speaker 4: They called a play, and he actually was looking to
- 49:50Speaker 4: throw it, it looked like, for the first millisecond.
- 49:53Speaker 1: So at that point, you can't clock it. No, once
- 49:55Speaker 1: you're out from under center, well, he could— Throw it
- 49:58Speaker 1: at the feet of a receiver.
- 49:59Speaker 4: Yeah, but he had plenty of time to throw it
- 50:01Speaker 4: out of bounds.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Yeah. He would need to throw it towards a receiver
- 50:04Speaker 1: out of bounds. Or get outside the pocket and throw
- 50:06Speaker 1: it past the line of scrimmage. One of those two things.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Or even grounding, as bad as the penalty would be,
- 50:11Speaker 4: I guess there might be a runoff.
- 50:13Speaker 1: Yeah, it would stop the running clock, the grounding, so
- 50:15Speaker 1: you'd have had the 10-second runoff.
- 50:16Speaker 4: Again, they didn't need to be running clocked.
- 50:18Speaker 1: And for those that wonder why they were running clocked,
- 50:20Speaker 1: I guess the thought behind that is in case you
- 50:22Speaker 1: miss the field goal, you don't leave time on the
- 50:24Speaker 1: clock for the Giants to also drive and try a
- 50:27Speaker 1: field goal.
- 50:27Speaker 5: So.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Running the clock down, but they just ran so much
- 50:30Speaker 1: time off of it and didn't run that play is
- 50:32Speaker 1: why it looked so bad. You had all kinds of time.
- 50:35Speaker 1: You don't always overthink the worst possible scenario, in my opinion.
- 50:40Speaker 1: It's okay to think about that. You don't overthink the
- 50:43Speaker 1: worst possible scenario, which is, I need to run down
- 50:46Speaker 1: all the time in case we miss the kill.
- 50:49Speaker 4: That shouldn't really be the mindset. The situational awareness, the
- 50:53Speaker 4: clock management from Dan Quinn, the situational awareness from Jaden Daniels,
- 50:57Speaker 4: both awful.
- 50:58Speaker 1: But it's more on Quinn. You can do what they
- 51:00Speaker 1: did if you do it with 20 seconds to go
- 51:04Speaker 1: because then you can fire drill. It's not ideal, but
- 51:06Speaker 1: if that's the way you want to do it, you
- 51:08Speaker 1: can fire drill the kick team out there and kick
- 51:10Speaker 1: the field goal. A lot of people, Jim, are critical
- 51:13Speaker 1: saying that Dan Quinn, that this is the helmet communication thing,
- 51:16Speaker 1: and the communication has gotten so complex that coaches have
- 51:21Speaker 1: just forgotten to say, hey, just throw the ball out
- 51:23Speaker 1: of bounds. Yeah. Or just, hey, clock it here. Clock it, yeah.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Clock it here. Everybody's got a code word for everything.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Chris Lowe is up next with us. We talked to
- 51:30Speaker 1: Chris about third Saturday in October. There's a special time,
- 51:34Speaker 1: Alabama at Tennessee, two nationally ranked teams and everything else
- 51:38Speaker 1: going on in college football. That when we come back
- 51:41Speaker 1: on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on
- 51:43Speaker 1: Sporting State.
