- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody good. Afternoon from the chicken coop.
- 0:29Well, you'll listen to this in the morning, but you get the
- 0:31point. We have a chicken who
- 0:35consistently puts herself in the same situation day after day,
- 0:39week after week, month after month.
- 0:40She's one of my original chickens.
- 0:43She is a Brown coaching and she is absolutely terrible at
- 0:48getting herself down from the rafters and she does the same
- 0:52thing every day. She climbs the little ladder to
- 0:55go up to the rafters. She gets up there and then she
- 0:58won't come back down the ladder like the rest of the chickens
- 1:01do. She sits up there and she just.
- 1:03Goes ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba.
- 1:06Like she needs help. So every day I come out and I
- 1:10help her get down by climbing the ladder and taking her down.
- 1:14And it got me thinking because today it was pouring and I had
- 1:17said to Mark this morning, can you please take the chicken down
- 1:21for me when you go out to take care of your animals?
- 1:23And he said yes, I said it was too early, it was dark, it was
- 1:26cold and we were leaving. So can you please take her down?
- 1:29Yes. And then he forgot.
- 1:31So she was up there for a good chunk of the till early
- 1:35afternoon. And no, nothing happened to her.
- 1:37Of course, nothing happened. She's just up, up in the
- 1:40rafters. But my point is this, how often
- 1:43do we as human beings do this to ourselves where we keep putting
- 1:46ourselves in the same situations that we know are not good.
- 1:49Now mind you, this chicken has multiple spots she can sleep
- 1:53because I do have a couple other ones that do not like to go up
- 1:56into the rafters. And they will sit on the ladders
- 1:59and they like it. They absolutely, because it's
- 2:02actually like stairs more than ladders, but they will sit on
- 2:05the stairs rather than go up. And this one goes all the way
- 2:09up, way into the back and puts herself in this horrible
- 2:13situation. And she does it again and again
- 2:15and again and again. And it never ceases to amaze me
- 2:18how much she does this and how much she causes so much grief
- 2:22for herself. If she would just stop and not
- 2:24do that, she wouldn't have the problem that she has.
- 2:27But guess what? She does it everyday and we as
- 2:30humans, we do the same things. We put ourselves in the same
- 2:33situations. It's like if you're deciding,
- 2:35OK, I am going to be at the beginning of this year, I'm
- 2:38going to be so good and I'm not going to eat sweets.
- 2:40And then all of a sudden you keep putting yourself into the
- 2:43position where you see the sweets or you keep going and
- 2:46getting sweets for your house. Like you're out, you're buying
- 2:48groceries and you know, you're, you say, well, I have to have
- 2:52some sweets in the house. I have people in the house.
- 2:54I have other, you know, my kids, my husband, my wife.
- 2:57They may want those sweets, whatever it is.
- 2:59And you do it. And then you realize like, Oh my
- 3:02gosh, they're there and they call you.
- 3:05It's just like the chicken. And all of a sudden, before you
- 3:08know it, you're eating the damn cookie.
- 3:11So the point is you have to look and say, what situations am I
- 3:15putting myself in that are just not good for me?
- 3:18Where am I? Where is this showing up in my
- 3:20life? And I'm using the cookie as an
- 3:21example, but it could be anything.
- 3:23It could be something as stupid and as silly as saying, you know
- 3:26what? I keep putting myself in at the
- 3:28gym at the same time every day, even though I get aggravated
- 3:31because I know there's no other equipment and it's the only time
- 3:34I can go. Well, really, if you want to
- 3:37make it work, you can find a different gym.
- 3:39You can find another way, work around it.
- 3:41You can come up with something that will give you an ability.
- 3:44I am the person that cannot stand going to the gym.
- 3:47So I figured out, well, if I just walk and I just keep
- 3:50walking, I'm going to lose the weight I wanted to lose, get in
- 3:53shape, have great cardio health, and I did it all by walking.
- 3:57Literally wore out pairs of sneakers walking that much.
- 3:59But guess what? It works.
- 4:02You can find a way around these problems when you are committed
- 4:05to them. But you can't do it if you keep
- 4:07repeating the same actions that you've always done.
- 4:10You have to stop doing what you've always done and start
- 4:13doing what you want to do to create the new version of your
- 4:17life and yourself. It's really that simple.
- 4:19So I'm going to challenge you to look and say, where is this
- 4:22showing up? Where am I, the chicken that's
- 4:24in the rafter, sitting there doing the same damn thing and
- 4:26then screaming for help every day and not considering I don't
- 4:30have to go to that spot. I can do something different.
- 4:32I can change my approach. I don't need to be horrified
- 4:35into doing it this way because it's not helping me get where I
- 4:38want to go. All right, my friends.
- 4:41PP. I'll see you tomorrow.
