- 0:06SPEAKER_01: And we are so happy to have you here as we are on the Joy Train.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: We're on the Joy Train.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: What is the Joy Train?
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: So really, my sister-in-law, Lauren Selman, sent me a video.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: It was the Artemis 2.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: It was a video about the crew from the Artemis 2.
- 0:26a bunch of astronauts and it was such an inspiring video
- 0:30natalie and i wanted to
- 0:31jump on our live and talk a little bit about uh what we saw in
- 0:35that video it is
- 0:36posted below so if you haven't seen it you can feel free to to
- 0:39hit that link and
- 0:41please watch it's very short because i don't know about any of
- 0:44you but if you were
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: following any of the videos from artemis 2 it was like
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: It just made my heart explode.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: it was just like,
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: my God,
- 0:55all the craziness and the things and everything that's
- 0:58happening on the planet
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: right now,
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: their perspective from up that high,
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: they were just like,
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: my God,
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: guys,
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: you don't understand.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: We're all like, we're going to be okay.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: It's going to be wonderful.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Was it out of this world, Natalie?
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: It was out of this world.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Couldn't help it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Couldn't help it.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: But really important.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: And,
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: and,
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: and everything like that was so inspiring,
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: but I think the humanity,
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: like,
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: it's like,
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: oh my God,
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: we've forgotten.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: That this is who we are.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:31And I,
- 1:31so this is,
- 1:32and I love because they,
- 1:33they brought up a concept called the joy train.
- 1:36And the truth was they weren't always on it,
- 1:38but the goal was to get on it.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And there is a momentum that's created when we focus our life on joy.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And I just want to bring forward and just keep being a reminder to you,
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: to me,
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: to everyone's watching,
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: to everyone who will watch this,
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: that joy is a uniquely human experience.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Joy is a uniquely human experience.
- 2:03And I kind of think that I love the idea of the joy train
- 2:08because joy is movement.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Joy is momentum, it's energy.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And so I love just kind of the visual of that.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: and if you've noticed the logo that we've chosen for the Joy Jolt,
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: it is the jolt or the bolt in the middle of the logo.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: And then there's the ripples that go out.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Because, I mean, joy is contagious.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 2:33And I think there's been so much,
- 2:36I mean,
- 2:37we're holding so much right now.
- 2:39Now,
- 2:39I think personally,
- 2:41we have a whole ton of stuff on our plates and I know I do.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: But then there's the world,
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: and I'm getting to a point where I'm like,
- 2:50I can't even look at what's happening over there right now
- 2:52because I'm trying to
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: deal with everything I've got on my plate right now.
- 2:57So,
- 2:58but I can go days without thinking,
- 3:02wait a minute,
- 3:03what's bringing me joy today?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Because I think we're kind of in survival mode.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: We're just in like, we've got to get through this.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: You know, how do I, how do I life at the moment?
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Life in life has been really difficult.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: And so what, this is what part of what we want to do.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: And we want to give you a little jolt, little joy injections.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: What are we doing today to bring ourselves joy?
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And I,
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: what I loved about watching that video is that,
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: that,
- 3:35that it validates the importance of this conversation from both
- 3:39a personal level.
- 3:41from a professional level and from a humanity,
- 3:45kind of like a global perspective.
- 3:47For them to be all the way up there doing what they're doing
- 3:50and still bringing
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: that forth,
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: it's that sense of that's the goal.
- 3:56And I think that sometimes it's like,
- 3:57oh,
- 3:57we all wanna have a happy life,
- 3:58let's be happy.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: But I kind of look at joy as that joy is happiness in action.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: It's in the energy.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: So there's that playful, fun,
- 4:08place that we can go back to at any given moment and remind
- 4:12ourselves of our
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: deepest humanity is our joy and life,
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: a life lived there.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: is a deeper, more human, more sacred experience, right?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And so as you were talking about,
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: you were thinking about your plate,
- 4:27I was thinking about how full your plate is and the pressure
- 4:32that can be on the
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: plate and that it's like this,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: right?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: You're like, oh, everything's just squeezed in.
- 4:37And that this journey of getting onto the joy train or jolting
- 4:40and having joy jolts
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: is,
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: and you're going to hear us say this over and over again,
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: it's the mantra of,
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: oh,
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: wait a minute,
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I need to just open myself.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I need to take a deep breath.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I need to open myself.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: I need to just open yourself to.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And I think joy as a practice,
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: like joy as a practice is reminding ourselves that,
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: we want to stop and smell the roses.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: We want to, you know, enjoy that cup of coffee.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: You know, I've had a couple of, you know, I call them gray days.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Because, you know, I have a ton happening in my life right now.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: So I do what I call a gratitude walk.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: And I'm actually staying at a girlfriend's house at the moment.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: And she lives in a really pretty neighborhood.
- 5:27And so I'm out in the mornings and I'm appreciating the flowers
- 5:31in the gardens and
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: how well everyone has manicured their lawn and the smells.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And there's so many birds and things up here.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Like it's just really appreciating.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And, you know, it's like a mindful walk.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: But I call it a gratitude walk because I'm like,
- 5:45not just noticing or acknowledging these things and dropping
- 5:48deeply into the
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: moment,
- 5:49but I'm grateful that I get to experience it and I'm grateful
- 5:53that I get to hear it
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: and I'm grateful that I get to see it.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: And that's how I get back my energy.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: That's how I get back into my joyful energy.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Well,
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: and I think one of my practices is the,
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: remember the importance of play to play and have fun.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: But I think as adults, we forget,
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: what play looks like, you know, and we think, well, what is play?
- 6:15And what I've realized is that play is giving yourself the
- 6:20permission and space to
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: think about what do you want?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: What do you want to think?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: What do you want to feel?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: What do you want to create?
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: What do you want to generate without any explanation, right?
- 6:30Because we kill the play and we take the joy out of life when
- 6:35we start doing what I
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: call balloon popping,
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: right?
- 6:39And this happens in marriages and in relationship dynamics all
- 6:42the time where you
- 6:43have one person who I call a balloon launcher that's trying to
- 6:46be playful and
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: launch some ideas.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: They don't have to go anywhere but up.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Just let them go up.
- 6:53But you inevitably have that one person in the relationship
- 6:56that's the balloon
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: popper that goes,
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: well,
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: how are you going to do that?
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Where are you going to get the money for that?
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Well, that's not very realistic.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: And so I think that as adults,
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: and this has become a really important practice for my husband and I,
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: is that the first Tuesday of every month,
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: we go to breakfast and we just launch balloons.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: And we always say, you got to leave your darts at the door.
- 7:19And so it's this playful practice of allowing the energy of
- 7:24what do I want to think?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: What do I want to feel?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: What do I want to create?
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Looking at my future,
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: not bound by what's happening in the past or the present,
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: that really elicits a lot of joy for me.
- 7:35But I have found that that is a practice that I have to hold
- 7:38space for because as
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: adults,
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: we're really good at sucking the joy out of possibility.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And the thing is when,
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: when there's a lot of other stressful situations happening,
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: you just get sucked into that.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:57You know,
- 7:57and that's why for me,
- 7:58my,
- 7:58my joy practice is always in the morning.
- 8:01I've got to do it in the morning because it sets up my energy
- 8:05for the rest of the day.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: You know, otherwise I'm good.
- 8:09But one of the things I loved about that video was towards the
- 8:13end of the video,
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: as you'll see,
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: I think it was,
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: what's his name?
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Reed Wiseman.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Reed Wiseman's the captain.
- 8:23He got the other three astronauts up and they all kind of had
- 8:26their arms around each other.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: And he said,
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: I know that you've been seeing,
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: like humanity and everything in us.
- 8:34He goes,
- 8:34but I want you to know that what you see in us is a reflection
- 8:38of who you are as well.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And as human beings, we desire that reflection of joy.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: We,
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: it's like,
- 8:47I always say like people don't need to learn how to be in
- 8:49dysfunctional situations.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: We know how to do that.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: It's, it's about how do we have higher functioning, right?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: How do we have more happiness, more joy, more connection, more love?
- 9:01And that was what they ended on was was really it was the
- 9:05through line is is being
- 9:07that loving reflection for yourself and that loving reflection
- 9:12for the world.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: And that's what we want to see more of.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: So our question to you is what is your joy practice?
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what is your joy practice?
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: And we would love for you to leave a comment for us.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Let us know what it is that you do.
- 9:29You know,
- 9:30in the joy job community,
- 9:31we want all of us to be able to rise up.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: We want to be the ripples,
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: not just for ourselves and not just for you,
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: but all the people that you love in your life as well.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: You know, how do you practice your joy?
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:46And if you have any suggestions or anything that you do,
- 9:49we would love to hear from you.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: For you to contribute to this conversation.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:54And we're super excited to say we broke 600 subscribers,
- 9:58which is super exciting.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: We just joined Substack a few weeks ago.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: We're already at 600 subscribers.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: And we really look at all of our subscribers as jolters.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: Because this is that ripple effect.
- 10:09And a lot of people are choosing to come on board as a paid
- 10:14subscriber so that they
- 10:15can hear more information from Nat and I and just be a part of
- 10:18this conversation in
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: an even deeper way.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: in an even more playful way.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: So if you feel called to join the community that way,
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: please,
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: we'd love to have you come on as a paid member.
- 10:30And we'd also love for you to share this information with
- 10:33people in your lives who
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: could just be reminded of the importance of being in this conversation.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Do people need a joy jolt?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: It's like, send someone a joy jolt.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Joy jolt!

- 11:29SPEAKER_01: She's an astrologer.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: She also works in government as well.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: So she's like a really interesting mix.
- 11:35But there is a lot of things happening on the planet,
- 11:39energies that are at play today.
- 11:41that astrologically she can explain for us so it'll be great to
- 11:46understand what's
- 11:47happening how we can prepare what we can anticipate so we'll be
- 11:52going deep diving
- 11:54into that and helping to explain some of the events that are
- 11:58happening in the world
- 11:59right now and maybe why you are feeling a certain way it'll
- 12:03help to explain all of
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: that so we can put your mind at ease and get you back into a place of joy
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Let's get back to that place of joy.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Let's just open ourselves.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Let's regulate our nervous system.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: Let's just really practice feeling good.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: We're really good at feeling tense.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: We're really good at feeling stressed,
- 12:20but you can be just as good at regulating that nervous system
- 12:23and feeling what is
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: your birthright.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: It's joy, right?
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: We want to bring more of that back into the world.
