- 2:32Speaker 3: fifty eight. Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine
- 2:35Speaker 3: three five five zero zero. Wait, so a little change
- 2:37Speaker 3: this morning. I want to tell you about a unique
- 2:41Speaker 3: promotion that's being sponsored by a local business of one
- 2:44Speaker 3: of our good advertisers here on our stations. It's a
- 2:47Speaker 3: Liberty Road children's clothier and toy company there on the
- 2:50Speaker 3: Bridge Road. And I had originally planned to talk to
- 2:53Speaker 3: the owner, Jessica backus about this. Jessica had a little
- 2:56Speaker 3: scheduling conflict and so she's currently flying over the Atlantic
- 3:02Speaker 3: or one of those big bodies of water Atlantic. Midt,
- 3:04Speaker 3: she's flying over the mid Atlantic. Yes, okay, Well, the
- 3:07Speaker 3: role of Jessica backus will be played by one of
- 3:10Speaker 3: our account reps here sales weasels Bobby Sprite.
- 3:14Speaker 5: How you doing, Bobby, I'm great, Thank you so much
- 3:16Speaker 5: for having me and what a beautiful introducts.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, well, you know, it is what it is. But
- 3:21Speaker 3: Jessica again, we plan on having her here, but sometimes
- 3:23Speaker 3: scheduling problems arise, and so Bobby and I who share
- 3:28Speaker 3: an office up there, it's at the fund Zone. We
- 3:29Speaker 3: call itself. Bobby and Stephanie, Paully and Amanda and TJ
- 3:35Speaker 3: and Leah. You know, we're all we're the only office
- 3:38Speaker 3: in the building that's got not only a putting green,
- 3:40Speaker 3: but a disco ball.
- 3:41Speaker 5: That's correct.
- 3:41Speaker 3: That's why we call it the fund Zoe. But anyway,
- 3:43Speaker 3: Bobby handles the account for Liberty Row and so she
- 3:46Speaker 3: has agreed to step in. So what are they doing here, ROBERTA.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Well, first of all, I want to thank them so
- 3:52Speaker 5: much for asking me to come on air and represent them.
- 3:55Speaker 5: But right now, so it's their twenty fifth wedding anniversary Troup.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Her husband and Andy decided to take her to Paris,
- 4:02Speaker 5: so they are also pregnant.
- 4:04Speaker 3: It's in France, right, I'm just asking, and.
- 4:09Speaker 5: So there she's pregnant. Their little one they found out
- 4:13Speaker 5: has some heart issues, so they decided to take this
- 4:15Speaker 5: anniversary trip two years early. So they're excited to get back.
- 4:19Speaker 5: But many of you may not know this. Ally, this
- 4:23Speaker 5: is going to be their ninth baby, and all of
- 4:25Speaker 5: their kids are named after president's president.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Let's back up, nine kids.
- 4:30Speaker 6: Nine kids.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I mean, when you're in love, you're.
- 4:32Speaker 3: A mom and you've got two and that's enough for me.
- 4:35Speaker 5: That is enough for me.
- 4:37Speaker 3: So they've got nine kids.
- 4:38Speaker 5: Nine kids.
- 4:39Speaker 3: This is going to be number nine.
- 4:40Speaker 5: This is going to be number nine, okay, all right, yeah.
- 4:42Speaker 3: So they're all named after president.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Their first names are the last names of presidents. So
- 4:46Speaker 5: right now they're running this promotion on their website shop
- 4:49Speaker 5: Liberty Road dot com. You have the opportunity to name
- 4:54Speaker 5: their little baby boy. So you you just go on
- 4:57Speaker 5: their website, send them a suggestion, and you would be
- 5:00Speaker 5: entered to win a one hundred dollars Liberty Row gift card.
- 5:03Speaker 3: So, I mean, what made them because you've been talking
- 5:07Speaker 3: about this in the office when we set up this interview.
- 5:09Speaker 3: What made them decide to go this route? Were they
- 5:11Speaker 3: just out of names at this point?
- 5:13Speaker 5: I think you know what they have such they really
- 5:16Speaker 5: truly value our community so much like supporting the Queen
- 5:20Speaker 5: Beee softball team, United Way of West Virginia, exceptional possibilities,
- 5:24Speaker 5: the children's theater, and so much more. Excuse me. So
- 5:28Speaker 5: they just wanted to do something that would engage the
- 5:30Speaker 5: community and bring also bring an awareness of the importance
- 5:34Speaker 5: of shopping local, because we give back to our local
- 5:37Speaker 5: businesses and they will continue to give back to our community.
- 5:40Speaker 5: So they just wanted to raise awareness about their shop
- 5:44Speaker 5: and give people the opportunity to name their little one. Now,
- 5:48Speaker 5: of course, they will have final say on what goes
- 5:50Speaker 5: on the birth certificate.
- 5:52Speaker 3: So I mean it's last names. Is what they do
- 5:54Speaker 3: for the president last name.
- 5:56Speaker 5: So there's Monroe Liberty, who Liberty Row is named after.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Right now while they're out of town.
- 6:02Speaker 3: There's the president was named Liberty.
- 6:04Speaker 5: No her first name Monroe, Ah, I gotta row Liberty,
- 6:09Speaker 5: and so they just switched those when they name the store, Okay,
- 6:12Speaker 5: go ahead, and that Jefferson Harrison. There's just to name
- 6:18Speaker 5: a few of the names. I cannot remember them all,
- 6:21Speaker 5: but they wanted to, you know, engage us and ask
- 6:24Speaker 5: us our thoughts. I submitted one. Do you want to
- 6:27Speaker 5: know what it was? Was with Garfield?
- 6:29Speaker 3: I was going to say, that's the first thing that
- 6:31Speaker 3: popped up. Would there be a garfielder there? Somebody else?
- 6:35Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody from one of our other
- 6:36Speaker 3: stations today that ask about Rutherford if that was going
- 6:39Speaker 3: to be well, actually it would be Hayes because of
- 6:41Speaker 3: Rutherford Hayes.
- 6:41Speaker 5: She already has a haz Hayes. Yes, and she loves Buchanan, Okay,
- 6:47Speaker 5: but then everyone's going to call him buck.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, So I mean does she know is it
- 6:52Speaker 3: going to.
- 6:52Speaker 7: Be a boy.
- 6:52Speaker 5: It's going to be a boy?
- 6:53Speaker 3: A boy?
- 6:53Speaker 6: Yes.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 5: We did that remote a couple of months ago where
- 6:56Speaker 5: they announced the sex of the baby.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, in a time when people, you know,
- 7:01Speaker 3: you're hearing O the news all the time, people aren't
- 7:02Speaker 3: having kids, they are.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Well, we can count on the backuses nine kids.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I mean, you know years ago, I mean like my
- 7:10Speaker 3: grandparents' generation, that wasn't that wasn't unheard of. I mean
- 7:13Speaker 3: I think my dad was one of like eight. Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 3: and that was but you needed them to work the farms.
- 7:18Speaker 5: You know, right, Well, they have a store.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I was going to say, are they just working the store?
- 7:22Speaker 5: Yeshorthor Jefferson has been manning the store since they've been gone,
- 7:26Speaker 5: since they've been out of town, and he is one
- 7:28Speaker 5: of the most well rounded. I believe he is sixteen,
- 7:32Speaker 5: he could be younger. Just amazing. All of them are
- 7:35Speaker 5: amazing kids. They've done such an excellent, excellent job raising them,
- 7:39Speaker 5: and I'm excited for them. This little one is going
- 7:42Speaker 5: to have some health issues, but they are probably one
- 7:45Speaker 5: of the most positive families I've ever encountered.
- 7:47Speaker 3: All Right, So tell us about the store itself. I mean,
- 7:51Speaker 3: I've had Jessica and Andy on the on the show before,
- 7:54Speaker 3: but to talk about for people that aren't familiar, it's
- 7:56Speaker 3: a very unique shop here and it's on Bridge Road, Charleston,
- 8:00Speaker 3: but talk about it is so it.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Started off as just a children's clothing store, but it
- 8:05Speaker 5: has evolved to gifts. You have family matching outfits, swimwear.
- 8:11Speaker 5: I got a lot of Easter stuff for Charlie's basket
- 8:14Speaker 5: from there. It's beautiful. It's up on ten It's ten
- 8:18Speaker 5: twelve Bridge right next to ten ten Free convenient parking.
- 8:23Speaker 5: The storefront is beautiful and Andy's really into Frank Sinatra,
- 8:28Speaker 5: Dean Martin, the rat Pack. So that's the type of
- 8:31Speaker 5: music you encounter when you walk into the store.
- 8:33Speaker 3: I'll talk about the toys. The toys, I mean, because
- 8:36Speaker 3: that's the official name is like Liberty Career, Clothing, Air.
- 8:40Speaker 5: And Toy Store. Yes, they have tons of toys. The
- 8:45Speaker 5: crayons that will write on anything but wipe off everything.
- 8:48Speaker 3: They have trains and this is not the kind of
- 8:51Speaker 3: toys that you're going to get at a major toy store.
- 8:53Speaker 3: This this has got collectible kind of things, a little
- 8:57Speaker 3: vintage kind of thing.
- 8:59Speaker 5: They're the things you're gonna on to your kids and
- 9:01Speaker 5: then they're going to pass on to their kids. High
- 9:03Speaker 5: quality toys. What are the heirloom toys or generational toys.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Just a lot of unique gifts and the vibe in
- 9:11Speaker 5: there is beautiful. Everything is.
- 9:15Speaker 6: The clothes too.
- 9:16Speaker 5: The same thing with the clothes, their heirloom clothes. You
- 9:19Speaker 5: know your daughter is going to wear this, she's going
- 9:21Speaker 5: to pass it on to her daughter.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Okay, we had a from the tax line here. It
- 9:24Speaker 3: says Wilson Grant Pierce Hoover, potential presidential names and much
- 9:29Speaker 3: better than Buchanan.
- 9:31Speaker 5: I love that. Actually, I love Peers. Peers, it's a
- 9:34Speaker 5: great name.
- 9:35Speaker 3: What about Trump, you could name one Trump.
- 9:36Speaker 5: I am going to not add a comment on well,
- 9:40Speaker 5: I'm just saying, you know, yeah, I'd call them rum.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah, uh Trump, Obama. We can try to get it
- 9:47Speaker 3: into like in the modern era. Biden.
- 9:49Speaker 5: You know, a lot a lot of people like Nixon.
- 9:51Speaker 5: But because of that, you know, that bad reputation.
- 9:57Speaker 3: One night in the summer of near But other than that,
- 10:02Speaker 3: other than that.
- 10:02Speaker 5: It's a strong, powerful name. But yeah, the connotation that
- 10:05Speaker 5: goes along with it.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Kennedy, I mean, I'm trying to have Kennedy. They have
- 10:09Speaker 3: a Kennedy. H Ford.
- 10:11Speaker 5: They have a Ford, Okay, Carter. I don't think they
- 10:15Speaker 5: have a Carter.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Okay Bush.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I am not gonna call my gay Bush and I went.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Well, my friend, Okay. Well, so how do people enter
- 10:24Speaker 3: the contest?
- 10:24Speaker 5: So you can go on to their website shop Libertyroad
- 10:27Speaker 5: dot com and it will pop right up there. It's
- 10:30Speaker 5: the first thing that you see. You type in your suggestion,
- 10:33Speaker 5: leave your name and email. You will also get a
- 10:36Speaker 5: bounce back email that says thank you for submission and
- 10:40Speaker 5: they will be when they come back from Paris. They're
- 10:42Speaker 5: going to be announcing the winner and the official name
- 10:46Speaker 5: of their little boy.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Now where will they announce that will be?
- 10:48Speaker 5: Uh, it will be up at their shop, probably during
- 10:51Speaker 5: one of their Facebook live I do.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I mean, I got to say day to some of
- 10:55Speaker 3: the best Facebook live stuff that you have ever seen.
- 10:58Speaker 3: They have way too much fun.
- 10:59Speaker 5: With certainly entertaining.
- 11:01Speaker 3: It is very entertaining, and it's a great it's a
- 11:03Speaker 3: great business for this area too, because I mean it's unique.
- 11:07Speaker 3: There's nothing like this. You're not going to go to
- 11:08Speaker 3: a mall and find anything like this. It's a it's
- 11:11Speaker 3: just one of the many great shops that they have
- 11:13Speaker 3: up here on Bridge Road, right.
- 11:14Speaker 5: And you can find some things online, but wouldn't you
- 11:17Speaker 5: rather shop local? Right? And it's just it's a great experience.
- 11:22Speaker 5: You're either going to run into jess Andy or one
- 11:25Speaker 5: of her kids that are there to help you out.
- 11:27Speaker 5: You can go on try try clothes on as opposed
- 11:30Speaker 5: to I mean you go to the mall. Now it's
- 11:32Speaker 5: five dollars even park and I'm not sure what's left
- 11:35Speaker 5: over there. So this is really one of the only
- 11:37Speaker 5: places in town that you can go and shop really
- 11:40Speaker 5: nice clothes for your kids that are going to last
- 11:43Speaker 5: and not fall apart.
- 11:44Speaker 3: And it's not something that when your kid goes to
- 11:47Speaker 3: school that you're every kid's gonna have the same thing
- 11:50Speaker 3: on either. Although kids, some kids probably like that, I guess.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you know, they want to be like everyone else.
- 11:55Speaker 5: But this is definitely like you're going to stand out,
- 11:58Speaker 5: it's going to last, it's you're going to look your
- 12:02Speaker 5: kids are going to look great in it and feel great,
- 12:04Speaker 5: and it's high quality.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So all right, and let's and by the way, you
- 12:07Speaker 3: and I both just received a text on This is
- 12:09Speaker 3: from my personal phone and your personal phone, from Tony
- 12:11Speaker 3: to Taylor. Do not read that text on the air.
- 12:14Speaker 3: That's all I'm going to say. Do not read that text.
- 12:17Speaker 3: I'm op it, Yeah, don't just good way to what
- 12:20Speaker 3: do you go upstairs and calling Ashley from HR to
- 12:23Speaker 3: set beside you before you when you read that. All right,
- 12:26Speaker 3: I appreciate Bobby you stepping up to the plate here
- 12:29Speaker 3: because again, the folks back the back of I are
- 12:33Speaker 3: are flying back from from Paris as we speak right now.
- 12:36Speaker 3: But go to over to their website and they'll have
- 12:39Speaker 3: an announcement. When will it be? I mean you may
- 12:41Speaker 3: have said that, but when.
- 12:42Speaker 5: It was going to be tomorrow. It may still be tomorrow,
- 12:45Speaker 5: but they may push it back.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Well, how about you either come back on the show
- 12:49Speaker 3: or just let me know, hand me a note or something.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I'll come down and I'll read what the what the
- 12:53Speaker 3: winner was?
- 12:53Speaker 5: Absolutely thank you.

- 16:16Speaker 3: and the actions of a history to determine good or
- 16:18Speaker 3: bad impacts. It is interesting when you talk about presidents,
- 16:21Speaker 3: how some are viewed with the passing of time. And
- 16:26Speaker 3: you knows most presidents, somebody's going to have an issue
- 16:30Speaker 3: with them when they're in office, whether they're Republican, Democrat
- 16:32Speaker 3: or whatever, They're going to have an issue with them
- 16:34Speaker 3: when they're in office. But then the passing of time.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I mean, take Nixon and I'm not going to turn
- 16:39Speaker 3: this into a presidential show, but take Nixon for example.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I mean, everybody remembers Nixon for Watergate, but they also
- 16:44Speaker 3: forget that Nixon did a lot of really really good
- 16:47Speaker 3: things and if you took if you took Watergate out
- 16:50Speaker 3: of it, most people would say Richard Nixon was one
- 16:52Speaker 3: of the top five presidents of all time, which can't
- 16:54Speaker 3: really take Watergate out of it because it tells the
- 16:58Speaker 3: whole story. Dave, do you have a link for their
- 17:02Speaker 3: list of names of their eight kids and the contest?
- 17:04Speaker 3: And is the ninth a boy or girl? Listening online
- 17:07Speaker 3: in the stream buffer? Just a little bit? Okay, so
- 17:10Speaker 3: this is the ninth child is a boy? And I
- 17:14Speaker 3: will get this to Bobby Spry and I we will
- 17:18Speaker 3: try to get that answered. A little bit later on.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Bobby's got a head out because we have a live
- 17:23Speaker 3: broadcast on our sister station, The Beat today, So Bobby
- 17:27Speaker 3: was heading out, but I'll try to get an answer
- 17:29Speaker 3: for that for that question to you. Knaw County Commission

- 17:47Speaker 3: Health Initiatives here, Donna, good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 17:50Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me.
- 17:51Speaker 3: I gotta ask you because you see I'm from Logan
- 17:54Speaker 3: County and down there we pronounced it de heart is it?
- 17:58Speaker 3: Would you prefer to heart?
- 18:00Speaker 6: Either way? It's fine. Just always teach me how many
- 18:03Speaker 6: ds are in d e.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Hert d e ee heart exactly? I think we add
- 18:08Speaker 3: a few downside. It becomes the heart the heart.
- 18:11Speaker 6: And that's fine, all right.
- 18:12Speaker 3: That you're here for a very important cause to tell
- 18:15Speaker 3: us about them.
- 18:16Speaker 11: So I'm here representing West Virginia Breast Health Initiative for
- 18:19Speaker 11: our annual Race for the Ribbon that's happening in this
- 18:22Speaker 11: Saturday at the West Virginia State Capitol.
- 18:24Speaker 3: And how many years has this been going on for
- 18:26Speaker 3: us as.
- 18:28Speaker 11: One hundred percent West Virginia organization. We've been doing this
- 18:32Speaker 11: for eight years.
- 18:33Speaker 3: All right? And have you've been involved all years? All
- 18:36Speaker 3: eight years?
- 18:36Speaker 2: Okay?
- 18:37Speaker 3: What is it that makes this event so so popular?
- 18:42Speaker 11: This it's the only fundraiser that we do all year.
- 18:45Speaker 11: It's the one that we put our efforts into. And
- 18:48Speaker 11: it's the one where survivors from five to six even
- 18:53Speaker 11: seven different states join us on Saturday, survivors from over
- 18:56Speaker 11: two hundred different West Virginia communities. We usually have around
- 19:01Speaker 11: one thousand people there and ten percent of those are
- 19:03Speaker 11: breast cancer survivors from all over And also there's a
- 19:07Speaker 11: lot of people that are there honoring people that they've lost,
- 19:12Speaker 11: remembering people that that we've lost in the past few years,
- 19:18Speaker 11: and we miss them every day, so we like to
- 19:21Speaker 11: keep them at the forefront of our Saturday as well.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Talk about breast cancer and breast cancer research. You know,
- 19:29Speaker 3: there was a time, Donna, as you well know, years ago,
- 19:33Speaker 3: decades ago, that somebody said the C word. You said, well,
- 19:37Speaker 3: that's pretty much it, and it's certainly not that way
- 19:41Speaker 3: with any type cancer now, but there's been so many
- 19:43Speaker 3: things that have been done with breast cancer over the years.
- 19:46Speaker 11: Talk about the research, well, I think breast cancer has
- 19:51Speaker 11: come a long way. I know when my grandmother's and
- 19:53Speaker 11: a lot of people's grandmother it was a grandmother's disease.
- 19:56Speaker 11: And back in those days, people just didn't talk about
- 19:59Speaker 11: they didn't talk about breast let alone cancer, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 11: and so breast cancer as a whole just really wasn't
- 20:05Speaker 11: on the table. So now we're trying to get it
- 20:07Speaker 11: to be part of an everyday conversation. Currently in West Virginia,
- 20:13Speaker 11: breast cancer is now as of the last couple of years.
- 20:16Speaker 11: It is the leading cancer that kills West Virginia women
- 20:20Speaker 11: number one. That's what it does, right, And we think
- 20:24Speaker 11: I was talking to somebody yesterday about that, and it
- 20:27Speaker 11: has to be because women are such caregivers and they
- 20:30Speaker 11: take such good care of everybody else that for us
- 20:34Speaker 11: to try to get them to get in and do
- 20:36Speaker 11: something that will help them, like get screened early, I mean,
- 20:39Speaker 11: they just put themselves last.
- 20:43Speaker 6: And early detection is key.
- 20:44Speaker 11: And in West Virginia, on average, in West Virginia, three
- 20:48Speaker 11: hundred and ten women die every single week, now three
- 20:53Speaker 11: you know, this week and next week. I mean, it's
- 20:56Speaker 11: just varies. And that's just those statistics are staggering. And
- 21:00Speaker 11: so early detection, if you get screened early and it
- 21:03Speaker 11: is diagnosed early, you have a ninety five chance of surviving.
- 21:08Speaker 3: That's very important. And and the screenings are very important correct,
- 21:12Speaker 3: And I think it's a very from a psychological standpoint,
- 21:15Speaker 3: it's a very it's it's a very true statement that
- 21:20Speaker 3: you said there is that women. And please don't light
- 21:23Speaker 3: up my tax line here to say I'm being sexist
- 21:25Speaker 3: or anything. I don't mean that. But women, by their
- 21:28Speaker 3: own admission, as you just did, will say that they
- 21:30Speaker 3: tend to be the caregivers. They tend to be the
- 21:32Speaker 3: ones that take care of the kids, to take care
- 21:34Speaker 3: of the families. Anybody that works in the world of
- 21:36Speaker 3: business will tell you that. You know, I don't know.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I've often joked about it. I think about equal pay
- 21:42Speaker 3: and whatever. Women probably get more paid because most of
- 21:45Speaker 3: offices I've been in, women do the majority of the
- 21:48Speaker 3: work and they keep it running. They keep it running.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I know we've got a great staff here, but they
- 21:55Speaker 3: they put their own feelings in the back burner sometimes.
- 21:59Speaker 11: Right, and then it takes you to do the dishes.
- 22:01Speaker 11: Is about the time it takes for you to get
- 22:03Speaker 11: a mamogram. So on Friday night, that being said, we
- 22:07Speaker 11: have a pack of pickup party on Friday night, daved
- 22:10Speaker 11: across the street from PHASEOS and we're gonna have what
- 22:13Speaker 11: it's a where you come and pick up your race packet.
- 22:16Speaker 3: What was the alliteration that you use there, pack a
- 22:18Speaker 3: pickup party, pack a pickup party, Ryan, you got that
- 22:21Speaker 3: pack of pick a party.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Pack a pick Okay, and so you can come and
- 22:25Speaker 6: register for the race.
- 22:26Speaker 11: Uh, you can pick up your race packet for the
- 22:28Speaker 11: Saturday morning and we will have the CAMC mobile mimmography
- 22:32Speaker 11: bus there so you can bring your husband on the
- 22:35Speaker 11: bus and introduce him to the mammogram machine that you
- 22:38Speaker 11: see every year. And people can take tours of the
- 22:42Speaker 11: bus and see that it's not intimidating, it's not scary,
- 22:44Speaker 11: and they can also make appointments with CAMC that day
- 22:48Speaker 11: to be screened later on next week or whenever it's
- 22:51Speaker 11: convenient for them.
- 22:52Speaker 6: So well, they'll all be there on Friday night.
- 22:54Speaker 3: How often should the screenings happen every year?
- 22:58Speaker 12: Every year?
- 22:58Speaker 13: Here?
- 22:58Speaker 3: Is there a certain age that you say, like after
- 23:01Speaker 3: age thirty you should get it once a year? Does
- 23:04Speaker 3: it really matter?
- 23:05Speaker 11: The insurance companies say forty forty? Okay, But we had
- 23:08Speaker 11: a girl two years ago from Point Pleasant who was nineteen.
- 23:11Speaker 11: She was a freshman at Marshall and she was diagnosed
- 23:16Speaker 11: with stage three breast cancer.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So that's interesting because people automatically think it's an older person.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Is an older older lady's's he's and men also get
- 23:26Speaker 3: breast cancer. To do all right, but continue your story
- 23:29Speaker 3: there about the nineteen year old.
- 23:31Speaker 11: But I mean she wasn't know enough to you know,
- 23:33Speaker 11: buy a beer, but she could get two kinds of
- 23:35Speaker 11: breast cancer, and she had to get a mass ectomy,
- 23:37Speaker 11: and she had to get a hysterectomy and all these
- 23:40Speaker 11: things before she's a twenty one years old who right
- 23:42Speaker 11: now she's doing fantastic. She's a great ambassador for us.
- 23:45Speaker 11: She speaks, She goes to high school games, into college games,
- 23:48Speaker 11: and tries to encourage young women to pay attention to
- 23:51Speaker 11: the bodies and don't accept the stigmatism that you have
- 23:56Speaker 11: to be forty years old to feel a lump or
- 23:58Speaker 11: something wrong.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Talking to Donna de Hart again about the big race
- 24:03Speaker 3: that is happening this weekend over we call it a race,
- 24:06Speaker 3: it's I mean, it's not really like a race like
- 24:09Speaker 3: the in the.
- 24:11Speaker 11: Nice Definitely not all I do know and and and
- 24:15Speaker 11: here's the great thing we learned. You know a lot
- 24:18Speaker 11: of people have big intentions. You know, they start at
- 24:20Speaker 11: the Capitol. They're going to walk down to the South
- 24:21Speaker 11: Sidebridge and they're gonna march back. But then again the
- 24:24Speaker 11: halfway down there, and like I don't know about going by.
- 24:26Speaker 11: So we have Kannak County Deputy sheriffs and side by
- 24:30Speaker 11: sides and they pick up pitch hikers. So anybody that
- 24:33Speaker 11: says this was a really bad idea or a survivor
- 24:36Speaker 11: that just doesn't feel like they can make it the
- 24:38Speaker 11: rest of the way back. We have side by sides
- 24:41Speaker 11: and really nice Kanak County sheriffs that will pick up
- 24:44Speaker 11: pitchhikers and take you wherever you need to go, to
- 24:47Speaker 11: your car, to the finish line, whatever you need. Those
- 24:50Speaker 11: county sheriffs, the Kanak County Sheriffs are fantastic, and breast
- 24:55Speaker 11: cancer has definitely impacted them.
- 24:57Speaker 6: I really don't know if a police department does doesn't impact.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Somebody's calling you there. That's all right. Look, I've been
- 25:05Speaker 3: doing this for a lot of years, and I started
- 25:07Speaker 3: the show yesterday by forgetting to turn my phone off.
- 25:09Speaker 3: And I've been doing this for one hundred years.
- 25:11Speaker 6: I could have sworn it. Turn it off.
- 25:12Speaker 3: That's all good. It's all good, Don But Dave Allen

- 25:31Speaker 6: Sponsored Deadline is up, but we are. But yeah, thank you.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Somebody. Somebody wants to make a donation. They're listening to
- 25:37Speaker 3: us right now.
- 25:38Speaker 11: They go to our website at wvbati dot org.
- 25:41Speaker 6: So our tomorrow.
- 25:43Speaker 11: Tomorrow at midnight, which is Thursday, our online registration will
- 25:46Speaker 11: close and then the only way to get registered for
- 25:49Speaker 11: the race on Saturday is come to.
- 25:51Speaker 6: The pack of pickup party.
- 25:52Speaker 11: On Friday, and that is where again, that is one
- 25:55Speaker 11: double O seven Bullet Street across from Phaseo's. The restaurant
- 25:59Speaker 11: will be there from four to seven. You can pick
- 26:01Speaker 11: up your race pocketer or you can register. We'll have
- 26:04Speaker 11: food and music and tailgate and all kinds of pune
- 26:07Speaker 11: stuff and mammogram machine and then seven point thirty on
- 26:11Speaker 11: Saturday morning we open up and you can get registered
- 26:15Speaker 11: seven at seven thirty in the morning.
- 26:16Speaker 6: The race starts at nine.
- 26:18Speaker 11: The opening ceremony is at eight o'clock with our special MC,
- 26:23Speaker 11: Miss Amanda Bearon. I think you've heard the name, I'm aware,
- 26:26Speaker 11: uh huh, and so she'll be there and the survivor
- 26:29Speaker 11: pictures at eight twenty. We want to make sure everybody
- 26:32Speaker 11: gets in the survivor picture with Amanda, and then we
- 26:35Speaker 11: got a little surprise for everybody, So get there early,
- 26:38Speaker 11: let's have fun, and let's celebrate.
- 26:40Speaker 3: These survivors had a texture that says, is there a
- 26:42Speaker 3: cost to tour the mammogram boss? My mother lost her
- 26:45Speaker 3: oldest sister to breast cancer sixty years ago and her
- 26:48Speaker 3: youngest had a double missectomy because of it. I've been
- 26:50Speaker 3: trying to get her to get a mammogram and she refuses.
- 26:53Speaker 3: I think it's apprehension and fear.
- 26:55Speaker 6: Absolutely, that's exactly.
- 26:57Speaker 3: And it is that too, what about the lost of
- 27:00Speaker 3: the mamma.
- 27:00Speaker 6: There is no cost whatsoever.
- 27:02Speaker 11: And here's the other thing most important, and I apologize.
- 27:05Speaker 11: If you need a mammogram and you do not have
- 27:07Speaker 11: insurance or your co pay or whatever, you haven't met
- 27:11Speaker 11: your deductible, we pay for it. The Race for the
- 27:13Speaker 11: Ribbon raises money for us to use all year long
- 27:16Speaker 11: so that we can help women get their mammograms. Or
- 27:19Speaker 11: if you're a breast cancer survivor going through treatments, we
- 27:22Speaker 11: can help you get the co payments, with travel assistance,
- 27:26Speaker 11: with all these things that you need. So and it
- 27:29Speaker 11: is scary to go, but you need to go, and
- 27:35Speaker 11: then you get it done and it's okay, or you've
- 27:37Speaker 11: caught it early.
- 27:39Speaker 3: All right, don I appreciate you and have a good
- 27:43Speaker 3: time on Saturday. Is this a rain or shine event?
- 27:45Speaker 3: Because it looks like there's some scattered rain I think,
- 27:47Speaker 3: But doesn't at this point look like it's gonna be
- 27:50Speaker 3: a thing major if it happens at all.
- 27:52Speaker 11: I agree, And you know what, We've gotten to the
- 27:54Speaker 11: point where we'll say that if these women can go
- 27:57Speaker 11: through multiple surgeries in chemotherapy, yays and guess what.
- 28:01Speaker 3: You can get a little wet we can get with
- 28:02Speaker 3: all right, all right, that ade heart. I appreciate you
- 28:05Speaker 3: being here. The event is this Saturday here in Charleston.

- 32:09Speaker 3: spotlighting success stories on the midday show with organ transplants. Well,
- 32:13Speaker 3: today gonna be one that involves some people that I'm
- 32:18Speaker 3: sure you remember the name Officer Cassie Johnson. Her her
- 32:21Speaker 3: family made sure and she did as well before she
- 32:24Speaker 3: passed that she was an orgon donor. So we're gonna
- 32:26Speaker 3: be joined by Charleston former Charleston officer, Cassie Johnson's mother
- 32:31Speaker 3: and others on the on the show today that is
- 32:33Speaker 3: Metro News mid Day presented by Selango Law with thirteen
- 32:36Speaker 3: News and Tonight Live and Cormanda Baron and me. Now,
- 32:40Speaker 3: speaking of Selango Law, Ben Selango not here as attorney Ben.
- 32:44Speaker 12: Solio County Commission hat.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Yeah, have on your County Commission hats. How you knowing, buddy,
- 32:49Speaker 3: I'm doing great. Which well Dona something didn't me. I mean,
- 32:51Speaker 3: apparently she knows you because she said, she said, is
- 32:55Speaker 3: man here? And I said, he's he's outsideway.
- 32:57Speaker 12: You know what we've sponsored the now putting on the
- 33:00Speaker 12: Selango law hat. We sponsored the uh we sponsored that
- 33:04Speaker 12: race for I mean probably a decade back, even before
- 33:09Speaker 12: it was the Breast Health Initiative, it was the Susan
- 33:12Speaker 12: Coleman and we sponsored it almost every year. And then
- 33:15Speaker 12: we we've sponsored their they do the comedy show. We've hospital, Yeah,
- 33:22Speaker 12: we've we've sponsored that one. But it's it's a great
- 33:24Speaker 12: organization and something we've been very active with for probably
- 33:26Speaker 12: fifteen or twenty years now.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and Amanda is going to be serving as the
- 33:30Speaker 3: MC for the event on Saturday morning.
- 33:31Speaker 12: I have a picture of Aman and I from probably
- 33:33Speaker 12: ten years ago at that event. I used to run
- 33:36Speaker 12: it all the time, back when I ran a lot
- 33:38Speaker 12: more than I do now. But it's always it's a
- 33:41Speaker 12: fun race. I mean, it's always a great turnout and
- 33:44Speaker 12: you know, if you don't, if you're not a runner,
- 33:46Speaker 12: you can show up and walk.
- 33:47Speaker 3: But it's a good cause. And I like the fact
- 33:49Speaker 3: that the Kinawan County Sheriff's Department is a big part
- 33:53Speaker 3: of it as well, and they're they're there to assist
- 33:54Speaker 3: people that maybe need a little help.
- 33:56Speaker 12: They do a lot, you know, Joe Crawford and his team,
- 33:59Speaker 12: they do a lot the community, and that's great to
- 34:01Speaker 12: them that they're going to show up and get people
- 34:04Speaker 12: a ride back to the starting line if they can't.
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, all right, So Capital Sports Center, Yes, sir,
- 34:10Speaker 3: where is it? Yes, sir, you know what we're moving along.
- 34:13Speaker 3: We've was that pretty direct, man.
- 34:15Speaker 12: I like the direct question. So essentially what's happened is
- 34:20Speaker 12: we had the initial design laid out and then prices
- 34:24Speaker 12: are through the roof on construction, and so we moved
- 34:27Speaker 12: the pool aspect of it to what we called a
- 34:30Speaker 12: Phase B, meaning it was going to be a lot
- 34:33Speaker 12: more expensive than we anticipated. You know, we initially thought
- 34:35Speaker 12: the whole project was going to be about eighty million dollars.
- 34:38Speaker 12: The pool itself was going to probably be forty million.
- 34:42Speaker 12: After we realized what was going on with and I've
- 34:45Speaker 12: mentioned this too, many times on the show that when
- 34:48Speaker 12: the aar, when the ARP money started flooding in that
- 34:53Speaker 12: prices on everything went up. When you get contractors basically
- 34:57Speaker 12: get to do whatever they want and charge whatever they want,
- 35:00Speaker 12: so it's it was very difficult. So you usually you
- 35:03Speaker 12: look at like a commercial construction project at three hundred
- 35:06Speaker 12: fifty to four hundred dollars in square foot. This was
- 35:09Speaker 12: going to be substantially higher than that. So we moved
- 35:12Speaker 12: the pool to Phase B, thinking we could then finish
- 35:15Speaker 12: the project without the pool for probably sixty to seventy million.
- 35:19Speaker 12: The basketball courts, the pickleball courts, volleyball, things that will
- 35:23Speaker 12: bring people in and put people in hotels, put them
- 35:26Speaker 12: in restaurants. So we had the funding worked out where
- 35:31Speaker 12: we the city had put in five million dollars city
- 35:33Speaker 12: in the county to each put in five million dollars.
- 35:35Speaker 12: We had we were looking at fifty million dollars in
- 35:38Speaker 12: bonds and then ten million in a congressionally directed spending,
- 35:46Speaker 12: which is fancy word for earmark, and the city had
- 35:49Speaker 12: received seven million dollars of it, which would only leave
- 35:52Speaker 12: a three million dollar piece, And quite frankly, on a
- 35:54Speaker 12: project like that, we didn't think it would be very
- 35:57Speaker 12: difficult to raise three million dollars of corporate money. But
- 36:00Speaker 12: because you've got naming rights for the facility, you've got
- 36:02Speaker 12: naming rights for every court, you've got score boards, you know,
- 36:05Speaker 12: similar to what we did at the Shawnee Sports Complex.
- 36:07Speaker 12: You know, every score board has a corporate name on
- 36:10Speaker 12: that too.
- 36:11Speaker 6: You know, you have to.
- 36:12Speaker 3: And that's just part of it.
- 36:13Speaker 12: You know, Moses Moses came in and they gave us
- 36:17Speaker 12: money to name the building the Moses Building at Shawnee.
- 36:21Speaker 12: The end COOVA formerly Brick Street, gave us one point
- 36:24Speaker 12: five million dollars for naming rights on the facility at Shawnee.
- 36:27Speaker 12: And I think that's I think it was like a
- 36:29Speaker 12: it's either a ten or fifteen year deal at Shawnee,
- 36:31Speaker 12: I can't remember. But so that's kind of what we
- 36:33Speaker 12: were looking at doing. And then and then the city
- 36:37Speaker 12: had received its ear market for seven million dollars. Well,
- 36:40Speaker 12: the budget didn't pass and so the ear mark didn't
- 36:43Speaker 12: go through the budget in DC congressional budget. Yeah, so
- 36:46Speaker 12: you know, when there was the after the November election,
- 36:49Speaker 12: and we were watching it very carefully because we knew
- 36:52Speaker 12: that it was going to come in tight. We still
- 36:53Speaker 12: thought the budget would pass and that that earmark would
- 36:56Speaker 12: be in the budget, and it didn't pass. So now
- 37:00Speaker 12: we're back to looking to figure out how we're going
- 37:04Speaker 12: to get that other seven million dollars. So I think
- 37:06Speaker 12: the city's submitting another request for congressionally directed spending, so
- 37:12Speaker 12: has the county, and hopefully that will come through. But
- 37:14Speaker 12: that kind of set us back a little bit.
- 37:15Speaker 3: And so.
- 37:17Speaker 12: You don't want to start a project with a seven
- 37:20Speaker 12: million dollar gap. I mean, that's just not smart business.
- 37:23Speaker 12: I wouldn't do it in my business. I won't do
- 37:24Speaker 12: it for the county. So we had to wait and
- 37:27Speaker 12: make sure that that funding is in place. We've already
- 37:29Speaker 12: worked out we've talked to our bond council about the bonds,
- 37:33Speaker 12: we've dedicated revenue stream, all these things that could easily
- 37:37Speaker 12: be presented of the County Commission and to City council.
- 37:40Speaker 12: But with that seven million dollar gap, we're on pause.
- 37:44Speaker 3: We're on pause. So what you're saying has been is
- 37:46Speaker 3: that the project is on pause. Right now.
- 37:48Speaker 12: The project's on pause, but we're you know, we're and
- 37:51Speaker 12: I've been using the phrase cautiously optimistic. I hope that
- 37:54Speaker 12: we can still get that seven million dollars in funding.
- 37:58Speaker 12: If we don't, then we're going to have to regroup.
- 38:00Speaker 12: You either scale down the project, which I would hate
- 38:02Speaker 12: to do, or we've got to look for other sources
- 38:05Speaker 12: of revenue. But that's seven million dollars was a critical
- 38:07Speaker 12: piece of the funding and the Capital Sports Complex.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Kanawha County Commission President of Ben Silango of at A
- 38:13Speaker 3: voland show on five Any Line brought to you in

- 38:21Speaker 3: wv metronews dot com of the podcast menu and start
- 38:23Speaker 3: your journey towards better health today. So cautiously optimistic, that's
- 38:29Speaker 3: the word that. What's our time frame here?
- 38:32Speaker 12: Well, we're going to see. So hopefully if we can
- 38:34Speaker 12: get another congressionally directed at spending either to the county
- 38:37Speaker 12: or the city or frankly both, then we'll be back
- 38:41Speaker 12: on track and then we can start the very detailed
- 38:44Speaker 12: drawing ZMM, which does a wonderful job. They would do
- 38:47Speaker 12: the very detailed drawings that we need for their construction.
- 38:51Speaker 12: Those drawings, I would imagine are going to take eight
- 38:54Speaker 12: to twelve months because that's kind of lays everything out,
- 38:58Speaker 12: the blueprints, if you will, that kind of spells it
- 39:01Speaker 12: all out, and then you know, as soon as those
- 39:04Speaker 12: drang as you know, and we can start construction. I
- 39:06Speaker 12: mean we have now a blank slate. I mean, we
- 39:09Speaker 12: bought the Macy's building, tore it down, you know, that's
- 39:11Speaker 12: that's still there, so you know, it's it's one of
- 39:14Speaker 12: those things that I'm hoping that we'll be able to
- 39:16Speaker 12: start soon if we can get that money, and if not,
- 39:19Speaker 12: we're just gonna have to wait. And if we don't
- 39:21Speaker 12: get at this budget, then we're going to apply next budget.
- 39:24Speaker 12: I mean, it's one of the it's not going to
- 39:25Speaker 12: go away. We're just going to keep trying to work
- 39:27Speaker 12: and try to get that funny.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I mean it's been when was this first talk. I
- 39:32Speaker 3: was doing doing little research this morning. Look at it
- 39:35Speaker 3: was a twenty twenty concept was announced in August of
- 39:37Speaker 3: twenty two, if I recall, and then we made a
- 39:42Speaker 3: lot of progress. You know, keep in mind how many
- 39:45Speaker 3: different and I'll put my lawyer hat back on for
- 39:48Speaker 3: a second. This was a very legally complex project because
- 39:54Speaker 3: you've got multiple people that own the land, and you've
- 39:58Speaker 3: got people that own the building, and and you've got
- 40:00Speaker 3: the garages which are owned by different entities, and then
- 40:04Speaker 3: there's legal proceedings between the mall owner and and the
- 40:08Speaker 3: garages and and all this peripheral stuff going on, but
- 40:14Speaker 3: it all effected the Capital Sports Center. We've got a
- 40:17Speaker 3: lot of that has been resolved now, and that took
- 40:21Speaker 3: a lot of effort and a lot of time to
- 40:23Speaker 3: kind of fix that all, and now we're just left with,
- 40:28Speaker 3: you know, a blank slate that we need to build
- 40:30Speaker 3: on and hopefully we'll be able to get that seven
- 40:32Speaker 3: million dollars and move forward. Now, the other problem is
- 40:36Speaker 3: you really have to watch this. The tariffs have increased
- 40:40Speaker 3: the cost of steel, both foreign and domestic, and so
- 40:43Speaker 3: we've got to make sure that we can still bring
- 40:45Speaker 3: it in within the budget that we had proposed with
- 40:50Speaker 3: with the tariffs and that you know that comes and goes.
- 40:52Speaker 3: That's not a I.
- 40:53Speaker 12: Think that's more of a short term issue. And so
- 40:56Speaker 12: by the time that construction drawings are done and we've
- 40:58Speaker 12: truly put it out the bid, I still think we
- 41:01Speaker 12: can come in within budget. But that's also something that
- 41:03Speaker 12: we're watching. You know, if you get if the price
- 41:06Speaker 12: of steel goes up five to ten percent, which I
- 41:07Speaker 12: think is kind of where it is right now. That's
- 41:10Speaker 12: a lot of money on a seventy million dollars project.
- 41:12Speaker 12: Sure it's a lot of steel.
- 41:14Speaker 3: It is. It is a lot of steel. But Dave

- 41:33Speaker 3: read some text us here? All right, Texas, why doesn't
- 41:35Speaker 3: the county develop the Coonskin Park pool area for the
- 41:38Speaker 3: swimming pool scenario rather than incorporate it into the town
- 41:41Speaker 3: center property.
- 41:41Speaker 12: You know, we'd looked at that Coonskin project we had
- 41:44Speaker 12: This has probably been about six or seven years ago.
- 41:48Speaker 12: We looked at doming the putting a big dome over
- 41:53Speaker 12: the Coonskin Pool. The problem was that and then you
- 41:57Speaker 12: can make it a year round. The problem is then
- 41:59Speaker 12: you have a dome over it in the summer, and
- 42:02Speaker 12: so it's not an indoor it's not an indoor pool.
- 42:04Speaker 12: It would just be an outdoor pool with a dome
- 42:06Speaker 12: on it. And we looked at that. Then it wasn't
- 42:08Speaker 12: Olympic size, it's not fifty meter, it didn't have enough lanes,
- 42:12Speaker 12: and so then you know, the question would be do
- 42:15Speaker 12: you want to do it just partially right or do
- 42:17Speaker 12: you want to come back and build something that is right.
- 42:20Speaker 12: And that's kind of why we leaned against it. And
- 42:22Speaker 12: I know the Parks Board looked at that. Gosh, I
- 42:26Speaker 12: think this is back when Hoppy Shores was on on
- 42:29Speaker 12: the commission. They looked at that, and Commissioner Carper and
- 42:34Speaker 12: I looked at that and decided not to dome the
- 42:36Speaker 12: pool because we thought that it would be just a
- 42:41Speaker 12: partial fix. It wouldn't really accomplish what we needed to
- 42:43Speaker 12: accomplish well. And I think the whole idea behind this too.
- 42:45Speaker 3: With all due respect to Coonskin and Coonskin and Shanny
- 42:48Speaker 3: and all these things are their wonderful facilities. However, it
- 42:51Speaker 3: was from day one designed to be downtown, and that
- 42:54Speaker 3: was and to be able to draw from the all
- 42:56Speaker 3: the activities that are going on at the Kyloseum of
- 42:58Speaker 3: Convention Center. I mean any given can. It's not just
- 43:02Speaker 3: concerts and tractor pulls and whatever. There's a lot of
- 43:04Speaker 3: things going on that don't get a lot of airtime
- 43:06Speaker 3: because it's there's always cheerleading competitions or band competitions and stuff,
- 43:10Speaker 3: and there's a lot of and you know, in the
- 43:11Speaker 3: sports travel business will say this and we'll go to break.
- 43:14Speaker 3: There's a lot of hurry up and wait, you know,
- 43:16Speaker 3: and when people are awaiting, you know, they wrap up
- 43:19Speaker 3: a competition at eleven in the morning and they don't
- 43:21Speaker 3: they don't play or compete or whatever again till four
- 43:23Speaker 3: in the afternoon or sometimes the next day. They got
- 43:25Speaker 3: to do something. They're not going to drive back to Wheeling,
- 43:28Speaker 3: you know, spend the money.
- 43:29Speaker 12: You know, we've worked with actually some of the rafting
- 43:33Speaker 12: companies down at the Golly where if we have soccer
- 43:36Speaker 12: teams that come in and they only play one game,
- 43:38Speaker 12: we can we can actually bust them down to the
- 43:39Speaker 12: Golly and they can go rafting for the app.
- 43:42Speaker 3: That's good stuff right there.
- 43:42Speaker 12: You know, there's a lot, there's a lot going on
- 43:45Speaker 12: that that we've been able to accomplish, uh with with
- 43:48Speaker 12: sports tourism. And you know, at the s Hinese Sports complex. This,
- 43:53Speaker 12: if we can accomplish it will actually be bigger than that.

- 46:21Speaker 3: for the sports complex. It has the floor plan blueprints
- 46:24Speaker 3: and let the public put their suggestions in it on
- 46:27Speaker 3: the page and maybe where, maybe, maybe maybe where it
- 46:31Speaker 3: should be in the layout. You'd have all the info
- 46:33Speaker 3: one convenient spot for everyone. Not a bad idea, but
- 46:35Speaker 3: we're not there yet.
- 46:37Speaker 12: Well the problem is then you know we're gonna have
- 46:39Speaker 12: people from Albuquerque, New Mexico commenting. I mean, I want
- 46:43Speaker 12: it to be locals, and that's why we did it.
- 46:45Speaker 12: We did a bunch of meetings. We had people come in,
- 46:48Speaker 12: you know, early on, we did I think it was
- 46:51Speaker 12: five or six different community meetings and listen to different
- 46:55Speaker 12: groups of people, different folks. We had all kinds of
- 46:58Speaker 12: coaches come in, basketball, volleyball, everybody came in and we
- 47:03Speaker 12: took it from there. You're also welcome to email us
- 47:06Speaker 12: anytime you want. I mean, the plans have kind of
- 47:08Speaker 12: been out on Facebook and I think even on YouTube
- 47:11Speaker 12: for about three two and a half to three.
- 47:13Speaker 3: But the plans vary because I mean, you could put
- 47:16Speaker 3: something out there today and it's going to change if
- 47:19Speaker 3: this budget, you know, if we get the money, and
- 47:22Speaker 3: then if it doesn't, that's going to change.
- 47:25Speaker 12: So well, when we were kind of scaling it back
- 47:27Speaker 12: after we moved the pool to Phase B, when we
- 47:30Speaker 12: were scaling back the basketball volleyball, part of it was
- 47:34Speaker 12: it was hard to cut anything else out and for
- 47:37Speaker 12: it to still be an effective economic driver in the community.
- 47:41Speaker 12: So you're always welcome to email the commission or email
- 47:44Speaker 12: the city with your suggestions about what should be in there.
- 47:47Speaker 12: I promise you we've read every single one. But we
- 47:49Speaker 12: did that early on and did our community meetings and
- 47:53Speaker 12: got a lot of input from the community, positive and negative.
- 47:56Speaker 3: Okay negative. Texa says Charleston is a to pay forty
- 48:00Speaker 3: million dollars for just to pool. Okay, thanks. Tex says
- 48:08Speaker 3: this whole sports complex was an unrealistic pipe dream from
- 48:11Speaker 3: the get go. More big promises from local leaders never
- 48:14Speaker 3: came to fruition. I think it's a very unfair statement.
- 48:16Speaker 12: Well, you know what, I understand that's some perception. There's
- 48:19Speaker 12: probably a little bit of politics involved in that perception,
- 48:22Speaker 12: but the truth is we have we're still moving forward
- 48:26Speaker 12: the project. Hopefully it will come to fruition. I heard
- 48:28Speaker 12: the same kind of negative stuff when we taught when
- 48:31Speaker 12: we did the Shawnee Sports Complex. I mean we were getting,
- 48:34Speaker 12: you know, people saying that it was not going to happen,
- 48:36Speaker 12: there was no way we could get it done within
- 48:38Speaker 12: a year, and they were right. I got it done
- 48:40Speaker 12: in eleven months. So it's the same stuff.
- 48:43Speaker 3: And drive by there on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon
- 48:46Speaker 3: right now and tell them that nobody's going to go there.
- 48:48Speaker 12: Yeah, it's packed every It's packed every weekend. And you know,
- 48:51Speaker 12: on Sundays we just have basically this community soccer leagues
- 48:55Speaker 12: that are there, and we probably have five to eight
- 48:57Speaker 12: thousand people there every Sunday.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Five to eight thousand people on a Sunday.
- 49:02Speaker 12: Yeah, you can't find a parking spot. In fact, we're
- 49:04Speaker 12: looking to actually add parking on both the baseball side
- 49:07Speaker 12: and the soccer football side. But yeah, I mean, I
- 49:09Speaker 12: mean I get those comments, and it's I think to
- 49:13Speaker 12: say that it's, uh, it was an unrealistic thing is
- 49:18Speaker 12: not true. And if you look how much progress we
- 49:20Speaker 12: made by the way that sports Board still owns that land.
- 49:24Speaker 12: I mean, they bought the Macy's building. And I wish
- 49:27Speaker 12: that person that just texted it and would have been
- 49:29Speaker 12: involved in some of those early meetings where we were
- 49:31Speaker 12: trying to get get it all together, you know, like
- 49:34Speaker 12: meeting with them all owners, and meeting with Kira, and
- 49:37Speaker 12: meeting with the bond holders, which were thorn in my
- 49:40Speaker 12: side from the beginning. I wish they'd have been a
- 49:42Speaker 12: little fly on the wall to hear some of that,
- 49:44Speaker 12: and I think that would have changed their view.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Then you and I've talked about this before. People do
- 49:49Speaker 3: not realize what a big business sports tourism is. Well
- 49:52Speaker 3: it's I mean, and I got the same thing when
- 49:55Speaker 3: I've on off on a little rant not long ago,
- 49:57Speaker 3: people saying about hotels. We don't need more hotel Why
- 49:59Speaker 3: do we need more hotels in Charleston.
- 50:01Speaker 12: Well, because anytime we have an event at Shawnee, we
- 50:05Speaker 12: sell out every hotel within a two hour.
- 50:07Speaker 3: Radius of Charleston.
- 50:08Speaker 12: Yeah, exactly, And we can and if you do have Facebook,
- 50:11Speaker 12: you can see that yourself. Find find the Capitol, the
- 50:15Speaker 12: WFC Capitol Cup, any of these big tournaments, the US
- 50:19Speaker 12: Soccer tournaments that we have in and try to book
- 50:22Speaker 12: a hotel within a two hour radius of Charleston, West Virginia.
- 50:25Speaker 12: I challenge you to do that.
- 50:26Speaker 3: I had Chris Tatum on the Afternoon Show, the mayor
- 50:29Speaker 3: of Barbersville, and he said, and it's the same with
- 50:32Speaker 3: Barbersville with their sports complex, which you guys work a
- 50:34Speaker 3: lot with with Shawnee. I mean, for an event at
- 50:38Speaker 3: Shawnee or Barbersville, be lucky to get a hotel in Galipolice,
- 50:41Speaker 3: Ohio or the Chief Logan Conference Center.
- 50:43Speaker 12: That's right, that's right. And we were, you know, one
- 50:46Speaker 12: of the last USU Soccer ones that we did at Shawnee,
- 50:48Speaker 12: we were selling hotels in flat woods, flat woods, flatwoods.
- 50:52Speaker 12: So and you don't want that when people come to
- 50:55Speaker 12: West Virginia. You don't want them to have to drive
- 50:57Speaker 12: an hour and a half, no to get to the game.
- 50:59Speaker 12: You want them to be able to stay closer. Now,
- 51:01Speaker 12: the problem is we need more of those massive tournaments.
- 51:06Speaker 12: We just don't have the capacity for them. We really don't,
- 51:09Speaker 12: all right. But you know, and by the way, Barbersville
- 51:11Speaker 12: has done a great job with their field. We work
- 51:13Speaker 12: together all the time. When they turf some of their fields,
- 51:15Speaker 12: I think they turf three. We still do not have
- 51:17Speaker 12: enough turf soccer fields in the area. I'm going to
- 51:20Speaker 12: end with this one. So Lango should be our governor.
- 51:22Speaker 12: He will be in four years. You can bet your
- 51:24Speaker 12: life on that.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate that.
- 51:26Speaker 6: I don't know, so.
- 51:29Speaker 3: I'm enjoying my time on the commission. All right, all right,
- 51:31Speaker 3: that's a good way to leave it. TJ. Meadows is
- 51:33Speaker 3: here to give us a little preview of talk line.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Let's just tear it down and leave a bunch of
- 51:37Speaker 3: rocks over there. That's what we want. Let's just have exacturate, one.
- 51:39Speaker 12: Piece of vacant property. Let you know, just do that,
- 51:41Speaker 12: you know, for endertain of the kidneys. Just go in
- 51:42Speaker 12: there and throw rocks at each other. That's a sport.
- 51:46Speaker 3: That's the way we did it.
- 51:48Speaker 17: I gre up.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Yeah, but the scars to prove it, we had the creek,
- 51:51Speaker 3: you know. So all right, what do you got on
- 51:54Speaker 3: the show today? Buddy?
- 51:55Speaker 13: Coming up today on the show, Chris Miller, former Canada
- 51:58Speaker 13: for governor, joins us.
- 51:59Speaker 3: We'll talk about tariffs on the eye.
- 52:00Speaker 13: Ido industry, liberty, veteran Capito Capito political commentator. She's got
- 52:04Speaker 13: a piece at the Hill dot Com talking about Cole.
- 52:06Speaker 13: She joins us Mike Nolton on the Morgantown Camping Band,
- 52:09Speaker 13: Jarrett Halprin from Fox News Radio on Washington on Trump,
- 52:12Speaker 13: that and so much much more.
- 52:14Speaker 3: All right, Commissioner Commissioned President Vnslango, appreciate you being her master.
- 52:18Speaker 3: I thinks a lot. Meadows and Wilson coming up at
- 52:20Speaker 3: talk about ten oh six. Amanda and I will be
- 52:22Speaker 3: on with Metro News Midday powered by Selango Law coming
- 52:25Speaker 3: up just after ten after twelve. Their show's ten min's twelve.
- 52:29Speaker 3: All right, get that right, Dave, no notes in front
- 52:31Speaker 3: of me, see you the huntil they have fun. I

- 52:47Speaker 2: HSAM ninety six point five. That then Charleston one oh
- 52:49Speaker 2: four point five Cross Lane w VRC Media Station. We're
