State Auditor Andrew Sorrell is pushing hard to close Alabama’s primaries by requiring voters to be registered with a party to participate in its primary — a move he says will pass in 2027. He credits his success to an amendment he helped pass unanimously at the Alabama Republican Party’s convention, which now officially demands party registration for primary voting. Sorrell warns that legislators who oppose this will be voting against the entire Republican platform — and he’s confident the legislature will act next session.
