- 0:27Speaker 1: Except I'm not. We normally, we do the movie threat now,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but I'm.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Not at home.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I don't even have my list of movies that I've
- 0:34Speaker 1: seen lately that I've seen out in the world and went,
- 0:38Speaker 1: what the hell is this? And let's see. Technically, I
- 0:43Speaker 1: think I did just come across some things. I think
- 0:46Speaker 1: they were possibly potentially good options, but that'll work in
- 0:50Speaker 1: a pinch.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Hey.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah. We're flying around the world.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Jet set and doing these episodes now.
- 0:55Speaker 5: So let's see.
- 0:56Speaker 1: What have I run across lately that I can threaten
- 0:59Speaker 1: us with?
- 1:01Speaker 4: Let's see.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Because I specifically, there were ones that I wasn't that
- 1:06Speaker 1: familiar with, which is always weird to me. It's like,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of dumb movies and even the
- 1:11Speaker 1: ones I haven't seen, I know of them. But then
- 1:14Speaker 1: I come across other ones. I'm like, have I seen
- 1:16Speaker 1: this video box before? Is this a thing I know of? So,
- 1:21Speaker 1: let's see. The Stay Awake. The Stay Awake.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I ran across a VHS copy of The Stay Awake.
- 1:31Speaker 1: There's the words.
- 1:33Speaker 2: It does say The Stay Awake.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Does that look familiar, though? I've seen a million video boxes.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I don't remember seeing it. That's why I was like, wait, what? No,
- 1:40Speaker 1: I just meant the big letters.
- 1:41Speaker 5: The hell is The Stay Awake?
- 1:43Speaker 2: It does not look like an extremely original thing.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Piece of artwork let's see according to this an executed
- 1:52Speaker 5: murderer is reincarnated as a satanic demon sworn to all
- 1:57Speaker 5: right we're.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Already in right yeah yeah all right so there you
- 2:00Speaker 1: go i'm.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Getting a different description if.
- 2:03Speaker 1: You come up with a better option we can watch
- 2:06Speaker 1: something else but uh norah's back look the stay awake
- 2:11Speaker 1: have you ever heard of such a.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Thing the stay awake Is.
- 2:14Speaker 2: That different than like a sleepover?
- 2:18Speaker 1: Sleepover!
- 2:20Speaker 2: The synopsis I'm getting is the ghost of a serial
- 2:23Speaker 2: killer executed for murdering students at a Catholic girls' school
- 2:27Speaker 2: returns to the school to take revenge on the current
- 2:30Speaker 2: student body.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Alright, I don't know if that's a threat. We kind
- 2:33Speaker 1: of want to watch that. So that's an even... That's
- 2:35Speaker 1: kind of similar to this movie. That's a different way
- 2:38Speaker 1: to go about it. If you want us to watch that, hey,
- 2:42Speaker 1: join the Meltdown Horror Club and then give us that movie.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Because we'd also kind of like to watch it. It
- 2:47Speaker 1: might fall apart and blow up in our faces. But,
- 2:49Speaker 1: you know, right now it's sounding pretty good.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Found a third description.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Students at St. Mary's School for Girls find their fundraising
- 2:56Speaker 2: stunt jeopardized by the appearance of a demon.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Wait, it's a fundraiser? Never mind, then.
- 3:03Speaker 3: That's important.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So, if you give us something better to watch, then
- 3:09Speaker 1: we won't have to have weird comments like we had
- 3:11Speaker 1: on this episode.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It's Stay Awake based on a true story. It went away.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Where'd it go?
- 3:17Speaker 3: The true story of the ghost of the serial killer
- 3:21Speaker 3: returns with a Catholic Girls School fundraiser.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Maybe this is a different thing. Oh, that's stay awake,
- 3:30Speaker 2: not these days.
- 3:33Speaker 1: But, yep, otherwise we'll say a lot of crazy things
- 3:35Speaker 1: like we did this previous time.
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm currently laying horizontal on my couch while Brian and
- 3:44Speaker 3: Phillip sit near me like the family members of an
- 3:48Speaker 3: infirm elderly person.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And here's the best part. That sounds dreadful. Here's the
- 3:55Speaker 1: best part. I don't know that it does anything, but
- 3:59Speaker 1: I'm compelled to put it on anyway sometimes. I think
- 4:03Speaker 1: it's just a little masochistic thing, really. I'm just like, well,
- 4:06Speaker 1: this is gonna hurt. So that's something. It's science, really.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I don't think the deity's doing anything up there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I love that you pointed to the cat when you
- 4:16Speaker 2: said science.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I know, I was like, science cat.
- 4:17Speaker 2: When everyone knows that that's witchcraft. I'll take it anyway.
- 4:23Speaker 1: At some point, maybe I'll go for Grunkle, but, you know.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love to be a Grunkle.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Grunkle's pretty awesome too.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And it was fucking scary. It was really creepy. It
- 4:36Speaker 3: was about a woman who, it's done in found footage,
- 4:40Speaker 3: but like current and then like six years ago. So
- 4:44Speaker 3: six years ago, she was part of like a kind
- 4:47Speaker 3: of a ghost hunting team with her boyfriend.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Which is what you're shooting for. Yeah. I'm assuming.
- 4:53Speaker 3: And then they disrupted some secret cult ritual.
- 4:59Speaker 1: But that's definitely an interesting performance. And one he's kind
- 5:03Speaker 1: of just settled into now. Because he started off as
- 5:07Speaker 1: a dorky kid in every role. And then he sort
- 5:10Speaker 1: of graduated up into awkward, not really a leading man,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but kind of like a half of a leading man.
- 5:16Speaker 1: And now he's just become kind of a creepy bastard.
- 5:19Speaker 1: But still presented in this very... Look, all shucks, I'm
- 5:23Speaker 1: a likable guy, except I'm kind of not like most
- 5:28Speaker 1: horrible guys.
- 5:29Speaker 2: He's one of your likable smarmy guys. Yeah.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Knowing that he's like one of the creepiest bastards in
- 5:35Speaker 1: horror movies as of recent years, it's like, yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 4: They're kind of playing with that and using that against
- 5:41Speaker 4: you as the audience member, and I appreciate that.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I think that's pretty cool.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Oh, it's so good.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 3: I'm like, who is their licensing board? Who are overseeing agencies?
- 5:55Speaker 1: That's the other thing is re-watching it because I'm watching
- 5:58Speaker 1: it going, I remember having these nitpicky thoughts last time
- 6:01Speaker 1: I watched it and I feel like, did we already
- 6:04Speaker 1: do this? Because I was like, I had a lot
- 6:07Speaker 1: of thoughts last time and I'm still having them watching
- 6:09Speaker 1: it this time. No.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I feel like it was trying to make some kind
- 6:15Speaker 3: of social commentary on the whole deinstitutionalization.
- 6:18Speaker 2: In the 80s. I think it was because this was
- 6:20Speaker 2: going on during the Reagan administration where they were just
- 6:24Speaker 2: shutting down mental hospitals and throwing people out on the street.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't know how hospital administration, when it comes to
- 6:33Speaker 2: checking in and checking out patients, works. I don't know.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I don't do that for a living.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I'm not qualified to do that for a living. Would
- 6:39Speaker 1: you like to?
- 6:40Speaker 2: And I'm pretty sure that weird creepy pervy orderly isn't either.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But in the beginning they kept selling him as the
- 6:48Speaker 1: creepy bastard because they would just turn around and look
- 6:50Speaker 1: at him and he would just laugh to himself like
- 6:53Speaker 1: an evil overlord.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Well, the way he just stared at her through the window.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I was like, they were selling him as the real
- 7:01Speaker 1: creep at the beginning and then we got to the
- 7:03Speaker 1: other guy and we're like, oh no, this guy, I
- 7:05Speaker 1: think he wins. So it was. We weren't just speculating. Obviously,
- 7:11Speaker 1: that's what you guys wrote. And then it fell apart
- 7:14Speaker 1: and you just didn't bother to readjust your trailer voiceover?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Maybe they just recorded the audio for that before they
- 7:21Speaker 2: even sent it.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Maybe so. I don't know.
- 7:23Speaker 2: They're like, we spent $ 400 on that, guys. We gotta
- 7:27Speaker 2: use it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But I mean, you know, they were gonna do it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So they were asking for it.
- 7:32Speaker 2: Yeah, they told me to come in.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Boobs. So you're getting ready to get it on. And
- 7:38Speaker 1: you both kind of know that. You're a couple. You
- 7:41Speaker 1: know what's about to go down. So you change your shirt.
- 7:45Speaker 2: You change your t-shirt into another t-shirt.
- 7:49Speaker 1: If you just took it off in preparation... That would
- 7:52Speaker 1: make sense. Then, okay, go for it.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But it was another t-shirt of equal non-sexiness. Yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Or, you know, it's a fine look she was going for,
- 8:01Speaker 4: but I was just like.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But why put it back on?
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know what you're going to do in just a
- 8:08Speaker 1: minute here. We're all aware of what you're about to do,
- 8:11Speaker 1: so why put a shirt back on? Now, this is
- 8:17Speaker 1: one of the ones I have a reason. Would you
- 8:21Speaker 1: like me to tell you why?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Was it because of the sorority?
- 8:27Speaker 1: It's maybe the most adorable reason for nudity. Because obviously
- 8:31Speaker 1: this was very essential nudity to the plot.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Clearly.
- 8:34Speaker 1: This was essential to the character and the story. They
- 8:40Speaker 1: were really pressed to find girls to take their top
- 8:42Speaker 1: off is what I found out in the behind the scenes.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You didn't? I wouldn't think it would be that hard
- 8:46Speaker 1: in Hollywood at that point in time.
- 8:47Speaker 3: In the early 80s, yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 1: You would think that would be... Nope. It was a
- 8:51Speaker 1: fight from what it seems like. I mean, at least
- 8:54Speaker 1: that guy was old enough to have gotten his license
- 8:57Speaker 1: before he got put away. Unlike Michael, who is like
- 9:00Speaker 1: a child and there's no excuse for him to know
- 9:03Speaker 1: how to drive a car. But he does pretty good, actually.
- 9:06Speaker 2: You know, that reminds me, though, of Halloween because we
- 9:11Speaker 2: are specifically talking about it. But the scene in Halloween...
- 9:14Speaker 2: where Michael Myers is driving down the street, perving out
- 9:17Speaker 2: on all the different kids. Like you do. Yeah, because she,
- 9:22Speaker 2: somebody even says, well, how do you learn how to drive?
- 9:25Speaker 2: And I always just thought for years that, well, maybe
- 9:28Speaker 2: he's just, let's just say he just figured it out.
- 9:31Speaker 2: But he's cruising down the street so smoothly. There's no
- 9:34Speaker 2: like him, like using like the wrong foot on the
- 9:37Speaker 2: brake and like jerking forward.
- 9:40Speaker 1: But that would have been very good. Thank God it
- 9:42Speaker 1: wasn't a stick. Trying to out of nowhere learn how
- 9:47Speaker 1: to drive a stick. 3D effect. So how do you
- 9:54Speaker 1: feel about the 3D? Yeah, then she lied. Didn't know
- 10:00Speaker 1: how to skateboard at all.
- 10:02Speaker 2: That's not college age level skateboarding. That's like four year
- 10:08Speaker 2: old level skateboarding.
- 10:11Speaker 1: You're a girl type person. I'm assuming someone in your
- 10:14Speaker 1: circle is always wearing workout gear. I love this outfit.
- 10:18Speaker 1: At any given moment, she's got some sort of workout
- 10:21Speaker 1: outfit on. Because that's what people do. It's the 80s, man.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Aerobics and shit.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Ad leisure is back in. So there you go. Lululemon
- 10:31Speaker 3: and such.
- 10:33Speaker 2: You know, psychos have snuck into this house to kill
- 10:35Speaker 2: people before.
- 10:36Speaker 1: What are the odds it's going to happen again? Come
- 10:39Speaker 1: on in.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Maybe this isn't the right line of work for you, Mr.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Collins. They were so okay with it, which makes me
- 10:47Speaker 2: think it happens daily.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I know. I'm like, you should tell somebody.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 10:53Speaker 3: What was going on in that ward?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Yeah. The Walking Dead ward?
- 10:59Speaker 3: Why were they in body bags and moving around?
- 11:02Speaker 1: It's Ward L.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Duh.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Different colored tubes of liquid.
- 11:04Speaker 2: How many freaking wards does this hospital have?
- 11:06Speaker 3: I was like, are there 26 wards in here?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Ward L, you've got to have special clearance. They don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: let just anybody wander around.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But apparently they do.
- 11:15Speaker 4: So I guess at this point, we get to the
- 11:20Speaker 4: introduction of the other thing that is maybe the biggest,
- 11:24Speaker 4: wait a minute, what the hell is going on aspect
- 11:28Speaker 4: of this movie?
- 11:29Speaker 1: Which this continues for the entire rest of the movie.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Because it's at that point, more.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Or less, that she.
- 11:36Speaker 4: So you'd think with her, we would.
- 11:38Speaker 1: At least invest a little time.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I think what little development they gave her just completely
- 11:44Speaker 2: tired out the screenwriter. He's like, oh, that's hard work,
- 11:48Speaker 2: you guys. Let's just put chicks' heads in vices and
- 11:51Speaker 2: just call it a day.
- 11:52Speaker 1: How about we just pressure blast one? That'll be fun. Yeah.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Speaking of offenses, let's talk about the sheriff.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:02Speaker 1: What an odd bit of casting. Well, no, because we're
- 12:07Speaker 1: now at another topless scene. So, put a pin in it.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Here we go.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Again, they want to tease him. So, they're going around
- 12:15Speaker 1: to all the girls there going, so, will you take
- 12:18Speaker 1: your job off? And every one of them went, no. So,
- 12:23Speaker 1: every girl in that scene called him no. So, they
- 12:27Speaker 1: needed somebody to make this.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Did they wait until the day of filming to ask
- 12:31Speaker 2: these girls that?
- 12:32Speaker 1: I think so.
- 12:32Speaker 2: They're not.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Oh, no. They probably shot for like a day and
- 12:34Speaker 1: a half. What do you want? So. Once again, way
- 12:38Speaker 1: harder to get random girls to get naked in your
- 12:40Speaker 1: horror movie than you would expect.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And I love how non-essential all of the boob scenes are.
- 12:48Speaker 1: They're very short.
- 12:50Speaker 3: They're not important at all.
- 12:53Speaker 1: And they have to get shot in their naked area
- 12:56Speaker 1: with a nail gun.
- 12:58Speaker 2: This is essential to the plot.
- 13:01Speaker 1: But if you don't want us to say that kind
- 13:02Speaker 1: of nonsense and you want us to say things about
- 13:04Speaker 1: The Stay Awake or Us Stay Awake, or Just Stay Awake,
- 13:08Speaker 1: any of those, just go to MovieMeltdown.com, join the Meltdown
- 13:12Speaker 1: Horror Club, and give us something good to watch.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Or if you hate us, give us something terrible to watch.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Either way, we're going to watch it.
- 13:20Speaker 2: We have nothing else to do.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It seems to be the case. Hey, hey, gotta stay
- 13:27Speaker 1: away As your mind is peeled away But this just
- 13:31Speaker 1: seems to
- 13:32Speaker 3: Find you anyway
