- 0:56Speaker 1: us each day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and story along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if
- 1:11Speaker 1: you miss a portion of today's broadcast or would like
- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I pray not only for these but also for those
- 1:28Speaker 2: who believe in me through their message. May they all
- 1:32Speaker 2: be one as you, Father are in me, and I
- 1:36Speaker 2: am in you. May they also be one in us,
- 1:41Speaker 2: so the world may believe you sent me. I have
- 1:44Speaker 2: given them the glory you have given me. May they
- 1:49Speaker 2: be one as we are one. I am in them
- 1:54Speaker 2: and you are in me. May they be made completely one,
- 2:00Speaker 2: so the world may know you have sent me and
- 2:04Speaker 2: have loved them as you have loved me. John chapter
- 2:12Speaker 2: seventeen and verses twenty through twenty three. In the earlier segment,
- 2:20Speaker 2: we had discussed Jesus actually describing the Father, saying that
- 2:28Speaker 2: he and the Father are one, and that he was
- 2:32Speaker 2: going to the Father and that he would leave them
- 2:37Speaker 2: in his physical form, but he would again come to
- 2:41Speaker 2: them in the spirit form so that he could inhabit
- 2:47Speaker 2: all believers. Because of this message, life changing power came
- 2:55Speaker 2: into the believers. The day of Pentecost was not, as
- 3:01Speaker 2: we have seen, just a historical event. It was the
- 3:08Speaker 2: change of the life of each of the believers. They
- 3:12Speaker 2: no longer had the fear that they could have been
- 3:17Speaker 2: persecuted or killed. They would proclaim the message with boldness
- 3:25Speaker 2: to everyone, regardless of what the consequences may have been.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And so we find that Jesus has further prayed to
- 3:38Speaker 2: the Father, and as he is praying, he makes something
- 3:44Speaker 2: that includes all of us, You and I, believers. We
- 3:49Speaker 2: are included in this prayer because Jesus says, I pray
- 3:55Speaker 2: not only for these, but also for those who believe
- 4:01Speaker 2: in me through their message. In other words, everything that
- 4:08Speaker 2: he taught his followers was to be taught to their followers.
- 4:15Speaker 2: As they continued to grow. As they were discipled in Christ,
- 4:22Speaker 2: they continued to learn that they were to spread, continually
- 4:29Speaker 2: take the Gospel to all people. And so what changed
- 4:37Speaker 2: these believers was the full knowledge that Jesus had not
- 4:45Speaker 2: left them comfortless. He came to them, and because he
- 4:53Speaker 2: made his abode in them. Do you know what it
- 4:58Speaker 2: means when we use the term abide. Jesus used that
- 5:03Speaker 2: same description when he was talking about a vine, and
- 5:09Speaker 2: he described the followers as branches. You find that in
- 5:16Speaker 2: John the fifteenth chapter. What he is saying is that
- 5:22Speaker 2: He is the root of all of our existence. If
- 5:30Speaker 2: we are rooted in him as branches rooted to the vine,
- 5:37Speaker 2: life and life giving power comes through him. But without him,
- 5:44Speaker 2: without this life giving power that he provides, we can
- 5:51Speaker 2: do nothing. And so in this description we are encouraged
- 5:59Speaker 2: to abide in him. Now, our abiding in him is
- 6:06Speaker 2: one facet. But how does he abide in us? He
- 6:13Speaker 2: comes into us in the form of the Holy Spirit.
- 6:21Speaker 2: He comes into us, makes his home inside of us,
- 6:29Speaker 2: and we then are carriers, if you will, transporters of
- 6:37Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit. Now, we talked in an earlier segment
- 6:43Speaker 2: about being totally controlled by the spirit. The thing that
- 6:48Speaker 2: we have to understand is that we live in this body,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and until we become glorified, we will be in this
- 6:58Speaker 2: fleshly temple. But we don't have to live as the
- 7:04Speaker 2: world does in its fleshly temple. We live by the
- 7:10Speaker 2: faith of the Son of God, who gave himself for
- 7:16Speaker 2: us and now lives in us. And so what we
- 7:22Speaker 2: find is that there is this total transformation that takes place.
- 7:30Speaker 2: We have read in the scripture that old things have
- 7:35Speaker 2: passed away and all things have become new. So the
- 7:42Speaker 2: old thoughts, the old feelings, the old habits, these are
- 7:48Speaker 2: now behind us. By the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
- 7:55Speaker 2: We now move forward under his control. Now I will
- 8:02Speaker 2: say this, we need to be, as we said in
- 8:07Speaker 2: earlier segments, constantly full. But how do we remain full
- 8:16Speaker 2: of the Holy Spirit. Well, I offer this as an observation.
- 8:25Speaker 2: We constantly go back to the Holy Spirit in asking
- 8:34Speaker 2: for his in dwelling fullness. Now he doesn't leave us,
- 8:41Speaker 2: He's not departing us. He doesn't just rest on us
- 8:47Speaker 2: as he did in the Old Testament, but he takes
- 8:53Speaker 2: up his home in us. There's a book written by
- 8:59Speaker 2: a noted author, Robert Boyd Munger that is titled My
- 9:06Speaker 2: Heart Christ's Home, and in this book, it is a
- 9:12Speaker 2: description of how a Christian's life becomes more and more
- 9:20Speaker 2: surrendered to the Holy Spirit. Why, because there are parts
- 9:27Speaker 2: of us that he must inhabit, he won't force his
- 9:34Speaker 2: way in. We have to let him in. How do
- 9:39Speaker 2: we do that? Well, the areas of what we used
- 9:44Speaker 2: to be, we confess and we put that to rest.
- 9:50Speaker 2: The Holy Spirit reminds us that those things no longer
- 9:55Speaker 2: have dominion over us. We we don't have the same problem.
- 10:04Speaker 2: That's not to say that we won't be tempted, and
- 10:07Speaker 2: that's not to say that we would not have the
- 10:12Speaker 2: ability to fall or to sin. But we are quickly
- 10:18Speaker 2: reminded by this indwelling Holy Spirit of our sin, and
- 10:26Speaker 2: then we immediately confess that sin. And the scripture says
- 10:34Speaker 2: that God actually uses this process, that he forgives us
- 10:41Speaker 2: our sin, and then he cleanses us of all unrighteousness.
- 10:48Speaker 2: He sanctifies us holy because he's living in us. He
- 10:57Speaker 2: doesn't run away because we make a mistake or we sin.
- 11:04Speaker 2: He simply lets us see it. Where before we may
- 11:10Speaker 2: not have understood we could have been doing something that
- 11:15Speaker 2: was totally wrong, and yet we thought that it was acceptable.
- 11:21Speaker 2: And so now the Holy Spirit shows us, he leads
- 11:27Speaker 2: and guides us, as the Scripture says, into all truth.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Because of this, the life we live now we live
- 11:39Speaker 2: under the control of the Holy Spirit, not under our control.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And because of that, we want to be able to
- 11:49Speaker 2: allow the Holy Spirit to fill us totally. We just
- 11:55Speaker 2: not are we not just looking at being one portion filled?
- 12:02Speaker 2: We want to be totally filled. But believer, we're not
- 12:07Speaker 2: just speaking of being filled to the brim. We're talking
- 12:12Speaker 2: about being filled to overflowing because with the overflowing power
- 12:19Speaker 2: of the Holy Spirit, we then are able to flow
- 12:25Speaker 2: into others. If you will, we become a conduit, if
- 12:32Speaker 2: you will, a carrier, so that the Holy Spirit can
- 12:38Speaker 2: then infect the lives of others. You know, there are
- 12:44Speaker 2: many types of infectious diseases that we have discovered throughout
- 12:51Speaker 2: this world, but there is an infectious not a disease,
- 12:57Speaker 2: but a condition. It is it's so infectious that anyone
- 13:02Speaker 2: that comes close to it has to be touched by it.
- 13:09Speaker 2: You know, the Scripture says that the world will know
- 13:15Speaker 2: that we are Christians. We are followers of Jesus Christ
- 13:22Speaker 2: inhabited by his spirit. How that will they know? They'll
- 13:28Speaker 2: know because we demonstrate love one to another. Think about
- 13:35Speaker 2: that for just a moment. There's one thing to be
- 13:40Speaker 2: able to proclaim certain messages, but there's another thing to
- 13:45Speaker 2: do the works that Jesus did, and greater works than these,
- 13:52Speaker 2: because he goes to the Father. The thing that we
- 13:58Speaker 2: are looking at in this transforming life that we live
- 14:05Speaker 2: is that daily we are being filled with his presence, constantly,
- 14:12Speaker 2: made aware of his desires, made a vessel that is
- 14:20Speaker 2: fit for his abode. We want to be a pure vessel,
- 14:29Speaker 2: so we don't want to continue in wilful sin. When
- 14:36Speaker 2: we sin now, it will more than likely be and
- 14:41Speaker 2: hopefully will only be a sin of what is referred
- 14:47Speaker 2: to as omission. That means we knew that we were
- 14:53Speaker 2: supposed to do something that would have been good, but
- 14:58Speaker 2: we failed to do it, or maybe we delayed doing it,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and because of that it is sin, and we want
- 15:09Speaker 2: to confess that and allow the Holy Spirit the next
- 15:14Speaker 2: time to show us why he wants us to overcome
- 15:21Speaker 2: that area in our life.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 15:27Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 16:09Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 16:13Speaker 2: It is for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide
- 16:17Speaker 2: us into all truth, and his mission in us is
- 16:25Speaker 2: to bring the truth of the Gospel to the rest
- 16:31Speaker 2: of the world. Because of this life changing power that
- 16:39Speaker 2: inhabits us, we know that the Gospel will be proclaimed
- 16:46Speaker 2: not only in word, but certainly indeed as well. And
- 16:54Speaker 2: that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
