- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to the Daily Quote podcast, designed to
- 0:07kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:10I'm your host Andy McGivern for September 18th.
- 0:13Today is National Cheeseburger Day, and before you dismiss this
- 0:17one as just another food holiday, consider this The
- 0:22cheeseburger might be 1 of America's most perfect
- 0:25inventions. While the hamburger was created
- 0:28around 1900, it took until 1924 for someone to have the
- 0:33brilliant idea of adding cheese. Some food historians credit a 16
- 0:39year old fry cook who accidentally dropped a slice of
- 0:41cheese onto a hamburger while working at his father's sandwich
- 0:45shop. That simple addition, a slice of
- 0:50melted cheese, transformed an already popular sandwich into
- 0:54something iconic. The hamburger represents
- 0:58American ingenuity at its most delicious, taking something good
- 1:04and making it even better through a small but inspired
- 1:08innovation. Today, cheeseburgers are served
- 1:11everywhere from corner diners to fine dining establishments, each
- 1:16with their own interpretation of this beloved classic.
- 1:19It's comfort food that crosses all social and economic
- 1:23boundaries. Everyone has their favorite
- 1:25cheeseburger story, which brings us to today's quote from the
- 1:30comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who said there is no such thing as
- 1:36fun for the whole family. Now, Seinfeld's quote might seem
- 1:40cynical at first, but there's actually something brilliant
- 1:44about it when we think about cheeseburgers.
- 1:47Unlike so many things that claim to appeal to everyone but really
- 1:52don't, the cheeseburger genuinely does bring people
- 1:56together across generations, backgrounds, and tastes.
- 2:00What other food can satisfy a picky 5 year old, a
- 2:04sophisticated food critic, and a hungry construction worker
- 2:09equally well? The cheeseburger doesn't pretend
- 2:12to be fancy or try to be everything to everyone.
- 2:16It's just what it is, and somehow that honest simplicity
- 2:21actually does work for almost everyone.
- 2:26Seinfeld understood that most things that claim universal
- 2:29appeal are usually compromised or watered down, but the
- 2:34cheeseburger proves there are exceptions.
- 2:38It succeeds precisely because it doesn't try too hard.
- 2:42It's not attempting to be sophisticated or trendy.
- 2:46It's just a really good combination of flavors and
- 2:49textures that happens to hit all the right notes.
- 2:54Maybe that's the secret to things that truly do work for
- 2:57everyone. They're not designed by
- 2:59committee or focus group to death.
- 3:02They emerge from something authentic and genuine, like that
- 3:06accidental slice of cheese that fell onto a hamburger and
- 3:09created magic. As you go about your day, think
- 3:12about how Jerry Seinfeld could have changed his famous quote,
- 3:15too. There's no such thing as fun for
- 3:18the whole family. Except cheeseburgers.
- 3:23Actually, everyone in my family loves cheeseburgers except for
- 3:27my wife. So Jerry Seinfeld's original
- 3:31quote holds true for my family. She isn't a fan of cheeseburgers
- 3:36at all. She's French and her
- 3:39cheeseburger is actually steak Hashay.
- 3:43Those French have a different word for everything.
- 3:48Anyway, she likes her steak cocheted with melted cheese and
- 3:51a plate full of veggies. What she doesn't want a bun with
- 3:57mustard, ketchup, Mayo, relish, Pickles, onions, lettuce and
- 4:01tomato to go with that meat? No, just meat with cheese.
- 4:08You don't see Hell. It's because that's why.
- 4:12So today, whether you like your cheeseburgers with a brioche bun
- 4:16and all the fixings or a French burger with plain meat and
- 4:21cheese, remember that on National Cheeseburger Day.
- 4:25You don't need fancy ingredients for elaborate plans, just the
- 4:29intention to create connection and joy.
- 4:32Like the cheeseburger itself, sometimes the most memorable
- 4:36moments come from the simplest gestures made with care and
- 4:40shared with people who matter. That's going to do it for today.
- 4:43I'm Andy McGivern, signing off for now, but I'll be back
- 4:50tomorrow. Same pod time, same pod station
- 4:55with another daily quote.
