- 1:00All right, Josh, start us off with Part 2 of the top 10
- 1:03trades. Off If you haven't listened to
- 1:05Part 1, go listen to that first and then come listen to this.
- 1:08Yeah, exactly. But it's not good for Part B.
- 1:12Wait, Harde. The goal of the part and.
- 1:17This happened last time we recorded.
- 1:19We should, we should, we should title the episode Part A and
- 1:22Part B. Yeah, yeah, literally.
- 1:25Alright, this is gonna be a fun episode for Habs fans like us.
- 1:29So, diving into the first of the second-half of the top ten,
- 1:34we've got Montreal Canadiens acquire Noah Dobson from the
- 1:37Islanders for #16 and 17 in the 25 draft, and Emil Heineman.
- 1:43Let's go. Huge.
- 1:45Amazing. I love.
- 1:46It yeah, this is me too. Real life, real life wise, this
- 1:50is so hyper the Habs. I love him and I thought he was
- 1:53a great role player, but we essentially and like obviously
- 1:55two first round picks is something in the future, but in
- 1:58terms of our team this year versus last year, this trade
- 2:01just added us an essential top one defenseman for free, right.
- 2:06If we're looking at just just last year's team versus this
- 2:08year's coming team, that's pretty much what we did so it's.
- 2:12Pretty exciting for the Habs. NHL like hopes it's let's go.
- 2:17This is my this is my reaction for the fantasy.
- 2:20Oh no. Yeah, exactly.
- 2:24So alright, let's talk about it specifically.
- 2:26First, we'll talk about the main piece of the trade, which is
- 2:28Dobson. So in my opinion, I think this
- 2:31is pretty brutal for his fantasy value.
- 2:34Last year he had a rough year in New York.
- 2:37He actually lost power play onto Tony D'Angelo, and then they
- 2:41resigned D'Angelo to another deal.
- 2:42But honestly, like I wasn't worried.
- 2:44Like if you stayed on the Islanders, I thought he was
- 2:46going to bounce back and take that power play swap.
- 2:48Like I wasn't too worried about like D'Angelo was clearly like a
- 2:50stopgap. Like if they had kept him, it
- 2:52clearly was like Dobsons our future.
- 2:53You know, they would have resigned him to a big thing in
- 2:55this offseason. And I thought he would bounce
- 2:57back. But now coming to the Habs,
- 2:59there's zero chance he's getting power play one because we have
- 3:01the goat lane Hudson, you know, so there's no power play one for
- 3:05him. So that's a massive loss.
- 3:07He's like a guy who like contributes a bit in bangers,
- 3:11but like that was always a bonus to his great point season.
- 3:14But once he if he doesn't have the point, he's not really worth
- 3:16having on your team, in my opinion.
- 3:17I'd say his one kind of hope is the Habs have never really split
- 3:22their P time in the past. It's always been power play 1 is
- 3:24the main one and then sometimes power play 2 comes out like a
- 3:27like most teams that have a single power play, that's their
- 3:29main one. But with this trade and another
- 3:32trade we're gonna talk about later in this episode, I think
- 3:34we have a pretty solid power play too squad.
- 3:36So they might even out the time a bit more.
- 3:39And that would be his only hope for value in my opinion.
- 3:43I feel like we can expect a kind of like what Matheson was giving
- 3:46us from P2 last year. Like the points are
- 3:50inconsistent. It's probably like around like
- 3:52.55 point 6. He'll probably be pretty decent
- 3:57for for blocks I like, but I wouldn't he's not like elite at
- 4:01it either. So I feel like All in all
- 4:03definitely like really impacts his fantasy value without the P1
- 4:07time. But honestly for the Habs, I
- 4:09like it because you know, if Hudson goes down, we have
- 4:12another guy can step in right away, which is always nice to
- 4:14have. We've seen other teams, you
- 4:16know, when the P defenseman goes down, they're struggling to find
- 4:19somebody else. I can run the power play.
- 4:20So that's really good and I just feel like it makes us so much
- 4:24better. And I, I just think Dobson is a
- 4:28really good right-handed defenseman.
- 4:30And I, I don't think we would split the PB time into to be
- 4:34honest, like I don't, I don't see that for us in our future.
- 4:36Let's say so. Power Play 1.
- 4:38Year maybe 2 gets better. Yeah, that is like the power
- 4:41play one is gonna be Suzuki Caulfield slash Hudson and then
- 4:45I don't know if you guys think Demidoff taking lining spot
- 4:47you're flying jobs. I think so.
- 4:49It'll be one of them too, so that'll be the top one.
- 4:51And that leaves for number 2. I think they'll go to Defence
- 4:54Minute and do Dobson Matheson. Um, it'll be lining slash
- 4:57Demidov, whichever ones not on power play one new hook and I
- 5:01think it's gonna be Bolduc. We're gonna discuss later in
- 5:03this episode and that's a pretty solid power play unit.
- 5:05So actually, if they do well, like I could see them going.
- 5:08I don't think it's gonna be a full split ever, but I could see
- 5:11it getting closer to like a 6040, you know, like I don't.
- 5:14Know because The thing is we don't.
- 5:17I think the power plays get split time with it depends who's
- 5:20starting on the ice because whatever happens is usually you
- 5:23send the first unit out and then whenever the puck leaves the
- 5:27zone after a minute has passed, they they swapped the units
- 5:30usually, right? Yeah.
- 5:31So the only way that the power play time really gets split is
- 5:34if they're sending the second unit out first, which I can
- 5:36never see happening unless like the whole first unit was on the
- 5:39ice right before, you know what I mean?
- 5:41Yeah, but I still like it for in terms of a P2, I think it's
- 5:46probably one of the better ones around the league.
- 5:48Like stop in my head, I can't think of any situation that's
- 5:50like off the bat already better than this, besides teams that
- 5:53are like splitting they're they're people units into.
- 5:56But other than that, All in all, Dobson doesn't have much value
- 6:01because it's AP 2. Overdrafted this year in
- 6:04fantasy. I think his ADP tanks, but I
- 6:06don't think tanks enough to wear to match what I think is output
- 6:09is going to be. This with the full of Habs fans.
- 6:13We just sit and watch someone else taking way too highly
- 6:15right. Yeah.
- 6:16I mean you're gonna draft him like 3 rounds ahead of ADP
- 6:18because you're right. Zero chance.
- 6:20Is there like a world where people start under drafting
- 6:24Hudson because of? This no, no.
- 6:27I don't think so. You just want the Calder.
- 6:29Like, there's just no chance. Like, if it was like Superstar,
- 6:32yeah, if you didn't have as much of an unreal season as last
- 6:34year, then I can see your argument.
- 6:36And also if Dobson had a better year last year than he did, I
- 6:39could see it. But the way things stand,
- 6:40there's just no question that Hudson is power play.
- 6:43Because I I see Dobson kind of like a Morgan Riley, like he's
- 6:46he's has a lot of fantasy value because he has the P1 exposure,
- 6:50but he's not the best when he's not getting power play things.
- 6:54But we've seen like him also have games where like, you know,
- 6:56he shoots a bunch or he gets like A5 block game and you're
- 6:59like, wow. But obviously not something you
- 7:01can rely on. Not consistent.
- 7:03Yeah, in fantasy power play, 1 defenseman are our king.
- 7:07And if you're not, if you don't have one of those spots, then
- 7:10you're valuing is extremely diminished.
- 7:12Yeah, exactly. You got to be a banger.
- 7:14So yeah, maybe he might like. I like what you mentioned with
- 7:18the blocks. I feel like Savard was a crazy
- 7:21block guy and he retired now. So the Habs, you know, they are
- 7:24just the way they're built. They take a lot of shots
- 7:26against. So, you know, a defenseman will
- 7:28get more blocks. I wonder if you think this has a
- 7:31positive impact on, you know, just in general, let's say like
- 7:34our top. Forward.
- 7:35To having another offensive defenseman, like even strength
- 7:38wise, yeah um, just help them. Out more breakdowns benefit the
- 7:42benefit. The 5V5 numbers probably get
- 7:45significantly better because we have better players on the ice
- 7:48to feed our good players. Yeah, exactly.
- 7:52You know, I really think this boosts the most is Montalbo.
- 7:57Yeah. Like I actually like I saw like
- 8:00a thing that he was one of the best goalies in goals saved
- 8:03above expected this year. And like, you're now adding an
- 8:05elite IRL defensemen and getting like Hudson and Julie, who are
- 8:09just older and better and carry a full year, you know, like.
- 8:14Matheson's. This is Matheson.
- 8:16Still really solid decor like balance of everything.
- 8:19I think Montana boat should be rostered, drafted everywhere in
- 8:25every league for sure and like he could he could be like the
- 8:30best 0G strategy for this year. Like truthfully, if you decide.
- 8:35It's so fun. Yeah, like if you get them like
- 8:37outside of the top 12 rounds and you're like picking forwards or
- 8:41defensemen in your first 12, like I think I'd be really happy
- 8:44with him being my #1 goalie. Like I seriously think the hubs
- 8:47are going to be amazing. And you're right, we will
- 8:50probably have a lot of shots on us just because we are still
- 8:53youngish team, but and just the fact that you can like minimize
- 8:57the quality, like you have better quality shots on you,
- 9:01like it'll be easier for him to save it.
- 9:03That's what I mean. So I think that there's gonna be
- 9:05huge for him. And you're right, though, I
- 9:07agree with everything you guys are saying with regards to
- 9:09Dobson's value not being nearly what it was on the Islanders.
- 9:13Not that there's really much going on there either right now
- 9:15because the guys, they are rookies.
- 9:17But I guess we could just say that D'Angelo is now pretty much
- 9:20stapled on that Power Player 1. And is there any chance that
- 9:23Schaefer just jumps in right off the bat?
- 9:26There's a chance I think though. Yeah, I know.
- 9:30I actually cause D'Angelo is like a specialist.
- 9:32It's not as if he's like a good defenseman or.
- 9:35No, he's good at scoring on his own net though.
- 9:39Excells at that actually. Yeah, but I don't know, I'm not
- 9:43as big of a of a fan of of, you know, like them taking him off
- 9:48that like, I don't think it's gonna work.
- 9:49But regardless, I don't know. I mean, you're right.
- 9:52This is gonna be a very interesting year.
- 9:55I wouldn't drive Dobson either, so.
- 9:57Would you drive Dobson ahead of the Angelo?
- 9:59Yes, I wouldn't. Really.
- 10:02I just think that Dobson's not gonna get like, he's not someone
- 10:05I want on my team, you know? Like he's not gonna get you the.
- 10:08He's gonna do like a bit of every. 3 Kevin.
- 10:10Great at it with D'Angelo. For ones.
- 10:14One either on my team. OK, Dobson or Devante caves.
- 10:19Dobson Oh OK it's the same thing though.
- 10:22Like I saw someone compare they were like Dobson is going to be
- 10:25Hudsons Devante caves to. The car, yeah.
- 10:30You know we gotta move on to the next OK acquisition.
- 10:34Montalbo, or. No, no, we have to step to the
- 10:37dolphins and that's my rule. No, no, we'll just one for month
- 10:41to month. Fine.
- 10:41One table or the second guy from the Leafs tandem?
- 10:46Mondomo. Wonderful, yeah.
- 10:48Yeah, I would say numbers. I actually think that's a good
- 10:51blanket statement that I would rather Montalbo over any tandem
- 10:55goalie this year. But the the least time is
- 10:57special because they're supposed to be technically better.
- 11:00Actually, I think they'll Marner loss is a big one, but let's not
- 11:03dive into all that, you know, that's a whole other bucket of
- 11:05kind of worms or whatever. But I agree with Jake, I would
- 11:08take Montano. Yeah, I really think it's gonna
- 11:10boost his value tremendously. Yeah.
- 11:13And actually or while we're folk.
- 11:17What do you do are. You going?
- 11:18That was my. Third one, we have gone so far.
- 11:21What lost? Every day we stray further away
- 11:23from the. Light.
- 11:24Exactly. I guess.
- 11:27I guess this does hurt Sorokin's value a bit too.
- 11:29Yes. That's one other thing to
- 11:30mention because he is like, look like defensemen are not as
- 11:33relevant for fantasy as forwards is not as cut and dry.
- 11:35Of course, Power Player 1, as we've spoken about, is one
- 11:37thing, but the way that they do have the secondary implications
- 11:41like Islanders are gonna be worse and.
- 11:43It's gonna be 1 of the worst teams.
- 11:45Yeah. Yeah, Yeah, it is true.
- 11:48Yeah. OK, let's move on to the second.
- 11:50Trade right? This is not that fantasy
- 11:53relevant but it's so crazy I had.
- 11:55To It's like a finally moment, but like where you could have
- 11:59happened, yeah. Detroit Red Wings acquire John
- 12:02Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks for Peter Mrazik, a fourth round
- 12:06pick and a second round pick. I'm so glad I've been holding
- 12:08all my John Gibson years. Given the notches finally over,
- 12:12it's been like 5 years of him being guaranteed traded at the
- 12:15deadline. Yeah, this is this is how it
- 12:18ends up. The biggest thing that this
- 12:21tells me is just Dust style is gonna be like a great pick for
- 12:25fantasy next year. I think he's gonna be one of
- 12:27those like, you know. He's one of my 0D targets.
- 12:30Yeah, exactly. I feel he'll be drafted as like
- 12:32the goalie #20 or 25, and he'll be better than his draft value
- 12:37because those goalies always end up being better than the draft
- 12:40value. Yeah.
- 12:41You know, we mentioned, we mentioned in part A of this how
- 12:45exactly how the Ducks were kind of like the Habs, but one year
- 12:49removed and I could see Dostal getting the year that Montano
- 12:52just had. Yeah, exactly.
- 12:53Yeah. Yeah, I think he's gonna be
- 12:56good, but. And he just got like, which is
- 12:58like, yeah. I was gonna say that that's the
- 13:01reason why I'm certain that he's gonna just, I'm not that
- 13:04moralistic, some great goalie or anything, but he's been a pretty
- 13:07solid one being his career or 1A.
- 13:09But I do think it's like there's gonna be a clear one and two
- 13:11with the small. And yeah, he got just signed to
- 13:14a 5 * 6.5 mil contract and as I always say follow the money
- 13:20pointing that for this new. Season followed the moolah.
- 13:23So do we think that Gibson's gonna be the for sure #1?
- 13:27Here, yes, I think his only competition is gonna be good old
- 13:31Cam Talbot. Is it gonna be good, though,
- 13:34Gibson? I don't know.
- 13:35I don't. I like Detroit.
- 13:37I like Detroit, decent enough team like like they're.
- 13:41Probably middle of the back, yeah, I think taking steps
- 13:45backwards. I don't think their rebuild is
- 13:47going properly. Or no, I think they messed up.
- 13:49I think, yeah, I don't think they're being the GM's doing a
- 13:52very good job. And I just think if you look at
- 13:54their division, like who's who are they better than in the
- 13:57division? Like, there's no way they're not
- 13:59better than Florida, Tampa, Toronto, Habs, right?
- 14:03Ottawa, Ottawa. It's yeah, exactly.
- 14:08And if you're in the same conversation as Buffalo, then
- 14:10you know that's not a team interested in.
- 14:14Yeah, but I think better than Boston.
- 14:16That's what I was gonna say. Like who would you rather?
- 14:18Swim. Yeah, but that's not that's not
- 14:19a high statement either. And I'm definitely betting on
- 14:21boss and having a bounce back this year as opposed to 30.
- 14:25I don't know how old Gibson is now, but leading the Detroit Red
- 14:29Wings to the playoffs? I think, look, Gibson's gonna be
- 14:33one of those volume starters on a bad team.
- 14:36So if you need if you need that. Like it's gonna be what Tom
- 14:38Talbot or or Marzik was this last year.
- 14:41Yes, exactly, except with less like splitting starts.
- 14:43I think he'll get a higher share of the.
- 14:45Start if you guys. Yeah, that's true.
- 14:47He is a bit injury prone and he needs to play well enough.
- 14:50Like they do wanna make the playoffs.
- 14:52They're not going to, but they're trying to, so they're
- 14:54gonna go over playing better. I put them in that boat where
- 14:56it's like the goal is gonna get like 30 saves but let in five
- 15:00goals and that's what's going to be like in a saves league.
- 15:03I guess that's that can be more valuable than other leagues, but
- 15:06he'll just tanker save percentage is my my opinion.
- 15:09Yeah. So my take away from this is
- 15:11pretty much the biggest thing is that it affects Dostal and how
- 15:14he's gonna become great. But I'm not like running to pick
- 15:17up Gibson or anything. After after all this though, is
- 15:19that is it kind of feels sad to talk about Gibson this way.
- 15:22Like I know. All the all these trade
- 15:24deadlines with him on our roster stashed on IR waiting.
- 15:28For should have been in Edmonton.
- 15:30That was we all knew that it should have been some trade
- 15:32deadline in the last three years.
- 15:34He goes to Edmonton, they like have a crazy cup run.
- 15:37You know, like he was the he would have been the missing
- 15:39piece for them. He was such a good goalie for so
- 15:41long and that's exactly what Edmonton needed and he was on
- 15:43the chopping block. It made too much sense move but
- 15:45they they decided to sign I. Mean Edmonton made 2000 back
- 15:49without him. Yeah.
- 15:51So does he take them over the edge?
- 15:53I don't know. I mean, Skinner was bipolar
- 15:57playoffs. He was either the worst goalie
- 15:59ever or got a shut out. Yeah, you can't.
- 16:02You can't win the Cup with a guy who could show up and be the
- 16:04worst goalie ever. It's true.
- 16:07There's just like something about the fact that Kane is
- 16:09still there that like makes me feel like they may not be as bad
- 16:13as we think they're going to be another.
- 16:15That's like some reasonable indicator by any means.
- 16:17But he could have probably gone to like a contender and he's
- 16:20just like, Nah, I'm gonna send Troy and I'm.
- 16:21Like, isn't he like from Detroit or am I making that up at the
- 16:26very? Least I think is from the area
- 16:27I. Think from the area and like I
- 16:29think he likes playing with the bracket so.
- 16:31And also, do you think his move his family again?
- 16:33And I think that's just a, yeah, a big deal.
- 16:36Anyways, let's move on to the next one.
- 16:39Another Habs one for just for you guys.
- 16:41There's exciting. Yeah, this is another exciting
- 16:441. The Haves acquire Zach Bolduc
- 16:47from Saint Louis for Logan Mayu. Crazy Yeah, is cooking.
- 16:54I was not happy about this at first.
- 16:57I was just like oh like yeah just at 1st at first cuz.
- 17:00Sounds of PTSD. Well, it's because when I
- 17:05remember when we picked Mayo like there was the.
- 17:08The whole fell. From reason, like yeah, he fell
- 17:11and then he kinda just like like was supposed to be picked
- 17:16higher. And then I didn't realize that
- 17:17Bulldog was actually picked in the mid first round of that
- 17:19year. That seems.
- 17:20So I looked more into it and like he's a big body and he
- 17:23could play centre, which is really, really nice to see.
- 17:27I'd be shocked though if you play centre.
- 17:28Why, yeah, he's not gonna play centre.
- 17:30He's just been practicing his face off so that he could be
- 17:33like the secondary option for like left like wings, like face
- 17:36offs or stuff like that. Who's like look, I mean,
- 17:38obviously Suzukis are number one guy and.
- 17:40Then he asked for sure gonna come to.
- 17:41The house like doctor New look. It's gonna be dark until he
- 17:45either gets injured or just proves he can't do it, in which
- 17:48case we'll have to make a trade. But I mean, look like he's 22,
- 17:52right? Like the?
- 17:53He said he hasn't played centre since he was 17.
- 17:57Oh yeah. That's that's a bit of a that's
- 18:00a bit of a problem nevertheless, like I think that would be like
- 18:03the best, best case scenario. But even if he is still like a
- 18:08winger, I mean it adds depth. I mean, for fantasy, I feel like
- 18:12if he played centre at this point, it would be worse for his
- 18:15fantasy value because he's gonna have a lot more responsibility
- 18:17and he's also gonna be like learning to be responsible and
- 18:20that probably hinders his offensive capabilities.
- 18:22Whereas him playing as a winger, like you can just focus on
- 18:25hitting people and digging shots and scoring goals.
- 18:28Yeah, we'll snipe celly boys. It's just like, I'm really
- 18:33excited about this. I was also sad to see my you
- 18:35leave because, you know, he's been a guy in a prospect pool
- 18:37that was highly regarded as well.
- 18:39But we just have so many defensemen.
- 18:40I don't think it was room for him and just swap him for like,
- 18:43oh, winger of similar value that we've already seen as proven in
- 18:47the NHL. Like last year, he played fourth
- 18:50fourth line minutes and was producing at way above the rate
- 18:54that he should have for how many minutes he was getting.
- 18:56Yeah, I've got some specific figures.
- 19:00Montgomery got hired. I think it was November 15th or
- 19:02November 25th of last year. Um Bolduc had .34 goals per
- 19:07game. Which is goal raising goals, not
- 19:12exactly goals per game. He was on a 30 goal like season
- 19:16pace since the new coach hire and if you were following along
- 19:19towards the end of like after the Four Nations, like how Saint
- 19:22Louis was on a terrible, Duke was a key piece of that.
- 19:24He absolutely was. The top line is set though.
- 19:27Like the top line is set for sure for the Habs, then line 2
- 19:31Demidov is there for sure. And Duke and Doc is going to be
- 19:34the. Start low key centre.
- 19:37I don't think so. No, no, but, but that's like,
- 19:41that's why I'm just like if line a becomes line again, which
- 19:47we'll. See, that's not happening.
- 19:48I'm sorry. So if we're totally writing
- 19:51offline, then OK, it'll be Bolduc Demanov.
- 19:54But let's say Liona becomes with who they want them to be and he
- 19:57actually makes a name for himself.
- 19:58Stay second line left wing. Then what?
- 20:01Then it's gonna be line a doc demo, right?
- 20:04And Bulldog just gets buried on line 3.
- 20:06So that's why I'm like if you. Place centre than at least like
- 20:10I mean doc is not proven. He gets, I wouldn't wanna force
- 20:13somebody to play centre of they can't play centre though.
- 20:15Yeah. And like I think, yeah, I think
- 20:16our management is doing a good job at like not forcing pieces
- 20:19if they're not there. Like, yeah, we've been talking
- 20:22about filling up this 2C void the whole season, leaving last
- 20:26year. Like the management, they said
- 20:29they're not gonna rush it. They said they knew the market
- 20:31was really bad. They don't want to overpay for
- 20:33someone. They're like, look, this year
- 20:34we're gonna go in with Doc. We're gonna see what we have.
- 20:36If he doesn't work out, then next offseason or throughout
- 20:39during the season we'll make a trade to make something.
- 20:41Happen and that's the way you should go about it like don't
- 20:44you can't you can't force the situation if it's not there
- 20:46because you can first of all ruin the asset that you do have
- 20:48and it just brings complications further along the line.
- 20:51I think we should just probably get like a lower level like
- 20:55veteran that like is just looking for an extra chance.
- 20:58Like if we had got like a close would have been perfect.
- 21:00You know what I mean? Like a rhino.
- 21:02Right up until he doesn't like exactly Hagen.
- 21:05Devorah came back. I mean he's like a perfect third
- 21:07line but I feel like you could have sought if doc screws.
- 21:10So we can talk about the Habs all day, but let's talk about
- 21:13the actual fantasy impacts for this.
- 21:15So for Bolduc specifically, he actually like before this trade,
- 21:19he was going to be one of my sleeper picks for next year.
- 21:21I thought he could have like a sneaky breakout season.
- 21:23He was insane. He was like such a good like end
- 21:26to the season. He was scoring a ton.
- 21:28Saint Louis had a split power play and he was on one of the
- 21:30power play and so he had like great deployment, but after this
- 21:33trade I really have kind of and he was getting 1.5 hits per game
- 21:35by the way. So he's also banging.
- 21:37But after this trade, I kind of have like no real desire to have
- 21:40him on my team because same reason as Dobson, right?
- 21:43He's just not gonna crack power play one.
- 21:44There's no chance. And the only way that you know,
- 21:48I see it him being valuable is if the same as we talked about
- 21:52with Dobson, if we think the power play 2 is strong enough
- 21:54that it forces more of a split, then I could see him having
- 21:57value. But otherwise I'm not like I
- 21:59just hate having guys who are not power play 1 unless they're
- 22:02pure banger guys. That's kind of like how I like,
- 22:04I think. He can still have value even if
- 22:06he's not a pure banger guy though.
- 22:08Yeah, yeah. Like, I think he'll do a bit of
- 22:10everything, but I'm much less excited about him than I was
- 22:14before the trade. That's fair, that's fair.
- 22:18I guess the best place he'll be drafted is in leagues with Saint
- 22:22Louis Blues fans. Good.
- 22:26What do you mean? Because we just over half sense
- 22:29overhype all our. Own place, that's what I'm.
- 22:30Saying like he'll fall more than you should and then you could
- 22:32actually get some value, but now like he'll be dropped it too
- 22:34high. Because yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:35OK, now I see what you're saying.
- 22:36Yeah, yeah. That's what.
- 22:37OK. Would you?
- 22:38Would you rather? Would you rather buildup or
- 22:42Logan Cooley who's on P2? Cooley.
- 22:45Cooley, yeah, no, Cooley is like a a legit, legit like elite guy.
- 22:49Yeah, I I think Cooley ceilings in tremendous, whereas Bulldog
- 22:52could be good. Also, like Cooley has a shot at
- 22:54power play 1, Bolduc doesn't. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:57Boluk or Jonathan Huberdeau I'm. I'm I'm not touching Hooper
- 23:03though. He's he's cooked.
- 23:05I I guess like, I guess bolduc. Yeah, but I don't particularly
- 23:08want either on my team, to be honest.
- 23:10Yeah. Boldur, Cutter Gautier.
- 23:14Go to, go to yeah, yeah, because I think he's.
- 23:16Just because there's more room for him to be the guy there.
- 23:20But I think, I think Bolduc like severely outpaces him in all the
- 23:23back categories like shots, hits, everything else and then
- 23:27this is the points difference could make up for that.
- 23:29I don't know. And the shot difference and.
- 23:32Everything. Yeah.
- 23:32It's one of those things that go there will just be more flashy,
- 23:35but I think Bolduc like could actually you're right, like
- 23:38over. No, no, we had three Kevin.
- 23:40Yeah. Fine, for me Barbashev is like
- 23:44if he's on line one I would take him, if not I have no interest.
- 23:47Yeah. So I find, yeah, I don't know, I
- 23:51find like the the best case, like I said, centre, but it's
- 23:53probably not gonna happen going the other way.
- 23:55Yes. Evander, you mayu just.
- 24:01This is addicted to what you rather.
- 24:04Literally. Well, like a teenager at, like,
- 24:07their first party, yeah. No, totally supposed to be like
- 24:13this. Yeah, so my you like could
- 24:16actually be a very good IRL defenseman and.
- 24:19He's yes. Like.
- 24:20He's really offensive. That's why I was like, it was
- 24:23sad. Not because I don't think
- 24:24Bullocks a decent return, just because it's like I thought that
- 24:27like, I mean, maybe should have been drafted higher than he was.
- 24:29Yeah. And now he's on a team with like
- 24:33a bunch of other good defensemen.
- 24:34He also seems to be buried there to be honest.
- 24:37But. Not their defensemen are like
- 24:39weird because they're all old and aging or like not offensive.
- 24:42Yes, exactly. I kind of like it for him a lot
- 24:45because OK, so let's obviously we're talking power play time,
- 24:48right? That's always kind of what we're
- 24:50looking at fantasy wise for an. Office for sure.
- 24:53He's definitely playing in the NHL.
- 24:54Like if you look at like their defensemen like he's definitely
- 24:56cracking that. And then my question is what is
- 24:59his road to either power play unit?
- 25:01The nice thing with Saint Louis is a complete split.
- 25:03So he doesn't need to be power play 1.
- 25:04He just needs to be on either. And I'll tell you the three
- 25:06defensemen that are kind of in his way, it would be Cam Fowler,
- 25:10Colton Preco and Justin Faulk. And I think he would be above
- 25:13fault, honestly, because I wasn't.
- 25:15Impressed with Army guy last year.
- 25:17No, until Fowler came in. Until you you drafted fault last
- 25:22year and you dropped him because he just.
- 25:23Like fell off like he was valuable again later in the
- 25:26season. Yeah, but I I think like and in
- 25:29my opinion, I always thought Preco was a pure like
- 25:31defenseman, like being your style power, but they had him on
- 25:33the power play for a bit. But really, I think I could see
- 25:36Fowler. I think it's clear P1 or at
- 25:38least on one of them guaranteed because that's his main value.
- 25:41Also. But my you could be could be
- 25:43that guy the second like he could be instead of preco or
- 25:46fault he can be on one of the power play units.
- 25:48I still think that way though. I still think he's a rookie and
- 25:52he's not gonna have a big impact this year.
- 25:53It might take him a year or two to like gain experience in the
- 25:56NHL, but I think he could be a solid points defenseman in the
- 25:59future if he takes over one of the power plays.
- 26:01I think it can be like one of those things where you get a
- 26:03situation where somebody gets hurt.
- 26:05Like these guys are all super old except Parreco.
- 26:07Like something happens and they just throw them in there.
- 26:10Like, you know, we saw like a Thomas Harley situation or or
- 26:15what was the to this? But but he he just gets a chance
- 26:23and he proved himself and then he cements his position.
- 26:26It might happen, but probably more next.
- 26:28Year is the watchlist guy, pretty much.
- 26:29Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 26:31And then yeah, in terms of other Blues from Bulldog leaving, it
- 26:36frees up a power play and top six spot for a forward on the
- 26:39Blues. And the two guys that I would
- 26:41kind of look at is, um, well, Jake Neighbors already kind of
- 26:45was top six and on a power play. So I don't think it affects him,
- 26:47but he might have a bigger role. And then Jimmy Snuggerud, one of
- 26:51the funniest names to say, but he should get a big chance this
- 26:54year. He was first round, 23rd overall
- 26:56pick in 2022. So he's got a big, you know,
- 26:59resume and yeah, this spot that opened up, people do leaving.
- 27:03I think he can. He can have a big a big year.
- 27:06Yeah. How do we like the Blues next
- 27:08year? Is it like a we're hyped and
- 27:09they're gonna continue what they did at the end of last season,
- 27:11or are they slowed down or they? Complete.
- 27:13There's no way they're continuing that pace that was.
- 27:14Until they were like undefeated for so long.
- 27:17Yeah, but I like them. I see them as a middle of the
- 27:20road like. Every playoff team.
- 27:22I guess they're they're wild card team.
- 27:25OK, the Blues are the Utah. It's tough because you always
- 27:29like I like the shiny toys, you know, like and has more
- 27:32excitement some behind it. So I wanna lean with Utah.
- 27:35But like Montgomery is a serious coach and Blues have good
- 27:37players. So I don't know.
- 27:38But I'm going to Utah, just I'm really hype on Utah.
- 27:41Ohe OK, I know, I know who every player Josh is going to draft.
- 27:45I honestly, I want so many Utah players and I'm going to have to
- 27:48restrain myself. Yeah, they're fun team for sure.
- 27:53Let's let's move on to the next. Alright, next one is Carolina
- 27:58Hurricanes acquired Kandre Miller from the Rangers for a
- 28:00second round pick, a conditional first round pick, and Scott
- 28:03Morrow. I remember when I saw this
- 28:05trade, I thought this was a crazy overpay by Carolina.
- 28:07I was. Like more opposite over the
- 28:09edge. Right.
- 28:09Like I like very serious until recently I thought this guy was
- 28:13a highly touted like prospect. And then he he they got brought
- 28:16in in the playoffs and he just had a terrible like playoffs.
- 28:20And then I guess Carolina, it's like, you know what, he's an
- 28:23undersized guy. He didn't have a good playoffs.
- 28:25He played like 3 games. Like we don't want him anymore.
- 28:27I don't know. I don't.
- 28:28Know they wanna somebody's gonna make more of an impact right
- 28:30now, I guess, because every year they're like eliminated in the
- 28:33second round. I guess that's fair.
- 28:35No, it's the conference finals. This was there, you know, before
- 28:38this year. They always have the conference
- 28:40finals. No, that's true.
- 28:42But they were like Owen, like 16 in their last like, 16
- 28:46conference finals. Yeah, this year they won one and
- 28:48they were like, celebrating. But yeah, I know this was a
- 28:50crazy trade. Like in real life, I thought it
- 28:52was a crazy overpay. They clearly really like Miller,
- 28:55but I think it's more as a defensive defenseman, I don't
- 28:57see him making that much of an impact.
- 28:59I mean, he's the second guy offensive wise behind Gosta
- 29:02Spare. But they're like, if you don't
- 29:04put gospel on your power, play one like why is he on your team?
- 29:07I I I totally agree with everything you just said.
- 29:11It's really kind of to me a little boring for fantasy.
- 29:14Kandre Miller is way better IRL than he is in fantasy and like
- 29:18Carolina is just. So warming, what do you see when
- 29:21you see a player go to Carolina here?
- 29:22Like already You're like, oh, OK.
- 29:24Yeah, it's just like there's such a good team, like he knows
- 29:28how to build such like a force to be like third best.
- 29:31But like it's just not that he was really even offensive
- 29:36beforehand. Like he's just gonna add to the
- 29:38team and make them decent like I.
- 29:40Guess it's gonna be like slaving 2 pointers.
- 29:42Pretty much exactly. It does feel like an over.
- 29:46Does he run PG? It really does.
- 29:48Yeah, he'll be P2, but PB2 on Carolina is irrelevant.
- 29:51Yeah, but I feel like maybe this is a year where Ghost takes a
- 29:55step back and they can justify having him on the on the team or
- 30:00in the top 6 for just the power play.
- 30:03And maybe this is one of those situations where Miller sneakily
- 30:07ends up PB one and we're all like kind of surprised because
- 30:11he's not. I feel like he's not a great
- 30:13power play quarterback, but if he's got the spot, he's got the
- 30:15spot. I mean they did pay him 8 * 7.5
- 30:18mil. That's a big data first and
- 30:21second round pick and a prospect like they really, really like.
- 30:24Him, he's like, he's like the future of their decor.
- 30:27Like he's. Yeah, it's him and Slavin, and
- 30:29Slavin is pure. Miller, pretty much as much as
- 30:32like the Habs, paid for Dobson. Yeah.
- 30:35Which is crazy to me. I think Dobson is way better.
- 30:37But yeah, Dobson is way. Better.
- 30:38Yeah. And that's insane to me.
- 30:40Is Miller right-handed? Probably honestly with the to
- 30:44get that overpay, you gotta be a right-handed defenseman this
- 30:46offseason. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:48So fantasy wise, I don't think there's much much to talk about.
- 30:51Like barely anything. He could be a guy honestly that
- 30:53I drafted like in my last round, like around on my decor that I
- 30:57drop after week one. If I see it's like really not
- 30:59working out or like I can, I'm calling my shot now.
- 31:02I feel like, you know, throughout the season, it's like
- 31:04week 15 or something And Shane gossipers hurt again and Miller
- 31:09steps in and is valuable as the people on defenseman.
- 31:12Who knows? That's like, yeah, so he's the
- 31:14guy. He's the next in line, you know,
- 31:16he's the vice president. So you keep an eye on if the
- 31:18president gets shot, but other than that, you know.
- 31:22Well, no, but it's you're right. It's like they they have him
- 31:26there to basically be like like the defensive defenseman because
- 31:30that's who he is. But you're right, Kevin, the
- 31:33like just he'll have to be the next in line.
- 31:35They just paid so much. For him, like exactly, it's
- 31:38crazy. It's.
- 31:39Just I feel gossip bears little squishy.
- 31:41So yeah, I just feel like, you know, he gets hurt or he is a
- 31:46liability besides being on the power play, and they move him
- 31:49off and then there's an opportunity that arises.
- 31:52Follow that money, my new catch phrase.
- 31:57Yeah, really. So I don't know about you guys,
- 32:00but I think this last one is the most exciting.
- 32:03OK, we needed it. Really depends.
- 32:06Not exciting to say top nine. You know what's what's
- 32:09something? You know what?
- 32:10OK, there's not whatever. Let's just get into it, OK?
- 32:13The Penguins acquire Archers Sheloves from Vancouver for
- 32:17essentially trash. If you drafted she loves lawsuit
- 32:22because Demco started this season on the the IR then you
- 32:25were not pleasantly surprised because he did nothing and
- 32:28Lincoln was the guy you had the draft.
- 32:30Lankinen got drafted in our league like.
- 32:32We really should have. Way too early and I was like, I
- 32:35was like laughing to myself. I'm like I got Sheila was last
- 32:37pick of the draft and he's. He just knew.
- 32:43Yeah. You know, it's like the the
- 32:45truth is like, obviously we make fun of it a little bit because
- 32:48this is a tiered below the other ones that we all mentioned.
- 32:52But Loki, this could be one of those like Michael Jordan and I
- 32:56took it personally memes from She loves.
- 32:58Like he was like, yeah, he's listening to our podcast and
- 33:01really sticking it to us because look like Pittsburgh does kinda
- 33:05suck. Like they're really not that
- 33:07good at this point. But as long as they have Crosby,
- 33:10like, they're gonna try. Yeah, like they will.
- 33:13So is Jerry really some sort of like they're possible?
- 33:18Ship him for sure. That's what I'm saying like.
- 33:21To go what they might want. She loves to be the guy.
- 33:24Like everything is powered to like, not be the starter there.
- 33:27Like they literally could not. Yeah, they could always.
- 33:31They had to start because nobody else.
- 33:33Yeah. Maybe they're starter this year,
- 33:37in which case you could do worse than to drop off like a middle
- 33:40of the road team starting goalie.
- 33:43So the way I see it with this is, first of all, Pittsburgh
- 33:46gonna be in lottery contention. I see them getting McKenna
- 33:48because it's gonna be like Crosby's torch passing on to
- 33:51McKenna, you know, just they would be their luck, you know?
- 33:53Anyways. They're gonna be that bad.
- 33:55They're gonna be garbage this year.
- 33:56They're really, really bad. The only good thing they've got
- 33:59going is Crosby, and yes, that's a really good thing.
- 34:01She's also pretty old. Yeah, there's another.
- 34:03Issue. She loves the new Akira Schmid,
- 34:06that's why. The new MOS from the.
- 34:09Office. You mean she loves in the
- 34:11Penguins? Yeah, yeah.
- 34:13So anyway, so Penguins are gonna suck as a team.
- 34:15And then it's not even like she loves has an easy road to the
- 34:17starters net because, yes, there's Jerry, which they're
- 34:19trying to get rid of, but they haven't yet.
- 34:21And as long as he's there, he's gonna get starts.
- 34:22And there's also Blomqvist. I don't know you guys remember
- 34:25from this past season, but he was pretty solid actually.
- 34:28I think he's a prospect they're excited about.
- 34:30So what I see Pittsburgh at least trying to do is getting
- 34:33rid of Jerry and then going into the season with a blank fist.
- 34:35Sheila's tandem Not, not not an. Exciting task.
- 34:40You know, refer to my previous. They're going to be a bottom
- 34:43five team. Yeah.
- 34:45But The thing is that the reason that I mentioned this at all is
- 34:49I don't know if you saw Sheila's stats from the Calder Cup, which
- 34:52they won, right? Lay it on me.
- 34:53Cup, but in the playoffs he was 17 and eight. 2.8 Goals against
- 34:58average .929 save percentage and five shutouts.
- 35:02So like. Crazy.
- 35:03That's pretty insane. He was obviously like players do
- 35:06well with the NHL and it doesn't like translate because he was
- 35:09pretty bad in the NHL last year. He had a few like.
- 35:12Chances. Yes, exactly.
- 35:13So I think he's got a good future.
- 35:15I think he could become a starting goalie in the future.
- 35:17I don't think that is this year. I don't think it's next year,
- 35:20but I think something to keep an eye on if you're, you know,
- 35:23thinking really far in the future.
- 35:25And I needed a 10th trade to put on the list so.
- 35:29OK. Can I give you, would you rather
- 35:30stand the podcast? Yeah.
- 35:32OK. Would you think she loves OK
- 35:35Blomqvist or John Gibson? Gibson.
- 35:40OK, never mind that. OK.
- 35:47OK. For cut him off.
- 35:49Or Peter Marasmic. Bloodfist.
- 35:52OK. But this is like saying like
- 35:54would you rather? Block, Mr. Spencer Night.
- 36:00Yester night, yeah. Yeah, that's right.
- 36:02Yeah, I like. It I just know.
- 36:03I just know you hate tonight after last year.
- 36:04Give me a She loves 1 though. Like give me, give me like, I'm
- 36:08curious like we could. She loves her blog with.
- 36:11Yeah. What?
- 36:13No, like, I don't know. I mean, if you're not drafting
- 36:16the head of the other guy that's on the same team, then who are
- 36:18you drafting My head off? I mean no one drafting any of
- 36:21these guys, right? Like.
- 36:23I mean, it's some deeply. You'd be surprised.
- 36:25People are desperate for some goalies.
- 36:26Look, if between now and the secondaries and Jerry gets
- 36:29traded, yeah, yeah, then it becomes a person who can
- 36:32actually get rostered, you know? Down like they don't like him.
- 36:36They sent him to the NHL last year, yeah.
- 36:39But he's gonna. Like get it back.
- 36:41They had no other options. They're gonna give him a chance
- 36:43to start the season though. If.
- 36:45He's always doing the chances are the season, it's always
- 36:47happens. Hey, you could put some respect
- 36:49on the Stanley Cup winner Tristan Garry's name.
- 36:53Oh my God. Yeah, I, I do you have one with
- 36:56Shilos, Kevin, I'm, I'm thinking.
- 36:58Like, no, but we have, we have limited time left.
- 37:01I feel like who's who's the guy that did it get traded that you
- 37:03really thought you wanted to get traded?
- 37:05Like didn't get traded that you wanted to?
- 37:07Yeah, talk about top 10 trees. Like, I don't know anybody on
- 37:10top of your head like that you really wanted to see traded and
- 37:13that didn't happen. Like, I think I think we could
- 37:16have seen like something cool happened like Sam Bennett, like.
- 37:19Like modern signings, right? That's.
- 37:22Like, yeah, but like, it was like kind of morning, right?
- 37:23Like we put them in the chase, but like it was a sign and
- 37:26trade. I mean, all things considered,
- 37:28this is a pretty boring free agency, right?
- 37:30Most of the teams just resigned their guys because of their
- 37:32rising cap, right? They all had more money than
- 37:34they originally thought they would.
- 37:35And so they're just like, OK, we'll just sign all our guys.
- 37:37I mean, if you're Florida, all you guys took a discount also.
- 37:39So that helped. They somehow kept all three of
- 37:41their big names. But that's.
- 37:43Coming up, which is crazy. It's not there.
- 37:47They really built, are building a dynasty there.
- 37:49But they are. There's a lot of their guys are
- 37:50getting old. So we'll see.
- 37:51I don't know. I think if they have space for
- 37:53face Florida in the playoffs, I think we can take it, yeah.
- 37:57But I also have time for. Letting my bracket this year.
- 38:01You have to know choice. Yeah, every year.
