- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun. Here it is Monday, it's the 9th
- 0:15of September and I'm so glad to have your company.
- 0:18Thanks for tapping on play and inviting me in as we begin a new
- 0:21week together. And in this new week, we'll
- 0:24continue reading through the book of Second Corinthians, just
- 0:27where we left off, continuing to hear what Paul has to say and
- 0:31the words that we are going to be sharing.
- 0:33These are from the New Living Translation.
- 0:36And it's been a little while since we changed to the New
- 0:38Living Translation. When I say a little while,
- 0:40what's it been? Probably over a year by now.
- 0:44And I really do enjoy using this translation as it has been put
- 0:48together by biblical scholars from around the world who have
- 0:51poured over the original language texts and done their
- 0:55darndest to work out how do we communicate the intent of what
- 1:00is being said in the original manuscripts using today's
- 1:03English. And so yes, you probably
- 1:05wouldn't use this to pull apart word by word by word to do a
- 1:09detailed exegesic exegetical study.
- 1:13But in terms of listening to these words together in a whole
- 1:18chapter just to hear the flow of God's Word, I don't know if
- 1:22we'll find a better translation. This is just fantastic for
- 1:26exactly what we're doing, reading through God's Word 1
- 1:29chapter at a time. And so that, friends, is what
- 1:32we're going to do today. You ready?
- 1:34Yeah, me too. Holy Spirit, open up our hearts
- 1:38as we hear your words flow through the Airways.
- 1:42May your message ring loud and true as you reveal more of
- 1:46yourself to us today. Well friends, let's do it.
- 1:52Let us continue reading together as we read Second Corinthians
- 1:56chapter 5. For we know that when this
- 2:09earthly tent we live in is taken down, that is when we die and
- 2:13leave this earthly body. We will have a house in heaven,
- 2:17an eternal body made for us by God Himself and not by human
- 2:21hands. We grow weary in our present
- 2:24bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new
- 2:29clothing, for we will put on heavenly bodies.
- 2:33We will not be spirits with our bodies while we live in these
- 2:37earthly bodies. We groan and sigh, but it's not
- 2:41that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us.
- 2:44Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying
- 2:49bodies will be swallowed up by life.
- 2:53God Himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee, He has
- 2:57given us His Holy Spirit. So we are always confident, even
- 3:03though we know that as long as we live in these bodies we are
- 3:06not at home with the Lord, for we live by believing and not by
- 3:11seeing. Yes, we are fully confident and
- 3:15we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then
- 3:19we will be at home with the Lord.
- 3:21So whether we are here in this body or away from this body, our
- 3:26goal is to please Him, for we must all stand before Christ to
- 3:31be judged. We will each receive whatever we
- 3:34deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body
- 3:40because we understand our fearful responsibility to the
- 3:43Lord. We work hard to persuade others.
- 3:47God knows we were sincere, and I hope you know this too.
- 3:51Are we commending ourselves to you again?
- 3:54No, we are giving you a reason to be proud of us so you can
- 3:58answer those who brag about having a spectacular ministry
- 4:02rather than having a sincere heart.
- 4:05If it seems we are crazy, it is to bring glory to God, and if we
- 4:10are in our right minds, it is for your benefit.
- 4:14Either way, Christ's love controls us.
- 4:18Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe
- 4:22that we have all died to our old life.
- 4:25He died for everyone. So those who receive His new
- 4:29life will no longer live for themselves.
- 4:31Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised
- 4:35for them. So we have stopped evaluating
- 4:38others from a human point of view.
- 4:40At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of
- 4:43view. How differently we know him now.
- 4:47This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a
- 4:51new person. The old life is gone and new
- 4:55life has begun. And all of this is a gift from
- 4:59God who brought us back to himself through Christ.
- 5:05And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.
- 5:09For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to
- 5:12himself, no longer counting people's sins against them.
- 5:16And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.
- 5:21So we are Christ's ambassadors. God is making his appeal through
- 5:26us. We speak for Christ when we
- 5:28plead. Come back to God.
- 5:31For God made Christ, who never sinned to be the offering for
- 5:35our sin, so that we could be made right with God through
- 5:40Christ our God. What a generous Father you are
- 5:53for us, that here we are living this life, finding it hard day
- 5:58by day to follow the prompting of the Spirit, but we find
- 6:03ourselves getting drawn back into sin again and again, Lord.
- 6:07And for that we truly are sorry. And here we read that we will be
- 6:12judged for everything that we do while we're living here on earth
- 6:16in these broken earthly bodies, judged by Jesus.
- 6:23But that is good news because it's through Jesus perfect life
- 6:27when he was judged even though he did nothing wrong, but for
- 6:30our benefit. And we stand perfect in the
- 6:34light of what Jesus has done for us so that we can share this
- 6:38incredible news with the world around us, that we are a
- 6:42forgived people because what you have done for us, Father,
- 6:46through Jesus, help us hold on to this incredible message of
- 6:52grace, that it can fill us with optimism and buoyancy, and that
- 6:57we can share that which is our mission that you have given us.
- 7:01Empower us for this mission with boldness, with kindness, and
- 7:08with grace. And we ask all of this through
- 7:11the saving name of Jesus. Amen.
