Luna: Ooh, I love baking. Let's start with kochen. Lucas: Perfect. So, I cook is Ich koche. Listen: Ich koche. Luna: Ich koche. Lucas: Exactly. Now, you cook — Du kochst. Try it. Luna: Du kochst. That's fun. So the ending changes? Lucas: Right. For 'he' it's Er kocht. Say it. Luna: Er kocht. Lucas: Good. And we cook — Wir kochen. Luna: Wir kochen. So that's like the base form again? Lucas: Exactly. Now baking: Ich backe. Luna: Ich backe. Lucas: Du backst. Luna: Du backst. That one's a little twisty. Lucas: Tiny tweak — backen loses the 'e' in du and er forms. So er backt. Luna: Er backt. Got it. So if I say 'I bake a cake' — Ich backe einen Kuchen? Lucas: That's it! See, you're cooking with German. Luna: Aww. So let's practice a little scene. I'm in the kitchen with my friend. Lucas: Okay, I'll be your friend. You say 'I cook', I say 'You cook too'. Luna: Ich koche. Lucas: Du kochst auch. Luna: Perfect. And then we cook together — Wir kochen. Lucas: Yeah yeah yeah. And later we bake — Wir backen. Luna: Wir backen einen Kuchen. Lucas: I love that.
