- 0:04Speaker 1: Jill and Ce signing for seven two ten in AJ's mind,
- 0:09Speaker 1: seven point two in my mind, Shy, what do you
- 0:11Speaker 1: think of the move?
- 0:13Speaker 2: I think from a Blue Jays perspective, it makes a
- 0:15Speaker 2: ton of sense. Starting pitcher was their number one priority
- 0:21Speaker 2: this offseason, and they got a guy who can move forward.
- 0:24Speaker 2: It adds a guy who has front of the rotation
- 0:27Speaker 2: capabilities for an extended period, which is something that they
- 0:31Speaker 2: didn't have a lot of certainty with both Kevin Gosman
- 0:33Speaker 2: and Shane Bieber being eligible for free agency after the
- 0:38Speaker 2: twenty sixth season. So this is really the number one thing,
- 0:42Speaker 2: maybe the top priority for the Blue Jays this offseason
- 0:45Speaker 2: that they've gotten taken care of. Assuming that everything goes
- 0:48Speaker 2: well with the physical and gets finalized in the next
- 0:50Speaker 2: day or two.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Let's talk about the blue Jays end of the situation here.
- 0:58Speaker 1: How unlikely is this for them to be this aggressive
- 1:02Speaker 1: early on in the market. I read your article over
- 1:05Speaker 1: the weekend about how they like to be very calculated
- 1:08Speaker 1: with their projections, and this seemed to veer off what
- 1:11Speaker 1: they usually do, and I think most people, especially Blue
- 1:14Speaker 1: Jays fans, were excited about it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it doesn't it doesn't in some ways right,
- 1:21Speaker 2: because like, yes, they tend to be deliberate and patient,
- 1:25Speaker 2: but sometimes everything lines up for them. And they've liked
- 1:30Speaker 2: Dylan Sea's for a while. They've tried to trade for
- 1:32Speaker 2: him on a few occasions in the past, including as
- 1:35Speaker 2: recently as last spring, and obviously didn't happen. And this
- 1:41Speaker 2: was their guy, and so they would have done their
- 1:45Speaker 2: normal work, which would be surveying the market for all
- 1:48Speaker 2: the different options, and this fell. This came together in
- 1:52Speaker 2: a way that's a little bit faster than normal. This
- 1:56Speaker 2: is a bit a typical on Scott Boris's end too,
- 1:58Speaker 2: where he often takes things a little bit deeper into
- 2:02Speaker 2: the winter. But sometimes things line up. I think the
- 2:06Speaker 2: Blue Jays in their presentation to Cease, did a lot
- 2:10Speaker 2: of things that captured his attention, as to my understanding,
- 2:15Speaker 2: so everything lined up for them, and I think for them,
- 2:18Speaker 2: you know, Dylan sees a lot of the things that
- 2:20Speaker 2: they tend to value and prioritize in pictures. There's the
- 2:25Speaker 2: big velocity, there's swing and miss stuff, a strong baking pitch,
- 2:29Speaker 2: a history of durability. Those are all things they really value,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and sometimes things come together quickly, and so I think
- 2:36Speaker 2: that happened in this case, and it's not necessarily something
- 2:41Speaker 2: that we're used to seeing from them all the time,
- 2:44Speaker 2: but this is one instance where all the pieces seem
- 2:47Speaker 2: to line up fairly quickly.
- 2:50Speaker 3: I mean, it was great. If I'm a Blue Jays fan,
- 2:52Speaker 3: I'm like, we lost in Game seven of the World
- 2:54Speaker 3: Series and then oh yeah, we went out and got
- 2:56Speaker 3: one of the best starting pitchers on the market. The
- 2:59Speaker 3: team knew what it was one, it prioritized it, and
- 3:01Speaker 3: they went out and spent the money that they had
- 3:03Speaker 3: to go do this. Now I'm happy, I'm excited if
- 3:06Speaker 3: I'm a Jays fan, shy, but I'm also like, Okay,
- 3:09Speaker 3: can we still bring back both? Can we go out
- 3:11Speaker 3: and help the bullpen a little bit? Whether it's a
- 3:13Speaker 3: Fairbanks or whoever they want to go out and get.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Can they still make these moves because there's a Blue
- 3:17Speaker 3: Jays fan, I'm like, I'm very excited, but I need
- 3:21Speaker 3: one or two more moves and then we can be
- 3:22Speaker 3: really awesome.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I mean, look, I think if you're a fan, it's
- 3:27Speaker 2: never enough, right, just keep making more moves.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And it's not my money, Listen, it's not my money,
- 3:32Speaker 3: So spending no, and not mine either, And I think
- 3:35Speaker 3: you should make the team as as strong as possible.
- 3:38Speaker 3: You have a phone, you have a cell phone. I
- 3:40Speaker 3: do are you on Rodgers? Are you on Rogers communication?
- 3:43Speaker 3: Because isn't everybody in Cannon on Rodgers?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Very many people are yes.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Okay, So every time that you every time you pay
- 3:50Speaker 3: a bill, you're helping pay for Dylan Caesar's contract ten
- 3:52Speaker 3: years from now.
- 3:53Speaker 4: So thank you.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Look, I think that the money is there, and I
- 3:59Speaker 2: think they the ability is there when they're opportunity is right,
- 4:02Speaker 2: like the way that it's been explained to me in
- 4:06Speaker 2: the way that the Blue Jays have spoken about it
- 4:08Speaker 2: on multiplications, that when there is a business case to
- 4:11Speaker 2: be made, that if they can justify it, then they
- 4:16Speaker 2: can go do it. And so this doesn't rule them
- 4:19Speaker 2: out of anything else that they want to do this offseason.
- 4:23Speaker 2: There are a few more things they want to accomplish
- 4:25Speaker 2: this offseason, and there are obvious needs. Boba shed is
- 4:28Speaker 2: certainly key in that regard, but I don't I don't
- 4:33Speaker 2: think this cuts them off to anything, and I think,
- 4:35Speaker 2: if anything, it just gives them more opportunity because now,
- 4:39Speaker 2: like the major thing of the to do list is gone,
- 4:42Speaker 2: so now you can just focus on other areas and
- 4:44Speaker 2: can really just what I think that they're probably doing,
- 4:48Speaker 2: or what I think they should be doing, is just
- 4:50Speaker 2: looking ways to chase wins right now, right like they
- 4:54Speaker 2: can do, they can augment in a few different ways.
- 4:56Speaker 2: There's a lot of creativity that you can apply to it.
- 4:59Speaker 2: But just where are you going to get the most
- 5:01Speaker 2: wins for your roster? At this point?
- 5:04Speaker 6: Do the Blue Jays feel like they're buying low on
- 5:07Speaker 6: Dylan Cease? I know it's hard to say when you
- 5:09Speaker 6: when you put out a two hundred and ten million
- 5:11Speaker 6: dollar check, but you look at what they did with
- 5:14Speaker 6: when they got Gosman.
- 5:14Speaker 4: He had that.
- 5:15Speaker 6: Mega year for the Giants. They kind of paid high,
- 5:19Speaker 6: but they saw the trend of what Gosman has been
- 5:22Speaker 6: the entire time he's been there. Cease's eer was I
- 5:26Speaker 6: think right at the four and a half, but other
- 5:30Speaker 6: metrics would say it's closer to like a three and
- 5:33Speaker 6: a half, maybe even a three point four. So do
- 5:35Speaker 6: you feel like they've do they feel like they've bought
- 5:39Speaker 6: low on this even though they put out two hundred.
- 5:41Speaker 4: And ten million.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think that that I would necessarily say
- 5:47Speaker 2: bought low, but I think they bought what they're expecting
- 5:51Speaker 2: to get from him, right, And what we've really seen
- 5:54Speaker 2: in the past, you know a couple of decade decade
- 5:58Speaker 2: and a half or so, is the evolution in free
- 6:00Speaker 2: agency from teams paying for what a player has done
- 6:03Speaker 2: as it passed to them really trying to pay players
- 6:06Speaker 2: based on what they think they're going to accomplish.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And you know, a big part of.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Ceases interest in the Jays was, and probably from other
- 6:15Speaker 2: teams too, was know, what what do you think that
- 6:18Speaker 2: I need to do to get to the next level.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And you know, from the conversations I've had about him,
- 6:23Speaker 2: people say that he's immensely motivated. He wants to be
- 6:27Speaker 2: the best that he can be, wants to tap into
- 6:29Speaker 2: his ability, the way to fully tap into his ability,
- 6:34Speaker 2: And so some of the questions that the Bluejays were
- 6:37Speaker 2: asked was like what do you have in mind for him?
- 6:39Speaker 2: Like what what does how does he become that consistent
- 6:42Speaker 2: front of the rotation guy who's who's posting every season.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And so his camp liked what the Blue Jays had presented,
- 6:52Speaker 2: and so I think that that would have been what
- 6:54Speaker 2: the Blue jays envision for him, like whatever it is
- 6:57Speaker 2: that they presented him, the ideas that they shared at
- 6:59Speaker 2: that point in time, that's what helped Tip to scales,
- 7:03Speaker 2: and that is what I believe they're buying.
- 7:07Speaker 5: KP.
- 7:08Speaker 1: The website is Chubbishorts dot com. The brand is Chubbies,
- 7:12Speaker 1: but it's not just shorts.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Yeah, don't be fooled by the website's name. This is
- 7:18Speaker 3: a one stop shop for all things that I love,
- 7:20Speaker 3: swimming trunks, golf polos, and even flannels. It fits me perfectly.
- 7:26Speaker 3: One stop shop is the place to go.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yes, Sir KP. I've been wearing their flannel overshirt. It's
- 7:31Speaker 1: like my favorite flannel and your softest sweater having a
- 7:34Speaker 1: little baby. It's the best of both worlds. Classic flannel
- 7:37Speaker 1: look with the warmth of a fleece. And we know
- 7:39Speaker 1: it's that time of year to pull that off. The
- 7:41Speaker 1: Chubby's flannel overshirt. It feels like your favorite flannel, but
- 7:45Speaker 1: with the warmth of a cozy sweater. And for a
- 7:48Speaker 1: limited time, chubbies is giving our listeners twenty percent off
- 7:51Speaker 1: your purchase at chubbies with the promo code foul a checkout.
- 7:54Speaker 1: But if it's black Friday, Skip the code take advantage
- 7:57Speaker 1: of an even bigger markdown during their inclusive Black Friday sale.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Just head to Chubbs shorts dot com and make sure
- 8:05Speaker 1: to support the show by telling them that foul Territory
- 8:08Speaker 1: sent you.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Is there is there a belief also that they made
- 8:13Speaker 6: this move this early? They're like, Hey, we just won
- 8:16Speaker 6: the American League East. Now we want to be the
- 8:18Speaker 6: ones that like our foots on the American League East throat.
- 8:22Speaker 6: We want to be the one to make the first move.
- 8:24Speaker 6: Or was it just something that hey, you know what,
- 8:25Speaker 6: it came together because you talked about it. It's not
- 8:29Speaker 6: really like a Boris Mo. It's more like, hey, you
- 8:31Speaker 6: know what, we're going to kind of shop it around.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Or did the Jay say, hey, this is our time
- 8:36Speaker 6: to strike, So we're going to go after the one
- 8:38Speaker 6: guy that we really want and we'll show the rest
- 8:41Speaker 6: of the East. You got to start getting on board here.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think the time to strike peace
- 8:48Speaker 2: is probably there that we're going to show the American
- 8:51Speaker 2: League East. They tend not to think like that, at
- 8:56Speaker 2: least outwardly that they that they're sharing it. I think
- 8:59Speaker 2: that they're more of the of like how do we
- 9:01Speaker 2: just accumulate the most projected wins that we can, right,
- 9:06Speaker 2: And I think that again the acting early. If Dylan
- 9:10Speaker 2: Ceas wanted to wait a little bit longer than the
- 9:12Speaker 2: Jays would have waited longer for Seas, right They this,
- 9:17Speaker 2: I believe, is the guy they really wanted, and you know,
- 9:20Speaker 2: for for all the reasons I mentioned beforehand. So if
- 9:24Speaker 2: that was going to take a bit more time, they
- 9:26Speaker 2: would have played that out. But I think again getting
- 9:30Speaker 2: this done early just gives them more flexibility and more
- 9:34Speaker 2: to to be frank just just more time now and
- 9:36Speaker 2: more resources that they can devote to other areas to
- 9:39Speaker 2: explore other things, because again, the big primary ticket item
- 9:44Speaker 2: that they wanted is now off there to do list.
- 9:48Speaker 5: Okay, you teed me up perfectly.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Let's get to that off season to do list.
- 10:02Speaker 5: All right.
- 10:04Speaker 1: By the way, I've been knocked out already. Sorry to
- 10:06Speaker 1: interrupt you, but go ahead.
- 10:07Speaker 5: What do you got for it? Yeah?
- 10:09Speaker 2: So I think that the next one for them is
- 10:11Speaker 2: probably going to be a leverage reliever, right they you
- 10:14Speaker 2: can't have enough bullpen and everything that we see in
- 10:19Speaker 2: the postseason how much they value I think that's going
- 10:21Speaker 2: to be one of the next areas of focus. Uh,
- 10:24Speaker 2: then they're also going to look to add it bat
- 10:27Speaker 2: ideally an infielder, and obviously Bobachet fits into that range there.
- 10:32Speaker 2: But again, because they do have some flexibility on the
- 10:35Speaker 2: roster from a defensive alignment standpoint, they can do different
- 10:40Speaker 2: things and they can pursue an outfielder if they so wanted. Finally,
- 10:44Speaker 2: I think they're just going to keep on trying to
- 10:45Speaker 2: add pitching. Right they can again be creative in a
- 10:48Speaker 2: number of different ways. You just never have enough pitching,
- 10:52Speaker 2: as much as teams have it. It's such a cliche,
- 10:55Speaker 2: but you know, as much as teams have, you get
- 10:57Speaker 2: into the season, it always turns out that it's not enough.
- 11:00Speaker 4: And so is it.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Can they add a swing man? Do they add two relievers?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Do they maybe go find another another starter? Even I
- 11:08Speaker 2: think there are just ways for them to further build
- 11:11Speaker 2: out their pitching. It'd be something that they still want
- 11:13Speaker 2: to do.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Sure, when you say leverage reliever, are we talking Edwin Diaz?
- 11:18Speaker 3: Are we talking someone like that, like a big big
- 11:21Speaker 3: name Robert Suarez possibly, or are we talking more if
- 11:25Speaker 3: you kind of fall down the list a little bit,
- 11:27Speaker 3: Not that these guys are terrible, but a Pete Fairbanks,
- 11:32Speaker 3: a Amelia Pegan, a Luke Weaver that had had or
- 11:35Speaker 3: you know, coming a little bit cheaper than the big
- 11:38Speaker 3: name DS Suarez, even Devin Williams, I'll throw in there
- 11:42Speaker 3: as the big name guys. Are they looking at someone
- 11:44Speaker 3: like that or are they going to try and maybe
- 11:46Speaker 3: add two or three of the lower end people. Yes,
- 11:52Speaker 3: so I just put its Edwin d He just reported yes.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Not quite agent. I think you might be taking some
- 12:03Speaker 2: creative license there, But I think they're open to all
- 12:06Speaker 2: the different possibilities. Like if they can get if something
- 12:10Speaker 2: with Diaz was to work out and it fit within
- 12:12Speaker 2: their their valuations, then I think they would explore that.
- 12:16Speaker 2: And if it's something else, well they still have Jeff
- 12:18Speaker 2: Hoffman and Jimmy Garcia, then they're pairing another eighth inning
- 12:22Speaker 2: arm that gets swing and miss. I think the bottom
- 12:25Speaker 2: line is they're going to look for all They're going
- 12:29Speaker 2: to look at all the different possibilities. It is what
- 12:31Speaker 2: they do and it's why they get connected to everybody.
- 12:35Speaker 2: But they're going to look for somebody who gets some
- 12:37Speaker 2: swing and miss, ideally someone who is somewhat platoon proof
- 12:43Speaker 2: and you can throw them in there against lefties and
- 12:46Speaker 2: or righty's and someone who has some experience in the
- 12:50Speaker 2: back end of a game. Now is that eighth inning,
- 12:52Speaker 2: ninth inning. Look, I don't think they're going to rule
- 12:55Speaker 2: anything out. I really do think they're just chasing wins
- 12:58Speaker 2: at this point and trying to get as much value,
- 13:02Speaker 2: as much more as much talent on their roster as
- 13:04Speaker 2: they can. But the thing that like, starting like last offseason,
- 13:09Speaker 2: one of the points of priority for the that they've
- 13:11Speaker 2: made with their relievers was to just get guys who
- 13:14Speaker 2: get more swing and miss or more velocity into their bullpen.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And I think that that's been born out in the
- 13:20Speaker 2: type of pickups that they've made. Even if you go
- 13:22Speaker 2: back to last year at the deadline when it was
- 13:25Speaker 2: Dominga's and Varland who were their pickups there. Those are
- 13:28Speaker 2: two guys who both have big velocity and both get
- 13:32Speaker 2: a lot of swing and miss. So I'd expect the
- 13:34Speaker 2: Blue Jays to examine every element of that market, to
- 13:38Speaker 2: continue examining every element of that market, and whatever ends
- 13:42Speaker 2: up working out ends up working out.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Blue Jays are seriously in the mix for pretty much everybody,
- 13:48Speaker 6: is what I hear from Shiza VD so we're going
- 13:50Speaker 6: to go to the bat. We're going to go to
- 13:52Speaker 6: the bat preferably an infielder. Is that preferably an infielder
- 13:56Speaker 6: if it's bobashit? And if it's not it, is it elsewhere?
- 14:00Speaker 6: Because Alex Bregman plays a really good third base and
- 14:05Speaker 6: the opening at third allows Barger to play right field,
- 14:08Speaker 6: which obviously there's a Tucker talk and there's a lot
- 14:11Speaker 6: of shifting around. But if it's not Bobachett, is that
- 14:15Speaker 6: bat going to be an infielder?
- 14:19Speaker 2: Not necessarily, but it could be right. And I think
- 14:22Speaker 2: that's going back to what I said about the Blue
- 14:25Speaker 2: Jays could add in a number of different ways. They
- 14:28Speaker 2: because of as and Barger being able to move around,
- 14:31Speaker 2: and Ernie Clement being able to move around and having
- 14:36Speaker 2: Springer able to be at DHN in the outfield, the
- 14:39Speaker 2: same with Santander. The Blue just can just do a
- 14:42Speaker 2: lot of different things, and they can go for what
- 14:46Speaker 2: ends up being the best fit. That doesn't necessarily mean
- 14:49Speaker 2: they're going to get someone on the super high end
- 14:51Speaker 2: if Bobachett ends up leaving the club, but they can
- 14:55Speaker 2: examine all the different options that are there. And so
- 15:00Speaker 2: I think that just from the way that they're set up,
- 15:04Speaker 2: I think it makes sense for them to probably get
- 15:07Speaker 2: an infielder, probably one who can play second base, because
- 15:12Speaker 2: you can put him in as a shortstop. And that
- 15:14Speaker 2: looked pretty good for the two months we saw it
- 15:16Speaker 2: in September and October. But they can just play with
- 15:21Speaker 2: the opportunity based on the way that they can move
- 15:25Speaker 2: their existing pieces around.
- 15:27Speaker 4: The diamond.
- 15:29Speaker 3: SUI is, should the Blue Jays next year with Louis
- 15:32Speaker 3: Arland have the little thing that Fox had for Shoheyo Tani.
- 15:36Speaker 3: He's due up in three innings, It'll be like Louis
- 15:38Speaker 3: Arland will be warming up because is he warming up
- 15:40Speaker 3: officially right now in the offseason? And has anyone confirmed
- 15:44Speaker 3: that he can wipe his butt at this point in
- 15:46Speaker 3: the off season After all the innings he threw in
- 15:48Speaker 3: the postseason, how many times he was up that dude
- 15:50Speaker 3: was unbelievable.
- 15:51Speaker 2: For them, it was incredible, and you know, just in
- 15:55Speaker 2: talking to him, he was just like, I can just
- 15:58Speaker 2: keep going.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Look there.
- 16:02Speaker 2: He will obviously be managed differently over the course of
- 16:05Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty two, but they were certainly attracted
- 16:08Speaker 2: to his durability and the fact that he showed that
- 16:11Speaker 2: he could do that will obviously impact the way the
- 16:15Speaker 2: Blue Jays handle them, because they they will want to
- 16:18Speaker 2: use him a fair bit during the regular season, assuming
- 16:20Speaker 2: they will try to find ways to ensure he can
- 16:23Speaker 2: still do something like that again in the postseason should
- 16:26Speaker 2: the Blue Jays make it next season as well. But
- 16:30Speaker 2: it was really remarkable. There has been some loose conversation
- 16:35Speaker 2: about whether or not he gets stretched out a little
- 16:37Speaker 2: bit next spring and whether that's something they look at.
- 16:40Speaker 2: I don't know that there's any definitive conclusion whether they're
- 16:43Speaker 2: going to go that route or not at this point,
- 16:47Speaker 2: but you know, they've kicked around a lot of different
- 16:49Speaker 2: things with Louis Varland, and at minimum they know they've
- 16:53Speaker 2: got a very durable and reliable piece for their bullpen mix.
- 16:58Speaker 6: When you said pitching death because your third point on
- 17:01Speaker 6: your to do list, do they look at it as okay,
- 17:04Speaker 6: Chris Bassett gave us below a foury RA. He gave
- 17:07Speaker 6: us thirty one starts during the year, and he was
- 17:12Speaker 6: a piece out of our bullpen, a big piece in
- 17:14Speaker 6: the playoffs, but a piece out of bullpen. So do
- 17:16Speaker 6: they look at that pitching depth as something that okay?
- 17:21Speaker 6: It's important, but it's not that important. It's not a
- 17:25Speaker 6: Tatsuya My type of important. Or is it the whole
- 17:29Speaker 6: spectrum of where they're looking for pitching depth kind of
- 17:32Speaker 6: like you talked about the leverage reliever.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Yeah, so I.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Don't I don't think it's maybe on necessarily on the
- 17:38Speaker 2: high end unless they do something else with their staff.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I mean, but you know, Chris Bassett to me is interesting,
- 17:46Speaker 2: like he's a guy who definitely deserves a spot in
- 17:49Speaker 2: a rotation. What he did out of the bullpen I
- 17:53Speaker 2: think created some interest in what that would look like
- 17:57Speaker 2: full time if he was a reliever, and how versatile
- 18:01Speaker 2: a pitcher he is. I don't think he's the type
- 18:04Speaker 2: of guy who would want to bounce back between the
- 18:06Speaker 2: roles be go starter, reliever, back and forth as a swingman,
- 18:11Speaker 2: but maybe potentially he's open to something like that. He
- 18:13Speaker 2: was obviously super important to that clubhouse. He was really
- 18:17Speaker 2: tied to in a lot of way the artery system
- 18:21Speaker 2: of that team, where he was just a central part
- 18:25Speaker 2: of almost everything that was happening there. But is there
- 18:29Speaker 2: enough opportunity for him with the Blue Jays compared to
- 18:32Speaker 2: what he might do with other clubs? Good question, but
- 18:35Speaker 2: I think ultimately the Blue Jays just want to find innings,
- 18:38Speaker 2: you know, finding a minor league free agent like an
- 18:42Speaker 2: Eric Lower who can come up and emerge at a
- 18:45Speaker 2: key point in the season when you know your depth
- 18:48Speaker 2: is really being tested.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I think that's important.
- 18:51Speaker 2: The Blue Jayes do have some more internal pieces, be
- 18:54Speaker 2: it someone like Bowden Francis this year, who was trending
- 18:59Speaker 2: towards health towards the end of the season when he
- 19:01Speaker 2: ran out a runway and should be ready to go
- 19:04Speaker 2: next spring. There's a Ricky Tiedeman who's coming back from
- 19:07Speaker 2: Tommy John surgery and should be ready to go as well,
- 19:10Speaker 2: and he was one of the top prospects only in
- 19:12Speaker 2: the Blue Jay system, but he was a consensus Pop
- 19:14Speaker 2: one hundred prospect as well before it got hurt. So
- 19:18Speaker 2: they do have some depth, but I think they'll try
- 19:20Speaker 2: to just keep finding ways to add, be it on
- 19:23Speaker 2: the major league roster or on the minor league side,
- 19:26Speaker 2: that builds out the depth that they have.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I have a unique holiday gift idea. It is called

- 19:49Speaker 6: to do about it. Why would I not want to
- 19:51Speaker 6: give it to one of my loved ones in my life?
- 19:53Speaker 1: Give your loved ones something that actually lasts. That's right, Kratz,

- 20:22Speaker 1: and a personalized action plan built by clinicians, including nutrition,
- 20:26Speaker 1: supplement and lifestyle guidance.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Get after It, ft.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Faan sure you mentioned his depth. One of their big
- 20:33Speaker 3: pieces last year was Max Suers or have you heard
- 20:35Speaker 3: if he's pitching next year? Do we know anything about
- 20:39Speaker 3: his future and what he's going to do? Because he
- 20:41Speaker 3: performed well in the postseason for him, so have there
- 20:43Speaker 3: any talks maybe of a reunion or have we even
- 20:46Speaker 3: heard if he's going to pitch next year?
- 20:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he's going to pitch and he I
- 20:52Speaker 2: mean he basically said it just after the season and
- 20:54Speaker 2: then reiterated that in some comments to Ken Rosenthal after.
- 20:58Speaker 2: But the I think in terms of the Blue Jays,
- 21:02Speaker 2: I'm interested to kind of see where that goes and
- 21:05Speaker 2: how that fit is there. You know, Max sures are
- 21:10Speaker 2: at this point. May I mean if depending on health,
- 21:13Speaker 2: is he a guy you can count on to go
- 21:15Speaker 2: wire to wire orre there going to be some things
- 21:16Speaker 2: that that crop up the ways that you have to
- 21:19Speaker 2: keep them healthy. H And does that fit with what
- 21:22Speaker 2: the Blue Jays are doing? Do they again have enough
- 21:24Speaker 2: opportunity as things stand right now? The Blue Jays have
- 21:27Speaker 2: five starters in the rotation and maybe there's some movement
- 21:31Speaker 2: some way, shape or form that creates an opening, but
- 21:34Speaker 2: they're sort of full there. Does does Max want sort
- 21:38Speaker 2: of a part time role or want to wait for
- 21:42Speaker 2: an opportunity or is he going to go to a
- 21:43Speaker 2: team where they have a spot more open for him?
- 21:46Speaker 2: I think those are all fair questions. So I think
- 21:50Speaker 2: there was a lot of a lot of appreciation for
- 21:54Speaker 2: Max schures are not only what he did on the field,
- 21:56Speaker 2: but the way that he contributed in the clubhouse on
- 21:59Speaker 2: a number of level, the types of conversations said he
- 22:02Speaker 2: had with front office people in terms of their game
- 22:04Speaker 2: planning and information and the way that they assessed other
- 22:08Speaker 2: players and planned and all things of those natures. There
- 22:12Speaker 2: is a lot of appreciation for that. He very much
- 22:14Speaker 2: appreciated his experience with the Blue Jays. So there's a
- 22:18Speaker 2: two way element to that. But does that necessarily mean
- 22:21Speaker 2: there's going to be a reunion. I don't know at
- 22:24Speaker 2: this point. I still think that before that there are
- 22:27Speaker 2: some things that would happen before that ends up taking place.
- 22:32Speaker 3: So I might I may or may not see Max
- 22:34Speaker 3: on Wednesday. So can I tell him that Shay DAVIDI
- 22:37Speaker 3: said there's no chance he comes back to the Blue Jays.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I mean, I'd prefer that you didn't, because I don't
- 22:42Speaker 2: want him to throw something that time I see it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: But look, I mean, I think with the way that
- 22:51Speaker 2: he pitched it in the postseason, I mean he's cemented
- 22:54Speaker 2: a place in appraceive appreciation with Blue Jay fans for
- 23:00Speaker 2: will remember those contributions, especially that game in Seattle that
- 23:04Speaker 2: was something that well, it won't be soon forgotten, So
- 23:09Speaker 2: I think that's that's pretty cool. I think, look, we'll
- 23:12Speaker 2: see where this Blue Jays offseason goes, and I think
- 23:16Speaker 2: it's still at the beginning as opposed to the end
- 23:18Speaker 2: of it, even with such a major move as the
- 23:21Speaker 2: cease agreement. But I do think there's more to come.
- 23:25Speaker 2: We'll see, We'll see how much variation there is to
- 23:28Speaker 2: the rest of the roster, what kind of changes or
- 23:31Speaker 2: further editions are made, and then you know, maybe there
- 23:35Speaker 2: is a reunion in the offing down the road.
- 23:37Speaker 6: Do we have to make sure that we're not blinded
- 23:39Speaker 6: by their fact that they made at the Game seven
- 23:42Speaker 6: of the World Series that when we evaluate what Ross
- 23:45Speaker 6: Atkins has done for this team. I've been one of
- 23:48Speaker 6: the biggest detractors of any like I was not a
- 23:52Speaker 6: Ross Atkins fan. The moves he made, the fact that
- 23:55Speaker 6: he was getting rid of guys and not resigning guys,
- 23:58Speaker 6: and I felt like the law has kind of fell
- 24:01Speaker 6: on him. Now this past offseason, they went out and
- 24:03Speaker 6: got Sureser, Like you talked about Santander, and really Santander
- 24:08Speaker 6: was the big move and.
- 24:10Speaker 4: He didn't play much.
- 24:11Speaker 6: So was this really a positive season for Ross Atkins
- 24:16Speaker 6: because the players played well or because Ross Adkins made
- 24:19Speaker 6: a lot of really good moves.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Well, I mean it always comes down to the players,
- 24:25Speaker 2: right Like the players, as much as front offices can
- 24:29Speaker 2: do once they're between the lines, it's all dependent on
- 24:35Speaker 2: the players. But I don't think you can kind of
- 24:37Speaker 2: look at what the You can't divorce last season from
- 24:42Speaker 2: what the Blueg's had done over multiple years to get
- 24:44Speaker 2: to that point.
- 24:45Speaker 5: And I think.
- 24:46Speaker 2: That's the conclusion that you know, Mark Schapiro had reached,
- 24:51Speaker 2: was that twenty four went about as horribly as it
- 24:56Speaker 2: could have gone, but twenty four, being as bad as
- 25:01Speaker 2: it was, wasn't fully reflective of some of the good
- 25:06Speaker 2: work that had been done in advance of that, and
- 25:08Speaker 2: that twenty four was an aberration. And I think there
- 25:11Speaker 2: was certainly cause for concern with the way that the
- 25:14Speaker 2: window was framing up that Vladimir Guerrero Junior didn't get done.
- 25:19Speaker 2: And this may be narrative, but I do know some
- 25:21Speaker 2: people who think that the Vladimir extent Guerrero Junior extension
- 25:26Speaker 2: last April, and it's removing that as an issue and
- 25:30Speaker 2: definitively setting the Blue Jays window as like, this is
- 25:35Speaker 2: a team that's going to keep competing, this is a
- 25:37Speaker 2: team that's going to build around a cornerstone like Guerrero.
- 25:41Speaker 2: I think that was ended up being a factor because
- 25:44Speaker 2: when they got off to the slow start and we're
- 25:46Speaker 2: having some issues, it wasn't like everyone was thinking, Okay,
- 25:50Speaker 2: they're going to blow this up in a second, right,
- 25:53Speaker 2: Whereas if Guerrero hadn't signed, then that would have been
- 25:56Speaker 2: a conversation around it. And so I think all the
- 26:00Speaker 2: things end up being part of the Ross Atkins ledger.
- 26:04Speaker 2: And so when you put talented players together and then
- 26:08Speaker 2: you find a way to help them be successful. And
- 26:12Speaker 2: that's sort of the less discussed part of the Blue
- 26:15Speaker 2: Jay season, which is some of the changes that they
- 26:18Speaker 2: made to their game planning and the way that they
- 26:20Speaker 2: distribute information in their players, and some of the conversations
- 26:23Speaker 2: around how they attack different things, the evolutions there from
- 26:28Speaker 2: even defensive positioning, pitch recommendations, all those different types of things.
- 26:33Speaker 2: That is all part of what the Blue Jays did
- 26:36Speaker 2: last year. And so if you look at it as
- 26:40Speaker 2: they had learned some very very hard lessons in twenty
- 26:43Speaker 2: twenty four, but then applied them in twenty five and
- 26:48Speaker 2: made the best out of a bad year. I think
- 26:51Speaker 2: that you have to give everybody some credit. That includes
- 26:54Speaker 2: manager John Schneider, includes GM ross Atkins. I mean, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 2: if you're going to be blamed them for twenty four,
- 27:01Speaker 2: you can't not credit them for twenty five.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Well that was going to be my question. Is John
- 27:06Speaker 3: Schneider officially off the hot seat now? Because going into
- 27:08Speaker 3: the year, everyone was like, Oh, he's gonna be the
- 27:09Speaker 3: first one fired, and then they got off to the
- 27:12Speaker 3: terrible start and everyone's like, man, you know, everyone's looking
- 27:15Speaker 3: at their watch, going okay, is there going to be
- 27:16Speaker 3: a press conference today at two o'clock saying John Schneider
- 27:19Speaker 3: has been relieved to duty And next thing you know,
- 27:21Speaker 3: he's got them to the Game seven of the World Series.
- 27:23Speaker 3: So is he officially off the hot seat? Yeah?
- 27:26Speaker 2: I mean it may be done already, or if it's
- 27:30Speaker 2: not done yet, it's going to be done soon. There'll
- 27:32Speaker 2: be an extension for him and an extension for Mark
- 27:37Speaker 2: Shapiro as well. So I think all that hot seat
- 27:40Speaker 2: stuff that disappeared probably around last June or so, when
- 27:45Speaker 2: the team turned the corner and then didn't let up
- 27:48Speaker 2: and so you know, John Schneider actually deserves a ton
- 27:52Speaker 2: of credit and there was a very strong case for
- 27:54Speaker 2: him to be a manager of the Year in the
- 27:56Speaker 2: American League. You know, some people around the team were
- 27:59Speaker 2: quite frustrated that it didn't happen for him at that
- 28:02Speaker 2: point in time. But you know, the the type of
- 28:06Speaker 2: work that the Blue Jays did in transforming themselves out
- 28:09Speaker 2: of twenty four into the group that went into twenty five. Uh,
- 28:13Speaker 2: you know, a lot of that lands on him, and
- 28:16Speaker 2: he was very deliberate in the off season. A lot
- 28:19Speaker 2: of it was player driven, but it was running through him.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And I think that anybody questioning sort of his future
- 28:28Speaker 2: sort of did didn't watch what happened last year, right,
- 28:32Speaker 2: And so I think that that'll probably be resolved fairly soon.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Same with Shapiro.
- 28:37Speaker 4: Uh.
- 28:37Speaker 2: This is a team that has some stability, that's valued continuity, uh,
- 28:41Speaker 2: and is poised to continue with that two of the
- 28:45Speaker 2: key leadership spots.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Yeah, him not winning him not winning Manager of the
- 28:51Speaker 3: Year cost me an apology to Ken Rosenthal. So yeah,
- 28:54Speaker 3: that was a little fus He is one of the
- 28:57Speaker 3: first people at that nothing against Stephen Vogue, but first
- 29:01Speaker 3: of first, usually wins your Manager of the Year. So
- 29:04Speaker 3: I had to apologize to Ken Roosevelt, as Ken Rosenthal
- 29:06Speaker 3: has done many times as the Blue Jays.
- 29:08Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Hey, look, I think like there are two compelling cases there.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Let mean, the run the Guardians went on at the
- 29:17Speaker 2: end certainly impressive. But I think if you're looking sort
- 29:20Speaker 2: of collective body of work, degree of difficulty in the
- 29:23Speaker 2: between the different divisions, it's my eyes at least it's
- 29:29Speaker 2: And I wasn't voting on manager this year, but it
- 29:33Speaker 2: looked to me to be pretty clear cut.
- 29:35Speaker 5: Yeah, Snyder had my boat too, Shy. Good stuff.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Much more from Shy. He wrote about it the last
- 29:40Speaker 1: few days and on his Twitter account too. You can
- 29:42Speaker 1: check them out at Shi Davdi and you can check out.
- 29:45Speaker 5: His work in sports Net. Always appreciate your joining us, Shy.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Thank you. We'll talk to you soon.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Yeah, could catch it up, guys.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Be well, all right, let's talk about the Sea Steel
- 29:55Speaker 1: here for a few minutes. A couple key points here,
- 29:58Speaker 1: AJ that I'd love to get your thoughts on. Number one,
- 30:01Speaker 1: are the best days yet to come for Dylan Cees.
- 30:04Speaker 1: You get the classic complaints online about some of the
- 30:07Speaker 1: eras and even era plus is not being great, but
- 30:10Speaker 1: there's a ton of swing and miss right. We've seen
- 30:13Speaker 1: some ups and downs from him, So did the Blue
- 30:15Speaker 1: Jay sign of guy who is going to peak now,
- 30:18Speaker 1: much like say Zach Wheeler has done with the Phillies.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I think they are.
- 30:24Speaker 3: Y'all might disagree with me here, but I think they
- 30:26Speaker 3: are because the contract's done. He knows where he's going
- 30:31Speaker 3: to be at for the next seven years. And this
- 30:33Speaker 3: dude has unbelievable stuff. And Pete Walker, their pitching coach
- 30:36Speaker 3: for the Blue Jays, has been there a long time
- 30:38Speaker 3: and he knows how to get the most out of guys.
- 30:40Speaker 3: I mean, Kevin Gosman, he was pretty good with the Giants.
- 30:43Speaker 3: He went here has gotten better. Bast's been unbelievable since
- 30:47Speaker 3: he's got all these guys. There's so many guys, a
- 30:50Speaker 3: long list of guys that go to Toronto, and they
- 30:52Speaker 3: get better because of Pete Walker, because of their hitting
- 30:55Speaker 3: and pitching level. I don't know what it is, but
- 30:57Speaker 3: they seem to get better when they go to Toronto. And
- 31:00Speaker 3: I think he's going to figure some male with Dylan
- 31:02Speaker 3: Seas if you can ever figure out a way to
- 31:03Speaker 3: Getdylan SE's just those more fastballs so that he doesn't
- 31:06Speaker 3: have to throw a slider every pitch. This guy's a
- 31:08Speaker 3: limit for this guy, and I think they're going to
- 31:10Speaker 3: get more out of them.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree. Strike's a big thing. Strikes.
- 31:16Speaker 6: I mean, everybody will tell you if you're walking too
- 31:18Speaker 6: many dudes, it's always going to drag down your numbers,
- 31:22Speaker 6: your efficiency, all that stuff. But the strikeouts are there,
- 31:27Speaker 6: so can Pete Walker and more importantly, can Alejandro Kirk
- 31:33Speaker 6: get the most out of this guy? Alejandra Kirk will
- 31:36Speaker 6: be the starting catcher. He's going to be back there
- 31:38Speaker 6: every day working with Dylan Cees. Can he get him
- 31:42Speaker 6: as a he's a veteran now, he's he needs to
- 31:47Speaker 6: know what he needs to do. But you also look
- 31:48Speaker 6: back at his two years that he was getting SION votes.
- 31:53Speaker 6: I think it was twenty I should have pulled it up.
- 31:56Speaker 6: I think it was twenty two. Yeah, twenty two and
- 31:59Speaker 6: twenty four. He was second in SiO, fourth in SiO.
- 32:04Speaker 6: How those catchers worked with him, he has Monti Grendal
- 32:08Speaker 6: and I think it was Martine Maldonado. How they work
- 32:11Speaker 6: with him and get him to trust that we don't
- 32:15Speaker 6: need to throw three balls to get a strikeout. You
- 32:18Speaker 6: can throw two. You can throw two pitches and get
- 32:22Speaker 6: an early out, which will create the opportunity to get
- 32:26Speaker 6: ahead in account and then on the next hitter, which
- 32:29Speaker 6: then can get you early strikeouts. And I think he'll
- 32:31Speaker 6: still rack up the strikeouts, So can they get him
- 32:34Speaker 6: to do that? That's where he would take the next level?
- 32:36Speaker 6: Is he gonna take the next level like a Zach
- 32:38Speaker 6: Wheeler type of next level. I don't take that high.
- 32:42Speaker 6: But when you have the strikeouts, if you have the
- 32:45Speaker 6: ability to lower your walks, yes, there is another level
- 32:49Speaker 6: to be unlocked.
- 32:50Speaker 1: For Dylan sees way better defense that's going to be
- 32:54Speaker 1: behind him in Toronto. Now, Padres defense wasn't terrible, but
- 33:00Speaker 1: the Blue Jays defense has been great.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Defense doesn't matter. Defense doesn't matter for Dylan Seas because
- 33:05Speaker 3: he gets punchies. The problem is, like what Krawt said,
- 33:08Speaker 3: can he get punch outs in three pitches instead of
- 33:10Speaker 3: seven pitches?
- 33:12Speaker 4: Right?
- 33:13Speaker 3: And can he be efficient with it? And I agree
- 33:15Speaker 3: with what krat said, Yes, there's another level there because
- 33:17Speaker 3: this guy will still get his punchies if someone can
- 33:20Speaker 3: ever figure out how to make it more efficient instead
- 33:22Speaker 3: of three to two on every guy, I gotta throw
- 33:24Speaker 3: a slider. I got to punch this guy on a slider. Allah,
- 33:27Speaker 3: a guy named you Darvish who did the same thing,
- 33:29Speaker 3: and he is gone. He went to San Diego and
- 33:31Speaker 3: actually got a little better. I think Dylan Seas will
- 33:34Speaker 3: get with Pete Walker. Pete Walker, say listen, Dylan Man,
- 33:36Speaker 3: we really love what you do. You got unbelievable shit.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Throw it over the plate and let's see what happens.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I think what you said the defense Scott is huge.
- 33:45Speaker 6: That's gonna be part of Pete Walker's That's gonna be
- 33:47Speaker 6: part of Pete Walker's sales. Pitch Well, why am I
- 33:50Speaker 6: gonna throw on his own and throwing a slider three too?
- 33:53Speaker 6: What aj said is not a soft thing to do.
- 33:56Speaker 6: It's not a oh he's nibbling. It's you can throw
- 34:00Speaker 6: the three to two slider. Just throw it in the zone. Well,
- 34:03Speaker 6: you know sometimes it gets hit. Okay, Well why does
- 34:06Speaker 6: it get hit? You know they hit it hard because
- 34:09Speaker 6: I don't think it's as good of a pitch.
- 34:12Speaker 4: Let them hit it. Let them hit it.
- 34:13Speaker 6: We have platinum in center field, and we have platinum
- 34:16Speaker 6: most likely at shortstop. If he's not at shortstop. Because
- 34:18Speaker 6: they bring Bo back, he'll be at second base like
- 34:22Speaker 6: it's a it's a sales pitch. It is probably part
- 34:27Speaker 6: of their sales pitch. Yes, the two hundred and ten
- 34:29Speaker 6: million is what got Dylan ceased there, but the sales
- 34:32Speaker 6: pitch of probably the same thing that they told Roki
- 34:36Speaker 6: Sasaki last year. Hey, you know what, we get it.
- 34:39Speaker 6: You can throw one hundred with a forkball, but we
- 34:42Speaker 6: just want you to throw it in the zone because
- 34:43Speaker 6: we are constant, we're doubling down, tripling down with the
- 34:47Speaker 6: trade of Andre Simenez last offseason on our defense and
- 34:51Speaker 6: selling that to a pitcher can really kind of get
- 34:55Speaker 6: a little bit of relief off their back that they
- 34:58Speaker 6: don't have to make the name fastiest pitch in every
- 35:01Speaker 6: situation and go five.
- 35:04Speaker 5: And last point here.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Players will sign with the Blue Jays more likely to
- 35:09Speaker 1: sign with them now, of course they're winning. Most players
- 35:13Speaker 1: have given the choice money wise, are going to sign
- 35:16Speaker 1: with a team that they know is winning. Blue Jays
- 35:18Speaker 1: looked like they had a great vibe going. Yes, is
- 35:20Speaker 1: there a factor with taxes and being in a different country. Sure, right,
- 35:23Speaker 1: there are pros and cons to most places where you sign.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I also don't think the Blue Jays were going up
- 35:29Speaker 1: against the Dodgers, which seem to be a problem for
- 35:31Speaker 1: them when going for sho Hee Otani and Roki Sasaki.
- 35:35Speaker 1: So they win the battle here. They strike early. Good
- 35:37Speaker 1: for them. What do we think here? Two years, twenty
- 35:45Speaker 1: eight million bucks for Ryan Helsley. He will not be
- 35:48Speaker 1: a starting pitcher. He is going to join the Baltimore
- 35:52Speaker 1: Orioles bullpen. So far, AJ we've seen the Orioles acquire
- 35:56Speaker 1: Taylor Ward and.
- 35:58Speaker 5: We've seen them now pick up Ryan Helsley.
- 36:00Speaker 1: They also did trade back for Andrew Kittridge and pick
- 36:05Speaker 1: up his option so that they can start to rebuild
- 36:07Speaker 1: their bullpen. Keep in mind that Felix Bautista is going
- 36:10Speaker 1: to miss this coming season, which is a big blow
- 36:13Speaker 1: for them. I'm a big Bautista fan, but Helsley can
- 36:16Speaker 1: fill the void. If you think that this past season,
- 36:19Speaker 1: especially as time period with the Mets, was an aberration,
- 36:22Speaker 1: were you surprised about anything here?
- 36:25Speaker 3: No, there's a great deal for both. I think I
- 36:27Speaker 3: think it's a great deal for both people involved. I
- 36:29Speaker 3: think for Helsley, I mean, there was talking about him
- 36:32Speaker 3: going back to Saint Louis. That never happens except for
- 36:34Speaker 3: old as Chapman going back to the Yankees at the
- 36:36Speaker 3: time when he got traded, and I think Helsley got
- 36:39Speaker 3: a good deal. He got it again. This kind of
- 36:40Speaker 3: goes back to the argument we just had. He got
- 36:42Speaker 3: a deal he wanted from a team he's okay going
- 36:44Speaker 3: to and you know what, whammo had happened, and it
- 36:47Speaker 3: happened fast. And I think it's great. I think it's
- 36:50Speaker 3: great for both parties involved, and good for the Oil,
- 36:52Speaker 3: is good for Michael Las. He gives the fansome to
- 36:54Speaker 3: be happy about around Thanksgiving, and it gives Ryan Helsley
- 36:58Speaker 3: a chance to go to his mom and his dad
- 36:59Speaker 3: and his wife and his kids and everyone else in
- 37:01Speaker 3: his family and say, gosh, guys, I just got paid
- 37:03Speaker 3: and we can have a hell of a Christmas.
- 37:06Speaker 1: And Kratz, if he goes off, he can opt out
- 37:09Speaker 1: after you're one of this deal and hit the free
- 37:11Speaker 1: agent market again. Because this was a guy heading into
- 37:14Speaker 1: this season that you thought would probably get a little
- 37:17Speaker 1: bit more than this. Now you're looking at this past
- 37:19Speaker 1: season and some fans were like, what two years twenty
- 37:22Speaker 1: eight million for him? But I mean heading into twenty
- 37:25Speaker 1: twenty five, he was looked at as what maybe a
- 37:27Speaker 1: top five.
- 37:29Speaker 5: No more than top ten reliever in the sport.
- 37:32Speaker 6: And I mean after especially after leading the league and
- 37:35Speaker 6: saves on a Cardinals team in twenty four that wasn't
- 37:38Speaker 6: wasn't great. He was going out there. I think he
- 37:40Speaker 6: was forty nine to fifty that year, but I'm not
- 37:43Speaker 6: one hundred percent sure.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Forty nine for fifty three.
- 37:46Speaker 6: For fifty three, okay, okay. So I thought he was
- 37:50Speaker 6: coming out of the twenty four season. After twenty four,
- 37:52Speaker 6: I thought he was like a four year type of
- 37:55Speaker 6: four year type of clothser twelve to fourteen million. So
- 37:57Speaker 6: I'm glad he got the fourteen million, a little bit
- 37:59Speaker 6: more aav Then you see some closers getting of his
- 38:05Speaker 6: ilk because he's not quite an Edwin Diaz Robert Suarez,
- 38:09Speaker 6: you know, definitely not in the hater land that kind
- 38:11Speaker 6: of thing.
- 38:12Speaker 4: But you.
- 38:14Speaker 6: Have a guy who, to me, because he only got
- 38:17Speaker 6: two years, the opt out is huge. He gets to
- 38:20Speaker 6: rebuild his value and he's going to a team in
- 38:24Speaker 6: the Orioles, who everybody had this on their bingo card.
- 38:28Speaker 6: The Orioles are going to be the most active early
- 38:31Speaker 6: on here in the off season. Like, no, nobody saw that.
- 38:36Speaker 6: Have they signed the biggest contracts. No, But they're going
- 38:38Speaker 6: after the guys that they really wanted. They didn't think
- 38:41Speaker 6: Grayson was going to be there, so they went and
- 38:42Speaker 6: got a thirty plus homer Battan Taylor Ward. They added
- 38:46Speaker 6: Leode Tevers, smaller deal, not agreeing with it based on
- 38:51Speaker 6: who they have in the outfield, but they did it.
- 38:53Speaker 6: So they're moving. They're moving on the pieces that they want,
- 38:56Speaker 6: adding Kittridge, adding Hellsley, because I think they had the
- 39:00Speaker 6: most to do. Of teams that think they want to contend,
- 39:03Speaker 6: even though this past year was awful, they have the
- 39:06Speaker 6: most to do. They need starting pitching. They've essentially needed
- 39:09Speaker 6: to rebuild their bullpen because they don't have Bautista. They
- 39:14Speaker 6: don't have Unar Canoe, at least I don't think they
- 39:16Speaker 6: have canoe. They don't have they don't have Sir Anthony
- 39:20Speaker 6: Dimingez anymore. They are they really were down to the
- 39:23Speaker 6: bare bones and they can't screw it up again with
- 39:27Speaker 6: this window. So I love that they're going out hard
- 39:29Speaker 6: here at the beginning of the at the beginning of
- 39:31Speaker 6: the off season.
- 39:33Speaker 5: They do have Cano. He just had a brutal year.
- 39:34Speaker 5: I mean, he's really good.
- 39:35Speaker 4: In twenty four.
- 39:38Speaker 1: This past season fifty eight innings, five to one to two,
- 39:41Speaker 1: Era really fell off.
- 39:44Speaker 4: It was bad.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Yeah, bad, he was bad.
- 39:47Speaker 4: He wasn't good. That's okay.
- 39:49Speaker 5: They have they have bullpen work to do.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I mean right now, Kittridge, Chilly, I mean, they're they're
- 39:56Speaker 3: they're doing the right things. They're making the right moves
- 39:58Speaker 3: right going to in the outfild. They're trying. But they
- 40:01Speaker 3: still need starters. They still need starting pitching. Who's that
- 40:05Speaker 3: going to be. I'm but I'm proud of them, Scott,
- 40:08Speaker 3: and I'm proud of what Crotch just said. They're going
- 40:10Speaker 3: out early, and they're targeting their guys, and they're getting
- 40:13Speaker 3: the deals done. Go sign the guys you want, Go
- 40:16Speaker 3: trade for the guys you want, and then worry about
- 40:18Speaker 3: the rest later because there's always those bargain guys you
- 40:20Speaker 3: can find right now.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Fourth power rankings a least for me, a lot of
- 40:25Speaker 1: offseason left to go, and Ken Rosenthal did say that
- 40:28Speaker 1: executives around the game.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Felt as if there was almost going to be a
- 40:32Speaker 5: sense of.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Desperation mode, which was music to the years of Orioles
- 40:35Speaker 1: fans for the front office to try and do things
- 40:38Speaker 1: and do things quickly, because you're right, Krats, they do
- 40:41Speaker 1: have a lot of work to do. The Blue Jays
- 40:43Speaker 1: are adding on to what they've just had, which was
- 40:45Speaker 1: almost the World Series title. The Yankees had Garrett Cole
- 40:49Speaker 1: coming back this season and plenty of other talent. You know,
- 40:51Speaker 1: they're going to do things. The Red Sox team like
- 40:53Speaker 1: they're going to do things. They've already added Sonny Gray.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Those three teams look better right now on paper than
- 40:58Speaker 1: Baltimore and then there's Tampa Bay. They're not going to
- 41:00Speaker 1: be that active, although maybe things change with a new
- 41:03Speaker 1: ownership group. But do you guys have them any higher
- 41:05Speaker 1: than four right now in your power rankings in the
- 41:07Speaker 1: AL East?
- 41:08Speaker 3: Does it matter?
- 41:10Speaker 4: Does it matter?
- 41:10Speaker 3: It's December first, and you know what you had last year?
- 41:14Speaker 3: You had the Blue jaysus fifth in the AL East
- 41:16Speaker 3: at this time, and you know what, they went to
- 41:17Speaker 3: the World Series and should have maybe won it depending
- 41:19Speaker 3: on who you talk to.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Why do we even do the show?
- 41:23Speaker 1: Why don't we just do the show for Game seven
- 41:25Speaker 1: of the World Series?
- 41:26Speaker 3: No, I'm just saying, doesn't matter. Secember first, verbal verbal
- 41:30Speaker 3: one go? Who cares he signed with the Mets and
- 41:33Speaker 3: they didn't make the playoffs.
- 41:34Speaker 6: And I will say that I will say I agree
- 41:38Speaker 6: that they're fourth. But this is also showing that any
- 41:42Speaker 6: team out there that thinks they have this like super core,
- 41:46Speaker 6: that's when you start pushing in. Because all of a sudden,
- 41:49Speaker 6: like Adlei Ruschman came up in twenty two, he was like,
- 41:54Speaker 6: that was when this core started to like get to
- 41:57Speaker 6: the big leagues. That was the first like way coming
- 42:00Speaker 6: to the big leagues. That's when they should have started
- 42:02Speaker 6: pushing in. But instead they traded their closer right when
- 42:06Speaker 6: they were like, I don't know what they were. I
- 42:08Speaker 6: think they ended like eighty one and eighty one that
- 42:10Speaker 6: year or something like that, and they traded away Pablo Lopez,
- 42:14Speaker 6: who was not Pablo Lopez, Jorge Lopez, And it was like,
- 42:18Speaker 6: why would you trade when you're close and all this stuff.
- 42:20Speaker 6: As soon as your core gets there, start pushing because
- 42:24Speaker 6: now we're fast forward in twenty twenty six. The Blue jaysuh,
- 42:27Speaker 6: nobody thought we're going to be there, are now pushing
- 42:31Speaker 6: to be better than they were last year as the
- 42:33Speaker 6: American League East champs. The Red Sox have a young core.
- 42:37Speaker 6: The Yankees are always going to be there. They're always
- 42:39Speaker 6: going to be a playoff team, and all of a sudden,
- 42:42Speaker 6: now your core has questions like push do some like
- 42:46Speaker 6: put your job on the line. In my opinion, if
- 42:48Speaker 6: you're running an organization right now, you have that core
- 42:51Speaker 6: like the Orioles had and they still kind of have,
- 42:54Speaker 6: but now they're playing ketchup and you don't want to
- 42:56Speaker 6: be playing ketchup. You need to be the big dog
- 42:59Speaker 6: out in front.
- 43:01Speaker 1: We're hitting the futures market right now, because if you're
- 43:04Speaker 1: a baseball fan and you're missing games, that's really all
- 43:06Speaker 1: you can do. You can hit the futures market and
- 43:08Speaker 1: decide on what you things is gonna happen next year.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I mean, this one's always pretty close. But World Series
- 43:13Speaker 1: winning league right now. National Leagues at minus won thirty
- 43:17Speaker 1: American Leagues at plus one hundred. National League gets the
- 43:21Speaker 1: edge partially thanks or many thanks to the Dodgers who
- 43:25Speaker 1: have won back to back titles, and there are other
- 43:27Speaker 1: talented teams in there too. Would you what would you
- 43:31Speaker 1: do here, AJ if I gave you one hundred? National League?
- 43:36Speaker 1: Thrown it on?
- 43:37Speaker 3: How many times did we go over the power rankings?
- 43:40Speaker 4: Every time?
- 43:41Speaker 3: Producer Lady made us go over the power rankings. It
- 43:43Speaker 3: was all it was National League, Nation League, National League, Nationallyague,
- 43:45Speaker 3: Nation League. Oh, then yours an American League team at
- 43:47Speaker 3: like six. Not that much has changed again, it's just
- 43:50Speaker 3: number first cut.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Okay, Kratz the same.
- 43:56Speaker 6: Now we'll go to National League because most of the
- 43:58Speaker 6: year we were going National League, National League, Tigers, National
- 44:02Speaker 6: League nationally and you saw what happened with the Tigers.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Just right now. The National League is better.
- 44:07Speaker 6: They are a better group of teams, So why would
- 44:11Speaker 6: you not put that money? And if I was getting
- 44:13Speaker 6: maybe like plus one forty with the American League, then
- 44:15Speaker 6: I'd may be like a, you know what, I kind
- 44:19Speaker 6: of like those numbers, but no, I need I need
- 44:22Speaker 6: that National League minus one thirty easy.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I feel that the plus a hondo is not sexy enough.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Maybe that tilts at some point in the offseason, but
- 44:33Speaker 1: not right now. Okay, the offer out there for you
- 44:37Speaker 1: is foul foul and get yourself up to fifteen hundred
- 44:42Speaker 1: dollars paid back in bonus bets. If you don't win
- 44:44Speaker 1: your first bet, that's your new player offer. There's also
- 44:47Speaker 1: another chance at the first touchdown score second chance promotion,
- 44:51Speaker 1: so you get your stake back in cash if your
- 44:52Speaker 1: first touchdown score scores second instead of first in a
- 44:58Speaker 1: pro football game with a player that you picked to
- 45:02Speaker 1: score the first touchdown of the game, So you can
- 45:04Speaker 1: check that out. Or if you're new to the party,
- 45:07Speaker 1: the bonus code is foul for that new player offer
- 45:10Speaker 1: bet MGM make it legendary gambling problem or concern called
- 45:14Speaker 1: one eight hundred gambling.
- 45:28Speaker 5: Damn. That show flew.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Okay, So last licks here that I want to get
- 45:32Speaker 1: to is the Anthony Rendon story that we actually did cover.
- 45:36Speaker 1: So we had our last show on Wednesday. That story
- 45:38Speaker 1: broke maybe thirty minutes after the show, so we ended
- 45:42Speaker 1: up doing what we call a little breakout video, so
- 45:45Speaker 1: we did a little quickie video reaction on YouTube. AJ
- 45:50Speaker 1: wasn't there for that, so we wanted to get his
- 45:52Speaker 1: thoughts on this, and I did a lot of back
- 45:54Speaker 1: and forth in the comments AJ, because when we did
- 45:58Speaker 1: this segment, AJ, Kevin l I was on and he
- 46:00Speaker 1: started with Anthony Rendon as misunderstood and once he said
- 46:04Speaker 1: that everyone lost their minds.
- 46:06Speaker 3: I can only you know what's funny is I actually
- 46:08Speaker 3: did see that clip and I felt bad for Polar
- 46:11Speaker 3: because he did play with him for a little while.
- 46:13Speaker 3: He's here's where he's not misunderstood though he doesn't play,
- 46:16Speaker 3: so he's not misunderstood he doesn't play. And here's my
- 46:18Speaker 3: other thing about this. They want to buy me. If
- 46:20Speaker 3: I'm Anthony Rendon and I listen, I am Anthony Rendon
- 46:23Speaker 3: and I don't know each other. We played against the
- 46:25Speaker 3: other very little bit when he first came up with
- 46:27Speaker 3: the Nationals, and he was a really good right handed hitter,
- 46:29Speaker 3: and this and that. But I almost say this, if
- 46:31Speaker 3: I'm Anthony Rendon and they come to me and I
- 46:33Speaker 3: don't know what they're coming to them with, but they're like, hey,
- 46:35Speaker 3: we want to defer money. And then I listened to
- 46:37Speaker 3: Scott Bron talk. I say, no, I'm not defer money.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Release me and pay me what Yomi. Don't try to
- 46:43Speaker 3: buy me out and push money back. We signed a contract.
- 46:46Speaker 3: I want my money now. So that's what Scott Bron said,
- 46:49Speaker 3: because then five years from now it's worthless. So pay
- 46:52Speaker 3: me with Yomi and we move on. And I'm not
- 46:56Speaker 3: on any side in this fight other than the fact
- 46:58Speaker 3: that they signed a guaranteed contract and it's time to go.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Is that just me or no, No, that was just you. No,
- 47:08Speaker 5: it's just me. I cannot hear anything right now, Okay,
- 47:10Speaker 5: go Kreutz.
- 47:12Speaker 6: I said all my pieces about it, but I agree
- 47:16Speaker 6: like this. Hopefully it can be amendable in the sense
- 47:20Speaker 6: that he's still going to get his thirty six million dollars,
- 47:23Speaker 6: I think. But I think it's something that you know,
- 47:26Speaker 6: he can be willing to push it down the road,
- 47:31Speaker 6: help him out with some of the taxes part of it.
- 47:33Speaker 4: Nobody.
- 47:35Speaker 6: I think Rendon and the Angels both want this to
- 47:37Speaker 6: go away, but it's not going to until this gets
- 47:41Speaker 6: figured out, ironed out, and then you won't hear from Anthony,
- 47:45Speaker 6: Rendon and the Angels anymore about this.
- 47:50Speaker 3: True, they both wanted to go away. But speaking of
- 47:53Speaker 3: going away, I have a quick comment for you, and
- 47:56Speaker 3: I was not on. I was on vacation and you guys,
- 47:59Speaker 3: said Kevin Kirmiron, and he brought up my comments, and
- 48:03Speaker 3: I stand by what I said. Kratz, And I want
- 48:05Speaker 3: to know because if I would have been on the show,
- 48:07Speaker 3: and I want him to come back on, who are
- 48:09Speaker 3: the teams that called you? How many teams? Name the teams? Kevin?
- 48:12Speaker 3: Bring it on, because then I want to know what
- 48:14Speaker 3: they're offering you. Hey, they're offering you to come to
- 48:16Speaker 3: spring training for a day or two and they're not
- 48:18Speaker 3: going to hire you. And yes, there are mental skills
- 48:21Speaker 3: coaches that talk to different things and talk to different teams,
- 48:24Speaker 3: and I get that, but not outfield coaches that I've
- 48:26Speaker 3: ever found. And I'm all for it if he can
- 48:28Speaker 3: figure it out, because I want that job. I want
- 48:30Speaker 3: to be a catchup coach for all thirty teams. So Kevin,
- 48:33Speaker 3: name the team so we can figure it out and
- 48:35Speaker 3: let me know when you get that job, because I'm
- 48:37Speaker 3: for it. But also I stand by what I said
- 48:39Speaker 3: until I see it. I won't believe it. When I
- 48:41Speaker 3: see it, I believe it because you know what, I
- 48:43Speaker 3: once played for the Saint Louis Cardinals and they are
- 48:45Speaker 3: in the show me state, So show me, Kevin.
- 48:48Speaker 6: Okay, I appreciate that. And we loved it that he
- 48:51Speaker 6: called you out. And he's keeping receipts. So next time,
- 48:54Speaker 6: next time jan k comes on, we want to we
- 48:57Speaker 6: want to know. We'll find out what teams he went to.
- 48:59Speaker 6: And because it's not gonna be a secret, he's gonna
- 49:01Speaker 6: be trolling around, but we'll go to Krats hats. How
- 49:04Speaker 6: can I not when my guy, Zach Britton's coming on
- 49:07Speaker 6: wear an O's hat, very classic O's. I feel like
- 49:10Speaker 6: I can wear a hat all year. He is not
- 49:14Speaker 6: a Yankee. I love that you asked that question. He
- 49:16Speaker 6: played for the Yankees, but he was not remembered as
- 49:19Speaker 6: a Yankee. He will be the dominant closer of the
- 49:21Speaker 6: team that came up a little short. Came up a
- 49:25Speaker 6: little short, but it wasn't his fault. Tomorrow's guest list,
- 49:32Speaker 6: we have Max Munci, We've got FP Santangelo from Splashit Territory,
- 49:38Speaker 6: and your favorite senior insider, Ken Rosenthal. Oh and don't forget, Yes,
- 49:45Speaker 6: don't forget. We're still running the Black Friday special on
- 49:50Speaker 6: the Foul Territory Shop for all your merch. You can
- 49:54Speaker 6: even get foul Territory merch. You can get fair territory
- 49:57Speaker 6: merch also, and a j I know it's go and
- 50:00Speaker 6: cold in Miami and Orlando, so I think you probably
- 50:04Speaker 6: need a beanie. You're a beanie. You have a beanie
- 50:06Speaker 6: type of head, So get yourself. Never whoever beanies never.
- 50:11Speaker 6: And by the way, bear down, bitch, bear down. Best
- 50:16Speaker 6: record in the NFC. As you said, krats. The Bears
- 50:20Speaker 6: are so good, You're so good. Bears are so good.
- 50:23Speaker 4: That's what I text the name Ride the Highs, Ride
- 50:27Speaker 4: the Highs,
