- 0:00Speaker 1: Live from the State Capitol.
- 0:02Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you hear that in the top of the hour
- 0:09Speaker 3: news break that today is the big day at least
- 0:12Speaker 3: up at the National Cathedral. They'll be having the ceremony
- 0:15Speaker 3: for Lindsey Graham there. Christopher Thompson, good morning to.
- 0:18Speaker 4: You, sir.
- 0:19Speaker 5: Morning Kelly.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I imagine it'll be an emotional day for a lot
- 0:22Speaker 3: of South Carolinians. The President is expected to speak down there,
- 0:27Speaker 3: and they're going to have a some sort of video
- 0:29Speaker 3: tribute to Lindsey Graham.
- 0:31Speaker 4: It's going to be a very emotional day.
- 0:32Speaker 5: No doubt about it. Sean Hannity also speaking.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I didn't hear that.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, Hannity got the call. Yeah. So I'm wondering
- 0:41Speaker 5: if that will be a part of Sean's show this afternoon.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Probably, I would have to imagine, So, I mean think
- 0:48Speaker 3: so if the ceremony goes off at two o'clock at
- 0:52Speaker 3: the National Cathedral, I don't know how long it's going
- 0:54Speaker 3: to roll. But Hannity goes live if I'm not mistaken,
- 0:58Speaker 3: three to.
- 0:59Speaker 5: Six so on Fox News on TV that night. So yeah,
- 1:05Speaker 5: I'm sure between the two we'll get a healthy dose
- 1:08Speaker 5: of his tribute to Lindsey Graham.
- 1:10Speaker 3: So yeah, so if you're not able to, I'm assuming
- 1:12Speaker 3: Fox will carry a lot of this live today at
- 1:14Speaker 3: two o'clock. I would assume maybe not go wall to
- 1:18Speaker 3: wall coverage, but there'll be a bunch of cut ins,
- 1:20Speaker 3: I'm assuming from the National Cathedral. But then tomorrow he
- 1:24Speaker 3: comes to Columbia and I was seeing some of the
- 1:28Speaker 3: security measures that they're putting in place downtown getting ready
- 1:31Speaker 3: for that, as they're expecting some rather large crowds to
- 1:36Speaker 3: You're not going to be able to get into the church,
- 1:38Speaker 3: but you'll be able to see the procession as it moves.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Kelly, I got a call from someone, a member of
- 1:44Speaker 5: that church by the way, last week who said they're
- 1:48Speaker 5: pairing a sinkhole in front of the church, and apparently
- 1:53Speaker 5: there's some ways around that. I guess the best way
- 1:55Speaker 5: is to park in that parking garage that's adjacent to
- 1:58Speaker 5: First Baptist Church and go in that way. But yeah,
- 2:00Speaker 5: there may be some hurdles, additional hurdles if you're getting
- 2:04Speaker 5: into the church just to walk in the front door.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Wow, I had not heard about that. Yeah, so well,
- 2:10Speaker 3: thank you for that update. Christopher Thompson, very valuable. That
- 2:13Speaker 3: is the news you can use if you plan on
- 2:14Speaker 3: trying to attend the service tomorrow here in Columbia for
- 2:18Speaker 3: Lindsey Graham. And then it's going to be a busy
- 2:20Speaker 3: day because I if I'm remembering right, and you might
- 2:23Speaker 3: have it in front of you, that's going to start
- 2:25Speaker 3: I think around ten forty five ish or something, is
- 2:28Speaker 3: what I read, and then they're going to have a
- 2:30Speaker 3: afternoon service. They described it as up in Pickens County
- 2:34Speaker 3: and that's basically for family and friends only, right, But
- 2:38Speaker 3: that I mean, that's just to go from Columbia to
- 2:40Speaker 3: Pickens County. That's a couple of hours. And you know,
- 2:43Speaker 3: you got all this going on in the interim, so
- 2:45Speaker 3: there's going to be some exhausted members of the Graham
- 2:48Speaker 3: team and family tomorrow. Today is not going to be
- 2:52Speaker 3: easy on them either, so.
- 2:55Speaker 5: You know, and by the way, they're in the middle
- 2:57Speaker 5: of a campaign, and.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I was going to just pivot to that. Dar Graham
- 3:01Speaker 3: is asking for grace and a little more time to
- 3:05Speaker 3: discuss the issues of what's coming up in this campaign.
- 3:08Speaker 3: And again, early voting starts like next.
- 3:12Speaker 5: Week, right, that's right, next Wednesday, so.
- 3:14Speaker 3: We don't have a lot of time unfortunately, and there's
- 3:17Speaker 3: a big fast turnaround going on now. Yesterday I spoke
- 3:20Speaker 3: with Mark Sandford. We're going to play parts of that
- 3:22Speaker 3: coming up a little bit. Also, we're getting ready for
- 3:25Speaker 3: what are they calling it again, the Senate stumps. Yes,
- 3:28Speaker 3: and our first one will be in Columbia this well,
- 3:31Speaker 3: actually at Lexington this weekend Saturday, and then I think
- 3:36Speaker 3: August sixth is the next one that's in Charleston, So
- 3:39Speaker 3: we'll be talking a little bit more about that. But
- 3:41Speaker 3: there's a lot to get to this morning, and if
- 3:44Speaker 3: you've got thoughts that you want to get on the
- 3:46Speaker 3: air whatever, we'd love for you to use the talkback feature.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Maybe some stuff that we haven't gotten to in the
- 3:51Speaker 3: past couple of days that you think, Hey, you guys
- 3:53Speaker 3: need to be talking about this. Let us know if
- 3:55Speaker 3: we're missing something. Use the talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Just a reminder, we're still off the ear assuming until
- 4:01Speaker 3: further notice. On the AM.
- 4:02Speaker 5: The cleanup continues. The restoration continues where the fires were
- 4:06Speaker 5: at the WVOCAM transmitter. This is in Colombia. Yes, the
- 4:11Speaker 5: FM signal still works. The iHeartRadio app still works, but
- 4:15Speaker 5: we are working hard to get that AM transmitter back
- 4:17Speaker 5: up and operate.
- 4:18Speaker 3: So if you hear somebody saying that we're off the air,
- 4:20Speaker 3: it's just on the AM signal.
- 4:22Speaker 5: And just in Columbia.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Just in Colombia, we're still rocking strong down on FM
- 4:27Speaker 3: ninety four point three WSC Charleston and FM one O
- 4:30Speaker 3: three point five FM in Columbia WVOC. This is South
- 4:33Speaker 3: Carolina's Morning News.
- 4:35Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash and.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Good Morning six twelve. Yesterday spoke with our Attorney General,
- 4:43Speaker 3: Alan Wilson, who is going to be hosting these Senate
- 4:47Speaker 3: stumps is what they're calling them, and started with the question,
- 4:51Speaker 3: why are you hosting these Senate forums?
- 4:53Speaker 6: I am trying to do everything that I can to
- 4:55Speaker 6: provide venues and forums for the voters to be able
- 4:58Speaker 6: to learn about all of these new candidates for the
- 5:00Speaker 6: US Senate so they can make an informed decision on
- 5:02Speaker 6: one of those two election days. I'm going to need
- 5:05Speaker 6: a strong partner to run with in November.
- 5:08Speaker 3: This is South Carolina's Morning News. So we are in
- 5:10Speaker 3: Columbia and we are in Charleston. We got two area
- 5:13Speaker 3: locations for the listeners, and we got one this Saturday
- 5:16Speaker 3: for people in the Columbia area.
- 5:18Speaker 6: That's right Saturday, August the first, that's this coming Saturday.
- 5:22Speaker 6: We'll be in Lexington County at Riverbluff High School at
- 5:25Speaker 6: eleven thirty am. We have a handful of these candidates
- 5:28Speaker 6: already confirmed. We're still waiting on confirmations from some of
- 5:30Speaker 6: the others. But I will be hosting a form where
- 5:33Speaker 6: you will be able to get to hear from some
- 5:35Speaker 6: of these candidates and what their plans are if they're
- 5:37Speaker 6: elected to the US Senate. And the second date will
- 5:39Speaker 6: be August the six, so it'll be down in Charleston
- 5:42Speaker 6: at the Rifle Club and that is from six to
- 5:45Speaker 6: seven thirty at the Rifle Club in Charleston on August six.
- 5:48Speaker 3: And I see on the Facebook page from the South
- 5:51Speaker 3: Carolina GOP that they're asking people RSVP by emailing team
- 5:56Speaker 3: at segop dot com. So again, OURSVP by emailing team
- 6:02Speaker 3: at scgop dot com. I don't know how this even
- 6:05Speaker 3: started with you, but years ago you started this thing
- 6:08Speaker 3: where you were basically having one on one conversations with
- 6:12Speaker 3: presidential candidates when they were running in the primaries in
- 6:15Speaker 3: South Carolina, and you did a fantastic job with that.
- 6:18Speaker 3: This is going to be a little bit different though,
- 6:19Speaker 3: because it's not one on one. It's like controlled chaos.
- 6:22Speaker 6: These will not be debates. I'm not going to have
- 6:24Speaker 6: everyone up there on stage. There will be sanctioned debates
- 6:27Speaker 6: for the US Senate. These are going to be basically
- 6:31Speaker 6: opportunities for me to ask questions on behalf of the crowd.
- 6:35Speaker 6: And obviously we will take questions from the crowd.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Is this like a Phil Donahue thing where you're going
- 6:39Speaker 3: to be reaching out with the microphone or.
- 6:41Speaker 6: We will probably take questions that I will ask. I
- 6:44Speaker 6: will be the one facilitating the questions. We won't be
- 6:48Speaker 6: having the pill Donahue or the Herado Rivera where you
- 6:52Speaker 6: get into a shouting match or someone gets up there
- 6:54Speaker 6: and filibuster is a question because we want to move
- 6:57Speaker 6: when we have each of these candidates for such a
- 6:59Speaker 6: short period of time, and you know in the past
- 7:01Speaker 6: or a people that get up there and they talk
- 7:02Speaker 6: for five minutes and somewhere buried in there is a question.
- 7:06Speaker 6: We need to be able to give people the questions
- 7:08Speaker 6: quickly and give as much time as possible to the candidates.
- 7:12Speaker 6: And so my intent will be to have a conversation
- 7:15Speaker 6: that will allow you to hear from the candidate for
- 7:16Speaker 6: the Senate more than the person asking the question.
- 7:19Speaker 3: The first one, again, is this Saturday. Like you said, Allan,
- 7:22Speaker 3: this thing is moving very quickly. So Saturday morning at
- 7:25Speaker 3: eleven thirty, you're going to get a bunch of candidates
- 7:28Speaker 3: at the River Bluff High School. And again you should
- 7:31Speaker 3: respond by sending an RSVP to team at scg op
- 7:35Speaker 3: dot com. And then you're going to have another one
- 7:37Speaker 3: in Charleston.
- 7:38Speaker 4: When is that again?
- 7:39Speaker 6: That is August six, from six to seven thirty at
- 7:42Speaker 6: the Rifle Club, all.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Right, And again, if you want to go to the
- 7:46Speaker 3: one in Charleston, you want to email Team T E
- 7:50Speaker 3: A M at scg op dot com. So, uh, hopefully
- 7:54Speaker 3: you get an opportunity to see some of these people
- 7:57Speaker 3: up close and personal. And uh, you know, at this
- 8:00Speaker 3: point they don't even know exactly who's coming to these events.
- 8:03Speaker 3: But Christopher Thompson, it is a very tight window.
- 8:08Speaker 5: And Kelly, there is still a filing you can file
- 8:11Speaker 5: right up until what today, I believe, Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Is it five o'clock, noone noon noon today, So we're
- 8:17Speaker 3: on the clock. We have less than six hours and
- 8:20Speaker 3: then we will finally know for sure who's in. Nobody
- 8:22Speaker 3: filed yesterday, as far as I know.
- 8:24Speaker 5: I don't think so, but I wouldn't expect anyone else
- 8:27Speaker 5: to file. I would think the field is pretty crowded
- 8:30Speaker 5: as it is.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I saw Mark Sandford filed I think yesterday, yes And
- 8:35Speaker 3: when he was filing, you know, there's video, there's the
- 8:40Speaker 3: local media is waiting for these people to come off
- 8:42Speaker 3: the elevators, and then they walk into the office and
- 8:45Speaker 3: one of the fellas who got off the elevator with
- 8:48Speaker 3: him is what is it from the posting courier, Nick Reynolds,
- 8:52Speaker 3: and and so some of the local reporters were having
- 8:55Speaker 3: fun with that, and Nick pointed out that he had
- 8:59Speaker 3: gotten there late and ended up just inadvertently in the
- 9:03Speaker 3: elevator holding the door for Mark Sandford to get it.
- 9:05Speaker 3: He was like, you know, hey, what am I going
- 9:07Speaker 3: to do? He shut the door in his face.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Of course not so get the scoop on the ride
- 9:12Speaker 5: down or right up maybe so maybe.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Good for you, Nick. Anyway, we'll have more on that.
- 9:17Speaker 3: And of course I did have a conversation with Mark
- 9:21Speaker 3: Sanford yesterday that we'll play that a little bit later
- 9:23Speaker 3: on in the broadcast. But anything you want to say
- 9:25Speaker 3: about any of the stories we're talking about, you can
- 9:28Speaker 3: use the talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app. Thanks for
- 9:31Speaker 3: starting your morning with South Carolina's Morning News.
- 9:33Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Wow, it is getting very ugly on the Democrat side
- 9:42Speaker 3: of things. If you look at Wow, I can't believe
- 9:49Speaker 3: they got him saying this because he's literally paraphrasing Lennon.
- 9:53Speaker 3: I'm talking about the Abdul l said, who's the Michigan
- 9:58Speaker 3: front runner right now for the Democrat ticket to be
- 10:02Speaker 3: the next senator from the state of Michigan. Talking about
- 10:05Speaker 3: John Fetterman on a conference call, he said, quote, I
- 10:10Speaker 3: have no problem getting people to primary losers like Fetterman,
- 10:14Speaker 3: no problem at all. Ideally, you just need to put
- 10:17Speaker 3: one ogre on a pike and everyone else will get
- 10:20Speaker 3: the message. All of a sudden, everyone will start sounding
- 10:23Speaker 3: a lot different in this party. That's what Wow. Yeah, exactly,
- 10:28Speaker 3: put one ogre on a pike. Now, last night over
- 10:31Speaker 3: on CNN, Abby Phillips was having a discussion. This is
- 10:35Speaker 3: almost the exact same discussion about how the DSA is
- 10:37Speaker 3: becoming a problem.
- 10:38Speaker 7: Ninety nine days from the big terms, Democrats are facing
- 10:41Speaker 7: a reckoning disavow and disown the Democratic Socialists of America
- 10:45Speaker 7: or embrace policy positions like these endorsed by the DSA's
- 10:50Speaker 7: co chair.
- 10:50Speaker 8: Abolish the Senates, true, okay, replace the Presidency and Supreme
- 10:54Speaker 8: Court as we now know them. Abolish borders and give
- 10:57Speaker 8: amnesty to anyone currently in the US illegally as a
- 11:00Speaker 8: long term plan.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Yep.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Defund the Pentagon.
- 11:03Speaker 8: Absolutely, Abolish prisons at least in large part.
- 11:06Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:06Speaker 8: Again, as part of a long term program. Yeah, okay,
- 11:09Speaker 8: So no prisons, government or public ownership of most large corporations.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 11:15Speaker 10: You know what was really interesting is that, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 10: this is a person that has their own views, their
- 11:18Speaker 10: own platform, and you know, I think everybody has their
- 11:20Speaker 10: own positions, but I find it really interesting that Conservatives
- 11:23Speaker 10: actually want to try to go and talk about this
- 11:25Speaker 10: when they literally had Project twenty twenty five. Oh, in
- 11:28Speaker 10: the last election, Project twenty twenty five, which was uniquely
- 11:32Speaker 10: calling for the cutting of the Civil Rights Act, the
- 11:34Speaker 10: Voting Rights Act, and many different things. What I know
- 11:37Speaker 10: is that the Democratic Party is a big tent Party.
- 11:39Speaker 10: We've got folks like Joe Manchin, folks like zoraon Mam Donnie,
- 11:42Speaker 10: and you would have.
- 11:42Speaker 7: To acknowledge and Democrats ran against Republicans on Project Project
- 11:46Speaker 7: twenty twenty five. It's your acknowledging. It's going to be
- 11:49Speaker 7: a problem.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:49Speaker 10: I mean, look, I don't support those things, but the
- 11:52Speaker 10: point is is that we need to talk about the
- 11:54Speaker 10: things that people in elected office are doing.
- 11:56Speaker 3: All Right. That guy, by the way, I don't even
- 11:58Speaker 3: know who he is, Isaiah Mark, who is that dude?
- 12:02Speaker 5: I don't support those things, but we need to talk
- 12:05Speaker 5: about them.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we're a big ten party.
- 12:07Speaker 3: By the way, when he said that the Project twenty
- 12:09Speaker 3: twenty five called for the gutting of the Voting Rights Act,
- 12:12Speaker 3: that's demonstrably false. But you know, if it had, Republicans
- 12:17Speaker 3: would be against it. You know, I'm trying to think
- 12:21Speaker 3: of somebody hijacking a party and then you not disavowing
- 12:26Speaker 3: them and saying that we're a big ten party. For example,
- 12:29Speaker 3: when I was doing my podcast this morning, I was thinking, Christopher,
- 12:33Speaker 3: you know what if there was a wing of the
- 12:35Speaker 3: Republican Party that started calling themselves the originalists, we want
- 12:40Speaker 3: the party to be like the country was in seventeen
- 12:43Speaker 3: seventy six, meaning only white men can vote, only white men,
- 12:48Speaker 3: property owners can vote, no women allowed to vote. Blacks
- 12:52Speaker 3: obviously back in enslavement. If there was somebody calling for
- 12:56Speaker 3: some sort of movement like that in the inside the
- 12:59Speaker 3: Republican Party, I am very confident that we would say
- 13:02Speaker 3: get the hell out of here, I would hope. So
- 13:05Speaker 3: when you hear what the Democrat Socialists she just and
- 13:08Speaker 3: again she's not some lady with a platform, she's not
- 13:10Speaker 3: a podcaster. She is the co chair of the Democrat
- 13:14Speaker 3: Socialists of America. She when you say I am a
- 13:17Speaker 3: DSA member like AOC says that's what she believes. When
- 13:22Speaker 3: you hear what abdul l Sayid said, this is what
- 13:25Speaker 3: they believe. The ending of the borders of the United
- 13:30Speaker 3: States of America. Of course anyone living here illegally would
- 13:32Speaker 3: now be. You can't kick him out. There's nothing to
- 13:34Speaker 3: kick him out of. There's no more borders. You want
- 13:37Speaker 3: to quote unquote defund the Pentagon, you have no more military.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So I guess we're just expecting the largesse of China
- 13:45Speaker 3: and Russia and everybody to be very kind to us
- 13:47Speaker 3: moving forward. You would think that even a Democrat would say, well,
- 13:51Speaker 3: I want to fight for the Ukraine. I want the
- 13:53Speaker 3: military to do that. But not according to the Democrat socialists.
- 13:57Speaker 3: When you hear them say we want to get rid
- 13:59Speaker 3: of prisons, I mean, this is the not just the
- 14:04Speaker 3: fundamental changing of America, this is the erasure of America.
- 14:08Speaker 3: That's what the DSA is calling for and for. If
- 14:11Speaker 3: you're a Democrat and you're not beyond outraged and saying
- 14:15Speaker 3: they're hijacking our party, we got to kick him out.
- 14:16Speaker 3: We can't even let him in our primaries, that's what
- 14:19Speaker 3: you should be saying. But instead this guy says, no, no,
- 14:21Speaker 3: we're the big ten part and he pointed out we
- 14:23Speaker 3: have people like Joe Manchin and Zorhan. Mom, Donnie, you
- 14:26Speaker 3: don't have Joe Manchin anymore. Joe Manchin said, he's out.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Yeah, And they're enamored with these high profile and the
- 14:33Speaker 5: AOC for example, she's winning right now, she's gaining in popularity,
- 14:40Speaker 5: so they think, all right, well, let's pin our hopes
- 14:42Speaker 5: on her, let's pin our hopes on all these leftists,
- 14:44Speaker 5: far leftists, socialists, And that's where it's taking the party.
- 14:49Speaker 5: I watched that interview with Shannon Breem, that DSA CoA chair.
- 14:53Speaker 5: I mean, Shannon Breen gave her every opportunity to explain
- 14:56Speaker 5: her way out of this, and she just kept going, Oh, yeah,
- 14:59Speaker 5: abolish prisons. Well, yeah, murderers might be on the street,
- 15:02Speaker 5: but we probably won't have as many murders because everyone
- 15:06Speaker 5: will be in a better position financially.
- 15:08Speaker 4: It's like a.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Hard core libertarian. I lean libertarian. I am not a
- 15:16Speaker 3: full fledged libertarian in the sense that like you'll see
- 15:18Speaker 3: interviews with hard core libertarians and they'll say something like,
- 15:22Speaker 3: all drugs legal all the time, to all ages, what
- 15:26Speaker 3: you know, heroin for eight year olds?
- 15:28Speaker 4: Sure, why not?
- 15:28Speaker 3: Who are we to say that they can't do it? Well,
- 15:31Speaker 3: we're society, that's who we are, right, you know, prostitution.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Running a muck in the streets.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Absolutely, let anybody do what anybody wants all the time.
- 15:39Speaker 3: That's a hard core libertarian, and thankfully Republicans distance themselves
- 15:43Speaker 3: from that kind of insanity. The Democrats, you're being hijacked
- 15:47Speaker 3: right now, and you're losing that battle because as a
- 15:50Speaker 3: political outsider, that's always been where the heat is, that's
- 15:53Speaker 3: always where the momentum is going to go with the
- 15:55Speaker 3: political outsider. They need to do a better job of
- 15:58Speaker 3: stepping up and distancing themselves this big tent party. That's
- 16:01Speaker 3: just the line of crap. And anybody who's a Democrat
- 16:04Speaker 3: not disavowing the DSA, then I guess your silence is
- 16:08Speaker 3: violence towards our constitution. That's what I'm saying to Democrats
- 16:11Speaker 3: who are not speaking out against the DSA, your silence
- 16:15Speaker 3: is violence towards the constitution.
- 16:17Speaker 4: That's what I'm thinking. What do you think?
- 16:18Speaker 3: And use the talkback feature at South Carolina's Morning News.
- 16:21Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 16:24Speaker 2: point five FM, five sixty AM WVOC, and ninety four
- 16:29Speaker 2: to three WSC.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Now, Kelly Nash.
- 16:33Speaker 3: All Right, the news is starting to try to report
- 16:37Speaker 3: a little bit about Tony Fauci.
- 16:39Speaker 4: CBS News last night.
- 16:40Speaker 11: Newly released diary entries by doctor Anthony Fauci or shedding
- 16:44Speaker 11: light on his soaring notoriety during the COVID epidemic. The documents,
- 16:48Speaker 11: released by Republican Senator Ran Paul include Fauci's reflections about
- 16:52Speaker 11: being invited to a list parties, calls with Barbara streisand
- 16:56Speaker 11: but also some uncertainty about the origin of COVID, whether
- 17:00Speaker 11: it started in a wet market in China or linked
- 17:03Speaker 11: from a Wuhan lap.
- 17:04Speaker 3: And that's all they gave you. And that's all they
- 17:06Speaker 3: gave you. Now, what I think you're going to see
- 17:10Speaker 3: the media do in a further attempt to cover up
- 17:13Speaker 3: for Tony Fauci, is focus on the fact that there
- 17:16Speaker 3: are a lot of diary entries. And by the way,
- 17:19Speaker 3: you can see all of Tony Fauci's diaries thanks to
- 17:22Speaker 3: the hard work of Senator Rand Paul who was able
- 17:27Speaker 3: to force them to turn this over and he's published
- 17:30Speaker 3: it all at Paul dot Senate dot gov slash reading room.
- 17:34Speaker 3: There's over a thousand pages, many of which I think
- 17:38Speaker 3: it's over five hundred pages are from Tony Fauci's personal diaries.
- 17:41Speaker 3: They're going to focus on the fact that Tony Fauci
- 17:44Speaker 3: is obviously obsessed, overwhelmingly just enthralled with celebrity status.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Oh, no doubt. I mean that's all he talked about.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Is I was unsenn today, I was with Jake Tapper
- 17:58Speaker 5: last night.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yes, But I think the point that most Americans should
- 18:03Speaker 3: be concerned about, that they're not really talking about, is
- 18:07Speaker 3: his open lying if you go back to his diary
- 18:11Speaker 3: entries from January of twenty twenty. Now, remember, in January
- 18:15Speaker 3: of twenty twenty, most Americans hadn't even heard of the coronavirus,
- 18:20Speaker 3: as they started calling it sometime in February. On an
- 18:23Speaker 3: email excuse me, and a post in I think it's
- 18:26Speaker 3: January twelfth. No, I'm sorry, January twenty six, he's talking
- 18:30Speaker 3: about meeting with twelve scientists, and in that meeting, ten
- 18:34Speaker 3: of the twelve scientists told him it had to be
- 18:38Speaker 3: man made. It's impossible to come from a wet market.
- 18:43Speaker 3: So he knew on January twenty six, twenty twenty, this
- 18:47Speaker 3: thing was created in the Wuhan lab. He knew that,
- 18:51Speaker 3: and yet he continued to lie and lie and lie
- 18:54Speaker 3: because for whatever reason, he didn't want to make the
- 18:56Speaker 3: Wuhan Lab look bad. Now, I guess at this point
- 19:01Speaker 3: we could speculate it's because Tony Fauci was involved with that.
- 19:05Speaker 3: We can also speculate that because when you look at
- 19:07Speaker 3: like what the Ran Paul points out, fo Chi's Fauci's
- 19:11Speaker 3: side hustle. He received millions in prize money from American institutions,
- 19:18Speaker 3: but the largest single cash award to Tony Fauci came
- 19:23Speaker 3: from a foreign institution that wired directly into his account.
- 19:27Speaker 3: Tony Fauci missed a public servant. I'm here for the
- 19:30Speaker 3: good of everybody. That's all I care about is making
- 19:32Speaker 3: sure that everybody lives long, in healthy lives. He got
- 19:35Speaker 3: nine hundred thousand dollars from China. Why why did Tony
- 19:40Speaker 3: Fauci get a nine hundred thousand dollars wire transfer? Was
- 19:44Speaker 3: it to shut his mouth? Was it because he was
- 19:46Speaker 3: actually involved in this? That's what it would seem. He
- 19:50Speaker 3: hasn't said otherwise. All he's been saying is it's a
- 19:54Speaker 3: conspiracy theory. But now we know it's not a conspiracy theory.
- 19:57Speaker 3: When when he went on and told Newt Gingrich and
- 20:00Speaker 3: other people that it was a conspiracy theory that these
- 20:02Speaker 3: the thing was coming out of a lab and not
- 20:04Speaker 3: from a wet market, that has already been debunked by
- 20:08Speaker 3: whom not your scientists. Ten of the twelve told you
- 20:11Speaker 3: it's impossible for this thing to have come from a
- 20:14Speaker 3: wet market, and you knew that, and you chose to
- 20:17Speaker 3: believe the two who said no, I think it's possible,
- 20:20Speaker 3: and then tell the other ten that they're the conspiracy theorists.
- 20:23Speaker 5: And then he's sending emails saying, read this, then destroy it.
- 20:26Speaker 5: He's sending emails he a government official to another government
- 20:30Speaker 5: official saying, read this, then destroy it.
- 20:33Speaker 3: And then in twenty twenty two he's talking about how
- 20:35Speaker 3: I never told anybody to shut anything down.
- 20:37Speaker 4: Well, in your emails, you did.
- 20:39Speaker 3: In your emails to whether you're talking about Newsom in California,
- 20:44Speaker 3: you're talking about Cuomo up in New York, you're talking
- 20:47Speaker 3: about the mayor of New York City. You were sending
- 20:49Speaker 3: emails saying, based on my upcoming television appearance, I'm going
- 20:53Speaker 3: to say it tonight, you should get out in front
- 20:55Speaker 3: of it.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Do the right thing.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Shut the schools, shut the bars, shut the churches, the synagogues. No,
- 21:00Speaker 3: but he goes anywhere, and.
- 21:01Speaker 4: Then he brags about it later on.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Oh, and the people they were thanking me because I
- 21:05Speaker 3: was saving lives. You were killing people. People died in isolation.
- 21:10Speaker 3: People I know, people I know senior citizens who could
- 21:15Speaker 3: not see their children, their adult children. They were not
- 21:19Speaker 3: allowed to have contact with their adult children because of
- 21:22Speaker 3: your stupid orders, and they died alone. And I hope
- 21:27Speaker 3: American never forgets what Tony Fauci did to this country.
- 21:31Speaker 3: He talked about his legacy in this diary. Your legacy
- 21:34Speaker 3: is going to be a disaster. Then, I'm not saying
- 21:37Speaker 3: it's going to be Fauci is like synonymous with Hitler,
- 21:39Speaker 3: but I am going to say that I wouldn't want
- 21:41Speaker 3: the last name Fauci for the next fifty years. That's
- 21:44Speaker 3: a bad last name to have right about now, Tony
- 21:47Speaker 3: Fauci is a liar who destroyed large swaths of America.
- 21:51Speaker 3: The damage that you did to the scholastic system, the
- 21:54Speaker 3: kids that were stuck at home, the people who wore masks,
- 21:58Speaker 3: and the psychological damage that was done them, and you're
- 22:00Speaker 3: mocking them. You're literally mocking them in your emails to
- 22:04Speaker 3: your friends about their wearing the mask. We saw that
- 22:07Speaker 3: on display when you went to the Washington Nationals game
- 22:09Speaker 3: and you wore the mask to throw out the first pitch.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Then you go and sit in the crowd with your
- 22:12Speaker 3: two friends and you take off the mask to chit chat,
- 22:15Speaker 3: proving once again that you knew masks did nothing. But
- 22:18Speaker 3: now we know that you also put that in your notes.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Thank you to rand Paul for getting this out to
- 22:22Speaker 3: the public. But I am. I am furious about this that.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I knew it.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Now that I'm seeing it, I'm even angrier.
- 22:28Speaker 4: I don't know why, but I knew it all along.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Tony Fauci is a big liar who did nothing but
- 22:33Speaker 3: destroy America for several years. And then who is it
- 22:37Speaker 3: that he was excited about? Not Barbara Streisch, I know
- 22:40Speaker 3: that one excited him, but I think it was Julia Roberts.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Julia Roberts called me your a hero? Can you believe
- 22:46Speaker 3: that I am Julia Roberts hero? Oh my god? Shut up? Ah,
- 22:50Speaker 3: all right, if you want to read more of the
- 22:52Speaker 3: Fauci things, you can go to Paul dot Senate dot
- 22:55Speaker 3: gov slash reading room. We'll get the day back on
- 22:57Speaker 3: the good foot. We're gonna get happy again. Coming up,
- 23:00Speaker 3: This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 23:02Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 23:06Speaker 2: point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC, Columbia and
- 23:11Speaker 2: ninety four to three WSC Charleston.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Now, Kelly Nash.
- 23:16Speaker 3: You know everybody's talking about AI, everybody's talking about robots,
- 23:20Speaker 3: everybody's talking about what will the future hold? And Sean
- 23:25Speaker 3: Hannity's going to be talking about that as well in
- 23:27Speaker 3: just a second with the Morning Minute, because uh, you
- 23:30Speaker 3: know this is Christopher. Is a crazy time in the world,
- 23:33Speaker 3: isn't it.
- 23:34Speaker 5: It is no doubt.
- 23:35Speaker 3: I mean, we we're seeing AI jump forward in leaps
- 23:38Speaker 3: and bounds, and at the forefront of that is a
- 23:42Speaker 3: man who warned us against this it would be elon musk.
- 23:46Speaker 5: But now he's making money from it.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Well, you know he said it. How did he say it?
- 23:50Speaker 3: Something about you know, you can only hope against it
- 23:54Speaker 3: long enough. At some point you have to have to
- 23:56Speaker 3: recognize that that door is going to be opened, and
- 23:59Speaker 3: are are we going to be a part of it
- 24:01Speaker 3: and try to use it for good? Are we just
- 24:03Speaker 3: going to allow it to go off the rail? So
- 24:05Speaker 3: he's trying to control AI as best he can, but
- 24:10Speaker 3: I'm not You know that story last week it was
- 24:14Speaker 3: we were talking about what happened with chat GPT getting
- 24:16Speaker 3: out of the digital sandbox and launching attacks on competing
- 24:20Speaker 3: AI companies. That was bizarre. We've also had these stories
- 24:24Speaker 3: where the people went and unfortunately did There are things
- 24:28Speaker 3: with AI that are not so nice either from.
- 24:30Speaker 1: The Midlands to the low country.
- 24:32Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 24:35Speaker 2: point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC and ninety
- 24:40Speaker 2: four to three WSC.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Now here's Kelly Nash.
- 24:44Speaker 3: And waiting in the wings to join us. The former
- 24:48Speaker 3: governor of the great state of South Carolina, and I
- 24:51Speaker 3: believe the last man to enter into our current Senate race,
- 24:55Speaker 3: Mark Sandford. We're going to play our interview with Mark
- 24:58Speaker 3: Sandford coming up after the top the hour news.
- 25:01Speaker 4: So stand by for that.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And you know, maybe I'm gonna delve into this Teddy
- 25:05Speaker 3: Roosevelt proposal from years ago. Maybe maybe it's time to
- 25:11Speaker 3: bring back some more Teddy Wow, the Teddy Roosevelt, the doctrines.
- 25:16Speaker 3: We'll look at that and more. This is South Carolina's
- 25:19Speaker 3: Morning News.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Live from the State Capitol.
- 25:22Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 25:27Speaker 3: And good morning, about three after seven o'clock. Hope you're
- 25:30Speaker 3: getting a great start to your day. Yesterday got a
- 25:33Speaker 3: phone call from the former governor of South Carolina and new,
- 25:38Speaker 3: brand new candidate.
- 25:40Speaker 4: To run for the Senate seat.
- 25:42Speaker 3: As we talked about the passing of Lindsay Graham and
- 25:45Speaker 3: all the ceremonies happening today, Mark Sandford. I started recording
- 25:51Speaker 3: right after I said something about you know, I hope
- 25:53Speaker 3: you're doing great or whatever, and he said, not as
- 25:55Speaker 3: good as you in there.
- 25:56Speaker 9: How about that?
- 25:59Speaker 4: Come on, and only.
- 26:00Speaker 3: One of us has a chance of being the next
- 26:01Speaker 3: Senator from South Carolina.
- 26:03Speaker 12: Well, all in want of it has a well acclaimed
- 26:05Speaker 12: you know, radio show in podcast thing going.
- 26:08Speaker 9: So you know, we get all levels out.
- 26:12Speaker 3: You were a little bit later than some of the
- 26:13Speaker 3: other candidates getting in. Was there a reason why you
- 26:17Speaker 3: waited just a couple of days longer?
- 26:19Speaker 9: Well, there's a little bit of fear interrepidation, so it
- 26:21Speaker 9: goes with this. But really you talk about a daunting
- 26:24Speaker 9: task in terms of time to begin to build a
- 26:28Speaker 9: team and get organized.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Had you in your mind kind of decided that you
- 26:33Speaker 3: were going to be done with politics until this opening
- 26:35Speaker 3: appeared totally, you know.
- 26:37Speaker 9: I should ask me two weeks ago was this even
- 26:40Speaker 9: a remote possibility? I would have sort of laughed, and
- 26:42Speaker 9: you would have laughed too. But this whole thing has
- 26:45Speaker 9: come up out of left field. But we are where
- 26:48Speaker 9: we are, and I believe so strongly and my fears
- 26:52Speaker 9: on the financial trajectory of our federal government that I've
- 26:56Speaker 9: gotten into this.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Say, yeah, we're talking with Mark Sandford. You have always
- 26:59Speaker 3: been a legendary fiscal hawk. There has been nobody sounding
- 27:05Speaker 3: the alarm louder than you when it comes to the
- 27:08Speaker 3: national debt. And when you go to your page, Mark
- 27:11Speaker 3: Sandford dot com, you give the record of results, and
- 27:14Speaker 3: you've got an impressive history on cutting spending. At the
- 27:18Speaker 3: same time, when you look at your issues page, there's
- 27:21Speaker 3: more issues than just the national debt and the deficit
- 27:25Speaker 3: and all this sort of stuff, which again is crushing.
- 27:27Speaker 3: And when you look at Mark Sandford dot com you'll
- 27:29Speaker 3: see how it factors into defense, healthcare, social security, immigration,
- 27:34Speaker 3: so on and so forth. When I look at the
- 27:37Speaker 3: Heritage Foundation and their rankings, one of the things that
- 27:41Speaker 3: a lot of South Carolinians had pointed out was that
- 27:43Speaker 3: Lindsey Graham usually came in with a moderate score. He
- 27:47Speaker 3: wasn't considered very conservative. I think this lifetime average was
- 27:51Speaker 3: like in the sixties or something. He got like a
- 27:53Speaker 3: seventy six for the last session. What about you as
- 27:57Speaker 3: a senator would be maybe the same name as Lindsay
- 28:00Speaker 3: Graham and or different than Lindsay Graham.
- 28:03Speaker 9: Well, I mean he certainly got, you know, big shoes
- 28:06Speaker 9: to fill in terms of representing the state. I mean,
- 28:09Speaker 9: you know, if you look back since nineteen fifty four,
- 28:11Speaker 9: they've been two senators, and Strong in his way and
- 28:14Speaker 9: Lindsay in his way. I think certainly did there, you know,
- 28:18Speaker 9: perform their role in watching out for the state, and
- 28:20Speaker 9: it would be no different for me. I'm not unaware
- 28:22Speaker 9: of the responsibility to go with representing a certain part
- 28:27Speaker 9: of the country. And again I think I've demonstrated that
- 28:32Speaker 9: in working governorship and work in Congress. But the reason
- 28:37Speaker 9: I'm talking about the dead is all this other sort
- 28:40Speaker 9: of fade away. If you don't get that part right,
- 28:43Speaker 9: I would see the point that the responsibility to go
- 28:46Speaker 9: with the office. I'm not in any way unaware of those. Yes,
- 28:50Speaker 9: I think I would be a good steward in the office,
- 28:54Speaker 9: but I would as well be an incredibly mighty advocate
- 28:59Speaker 9: on behalf of people pocketbooks and wallets that have been
- 29:02Speaker 9: forgotten about it in Washington, d C.
- 29:03Speaker 3: All right, there's a part of the interview with Mark
- 29:06Speaker 3: Sandford from yesterday. It went about maybe close to fifteen minutes.
- 29:10Speaker 3: You can get all of it on my podcast, The
- 29:13Speaker 3: National Briefing. I put that up on my Facebook page,
- 29:16Speaker 3: Christopher and I'll tell you and typically I don't get
- 29:20Speaker 3: a whole lot of traction on Facebook, just honestly. I mean,
- 29:23Speaker 3: I get a couple of comments here, a couple of likes,
- 29:25Speaker 3: couple of I think I probably get more people telling
- 29:28Speaker 3: me I'm a blowhard than anything on Facebook. But the
- 29:32Speaker 3: interview with Mark Sandford, I just looked at it right now,
- 29:34Speaker 3: has one hundred and ninety six comments.
- 29:37Speaker 5: Wow already. Yeah, and it just went up yesterday.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Yeah. People are passionate on both sides of him. Some
- 29:45Speaker 3: people cannot stand this guy. They talk about him as
- 29:48Speaker 3: he's a trader to the state, he abandoned his post,
- 29:52Speaker 3: he's a loser, he did this, that and the other
- 29:54Speaker 3: other people are like best thing that could ever happen
- 29:57Speaker 3: to us. Fiscal conservative is going to save the democracy,
- 30:00Speaker 3: all this sort of the stuff.
- 30:01Speaker 4: So, I mean, I.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Can't remember a guy who is more of a lightning
- 30:05Speaker 3: rod than Mark Sandford.
- 30:07Speaker 5: And that bodes well for his candidacy because there are
- 30:09Speaker 5: a lot of candidates. I mean, this is a crowded field,
- 30:12Speaker 5: and you've already got a lot of candidates that people
- 30:14Speaker 5: either don't know about or they're lukewarm toward. At least
- 30:19Speaker 5: Sandford is drawing some fire. Whether it's good or bad.
- 30:22Speaker 3: I think I haven't heard any negatives about Ralph Norman
- 30:26Speaker 3: other than his age. But I think he's got a
- 30:30Speaker 3: very passionate base as well.
- 30:32Speaker 5: Oh, no doubt.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Russell Fry seems to be picking up even more steam
- 30:36Speaker 3: as we talk. And again the alleged front runner, what
- 30:41Speaker 3: do we have five hours left for Trey Goudi to file?
- 30:44Speaker 4: If he's going to file, you got to do.
- 30:45Speaker 5: It before that was one poll Keilly and I don't
- 30:49Speaker 5: think he's going to be a late entry.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Well, we'll be watching. Christopher Thompson will be on it.
- 30:53Speaker 3: If it happens breaking news, Christopher Thompson will be first
- 30:56Speaker 3: to report it. Yeah, until noon till day is when
- 30:59Speaker 3: you have to file if you want to be in
- 31:01Speaker 3: this Senate campaign. And again we'll have a quick turnaround
- 31:05Speaker 3: on that as early voting starts next week in South
- 31:08Speaker 3: Carolina to decide who the next senator is. All right,
- 31:10Speaker 3: more to come, you know, I am going to talk
- 31:12Speaker 3: about the Teddy Roosevelt propos not even a proposal, the
- 31:16Speaker 3: actual policy that was implemented back in the early nineteen
- 31:19Speaker 3: hundreds here in America, and then why we changed it
- 31:21Speaker 3: and all that sort of stuff. It's kind of fascinating
- 31:24Speaker 3: as to what it's led to. We'll get into that
- 31:26Speaker 3: and more as we take a roll through the morning
- 31:28Speaker 3: on South Carolina's Morning News.
- 31:30Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 31:35Speaker 3: All Right, So the chant on a lot of not
- 31:38Speaker 3: just US campuses, but a lot of just Western cultural
- 31:45Speaker 3: you know, population centers, whether you're talking about London, Munich, wherever.
- 31:50Speaker 3: The last couple of years had been globalized the Intafada,
- 31:55Speaker 3: and a lot of people on talk radio stations like
- 31:57Speaker 3: this had been warning that that's a very danger Juris
- 32:00Speaker 3: slogan because the Entifada is actually calling for war against
- 32:05Speaker 3: Christians and they want to globalize it. And well, yesterday
- 32:10Speaker 3: we kind of saw the fruition of that is starting
- 32:13Speaker 3: to come home to roost. As Friday you had a
- 32:16Speaker 3: a la a la akbar chant going on as you
- 32:19Speaker 3: got a guy stabbing two people, one in the back
- 32:21Speaker 3: with a knife, which he left in the back, and
- 32:23Speaker 3: then they saw a Jewish guy leaving a synagogue and
- 32:26Speaker 3: stabbed him with a screwdriver on the Upper West fifty
- 32:28Speaker 3: seventh Street or Upper West Side, I should say. Then
- 32:33Speaker 3: the next day in Germany you had a guy who
- 32:36Speaker 3: had already been arrested for hate crimes against Jews. And
- 32:42Speaker 3: this is bizarre that in Germany the prosecutors were upset
- 32:46Speaker 3: that he had only gotten a year sentence, so they
- 32:49Speaker 3: were appealing to the judge to increase the length of
- 32:52Speaker 3: his sentence. Apparently under German law, when you appeal a sentence,
- 32:57Speaker 3: they let you go wow. And so that guy, while
- 33:00Speaker 3: out waiting to find out what his final sentence would be,
- 33:03Speaker 3: rented a van, used it to run over a bunch
- 33:06Speaker 3: of people at a gay pride parade, then got out
- 33:08Speaker 3: with a machete and started hacking away. He ended up
- 33:12Speaker 3: being shot dead at his apartment a little bit later on.
- 33:15Speaker 3: And then yesterday morning, in I think it was Paris,
- 33:19Speaker 3: you had another a la a la akbar chant going
- 33:22Speaker 3: as the guy went and stabbed three women, including a
- 33:24Speaker 3: pregnant woman, on the streets of Paris. So they are
- 33:27Speaker 3: globalizing the entafada. Years ago, Teddy Roosevelt had a change
- 33:32Speaker 3: to immigration policy in nineteen oh seven. We've already outlawed
- 33:38Speaker 3: polygamy in this country. What he said and what became
- 33:42Speaker 3: the law beginning in nineteen oh seven was if you
- 33:46Speaker 3: subscribed to the belief in polygamy, you cannot become a
- 33:51Speaker 3: US citizen. That was the and that was the way
- 33:54Speaker 3: it was interpreted from nineteen oh seven till nineteen fifty two.
- 33:58Speaker 3: And in nineteen fifty two Congress changed it and said
- 34:02Speaker 3: you just can't say it's the belief in polygamy. That
- 34:04Speaker 3: was specifically targeted at Muslims because the Korean says that
- 34:08Speaker 3: the men can have up to four wives. That was
- 34:11Speaker 3: his way of saying that the Muslim faith is a
- 34:14Speaker 3: dangerous faith to Western culture. He talked about it in
- 34:17Speaker 3: his book from nineteen sixteen, Fear God and Take Your
- 34:20Speaker 3: Own Part.
- 34:21Speaker 4: That was so teddy.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Roosevelt back in the early nineteen hundreds was concerned that
- 34:27Speaker 3: radical Islam was going to take over Western culture if
- 34:29Speaker 3: we weren't careful. Well, nineteen fifty two we changed the
- 34:32Speaker 3: law to say you actually have to be practicing polygamy,
- 34:36Speaker 3: not just believing in it. And well, now here we
- 34:39Speaker 3: are in the year twenty twenty six and the entafada
- 34:42Speaker 3: is coming to our country.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I don't know if it's too late to.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Go back and change the law back to the nineteen
- 34:48Speaker 3: oh seven, the nineteen fifty two era. It's tough to
- 34:52Speaker 3: figure out ways to stop this radical Islam that is
- 34:56Speaker 3: now sweeping not just America, but the Western culture in general.
- 35:00Speaker 5: Roosevelt had a lot of beliefs about immigration and about
- 35:03Speaker 5: how you should come into this country ready to assimilate,
- 35:07Speaker 5: that you don't carry your old ways into the new country.
- 35:11Speaker 5: You come to America, you speak English. You there are
- 35:15Speaker 5: no such things as this hyphen American or that hyphen American.
- 35:20Speaker 5: You come to America, you are an American, and you're
- 35:22Speaker 5: expected to engage in these beliefs rather than bring your
- 35:26Speaker 5: old country's ways with you.
- 35:28Speaker 3: And you know to that point, my grandfather is from Italy.
- 35:33Speaker 3: He did not like the Italian American Club. I played baseball.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I played for the Lions Club. By the way, we
- 35:39Speaker 3: were very good at the Lions Club when the town
- 35:41Speaker 3: championship one year in East Hartford. But the one of
- 35:45Speaker 3: the teams that we used to play against was the IAC,
- 35:47Speaker 3: the Italian American Club.
- 35:48Speaker 4: He didn't like that.
- 35:49Speaker 3: He did not like that the Italians were signaling themselves
- 35:52Speaker 3: out as we are a people group. He was like,
- 35:54Speaker 3: you're Americans. And you know, his parents wouldn't let him
- 35:59Speaker 3: speak Italian in the house. They said you're going to
- 36:01Speaker 3: be an American. You're not an Italian child, You're an
- 36:03Speaker 3: American child, and you want to assimilate into America. I
- 36:07Speaker 3: love the speech that Gene Simmons was a speech. But
- 36:09Speaker 3: Geen Simmons was talking to Dan Rather one day talking
- 36:12Speaker 3: about why he changed his name to Gene. He said,
- 36:14Speaker 3: because my name is Jewish and it sounds like you're
- 36:17Speaker 3: coughing up, you know, fur balls trying to say my name.
- 36:20Speaker 3: And I wanted to make my name as easy as
- 36:22Speaker 3: possible for Americans to say, because I could not believe
- 36:25Speaker 3: how gracious they were in allowing me to have all
- 36:29Speaker 3: the privileges of the native born Americans because we would
- 36:32Speaker 3: swear an allegiance to their country. They were going to
- 36:34Speaker 3: let me. So why wouldn't I just change my name
- 36:36Speaker 3: to make it easy for the Americans? So I became Gene.
- 36:39Speaker 3: And I appreciate Gene simmons patriotism. I believe that he's
- 36:42Speaker 3: a great American patriot, and we are a very welcoming country.
- 36:46Speaker 3: If you want to fit in, if you want to
- 36:48Speaker 3: disrupt what we have going on here, I don't have
- 36:51Speaker 3: any tolerance for that. Christopher. I don't think you do either. Yeah.
- 36:54Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not saying you can't bring some of
- 36:55Speaker 5: your heritage with you. I mean, you know, cooking and
- 36:59Speaker 5: other custom but you assimilate into what Americans think and believe.
- 37:04Speaker 5: That's that's part of the role of when you come
- 37:07Speaker 5: in to our country, when we welcome you in, when
- 37:10Speaker 5: you take the oath of citizenship, that's what you're doing.
- 37:13Speaker 5: You are taking on the role of an American citizen.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Yeah, Teddy Roosevelt had some clever ideas on how to
- 37:20Speaker 3: try to stop it. Unfortunately Congress so changed it in
- 37:22Speaker 3: nineteen fifty two. If you have thoughts on that or
- 37:24Speaker 3: maybe the interview would do with Mark Sanford used the
- 37:26Speaker 3: talk back feature and let us know on South Carolina's
- 37:29Speaker 3: Morning News.
- 37:30Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 37:36Speaker 3: And as I look around some of the local media
- 37:39Speaker 3: in Charleston and Columbia, one of the I'll say, above
- 37:45Speaker 3: the fold. That's the phrase they used to use when
- 37:47Speaker 3: you used to get a newspaper. You know, you have
- 37:50Speaker 3: the fold, and if you had your story above the fold,
- 37:53Speaker 3: that meant it was big, big news. We don't have
- 37:56Speaker 3: folds anymore, but we do have you know, headlines that
- 37:59Speaker 3: are kind of more prominent than others. I've noticed several
- 38:02Speaker 3: television stations in Charleston and Columbia. I'm reading this from WOLO,
- 38:08Speaker 3: that's our media partner station here in Columbia. The headline
- 38:13Speaker 3: the number one story, Jermaine Johnson to hold special lieutenant
- 38:17Speaker 3: governor announcement this week.
- 38:20Speaker 5: He's been teasing that for over a week now, So
- 38:23Speaker 5: all right, the announcement's finally coming.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I yes, I can't believe that this is that big
- 38:30Speaker 3: of a news. He's going to have a press conference,
- 38:34Speaker 3: what was it Thursday at the State House eleven o'clock
- 38:38Speaker 3: in the morning. How many people are going to be
- 38:40Speaker 3: tuned in to find out who got the nod to
- 38:44Speaker 3: come in as the first runner ups in the governor's race.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Well, I mean it is news in a sense that
- 38:52Speaker 5: you know, it's we're all wondering, all right, who will
- 38:54Speaker 5: be his partner going up against the Republican duo. So
- 38:58Speaker 5: it is new in a sense, do you think?
- 39:03Speaker 3: And this is just Christopher Thompson, well educated, well informed
- 39:07Speaker 3: person on the political scene, speculating And I don't even
- 39:10Speaker 3: know if I can get them to speculate. I'll try, Okay,
- 39:13Speaker 3: do you think that there are people in the Democrat
- 39:15Speaker 3: Party who were offered this position and said, nah, I'm good.
- 39:21Speaker 5: Maybe yeah, I mean, it wouldn't surprise me. It doesn't
- 39:25Speaker 5: do much for your political future if you're on that
- 39:28Speaker 5: losing ticket. But I don't know. And you know, a
- 39:32Speaker 5: lot of speculation has revolved of around former Republican state
- 39:36Speaker 5: Senator Katrina Sheeley. I don't know if she's seriously being
- 39:39Speaker 5: considered or not, but there's certainly been a fair share
- 39:44Speaker 5: of speculation on social media about it.
- 39:46Speaker 3: I boy, would that help the Democrats if Katrina Sheeley
- 39:51Speaker 3: popped up on their ticket?
- 39:53Speaker 5: I think it probably hurts her more than it helps him.
- 39:56Speaker 5: I mean, it's you know, for all the talk about
- 39:59Speaker 5: her thoughts about abortion, and you know she was she
- 40:04Speaker 5: was not necessarily pro choice, but she was very much
- 40:08Speaker 5: in favor of a woman being in charge of the
- 40:12Speaker 5: choices that women make about their bodies. I just think
- 40:17Speaker 5: this would take her in the opposite direction because she
- 40:19Speaker 5: had some conservative bent to her otherwise. And you know,
- 40:23Speaker 5: if she gets on the Democrat ticket, it just you know,
- 40:26Speaker 5: you can talk about a balance ticket, okay, but I
- 40:29Speaker 5: think people would just immediately say Okay, that's that's her
- 40:33Speaker 5: true calling. She was a Democrat all along.
- 40:35Speaker 3: You know, I'm just looking at Henry McMaster and his
- 40:39Speaker 3: runs for either a lieutenant governor or governor, and I
- 40:43Speaker 3: guess basically the governor's position would be the one that's
- 40:47Speaker 3: most applicable. Though he did beat Bacari Sellers, and that's
- 40:50Speaker 3: back when we used to elect lieutenant governors independently. Yeah,
- 40:54Speaker 3: so McMaster vers Bacari Sellers, that was a he fifty
- 40:57Speaker 3: eight to forty two type of thing. McMaster versus James E. Smith,
- 41:04Speaker 3: that was his closest one as far as at the
- 41:07Speaker 3: governor's level. Smith got forty six percent. McMaster fifty three,
- 41:11Speaker 3: so again handily won won by over almost two hundred
- 41:16Speaker 3: thousand votes. McMaster versus Joe Cunningham, who I thought was
- 41:21Speaker 3: going to do better because Joe Cunningham a pretty attractive
- 41:24Speaker 3: candidate as far as how he speaks and presents himselves,
- 41:27Speaker 3: and blah blah blah got his tush handed to him
- 41:30Speaker 3: fifty eight to forty one. There was one percent for
- 41:33Speaker 3: some guy named Bruce Reeves in that election. That's why
- 41:36Speaker 3: it wasn't fifty eight forty two. But yeah, I again
- 41:40Speaker 3: I think in this state. I've seen a lot of
- 41:42Speaker 3: polling coming out for what's her face, Ay Andrews, and
- 41:46Speaker 3: she's pulling it, and they have her beating everybody on
- 41:48Speaker 3: the Republican side, and she's maxed out at about forty
- 41:51Speaker 3: five percent.
- 41:52Speaker 4: And that's what I'm saying to everybody.
- 41:53Speaker 3: I believe the polls in the sense that that's as
- 41:55Speaker 3: much as a Democrat is going to get in this
- 41:57Speaker 3: state is about forty five, maybe forty six percent. You're
- 42:00Speaker 3: never going to get over fifty. In other words, to
- 42:03Speaker 3: quote what's his name or what even you can quote
- 42:06Speaker 3: what's her name, Rocky's wife? Why am I drawing a
- 42:10Speaker 3: blake on Adrian?
- 42:10Speaker 4: Yeah, your Adrian.
- 42:12Speaker 3: You can't win rock you can't win Democrats. So it'll
- 42:17Speaker 3: be interesting to see who signs up to be the
- 42:19Speaker 3: first loser in the governor's race along with what's his face?
- 42:22Speaker 3: Here from Richland County Sirmaine Johnson. Jermaine Johnson, thank you
- 42:25Speaker 3: for correcting me. That'll be happening Thursday at eleven. I'm
- 42:27Speaker 3: sure we'll give you an update here on South Carolina's
- 42:30Speaker 3: morning News.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Your news, traffic, weather and information stations. This is South
- 42:36Speaker 2: Carolina's Morning News on one oh three point five FM,
- 42:39Speaker 2: five sixty AM WVOC and ninety four to three WSC
- 42:45Speaker 2: Now Kelly Nash.
- 42:47Speaker 3: And I am so thankful to Christopher Thompson is here
- 42:49Speaker 3: because he is the calm, cool, collected and someone with
- 42:54Speaker 3: the insights as to what's actually happening. I tend to
- 42:58Speaker 3: fly off the handle. So I'm going to fly off
- 43:00Speaker 3: the handle. And you tell me, Christopher, if I'm completely
- 43:03Speaker 3: out of line or where I'm.
- 43:04Speaker 5: Out of line, all right, I might agree with you.
- 43:06Speaker 3: My understanding is that the that the president came to
- 43:10Speaker 3: a settlement with the IRS after the IRS did not
- 43:13Speaker 3: protect his returns and leaked them to the press, and
- 43:19Speaker 3: that settlement was a one point eight billion dollar anti
- 43:23Speaker 3: weaponization fund that the president was going to use to
- 43:27Speaker 3: basically make whole people who had been in his opinion
- 43:32Speaker 3: and a panel that he was going to put together
- 43:35Speaker 3: their opinion that people had been injured by law fair
- 43:39Speaker 3: under the Biden administration and the Obama administration basically, and
- 43:43Speaker 3: that this one point eight billion had to be spent
- 43:45Speaker 3: during his presidency. If it was not spent, whatever was
- 43:49Speaker 3: left over at the end of his presidency would then
- 43:51Speaker 3: be returned to the Treasury. But that is a settlement
- 43:54Speaker 3: between the President and the IRS.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Is that your understanding of it?
- 43:58Speaker 5: That is my understanding.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Yes, And there was a huge pushback on the idea
- 44:01Speaker 3: about this anti weaponization fund, and so then.
- 44:04Speaker 5: That was I think the pushback specifically was about it
- 44:07Speaker 5: being used to defend those who had been a part
- 44:11Speaker 5: of the January uprising.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but again it's the that is where the
- 44:16Speaker 3: pushback came. Yes, but it is the agreement between the
- 44:20Speaker 3: IRS and the president. So when they blocked the one
- 44:24Speaker 3: point eight billion dollar anti weaponization fund, alls the president
- 44:28Speaker 3: has now received is a written apology from the IRS
- 44:33Speaker 3: for leaking his information. And I see today that. Yes,
- 44:39Speaker 3: last night, John Cornyn told reporters that unless Todd Blanche
- 44:44Speaker 3: signs a document saying that they will never bring up
- 44:47Speaker 3: this anti weaponization fund again, he will block Blanche's nomination
- 44:52Speaker 3: and it won't get out of committee. And so he
- 44:55Speaker 3: want and he's not specific although he's alluding to he
- 44:58Speaker 3: might want the president's signature on that as well, but
- 45:00Speaker 3: I think he might think that if Blanche signs it,
- 45:02Speaker 3: that'll be enough. What do you what do you suggest
- 45:08Speaker 3: happens for the president who again, by all accounts. The
- 45:13Speaker 3: IRS acknowledges they were wrong, The Justices admit that they
- 45:17Speaker 3: were wrong. The President says I was injured by this.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Everybody agrees. What does he get? Then?
- 45:24Speaker 4: Does he?
- 45:24Speaker 3: Could he take the one point eight billion dollars and
- 45:26Speaker 3: then just hand it out to whomever he feels like
- 45:29Speaker 3: giving it to.
- 45:30Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think the settlement was originally written
- 45:33Speaker 5: that way, but I'm not sure how Cornyn can challenge
- 45:36Speaker 5: it anyway.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Well, that's all he's just saying. I'm just telling you,
- 45:39Speaker 3: I'm not going to sign it. Hey, he's not going
- 45:41Speaker 3: to get out of committee. We're going to kill Todd
- 45:42Speaker 3: Blanche's career. Donald Trump, You're screwed. I don't care. I'm
- 45:45Speaker 3: not running for office. I already lost. So I'm just
- 45:48Speaker 3: going to be this guy who doesn't allow you any
- 45:53Speaker 3: of the settlement.
- 45:54Speaker 5: And in the meantime, the Blanche appointment gets hung up,
- 45:58Speaker 5: and nomination gets hung up and everything else, and the
- 46:01Speaker 5: Senate gets hung up.
- 46:02Speaker 3: God, this guy's infuriating. There are so many guys like
- 46:05Speaker 3: this in the Senate.
- 46:06Speaker 4: You know.
- 46:06Speaker 3: It's like, you know, I was talking about this yesterday. Typically,
- 46:10Speaker 3: we look at the tradition of voting in America, and
- 46:14Speaker 3: we see that if a party has the presidency, the House,
- 46:17Speaker 3: and the Senate the last one hundred years, it's almost
- 46:20Speaker 3: one hundred percent of the time that in the midterms,
- 46:22Speaker 3: whoever has all of that loses the House in the Senate,
- 46:26Speaker 3: that's almost one hundred percent of the time because whether
- 46:28Speaker 3: it's consciously or unconsciously, Americans vote in a way to
- 46:33Speaker 3: kind of give stalemate to the way government operates. In
- 46:37Speaker 3: this instance, we might win, the Republicans might win because
- 46:40Speaker 3: we're stale mating ourselves. We are the Democrats. At this point,
- 46:44Speaker 3: it's unbelievable how we have zero ability to even pass
- 46:47Speaker 3: the Save of America Act where eight out of ten
- 46:49Speaker 3: people want it. John Cornyn is frustrating. That's the word
- 46:54Speaker 3: of the day. Frustrating. But again, for those of you
- 46:57Speaker 3: who don't want him to have the one point eight
- 46:58Speaker 3: billion dollars, I would I mean to give out to
- 47:01Speaker 3: basically people he found to be offended by the or
- 47:05Speaker 3: not offended injured by the lawfair, what is your remedy?
- 47:08Speaker 3: Then that's all he wanted was a personal apology and
- 47:11Speaker 3: to help other people. Now does he just take the
- 47:13Speaker 3: one point if he was a greedy person, like they say,
- 47:15Speaker 3: he take that one point eight billion dollars, put it
- 47:17Speaker 3: in his pocket and go on vacation or something.
- 47:19Speaker 5: But yeah, but the bunny didn't specifically go to him
- 47:21Speaker 5: or his sons, who also had their their tax information
- 47:25Speaker 5: put out there. It went to this fund which was
- 47:28Speaker 5: going to be doled out by a five member commission
- 47:31Speaker 5: appointed by Todd blanche Yes, and now we can't even
- 47:34Speaker 5: get that far.
- 47:35Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying.
- 47:36Speaker 3: So right now, Donald Trump got nothing right even though
- 47:39Speaker 3: he according to the IRS, we screwed Trump and they're
- 47:43Speaker 3: not gonna okay, maybe you guys have thoughts on that.
- 47:47Speaker 3: You can use the talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app.
- 47:50Speaker 3: It is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 47:52Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one All three
- 47:55Speaker 2: point five FM and five sixty AM Wvocumbia and ninety
- 48:01Speaker 2: four to three WSC Charleston.
- 48:04Speaker 1: Now Kelly Nash.
- 48:06Speaker 3: And yesterday we were responding to the President's Friday night
- 48:11Speaker 3: address at the White House Correspondence Association dinner, and Christopher
- 48:17Speaker 3: and I both kind of not very impressed with the
- 48:19Speaker 3: comedic timing, although I did appreciate the Barry Weiss joke.
- 48:23Speaker 4: I thought that was funny.
- 48:23Speaker 3: I thought the Robert Kennedy joke was pretty funny. The
- 48:27Speaker 3: one where it got everybody talking is the Caitlyn Collins joke.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And Caitlyn Collins last night went on to the Daily
- 48:37Speaker 3: Show with John Stewart to talk about it and said,
- 48:41Speaker 3: when he's insulting me, he's criticizing me. I think these
- 48:45Speaker 3: in those moments, it's important to remember what put me
- 48:48Speaker 3: back into this work and the non answers that we
- 48:51Speaker 3: get and the answers that we get. But I want
- 48:53Speaker 3: to just focus on he's insulting me? Is he insulting
- 48:57Speaker 3: her by comparing Katelyn kom Ones to Dylan mulvany. That
- 49:02Speaker 3: was the joke that they're the same there, they look
- 49:05Speaker 3: the same. How could that possibly be an insult when
- 49:08Speaker 3: alls I've been told is Dylan Malvany is a beautiful woman.
- 49:13Speaker 5: That was your that was your spin on things, Caitlyn Collins.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Caitlyn Collins says she was insulted that she was compared
- 49:21Speaker 3: to Dylan Malvany. Why if you are if you believe
- 49:24Speaker 3: that Dylan Malvany is a beautiful woman, and I believe
- 49:26Speaker 3: Trump even prefaced it by saying Caitlyn, you should smile more.
- 49:30Speaker 3: You're a beautiful woman, and then compared you to Dylan mulvaney,
- 49:35Speaker 3: who the rest of us in Reelsville recognizes as this
- 49:39Speaker 3: man pretending to be a woman dressed as a woman.
- 49:41Speaker 4: Yeah, but you acknowledge her as a woman. So what
- 49:45Speaker 4: where is the insult.
- 49:46Speaker 3: I'm waiting for the trans community to come out against
- 49:48Speaker 3: Caitlyn Collins today and say you shouldn't have been insulted.
- 49:51Speaker 3: You should be glorified to be compared to such a
- 49:54Speaker 3: gorgeous woman as Dylan malvany.
- 49:57Speaker 5: Christopher, your making a face. Yeah that's not translating to radio,
- 50:03Speaker 5: but yeah, I don't And if I'm Caitlin Collins, that's
- 50:06Speaker 5: not the direction I would have chosen to go in anyway.
- 50:09Speaker 3: There's plenty of other options that she could have out there,
- 50:11Speaker 3: but you know, you got to try to make some
- 50:13Speaker 3: buzz while you can. So there's that's her hot take.
- 50:15Speaker 3: What are your hot takes? Let us know on the
- 50:17Speaker 3: talkback feature off the iHeartRadio app at South Carolina's Morning News.
- 50:21Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 50:24Speaker 2: point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC and ninety
- 50:29Speaker 2: four to three WSC now here's Kelly Nash.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Donald Trump has a leaking problem. Somebody in his administration
- 50:40Speaker 3: is leaking stuff about Iran, and he needs to clamp
- 50:44Speaker 3: down on this. I mean, it's getting ridiculous as to
- 50:47Speaker 3: the kind of information that is. Either it's either accurate
- 50:50Speaker 3: information or it's just designed to weaken military presence in
- 50:56Speaker 3: the region we're talking about, you know, certain generals are
- 50:59Speaker 3: saying that we're running low on ammunition, those types of things.
- 51:03Speaker 3: We've also got private quote private Iran leaks coming out
- 51:07Speaker 3: of the Oval Office. According to the Wall Street Journal,
- 51:10Speaker 3: they're talking about some of the things that he's saying
- 51:12Speaker 3: behind closed doors. I don't know how hard is it
- 51:15Speaker 3: for the Trump administration to figure out who's leaking these things.
- 51:17Speaker 3: There's only so many people that can be in these rooms.
- 51:20Speaker 3: I would think they've got to figure this thing out
- 51:24Speaker 3: because it's getting dangerous for the United States military. It's
- 51:28Speaker 3: getting dangerous for US as a global leader. It's getting dangerous.
- 51:31Speaker 3: And Christopher, when we come back, I think we're going
- 51:34Speaker 3: to talk about an even more shocking leak. I mean, yes,
- 51:38Speaker 3: the Iranian leaks are crazy as far as what's going
- 51:42Speaker 3: on with our military, But the other things that they're
- 51:44Speaker 3: leaking about him personally.
- 51:46Speaker 4: To me, it's unbelievable.
- 51:49Speaker 3: Unbelievable insights into the president have now been leaked into
- 51:53Speaker 3: the public arena, so much so that they're using them
- 51:57Speaker 3: as videos to threaten members of his family.
- 52:00Speaker 5: You've also got Fox News Radios Jared Halpern, who was
- 52:02Speaker 5: on that trip to Michigan with the President. He's coming
- 52:05Speaker 5: up at eight oh three with.
- 52:06Speaker 3: You Yeah so and again big rally yesterday in Michigan.
- 52:10Speaker 3: We'll see what Jared Halpern's interpretation of that was.
- 52:12Speaker 4: How did he do?
- 52:14Speaker 3: From what I could see, it looked pretty good. It's
- 52:17Speaker 3: weird because he's at a rally just before the Democrats
- 52:19Speaker 3: have their primary. I mean, Mike Rogers is already the
- 52:23Speaker 3: nominee for the Republicans, but we're trying to get more
- 52:26Speaker 3: support from Mike.
- 52:26Speaker 4: Let's go, Mike.
- 52:28Speaker 1: We gotta wain.
- 52:28Speaker 3: We got to beat whoever it is that's coming out
- 52:30Speaker 3: of the Democrats, whether it's the socialist or the lady
- 52:33Speaker 3: with the fake accent. If you haven't heard that video,
- 52:35Speaker 3: we'll play a little bit of her as well. That's comical.
- 52:37Speaker 3: She's like an SNL bit unto herself on South Carolina's
- 52:41Speaker 3: Morning News.
- 52:42Speaker 1: Live from the state Capitol.
- 52:44Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 52:49Speaker 3: All right, and good morning. It's a free after eight o'clock.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Good morning, This is Kelly Nash. I got Jared Halpern
- 52:55Speaker 3: on the phone. Good morning, sir.
- 52:57Speaker 13: Good morning to you.
- 52:58Speaker 4: This is our first conversation.
- 53:00Speaker 3: So it's an honor to have you on South Carolina's
- 53:02Speaker 3: Morning News.
- 53:03Speaker 13: Thank you for having me.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 53:05Speaker 3: Yesterday you were in Michigan with the President of the
- 53:08Speaker 3: United States. How did that trip go?
- 53:11Speaker 13: Yeah, I mean, listen, He's going to do more of
- 53:14Speaker 13: these trips, I think is he gets closer and closer
- 53:17Speaker 13: to midterm elections. Obviously, going to a place like Michigan,
- 53:21Speaker 13: he is able to talk about tariffs kind of with
- 53:25Speaker 13: the community where they are pretty popular, these auto workers,
- 53:29Speaker 13: these automakers who have benefitted from kind of forcing foreign
- 53:35Speaker 13: car makers to produce more of those vehicles here in
- 53:39Speaker 13: the US. And so he went to the General Motors
- 53:42Speaker 13: Proving Grounds, which is in Milford outside of Detroit, a
- 53:47Speaker 13: really cool facility where they test all of the cars.
- 53:50Speaker 13: They have all of these different types of terrain and tracks.
- 53:54Speaker 13: And the President along with the press, took in four
- 53:58Speaker 13: drag races, corvettes going again and stuff against each other,
- 54:01Speaker 13: an electric hummer going against an escalate. I was impressed
- 54:05Speaker 13: by how quickly both of those get up to top. Sure,
- 54:09Speaker 13: so that was fun. And then the President again giving
- 54:13Speaker 13: what was supposed to be kind of economic driven remarks.
- 54:17Speaker 13: Obviously with the President not always off prompter, and so
- 54:22Speaker 13: it was kind of wide ranging, much more of a
- 54:25Speaker 13: campaign style speech, where again he talked about the economic
- 54:29Speaker 13: benefits as he sees the tariffs in his economic policy,
- 54:33Speaker 13: talked about kind of the contrasting of Republicans against Democrats.
- 54:38Speaker 13: But you know, this is a place where if the
- 54:41Speaker 13: message is going to resonate, it would have to resonate
- 54:44Speaker 13: in a place like Michigan. You have an open Senate race,
- 54:47Speaker 13: you have a number of close house races. It is
- 54:50Speaker 13: a state really that is critical to which party is
- 54:54Speaker 13: going to control Congress for the final two years of
- 54:57Speaker 13: President Trump's term. And so I would anticipate the President
- 55:01Speaker 13: probably will not be a stranger in the great state
- 55:05Speaker 13: of Michigan between now in.
- 55:06Speaker 4: November, we're talking with Fox News.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Is Jared Halpern, who was with the President in Michigan yesterday,
- 55:12Speaker 3: the polls that I've seen, maybe you've seem different. It
- 55:15Speaker 3: appears that if Mike, well, Mike Rodgers is the GOP nominee.
- 55:19Speaker 3: But it appears that if the traditional Democrat and I'm
- 55:24Speaker 3: drawing a blank on her name, right, Hiley Steen, Haley Stevens,
- 55:27Speaker 3: the one with the fake voice. I don't know if
- 55:29Speaker 3: you've seen that video of her speaking normally and then
- 55:32Speaker 3: now she's talking like she's all Michiganda, but that's not
- 55:35Speaker 3: really who she really is. But her she would actually
- 55:39Speaker 3: probably beat Mike Rogers according to the polls, where the
- 55:43Speaker 3: Democrat socialist Abdul l said would actually lose to him.
- 55:46Speaker 3: So we're in a kind of a weird thing where
- 55:48Speaker 3: where we don't want the Democrat socialists to win, but
- 55:51Speaker 3: that would actually be the best chance for the Republican to.
- 55:53Speaker 13: Win, you know. I think regardless, it's going to be
- 55:57Speaker 13: a close race. Mike Rodgers lost the Senate race two
- 55:59Speaker 13: years ago in a very close election against a more
- 56:03Speaker 13: sort of mainstream establishment type of Republican, and so I
- 56:07Speaker 13: think the conventional wisdom is that Hailey Stevens would fare better.
- 56:12Speaker 13: I think a lot of the Democratic leaders in the
- 56:14Speaker 13: state believe that as well. Governor. The governor, Gretchen Whitmer,
- 56:18Speaker 13: who is very popular in the state, endorsed Hailey Stevens
- 56:23Speaker 13: in the primary, which was a bit of a surprise
- 56:25Speaker 13: Oftentimes governors will kind of stay out of primary races.
- 56:29Speaker 13: Kind of see how that plays out, but clear that
- 56:32Speaker 13: she believes that Hailey Stevens has a better chance against
- 56:35Speaker 13: Mike Rogers. But you're right, it is going to be
- 56:38Speaker 13: a close race, I think, regardless, there is a lot
- 56:40Speaker 13: of name recognition for somebody like Mike Rogers served in
- 56:43Speaker 13: the US House for a number of years before running
- 56:47Speaker 13: for Senate two years ago, losing in a pretty tight
- 56:50Speaker 13: race running again now and we'll see how that plays out.
- 56:53Speaker 13: I think that was another reason you saw President Trump
- 56:55Speaker 13: make that trip up to Michigan. Michigan has a very
- 56:58Speaker 13: late primary. That primary is in August. Early voting is
- 57:04Speaker 13: now under way, and so it is one of the
- 57:07Speaker 13: last kind of contests we'll see if the ascendancy of
- 57:13Speaker 13: the Democratic Socialists, the more progressive wing of the Democratic Party,
- 57:17Speaker 13: can knock off, to your point, a more establishment kind
- 57:20Speaker 13: of mainstream Democrats. This will kind of be the final
- 57:22Speaker 13: test now of the strength of the DSA.
- 57:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, they if they win there with Abdula Lsae,
- 57:28Speaker 3: there's no stop in the Bernie Bros.
- 57:30Speaker 4: They are going to roll.
- 57:33Speaker 6: I think that's right.
- 57:33Speaker 9: I mean and listen.
- 57:34Speaker 13: I think a lot of it is kind of built
- 57:36Speaker 13: upon the same thing that propelled Donald Trump, you know,
- 57:40Speaker 13: ten years ago, against a slew of more conventional mainstream Republicans.
- 57:45Speaker 13: I was covering politics then. I remember the handringing about
- 57:48Speaker 13: what's it going to mean if Donald Trump wins? Are
- 57:51Speaker 13: we going to be able to win any races as Republicans?
- 57:53Speaker 6: Right?
- 57:53Speaker 13: And obviously we know how that turned out, But it
- 57:56Speaker 13: is certainly a kind of popular extent, a kind of
- 57:59Speaker 13: the system isn't working, a frustration that kind of manifests
- 58:05Speaker 13: itself into oftentimes unconventional candidates, and you're seeing that play
- 58:09Speaker 13: out now on the Democratic side in the same way
- 58:12Speaker 13: that it has played out over the last decade or
- 58:14Speaker 13: so in some conservative circles.
- 58:16Speaker 3: Jared Halpern, we certainly appreciate making some time for us
- 58:19Speaker 3: here on South Carolina's Morning News and wish you an
- 58:21Speaker 3: awesome day over at Fox.
- 58:23Speaker 13: Thank you very much, have a great day.
- 58:25Speaker 4: You as well.
- 58:25Speaker 3: Hope to have him back on soon in the meantime, Yes,
- 58:29Speaker 3: it is the outsiders that usually have a better shot
- 58:32Speaker 3: at winning. And to his point, Donald Trump did run
- 58:35Speaker 3: as an outsider, and we have seen Barack Obama run
- 58:38Speaker 3: as an outsider. We saw Bill Clinton call himself an outsider.
- 58:41Speaker 3: You want to be on the outside and come in
- 58:44Speaker 3: and change things. The difference being with the Democrat Socialists,
- 58:47Speaker 3: as we've already heard from the co chair of the party,
- 58:50Speaker 3: they don't want to just change things. They want to
- 58:52Speaker 3: end things. They want to end things like the Senate,
- 58:54Speaker 3: the Presidency, the Supreme Court, and borders. So it's a
- 58:58Speaker 3: little bit different this time around. Anyway, we'll be back
- 59:00Speaker 3: with more. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 59:03Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Just before the top of the hour, I was talking
- 59:09Speaker 3: about how Donald Trump has a leak problem, and we
- 59:12Speaker 3: were talking about the you know, the private conversations he's
- 59:16Speaker 3: allegedly having with generals being put in the media and stuff.
- 59:19Speaker 3: But it's far worse than that. The TASNIM News Agency,
- 59:23Speaker 3: which is apparently the basically this is the you know,
- 59:28Speaker 3: it's like the Democrat Party using our media. The TASNEM
- 59:31Speaker 3: News Agency is affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
- 59:35Speaker 3: has published an AI generated video Monday which talks specifically
- 59:41Speaker 3: about quote now I can't translate it. The Daily Mail
- 59:44Speaker 3: is the one who published this. Milania's obsession with fashion
- 59:47Speaker 3: has become her biggest weakness. According to the narrator of
- 59:50Speaker 3: the video, she has a special interest in luxury department
- 59:53Speaker 3: stores on Fifth Avenue, and they start naming some of
- 59:55Speaker 3: the addresses of Bergdoff, Bergdorf, Goodman and others. These places
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: could be suitable for operations by our global freedom fighters.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: It then goes on to note that Milania has changed
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: her code name with the Secret Service. She's now using
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: Muse instead of the traditional code name Mockingbird. Also, the
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: hospitals in the areas are always contacted before she arrives,
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: so that the Secret Service can make sure that if
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: there's an incident, they will have her blood types and
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: other things. Standing by. Knowing that we have freedom fighters
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: working in all of these hospitals would be a great
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: way of eliminating the first Lady. The AI generated video
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: goes on to not only list places that she likes
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: to shop, it also talks about in order to contaminate
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: her clothes. One of our agents can use the nerve
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: agent VX. Now I don't know what that means, what
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: VX is, but according to them in the video, this
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: will kill her within two to eighteen hours. It then
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: goes on to name three of Milania's personal stylists by
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: name and says offering them large sums of money could
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: tempt these individuals.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: This is just the beginning.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: The video concludes, adding Baron Trump, just wait for us
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: your next and the video ends with both of them dead.
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: It's frightening, Kelly, what politicians and our elected officials are
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: facing these days in terms of world threats, and we
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: always see it ramp up during a conflict like this.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: I mean the George W. Bush and his family faced
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: the same thing after nine to eleven, I mean where
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: they were constantly up and down the steps to the
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: bomb shelter because they didn't know what was coming next.
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: But yeah, to go this deep into millennia of Trump
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: and her personal uses of stylists and you know, I mean,
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: she's always going to have security around her, but is
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: it ever enough? Well in the fact, and sorry, this
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: comes on the heels of you know, JD. Vance, the
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: Vice president. There was apparently a leak in his Secret
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: Service detail about his travel plans, his travel schedule. That
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: investigation's underway right now. There are already too many leaks
- 1:02:05Speaker 5: happening at the top in a time when we can't
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: afford it.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: And the story in the Daily Mail mentions that they
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: currently have several billboards throughout Tehran talking about death not
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: to Donald Trump, but the entire first family. So these
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: people are savages. They want to murder women and children,
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: and they would love to start with Milania and Baron Trump.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: That's where they go now. The indication is being given
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: by some in Tehran that this is the reason that
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: Donald Trump has backed off the last few nights that
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: they have won. This is the point where Donald Trump
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: needs to open hell on Tehran.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: I mean, he's been president now for what six years overall,
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: this is not the first time he or his family
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: have been threatened. I doubt he's made a military decision
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: based on a threat from a country exactly.
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: I don't think that he would be cowering to this.
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: But the fact that they're using this to say that
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: the reason he's backed off the last few nights is
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: because we're now naming his wife and his child, And
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: we now know the code name that she uses with
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: the Secret Service. We know the names of her stylists,
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: and we know her shopping habits, and we know the stores,
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: and we know that we can get to her. We're
- 1:03:20Speaker 3: using these types of agents on these types of clothes,
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: and we know people who work in the hospitals, specifically
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: these hospitals. This is scary stuff. But if I was
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: Donald Trump, I would unleash hell all over them. I
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: would show no mercy on Iran today. But again, that's
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: how I would handle it. How would you handle it
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: if somebody started threatening your family?
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: That way?
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: Interesting to contemplate. Thankfully, neither one of us, Christopher or
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: myself or probably you, will ever be in that position.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: But just stuff to think about. As we continue on
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: You're listening to South Carolina's Morning News with Kelly Nash.
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: Well, well, well, we started listening to it yesterday. Seventy
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: hours of audio recordings made by the then former Vice
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: president in twenty seventeen, Joe Biden were made public yesterday.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: And I'm not going to play him because it's almost incoherent.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: I will play you with snippet this is CBS news.
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: How do you say her name?
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: The lady who is the White House Correspondent Association president
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: until the other night Weaija Jang, I think is how
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: you say her name?
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: Anyway?
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: She is the CBS White House correspondent. This was her
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: report last night, well Matt.
- 1:04:34Speaker 14: The newly released audio shows that in twenty seventeen, when
- 1:04:37Speaker 14: former President Biden was writing a memoir, he told his
- 1:04:40Speaker 14: ghostwriter on several occasions that he had classified documents in
- 1:04:45Speaker 14: his possession. Biden can be heard saying, I just found
- 1:04:49Speaker 14: all the classified stuff downstairs, in reference to volumes of
- 1:04:53Speaker 14: notes Biden kept in his home. He also said some
- 1:04:57Speaker 14: of this may be classified, so be careful. Biden, who
- 1:05:00Speaker 14: fought for years to keep these recordings private, would later
- 1:05:04Speaker 14: publicly criticize President Trump for his handling of classified documents.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: We have the pot being called black right there. But
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: more importantly, I think that what is of greater interest
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: is not just the fact that Joe Biden had the
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: classified documents that he literally just found downstairs, and that
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: he was willing to share them with a ghostwriter who
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: clearly does not have classified and Joe Biden couldn't declassify
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: this unlike what the president can do. As the vice president,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: he didn't have that power. More importantly was the fact
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: that going back to twenty seventeen, Biden is showing very
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: very clear signs of cognitive decline. There is a there's
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: a moment on that tape where he doesn't say anything
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: for about two minutes. He just sits there for about
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: two minutes, and then the guy who's the ghostwriter says
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: something to him, and he's like, are we Oh, okay,
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: I'm back. And then there's another point where he's trying
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: to discuss something and then he gets himself off track
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: and he says, this is confusing me. And then an
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: assistant has to come in and I remember, sure, you
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: were talking about this, that and the other thing. So
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: going back to twenty seventeen, almost well, it is nine
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: years ago now, Joe Biden was in a state of
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: cognitive decline and that would have been obvious to anybody
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: who worked with him. So that the lie the Weekend
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: at Bernie's with Biden began literally nine years ago.
- 1:06:37Speaker 5: Kelly, it's sad to listen to, but and remember, this
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: is a ghostwriter, this is this is someone who's aiding
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: Joe Biden in writing a book. This is not a
- 1:06:47Speaker 5: deposition where you're you know, you're almost coached sometimes to
- 1:06:50Speaker 5: say I can't recall or I don't remember this is
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: this is different.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is him trying to sell some books. Yeah,
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Joe Biden like, hey, you know, I got some classified information. Pal,
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: let's get that out there into the book. Maybe we
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: can make some money off of it. I don't believe
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: that any classified information ended up in the book, if
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: I understand the reporting on that correctly. Robert her though,
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: hur not h R. He's the guy who is the
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: special counsel who in twenty twenty four said that, look,
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: I can't prosecute this guy. There's no jury in the
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: world that would want to send a guy like this
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: to prison. He doesn't know what he's talking about, basically,
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: and he was raked across the carp Are you kidding me?
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: This is the sharpest tack out there. There's nobody smarter
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: than Joe Biden. Go back to twenty seventeen and listen
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: to him for seventy hours struggle to get through these
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: interviews for somebody else to write his book. Now again,
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: it's a ghostwriter to your point, which means that Joe
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: Biden claims he wrote it himself, but the ghostwriter wrote
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: it after suffering through this interview with Joe Biden again
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: the seventy hours. I'm not going to listen to all
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: seventy hours, but the stuff I've heard is painful. That's
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: why I played her version of it. But it's nice
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: to see CBS at least reporting on the fact that
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: Joe Biden was dolling out classified documents to whomever could
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: possibly pay him a nickel. Coming up next, the current
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: Attorney General for the state of South Carolina, Alan Wilson,
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: will join South Carolina's morning.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: News, your news, traffic, weather and information stations. This is
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: South Carolina's Morning News on one O three point five FM,
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: five sixty AM WVOC, and ninety four to three WSC
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Now Kelly Nash.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: There is going to be a ton of coverage on
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: Lindsey Graham today at the Capitol, then tomorrow down here
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: at the State House, and then ultimately in Pickens County
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: late tomorrow afternoon. In the interim, South Carolina is scrambling
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: to replace Senator Lindsay Graham, who's going to get it well.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Today at noon is the last opportunity you have to
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: file if you want to run to be the next
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: Senator for South Carolina as a Republican and over. Starting
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: this weekend, we're going to be doing these things called
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: the Senate stumps. Alan Wilson, the current GOP nominee for
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: governor and the sitting Attorney General for the state of
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: South Carolina, is going to be the moderator for that.
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: I got Alan on the phone yesterday, why are you
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: Why are you hosting these things?
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: I am trying to do everything that I can to
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: provide venues and forums for the voters to be able
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: to learn about all of these new candidates for the
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: US Senate so they can make an informed decision on
- 1:09:23Speaker 6: one of those two election days because I'm going to
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: need a strong partner to run with in November.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: This is South Carolina's Morning News. So we are in
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: Columbia and we are in Charleston. We got two area
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: locations for the listeners, and we got one this Saturday
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: for people in the Columbia area.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: That's right Saturday, August the first. That's this coming Saturday.
- 1:09:43Speaker 6: We'll be in Lexington County at Riverbluff High School at
- 1:09:46Speaker 6: eleven thirty am. We have a handful of these candidates
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: already confirmed. We're still waiting on confirmations from some of
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: the others. But I will be hosting a form where
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: you will be able to get to hear from some
- 1:09:56Speaker 6: of these candidates and what their plans are if they're
- 1:09:58Speaker 6: elected to the US Senate. And the second will be
- 1:10:00Speaker 6: August six. It'll be down in Charleston at the Rifle
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: Club and that is from six to seven thirty at
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: the Rifle Club in Charleston on August six.
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: And I see on the Facebook page from the South
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: Carolina GOP that they're asking people RSVP by emailing team
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: at SCGP dot com. So again, RSVP by emailing team
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: at SCGP dot com. I don't know how this even
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: started with you, but years ago you started this thing
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: where you were basically having one on one conversations with
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: presidential candidates when they were running in the primaries in
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: South Carolina, and you did a fantastic job with that.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: This is going to be a little bit different though,
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: because it's not one on one. It's like controlled chaos.
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: These will not be debates. I'm not going to have
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: everyone up there on stage, so there will be sanctioned
- 1:10:48Speaker 6: debates for the US Senate. These are going to be
- 1:10:51Speaker 6: basically opportunities for me to ask questions on behalf of
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: the crowd. And obviously we will take questions from the crowd.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: Is this like a Phil Donahue thing where you're going
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: to be reaching out with the microphone or.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: We will probably take questions that I will ask. I
- 1:11:05Speaker 6: will be the one facilitating the questions. We won't be
- 1:11:09Speaker 6: having to Phil Donahue or the Herado Rivera where you
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: get into a shouting match or someone gets up there
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: and filibuster is a question, because we want to move
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: when we have each of these candidates for such a
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: short period of time, and you know in the past
- 1:11:22Speaker 6: there are people that get up there and they talk
- 1:11:23Speaker 6: for five minutes and somewhere buried in there is a question.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: We need to be able to give people the questions
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: quickly and give as much time as possible to the candidates.
- 1:11:32Speaker 6: And so my intent will be to have a conversation
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: that will allow you to hear from the candidate for
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: the Senate more than the person asking the question.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: The first one again, is this Saturday, Like you said
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: to Helen, this thing is moving very quickly so Saturday
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: morning at eleven thirty, you're going to get a bunch
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: of candidates at the River Bluff High School. And again
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: you should respond by sending an RSVP to team at
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: scgop dot com. And then you're going to have another
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: one in Charleston.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: When is that again?
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: That is August six, from six to seven point thirty
- 1:12:03Speaker 6: at the Rifle Club.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: And again you would email team at SCGOP if you'd
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: like to go to the one in Charleston as well.
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: All right, we're gonna see I we can squeeze in
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: a little snippet of our interview with former Governor Sandford
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: coming up. This is South Carolina's Morning News.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning News on one O three
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: point five FM and five sixty AM WVOC, Columbia and
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: ninety four to three WSC Charleston.
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: Now Kelly Nash currently just on what three point five
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: FM in Colombia as we continue to have problems with
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: the AM transmitter here, but thank you to the iHeartRadio app.
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: You can still hear us on WVOC or on ninety
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: four three WSC Charleston.
- 1:12:45Speaker 4: In the meantime.
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: Yesterday, the former governor of South Carolina Mark Sandford called
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: in talking about his new campaign to run for the Senate.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: I started the recording right after he. You know, I said,
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: I hope you're doing great, and he said, well, not
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: as good as you.
- 1:12:59Speaker 9: I'm hanging in there.
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: Come on, man, only one.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Of us has a chance of being the next Senator
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: from South Carolina.
- 1:13:06Speaker 12: Well, all in want of us has a well acclaimed
- 1:13:08Speaker 12: you know, radio show in podcast thing going, so you know,
- 1:13:12Speaker 12: we get all levels out.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: You were a little bit later than some of the
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: other candidates getting in. Was there a reason why you
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: waited just a couple of days longer.
- 1:13:22Speaker 9: Well, there's a little bit of fear interrepidation, so it
- 1:13:24Speaker 9: goes with this.
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: But really you.
- 1:13:26Speaker 9: Talk about a daunting task in terms of time to
- 1:13:30Speaker 9: begin to build a team and get organized.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: Had you in your mind kind of decided that you
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: were going to be done with politics until this opening
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: appeared totally, you.
- 1:13:40Speaker 9: Know, I should ask me two weeks ago was this
- 1:13:43Speaker 9: even a remote possibility. I would have sort of laughed,
- 1:13:45Speaker 9: and you would have laughed too. But this whole thing
- 1:13:48Speaker 9: has come up out of left field. But we are
- 1:13:50Speaker 9: where we are, and I believe so strongly, and my
- 1:13:55Speaker 9: fears on the financial trajectory of our federal government that
- 1:13:59Speaker 9: I've gotten.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking with Mark Sandford. You have always been
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: a legendary fiscal hawk. There has been nobody sounding the
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: alarm louder than you when it comes to the national debt.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: And when you go to your page Mark Sandford dot com,
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: you give the record of results, and you've got an
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: impressive history on cutting spending. At the same time, when
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: you look at your issues page, there's more issues than
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: just the national debt and the deficit and all this
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: sort of stuff, which again is crushing. And when you
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: look at Mark Sandford dot com you'll see how it
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: factors into defense, healthcare, social security, immigration, so on, and
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: so forth. When I look at the Heritage Foundation and
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: their rankings, one of the things that a lot of
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: South Carolinians had pointed out was that Lindsey Graham usually
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: came in with a moderate score. He wasn't considered very conservative.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: I think this lifetime average was like in the sixties
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: or something. He got like a seventy six for the
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: last session. What about you as a senator would be
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: maybe the same as Lindsay Graham and or different than
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Lindsay Graham well.
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: I mean he certainly got, you know, big shoes to
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: fill in terms of representing the state. I mean, you know,
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: if you look back since nineteen fifty four, they've been
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: two senators, and Strong in his way and Lindsay and
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: his way. I think certainly did there, you know, perform
- 1:15:21Speaker 9: their role in watching out for the state, and it
- 1:15:23Speaker 9: would be no different for me. I'm not unaware of
- 1:15:26Speaker 9: the responsibility to go with representing a certain part of
- 1:15:31Speaker 9: the country. And again, I think I've demonstrated that in
- 1:15:35Speaker 9: working governorship and work in Congress. But the reason I'm
- 1:15:41Speaker 9: talking about the dead is all this other sort of
- 1:15:43Speaker 9: fades away if you don't get that part right. I
- 1:15:46Speaker 9: would feed the point that the responsibility to go with
- 1:15:49Speaker 9: the office. I'm not in any way unaware of those. Yes,
- 1:15:53Speaker 9: I think I would be a good steward in the office,
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: but I would as well be an incredibly mighty advocate
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: on behalf of people's pocketbooks and wallets that have been
- 1:16:05Speaker 9: forgotten about it in Washington, DC.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: And we had about fifteen minutes with the former governor
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: Mark Sandford. If you'd like to hear all of it,
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: you can look for it. I've posted it on my
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: social media pages at Kelley Nash Radio and Christopher Thompson
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: and I were talking about that earlier. I've not received
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: as much feedback on a conversation as that one because
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: Mark Sandford is basically a very divisive person in this state.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: Apparently, christ well, a lot of people remember the way
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: you know, he operated. I mean, people remember the trip
- 1:16:35Speaker 5: to Argentina and the Appalachian Trail. But I think I
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: think he's put a lot of history in between himself
- 1:16:41Speaker 5: and that, including you know, a separate trip to Congress
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: and ran for several seats since then. My only question
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: about Mark Sandford at this point is, you know, are
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: you in it to win it? Because you know, he
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: was again running for Congress down in the low Country
- 1:16:59Speaker 5: and then suddenly stepped out of the race and really
- 1:17:02Speaker 5: didn't give much of a reason why other than he
- 1:17:04Speaker 5: said he was through with politics. So I know you
- 1:17:07Speaker 5: asked him about that. It's just it it makes you wonder.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: You don't want somebody you're going to elect who then decides,
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: you know, a couple of years in well, this isn't
- 1:17:17Speaker 5: really for me anymore.
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: I hadn't considered him, you know, kind of mid term,
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: you know, resigning. But I also recognize there are the
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: Ralph Norman crew believe, and I say crew, I shouldn't
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: say anybody in an official capacity. What I'm seeing from
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: the Ralph Norman followers is that they believe he's just
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: trying to spend up whatever money he has left in
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: his campaign fund to employ some of his former you know,
- 1:17:46Speaker 3: the people who are good to Mark Sanford in his career.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: He's got this money that's been left over in a
- 1:17:50Speaker 3: campaign account. That's all this is about. They want him
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: to get out and endorse Ralph Norman. That's where That's
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: where they are.
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: So there are questions about his amitment, just in different ways.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: In different ways exactly, I believe after speaking with him,
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: and again, like I said, I went about fifteen mens
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: with him, I think he's completely earnest in this since
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: it's an opportunity that no one expected to be presented.
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: He has been energized, Kelly since he decided to enter
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: this race, even before he filed yesterday. I mean, he's
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: been all over the campaign trail these last few days,
- 1:18:23Speaker 5: so I'll give him credit for that. He seems to
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: be fully in it to win it.
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: Yeah, And I was trying to get him to say
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: he would be a big difference between him and Lindsey
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: Graham as far as the fiscal policy, because Lindsay Graham
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: usually came down as a very moderate person on physical policy.
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: Obviously that would not be Sandford's position. His number one
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: issue and almost his only issue, is cutting the national
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: debt and the deficit and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: But if you want to hear the whole thing, like
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: I said, it's on my social media pages, or just
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: look for the National Briefing on the iHeart Radio app.
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: All right, back with one more break. This is the
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: South Carolina Morning.
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: News from the Midlands to the low Country.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: This is South Carolina's Morning US on one O three
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: point five FM at five sixty am WVOC and ninety
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: four to three WSC. Now here's Kelly Nash.
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: Short time ago, I got an email from Taylor Reedy,
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: who is the communications director for Lindsey Graham, basically talking
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: about the funeral services tomorrow. It's first come, first served
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: at the First Baptist Church tomorrow. Doors will open at
- 1:19:25Speaker 3: ten am, the service will begin at noon. That is
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: a clear bag policy in order to get in. Also,
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: the funeral services will begin with a final visit to
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: the State House at ten forty five. The public is
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: invited to pay their respects along the procession route making
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: their way to First Baptist and there will be a
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: flyover an F sixteen flyover via the one hundred and
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: sixty ninth Fighter Wing for McIntyre Joint National Guard Base
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: at approximately eleven am. So I've posted this up on
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: our social media pages. I'll get it up on all
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: of them. Christopher, I hope you have an awesome day.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: I hope you do as well. Kelly, thank you and
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: We'll see you all tomorrow morning for South Carolina's morning
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: News
