- 0:03If you are a B2B service based business owner and you are
- 0:06looking to gain more clients, create more impact and more
- 0:09revenue in your business, TuneIn to amplify your marketing
- 0:13message with Christine Campbell Rappin.
- 0:15Every week we're going to take you through how to build an
- 0:17audience of buyers, mastering your marketing message and
- 0:20making offers. One of the biggest things that
- 0:24people choose to spend time podcast guesting for is a belief
- 0:30that it will create leads and those leads will become paid
- 0:35clients. You think the answer is in the
- 0:39audience, the listeners of the show.
- 0:44And while that may happen, it's really, really hard to control.
- 0:51And so I want to shift your perspective and show you the
- 0:54faster way to find clients with podcast guesting, it is through
- 0:59creating referrals with the host.
- 1:02I am Christine Campbell Rappin, and I have interviewed hundreds
- 1:07of guests on multiple platforms over the years.
- 1:10And podcasting can be a great source of lead generation.
- 1:15But truthfully, most guests are missing golden opportunities for
- 1:20fast, warm introductions and getting clients in the next 90
- 1:25days. So let me break it down.
- 1:28What can make you exceptional as a podcast guest?
- 1:34So when it comes to introductions and finding ideal
- 1:40leads for you, warm introductions have a faster
- 1:45track and a higher conversion rate than every source of cold
- 1:50traffic out there. And so I want you to be thinking
- 1:54about where you're playing, how you're playing, and how to
- 1:59leverage your guesting better. It all starts down to the host
- 2:06and choosing the right shows that are appropriate for buying
- 2:11behavior. So many people think the goal is
- 2:15just be on a podcast and get airtime.
- 2:18But my friends, if you are in the wrong room, in the wrong
- 2:22audience, with the wrong message that does not tie to a program
- 2:27or service that people will pay you for, you are colossally
- 2:30wasting your time. Stop it.
- 2:35Instead, I want you to think about your business need.
- 2:40What are your programs and services and who is your next
- 2:43buyer? You could use the word shopper,
- 2:47client or customer. For me, I always talk in terms
- 2:51of the buyer. The buyer audience profile is
- 2:55what you need to be gauging when you research which shows you
- 2:59want to be on, because you want to be in the room of buyers is
- 3:04the best path to getting your next client in your ecosystem.
- 3:08So do the research about the show.
- 3:11Talk to show producers and ask them who are they targeting and
- 3:16make sure there's a very strong overlap.
- 3:19And I also recommend picking shows where the hosts programs
- 3:23and services and offers are in sequence of your delivery, that
- 3:28if the two of you come together, you get better results for the
- 3:32buyer, shopper or the customer. Because when that happens,
- 3:35that's magic. That's exactly what we do with
- 3:38our show. My show is designed
- 3:40intentionally to be a referral engine, not to be a lead
- 3:44generator directly. And it's working spectacularly.
- 3:50So you do your research, and when you're researching the
- 3:53show, you are starting to engage with the host.
- 3:57That means listening to episodes, commenting on the
- 4:00episodes, taking Nuggets from the episodes, and putting that
- 4:04public on social media. It means reviewing the show and
- 4:08connecting on social media platforms, not just with the
- 4:12show, but with the host as an individual.
- 4:15Because my friends remember people do business with people
- 4:18even in the world of a lot of technology and especially in the
- 4:22world of AI. They have a personal
- 4:25conversation that can add so much value to your bottom line.
- 4:30So you're building the relationship with the show and
- 4:33you understand the audience. It's an overlap with who your
- 4:37buyers are and you start to engage with the host and say, I
- 4:42believe I have several ideas that could be of value to your
- 4:46show. Would you be interested in the
- 4:47conversation around that? That is the basic details for
- 4:54your application. And I will tell you this please,
- 4:58if you want clients, don't outsource this relationship
- 5:02building to an agency. 99% of agency pitches get tossed on our
- 5:08platform because the people who are pitching are pitching a
- 5:13concept, a topic. But I don't care so much about
- 5:17the topic. I care about the relationship
- 5:19referral of the guest themselves, and if the guest
- 5:23won't engage with me, won't directly support me, I am not
- 5:27interested in you as a guest on my show.
- 5:31So put together a very crafted, tailored pit to support the
- 5:37individual who is hosting the show so that they can look good
- 5:40in front of their audience, so that they can add value to their
- 5:44audience and so that they can add value to their network.
- 5:47Because the only reason a host has a show is to add value to
- 5:52their network value to their clients and to be of service to
- 5:57the next client for them. Interesting, right.
- 6:03So you've done some research, you're targeted with your
- 6:06approach and that I want you to show up professional.
- 6:12And I am gobsmacked that I have to state that.
- 6:16But you need to be prepared to put your best foot forward in
- 6:20front of somebody who could open their Rolodex.
- 6:23Yes, I'm dating myself to their network, their personal
- 6:27professional network and their audience, all of which they have
- 6:30a very strong gatekeeping natural instinct to protect.
- 6:34That means if I have told you for our show that it's video and
- 6:38you need to show up looking with great lighting, great sound in a
- 6:41professional environment, do not show up in your jammies at night
- 6:44at 3:00 in the morning and say, oh, is that what we're doing?
- 6:47And trust me, the reason I'm still stating this, I'm
- 6:50gobsmacked. It needs to be said, show up
- 6:54professionally if you expect people to pay you and you will
- 6:58see exponential dividends and you can really stand out from a
- 7:02crowd. So you show up professional and
- 7:05you ask the host these beautiful questions.
- 7:08We're here to talk about this. How best can I be of service to
- 7:12you and to your audience, in that order, and then deliver,
- 7:19Deliver what you promised. And after you've completed the
- 7:22recording. It doesn't stop there.
- 7:26You should be posting on social media that you were interviewing
- 7:29on that podcast. You should be tagging
- 7:32professionally the podcast and the human host across your
- 7:38social media platforms. When the release date comes out.
- 7:41You want to be a great promoter of the episode.
- 7:44And here is the golden bonus point to building a great person
- 7:48who's going to advocate for you, the host, is that podcasting is
- 7:52a long tail strategy. You should be picking topics
- 7:56that have a good long shelf life and that you want to be
- 8:00associated with for years because search engines will pull
- 8:05this content, especially if it's a video content for a long
- 8:09period of time. I have a great personal story
- 8:12about that. My show has been around for
- 8:14years and we have been putting video and audio content out
- 8:18since day one. A friend of mine halfway around
- 8:22the world feeling a question around building reciprocity and
- 8:26building trust with your next buyer in her business and she
- 8:30googled ChatGPT or shouldn't Google.
- 8:32She entered ChatGPT and ChatGPT showed my podcast in episode
- 8:37recommendation #5 that long tail.
- 8:41I have no idea when I recorded it two years earlier that it
- 8:44would be in ChatGPT cause Chat GT was not a thing when I
- 8:47recorded it and yet it was tailored, specific, valued and
- 8:52was given as a resource when her query was entered.
- 8:57It's awesome that human connection to the host, which
- 9:02was me, helped her land her first client in a new geography.
- 9:06So if you want clients think this through long tail be of
- 9:11service be of value. So if your bonus point
- 9:15listening, don't forget that that podcast has great value
- 9:19well after the original air date.
- 9:21Going back and having my past coasts or my past guests go in
- 9:27and reshare episodes down the road is a beautiful way to
- 9:31distinguish yourself. So let's just recap where we
- 9:35are. If you want to build clients out
- 9:38of podcast guesting, it is not the abstract 50,000 feet
- 9:42listener that can be the next client.
- 9:46It happens, but it's rare. It is actually the direct
- 9:51relationship with the host that can add a faster path.
- 9:54Because that host, if you do a great job nurturing the
- 9:58relationship, being committed to the relationship long term,
- 10:01because you guys are strategic partners, because you share the
- 10:04same audience of buyers or you're in sequence of the buyer
- 10:08to get better results. You don't need to be on
- 10:10thousands of shows to see big ripples.
- 10:14You can be on a dozen shows and see massive momentum because
- 10:19truly the host is the key to it all.
- 10:25Nurture the relationship with the host before show up.
- 10:28Professional say to the host when you have wrapped the
- 10:32episode. First off, thank you for the
- 10:35gift of sharing me with your audience.
- 10:39How can I be of service to you? How could it be of service,
- 10:44particularly for your individual business that's most important
- 10:48to the host? How can I be of service to your
- 10:51show beyond being a great guest promoter?
- 10:55How can I introduce potential other guests to you?
- 10:59And are you as a host looking for other stages?
- 11:02Because I, as a guest, have been on many platforms, maybe I can
- 11:06introduce you to hosts. That level of care, that level
- 11:12of human to human support has huge ripples, huge ripples.
- 11:19And I will tell you from having recorded 300 episodes plus so
- 11:22far in multiple shows, there's probably 5 guests that have
- 11:28taken the time to do this. Podcasting is not a hit and run
- 11:32exercise. It is not the fastest path to
- 11:35cash from an audience member perspective, but it can be a
- 11:41very direct path to cash when you build relationship and you
- 11:46build reciprocity and you build faith, trust and confidence with
- 11:51the hosts. The hosts are where it's at, my
- 11:55friends. So let me conclude and just wrap
- 11:59this up. Podcast guesting is incredible.
- 12:04If you are not prepared to build the relationships, human to
- 12:08human, with the host, this should not be your number one
- 12:10strategy or even in your top three, because outsourcing this
- 12:15to an agency loses all momentum. In the world where people do
- 12:20business with people, people powered referrals are the
- 12:25fastest path to cash. And one final note, if you do
- 12:32find amazing leads that come from your host network through
- 12:37their listener and or through their personal or professional
- 12:42network, say thank you, Celebrate that.
- 12:47Let the host know and personally, I always put cash in
- 12:53their pocket as a show of appreciation.
- 12:57My friends, I look forward to seeing you around the world of
- 12:59podcasting. Come out, be a great guest, get
- 13:02those referrals, and please stop treating podcast guesting as a
- 13:07hit and run. Build rich relationships with
- 13:11the hosts and you will have fast path to cash.
