- 0:02We are back and better than ever.
- 0:05Wadapalooza's over.
- 0:07The Open's over.
- 0:09What's next?
- 0:10Let's find out.
- 0:22I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:23and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:25I always take what I want,
- 0:26and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:28Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:30Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:31I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:32Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:34Now wake up!
- 0:35It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:38Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:40friend to me.
- 0:41It's not working out,
- 0:42maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:43It's time to break up so I can
- 0:45make a better me.
- 0:50It's lunch time!
- 0:52what is going on everybody welcome to
- 0:54lunch with the clydesdale and uh
- 0:59Coming at you live for lunchtime.
- 1:01Good to see you all.
- 1:04We got Meredith in the chat saying, hey,
- 1:06hey.
- 1:07We got Helson saying,
- 1:09coming from Lucy Show to Sevan's Lucy Show
- 1:13to lunchtime.
- 1:13What a beautiful day.
- 1:17Joseph Ramirez learned how to count.
- 1:20He did.
- 1:21And Jody.
- 1:23Jody,
- 1:24apparently nobody's buying some cabinets
- 1:26right now, so she can be with us.
- 1:30And we got CrossFit asking how I'm
- 1:32feeling.
- 1:34I'm actually feeling really good today and
- 1:36yesterday.
- 1:37I've been feeling pretty good.
- 1:38The weekend was, I'm not going to lie,
- 1:40got a little depressed over the news last
- 1:42week of the AFib stuff.
- 1:44But cardiologist called me yesterday
- 1:48and...
- 1:50set me up an appointment for next Tuesday,
- 1:54but said they're going to try to get
- 1:55me a cancellation,
- 1:56which happened right before we came on the
- 1:59air today.
- 2:00And so Thursday, speaking of Thursday,
- 2:08we're going to go to the cardiologist at
- 2:10two p.m.
- 2:11Eastern time on Thursday to find out what
- 2:14next steps are for everything that's going
- 2:17on.
- 2:18So that's where we're at.
- 2:19Quick update.
- 2:20And speaking of Thursday,
- 2:22what better segue than Thursday Thursday
- 2:25is to tell you that the open's over.
- 2:29Now it's time to recover.
- 2:31Time to relax, get some sleep,
- 2:34get ready for quarterfinals.
- 2:35If you hit that top twenty five percent.
- 2:38And use code Jazzy at checkout to get
- 2:42fifteen percent off.
- 2:43If you didn't order before today,
- 2:45you missed out on twenty five percent off.
- 2:48We told you.
- 2:49We told you.
- 2:51But you can still get fifteen percent off
- 2:52now.
- 2:54So check that out.
- 2:57Nothing is accidental, Joseph.
- 2:59Yeah.
- 3:01Nothing is accidental, Joseph.
- 3:02It's all intentional.
- 3:03We don't believe in accidents around here,
- 3:05Joseph.
- 3:06Missed you too, Jay Birch.
- 3:08Work just was insanity yesterday.
- 3:12I was out Friday.
- 3:13Had to come back to a buttload of
- 3:15emails.
- 3:15Had to update a ton of stuff.
- 3:19Jody says, we're kidding.
- 3:21She's quoting four huge kitchens as we
- 3:24speak.
- 3:26Multitasking.
- 3:28Andrew Hiller claims nobody can multitask.
- 3:32He can't multitask.
- 3:34That dude is like a dog with a
- 3:36car.
- 3:36You understand?
- 3:38I kind of agree with him though.
- 3:40Like my wife cannot watch a movie without
- 3:44a tablet or a phone in front of
- 3:45her.
- 3:47And I do not have any of that
- 3:48in front of me when I'm watching a
- 3:50movie.
- 3:51I want to watch it and suck it
- 3:56all in, right?
- 3:57And she,
- 4:01I feel like this is becoming the complain
- 4:02about my wife thing,
- 4:03but I love her to death.
- 4:05But she then asks me, well,
- 4:08why did they do that?
- 4:09Well,
- 4:09didn't you see like two scenes ago when
- 4:13so-and-so did this to so-and-so?
- 4:16Oh.
- 4:18And so I'm like,
- 4:19if you just put the tablet down,
- 4:21you wouldn't have to ask me the plot
- 4:22lines.
- 4:24My wife isn't that bad with the tablets,
- 4:26but she will.
- 4:27Like last night,
- 4:28we were watching the newest episode of
- 4:31Paradise.
- 4:33And she snuggled in next to me on
- 4:35the couch and was out within the first
- 4:38ten minutes of the episode.
- 4:40It was fantastic.
- 4:41And she wakes up and she looks at
- 4:42me and she goes,
- 4:43I have no idea what happened.
- 4:44I'm like, I know.
- 4:51Oh, that's me.
- 4:52I'm on IMDb throughout the whole movie
- 4:54sharing facts about the actors.
- 4:57I will say that is me, Jody.
- 4:59I will jump on my phone to IMDb
- 5:01and say,
- 5:02I know that person from somewhere.
- 5:04Where the hell do I know them from?
- 5:07And then I have to check on IMDb
- 5:08to see
- 5:13I'll do that a lot too.
- 5:14Like I know I've seen this cat before
- 5:16and I cannot figure out where it's from.
- 5:17And it's going to bug the crap out
- 5:20of me until I figure it out.
- 5:22Yeah.
- 5:23And one of my favorite people in the
- 5:24whole wide world, Jess, what's going on?
- 5:28We love you, Jess.
- 5:29We miss you, Jess.
- 5:31Glad to see you.
- 5:33Yeah.
- 5:33But other than IMDB,
- 5:34I do not pick up my phone during...
- 5:37during a movie or and then invariably my
- 5:40daughter calls with five minutes left of
- 5:43anything we're watching like right at the
- 5:46climax of the movie television show
- 5:50sporting event whatever it is it's like
- 5:53she has a sensor says gotta call the
- 5:57the parents right now
- 6:01John Wick is fixing to do his last
- 6:05murder-death-kill.
- 6:07And then... Son of a... It is non-stop.
- 6:12And it's always FaceTime.
- 6:14So it's broadcast out for us all to
- 6:17hear.
- 6:18And I can't listen to both things going
- 6:20on at the same time.
- 6:21John McClane is about to drop Hans Gruber
- 6:25off the thirty-second floor at Nakatomi
- 6:27Plaza.
- 6:27Exactly.
- 6:28Exactly.
- 6:30son of a...
- 6:32Or it's a teenage movie and you've just
- 6:34been sobbing.
- 6:37Yeah.
- 6:38I will remember the Titans.
- 6:46Joseph, if my daughter calls,
- 6:49my wife will never let it go to
- 6:51voicemail.
- 6:54Never, ever.
- 6:55Straight to jail.
- 6:57Straight to jail.
- 6:59Mama bear will never let that happen.
- 7:05Uh,
- 7:05so a lot of people were asking Andrew
- 7:07Sten about if he ever got dried off.
- 7:10Because, man, Miami was awful.
- 7:15Holy smokes.
- 7:16I felt for them.
- 7:16I can't imagine.
- 7:18And, look,
- 7:20they were talking about it yesterday or
- 7:22today, whatever,
- 7:23people asking for their money back because
- 7:28half their event got rained out and
- 7:30whatnot.
- 7:31It's Miami.
- 7:33It's Southern Florida in general, dude.
- 7:34We went to the Keys last year for
- 7:35a weekend,
- 7:36and it rained on us five separate times
- 7:38while we were down there.
- 7:40No,
- 7:40I'm supposed to try to get my money
- 7:42back from a bicycle rental guy that I
- 7:45ride bikes around?
- 7:45No.
- 7:47It rains.
- 7:49When you're in business school,
- 7:51like I was back when we were writing
- 7:53on stone tablets,
- 7:56you have to take business law.
- 7:58And in that,
- 7:59you learn about this theory of assumption
- 8:01of risk.
- 8:03Absolutely.
- 8:03And if there is an assumption of risk,
- 8:06it kind of gives the entity an out.
- 8:10Like if you go to a baseball game,
- 8:13there's an assumption of risk that you
- 8:14could get hit with a baseball or a
- 8:18bat, right?
- 8:19Yeah.
- 8:20If you've ever watched Waterpalooza on a
- 8:23stream,
- 8:25you know that there is an assumption of
- 8:28risk that it is going to rain.
- 8:30Pick a year, any year.
- 8:34And with that,
- 8:36when you sign up and you pay the
- 8:37entry fee,
- 8:38there's an assumption of risk that it's
- 8:41going to rain.
- 8:44And there is a chance that it could
- 8:47cancel some of your events as it has
- 8:50done in years past.
- 8:55So you have to know that when you
- 8:59sign up for that.
- 9:03I'm sure it's in the paperwork that
- 9:04everybody glosses over,
- 9:05scrolls through just to get to the bottom
- 9:07so you can accept it.
- 9:09It's written in there somewhere.
- 9:11I can promise you it is.
- 9:12Most of them nowadays also have an option
- 9:14for like two dollars and fifty cents to
- 9:17get your money back if something happens.
- 9:20But that's before.
- 9:20But you have to figure that out before
- 9:21you actually go.
- 9:23Hey,
- 9:23if I can't show up because I'm hurt,
- 9:25I'm injured,
- 9:27my plane exploded before I take off,
- 9:29whatever,
- 9:29I'm going to get my registration feedback.
- 9:32But you have to do that beforehand.
- 9:38Jesus Christ, Jess is saying in there,
- 9:40it could be worse.
- 9:41It could have been thirty inches of snow
- 9:43from a blizzard passing through.
- 9:46Rain?
- 9:47It's wet and it's windy.
- 9:48Okay, cool.
- 9:49You're still in South Beach.
- 9:51I can't even imagine just getting thirty
- 9:53inches of snow.
- 9:54We got an inch and I was pissed.
- 9:56Right.
- 9:57Like, it's supposed to be over, people.
- 10:03Chattanooga asked,
- 10:05think the open was ever hosted again at
- 10:07Waterpalooza?
- 10:08Not that it's their fault.
- 10:10It just made it a bit more difficult
- 10:11for people doing it.
- 10:13And Stan came back and said, never.
- 10:16That screwed up so much because of the
- 10:18number of people needed to run that stage.
- 10:22And with all the delays,
- 10:24all those heat times had to get screwed
- 10:26up.
- 10:28And then you add in the fifty dollar
- 10:30drop in fees.
- 10:32Like, good Lord, people.
- 10:34The fifty dollar drop in fee I thought
- 10:36was absolutely bananas.
- 10:38And I get it.
- 10:39They don't want just anybody coming in,
- 10:40so they're going to jack it up because
- 10:42I'm sure it's not that when Waterpalooza
- 10:44is not going on and the Open is
- 10:46not that weekend,
- 10:47it's probably not a fifty dollar fee.
- 10:49So they're trying to knock down just a
- 10:51sheer amount of people that be coming in
- 10:53there.
- 10:53Right.
- 10:54It's like,
- 10:54what do we do to keep a lot
- 10:56of people out?
- 10:57Make it fifty bucks for the weekend.
- 11:00People were probably complaining,
- 11:00thinking it was an opportunistic thing.
- 11:02Oh,
- 11:02we're going to make money off these
- 11:03people.
- 11:03But I think the opposite is true,
- 11:05is that they were trying to keep just
- 11:08a ridiculous amount of people just from
- 11:10just coming and banging on in through the
- 11:12door.
- 11:14So Andrew asked,
- 11:15who charged fifty dollars?
- 11:16I don't know the gym.
- 11:18It's in Lucy Campbell's behind the scenes.
- 11:21She got charged fifty dollars to drop in.
- 11:24The same place Taylor and Bryson went.
- 11:28And eventually they did refund her money.
- 11:31But the crazy thing about that is if
- 11:35Lucy Campbell drops into your gym,
- 11:36the photos you can get to promote your
- 11:38gym is worth more than the fifty dollars
- 11:41she paid.
- 11:43Just have to be smart, people.
- 11:45Yeah.
- 11:47Just go ahead and get her to stand
- 11:48in front of your logo somewhere and take
- 11:50a couple of pictures.
- 11:51Ortega,
- 11:52the fees were waived if you went to
- 11:55do twenty six point three on Sunday.
- 11:59This happened before Wadapalooza kicked
- 12:02off.
- 12:02She had dropped into train like right
- 12:05before it happened.
- 12:11Um.
- 12:16Yes, I am assuming people are smart.
- 12:18I'm not assuming that, David Reed.
- 12:20I am not.
- 12:22I work for the state of Ohio.
- 12:23I know people are not smart.
- 12:26I deal with the public every day.
- 12:29I'm not even talking about the public.
- 12:30I'm talking about my coworkers.
- 12:32No, I know.
- 12:33I got a couple like that too,
- 12:34but for the most part,
- 12:35I deal with the public every day,
- 12:38and they are blindingly stupid.
- 12:41I hate to say that because I'm part
- 12:42of the public, but it's a fact.
- 12:48Anyway.
- 12:50So there was that.
- 12:51Waterpalooza went off this week.
- 12:55We also had.
- 12:57Twenty six point three finishing up.
- 12:59Yes, sir.
- 13:01You sent me something that showed your
- 13:05vast improvement from twenty six point one
- 13:08to twenty six point three.
- 13:11Yeah.
- 13:11I'm going to try to pull it up
- 13:12real quick.
- 13:13See if you can show it.
- 13:16So while you're doing that,
- 13:18as far as twenty six point three is
- 13:19concerned,
- 13:20shout out to Joseph Ramirez and Will
- 13:22Plummer for doing theirs live on Glinton's
- 13:24channel.
- 13:26And I got to be there for both
- 13:29of them, actually.
- 13:31And Joseph beat me on this on his
- 13:33initial.
- 13:34And I went back and did it again
- 13:35last night after watching him go and
- 13:38watching Will go and had a better strategy
- 13:42and got a better result.
- 13:43If you can do better, do better.
- 13:48This is wild,
- 13:49if anybody's looking at this.
- 13:52Walk us through.
- 13:53This is wild work.
- 13:54So,
- 13:55this is our first in a very long
- 14:00time.
- 14:00We did intramural open at the gym.
- 14:03Everybody got drafted on the teams.
- 14:04And as a part of that,
- 14:06doing Friday Night Lights,
- 14:07we did –
- 14:09uh head-to-head coaches versus coaches
- 14:11right so the first week i went against
- 14:13brent and i got sucked into a race
- 14:16with him very very early on and did
- 14:19not run my race i am better than
- 14:21that by a fair margin
- 14:25the what sucks is that because of that
- 14:30because you know intensity level i got
- 14:31blah blah whatever you know pick a thing
- 14:34that i messed up on there's plenty of
- 14:36them uh my chronically tight it bands went
- 14:39to pull it on my knee and it
- 14:41was just too much you know i wasn't
- 14:43gonna have a chance to hurt myself worse
- 14:45to to redo it so my score was
- 14:48my score whatever
- 14:50Move on to twenty six point two.
- 14:52I also did I did I did do
- 14:53that one twice.
- 14:55Did second worst on my second try.
- 14:56So we roll with the first one.
- 14:58Wasn't mad about that one.
- 15:00That's just where I am wondering muscle
- 15:01ups under fatigue right now.
- 15:03It's getting it's a hell of a lot
- 15:05better than it was three years ago.
- 15:07So I got that and then went ahead
- 15:11and did twenty six point three again head
- 15:13to head Friday.
- 15:15me and Aaron were going he and I
- 15:16were very very close as far as fitness
- 15:18levels are concerned um and I was ahead
- 15:22of him about six or seven reps the
- 15:24whole time and just kind of I don't
- 15:27want to say put it on cruise control
- 15:28but like I was content with that because
- 15:30in my head I'm like yes I should
- 15:32be beating this guy as far as this
- 15:34you know so throw us a workout looked
- 15:36at it feel pretty good about it actually
- 15:38Friday after I got done and then as
- 15:40the weekend went on I was like
- 15:43So I texted Brandon and said,
- 15:45am I crazy to think about doing this
- 15:47again?
- 15:47And he didn't even answer that.
- 15:48He just said, do it again.
- 15:50And I said, okay.
- 15:52So went back yesterday afternoon.
- 15:55Friday,
- 15:56I did all my thrusters unbroken as long
- 15:58as I could.
- 16:02Both sets of ninety five, I did unbroken.
- 16:04The first set of one fifteen,
- 16:05I did unbroken.
- 16:06And then the second set of one fifteen,
- 16:08I broke either seven five or eight four.
- 16:10I really don't remember.
- 16:12And then only got through the first set
- 16:14of cleans at one thirty five.
- 16:16So yesterday I went back and broke the
- 16:19thrusters from the get go.
- 16:20Seven five the entire way.
- 16:23The second weight change and the third
- 16:26weight change I did change one plate six
- 16:29burpees change one plate six burpees Just
- 16:32to kind of help keep my heart rate
- 16:33down a little bit that plus,
- 16:35you know Holding the thrusters unbroken
- 16:37and I was a little bit more disciplined
- 16:38on the cleans and I got thirteen more
- 16:40reps.
- 16:41So It was pretty sweet.
- 16:44I was pretty excited about that one I
- 16:45watched my so I put my score in
- 16:47Friday and like,
- 16:48you know Friday not a people don't put
- 16:51their scores in blah blah,
- 16:52whatever and
- 16:54they hold on joan jenkins tuning in had
- 16:57to tune in since we have ty on
- 17:00the thumbnail today yeah ty killed it at
- 17:04water palooza last week yeah that's him
- 17:07he's on the come yeah he's moving uh
- 17:12anyway yeah
- 17:14Was a little bit more disciplined on the
- 17:15cleans.
- 17:16Still did singles the whole way through.
- 17:17Seven and five on the thrusters.
- 17:20And was able to keep my burpees at
- 17:23the same pace where I didn't, you know,
- 17:25I dropped off a whole lot less and
- 17:27made it all the way through the burpees
- 17:31and got one thruster at a one thirty
- 17:34five with
- 17:37I think I had ten seconds whenever I
- 17:38picked the barbell up,
- 17:39got up to be able to pick the
- 17:40barbell up.
- 17:41So if I'd had two more seconds,
- 17:43I probably could have got a mellow
- 17:44thruster, but it is what it is.
- 17:45I'm not mad at it.
- 17:46Friday, I put it in initially.
- 17:49It was good for thirtieth,
- 17:50and then just kind of watched it tumble
- 17:52down the leaderboard over the weekend and
- 17:54then redid it last night,
- 17:56and now it's good for thirty-fourth.
- 17:57So, yeah.
- 17:59Were he satisfied with that?
- 18:01Yes, Jenny.
- 18:03So for you people younger than me,
- 18:06I know it sounds bad,
- 18:09but we used to say when there was
- 18:10a young athlete on his way up,
- 18:13you would say they're on the come.
- 18:16Like they're on the come up.
- 18:19But yeah,
- 18:20so it was meant in that vein.
- 18:24Translation to the younger generation.
- 18:27Let me answer this one, Mr.
- 18:31Doug Reed there.
- 18:34Doug says,
- 18:35why redo if you're going to make quarters
- 18:36regardless?
- 18:37Because Will Plummer put it pretty
- 18:40eloquently yesterday is that this is the
- 18:43one time of year where you get a
- 18:46five-day window basically from Thursday
- 18:48all the way through Monday.
- 18:50To test and then maybe retest and to
- 18:52see if a better strategy is going to
- 18:53work better or if that's really where
- 18:56you're at.
- 18:56And, you know, as far as that's concerned,
- 18:58I'm not the guy that's going to do
- 18:59them four times over a weekend because I'm
- 19:01not completely insane,
- 19:03but my coach feels the same way.
- 19:05Like,
- 19:05Yeah,
- 19:06I know I was going to make quarters
- 19:07regardless.
- 19:07I could have done a lot less, honestly,
- 19:11and still make quarterfinals,
- 19:13but I'm not here for that.
- 19:14I'm here to put myself to the test
- 19:16and see exactly what I'm capable of,
- 19:18and I need to keep proving that to
- 19:20myself, not to anybody else,
- 19:23to get my mindset ready for when I
- 19:25do hit quarters next weekend and be able
- 19:27to put my best foot forward and try
- 19:28to qualify for a spot to compete in
- 19:31person because that's what I really want
- 19:33to do this year.
- 19:36At least John George has my back.
- 19:37It's also on a craps table.
- 19:38It's a good bet.
- 19:42So with that,
- 19:45let's go to the overall leaderboard.
- 19:48So here we have the top of the
- 19:51open leaderboard unofficially.
- 19:54Colton Mertens will get the win.
- 19:56He has a big lead.
- 19:57It would take something catastrophic.
- 20:01for him to fall out of that.
- 20:02Peter Ellis with the second place.
- 20:04Jeff Adler, third.
- 20:06Yonikoski in a tie for fourth with Nika
- 20:10Maserati?
- 20:11Maserazzi?
- 20:13Click on that.
- 20:13Let me see.
- 20:14That's what I think that is.
- 20:16Can I get his picture up?
- 20:19What's that?
- 20:20Click on his little down arrow.
- 20:21Yeah.
- 20:22Okay, that's not who I thought it was.
- 20:23There's some guy in there that everybody's
- 20:25saying that he's on drugs.
- 20:32I don't remember if that was him.
- 20:35Good job on Saxon, man.
- 20:36Yeah, he did.
- 20:50And then the women, uh,
- 20:53Lucy Campbell and Miriam Von Rohr tight
- 20:56race for the win on the,
- 20:58and that's fifteen grand people.
- 21:00Yeah, it is fifteen grand, uh, tight,
- 21:03tight.
- 21:04Um,
- 21:06And then Leah Storen, Emma Lawson,
- 21:09nice comeback after a year off.
- 21:11Morgan Theisens, Var Thurman Moe,
- 21:15Claudia Gluck,
- 21:16and our very own Carolyn Prevost with a
- 21:19top ten finish in the open as a
- 21:22Masters athlete.
- 21:24She's an animal, dude.
- 21:25I love it.
- 21:27Taylor Howe and Rebecca Fusile.
- 21:29Rebecca.
- 21:31In the top ten.
- 21:32Big Becca.
- 21:33Rebecca.
- 21:35so yeah carolyn killed it she loves the
- 21:40open like i think of all the the
- 21:43points in the season she loves the open
- 21:45more than anything she loves doing it with
- 21:48her community she loves the the strategic
- 21:51part of it if you listen to us
- 21:53on sunday night she talks about she always
- 21:55does it friday and monday
- 21:59Every week.
- 22:00Same thing.
- 22:02The strategery.
- 22:02Yep.
- 22:05She loves the strategery of it all.
- 22:09I have a love-hate relationship with the
- 22:10Open.
- 22:11I love it when it comes around because
- 22:12it marks the beginning of the season.
- 22:14Let's see where we're at and whatnot.
- 22:18My son did his first Open in two
- 22:20years, three years this year,
- 22:24which is another love-hate thing because I
- 22:25love that he's doing it,
- 22:26but it's so stressful watching him go,
- 22:28dude,
- 22:28because like
- 22:29I want so much for him.
- 22:31You know what I mean?
- 22:34But it was good to see him get
- 22:34after it himself.
- 22:37Andrew Sten asks,
- 22:38will Carolyn do both Masters and Elite
- 22:40Indy?
- 22:40If she makes both,
- 22:41that would be a long week.
- 22:43If she was allowed, she would do it.
- 22:49The rumor is you're not going to be
- 22:52able to do both.
- 22:54Probably because of the limited spots this
- 22:55year, if I had to guess.
- 22:57It's I don't think it's about spots.
- 22:59I think it's about timing.
- 23:01And I think it's about that Thursday that,
- 23:04that the elites may go to the ranch
- 23:07as the rumored thing.
- 23:09The ranch.
- 23:11Yeah.
- 23:11I think there's might be a small overlap,
- 23:14which will prevent because the elites that
- 23:18are on teams have been told they can't
- 23:20do both.
- 23:20Okay.
- 23:22They can't do masters and elite teams.
- 23:24Yeah.
- 23:25If that is,
- 23:26and I've not seen it anywhere where you
- 23:29can't do elite and masters individual,
- 23:32but Mike,
- 23:35the thought process would be the same as
- 23:37teams, I would think.
- 23:40But who knows?
- 23:43so that's what we have there um and
- 23:47don't forget people we every year we do
- 23:50the ncaa bracket challenge on the
- 23:53clydesdale media youtube channel it's free
- 23:57it's fun it's on espn you just go
- 24:00to clydesdale media jazz fest that is the
- 24:04group
- 24:06And the code is Jazzy.
- 24:08We try to keep it simple.
- 24:09Oddly enough.
- 24:10You can sign up for both the men's
- 24:12tournament bracket and the women's
- 24:13tournament bracket.
- 24:14We give prize for both brackets
- 24:19separately.
- 24:22We already have a good chunk of people
- 24:24signed up.
- 24:25And it's free.
- 24:28And Jamie always wins the awards,
- 24:31the trophies, the rings,
- 24:34whatever it might be.
- 24:36Ganging up to try to stop her from
- 24:39winning another trophy.
- 24:41We must stop Jamie's reign of terror.
- 24:45She is impossible to be around when she
- 24:47keeps winning.
- 24:50That's a fact.
- 24:53Here's why.
- 24:55It's because she won't let you forget it.
- 24:56Oh, no.
- 24:58Like, you'll wear the... Like,
- 25:00fantasy football was a ring.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:02Basketball last year was a ring and a
- 25:04trophy.
- 25:05Yeah,
- 25:05she won the Tyson Bajan jersey from
- 25:08Hiller.
- 25:08She'll wear the shit around you.
- 25:12It's role-playing.
- 25:13So...
- 25:17So, yeah, it's free.
- 25:19ESPN.com.
- 25:20Sign up for the Men's Bracket Challenge.
- 25:22Again,
- 25:22the group that we are in is Clydesdale
- 25:25Media Jazz Fest.
- 25:28And the code is Jazzy.
- 25:31And the link is actually in the
- 25:32description of this show.
- 25:35So you can just click the link there,
- 25:36too.
- 25:36Even better.
- 25:42So did you see Dave on Coffee Pods
- 25:43and Wads?
- 25:44I did for the forty five seconds he
- 25:47was on air.
- 25:51So I'm a quality guy, right?
- 25:53Right.
- 25:55If the quality of the thirty forty five
- 25:57seconds was great.
- 26:01Then I'm cool with it.
- 26:02And it was great.
- 26:04No, it was a percent.
- 26:07And I know a lot of the media
- 26:09attention is, hypothetically,
- 26:10if they offered you the CEO tomorrow,
- 26:13would you take it, right?
- 26:14But what got me fired up is,
- 26:18we've been talking about this on the
- 26:19Sunday show a ton.
- 26:21Should you carry the open scores over to
- 26:24quarterfinals?
- 26:25And he said, not only yes, we should,
- 26:28but we will in the near future.
- 26:32And Dave's near future usually means next
- 26:33year.
- 26:37But we have some things in limbo like
- 26:40no CEO, possible sale, all that stuff,
- 26:44right?
- 26:45The next piece, though,
- 26:47as he talks about it and the way
- 26:50he talks about it tells me we're going
- 26:53back to a regional type setup.
- 26:56I like the way he spoke longingly of
- 26:59regionals.
- 27:01He hates invites to the events.
- 27:04And he's not wrong.
- 27:05So do I.
- 27:07He doesn't care about popularity.
- 27:09He doesn't care about ticket sales.
- 27:11He wants to find the fittest this year.
- 27:15End of story.
- 27:17And the only way to do what he
- 27:19is saying is to at least regionalize it
- 27:24or assign people to a semifinal.
- 27:26Yeah.
- 27:31And...
- 27:33What I love is they even talked about
- 27:35carrying over the open to the
- 27:37quarterfinals to the semifinals,
- 27:41and then you would have like a twelve
- 27:44event test to determine who goes to the
- 27:48games.
- 27:52Yeah.
- 27:53Twelve to fourteen,
- 27:53depending on what you get.
- 27:55We had, I want to say,
- 27:57five events for semifinals last year.
- 28:01Well, if you're in-person semis,
- 28:03it's almost always six.
- 28:05Yeah.
- 28:06So you're at the elite level, right?
- 28:07Right.
- 28:08Online, we had five last year.
- 28:11I want to say for quarterfinals,
- 28:13there was four.
- 28:15So six and four plus three is thirteen.
- 28:20That's probably at a minimum.
- 28:21Chance of a better night,
- 28:22we'll have five workouts next weekend for
- 28:24quarterfinals.
- 28:26And then maybe six for online semis or
- 28:28six for in-person semis.
- 28:30Like,
- 28:32I like the way he spoke of it.
- 28:34I will say this.
- 28:35I was watching a little bit of CJ
- 28:39and them.
- 28:40Well,
- 28:40just CJ at this point because they bailed
- 28:42on him last night.
- 28:43He brought up a good point as far
- 28:46as like he said, you know,
- 28:47he thinks it's a terrible idea,
- 28:49adding all the scores together.
- 28:51And I hadn't thought about it like this.
- 28:52But his main reason is it's a judging
- 28:56nightmare.
- 28:57Because accountability at that point,
- 28:59because look how many,
- 29:00how many scores on the,
- 29:01in the open right now are hot garbage
- 29:04nonsense.
- 29:06Not even just the fact that, you know,
- 29:07and maybe it's a couple of reps
- 29:09questionable here and there and yonder.
- 29:10There was a dude in my age group
- 29:12that did not put a score in for
- 29:14point one,
- 29:14did not put a score in for point
- 29:16two.
- 29:16And I recognize his name because he did
- 29:18the same thing last year.
- 29:19And all of a sudden puts in like
- 29:20a twelve thirty or some crazy shit like
- 29:22that for point three.
- 29:24Well, here's how you fix that.
- 29:25You ready?
- 29:28If you don't make quarters,
- 29:28you don't get your score carried over.
- 29:30Okay, but to make quarters,
- 29:35I can just go put in whatever three
- 29:36scores I want to make quarters.
- 29:38It's a lot harder to do.
- 29:41Well, quarters are judged.
- 29:44Quarters require more judging.
- 29:46They do require more some video review.
- 29:50They go out to the public.
- 29:53So does open,
- 29:54but only if you actually video it,
- 29:56if without requiring video.
- 29:57And they've said that.
- 30:00That's what I'm getting at.
- 30:01So now if you're adding the open to
- 30:03quarters,
- 30:04now you really going to have to be
- 30:06judged or you're going to have to submit
- 30:08video one or the two.
- 30:10That's the only way it's going to be
- 30:11anywhere close to being fair.
- 30:13And that's still a big ask for doing
- 30:15twenty five percent from open to quarters.
- 30:20to get people who actually belong there,
- 30:22belong there.
- 30:23Everybody has to submit videos and
- 30:24everybody has to watch those videos to
- 30:27make sure that people are not doing it.
- 30:29I get the self-policing system thing that
- 30:31we got going on right now because I've
- 30:32looked at people's videos and either said
- 30:35good, not good, or needs review, whatever.
- 30:38But you are asking,
- 30:40that's a huge task for as many people
- 30:43as they're bringing it.
- 30:46Yeah,
- 30:47I think it'll all level itself out as
- 30:48you get into those higher-scale
- 30:50quarterfinal workouts.
- 30:54And as it drops down,
- 31:03I think it can work.
- 31:04It's better than what we have today.
- 31:07I don't disagree.
- 31:08And check the stuff for the Open.
- 31:11And look,
- 31:11you're talking to somebody who like the
- 31:12more events I get,
- 31:14the better I am because I have more
- 31:15of a chance to show off what I
- 31:17can actually do.
- 31:19Anytime you get into a specialty event,
- 31:21I'm not necessarily going to be great at
- 31:22it unless it's a hundred foot handstand
- 31:24walk for time or some crazy,
- 31:26you know what I'm saying?
- 31:26It had to be super specialized.
- 31:29So the more events, the better for me,
- 31:31for sure.
- 31:33I want more.
- 31:36My only concern,
- 31:37and I'm glad CJ brought it up so
- 31:38I can have something else to kind of
- 31:40noodle on it about,
- 31:41is it's a big ass to go from
- 31:44there to there.
- 31:45And I get it.
- 31:46I don't understand what you're saying
- 31:47about once you get to quarterfinals,
- 31:48it'll kind of wash itself out.
- 31:50But to get the right people to
- 31:51quarterfinals,
- 31:52because now people are like, well,
- 31:53I'm just going to put whatever I got
- 31:54in there and
- 31:56Joe Bob at the gym is going to
- 31:57sign off on it,
- 31:58and we're going to call it good and
- 32:00move on right along,
- 32:00and I'm going to get in the quarterfinals.
- 32:02And if it's enough people that do that,
- 32:04I'm not saying that the majority of
- 32:06CrossFitters are cheaters,
- 32:07but I know enough shady-ass people that
- 32:10would do stuff like that just to be
- 32:13able to say I made it.
- 32:14David Reed,
- 32:15ultimately it's up to the affiliate.
- 32:16They should be the gatekeepers and hold
- 32:17standards.
- 32:20I agree with you,
- 32:22but we all know that
- 32:24that is done.
- 32:24They just don't.
- 32:26Willy nilly.
- 32:28Peter Benoit would just require anyone
- 32:29that advances to send me to produce their
- 32:31open videos.
- 32:32I think what they should do is say,
- 32:34you have to video all your workouts and
- 32:36we can request anything from the season at
- 32:41any point to determine your scores.
- 32:45You need to video all three open workouts.
- 32:48You need to video all four quarterfinal
- 32:50workouts and we can request any of them
- 32:52at any time.
- 32:58How many go to semis?
- 32:59I mean, that would,
- 33:01all this is all hypothetical because we
- 33:03don't know how many regions there would
- 33:05be.
- 33:06We don't know how many per region.
- 33:08We don't know any of that stuff at
- 33:10this point.
- 33:12And if you had in-person semis and you
- 33:18see even the age groups are starting to
- 33:20get semis that are more
- 33:24that are coming in more and more and
- 33:25more.
- 33:27And if you have that in-person event to
- 33:30get to the games,
- 33:34and it happened even in the early days,
- 33:36people showed up and couldn't even do the
- 33:38workouts.
- 33:41It was like Kale Lehman, Kale Lehman,
- 33:43Kale's big brother.
- 33:45You know,
- 33:49bail Lehman showed up to regionals and
- 33:51they couldn't even do a rope climb.
- 33:55So a solution at a check market
- 33:58registration,
- 33:59if you say you're looking to be in
- 34:00consideration,
- 34:01then you have to upload videos.
- 34:05I don't, I don't hate that idea either.
- 34:10Or at least if not have to upload
- 34:12them, like Scott said,
- 34:13you have to have them,
- 34:15you have to have them put them on
- 34:17YouTube, whatever the case may be.
- 34:20That way, if, if somebody needs to go,
- 34:22but there's a question,
- 34:24Oh,
- 34:24Corey did got two hundred twenty nine reps
- 34:27on point three.
- 34:27Let's see, because I'm going to right now.
- 34:29I didn't video last night.
- 34:31Absolutely not, because I did not have to.
- 34:32I'm going to do everything for
- 34:33quarterfinals.
- 34:37But for the open, like it's a lot.
- 34:41It really, really is.
- 34:43Yeah,
- 34:44I don't think everybody has to film counts
- 34:47CrossFit.
- 34:47I think it's just those who are looking
- 34:51to go to quarters and looking to go
- 34:53to semis.
- 34:55I would say that ninety shit,
- 34:58maybe ninety five percent of people who
- 35:00are wants to open starts, you know,
- 35:03or you have a pretty good idea if
- 35:04you're going to make quarterfinals or if
- 35:06you're going to be a semifinals type type
- 35:08athlete,
- 35:09especially those in the open division.
- 35:11I know the guys in the Masters division,
- 35:12the guys that I know,
- 35:13the guys I compete with,
- 35:15we know before before season starts, like,
- 35:17yep.
- 35:18i am going to be able to like
- 35:20i don't necessarily need to do a whole
- 35:21lot during the open to make quarterfinals
- 35:23quarterfinals and when it matters i'll
- 35:25probably make semis i would like to be
- 35:27able to qualify high enough to get to
- 35:28an in-person semi you already know you
- 35:32know before the open even starts if not
- 35:34you're delusional one way or the other
- 35:38yeah i think um
- 35:41just the ones who think they will advance.
- 35:43If you have a hundred members,
- 35:44there's likely only a handful of them that
- 35:46will advance.
- 35:48It's like Dave said, like of the,
- 35:50the not a hundred people at a gym,
- 35:54there's really only two that had maybe
- 35:56have a legit shot at semis.
- 35:59And unless you are like a really
- 36:01competitive gym with really high end
- 36:04talent, we got to,
- 36:09I can think of offhand.
- 36:11So that's for desk for masters semis,
- 36:15not even for, not for the open.
- 36:21Amanda says in the open,
- 36:22anyone can judge you.
- 36:23They'd have to change that to require the
- 36:24judge's course at a minimum.
- 36:27I don't disagree.
- 36:27And again,
- 36:28this was just Dave talking about what he
- 36:29wants.
- 36:30Yeah.
- 36:31Right.
- 36:32It doesn't.
- 36:32And if they do go to this new
- 36:34way, that means all new rules,
- 36:37all new requirements.
- 36:39It wouldn't,
- 36:40you would hope they wouldn't just slap it
- 36:43on top of what is there.
- 36:45No.
- 36:46I do think that the way he was
- 36:47talking about it,
- 36:48it sounds like there's already been
- 36:49discussions about it.
- 36:50So maybe they already have some sort of
- 36:51groundwork kind of laid out.
- 36:53They're just trying to work out the
- 36:53details of what the best way forward is
- 36:55going to be.
- 37:01I like the carryover idea,
- 37:02but on top of the people that do
- 37:04the workouts, we have that many watching.
- 37:06Trying to keep them out of the camera
- 37:08area would be tough.
- 37:09The affiliate I went to, both affiliates,
- 37:13coned off with yellow tape the athlete
- 37:18area and the spectator area.
- 37:20And the two shall not cross.
- 37:23And they were very adamant about it.
- 37:26Very adamant.
- 37:29And when it came down to it,
- 37:30athlete gets the floor space before the
- 37:34spectator.
- 37:37Yeah, we tell people, we too,
- 37:40with the lunges,
- 37:41like we were getting ready to start actual
- 37:43heats that Friday night.
- 37:45And I yelled at six people that I
- 37:47consider to be really good friends to get
- 37:50the F out the way before y'all get
- 37:51run over with a dumbbell.
- 37:52Like, why are y'all standing right there?
- 37:54Y'all know better than that.
- 37:58Amanda says, yeah, same Scott.
- 37:59No one is walking in front of cameras.
- 38:01Yeah.
- 38:03Well, my first affiliate,
- 38:04there was no games athletes there.
- 38:06There were not even semifinal athletes
- 38:08there.
- 38:09And then my second gym was Christy Aramo
- 38:12O'Connell.
- 38:13And like,
- 38:14if you walked in front of her camera,
- 38:16I mean, that's death sentence.
- 38:17No, she would never do that.
- 38:19She's too nice.
- 38:20But it was definitely coned off and you
- 38:23were not to go past an area.
- 38:29As a coach,
- 38:30I've learned you sometimes have to treat
- 38:31members like children,
- 38:32tell them where they can and can't go.
- 38:34There are no excuses.
- 38:38That's a fact.
- 38:40Hey, man, don't do that.
- 38:44Right.
- 38:49I don't know if you saw this new
- 38:50event that Xenom added.
- 38:53I didn't see a single Xenom event.
- 38:55I followed them, but for whatever reason,
- 38:57they're not popping up in my feed.
- 38:59Have you seen this?
- 39:01You have to throw as many human bodies
- 39:03as you can for time.
- 39:05Nice.
- 39:06Have you seen this?
- 39:07No, I have not, but I am in.
- 39:14This is actually an official Guinness Book
- 39:16of World Records.
- 39:18Dude, why wouldn't it be?
- 39:22So let me ask you this.
- 39:23Is there just a big long line,
- 39:24or are those guys just making a circle
- 39:26and coming back and throwing them again?
- 39:28I think they circle around and get thrown
- 39:30again.
- 39:31Yes.
- 39:31Yep, there they go.
- 39:33You know what this woman would be good
- 39:34at?
- 39:36Throwing people out that cross the yellow
- 39:38line when you're recording an open
- 39:40workout.
- 39:41A hundred percent.
- 39:42I'd hire her for that.
- 39:45Dude, that looks fun as shit.
- 39:46Yeah.
- 39:51And she gets some sugar after.
- 39:52So what did you do today?
- 39:56I got tossed by a German woman.
- 40:00You did what?
- 40:01You heard me.
- 40:04How many times?
- 40:05I love the cautionary signs in the back.
- 40:08Yeah, that's fantastic.
- 40:10That is fantastic.
- 40:13This looks like,
- 40:13I understand that this is actual Guinness
- 40:15thing, but it looks like a game show.
- 40:18It looks like something they would do like
- 40:19on physical one hundred or something like
- 40:20that.
- 40:22And next up on a physical one hundred.
- 40:28Well,
- 40:28I want to like for the Guinness Book
- 40:29of World Records,
- 40:30does each person have to weigh between one
- 40:34twenty, one forty or?
- 40:37They have to have some sort of weight
- 40:39category.
- 40:39Like you have to, it's probably,
- 40:41it's probably just a minimum.
- 40:44Right.
- 40:44So yeah, you take an average,
- 40:47you want to make it like right at
- 40:49the minimum, right?
- 40:51I want to throw a hundred, uh, uh,
- 40:57Rebecca fuselage.
- 40:58Like that's, that's where that's wrong.
- 41:00That's where I'm at right now.
- 41:01Or, Oh, what's that?
- 41:02Uh,
- 41:02the one that did the world record Fran,
- 41:04like of all time, uh, Marissa flowers.
- 41:07I want to throw.
- 41:09Yeah.
- 41:09How many, how,
- 41:10how fast can I throw a hundred Marissa
- 41:12flowers?
- 41:15I've seen bouncers on Bourbon Street do
- 41:17that.
- 41:17Yeah.
- 41:17Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 41:20She could be the Royal Rumble winner.
- 41:23I love how prepared she was too.
- 41:25Elbow wraps, belt, et cetera.
- 41:27And she did it purely for the love
- 41:28of the game.
- 41:30Mike,
- 41:30that was not her first time doing that,
- 41:32brother.
- 41:32I'm going to tell you that right now.
- 41:33That was not, that was not a,
- 41:36that's not a one-off.
- 41:37She didn't like roll up that name.
- 41:39Like,
- 41:39you know what I feel like doing today?
- 41:41How many dudes we got over here that
- 41:43weigh, hmm,
- 41:44about a hundred and twenty-five pounds?
- 41:46Can you imagine the Craigslist ad?
- 41:49Woman seeking man,
- 41:51ten men at one hundred and twenty-five
- 41:53pounds.
- 41:55Between one twenty-five and one hundred
- 41:57and thirty-five pounds.
- 41:59No weirdos.
- 42:01In for a good time.
- 42:03Yeah.
- 42:04No weirdos.
- 42:08And no, even better.
- 42:10Woman seeking ten men between one hundred
- 42:11twenty five hundred thirty five pounds for
- 42:13Guinness World Record attempt.
- 42:17No weirdos, please.
- 42:18Some people pay a lot of money to
- 42:20have that done to them.
- 42:22Absolutely.
- 42:24Absolutely.
- 42:25Yeah,
- 42:26that's that's another building on Bourbon
- 42:27Street.
- 42:28It is.
- 42:29It's it's on one side of the of
- 42:31the street.
- 42:31Oh, one side of the quarter.
- 42:33I should say not the other one.
- 42:35Oh, that is fantastic, baby.
- 42:40Imagine her in any situation then in
- 42:42public,
- 42:42just constantly sizing up bystanders.
- 42:45Like, yeah,
- 42:47all you would get yeeted nicely.
- 42:50I get yeet every single one of y'all
- 42:53quick too.
- 42:56Holy smokes.
- 43:00That's fantastic.
- 43:02I dove down the biggest rabbit hole I've
- 43:05ever dove down yesterday and
- 43:06After watching that video,
- 43:08I can understand how you would.
- 43:14Totally different.
- 43:15This was bad.
- 43:16Segway bags.
- 43:17Do you know who Jim or say is,
- 43:21Oh, that name sounds so familiar.
- 43:25So he was the owner of the Indianapolis
- 43:27Colts.
- 43:27Okay.
- 43:29And he passed away last in twenty twenty
- 43:32five.
- 43:33He had like the world's biggest private
- 43:36collection of pop culture memorabilia.
- 43:41And he spent his money.
- 43:44And he was a big music fan.
- 43:45He was in a band, played guitar,
- 43:49all the stuff was kids.
- 43:52Didn't need to keep all this stuff that
- 43:54he had collected over the years.
- 43:56So they put it all up for auction.
- 44:02So I watched day one of this three
- 44:04day auction and I'll probably watch the
- 44:06other two.
- 44:08The stuff this guy had and the amount
- 44:10of money that was paid for it was
- 44:14blowing my mind.
- 44:16I can't even.
- 44:18And basically what I was doing was playing
- 44:20Price is Right.
- 44:23Like they would put the item up and
- 44:24I'd go, oh, that's going for three mil.
- 44:27That's a three million dollar price.
- 44:30And I was really,
- 44:31really bad at the game.
- 44:34Dude, that sounds amazing,
- 44:37if I'm being honest.
- 44:38And they had like...
- 44:40Was it a Mecham auction or just a
- 44:42private type deal?
- 44:43It was Christie's Auction House in New
- 44:45York City.
- 44:45Okay, that makes sense.
- 44:47And so, yeah,
- 44:49nobody got the one dollar bid.
- 44:51No, not a single...
- 44:53What I also learned in this whole thing
- 44:55is the haves have a lot.
- 44:57Oh, yeah.
- 44:58And us have-nots really have nothing.
- 45:01Yeah,
- 45:01when they're standing there with that
- 45:02paddle and they just...
- 45:04And it's up to like two hundred fifty
- 45:06grand and it's going.
- 45:11I love that you use a Theragun as
- 45:12your paddle.
- 45:13I mean,
- 45:13it's the only thing I had handy.
- 45:17But you know what I'm saying?
- 45:18That just goes to two hundred grand.
- 45:21Yeah.
- 45:24No, I'm going to need that.
- 45:26And it's probably something ridiculous.
- 45:27Right.
- 45:28Right.
- 45:29So they had David Gilmour's guitar from
- 45:31Pink Floyd.
- 45:33And it is the most expensive guitar in
- 45:35the world.
- 45:36Whenever it goes to auction,
- 45:37it has a crazy story behind it where
- 45:42Pink Floyd's gear got stolen and this was
- 45:44the guitar he bought.
- 45:46So like his first guitar after his stuff
- 45:48got stolen and Fender repainted it for him
- 45:51and the old paint bled through so it
- 45:53has this weird look to it.
- 45:56Twelve point one million dollars.
- 46:01for a guitar that they're not going to
- 46:03play let's be honest they might they
- 46:07probably won't even display it it's going
- 46:09to be in a safe somewhere why because
- 46:12it's twelve point five million dollars our
- 46:15resident collector was sweating more
- 46:17watching than a crossfit workout knowing i
- 46:19didn't have a chance yeah ken wasn't in
- 46:22the back with the two with the two
- 46:23fifty going
- 46:25So he had the drum head from the
- 46:29bass drum of Ringo Starr's drum kit from
- 46:33the night they played on Ed Sullivan for
- 46:35the first time in their first appearance
- 46:37in America.
- 46:38Jesus Christ.
- 46:41But here's the one I wanted.
- 46:44He has the handwritten script for Rocky.
- 46:49Oh, wow.
- 46:50It is in a Mead ring-bound notebook,
- 46:55and it was Stallone's handwritten script
- 46:59for the first Rocky.
- 47:01Is it legible?
- 47:02I always wonder about stuff like that.
- 47:04What does Stallone's handwriting look
- 47:05like?
- 47:05They did not open it up to show
- 47:07you.
- 47:07I think that would have been dangerous,
- 47:10like losing pages or...
- 47:13I'm sure someone has looked to verify it
- 47:15all.
- 47:15But on the TV,
- 47:18they did not show it.
- 47:20But they showed the cover.
- 47:22And it looks like someone in sixth grade's
- 47:25notebook that's all ratty on the edges.
- 47:27Yeah,
- 47:27because I could just hold up this and
- 47:29be like, hey,
- 47:30I got this script for Rocky II right
- 47:31here.
- 47:31It looks like that only in red.
- 47:33Yeah.
- 47:34I got this script for Rocky II right
- 47:36here.
- 47:37And I'll take five million dollars for it.
- 47:40How about that?
- 47:43Well,
- 47:43I thought it would go for a lot
- 47:44more than it did.
- 47:45It only went for four hundred grand.
- 47:47Really?
- 47:48Like I should have jumped in.
- 47:50You should have.
- 47:51You should have.
- 47:52Ken was probably chomping at the bit at
- 47:53that point.
- 47:54He had the robe that Muhammad Ali wore
- 48:02the first time he was Muhammad Ali.
- 48:05After he changed his name from Cassius
- 48:07Clay to Muhammad Ali,
- 48:09the robe he wore the first fight publicly,
- 48:16everything had a story to it.
- 48:19It was this unique thing.
- 48:22He had the handwritten lyrics from Bob
- 48:24Dylan's These Times They Are Changing.
- 48:30You need the handwritten lyrics because
- 48:31you can't understand a word Bob's saying,
- 48:33so that's fair.
- 48:38Like a Gretzky jersey from when he
- 48:40clinched the Stanley Cup in game seven and
- 48:44when he was with the Edmonton Oilers.
- 48:46Where do they get that stuff?
- 48:48Like,
- 48:48how does that end up in somebody's
- 48:50collection?
- 48:53The funniest story was there was a Clapton
- 48:55guitar that was hand-painted to look like
- 48:58it had been done by a Dutch impressionist.
- 49:01They call it the Fool.
- 49:03And he played it when he was with
- 49:04Cream.
- 49:06somehow it went from him to todd rungren
- 49:10who played it on his albums and then
- 49:12eventually in this guy's collection let me
- 49:17get that guitar off you todd the crazy
- 49:21part about that kind of stuff is like
- 49:22it's probably somebody's like todd rungren
- 49:25just that was the last person who had
- 49:27it right and then somebody probably got it
- 49:29from him because he didn't need it anymore
- 49:31because he's got god only knows how many
- 49:33guitars right and he's like yeah whatever
- 49:35i got this from
- 49:38And it just went, I got, yeah,
- 49:39I got this from Eric and probably insane.
- 49:41And then six months later, Hey,
- 49:44when you said you got this from Eric,
- 49:45did you meet Eric Clapton?
- 49:46It was like, yeah,
- 49:47because they don't think of people in
- 49:50that.
- 49:51Like if you were friends with Eric
- 49:53Clapton,
- 49:53you don't think of him necessarily as Eric
- 49:55Clapton.
- 49:55You think of him as Eric.
- 49:57Does that make sense?
- 49:58Yeah.
- 50:00And at the time he probably,
- 50:02he was not as legendary as he is
- 50:04now.
- 50:06So it was probably even less of a
- 50:07thing.
- 50:08And just over time,
- 50:09as that builds up now,
- 50:10all of a sudden you got Eric Clapton's
- 50:14guitar.
- 50:15Yeah.
- 50:17So funny off off subject story,
- 50:20Eric Clapton has a house here in Columbus.
- 50:23His wife is a native of Columbus, Ohio.
- 50:28When we were having my daughter is when
- 50:31his wife was pregnant with their child.
- 50:36we had Lamaze on Wednesday night.
- 50:39They had it on Tuesday night.
- 50:40We were that close to having Lamaze class
- 50:44with Eric Clapton.
- 50:46Yeah.
- 50:49I've never met him.
- 50:50It just was like, it could have, if,
- 50:54you know, if y'all had been like, Oh,
- 50:56let's do it on Tuesday instead of doing
- 50:58it on Wednesday.
- 51:00Also you walk in, he's like, is that,
- 51:02Eric Clapton?
- 51:05Yeah.
- 51:08Oh, I was just working out with Dick.
- 51:10Oh, sorry.
- 51:11You probably only know him as Rich
- 51:12Froning.
- 51:13My bad.
- 51:13Yeah.
- 51:18If you've never met Rich Froning,
- 51:19I met him one time.
- 51:20He's the nicest guy on the planet.
- 51:23He really is.
- 51:25He really is.
- 51:28The one time, and this was forever ago,
- 51:30he came speak at a church that I
- 51:32was going to at the time.
- 51:33And what struck me the most is that
- 51:36he introduced himself.
- 51:37He didn't take for granted everybody knew
- 51:38who he was.
- 51:40Hey, man, I'm Rich.
- 51:42And he was like, no,
- 51:44you say your name.
- 51:46He said that to me, and I'm like,
- 51:50yeah, I know who you are.
- 51:51Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 51:52Yeah, dude, I know who you are.
- 51:53Yeah.
- 51:55Yeah.
- 51:58But, like,
- 51:58you are coached by Brandon Luckett.
- 52:03And you don't even think of him as,
- 52:04like,
- 52:05games athlete Brandon Luckett anymore,
- 52:06right?
- 52:07It's just Brandon.
- 52:08It's just Brandon.
- 52:09When I worked out with Christy every day,
- 52:11it was, it's just Christy.
- 52:13It's not.
- 52:15Speaking of my coach, right quick, like,
- 52:16why would you mention that?
- 52:18He's the world right now.
- 52:19That's pretty cool.
- 52:25considering his wife made him,
- 52:26Kristen made him sign up.
- 52:28He's like,
- 52:30I guess I'm doing these workouts.
- 52:31Kristen made me sign up for the opening.
- 52:33Forty-first in the world.
- 52:35It's ridiculous.
- 52:42Ken,
- 52:43I think I'm a big shot when I
- 52:44sell a big item of mine,
- 52:46like the signed Kendall Gill Supersonics
- 52:48warm-up jacket last month for seven point
- 52:50three grand.
- 52:52Then you get these items.
- 52:54It's crazy.
- 52:57Yeah,
- 52:59I sold off all of my signed helmets
- 53:01and a lot of my stuff to pay
- 53:04for a camera to be a media guy
- 53:06in CrossFit.
- 53:08And I didn't get anything like even what
- 53:12Ken's talking about.
- 53:15Sacrifices we make.
- 53:16Yeah.
- 53:20Mike DeVito met him at a meet and
- 53:21greet with Rich,
- 53:23so it wasn't random or anything,
- 53:25but he legit seemed very authentic.
- 53:29Not an Eagles, though.
- 53:31He's not an Eagles fan.
- 53:32Eagles fan, though, but I let it slide.
- 53:34Go, birds.
- 53:40So what vote do we give the open?
- 53:42Sorry if you've already talked about that.
- 53:52I give it an A.
- 53:57I could be real nitpicky if I wanted
- 53:58to be, right?
- 54:00If you really want to get in.
- 54:01But is he open about being nitpicky?
- 54:03But that's going to be my next point.
- 54:06It's really not.
- 54:08It's really not.
- 54:09It served its purpose.
- 54:11It did.
- 54:12And it was very, very much like...
- 54:17opens of the past it would similar style
- 54:21workout similar like can't breathe workout
- 54:24similar like and i thought the
- 54:28announcements were all great yeah the
- 54:31lineups they had other than dave stumbling
- 54:33over this last workout and confusing the
- 54:36world that was funny but again it's it's
- 54:39a memorable piece because you can talk
- 54:41about it and even though it was a
- 54:43mess up it's a mess up that makes
- 54:46it memorable
- 54:48Yeah.
- 54:49I gave myself Fran long Friday night.
- 54:52Probably not going to forget that anytime
- 54:53soon.
- 54:56They are what they are.
- 54:57Dave said yesterday,
- 55:00that was one of the things he said
- 55:01on the show.
- 55:01He's like, if I'm not pissing people off,
- 55:03I'm really not doing my job.
- 55:06And it's the open.
- 55:10And like he said,
- 55:11ninety eight percent of the people aren't
- 55:13moving on to to be a games athlete
- 55:17of any kind.
- 55:17Right.
- 55:18And this is for the affiliates and it's
- 55:22for them to do.
- 55:25It's for them to do it as a
- 55:26community.
- 55:27It's not for the big athletes at this
- 55:29point.
- 55:31Right.
- 55:32And I think with that perspective,
- 55:34it was a great open.
- 55:37Yeah, I would agree to that.
- 55:39I know from my experience in my affiliate,
- 55:43everybody had fun.
- 55:44It felt like the old open.
- 55:46Everybody bitched about the workout before
- 55:47it started, got it done,
- 55:49slapped some hands, did some high fives.
- 55:51We had people,
- 55:53a real good friend of mine is actually
- 55:55a member of the month right now.
- 55:56He's only been here two years.
- 55:58He was able to RX all three of
- 55:59them.
- 56:01Right.
- 56:01And that's kind of a big deal.
- 56:02Like, Holy smokes.
- 56:04Did he just RX all three workouts?
- 56:05Like that's, that's pretty fantastic.
- 56:08Um, so that's an accomplishment.
- 56:09Right.
- 56:09And it was actually his first open ever.
- 56:13Um,
- 56:15it felt like it did when I first
- 56:17started.
- 56:18And I think that's a special thing in
- 56:19and of itself.
- 56:21Mark Phillips, twelve minutes,
- 56:22fifteen minutes,
- 56:23sixteen minutes would have liked a shorter
- 56:25or longer for one of those.
- 56:27But it was fine.
- 56:28I don't think you can go longer than
- 56:29that and make it a class workout and
- 56:33shorter.
- 56:35You only get three weeks.
- 56:36If it was a five week open,
- 56:38you could do a short workout.
- 56:40But I think with a three week workout,
- 56:42you have to keep it in that range.
- 56:44I think they were all very different
- 56:47aerobic tests.
- 56:49because of just the skills that are
- 56:52required.
- 56:55That lunge workout with the increasing
- 56:57gymnastics,
- 56:59if you sprinted that and you weren't an
- 57:01elite athlete,
- 57:02you were just going to stand there and
- 57:03stare at rings.
- 57:05It had to be paced differently,
- 57:07where the first one was more of a,
- 57:11let's sprint and see where we can get
- 57:13to.
- 57:14And the last one was,
- 57:15let's pace it or we're going to die.
- 57:20So I think even though they were all
- 57:22similar minutes,
- 57:23they all took a different strategic look
- 57:26for the common gym goer.
- 57:28For the common gym goer and for the
- 57:31higher level athletes,
- 57:31they're different workouts.
- 57:35For the elites, the elite elites,
- 57:37twenty six point two was how fast can
- 57:39you do twenty ring muscle ups for time?
- 57:42That's what that's what it comes down to
- 57:45for the rest of us.
- 57:46It's do I have ring muscle ups?
- 57:48Do I have them when I'm tired?
- 57:49How many can I do when I'm tired?
- 57:51Can I maybe finish this in, you know,
- 57:55twelve to fifteen minutes somewhere up in
- 57:56that in that window?
- 58:00The last one too,
- 58:01how much do I know about pacing?
- 58:02How much do I know about myself to
- 58:04know where I can get,
- 58:05how I can pace this out,
- 58:07be smart about it?
- 58:09I said it on Friday after I got
- 58:10announced that this was more of a mental
- 58:12thing than it was physical at that point.
- 58:14Everybody can do thrusters.
- 58:15Everybody can do burpees.
- 58:17Even on the heavier side of the thrusters,
- 58:19most people can get at least or at
- 58:22least do one or two set reps at
- 58:25that higher weight.
- 58:26Can you do it when you're tired?
- 58:27Can you get there?
- 58:30to do it can you get there with
- 58:32enough energy to do it like uh lito
- 58:35says everyone at our affiliate felt like
- 58:38it was hard and challenging as it should
