- 0:00We've got some exciting news.
- 0:02Do we?
- 0:02Yes.
- 0:03Who has exciting news?
- 0:05We.
- 0:06We do?
- 0:07The world does.
- 0:08What is it?
- 0:08Provost Kelsey and Taylor, tell us we've got a game.
- 0:10Oh my god.
- 0:11I honestly thought maybe it was going to be new news
- 0:13that I didn't know.
- 0:14There's the pain.
- 0:16Blood.
- 0:17Doing every fucking channel.
- 0:18And it's been moving markets.
- 0:20Is it?
- 0:20Yeah.
- 0:21I mean, look, I'm happy she's found love.
- 0:23I really am.
- 0:24You sound really sick.
- 0:25I see.
- 0:27No, no, it's just before this podcast,
- 0:28where we were just having a last minute lol,
- 0:30because I meant to be going to a singles party tonight.
- 0:33And you meant to bring someone with you
- 0:34that's also single for someone else.
- 0:36Basically, you bring someone with you.
- 0:38Who's single?
- 0:39Nice, vetter's, like, so that they're a nice person.
- 0:41Yeah.
- 0:42But I had this in Sydney.
- 0:44And it was great.
- 0:44And I made friends and I'm still friends with the guys
- 0:46that were there.
- 0:47That's cool.
- 0:48It was really, really fun.
- 0:49Yeah.
- 0:50The only problem here is it's like, no man, no entry.
- 0:52And I can't find someone to come with me.
- 0:53So I wish this podcast would live.
- 0:55And I would actually ask people listening to like,
- 0:57I'm this close to putting it on the curve of social media
- 1:00to be like, is anyone single?
- 1:02It's better than what you did, which was text.
- 1:05My ex-boyfriend's friend.
- 1:06Yeah, an ex-boyfriend's friend.
- 1:07Well, he's on holiday with your ex-boyfriend.
- 1:09Yeah, not my friend's friend.
- 1:10Hi.
- 1:10Well, it's game-to-me.
- 1:11Can you fly that?
- 1:13Anyway, the point here is I'm very happy for Taylor.
- 1:15Yeah.
- 1:17And I think what she's done is change the narrative around,
- 1:21like, most of the stuff that I'm seeing
- 1:23is the idea of, yep, girls, don't settle.
- 1:26She's 35, she's just got engaged.
- 1:27Yeah.
- 1:28It's not panic.
- 1:28And pretend we need to be engaged at 21 these days.
- 1:31Like, 100%.
- 1:32Yeah.
- 1:33Imagine if she'd gotten engaged, like,
- 1:34was that her style or, yeah,
- 1:36all the loses she dated before?
- 1:39I mean, I wouldn't mind getting engaged.
- 1:41No, not at the audience either.
- 1:43She's moving markets and a lot of companies
- 1:44are capitalizing on this, as they were.
- 1:46Like, she's the biggest artist of all time, essentially.
- 1:49But like, Chris B. Kreme came out with like,
- 1:52celebratory glazed donuts for the engagement.
- 1:54And then Wengstop, which is like a chicken Weng place,
- 1:58put this campaign on.
- 1:59He put a wing on it.
- 2:01Genius.
- 2:01Absolutely the cleverest marketing I've ever heard.
- 2:04Also, LVMH stock went up because Taylor Swift
- 2:09was wearing Louis Vuitton sandals in the picture.
- 2:12Honestly, and Ralph Lauren, she was wearing a Ralph Lauren dress.
- 2:15Honestly, this is great research.
- 2:17Victoria, diamond, diamond stocks.
- 2:21There's two diamond dolers.
- 2:23There's two prices have gone up because people are like,
- 2:26there's so many fans out there that if Taylor Swift is engaged
- 2:29and there is men or women on the sidelines
- 2:31who are thinking of doing it,
- 2:33they'll be varying from you.
- 2:33And your partner's a Swiftie fan.
- 2:35You'd be doing it now.
- 2:36So, how much was her ring?
- 2:38It was like a million or something.
- 2:40It was so expensive.
- 2:42Half a million dollars.
- 2:43Yeah.
- 2:44Seven to ten carrots.
- 2:45We're assuming.
- 2:46Do we think that's safe to be walking around?
- 2:48I'm like, wouldn't someone cut your finger off?
- 2:50That is the Ralph Lauren dress that she wore,
- 2:52sold out in 20 minutes.
- 2:54Imagine how stoked you'd be if you were like a small brand.
- 2:57Yeah.
- 2:57You know?
- 2:58Like, because that would all be curated.
- 3:00That's not him just proposing.
- 3:01Like, God, no.
- 3:02There was like enough flowers to feel like a football stadium.
- 3:05It was like not chill.
- 3:07And the photographers, anyway, their joint wealth
- 3:09is expected is like,
- 3:10kind of nearly two billion dollars.
- 3:12But she has 94% of that.
- 3:15Like, that's the kind of imbalance,
- 3:17which, and I've seen some incredible memes.
- 3:20Just everyone just feel like,
- 3:21yeah, go girl, I'm like,
- 3:23shit, yeah.
- 3:25I saw some incredible memes.
- 3:26And it's like, when Travis Kelsey opens the pre-knit,
- 3:28and this guy pulls a drawer,
- 3:30you know, there's like filing cabinets,
- 3:31and he pulls the drawer.
- 3:32And the drawer, like, just keeps going and going and going and going.
- 3:35And it's like all the teas and sais of the pre-knit.
- 3:37I've been like, I was like, yeah, fair enough.
- 3:39Why are we also joking about this?
- 3:41We're who?
- 3:41There's a woman that earns more than a man
- 3:44in a marriage dynamic now.
- 3:46Like, this shouldn't be such a big deal.
- 3:49But I mean, most of the stuff I saw that came out
- 3:51was about the pre-knit.
- 3:53And it was saying it's the most, like, airtight,
- 3:56extravagant, long pre-knit that's like ever been created.
- 4:00And they assigned it without even blinking.
- 4:02Because of course you wouldn't.
- 4:04The person that you love has spent their whole life
- 4:07becoming the biggest, most successful pop star in the world.
- 4:10You sign so she can protect her shit, right?
- 4:13And also, I just feel like the whole,
- 4:17the rhetoric around, like, she didn't settle.
- 4:19She's got to 35.
- 4:20Like, I mean, obviously, we don't know him, right?
- 4:23Like, we don't also don't know her.
- 4:24But everything you see online and the, again,
- 4:28you can't really obviously judge from like Instagram and stuff.
- 4:30But he seems like such a solid guy.
- 4:34I feel like she's chosen someone that respects the fact
- 4:38that she is the wealthier one in the relationship.
- 4:40I remember he said in their podcast, like, she's an athlete.
- 4:43Like, she goes on to, when she's on tour.
- 4:46Like, she goes out onto the field and exerts so much energy.
- 4:50And then when she comes off and it's like, it's all training.
- 4:53It's all like, they just athletes in different fields.
- 4:55And I was like, it's such a good way to put it.
- 4:56But anyway, in this, the post, the Instagram post
- 5:00was the most liked post on social media ever.
- 5:03It's shot.
- 5:04But like, a lot of 30 million likes or something.
- 5:06Like, and this is honestly kind of weirdly
- 5:09and quite embarrassingly given the goosebumps.
- 5:11I'm like, this is so epic.
- 5:14Go Taylor Swift.
- 5:15Go Taylor.
- 5:16I don't care if you don't like her music or you think she's lame.
- 5:19This is epic.
- 5:20Yeah.
- 5:20She's doing a lot for women.
- 5:22Women.
- 5:23Yeah.
- 5:23God yeah.
- 5:24Yeah.
- 5:24Women in business, for women in love, for like everything.
- 5:27Yeah.
- 5:28And the fact that she is like publicly talking about prenups.
- 5:32And it just makes it so much less weird.
- 5:34Yeah.
- 5:35Oh, it's so epic.
- 5:37Anyway, enough of Taylor.
- 5:39If you're a single gay man out there and you want your love story,
- 5:42yeah, then grinder.
- 5:44That was the best transition you've ever done in your whole life.
- 5:46Oh, my God.
- 5:47Oh, yes.
- 5:48Oh, I know.
- 5:50So what's happening with Grindr?
- 5:54We never always start interviews.
- 5:55Invicts the first person there has to say the question.
- 5:57She just skips around at this so long.
- 5:59She'll be like, so, um, it's just so awkward.
- 6:02You've just sat down and said, so tell me about your money story.
- 6:05You know, I like it.
- 6:06It's like, it's quite invasive.
- 6:08Yeah.
- 6:08Anyway.
- 6:10Grindr is one of the only dating apps
- 6:13that's actually doing well.
- 6:14So, and we've spoken about this quite a while ago now,
- 6:16but like, there's
- 6:19hinge and tinder.
- 6:21Well, did you just been single?
- 6:22I mean, in a relationship so long,
- 6:23you can't even remember what it's called.
- 6:27Wait a robberdon.
- 6:32So it's a hinge, hinge and tinder,
- 6:35which are owned by a match group.
- 6:36And there's a public company.
- 6:37Bumble is not a public yet.
- 6:39And they've done like, they've done nothing all year.
- 6:42Like, absolutely flat.
- 6:43And then before that, they were pretty dire.
- 6:44Where Grindr is up 30% this year.
- 6:47Wow.
- 6:47Yeah.
- 6:48Why is that?
- 6:48And it's because the CEO is a leaning into AI a lot.
- 6:54But also he's using the technology and the app
- 6:58as more of like a distribution engine.
- 6:59So like, he's now looking at further business opportunities.
- 7:03For example, offering erectile dysfunction medication.
- 7:07So I guess capitalizing on the community that they've built
- 7:12and people in the app with certain like products and things
- 7:16that can actually help that community.
- 7:18So I was like, that's quite genius.
- 7:19Yeah, that's clever.
- 7:20Instead of pivoting, like Bumble was like,
- 7:22make friends, you know, not just not just date,
- 7:24but like meet people and make friends.
- 7:26Whereas Grindr is like, how can we make it?
- 7:28You need a condom?
- 7:29Yeah.
- 7:30Better dating life.
- 7:31And so there's plenty more in the pipeline apparently.
- 7:34So what would one shaman Bumble do?
- 7:36I'm trying to think like,
- 7:38what would the equivalent of that be for the female focused apps?
- 7:43Yeah, like, I'm not really sure.
- 7:44Would it be like restaurant vouchers and stuff?
- 7:46Well, like my getting where to go on a date?
- 7:48Or events, yeah.
- 7:50Bumble, singles events, I reckon,
- 7:51are starting to become a thing.
- 7:53I don't think I'd go.
- 7:54No, sorry.
- 7:56Don't make me feel desperate.
- 7:57No, I just don't think that if I was single,
- 7:59I just, I think there's, it's like,
- 8:02and it's kind of the same with dating apps, right?
- 8:04With what's supposed to happen to you will happen.
- 8:08What I'm trying to say?
- 8:09The difference in sliding into your DMs at 3 in the morning
- 8:11to like meeting at a party with all your friends.
- 8:14Because they're like, hey, who are you?
- 8:16But you know, I know, I get it.
- 8:18I just feel like there's this,
- 8:19it's like when you go to an event,
- 8:20right, and it's purely a networking event,
- 8:22and it's not based around anything,
- 8:24everyone's got that little bit of like,
- 8:26hi, how are you?
- 8:27I'm so, you know, it's kind of the same
- 8:29if it's a singles night.
- 8:29Everyone's got that bit of like,
- 8:31hi, you know, like what?
- 8:33It's just, it's just a bit of the force,
- 8:34I think, in the pressure.
- 8:36I just don't like that.
- 8:37I think it's, I think it's funny
- 8:38if you don't take it too seriously.
- 8:40I think if you turn up with like, you know,
- 8:42a pamphlet with all your like, top strengths and skills
- 8:44and you're like, into doing, you know,
- 8:47husband material, hectic.
- 8:48Is that not what a single's like?
- 8:49Well, I've never been like,
- 8:51oh, put up a mix of that.
- 8:53I've got my notes.
- 8:54Do you want to hear my introduction?
- 8:56No, I think that it's, you know, with dating apps,
- 9:00the main problem is that
- 9:02because people are so disposable
- 9:04because you have no personal connection to them.
- 9:06That's where I think no one,
- 9:08what's what I'm looking for.
- 9:10That's where I speak.
- 9:10Or like, there's no.
- 9:11Well, kind of, because you're just like,
- 9:13one of like, five billion that people can swipe through.
- 9:15Whereas I think something like a singles night,
- 9:17where there's someone else is bringing someone,
- 9:20because they're a friend,
- 9:20they know them, they're a nice person.
- 9:22There's probably a higher chance of like,
- 9:24whether you make friends or you go on a date with someone.
- 9:27Yeah.
- 9:28It's like, it's also less pressure, right?
- 9:30Because you're there with heaps of people.
- 9:31It's fun.
- 9:32You might just have a funny night.
- 9:33I guess it does kind of like,
- 9:35everyone here is highly available.
- 9:37You know, I also would rather
- 9:38than go to a random coffee with some person.
- 9:40I've never met it.
- 9:42Like, the chances of actually
- 9:43even having a good conversation,
- 9:44regardless of being into someone so well.
- 9:46Going to a party and being like,
- 9:47he's hot and then he's like,
- 9:48yeah, me and my girlfriend did that and you're like,
- 9:50oh, okay, anyway,
- 9:51NVIDIA, it is the world's AI darling.
- 9:55It is the poster child of AI.
- 9:58You know, you say AI, you think of NVIDIA.
- 10:00Well, you should.
- 10:01A lot of people do.
- 10:02They probably think Che at GPT.
- 10:04Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 10:05Anyway, it's 8% of the S&P 500.
- 10:08That is enormous.
- 10:09So, Jesus.
- 10:11Like, when it moves,
- 10:12it kind of moves the whole index really.
- 10:14And a lot of people are interested in it.
- 10:17And it's just reported its financial result.
- 10:18So there's a lot of eyes on those numbers.
- 10:22And it's kind of hard to explain what it does
- 10:25because I don't know, like I've tried a few times.
- 10:28No, I've got it.
- 10:29Here we go.
- 10:30NVIDIA is kind of like the backbone of the equivalent would be
- 10:37if any computer in the world needed a keypad,
- 10:41that business would be, well, it's basically powering
- 10:44an entire industry because to run AI,
- 10:47you need these random chips.
- 10:49Yep.
- 10:49They make the chips.
- 10:51So it's like, it's an integral part of AI.
- 10:54Yeah, without it, it's like the brain.
- 10:56It's like the brain of a computer.
- 10:57It's like the little chips that make computers
- 11:00essentially do all the things that we can do.
- 11:03Anyway, and they can handle lots and lots of calculations at once.
- 11:05So they've been used with all this Bermudae AI.
- 11:08They're the chips that you want to be using,
- 11:10all the brains that you want to be using.
- 11:12Anyway, they came out, had a fantastic result.
- 11:15They earned nearly $50 billion in three months.
- 11:18Just to imagine.
- 11:19Anyway, that grew by 50% that water on the previous year.
- 11:24So it's growing at like,
- 11:26nearly 60% actually.
- 11:27So this is a huge company
- 11:29growing at a huge rate,
- 11:30like it's just so annoyed I sold it.
- 11:32There's just questions, and more and more questions about
- 11:34is the AI boom over.
- 11:36And I'm just like, no,
- 11:37that the fact that this huge company
- 11:39is growing at the revenue in excess of 50%,
- 11:42which they've done for the last nine quarters.
- 11:45Yeah, it's absolutely ridiculous.
- 11:47Yes, there will be a point that it will grow at 40%.
- 11:49But like, that's still massive.
- 11:51Do you know what I mean?
- 11:52And because there is a lot of chat about like,
- 11:55the idea of an AI bubble,
- 11:58is it going to burst?
- 11:59And that's probably a good thing to talk about too,
- 12:00because there's like the combination of,
- 12:03have I missed the boat?
- 12:04Is the bubble about to pop?
- 12:06You know, I reckon it's similar to how people talk about
- 12:08anything, like whether it's the property market,
- 12:11people are like, it's at the top.
- 12:12It's like, no one even knows that.
- 12:14I think there's a validity.
- 12:16There's validity in the concerns,
- 12:19because it feels like it's all anyone is talking about.
- 12:24And when that happens, that does scare me.
- 12:27But I think what also, I guess, makes me less fearful
- 12:31is the amount that's being invested,
- 12:34and therefore, like, still demanded by AI, if that makes sense.
- 12:38Like, I think we've only scratched the surface
- 12:40and what it can do.
- 12:41I think with the difference with when we last had a bubble
- 12:44that was similar, which people are kind of referring back to,
- 12:46is like, when the internet was first created,
- 12:48and people are like, anything with dotcom on the end,
- 12:52or everyone was talking about dotcom,
- 12:53and everyone thought the internet was going to change,
- 12:55you know, the world completely.
- 12:56And it did.
- 12:58But these were businesses that were being created
- 13:00with no revenue, just an idea,
- 13:03and they were getting valued at like billions and millions of dollars.
- 13:05Whereas, yeah, we have a credible business
- 13:08that is growing, that has revenue,
- 13:10that is, there's expected to be $4 trillion invested in AI
- 13:14infrastructure, like data centers, etc.
- 13:17Over the next five years.
- 13:18Like, that in itself shows me that there is support
- 13:23for the kind of share price returns we're seeing.
- 13:25I reckon you've changed your tune on this a lot in the last year,
- 13:28because when it was all happening and starting to like take off.
- 13:32Yeah, you did actually.
- 13:33You were kind of like, hmm, how far can I go?
- 13:35Like, you were a bit skeptical.
- 13:37Yes, I totally, I totally appreciate that.
- 13:39But what I think with that,
- 13:43it's just when stock prices do so well
- 13:45in a short period of time, that's what scares me.
- 13:47And that was what was happening with the video.
- 13:50Whereas now, I've educated myself a lot more.
- 13:52I've done a lot of reading.
- 13:53I've seen like just how much investment is going on.
- 13:58And talks to other experts.
- 14:00You know, we've had like NAT from Google
- 14:02in the club talking about AI,
- 14:04like getting a perspective from someone
- 14:05who is like deep in the weeds of it.
- 14:08And everything I'm hearing is like,
- 14:11yes, we might get something that's a bit of a breather
- 14:13where the stock market pulls back a little bit.
- 14:15Which I genuinely think will happen.
- 14:18Oh my God.
- 14:19But I just don't think that this is over over, if that makes sense.
- 14:23Yes, sorry, I didn't interrupt you.
- 14:24No, that's right.
- 14:24I was just thinking, remember when at the start of the year,
- 14:27we did our productions for what we think the stock market's going to do?
- 14:30And you were like,
- 14:31anything that's going to go not do very well.
- 14:34And I was like, I reckon it's going to be booming.
- 14:36Am I on track to win this production?
- 14:38You're what's up 10%.
- 14:4015%.
- 14:40Guys, imagine.
- 14:42Hey, there's still four months.
- 14:43Bloody thought.
- 14:44There's still four months.
- 14:47Yeah, the S&P 500 is up 10%.
- 14:51Oh, Sophie.
- 14:52Oh my God.
- 14:53I feel like Nvidia is like,
- 14:56it's almost like the bulking guy trying to go to the gym
- 14:59who's just having so much protein,
- 15:01eating all the chicken and rice.
- 15:03He's just getting stronger and stronger, you know?
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:05Yeah.
- 15:06And he's going to be, he's going to be Johnny Bravo
- 15:08or like, you know, incredible Hulk by the end of the year.
- 15:11If he's 8%, the stock market.
- 15:14Maybe it's going to keep going up.
- 15:16Maybe.
- 15:17Yeah, I think there is a lot of concerns.
- 15:20This is an AI boom.
- 15:21And sorry, this is an AI bubble.
- 15:23And it's getting in with bubbles, bubbles pop, bubbles burst.
- 15:26And the stock market's going to fall.
- 15:28What I think would be healthy.
- 15:29And I don't know what's going to happen in the stock market in the short term.
- 15:32But is that there might be, you know,
- 15:35a small pullback like we saw in April of the stock market.
- 15:38But I think if we're looking and investing for the long term,
- 15:41so five years or more,
- 15:42AI is going to be a massive part of it.
- 15:46Yes, it might not be the new videos of the world that are leading it.
- 15:48There might be other companies that, you know,
- 15:51start their share prices, start going up and up and up and up
- 15:54and actually actually start taking the lead.
- 15:56But that's why ETFs are really great.
- 15:58There's some AI ETFs, so then you benefit.
- 16:01The whole transition.
- 16:03Also, for anyone that's interested in AI or investing in the space,
- 16:06we have some really great stuff that we've put in the Investing Club.
- 16:10We did actually did like an open day to the club on AI
- 16:13and we spoke.
- 16:14It was actually so interesting.
- 16:15Yeah.
- 16:16I haven't really given you much feedback,
- 16:17but it was super interesting.
- 16:18So if anyone's interested, we'll put the link in the podcast show notes.
- 16:21We also had a really funny slide in there of Sophie and I,
- 16:25who AI, so for now, I think.
- 16:28They look like they've had serious plastic surgery.
- 16:31We just look a bit like we're not there.
- 16:33Yeah, you know, we look a bit cartoon character.
- 16:35Like I don't think I would look at those two and think,
- 16:38I'm the listen to a podcast.
- 16:39No, I feel like that will look boring as well.
- 16:42Yeah.
- 16:43So we've actually recorded that and we've put it into the Investing Club,
- 16:47which, you know, we do have a seven day trial.
- 16:50So you can jump in there and watch it if you want.
- 16:52See our faces.
- 16:54Now AI faces.
- 16:55And our real faces.
- 16:56Anyway, we hear a lot about like generational wealth
- 17:00and the whole wealth transfer that's going on when boomers pass away
- 17:04and then we, you know, all the wealth they've created over the years.
- 17:07We passed down to the next generations.
- 17:08But the generational wealth gap is actually widening.
- 17:11So like the difference between the wealth that people have
- 17:13with the 75 versus 35 is actually getting wider and wider
- 17:17because a lot of those of the older generation
- 17:21have got huge, huge pensions essentially
- 17:26with not building them up as we are.
- 17:28Like we're still building our pensions
- 17:29and building up our retirement funds.
- 17:31The older generation is already there.
- 17:34They've already accumulated the wealth
- 17:36and with the performance, the stock markets doing,
- 17:38the property markets are doing.
- 17:39Like the assets are just getting more and more and more.
- 17:42God, I don't really understand this
- 17:44because if I think about the generational wealth gap,
- 17:47of course we're going to have way less than the boomers.
- 17:50So what do you mean by it's getting wider?
- 17:51The gap is getting wider.
- 17:53It's like the rich getting richer, right?
- 17:55If you've got the ability to invest in the stock market
- 17:58and that goes up and up and up and up and up,
- 17:59the gap gets wider than someone who doesn't have the ability
- 18:03to invest in the stock market.
- 18:04You know, so the more cash because your wealth compounds
- 18:08and gets more and more and more so that gap gets wider and wider.
- 18:10I mean, the idea of an older generation having more money
- 18:14because they've had more time to invest
- 18:15and they've got more assets and wealth breeds wealth.
- 18:18I totally understand that.
- 18:19Is it the idea that, say 10 years ago,
- 18:22the difference between the older generation
- 18:24and the younger generation didn't used to be so extreme?
- 18:27And now it's getting even more so.
- 18:29Even more and more extreme, more and more wide.
- 18:32And also that plays into that as well as taxes
- 18:35because if you have a higher proportion,
- 18:37if any country has a higher proportion of older people,
- 18:40they need more healthcare, they need more pension.
- 18:42And therefore, where does that come from?
- 18:44It comes from higher taxes of the younger generation.
- 18:48So therefore, it's harder to even get wealth
- 18:50if we're getting taxed more as a percentage.
- 18:52So it's this, it's really tricky to find that balance
- 18:55of creating wealth when you're younger
- 18:58if you're in an economy or a country where they've got these baby pimps,
- 19:04which is pretty much everywhere in the world right now.
- 19:07When the world war ended, that's why they're called baby boomers
- 19:10because there was a boom in babies.
- 19:12So because they had babies straight after the war?
- 19:14Yeah, and so there's a massive boom in babies.
- 19:16It's kind of cute.
- 19:17They probably came back from the war and they were like,
- 19:18I love you, let's have a baby.
- 19:20But now we're paying the price because there's so many of them.
- 19:24We have to fund their health care bills.
- 19:26We can list the COVID baby their thing.
- 19:28I think so.
- 19:29Yeah.
- 19:29We'll be like the COVID babies.
- 19:30The COVID boom.
- 19:32COVID boom.
- 19:33Yeah, COVID boomers.
- 19:34COVID boomers.
- 19:35Oh, there was a person.
- 19:36There was a pep boom.
- 19:37Yeah.
- 19:38COVID pep boom.
- 19:39Sorry, can you?
- 19:39That's right, because I interrupted you when you were like
- 19:41the problem with the baby boom is that we're all funding.
- 19:44Can you explain that again?
- 19:45Because I just cut you off.
- 19:46So like when you've got an imbalance of
- 19:51more older people in a society or in a country,
- 19:55economy would even want to call it and less younger people.
- 19:58It's the younger people that pay,
- 20:00that the working young people that pay taxes
- 20:04that help fund
- 20:06pensions, health care.
- 20:08So not only did they have more money,
- 20:09but there's more of them.
- 20:11So we're getting tax more,
- 20:13which is, oh my god, that's quite like a penny drop moment.
- 20:16Yeah.
- 20:17And we're facing higher debts.
- 20:20We've got higher mortgages.
- 20:21We've got higher consumer debt.
- 20:23So it's kind of widening the gap.
- 20:24Because if we want to get on the property market now,
- 20:27because the property price is so high,
- 20:28we have to take on more mortgages.
- 20:29Take us longer to pay those off.
- 20:32We've got higher interest rates.
- 20:33So isn't the whole then tax the wealthy?
- 20:35Isn't that like a perfect example where like,
- 20:37if they were taxed a bit more,
- 20:39it would alleviate the pressure from people
- 20:41who don't have much money,
- 20:42who are the younger generation who are worse off?
- 20:45Isn't that, isn't that?
- 20:46Well, then the wealthy people are like,
- 20:48well, no, that's, you know,
- 20:50like that's the whole thing of politics, right?
- 20:52It's like people vote for politicians
- 20:55that again, I have a positive impact on them in their situation.
- 20:58I do wonder though if it was explained
- 21:02or understood in a different way.
- 21:03Like, I know not everyone has kids,
- 21:05but let's say like the wealthy.
- 21:07That's also why it's so important.
- 21:08We need to have the children.
- 21:09If there was more people being born,
- 21:12there's more people that support the older generation.
- 21:14There's support we get older.
- 21:16So if we stop having so many kids when we get older,
- 21:18when there's a baby boom is part of it,
- 21:20the fact that there's a higher proportion of older people,
- 21:22but there's also much more kind of structural change
- 21:25going on in the earth, which is that people
- 21:28are having less children.
- 21:29But therefore,
- 21:30they're going to have to pay higher and higher and higher taxes.
- 21:33And that wealth gap's just going to get bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 21:35I think if you knew, like, let's say for the baby boomers,
- 21:39they know how much of an advantage they've had financially.
- 21:43They know generally that they have way, way, way more money
- 21:47and by not taxing them more,
- 21:50it's their own kids.
- 21:52They're the ones that are suffering.
- 21:54I feel like if you knew that and you understood it more,
- 21:57surely you'd be like, yeah, do you know what?
- 21:59Like, my 21-year-old daughter is battling.
- 22:02She can't have taxes if I.
- 22:04And she shouldn't have to support me when I have all this wealth.
- 22:08There's probably an element of that going on
- 22:09in the small portion of it, but a lot of people
- 22:13just self-example what's best in themselves.
- 22:16I don't know, right?
- 22:17I think there's also this wealth transfer going on,
- 22:20that's supposed to be coming,
- 22:21but it's also not guaranteed that everyone's going to get.
- 22:24But is that us waiting for the boomers to die?
- 22:27Is that essentially what the transfer is?
- 22:29Yeah.
- 22:29The older generation die, they pass down their assets,
- 22:32but they've compounded it over years and years and years.
- 22:35But isn't that the way it always works?
- 22:36Why all of a sudden is the reason that this is such a big deal
- 22:39because the older generation, the wealth gap,
- 22:42has never been so enormous,
- 22:43so there's never been a chance for it to be so beneficial
- 22:46for the next generation?
- 22:47And also, it's because the stock market
- 22:49and the property markets have done so well,
- 22:52whereas before we had the Great Depression
- 22:54and we had, you know, like they weren't accumulating wealth
- 22:58and compounding those returns over such a long period of time.
- 23:02So, boomers have it great.
- 23:05Yeah, yeah.
- 23:06I'd like to start to go fund me.
- 23:08Yeah.
- 23:08Good old trends.
- 23:09Or maybe just tax them, you know.
- 23:12I mean, I don't think all of them
- 23:13should be paying heaps of tax.
- 23:14I think it's just if you're really wealthy
- 23:17and it's not going to touch the sides.
- 23:18Could you please help us out?
- 23:20We're absolutely struggling.
- 23:22Hmm.
- 23:23The Curve Investing Club is the world's first digital
- 23:27investing club for women to build their wealth.
- 23:29It's a place where industry experts like myself
- 23:32and beginners can really, really join forces
- 23:34to share knowledge, swap ideas,
- 23:36and make money through investing.
- 23:38So, if you're listening to this podcast,
- 23:40you probably are aware that saving alone,
- 23:42unfortunately, can't make your millionaire
- 23:45but investing definitely could.
- 23:47So, we wholeheartedly believe in the power of community
- 23:50and that the best investment ideas come
- 23:52when we collaborate and learn with each other.
- 23:55So, bring your friends, your mum,
- 23:57even strangers on the street if you want.
- 24:00There really is strength in numbers
- 24:01and we're so excited to create a community
- 24:05that's just for you.
- 24:08We've actually hit a really pivotal moment
- 24:11in stock market history, I think.
- 24:14There is now officially more ETFs
- 24:18than stocks in the US.
- 24:20Wow.
- 24:20I know.
- 24:22How many stocks in the US even are there?
- 24:24There's about 4,300.
- 24:25And so, sorry, for anyone that is beginner,
- 24:27that means there's 4,300 publicly lusty companies
- 24:31that you can buy shares in
- 24:32if you're wanting to invest in the stock market.
- 24:33And there is now about 4,301 ETFs available
- 24:38to purchase as well.
- 24:39Which are big bundles of stocks.
- 24:41Yeah.
- 24:41So, it's effectively...
- 24:42That's so...
- 24:43I was just coming along and being like,
- 24:44I'm going to create a basket of these stocks
- 24:45and these stocks and these stocks, yeah.
- 24:46I know that the whole point ETFs were created
- 24:49is to try and make investing easier
- 24:51so that you can buy an index or an ETF
- 24:53for a big bunch of companies
- 24:55and feel like you can invest
- 24:56without having to make all these decisions
- 24:58on small stocks.
- 24:59I get that.
- 25:00But to have that many options of ETFs,
- 25:02I reckon it's done the total opposite.
- 25:04Because to me, I'm like,
- 25:05if there is a thousand different versions
- 25:08of the S&P 500 as an ETF,
- 25:10I will get decision paralysis.
- 25:12I'm not not know what one to go for.
- 25:14But that's why ETFs have created, right?
- 25:15It was to help reduce the overall.
- 25:18I know.
- 25:18And now it's just like,
- 25:20it's one completely the other way.
- 25:21Like, there is ETFs.
- 25:22You can buy ETFs on anything,
- 25:23like a country,
- 25:25a industry,
- 25:27a theme.
- 25:28There's even anti-woke ETFs.
- 25:31What does that even mean?
- 25:32So, if you're woke...
- 25:33I mean, I...
- 25:34I'm confused really
- 25:35with the definition of that.
- 25:36So, anti-woke ETFs is essentially
- 25:39it excludes any companies
- 25:41in the S&P 500
- 25:42that have diversity, inclusion,
- 25:44anything.
- 25:44So, it's like, yeah.
- 25:46So, it's kind of the flip side.
- 25:47So, it's kind of what Trump's been trying to do.
- 25:50I wish we could see who invests in that stuff.
- 25:51I know.
- 25:52You would just see like,
- 25:53balding Gary,
- 25:5475-year-old Steven.
- 25:57You know, like, you would.
- 25:58It would just be, it would be all like...
- 26:01It would be like,
- 26:02investing in the 19-20s.
- 26:04They're probably proud of it, too.
- 26:05They're probably like,
- 26:06ah, yeah.
- 26:07Anyway, there is now more ETFs than stocks.
- 26:10I actually met someone at a wedding
- 26:11in the weekend who works
- 26:13in sustainable investing.
- 26:14Oh, yeah.
- 26:15And so, he works for, say, BlackRock.
- 26:18Yeah.
- 26:19Yeah.
- 26:20Largest fund manager in the world.
- 26:21Yep.
- 26:22Stunning, stunning, stunning.
- 26:24And he was such an ETF creator.
- 26:26Yeah.
- 26:26Really?
- 26:26Yeah.
- 26:27I choose that's BlackRock.
- 26:28Yeah.
- 26:29God, I wish that I had known that at the time.
- 26:34I mean, I knew it was a big deal,
- 26:36but I didn't realize that big of a deal.
- 26:38Anyway, you should...
- 26:39Black investors were like,
- 26:40hey, congrats.
- 26:41I just heard there's now more ETFs in the world than stocks.
- 26:43Great chat.
- 26:44Great chat.
- 26:45No, but he was saying he's basically
- 26:47is the one that will go in and be like,
- 26:48okay, these are the fund options.
- 26:49These are the different options you have
- 26:51to invest in sustainable.
- 26:52Yes.
- 26:52Like our options, whatever.
- 26:54And he said, oh, but, you know,
- 26:56we all know sustainable investing is like,
- 26:57not doing very well.
- 26:58And I was just like,
- 27:00to add it to the heart.
- 27:01You know, like how...
- 27:02Shit.
- 27:03Yeah.
- 27:04I just think it'll just be...
- 27:05I think it'll just be...
- 27:06The temporary thing.
- 27:06It's a temporary thing.
- 27:07We all know what's going on with the planet.
- 27:09And it's just when you've got someone in power
- 27:12that then dictates regulation
- 27:14and money flows and capital flows,
- 27:16like a lot of companies
- 27:18hands are forced into
- 27:21falling in line for four years.
- 27:23So let's just hope Trump doesn't get in for another four years.
- 27:26And lastly,
- 27:27Puma.
- 27:28Puma.
- 27:29Puma.
- 27:29Puma.
- 27:30Puma.
- 27:30Is it Puma?
- 27:31Puma.
- 27:32Puma's very American sounding.
- 27:34Puma.
- 27:34It's quite fun to say Puma though.
- 27:36Like it's almost like it feels like...
- 27:37Like Puma.
- 27:38Not sure because you're saying Puma.
- 27:39Yeah.
- 27:41Why am I such a child?
- 27:42Puma.
- 27:43Are you wearing Puma's?
- 27:45Like, you're such a loser.
- 27:46Anyway, sorry.
- 27:47We're being so mean to each other in this episode.
- 27:49Like, I don't know why.
- 27:51We love each other, we love each other.
- 27:52Anyway, the family behind Puma,
- 27:56they own about a 30% stake.
- 27:58They also...
- 27:59Family run business, yeah.
- 28:00They also own...
- 28:03They have a large holding and curing,
- 28:04which one's Gucci.
- 28:05Oh yeah.
- 28:06So anyway,
- 28:07they are looking at possibly selling Puma.
- 28:10So who are they selling to?
- 28:12Either private equity or...
- 28:13But they're just like,
- 28:14it's done so terribly.
- 28:16So maybe a good time to buy?
- 28:18Well, the fact this news has come out.
- 28:20It's already known.
- 28:21Yeah.
- 28:22Oh, this needs to be way more...
- 28:23This is why companies keep it quiet if they're selling.
- 28:26Because the buyer has to buy the shares
- 28:30at a premium to what they currently listed at.
- 28:32And it would be inside trading if it goes out
- 28:35and then have to buy a premium on top of that.
- 28:36Exactly. If the share price goes from $10 to $12,
- 28:39and they were going to pay 12,
- 28:40now they have to pay 14.
- 28:41You know, so you want to keep it under wraps.
- 28:43I think you wouldn't want to keep it under wraps.
- 28:45Also, like, you could just fake leak.
- 28:48Oh, I'm selling my business.
- 28:49Anonymous tip.
- 28:51Anonymous inside, it says...
- 28:53Yeah.
- 28:53Surely you want a bit of a spiny one.
- 28:55It's particularly in the New Zealand stock market.
- 28:57Stuff like this just cannot be kept under wraps.
- 28:59Like, you know what I think?
- 29:01New Zealand is a village.
- 29:02It is...
- 29:02Oh, my cousin's uncle was brother,
- 29:04said that you're trying to sell the business.
- 29:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:06You'll see them at your local cafe.
- 29:08You'll see...
- 29:08Oh, he's selling.
- 29:10The CEO of ADS and CEO of Puma,
- 29:11having a coffee and then just...
- 29:13With the headlines and...
- 29:14Yeah, yeah.
- 29:14You can't get away with anything.
- 29:15But it does get leaked,
- 29:16and that's why companies do try to keep it quite quiet.
- 29:20But it's just...
- 29:21It's all due to competition and tariffs.
- 29:24If you think of, like, new balance,
- 29:25hocker,
- 29:26like, there's so many shoe brands
- 29:28that are doing really, really well.
- 29:29The nice thing is the so much of everything.
- 29:32Yeah.
- 29:32I mean, like, there's so much of literally every industry.
- 29:36But I also think there's ones...
- 29:37There's usually the big...
- 29:40Like, the 90s and 80s of the world
- 29:42have continued to innovate very, very well.
- 29:44They've stayed at the top
- 29:45and they've continued to innovate.
- 29:46I guess there's been smaller players
- 29:48that are doing well as well.
- 29:50But Puma's just kind of in this middle,
- 29:52like, what are you?
- 29:53Do you know what I mean?
- 29:54It's kind of...
- 29:55It's not big enough
- 29:56to spend billions and billions of dollars on innovation.
- 29:59But it's not small enough
- 30:01to be, like, the quirky, cool,
- 30:03up-and-coming new-entrant.
- 30:05I don't know.
- 30:06It feels like it's been around for a long time, though.
- 30:08Yeah.
- 30:09They've actually got a new CEO
- 30:12in the Edge trying to turn things around.
- 30:14But it's not working.
- 30:16Or Puma.
- 30:16Watch the space.
- 30:17Yeah.
- 30:18We have a curveball to finish the episode.
- 30:20We do.
- 30:21Okay, so curveballs.
- 30:22This is essentially a new segment that we're doing
- 30:24where we're asking, kind of, like,
- 30:26any kind of question at the end of the episode.
- 30:28And it can be, like,
- 30:29funny. It can be short.
- 30:30It can be long, whatever.
- 30:31It can be about money, ideally.
- 30:33But, you know, whatever.
- 30:34So did some come through that were...
- 30:36Well, this one, you know,
- 30:37it wasn't really a curveball,
- 30:38but we'll start with it because it's so funny.
- 30:40Okay.
- 30:40You know how you get, like, messages.
- 30:42And I'm sure you do.
- 30:44Like, from older men usually.
- 30:46And they're like, hey, I'll pay you $5,000.
- 30:48Oh, should we do that?
- 30:49Yeah, should we do that energy?
- 30:50And, you know, sometimes it's quite tempting.
- 30:51Someone to be like, yeah.
- 30:52$5,000 a month to, like...
- 30:55Seem it to us.
- 30:56Yeah.
- 30:56For it.
- 30:56Yeah.
- 30:57And then they're like, well, you're being details
- 30:58and you're like, scam.
- 30:59But anyway, this girl sent us a screenshot of one
- 31:02and Barry Jensen had reached out to her.
- 31:04There's Barry Jensen.
- 31:05The sugar daddy.
- 31:06Okay, sorry.
- 31:07Sorry, it's not like that.
- 31:07I was not widely calling that.
- 31:08It wasn't a famous fairy.
- 31:10Barry has reached out to her.
- 31:11And he goes, hi, beautiful.
- 31:13If given $2,000 weekly, what would you do with it?
- 31:16And she goes, I'd put it in the S&P 500, of course.
- 31:20Quite good.
- 31:22No response back.
- 31:23Shit, that's good.
- 31:24Quite good.
- 31:25And she shared it with us.
- 31:26And I was like, yes, we're in full trading
- 31:28this sugar daddy world.
- 31:29This is great.
- 31:30Anyway.
- 31:30So that's, that's not a great example.
- 31:32No, that's not true.
- 31:35This is quite a good one.
- 31:36It says, what have you both
- 31:37most recently invested in?
- 31:39There's actually so many good ones.
- 31:41I talk about that a lot in the club.
- 31:42Yeah.
- 31:42But I will give a little,
- 31:45but I bought some more, um,
- 31:47Novo Nordisk.
- 31:48Did you?
- 31:49Yeah.
- 31:49Wait, is that a Zempirk?
- 31:51Yeah, the GLP1 protein.
- 31:54What's that, sorry?
- 31:55That's the protein behind it.
- 31:57Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:59It's fallen so much.
- 32:01Really?
- 32:02It's actually been used now for addiction,
- 32:04for like habits,
- 32:05like nail biting,
- 32:06like all of that,
- 32:07the protein behind it.
- 32:08And just the sheer price is just fallen so much.
- 32:12Yeah.
- 32:12And is that because I remember a few weeks
- 32:14where we spoke about
- 32:15there being other competitors
- 32:16to a Zempirk that we're is?
- 32:18And I mean, I was buying it.
- 32:21Was it like May this year
- 32:22when the sheer price was higher?
- 32:24So I really should be buying it now as well.
- 32:26The sheer price is back to where it was in 2021.
- 32:29Like in the business has,
- 32:30has produced billions and billions of billions
- 32:32of revenue in profits since then.
- 32:34So the business is way larger,
- 32:36but you're getting it for the price
- 32:38that it was back when it was way smaller,
- 32:39essentially.
- 32:40That's my little nibble.
- 32:41I actually haven't invested in anything recently
- 32:44because I have a house update.
- 32:47Ooh, which we will put in our property podcast.
- 32:51I basically pulled all my money out of
- 32:53the stock market.
- 32:55Yeah, so I'll give an update on that.
- 32:58So we actually do have a couple of really good property
- 33:00podcasts for you.
- 33:01We've had so many issues from people
- 33:03wanting to know how I bought my property.
- 33:05And we did like a fall break down
- 33:07the last couple of weeks there.
- 33:09We can link them in this podcast.
- 33:11So if you want to listen,
- 33:12but yeah, I'll give an update on my property stuff soon
- 33:14because there's some fun, exciting developments.
- 33:17But I haven't been buying stocks in the last month or so.
- 33:20Have you been building up your emergency fund?
- 33:22Yeah.
- 33:24I had actually, and I think I'm ready to stop.
- 33:26Like I think I've got enough in there.
- 33:28Yeah.
- 33:28I don't need more.
- 33:30I don't think.
- 33:30I am absolutely exhausted.
- 33:33Yeah.
- 33:33I think we need to call it a day.
- 33:35However, just the last very quick
- 33:36curveball which we'll answer.
- 33:38Ooh, like pineapple on pizza.
- 33:40Ooh.
- 33:41I hate it too.
- 33:42It's warm pineapple gives me the hibiscus.
- 33:44The hibiscus.
- 33:45Yeah.
- 33:46It's absolutely a no.
- 33:47I do love pineapple.
- 33:48Just not on pizza.
- 33:49Yeah, and exactly.
- 33:50I love anchovies on pizza.
- 33:51Oh, and bananas.
- 33:52Olives.
- 33:53No, it's an eye for me.
- 33:54Yeah, pizza.
- 33:55Should we get a pizza for lunch?
- 33:56Yes.
- 33:57Oh my god, should we?
- 33:58Actually, yes.
- 33:59It's time for a team bonding experience.
- 34:00IA.
- 34:01Every day is team bonding.
- 34:02Pizza day.
