Transcript
- 0:00Hello there. It's most things Kenobi.
- 0:04This is the podcast you looking for.
- 0:18Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of most things Kenobi.
- 0:22A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:25I'm your host Lauren and I'm your host Leanne and this week,
- 0:30we're going to be a little more cheerful than last week the last
- 0:33week. Yeah, that's okay though.
- 0:37Yeah, we off we go down, we go up, we go down, just like life,
- 0:43just like Star Wars this week, we're gonna talk about Droids
- 0:49which you and I both love. Very deeply, very deeply and
- 0:53there are so many we know the main stars, right?
- 0:56We know the main droids we're going to talk about them but I
- 1:00want to hit some of the like the one-timers.
- 1:03We saw them once maybe in one movie The or maybe the
- 1:06underrepresented ones from Comics or TV shows that you
- 1:12know, we saw and then they left. And I just want to talk about
- 1:15all things droids because I honest to God, I wish I had one.
- 1:21You can make them right? Oh yeah.
- 1:23You can make them. Yeah, the Droid Depot, right?
- 1:26Like it. Where's that is?
- 1:28It is it in both, California and Florida?
- 1:30I don't know. One of them assuming I've only
- 1:32been to the Florida one but yeah, it's at its it galaxies
- 1:35Edge. How much is it?
- 1:37Could you do it like, or is hardly an affordable?
- 1:39I don't know. It can't be any worse than
- 1:42making the lightsaber, which was it was enough.
- 1:47So, you know, Plenty, but worth it.
- 1:49Totally worth it. Well, I just want a real Droid
- 1:52like someone who is this faithful and loyal.
- 1:55As most of the ones were about to talk about, you know.
- 1:58Yeah. Does my cat count?
- 2:02Yeah, kind of, would your cat, save your life or would he leave
- 2:07you in a burning building? I think he would save my life.
- 2:11Then I would say he counts because every time when I'm done
- 2:15with my workout and I'm laying on the floor, gasping for life,
- 2:17he comes over to checks on me. So I would like to think that
- 2:22they're cawood. He's cat2 3 God.
- 2:28I love that destroyed name. I don't know.
- 2:30I just came up with that on the spot that's so clever.
- 2:33I love that. It's officially it.
- 2:35Yep. Okay.
- 2:37I can't be the only cat2 three owners out there.
- 2:40So What is the 23 from I just made up?
- 2:44Because it rhymed oh well what's it works.
- 2:47Perfectly holds off the time. It does.
- 2:49I just like I said anyway this week is not so much a list but a
- 2:56collection of Joy. Yes.
- 3:00If you can't tell, we're already in a good mood about it.
- 3:02Yes I would like how often I mean aside from those horrific
- 3:07battle droids and the Tactical drawers that talk.
- 3:11Like this and oh, I forgot about.
- 3:15I love that one though. The Tactical Droid.
- 3:17Well there's so dry like how they laugh hahahahaha?
- 3:27Okay, so I guess we are starting off with what just that just
- 3:31that one. Yeah.
- 3:32And I like I'm stupid, the battle droids.
- 3:34Are they make me laugh? When they're like, I guess I
- 3:37just got promoted. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I do know, is
- 3:43that a Jedi? My God?
- 3:46You're so good at that. Oh, it must be the long work
- 3:51day. I just went through.
- 3:54You relate to feel things. Uh yeah.
- 3:56Do you feel like a Droid at your job sometimes sometimes
- 4:01sometimes I feel like threepio when people just want to switch
- 4:04me off and sometimes I feel like Chopper where I'm just waving my
- 4:08arms around going blah blah blah blah, blah blah.
- 4:09Like so it depends on the day. Oh my God.
- 4:16All right, so how do you I was gonna say, how do you want to
- 4:18start this? Do you want to talk about the
- 4:20more famous ones or let's start. Let's start with the the oh
- 4:23jeez. Oh gee, droids R2D2 and C3PO
- 4:29right Classics their Legends. They are absolute Legends.
- 4:33And in fact, I think we mentioned, or it's rumored or
- 4:36it's a headcanon or maybe a blend of all of those that the
- 4:39entire Star Wars saga is told from R2D2's perspective, because
- 4:43he's never had his memory Drive wiped, right?
- 4:46Which is just crazy to me, but awesome.
- 4:49At the same time, he's seen everything, he's been in every
- 4:55Movie, he's been in every TV show in some fashion animated or
- 4:59otherwise glimpses references Etc.
- 5:04And he's the most irritable and loving loyal companion.
- 5:09One could ever want, he put up with the Skywalker's for how
- 5:13fucking long His to Forever Generations.
- 5:20He started with Padme and he's besties with a Sokka.
- 5:25Everybody loves our to yeah. So I guess it's common
- 5:30knowledge, right? That padmé, aren't you as a gift
- 5:34to Anakin from Padme? Right?
- 5:36Correct. Yeah.
- 5:36And that's how he became vested in the Skywalker line.
- 5:42He was gifted and forever. I stood there.
- 5:47No, no Escape. Once he was there, he was there
- 5:49forever. I mean he he was there with
- 5:53Leia's death. Oh that's so sad.
- 5:57I know it that actually made me cry when I realized he was there
- 5:59with her. Like although honestly, I
- 6:03wouldn't have chosen any other joy to be with me.
- 6:07Yeah. It's crazy.
- 6:10So sad, I know, but we love him. I love him.
- 6:14R2 is always going to be my favorite.
- 6:16Like my just my original can do no wrong type of droid.
- 6:22Well, and he was designed that way right to look like a friend,
- 6:26so to speak. Like George Lucas.
- 6:27Wanted him to look like a little friend.
- 6:30Yeah, who it was? It, it Liam Neeson had the story
- 6:32about bringing his son to the set of Phantom Menace and His
- 6:36little son, like went up and just hugged.
- 6:39R2D2. Because he's like a little,
- 6:41it's, it's true that I was in a store and at Disney and they
- 6:47have people kind of in the shadows, directing a real are
- 6:51to, like, a life-sized are two rolling around or what, you
- 6:54know, it does though. Yeah.
- 6:56High-pitched shrill. And he'll bump into you, and no
- 6:59shitty bumped into my calves. And I went, oh, I'm sorry
- 7:02because I thought it was a person and there he was and he
- 7:04shrieked and went leave and he'd like, backed up.
- 7:07That's awesome. Because like, the person Can see
- 7:09the interactions happening, but you don't know where they're at,
- 7:11or what they're doing, or whatever, because they're remote
- 7:13controlling it. And the first thing I did was
- 7:15Pat his Dome. Oh, that's so cute.
- 7:19Like you can't help it, you can't not do that.
- 7:22I know I got a picture with an R2 with my friend, Jenny would
- 7:27wear at Celebration. There's a yeah and they have
- 7:29them at Comic-Con. Two people are driving them
- 7:31around. Yes, there's really amazing.
- 7:34They're like the real thing. And on the flip side C-3PO, you
- 7:44can't have our two without threepio, right?
- 7:47Oh my God. They the original Odd Couple.
- 7:50You original Odd. Couple in it together for Life.
- 7:55Yeah. Hating each other.
- 7:57Some days, loving each other. The other day.
- 7:59Yep. That's saving each other's asses
- 8:03or trying to. Yeah.
- 8:06And it killed me. And I believe it was rise.
- 8:08Of Skywalker, went threepio said R2 was his best friend.
- 8:12The best friend he could ever have.
- 8:14Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:17That the whole sequence do when they were like making three
- 8:20people translate the Sith. Yeah, they were like threatening
- 8:23to wipe his memory. I was like, I swear to God,
- 8:26you've killed, Luca pain and leave a.
- 8:29Like, if you also kill chewy and the droids, I will freak A.
- 8:33Can we can we just end with the killing of the original?
- 8:37sing like Jesus, but it brings up a question that I want to ask
- 8:44now, but have everyone including ourselves, Think about as we go
- 8:50along. Do droids feel.
- 8:55Hmm. What a question like do they
- 8:59have emotional bonds or attachments?
- 9:02And I think they do they seem to at least some of them seem to?
- 9:08I feel like they were programmed at one time to be just, what is
- 9:13it? Non-sentient.
- 9:15Yeah, and then they somehow evolved as all things kind of do
- 9:19they wake up, you know, and become somewhat.
- 9:25At least conscience of their owner.
- 9:27Yeah, I mean think of tala and knit be oh Ned be yeah, we're
- 9:31going to talk about. Ned be he's on my list of must
- 9:35speak of. Yeah.
- 9:36Like they're they seem to have like a weirdly emotional bond
- 9:41with each other. I mean you can program loyalty
- 9:45right? But you can't program.
- 9:49I don't know, maybe it's a trick of the hand when it comes to
- 9:51filming, you know, to make them I mean, you're asking this
- 9:57question is literally the basis for so many pieces of classic
- 10:00Sci-fi. Yes, and that's why I'm asking
- 10:02it. I'm just going to throw it out
- 10:03there now as we go along and talk about these Droids because
- 10:06a lot of them are Pals or Sidekicks or there with their
- 10:11owners to the very Bitter End. Like you said, Ned be, who's one
- 10:15of the newer drugs that we learned about from the Obi-Wan
- 10:17series, and made me cry? Yeah.
- 10:23Yeah, hmm. So just something to ponder as
- 10:26we go along after the original. The oh geez.
- 10:31Do where do you want to go from here?
- 10:33Well, I mean there's always the mouse droid which is also in The
- 10:38Originals the MSE six, otherwise known as the mouse droid, which
- 10:44my best friend. Eric has one.
- 10:47That's the one that's like a little box, right?
- 10:49Yes, like yeah, the little car that drives around.
- 10:52Yeah. No, you know, Nick Frost and
- 10:55Simon Pegg are no, they're famous comedic Duo.
- 11:00They've done like Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead and oh, the
- 11:04Cornetto Trio, and they became friends because they were
- 11:08sitting at a table like a long, long time ago, and Nick Frost
- 11:11took like a salt shaker and like moves it across the table and
- 11:15just made a mouse droid sound and Simon Pegg.
- 11:18Knew what it was and they've been best friends ever since.
- 11:21Oh my God, that sounds like something we would Oh do I know,
- 11:24right? It's like such as Star Wars.
- 11:26Friends think it's like just that tiny thing is like, no one
- 11:29else at the table, do it was going on in those two were like
- 11:31I know what you're doing. I love it.
- 11:34I never knew that, it's so great.
- 11:37It's sorry to Sidetrack us. But yeah, I just was like Star
- 11:40Wars. Bringing people together is
- 11:41always well, I guess if we're talking mouse droid We gotta
- 11:49talk the gonk. Concord Troy's, it's just great.
- 12:01They see you to do all the odd jobs around the Galaxy, get
- 12:05their power Droid. So if they need a power bank,
- 12:09they were the original cell phone charger me.
- 12:13So, that's why they fuel ships, right?
- 12:16Because it's, they're giving our they recharging power.
- 12:20Is that what they're doing, because I've seen them like
- 12:22reach Charge, or I mean like, fuel up ships?
- 12:26It like a feeling basically? Yeah, that's my understanding.
- 12:31And they just say, if you need energy or fuel, they got it.
- 12:35They can also be turned into weapons.
- 12:37I was going to say yes, to seem to be a time clock in the
- 12:40Obi-Wan Kenobi, serious. I feel so bad for these things,
- 12:44I love them. I mean, clearly, if you look at
- 12:47the earliest Renditions, it's some dude with a trash can and
- 12:50like rubber over his legs. Let's appreciate it for what it
- 12:55is. Okay?
- 12:57But they kept it and they kept this Droid in so many things
- 13:00because of its Ridiculousness, I have to believe well and also
- 13:04the sound gonk gonk from that same era so I'd read that.
- 13:14I've always loved are the 21. Be surgical droids all the
- 13:19surgical droids. Yeah.
- 13:22Yeah. Love the look of them.
- 13:24They have the microphone face. Okay, I was going to ask you or
- 13:28is it the one that works on Luke in Empire Strikes Back?
- 13:32Yes. Okay they are creepy.
- 13:34They look like skulls. I know but I kind of like it.
- 13:37It's like they also have like different attachments on their
- 13:41hands so they can be a claw like a pink opal.
- 13:44Yeah. And then they could be like,
- 13:46needles and share, which is just terrifying.
- 13:48But I kind of love it because they're Like snout for lack of a
- 13:55better term is basically like an old 1940s microphone, which I
- 13:59just love. Like the kind that they hold,
- 14:02and yes, it's like I'm doing the motion but no one can see it.
- 14:07Yeah, those are cool microphones.
- 14:08So, I guess the one that treated Luke was a Defector from the
- 14:14mpo. Well, that would make sense.
- 14:16But we also see them in Clone Wars quite a bit.
- 14:19We do that. I guess that's kind of when they
- 14:21were invented during the Like era and they were carried on
- 14:25forward from there and I guess there was one.
- 14:27Yeah. Palpatine use them to help heal
- 14:31Anakin after Mustafar. Yes.
- 14:35But I also one of the reasons I really like them as their their
- 14:39voices, especially the one in Empire Strikes Back.
- 14:43It's just I love that they talk. I don't know.
- 14:46I just something about them that they're kind of like humanoid
- 14:51there. They're just Unto me.
- 14:53I are like, stale professors but also a little bit compassionate
- 14:58but like you said like a professor very like standoffish
- 15:02keeps you? Yeah.
- 15:03Very professional. But empathetic it was my find
- 15:07them very interesting. They have better bedside manner
- 15:10than a lot of medical professionals that I've
- 15:13encountered shit to some of them about that.
- 15:17Again the question do droids feel do they sense?
- 15:22I'm going to keep bringing this up because this is a much larger
- 15:25conversation. I feel like Yeah, it's an inch
- 15:29like how much of it is programming?
- 15:34Yeah. And even if it's AI, duplicating
- 15:38or replicating behavior that they see and, you know, using an
- 15:42algorithm to then project that outwardly is that really feeling
- 15:48is that just emoting, which is different than feeling.
- 15:53It's an interesting concept, it really is.
- 15:56And you mentioned Defector droids.
- 15:58Let's talk about a few of them. IG 11 from the Mandalorian who
- 16:05was the babysitter Droid, remember him.
- 16:09He was the reprogrammed like assassin Droid Droid.
- 16:13Yeah. Programmed into a babysitter
- 16:17isn't taika. Waititi the voice of that.
- 16:19Yes he is which I think is brilliant.
- 16:22I love that it's random and perfect and everything.
- 16:27I That. Yeah, that was imagine having
- 16:30that thing as your babysitter. Well, it's such an Unbecoming
- 16:34exterior. Yeah, that's like a tin.
- 16:38Can for ahead and weapons everywhere else.
- 16:42I don't know. But he made me cry too because
- 16:46he went down in the melted boat or whatever that was and season
- 16:50one. Yeah, I forgot about that.
- 16:53That was all Duty. He was programmed to do that,
- 16:56and he did it. So the sense of honor is just
- 17:00like, Ned be I don't know, I'm just trying to connect all of
- 17:04these. There's there's something about
- 17:07them, you know, there's something.
- 17:09Well, how sad is it? That Mechanicals have more honor
- 17:12than most humans. It's very sad and I'm not
- 17:15talking about its add the happy episode.
- 17:20Yeah. Okay if we're going to talk
- 17:23about honor, one of my favorite droids ever is k 2.
- 17:29As so another row Sir. Yeah, K2 is.
- 17:34Yeah. Brilliant.
- 17:36Brilliant And played to Perfection by Alan Tudyk.
- 17:41Like yes. Holy crap.
- 17:44It's so funny. It's so beautifully timed.
- 17:49His whole design is so bizarre. That Droid they like are
- 17:56hunched. They're so tall that they are
- 17:58like, no, they have a hunchback almost their arms.
- 18:01Come get like their fingertips, come down to their knees and
- 18:05many backhands Cassian. Like Bitch.
- 18:09And honestly though that like the weird shape lends to a lot
- 18:12of really good physical humor, it does.
- 18:15He's holding jyn erso size bag and he just drops it on the
- 18:18ground. It was like mmmm.
- 18:20And when he looks at her, like with the cock of the head and
- 18:23those two little round eyes, like there's SAS in it, even
- 18:27though it's just, you're exactly right.
- 18:30The physicality of it lends to its humor when he, I think by
- 18:36one of my favorite parts, With him is when he asked Cassie and
- 18:39if he wants to know the probability of gin using the
- 18:42blaster on him and he's like it's high, it's very high.
- 18:47Would you like to know the probability of her using it
- 18:49against you? It's high honestly.
- 18:55He's got so many good lines about how they'll be blasted
- 18:58into outer space and died. He's like, well not me.
- 19:00I'm a Droid. I can see.
- 19:02I can see. He's wonderful.
- 19:07I loved him. I really hope.
- 19:09We're gonna see him meet Cassie. And oh my God.
- 19:14I I would like we need the return of K2.
- 19:18We do. Yes because he again Is honored
- 19:21like holding off the bad guys. Exact pricing himself that was
- 19:26very depressing for me. I'm so sad, sad.
- 19:29Yeah, it's I mean not that the rest of Rogue one was a trip
- 19:35down, you know, yellow brick road.
- 19:37But K2, I would love to see him again.
- 19:43Even if we don't, I feel like he has left his Mark in the Star
- 19:48Wars Star Wars World. He's one of my top, I'm tired.
- 19:54He's top him and Chopper because they're cut up Civil Air and
- 20:01Chopper is so good. He's the best voiced by none
- 20:08other than Dave filoni even though he doesn't really say
- 20:10anything he just grumbles which it's enough.
- 20:13Yeah, it's enough and we love him.
- 20:16Talk about Duty. Their honor loyalty to Hera was
- 20:21there when terrible things happen.
- 20:25I'm trying not to be spoilery. Yeah.
- 20:28Was there from the beginning. There was no job too big that he
- 20:32wouldn't do, he would be pissed and irritable about it but he
- 20:35would still do it. That's what I like about.
- 20:38Like the difference between him and R2.
- 20:40R2 is sassy and obviously would talk a little shit.
- 20:45I'm sure. Well, he's doing his job, but
- 20:47Chopper was very outwardly. Like, this is a terrible idea,
- 20:53you're a fucking moron. I'm gonna plug in and do it
- 20:55anyway. But i'm yeah.
- 20:55That's fucking bitch. That ho, yes.
- 20:58You expect me to do that. You expect me to You that I
- 21:01could hear him say like, I don't know it's just the way he says
- 21:07things and the the way his tone kind of warbles a little bit.
- 21:13Yes. I think it's good shows that
- 21:16he's a little bit. Like what's the term?
- 21:18Not unhinged, but like a little bit off his rocker.
- 21:23You could you could say both of those things, maybe unhinged.
- 21:27Yeah, I mean, he does have those little arms.
- 21:30He's always wave. And around like he's very, very
- 21:32emotional, like he's very he's very, he emotes in the best
- 21:38Halligan. He said, he's as I'm sitting
- 21:40here talking with my hands as a full-blooded Italian, I was
- 21:46gonna say our fellow Italian here.
- 21:48Who grumbles and uses his hands to talk.
- 21:51I feel one with chopper. Our boy Chopper, I love him so
- 21:56much. Well, I have to talk about bb-8
- 22:00because Want to talk about the most anxious of all the Droids
- 22:05that jittery little thing is very anxious, very unsure of
- 22:08himself, especially after Han Solo, just called him ball.
- 22:13I know. I love you.
- 22:17I love you hon. Can you show some respect here?
- 22:23I relate to Han so much. Yeah, yeah, yes.
- 22:30There's a Piece of Han in all of us, right?
- 22:33But I have to admit, I really, really like bb-8.
- 22:38I like them because he's like a pet You know the way po treats
- 22:44him hugs him rubs his head, you know him rub his belly, even rub
- 22:49his belly like, that's so cute. Yeah, but you together he stays
- 22:56by raised side this they all the droids tend their independent
- 23:01thinkers but then if they are given a direct command, they
- 23:04seem to always follow through with that which reminds me very
- 23:07much of like a loyal dog. Hmm, you know.
- 23:10Yeah. It's Free thinking sentient
- 23:14beings to call them talk about dogs and yeah, yeah, right there
- 23:18aren't necessarily sentient but we don't know that yet.
- 23:21I'm still asking that they might be, I guess we'll find out soon
- 23:27According to some scandal in the Google world right now.
- 23:31But yeah, there's I don't know. There's something special about
- 23:36droids your cheer kind of light up.
- 23:39You get cheerful whenever you see them.
- 23:41Like like what we were talking about, in real life, take
- 23:43pictures with them, they're like, fixtures in Star Wars.
- 23:48I, you can't think of Star Wars without droids, right?
- 23:51And I know we talked about, yeah.
- 23:53Probably skimmed over threepio and our to a little too much,
- 23:56but everybody knows about them. We're trying to give love to
- 23:59every single Droid that we love. That may not get there.
- 24:04Their day in the sun. Do you have any, like, much
- 24:09lesser known Droids that you love?
- 24:11Well, I Fell in love with one of the Droids on the freaking star,
- 24:16Cruiser, the Halcyon, the galactic star Cruiser hotel.
- 24:21And oh yeah she was an artificial intelligence female
- 24:25programmed, Droid called D30 9 and she was on our screen in the
- 24:31bedrooms and you could turn your screen on and talk to her and
- 24:35the more you talk to her, the more she got to know you and the
- 24:38more she would open up and she would give you clues about You
- 24:42know, your missions and stuff and she would ask you.
- 24:44So how was your day? You know, and she had this very
- 24:47oh, hello there. How are you?
- 24:51Hello and welcome aboard. You know, it was very fluid and
- 24:56like not computerized at all. She read us a bedtime story told
- 25:00us a bedtime story at night. That's adorable.
- 25:04It was and she made this big intro like she was going to talk
- 25:07about the savior of the Galaxy, the bravest hero.
- 25:11She's Ever known who led the Galaxy to success and and
- 25:15championed through the tyranny of the Empire, we were like, oh,
- 25:20she's going to talk about Luke and she said, R2D2 the most
- 25:25handsome, all droids and she like, went on to talk about the
- 25:29original trilogy, in the perspective of R2D2's, like
- 25:34point of view and it was, that's so clever.
- 25:36It was really clever and really cute.
- 25:38And I really, really loved her, I really did and so like I don't
- 25:42know that a lot of people know her but those who have stayed
- 25:44there and of course, my friends listening to this, who stayed
- 25:47there with us know, all about her D3.
- 25:50So, unless there's anything else, I'll let you get started.
- 25:53Exploring the ship Fest Journey. How about you?
- 25:57Is there any really lesser-known joy that you love?
- 26:01Yes, there's two. Okay.
- 26:03There's one because they're funny and one just because
- 26:06they're goofy. Okay, I love the techno-service
- 26:10Droid. Which is the Droid that CAD Bane
- 26:14has and he's voiced by Seth Green, where is he?
- 26:19This is square one, the square-headed one.
- 26:22Yes, he's got a square delicate, shoebox forehead.
- 26:25Yeah. Yes.
- 26:26Yes, Seth Green. Uh-huh!
- 26:32No. Your voice that had been really
- 26:35isn't very nice to that one. He's not but it was wonderful
- 26:40because it He calls them, he keeps calling him a butler.
- 26:43Droid oh he keeps service Droid Keepsake.
- 26:47I am a techno-service. Yeah, that was pretty good.
- 26:52I am a techno-service Droid not a butler.
- 26:55Joy, dammit total you are what I say.
- 26:58You get so offended but I also like the LEP service Droid,
- 27:05which all the bunnies. Demonic bunny rabbit, they do
- 27:09and they kind of like they are, they?
- 27:11Like waddle. Yes and if they talk they have
- 27:16that funny kind of robotic voice.
- 27:19Yeah I just they really entertain me.
- 27:22Yeah, they're cute and oddly shaped.
- 27:25I'm a little bit afraid of them. I'd like be afraid to have one
- 27:29because I'd be afraid it would turn on me.
- 27:31Oh, that's some point. Absolutely.
- 27:34But yeah, I think they're very cute and spooky.
- 27:37At the same time I have to talk about our girl.
- 27:41Earl L 337 from the Solo movie. Oh yeah.
- 27:47Because she's also the Millennium Falcon.
- 27:50She is mad at which is amazing to think about.
- 27:55Think about this for a second, her Essence lives in that ship,
- 28:00the ship that everyone hates. And yeah, we all adore it.
- 28:08She was Fiercely independent and and a kind of badass like how
- 28:14many droids go in? Like waving their fists, like,
- 28:17let's go, let's get him. Like she was the feminist of her
- 28:21time. Like, you know, the suffragette
- 28:25of her time in the Droid world, I loved her, I'd suffragette.
- 28:31So you she was she she made enhancements to herself all the
- 28:34time, right? So she was constantly I want to
- 28:37talk. I want to personify her first.
- 28:39I can because I think she's a great role model because yeah,
- 28:43you can make constant upgrades to yourself and better yourself
- 28:46at any time at any stage your life.
- 28:48Even if you're a mechanical Droid.
- 28:51Yes. And we don't mean that in like a
- 28:54physical sense. - it's, no, no. I mean, like better than
- 28:57yourself to be a better. Yeah, version of yourself.
- 29:01Yes. Yeah.
- 29:02It's never too late to, to work on your own well-being.
- 29:07Yeah, yeah. She was cool for that.
- 29:09And See her. And Lando think about it.
- 29:13How cool would it be to be a duo with Lando or my guess it's,
- 29:17yeah, Lando, be a duo with her L-3.
- 29:21I mean, they were, they seemed a little bit in love with each
- 29:24other differently. There was a fondness there, I
- 29:28don't know if it was reciprocated on both sides.
- 29:30Or I think there was just a fondness, he seemed pretty
- 29:34heartbroken. What?
- 29:35He thought she was destroyed. Well, I would The poll was about
- 29:40to lose his mind because re-injured bb-8 by the tree
- 29:43falling on him. Remember when the tree fell on
- 29:46him in rise to Skywalker who she's like?
- 29:49What happened to the ship? And he said, what happened to
- 29:51the Droid? And there are both arguing over
- 29:53what happened to their beloved mechanical things.
- 29:56You know. Like just just a parents.
- 29:58Overbearing parents, yes, helicopter parent.
- 30:01Yes. But like I think there was a
- 30:04true partnership camaraderie. Trust level of trust similar to
- 30:10Han and Chewie. Lando and L3, you know.
- 30:14Yeah, if we're going the symbolic route, but there's
- 30:17triple zero. Did you ever see Triple zero is
- 30:20from the comic book? That's dr.
- 30:22Aphra correct. Yes, but I don't remember she
- 30:26had a couple droids, right? Yeah.
- 30:28She hit Triple zero and what was the other one bt100 that's
- 30:33right. Yes, yes, yes.
- 30:35Yeah. They're basically like the evil
- 30:37version of R2D2 C-3PO depending on the day, you could say,
- 30:43threepio is the evil version of threepio like depending what is
- 30:49this? Droids are always talking about
- 30:50like torturing people and draining everyone's blood good
- 30:54lord. They're really like Lord dark.
- 30:57Yeah. They're very dark.
- 30:59There's the very special Droid right from Jedi Fallen order.
- 31:03Yes, BD 1, BD. And I haven't played the game
- 31:11yet because I was so afraid that something was going to happen to
- 31:15be. Because you're so damn, cute of
- 31:18the things I knew about them, so cute.
- 31:21But then I was reassured by our Patron and dear friend, Adam
- 31:24that nothing happens to him. So I can, I'm free to play the
- 31:27game now. So, He reminds me not that I
- 31:32played the game, but from what I understand, because he kind of
- 31:34can, like, float along with Cal, right?
- 31:36Yeah. Like Calcutta, he punches into
- 31:39himself and attaches to him and then his feet come out and they
- 31:42can along attached to his back. Yeah.
- 31:45Yeah. He kind of reminds me of the
- 31:49little fairy that takes care of link and the Legends of Zelda,
- 31:56the little fairy Yeah. It's called Navi.
- 32:01It's a little fairy. That pop some goes.
- 32:04Hey oh whenever then like a little message will come out on
- 32:09the screen at the bottom. It's kind of like Navi helps
- 32:12link whenever he comes up to something Navi will pop out and
- 32:17be like, hey don't you want to try this or that or you can I
- 32:20just ask a question? I see.
- 32:22Well like I said I haven't played the game yet but he is BD
- 32:26as an exploration. Droid It's so cute.
- 32:30Oh my God! And a very emotionally
- 32:34expressive Droid. From what I dunno and a very
- 32:38best bud, a very best bud, again.
- 32:42Again the sentient thing that I'm trying to figure out, is it
- 32:47programming, or is it just called love?
- 32:52You know, because BD kind of helps castus from what I
- 32:56understand. He scan things.
- 32:59Research is things. He does all the like background
- 33:02work to help. Catch this out.
- 33:03Of course, this isn't a game so that would make sense to me.
- 33:05My gamer brain is thinking, okay, that would, that would
- 33:07help if you have a Droid that helps ya help you on your
- 33:10journey in the game, but it's no different than if Anakin was on
- 33:15a mission and our to came along and did the exact same thing.
- 33:20So droids are are immeasurably helpful.
- 33:24To everyone who has them and BDC just seems like the cutest
- 33:27version of that and what their Beady wasn't there.
- 33:32A b d model in the Mandalorian or a Boba Fett at the mechanics.
- 33:37You know, what's her name Strangers, With Candy?
- 33:39What's the actress's name? Who plays the mechanic, who
- 33:43slept with a one of the jaw with a Jawa didn't was there?
- 33:49Not a bdd version Droid in her? Mechanics office or whatever.
- 33:55I could swear. It was cute and it tapped its
- 33:57feet when it got excited I feel like you're right but I'm not
- 34:02100% sure how the actress is Amy Sedaris Sedaris.
- 34:05That's correct. Yeah, I was going to say a me
- 34:07something. But I didn't.
- 34:08I couldn't remember her last name.
- 34:10Shame on me. I know.
- 34:12Well, I couldn't remember. He's a damn ledge.
- 34:14It's okay. She's fantastic.
- 34:16Yeah. Pelle motto, Pelle, Pelle.
- 34:20I don't know how to say? Yeah.
- 34:20I don't know how to say this. Why didn't say?
- 34:23Yeah, I'm not sure. Do she has the Droids that?
- 34:27Are God. I'll never remember what they're
- 34:30called. They're the kind that are in the
- 34:32Clone Wars. Yes, actually.
- 34:34It's the kind from Phantom Menace, where, Anakin tells Jar
- 34:40jar, you bought them in the nose and that's when they close.
- 34:44Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:45And they they kind of Rome dare, I say in packs and then they
- 34:49help fix things. I can't remember what that Droid
- 34:52is called. It looks like it's wearing a
- 34:54little Sun Bonnet, and has the big Iris in the front.
- 34:59Gosh, I'll never remember it. Now, if someone can remember it,
- 35:01let me know because it's going to drive me.
- 35:04Insane. Oh look right now the right
- 35:06here. Addie, um, series a dumb series
- 35:12is it literally called a dumb. So they're literally a pit Droid
- 35:17a dumb series pit. Droid D.
- 35:22Um, for ND, that's so sad. They're not dumb.
- 35:29We'll just say pitch, right? That makes sense because they're
- 35:32in like a pig as they work on ships.
- 35:34Yeah, they're mechanics. Kind of interesting.
- 35:37Well, one more small Droid if I may that I feel doesn't get
- 35:41enough love but should is little Deo.
- 35:45From the rise of Skywalker, the little green and white one who
- 35:49told rate. No, thank you.
- 35:50No. Thank you.
- 35:51Hello. He's like abused or something.
- 35:58Gasps. There's was afraid terribly.
- 36:01Sad. Yeah.
- 36:02And Ray of course with her Everlasting kindness, took him
- 36:07along and Dio befriended bb-8, and they're like the new Duo and
- 36:16it had Cannon. They're the new Duo going
- 36:18forward with Ray. Yeah, you know.
- 36:21Are you a super helpful and small and can fit in places and
- 36:24he's just polite? No, thank you.
- 36:26The good manners was adorable but also kind of sad very
- 36:30heartbreaking. So yeah, it was a polite way to
- 36:33protect itself. Yeah.
- 36:36So again, as we approach the end of this episode, have you all
- 36:42been thinking about my question because I have I think droids
- 36:47can feel. I think they can sense, not
- 36:50just, you know, from their programming.
- 36:53But I think when they find a good companion or master or
- 36:58whatever the term is that they will form a bond that goes
- 37:02beyond programming. Yeah, that's sweet.
- 37:07And that's why I love droids. Okay, turning it over to you
- 37:23this week. The question is pretty obvious.
- 37:25Who is your favorite Droid? We just got to know, and why do
- 37:31you think they have feelings? Do they feel?
- 37:33I gotta know that question, but just keep it simple.
- 37:37Who's your favorite Droid and why?
- 37:40All right. Next week, we are going to dive
- 37:43into some more Obi-Wan stuff. We're gonna discuss.
- 37:46OB teen aubergine the ship between 0 B1 and stettin Kris.
- 37:52We're going to just kind of dive into it, talk about it, and I
- 37:55get into some more of the details.
- 37:57So come on, back here for some romance.
- 38:00Yes, all you Romantics out there.
