- 0:27Speaker 2: That's something like a pimp. And the Master of the
- 0:30Speaker 2: West African Monkey spank Technique.
- 0:34Speaker 1: What is that?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Well, you know it's it's it's it's an art form
- 0:37Speaker 2: originating in West Africa. Man. I traveled back to West
- 0:41Speaker 2: Africa to you know, get more in touch with my
- 0:43Speaker 2: rules and found out that, you know, I'm very very
- 0:46Speaker 2: deep in Africa. You know, I actually found out my
- 0:49Speaker 2: African name.
- 0:50Speaker 1: What is it?
- 0:51Speaker 2: I need you say it with me?
- 0:53Speaker 1: What is it? I listen to you say, get you? Yeah,

- 1:15Speaker 1: so what will you be? Yes, I'm about you get
- 1:26Speaker 1: all right, so what are you gonna be feeding me
- 1:29Speaker 1: as your broke dish today?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Okay, today, my broke dish is a staple in the
- 1:35Speaker 2: impoverished community. Man, I mean, this is this is it's
- 1:39Speaker 2: it's damn their delicacy for some you know what I mean.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But today we're having baloney sandwiches, a good old fried
- 1:47Speaker 2: baloney sandwich. However, thanks to the magic of Hollywood, we're
- 1:51Speaker 2: gonna make goa dress it up a little bit with
- 1:53Speaker 2: a little bit of nice, fine, sharp cheddar cheese and
- 1:57Speaker 2: some lettuce.
- 2:16Speaker 1: My flower, and I like how you were very particular
- 2:23Speaker 1: about having real cheese and lettuce. That's that's like real legit.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I was, because you know you add the letters to it,
- 2:30Speaker 2: you kind of you at least getting like three of you.
- 2:32Speaker 2: You got all the four food groups. Yeah, you got
- 2:34Speaker 2: all the four food groups right here, you know what
- 2:36Speaker 2: I mean. So you know, you got your dair, you
- 2:38Speaker 2: got your bread, you got your meat, and you got
- 2:40Speaker 2: your vegetables. So you know, again this very healthy struggle meal.
- 2:45Speaker 2: A lot of NL NFL players were raised off this,
- 2:49Speaker 2: you know what.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I never even when you think of the NFL players,
- 2:52Speaker 1: you never even think that about that.
- 2:54Speaker 2: They didn't always have protein shakes and ship like that.
- 2:57Speaker 2: The motherfuckers they they ain't gone trife.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Well, while you cook this dish, why don't you take
- 3:03Speaker 1: me back to what was going on when you was
- 3:06Speaker 1: eating the Blogney sandwiches.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Oh man, it was a trio time in life. Man,
- 3:11Speaker 2: your boy was showed, you know, you know, uh, fresh
- 3:14Speaker 2: out of Waii. You know, I had went to the
- 3:17Speaker 2: California Athorities for a little while, you know what I'm saying.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And I had to California Youth Authorities.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, that's a junior penitentiary. That's the penitentiary for
- 3:27Speaker 2: miners here in California. You know what I'm saying. Some
- 3:30Speaker 2: people call it gladiator school, man. Some people just call
- 3:33Speaker 2: it WII. Shout out to all my Wye babies, pastor Robless,
- 3:37Speaker 2: what's up, baby? You know what I'm talking about. We
- 3:38Speaker 2: in here. But you know, I was fresh out of Waii.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I was I went in a boy. I came out
- 3:42Speaker 2: of man as far as age goes. And you know,
- 3:45Speaker 2: it wasn't a whole lot of handouts. It wasn't no help.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Of course, I had my mom. She always been a
- 3:49Speaker 2: rock in my life. She's been, always been in my corner.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But you know, as a man, you gotta do things
- 3:54Speaker 2: for yourself. Man. So you know I got out of jail.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Man, and what'd you go in for? And I just
- 4:00Speaker 1: have to address this for all you guys that have
- 4:02Speaker 1: not had the opportunity to meet Slink in person. He
- 4:05Speaker 1: is so tall, like, he is definitely the tallest guess
- 4:08Speaker 1: he When he walked in the door, I was like,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I don't know if you're gonna clear that door, and
- 4:13Speaker 1: he like touched it. That's how tall he is. So
- 4:18Speaker 1: as a teenager, were you this tall?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah? I was pretty tall, man. I was into the
- 4:22Speaker 2: wrong things I was when I was young. And I'm
- 4:24Speaker 2: gonna use this little spatula thing because you know, I
- 4:26Speaker 2: don't want everybody but like I don't know his hands, man,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I know what they being. You know what they being
- 4:29Speaker 2: because I've been here for the bad two whiles. But
- 4:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna use this here for the sake of all
- 4:33Speaker 2: them German folks out there to be acting funny and
- 4:35Speaker 2: shit a whole long. Nigga is a struggle meal, Nigga.
- 4:38Speaker 2: If you struggle it, you ain't worried about my hands.
- 4:40Speaker 2: We're gonna keep the shit going you know what I'm
- 4:42Speaker 2: talking about. But yeah, when I was young, I went
- 4:45Speaker 2: to Ya for a robbery. I did. I was a
- 4:49Speaker 2: young misguided kid man. I just you know, I used
- 4:52Speaker 2: to run with some guys who mischievous. I like to
- 4:55Speaker 2: say we were juvenile delinkers. We were mischievous, juvenile de lincers.
- 4:58Speaker 2: And I was doing some stuff that you know, put
- 5:01Speaker 2: my life on the line a lot of times when
- 5:03Speaker 2: I got cracked doing a robbery, and it took me
- 5:07Speaker 2: a while to realize that I'm really no good as
- 5:09Speaker 2: a thug. I'm very very very unlucky and successful thug.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And you know, I just like doing thug shit. You know.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I just wanted to be part of a part of
- 5:18Speaker 2: some part of a group of people that's doing some shit.
- 5:21Speaker 2: But you know, I should have been while I was
- 5:25Speaker 2: out there robbing people. I fucked up while I was
- 5:27Speaker 2: out there robbing people. I should have been somebody small
- 5:29Speaker 2: forward on the basketball team. But you know I wasn't
- 5:31Speaker 2: really into basketball like that.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, because I was. But what city where are you from?
- 5:36Speaker 2: I grew up in Inglewood Between. I grew up between Inglewood,
- 5:40Speaker 2: No No. I was born in Arkansas. I was born
- 5:43Speaker 2: in a little small town in Arkansas where my mother
- 5:45Speaker 2: remarried and moved us out here when I was ten
- 5:47Speaker 2: years old. So I've been here since I was ten.
- 5:50Speaker 2: And I grew up in Inglewood, between Inglewood and South LA.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I went to school in Inglewood and spent a lot
- 5:55Speaker 2: of my time in South LA. And you know, I'm
- 5:58Speaker 2: a La baby, you know. And when I should have
- 6:00Speaker 2: been like playing small forward for the Inglewood Sentinels Inglewood Hot,
- 6:05Speaker 2: I played left pistol for the Inglewood Carjackers, I was like,
- 6:10Speaker 2: you're so big.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I would assume that, like, out of all industries, definitely
- 6:15Speaker 1: robbing or anything criminalist, criminalist like you would definitely be
- 6:19Speaker 1: the one that would get caught.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Man, they catch me all time, they catch me on time.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Then they put me in the lineup with four Mexicans.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You know they gonna give me. You know they're gonna
- 6:28Speaker 2: give me.
- 6:29Speaker 1: So then all right, so take me to the so
- 6:31Speaker 1: so you're you just get out of juvie.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Ven that's parole, baby, that's state, ain't that ain't the halls,
- 6:41Speaker 2: that's past the juvenile halls. That's why a baby.
- 6:45Speaker 1: So that's like a jail for minors, that's.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Print prison for minors. You got parole, you gotta go
- 6:50Speaker 2: in front the parole board.
- 6:52Speaker 1: What and at the time, did you know you were
- 6:55Speaker 1: gonna get into comedy or was is this like the
- 6:57Speaker 1: beginning of you when you get out of jail? What
- 7:00Speaker 1: happens when.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I got out of jail. You know, I had a
- 7:04Speaker 2: few jobs, you know, like most guys will get a
- 7:06Speaker 2: few jobs here and there. But you know, I never
- 7:09Speaker 2: was good on my jobs because you know, I've always
- 7:11Speaker 2: been kind of like this free spirit. You know, I've
- 7:13Speaker 2: always been a clown. I've always been a class clown.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I've always been a jokester. You know, a lot of
- 7:19Speaker 2: times I don't take everything too serious. So you know,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I never could keep a job too long, you know.
- 7:23Speaker 2: So I was hustling and doing different things to try
- 7:25Speaker 2: to you know, to supplement my income. However, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 2: like what, oh, you know, selling some stuff, getting people's
- 7:35Speaker 2: stuff that they wanted.
- 7:39Speaker 1: So then take me to the next chapter. What's that
- 7:42Speaker 1: next milestone after you're working all these jobs in hustling.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Like the next chapter? Man is I jumped on the mic.
- 7:49Speaker 2: I jumped on the mic because my first aspiration, for
- 7:52Speaker 2: my first aspiration for entertainment rather was hip hop and rap.
- 7:56Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I was signing Too Short
- 7:58Speaker 2: as a rapper. You know, back in ninety seven, he
- 8:02Speaker 2: signed me and I traveled with him for a little while.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So you were wrapping the whole time, you were working
- 8:07Speaker 1: these odd jobs.
- 8:08Speaker 2: A little bit. I was working my way up to that,
- 8:11Speaker 2: I was writing. I wasn't really taking it seriously, you
- 8:14Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. I started writing raps back in
- 8:15Speaker 2: nineteen eighty six, and around nineteen ninety four, that's when
- 8:18Speaker 2: I like started writing them. I really started writing, and
- 8:21Speaker 2: it started getting into the studio, you know what I mean.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Around ninety seven, I was already you know what I mean.
- 8:27Speaker 1: How did you cross paths for Too Short?
- 8:28Speaker 2: Oh man? One of my best friends, who was like
- 8:30Speaker 2: a cousin to me, is actually Too Short's first cousin,
- 8:35Speaker 2: So you know, it was like only a matter of
- 8:37Speaker 2: time before that happened. And you know, my boy young E,
- 8:41Speaker 2: you know him, was short, always been cousins. But he
- 8:44Speaker 2: took me to Short at a time when he felt like, okay, gee,
- 8:46Speaker 2: you ready now you know what I'm saying. You know,
- 8:49Speaker 2: he saw I was serious about what I was doing
- 8:50Speaker 2: because a lot of times I can get into something
- 8:53Speaker 2: me real into it, and I lose interest quick. But
- 8:57Speaker 2: you know, I tend to hell. I tend to hold
- 8:59Speaker 2: on to my hip hop aspirations, and I got better
- 9:03Speaker 2: and better. And then one day he took me the
- 9:05Speaker 2: short and shit Short was digging what I was doing,
- 9:09Speaker 2: and he handed me over to my other partner, Kiki,
- 9:11Speaker 2: who actually executive produced my my demo project. And then
- 9:16Speaker 2: I got signed over the short.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Wow. And then you get a nice check at the time.
- 9:21Speaker 2: No, I mean at the time, at the time, it
- 9:24Speaker 2: was it was nice at the time. You know, however,
- 9:28Speaker 2: in hindsight, it wasn't too much. But hey, you know,
- 9:30Speaker 2: coming for I was coming from the point I was
- 9:32Speaker 2: coming from, it was like fucking right, yeah.
- 9:35Speaker 1: And you're doing what you love. So what did you
- 9:37Speaker 1: do with the money? And what happened with that check?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Like it wasn't too much? Like literally, I think I
- 9:44Speaker 2: put a down payment on the car for my baby.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Mama bought me a couple of trinkets and some bullshit,
- 9:49Speaker 2: and you know what I'm saying, it was broken Again.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Were you able to put out the record?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Nah? No, it didn't come out. It didn't come out
- 9:57Speaker 2: through jive, But I actually just bootleg to myself and
- 10:00Speaker 2: made the authorized butleg version of your own record. Yeah,
- 10:04Speaker 2: authorized the bootleg of it. Fuck it, I'm gonna get
- 10:06Speaker 2: it out there. A few people got it. It's in
- 10:09Speaker 2: a few It's in a few trunks around the country.
- 10:12Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I hit, you know, I
- 10:13Speaker 2: hit to hit the streets with my homeboy problem, my
- 10:16Speaker 2: young my young boy problem. I met him in Atlanta
- 10:19Speaker 2: when I was down there was short probe, got me
- 10:21Speaker 2: out on the street. We started hitting state to state, Philly, uh, Atlanta,
- 10:26Speaker 2: New York. You know what I'm saying, Just going all
- 10:28Speaker 2: these different places, jumping on corners, selling this tape, you
- 10:32Speaker 2: know what I mean.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So, then, at what point do you check out of
- 10:36Speaker 1: the music business.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Well, I never really checked out. I never really checked out.
- 10:40Speaker 2: It kind of just didn't didn't materialize how I wanted it.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Two in a time frame that we all imagine for ourselves.
- 10:48Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 10:50Speaker 2: You know, so the rap dreams, it didn't necessarily die,
- 10:54Speaker 2: but the opportunity and the the the life was kind
- 10:59Speaker 2: of slowing down from me because real life was taking place.
- 11:02Speaker 2: You know, I had a son. Now, you know what
- 11:05Speaker 2: I mean, and my son can't eat these raps, you
- 11:10Speaker 2: know what I mean. So that actually kind of put
- 11:13Speaker 2: me in a rut for a while, you know what
- 11:15Speaker 2: I mean, Because you know, I worked a few jobs,
- 11:17Speaker 2: and my last job I had, I got fired and
- 11:21Speaker 2: I remember going home, I was crying like a motherfucker.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I'm on the bus, real tears, crying like damn, I
- 11:26Speaker 2: can't get right, what the fuck is wrong with me?
- 11:28Speaker 2: And I'm just I came to the conclusion that I
- 11:30Speaker 2: can't work a conventional nine to five. I can't work
- 11:32Speaker 2: for nobody, not like that, you know what I mean.
- 11:35Speaker 2: And I had to figure out something else. So I
- 11:37Speaker 2: started selling weed and it was working a little bit.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You know, it was cool. It was paying some bills,
- 11:42Speaker 2: you know, making sure I had some cheese from my
- 11:44Speaker 2: blooney because I was still eating blooney, was making sure
- 11:47Speaker 2: I had some cheese on it, you know what I mean.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Now, was your baby mom at the time starting to
- 11:51Speaker 1: kind of stress you out about like finances or where
- 11:54Speaker 1: is she just I.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Don't want to blame that on her. I'm not gonna
- 11:58Speaker 2: say she stressed me out of our finances. We was
- 12:01Speaker 2: in that thing together, and she's hard on her, so
- 12:03Speaker 2: you know, of course she's going to verbalize her angst,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you know what I mean. So again, I don't want
- 12:09Speaker 2: to make her out to be a bad person or nothing.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I mean, shit, she's you know, she pulling the load
- 12:13Speaker 2: shit tough, you know what I'm saying. So that definitely
- 12:16Speaker 2: added to, you know, a little bit of stress on
- 12:19Speaker 2: my behalf. However, out never blame her because you know
- 12:21Speaker 2: what I'm saying, When you the one doing everything or
- 12:24Speaker 2: taking care of shit, you god damn right, you know
- 12:27Speaker 2: you're gonna feel a certain type of way.
- 12:28Speaker 1: So you know, so she was show your baby mom
- 12:31Speaker 1: at the time was also like working, and she.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Was working, she was taking care of it. She was
- 12:35Speaker 2: doing it right. I got the classic little story. You know,
- 12:37Speaker 2: niggas had these rap dreams and shit, and while your
- 12:40Speaker 2: baby mama growing up and taking care of business and
- 12:43Speaker 2: doing shit. We be little boys till we about thirty five,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you know what I mean. So, yeah, it was. It
- 12:49Speaker 2: was a typical thing for me. You know, she's always
- 12:51Speaker 2: been straight lace, take care of businessman. Shout out to her.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I love it to this day, man, thank you so much.
- 12:56Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I love that person. So then take me to f
- 13:00Speaker 1: after you lose the job. I want to get closer
- 13:03Speaker 1: to when you start reaching for the mic and what
- 13:05Speaker 1: epiphany was going on to get you there.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Okay, to be honest with you, let me rewind. I
- 13:11Speaker 2: was on the mic. And actually this last job I
- 13:14Speaker 2: had was after the signing with too Short, traveling the
- 13:17Speaker 2: country of touring, making records and stuff like that and
- 13:21Speaker 2: stuff and not not quite paying out and wrap, and
- 13:25Speaker 2: I was working a job and kind of seeing rap,
- 13:28Speaker 2: the rap dream of the window getting smaller and working
- 13:31Speaker 2: a job. And when I lost the job, that with
- 13:33Speaker 2: the rap dream and the window getting smaller, to me,
- 13:36Speaker 2: that kind of just you know, that kind of put
- 13:39Speaker 2: me in a rut. And I was in the rut
- 13:41Speaker 2: for a little while, you know, doing odd things, odds
- 13:44Speaker 2: and thens different things, keep me some money going on.
- 13:46Speaker 2: I was a CD man. I used to bake cakes.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I said, I love baking. So I would bake cakes
- 13:52Speaker 2: and cut the motherfuckers up to the slices and go
- 13:54Speaker 2: up to the barbershop by my house and say, okay,
- 13:56Speaker 2: some brothers was fucking with me. Man, you know what
- 13:58Speaker 2: I'm saying yet again, because you know, after you know,
- 14:19Speaker 2: in between you know, losing it after losing job and
- 14:21Speaker 2: all that, and you know, just odd jobs here and there. Uh,
- 14:25Speaker 2: you know again, I was selling weed to make me,
- 14:28Speaker 2: you know, make supplement my income, you know, kind of
- 14:30Speaker 2: keep keep the lights on or whatever. I got cracked
- 14:33Speaker 2: with the weed. I was already on probation for some shit,
- 14:36Speaker 2: and I was selling the weed, and I got cracked again.
- 14:39Speaker 2: So and I got cracked right when I first started.
- 14:44Speaker 2: By this time, we're gonna be fast forward. And by
- 14:46Speaker 2: this time, uh, this is twenty ten, I'm selling weed,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you know, doing all right, Opportunities are come into life
- 14:55Speaker 2: for me, you know what I'm saying. I just got
- 14:57Speaker 2: GTA five. I just got a you know, cash with
- 15:01Speaker 2: GTA five, did did some work over there, you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: still selling weed on the side, you know, kind of
- 15:06Speaker 2: keep my lights on. And shit. I got cracked by
- 15:09Speaker 2: the La Shar's Department. They pulled me over, you know,
- 15:12Speaker 2: found some weed in my car. And that was before
- 15:14Speaker 2: it was legal. They found some weed in my car,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and I was already on probation for some other dumb shit.
- 15:21Speaker 2: So they used that as you know, they used that
- 15:24Speaker 2: as they reason searched my house, and you know, they
- 15:26Speaker 2: found some stuff at my house that I wasn't supposed
- 15:29Speaker 2: to have, and you know, I had to go sit
- 15:30Speaker 2: down in the county jail for about five months. You
- 15:33Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. I was facing. I was facing
- 15:35Speaker 2: by eight thirteen years or something. But thanks to the
- 15:38Speaker 2: people over there, rock Star. You know, they wrote letters
- 15:40Speaker 2: on my behalf, my boy Brian Ash, my boy Carl Jones,
- 15:44Speaker 2: my boy Aaron McGruder, Jason van Veen, van Elder. I
- 15:48Speaker 2: had a lot of great people around me that wrote letters,
- 15:52Speaker 2: you know, on my behalf, and I think that kind
- 15:54Speaker 2: of helped me in regards to how it was sentenced.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Because when I got caught for that beef, I told
- 15:59Speaker 2: y'all was on probation, but I had a joint suspension.
- 16:02Speaker 2: You don't know what the joint suspension is. Basically meaning Okay,
- 16:05Speaker 2: we're gonna let you out, but if you get in
- 16:06Speaker 2: trouble again, you're gonna go to jail for this time,
- 16:09Speaker 2: we're gonna we're gonna go to jail.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Type thing.
- 16:12Speaker 2: That It's not three strikes. It's basically said, okay, we're
- 16:15Speaker 2: gonna give you four years in jail, but we're gonna
- 16:18Speaker 2: suspend that. We're gonna let you out, but if you
- 16:20Speaker 2: get caught for something else, you're gonna get that four
- 16:22Speaker 2: years off top. And that's not counting with whatever time
- 16:26Speaker 2: you're gonna get for what you get caught for. You
- 16:28Speaker 2: understand me. Pressure, Yeah, the pressure was on. So I
- 16:31Speaker 2: beat a joint suspension and you know, I got another
- 16:36Speaker 2: chance and from there when I got out of jail
- 16:38Speaker 2: that time. Wait, mane look at that blogna. That shit beautiful,
- 16:41Speaker 2: That shit beautiful. You see that nice little seer. Oh yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 2: that's what I'm talking about. So right now I'm trying
- 16:47Speaker 2: to pay it to that blondee. So what I'm gonna
- 16:49Speaker 2: do right now is I'm gonna make sure i'ma hit
- 16:51Speaker 2: it with that e's. You gotta put that e's because
- 16:54Speaker 2: you got two slices. I'm a big man. You gotta
- 16:56Speaker 2: have at least two slices, you know what I'm saying.
- 16:58Speaker 2: But you put you somey's. You take your little piece
- 17:01Speaker 2: of yeze and put it right in between the two slices.
- 17:04Speaker 2: You feel me, Oh you let it a little bit.
- 17:08Speaker 1: Oh, I did not expect you. Okay, okay, so you
- 17:11Speaker 1: put the cheese in between the two vilgi.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You know I dude like that a little bit. But yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 2: when I got out of jail. When I got out
- 17:22Speaker 2: of jail, I was back on a nothing joint suspension
- 17:25Speaker 2: on probation, and I had to talk with God and
- 17:29Speaker 2: Aaron Magruder. And you know, when I got out of
- 17:31Speaker 2: jail that time, Aaron gave me the same kind of
- 17:34Speaker 2: speech that you know Puffy has said to have given
- 17:37Speaker 2: Big you know what I'm saying in the movie. At
- 17:39Speaker 2: least you know, hey, what you want? You want this
- 17:41Speaker 2: or you want that, you can't do both. Yeah, And
- 17:43Speaker 2: at that point I said, Okay, I can't do no
- 17:45Speaker 2: more crime. I'm not gonna do nothing. Jepardis my life
- 17:48Speaker 2: because I have these opportunities ahead of me. So you know,
- 17:51Speaker 2: I struggled for a few years before those opportunities came
- 17:55Speaker 2: into fruition. But I'm thankful that I trusted God and
- 17:58Speaker 2: I trusted the people that I will working with to
- 18:02Speaker 2: see those things go come to fruition again. Twenty thirteen,
- 18:04Speaker 2: GTA five came out, twenty fourteen Black Jesus came out,
- 18:08Speaker 2: and it kind of, you know, kind of let people
- 18:12Speaker 2: know who I am. So that was dope. So we're
- 18:15Speaker 2: gonna take this little bread. We ain't for the burning shit.
- 18:17Speaker 2: We're gonna tell you here, go ahead, get that little
- 18:18Speaker 2: Britain ned said, little cheese, that real cheese, baby, you
- 18:23Speaker 2: got it.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It looks official.
- 18:24Speaker 2: It is. It is that motherfucker's oh fish ye out, okay,
- 18:28Speaker 2: like cheese sticking. And now you do that like that
- 18:34Speaker 2: yet a little bit? Mom? Put that motherfucker right there. Yeah?
- 18:37Speaker 1: Is this when you put the lettuce on?
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you put you a little lettuce on there, because
- 18:41Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. You want to eat healthy.
- 18:43Speaker 2: You know what I mean A little bit. You know
- 18:44Speaker 2: a lot of people, a lot of people got problems
- 18:47Speaker 2: with you know, uh, these sandwich meats and processed meats
- 18:52Speaker 2: and things of that nature because they don't you don't
- 18:54Speaker 2: know what's in it, nigga. I say this, unless you
- 18:57Speaker 2: killed that shelf, they killed your shit yourself, you don't
- 18:59Speaker 2: never know what's in it. So fuck it. Eat. You
- 19:01Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. You know what's in that ship? Okay?
- 19:04Speaker 1: So this is how you eat.
- 19:06Speaker 2: There's no you eat healthy.
- 19:10Speaker 1: The way you do it.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Get you some chips on that motherfucker girl.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I thought the lettuce was gonna add the extra a.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Little bit but you know that the lettuce is to
- 19:17Speaker 2: add the health. You know, you got you some some
- 19:19Speaker 2: little vegetable on there, but you know lettuce is mostly water.
- 19:22Speaker 2: They say, right, that's all good. Then you take that
- 19:25Speaker 2: motherfucker you hit it whatever you see that.
- 19:29Speaker 1: I'm excited.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Look this, why like the little melty cheese. I don't
- 19:33Speaker 2: know if y'all can see that right there, little cheese.
- 19:35Speaker 2: You take that little chip and go, yeah, man, get that.
- 19:38Speaker 2: You don't let nothing go. Woman, woman, woman, woman. I
- 19:45Speaker 2: don't even know you.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Want them to.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Okay, you know what, now we ain't even hit it
- 19:55Speaker 2: off in no mustard. So I'm gonna go ahead and
- 19:58Speaker 2: do that them.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I want to add more chips, go ahead and grow well,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I want I'm trying to do yours the way.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Jared, don't eat that shit?
- 20:08Speaker 1: What the shout outs to Jered by the way, and
- 20:14Speaker 1: we ain't.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Talking about we ain't talking about the subway. Nigga need it.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I came up on bloney sandwiches man. Again. Being born
- 20:21Speaker 2: in the South, you know, I ate a lot of
- 20:25Speaker 2: lunch meats and things of that nature. Man. And hell yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 2: you know my mom used to service and blooney sandwiches
- 20:32Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, didn't handle cheese, got damn
- 20:34Speaker 2: just blooney and bread, but it worked, you know what
- 20:36Speaker 2: I'm saying. So it's very nostalgic for me. And this
- 20:39Speaker 2: is always good because it's about fifteen twenty slices or
- 20:43Speaker 2: more in this motherfuckers, you could probably make about six
- 20:46Speaker 2: seven decent sandwiches, you know what I'm saying. So you know,
- 20:49Speaker 2: you got to think about what you're doing. When you
- 20:51Speaker 2: really struggling, you start looking at shit, like how many
- 20:55Speaker 2: ounces shit is? You know what I'm saying. Like recently,
- 20:57Speaker 2: I just bought some ketchup and I saw one was
- 21:00Speaker 2: like thirty two ounces, and then the other one was
- 21:03Speaker 2: like it was bigger, but it was it was cheaper
- 21:05Speaker 2: to buy a bigger one. It was the bigger one
- 21:08Speaker 2: was more expensive, but it was like, damn near buying
- 21:11Speaker 2: two of those smaller ones for.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You know, And I wanted to address that this whole
- 21:16Speaker 1: dish costs six dollars, hold loaf of bread, holding of lettuce,
- 21:21Speaker 1: whole thing, a baloney, and real cheese. It was like
- 21:24Speaker 1: seven dollars and you're getting multiple meals. So this totally works.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's because we're both starving.
- 21:30Speaker 1: But is this sandwich not? It's really good? Hunh and
- 21:33Speaker 1: motherfucker smacking, Yeah, it is smacking. I'm trying not to see.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I can't, you know, I can't interview you and eat
- 21:38Speaker 1: the whole thing. But this thing is really really good.
- 21:40Speaker 2: See, and I like, you know, it's seven dollars, eight dollars,
- 21:43Speaker 2: just say ten, Just say ten. If you got a
- 21:46Speaker 2: wet twenty you still got you can buy this, get
- 21:50Speaker 2: you a little spend about nine, just say nine, spend
- 21:54Speaker 2: about nine. You got eleven dollars back. You can go
- 21:56Speaker 2: buy spend a bucket, go buy your blunt, and you
- 21:58Speaker 2: can buy you a nice fat I'm sacked from somebody.
- 22:01Speaker 1: You're hilarious, Okay, So take us back to so twenty thirteen,
- 22:09Speaker 1: two fourteen. You're getting all these opportunities, your pockets are
- 22:12Speaker 1: looking better, and like where's your head at? Like? Are
- 22:17Speaker 1: you like I made it? That's it? I'm stunting on
- 22:20Speaker 1: everybody or what?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Nah? I didn't really have that the real vindictive spirit
- 22:28Speaker 2: to stunt on everybody. But I was definitely enjoying the
- 22:31Speaker 2: things that were happening for me. I was definitely, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 2: liking to be able to go in to stories. I've
- 22:38Speaker 2: always went in to and be able to buy whatever
- 22:41Speaker 2: I want, you know what I mean. So that was
- 22:43Speaker 2: always cool. But you know, again, these things happened for
- 22:49Speaker 2: me at this at a certain point in my life.
- 22:51Speaker 2: I think I it came with a certain level of
- 22:53Speaker 2: maturity as well, and enough foresight to know that you know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: is like this to day, it can be different tomorrow.
- 23:02Speaker 2: So I kind of always how to keep my attitude
- 23:04Speaker 2: and the way I deal with people even killed in
- 23:07Speaker 2: that regard.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Were you good with your money as far as like managing, No,
- 23:13Speaker 1: so were you.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I have a friend I'm broke as buck right now.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say, I have a one friend
- 23:18Speaker 1: that like he'll make a million dollars and he'll be
- 23:21Speaker 1: rich driving rolls Royces in the next minute. Stupid broke
- 23:25Speaker 1: and like literally eating carrots out of a bag.
- 23:27Speaker 2: That's how I go. He had a good time though, Yeah, yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And it's literally been that way for like twenty years.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I took my baby mama to the mal D's for
- 23:34Speaker 2: a birthday in September. We got home, we ate chili dogs.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Wow, that's crazy. Are you still with your baby moms.
- 23:44Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Well I got three of them, so I'm with one
- 23:47Speaker 2: of them.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, we're not with the original og nah.
- 23:52Speaker 2: But that's my family. I love it to death and
- 23:53Speaker 2: I always will.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Okay, So what's the next? So at this point you
- 23:58Speaker 1: feel like you made it, like kind of explain a
- 24:01Speaker 1: day in the life.
- 24:02Speaker 2: A day in life while I'm working on an active
- 24:05Speaker 2: series is different than the day in life just a
- 24:08Speaker 2: regular day in life, because you know, again when I'm
- 24:11Speaker 2: in the middle of season, it's always great. Get up
- 24:13Speaker 2: early in the morning. Driveway. As matter of fact, we
- 24:16Speaker 2: shot excuse me, we shot season three of Black Jesus
- 24:18Speaker 2: right down the street here, okay, and get up in
- 24:22Speaker 2: the morning, come on set, eat up they food, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 2: enjoy all the white man amenities, and you know, have
- 24:27Speaker 2: a great time. You know what I mean. My day
- 24:30Speaker 2: in life is different from me. It could be a
- 24:31Speaker 2: little bit of anything, like right now. You know, I
- 24:35Speaker 2: get up every day. I shoot my sketches every day,
- 24:37Speaker 2: take my calls, my emails, trying to line up new
- 24:40Speaker 2: shows and things of that nature. But you know, I
- 24:42Speaker 2: don't know, it just depends. Every day is different, just
- 24:45Speaker 2: like anybody else, I have no Oh, I go to
- 24:48Speaker 2: the gym every day at six am. I have two
- 24:50Speaker 2: protein bottle shakes seven. I don't know.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I don't know when you're not when you're so, when
- 24:56Speaker 1: you're in the middle of a series, you're have consistent money,
- 24:59Speaker 1: consistent work coming in. When you're not, is there any
- 25:03Speaker 1: like little seeds of doubt entering your mind? Or is
- 25:07Speaker 1: there any like what am I doing? Is there any
- 25:09Speaker 1: second guessing going on.
- 25:11Speaker 2: All the time? I'm human? You want another one?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah? I do. I feel like we should get more cheese,
- 25:15Speaker 1: more bread. We got more bread, all right, go on?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm human. So those seas are doubt always happen,
- 25:24Speaker 2: and I'm I just have to damn, it's part of myself.
- 25:27Speaker 2: I just have to snap out of it.
- 25:29Speaker 1: M H what do you do to snap out of it?
- 25:32Speaker 2: I just remember, I just tell myself, Man, how many
- 25:34Speaker 2: times have you been in this situation? How many times
- 25:38Speaker 2: has has has have you been broke? How many times
- 25:41Speaker 2: have you had no car? How many times? You know?
- 25:44Speaker 2: These things happen, and they happen all the time. Man.
- 25:46Speaker 2: We built for this shit. I make it through. Yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 2: I want to say a lot to day, you know,
- 25:49Speaker 2: some weak people be rich as fuck. Stock market crash,
- 25:53Speaker 2: they jump out the window, you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 25:56Speaker 2: So you know, hell, I just know it's gonna get better.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It's always better days. It's just like this right now,
- 26:00Speaker 2: and I just won't tell anybody that's listening. Look, man,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you're an artist, creative entrepreneur. You got dreams. Keep dreaming
- 26:08Speaker 2: and keep working tourism. Man, don't worry about what's going
- 26:11Speaker 2: on right now, because right now is just right now.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Don't worry about the wind. Just know you're gonna win,
- 26:16Speaker 2: you feel me. Fuck all that bullshit. It's all right man.
- 26:19Speaker 2: Today I'm eating maloney. Tomorrow it might be motherfucking lobsters,
- 26:22Speaker 2: Matt goddamn it, I don't know. And the next day
- 26:25Speaker 2: after that it might be popcorn. But guess what, I'm
- 26:27Speaker 2: still smiling, I'm still standing on tear toes, and I'm
- 26:30Speaker 2: still a real nigga out here. And what I have
- 26:32Speaker 2: is my heart and my integrity and the love and
- 26:34Speaker 2: blessing of God. So I ain't worried about nothing. I'm straight.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I like that when you are. I like the bloney
- 26:43Speaker 1: sandwich is so good, I'm trying not to eat it.
- 26:45Speaker 1: During our whole episode, so I could actually talk about.
- 26:48Speaker 2: You gonna see real nigga particles and ship because I'm
- 26:50Speaker 2: eating maloney with cheese and let us don't worry about it.
- 26:54Speaker 2: You want you want to, motherfucker list.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Do you have people in your circle that are constantly
- 26:58Speaker 1: like when you're in doubt, like picking you back up
- 27:01Speaker 1: or reminding you what your purpose is?
- 27:03Speaker 2: Absolutely? Man, Absolutely man. Absolutely, my girl, she she's very
- 27:08Speaker 2: supportive of me. I appreciate her for that. You know,
- 27:11Speaker 2: I got a couple of homeboys that always call me
- 27:13Speaker 2: with some words of wisdoms. Some game man shout out
- 27:16Speaker 2: to my boy Andre truth man. Y'all make sure y'all
- 27:18Speaker 2: check you out. We got a new we got a
- 27:21Speaker 2: series together on Amazon right now called Selli's check it out.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Selly see damn c E L l I E s
- 27:30Speaker 2: Sellies on Amazon. You know what I'm saying, y'all gotta
- 27:33Speaker 2: part me. I'm eating real food. See that's what y'all
- 27:36Speaker 2: don't have on Hollywood, and motherfuckers like be dainty and
- 27:40Speaker 2: barely eat. Be hungry as a motherfucker. We're gonna eat
- 27:42Speaker 2: this shit real. Go ahead, girl, eat that shit. Ain't
- 27:44Speaker 2: nobody fucked up about it, Cause if you don't eat,
- 27:48Speaker 2: something wrong with you.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I will say that. So in regards to the sandwich,
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think the secret ingredient is definitely the mustard.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Now, next time, try to spicy brown or spicy brown,
- 28:01Speaker 2: try that spicy breat Now you're gonna love that. That's
- 28:04Speaker 2: been nicey breatin. Now, that's been nicey bread. Now.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Now in the world of social media, is that also
- 28:14Speaker 1: like a frustrating turn for you? Or is it like
- 28:17Speaker 1: a different beast? Like how do you view it?
- 28:20Speaker 2: It's it's a different beast. What I mean, I don't
- 28:25Speaker 2: know what could be frustrating. The other thing frustrating about
- 28:27Speaker 2: it is, you know, you don't want to see what
- 28:29Speaker 2: everybody else got to say all the time. But you know, hey,
- 28:33Speaker 2: it's just a different beast man. You know, it's the
- 28:35Speaker 2: world we live in, and you know, we gotta learn
- 28:37Speaker 2: to adapt. And I think for me, I came in
- 28:40Speaker 2: at a time. You know, I was born in the
- 28:43Speaker 2: era right before you know, right before this information age
- 28:47Speaker 2: or whatever they like to call it, and I kind
- 28:49Speaker 2: of came in it, so I wasn't necessarily raised in it,
- 28:54Speaker 2: but I came early enough to understand it, so you know,
- 28:58Speaker 2: it is what it is. Social media is one large
- 29:01Speaker 2: facade and you just gotta know how to navigate it.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Now, have you you've been in the game a long time.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Have you seen some pairs of yours surpass you? And
- 29:09Speaker 1: how did you feel about it? Like, how did you
- 29:12Speaker 1: feel about it internally? Like if you have to be
- 29:14Speaker 1: fully transparent, I.
- 29:15Speaker 2: See a lot of people, a lot of my peers,
- 29:18Speaker 2: you know, making advancements. I wouldn't necessarily say surpassed. That
- 29:21Speaker 2: ain't the word I'm gonna use because if I'm in
- 29:23Speaker 2: my own lane, you passing me as a no, you don't,
- 29:28Speaker 2: I'm in my lane. So, but I've seen a lot
- 29:31Speaker 2: of people make advancements that that are advancing, you know,
- 29:36Speaker 2: and more power to them, you know, do I think
- 29:38Speaker 2: they're the most talented people? Know, there are a lot
- 29:40Speaker 2: of very talented people that are making advancements. To shout
- 29:42Speaker 2: out to them, and there's some people that are not
- 29:45Speaker 2: as advanced, that's not as talented, that are making advancements.
- 29:49Speaker 2: And I'm gonna shut out them too, cause whatever it
- 29:50Speaker 2: take to get you there. I mean, if the people
- 29:53Speaker 2: like it, hey man, they if you like it, I
- 29:55Speaker 2: love it. You know, but I don't necessarily, you know,
- 29:57Speaker 2: think everybody's the dopest but you And how do I
- 30:01Speaker 2: feel about it? On trip? Because Aaron mcgrudy told me
- 30:04Speaker 2: a long time ago, don't count another nigga pockets, don't
- 30:06Speaker 2: worry about what another nigga got going on.
- 30:08Speaker 1: So I agree with that. But even me personally, I
- 30:11Speaker 1: saw in the last year some people that came out
- 30:14Speaker 1: nine months ago, six months ago, and they just when
- 30:17Speaker 1: I say, flew past the line, you know, I'm just
- 30:21Speaker 1: saying personally, like I definitely had those like what the
- 30:25Speaker 1: I mean?
- 30:25Speaker 2: I guess it is a bit frustrating to see, you know,
- 30:30Speaker 2: some of these winner dudes, you know, in some positions
- 30:33Speaker 2: in which you feel like, you know, again, I'm being
- 30:36Speaker 2: honest with you. We humans, So sometimes I feel like
- 30:38Speaker 2: some of you niggas is undeserving and some of the
- 30:40Speaker 2: shit you get. But sometimes but who am I to
- 30:44Speaker 2: say what you deserve? Only God knows what you deserve.
- 30:46Speaker 2: So again, and even sometimes you know, you see these
- 30:50Speaker 2: people making these advancements, you know, going up to the top.
- 30:54Speaker 2: It might not really be the top they going it might,
- 30:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. Sometimes they see some extreme
- 31:03Speaker 2: highs only to be led to some extreme lows, you know,
- 31:06Speaker 2: and so you got to be mindful of that. You know,
- 31:09Speaker 2: there's a lot of people dealing with a lot of
- 31:11Speaker 2: ship behind the scenes. Some of these famous and powerful
- 31:14Speaker 2: people deal with a lot of ship behind the scenes
- 31:16Speaker 2: that you know, a lot of us don't and a
- 31:19Speaker 2: lot of us aren't built.
- 31:20Speaker 1: For so well. I will say that too, like sometimes
- 31:24Speaker 1: when someone rises that fast, that fall could be even
- 31:26Speaker 1: more painful.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, man, juvenile says the best that overnight money
- 31:30Speaker 2: could be lose your life money. I mean, it's cool,
- 31:48Speaker 2: you know that that ascension is is definitely a great
- 31:52Speaker 2: thing to experience. However, I believe that, you know, you
- 31:57Speaker 2: have to be prepared for that type of altitude. You
- 32:00Speaker 2: can a seeing fast, but if you ain't got the
- 32:03Speaker 2: right gear, the air thin up there, you ain't gonna
- 32:06Speaker 2: be able to breathe. So you got at least, you know,
- 32:09Speaker 2: make sure you got the right shit, you know, on
- 32:12Speaker 2: your assension.
- 32:13Speaker 1: If you had to choose between being famous and well known,
- 32:17Speaker 1: because you're already well known, if you had to choose
- 32:20Speaker 1: between being famous and well known and having or having
- 32:24Speaker 1: healthy pockets.
- 32:26Speaker 2: And give me the money any day, fuck this fame.
- 32:29Speaker 2: This fameous some bullshit. Look here, the richest motherfucker don't
- 32:33Speaker 2: have to say nothing. He's still the loudest motherfucking the room.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Because money moves shit. So fuck this fame. It's nice.
- 32:38Speaker 2: I enjoy the support that that that people. You know,
- 32:42Speaker 2: they fuck with me, they fuck with my craft, they
- 32:44Speaker 2: fuck with my brand. I really enjoy it. I support it.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Thank you. I do that, and that's why I do it,
- 32:49Speaker 2: because for the support for the fans, you know what
- 32:51Speaker 2: I mean, thank you, And you know all that stuff
- 32:54Speaker 2: translate to money eventually down the line. But you know,
- 32:58Speaker 2: to answer your question, the fame or the money, give
- 33:00Speaker 2: me the money. I'd rather be the anonymous nigga in
- 33:04Speaker 2: an executive class laying down on the plane to goddamn
- 33:08Speaker 2: a Bali or something, you know what I mean.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Now here's my other Devil's advocate question. Now, if you
- 33:13Speaker 1: had to choose between the success of being known or
- 33:19Speaker 1: the success of money, like having a lot of money
- 33:23Speaker 1: or being broke doing what you love.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I'd rather have the money. Really, I'd rather have the
- 33:29Speaker 2: money because when you got the money, you're still gonna
- 33:31Speaker 2: do what you love. You better. I got the money,
- 33:34Speaker 2: now I'm really gonna do what I love. I got
- 33:36Speaker 2: the money and the money without the fame, without the
- 33:39Speaker 2: hassle of you know, people you know trying to get
- 33:42Speaker 2: at you and get your attention all the time. Hey, man,
- 33:45Speaker 2: I'll take the money because I'm still gonna do what
- 33:47Speaker 2: I love. With money and anonymity, I could be a
- 33:51Speaker 2: rich bum. I could be a fly on the wall
- 33:54Speaker 2: at the best of both worlds. I can. I can
- 33:56Speaker 2: fly first class, and I can I can sit in
- 33:59Speaker 2: a pissy corner looking at everybody people watch and not
- 34:03Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And you twenty years ago, do you think your answer
- 34:06Speaker 1: would still be the same.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, really twenty years ago, I think the answer
- 34:11Speaker 2: because you know again, I'm older, dude, Man, I think
- 34:15Speaker 2: you damn right. For a long time it been about
- 34:17Speaker 2: the money, you know. I love the craft. I love
- 34:20Speaker 2: the art, and the fame is a byproduct. If I can,
- 34:23Speaker 2: if I can do the art, get the money and
- 34:27Speaker 2: don't have to have the fame, I'll do it, okay,
- 34:30Speaker 2: But the fame is a byproduct of doing your art,
- 34:32Speaker 2: doing your craft. You do it well, that's a by
- 34:34Speaker 2: product of it. So I accept that. I accept the
- 34:36Speaker 2: good with the bad, bad with the good.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Were there any points in your career where if you
- 34:40Speaker 1: could go back at time or personal life, you would
- 34:43Speaker 1: redoce something all over again.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Nope, nothing, because redoing one thing might change the outcome
- 34:50Speaker 2: everything else.
- 34:51Speaker 1: Okay, I'm just saying, even if it didn't, I'm just saying,
- 34:53Speaker 1: is there anything in your life where you were like,
- 34:55Speaker 1: if I could go back, I would have done X
- 34:57Speaker 1: Y Z a little differently?
- 34:59Speaker 2: You know what I think about the worst shit? You know, like,
- 35:01Speaker 2: you know, going to jail, And I still say no,
- 35:05Speaker 2: because again, what I learned there, the connections I made
- 35:08Speaker 2: in there are probably more valuable than anything that I
- 35:14Speaker 2: you know, again, in jail, I made some I met
- 35:17Speaker 2: some great friends, and I got some good game, you
- 35:20Speaker 2: know what I mean. I think that that helped with
- 35:22Speaker 2: my brand of comedy as well, you know what I mean.
- 35:25Speaker 2: So did I going through it? Nah? I didn't want
- 35:28Speaker 2: to go through it, But looking back, I see how
- 35:30Speaker 2: it strengthened me, and it ain't gonna help me. So
- 35:33Speaker 2: isn't anything I'll change. I'm pretty sure nothing I could
- 35:36Speaker 2: just call out right now without making somebody else feel bad.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying, get me some bread man,
- 35:42Speaker 2: you need some more bread because I'm finna eat this sandwich.
- 35:44Speaker 1: So right now, would you say you're rich or would
- 35:47Speaker 1: you say you're You're not doing boloney sandwiches obviously, but.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Oh I'm financially impaired.
- 35:55Speaker 1: I love how you're owning it though.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I'm financially impaired.
- 35:59Speaker 1: It's cool you're not afraid of it, You're embracing it.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Why do you feel like not perpetrating because there's a
- 36:07Speaker 1: lot of people that would say I'm gonna perpetrate. I'm
- 36:11Speaker 1: gonna promote this image.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Because it's too hard to keep up a lie. Niggas
- 36:18Speaker 2: see me out here, Niggas see me in food for us,
- 36:21Speaker 2: Niggas see my credit card decline. You know what I'm saying,
- 36:25Speaker 2: Fake jewelry make my neck turned green. I don't like
- 36:27Speaker 2: driving other niggs cars. Fuck all that perpetration shit, because
- 36:31Speaker 2: at the end of the day, I can only be me,
- 36:35Speaker 2: and if I try to be a meat for you,
- 36:39Speaker 2: it's gonna clash when the time when I need to
- 36:41Speaker 2: be me for me. So you know it is what
- 36:45Speaker 2: it is. One day, Look, I gotta look, I gotta
- 36:48Speaker 2: pair eight hundred dollar Gucci shoes on right now, I
- 36:51Speaker 2: got about forty dollars in my bank account. I ain't tripping,
- 36:55Speaker 2: I ain't trying to look rich. I ain't trying to
- 37:00Speaker 2: perpetrate is poor. It just seems what it is, man.
- 37:03Speaker 1: But I think that the authenticity is needed because we're
- 37:07Speaker 1: in the Instagram age where you know, everyone promotes the
- 37:09Speaker 1: highlight reels. Right, So there's some guy that's like watching
- 37:13Speaker 1: you and they're like wow, you know, and they're maybe
- 37:17Speaker 1: trying to live up to an image. But if you're
- 37:19Speaker 1: actually transparent, you're allowing them to kind of be more
- 37:23Speaker 1: vulnerable and more real with themselves.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, my nigga, it's hard out here. It's hard
- 37:27Speaker 2: out here for a penp and even harder for a whole.
- 37:30Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, What's up with the fascination
- 37:32Speaker 1: of pimping? Like, is there something in particular that fascinates
- 37:36Speaker 1: you about it? Are you just good with the ladies?
- 37:40Speaker 2: I was always fascinated.
- 37:42Speaker 1: What about it fascinated you?
- 37:47Speaker 2: What young man wouldn't want the attention and adoration of
- 37:52Speaker 2: all the ladies. What young man wouldn't want to be
- 37:56Speaker 2: good with the ladies? You know? And what young man,
- 38:01Speaker 2: especially in this world right now, where you know, we're
- 38:05Speaker 2: brought and raised to cater to women. And again I'm
- 38:08Speaker 2: not saying right or wrong, but you know, who don't
- 38:10Speaker 2: want a pretty beautiful woman coming, you know, putting it
- 38:14Speaker 2: in your hand?
- 38:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, putting what money?
- 38:17Speaker 2: Money?
- 38:17Speaker 1: But that's what I'm saying. So pimping technically is like
- 38:21Speaker 1: guys you know playing women, right, it's like a misogynist type.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Well, you know, I'm not a pimp, so I'm not
- 38:27Speaker 2: really I'm not really at liberty to speak on what
- 38:31Speaker 2: the pimping is. I do believe that I got the
- 38:33Speaker 2: is of mimy, but I've never taken the taking the
- 38:35Speaker 2: full steps it takes to become a pimp, So I
- 38:37Speaker 2: don't really want to speak on what what you know
- 38:41Speaker 2: in that regard.
- 38:42Speaker 1: You know, So you're saying, like the only thing you
- 38:44Speaker 1: like about pimping is like the the you know, like
- 38:48Speaker 1: like you you're a good ladies, Like you're good with
- 38:51Speaker 1: the women.
- 38:52Speaker 2: That's the mystique of it all, you know what I'm saying,
- 38:54Speaker 2: being this fly, dashing guy that you know the ladies,
- 38:58Speaker 2: not not the cariacature of a pimp that we see
- 39:02Speaker 2: in comedies and things of that nature. And you know,
- 39:04Speaker 2: I take pimping to a whole different level personally. I say,
- 39:07Speaker 2: anytime you good at something and you know how to
- 39:10Speaker 2: make it work for you, pimping it your author, your songwriter,
- 39:13Speaker 2: You pimping your pen. You know what I'm saying. You're
- 39:16Speaker 2: a mechanic, you're an artist. You do things with your hands.
- 39:18Speaker 2: You pimping your hands. You know what I'm saying, pimping,
- 39:21Speaker 2: whatever it is, pimping, be your own pimp. You know
- 39:23Speaker 2: what I'm talking about. Put it in your pocket. Put
- 39:25Speaker 2: it in your pocket.
- 39:26Speaker 1: But when you're talking about pimping, you're not talking about
- 39:28Speaker 1: relations to money though not really, you're not.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Really, I'm not talking I'm not always necessarily talking about
- 39:35Speaker 2: women on the blade reporting to me and giving me money.
- 39:39Speaker 2: And pimping ain't always, you know, having a woman sell
- 39:44Speaker 2: her body for you. It's a lot of pimps or
- 39:48Speaker 2: they may be called max. It's a lot of dudes
- 39:50Speaker 2: out here getting money from women that work regular jobs
- 39:53Speaker 2: or they work good jobs. You know, if she taking
- 39:55Speaker 2: care of you, you know what I'm saying, she turned
- 39:58Speaker 2: it into you. It don't matter where it's coming from,
- 40:00Speaker 2: you know.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Camping yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, no no, no, I
- 40:02Speaker 1: get it. I get it. So what advice would you
- 40:05Speaker 1: give to a young gunna, a young comedian that's trying
- 40:09Speaker 1: to get in the game.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Don't stop, my nigga, don't stop, and don't doubt yourself.
- 40:14Speaker 2: If you know you funny, be funny and let the
- 40:16Speaker 2: motherfuckers come to you. You ain't got to get up
- 40:18Speaker 2: there and dance with no rubber chicken. You ain't gotta
- 40:21Speaker 2: do what the other niggas is doing. You ain't gotta
- 40:22Speaker 2: go wear no tight ass pants or or or talking
- 40:26Speaker 2: these these uh strange tones and act a certain way.
- 40:33Speaker 2: If you funny, just be funny, man, and let them
- 40:35Speaker 2: come to you. And they gonna come to you, man,
- 40:36Speaker 2: they gonna come to you. Consistency is the key, my
- 40:39Speaker 2: friend Carlos Miller told me, man, if you want to
- 40:41Speaker 2: win in this business is by consistency. So if you're
- 40:44Speaker 2: dropping the podcast, you dropping some content, and you tell
- 40:47Speaker 2: the people that's coming on a certain day, you make
- 40:49Speaker 2: sure you give it to them every time. And it's
- 40:51Speaker 2: a numbers game, you know, just keep going. It might
- 40:54Speaker 2: seem bleak. I don't put a hundred of these out,
- 40:56Speaker 2: Ain't nobody well, it might be one O one that
- 40:59Speaker 2: the motherfucker catch fire for you, So you just gotta
- 41:02Speaker 2: keep going.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been actually personally noticing that with myself. I
- 41:07Speaker 1: will say though off camera we've we've been hanging out
- 41:10Speaker 1: for a while now, before we started taping, I would say,
- 41:13Speaker 1: you're more naturally funny. You're you're quick with it, and I,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you know, sometimes I see comedians and it seems like
- 41:20Speaker 1: they're working at it, but you, I could have a
- 41:22Speaker 1: conversation and be like, you know, there's like five jabs
- 41:26Speaker 1: of funny within like three sentences of hanging out with you.
- 41:29Speaker 1: And I remember I noticed that earlier. I was like, Wow,
- 41:32Speaker 1: you're really fast. You're like fast with your punches.
- 41:35Speaker 2: I only smoked two blunts this morning, so I'm you know,
- 41:38Speaker 2: and what's.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Up with the cigarettes? Youre gonna give up the cigarettes? Man?
- 41:40Speaker 2: You shouldn't have said that.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Why I don't smoke cigarettes? Oh Okay. The awkwardness of that,
- 41:49Speaker 1: I feel like I feel like your mom or your
- 41:51Speaker 1: girls watching it, like, oh no, I've been lying to
- 41:53Speaker 1: her about cigarette smoking. Crette, No, you don't smoke cigarettes. Okay,
- 41:58Speaker 1: we'll revisit that off anyways, tell the listeners where we
- 42:03Speaker 1: could keep up with you.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Oh wow. Uh, social media is man, big man. You
- 42:09Speaker 2: know everybody got it. Man. If you want to get
- 42:11Speaker 2: in touch with me the quickest way and the fastest way.

- 42:15Speaker 2: touch with Slink Johnson, you can always hit me up

- 42:34Speaker 1: You just reminded me when I couldn't get ahold of

- 42:42Speaker 1: trying to ding you, ding the publicists like somehow got through,

- 43:19Speaker 1: Johnson and it's black Jesus coming back or uh, the.
- 43:22Speaker 2: White man has told me nothing. However, I'm gonna be optimistic.
- 43:26Speaker 2: I don't want y'all out there in the internet land
- 43:30Speaker 2: quoting me on it because ain't a white man. Ain't
- 43:32Speaker 2: told me shit. But I'm an optimist and I'm gonna
- 43:34Speaker 2: say yes.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Okay, I'm an optimist and I'm gonna say yes with
- 43:37Speaker 1: you and it come. Come by any time, use our space.

- 43:46Speaker 1: And it's dope. My mama painted.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Hey man, she's a talented motherfucker. You a talented motherfucker.
- 43:51Speaker 1: She keeps up telling me to sell it to jay Z.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Why don't you call jay Z and sell it to him?
- 43:55Speaker 1: I'm like, mom, first of all, it's the only one
- 43:57Speaker 1: in the world and I'm not selling it. But but
- 44:01Speaker 1: I don't know if jay Z wants you.
- 44:03Speaker 2: J Jay holler attus man. We got some artwork, the.
- 44:09Speaker 1: One of a kind, one of a kind. I think
- 44:11Speaker 1: if jay Z came up in here he would want it.
- 44:15Speaker 1: He would. But I told my mom that I've pitched
- 44:18Speaker 1: his publicist and attached to the pictures along with a
- 44:20Speaker 1: bunch of other people that I know that have sent
- 44:22Speaker 1: him or said they sent it to him, and he
- 44:24Speaker 1: hasn't reached out yet.
- 44:26Speaker 2: He won one of these sounds, j willis the last time? Yeah?
- 44:29Speaker 2: But lonely sound was nigga? Damn, look at that ship.
- 44:31Speaker 2: This is how you do.
- 44:32Speaker 1: When was the last time you baked the cake?
- 44:35Speaker 2: A couple of years?
- 44:36Speaker 1: Really? I was, you know, after you said you bake
- 44:38Speaker 1: cakes and sell him almost like damn, he should have
- 44:40Speaker 1: brought a cake. Nice cake would have been nice. Different
- 44:45Speaker 1: time in my life, different times.
- 44:46Speaker 2: This is the holidays. I might make a nice German chocolate.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I like? Is that? What is
- 44:51Speaker 1: the upside down cake with the pineapple? Oh my god goodness,
