- 0:38Speaker 1: let's let's get let's get into the top pick race.
- 0:42Speaker 4: You just say that, No, I'm arran, I just I'm

- 0:45Speaker 1: I might during the game, You're like, okay, well, what's
- 0:47Speaker 1: the point now?
- 0:48Speaker 5: This season hasn't even really started that much yet.
- 0:50Speaker 6: You know, you still in the picture by the ball.
- 0:53Speaker 3: You can't cry go back to one and bury the ball.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But I thought they did that already this season, but
- 0:58Speaker 1: maybe they did.
- 0:59Speaker 3: They really get a forest of balls.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's like a graveyard.
- 1:04Speaker 4: We're running on the balls like the googling shovels. But
- 1:08Speaker 4: it was an unbelievable play. Yeah, and we really saw
- 1:11Speaker 4: very little of him the.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Rest of the game.
- 1:12Speaker 3: When I got scared, we did that. He made a
- 1:14Speaker 3: big play.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Can't have that. Get out of there.
- 1:19Speaker 4: He's running too far. Evan has taken the mantle for
- 1:22Speaker 4: me for most snark, and this is great.
- 1:24Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:33Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It's Wednesday here at
- 1:36Speaker 1: Gillette Stadium. We've turned the page. That's what we call Wednesday,
- 1:40Speaker 1: to turn the page day as we forget about last
- 1:43Speaker 1: game as much as we can and we start to
- 1:46Speaker 1: focus on our upcoming opponent, which of course is the
- 1:49Speaker 1: New Orlands Saints come and marching in to Jellette one
- 1:54Speaker 1: o'clock on Sunday. And big news, I'd say, I'd say,
- 1:58Speaker 1: you know, relatively big news for this time of the year.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Bringing in an old old friend.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Welcome jac Jackson. He's got some he's got some money
- 2:06Speaker 5: now with him. Yeah, I don't know. He got bench
- 2:09Speaker 5: last week. I mean he's so I had to dive in.
- 2:12Speaker 6: I mean torres Peateeller Tendon last year and then this year,
- 2:15Speaker 6: came back but wasn't playing great. So I know Evan
- 2:17Speaker 6: was jumping into some of this film, but I don't know.
- 2:20Speaker 6: I mean, it feels like the move they just had
- 2:21Speaker 6: to make. I mean he can't. Yeah, they especially if
- 2:23Speaker 6: Jonathan Jones can't get back on track this week.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I mean they literally like they have Sean Wade who's
- 2:27Speaker 1: healthy right as a cornerback, and then you know Miles Bryant,
- 2:31Speaker 1: who you know, he's been playing both safety and cornerback right,
- 2:36Speaker 1: and yeah, out of necessity, now he's playing cornerback. They need,
- 2:39Speaker 1: they need cornerbacks. Yeah, I mean, maybe Jonathan Jones comes
- 2:42Speaker 1: back this week. Every week we say he's close.
- 2:46Speaker 4: That's true, and I've been falling into that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And then he doesn't come back. You know.
- 2:50Speaker 5: If he isn't coming back, they definitely.
- 2:52Speaker 1: But the fact a body, right, But the fact that
- 2:54Speaker 1: they haven't put him on I R. Paul said yet.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I mean that shows you that they think he could
- 2:59Speaker 1: come back, you know, but I don't know if he
- 3:03Speaker 1: try something and he has a setback or what. But
- 3:05Speaker 1: he hasn't been back.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Paul and I are going to be
- 3:11Speaker 3: on opposite sides of the street. On this one based
- 3:13Speaker 3: off of our pre show discussions.
- 3:15Speaker 4: But I'm just sort of I'm done with the j
- 3:18Speaker 4: Z Jackson thing. Not to go all tomorrow on you,
- 3:21Speaker 4: but I yeah, whatever, I'm kind of indifferent on it.
- 3:27Speaker 4: I guess if Jonathan Jones can't play, then I want.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I like it even better if Jonathan Jones can play.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Sure, Like I don't like the player, so I don't
- 3:36Speaker 4: want him on my team.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I mean, just me, but he's so much better what
- 3:39Speaker 3: they have Paul, Like maybe I think ultimately the thing
- 3:43Speaker 3: that I you know, we turned the page on Wednesday,
- 3:46Speaker 3: and I said, yesterday, you know that it was a
- 3:48Speaker 3: pretty dark time and in the Lazagart apartment and and
- 3:53Speaker 3: it was. It was, but I will say this on
- 3:56Speaker 3: Wednesday speaking, she's she's just, you know, oh God, like,
- 4:03Speaker 3: what are we going to do for the next, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 3: thirteen weeks? And that's how I was feeling, was like,
- 4:07Speaker 3: oh God, we we have to play, you know, thirteen
- 4:10Speaker 3: more of these and I'm gonna have to watch this
- 4:12Speaker 3: thirteen more times. And it does. It gives me a
- 4:15Speaker 3: little sliver of hope that to bring a guy in
- 4:17Speaker 3: like j C. Jackson, who you know, you can get
- 4:20Speaker 3: the best out of you know how to use him,
- 4:22Speaker 3: you know he can be a productive player for you.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And now we don't need to watch Miles Brian Sean
- 4:27Speaker 3: Wade in the mere speed for the rest of the
- 4:28Speaker 3: season like that. I don't as a Patriots fan like
- 4:32Speaker 3: as much as I know a lot of people want
- 4:34Speaker 3: it to tank, and I totally understand the rationale behind
- 4:38Speaker 3: not wanting to win very many games the rest of
- 4:40Speaker 3: the way, the bottom line is is that it's four
- 4:42Speaker 3: weeks into the season and you can't wave the white five.
- 4:45Speaker 1: You can't wipe the white flag. And it's not fair
- 4:47Speaker 1: to everybody else in the team to not to you know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: have options and not go after them at a certain position.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I mean, here's an not only is he coming over
- 4:56Speaker 1: and you know him, but I think the Chargers are
- 4:58Speaker 1: paying some of his salary most.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Of his Patriots want to paying one point five minutes.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Yeah, So I mean why not?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Why is that? Was that an announcer?
- 5:06Speaker 4: Is that just part of the trade they re as
- 5:08Speaker 4: part of the trade, they restructured his contracts, so the
- 5:11Speaker 4: Chargers gave him like nine whatever in a signing bonus,
- 5:15Speaker 4: and the Patriots are only responsible for one point five
- 5:19Speaker 4: million and then there's no other guaranteed money, so he'll
- 5:22Speaker 4: probably get cut after the season. But technically, if.
- 5:24Speaker 5: He makes a contract for the next three years, the remaining.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he's under contract the next three years. But
- 5:29Speaker 4: I don't think there's any possible way the Patriots are
- 5:31Speaker 4: going to pay.
- 5:31Speaker 6: Him struct so they're just they're just covering this this
- 5:34Speaker 6: this year, I.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Got you, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean I I
- 5:38Speaker 3: watched his film from from this year. Was only two games,
- 5:40Speaker 3: so it didn't take me very long. But the bottom
- 5:43Speaker 3: line was is you know, with his film, I saw J. C.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Jackson And when I say that, I mean this is
- 5:49Speaker 3: not this is a flawed player. Like I think that
- 5:52Speaker 3: the Chargers signed him to this contract and thought that
- 5:55Speaker 3: they were getting this like shut down Durrell Revis man
- 5:58Speaker 3: to man corner, and it's just he's a boomer bust player.
- 6:01Speaker 3: He always has been. And he's not somebody that's going
- 6:04Speaker 3: to go out and you say, Okay, you got Tyreek
- 6:07Speaker 3: Hill today and we're not gonna worry about it and
- 6:09Speaker 3: we're just gonna, you know, play the rest of the
- 6:11Speaker 3: defense over here like that. That's just not what he's about.
- 6:14Speaker 3: He's a ballhawk. He's inconsistent at times in coverage, but
- 6:20Speaker 3: he makes plays and coverage as well. And I think
- 6:22Speaker 3: the Patriots are going to be better equipped to work
- 6:26Speaker 3: around his deficiencies that I don't think the Chargers really
- 6:30Speaker 3: understood the player all that well in terms of what
- 6:32Speaker 3: his strengths and weakness.
- 6:34Speaker 1: And you know, you look at Derek Carr next week,
- 6:37Speaker 1: maybe Jimmy Garoppolo if he's playing two guys who will
- 6:41Speaker 1: throw you the ball, so you know, put him out there,
- 6:44Speaker 1: see if he can hunt one down.
- 6:46Speaker 5: You know, I mean, they need the interceptions. I don't know.
- 6:48Speaker 6: I'm probably in between Evan and I don't share like
- 6:50Speaker 6: the excitement of watching J. C.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Jackson on the season. I think they just had to
- 6:53Speaker 5: do it.
- 6:54Speaker 6: But at this point they got to get healthy in
- 6:57Speaker 6: that secondary and they got to start getting some takeaways too,
- 6:59Speaker 6: and so maybe he can help in that regard.
- 7:01Speaker 3: To I don't know if it's necessarily excitement about watching
- 7:03Speaker 3: him individually. I think it's more about, like, Okay, now
- 7:07Speaker 3: you have another NFL caliber corner that you're putting out there.
- 7:11Speaker 3: I frankly, I don't think Sean Wade is an NFL
- 7:13Speaker 3: caliber corner and the fact that you had to play
- 7:16Speaker 3: him forty to fifty snaps the last couple of weeks.
- 7:19Speaker 3: It was a real death. I mean the Cowboys just
- 7:21Speaker 3: went right after him, like right out of the gate,
- 7:24Speaker 3: you know, no messing around, eleven personnel whatever.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, we go, they got a good.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Okay, here we go. Where's twenty six?
- 7:31Speaker 8: Right?
- 7:32Speaker 3: Like that was the game?
- 7:33Speaker 6: Yeah, So I hope I'm not stealing Jim Murray's version
- 7:37Speaker 6: of that. But he did a great version of Felgrim as.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, no, and I saw the compilation online today
- 7:42Speaker 1: and it sounded just like him.
- 7:43Speaker 3: It was good.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Yeah, but it is kind of like why are cadences?
- 7:46Speaker 5: Like why does everyone say green green nineteen or white
- 7:49Speaker 5: white white eighty white eighty?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:52Speaker 5: Why? I don't know. Is there like a science behind
- 7:54Speaker 5: cadences show?
- 7:55Speaker 1: I don't know. It's a good question though, like where
- 7:58Speaker 1: do cadences come from?
- 7:59Speaker 6: Like Brady's so distinct, like you always all fuck out,
- 8:02Speaker 6: you know, like you can hear it, but you know,
- 8:04Speaker 6: just I don't know. I mean, everybody who's played football
- 8:06Speaker 6: in those day and then you get up there and
- 8:07Speaker 6: you say white eighty, and like why do we.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Say white whatever happened to down set right?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Too predictable? Need something different.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Like technobile hot hot Hute.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I do hut we were NFL blitz technobiles.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I think that's a good, good side story, good feature.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Where do cadences come from? Yeah? And like who had
- 8:29Speaker 1: you know some of the more unique cadences over the
- 8:32Speaker 1: history of football. It might be a Friday question for Bill.
- 8:35Speaker 3: I'll work. I'll work on that, you know, I'll bet.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Your Bill would have it thirty five minutes later. Yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 6: white eighties does it some kind of like rhythm? I
- 8:42Speaker 6: mean there is a little like it's kind of fun
- 8:43Speaker 6: to say white eighty you know, like, yeah, it comes
- 8:45Speaker 6: off the tongue at Green Knights.
- 8:46Speaker 1: When I when the first time I heard that, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: was at Bryant College at training camp, and I thought
- 8:50Speaker 1: they were saying white lady for some reason. Why are
- 8:53Speaker 1: they saying white lady? White lady? Yes? Right, all right,
- 8:59Speaker 1: that's topic for another day.
- 9:02Speaker 6: So just a real quick thing, you know, when that
- 9:03Speaker 6: day is, I don't take that one off. So I
- 9:07Speaker 6: got a little I got a little frustrated this morning.
- 9:09Speaker 6: So they went back and watched the twenty to not
- 9:11Speaker 6: the all of it, but a little the twenty twenty
- 9:13Speaker 6: one game out here against the Saints, and it was
- 9:15Speaker 6: like I was watching a carbon copy of.
- 9:17Speaker 5: The Patriots team that we have right now, where it
- 9:19Speaker 5: was like fell into a hole.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Mac Jones comes out in the third quarter, first pass,
- 9:24Speaker 6: there was a pick six, you know, like just couldn't
- 9:26Speaker 6: ever get anything. And it's just like not to start
- 9:29Speaker 6: it on a negative note, but it's just kind of
- 9:30Speaker 6: to watch that and be like, God, we're still fighting
- 9:33Speaker 6: the same exact things that we fought last year, coming
- 9:36Speaker 6: out slow, getting into a hole, not being able. Then
- 9:40Speaker 6: at the end they finally get within eight points. As
- 9:43Speaker 6: Paul mentioned, Taysom Hill leads a charge down the.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Field, they put it away, they add another touchdown.
- 9:48Speaker 6: So it just was a little bit of perspective this
- 9:50Speaker 6: morning looking at this Saints team, being like, how the
- 9:52Speaker 6: heck did we lose? Like, you know, you see high
- 9:54Speaker 6: Tower out there, you know, you see some guys that
- 9:56Speaker 6: you know, you think would have changed things a little bit.
- 9:59Speaker 6: But it was just kind of like watching the same
- 10:01Speaker 6: team that they're rolling out right now, is the same
- 10:03Speaker 6: kind of stuff happening in that game which which they lost,
- 10:06Speaker 6: And I mean, I think that was the third game
- 10:07Speaker 6: of Max career. It was the third worst passer rating
- 10:12Speaker 6: between the Buffalo game and then the Chicago game that
- 10:14Speaker 6: he just briefly kind of made an appearance for a quarter.
- 10:16Speaker 5: So you know, that Saints team.
- 10:18Speaker 6: I know it's different and it's changed, but it was
- 10:21Speaker 6: one of his worst performances, you know, up until last weekend.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Something to think about.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Weather is possible rain about fifty.
- 10:30Speaker 6: I'm not doing it this week, Fred, Yeah, I'm playing
- 10:33Speaker 6: positively whatever.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Possible rain on Sunday. But you know, we'll see about
- 10:38Speaker 1: that as we get closer. But yeah, I mean I
- 10:42Speaker 1: don't know, like how how is the Saints when it
- 10:46Speaker 1: comes to pressure compared to what we saw last week
- 10:49Speaker 1: with the Cowboys?
- 10:50Speaker 3: Not great, Bob No, not a great pressuring front. I mean, Cameron,
- 10:53Speaker 3: Jordan and Granderson are still good players on the edge,
- 10:56Speaker 3: but this is easily the worst front that they've played
- 10:59Speaker 3: so far.
- 11:00Speaker 6: I think Grantish is just two and a half sacks,
- 11:02Speaker 6: and I mean it's not very productive.
- 11:03Speaker 4: They're in the twenties and sack percentage per pass play,
- 11:07Speaker 4: which is very atypical of a Saints defense. They're usually
- 11:12Speaker 4: pretty tough upfront, but they have not gotten off to
- 11:14Speaker 4: a good start in that department.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I think they're thirty first in pressure rate. Yeah, so
- 11:18Speaker 3: they're they're not a very that that in that sense,
- 11:21Speaker 3: this is a weakness on weakness matchup. They're not a
- 11:24Speaker 3: great pass rush and the Patriots are not great at
- 11:26Speaker 3: pass protection, so which everyone can be not stinky.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But maybe it's gonna be maybe a little reprieve from
- 11:33Speaker 1: last week in that just that. Yeah, and just that
- 11:37Speaker 1: category for for Mac, you know, maybe you'll have a
- 11:40Speaker 1: little bit more time. I think he had more time
- 11:43Speaker 1: than he thought he did last week.
- 11:45Speaker 6: But I you know, I just wonder if he was
- 11:47Speaker 6: primed to like fall apart because they were so worried
- 11:50Speaker 6: about Parsons and then once it started happening, it just
- 11:52Speaker 6: kind of exacerbated it and that's when he lost his mind.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Maybe I don't know he I mean, he he spoke
- 11:59Speaker 3: this morning just recently, a couple of minutes ago, and
- 12:02Speaker 3: I thought he was pretty telling what he said about how,
- 12:08Speaker 3: you know, his process. He's got to be one of
- 12:10Speaker 3: those guys that plays within the structure of the scheme,
- 12:13Speaker 3: and he admitted that he didn't do that on Sunday,
- 12:17Speaker 3: And you know, I think he kind of, like Mike said,
- 12:19Speaker 3: like kind of lost his mind. Like I don't think he.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I think he sort of lost track of you know,
- 12:24Speaker 3: what are we running? What are what are the reads?
- 12:26Speaker 3: What are the routes in this play call? And like
- 12:29Speaker 3: what is the process for the quarterback? And he's one
- 12:32Speaker 3: of those guys that if he's not checking off those
- 12:34Speaker 3: boxes of all right, you know, this is what I'm
- 12:37Speaker 3: doing pre snap, this is what the read is, this
- 12:39Speaker 3: is what the routes are, this is the intention of
- 12:41Speaker 3: the play, and he just starts to just kind of
- 12:45Speaker 3: have a free for all. Then that's what it's going
- 12:47Speaker 3: to look like.
- 12:48Speaker 1: If he said that this morning and I did miss
- 12:50Speaker 1: his press conference, then you know that that's what the
- 12:54Speaker 1: message from his offensive coordinator was after the game is,
- 12:58Speaker 1: you know, you've got to stay within the pro pro here.
- 13:01Speaker 1: You know, you're not Brett Favre. You know you're not
- 13:03Speaker 1: a gun slinger. You got to this is this what
- 13:06Speaker 1: we call for. You got to do it.
- 13:08Speaker 6: It's got to be a terrifying place to be as
- 13:10Speaker 6: a quarterback when you feel like you're just not locked
- 13:12Speaker 6: into the game and each play you're running, I mean,
- 13:14Speaker 6: it's just it's such a dangerous sport as it is that.
- 13:17Speaker 6: I mean, you could get yourself killed back there as
- 13:19Speaker 6: a quarterback if you don't know where the pressure is
- 13:20Speaker 6: gonna come from, or you.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Know, when you got to get the ball out, where
- 13:23Speaker 5: you got to get the ball out quick? Who's your
- 13:25Speaker 5: hot guy? All those things?
- 13:26Speaker 4: So I hope.
- 13:27Speaker 6: I mean, I'm kind of starting to write about it,
- 13:29Speaker 6: and you know, tend to watch and stuff of. Just
- 13:30Speaker 6: like I said yesterday, give him Mack a chance to
- 13:33Speaker 6: bounce back this week. It's a long season. I don't
- 13:35Speaker 6: need to, you know, make them walk the plank right now.
- 13:38Speaker 6: But I think that there's a lot of pressure on
- 13:39Speaker 6: him for this game, at least to you know, as
- 13:42Speaker 6: Evan said, the pressure rate isn't great. So I mean,
- 13:43Speaker 6: you know it's not like we all think Max okay
- 13:46Speaker 6: when when when he's protected, But can our offensive line
- 13:49Speaker 6: protect against even this out front?
- 13:50Speaker 1: I mean, here's a fast start for him anyway, because
- 13:55Speaker 1: if there isn't, you got the hometown fans here and
- 13:58Speaker 1: they're not going to be quiet.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Do you think that that there's a leash for Mac.
- 14:03Speaker 1: In this game?
- 14:03Speaker 3: Like if he messes up, well, I mean, if it's
- 14:05Speaker 3: if it's shaky early.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Do you think he makes a move shaky No, but
- 14:09Speaker 1: like if he throws a pick six or just it's
- 14:13Speaker 1: just out of his mind. I think, yeah, I think
- 14:15Speaker 1: they get him out of there because it's just gonna
- 14:17Speaker 1: get it's just gonna snowball.
- 14:19Speaker 5: Well that's the sphere, right. But I think it's a
- 14:21Speaker 5: good question by Paul, like what do you got? What
- 14:22Speaker 5: do you what do you think going into the game.
- 14:24Speaker 1: And I don't have an answer. I don't know.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I don't know what Bill's thinking. So I just it's
- 14:28Speaker 4: like one.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Of those things you know when you see it and
- 14:30Speaker 5: you feel But I but I just be extra primed for.
- 14:32Speaker 6: That because how we fell apart last week and how
- 14:35Speaker 6: it did snowball on and they have to consider, you
- 14:38Speaker 6: need this win so much.
- 14:39Speaker 5: We can't let Mac lose this game this week.
- 14:41Speaker 6: If he doesn't have it again, we got to get
- 14:42Speaker 6: him out of there quicker, you know, and try to
- 14:44Speaker 6: and try to find I guess Zappi in.
- 14:46Speaker 5: There to you know, stop the bleeding and maybe put
- 14:48Speaker 5: something together.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I gotta, you know, you wonder like, okay, well, they
- 14:52Speaker 1: protect him within the game plan. In other words, like
- 14:56Speaker 1: whatever they decide, this is what we're gonna do at
- 14:58Speaker 1: least in the first half, is Jets? Is it?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Is it conservative with the goal of we're gonna protect
- 15:05Speaker 1: our quarterback here, we're gonna simplify things. And if you
- 15:08Speaker 1: do that then again and then it comes down to
- 15:10Speaker 1: your defense keeping your win the game.
- 15:12Speaker 6: You know, I mean their nineteenth in Blitz, right, so
- 15:14Speaker 6: you know it sounds like you know, generally they're gonna
- 15:16Speaker 6: be a team that's just gonna do what they do
- 15:17Speaker 6: with their front four, So you know that, I mean,
- 15:19Speaker 6: that should be a favorable matchup. I think Evan and
- 15:22Speaker 6: I were even talking a little bit about like, is
- 15:24Speaker 6: now the time to make some changes on the offensive line?
- 15:26Speaker 6: Is this the point where you consider, like he suggested
- 15:29Speaker 6: yesterday with moving them when you or doing something about
- 15:31Speaker 6: with Darian Lowe trying to give Calvin Anderson another chance
- 15:34Speaker 6: over there is Riley Reef out there.
- 15:36Speaker 5: When Kevin goes out to Kevin.
- 15:38Speaker 6: Kevin, Eric, Kevin, I'm gonna call you, Kevin for not
- 15:42Speaker 6: you know, is that is it time to really try
- 15:44Speaker 6: to drill down on the offensive line because I think,
- 15:46Speaker 6: you know, I don't think Max's gonna be set up
- 15:48Speaker 6: for success if if they're giving up, you know, eight
- 15:50Speaker 6: nine pressures a game off the right tackles edge.
- 15:52Speaker 5: It's just it's not.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's that bad, Like it's that bad
- 15:59Speaker 3: that you have to you almost have to do something
- 16:02Speaker 3: drastic along the offensive line, like maybe it's Reef, Like
- 16:05Speaker 3: maybe Reef is healthy and you couldn't. But he's got
- 16:11Speaker 3: to be better than what he's got.
- 16:12Speaker 9: To be, right.
- 16:13Speaker 6: I still don't know how Calvin Anderson is in or
- 16:15Speaker 6: how you know at this point, City so comes off
- 16:17Speaker 6: the rush unless maybe he's back in the mix.
- 16:20Speaker 5: But all those guys were disastered.
- 16:21Speaker 1: But as Evan said yesterday, let's let's get the best
- 16:26Speaker 1: five guys out there. Yeah, yeah, let's get the best
- 16:29Speaker 1: five out there.
- 16:29Speaker 6: And I'd say, like to Paul's point, so yes in
- 16:32Speaker 6: the back yes question which fuck?
- 16:35Speaker 1: So?
- 16:36Speaker 3: I I think it's pretty clear at this point that
- 16:39Speaker 3: your best four at the moment is Trent, Andrews, Big Mic,
- 16:44Speaker 3: and Antonio Mafi.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Not cold Strange, No, not cold strange, wow, miss not
- 16:52Speaker 1: not at Fred strange idea.
- 16:57Speaker 4: So when you Andrews, Mafi, Trent Brown, who's the fifth?
- 17:01Speaker 3: I think it will be cold Strange because I think
- 17:03Speaker 3: you have to go down with that ship unfortunately, Like
- 17:06Speaker 3: you drafted the guy in the.
- 17:07Speaker 4: First round, but you said, just go with the five best.
- 17:09Speaker 4: So who do you think is the fifth best?
- 17:11Speaker 3: Oh God, you're asking you're asking me to pick out
- 17:14Speaker 3: of like what I would I would say cold Strange
- 17:17Speaker 3: is probably the best. In terms, it is the fifth best.
- 17:20Speaker 4: So would you want it Strange at left guard, Mafi
- 17:24Speaker 4: at right guard, at right tackle?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Correct, Yeah, it's not a bad You're you're a month
- 17:31Speaker 3: in and it's been an abject disaster on the offensive line,
- 17:35Speaker 3: Like literally an abject disaster. I've never seen a Patriots
- 17:38Speaker 3: offensive line look like this.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Would you say, now at this point, it's ability or communication?
- 17:44Speaker 3: I would say it's ability. Like they can't block anybody.
- 17:47Speaker 3: They can't they can't run the ball, they can't pass protect.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Their right tackle is a turnstile. Whoever they put out there,
- 17:53Speaker 3: whether it's Calvin Anderson Orvidarian Low like this, this like
- 17:56Speaker 3: frustrates me to no end for two reasons. One, we
- 18:00Speaker 3: we knew this, like you knew you knew this was
- 18:02Speaker 3: coming at right tackle, you knew you had no good
- 18:05Speaker 3: right tackles, and you did it anyways. And two, like
- 18:08Speaker 3: offensive line play is like relatively simple. It's it's relatively
- 18:12Speaker 3: simple in the sense that like you block inside out,
- 18:15Speaker 3: just just don't let the guy beat you to the
- 18:18Speaker 3: inside and then try your best to funnel him to
- 18:20Speaker 3: the outside. And they they can't even do the fundamentally get.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Somewhat complicated when the other team is playing games and
- 18:27Speaker 1: you have to communicate.
- 18:28Speaker 3: But teams aren't like teams are stunting, but every team stunts,
- 18:33Speaker 3: like they the Cowboys just ran, like they just lined
- 18:36Speaker 3: up their four guys and they just beat you like
- 18:38Speaker 3: a drop all night long, like that's all they did.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Like it wasn't they didn't. They put Parsons over Vederian
- 18:43Speaker 3: Low and they just rushed four guys the whole game.
- 18:46Speaker 3: And that's that's that's you know, that's hard for the quarterback.
- 18:51Speaker 3: That that Even with Brady, we always used to say
- 18:53Speaker 3: that if you can get home with four and you
- 18:54Speaker 3: can drop seven in coverage, that's your formula. Mac is
- 18:59Speaker 3: one of those quarters. And I think because if you
- 19:02Speaker 3: start blitzing and taking guys out of coverage, like he'll
- 19:04Speaker 3: know where to go with the ball to beat the blitz.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Last year he didn't know where to go with the ball.
- 19:09Speaker 3: But I think that was more about coaching and coordination
- 19:11Speaker 3: this year with Bill O'Brien, I think he would know
- 19:14Speaker 3: where his hots are, know where his outlets are. If
- 19:17Speaker 3: you did bring pressure, they're just getting home with four.
- 19:22Speaker 3: They gotta do something with the offensive line. They absolutely have.
- 19:25Speaker 4: What I would do if I were a defensive coordinator
- 19:27Speaker 4: along the lines of what Evan's talking about is I
- 19:29Speaker 4: would make sure absolutely huge part of my game plan.
- 19:34Speaker 4: I need to hit him on the first or second series.
- 19:37Speaker 4: I need to hit him early, and then he'll think
- 19:40Speaker 4: about that, because I think we've seen that, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 4: throughout some of these throughout some of these games. I
- 19:47Speaker 4: think when he gets hit and knocked around early and
- 19:49Speaker 4: now that clock goes faster for him, and then you
- 19:52Speaker 4: don't have to go like way out of your comfort
- 19:54Speaker 4: zone if you don't blitz a lot. I wouldn't suggest
- 19:56Speaker 4: blitzing him a lot, because I think Evan's right. I
- 19:58Speaker 4: think he you know, lot of times those are the
- 20:00Speaker 4: easy throws to make. Is the quick you know, get
- 20:04Speaker 4: the ball out quick, no thought to be had. You
- 20:06Speaker 4: have a hot guy and you just go to him. Yeah,
- 20:08Speaker 4: and that's what he did against Philadelphia a lot.
- 20:10Speaker 6: I think this is a place to Paul, I think
- 20:12Speaker 6: your philosophy i'd like to see which is I'd like
- 20:15Speaker 6: to see so again. I know he wasn't good, but
- 20:17Speaker 6: like Jake Andrews, like they have you know, four fifths
- 20:21Speaker 6: of their offensive line are going to be free agents three,
- 20:23Speaker 6: you know, at least three of them.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So they got to.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Figure out what they have with those guys. I'd love
- 20:28Speaker 5: to see, you know, more of so just to give
- 20:30Speaker 5: him another chance, maybe he can play right tackle.
- 20:32Speaker 6: I just I wouldn't be opposed to getting a young
- 20:34Speaker 6: guy who's under contract, who has some potential. The question
- 20:37Speaker 6: for me was just Jake Andrews, Like, how do you
- 20:39Speaker 6: get Jake Andrews in there? What's Jake Andrew's gonna do?
- 20:41Speaker 5: Is he gonna be on him until I know, well,
- 20:43Speaker 5: I don't know, I don't know.
- 20:44Speaker 4: I just didn't think he looks in the summer but
- 20:47Speaker 4: never But to the point like I would rather I
- 20:51Speaker 4: like Evan's sort of hypothetical there, but I even if
- 20:56Speaker 4: if it doesn't go to that, I would rather see
- 20:58Speaker 4: Calvin Anderson get another check because I STI kind of
- 21:00Speaker 4: considering a younger guy even though he's not you know,
- 21:04Speaker 4: he's not a rookie. He was bad. Like the Miami
- 21:07Speaker 4: game was really bad for him. Like, I'm not an offense.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I think he was. I think he was worse than Erian.
- 21:12Speaker 4: No, no, no, in that game. I absolutely would agree.
- 21:15Speaker 4: But maybe you know, you step back and you look
- 21:17Speaker 4: a little bit, maybe he you know, he wasn't really
- 21:20Speaker 4: ready yet, you know, based on all the time.
- 21:22Speaker 3: At least Vaderian Lowe has been like a speed bump
- 21:24Speaker 3: to the quarterback, like because he usually gets his hands
- 21:27Speaker 3: on the guy. He was really bad in the Miami game,
- 21:30Speaker 3: you know, Calvin Anderson, it just wasn't it was you know, Ola,
- 21:33Speaker 3: Like it wasn't even getting his hands on people. City
- 21:36Speaker 3: So at left guard is interesting to me because that's
- 21:38Speaker 3: where he played in college, was left guard, and that's
- 21:41Speaker 3: like his natural position. So if you wanted to convince
- 21:45Speaker 3: me to have City So at left guard and Mafia
- 21:48Speaker 3: at right guard and on when it had tackled and like,
- 21:50Speaker 3: I can buy into that. I just don't think that
- 21:53Speaker 3: they'll move off Cold Strange.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Maybe maybe maybe you put Cole Strange at right guard.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I think that they're pretty settled with him being a
- 22:01Speaker 3: left card. But you I mean, maybe it's a really.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Bad place for any team to be playing musical chairs
- 22:07Speaker 1: with your offensive line.
- 22:09Speaker 3: What time is practicing one tenth one tent while?
- 22:12Speaker 4: Because I think this is one of the more interesting
- 22:14Speaker 4: Evan is returned from practices, what we're going to have
- 22:17Speaker 4: because I think, yeah, the Wooten will be out there.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I would think based on the way everybody seems to
- 22:22Speaker 4: be reacting. But will you see Riley Reef? Will you
- 22:25Speaker 4: see anybody else?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Uh?
- 22:27Speaker 4: That that is.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Kind of flowers?
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that will really bumm me out too.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Riley Reef is an interesting one. Like if even if
- 22:35Speaker 3: he even if he's just an okay run blocker, like
- 22:38Speaker 3: they're dead last in the league and run blocking like
- 22:41Speaker 3: they can't they don't block the run well. So even
- 22:45Speaker 3: if you can just get you know, to Fred's point
- 22:47Speaker 3: of like getting you know, off to a good start,
- 22:50Speaker 3: and like their early down offense is brutal like that
- 22:53Speaker 3: a lot of people. I feel like we always talk
- 22:55Speaker 3: about third down and this like it's a sexy down.
- 22:58Speaker 3: The first and second down is the team that move
- 23:00Speaker 3: the ball well and score a lot of points are
- 23:02Speaker 3: great on first and second down. Yeah, they run the ball,
- 23:04Speaker 3: they play action off of it, they have different things
- 23:07Speaker 3: to work off of first and second down. That's like
- 23:09Speaker 3: the foundation of your off.
- 23:10Speaker 1: At the Cowboys. I don't know the actual stats, you
- 23:13Speaker 1: guys probably know, but like what were the their average
- 23:16Speaker 1: second down? Like I saw, I remember a lot of
- 23:18Speaker 1: second in threes, you know, like that. In other words,
- 23:21Speaker 1: good first down.
- 23:22Speaker 4: Play Those are the Brandon Cooks throws.
- 23:25Speaker 1: I think three.
- 23:26Speaker 4: I think he cut four passes. I bet your three
- 23:28Speaker 4: of them were on first downs. That created like second
- 23:31Speaker 4: and three and second and two.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Then that opens up your playbook, It makes it easier,
- 23:35Speaker 1: takes the pressure off everybody that's living. That's that's good living.
- 23:39Speaker 1: If you're on an offense.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Well, and then if you're good offensively and you're consistently
- 23:42Speaker 4: in those kinds of situations, that's when you make big plays,
- 23:44Speaker 4: right when you know when you get seven on first
- 23:47Speaker 4: down and you say to yourself, I have this first down, let's.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Just do a QB sneak.
- 23:53Speaker 6: Right seethings, but they happen in two we can just
- 23:57Speaker 6: pick up a first down.
- 23:57Speaker 3: They have to figure out a way to run the ball.
- 23:59Speaker 3: They have to figure out a way to run the ball.
- 24:01Speaker 3: If they can't run the ball, they're screwed. And if
- 24:04Speaker 3: that means putting Riley Reef at right tackle just because
- 24:07Speaker 3: he's kind of like that hard nosed run blocker type
- 24:10Speaker 3: of player, then fine, if that at least gives you
- 24:12Speaker 3: something so at left guard because he's a better run
- 24:16Speaker 3: blocker than Strange, like whatever the equation is. They have
- 24:19Speaker 3: to figure out how to run the football because that's
- 24:22Speaker 3: they're only you know, play action in sixteen percent of
- 24:25Speaker 3: the time. It's not enough with this quarterback. He needs
- 24:27Speaker 3: to play action to be closer to thirty percent of
- 24:29Speaker 3: the time. But you can't sequence all of that stuff
- 24:32Speaker 3: together if you're not running the ball.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Well, you know, they might just have to bite the bullet,
- 24:36Speaker 1: play a lot of tackle eligible, just bring the guy
- 24:39Speaker 1: in just for an extra blocker, or go twelve, but
- 24:42Speaker 1: make it farough, you know as the extra blocker you
- 24:47Speaker 1: know in there, and just you know, limit your options
- 24:50Speaker 1: you know, downfield. But like you just might have to
- 24:52Speaker 1: do that.
- 24:53Speaker 3: They're tight ends, Like now that I'm on this whole
- 24:56Speaker 3: thing about the run game, they're tight ends. Stink at
- 24:59Speaker 3: run blocking. They stay. Pharaoh is like better than Henry
- 25:03Speaker 3: and Gasicki, but it's not like he's like a game
- 25:06Speaker 3: changing run blocker, Like he's just better than what they
- 25:09Speaker 3: have and they have to run thirteen personnel because none
- 25:13Speaker 3: of their tight ends can block. Yeah, so that's it.
- 25:15Speaker 3: And on top of that, I think one thing that
- 25:18Speaker 3: O'Brien can kind of help them out with is like,
- 25:20Speaker 3: can we stop using the tight ends at the point
- 25:22Speaker 3: of attack in the running game because they can't block.
- 25:25Speaker 3: So like having you know, running to the strength of
- 25:28Speaker 3: the formation where the tight ends are is doing you
- 25:31Speaker 3: no good because those guys can't block. So let's maybe
- 25:34Speaker 3: run it away from the tight end, or let's not
- 25:36Speaker 3: use Mike Gisiki as a lead blocker, you know, coming
- 25:39Speaker 3: through the hole, because he's not kicking anybody out. So
- 25:43Speaker 3: they've had Gasiki block way more than he should. Henry
- 25:47Speaker 3: is just not a very good blocker, and Pharaoh Brown
- 25:49Speaker 3: is what he is, and that that's where you're at
- 25:52Speaker 3: with the tight end.
- 25:53Speaker 6: It's just an interesting shift in philosophy to me because
- 25:55Speaker 6: I feel like they got more out of like a
- 25:57Speaker 6: Dan Graham type who you know is probably more on
- 25:59Speaker 6: the blocking and but allowed the run game to excel,
- 26:03Speaker 6: allowed the passing game around him to excel, and you know,
- 26:06Speaker 6: they didn't add Ferol Brown until after cuts, you know,
- 26:08Speaker 6: and so this is something that they've known that they've had.
- 26:11Speaker 6: When they had Hunter Henry and then they signed gets Sicky,
- 26:13Speaker 6: they knew they weren't getting another you know, legit blocking.
- 26:16Speaker 5: But it's it's just been.
- 26:18Speaker 6: A problem for me a lot of these times when
- 26:19Speaker 6: you just see these plays and it's like Hunter Henry
- 26:21Speaker 6: just he just doesn't get any push, you know, there's
- 26:23Speaker 6: not and I think you know, and it all connects,
- 26:25Speaker 6: like we talked about how the offensive line just can't
- 26:27Speaker 6: get to the second level and get guys blocked beyond
- 26:29Speaker 6: the line of scrimmage.
- 26:30Speaker 5: At best, it's going to be maybe a stalemate. Maybe
- 26:33Speaker 5: they get a little bit of a push.
- 26:34Speaker 6: But there's never you know, guys climbing to the second
- 26:37Speaker 6: level and we're getting blocks on linebackers and safeties. It's
- 26:40Speaker 6: you know, it's like maybe Remander breaks a couple of
- 26:42Speaker 6: tackles and is able to get eight yards, but that's
- 26:45Speaker 6: about the best that their run game can do right now.
- 26:47Speaker 1: They've been chasing offense since Brady left, and you know,
- 26:50Speaker 1: it's it's not that.
- 26:52Speaker 6: So it's just like bug me about watching the twenty
- 26:54Speaker 6: twenty one game because it's like it's Agualore out there.
- 26:56Speaker 6: It's John hus Smith like, and it's just like they're
- 26:59Speaker 6: all the same kind of guy guys, you know, like
- 27:01Speaker 6: they catch the ball, they get out of bounds, there's
- 27:02Speaker 6: no big plays there, you know.
- 27:04Speaker 5: It's it's been the same thing.
- 27:05Speaker 6: So I imagine everybody's as sick of it as we are,
- 27:08Speaker 6: and just hopefully they can turn the corner at some
- 27:10Speaker 6: point here. But I don't know what's going to take.
- 27:13Speaker 1: All right. Eight five five PATS five hundred is the
- 27:15Speaker 1: A Sticket hotline web radio at Patriots dot com is
- 27:18Speaker 1: the email address.
- 27:20Speaker 6: Jason mccordy's really rocking these uh these overallasy.
- 27:23Speaker 3: He likes to show off a little bit.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I would too. I look like him. I
- 27:29Speaker 1: never put my shirt.
- 27:30Speaker 6: I know, he looks like he's a little when he.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Was here in the locker put his shirt on. Pencils.
- 27:36Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the phones. Lots of emails
- 27:42Speaker 1: once again, like yesterday. People want to chime in and
- 27:46Speaker 1: I understand, so let's get to it. Matthews in New Mexico,
- 27:49Speaker 1: what's up, Matthew. Matthew, Hey, a little Morse code in
- 27:55Speaker 1: the back.
- 27:57Speaker 10: I'm with it, and like we have to show that
- 27:58Speaker 10: we can block a whole game and like just be consistent,
- 28:03Speaker 10: no matter if that's kick on waiting after the right
- 28:05Speaker 10: or whatever. We have to do, Like they have to
- 28:07Speaker 10: show that they can block. And Cameron Cameron Jordan's no joke,
- 28:11Speaker 10: you know. But my question for you guys is like
- 28:15Speaker 10: another hypothetical. So we know that we're not taking So
- 28:18Speaker 10: it's just a hypothetical, like we're like seven to ten
- 28:23Speaker 10: or fifteen or whatever in the draft, and we go, like,
- 28:27Speaker 10: you know, we change the regime to Ben Jonson, Like
- 28:29Speaker 10: do you if you're Ben Jonson, if you're Robert Kraft,
- 28:33Speaker 10: do you guys give him a chance to like work
- 28:35Speaker 10: with Max and see what they can do and I
- 28:37Speaker 10: try to, you know, bring him back. Or if we're
- 28:41Speaker 10: in like that middle of the range in the draft,
- 28:43Speaker 10: should we still try to get a quarterback or even
- 28:46Speaker 10: go in the free agency and try to get a
- 28:49Speaker 10: veteran and.
- 28:49Speaker 1: There, thanks, thanks Matthew, listen. I mean, if Max, if
- 28:57Speaker 1: Max here, obviously he's got to work with him. But
- 28:59Speaker 1: I like, if you're in seven to fifteen and the
- 29:02Speaker 1: guy you love, you know they're gonna scout quarterbacks, Okay,
- 29:05Speaker 1: they're not going to go into you know, this college
- 29:09Speaker 1: season not looking at quarterbacks. If the guy they love
- 29:12Speaker 1: is available at seven to fifteen, you can get them,
- 29:14Speaker 1: you get them. I don't care if you've decided to
- 29:17Speaker 1: keep Mac or you still got to get him, you're
- 29:20Speaker 1: you're in the quarterback market. If if there's a guy
- 29:23Speaker 1: you love and he's available.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Except to the new regime, you if you move on
- 29:27Speaker 4: from Bill, whoever comes in is probably going to be
- 29:30Speaker 4: a coach and a GM. Yeah, it's up to that.
- 29:33Speaker 4: I don't care if, like if Ben Johnson says like, yeah, no,
- 29:36Speaker 4: I've watched a lot of Mac Jones, and I think
- 29:39Speaker 4: it's fixable. I think we have there's plenty here to
- 29:41Speaker 4: work with, and that's what he wants.
- 29:43Speaker 1: That's fine.
- 29:44Speaker 4: But if he on the flip side he says we
- 29:48Speaker 4: need to do better at that position, then you have
- 29:50Speaker 4: to figure out how you go from there.
- 29:53Speaker 5: This guy can't do what I want to do.
- 29:54Speaker 6: I mean, I would say, right now as we sit here,
- 29:56Speaker 6: my you know philosophy, right or wrong would be to
- 29:58Speaker 6: retain Mac and get that high round pick on a
- 30:01Speaker 6: weapon of some sort, whether it's a wide receiver or
- 30:04Speaker 6: tight end.
- 30:04Speaker 5: You know, somebody who really moves the needle. Give Mac
- 30:07Speaker 5: a chance.
- 30:07Speaker 6: For a year to two years, and if he does too,
- 30:11Speaker 6: you've gotten out. You've gotten out with Mac when his
- 30:13Speaker 6: contract ends. I mean, that's just you know, my my
- 30:16Speaker 6: thinking of it is, it's been so hard to find
- 30:19Speaker 6: weapons that really move the needle, and I just.
- 30:21Speaker 5: I struggle with happening with what happened to Mac.
- 30:24Speaker 6: I almost think they got lucky with Mac because we see,
- 30:27Speaker 6: we saw what happened kind of in that middle range,
- 30:28Speaker 6: and we can talk about fields if he was here
- 30:30Speaker 6: and how it might look different.
- 30:31Speaker 5: But I just hate the idea of being like, we
- 30:33Speaker 5: got the fourth best quarterback in the draft. You know,
- 30:35Speaker 5: we picked the fourth quarterback, Like I.
- 30:37Speaker 6: If you can get one or two, I feel pretty
- 30:39Speaker 6: good about it. But what are the chances that they're like, well,
- 30:41Speaker 6: we actually like the fourth quarterback best, like you know,
- 30:44Speaker 6: and that's what we're kind of sol.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Well Mac Mac to really believe that, not not, that's
- 30:48Speaker 1: just the public relations.
- 30:49Speaker 4: So yeah, it doesn't have to be a draft pick
- 30:51Speaker 4: if you don't have if you can't get the guy
- 30:54Speaker 4: you want, like Fred said, if there's the guy that
- 30:55Speaker 4: you want, then take him. But if you don't if
- 30:58Speaker 4: the guy you want isn't there, then yeah, then you
- 31:00Speaker 4: have to find another way to go about it. If
- 31:02Speaker 4: you've decided to move on, and like you know, like
- 31:04Speaker 4: we threw out there yesterday, Kirk Cousins, while you're waiting
- 31:08Speaker 4: to get in position to get the guy for the future.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Like I think that everybody just is so soured on
- 31:13Speaker 4: the draft and this is my boy, and I'll go
- 31:16Speaker 4: in and get yelled at today later, you know, Mike is,
- 31:19Speaker 4: like Felger is just so adamantly opposed to going back
- 31:22Speaker 4: in the draft and try to get a quote back
- 31:23Speaker 4: because quote it never works when there's a litany of
- 31:26Speaker 4: teams that have done it with first round draft because
- 31:30Speaker 4: almost all these guys are first round picks, and if
- 31:33Speaker 4: you want one of them, you generally you just got
- 31:36Speaker 4: to hit on it. It's not easy. I get that
- 31:38Speaker 4: that there's a lot of guys that get taken in
- 31:40Speaker 4: the first round that crap out, but there's a lot
- 31:44Speaker 4: of Josh Allen's, Patrick Mahomes's and Joe Burrows that don't.
- 31:47Speaker 4: You have to find one that doesn't.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Who was saying this is while Brady was here. I
- 31:51Speaker 1: don't know if it was somebody on our team. But
- 31:53Speaker 1: somebody said you should take a quarterback every year.
- 31:56Speaker 4: In the draft. In the draft, I'm gonna believeab.
- 31:59Speaker 3: That's a run of yes, yes, yeah, Okay, that's where
- 32:02Speaker 3: I packers.
- 32:03Speaker 4: And you know, it's just good business.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I mean the Patriots.
- 32:07Speaker 4: Almost do yep, yeah, Bill, Bill strongly.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Even when Brady was here, they they drafted like eight
- 32:12Speaker 3: other quarterbacks or something like that with Brady and I.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Could yeah, I mean, we could cover you some names
- 32:17Speaker 4: and you'd forget all about them.
- 32:18Speaker 1: But like, you know, the.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Cliff Kingsbury's and the Zach Robinson's of the world. It's
- 32:23Speaker 4: not just like I was gonna say, it's not just
- 32:25Speaker 4: high picks like Rohan Davey and Kevin O'Connell. You know,
- 32:28Speaker 4: Matt Castle, seventh round guy who didn't even start in college.
- 32:32Speaker 4: You know that just it's just good business to draft
- 32:35Speaker 4: and try to develop quarterbacks.
- 32:36Speaker 1: All right, Let's see, we'll go to Eric in New Jersey.
- 32:40Speaker 1: What's up? Eric?
- 32:42Speaker 11: Hey, guys, the J P. Jackson. You know again, it's
- 32:47Speaker 11: just you know, we're plugging holes. I get it would
- 32:49Speaker 11: have been criminal just to ride out with you know,
- 32:51Speaker 11: Bryan Wade and then whatever you're going to get back.
- 32:54Speaker 8: From the Jones guys.
- 32:55Speaker 11: I mean, it would have been criminal.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Just I agree with that, but it's the you're.
- 33:00Speaker 11: Just plugging holds. I mean, jac had he also had
- 33:03Speaker 11: ankle surgery this summer. Again. You know, I don't think
- 33:07Speaker 11: I didn't have high aspirations for this team. I think
- 33:09Speaker 11: you know, Paul's right, you know we're gonna get the
- 33:10Speaker 11: corpse to trade Flowers. That's called Dante. Let's bring the
- 33:13Speaker 11: gang back. I just don't I mean, Bill know you
- 33:17Speaker 11: can trade for offensive players.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Again.
- 33:19Speaker 11: I'm not saying that, you know, you gotta go break,
- 33:21Speaker 11: you know, break the world here, but this some something
- 33:24Speaker 11: out there and I'll take it off the line.
- 33:25Speaker 9: Thanks, guys.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, is this the time to do a
- 33:29Speaker 1: blockbuster trade? No?
- 33:31Speaker 4: And that like, and I'm not I'm not like storming
- 33:36Speaker 4: the best deal because they traded for J. C.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Jackson. I get it.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Evan's probably right. I'm being stubborn about this that you
- 33:43Speaker 4: have Sean Wade and you need better than Sean Wade.
- 33:46Speaker 4: I you know, I kind of look at it a
- 33:50Speaker 4: little bit more like the caller, just in terms of
- 33:53Speaker 4: my thoughts on the ensuing three months of the season.
- 33:56Speaker 4: But I understand why Bill can't look at it that way.
- 33:59Speaker 4: He can't there They're in the middle of an NFL.
- 34:02Speaker 1: It's like if someone's bleeding and you're not gonna give
- 34:04Speaker 1: them stitches, you gotta give them the stitches. But no,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but I agree with the call. It'd be criminal to
- 34:11Speaker 1: not do something at that position right now. It's not
- 34:15Speaker 1: fair to but it's not fair to everybody on the team.
- 34:17Speaker 5: I mean you can barely practice with them, you know.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean like if this was like at the
- 34:23Speaker 3: trade deadline, like a month from now, and they were,
- 34:26Speaker 3: you know, two and six or two and seven or
- 34:28Speaker 3: whatever the math is, I would say, like, what do
- 34:31Speaker 3: you what are you wasting your You're four games into
- 34:33Speaker 3: the season, like you still have thirteen games to go.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Do I think they're gonna turn it around? No, of
- 34:38Speaker 3: course not.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I don't.
- 34:39Speaker 3: I think we all don't think that. But like, is
- 34:41Speaker 3: there is there a world where where the offense, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 3: finally starts to come together with under Bill O'Brien and
- 34:49Speaker 3: his scheme starts to take hold and they start to
- 34:51Speaker 3: make some plays, And yeah, there is a dream world
- 34:54Speaker 3: where that happens, and this gives them a chance to
- 34:56Speaker 3: be competitive again on defense.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and do it.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Every time I say something stupid like this, it comes
- 35:04Speaker 4: back and on it'll haunt me. Well, they'll I'm just
- 35:07Speaker 4: not surprised that he was adding to the defense, let's
- 35:10Speaker 4: just put it that way. Well, I know, but at
- 35:12Speaker 4: this point, the offense is taking on water Fred, like
- 35:16Speaker 4: we're talking about, like there's some injuries in the secondary.
- 35:18Speaker 4: They're gonna get somebody. They don't have anybody when they're
- 35:21Speaker 4: healthy on offense. And evidently that's fine. Now tomorrow they'll
- 35:25Speaker 4: trade for Chase Claypool. They'll get another guy that another
- 35:28Speaker 4: team wants out of their building at all costs.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I'm just saying, but if you're bringing somebody on offense,
- 35:33Speaker 1: you're just you know, you're just.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Trying to improve your offense that is non existent.
- 35:39Speaker 1: But at this point, I don't know if you're going
- 35:41Speaker 1: to be able to do that in quarterback. It's at
- 35:45Speaker 1: quarterback you have to bring somebody in. It's a it's
- 35:47Speaker 1: a numbers game at this point too, not just you know, oh,
- 35:51Speaker 1: we got to do better than Sean Wade. We don't
- 35:53Speaker 1: have a lot of corners.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I think you don't have any wide receivers,
- 35:59Speaker 4: like you don't have any buddy that can make a plan.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You have wide receivers, but at.
- 36:02Speaker 4: Least we could talk like your thing, like all right,
- 36:04Speaker 4: let's have Sean Wade equivalent at wide receiver is what
- 36:07Speaker 4: you have. For some reason, you're okay with it.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I I think that's overstating it. I don't.
- 36:13Speaker 5: I mean, I think Thornton, Douglas, those are the you know, a.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Taekwond you know these guys.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Get those guys a chance, I mean, or anybody. I mean,
- 36:21Speaker 6: how much confidence do you have even if they traded
- 36:22Speaker 6: for a wide receiver.
- 36:23Speaker 4: I had my my Douglas thing yesterday, like eighteen snaps
- 36:26Speaker 4: for him is criminal criminal.
- 36:28Speaker 6: So there, I mean, that's the spot I think where
- 36:30Speaker 6: you talk about let's get the young guys, let's start
- 36:32Speaker 6: to make a move into that. I I just wonder,
- 36:34Speaker 6: at some point, are you going to see Douglas playing
- 36:36Speaker 6: over Juju.
- 36:37Speaker 5: And in the key moments Max Thorny but Douglas.
- 36:39Speaker 1: But that's the point you kind of have in house
- 36:42Speaker 1: resources that you haven't tapped yet that you could still use.
- 36:45Speaker 1: That's not the case of cornerback at this point. You know,
- 36:48Speaker 1: it's a different situation that they're in.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm talking myself back into Taekwon, Well I do it
- 36:55Speaker 3: every time?
- 36:56Speaker 1: Why not?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Well, well that's that's the main thing, is why not.
- 37:00Speaker 3: But I also thought in training camp, you know, the
- 37:03Speaker 3: little bit that we did see and in OTAs in
- 37:05Speaker 3: the spring, like, I do think that Bill O'Brien has
- 37:07Speaker 3: a plan of how to help him get off the
- 37:09Speaker 3: line of scrimmage, so he's not just going one on
- 37:12Speaker 3: one against press coverage all the time, which obviously he
- 37:14Speaker 3: can't do. And is it gonna be like this high volume, No,
- 37:18Speaker 3: of course not, like he's not gonna be a thousand
- 37:20Speaker 3: yard receiver, I don't think. But is it gonna bring
- 37:23Speaker 3: an element that they don't currently have?
- 37:26Speaker 1: It? Could?
- 37:26Speaker 3: I mean, the only guy that can run by anybody
- 37:28Speaker 3: on their current roster is is Douglas and they don't
- 37:32Speaker 3: play him. So it just they have to get some
- 37:36Speaker 3: speed on the field on offense, especially on the outside,
- 37:39Speaker 3: and maybe Taekwon can do that.
- 37:41Speaker 6: Do you think any of it comes at Bourne's expense?
- 37:42Speaker 6: I mean, do you think Bourne has done enough to conte.
- 37:44Speaker 3: What I kind of what I would love to see?
- 37:46Speaker 3: And like I get why you're asking the question because
- 37:48Speaker 3: they seem obsessed with Devonte Parker and Juju. They paid
- 37:52Speaker 3: him and they're gonna want to play him. But like
- 37:54Speaker 3: Pop Douglas, Taekwon, Kendrick Bourne, Mike ISSICKI is like the
- 37:59Speaker 3: fastest group that you could put out on the field.
- 38:01Speaker 3: And I get speed is in everything, but at least
- 38:03Speaker 3: like you have some element of dynamic, you know, movers
- 38:08Speaker 3: out there at that point, you know, I just they
- 38:11Speaker 3: gotta get some speed on the outside, and that's all
- 38:14Speaker 3: Taekwon is right now.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Donnie's in Pittsburgh. Hey Donnie, Hey all, thanks.
- 38:19Speaker 9: For taking the call again. Uh, they're just looking ahead
- 38:22Speaker 9: at the Saints. It's gonna be tough to win with
- 38:25Speaker 9: the injuries and everything that happened on defense. Uh, I
- 38:28Speaker 9: think it's gonna be even tougher to win if they're
- 38:30Speaker 9: rolling back out there again and you know, they're not
- 38:32Speaker 9: taking him out like you guys said early in the
- 38:34Speaker 9: game if he struggles. I know we called yesterday and
- 38:37Speaker 9: Evan kind of chuckled, you know, with the suggestion of
- 38:39Speaker 9: zappy in any way, and I really respect him. It's
- 38:41Speaker 9: knowledge as a football guy. You and Barth are two
- 38:44Speaker 9: of my favorites. But I'm looking at it from an
- 38:46Speaker 9: organizational standpoint and from the standpoint of his teammates. At
- 38:50Speaker 9: what point is it just time? You know? The hunter
- 38:52Speaker 9: Henry called Wei for his interview Monday morning. The dude
- 38:55Speaker 9: just sounds depressed. He sounds checked out. He's like, they
- 38:58Speaker 9: asked him how to fix it. He goes, so, I
- 39:00Speaker 9: don't know, stop turning the ball over. You know, It's
- 39:02Speaker 9: like the answer is just at quarterback. And you guys
- 39:05Speaker 9: are talking about they have to run the ball, they
- 39:07Speaker 9: have to do this to help them. They can't do
- 39:09Speaker 9: that because opposing defenses don't respect Mac. So it doesn't
- 39:12Speaker 9: matter how they line up, they're just not there.
- 39:14Speaker 3: But they're going to respect Zappy. Like I'm not trying
- 39:16Speaker 3: to come at you. I just like, I just don't
- 39:18Speaker 3: see how how Zappy changes that that equation, like that
- 39:23Speaker 3: they're now all of a sudden, they're not going to
- 39:25Speaker 3: stack the box because Bailey Zappi is at quarterback.
- 39:28Speaker 9: I think that might actually be true. I don't know
- 39:31Speaker 9: as much about football as you. I trust your evaluation
- 39:33Speaker 9: of Zappy, but you just look at the one series
- 39:35Speaker 9: he had the other day. You know, Parker who was
- 39:37Speaker 9: tired and had been running routes all day, all of
- 39:39Speaker 9: a sudden, pulls off his signature, moved to the sideline,
- 39:42Speaker 9: and the passes they are on time and the defense
- 39:44Speaker 9: isn't stacking the box and he's able to get it
- 39:46Speaker 9: out in the time the line gives him.
- 39:48Speaker 4: What if I told you Zappi played like five series
- 39:50Speaker 4: the other day, not one. He played like the last
- 39:55Speaker 4: half of the third quarter and all of the fourth.
- 39:59Speaker 1: And and you remember one.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Play and I listen, I thought Zapi looked better in
- 40:04Speaker 4: that game than Mac did. But that's really more of
- 40:07Speaker 4: an indictment on Mac. I didn't really I thought Zabi
- 40:10Speaker 4: did a good job of sliding around and moving a
- 40:13Speaker 4: little bit, but you know, he went four for nine.
- 40:17Speaker 4: You know, it wasn't like the offense was productive when
- 40:19Speaker 4: Zappi went in.
- 40:20Speaker 3: It wasn't they also.
- 40:23Speaker 4: Point and he was also getting Yeah, he was also
- 40:26Speaker 4: getting to play against the Cowboys defense that it decided
- 40:29Speaker 4: the game is over and they still couldn't move the ball.
- 40:32Speaker 3: Apparently the Patriots also decided to correct over. So that
- 40:36Speaker 3: I mean, like you can't if you want to point
- 40:38Speaker 3: to the last year's games with Bailey Zapi, then like
- 40:41Speaker 3: I guess fine, but you can't take anything away from
- 40:44Speaker 3: those snaps.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Zappian does not make the offense better and and if
- 40:49Speaker 1: things go south, putting him in just settles the crowd
- 40:54Speaker 1: a little bit. That's all it is. That's that's all
- 40:56Speaker 1: it is.
- 40:57Speaker 4: There was three series that he that he played and
- 40:59Speaker 4: they didn't move the ball and really had one.
- 41:01Speaker 6: I think that's the bigger question Fred, other than do
- 41:03Speaker 6: they have Mac on a leash? Is if Max starts slow,
- 41:06Speaker 6: does the stadium start chanting happy?
- 41:07Speaker 1: That's why I brought that up. Yeah, well that's why
- 41:10Speaker 1: I'm hoping for it, and I'm wondering starts so that
- 41:13Speaker 1: the you know, and like, who cares what the fans thing?
- 41:17Speaker 1: It can get ugly, It can get ugly, and you
- 41:19Speaker 1: don't want that for anybody. You don't want just because
- 41:21Speaker 1: I have to deal.
- 41:22Speaker 4: Well, just because Bill doesn't care doesn't mean that the
- 41:24Speaker 4: players don't, right, And I just would wonder if this
- 41:27Speaker 4: is going to be a situation where they feel like
- 41:28Speaker 4: they can't allow him to play a typically sort of
- 41:33Speaker 4: unencumbered game plan because for fear that he's gonna because
- 41:37Speaker 4: the be all, end all for everything that comes out
- 41:39Speaker 4: of that locker room has got to protect the ball
- 41:41Speaker 4: turnovers and if they just decide, well, we have to
- 41:44Speaker 4: play the way we played against the Jets. Great who
- 41:47Speaker 4: was buckle up for a thirteen to ten game, who.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Was Max teammate last year. That's it. You know, you're hearing,
- 41:52Speaker 1: you know, cries for he's no longer.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Here, he's on the Raiders.
- 41:56Speaker 4: He's now catching eighty games.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I understand that, but like he you know, players hear
- 42:01Speaker 1: this thing. Myself. Players hear this stuff, you know, and
- 42:05Speaker 1: not to mention the quarterback who it's all directed at,
- 42:08Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, but.
- 42:09Speaker 3: The I don't necessarily know if it's like like maybe
- 42:13Speaker 3: it is conservative. But they they only call they only
- 42:17Speaker 3: ran two screens the entire game last week, two screens
- 42:21Speaker 3: and some of the some of their RPOs, like we
- 42:23Speaker 3: had screens that they didn't throw and they ran the
- 42:25Speaker 3: ball and set. But like the bottom like you're facing
- 42:27Speaker 3: a pass rush like that and you'll only call two
- 42:30Speaker 3: screen passes and the first one was to Zeke in
- 42:32Speaker 3: like the second quarter. Like that was just really surprising
- 42:35Speaker 3: to me. So like to this point of like conservative
- 42:38Speaker 3: offense or like kind of putting the training wheels back on,
- 42:41Speaker 3: it's you know, it's play action it's screens, it's quick game,
- 42:44Speaker 3: like those are the things that they just didn't really
- 42:47Speaker 3: they kind of just like played them toe to toe
- 42:50Speaker 3: out of the gate on Sunday, and I think that they,
- 42:53Speaker 3: like me, I'm gonna like, they thought that they could
- 42:56Speaker 3: just do it right, Like they thought that they would
- 42:57Speaker 3: just be able to go toe to tweh with Dallas's defense,
- 43:01Speaker 3: and they didn't.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Really.
- 43:02Speaker 3: They chipped Parson some and things like that, but they didn't.
- 43:05Speaker 3: The play calling itself was not curtailed like it was
- 43:09Speaker 3: in Week one against Philly where they called I think
- 43:12Speaker 3: fourteen screens or something crazy like that, and they were
- 43:14Speaker 3: really careful about down in distance and not allowing the
- 43:19Speaker 3: Eagles front to tee off against Mac and things like that.
- 43:22Speaker 3: And then this week they just they just kind of
- 43:24Speaker 3: threw them out there and you saw what happened. So like,
- 43:27Speaker 3: I definitely think that the play calling has to be
- 43:30Speaker 3: significantly different. And if that's Conserva makes it conservative, then
- 43:33Speaker 3: that makes it conservative.
- 43:34Speaker 6: Well.
- 43:34Speaker 1: But but going back to like what Max said, I
- 43:37Speaker 1: have to stay within the program, and you know, if
- 43:41Speaker 1: you said that, I'm sure it's that sentiment is shared
- 43:44Speaker 1: with his coaches and so was part of last week's
- 43:48Speaker 1: failure Mac not staying in the program, and had he
- 43:51Speaker 1: it might have looked a little different. I don't I know, well,
- 43:54Speaker 1: with the calls that they were calling.
- 43:55Speaker 5: There was some place to be made that you missed.
- 43:57Speaker 6: I don't know if it would have made a difference in
- 43:58Speaker 6: the game, but I think they could have had a
- 44:00Speaker 6: little bit more successful.
- 44:01Speaker 3: I just think, like one hundred percent it would have
- 44:03Speaker 3: been better. But you got to you gotta get back
- 44:08Speaker 3: to finding some layups for him in this offense. Like
- 44:11Speaker 3: it can't it can't all be like Max look at
- 44:14Speaker 3: you know, drops back to pass and it's this progression
- 44:17Speaker 3: read and he's got to read out everything and make
- 44:19Speaker 3: the right Like. You gotta have some plays on first
- 44:22Speaker 3: and second down where it's just even if it's only
- 44:25Speaker 3: five yards, like it's just an easy dink and dunk, right,
- 44:28Speaker 3: it's just an easy throw, it's a run, it's something
- 44:31Speaker 3: like a screen, you know, anything to just kind of
- 44:35Speaker 3: get some early down momentum for the offense. Like I
- 44:39Speaker 3: think last week they put him in a lot of
- 44:41Speaker 3: you know, pretty pretty much like spread the field and
- 44:44Speaker 3: make some decisions. Like the very first play of the game,
- 44:47Speaker 3: they hit Hunter Henry for a fourteen yard completion on
- 44:50Speaker 3: play action and then they just like that was it?
- 44:53Speaker 3: You know, it just they gotta when you have a
- 44:56Speaker 3: quarterback that's limited like Mac, you gotta do things to
- 44:59Speaker 3: help him.
- 45:00Speaker 5: Why did they get away from all this stuff?
- 45:01Speaker 6: Because it seems like the same conversation we were having
- 45:03Speaker 6: last year where it was like they don't run any
- 45:04Speaker 6: play action, there's no motion, they're not doing any of
- 45:07Speaker 6: the things to help Mac, and yet even when they
- 45:09Speaker 6: do a little bit of it and have a little
- 45:11Speaker 6: bit of success, it seems like they get away from it.
- 45:13Speaker 6: Is it because they don't know Mac or they think
- 45:16Speaker 6: Mac can be something that he isn't yet and they're trying.
- 45:18Speaker 5: To like force that issue.
- 45:20Speaker 6: Like it's just like they seems like they're continually getting
- 45:23Speaker 6: away from what he does best and not playing to
- 45:25Speaker 6: his strengths and trying to like force him out of
- 45:27Speaker 6: his comfort zone.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:29Speaker 3: I don't know. I just I look at it similarly
- 45:32Speaker 3: in that the way that they play they ran the
- 45:36Speaker 3: plays last week, it's like they think he's a gunslinger,
- 45:40Speaker 3: you know, like they like got when you were in
- 45:43Speaker 3: a guy that just like lives in shotgun and they
- 45:45Speaker 3: just spread out the field and they just make you
- 45:47Speaker 3: just distribute the ball from there like those are like
- 45:50Speaker 3: what like Joe Burrow and Josh Allen and Herbert like
- 45:54Speaker 3: that's what those guys did see.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I don't think that they want him to do that.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I think what Mac isn't doing is getting the ball
- 46:00Speaker 1: out on time, trusting his receivers and throwing guys open
- 46:04Speaker 1: and understanding what NFL Open is compared to Alabama. I know,
- 46:08Speaker 1: I know we're three years away from it, but you know, uh,
- 46:11Speaker 1: I agree more with you friend, you know, like just
- 46:14Speaker 1: get rid of the ball on time at the top
- 46:16Speaker 1: of the break, not you know, not waiting for this guy.
- 46:19Speaker 3: I agree with him too, but I don't know if
- 46:21Speaker 3: he can do it consistently.
- 46:23Speaker 4: So I don't think he can. But that's that's not
- 46:26Speaker 4: that's what we were told he could.
- 46:29Speaker 1: Like we were told he's an accurate passer who sees
- 46:31Speaker 1: the field. You know, his his superpower is is his brain.
- 46:37Speaker 4: And how many scouting reports if you've heard over the
- 46:39Speaker 4: years that didn't turn out.
- 46:40Speaker 1: To be accurate, right?
- 46:41Speaker 4: No, I know, I know we were told that Tom
- 46:43Speaker 4: Brady was a week on quarterback from the day he stopped.
- 46:45Speaker 4: I don't feel that was false.
- 46:46Speaker 1: No, no, and it could be bad intelligence. But I'm like,
- 46:50Speaker 1: you just got to keep telling him to do it,
- 46:53Speaker 1: because I'd rather have him fail that way than how
- 46:55Speaker 1: he failed on Sunday.
- 46:57Speaker 4: You know, I don't again, he said this yesterday. I
- 46:59Speaker 4: don't look at Sunday as indicative of what we've seen.
- 47:02Speaker 4: For whatever the thirty whatever start, how many stars has
- 47:05Speaker 4: he married down thirty six starts? I didn't Sunday was
- 47:11Speaker 4: exceptionally bad for him. I don't think that's indicative of
- 47:15Speaker 4: what he's done. But I do think sort of, you know,
- 47:18Speaker 4: one of the things he said today, even that I
- 47:20Speaker 4: caught about, you know, his eyes making sure that his
- 47:24Speaker 4: eyes were in the right place. I saw that on Sunday.
- 47:27Speaker 4: I thought he was paying more attention to the rush
- 47:29Speaker 4: than he was looking. And that's why on a fourth
- 47:32Speaker 4: down play, he has DeVante Parker on a shallow cross
- 47:35Speaker 4: across the middle, open enough and he doesn't get him. Now,
- 47:39Speaker 4: Dak Prescott did the same thing on a fourth down. Now,
- 47:42Speaker 4: the difference was they were up like thirty one to
- 47:44Speaker 4: three at the time, and he missed Ferguson wide open
- 47:47Speaker 4: on a fourth down and ended up getting sacked. Sometimes
- 47:50Speaker 4: you know, quarterbacks miss it because they're watching their rush
- 47:53Speaker 4: or whatever. The play action thing, isn't that something that
- 47:59Speaker 4: if wanted to be under center more, they could be
- 48:02Speaker 4: under center. And why, Like I get the impression. That's
- 48:04Speaker 4: why I'm more with you, Fred, Like, I think they're
- 48:07Speaker 4: in shotgun as much as they are because that's what
- 48:09Speaker 4: he wants.
- 48:09Speaker 1: He feels more comfortable.
- 48:10Speaker 4: I think he feels more comfortable. I agree, because I
- 48:13Speaker 4: don't think he I don't think he's good enough. I mean,
- 48:14Speaker 4: but I don't think he's good enough under center either.
- 48:16Speaker 3: They're averaging eight yards attempt off play action. Now some
- 48:20Speaker 3: of that skewed by Pharaoh Brown's touchdown, we don't have
- 48:22Speaker 3: some of it. Have a small stay up here.
- 48:24Speaker 4: Tell me that they have a tiny percentage of plays
- 48:26Speaker 4: you know, under center, and one of them was a
- 48:28Speaker 4: sixty yard touchdown.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Yeah, but it just going back to all three years
- 48:33Speaker 3: though he's been a pretty productive play action passer, like
- 48:36Speaker 3: even you know, twenty one was especially good. But like
- 48:40Speaker 3: like all three years, when they call play action, he's
- 48:42Speaker 3: better than you know, average at that. And I think
- 48:46Speaker 3: that when they use some of these tricks of the
- 48:49Speaker 3: trade that offensive coordinators use, like play action, you know,
- 48:53Speaker 3: like screens, like motion, like RPO, like it helps him
- 48:58Speaker 3: just make throws. Like I don't think it to reads
- 49:00Speaker 3: thing necessarily with him. Sometimes I think it's he doesn't
- 49:04Speaker 3: have the ability to sit back there and go through
- 49:07Speaker 3: sideline to sideline and be able to make a throw,
- 49:10Speaker 3: you know, just to any open receiver, Like you have
- 49:12Speaker 3: to really be calculated and where what areas of the
- 49:16Speaker 3: field he's attacking, Like when he's throwing, his rhythm is
- 49:19Speaker 3: timing like all that type of stuff, Because if he's
- 49:22Speaker 3: a second late to a sideline throw, it's a pick six. Yeah,
- 49:25Speaker 3: so you just you can't. You have to be able
- 49:27Speaker 3: to calculate all those things into the play calling.
- 49:30Speaker 5: What if he's five seconds late from across the field,
- 49:33Speaker 5: stop it.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Jackson's in Alabama? Heye, Jackson, Hey, hey FD.
- 49:41Speaker 12: I just wanted to like just sit here and ponder
- 49:43Speaker 12: on this first second, is there any way that we
- 49:45Speaker 12: get a top five pick that we're not going to
- 49:48Speaker 12: trade it? And also I was want to put this
- 49:51Speaker 12: in and say, Evan, you're giving a very big Mike
- 49:54Speaker 12: McDaniel's vibes right now, and I think that maybe.
- 49:57Speaker 1: You need to be in line for the all, you're
- 50:02Speaker 1: not the first person who said that.
- 50:05Speaker 3: Mc daniels might hear all right, thanks Jackson.
- 50:10Speaker 1: I know he might be a little bit joking. But
- 50:12Speaker 1: top five pick, I hope they don't trade it.
- 50:15Speaker 4: Well, here's the thing. Who would be willing to trade
- 50:18Speaker 4: a top five pick a team that has a quarter
- 50:21Speaker 4: Bill Belichick may have a top five pick. I don't
- 50:24Speaker 4: think Bill Belicher is going.
- 50:25Speaker 3: To be a position to be he would love to
- 50:27Speaker 3: trade that pick.
- 50:28Speaker 4: I don't. I mean, I'm sorry, but if they're picking
- 50:31Speaker 4: in the top five, I said, I was the only
- 50:33Speaker 4: one yesterday that said, I think he'll be back. But
- 50:36Speaker 4: if they're picking in the top five, I think you
- 50:38Speaker 4: guys are right and I'll be wrong. I don't think
- 50:40Speaker 4: he'll be back. You guys all suggested that if it
- 50:42Speaker 4: continues like this that he'll be gone yesterday, and I
- 50:46Speaker 4: was the only one that said, I don't see it.
- 50:47Speaker 4: But if it's that bad, you're talking three four wins, Yeah,
- 50:51Speaker 4: it's gonna be hard with the left five maybe the.
- 50:53Speaker 5: Left tackle need is what scares me there because it's
- 50:55Speaker 5: like I get it.
- 50:56Speaker 6: I mean, it's the same thing we said last year,
- 50:58Speaker 6: Like I get it, but you'd love to have a
- 51:01Speaker 6: guy who moves to the needle on offense.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Brian's in Detroit.
- 51:06Speaker 13: Yeah, hey, guys, longtime listener. I live in Detroit, season
- 51:11Speaker 13: ticket over the Lions, and I just wanted to let
- 51:14Speaker 13: you guys know a little bit about Ben Johnson having
- 51:16Speaker 13: brought him up yesterday, soone else brought him up today.
- 51:19Speaker 13: Everybody keeps possibles to Bill Belichick. But man, I was
- 51:23Speaker 13: at training camp this year Ben Johnson. Man, there was
- 51:26Speaker 13: this old lady. I was walking in there, and he
- 51:29Speaker 13: stepped right in front of her and said, you're not
- 51:30Speaker 13: allowed to come in here. My kids go to the
- 51:33Speaker 13: same school as Ben Johnson's kids. At the school play,
- 51:36Speaker 13: Ben Jenson got up right in front and said, everyone
- 51:39Speaker 13: watched my child. He's just all about me guy, And
- 51:43Speaker 13: if you watch real closely, it's all Jared goffin this offense.
- 51:47Speaker 13: Jared Goff is teaching Ben Johnson how to call these plays. Yes,
- 51:51Speaker 13: everything that he got from Sean McVay. This might be
- 51:54Speaker 13: one of the Ben Johnson is not the guy that
- 51:56Speaker 13: you guys want to start targeting to replace Bill Belichick.
- 51:59Speaker 4: Okay, well, the rest of the league disagrees with you.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 52:02Speaker 4: That was a wild call that was that was weird,
- 52:05Speaker 4: Like I care about a school play?
- 52:07Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I don't know what.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Like if we're gonna go by personalities, we have the
- 52:11Speaker 4: greatest coaches ever played. We're gonna go by personalities, now,
- 52:14Speaker 4: I please. The greatest coach's ever been in the league
- 52:17Speaker 4: is the Patriots coach for the last twenty five years.
- 52:21Speaker 4: A personality is not necessarily high on his list.
- 52:23Speaker 1: I want to hear more. I want to hear like,
- 52:26Speaker 1: I'll have to talk to Hardy see what he has
- 52:28Speaker 1: to say. Let's go to Eric at amherstburg Ville.
- 52:34Speaker 8: He to how's your day going.
- 52:36Speaker 14: I hope it's going good.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Oh, you've been listening, you know, fair enough?
- 52:41Speaker 15: So, Fred, I disagree with you. Our wide receivers, as
- 52:45Speaker 15: a Gready puts it, our sank and dunk, we do
- 52:50Speaker 15: not have anyone who is even close to Sean Wayne's
- 52:53Speaker 15: level on the offensive side.
- 52:55Speaker 4: When it comes to my opinion, Oh, come on, I
- 52:58Speaker 4: think it's comparable. I think that's an old statement, but
- 53:00Speaker 4: I think that you're dealing with secondary guys that wouldn't
- 53:03Speaker 4: be frontline players on other teams, on both on both sides.
- 53:07Speaker 3: I think we only care about it the receivers that
- 53:09Speaker 3: they have bodies at receiver.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Whether you have bodies that in the secondary they're not
- 53:14Speaker 4: good ones, but their bodies you have Miles Brian, Jalen Mills,
- 53:18Speaker 4: and Sean Wade, I mean dead bodies just like Juju Smith,
- 53:21Speaker 4: Schuster and taekwand Wolton, and.
- 53:23Speaker 3: But you have you go over around, go five or
- 53:24Speaker 3: six deep at receiver of just receivers on the team
- 53:28Speaker 3: that are have played in an NFL game before, Like
- 53:31Speaker 3: you only go three deep at corner.
- 53:35Speaker 1: It's a much more dire situation right now at corner.
- 53:38Speaker 4: Right now, I think you have a much more dire situation.
- 53:40Speaker 4: On offense in general, you can't score, you can't What
- 53:42Speaker 4: are you going to do to help that? Pall right now?
- 53:45Speaker 4: Trade for somebody like you just did on defense.
- 53:48Speaker 1: You're talking about a big trade.
- 53:49Speaker 4: No, not a big trade, a trade like this, a
- 53:52Speaker 4: nothing trade to get an NFL player to use your example.
- 53:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well you just said that he's not any good J. C. Jackson.
- 53:59Speaker 4: I don't think he is, but obviously the rest of
- 54:01Speaker 4: the available Okay, so then go and make a trade
- 54:04Speaker 4: for Chase Claypool.
- 54:06Speaker 1: You know, but you don't think he's gonna make, you know,
- 54:08Speaker 1: move the needles.
- 54:09Speaker 4: I don't, But you guys, do you guys like these
- 54:11Speaker 4: guys that no one else I don't. I don't think
- 54:13Speaker 4: Chase Chase Claypool right now the situation, they don't have
- 54:17Speaker 4: anybody on offense to make it play.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I think.
- 54:20Speaker 4: And the one guy that I think they might have,
- 54:22Speaker 4: he won't play for whatever reason.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Who you talking about Douglas?
- 54:28Speaker 15: Yeah, Douglas is the only guy who can make a
- 54:29Speaker 15: play bill for some reason, think Juju character. The slow
- 54:33Speaker 15: guys are gonna help mac. As Evan said earlier, Matt
- 54:38Speaker 15: can't make certain throws and these guys are not getting
- 54:40Speaker 15: to the spots quick enough to allow him to get
- 54:42Speaker 15: make these throws. Defense has been ruled out of the NFL.
- 54:46Speaker 15: We need to get more explosive on offense. Jac Jackson, Yeah, great,
- 54:49Speaker 15: you've traded for him. This would have been a great
- 54:52Speaker 15: trade in January so that.
- 54:53Speaker 8: We didn't need to take gonzalas who the defense without him,
- 54:57Speaker 8: you see what I mean?
- 55:01Speaker 16: And you could have taken a guy like.
- 55:05Speaker 15: Jsm Zy, someone who could have given you life with
- 55:08Speaker 15: a guy like Douglas.
- 55:09Speaker 4: Later, Gonzales has already had three games better than anything
- 55:12Speaker 4: Jac Jackson ever did.
- 55:13Speaker 2: As a Patriot.
- 55:14Speaker 3: That's pretty good.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, I mean that's how that's like, this is
- 55:19Speaker 4: what I'm talking about. Like, just go by the name
- 55:22Speaker 4: and the reputation and the stats and watch the game.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Like J. C.
- 55:27Speaker 4: Jackson, especially against the kind of teams that the Patriots
- 55:30Speaker 4: have played in the first month, has never been able
- 55:33Speaker 4: to perform the way Gonzales did. Go back to that
- 55:35Speaker 4: playoff game, the forty seven to seventeen game.
- 55:38Speaker 1: JA C.
- 55:38Speaker 4: Jackson was your number one quarter that night. How did
- 55:41Speaker 4: Digs do?
- 55:42Speaker 1: Now?
- 55:42Speaker 4: I know that Gonzales never got a chance to go
- 55:44Speaker 4: against Digs specifically, but he went against, as Mike likes
- 55:48Speaker 4: to say, digs adjacent kind of receivers throughout the first
- 55:52Speaker 4: month and didn't look like.
- 55:53Speaker 5: That didn't not Wasn't there something else going on with
- 55:55Speaker 5: jac Jackson in that game? Didn't he tap out?
- 55:58Speaker 4: The whole team tapped out in the second half? And well,
- 56:01Speaker 4: that'll be nice be one of my favorite Patriots of
- 56:05Speaker 4: all time.
- 56:05Speaker 1: John's in Washington, d C. What's up, John?
- 56:09Speaker 16: Hey, how's it going guys?
- 56:10Speaker 1: Okay?
- 56:12Speaker 16: You know, just you know, we're sort of steering here,
- 56:15Speaker 16: and I think we were sort of going around. But
- 56:17Speaker 16: you know, I think Paul's right. You know, we do
- 56:20Speaker 16: need more talent on offense. I don't know where you
- 56:22Speaker 16: get it. There's I've been wondering. You know, I look
- 56:28Speaker 16: back at the drafts and the last two drafts, and
- 56:30Speaker 16: I just think, you know, corner the corner depth was
- 56:33Speaker 16: something I was screaming for in my uh thing beyond Gonzales. Obviously,
- 56:39Speaker 16: I was talking about like a fourth round pick instead
- 56:41Speaker 16: of City So or somebody like that. And and I
- 56:45Speaker 16: just look at people that fell in that fourth round,
- 56:47Speaker 16: or like Chariq Willans who fell after jackne instead of
- 56:49Speaker 16: Jack Jones the year before, and I'm like, yeah, because
- 56:52Speaker 16: I was worried. This is my nightmare of Sean Wade
- 56:55Speaker 16: and Myles Bryant being your primary corners.
- 56:59Speaker 4: And that's that's a fair second guest. And we all
- 57:01Speaker 4: talked about like heading into the year in terms of depth,
- 57:04Speaker 4: that was a spot that we were all worried about.
- 57:05Speaker 4: And then unfortunately you've seen it unfold right before our eyes.
- 57:09Speaker 3: Yeah, but at the same time, like they had their
- 57:11Speaker 3: top four corners got hurt, like the whole room got
- 57:14Speaker 3: wiped out. But we're not talking like, but.
- 57:17Speaker 16: I question whether I questioned how good Jack Jones and
- 57:21Speaker 16: Marcus Jones are correctly.
- 57:22Speaker 4: I thought it was a house of cards. That position
- 57:24Speaker 4: I thought was a house of cards.
- 57:25Speaker 3: So that's fair.
- 57:26Speaker 4: I can't be a fraud about it. He's right. This
- 57:28Speaker 4: is some of the things that I John is the
- 57:32Speaker 4: corner me. He's called me out that.
- 57:34Speaker 16: Me the most about next year. He's not just the
- 57:38Speaker 16: offense in general, not just the offensive line. I look
- 57:41Speaker 16: at the defensive line, I look at the pass rushers,
- 57:43Speaker 16: I look at the edge betters, and I'm like, God,
- 57:46Speaker 16: there's really not hot. They need help everywhere on this roster.
- 57:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I think there they were pretty
- 57:55Speaker 3: well stocked coming into the year on defense. They they
- 57:58Speaker 3: spent every resource they positively could to be well stocked
- 58:01Speaker 3: on defense. I mean, they brought back every starter besides
- 58:04Speaker 3: Devin mccordy, who retired. They drafted three guys at the
- 58:07Speaker 3: top of the draft. On defense, you you prepare to
- 58:11Speaker 3: lose players at every position. Any team that has their
- 58:15Speaker 3: top four cornerbacks get wiped out at by injury all
- 58:18Speaker 3: at once isn't going to be in the day.
- 58:20Speaker 4: But I would feel the same if they just lost
- 58:21Speaker 4: Gonzales or if they just lost Jones, like I thought
- 58:24Speaker 4: they it was a house of cards without that, Like
- 58:26Speaker 4: I didn't have much. You know, what I think of
- 58:28Speaker 4: Jack Jones kind of similar to jac Jackson. That's what
- 58:31Speaker 4: I think of Jack Jones, Gonzales. Gonzales played at a
- 58:36Speaker 4: high level, and I think Jonathan Jones is a good,
- 58:39Speaker 4: solid NFL corner. So if you lose one of those
- 58:43Speaker 4: two guys, I think you you only had one one
- 58:46Speaker 4: solid option losing both of them.
- 58:48Speaker 6: I mean about what happened if we lose jut On,
- 58:51Speaker 6: you know, that was I mean, I said that exact line.
- 58:54Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think they did.
- 58:55Speaker 4: You know, we'll see what happened to Ken White Spot.
- 58:57Speaker 4: That was a house of cards and you're going to
- 58:59Speaker 4: see that.
- 59:00Speaker 6: And I said, you know, and I think when people
- 59:01Speaker 6: came at me being negative at the end of the
- 59:03Speaker 6: training camp was just like you know, Devon Godshaw, Lawrence, Guy,
- 59:07Speaker 6: Dietrich Wise, We've seen these guys roll out there for
- 59:09Speaker 6: the last.
- 59:10Speaker 5: Three years, like is it going to be different this year?
- 59:11Speaker 5: And it's kind of been the same.
- 59:13Speaker 4: You know.
- 59:13Speaker 6: It's it's they can't really get off the field against
- 59:16Speaker 6: the good offenses. I don't know, we'll see how the
- 59:18Speaker 6: rest of that plays out, but I agree with the
- 59:19Speaker 6: general sentiment. I mean, and I'm probably higher on the
- 59:21Speaker 6: cornerback depth than Paul is, certainly, but I think up
- 59:25Speaker 6: front you've got some major questions coming up this year
- 59:27Speaker 6: just due to age and injuries.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Web Radio at Patriots dot com is the email addressed
- 59:33Speaker 1: Joel and san Antonio. As always, thank you for all
- 59:35Speaker 1: you do. It's always good time to listen to the
- 59:38Speaker 1: world's original podcast, even when we're down. Just wanted to
- 59:41Speaker 1: share some quick thoughts. So we're bringing j C. Jackson
- 59:44Speaker 1: back cool. We need to help right now and he
- 59:46Speaker 1: can just suit it up play right away. However, I'm
- 59:49Speaker 1: just not a fan of BB recycling old players that
- 59:52Speaker 1: used to play for us, for example van Ney Collins.
- 59:55Speaker 1: However many times that happened Trey Flowers. Now JC, Who's next,
- 59:58Speaker 1: Chandler Jones? Can we just for once outside, Can we
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: just for once look outside our tree branches for a
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: different type of spark. I'm just simply not sure if
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: these moves are in the best interest of the team. Again,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: j C fills an immediate need right away, but in
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: the bigger picture and correct me if I'm wrong. These
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: moves have not really worked out that well, that's all
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I got.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Well, I think you're you, he answered his own question,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: like taking a player from outside the organ, outside the tree,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: as he puts it. Now, you've got to get that
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: player up to speed, and you gotta get it. You know,
- 1:00:34Speaker 3: you gotta get him on the program.
- 1:00:36Speaker 17: J C.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Jackson, You're You're in the middle of the season, so
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: you're not You're not in a place in OTA's or
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: training camp where you have all this runway to get
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: him up and running. So jac Jackson comes back, already
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: knows the playbook, already knows the system, and he can
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: he could probably play on Sunday in this game against
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: the Saints. Have you trained for somebody that's never played
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: better for you know, it's a totally different.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: But I think what the email is saying is kind
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: of how I feel and that I don't really care
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: like this week and next week. Yeah great, So I
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: got the guy that I can get up to speed fast.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: If I'm going to acquire a player at this point
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: and I know they didn't give up anything for him,
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: I get it. But if I'm going to bring out
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: the players in I want players that I conceivably have
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: to be part of my future. They already told me
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: I don't want this guy. They don't want them, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: now they're just bringing them back because of this. Was
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: seeing it actually on TV right now on NFL Network,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: you know, the Christian Gonzales injury, you know, saying Torn
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Labraham expected to miss the rest of the season. So yeah,
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: I mean you probably can't. You know, beggars can't be choosers.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: They needed somebody right now when jac Jackson happened to
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: be available. So that's that's the move. But I'm not
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: excited about it for the reason the emailer said. I
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: would be more excited if it was like some other
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: corner who might have some hope of being something. I
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: haven't been seen it with, right, And it's probably the
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: same either way, because you're probably not getting a guy
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: that is going to be good enough to be something
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: in the future. But yeah, maybe that that sort of
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: you know, that lack of knowing for sure would be better.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Take Shawn and New Milford. I woke up to a
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: text saying, look online, Bill just made a big trade.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: My imagination started running, is it Judy or maybe it's
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: justin Jefferson opens Twitter. All I can do here last
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: defa me to think Bill would actually trade for top
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: tier wide receiver, but Jac is cool.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: I guess I just think it makes you competitive again
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: on defense, Like it kind of just yeah, it keeps
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: you afloat on that side of the ball. I I'm
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: not necessarily as far off on J. C. Jacks like
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: I'm with Paul in terms of like what he is
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: as a player, Like he's you know, he is what
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: he is. But I just think that it puts you
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: in a spot where you can just you can be
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: competitive again on that side of the ball. I don't
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: think that they would be super competitive without Judon and
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: Gonzalez if they just rolled out the group that they have.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: All right, Paul's foods here. We got a big show
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: within a show halftime. As you know, one of the
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: Patriots greats died over the weekend, Russ Francis all world

- 1:03:20Speaker 1: So we'll play that during the break and when we

- 1:04:13Speaker 3: What's up, everybody?
- 1:04:14Speaker 7: Check out this clip from our Paths from the Past
- 1:04:16Speaker 7: episode featuring Russ Francis as.
- 1:04:19Speaker 19: A twenty something in year old kid. You mentioned ABC
- 1:04:22Speaker 19: Superstars and there's probably people.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Listening to this have no idea what that is.
- 1:04:25Speaker 19: And ABC back in the day would gather the best
- 1:04:29Speaker 19: athletes from respective sports Reggie Jackson and baseball Lynn swan
- 1:04:33Speaker 19: and football yourself in football and you compete against each
- 1:04:36Speaker 19: other and Tocaflian type items. Here's a twenty something in
- 1:04:40Speaker 19: year old kid who's being called all world tight end
- 1:04:43Speaker 19: by Howard Kosel, who's being invited to go on ABC's Superstars.
- 1:04:48Speaker 19: Is your mind blown a little bit by this who's
- 1:04:51Speaker 19: a guy who's not a football player, and you know
- 1:04:54Speaker 19: it comes from a simpler life, maybe in Oregon, and
- 1:04:56Speaker 19: a little bit wid that all of this notoriety is
- 1:04:59Speaker 19: coming away.
- 1:05:00Speaker 17: Well, I didn't watch much TV growing up, certainly sports,
- 1:05:04Speaker 17: certainly never football because that was never live until after
- 1:05:08Speaker 17: I started playing. But Howard Cosell coined the all world
- 1:05:15Speaker 17: phrase my rookie year when I caught it like a
- 1:05:17Speaker 17: forty yard past Miami on a Monday night game. Well,
- 1:05:21Speaker 17: I've been catching I think I averaged over eighteen yards
- 1:05:23Speaker 17: as a rookie. And what he didn't know, and I
- 1:05:27Speaker 17: told his wife when they asked me to speak of
- 1:05:30Speaker 17: his services after he'd passed that the only reason I
- 1:05:35Speaker 17: didn't tell Howard why I was catching such long passes
- 1:05:40Speaker 17: is because I called him up when he started calling
- 1:05:43Speaker 17: me all world. Because my teammates started trying to beat
- 1:05:45Speaker 17: me up in practice and roll me over, need me
- 1:05:47Speaker 17: in the ribs and everything else. The guy's on the
- 1:05:49Speaker 17: field playing against saying all world.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: My ass right, that can be.
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: It's a blessing and they're coming.
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: After me, right.
- 1:05:57Speaker 17: So I said, mister Cossell, I'm really honored if you could,
- 1:06:00Speaker 17: because I finally got him after like four phone calls.
- 1:06:02Speaker 17: And this is before I started working for ABC my
- 1:06:05Speaker 17: rookie year. Here's a rookie calling Howard Cosell. I still
- 1:06:09Speaker 17: didn't really understand the importance of all these people. I'd
- 1:06:12Speaker 17: never heard of him before. So you asked me earlier
- 1:06:15Speaker 17: about how to deal with that, but I didn't know
- 1:06:16Speaker 17: any better, so I just lived my life. I said,
- 1:06:19Speaker 17: mister Cosell, thank you for taking my call. I was
- 1:06:21Speaker 17: such an honor for you to even mention my name
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: on a Monday night game. I said, I have a big,
- 1:06:26Speaker 17: big favor to ask of you, and he says number
- 1:06:30Speaker 17: eighty one. He said, oh world, he said, what can
- 1:06:33Speaker 17: I do for you today? Oh god, I'm just stumbling
- 1:06:39Speaker 17: and they'll go ahead anything eighty one.
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: Come on, it's so good to hear.
- 1:06:45Speaker 17: Thank you for calling. I'm sorry I missed your other calls.
- 1:06:48Speaker 17: I've been busy with Frank and the gift and everything
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: and this and that and on and on. I said,
- 1:06:54Speaker 17: mister Cossell, could you please stop calling me all world.
- 1:06:56Speaker 17: They're killing me out there, my teammates and the other guys.
- 1:07:02Speaker 17: Do you notice any silence right now? There was silence,
- 1:07:08Speaker 17: and all of a sudden that booming voice number eighty one.
- 1:07:14Speaker 17: Listen up and listen close, get tough or get out click,
- 1:07:22Speaker 17: So missus Cosell at his service. They asked me, Billy, Crystal,
- 1:07:27Speaker 17: myself and Frank the Ford so to speak at it
- 1:07:32Speaker 17: because we had become baby sat their grandchildren, Justin and Jared,
- 1:07:37Speaker 17: who I think we're in ESPN now at the pools,
- 1:07:40Speaker 17: when we played in Miami and everything else. Got to
- 1:07:43Speaker 17: know him pretty well. Heather, their mother sweek out. Emmy
- 1:07:46Speaker 17: was just a sweetheart, I can do do everything kind
- 1:07:53Speaker 17: of wife and mother. I said, I got to tell
- 1:07:56Speaker 17: you the story, I said. Never got a chance to
- 1:07:57Speaker 17: tell the story to Howard because I was afraid. And
- 1:08:00Speaker 17: she goes, what I said, you know that all world
- 1:08:04Speaker 17: things that he he kept calling. She goes, oh, he
- 1:08:08Speaker 17: just thought you were a great player. And she's given
- 1:08:10Speaker 17: me the same thing. And I said, well, the truth
- 1:08:13Speaker 17: of the matter is I didn't know how to read
- 1:08:14Speaker 17: coverages or run past prays.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: So here's the truth.
- 1:08:16Speaker 17: I'm pouring it out. I didn't want to do this,
- 1:08:19Speaker 17: especially it's at his services, I said, but I kind
- 1:08:22Speaker 17: of felt like, well, Howard's here, we're all here together, right,
- 1:08:25Speaker 17: So but I called him up and asked him to
- 1:08:28Speaker 17: not call me all world, and he slammed me down
- 1:08:30Speaker 17: and said, get tough for get out. So I wasn't
- 1:08:31Speaker 17: gonna tell him it's because Steve just told me to
- 1:08:34Speaker 17: go straight. I didn't know how to run. It wasn't
- 1:08:36Speaker 17: because I was a great player. It's because I had speed,
- 1:08:41Speaker 17: Steve had an arm. We had Randy Vatah, Stanley Morgan.
- 1:08:48Speaker 17: You know, a bunch of greatsus Steve Burke, great receiver
- 1:08:51Speaker 17: from Arkansas, and this kid who didn't know anything about football.
- 1:08:56Speaker 17: So I'm looking good because of all of them, and
- 1:08:58Speaker 17: a great offensive line. So you know, once Shelby, Jordan
- 1:09:03Speaker 17: and all the other guys got together that nineteen seventy
- 1:09:06Speaker 17: eight team you're talking about, we ran over people.
- 1:09:09Speaker 19: Held the rushing record until just a couple of years
- 1:09:11Speaker 19: ago when the Ravens that recond stood for forty something
- 1:09:14Speaker 19: years ago.
- 1:09:15Speaker 17: Something. We're very, very proud of it. And the one
- 1:09:17Speaker 17: thing that the Craft family, by the way, on a
- 1:09:20Speaker 17: couple of these alumni weekends when we come in for games,
- 1:09:23Speaker 17: had made a real They've given us an opportunity to
- 1:09:30Speaker 17: highlight some of the film when they show it to
- 1:09:32Speaker 17: the fans, so they're up in the club boxes and
- 1:09:33Speaker 17: everything else. Sometimes on the screen of those teams with
- 1:09:36Speaker 17: John Hannah coming around and Sam Cunningham, he was always
- 1:09:41Speaker 17: fast enough and good enough for passes and everything else.
- 1:09:44Speaker 17: When you send him out there first two hundred and
- 1:09:45Speaker 17: forty five pounds he ran a four or five forty.
- 1:09:49Speaker 17: He just blow through people. There goes John, there goes
- 1:09:52Speaker 17: I'm looking for people to block.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I don't have to.
- 1:09:54Speaker 19: I mentioned Gronkowski. Do you watch Do you look at
- 1:09:57Speaker 19: a guy like Gronk who played for the team that
- 1:09:59Speaker 19: you used to play and I.
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: Mean Marvel, bigger kid than you are.
- 1:10:04Speaker 19: I don't know if he was faster than you were
- 1:10:06Speaker 19: at the time, different strengths, but a guy who you
- 1:10:09Speaker 19: could put on the line and he'd knock a guy
- 1:10:11Speaker 19: fifteen yards past a true tight end, and yes, you
- 1:10:14Speaker 19: could send him up the seam and he could run
- 1:10:16Speaker 19: by linebackers. What did you think of him when you
- 1:10:19Speaker 19: watched him play Russ.
- 1:10:20Speaker 17: Well, first of all, you said the one thing that
- 1:10:22Speaker 17: separates him, and I believe me, from most tight ends.
- 1:10:27Speaker 17: You said, a complete tight end that would block and
- 1:10:30Speaker 17: have the speed to get downfield and have the hands.
- 1:10:33Speaker 17: He's got incredible a sense for the balls. Your head
- 1:10:37Speaker 17: comes around right here and there's a little flash of
- 1:10:39Speaker 17: brown and he gets.
- 1:10:40Speaker 19: Catch radius very high, like you could put the ball
- 1:10:43Speaker 19: almost any plays with him.
- 1:10:44Speaker 17: Yeah, So one thing I would say about Rob Gronkowski
- 1:10:50Speaker 17: is there isn't anything you can't do on a football
- 1:10:53Speaker 17: field that he decides to do. And that's the goal
- 1:10:56Speaker 17: of every tight end. And I work with some young
- 1:10:59Speaker 17: tight ends from time time to want to get a
- 1:11:01Speaker 17: college scholarship for high school or a couple of young
- 1:11:04Speaker 17: pro guys. Not in the coaching standpoint, but just technique
- 1:11:09Speaker 17: because I had to learn from from the very very beginning.
- 1:11:14Speaker 17: I won't give you away one of my secrets I
- 1:11:16Speaker 17: learned that helps tight ends improve quicker. But to look
- 1:11:18Speaker 17: at the Gronkowski we're probably about the same speed I
- 1:11:21Speaker 17: was four or five forty. I think that's probably what
- 1:11:23Speaker 17: Rob runs four or five four six. We're both in
- 1:11:26Speaker 17: that range.
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: I waited.
- 1:11:27Speaker 17: I played about they say it comes out in my card.
- 1:11:30Speaker 17: That was two forty. I played a two fifty five.
- 1:11:33Speaker 17: Now when I got here, I was about two forty five.
- 1:11:35Speaker 17: I quickly became two fifty by hitting the sled. I
- 1:11:38Speaker 17: never lifted weights. They said you need to lift weights,
- 1:11:40Speaker 17: put on more weight. No, the muscle becomes stronger than
- 1:11:42Speaker 17: the tendon and it rips the tendon and the muscles
- 1:11:44Speaker 17: supposed to give first.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: So I'm not doing any of that.
- 1:11:47Speaker 17: So I'm going to hit the sled instead, so that
- 1:11:50Speaker 17: put on weight. So I ended up weighing about two
- 1:11:52Speaker 17: hundred and fifty five pounds. If I hadn't done more
- 1:11:55Speaker 17: running and more stairs, I probably would have gone to
- 1:11:57Speaker 17: you know, sixty five to seventy, because you do build
- 1:11:59Speaker 17: a muscle hitting those sleds. But I didn't want to
- 1:12:02Speaker 17: compromise my speed, so I stopped at two hundred and
- 1:12:05Speaker 17: fifty two hundred and fifty five pounds. Rob was probably
- 1:12:08Speaker 17: he's a about the same heights. I'm probably not as
- 1:12:11Speaker 17: tall as I was when I started, but uh, nor
- 1:12:15Speaker 17: will he be. He's about six six sixty seven six
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: five six six. Yeah, just a big guy all around.
- 1:12:23Speaker 17: And when he hits, he explodes. That's his number one
- 1:12:26Speaker 17: quality in the running game. And he has the want
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: to to take that guy fifteen yards. He's not just
- 1:12:31Speaker 17: going to hit him and the ball. The guy goes
- 1:12:33Speaker 17: by and he just lets him go. He's gonna bury him.
- 1:12:36Speaker 17: And when he runs a route, he's so fluid for
- 1:12:40Speaker 17: a big guy, he's like a ballerina out there.
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:12:42Speaker 17: Lin Swan used to take ballet lessons so that he
- 1:12:44Speaker 17: could be quicker. And what a gifted receiver he was.
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: I look at Rob Gronkowski and I marvel at what
- 1:12:51Speaker 17: he can do, and I can't wait till the next
- 1:12:53Speaker 17: play and the next play. Oh, now he's playing in
- 1:12:55Speaker 17: Tampa bayh Is Brady there too? Oh great to get
- 1:12:58Speaker 17: to watch both of them. Yeah, I watch him and
- 1:13:01Speaker 17: I do my Rob does a little bit early. Oh
- 1:13:04Speaker 17: that's a little bit late. You could have done this.
- 1:13:05Speaker 17: She could have done that, I'm sure if he did.
- 1:13:08Speaker 17: Look at any of my film in the days, Well,
- 1:13:11Speaker 17: you could have done better on that. Well, you could
- 1:13:13Speaker 17: have done better on that. One of the best of
- 1:13:15Speaker 17: all time, and he will go into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Score big with Bob's unbeatable savings on power reclining furniture,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: perfect for game day viewing. With features like hid and
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: drop down tables for snacks and BEVs, and convenient USB ports,
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: you'll never have to get up and miss a play,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: but only when you shop at Bob's, the official furniture
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: store of the New England Patriots. Paul, you could use
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: a motorized recliner, right, wouldn't you like that?
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: No?
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: No, no, one of the ones that lift up and
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: get you right out of the chair so you don't
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: have to.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: I didn't catch it at first, but thanks.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Right, Well, we were still working on your You're remote
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: you too, You got your fart remote too.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: If you could improve the remote, yeah, if you could improve.
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: That, I mean with you too, I don't just I
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: won't just reserve it for Freddie.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: If you could improve the remote, what feature would you
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: add or take away or whatever? You can talk it
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: because you're a remote professional. Yeah, I don't.
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: I think the remote is pretty good.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Okay, I think I think it's pretty good. Always use
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: the voice sometimes, but not not have to because I
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: don't know where the station is.
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I usually just go to the station I want,
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: But if I don't know, I'll just put the game
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: in that I'm you know, like I'll be watching like
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: a college football game on a Saturday, right and then
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: you know, like the scroll will confident it's like, you know,
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: thirty five thirty five fourth quarter and I'll be like, oh,
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: and I have no idea what channel that game is on,
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: and I'll just say, you know, Notre Dame Duke and
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: it just pops up. But otherwise I don't use voice.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: You don't do this, Paul. You you actually go to
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: each game and get it on your back so that
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: and you hook just boom.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: See that's what Paul wants. Do that, Okay, I know
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: exactly what Paul needs. He needs a way to get
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: to the streaming services quickly. One click of a button
- 1:15:09Speaker 6: and boom, we're there, like it's already kind of recording
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: it so you can just jump around.
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: Not so much getting to the streaming service is getting
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: away from Yes, what I think Paul really needs is
- 1:15:20Speaker 4: a bank of a new salary, is a bank of
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: monitors like NASA. Okay, so you could just have it
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: all up.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: He didn't have to worry about even changing the channel.
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: He just looks there.
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, some of my friends do do that stuff.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: I'm not multi TV. Yeah, I'm not big on the
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: multi TV thing.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: I have that call bookmakers. But anyway, that's true.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: I have I have that ability downstairs because I have,
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: uh there's like two separate rooms and there's a TV
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: on both sides because we had like a TV set
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: up when the kids were little. They used to watch
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: a lot of their you know, kids shows and stuff.
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: So I could do that.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: But I don't really see the need from what I'm hearing.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: The Sunday Ticket on YouTube is excellent really, like you
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: can do you can do four panels, like four games
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: at a time and everything. Like people are really liking
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: how YouTube is presenting a little more Sunday Ticket a
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: lot of control. You can get the you know, the
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: the it was next gen stats and all that.
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: I used to have when I was in California, and
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: you could you know, I mean you had just the
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: box with all eight games on it once. I mean
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: you have red Zone of course, but then that box
- 1:16:24Speaker 6: where you have every game going at once was always.
- 1:16:26Speaker 4: See I would never want to use that, but I like,
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: to Freddy's point, I like that feature I like the
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: idea that it's there if I ever want, if you.
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: Ever need it, especially like if it's an afternoon game
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: and there's like three kind of boring games going on, Yeah,
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: and it's like, well, red zone is going to be
- 1:16:39Speaker 6: kind of uselesscause they don't eve getting in the red zone.
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: You can at least put it up and kind of
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: see a red zone is useless.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: You have the four something's happening in one, you hit that,
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: it takes over the full screen and then okay, that
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: plays over, then you go back to four.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: You know, red zone might be one of my biggest
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: misses ever, and there are a lot of them, as
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: you whether you could have come up with it. You know,
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: when I first the idea, I was like, what who
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: would ever want to do that? Like just the scoring plays,
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: Like I totally didn't have the concept in my mind
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: as to what it was going to be the important stuff,
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: And I was like, why would anybody ever want to
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: do that? Like, if you're going to watch a game,
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: you gotta watch the sequence, not realizing they were actually
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: going to show you the actual game and not realizing
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: you know, like the play by play of a drive you.
- 1:17:26Speaker 6: Didn't realize your gift at that point, either to somehow
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: sequence all of them at once.
- 1:17:31Speaker 4: I realized I realized my gift at the time, but
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: I didn't realize that they were going to pull it
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: off just quite quite as effectively. And literally the first
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: bye week that we had, or the first Monday, a whatever,
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: the first opportunity that I had to watch Red Zone,
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: I put it on and I literally never changed. I
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: never touched the remoter gain. Oh my god, it was
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: I'm telling you, I was as wrong about Red Zone
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: as I was about Richard Seymour. Like that's how wrong
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: I couldn't. That's you know, that's definitely the wrongest.
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: That's a good senior quote right there.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: I just I enjoy watching them. I think you get
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: a chance this show.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: But that might be the wrongest.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: I think those one o'clock windows, when there's nine games
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: going at once, you effectively get a sense of how
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: all nine games unfolded.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: It's great, yeah you do, and then they're just a
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: blur in my memory. And he's like, he'll like, well
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: you remember in the first.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: Court, Like.
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: He gets mad at me because I can keep track
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: of the game while we're in the middle of a
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: post game.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Show web radio. Patriots dot com is the email address
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: Bubba and Connecticut. On the topic of cadence, I noticed
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: during the Cowboys game Mack was consistently waiting until one
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: second or less than the play clock to snap the ball.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Doesn't that allow the opponent's pass rushers to time their rush.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: It was consistent throughout the game. They seem to have
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: zero variability there. Seems like that could be something easy
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: to adjust and they need all the help they can get.
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: It sounds like they need a new cadence.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: I wonder though, like you know, when you're down on
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: the line defense, you know, and you're in your three
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: point stance or whatever, like how much you are paying
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: attention to the play clock?
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: Yeah, people do. I think it's more so like the
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: edge guys. Yeah, standing up you can see it. But
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: that that's very common around the league. A lot of
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: players get snapped in the last second of the play clock.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: I didn't, it didn't. I didn't clock anything.
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: It didn't see I mean, I remember the famous one
- 1:19:30Speaker 6: was that twenty fifteen game against.
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: Denver, right where they said that they could figure out Stork.
- 1:19:34Speaker 6: His like his zam von Miller was like jumping off
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: the snap like they had a beat on it already.
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: Well, that was a tell.
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: He had a tell.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: He had a tell with his I think his head.
- 1:19:42Speaker 5: He turned him was like a jerk to somebody right
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: before he snapped it.
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: Oh he hit somebody with their luggage with his luggage. Yeah,
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: he's bottom, bottom five, bottom five.
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: He's a great.
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: He's a great, like little foil for the show, because
- 1:19:54Speaker 6: it's like one random guy who was here a couple
- 1:19:56Speaker 6: of years, like nobody think.
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: It wasn't like he was stiff. He was a starting player.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Stork. Let's see Roberts just like has enough of let
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: them go. I'm teeing up the next email. It's like
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: a billion emails here, Bob in Wilmington, North Carolina. You
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: all have the Patriots going five hundred for the first
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: four weeks, and you're not far off with the team
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: going one to three. Not the worst, not the best.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: I listened to yesterday's show last night, and that was
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: the saddest episode in unfiltered history. Where's the support? Bill
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: is best at motivating replacements and always puts a competent
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: team on the field that will give the Patriots a
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: chance to win. This season is going to be seeing
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: all the diamonds in the rough that appear through the
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: next man up philosophy that Bill lives by. Remember that
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: Bill has forgotten more about football than the rest of
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: the coaches in the league combined. This year is not over.
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: The Patriots will still be a team to reckon with,
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: and we'll finish with a winning season. In Bill, I
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: trust question, which position do you see the first diamond
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: to appear?
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: Wow, we have to second round pick, diamond in the rough.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: There you go, Well, he doesn't play fiftieth overall pick
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: in a draft diamond in the rough.
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: He'll actually get to play to Mario Douglas.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: Russell and Arkis.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: I can accept that.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I sent this into the post game show. But
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Hardy doesn't read emails. It doesn't I kind of just
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: he really doesn't. I kind of I'm just over this season,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: and I'll just assume they'll lose and be surprised when
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: they don't. Any chance the offense gets torn down to
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: the studs in the off season and rebuilt player wise.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I don't mind the Jackson trade, mainly because we gave
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: up nothing but pocket lint. Also, sick Evans sounds like
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: Peter Schrager with his head stuck in a fish bowl.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: That's uh, that's excellent. I never thought of it, But
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: that he does sound like Peter Sreg.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Does sound like you hit puberty.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I hate Peter.
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: No, I know you're not a big fan.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: The the whole the kind of a contrast the last
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: two emails, but the whole, like everything is, is great.
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: First of all, I don't know.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: I didn't pick him to go five hundred in the
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: first four games. And if I only amended it to
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: one and three when Aaron Rodgers got hurt, I thought
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: they were going to start zero and four. Yeah, But
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: when Aaron Rodgers got hurt, I picked them to beat
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: the Jets. I don't know how you can look at
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: the way the game's played, especially the last one, and
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: just say, well, yeah, I expected it to be one
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: and three, so they're one and three.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: Here we go, right.
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: Not that I expected him to be much better offensively
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: this year, Right, That's what I expected, and I haven't
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: seen it. Never, not once would I would say, with
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: the lone exception of the last say, six minutes of
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: the second quarter of the opener against Philadelphia, I have
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: not seen any improvement on offen Yeah, short.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: Of the final score. That's been the biggest disappointment so
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: far is that we haven't seen the improvement in the
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: offense that we thought we would. Yeah.
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I would just say to the point of tearing
- 1:22:57Speaker 5: it down to the studs.
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: I mean, we talked about the offensive linemen that are
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: up for contract, the tight ends that are up for contract,
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: but unfortunately they have all their receivers are like under contract,
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: So like Juju Parker, all these guys are gonna come back.
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: That's like ideally you'd like the receivers to.
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: Kind of be phasing themselves out.
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: And you know you've got like last year, right, the
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: only one that.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Anybody likes Jeffrey in Canada, sustained success can make you blind.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: For eighteen years, Bill and Robert could do no wrong.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: They dominated the league. So I'm gonna ask a question
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: that I know you really can't answer, but you can
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: offer your opinion. Do you think Bill Belichick and Robert
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: Craft are self aware? Do they know that this is
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: one of the worst five teams in the league right now?
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: Does Bill know he can't effectively evaluate offensive players? Does
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: Robert know the team he owns is not even close
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: to competing in what is now the fourth year after
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: Brady leaving. The fans and media all seem to know
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: these things, But I seriously doubt either of these two
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: men know these things.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: I would strongly, strongly, strongly agree with that sentiment, especially
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: with Bill. I don't think Bill thinks that. I think
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: thinks they're like a turnover two away from being four
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: And oh yeah, I really do. I really think that
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: he thinks that. Robert. I think Robert's a little bit
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: more aware of what it is. And did he speak
- 1:24:13Speaker 4: yesterday at that event briefly right, which is to me
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: a departure of the way he has been speaking at
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: these events about how excited he is about the drafts
- 1:24:22Speaker 4: and how about you know, Mac, and you know I
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: don't like I don't like losing.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: I can tell you Robert Kraft knows that.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: I think Robert is very much aware of where the
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: team is right now and how the team is sort
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: of perceived right now.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Bill.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: I think I think Bill thinks they're like three plays
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: away from being the course.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: And whether or not you think it was good or
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: bad or whatever, but at the end of the last season,
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: and I think it was January early February the organization
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: sent that letter out to season ticket holders it's going
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: to be changes, And of course the changes was Bill
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: O'Brien and Adrian Clem and all that. But you know,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: I'm that that wasn't Bill's idea. No, No, that wasn't
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Bill's That's what I said. I think I think Robert
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: is aware of how the team is perceived. I'm not
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: sure Bill is. I'm not sure Bill agrees with yea.
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Bill is more set in.
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: I don't think Bill agrees with the perceptions.
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: A bigger question, though, do you think a coach needs
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: to be in season?
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I mean is that they shouldn't be listening.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: They should know, but they should also be aware. Like
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: in two thousand and nine, I thought Bill was very
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: you know, very poignant, very very self aware of the
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: situation with the team. He knew that we can beat
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: the bad teams, we can't beat the good ones because
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: I just can't get this team to play the way
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: that I need him to play. Now, I would argue
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: that it's a step further than that. You can't get
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: the team to play the way you need them to
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: play because they weren't good enough to play that way.
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: And I think I think Bill's answer for everything is
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: that we just got to execute better, Like if they
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: just to execute the plan, Like if the players are like, yeah,
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: but can you Every play is workable if it's executed
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: to perfection. But are your players good enough to consistently
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: execute the plays the way you need them to be executed?
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: And I would argue no, I would argue in two
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: thousand and nine, No, I think they were a very
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: thin team that year, and as he said, you slammed,
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: you know, you double down on Moss over the top
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: and slam down on Welker, and you shut down the
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: offense right because you didn't have players that were good enough.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: Now we'd kill for players like that.
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: Now, I know it's crazy in hindsight, and.
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: This could be the biggest moment of the show. Evan's
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: Yeah has turned?
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Evan has turned?
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: Has turned?
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: Evan?
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: Hello, wait what you have to say? This is a
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: big one. Paul is right, very we had to compare
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: notes and everything a lot of moving parts. So good
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: news first or bad news first?
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: What do we want?
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: Bad news?
- 1:27:07Speaker 8: No?
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: Tayekwon Thornton. Really so no, taekwon Thornton And different. No
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: Jack Jones, both those guys and Marcus Jones obviously still
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: not there. No Judon, no Christian Gonzales. That's the absences.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: The good news, if you want to call it that.
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: Riley Reef is back, Trey Flowers is back, and Cody
- 1:27:28Speaker 3: Davis is back.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Perfect.
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: So I had this long talk and I said, everybody's
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: gonna get all excited about all the guys. I'm back
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: on ir. You know who's coming back book it right now?
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: Cody Davis.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: You watch Yeah, So Cody can't wait to get him
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: back in the mix. Cody Davis back in the mix,
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: and Trey Flowers back in the mix.
- 1:27:50Speaker 11: Now.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: I will just say that if they play Trey Flowers
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: over Keon White, that is horrible. But he is back,
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: and I guess they need bodies there now at the end,
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: So whatever, that's.
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: How I feel. I mean, I totally with you, one
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: hundred percent. I just I think he can alleviate some
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: of the loss of Judo. He doesn't like.
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: I totally not like want key On White out there,
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: but I think they need a rotational piece. And I
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: also I just think he's a little bit of a
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: different player, So I don't think it's like, you know,
- 1:28:14Speaker 6: they weren't going to swap him in for Judaan to
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: play standing up on the edge the whole time. So
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: we'll see how they use him. I mean, I'm not
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: I hear what you guys saying. I'm not totally like,
- 1:28:23Speaker 6: oh God.
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: Trey Flowers.
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: No, no, no, Like, here's the thing. Do you have
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: so Tae Kwan Thornton's not out there?
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: Nope?
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: All right, you have to make room for Cody Davis,
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: Trey Flowers, Riley Reef and J. C.
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: Jackson and j C.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: Jackson.
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: So that's four spots. Now you have two with Judon Agains.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: They already have an open spot. There's only fifty two
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: players on the roster right now.
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: They only had fifty two players in the roster for
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: the game. Yeah, I thought that was illegal.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: They only have fifty two players.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you had to go into every game
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: where the fifty three players.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: That happened before, Paul, where they had fifty two.
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: And they have to move a guy up to the
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: practice squad from the practice squad when that happens. Oh,
- 1:29:09Speaker 4: they did Farms never mind, right, Farms backed down? Never mind?
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: They did have fifty three guys. Yeah, okay, right, because
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: Farms got elevated to the from the practice squad.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: Sure, he went to have fifty two players signed to
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: the fifty three mans.
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: Right now, so that's three. So someone's got to go. Now,
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: Marcus Stones not eligible anyway yet, right, it's not eligible
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: to come off now. I know he's not going to
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: come off anyway, but yeah, Reef, I think makes sense.
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: Riley Reef, you need you need some bodies up there.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no, I think the Riley Reef in some ways,
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: like we were talking about earlier, like he is known
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: for being a pretty tough, hard nose, run blocking lineman
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: and they can't run the ball, so maybe he does
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: help you in that respect. It's disappointing that Taekwon is
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: not out there, not because I think he's the lord
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: and savior of the offense or anything like that, but
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: all indications were that he was going to be out
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: there today, that there was some you know, scuttle butt
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: about that, and I who knows like he just doesn't.
- 1:30:14Speaker 4: Do you think there's any chance that he's out there now?
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: I said, they're just trying.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: To keep it from He had a trouble taping something
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: like that.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: No, but I mean maybe you know, like Wednesday's the
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: big media day New Orleans, like this will be the headlines.
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: There's all these guys that are eligible to return, and
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: who was out there and who wasn't and New Olean's
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: reads it on Wednesday. Okay, well, he's eligible to return,
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: but he wasn't out at practice. We don't have to
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: really worry me.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, but if he comes out, they
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: have to listen him in the report.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: They won't be on the roster. What do you mean,
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: He's not on the roster, so you don't have to
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: listen them at all.
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: Yeah, none of these guys have to be listed on
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: the injury report until they're activated starting. Yeah, but get
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: that will be on the wire, the fact that their
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: clock has started will will be on the wire.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Right, and I think that would be tonight, right Yeah.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: It's funny because I saw some like obviously false reports
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: now of people saying sources tell me that Taekwon Thornton
- 1:31:10Speaker 6: will return this we.
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: Well, I'll just like I saw that. We don't break
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: news here, but I will tell you that that a
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: lot of people were being told that Taekwon was going
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: to come back now not you know, other people outside
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: of are this.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: I saw the one guy doing it.
- 1:31:26Speaker 4: It's a kid that I wasn't really familiar with until
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: this summer, and I haven't seen it.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: Right, I'm just saying that the people that the media
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: I was just at practice with a lot of those
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: people were hearing through the grape vine, but they weren't
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: but they weren't reporting. They weren't reporting it, which tells
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: me that they were hearing.
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: It from somebody else. Yeah, so like do you know
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: what I mean? Like in other words, Evan said that
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: they're you know, like not like Bill Belichick told me
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: that they're gonna So with all.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: This coming and going and new faces or old faces back,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: was there an audible gasp from the media when you
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: get out there?
- 1:32:00Speaker 3: There was no audible gas, but there was a there
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: was maybe we'll call it a false start by the media.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: We did.
- 1:32:07Speaker 3: We left before we were kicked out, which just conditioned,
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: Oh the horn went off and we are said our
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: condition that that's the end of our time, and Stacy
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: called us back and said, no, no, we still got
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: another couple of minutes here. Guys, like hang out a
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: little bit longer and uh, you know you're not supposed
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: to to tweet until it's closed, right, And of course
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: all of us fired off our tweets because we thought
- 1:32:35Speaker 3: we were done. So we're all in trouble.
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: No, no, we're not in trouble. But that's funny that
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: that did happen.
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: How was the mood of the team.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: The mood of the team is Henry happier than he evident.
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: The mood of the team is literally the same no
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: matter what, Like I never like you can never always
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: said that you never actually tell a difference between the
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: mood of the team at one and three, three and one.
- 1:33:02Speaker 3: You just they're the same. It's it's warm work.
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: Yeah. I remember like maybe a year or so in
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: for when when I came to work with Freddy and
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: I was talking to you about this on the bus,
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: you know, and you said something like so I think
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: it was like probably in the middle middle of the
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: first year, and you said like, so, you know, what
- 1:33:18Speaker 4: do you think or something like that, and I was like,
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: the biggest thing for being on the team plane is
- 1:33:24Speaker 4: that you could never tell after a game if they
- 1:33:26Speaker 4: want or a lost.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: I know, people said ask me that all the time,
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: they're like, oh, it must have been a long ride home.
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: I'm like, it's the same ride home.
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: It's the same in our plane. Now you can't even
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: see the players.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: No, I know, but it's not like on that plane,
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: not like hearing any like, it's not like celebration.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: There was one exception to that rule, and it was
- 1:33:43Speaker 4: the game in two thousand and seven that they beat
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: the Colts and they played another one bites the dust
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: on the way home and that plane just floated home.
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: You know, a couple other examples, like the famous one
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: in two thousand and one, Freddy when Charlie Weiss was
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: watching the TV of the Raiders Jets game and would
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: try to figure out if we were going to the
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: Raiders or the wild card or whatever, and the plane
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: erupted when when the Jets won that game, which allowed
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: the Patriots to have the buye. But I mean, you
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: go like thirty to ten losses in Miami where they
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: buried the ball, you'd have no idea. You'd have no
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: idea after the game that they that they had just
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: gotten killed.
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: So we we know in practice, when it's really hot out,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: the coaches tend to wear heavier clothes and when it's
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: really cold out they don't wear any clothes. Is that true?
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: So now it's in between.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: It was actually pretty hot out there, record highs today
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: eighty three. Oh, that's very hot.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: So were there a lot of heavy hoodies and you know,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Robert jacksons, no, but tees.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: It was very hot. It was unseasonably warm. So media
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: grousing related to the Yeah, and of course that today
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: was the day that we got to stay out there
- 1:35:00Speaker 3: or extra time as like none of us.
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: Were guys over there in the sun, the sun.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: We're like holding up my hands.
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: A lot of sun exchange, like did anyone bring sunscreen?
- 1:35:09Speaker 13: No?
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: But I wish I wore some sunglasses or something, because
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: the sun is you know, it's right.
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: Sure he didn't squint. And see Taekwon, he's like skinny.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: I'd be curious to see if he gets out there
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: this week at all, if it's if it's today or
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: tomorrow whatever, because yeah, maybe it's you know, it's very
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: possible that it could just be tomorrow, like you know,
- 1:35:28Speaker 3: like that that does happen. They pads today, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: Wednesdays they've been in pads and then you know Thursday,
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: Friday not pads. But they've been in pads most Wednesdays
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: in season A.
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: Right, because they don't have to determine who's on the
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: roster until Saturday.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, so.
- 1:35:44Speaker 5: But probably, I mean I kind of was holding out
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: hope the taekwon THRM was gonna play this weekend. I
- 1:35:47Speaker 5: mean this is probably. I mean, I know he could
- 1:35:49Speaker 5: come out tomorrow, but if he's not there, I.
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: Would say if he didn't, if he's not practicing at
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: all today, I would say, you're probably right.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: Not yeah, Bama.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: Oh well, well, well, hold out hope, but should you safe? Now?
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: All right? Web radio at patries dot com is the
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: email address the ACE ticket hotline. Uh, let's get back
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: to your calls and emails. Jim is in San Francisco.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: What's up, Jim? Yeah, yep a Jim. Yeah, Okay, here
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: we go.
- 1:36:23Speaker 14: I'm not none as down on the whole team as
- 1:36:25Speaker 14: everybody else here. I think when we get Evans old boy,
- 1:36:30Speaker 14: uh pekwon back, we can open up some Jets sweeps,
- 1:36:35Speaker 14: open up the middle.
- 1:36:36Speaker 8: Of the field a little bit.
- 1:36:38Speaker 14: And I think, if I'm if I'm Bill, I'm calling
- 1:36:41Speaker 14: Cincinnati and I'm trying to get to the Higgins because
- 1:36:43Speaker 14: I know he wants out. You gotta probably give at
- 1:36:47Speaker 14: least a one or one or two and maybe a
- 1:36:50Speaker 14: mid rounder. But you got to get somebody in this.
- 1:36:53Speaker 14: We need some new blow, we need some speed, we
- 1:36:55Speaker 14: need some blanked. I'm giving Cincy a call and trying
- 1:36:59Speaker 14: to drag.
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: Him over here.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Right, Okay, thanks Jims.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: He does Higgs?
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: You guys do that?
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: Well, Tis say a first and a third.
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: He's hurt for T Higgins, So okay, first and a
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: third for a receiver, a wide receiver who's going to
- 1:37:14Speaker 4: be a free agent at the end.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: Of the year. No, well, what if you bring him
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: in and you know, sign and you sign him?
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: Yeah, And then I would say, I mean that's the
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: j Brown but yeah, because I don't care about this year, right,
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: but I'll take T Higgins going forward, but you get
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: him before he gets on the mark. Yeah. And by
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: the way, T Higgins a number one.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: He's a number one.
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: I think he could be well he definitely, yeah, but
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: I think he could be. And the other thing that
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: I think is interesting is Cincinnati's, you know, sort of
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: teetering at one and three and they look awful. He's
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: planning on playing this week, so like I know everybody
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: is like looking at it.
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: It's like, well.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: He's a trade guy. Well he's trying to get out
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: there and play to save their season. He doesn't sound
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: that doesn't sound like a guy who's pushing through expect to. Yeah,
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: he's got a broken rib.
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: H that's painful.
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: I don't know if you're done just with T Higgins,
- 1:38:05Speaker 3: Like I think the T Higgins is the number one receiver,
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: but like it's kind of like you know, in baseball
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: he's the number one starter, But is he an ace?
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: Like I don't. I don't know about that, Like you know,
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: so that's why everyone's.
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: Got him in the crosshairs and like I'm great. I
- 1:38:19Speaker 5: mean he's good, you know. I just I don't want
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: to make sure like you get him in the receiver.
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: Well he's not the right number one, he's one B.
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: We got a one B. No, we need that one.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: Ag For someone who says you shouldn't worry about what
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: people say you, you often are arguing with the people
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: who say things, Well, I get that's my plan. Let it, dude,
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: stay in your lane. You'll let me be in my life.
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: I feel the arguments before they I think both. I
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: think Both those guys are definitely better than anybody you have,
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: and they're really good receivers, but they truly move the
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: needle for the Patriots in a way Higgins would. I
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: think it moves the needle, But I don't if that's
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: your only move, If all you're doing is trading for T. Higgins,
- 1:38:55Speaker 3: I don't think it's.
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: It's just funny though, when in a league where literally
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: you could throw out a fake trade for anybody that like,
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: it's always T Higgins is always the guy that like,
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: that's the savior for the Patriots offense is T Higgins.
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: But I think that the reason why people fixate on
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: a guy like that is because of the situation he's in. Yeah,
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: you know, they they're gonna have to they just reup borrow.
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: They're gonna have to reap Chase because Chase is the
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: better player. I would agree with you that Tim Higgins
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: is not Chase. So they're kind of using logic and
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: saying they can't sign everyone, even though you can, they
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: that team, I would say won't because that team is
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: pretty tight. So I think that's why people look at T.
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: Higgins and they say, well, yeah, I would rather have
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: a J. Brown or Devonte Adams, but T Higgins is available.
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: That's a realistic option.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: I'm not like if I had the choice, if you
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: told me, like you could have any of the like
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: like the guys Paul is talking about that are going
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: to be available and realistic, like I'd probably rather Judy
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: or Brandon ni Yuk. Honestly, Oh, I would take out you.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: I don't love Judy.
- 1:39:58Speaker 5: I haven't seen much, seen much. I haven't seen it
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: seems like he gets hurt all the time.
- 1:40:02Speaker 3: I love Ayuk.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: I think Brandon Ayuk I think is developing into a star.
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I I I like to Higgins. I just think
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: that that his skill set is. You know, he's an
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: outside guy, can tested catches big receiver like I just
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: with the quarter. If you're sticking with Mac like then
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: I think a guy like Brandon Nyuk who's a route runner,
- 1:40:21Speaker 3: who's a really good.
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: And Mike you explosive. We miss some of these reds,
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: like some of the catches he made on Oh yeah,
- 1:40:27Speaker 4: we're ridiculous.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: In fact, let me catalog him off for you.
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: He gets mad when when I'm like, oh my god,
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: you see that question, how are you in the middle
- 1:40:36Speaker 4: of a conversation. I like, it's right there on that model, like,
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: how did the Jets get the ball back?
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: Said, well, obviously there's just an interception and they punted
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: it back to him and then he got it with
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: sixty five years game.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: I'm like, we're doing a radio show right.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: Now, like, how do you game book?
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: I'd like, I'd like to say that he's exaggerates.
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: But do you think there's any concern though, of these
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: guys like and and I'm with you.
- 1:40:56Speaker 6: I'm just you know, throwing thought out there that maybe
- 1:40:59Speaker 6: they're not as good when they don't have Debo or
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: Jamar Chase across.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: On the Absolutely, they're gonna come here.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: It's the number one and that's my juju theory, and
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: everyone's like, you know, So that's why I.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: Think my bigger point is just that we get this
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: calls for years and years now on T Higgins and
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: it's like, are we sure that that's the answer, because
- 1:41:14Speaker 6: I don't want to like talk about sending a first
- 1:41:16Speaker 6: round a third round pick to a guy that we're like.
- 1:41:18Speaker 4: Oh, Michael, Michael, I couldn't agree with you more, but
- 1:41:21Speaker 4: absolutely I agree with that.
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: That's why I feel like you're not done. Like you
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: have to have t Higgins and maybe a player in
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: the draft, you know, a top one hundred player, a
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: top one hundred guy in the draft, and you know,
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: do what the Eagles did, do what Miami did do,
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: Like you have to pair those guys with with somebody else.
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: I my bigger fear is do they know what to
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: do with a guy like that? Do they know how
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: to best get the most out of a guy like that?
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: Because they you know, with the with the small exception
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: of like the Moss explosion, they've never really had that
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: kind of a toy to to work with.
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: That's why I favored favorite Judy and Ayuk is because
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: that those types of guys are more.
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Thing about them. Think Joey Galloway was Yeah.
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: No, I mean, like listen, it's easy to sit here
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: and laugh and say that all of those guys couldn't
- 1:42:12Speaker 4: pick up the system, right, you know, then there's a
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: laundry list, right, yep, there's a there's a commonality here.
- 1:42:22Speaker 4: They're all trying to pick up this system and maybe
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: weren't allowed to do it any other way. And I
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: wonder if you know, like Brandon Ayuk doesn't work because
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: he does things. That's not the way we do them here,
- 1:42:33Speaker 4: and we're not going to force feed them. We're not
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: going to make him the number one and whatever. I
- 1:42:38Speaker 4: would worry. I think he's really telling you. I think
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: he's blossoming into a star, like he's really good. But
- 1:42:47Speaker 4: I just wonder if they would look at that and say, well, yeah,
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: well here, when you're the when you're the guy in
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: the game plan that we call for to get thrown to,
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: but next week you might not get any any targets.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: That's the way they do it here. And I wonder
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: I worry about that more than I worry about the
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: guy that acquired isn't that good?
- 1:43:04Speaker 5: And I feel like Brady got kind of blamed for
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: some of that.
- 1:43:06Speaker 4: All the time, all the time he got blamed for
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: continued post Brady, like you know, like.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: I just feel like I always look at, like, you know,
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: the guys that have succeeded here, and you know, I
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: know we talk about Jacoby Myers a lot because of
- 1:43:21Speaker 3: the decision the offseason, but like Jacobe Myers succeeded here, Okay,
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: why why did he succeed here? And you look at
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: the traits that Jacoby Myers has and then you just
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: quarterback look at those traits and say, well, if we
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: had Jacoby Myers but he runs a four to four
- 1:43:36Speaker 3: instead of a four to six, Like now we're like,
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: we're gonna have an even better Jacoby Myers, but instead
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: of like t Higgins who's a completely different type of
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: receiver who plays on the outside that you have to
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: throw open and throw jump balls to and things like that.
- 1:43:50Speaker 3: That hasn't really worked here. So like I love Parker,
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: but it hasn't worked.
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: But he's good. Maybe it would work if you were
- 1:43:59Speaker 4: trying to treat Higgins the way they treat Parker, maybe
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: they would have a big play machine.
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't I don't have like a
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: lot of hope in them their ability to take that
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: specific skill set.
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: That point. I like that point, like because you're right
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: like they this this is the guy that they seem like.
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: They're like, we gotta get him out there.
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: He's gotta be out there all the time. I'm with Evan,
- 1:44:19Speaker 4: this last point that Evan's making, I don't have a
- 1:44:21Speaker 4: lot of faith. Yeah, Like you can fill in the
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: blank whichever one you like, the like I love Ayuk.
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: If Evans guy is a Yuke. I will fall in
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: line because I really like him. I don't have the
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: faith that he'll be as good here as he was there.
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: I don't know about that, Like I don't, I agree
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: with you, but I think his skill set fits their
- 1:44:41Speaker 3: offense better, especially if if Billy Oh is still here.
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: Like quickness, route running, ability, like that's it.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: That's it's almost like, you know, what I'm hearing is
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: almost like we used to talk about Front seven guys
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: like pass Rechid. Yeah he had ten sacks at that team,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: but Bill's not gonna let him do that. Yeah, right,
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: you know it's I'm hearing like the same thing, except
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: on offense.
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: You know, yeah, it's it's related, for sure.
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: I do have some concerns about the way they try
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: to set things up in general to win. You know,
- 1:45:13Speaker 4: it's nothing new, variations of you know, run the ball,
- 1:45:17Speaker 4: play defense, and be strong on special teams.
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: How did you see them wearing those shirts pregame tough teams,
- 1:45:23Speaker 3: tough teams, cover kicks.
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it, And I guess we're not all that tough.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: That that's a new kid. That's a league.
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: We're spending a lot of time making t shirts.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: Last league punting a lot of.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: I wonder who the guy was that made that T
- 1:45:38Speaker 3: shirt seeing that the guy that made the sweatshirts somebody, and.
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: I believe the kick receiving team is somewhere around twenty six.
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: Sounds like somebody in this team just invested in a
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: T shirt store.
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: Or one of those things called it the Yeah, like
- 1:45:51Speaker 3: our opponent.
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: Drive start is like really like those two things net
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: punting that they're literally second. Now, some of that is
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: due I think to a lot of plus fifty punting,
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: but the other part of it is the kick returns
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: that the other team. I think they're like twenty sixth
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: in kick coverage something like that.
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: I'm not getting into with you.
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: Paul, don't worry. Cody Davis is coming back saving well.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: And then you know, so someone will say, like Paul,
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: Paul mocked it, but they're they're struggling on special teams. Yeah,
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: that'll be the difference between wins and losses.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Alex is in Austin, Texas. What's up, Alex? Hey, guys,
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: how we doing goody?
- 1:46:34Speaker 20: First time?
- 1:46:35Speaker 8: Long time here? Kind of I'm kind of in the
- 1:46:38Speaker 8: same boat as Evan in the sense like I don't
- 1:46:40Speaker 8: remember too much of the before times, like I'm a
- 1:46:45Speaker 8: couple of years older, but I like vaguely remember Drew time.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:46:50Speaker 20: But the word that's come into my mind when thinking
- 1:46:53Speaker 20: about this team is dysfunctional and like we're we're on
- 1:46:58Speaker 20: a path towards lap looking like the Judge and the Texans.
- 1:47:02Speaker 11: Have the past several years.
- 1:47:04Speaker 8: And I don't know if like a T. Higgins is
- 1:47:07Speaker 8: gonna solve that, So I'll.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: Okay, thanks, yeah, yeah, I mean it is taught.
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: It is hard, like I'm not trying to like woe
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: is me, but like you you don't one in three
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: like in this situation, and like it looking like it's
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: looking in terms of where this team is heading, Like
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: people from my generation do not know what this is
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: like like we have no clue what to do. I'll
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: fully admit it, like we you were lost, like we're
- 1:47:35Speaker 3: lost puppies right now. It's like what do you Our
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: team's not going to be good, like you know we're not,
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: Like this isn't just you know, rinse and repeat. It's
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: too easy before Yeah, and it's tough, like it's tough
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: to wrap your head around it.
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: Eric the Red in me Bane, North Carolina, by way
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: of situate. For twenty years, we have heard Bill Surley arrogant,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: frankly sometimes hilarious attitude toward the press, and when he
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: was getting us deep into the play every year, he
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: got away with it. Now the team he built, led
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: by the coaches he hired, playing the games he designed,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: have been playing losing football for almost four years, and
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: the time for that BS is long past. We need
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: something from Bill. He demands from everyone under him, accountability.
- 1:48:18Speaker 1: He deserves the tough questions, and we fans deserve to
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: hear the answer. As a fan, I'll ride the ups
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: and downs of my team's fortunes, even when it's an
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: exercise in masochism. As a consumer who invests time, emotional investment,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: and a bunch of money on merch and getting out
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: of market games, I'm living at the product on the
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: field and the attitude of the man responsible. The bucks
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: stops with you. Bill, be better better.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: Kill loves that press conference this morning was classic. He
- 1:48:49Speaker 3: was late to the press conference. Then Alan Siegel asks
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: him about trading for players and says, oh, like, when
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: you have a rush of injuries at let's say corner, Bill, Like,
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: would you let's say trade for let's say j C.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: Jackson to fill that.
- 1:49:05Speaker 5: No, No, he didn't say Jack Jackson. I'm just saying,
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: like he was saying generally, would you trade?
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: Would you genuinely do it? I tell you I didn't
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: even get back to my desk before Ian Rappaport tweeted
- 1:49:16Speaker 3: that they traded for ja C. Jackson, and he looked
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: Alan Siegel in the face and said, well, got to
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: see who's available.
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: That was like he did a solid like thirty five
- 1:49:28Speaker 5: minutes on the on the on the Saints to like
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: yet down. I was like zoning out and I'm like,
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: oh my god, that's the idea.
- 1:49:35Speaker 3: It was hilarious, Like he they he was. I am
- 1:49:39Speaker 3: fully believe he was late to the press conference because
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: they were.
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: And then Alan Siegel asks him about trading for a
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: player at this time of year, and he basically boxed
- 1:49:51Speaker 3: at the question.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: Great, it was great.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: Allen Seagull right after he did that, was like, I
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: know you're trading for Jase jack Yeah, he just said
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: that is funny.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: Uh. Braylen says, I haven't listened to you. I haven't
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: listened to you guys in a couple of weeks, just
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: because I've been depressed with this season, and I try
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: to just disregard anything Patriots, but I just want to
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: know you all's opinion on what could be done for
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: this team to be successful after one and three start
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: is a trade? Is it change play calling? Or maybe
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: just give up for the season and gets stinky mac
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: Jones out of here? Well that's I don't know, man,
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: run what the show's all about is trying to figure
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: it out. I don't know how.
- 1:50:30Speaker 4: But they have to improve on offense.
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: I mean it's yep. They have to pretend a quarterback.
- 1:50:34Speaker 5: They have to run the ball, they have to complete.
- 1:50:36Speaker 3: Passes, run the ball. Let's just let's just start there,
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: like start week two, run.
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: Score.
- 1:50:45Speaker 3: They're not going to score points throwing the ball, trying
- 1:50:48Speaker 3: to throw the ball. As much as they've had to
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: throw the ball, they're not good enough at it.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: Chris with a T I A N. Prior to my
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: call yesterday, you guys were in the who would you
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: hire to replace Bill conversation when Fred asked, Evan and
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: Paul both said Ben Johnson, Fred having no idea who
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: the hell Ben Johnson is? Neither do I, by the way,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: didn't respond with I don't know who that is or
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: or uh, I don't know who that is. He simply said, smoothly,
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, where is he? Now? Never let him see
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: you sweat?
- 1:51:20Speaker 4: And before, like you know, I know the guy that
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: called it or.
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: Talked about Ben Johnson last year.
- 1:51:24Speaker 4: You know, we talked about it yesterday, but before, like
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: you know, I know the guy that called in and
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: evidently Ben Johnson's the anti Christ at school school plays.
- 1:51:36Speaker 3: But you know, people like that.
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not raying, I'm not waying specifically Ben Johnson.
- 1:51:43Speaker 4: I'm giving him as an example of a guy who
- 1:51:46Speaker 4: has had a lot of success as an offensive coordinator.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: I want the next offensive master.
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: Monk, you want the next Mike McDaniel.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: Mike McDaniel, Sean McVay, uh, you know, Shannon whatever. I
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: want one of these guys. And I trust that they
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: have a network of people who identify these people. And
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: I don't mean to be flippant, but it's not my
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: job to know every single guy's sort of offensive philosophy
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: and how he would best work with the Patriots. But
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: that's what I think they need. They need an offensive guy,
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: a new sort of a new age offensive guy to
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: build with. That's that's what I would like. That's Ben Johnson.
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: I mean Ben Johnson's how my frun game is similar
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: to like the Shanahan McDaniel tree, where there's just a
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: ton of moving parts right Like you got motion, you
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: got guys bocking at different angles, you got all sorts
- 1:52:38Speaker 3: of things going on. Then you got the play action
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: off of it. Like he's made Jared Goff better than
- 1:52:43Speaker 3: he was with the Rams, Like Jared Goff looks like
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: a real top ten NFL quarterback right now.
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: So he stood up at his kids play and said,
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: watch my kids.
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: My kid him You believe that?
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Well, I'm trying to see. Like the other one I
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: didn't understand is at training camp or he stepped in
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: front of a woman that says you can't come in,
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: like why.
- 1:53:02Speaker 4: Which probably meant that there was some like restricted area
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: that they weren't Maybe maybe.
- 1:53:06Speaker 3: This woman was like trying to get on the field
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: or something like that, and he was.
- 1:53:09Speaker 5: Like, my kid, dominate this play everyone here it comes boom.
- 1:53:13Speaker 3: That would be Joe Judge, Like, no, he's really good
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: at scheming up on offense and he's going to be
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: a hot, hot commodity. Like that guy's getting the head
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: coaching job as soon as he.
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: Says I was surprised he didn't get one last year.
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: I think he I think he thought he wasn't ready.
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: I think he pulled a Demico, Ryans.
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: Ben and Brooklyn. Any insight on Barmore being a non
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: factor is he hurt? Has Evans film reviews shown teams
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: paying more attention to.
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: I don't think he's been a non factor. I thought
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: he was great against the Jets. He has been hurt,
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: not as as good last week, but you know, I
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: thought he was really really impactful against the Jets. He
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: had seven pressures, played a little bit more over the nose,
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: like the center and in a gaps things like that
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: because Godshaw got hurt. I think he's been really good
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: and he doesn't have the like quick twitch pass rush
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: moves like he did as a rookie since these injuries
- 1:54:04Speaker 3: have started to pile up, but he's figured it out
- 1:54:07Speaker 3: how to you know, use his strength and in upper
- 1:54:09Speaker 3: body power and things like that. Instead.
- 1:54:11Speaker 4: I think Mike and I have to take the blame
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: on this one.
- 1:54:13Speaker 3: I think you and I kind of you called them
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: Adam Butler and people got upset.
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh no, no, no, that would be on the
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: lower end. I think you and I are guilty of
- 1:54:20Speaker 4: raising expectations to a level that probably weren't fair. I
- 1:54:24Speaker 4: think you and I thought he was going to be
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: the kind of player that Evan just described that he's not.
- 1:54:28Speaker 4: I thought he's gonna be a quick twitch like ability
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: to cause havoc from the inside. I think he was
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: Aaron Donald light yeah, you know, and I don't.
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: Think he has I don't think that's heavy.
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: Yeah. I think he was a rookie, and then then
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: the injuries piled up and he doesn't have that.
- 1:54:44Speaker 4: I loved him. I was so excited about the draft pick,
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: and I'm probably with the emailers. I feel your analysis aside.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: I'm not telling you you're wrong, but I've been disappointed
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: because I haven't noticed him a ton.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: Ben also says about penalties other than the Juju penalty
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: on I think that most of the Patriots penalties reflect talent.
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: In other words, holds, offensive line, holds, false starts, and
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: more about getting beat or fear thereof.
- 1:55:11Speaker 4: That's an interesting way to look at it. Holds Definitely,
- 1:55:14Speaker 4: if you get a lot of holding penalties, you're getting beaten.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: False start could be just you're not, but you can
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: make it locked in, but you can make an argument
- 1:55:19Speaker 4: for false start because you feel like you need that.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: You know, and we talked yesterday how good Trent Brown
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: has been at that of anticipating and not being guilty
- 1:55:27Speaker 4: of false starts, but probably feels like he needs that
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: split second head start get out there.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: I wonder, you know. I don't know what's going on
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: with on WINU. He's not on the injury report anymore.
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: I don't think. I think they removed him. Yeah, and
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: he doesn't look right though, he's not coming out of
- 1:55:43Speaker 3: his stance the same way that he usually does, like
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: he his achilles out.
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: I mean, is that what happened like or what it
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: actually was?
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: Re said ankle, which right, which doesn't necessarily like a
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: lot of times if you see calf.
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: That could be you could kill your achilles.
- 1:56:00Speaker 3: I've heard they've done. They've done ankle for achilles tea
- 1:56:02Speaker 3: like remember and Brady had the achilles injury.
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: I think Aaron Rodgers, I think the originally announced ankle
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: and I said that ain't an ankle. I I saw
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: his foot, Yeah, but I said he's got an achilles
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: and yeah, I mean you do wonder if it was
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: something more significant, But if they if he had surgery
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: to repair a torn achilles and.
- 1:56:20Speaker 3: He would not be on the field, I wonder, you know,
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: I just wonder what's going on with him because he
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: you know, he is just not moving the off the
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: ball the way that he normally does.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: So Trevor in Kansas City says, one, I really like
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: the J. C. Jackson move. Low risk, high reward. Two.
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: If the price to pay for seeing my team win
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: six championships in my lifetime is dealing with a mediocre
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: team while Bill finishes his career on his terms, then
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: I'll happily pay that price. I still think we compete
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: in most games the rest of the way.
- 1:56:50Speaker 4: Okay, I could live with that the second part. The
- 1:56:53Speaker 4: first part, I think it's low risk, low reward, But
- 1:56:57Speaker 4: I don't think there's a scenario that is a high reward.
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: Unless he has like eight interceptions or something crazy.
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: But I mean, like ye that right, Like, Okay, so
- 1:57:07Speaker 3: he's gonna get beat. We know that we've watched Jacy Jackson,
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: we all have. We know he gets beat. You know,
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: he's not gonna cover Stefan Diggs like a you know,
- 1:57:15Speaker 3: Patrick Sir tan Wood or maybe Christian Gonzales would have,
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: but like they have two turnovers in four games. Like,
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: so if he comes in and he has five or
- 1:57:24Speaker 3: six interceptions by the end of the year, like at
- 1:57:26Speaker 3: least he's bringing something to the table.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: Some of them could come and they're starting to play
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: teams that are gonna have their backups playing, so it
- 1:57:33Speaker 4: could happen. Jared ain't gonna happen against Josh Allen.
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: Jared and Virginia. Mack is not that good and I
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: don't care. If you gave him Jerry Rice and Randy
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: mosson the prime, Mack wouldn't be able to get the
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: ball to them. He's a slight upgrade over Zappi, that's all.
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: And all of us talk about the league surrounding young
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: quarterbacks with talent to win. The problem is that if
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: the goal is to actually win the Super Bowl, history
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: tells you that, with the exception of Foles, all the
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: Super Bowl winners in recent memory or QB by probable
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: Hall of famers, a young quarterback surrounded by talent might
- 1:58:04Speaker 1: make it to the game once, but they don't win.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: And then when they when they sign a huge contract,
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: the team has to jettison players in the Magic falls apart.
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: I've been critical of Bill.
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: Just an example of that. But go ahead.
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: Is Stafford a Hall of Famer? I think he is,
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: but I don't think that they've he's a good player.
- 1:58:23Speaker 3: I'm not saying he's bad.
- 1:58:24Speaker 4: I think I think he's a borderline Hall of famer.
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: I loved it, will tell you I loved it.
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he's a good player.
- 1:58:28Speaker 1: I've been critical of Bill and his drafting in the past,
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: but moving on from Bill, or stripping him of his
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: authority so he leaves, would be a stupid mistake. Sorry, Fred.
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: It would be like when Brady left and we were
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: told it would be exciting, but guess what, it sucked.
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: The same thing would happen if you run off your
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: Hall of Fame coach, We'll just get worse than it
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: is now. We need that guy at quarterback if we
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: want to win it all. I've wanted us this tank
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: since Brady left to be able to get that guy
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: at quarterback. But the owner understandably has wanted to win. Now.
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: That is the mistake that is causing all the problems,
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: and we shouldn't double down on that mistake. We need
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: to tank getting rid of Bill is not going to
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: fix this.
- 1:59:07Speaker 5: It's a loser mentality right there.
- 1:59:10Speaker 4: Getting rid of Bill isn't going to fix this.
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: That's what he says.
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: That was all over the map.
- 1:59:15Speaker 5: Just lose every game and then in like five years
- 1:59:18Speaker 5: do I have to have.
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: Tank tank one on one class again? How many times
- 1:59:22Speaker 4: can I?
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: I can't do this.
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: I'm not talking to stop it.
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: Stop it.
- 1:59:28Speaker 4: You don't try to lose you Tank, see, I think
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: you're in your book. You just don't activate guys like
- 1:59:36Speaker 4: instead of letting Sean Wade, let's go right, what if
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: Sean Wade is as good as J. C. Jackson? You
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: don't know what you don't know? If jac Jackson has
- 1:59:47Speaker 4: posted all these surgeries.
- 1:59:49Speaker 3: I watched him play for two games.
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: Well, evidently the Challengers thought he was so bad he
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: wouldn't get couldn't get on the field, Sean way King,
- 1:59:57Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know what you've watched this year.
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: He's played about how many snaps forty nine snaps.
- 2:00:02Speaker 3: In four weeks eighty something in total. But who cares
- 2:00:05Speaker 3: about the run defense?
- 2:00:07Speaker 4: Certainly not the Patriots.
- 2:00:09Speaker 3: No, we're not paying them to.
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: I mean with the secondary, by the way, they run
- 2:00:13Speaker 4: defense is fine up front, That's not.
- 2:00:15Speaker 1: What I'm Another Christian says Fred. These receivers are the
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: equivalent of PU crew running routes out there. They won't
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: get open, they won't make a play after the ball.
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: Why not trade for somebody that's available, like Judy. The
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: Broncos are releasing players already. I bet he's available. Not
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: saying he resolves all our problems. However, a lineup of Judy, Thornton, Demario,
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: and Born is a lot better than the senior citizens
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: we have out there. Now, go sign help on defense,
- 2:00:41Speaker 1: on offense, and draft some next year. Stop neglecting the offense.
- 2:00:46Speaker 3: I don't disagree with the last line of that, But
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: like paying a sixth round pick swap for j C.
- 2:00:53Speaker 3: Jackson to pick up a million bucks of his salary, Like,
- 2:00:56Speaker 3: if they really wanted to trade for Jerry Judy and
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: he becomes available, then that's not going to prohibit them
- 2:01:00Speaker 3: from trading for Jerry Judy. No, I don't think they'd
- 2:01:03Speaker 3: want to trade for Jerry.
- 2:01:04Speaker 4: I would take the Jerry Judy move, sure, because I
- 2:01:06Speaker 4: think you could do a similar kind of move, you know, swap,
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: you know, probably not seventh and six round picks, but you.
- 2:01:12Speaker 3: Could probably get it for they wanted a first in
- 2:01:15Speaker 3: the off.
- 2:01:15Speaker 4: There there's no way he's getting a first at the
- 2:01:17Speaker 4: at the deadline.
