- 1:02Speaker 5: We're back, dude, Welcome to twenty twenty six.
- 1:06Speaker 6: New year.
- 1:06Speaker 5: Say us right, nothing's changed, nothing's changed, so we're not
- 1:12Speaker 5: Look man, we're not in it yet though, because we're
- 1:13Speaker 5: here to kind of talk about twenty twenty five, talk
- 1:16Speaker 5: about some of our favorite physical media releases, kind of
- 1:19Speaker 5: recap on the show a little bit, and then we
- 1:22Speaker 5: can kind of fast forward back to the present talk
- 1:25Speaker 5: about kind of what's coming this year for the show
- 1:28Speaker 5: and just kind of where we're at and what we
- 1:30Speaker 5: what we want to plan to do. So, I know,
- 1:32Speaker 5: we both hope everybody's Christmas and New Year's or whatever
- 1:36Speaker 5: holidays you celebrated went well, and we're fun and we're
- 1:40Speaker 5: very festive. We hope you watched Silent Night, Deadly Night,
- 1:43Speaker 5: Southern Night, Deadly Night Part two, Soundly Christmas Race, Silent Night,
- 1:47Speaker 5: Daily Night Part four, then Night Night Part five, Silent Night,
- 1:52Speaker 5: and then went to the theaters to see Silent Deadly Night.
- 1:55Speaker 6: Got to.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Just got to keep that going.
- 1:58Speaker 6: I wouldn't be complaining. I'll leave it at that.
- 2:03Speaker 3: How about you, man, how's your holidays wonderful?
- 2:07Speaker 6: I got caught up on a bunch of Christmas horror
- 2:10Speaker 6: movies leading up to the holiday, and isn't that all
- 2:16Speaker 6: we can ask for? Really?
- 2:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't watch as much as I thought I
- 2:19Speaker 3: was going to.
- 2:20Speaker 5: I had this whole stack sitting on top of my
- 2:23Speaker 5: region free player, and I didn't get to any of them.
- 2:25Speaker 3: I don't think well.
- 2:27Speaker 6: I will say it was tough getting through the amount
- 2:30Speaker 6: of movies that I was ambitiously trying to get through
- 2:32Speaker 6: before Christmas. Yeah, And I will also say trying to
- 2:36Speaker 6: narrow this down today for the releases that we picked
- 2:40Speaker 6: out of countless exciting releases that we got in twenty
- 2:45Speaker 6: twenty five was very tough.
- 2:48Speaker 5: This was a crazy year, man, Because I think I
- 2:52Speaker 5: kind of talked about this on my Instagram a little bit.
- 2:55Speaker 5: I think this year was really definitive for physical media collectors.
- 3:01Speaker 5: We saw a big push for new collectors, which if
- 3:05Speaker 5: you're listening to your new collector, don't listen to what
- 3:08Speaker 5: anybody says. You are welcome, Please ask questions and get
- 3:11Speaker 5: into it and tell us your favorite releases, do all
- 3:16Speaker 5: the things that you feel the need to do, because
- 3:19Speaker 5: we welcome you with open arms.
- 3:20Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 3:22Speaker 5: Between the volume of new collectors the volume of releases,
- 3:25Speaker 5: I think we learned a lot this year about what
- 3:30Speaker 5: to spend money on, what not to, how to hold
- 3:33Speaker 5: off for some sales, you know, what to pull the
- 3:37Speaker 5: trigger on immediately. There was a good amount of kind
- 3:42Speaker 5: of controversy around some things, and I think it was
- 3:46Speaker 5: pretty well balanced with the good and the bad. Probably
- 3:49Speaker 5: a little bit more good this year in our space,
- 3:52Speaker 5: you know, I think so. I think that there was
- 3:54Speaker 5: a lot too, I think cubatively, a lot of us,
- 3:59Speaker 5: specifically in the horror genre. We all kind of had
- 4:03Speaker 5: right about the same list of like top ten releases
- 4:08Speaker 5: of the year. It kind of felt like the biggest
- 4:11Speaker 5: releases were pretty definitive for everybody, and then you know
- 4:15Speaker 5: around kind of maybe that that upper or that lower
- 4:19Speaker 5: of that ranking, there's kind of something that come in
- 4:21Speaker 5: and now, as you'll see, like our picks today are
- 4:24Speaker 5: very different. We went very different directions with our picks, but.
- 4:30Speaker 3: A great year. Nonetheless.
- 4:32Speaker 6: You know, I feel like even even the ones and
- 4:36Speaker 6: we'll obviously dive into them here shortly, but the ones
- 4:39Speaker 6: that you picked out, there's like a mutual respect for
- 4:42Speaker 6: him because I love those movies just as much. So
- 4:47Speaker 6: very excited to have a chance to talk about both
- 4:49Speaker 6: of our selections.
- 4:52Speaker 5: And a lot of stuff this year. A lot of
- 4:53Speaker 5: movies people were looking to get upgraded. We we've had
- 4:57Speaker 5: released from multiple labels you know, over us, which I
- 5:03Speaker 5: think is is good thanks to our access through through uh,
- 5:08Speaker 5: you know, through through the websites we shop through the
- 5:11Speaker 5: Movie Room, Orbit, Diabolic, brother Lyle Valoria. You know, we're
- 5:16Speaker 5: able to get our hands on releases that weren't intended
- 5:18Speaker 5: for us, and that's kind of created a lot of
- 5:20Speaker 5: conversation because Company A released something into US, and then
- 5:25Speaker 5: Company B releases something into UK, and then people like
- 5:28Speaker 5: the the UK won better people like ours. But there
- 5:31Speaker 5: was so much of that this year.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I think now more than ever, I feel like it's
- 5:37Speaker 6: almost tough as a collector trying to decide is this
- 5:41Speaker 6: something that I need to pull the triggerund immediately or
- 5:44Speaker 6: is there gonna be another boutique label that ends up
- 5:46Speaker 6: releasing it a later point. And there's a couple releases
- 5:50Speaker 6: that will how we talk about here on this episode,
- 5:54Speaker 6: that are getting multiple releases, And that's kind of the
- 5:57Speaker 6: challenging aspect about you know what we so much.
- 6:01Speaker 5: We just talked about it before we went live with
- 6:04Speaker 5: John Wu's Hard Boiled. You know, you bought the US
- 6:08Speaker 5: screen Factory, I held off and bought the Arrow four K,
- 6:12Speaker 5: and yeah, I don't know really what the difference is
- 6:16Speaker 5: between the two outside of packaging, but it just came
- 6:18Speaker 5: down to I think it wasn't I want I Okay,
- 6:24Speaker 5: I wanted the Shout Factory one, but when the Era
- 6:30Speaker 5: one came out, it just was a more attractive price
- 6:33Speaker 5: and I ended up liking the appearance of it better.
- 6:38Speaker 6: Well, I will say for Hard Boiled, I believe that
- 6:42Speaker 6: this was one of the would you say it was
- 6:45Speaker 6: one of the first releases in the midst of Scream
- 6:51Speaker 6: Factory Shout Studios transitioning over to Groove basically as like
- 6:59Speaker 6: the storefront.
- 7:01Speaker 5: It came out like right in the middle of everything
- 7:03Speaker 5: that was going on. I remember, because I think there
- 7:06Speaker 5: was some a lot of people were mad because they
- 7:09Speaker 5: couldn't get access to it.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It sold out temporarily, sold.
- 7:13Speaker 6: Out very quickly, and I didn't really expect that. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 6: now it's more readily available, but there was a point
- 7:21Speaker 6: in time when it was initially released where it was
- 7:25Speaker 6: really hard to come by. And yeah, I have to
- 7:29Speaker 6: respect Shout Studios for planting the flag with this film
- 7:34Speaker 6: because this release was so exciting for those out there
- 7:39Speaker 6: who have seen this movie before or were holding out
- 7:41Speaker 6: for more of a definitive release, whether it's for Shout
- 7:44Speaker 6: Studios or Errow eventually, but this one, I haven't seen
- 7:51Speaker 6: this movie in years, and to see it probably in
- 7:56Speaker 6: the best format that we'll ever get for this movie.
- 7:59Speaker 6: Between you these releases, I was very impressed. Yeah, the
- 8:06Speaker 6: amount of movies that Shout Studios is in the process
- 8:10Speaker 6: of getting ready to release. I mean, we already have
- 8:13Speaker 6: the Killer Better Tomorrow trilogy. I believe City on Fire
- 8:18Speaker 6: was another one that just recently got a release.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Bullet in the head I think just came out or
- 8:23Speaker 5: is coming out like this week.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Yep. So there's there's a lot of exciting stuff coming
- 8:27Speaker 6: out of Shout Studios. And we know that they've also
- 8:32Speaker 6: struck a deal with with Aero Video as well, so
- 8:36Speaker 6: it's good to have options. Right with this release, it
- 8:42Speaker 6: was so refreshing to see something come out of Shout Studios.
- 8:45Speaker 6: I was legitimately excited about this year, and this movie delivered.
- 8:52Speaker 6: It looked wonderful. It was just from start to finish,
- 8:56Speaker 6: it was on the edge of my seat, you know,
- 8:57Speaker 6: after not seeing this movie in such a long time.
- 9:02Speaker 6: But the four K transfer looked excellent. There's a lot
- 9:06Speaker 6: of new features that was added on to this release.
- 9:08Speaker 6: So there was a couple audio commentaries that had gotten
- 9:14Speaker 6: added on specifically for this release, so have an audio
- 9:18Speaker 6: commentary with director John Wu and film journalist Drew Taylor.
- 9:22Speaker 6: Also one with film historian don't kill me if I'm
- 9:28Speaker 6: butchering his name, Frank Jing. And then it looks like
- 9:33Speaker 6: that there were a few archival commentaries on here as well.
- 9:37Speaker 6: I mean, this is loaded with special features, so there's
- 9:42Speaker 6: actually a couple new interviews with director John Wu, actor
- 9:47Speaker 6: Anthony Wong, producer Terrence Chang, screenwriter Gordon Chan, let's see
- 9:57Speaker 6: interview with screenwriter Chung Han Kou, interview with composer Michael Gibbs,
- 10:06Speaker 6: and let's see author Leon Hunt, and academic ling thing.
- 10:14Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 10:14Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm just happy that I made it through all
- 10:19Speaker 6: those notable interviews without hopefully not butchering too many names.
- 10:23Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean, if you're looking to get into
- 10:28Speaker 6: some of John Woo's films, this is a perfect starting point.
- 10:32Speaker 6: I was really impressed. I haven't really been blown away
- 10:37Speaker 6: by any of like Shout Studios releases in some time,
- 10:41Speaker 6: and this one for sure has a definitive place on
- 10:46Speaker 6: my shelf.
- 10:48Speaker 5: And it was a cool look too, with the green
- 10:49Speaker 5: cover and it kind of artistic look like that.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Not artistic. Obviously it was artistic, but.
- 10:56Speaker 5: The art choice, the style kind of contrasting The Killer,
- 11:00Speaker 5: which was red.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Yeah, so it looked very very good.
- 11:05Speaker 5: I love the shell Factory to the kind of hard
- 11:07Speaker 5: box with the booklet inside, kind of the thinner hard box.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Yeah, it's something different, you know. It's not just your
- 11:13Speaker 6: standard with the slip, which is cool. I mean, obviously
- 11:16Speaker 6: they've done that for a few of the other releases
- 11:18Speaker 6: that they've had in this line, But I.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Guess is it because I don't have it?
- 11:22Speaker 5: Is it like the Creep Show release, the original Creep
- 11:24Speaker 5: Show Blu ray release, or like the Halloween four K
- 11:28Speaker 5: like that kind of squidbox.
- 11:30Speaker 6: Kind of it's a little I think that this one's
- 11:33Speaker 6: a little bit thicker.
- 11:34Speaker 5: So oh yeah it is. Okay, So for those who
- 11:37Speaker 5: can't see he's just showing it.
- 11:38Speaker 6: Off, I would say it's almost like twice twice the
- 11:44Speaker 6: size of a standard case. Okay, but yeah, the Killer,
- 11:49Speaker 6: I mean, same format for that. Highly recommend that film
- 11:52Speaker 6: as well, but I had to pick Hard Boil because
- 11:55Speaker 6: that was the one that really stood out to me
- 11:57Speaker 6: the most.
- 11:58Speaker 5: I think The Killer became this year my favorite John
- 12:02Speaker 5: wu movie.
- 12:04Speaker 6: That's so good.
- 12:05Speaker 5: The Killer is great, man. I mean, hard Boiled is
- 12:08Speaker 5: essential viewing, you know, no doubt, but The Killer really
- 12:13Speaker 5: I watched it on I think it was maybe September
- 12:16Speaker 5: October Criterion was I had a whole bunch of John
- 12:19Speaker 5: wu stuff on the Criterion Channel and I watched a
- 12:24Speaker 5: good handful of them, and The Killer was the one
- 12:27Speaker 5: that really blew me away. I had seen Hard Boiled,
- 12:30Speaker 5: but The Killer was the one that, like, really, you know,
- 12:33Speaker 5: my knocked my socks off, man, and it was a
- 12:35Speaker 5: ton of fun.
- 12:36Speaker 6: That's another one if you for those listening, if you
- 12:40Speaker 6: you know I want to get into any of these films,
- 12:43Speaker 6: that's another great entry that would strongly recommend.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I want to get into kind of one that
- 12:50Speaker 5: we both decided we had to at least mention and
- 12:53Speaker 5: bring up. And with that, I kind of have to
- 12:55Speaker 5: thank Monster Mall Shop for kind of an opportunity that
- 13:01Speaker 5: I got. I've never worked with a Monster Mall shop.
- 13:04Speaker 5: I've never purchased from them before. I and I just
- 13:08Speaker 5: love telling this story because I think it's it's one
- 13:12Speaker 5: of the coolest things that happened in twenty twenty five
- 13:14Speaker 5: for me personally. When it comes to collecting the Nightmare
- 13:18Speaker 5: on Elm Street four K collection, the Big Steeal book set,
- 13:23Speaker 5: which is kind of one that we're mutually saying is
- 13:25Speaker 5: an honorable mention from this year. I had pre ordered
- 13:29Speaker 5: on Amazon and.
- 13:32Speaker 3: It was months.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Before it was the first hour that somebody had posted
- 13:38Speaker 5: the pre order was live. I got on, I found it,
- 13:41Speaker 5: I pre ordered it. There was no artwork left. We
- 13:44Speaker 5: had no idea what this thing looked like. We had
- 13:46Speaker 5: no idea how much it costs. We didn't know anything.
- 13:50Speaker 5: And I pre ordered it.
- 13:51Speaker 6: It was a shot in the dark, it.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I was just like, I'm buying this. There's no like,
- 13:55Speaker 5: how do you argue against that?
- 13:56Speaker 3: You know?
- 13:59Speaker 5: And then I got all the way until the art
- 14:01Speaker 5: was released, and I still had my pre order, all
- 14:04Speaker 5: the way to the point where I had to release,
- 14:06Speaker 5: like I had a delivery date, and then I canceled
- 14:10Speaker 5: it because at the time, the amount of money it
- 14:18Speaker 5: was costing, I just didn't feel comfortable putting out at
- 14:23Speaker 5: that time of year.
- 14:24Speaker 3: It's a pretty big investment, yeah, and it was.
- 14:28Speaker 5: It was something that when I canceled it, I knew
- 14:31Speaker 5: I wasn't going to pay the three hundred dollars for
- 14:33Speaker 5: the UK version of it that came with the Blu rays,
- 14:39Speaker 5: and I kind of came to terms with the fact
- 14:41Speaker 5: that I was never going to own it. I was like, Okay,
- 14:42Speaker 5: I'm going to cancel it. This is going to sell out,
- 14:45Speaker 5: They're not going to reprint it. I'm going to lose
- 14:48Speaker 5: out on it. I'm just going to get the standard edition.
- 14:50Speaker 5: And I was okay with.
- 14:52Speaker 6: That, which is still really nice by the way.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Yeah, still super nice, and you know me like I'm
- 14:56Speaker 5: not really like a packaging guy concerned with the disc,
- 15:03Speaker 5: but I was still like upset that I was missing
- 15:06Speaker 5: out on such a cool physical piece to have for
- 15:13Speaker 5: Nightmaren Elm Street. So it comes out, I watch everybody,
- 15:17Speaker 5: all my friends, all of our friends unbox it, and
- 15:19Speaker 5: I was like, oh, it's so cool. Sucks, I'm never
- 15:22Speaker 5: gonna own that. And then one day I see that
- 15:25Speaker 5: Monster Mall shop is doing a giveaway and the number
- 15:29Speaker 5: of the grand prize is the Nightmare elm Street four
- 15:32Speaker 5: case steel books at never associated with them before, never
- 15:38Speaker 5: purchased anything. I just think like we followed each other
- 15:40Speaker 5: on Instagram. That was about it, and I did what
- 15:44Speaker 5: I had to do to get in for the contest
- 15:46Speaker 5: and straight up kind of forgot about it. I had
- 15:50Speaker 5: no idea until one night. I'm sitting on the couch
- 15:53Speaker 5: and I watching a movie with my wife. I go
- 15:55Speaker 5: on Instagram and I have a It was tagged in
- 15:58Speaker 5: a story from Monster Mall Shop, and I was like,
- 16:02Speaker 5: why would I be tagging one of their stories? And
- 16:04Speaker 5: I actually closed it out because I didn't want to
- 16:06Speaker 5: be I didn't I forgot about the contest, so I
- 16:09Speaker 5: closed it out because I was like, whatever this is,
- 16:11Speaker 5: I don't want to feel obligated to have to answer
- 16:13Speaker 5: right now. Like I was like, I'll I'll get back
- 16:16Speaker 5: to this later. And I'm sitting there and I'm like,
- 16:21Speaker 5: why would I open it back up?
- 16:22Speaker 3: And I want it crazy? Is yeah, insane.
- 16:27Speaker 5: So they got it out to me so quick, and
- 16:30Speaker 5: the message I sent them and replied to his story
- 16:33Speaker 5: was holy shit, thank you, and they were like, holy shit,
- 16:36Speaker 5: you're welcome.
- 16:38Speaker 6: I actually I met both of them over at Scarefest
- 16:42Speaker 6: this past year and they were They were very nice
- 16:44Speaker 6: in person. Had a really great conversation with them, and
- 16:48Speaker 6: it's like you love to be able to connect with,
- 16:50Speaker 6: you know, kind of putting a face to a name,
- 16:53Speaker 6: especially when you're going to you know, horror conventions. I
- 16:55Speaker 6: feel like it's just such a cool way to you know,
- 16:58Speaker 6: connect with people that way, whether it's you know, through
- 17:02Speaker 6: social media or you know, supporting smaller businesses like that.
- 17:06Speaker 6: But kudos to you, man, that's that's a huge that's
- 17:11Speaker 6: a huge win in twenty twenty five. Dude.
- 17:14Speaker 5: I almost cried, like I was, like, I can't believe
- 17:18Speaker 5: because it felt like it felt like it felt like
- 17:22Speaker 5: kind of like the universe was paying me back for
- 17:24Speaker 5: making like a grown up decision that being like, Okay,
- 17:29Speaker 5: I don't know if I'm okay spending this money right now,
- 17:33Speaker 5: make that sacrifice.
- 17:36Speaker 6: I think it's going to make you appreciate it that
- 17:38Speaker 6: much more having it in the collection, you know what
- 17:40Speaker 6: I mean?
- 17:40Speaker 5: It does, It does, And you know, I felt so
- 17:43Speaker 5: bad because they were kind of receiving some grief from
- 17:46Speaker 5: some people that were upset about how the giveaway went,
- 17:50Speaker 5: and they had posted, particularly about someone that that was
- 17:54Speaker 5: messaging them saying that I had won the set because
- 18:00Speaker 5: I was considered like media, like I guess, like a
- 18:04Speaker 5: new like a just like an influencer, I guess, And
- 18:11Speaker 5: they responded so professionally back to this person.
- 18:14Speaker 3: That I would have absolutely ripped apart, and I've.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Been in in in hands of the response to that message,
- 18:22Speaker 5: but they handled it so well and never once was
- 18:27Speaker 5: there a conversation about me showing anything off or working
- 18:29Speaker 5: with them. You know, the only company I probably work
- 18:32Speaker 5: with is Movie Room. I know you work with Gloria Yep.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Two incredible companies. And you know, I felt bad that
- 18:39Speaker 5: they kind of did that, because it was so nice
- 18:40Speaker 5: of them to put on this giveaway, and they were
- 18:46Speaker 5: very transparent and said that somebody that they actually worked
- 18:49Speaker 5: with was the first winner, and they had to spin
- 18:52Speaker 5: it again. And that's how I landed on it, or
- 18:54Speaker 5: that's how I got landed on. But all that to
- 18:58Speaker 5: say that, I don't think we could talk about the
- 19:01Speaker 5: best of twenty twenty five without mentioning owning all the
- 19:05Speaker 5: night right now the streets on four K.
- 19:07Speaker 6: It was a turbulent ride. Let's just leave it at that.
- 19:10Speaker 6: I feel like that this has been a long time coming,
- 19:13Speaker 6: especially after getting the first four K, but to finally
- 19:18Speaker 6: have that in each of our possession, I don't know, man,
- 19:23Speaker 6: it feels like for me at least, I feel like
- 19:27Speaker 6: it lived up to what I was expecting.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I was shocked at how much I watched so
- 19:41Speaker 5: Far two and three, and I was shocked at how
- 19:45Speaker 5: good they looked. Genuinely, you, Freddy Trevene looked phenomenal.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I love that movie.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Dream Warriors looked also so good. It was darker, which
- 19:58Speaker 5: I wasn't expecting, darker, much more contrasty, and I really
- 20:05Speaker 5: dug it. I think it looked phenomenal and just happened
- 20:10Speaker 5: to own, you know, such a set that I feel
- 20:12Speaker 5: like actual effort went into. And I think the reason
- 20:15Speaker 5: it doesn't make like my actual top for the years
- 20:18Speaker 5: is because there's not a ton of new bonus features
- 20:22Speaker 5: and stuff throughout the set.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Yeah, there's some, but I would have really liked to have.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Seen I think clearly some commentaries or maybe some stuff
- 20:31Speaker 5: like that, but we didn't get any of that. So
- 20:35Speaker 5: but we did get more effort than we usually get
- 20:37Speaker 5: from the typical studio.
- 20:39Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I mean, do you remember when
- 20:42Speaker 6: I think the the pre order went live? Wasn't it
- 20:45Speaker 6: in like July of last year around that time?
- 20:48Speaker 3: And it was just I don't think it was that
- 20:51Speaker 3: long ago.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I think it went in the wait, oh no, I'm sorry,
- 20:54Speaker 5: you're saying last year, meaning twenty twenty five. Yeah, I
- 20:56Speaker 5: think it was July they went up and then September
- 20:59Speaker 5: were the photos.
- 21:01Speaker 6: And it was I remember there was a leaked image.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Obviously we know that that wasn't the final image, but
- 21:08Speaker 6: the bed with Freddy's face on it or something like that.
- 21:11Speaker 6: It was so ridiculous. I'm thinking myself, if that's the case,
- 21:15Speaker 6: I'm canceling this preorder.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Yeah that was good, No, that was yeah.
- 21:19Speaker 6: But we got here, we made it right, yeah.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, So we had to put that
- 21:25Speaker 5: on our list.
- 21:26Speaker 3: And then I know.
- 21:27Speaker 5: For my other honorable mention, I just wanted to shout
- 21:32Speaker 5: out one of my favorite releases of the year, another
- 21:34Speaker 5: one that we knew going into twenty twenty five was
- 21:37Speaker 5: going to happen.
- 21:39Speaker 3: Or I don't know. Yeah, we knew it was going
- 21:41Speaker 3: to happen.
- 21:43Speaker 5: I think maybe going into the year, but I don't know,
- 21:47Speaker 5: because time doesn't really feel real anymore. One of my
- 21:51Speaker 5: other honorable mention is coming from Aero Video, and that
- 21:54Speaker 5: is their release of the two thousand and three marcusnes
- 21:58Speaker 5: Spell directed the Texas Chainsaw mass Here, which is one
- 22:03Speaker 5: of my favorite TCM movies outside of the original and
- 22:07Speaker 5: the four K looks phenomenal. I don't want to I
- 22:12Speaker 5: don't want to act like it doesn't. It looks great.
- 22:15Speaker 6: For me.
- 22:15Speaker 5: It was just the excitement of getting a great release
- 22:19Speaker 5: for this movie. I'm so happy that we had Steve
- 22:26Speaker 5: Barton and Michael Felscher return for a new, brand new
- 22:29Speaker 5: commentary track like they did on Jason x Jason Gozahell.
- 22:35Speaker 5: I was really shocked at how much this release really
- 22:40Speaker 5: felt to me, and I thought I was gonna feel
- 22:41Speaker 5: the same way about The Beginning, which they also released
- 22:45Speaker 5: hand in hand with this, but that movie actually went
- 22:49Speaker 5: down in my ranking. When I saw it on four K,
- 22:54Speaker 5: I was like, Oh, it's still good, but you know,
- 22:57Speaker 5: didn't love it. Oh wait, no, it wasn't with Michael Felscher.
- 22:59Speaker 3: It was with.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Christ mc gibbon from the Spooky Picture Show podcast on
- 23:08Speaker 5: that commentary track.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Correction. But yeah, I freaking love this release. Man.
- 23:12Speaker 5: It comes with the Chainsaw Reducs documentary, a bunch of
- 23:15Speaker 5: brand new interviews, that brand new audio commentary.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Just a huge fan of what they did here. Except
- 23:22Speaker 3: for the artwork. That's the only.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Yeah there was. I'd seen some concept artwork that had
- 23:30Speaker 6: been floating around around the time that this got released,
- 23:34Speaker 6: and I'm not knocking it by any means. I mean,
- 23:37Speaker 6: I'm just happy to have that movie in each of
- 23:40Speaker 6: our collections now at this point. But you know, it
- 23:44Speaker 6: always makes me wonder. I can't hate on the artwork
- 23:47Speaker 6: too much.
- 23:48Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I can't. It's just the artwork isn't bad.
- 23:51Speaker 5: It's just a little it takes a minute to realize
- 23:55Speaker 5: what's happening and what you're looking at.
- 23:57Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, it's.
- 23:58Speaker 5: A little bit of a it kind of does. I
- 24:01Speaker 5: appreciate new artwork, but I feel like I've seen some
- 24:04Speaker 5: pretty great key art pieces for that movie that could
- 24:07Speaker 5: have been used.
- 24:07Speaker 3: But it is what it is.
- 24:10Speaker 6: It's cool to see that the two thousands horror now
- 24:13Speaker 6: is finally getting tapped into where we've got you know,
- 24:16Speaker 6: we had that release last year. We've got Cabin Fever
- 24:19Speaker 6: coming up. We just recently got The Descent, you know,
- 24:23Speaker 6: some of the Saw movies we had gotten in four K.
- 24:25Speaker 6: So it's cool to see that they're finally getting their
- 24:28Speaker 6: dues and you know, of course in very nice releases.
- 24:32Speaker 5: It's about goddamn ton, tell them you want to go
- 24:37Speaker 5: ahead with with your other honorable mention.
- 24:39Speaker 6: Yeah. So the next honorable mention that I have was
- 24:43Speaker 6: released from Criterion, and that is none other than Sorcerer.
- 24:49Speaker 6: So William Freakin's Sorcerer. This one. I have been eagerly
- 24:54Speaker 6: awaiting getting a nice four K release for some time.
- 24:59Speaker 6: And I'm a big fan of this movie, big fan
- 25:02Speaker 6: of William Freakin just in general. The Tangerine Dreams soundtrack,
- 25:08Speaker 6: everything just as a whole has been everything I could
- 25:12Speaker 6: ask for.
- 25:13Speaker 3: This is one people were really excited about.
- 25:16Speaker 6: Yeah, so I can't recommend this one enough. It's it's
- 25:23Speaker 6: an experience keeps you on the edge your seat the
- 25:25Speaker 6: entire time. Obviously we have like the four K restoration
- 25:30Speaker 6: that comes with this one. There's Freaking Uncut, which is
- 25:33Speaker 6: a documentary that's on here.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Anything about anything, anything about William freaking is worth the
- 25:41Speaker 5: price of admission of whatever you're paying.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Oh my gosh. And it's just been this past year.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Another one that didn't make the cut was Cruising, which
- 25:51Speaker 6: is another movie that I absolutely love, and that four
- 25:54Speaker 6: K from Arrow is incredible. So on this there's a
- 25:58Speaker 6: new conversation between filmmaker James Gray and film critic Sean
- 26:01Speaker 6: uh Fantasy.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Yeah, from the picture show Yep, yep.
- 26:07Speaker 6: And then there's a conversation from twenty fifteen between Freakin
- 26:11Speaker 6: and filmmaker Nicholas Winding. How do you how you pronounce
- 26:14Speaker 6: his last name?
- 26:15Speaker 3: Nicholas Winding?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Refin Yeah, thank you with the assist And there's also
- 26:21Speaker 6: some archival audio interviews on here as well, plus some
- 26:24Speaker 6: behind the scenes footage. So you know, this is one
- 26:30Speaker 6: that I've really grown to appreciate a lot more as
- 26:32Speaker 6: time has gone on. And again, I can't recommend this
- 26:38Speaker 6: one enough. So if you can, you know, you pick
- 26:40Speaker 6: it up now, wait for one of the Criterion sales.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Definitely worth a spot in your collection.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Yeah, that's one.
- 26:47Speaker 5: It was on my list to pick up from the
- 26:49Speaker 5: last Criterion sale, and I just didn't. I Like, I
- 26:51Speaker 5: think I found some stuff in my store that just
- 26:55Speaker 5: took precedent over Criterion's always tough for me because I
- 27:00Speaker 5: know it doesn't go out of print yep. So there's
- 27:03Speaker 5: so much stuff that I can be like, I'll just
- 27:04Speaker 5: wait till next sale to get that. Sorcerer was part
- 27:08Speaker 5: of that.
- 27:10Speaker 6: I will say watching this movie again. Once I picked
- 27:12Speaker 6: this up immediately, Tangerine Dream is just a whole experience
- 27:21Speaker 6: listening to them and to hear it just in the
- 27:26Speaker 6: in the background of this film. I'm just a big fan.
- 27:30Speaker 6: I really enjoy it. I just recently watched Thief to
- 27:33Speaker 6: hear them, you know, scoring that film as well. It's
- 27:36Speaker 6: just incredible. Even the Keep. I just watched The Keep
- 27:38Speaker 6: recently too, That's another great one.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Yeah, they it's so funny, dude.
- 27:42Speaker 5: I haven't seen a lot of the Tangerine Dream composed movies,
- 27:45Speaker 5: but I know the music because I just tend to
- 27:47Speaker 5: go on, like so good their Spotify page and just
- 27:51Speaker 5: you know, speaking of dreams. Tapping into my top three,
- 27:58Speaker 5: this was a super tough choice for this year, and
- 28:02Speaker 5: I knew that there was kind of a definitive number
- 28:06Speaker 5: one released for me, and I kind of had a
- 28:09Speaker 5: couple different things bouncing between two and three here, but
- 28:15Speaker 5: so third place for my favorite release of twenty twenty five.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I really wanted to find something that I feel like
- 28:21Speaker 5: I heard a lot of when it came out, not
- 28:23Speaker 5: a lot of kind of after I feel like I
- 28:27Speaker 5: feel like the title I'm about to talk about people
- 28:29Speaker 5: thought was gonna be one thing, and then when they
- 28:31Speaker 5: got something else, the conversation kind of had shifted unfortunately
- 28:36Speaker 5: in kind of the general public, and I'm talking about
- 28:40Speaker 5: nine or nineteen nine, Oh my god, nineteen seventy one's
- 28:42Speaker 5: A Short Night of Glass Doalls released by Salulloyd Dreams.
- 28:47Speaker 5: This is two for two Soluloid Dreams. Probably three for
- 28:52Speaker 5: three with Hyena is safe. I just haven't gotten mine yet.
- 28:55Speaker 6: I can confirm three for three.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Okay, three for three. This was kind of a big
- 29:00Speaker 5: deal this year because Case of the Bloody Iris came
- 29:02Speaker 5: out and really, I think blew us all away. I
- 29:06Speaker 5: was not familiar with Case of the Bloody Iris, and
- 29:08Speaker 5: F four K was pretty much flawless, and coming from
- 29:13Speaker 5: a company that was brand new, I think everyone kind
- 29:17Speaker 5: of had the reservations about kind of what was quality
- 29:21Speaker 5: you were going to get, what are the movie choices
- 29:23Speaker 5: going to be like? And a second release for a
- 29:27Speaker 5: label like them is so important because it's it's cementing
- 29:32Speaker 5: who you are and what you stand for, and Celluloid
- 29:34Speaker 5: Dreams kind of it was like.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Hey, hold our beer. And they released.
- 29:41Speaker 5: A release in a slip box, a siloting slip box,
- 29:44Speaker 5: very similar to like You're probably very similar to the
- 29:48Speaker 5: Hard Boiled Shout Factory release with a booklet and this
- 29:55Speaker 5: was one that you had you seen.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Short Night of Glass Dolls before this release, right, you
- 30:02Speaker 3: were already familiar with us?
- 30:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean not in this nice a version. I
- 30:08Speaker 6: can't remember where I initially had saw it, but the
- 30:11Speaker 6: last time I had watched it before this release came
- 30:13Speaker 6: out was in a less than ideal version of it.
- 30:19Speaker 6: But yeah, I mean this again, it's elevating what they're
- 30:26Speaker 6: putting out there because the Case of the Bloody Iris,
- 30:29Speaker 6: you know, that was just a standard slip with that one.
- 30:32Speaker 6: This is the hard box case. There's just so much
- 30:34Speaker 6: more love that went into this release. I feel like,
- 30:37Speaker 6: at least compared to their first one.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Well, I love the variety so far.
- 30:41Speaker 5: You the four K is the slip cover or the
- 30:44Speaker 5: Case of Bloody Iris was a slip covered. This is
- 30:46Speaker 5: a hard box with the booklet. You have Hyen in
- 30:49Speaker 5: the safe, which is a blu ray with a slip cover.
- 30:52Speaker 5: You know, they've kind of done Each release has been
- 30:55Speaker 5: slightly different, but Short Night, Short Night.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Of Glass Dolls is a a auto lato.
- 31:01Speaker 5: Film and for people who really aren't familiar. His other
- 31:05Speaker 5: biggest project is probably The Night Treen Murders, which seven
- 31:08Speaker 5: released in four K this year.
- 31:11Speaker 7: Right, it was twenty twenty five, right, I believe the
- 31:18Speaker 7: seven release was the year before, and then eighty eight
- 31:21Speaker 7: Films had a release that came.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Out last year, Toddy Man Time Is.
- 31:26Speaker 6: And ironically eighty eight Films also did their own release
- 31:29Speaker 6: for this film as well.
- 31:31Speaker 3: They did, Yes, they did.
- 31:34Speaker 5: I think what I found most interesting about this movie
- 31:36Speaker 5: in general going into it is how kind of anti
- 31:40Speaker 5: Jalie it is. Doesn't have a black glove killer, there's
- 31:45Speaker 5: really not that much violence in general, but it has
- 31:48Speaker 5: one of the most nerve racking endings ever. It was
- 31:56Speaker 5: one of the most tense experiences I've ever had at
- 31:59Speaker 5: home watching movie, and it's an ending that makes you
- 32:03Speaker 5: want to watch the movie again because it you just
- 32:07Speaker 5: have to go back again and kind of watch it
- 32:09Speaker 5: from the perspective of where it's going as opposed to
- 32:11Speaker 5: going and blinded. Both experiences watching it knowing what happens
- 32:15Speaker 5: and watching it not knowing what happens, I feel like
- 32:17Speaker 5: are equal thrills.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would agree with that the four.
- 32:21Speaker 5: K looked fantastic. You have two audio commentaries on here.
- 32:25Speaker 5: One was with Autolato, the other one with the crew
- 32:29Speaker 5: from CELLULARID dreams. Let me just pull this up forget
- 32:32Speaker 5: linking on the names. Oh it was from film credit
- 32:36Speaker 5: Guido Hinkle. So you have two audio commentaries, a bunch
- 32:40Speaker 5: of featurettes of course the booklet, and it's a fantastic, uh,
- 32:46Speaker 5: just just incredible release, man, And I think it's a
- 32:48Speaker 5: movie when I was kind of introducing it, that people
- 32:52Speaker 5: were expecting one thing, and then.
- 32:55Speaker 3: I feel like it's also the case with House with
- 33:00Speaker 3: Laughing Windows.
- 33:02Speaker 5: It's like everyone was really excited for it because they
- 33:05Speaker 5: thought it was gonna be one thing, and then it
- 33:06Speaker 5: came out and everyone realized that it's not what they
- 33:08Speaker 5: thought it was. So the conversation sort of ended pretty
- 33:12Speaker 5: quickly when people were not for me.
- 33:14Speaker 3: Yeah, not for me.
- 33:15Speaker 6: Yeah, but you know, that was like one of my
- 33:18Speaker 6: white whales for ghiallow films I had been waiting for,
- 33:22Speaker 6: and I remember hearing it talked about for such a
- 33:25Speaker 6: long time, and then once work got out there that
- 33:29Speaker 6: Aero was going to be releasing it, that like my
- 33:32Speaker 6: hype and excitement went through the roof.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Yeah, it was really And it sucks, man, because I
- 33:39Speaker 5: never want to see people get excited because they're expecting
- 33:45Speaker 5: one thing and then receive it. It's not what they
- 33:49Speaker 5: were expecting. That that sucks. That's the worst thing I
- 33:51Speaker 5: think you can do set yourself up for that kind
- 33:54Speaker 5: of disappointment and also doesn't benefit the movie or the
- 33:56Speaker 5: studio or the label.
- 33:59Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's fair. I remember kind of being the
- 34:02Speaker 6: same way with not knowing what type of movie it
- 34:06Speaker 6: was with Night Train Murders when I had seen it
- 34:08Speaker 6: a while back, because I was familiar with Eldado's short
- 34:12Speaker 6: night glass styles and also who saw Her Die, which
- 34:14Speaker 6: I really recommend. But I thought at the time that
- 34:18Speaker 6: Night Train Murders was going to be a shallow film
- 34:21Speaker 6: and it's not. Yeah, it's it's definitely not that. So,
- 34:27Speaker 6: but yeah, I can definitely understand where maybe someone would
- 34:30Speaker 6: be coming from if if they were expecting one thing,
- 34:32Speaker 6: got something very different.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Yeah, but yeah, my number three this year short night
- 34:37Speaker 5: of Glass Dolls beautiful.
- 34:39Speaker 3: What do you got for your number three?
- 34:41Speaker 6: Man, I'm coming fully loaded, all.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Right, d let me see what you got back up, Chris, exciting.
- 34:50Speaker 6: I have, Oh my gosh, I'm so excited to showcase
- 34:54Speaker 6: this one. But I've got Arrow's release for Abel fer
- 34:58Speaker 6: Era's Miss forty five.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Hell yeah, there.
- 35:01Speaker 6: It is in a in a chunky box set.
- 35:04Speaker 3: No less is getting the love.
- 35:09Speaker 6: Listen, I'm still holding out hope we'll get Driller Killer
- 35:12Speaker 6: at some point, but not a bad year if if
- 35:16Speaker 6: you're a fan of Abel Ferira, got this bad Lieutenant
- 35:21Speaker 6: already had King of New York. So I was so
- 35:25Speaker 6: happy to finally get this in not only four K,
- 35:30Speaker 6: but to get it, and you know, to be honest,
- 35:34Speaker 6: I'm kind of surprised. It's got a chunky box set
- 35:36Speaker 6: in all honesty, but I'm not complaining. So there's a
- 35:40Speaker 6: lot to love about this. If you like that gritty,
- 35:44Speaker 6: violent exploitation style of film, this is definitely it. I
- 35:50Speaker 6: would definitely consider this a cornerstone in his filmography. But
- 35:56Speaker 6: let's see what do we got. So we have on
- 36:01Speaker 6: this release, obviously the four K transfer, there's a new
- 36:06Speaker 6: audio commentary by Alexandra Helen Nicholas, The Voice of Violence,
- 36:12Speaker 6: a new featurette with film critic bj Colangelo. Yep, we
- 36:17Speaker 6: also have Where Dreams Go to Die, a new featurette
- 36:19Speaker 6: with film critic Kat Ellinger. You know, we were talking
- 36:23Speaker 6: talking a little bit about that earlier. There's some archival
- 36:26Speaker 6: interviews on here and those are really the main things,
- 36:33Speaker 6: and there's a couple of short films in the special features.
- 36:36Speaker 5: So I just want to say too, like, what an
- 36:38Speaker 5: incredible lineup whomever produced the bonus features for that release.
- 36:43Speaker 5: You know bj Colangelo I've followed for a long time
- 36:48Speaker 5: for her work with Slash Film. She also wrote along
- 36:53Speaker 5: with her partner, an incredible book that I didn't get
- 36:55Speaker 5: a chance to read in preparation for but about the
- 36:58Speaker 5: genre or the the kind of about the gender specifics
- 37:04Speaker 5: around sleep Away Camp, which is an incredible book I
- 37:07Speaker 5: think everybody should read. I'll make sure I linked that
- 37:09Speaker 5: in a bio, having Kat Ellinger, but then also Alexander
- 37:13Speaker 5: Heller Nicholas, who actually just this Christmas, I received two
- 37:17Speaker 5: of her books to read this year, So what an
- 37:21Speaker 5: incredible stack of contributors for release, like like Miss forty.
- 37:29Speaker 6: Five even just look at it now. It just makes
- 37:34Speaker 6: me so happy to finally have this one.
- 37:36Speaker 5: And I want to just real quick. I mean, I
- 37:39Speaker 5: don't know how much you've taken the plunge into that release,
- 37:43Speaker 5: but one of the things that was so crazy to
- 37:49Speaker 5: me kind of diving into the movie and dinning into
- 37:52Speaker 5: the bonus features. So I wasn't I've seen the movie,
- 37:55Speaker 5: but I didn't know a lot about it, But learning
- 37:57Speaker 5: about I think I don't know if you say her
- 38:00Speaker 5: name is Zoe or Zoe Lund, but just kind of
- 38:05Speaker 5: the unfortunate incident with her. She passed away very young,
- 38:10Speaker 5: tragic thirty seven years old man and some of the stories.
- 38:15Speaker 5: There's an interview on that disc with Abel Ferrera kind
- 38:18Speaker 5: of talking about not not specifically with her, but kind
- 38:22Speaker 5: of talking about some of the kind of rougher edges
- 38:28Speaker 5: of kind of her addictions that were popping up on
- 38:30Speaker 5: set and stuff. And it's really really tough to hear,
- 38:34Speaker 5: you know, because she's pretty stunning in this role.
- 38:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know, it's it's a film. Especially with
- 38:44Speaker 6: some of the films that Ferrara's put out in the past,
- 38:48Speaker 6: it almost makes you wonder if these films would be
- 38:50Speaker 6: able to be made today, just because I feel like
- 38:53Speaker 6: the content that they tackle, it's just definitely pushing the envelope,
- 38:58Speaker 6: especially for that time was early eighties, and but there's
- 39:03Speaker 6: something to be said about I love for Ara's work
- 39:07Speaker 6: because it captures that really gritty, grimy feel to New
- 39:12Speaker 6: York and that's just something that I just feel like
- 39:15Speaker 6: we don't really get that aesthetic anymore in more like
- 39:19Speaker 6: modern film.
- 39:20Speaker 3: So yeah, not at all. Oh love it at all.
- 39:26Speaker 3: But that Yeah, that that's an incredible release.
- 39:28Speaker 5: Man, that that was a big one in between Era
- 39:33Speaker 5: with that and some of the work that Vinegar Syndrome's
- 39:35Speaker 5: been doing with some able FORER Era stuff. It's I
- 39:38Speaker 5: think they just put out in December their Slate Cinematograph
- 39:42Speaker 5: put out an able for ERA title. I'm pretty sure.
- 39:45Speaker 5: I just forget which one it was. Let me take
- 39:48Speaker 5: a look off fan.
- 39:49Speaker 3: I forget. I think it was cinematic.
- 39:51Speaker 5: I think it was the last Cinematograph announcement was an
- 39:54Speaker 5: able for ERA.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Film. If I'm wrong, then you can throw me out
- 40:02Speaker 3: a window.
- 40:04Speaker 6: Hopefully it doesn't come down to that. Just all right, Chris, anyways,
- 40:07Speaker 6: before you do that, Yeah, what's what's that next release
- 40:11Speaker 6: that you got on deck?
- 40:13Speaker 5: So, speaking of controversy that I don't agree with number
- 40:17Speaker 5: number two, I had to pick one of my favorite
- 40:18Speaker 5: movies of all time, getting a release that was out
- 40:25Speaker 5: of left field from a company that none of us
- 40:26Speaker 5: were expecting. I was very excited about it because I
- 40:29Speaker 5: was familiar with the company who put this out, and
- 40:33Speaker 5: I'm very happy to see the success that they've gained
- 40:40Speaker 5: from this release and from a couple other releases that
- 40:42Speaker 5: they've announced. I think that a lot of the criticism
- 40:47Speaker 5: towards this is kind of unwarranted, but you know, the
- 40:53Speaker 5: it can be a rough place. I'm talking about Ignite
- 40:55Speaker 5: Film's release of Reanimator, which was probably one of the
- 41:03Speaker 5: biggest announcements of the year, and it got a bunch
- 41:09Speaker 5: of slack from people due to the costs, and I
- 41:15Speaker 5: don't know, I don't agree, I don't agree with them.
- 41:18Speaker 6: It was I felt like when the announcement came out,
- 41:21Speaker 6: it was out of left field because it wasn't at
- 41:24Speaker 6: least for me, I wasn't super familiar with the label
- 41:27Speaker 6: prior to this announcement. What do you think did that
- 41:32Speaker 6: live up for you?
- 41:34Speaker 3: Yeah? Absolutely?
- 41:36Speaker 5: You know, Ignite Films put it out in the US
- 41:38Speaker 5: and Second Site released a film in the UK, and
- 41:42Speaker 5: I know that there was kind of some issues with
- 41:46Speaker 5: Second Site enabling it out to US retailers with Ignite,
- 41:51Speaker 5: but the work that Ignite did here is incredible, and
- 41:55Speaker 5: they're a company who hadn't really had the chance yet
- 41:58Speaker 5: to put out anything too crazy. You know, they did
- 42:02Speaker 5: a g I Joe documentary, and then they did I
- 42:05Speaker 5: think their first release was Now I'm blanking right when
- 42:11Speaker 5: I start talking about it, my brain's like, no, you
- 42:14Speaker 5: don't remember, uh, Like Invaders from Mars Okay was the
- 42:21Speaker 5: first release I remember them doing. And I feel like
- 42:24Speaker 5: people were People were shocked more because it wasn't coming
- 42:29Speaker 5: from the big label. That's that's where kind of the
- 42:32Speaker 5: initial shock was. It wasn't coming from Aero Video had
- 42:36Speaker 5: lost the rights between the Blu ray and the four
- 42:38Speaker 5: K at some point people were upset that that wasn't happening.
- 42:42Speaker 5: But the amount of attention Ignite has gained since this,
- 42:45Speaker 5: and now they've announced Bride of re Animator.
- 42:48Speaker 3: I can't wait, very excited for that. That's gonna be.
- 42:51Speaker 5: We should have pre orders probably within the next couple
- 42:53Speaker 5: of months for that.
- 42:54Speaker 6: I think we're in good hands with the Night Films.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I mean, you got this incredibly chunk key
- 43:01Speaker 5: box release. The four K transfer looks phenomenal. There's a
- 43:07Speaker 5: Reanimator at forty booklet in here that's really really nice.
- 43:11Speaker 5: There's some really great new interviews and insights. Especially there's
- 43:17Speaker 5: one that I love about re Animator, the live stage
- 43:21Speaker 5: performance there's also a documentary on here about the Organic
- 43:26Speaker 5: Theater Company, which was Stuart Gordon's theater company back in
- 43:30Speaker 5: his pre film days. You know, I had a lot
- 43:34Speaker 5: of fun with everything that came with this release, and
- 43:37Speaker 5: the four K transfer is phenomenal. Like they they the
- 43:43Speaker 5: amount of work that went into this release, going frame
- 43:47Speaker 5: by frame, trying to clean it up while also kind
- 43:49Speaker 5: of maintaining a very filmic appearance, and it's not too clean.
- 43:56Speaker 6: It was like eye candy. The first time I watched it,
- 43:59Speaker 6: I couldn't look away because the transfer. I don't know
- 44:03Speaker 6: like however they went about it, but it looked breathtaking.
- 44:07Speaker 3: It was unreal, absolutely unreal, man.
- 44:09Speaker 5: And I feel like since the initial release, people have
- 44:14Speaker 5: kind of talked about this versus Second Sight and kind
- 44:21Speaker 5: of the price difference, and you know, I think this
- 44:25Speaker 5: was worth every penny. I think people will just find
- 44:27Speaker 5: anything to complain about. And I hope that, yeah, I
- 44:31Speaker 5: hope that this and Bride of re Animator continues to
- 44:34Speaker 5: keep Ignite films at the front of people's minds.
- 44:38Speaker 3: You know. I it's just very exciting for me, man.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Was this was a huge one.
- 44:45Speaker 5: And if it wasn't for the quality and the sheer
- 44:50Speaker 5: love that went into my number one. This would be,
- 44:55Speaker 5: this would be, this would be at number one, not
- 44:59Speaker 5: number two.
- 45:01Speaker 6: For me. Yeah, so I can't I can't argue that.
- 45:05Speaker 5: Well, I can't wait to see what you're pulling out
- 45:06Speaker 5: for number two.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Well, I figured this release is perfect for right around
- 45:12Speaker 6: the time of year that this this came out, and
- 45:16Speaker 6: that is none other than Stanley Kubrick's Eyes White Shut Man.
- 45:21Speaker 3: You bought that. Just see Nicole Kidman naked Kidding.
- 45:24Speaker 6: I am not going to confirm or deny that man
- 45:32Speaker 6: talk about eye candy not well Nicole Kidman.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Yes, perfect diving dude.
- 45:38Speaker 6: But let me tell you, whatever Criterion did to bring
- 45:46Speaker 6: out the best of this movie was front and center.
- 45:51Speaker 6: I'm not talking about Nicole Kidman.
- 45:53Speaker 3: And it just keeps going back.
- 45:54Speaker 6: Yeah, it definitely does. But oh my gosh, man, this
- 45:59Speaker 6: was another release that I have been pounding the table
- 46:03Speaker 6: for for such a long time, whether it was Criterion
- 46:08Speaker 6: or any other label. I was holding out hope that
- 46:11Speaker 6: we would finally get it this year, and we had
- 46:15Speaker 6: well last year, and they delivered this one. Blew me
- 46:20Speaker 6: away when I watched it. And let's see, so we
- 46:26Speaker 6: have new interviews with director of photography Larry Smith, set
- 46:34Speaker 6: decorator and second unit director Lisa Leoni, and archivist Georgina
- 46:40Speaker 6: or Jill. There's also archival interview with Stanley Cooper's wife,
- 46:48Speaker 6: and there are a few other featurettes that are on
- 46:52Speaker 6: here as well. What can I say, I feel like
- 46:59Speaker 6: Stanley Cooper films that they're being released under Criterion. They
- 47:04Speaker 6: definitely went the extra mile with ensuring that we're getting
- 47:09Speaker 6: probably the best this film we'll ever look in this format.
- 47:12Speaker 6: And I'm just so excitic to finally have this movie. Yeah,
- 47:19Speaker 6: another one that I can't recommend enough. You know, take
- 47:22Speaker 6: advantage of it on the next Criterion sale. This Sorcerer.
- 47:26Speaker 6: You're both great movies that get my highest recommendation.
- 47:32Speaker 3: I wasn't expecting to Criterion releases in a row.
- 47:36Speaker 6: I was kind of surprised at that. Honestly, I know
- 47:40Speaker 6: that most of the time. I think in past years,
- 47:44Speaker 6: I don't know if I would have covered them quite
- 47:47Speaker 6: as much. But listen, I gotta give credit where credits due.
- 47:50Speaker 3: No not complaining at all.
- 47:55Speaker 6: I don't want me to talk more about Nicole Kidman,
- 47:58Speaker 6: isn't it I've seen? Yeah?
- 48:01Speaker 3: Right, I like Milk.
- 48:03Speaker 6: I don't know how I feel about that.
- 48:08Speaker 5: I just feel like Criterion gets the shaft a lot
- 48:10Speaker 5: of times with their There's people who review them very positively,
- 48:14Speaker 5: but I feel like when it comes to best of
- 48:16Speaker 5: lists or kind of like top favorites, I feel like
- 48:20Speaker 5: for some reason, they just kind of get shafted and
- 48:21Speaker 5: nobody mentions how good their releases are because I don't
- 48:24Speaker 5: know if there's it's like expected to be of that
- 48:27Speaker 5: quality or if people feel like they're just that prestigious one.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:32Speaker 6: I think being able to not only cover them, I
- 48:36Speaker 6: probably could have added a few more titles from Arrow
- 48:40Speaker 6: onto the lists. That was the tough part about trying
- 48:42Speaker 6: to narrow it down, but knowing what each of us
- 48:46Speaker 6: was bringing to the table for this discussion. I love
- 48:49Speaker 6: that we had an opportunity to highlight some smaller labels
- 48:54Speaker 6: that are doing incredible things. And yeah, like I said,
- 48:59Speaker 6: I mean, I guess it is what it is. I
- 49:04Speaker 6: can't I can't help, but I like what I like.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Yeah, no, yeah, absolutely, man, And I want to shout
- 49:10Speaker 5: out just a couple more kind of quick honorable mentions
- 49:12Speaker 5: before I get to my number one.
- 49:15Speaker 3: This wasn't planned it's just just riffing.
- 49:18Speaker 5: Yeah, but just some stuff from this past year that
- 49:20Speaker 5: I really want to kind of shout out Synapps with
- 49:23Speaker 5: their release of The Deadly Spawn.
- 49:25Speaker 6: Oh that's a good one.
- 49:27Speaker 5: Incredible, man, the movie looked phenomenal. I thought the hard
- 49:30Speaker 5: box release from them was incredible, and another one from
- 49:34Speaker 5: them this year, Trick or Tree, was absolutely incredible too.
- 49:41Speaker 5: Fantastic releases from Synaps and Red Shirt Pictures this year.
- 49:45Speaker 6: Was was Rumpel Stilt Skin that was this year, wasn't it?
- 49:48Speaker 3: That was parlier?
- 49:50Speaker 5: Yeah, Terror Vision, Rumble Stilt Skin. Shout out to TerrorVision,
- 49:53Speaker 5: Shout out to Terror Vision, Shout out to someone's favorite productions,
- 49:56Speaker 5: our producer Ryan from Disconnected, who produced a whole bunch
- 50:01Speaker 5: of bonus features for that release. That's an absolute stunner.
- 50:06Speaker 5: Another big one for me that I know a lot
- 50:08Speaker 5: of people were disappointed in Screen Factory's release of the
- 50:12Speaker 5: Mario Baba Collection.
- 50:16Speaker 6: I'm so happy to have.
- 50:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that was I mean, I was a little butt
- 50:19Speaker 5: hurt that it was two hundred dollars and then when
- 50:23Speaker 5: they were switching over to Groove, it dropped it like
- 50:25Speaker 5: almost one hundred dollars. I was a little upset about that,
- 50:28Speaker 5: but what can I do?
- 50:30Speaker 6: No, it's it's it's not for Scream Factory, it's for Mariobaba.
- 50:35Speaker 3: Just put it that way. Yeah, I put out the
- 50:36Speaker 3: money for Mario what he would want.
- 50:41Speaker 5: But yeah, there's just so much great stuff this year
- 50:44Speaker 5: to shout out. It was really difficult to nail it down,
- 50:46Speaker 5: but I think.
- 50:48Speaker 6: I almost I just want to say before we move on,
- 50:51Speaker 6: the two that were very tough not to include on
- 50:54Speaker 6: the lists, where the house with laughing windows from arrow
- 50:57Speaker 6: and then Cruising from Herrow. Yeah, I've won thief Thiefs
- 51:02Speaker 6: another one.
- 51:02Speaker 5: I've watched so many best of Physical Media release videos
- 51:06Speaker 5: the last couple of days, and those are always on
- 51:08Speaker 5: there well represented.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I think a lot of people with Mario Bava.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Set kind of didn't get anyone on anyone's radar because
- 51:14Speaker 5: there's no four k's in there. To me, I'm just
- 51:19Speaker 5: happy to have a bunch of it's on your other
- 51:22Speaker 5: side on your Oh.
- 51:25Speaker 6: I was just trying to see if there's any other
- 51:26Speaker 6: ones missing, because.
- 51:30Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I would also give it to like
- 51:32Speaker 5: the High Tension set from seven Limbertobaba Cauldron, also doing
- 51:37Speaker 5: Bravito Yallo from Libertobava. It was a great year for
- 51:41Speaker 5: Bava on Physical.
- 51:42Speaker 6: Martyrs from Eureka. I thought that was a really great release.
- 51:46Speaker 5: Umbrella doing the French extremity collections. They've released four five,
- 51:51Speaker 5: six seven movies between those two volumes that were incredible,
- 51:54Speaker 5: including In My Skin and Uh Martyrs and High Tension
- 52:03Speaker 5: and a whole bunch of a whole bunch of great
- 52:06Speaker 5: French extremity from from Umbrella, as well as a bunch
- 52:08Speaker 5: of other stuff they've done this year.
- 52:10Speaker 6: I also want to plug from one on one Films
- 52:13Speaker 6: Bad Lieutenant.
- 52:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Bad Lieutenant.
- 52:15Speaker 5: I got mine from Keno, but yeah, the one on
- 52:17Speaker 5: one films one is also very.
- 52:19Speaker 3: We also got Castle Freak this year from One on
- 52:21Speaker 3: one Films.
- 52:24Speaker 5: You know so I love Castle Free Yeah, man, Castle
- 52:26Speaker 5: Freak rules, dude, so so much to shout out and
- 52:30Speaker 5: it's it's very It's a near impossible task to say
- 52:33Speaker 5: that any list I'm giving you is concrete.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Anything can kind of swap in and out.
- 52:38Speaker 6: Can I just plug eighty eight films before we move on?
- 52:42Speaker 6: Only if you want to, I do, And I'm in
- 52:46Speaker 6: shout out to eighty eight Films. They do great things.
- 52:48Speaker 6: I love I love their releases. I'm just gonna leave
- 52:57Speaker 6: it at that. I can think of that it they
- 53:01Speaker 6: got Night Train, Murders, Murder Rock, There's too many to name.
- 53:05Speaker 3: There was a lot, Oh my god, there was so much.
- 53:08Speaker 3: What was it? What's the one? Nine guests for a
- 53:12Speaker 3: crime crime?
- 53:13Speaker 6: Yep?
- 53:13Speaker 5: That was that was a standout this year. Uh, Species
- 53:17Speaker 5: on four K from them? I believe that was twenty
- 53:20Speaker 5: twenty five.
- 53:21Speaker 3: I think it was well Rats leaving off rats Man, Yeah,
- 53:26Speaker 3: Rats Terror.
- 53:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 5: It's it's hard because I'm such a severin fanboy, but
- 53:31Speaker 5: eighty eight Films did do incredible work with them.
- 53:35Speaker 6: Oh last one, because I'm floored that this actually came
- 53:40Speaker 6: out from Mascar Video, Hackle Lantern.
- 53:43Speaker 3: Oh my god on four K.
- 53:45Speaker 6: What a journey, the highs and low that came with
- 53:48Speaker 6: I didn't pre order it, but the highs and low
- 53:51Speaker 6: that came with this release. And let's just say, we
- 53:53Speaker 6: all came out and the better, the better side of
- 53:55Speaker 6: get through the experience. Yeah.
- 53:57Speaker 5: Why is nobody talking about Mascar Video putting out blood
- 54:00Speaker 5: on four K?
- 54:00Speaker 7: What the heck?
- 54:04Speaker 6: I'll talk about it, that's fair.
- 54:06Speaker 5: I'll talk about it on another another podcast episode in depth.
- 54:11Speaker 6: I'm ready by myself.
- 54:14Speaker 5: So my number one is going to I think, and
- 54:17Speaker 5: not not surprise anybody. I've been a longtime collector of
- 54:21Speaker 5: Grindhouse m they I like where this is going, consistently
- 54:26Speaker 5: been one of my favorite labels to collect. They actually
- 54:30Speaker 5: just put out something for preorder today yesterday that I
- 54:33Speaker 5: still need to get.
- 54:35Speaker 3: But last year, Hollywood or twenty twenty.
- 54:39Speaker 5: Four, I think it was Hollywood nine zero two eight
- 54:42Speaker 5: was one of my favorite releases of the year. I
- 54:45Speaker 5: couldn't talk well enough on that film, and they had
- 54:50Speaker 5: been teasing something for a long time that finally landed
- 54:53Speaker 5: in twenty twenty five. And of course I'm talking about
- 54:56Speaker 5: the Lucio Folges the Beyond four K, a release from Grindhouse.
- 55:04Speaker 5: I mean, I don't really know what more to say
- 55:10Speaker 5: about this. This thing is massive. It comes with a
- 55:15Speaker 5: four K three.
- 55:16Speaker 3: Blu rays, a DVD, a CD.
- 55:19Speaker 5: Absolutely the most comprehensive probably release of any Lucio Fulci
- 55:25Speaker 5: film ever on physical media. The four K looks miraculous.
- 55:33Speaker 5: There's so many interviews on here. You also have the
- 55:36Speaker 5: Composer's cut, which is the kind of reimagined score from
- 55:40Speaker 5: Fabio Fritzi, with three separate audio commentary tracks on here.
- 55:45Speaker 5: You also have the bonus DVD, which is seven Doors
- 55:48Speaker 5: of Death, which is the Aquarius Releasing version. You also
- 55:53Speaker 5: have the bonus CD, of course, which is the new
- 55:55Speaker 5: track for the composer's cut. Just fucking dude, such a
- 56:01Speaker 5: great release. There's a one hundred page booklet in here.
- 56:05Speaker 5: Absolute baller, dude, Like this release is why I collect
- 56:09Speaker 5: physical media.
- 56:10Speaker 6: Oh, without a doubt that I have so much love
- 56:15Speaker 6: for that release. It's not even funny.
- 56:18Speaker 5: It's my every time I come into my movie room, man,
- 56:20Speaker 5: because Grindhouse is like eye level on my shelf.
- 56:23Speaker 3: Every time I come in here, I have to look
- 56:24Speaker 3: at this. Dude.
- 56:25Speaker 6: I just it's like a work of art.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I love it.
- 56:28Speaker 5: Man, It's unreal. And this is the first time they
- 56:30Speaker 5: had ever done anything like this. I'm really hoping that
- 56:33Speaker 5: physically this is what we're gonna get for a kind
- 56:36Speaker 5: of a Holocaust in twenty twenty six.
- 56:39Speaker 6: I'm hoping Fulci lives.
- 56:42Speaker 5: FULTI does live. But this is another release that I
- 56:45Speaker 5: think really kind of The Grindhouse releasing was always in
- 56:50Speaker 5: the kind of cult area very well. I mean Hollywood
- 56:57Speaker 5: nine OO two eight and see a lot of people
- 56:59Speaker 5: talking about even the year before they released Death Game,
- 57:03Speaker 5: not a lot of people really talked about it. They've
- 57:06Speaker 5: put out Cannibal Holocaust was probably the most noticeable with
- 57:09Speaker 5: Cannibal Pharaoh and Captain's Brain Pieces. Yeah, so they have
- 57:14Speaker 5: a couple, you know, really kind of really well known releases,
- 57:21Speaker 5: but I think The Beyond really kind of pushed them
- 57:24Speaker 5: into that next level of public attention from collectors. And
- 57:28Speaker 5: I'm so happy that people have gotten exposed to them
- 57:32Speaker 5: because this is kind of an ideal example of the
- 57:35Speaker 5: quality and the effort that goes into everything that they do.
- 57:40Speaker 5: And I wish Grindhouse Releasing and everybody associated with them
- 57:45Speaker 5: only the best moving forward. Man, They're you know, I'm
- 57:48Speaker 5: still gonna be there buying every single release.
- 57:51Speaker 6: So what you're telling me is that there's a chance
- 57:53Speaker 6: that we could get pieces on four kN that same format.
- 57:57Speaker 5: I mean, only if it comes in like the puzzle box,
- 58:04Speaker 5: you know, because I'm kind of hoping that Cannibal Holocaust
- 58:07Speaker 5: it just comes in like like a box of flesh.
- 58:15Speaker 5: That's right, Like what are you gonna you know, The
- 58:17Speaker 5: Beyond does the Book of Ibon, so it's like how
- 58:19Speaker 5: do you It's how do you? How do you theme
- 58:23Speaker 5: it better for accountable Holocaust? You just got to put
- 58:25Speaker 5: it in some skin, you know what I mean? Flesh
- 58:28Speaker 5: it up. Long live the New Flesh.
- 58:31Speaker 6: Oh my god, Well, I don't know. You know, that's
- 58:38Speaker 6: that's quite an ambitious release. Then if that's the case,
- 58:43Speaker 6: who are.
- 58:43Speaker 3: They going to get the flesh from?
- 58:46Speaker 6: I don't want to know.
- 58:48Speaker 5: It'll be like the Anchor Bay Evil Dead releases, you know,
- 58:51Speaker 5: the Necronomicon ones that after ten years just kind of
- 58:54Speaker 5: started melting in people's.
- 58:59Speaker 6: Oh my god, those things look so nasty now.
- 59:03Speaker 5: But anyway, that's my number one. I doubt you're going
- 59:06Speaker 5: to be better than mine.
- 59:07Speaker 6: But oh come on, come on now, Okay, this is
- 59:12Speaker 6: one I would say it's it's probably neck and neck
- 59:16Speaker 6: in my eyes between this and The Beyond, But both
- 59:20Speaker 6: of these releases, it's felt like an eternity for us
- 59:24Speaker 6: to actually get these on physical media, and that is
- 59:29Speaker 6: none other. So my number one choice is Possession.
- 59:32Speaker 3: That thing is a chunk.
- 59:34Speaker 6: Look at this, it's a unit. Man, Damn, you could
- 59:39Speaker 6: kill somebody with this. It's beautiful. This was well worth
- 59:46Speaker 6: the wait. I don't even know where to begin on this.
- 59:50Speaker 6: I I don't really feel like I've I've given this
- 59:53Speaker 6: the right amount of attention, but this definitely was was
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: for the longest time. This is one of my more
- 1:00:02Speaker 6: anticipative releases, and second site definitely delivered. Outside of this
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: just being the equivalent of like home security in case
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: anyone breaks in.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: That's how I feel about my umbrella super Mario Brothers.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: Yeah, yep, yep. I would have to say it's not
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: too far off from that. So this release is absolutely
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: stacked with There's a few new audio commentaries on here,
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: one of which is from Alexandra Heller Nicholas and Alison Taylor.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: There are a number of I believe existing audio commentaries
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: on here as well. There's also a new audio commentary
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: by Daniel byrd in Manuela Lasac. Let's see what else
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: we got on here. We also got the Future at
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: the Shadow We carry Uh from Cat Ellinger. There's an
- 1:01:07Speaker 6: archival documentary on here from the director and the Other
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: Side of the Wall, which is the making of Possession.
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: This movie is just batshit crazy. Chris. I know you
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: said you have a different release, correct.
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: I have the Blu ray the Velvet box or not velvet,
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: whatever that material.
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: Is, because there was that there was that one? And
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: then wasn't there an Umbrella release as well?
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: Yeah, there's an Umbrella release. Okay, So I mean it's
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: a four K.
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: Mins is a Blu Ray. It's like the it's got
- 1:01:50Speaker 5: like a fur texture of mine does.
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: Okay, It's it's good to have options, right.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: Mine. I'm I'm so happy I didn't agree. Mind comes with.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: I just prefer the Actually, you know, I just based
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: on some comparisons, I kind of like the look of
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: the Blu Ray over the look of some of.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: The four k's.
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: But that's just going off of screenshots I've seen from people.
- 1:02:19Speaker 5: It's just one of those movies that, like, I didn't
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: really feel the the need like, oh I have to upgrade.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: It's not a movie that I frequent, you know, throw
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: on on a on a Tuesday afternoon.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: You know, yeah, you gotta be in the right mood.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: But I will say yet again, for people listening, if
- 1:02:35Speaker 5: you're seeing names like Alexander Heller, Nicholas and Kat Ellinger
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: on a release, it's best to perk your ears and
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: pay attention because there's some incredible people being being asked
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: to contribute to these releases, and Second Sight knows better
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: than a lot who to commission for works like these.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: In a movie like Possession, you know, you want to
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: really get people who who understand and and have a
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: and have an appreciation and appreciation and a language to
- 1:03:10Speaker 5: speak on the movie. Because Possession is not an easy
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: movie to digest. No, so when you're when you're producing
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: bonus features for a film like that and for a
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: release like that, you really have to.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: You really have to walk.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: A fine line between who can talk about this movie
- 1:03:26Speaker 5: to help people better understand it, but to also understand
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: how much is being drawn from the story because it's
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: it's a pretty exhausting experience of a film that's incredibly
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: overwhelming the first time that you watch it.
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: Yeah, it's definitely a movie that I feel like it
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: definitely sticks with you if you've never seen it before.
- 1:03:49Speaker 6: It's quite the experience. Yeah, just a remarkable movie. Definitely
- 1:03:57Speaker 6: a very controversial movie that when it came out at
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: the time. But I mean, seeing this on the shelf
- 1:04:04Speaker 6: after finally getting this in just stunning man. Probably one
- 1:04:08Speaker 6: of the bigger collections I own or box sets.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: I mean, well, we'll be talking more about Possession later
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: in twenty twenty six here on beyond the blood, I'm
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: very imported.
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: I'm sure by then, I'm sure by then will I
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: will be able to give this release the love and
- 1:04:25Speaker 6: attention deserves.
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Man. You know, I don't really know how to.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: How to kind of even begin a conversation about twenty
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: twenty five without first just saying thank you to anybody
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: and everybody who's given this show a chance, I think
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: more than none. I just kind of have to talk
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: about some people that were very key and to.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: All of this, one being you, Steve.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: I don't think I really need to say that, but
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: I have to say that, you know, I mean clearly
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: appreciate it. Yeah, But also massive thank you to Ryan,
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: which all of you know from the Disconnected, for making
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: us a part of the Someone's Favorite Productions podcast network.
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: Somebody who's really pushed I know, myself and the show
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: and everybody that he surrounds himself with to always strive
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: for new heights. And he's somebody who's incredibly motivating to me,
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: somebody who I'm very honored to call like a working
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: partner and a friend. You know, what he's doing for
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: for physical media, what he's giving without getting back in return,
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: is incredible and I can never you know, sing the
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: praises of him as a friend and as a mentor
- 1:05:56Speaker 5: and as a partner enough.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: I appreciate him believing in us with this podcast completely.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Yeah, like absolutely.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: Also, for those who have been listening since the beginning,
- 1:06:09Speaker 5: since January of twenty twenty five, when Beyond the Blood launched,
- 1:06:13Speaker 5: I have to thank Chuck oh yeah for kicking off
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: the show with me. And you know what Chuck brought
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: to this show.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: His DNA is in every single episode, you know.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: He This was such a you know, I feel like
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: a wild idea for me and I kind of grabbed
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: Chuck and I was like, hey, you're going.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: To do this with me.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: He never had a choice, So.
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: I can't, you know, thank him enough. He no matter
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: where the show goes or what the show does, you know,
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: he is He's responsible for it being here in the
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: first place and getting with me and making this a reality,
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: you know what.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: I mean, It's part of the foundation, one hundred percent. Dude.
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: He's always there.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: And then again, just everybody who ever listens, you know,
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: even if you've only listened to one episode, or this
- 1:07:04Speaker 5: is your first episode, or maybe you're listening to this
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: back because you found us in twenty twenty six. Podcast
- 1:07:11Speaker 5: stats are very hard to track. It's very hard for
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: us to get an accurate idea of how many listeners
- 1:07:17Speaker 5: we have, and from what I can track, it's way
- 1:07:21Speaker 5: more than I ever expected to have. And you know,
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: at the end of the day, that's not the focus
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: of this show. I really don't care. It's just kind
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: of shocking to see sometimes a number pop up on statistics.
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: You're like, wait, hold on, that many people gave this,
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: you know, a chance. But to everybody who posted us
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: coming up on their Spotify wrapped, to anybody who's ever
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: tagged us in the story, to anybody who's ever shared
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: one of the episodes, thank you from you know, the
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: bottom of my heart for.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Supporting this. And it means a lot to us, that's
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: for sure. Yeah.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: Yeah, And especially you know, another huge thank you to
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: my wife for putting up with me and having to
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: you know, I know it's I'm not forcing her to.
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: She is the most supportive person I've ever met.
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: In my life.
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: And you know, she's the reason that I'm here right
- 1:08:17Speaker 5: now recording this and and and that this even exists,
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: That she believed in this idea of mind and was like, yeah,
- 1:08:24Speaker 5: you need to go after it, and she's you know,
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: only putting more pressure on me to go after this
- 1:08:31Speaker 5: crazy dream of mine. In twenty twenty six, so as always, can't.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: Thank her enough.
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: Very exciting.
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: I feel like I just want an Oscar man.
- 1:08:42Speaker 6: In my heart, you did?
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: I feel like I should be accepting something. Hold on,
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Hold on right.
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: People can't see this at home, but I'm currently accepting
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: my Oscar. It is the Grindhouse releasing copy of The Beyond.
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: That's what Lucio Faultchi would want anything that say to,
- 1:09:01Speaker 6: you know, just reflecting on the show in twenty twenty five, men,
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: I mean, this last year has been incredible. The amount
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: of supportive listeners and connections that we've built, you know,
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: along the way, has has just been astounding. I feel
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: very fortunate that we've really connected with so many people
- 1:09:25Speaker 6: over this last year and being able to share a
- 1:09:28Speaker 6: love of movies and physical media and special features. And
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: it's definitely became a place where, you know, movies can
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: become the centerpiece of conversations with those that we know
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: and in new phaces. So I think that that aspect
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: about it is really special and I'm just very thankful,
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: Like we've we've been able to do a lot in
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: this last year that I never thought would be possible,
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: and you know, to have so many great people out
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: there that are actively listening. We really appreciate it.
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, and I just want to go back and
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: kind of.
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: Thank you know, anybody outside of the kind of typical
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: you know, you and I for being involved.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: You know, this year we were able to interview.
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: Jesus and it's crazy even say this, Karen Fields, Catherine Comedy,
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: and Thomas Van Dell from sleep Away Camp, which was
- 1:10:23Speaker 5: absolutely yeah, absolutely remarkable.
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: We teamed up with in Psychopocalypse Publications, Mark Allen Miller
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: and his incredible team over there for our sleep Away
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: Camp episode, which we're gonna be doing again this year.
- 1:10:37Speaker 5: We can't wait to talk more about that. Massive thank
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: you to Anthony Cousins for hanging out with us for
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: two and a half hours discussing all things frog Man.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: Lauren Marie Taylor from Friday Thirteenth, Part two MM came
- 1:10:55Speaker 5: on and hung out with us. We did three hours
- 1:10:59Speaker 5: with day It's soder Grin.
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: This year.
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: Philip Escott from Second Sight Films. We did, you know,
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: two hours with him, which was remarkable.
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: It was a lot of fun.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Dude, It's insane.
- 1:11:15Speaker 5: And you know, we kicked off the second half of
- 1:11:17Speaker 5: the year with Adam Marcus, which was an interview we
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: teamed up with Jordan from the movie Den for It's
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: It's insane, dude. We also launched fear by Year, which
- 1:11:28Speaker 5: is Jordan's podcast that we teamed up with him to
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: kind of break down our favorite harror movies for year.
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: It's it's pretty in this moment, I mean, right now,
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: sitting down and looking at it, it's really hard to
- 1:11:42Speaker 5: like comprehend that all of that was in a single year.
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: It goes by so fast that it's so easy to
- 1:11:47Speaker 5: feel like how little you've accomplished, but really looking at
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: it and talking about it like that is like, holy shit, dude.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: Yeah, yep, I was gonna say, because I mean, we're
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: not too far off from Adam Marcus has his release
- 1:12:07Speaker 6: of Hearts of Darkness that's gonna be coming out soon.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: Is that through? Is that through? Uh? Is it Red
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: Shirt Pictures? Who's releasing that?
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Uh? Why am I blinking right now? I think maybe it's.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: Here.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: To anybody home, they're like, what is this guy talking
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: about Man, everyone's kind of like, what's going on? And
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: why is why are my posts coming up?
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: Oh? Here, right here?
- 1:12:43Speaker 5: I'm sorry, my posts are coming up. I was like,
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: why is this happening? Let's see, where's this Blueberry release
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: at Best documentary? Why is this so hard to find?
- 1:12:56Speaker 5: Did I miss something here?
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: I just know that it's on the horizon.
- 1:13:00Speaker 5: Went out this year. Man, It's like it's like all
- 1:13:06Speaker 5: of a sudden, I need to find something.
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: It's just not.
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: Popping up. I know I shared it. Maybe it's here. No,
- 1:13:15Speaker 5: it's not. Okay, is it here? Let's see. No, that's
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: just literally it's I clicked on a hashtag and it
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: says there's a hundred post and it's just our interview
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: with him.
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: Oh nice, I'm not complaining.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: So there's so much cool stuff, you know, looking back
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: on to to celebrate and shout out, and you know,
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: until this moment, I didn't really understand how much it
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: was that we did and very very thankful for every
- 1:13:54Speaker 5: every single second of it.
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: Well, I think I can say that this next year,
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: I think, well, twenty twenty six is gonna be twice
- 1:14:03Speaker 6: this big. No, you know, got some exciting stuff in
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: the works.
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: Yeah, there's there's so much coming we're very excited for.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: There's kind of gonna be a different way that we're
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: approaching talking about what's coming this year than we did
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: last year. But uh, this is you know, the first
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: kind of official episode of twenty twenty six. We officially
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: kick off season three in uh. Just so you're gonna
- 1:14:30Speaker 5: be listening to this on the fifth, eight days after
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: you listen to this, if you're listening to this on
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: day one, we're releasing our first actual episode of twenty
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: twenty six, the first episode of season three with Sergio
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: martinoz Torso, and we're gonna have it's so much fun. Yeah,
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: we're gonna have Ryan on from Disconnected for that and
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: you know, don't really want to lay it all out
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: on the table what we got coming in the next year,
- 1:14:59Speaker 5: but very very very excited for for all of it.
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: And I hope, you know, I hope if you're just
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: now discovering the show, that you know you stick around
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: because I think you're gonna like what.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: What we have in store for you.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: I'm here for it, I hope.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: So, I mean you are of the show, if you're
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: if you weren't here, i'd be a little upset myself.
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope everyone had a great New Year's any
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: any last words for the for the audience before I
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: jump out of a window again.
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: I hope it doesn't come down to that because I
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: need a co host. But no, I'm I'm just I'm
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: excited for everything that we have in the works for
- 1:15:46Speaker 6: us next year. Definitely, if you guys are listening, follow
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: us on social media, keep up with us. I can't
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: wait to see what physical media releases we get to
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: this next year. I have a feeling that probably some
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: some very very exciting movies they're gonna be in the works.
- 1:16:07Speaker 5: I've already spent too much money twenty twenty six, We're
- 1:16:10Speaker 5: only two days in.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: Be real, Chris, that is a personal problem.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: Okay, So yeah, anyway, As always, guys, make sure you
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: find us over on Instagram.
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: We're terrible at posting on there, but.
