- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:08Speaker 2: And this is me knowing limited about where guys are from.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I'm so bad with like where guys are from. I'm
- 0:14Speaker 2: a child of the world. I'm like, hey, I'm like,
- 0:17Speaker 2: we're all from the same place. I honestly don't. I
- 0:20Speaker 2: thought Jared Caruson was Canadian.
- 0:32Speaker 1: At the beginning of a new journey, it's always exciting
- 0:35Speaker 1: that first single step that you take, and we're taking
- 0:37Speaker 1: it together with all of you. That's right. It's Verkin
- 0:39Speaker 1: de Merz NHL Unscripted. I won the coin flip to
- 0:42Speaker 1: have my name first and to talk first. But I'm
- 0:45Speaker 1: thrilled to be with Jason Verse. I was bout saying
- 0:47Speaker 1: my buddy Jason Mrse but JD, let's be honest, we
- 0:49Speaker 1: have never worked together before. I hear great things. I'm
- 0:52Speaker 1: a big fan obviously. I know we're colleagues at NHL
- 0:54Speaker 1: Network and now colleagues through iHeart and the National Hockey League.
- 0:58Speaker 1: But this is a new foray for us both. I
- 1:00Speaker 1: think you know we were comfortable with podcasts, we would
- 1:03Speaker 1: be comfortable with each other. Let's find up together. Great
- 1:05Speaker 1: to see you, my friend.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's great to meet you is one. Yeah, it's
- 1:09Speaker 2: it's really nice, you know, walking into the makeup room
- 1:12Speaker 2: and seeing you know, you kind of see the picture
- 1:15Speaker 2: of all the you know, we call ourselves talent there,
- 1:17Speaker 2: which is a little funny at the at the MLB network,
- 1:20Speaker 2: but seed you on there and and taking my my
- 1:23Speaker 2: spot in the makeup chair all the time. It really
- 1:26Speaker 2: it's annoyed me a bit so, but it's good to
- 1:28Speaker 2: work with you, and it's it's good to meet you.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I need a little bit more powder, I think the most,
- 1:32Speaker 1: which is why I'm bumping you out of there. But
- 1:34Speaker 1: I think this podcast is gonna be a blast man,
- 1:36Speaker 1: because honestly, we're both huge hockey fans. Of course, you're
- 1:39Speaker 1: a terrific player, played seven hundred games the NHL, and
- 1:42Speaker 1: I've been a fan of my whole life.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But I think now I do now I know you
- 1:45Speaker 2: don't know me if you're saying that.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Play I mean virtually a Nora's Trophy Canada every single season.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But exactly, well, we're gonna be. We're gonna be running
- 1:55Speaker 1: the gamut here, and I think that's what's gonna make
- 1:56Speaker 1: things exciting. We're going all over the place right, movies, television,
- 1:59Speaker 1: pop culture, wrestling, fashion, just stories from you around the league.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be.
- 2:04Speaker 2: A blast for listeners, right yeah, I mean, listen, Let's
- 2:07Speaker 2: hockey is one thing, and it's great, and it's it's
- 2:09Speaker 2: what I do and what I did, but we got
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm more interested in other things. So let's kind of
- 2:15Speaker 2: to the fat a little bit. As the as the
- 2:17Speaker 2: young kids say, or.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The older we'd say, we will be running the gamut today,
- 2:20Speaker 1: they're right. And speaking of things that you may not
- 2:22Speaker 1: be expecting. The kid Marrow our first ever guest, your
- 2:24Speaker 1: first episode NHL in scripted. He has a distinction. It's right, apparently, listen.
- 2:29Speaker 1: He wrote for the Spez. He hosted the Sports Emmys,
- 2:31Speaker 1: which I will be tonight one, so I got to
- 2:32Speaker 1: beat him there. We're gonna have lots of interesting stuff
- 2:35Speaker 1: with him, so I look forward to that conversation with him.
- 2:37Speaker 1: We'll see how much the kid knows about hockey. But
- 2:39Speaker 1: speaking of pucks, let's get into it, man, four nations rosters.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Everyone loves this right the day after you start to
- 2:44Speaker 1: pick it apart. It reminds you of the Emmys, the Oscars,
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Grammys, it's never about who made it, it's who
- 2:50Speaker 1: the snub is. So I guess we'll get to that
- 2:52Speaker 1: in a second. But first, if you just look at
- 2:54Speaker 1: the roster, roll the consensus, I feel like people are saying,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and I'm curious, your take is that the USA is
- 3:00Speaker 1: the favorite generally speaking, you feel like Canad's favorite because
- 3:03Speaker 1: it's hockey. But again, if you look at the roster,
- 3:05Speaker 1: do you think the Americans are the favorite going in
- 3:08Speaker 1: right now?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I put a little pull on Twitter,
- 3:11Speaker 2: but it's so hard to bet against McDavid, Crosby, and
- 3:15Speaker 2: McKinnon on their own, But when they're all together, I
- 3:18Speaker 2: just have such a hard time. I mean, you could argue,
- 3:20Speaker 2: you could argue that they might have America might have
- 3:23Speaker 2: the US might have the best roster put together, like
- 3:25Speaker 2: depth wise, but you know, Canada's got Connor, Canada's got Crosby,
- 3:30Speaker 2: Canad's got mccarr and McKinnon arguably the top four best
- 3:34Speaker 2: players in the league. And you know, you could say
- 3:36Speaker 2: people can come for me and say, oh, there's a
- 3:38Speaker 2: Maats and you know Jack Eichel, But I'm like, those
- 3:41Speaker 2: guys are the pinnacle of Canadian hockey, and I mean
- 3:45Speaker 2: hockey in the NHL, So it's gonna be tough. The
- 3:48Speaker 2: biggest thing for Canada is their goaltending I think is
- 3:51Speaker 2: going to be a big question mark. And for the US,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I mean it's an embarrassment of riches. But listen, Connor Hellibuck.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I love him. He's going to be the starter. You know,
- 4:00Speaker 2: he doesn't a trophy winner, but you know in the playoffs,
- 4:05Speaker 2: shaky in the playoffs he has not really done much yet.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So and this is a small format style, so it's
- 4:13Speaker 2: like it's always different when you're in this tournament style
- 4:15Speaker 2: where it's really so fast, so quick, you don't have
- 4:18Speaker 2: time to build chemistry. You know, I did it at
- 4:20Speaker 2: the Olympics, No big deal, drop my Olympics thing. I
- 4:24Speaker 2: did it at the Olympics in twenty twenty two. You know,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you get five six games and it's so tough to
- 4:30Speaker 2: build chemistry. So and it's really tough for coaching staffs,
- 4:33Speaker 2: like who do you go with for top minutes? Like
- 4:35Speaker 2: if somebody struggles out of the gate, do you stay
- 4:37Speaker 2: with him or do you bench him? So like for Hellibuck,
- 4:40Speaker 2: we all know, everybody knows since twenty eighteen, they have
- 4:45Speaker 2: not won around or one they won run around the
- 4:47Speaker 2: Winnipeg Jets in twenty eighteen. He's a big reason why
- 4:49Speaker 2: he struggled a little bit. The team struggled. But let's
- 4:52Speaker 2: say Game one they get blown out. What do you do.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Do you stick with Hellibuck or do you just jump
- 4:57Speaker 2: right to Otter or or you know? They again they
- 5:00Speaker 2: have swaymen as well. So the goaltending they have is crazy.
- 5:04Speaker 2: So does that help you or hurt you? Because do
- 5:07Speaker 2: you get kind of a little trigger happy and be like,
- 5:09Speaker 2: I want to kind of lean over to these guys
- 5:11Speaker 2: in case anybody struggles. We have this but instead of
- 5:14Speaker 2: being Hella, Buck's the only guy and you have to
- 5:17Speaker 2: ride with him. So it's gonna be interesting to see
- 5:20Speaker 2: how that plays out.
- 5:21Speaker 1: For me, I'm with you because you have to hit
- 5:23Speaker 1: the ground running. There's really not much of a lead
- 5:25Speaker 1: up to it. It just comes to the middle of
- 5:26Speaker 1: the regular season. Who knows who injuries can impact the
- 5:28Speaker 1: rosters from now until then. And you mentioned goaltending. You're
- 5:31Speaker 1: right for Canada. I mean for years you'd say to yourself, well,
- 5:34Speaker 1: no problem, we've got Patrick Watt or mart Tambora, dur
- 5:36Speaker 1: or Kerry Price, and to say Jordan Bennington, Aiden Hill,
- 5:39Speaker 1: Sam Montembeau also making the rosh the lone Montreal Canadian.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I don't think Sam I am is gonna get much
- 5:45Speaker 1: playing time. But you're right, but that's a huge notice.
- 5:48Speaker 1: You go, Wow, Bennington's the best Canadian boy right now.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I know he's had his moments of course one Stanley Cup,
- 5:53Speaker 1: but I'm like that that it just feels like such
- 5:56Speaker 1: a luckdown from years past. To be perfectly honest, well
- 5:59Speaker 1: we'll go for our.
- 6:00Speaker 2: First hot take listen. Bennington and Hill one cups. But
- 6:05Speaker 2: they're not the best goalies right now for Canada.
- 6:07Speaker 1: I don't think, you know, want Cam Talbot on the team.
- 6:11Speaker 2: I mean, can Talbot got hurt. I see Cam Talbot
- 6:13Speaker 2: was never on there for me, even though he was
- 6:15Speaker 2: playing good. I just don't think in the long term
- 6:17Speaker 2: he could have kept going. He's a good goalie. But
- 6:19Speaker 2: the two best goalies right now for Canadian it's Logan
- 6:22Speaker 2: Thompson and DC. He's ten two and one or sorry,
- 6:26Speaker 2: ten to one and two this year, fastest goalie in
- 6:30Speaker 2: Capitol's history to ten wins. He's been unbelievable and he's
- 6:33Speaker 2: a silly Sider he's a little bit he's a little
- 6:35Speaker 2: bit different. He's gloves on the other hand, So that's he's,
- 6:37Speaker 2: you know, a little bit of a mutant in the
- 6:39Speaker 2: goalie world. But then can.
- 6:41Speaker 1: You clarify what a silly sider means?
- 6:43Speaker 2: Just that's a mic Mike ruffism. He said, silly side.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So most goalies are and I gotta get this price,
- 6:49Speaker 2: most goalies are glove hand on the left and when
- 6:53Speaker 2: your glove hand's on the right Logan Thompson. There's a
- 6:55Speaker 2: couple of guys in the league. There's not many silly side.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So he's a little bit of a goof he's a
- 7:00Speaker 2: goofy foot. But no, he's he's number he's been the best.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I thought, that's a huge snub. I know we're not
- 7:07Speaker 2: in you know, I'm jumping the gun on the snubs,
- 7:09Speaker 2: but why not? This is a I could say what
- 7:11Speaker 2: I want now, But Mackenzie Blackwood and Mackenzie Blackwood in
- 7:15Speaker 2: San Jose like I like Sam martinbo like a good job,
- 7:18Speaker 2: you know, congratulations, But he didn't. He was good for
- 7:21Speaker 2: the first, you know, a couple of weeks of the season,
- 7:24Speaker 2: and then Montreal struggled as a whole. So I don't
- 7:27Speaker 2: really want a guy that's lacking confidence. And also for
- 7:30Speaker 2: that third spot. You know, I also teased and I
- 7:34Speaker 2: know a lot of people tease having Mark Andre Fleury.
- 7:36Speaker 2: There have a guy that's been there, done that. Your
- 7:39Speaker 2: third goalie is probably not going to play unless you know,
- 7:41Speaker 2: the Ka Chucks run the Canadian goalies and knock both
- 7:44Speaker 2: of them out. But other than that, you know you're
- 7:47Speaker 2: gonna be You're gonna get through the tournament. It's quick enough,
- 7:50Speaker 2: so why not bring a veteran guy that kind of
- 7:52Speaker 2: keeps it light in the room and it's been there before.
- 7:54Speaker 2: So interesting goalie picks for me for Canada.
- 7:58Speaker 1: By the way, Devil's GM Tom Fitzgerald, also part of
- 8:00Speaker 1: the TUSCA management team, will appear on the next episode
- 8:03Speaker 1: of the NHL at the Rink podcast with their buddies
- 8:06Speaker 1: Dan Rosen and Sean Roarch. Just want to mention that
- 8:08Speaker 1: as well in terms of the four Nations content you're
- 8:10Speaker 1: getting here through the NHL, and iHeart here's the big
- 8:12Speaker 1: one that was talking about because I did the game
- 8:16Speaker 1: in Monday, the Chicago and Toronto and everyone's talking about
- 8:19Speaker 1: Connor Bedard and the fact that Badard is not the
- 8:22Speaker 1: same guy he's been so far on the sophomore season,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and is he not going to make this four Nations
- 8:26Speaker 1: team because the thought process being well, he won the
- 8:29Speaker 1: call the season to go. He is supposed to be
- 8:31Speaker 1: the next big thing, and you put him on the
- 8:32Speaker 1: roster and even if he's not having a great year,
- 8:34Speaker 1: he'll gain that value experience for next tournaments and next
- 8:37Speaker 1: triments because clearly he's going to be a focal point. Instead,
- 8:39Speaker 1: he does not make the team because he has not
- 8:41Speaker 1: had a particularly strong season. But do you think this
- 8:45Speaker 1: is a legit snub? I think it's the right decision. JD.
- 8:47Speaker 1: To me, I'm like, we're trying to win right now.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Like I get the fact that hey, in two years,
- 8:51Speaker 1: four years, he'll be the dude, but I'm like, we
- 8:52Speaker 1: need dudes right now, Like Canda has to win and
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't think and again I'm not putting it all
- 8:56Speaker 1: on him. He's on a bad Blackhawks team. I watched
- 8:57Speaker 1: him up in center. I love Luke Richardson. He could
- 8:59Speaker 1: still play twelve minutes a night for me, but that's
- 9:02Speaker 1: a bad Blackhawks team. He's got like nineteen points in
- 9:04Speaker 1: twenty four games and a bad team. He is the
- 9:06Speaker 1: best player. But has he been great this year? No,
- 9:08Speaker 1: of course not so I think it made sense, but
- 9:10Speaker 1: I get the fact it's a topic of conversation. To me,
- 9:13Speaker 1: that's probably the big one. When people looked at Canada's roster. Wait, no,
- 9:15Speaker 1: Connor Bdard, what say you?
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it was the right decision. I don't. I can't.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I can't justify Connor Bdard making the Team Canada roster.
- 9:25Speaker 2: And listen, he's going to be a star in this league.
- 9:27Speaker 2: He he is. He struggled mightily this year and and
- 9:31Speaker 2: parts of last year. You know, he had the injury
- 9:33Speaker 2: as well last year, So I think just keep him
- 9:37Speaker 2: out of this stress. Let him go get a little
- 9:39Speaker 2: bit of a rest. Listen, there's other guys that have
- 9:41Speaker 2: that have really earned it, you know, Travis Connectney, guys
- 9:45Speaker 2: like that that Seth Jarvis that have really stepped up
- 9:47Speaker 2: this year. And again it's a small tournament. You know,
- 9:50Speaker 2: you're not trying to bring a guy in to give
- 9:52Speaker 2: him confidence like you should never. That should never be
- 9:55Speaker 2: Team Canada's goal. And I think Team Canada really wants
- 9:58Speaker 2: to win this. They want to win everyone. But I
- 10:00Speaker 2: feel like sometimes these you know, nation tournaments, the Olympics,
- 10:05Speaker 2: you get kind of caught up and trying to be
- 10:08Speaker 2: sentimental or please the fans, where it's like, no, we're
- 10:10Speaker 2: best team, best players going right now. Obviously they had
- 10:13Speaker 2: the early announcements they did, which I wasn't a fan of.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I thought it should just be it should just be
- 10:18Speaker 2: the roster. Now, you know, them picking five guys at
- 10:21Speaker 2: the start, you know, two three months ago.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Surprise, you go, McDavid and mccarr's gonna be on the team.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but like you know, us picked like McAvoy and
- 10:30Speaker 2: it's like McAvoy wasn't playing good. Boston was in shambles
- 10:34Speaker 2: at that point, so it's like you really, so he's
- 10:36Speaker 2: on the team, so you're so we're good to go,
- 10:39Speaker 2: Like you know, you could just do whatever you want
- 10:40Speaker 2: and you're on the team. I figured it's like, listen,
- 10:42Speaker 2: there's a lot of good players in the NHL, so
- 10:44Speaker 2: you got to earn it, just like anything else. Obviously,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you got your guys that are gonna be there no
- 10:48Speaker 2: matter what, but there's guys that have to earn it.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So I think Connor's you know, he's got to be fine.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I think he's figured some stuff out and that's The
- 10:57Speaker 2: last thing you want for a tournament like this is
- 10:58Speaker 2: to bring somebody that's figuring it out and trying to
- 11:01Speaker 2: find his game and throw him in the midst of this.
- 11:03Speaker 2: It's gonna be nuts in Boston and Montreal. Like the
- 11:07Speaker 2: fan base, especially when Canada plays the US, it is
- 11:10Speaker 2: going to be crazy. It's gonna be the atmosphere is
- 11:12Speaker 2: gonna be so jacked up. So I don't know, if
- 11:15Speaker 2: you know, let him go to Hawaii or something and
- 11:18Speaker 2: go to Cabo like all the rest of the NHL
- 11:20Speaker 2: players do, and you know they don't, you know, they
- 11:22Speaker 2: don't have any imagination. They just go to the two
- 11:24Speaker 2: of the same places every year and let him enjoy
- 11:26Speaker 2: his pinicilados and get ready for the second, you know,
- 11:30Speaker 2: the last part of the season for Tim.
- 11:32Speaker 1: You say family affair. You mentioned the Kachuk's two sets
- 11:35Speaker 1: of brothers and six sets of NHL teammates, So Jack
- 11:39Speaker 1: Hughes and Quinn Hughes, Brady Kachuk and Matthew Kachuck. You've
- 11:43Speaker 1: also got Chris Crider and Trocheck of the Rangers, Adam
- 11:46Speaker 1: Fox previously named the Canucks, Jets, Bruins, Wild and Vegas
- 11:49Speaker 1: Golden Knights.
- 11:50Speaker 2: All have two players each on the roster.
- 11:52Speaker 1: A lot of focus obviously on the fire power of
- 11:54Speaker 1: this team, Austin Matthews among whose leading it. But the
- 11:56Speaker 1: Wild even they got Matt Boldie and Brock Faber, you know,
- 11:59Speaker 1: the Jets, Kyle Connor, Hallibuck, you afore mentioned, what do
- 12:02Speaker 1: you make of the fact that you've got a lot
- 12:03Speaker 1: of guys You're apparently gonna have chemistry in a tournament.
- 12:05Speaker 1: As we've discussed, you have to hit the round running
- 12:07Speaker 1: right away.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you want chemistry as well. Listen, you want you
- 12:11Speaker 2: want identity for your lines. You don't just want, you know,
- 12:15Speaker 2: random guys put together. So I think there needs to
- 12:18Speaker 2: be a little bit of a earnest effort from the
- 12:21Speaker 2: GM staff and the brain trust there to put put
- 12:24Speaker 2: a group of guys together that also have played a
- 12:26Speaker 2: little bit together. And I think Matt Boldie and Brock
- 12:29Speaker 2: Favor might seem surprising to people, but that Minnesota Wild
- 12:32Speaker 2: team is the best team in the NHL right now.
- 12:34Speaker 2: They're playing so good and those are two big pieces
- 12:37Speaker 2: of that. So I think it's it's good. I love
- 12:39Speaker 2: seeing that. I mean, I'm so excited to watch the
- 12:41Speaker 2: k Chucks play together. I feel like those little two
- 12:45Speaker 2: pieces of shit getting together. Apologize, there's the first swear
- 12:48Speaker 2: word on the podcast. But getting those two.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Together, I think it might might just let it go.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Not sure, might let it go. Who knows. Listen, move over,
- 12:55Speaker 2: Dan Rose and Sean Rourke, all right, uh but listen.
- 12:59Speaker 2: I just think it's it's so fun to see those
- 13:01Speaker 2: two play together. And you know, it's gonna be amazing
- 13:05Speaker 2: to watch him get up and down the ice and
- 13:07Speaker 2: I feel like you have to throw him on the
- 13:08Speaker 2: same line or you know, let him pek together. But
- 13:11Speaker 2: it's so exciting. You know, I'm sure they're gonna love
- 13:14Speaker 2: it playing together. You see how close they are, his
- 13:16Speaker 2: brothers and and you know they're best friends. So I
- 13:19Speaker 2: just think for them, it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 13:21Speaker 2: great for us because they're gonna watching those two. Cause
- 13:25Speaker 2: of Ruckus in front of the night at a whistle
- 13:27Speaker 2: is gonna be. It's gonna be must see TV.
- 13:29Speaker 1: And speaking of Cosy of Ruckus, very famously, what was
- 13:32Speaker 1: it ninety eight Nagana when when the USA team did
- 13:34Speaker 1: not do well and their dad, Keith Kachuk among those
- 13:37Speaker 1: who caused a little bit of mayhem I believe in
- 13:38Speaker 1: the hotel afterwards. So listen, h like father, like son,
- 13:42Speaker 1: that they're like father. Yeah, this on the ice, Rothius
- 13:45Speaker 1: are fired up. You mentioned Minnesota. I want to quickly mention,
- 13:47Speaker 1: speaking of Sweden's roster forward Joel Erickson, Eck Jonas Brodein
- 13:51Speaker 1: and Philip Gustafson among the seventeen players named to fill
- 13:54Speaker 1: out Sweden's roster. So the Minnesota whild being featured everywhere.
- 13:57Speaker 1: That team's got Phil Forsburg, Willie Nilander, I know you
- 13:59Speaker 1: love slick Willy Meek has a beinished by Victor headman
- 14:02Speaker 1: Eric Carlson. So they got their good players. Is there?
- 14:05Speaker 1: And as far as notable stumps for USA, again, like
- 14:08Speaker 1: I said, some of those guys, I'm not sure about
- 14:09Speaker 1: Crowder making it out of the likes of Tage Thompson,
- 14:11Speaker 1: Cole Coffield. I love with the haves. Jason Robertson's a sniper.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But you can make a case for those guys.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, listen, it's a little it's tough. I
- 14:20Speaker 2: think Tage Thompson is one where I was thinking about it.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I'm also you know, if you look at the Sweden roster,
- 14:26Speaker 2: I mean Mika's advantage at hasn't hasn't stopped once this season.
- 14:31Speaker 2: He just it's a flyby everywhere and I don't think
- 14:33Speaker 2: he's he's stopped anywhere net front or dezoned. So and
- 14:37Speaker 2: he's not tournament he's not. Yeah, I mean, he's not
- 14:41Speaker 2: gonna be backchecking. So but it's just hopefully he this
- 14:44Speaker 2: sparks him a little bit for the Rangers. But he
- 14:46Speaker 2: hasn't been great and I'm sure he knows that. But yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 2: Tage Thompson would have been a nice one to see
- 14:50Speaker 2: a big body can shoot it. But that's so tough.
- 14:54Speaker 2: You know. You're also gotta think of like the coaching
- 14:56Speaker 2: staff that's there, who do they like. They're also have
- 15:00Speaker 2: an input, you know, they might not like his styles.
- 15:04Speaker 2: So it's really becomes you look at you know, Canada
- 15:07Speaker 2: with Cooper, like there's there's a couple of guys from
- 15:09Speaker 2: the Tampa Bay Lightning. You know, you got Cirelli and
- 15:11Speaker 2: you got Hegel and they've been great, you know, But
- 15:14Speaker 2: I that's also from his understanding of knowing how they play,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and that's going to help the team, I think, because
- 15:20Speaker 2: for a short form tournament, you want the guys to gel.
- 15:22Speaker 2: The quickest together.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah, three lightning players and that team. You can joke
- 15:26Speaker 1: and say, Okay, they're just hanging with mister Cooper, but
- 15:28Speaker 1: you're right. Yeah, makes sense that he would pick guys
- 15:30Speaker 1: who he has chemistry with. And as far as the
- 15:32Speaker 1: Finns are one of your classic shows, well as far
- 15:35Speaker 1: as feeling is concerned, Patrick Loney finally made his debut
- 15:37Speaker 1: for the Habs. Got a great reception there. There's nothing
- 15:40Speaker 1: better than watching game of the bell Center. He was
- 15:41Speaker 1: able to at least performance since they had that lower
- 15:44Speaker 1: body injury in the preseason. But his debut with the
- 15:46Speaker 1: Habs on Tuesday.
- 15:47Speaker 2: His his acl was in the tenth row. It seemed
- 15:50Speaker 2: like it. I think I cannot believe credit his ligaments
- 15:54Speaker 2: or his bones because I cannot believe he didn't tear something.
- 15:57Speaker 2: And it was it was a slower you know, it
- 15:59Speaker 2: was a lot less time than we thought. I thought
- 16:01Speaker 2: he was done for the season. So but man, I
- 16:05Speaker 2: listened to somebody talk the other day. They were like,
- 16:08Speaker 2: it's the same aura that like Alexei Kovalev had when
- 16:12Speaker 2: he was there. And I remember Covilev. You know, I
- 16:13Speaker 2: grew up in Montreal. I've been and went to the
- 16:15Speaker 2: Habs games forever. You know, I booed with all the
- 16:18Speaker 2: other fans anytime they had a bad game, and you know,
- 16:22Speaker 2: cheered when they won. So but yeah, he's just got
- 16:25Speaker 2: It's weird. It's like when when the Canadians fans, the
- 16:28Speaker 2: Montreal people take to a player and he even he's like,
- 16:32Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell's going on. He's like,
- 16:33Speaker 2: these people love me, and he's probably at home, like,
- 16:35Speaker 2: what did I even do? I'm wearing pajama pants, you know,
- 16:39Speaker 2: as my at my opening day taking a picture and
- 16:41Speaker 2: you know, maybe that's why he just he's real to
- 16:44Speaker 2: them and they like that. He's kind of been, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 2: very candid with all the fan base there, and obviously
- 16:51Speaker 2: they love a high skilled player that you know, can
- 16:56Speaker 2: shoot the puck like he does. You know, they have Coffield,
- 16:59Speaker 2: they have him, but it's just crazy how they've taken
- 17:01Speaker 2: to him. And I mean that's only going to help him.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I think he's a guy that needs calm fidence and
- 17:05Speaker 2: you see him in that game, how happy he is
- 17:07Speaker 2: to play there and wants to be there. And that's
- 17:08Speaker 2: the beauty about the Montstrucknan fan base. You know, they
- 17:12Speaker 2: it's a it's a blessing and a curse. It's the
- 17:14Speaker 2: best place to play if you're winning, and if you're losing,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I mean you're gonna get yelled at in the street
- 17:18Speaker 2: at the grocery store to you know, chip the puck
- 17:21Speaker 2: out or not not let goals in and things like that.
- 17:23Speaker 2: So I just feel like it's a cool it's a
- 17:26Speaker 2: cool moment for him and somebody that's struggled and and
- 17:29Speaker 2: kind of been, you know, in some bad dark places.
- 17:32Speaker 2: He's I mean, he's looking like he's loving life right now.
- 17:35Speaker 1: JD. I like the fact you were giving like really
- 17:37Speaker 1: thoughtful analysis.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Well we're rambling.
- 17:40Speaker 3: We just cut off.
- 17:41Speaker 1: So we just want pointed analysis, critical mean spirit if
- 17:45Speaker 1: need be top five, biggest snub so I don't I
- 17:47Speaker 1: think you. I agree, But Dart is not a snub
- 17:49Speaker 1: because you shouldn't have made the team. But he is
- 17:51Speaker 1: a snub because people were talking about but whatever you want,
- 17:53Speaker 1: he's not the top five. It's not a snub. Okay,
- 17:56Speaker 1: But I'm gonna say Cole Cawfield is a snub. How's that?
- 17:59Speaker 2: You're nuts?
- 18:00Speaker 4: No?
- 18:00Speaker 2: I ah, now I didn't. Yeah, I don't believe that.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Thompson the snub all right, Number one Thompson.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I'm also gonna I'm gonna go because obviously McAvoy was
- 18:13Speaker 2: picked early. I was gonna say, John Carlson. I think
- 18:16Speaker 2: John Carlson not getting consideration.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Our buddy, our buddy, you know, Joe, Gabby all over.
- 18:21Speaker 1: John Carlson loves with the Caps. He says, lead the
- 18:24Speaker 1: team in ice time every night.
- 18:25Speaker 3: He goes.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Carlson's actually good pick.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I'm with you them. Yeah, that's a that's a Catherine tapping.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I gotta give her a shout out because they posted it.
- 18:32Speaker 2: She posted our little group chat. I was like, oh yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 2: John Carlson, you don't need John Carlson. Off Cale mccarr's there.
- 18:38Speaker 2: I just forgot for a second that he's that he's
- 18:41Speaker 2: not Canadian. That's just traveling, you know. Fifteen days of monsage,
- 18:46Speaker 2: just like who's who's not making it be yet? John Carlson,
- 18:49Speaker 2: I think is one that should have been considered.
- 18:51Speaker 1: All right, So Tage Thompson, John Carlson, can I throw
- 18:54Speaker 1: Owen tip atatcha who else we got?
- 18:56Speaker 2: Come on, give me another snub Logan Thompson. Logan Logan
- 18:59Speaker 2: Thompson getting snubbed is a big one on the goaltending
- 19:02Speaker 2: do it and I'm listen. The other one I was
- 19:05Speaker 2: going to say is on the Swedish roster is Willy
- 19:08Speaker 2: Ecklund from San Jose Sharks, you know, and this is
- 19:10Speaker 2: me being a home run the same.
- 19:12Speaker 1: That feels like, Yeah, I mean, but I see him
- 19:14Speaker 1: every night. I see him every night. I thought you,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I thought you'd go Ohel, Oliver Ekman, Larson.
- 19:19Speaker 3: He was.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I have to because he's my buddy. But you know
- 19:21Speaker 2: that that Swedish roster on the back end is pretty stacked.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not a fan of Eric Carlson like
- 19:29Speaker 2: overall as a player, but for this kind of tournament,
- 19:32Speaker 2: he's he's perfect, and you know he's going to be
- 19:35Speaker 2: a good I don't know if he's going to be
- 19:36Speaker 2: the seventh or the sixth, but I mean, I think
- 19:38Speaker 2: Oel winning a cup. The way he's kind of adapted
- 19:41Speaker 2: his game, he could play anywhere you need. Yeah, he'd
- 19:44Speaker 2: be one for me as well.
- 19:45Speaker 1: All right, So I've got your five is Tage Thompson,
- 19:47Speaker 1: John Carlson, Logan Thompson, Willy Eckland, one more to go,
- 19:50Speaker 1: Steven stamcoach John Tavares. The only other guy.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I mean the finish roster. They're dead in the water.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I don't even they they can't even field enough Defenseman.
- 20:04Speaker 1: There's nine finished defense from answer maybe ten. You're right
- 20:07Speaker 1: about that. I believe there's ten they got Like, we
- 20:09Speaker 1: gotta get these guys in what.
- 20:11Speaker 2: I'm going I'm going to get my finished passport tomorrow.
- 20:14Speaker 2: If the Finland Finland Ambassadors there, If you can give
- 20:17Speaker 2: me my finish passport, I will play for your team.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Because Yanni Hackinpa.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Well, Jason Demurz's name be if he was finished, I
- 20:23Speaker 1: want people to love this know and social. How could
- 20:25Speaker 1: we get him in there as memory team Feah, you
- 20:27Speaker 1: have to pick one of these fins as a snop.
- 20:28Speaker 1: This is your five My rules, Yes, Sperry Koka, Nami,
- 20:31Speaker 1: Mattias Masselli, Yanni hockenba Oli Mata or Yonis Corposolo.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I mean Mitchelli because it's another Homer pick. I think
- 20:39Speaker 2: Mattias Mitchelli is a fantastic hockey player. I think he's
- 20:42Speaker 2: kind of hidden in Utah. But you know that would
- 20:44Speaker 2: be Mattias Mitchelli. Yeah, I love it.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Jason Demurs's top five snubs Tae Thompson, John Carlston, Logan Thompson,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Willie Ecklin, and my Man Mattiss Michelli.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And this is me knowing limited about where guys are from.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I'm so bad with like where guys are from. I'm
- 20:58Speaker 2: a child of the world. I'm like, hey, I'm like,
- 21:01Speaker 2: we're all from the same place, and everybody's like, you know,
- 21:03Speaker 2: I don't even know who's from Canada half the time.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I just I honestly don't. I thought Jared Carleson was
- 21:10Speaker 2: Canadian for a second, just because I you know, it
- 21:12Speaker 2: is what it is.
- 21:13Speaker 1: I think you should have run with that, just like
- 21:15Speaker 1: him and maccar together be great. He's not kidding, No,
- 21:16Speaker 1: I'm saying if he was Canadian.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Yeah, just oh you should. You should have seen our chat,
- 21:20Speaker 2: you know, were our producers on the chat were just like, uh,
- 21:24Speaker 2: John Carrelson's American. I'm like, oh yeah, so let me
- 21:26Speaker 2: do this again. No, I don't think John Carlson should
- 21:29Speaker 2: be I'm like, oh yeah him for McAvoy. Yeah, I
- 21:34Speaker 2: can walk it back easily.
- 21:36Speaker 1: That's our thoughts fodations. When we come back, we're going
- 21:39Speaker 1: to discuss what's happened so far on the NHL the
- 21:41Speaker 1: quarter pole mark of the season, surprises, disappointments and so on. Plus,
- 21:45Speaker 1: as Jad mentioned, because he was born and raised in Montreal,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I wanted to do the teas in French, so I
- 21:50Speaker 1: just do the teas in English. Still to come here
- 21:52Speaker 1: in NHL unscripted, we're gonna discuss the surprises and disappointments
- 21:55Speaker 1: of the NHL so far at the quarter pole mark
- 21:57Speaker 1: the season. Now you do it all front set.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Oh, you can't put me on the spot in French.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Come on, you must be bilingual from what you grew up.
- 22:03Speaker 2: The ken's in that. What would be with the call?
- 22:10Speaker 2: I don't even know call point of the season. You can't.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Hey, you can't tell me.
- 22:14Speaker 2: I'm living in the States. Tell me to go speak
- 22:16Speaker 2: fluent French. Off the cuff, verba.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Great and quarter quarter pole mark? You nail it? Give
- 22:21Speaker 1: me quarter pole mark again?
- 22:22Speaker 2: No quarter pole mark. I have no idea in French.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I don't know that the vates sang mag's this. I
- 22:31Speaker 2: thought it's a quebecue. Hey, unscripted, Hey lis Angela, Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 2: I just looked up in French what it's quarter pole
- 22:49Speaker 2: and it's sondagel and there's no chance in hell I
- 22:54Speaker 2: would ever got that. I don't care who is out there.
- 22:58Speaker 2: You can revoke my Quebec City card. It is fine.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Uh, but yes, give me one more time.
- 23:04Speaker 5: So Priel, there's somebody listening going, yeahright, gimmick.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Yeah, those are Kleb So I love you.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I love what Kelly said, all right, and disappointments. I
- 23:22Speaker 1: look at the Eastern Conference right now. To me, I'm
- 23:25Speaker 1: astound of the fact that the Washington Capitals and the
- 23:28Speaker 1: New Devils. I mean that the thirty six points each.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Jad Capital's probably a little bit more for me because
- 23:32Speaker 1: I would have said to myself a year ago, they're
- 23:34Speaker 1: going to battle for the playoffs. Ovechkin will get to
- 23:36Speaker 1: Gretzky's record, but he's gonna limp to the finish, right,
- 23:39Speaker 1: He'll get a bunch of power play time. Twenty twenty
- 23:41Speaker 1: five goals. No, the guy who was a house on
- 23:42Speaker 1: fire was on pace for fifty five almost sixty goals,
- 23:45Speaker 1: second best goal pace of his career. And the Capitals
- 23:47Speaker 1: collectively of a great team. I did not expect them
- 23:49Speaker 1: a top the Eastern Conference. To me, that's the biggest
- 23:51Speaker 1: surprise right now.
- 23:53Speaker 2: The biggest surprise is he's skating two weeks after he
- 23:56Speaker 2: busted his leg. The guy's got he's on some kind
- 23:59Speaker 2: of Russian gas. But no, my uh, my big surprise
- 24:04Speaker 2: West would be Minnesota Wild. You know, I didn't think
- 24:07Speaker 2: that team would put this together that fast. I mean, listen,
- 24:10Speaker 2: they got to they have some great youth, but they've
- 24:13Speaker 2: just been incredible. I mean, gust Of sin in the
- 24:16Speaker 2: in net, you know, arguably having a Vesna like year,
- 24:19Speaker 2: and and Caprisov, who is going to be getting that
- 24:23Speaker 2: bag now because he is worth every penny. And if
- 24:27Speaker 2: I'm Billy g Billy garrant, it's a Billy guarantee that
- 24:30Speaker 2: you're paying him as much money as he wants to
- 24:33Speaker 2: keep him there. So I think I think it's it's
- 24:36Speaker 2: a definite. That's a big surprise. And then you said Jersey.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I wasn't Jersey. I had him, I had him back
- 24:44Speaker 2: at the network early in the season. Yeah, I'm dropping
- 24:46Speaker 2: the network as wells I work everywhere, and like I
- 24:49Speaker 2: had them at the top of the league, So I
- 24:50Speaker 2: had the Devils at the top of the league. So
- 24:52Speaker 2: I'm not surprised the Capitals, I'll agree with you. Yeah,
- 24:55Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm surprised but again, moves that we thought
- 25:00Speaker 2: were going to be junk that you know, thought they
- 25:02Speaker 2: were rebuilding that is working out up great, which it
- 25:05Speaker 2: just shows that we know absolutely nothing.
- 25:07Speaker 1: No, it doesn't mean that you're a smart gut obviously,
- 25:09Speaker 1: capriceaff right now the leader for the Heart. I mean
- 25:12Speaker 1: everyone knows he's a talented player. But that's impressive that
- 25:14Speaker 1: right now the Wild are the best team in hockey
- 25:16Speaker 1: at least by points. Back to the East because you
- 25:18Speaker 1: mentioned you thought the Devils would be good, so we
- 25:20Speaker 1: got Caps, Devils, Leafs, Hurricanes, Panthers, no surprises there. The
- 25:24Speaker 1: Bruins a disappointment until they bring Joe Sacho and all
- 25:27Speaker 1: of a sudden he's turned things around where Monty could not.
- 25:30Speaker 1: So they're better now. They're don't look at Bruins hockey.
- 25:32Speaker 1: And then it gets to the disappointments. You got the
- 25:34Speaker 1: Rangers right now, barely a point above average per team.
- 25:37Speaker 1: They're twenty seven points twenty four games, the Flyers are
- 25:40Speaker 1: tied with them. Then you go Lightning, Pittsburgh. I would
- 25:42Speaker 1: include Pittsburgh JD although they've now won four straight games,
- 25:45Speaker 1: and to me that would have been an easy biggest disappointment.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But they're playing better hockey right now. So I'll ask
- 25:50Speaker 1: you Penguins are Rangers bigger disappointment in the East?
- 25:54Speaker 2: Rangers. I just think Pitt, you can't keep rolling out
- 25:57Speaker 2: the same thing and expecting a different you know something.
- 26:00Speaker 2: They have no goaltending. They just not that these guys
- 26:02Speaker 2: are bad. They're just a lot of injury and it's
- 26:05Speaker 2: just been topsy turvy. And they also don't play defense.
- 26:07Speaker 2: But for me, it's the Rangers all day. I think
- 26:11Speaker 2: you talk about a team that they go and lose
- 26:13Speaker 2: to Florida, they get out class in the playoffs, they
- 26:16Speaker 2: come back, they don't really change anything other than getting
- 26:18Speaker 2: rid of Barklay Goudron, freeing up some money. They don't
- 26:21Speaker 2: really do anything. They expect everybody to take a step forward.
- 26:24Speaker 2: It doesn't happen, and now everybody's staring at themselves being like, wow,
- 26:27Speaker 2: we have such a great team, and it's like, yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: you have good players, but you didn't really move the
- 26:34Speaker 2: needle in the offseason to address the needs, which was
- 26:37Speaker 2: grit which is huge, and just shoring up the back end.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I think they're back in has some holes, you know.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I love listens he battles hard. Ryan Lindgren battles hard,
- 26:48Speaker 2: but asking him to play top two minutes early in
- 26:51Speaker 2: the season and even you know at times now that's
- 26:53Speaker 2: asking him too much. He's a good third pairing guy,
- 26:56Speaker 2: so they really expected a lot of Candre Miller, but
- 26:59Speaker 2: Cawndre just hasn't taken that step. So but I look
- 27:02Speaker 2: behind the bench and I look up top. I think
- 27:04Speaker 2: there's needs to be I think Peter Love let hot seed.
- 27:09Speaker 1: For me.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yeah, for me, it's hot seed. I listen. Lavvy is great,
- 27:13Speaker 2: fantastic coach. Hear great things about him, but I feel
- 27:16Speaker 2: like sometimes he does this a lot of places. You know,
- 27:19Speaker 2: two three years he comes hot out of the gate
- 27:21Speaker 2: and then the message kind of gets watered down a
- 27:23Speaker 2: little bit. So I think he's on the hot seat.
- 27:25Speaker 2: He needs to change something. I think he needs to
- 27:28Speaker 2: either throw some chairs at somebody or you know, take
- 27:32Speaker 2: away ice time. That's the only weapon you have as
- 27:34Speaker 2: a coach, is ice tyme. So I really do think
- 27:37Speaker 2: for me, he's on the hot seat. I mean you
- 27:38Speaker 2: look at the NHL now, I mean you have Jim
- 27:41Speaker 2: Montgomery's getting fired after having like two of the best
- 27:44Speaker 2: seasons statistically, so like nothing. So then I look at
- 27:48Speaker 2: other teams that are struggling, and I'm like, I mean,
- 27:52Speaker 2: everything's nothing's off the table anymore.
- 27:54Speaker 1: So do you think that, Chris Drury, Because I'm with you,
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think the Rangers have to do something major on
- 27:59Speaker 1: the verge of a shakeup, whether or not that's Lavvy
- 28:00Speaker 1: or move What about moving at Chris Quider? Is that insane?
- 28:03Speaker 1: I've heard some about that.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Well.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Number one, you get your house in order, like anytime
- 28:11Speaker 2: there's a leak, and I know, I understand it's it's
- 28:13Speaker 2: good for TV, but leak in Jacob Truba early in
- 28:18Speaker 2: the season that you want to trade him? He's your captain.
- 28:21Speaker 3: AD.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Then how does he go in the room and yell
- 28:24Speaker 2: at you know, za bandage Ad who you know hasn't
- 28:27Speaker 2: really given us a great shift this year. And listen,
- 28:30Speaker 2: Meek is a great player. Not an indictment on him
- 28:32Speaker 2: as a as a player a person, but he hasn't
- 28:34Speaker 2: had a good year. It's it's easy, we could see it.
- 28:37Speaker 2: But how does he go and yell at him? You
- 28:39Speaker 2: know he's gonna yell at hey, me could pick it up.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Me's a big You're you're gone, And you know at
- 28:44Speaker 2: the trade deadline, you know, if it's possible. So so
- 28:47Speaker 2: I do think that it's just that was mismanaged. But
- 28:51Speaker 2: I don't think getting rid of a Crider is going
- 28:53Speaker 2: to solve anything. He's one of your big bodies that
- 28:56Speaker 2: goes to the net, you know. I for me, it's
- 28:58Speaker 2: a coppo cacko. You got to give away somebody of
- 29:01Speaker 2: youth that's going to get you something back, so that
- 29:04Speaker 2: that would be for me and throwing Ryan Lindgren in
- 29:07Speaker 2: the mix with that as well.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So the last you mentioned, I agree with the Minnesota
- 29:11Speaker 1: is a pleasant surprise. Other than that, yeah, Vegas is great,
- 29:14Speaker 1: Winnipick is great. I don't think we expected Winnipick be
- 29:16Speaker 1: that great out of the game. But they've you.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Know, struggled. They've struggled.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Now they've they came back eighteen and eight now after
- 29:21Speaker 1: a seventeen and one start.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Well can you just think of those numbers I was
- 29:25Speaker 2: looking at last night. They were started the year fifty
- 29:28Speaker 2: to know and they are not first in the West.
- 29:31Speaker 2: That's how good Minnesota has been. They're not even first
- 29:34Speaker 2: in the West. They started fifty to know and they've
- 29:36Speaker 2: struggled recently. Really, they can't find their game. I think
- 29:39Speaker 2: they need to move on the back end as well.
- 29:41Speaker 2: I think they really caught you know, I'm always a
- 29:44Speaker 2: fan of off the start at the start of the season.
- 29:46Speaker 2: The teams that the most details are always the best
- 29:49Speaker 2: coming out of the gate, and they're a very detail
- 29:51Speaker 2: oriented team new coach and Scott o'neils, So they threw
- 29:54Speaker 2: some wrinkles at teams. I think people didn't know, but
- 29:57Speaker 2: now I think they need to. They're they've covered up
- 30:00Speaker 2: their issues, and their issue, I think is depth on
- 30:02Speaker 2: the back end. And then obviously either goaltending down the stretch,
- 30:06Speaker 2: it's just gonna be what can Hella Buck do come
- 30:09Speaker 2: playoff time?
- 30:10Speaker 1: And that's why I was thinking earlier in the year
- 30:12Speaker 1: and they had that incredible start, I'm like, hey, rest
- 30:14Speaker 1: him a little bit, right, Like, I know he's a workhorse,
- 30:16Speaker 1: but like, ease up a little bit, because, as you said,
- 30:18Speaker 1: everyone knows he's not hell on wheels come playoff time.
- 30:20Speaker 1: But now we have to come back.
- 30:22Speaker 2: To he's not Hella Buck on wheels. He's the kind
- 30:26Speaker 2: of thing trying to throw a pun in there. I like,
- 30:29Speaker 2: I didn't know you could do that. This is we're
- 30:31Speaker 2: learning so many things about each other.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Most disappointing teams. I'm gonna go either Colorado at twenty
- 30:37Speaker 1: eight points through twenty six games out their middle of
- 30:38Speaker 1: the pack, because you go Minnesota, Vegas, Winnipeg, La, Dallas, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton,
- 30:43Speaker 1: the three Canadian teams lumped together, and then you got
- 30:45Speaker 1: the Avalanche or I think another easy pick would be
- 30:48Speaker 1: the Predators, who have the second lowest point. Barry Trots
- 30:51Speaker 1: is getting crushed right now. When I've looked at the
- 30:52Speaker 1: pread Shady, I say, that's a slow team like that.
- 30:55Speaker 1: They don't have much foot speed. They're veteran Layden yet,
- 30:59Speaker 1: so they don't have much youth going for them. Like
- 31:00Speaker 1: there's there's a lot of disappointment there. For me, Nash
- 31:03Speaker 1: will be the biggest disapoint I don't think it's it's
- 31:05Speaker 1: too late necessarily, because again there's so much parry right
- 31:07Speaker 1: now in the NHL, but the Avalanche would have expected
- 31:10Speaker 1: more of But the Prads, I don't even know how
- 31:11Speaker 1: you fix that. You're Barry Trotz right now.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, the Avalanche, for they were just so banged
- 31:16Speaker 2: up to start the year and they have so many injuries,
- 31:18Speaker 2: and obviously Nishushkin we know all the details with that,
- 31:21Speaker 2: so yeah, you know, they lost a lot of big
- 31:23Speaker 2: horses that it kind of hurt him. I think they're
- 31:25Speaker 2: gonna be fine. I mean, Nashville, it's crazy. I mean,
- 31:28Speaker 2: that's just you know, when we looked at the we
- 31:30Speaker 2: looked at the money being spent, and we're like, they're
- 31:32Speaker 2: bringing in some big names, you know stam Cos Marciusso
- 31:35Speaker 2: Brady Shay. But what ended up happening is we didn't
- 31:38Speaker 2: really look at it deep enough where it's like they
- 31:40Speaker 2: brought in a lot of the same player. They didn't
- 31:42Speaker 2: really They got rid of a lot of their character
- 31:45Speaker 2: and they brought in you know, Marciussa and Stamko's similar
- 31:48Speaker 2: player in the sense of their shooter. First, you know,
- 31:51Speaker 2: Marshal is probably a little bit harder than Stammer, but
- 31:53Speaker 2: two guys that are kind of the same. And then
- 31:55Speaker 2: you look at Brady Shaye. That's a guy that wants
- 31:57Speaker 2: to lug the puck like Romanosi. And then they just
- 32:00Speaker 2: kept trying to force feed Romanosi and Brady Shaye together,
- 32:02Speaker 2: which I did not understand for the life of me.
- 32:05Speaker 2: You can't put two guys that want to hold onto
- 32:08Speaker 2: the puck all game together because there's just there's only
- 32:11Speaker 2: one puck out there. They can't fight over it. So
- 32:13Speaker 2: I thought they had to utilize their depth more and
- 32:15Speaker 2: then listen, they for some reason, Dante Fabreau fell out
- 32:20Speaker 2: of the he drew the ire of the coaching staff.
- 32:24Speaker 2: But he goes to Columbus. He's got six eight points
- 32:28Speaker 2: and ten games like he's on fire. So it's like
- 32:31Speaker 2: they just made a lot of mistakes that I don't
- 32:33Speaker 2: think they thought we we all thought they would do.
- 32:37Speaker 2: But you know, and obviously Barry Trot's God love him.
- 32:39Speaker 2: He gives the media, he gives us all us rats,
- 32:43Speaker 2: all the you know, all the cheese we can eat
- 32:44Speaker 2: with with good quotes. But I mean he needs to,
- 32:48Speaker 2: you know, stop getting into the media and talking. Just
- 32:50Speaker 2: just go take care of the team and make sure
- 32:53Speaker 2: that everything's make another trader or do something. But they're dead.
- 32:58Speaker 1: They're dead in the wall. Ill's done. You called him
- 33:01Speaker 1: do away right now. There's a stat in the listen.
- 33:04Speaker 2: I'm I'm a stat space guy as well, like no
- 33:07Speaker 2: team that started zero to five is since two thousand
- 33:10Speaker 2: and five two and six has made the playoffs. Wow, yeah, OK,
- 33:13Speaker 2: so they would be the first. So they would be historic,
- 33:17Speaker 2: just like this podcast History. It's like this.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Podcast Historic BOK and it jells me. I like that
- 33:21Speaker 1: The Predators and HLN scripted both going where you wouldn't expect. Well.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Speaking of having a blast, Rangers broadcaster Steve Allaqett, who
- 33:28Speaker 1: I don't know, my buddy Bill Peta loves him, and
- 33:29Speaker 1: I love Billy p Alpito's unbelievable Valeqet blasted devil star
- 33:35Speaker 1: Jack Hughes for his one hint of breakaway move on
- 33:38Speaker 1: New York colten Or Igor Sisterkin, accusing of disrespectful and
- 33:41Speaker 1: playing quote Instagram hockey. Jack Hughes said he doesn't know
- 33:45Speaker 1: what that means. I don't know what it means either,
- 33:47Speaker 1: but I like it to be clear. I know what
- 33:49Speaker 1: it means. But I just like them guys, Barry guys,
- 33:52Speaker 1: so quite honestly, I'm on team Ballackett, even though I
- 33:54Speaker 1: don't know what means.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Poor Rangers, They're just they're searching for something. Even the
- 34:00Speaker 2: even the commentating crews like, we got to do something here,
- 34:02Speaker 2: we got to go after. They just went after the
- 34:04Speaker 2: Rangers too much. They're trying to go after I listen,
- 34:06Speaker 2: don't give up a breakaway number one. I want to
- 34:10Speaker 2: pile on Steve Aliquette, but he's been getting absolutely buried
- 34:13Speaker 2: by everybody. Like in the league. I saw Sue Ban
- 34:16Speaker 2: did something and I'm like, he's been getting destroyed. It's
- 34:21Speaker 2: just like you. It's like this kid that puts her
- 34:23Speaker 2: hand up in class and like, hey, I got something
- 34:25Speaker 2: to say. Shut the hell up, Shut the hell up,
- 34:28Speaker 2: shut up. It's just all But I mean, I just
- 34:32Speaker 2: I thought it was a bad take. You know, listen,
- 34:34Speaker 2: he's had a lot of good takes, but unfortunately in
- 34:36Speaker 2: this industry, I've realized one bad take in your you're
- 34:40Speaker 2: no One's that.
- 34:41Speaker 1: He's forever gonna be known for this.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Now he's forever known as Yeah, he's gonna live in infamy.
- 34:47Speaker 2: But no, I think, listen, this is how we grow
- 34:50Speaker 2: the game. Unfortunately, this is where the league is. It's
- 34:52Speaker 2: not so fighting forward as it used to be. Obviously,
- 34:55Speaker 2: there's some huge, great heavyweights in the NHL, but we're
- 34:58Speaker 2: you know, we're skilled first, and Jack Hughes is at
- 35:03Speaker 2: the forefront of that. So I think it's it was
- 35:05Speaker 2: good that he's trying that play. And I mean, Schusterkins
- 35:08Speaker 2: is that good of a goalie that he did not
- 35:09Speaker 2: bite on it at all, and that's what he Valcet
- 35:12Speaker 2: should have been saying as a goalie, been like, hey,
- 35:14Speaker 2: suck it, Jack Hughes. You think you're good, No you're not,
- 35:17Speaker 2: and said he was like an old man yelling at
- 35:19Speaker 2: the clouds, which you know now I'm piling on him.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Shut up, shut up. But you're right he never ought
- 35:24Speaker 1: to be that get off my long guy, especial because
- 35:26Speaker 1: valcqetsund like an old guy, like he was like seventy two,
- 35:29Speaker 1: saying forty seven or something, and he jock him out
- 35:32Speaker 1: of his grave. He's like, I don't expect that kind
- 35:34Speaker 1: of behavior, Like okay, fine, but I'm like, he said,
- 35:37Speaker 1: it's forty guys, what are you talking about?
- 35:39Speaker 2: Like why, I know, what's he watching Downtown Abbey at
- 35:42Speaker 2: night or something? Who knows? Just an old guy now. Anyway,
- 35:45Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Steve. I love you, Steve. I mean, keep going.
- 35:49Speaker 2: I heard he's a great guy, so it's just so bad.
- 35:52Speaker 2: I have heard good things.
- 35:54Speaker 1: On a serious note, before we get to our guests,
- 35:55Speaker 1: Powerful night Tuesday in Calgary, Johnny and Matthew Gadrow both
- 35:59Speaker 1: honored Flames and Blue jackets, wearing Goodrow Jerseys chanting Johnny
- 36:03Speaker 1: Hockey towards the end of the win, Gee Gadro being there,
- 36:06Speaker 1: of course, his dad, with Michael Backl, Rasmus Anderson. The
- 36:09Speaker 1: post commuterview was it was amazing sight.
- 36:11Speaker 3: JD.
- 36:12Speaker 1: It's still tough to process it. I still can't believe
- 36:15Speaker 1: that those guys are gone. But it was really a
- 36:17Speaker 1: really special night, really made you feel how hockey does this.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I feel like better than anybody, embracing that whole community.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it's such a small community, and it's like six
- 36:26Speaker 2: degrees of separation.
- 36:28Speaker 3: You know.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I never met Johnny, but I knew countless people that
- 36:32Speaker 2: were close friends with him. So I've heard a million
- 36:35Speaker 2: stories about him and his brother as well, And so
- 36:38Speaker 2: it's such a tragedy and we're kind of saying it's
- 36:41Speaker 2: like what happened with Kobe and the NBA. It's the
- 36:43Speaker 2: equivalent of that, Like everybody came together, you know, I
- 36:46Speaker 2: love And that's what's so great about the hockey community
- 36:49Speaker 2: is the organizations are bringing in his family, making sure
- 36:53Speaker 2: they're okay. People are reaching out. I mean, you saw
- 36:56Speaker 2: the moment with Craig Conroy as well. It just so
- 36:59Speaker 2: it breaks your heart. But the only way kind of
- 37:03Speaker 2: through this is all to gain and that's what we're
- 37:05Speaker 2: seeing from the NHL, and not just the the organizations,
- 37:09Speaker 2: the teams, with the league as a whole. So in
- 37:12Speaker 2: the fan base, I mean, the fans have been so
- 37:14Speaker 2: incredible and I'm sure have helped in the healing process.
- 37:17Speaker 2: And it's going to be a long grieving process for
- 37:19Speaker 2: all of us and more so for their family. So
- 37:21Speaker 2: but yeah, it's just he was an inspiration, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 2: to such a generation of players, the cole cawfields, the
- 37:28Speaker 2: smaller players that weren't, you know, physically imposing, but their
- 37:33Speaker 2: game was imposing. So I just feel like it's it's
- 37:37Speaker 2: great to see and for as sad as it's all
- 37:40Speaker 2: has been, there's been some some some light at the
- 37:43Speaker 2: end of the tunnel of us coming together as human
- 37:46Speaker 2: beings at the end of the day, that's what we are.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It's it's not NHL, it's human beings coming together and
- 37:51Speaker 2: supporting each other, which I think has just been beautiful
- 37:54Speaker 2: to watch.
- 37:56Speaker 1: It's all sad, it was a tough night. I certainly
- 37:57Speaker 1: we appreciate all the contributions from the Gadrill family to
- 38:01Speaker 1: the great sport of hockey. Still to come. Here on
- 38:03Speaker 1: NHL unscript we're talking to the Kid Mirror Sports Emmy Awards,
- 38:07Speaker 1: talking Hockey's favorite live hockey moment, getting a fight with
- 38:10Speaker 1: Pedro Martinez, the Major League Baseball Celebrity Game, all that coming.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Up next you get whooped, we'll.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Ask him about it. Next debut episode of NHL in
- 38:26Speaker 1: scripted and our first ever guess it's right inaugural guests,
- 38:29Speaker 1: it's a big one. The Kid Mirror joining us right now.
- 38:32Speaker 6: Kay, great to see you man, Thanks, thanks for giving
- 38:35Speaker 6: listen to the star power.
- 38:36Speaker 1: I cannot know. It's great to see you.
- 38:40Speaker 2: Man.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Listen. We go way back, and that's not just an expression.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I'm been here Sports Sports Emmy Awards there with the
- 38:47Speaker 1: MLB tonight and I said to my boss can I come?
- 38:49Speaker 1: And he's like, yeah, it's a the kid BARROWSSTI. He said,
- 38:51Speaker 1: we're not gonna win. We want to go. That's fine.
- 38:53Speaker 1: With the second last category, Outstanding Studio Show Daily And
- 38:56Speaker 1: you said here's the nominees. You're playing at the envelope
- 38:58Speaker 1: and then you said the MLB goes to which was
- 39:01Speaker 1: a dead giveaway. You're supposed to say the Emmy goes.
- 39:03Speaker 3: To but.
- 39:05Speaker 1: You said, the MLB goes. That's because we're the only
- 39:10Speaker 1: the only baseball show with Sports Center, NFL Live, NBA Countdown.
- 39:13Speaker 1: We beat them all. I gave you a giant hug
- 39:15Speaker 1: when I got to the stage. It was one of
- 39:17Speaker 1: the best moments of my life. I got to share
- 39:18Speaker 1: it with you.
- 39:19Speaker 3: Come on, man, you know like now you got hardware?
- 39:22Speaker 3: You know not.
- 39:23Speaker 4: I'm sure you flexed on Thanksgiving on everybody, hopefully without question.
- 39:28Speaker 1: And there's the thing I read Meryl Streep with his
- 39:30Speaker 1: three Academy Awards. She keeps one of them in the
- 39:32Speaker 1: living room because people walk in there go where's your oscar?
- 39:34Speaker 1: I never wants to see it, and they want to
- 39:35Speaker 1: make a speech, take a picture. So I'm just gonna
- 39:37Speaker 1: brandish my Emmy and my living room in the bathroom. Right.
- 39:40Speaker 1: People go to the bathroom, they want to do their speech,
- 39:42Speaker 1: look in the mirror while they do it.
- 39:43Speaker 2: But I'm surprised, and I'm surprisy and bringing on the
- 39:46Speaker 2: show today, yeah, shared off air, and that's all I
- 39:49Speaker 2: talked to me said, well, I got an Emmy, guys, exactly.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Seriously, kid, you did you did an amazing job. And
- 39:58Speaker 1: that is a tough job. As any of the three
- 40:00Speaker 1: of us. Know, like when you're hosting award show, because
- 40:03Speaker 1: half people they just want to get to their award,
- 40:05Speaker 1: half of them are hungry, half of them are not.
- 40:07Speaker 1: How did you approach it? Southing monologue was great, you're
- 40:09Speaker 1: making jokes about sports, you're making jokes, but cultural events,
- 40:12Speaker 1: how did you approach it?
- 40:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 40:14Speaker 4: Man, so honestly, I think it was just the experience
- 40:19Speaker 4: of having of being on stage, you know, doing comedy shows,
- 40:22Speaker 4: doing live stuff where you have to interact with the audience,
- 40:26Speaker 4: and like, yo, if there's something goes wrong, you got
- 40:28Speaker 4: a vamp, you know.
- 40:29Speaker 3: What I mean.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Like I did a lot of F one coverage, like
- 40:33Speaker 4: a season or two ago with Michelle Beatle where we
- 40:36Speaker 4: did Silverstone and there was like a rain delay and
- 40:38Speaker 4: it was.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Ninety minutes of like vamping.
- 40:41Speaker 4: So it's like you gotta hold people's attention, you gotta
- 40:43Speaker 4: keep people engaged, and like comedy is to me, I mean,
- 40:46Speaker 4: like I may be biased, you know, not like a
- 40:49Speaker 4: dramatic actor, but I feel like comedy is one of
- 40:51Speaker 4: the best ways to keep.
- 40:51Speaker 3: People engaged and stuff. You know, so like just keep
- 40:54Speaker 3: on telling jokes, keep hey, crowd work, Hey buddy.
- 40:57Speaker 4: Like, yo, homie right there, Like I don't know who
- 41:00Speaker 4: you are. You might be the president of ESPN, I
- 41:02Speaker 4: do not know, but you going in on you for
- 41:05Speaker 4: that bow tie, you know what I mean?
- 41:06Speaker 1: Ye specific jokes to the audience. So it was like
- 41:10Speaker 1: mentioning Taylor Rooks or mentioning the fact that Greg Olsen
- 41:13Speaker 1: is now losing his job for tom right now. That
- 41:16Speaker 1: was very topical stuff.
- 41:19Speaker 4: I was like, I was glad I was on stage.
- 41:21Speaker 4: I was like, listen, I coached pee wee football. I
- 41:23Speaker 4: don't want to know more contacts. I'm good, Like those
- 41:26Speaker 4: days are over.
- 41:27Speaker 2: What you talked about coaching pee wee football and I
- 41:30Speaker 2: and I heard I heard you talking about something and
- 41:34Speaker 2: seeing ex athletes with their kids and having them coach.
- 41:37Speaker 2: You're talking about Cole Beasley and and how intense he
- 41:40Speaker 2: is with within that whole you know, system of it.
- 41:43Speaker 2: How is that having a pro athlete, ex pro athlete
- 41:47Speaker 2: is like you're coaching the kids and he's a fan,
- 41:50Speaker 2: like a fan essentially of his own kid.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Bro. It's the funniest thing because.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Part of you is like, Okay, you know, I'm here
- 41:57Speaker 4: with my kids, you know, trying to just.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Be like president Dad, you know, like pillar.
- 42:03Speaker 4: In the community, you know what I'm saying, helping out
- 42:05Speaker 4: and like it's like, bro, I don't do this, like
- 42:07Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like if you wanted me
- 42:09Speaker 4: to run a comedy workshop, like I'm not going to
- 42:11Speaker 4: go in there and be like, yo, Dave Chapelle, listen,
- 42:13Speaker 4: this is how you do this. You know. Hey, any Murphy,
- 42:15Speaker 4: let me give you some tips, you know what I mean.
- 42:18Speaker 4: So I'm telling I'm looking at it like, hey, buddy,
- 42:21Speaker 4: like if you maybe you know, I know, you don't
- 42:24Speaker 4: want to get your dear sweats to dirty, maybe, but
- 42:27Speaker 4: if you do, maybe.
- 42:28Speaker 2: He's wearing a sweatsuit cold Bass wearing a der sweatsuit
- 42:34Speaker 2: at the sports Oh, I love it.
- 42:39Speaker 4: It's a lot and it looks light light flex, you know, like,
- 42:43Speaker 4: but it was it was to me, it was it
- 42:45Speaker 4: kind of bucked me out because it's like, you know,
- 42:47Speaker 4: where I live now, it's like there's a lot of
- 42:49Speaker 4: x NFL guys and they're they're they're very involved with
- 42:52Speaker 4: like the like the local football program, which is great,
- 42:54Speaker 4: you know, but then also it's just like what am
- 42:57Speaker 4: I going to tell you?
- 42:57Speaker 3: You know what I mean? I see something and you
- 43:00Speaker 3: see something. I'm deferring to you.
- 43:03Speaker 2: You're probably He's probably right. Hey, I think your kid
- 43:07Speaker 2: should should not be moving that way. It's like, I know,
- 43:10Speaker 2: I got it, I got it. Thanks, I think I
- 43:12Speaker 2: do this.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I got paid ten million dollars to do this
- 43:15Speaker 3: last year. How much you do you get paid to
- 43:16Speaker 3: run a fade? You know what I'm saying? Zero dollars.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I love the fact, kid, you mentioned the past. How
- 43:24Speaker 1: old men in the Dominican Republic follow hockey status religiously.
- 43:27Speaker 1: How does that happen?
- 43:28Speaker 4: Yes, because here in America we have recently well well
- 43:34Speaker 4: I mean in nationwide, we have recently legalized wagering on sports,
- 43:39Speaker 4: and the Dominican Republic wagering on sports has always been legal.
- 43:43Speaker 4: So nothing will motivate you to learn how many points
- 43:47Speaker 4: Miroslav Chatan has in the season. Then a little scratch,
- 43:52Speaker 4: you know what I mean. So that was literally the
- 43:55Speaker 4: anecdotal story was me. So they're called bankas in dr
- 43:58Speaker 4: like you can just walk into like a little kiosk
- 44:00Speaker 4: and like put in you know, fill out a ticket
- 44:02Speaker 4: with whatever, parlay whatever. And I saw a guy in
- 44:05Speaker 4: there taking the over on Mirrorslapshtan goals for like at
- 44:11Speaker 4: thirty or something like that.
- 44:12Speaker 3: He had forty that year. I was like, damn.
- 44:14Speaker 4: I was like, hey, Bartolo hit it like I'm seeing
- 44:19Speaker 4: this guy full on a ticket and it's like mirror slaps.
- 44:22Speaker 4: I was like, what it's like buffalo sity the whole night.
- 44:25Speaker 4: I was just like, Yo, this guy does not speak
- 44:28Speaker 4: a word of English. Where are y'all are you? How
- 44:31Speaker 4: do you get NHR network here in the Dominican Republic
- 44:35Speaker 4: via satellite?
- 44:35Speaker 3: Like what are y'all doing?
- 44:37Speaker 2: Oh man, hey, it's so great having you on. Tell
- 44:40Speaker 2: us a little bit, like about what you got going
- 44:42Speaker 2: on now? And I mean you're doing You're it's crazy
- 44:45Speaker 2: looking at your just your depth of work and how
- 44:49Speaker 2: much you hustle and what's what's going on now? And
- 44:51Speaker 2: what do you got kind of cooking on the on
- 44:54Speaker 2: the stove right now?
- 44:56Speaker 3: Oh baby.
- 44:57Speaker 4: So recently, like just a couple of months ago, you know,
- 45:00Speaker 4: very quietly launched my YouTube channel. It's at according to
- 45:04Speaker 4: the Kid on YouTube. I have a show called According
- 45:06Speaker 4: to the Kid, which is me just giving sage advice,
- 45:09Speaker 4: you know what I'm saying to the youth and also
- 45:12Speaker 4: to grown men like y'all. You know, so everybody. Just
- 45:14Speaker 4: advice for everybody. Takes galore, you know, because that's what
- 45:18Speaker 4: people love me for. And also I have Victory Lights
- 45:22Speaker 4: the podcast with my Steam co host Rainyo Vayet and
- 45:25Speaker 4: lisabell Or Tis two very very funny New Yorkers like myself.
- 45:30Speaker 4: I am passing the torch because I'm washed. I'm a
- 45:33Speaker 4: forty year old man and I live in New Jersey.
- 45:35Speaker 4: I see more deer than trains nowadays.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Shout out fair line, Shout out fair Line.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Big shout out shout the river Road bagels. You know
- 45:44Speaker 3: what I'm saying. Free hot sign is on pull over.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Get you some free bagels. Yeah, uh you know, ah
- 45:52Speaker 2: my fuck yeah Victor.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Oh that man.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Victory like victory like productions man, where like I'm I'm
- 45:57Speaker 4: running and ripping.
- 45:58Speaker 3: Man. I'm just from doing media for so long, you know.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I I hate just kind of staying on one place.
- 46:05Speaker 4: So I love to just kind of like be an octopus,
- 46:09Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like in the water, not
- 46:11Speaker 4: on the boat, because when you pull it onto the
- 46:12Speaker 4: boat it looks weird. It's just like but in the
- 46:15Speaker 4: water looks like very you know, the teas are everywhere
- 46:18Speaker 4: and it's touching everything.
- 46:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm the sexy activists in the water, not on
- 46:22Speaker 3: the boat.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Yeah kid, I well, you've worked with a lot of
- 46:25Speaker 2: athletes too, Like you worked at Mellow and a bunch
- 46:28Speaker 2: of other guys, and you've interviewed a bunch of guys
- 46:30Speaker 2: Like I'm an ex athlete, you know me, and they
- 46:33Speaker 2: threw me and Aden together. We're joking before that we
- 46:36Speaker 2: probably have as much screen time together as we do
- 46:38Speaker 2: with you right now, so like we're all best friends.
- 46:40Speaker 2: But you got any advice for like ex athletes getting
- 46:43Speaker 2: into this game and getting into the social media side
- 46:46Speaker 2: and the branding side, which you do so well.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean so my thing really is like every
- 46:53Speaker 4: athlete is kind of their own brand, right, like the
- 46:58Speaker 4: the any league, not just the NHL, Like any league
- 47:01Speaker 4: doesn't survive without good players, you know what I mean,
- 47:04Speaker 4: Like people just showing up. Like if if listen, man,
- 47:07Speaker 4: if A V and I like showed up tomorrow and
- 47:10Speaker 4: we suited up, the NHL might go under, you know
- 47:13Speaker 4: what I'm saying, Like a man, it might.
- 47:17Speaker 3: Be a novel, It might be a novelty for like
- 47:18Speaker 3: a wait, yea, look at these bums, bro.
- 47:20Speaker 4: They didn't even skate, right, but then it would it
- 47:23Speaker 4: would quickly quickly decline.
- 47:25Speaker 3: So that being said, you know, guys like you are
- 47:28Speaker 3: the brands, you know what I mean.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Like, so it's very important to just kind of be
- 47:32Speaker 4: who you are at all times, you know what I'm saying.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Like me, I'm Merrow all day, no matter what. You know.
- 47:39Speaker 4: I could be at a charity event, I could be
- 47:40Speaker 4: the sports semans, I could be at the at the NHL,
- 47:44Speaker 4: you know, like at.
- 47:45Speaker 3: The game seven of the Stanley Cup. I'm me, you know.
- 47:48Speaker 3: And uh, speaking of Stanley Cups. You know what I'm saying,
- 47:50Speaker 3: we might you know what I'm saying, Double doubles looking
- 47:52Speaker 3: good this year.
- 47:53Speaker 1: So you're a devil, span ye devil you ask you wait?
- 48:01Speaker 1: Sark in the background.
- 48:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's that's Hendricks, you know what I'm saying.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Named after the most Yes, my man and Jimmy Hendricks.
- 48:12Speaker 4: And I also called him Henny because I'm a connoisseur
- 48:14Speaker 4: of the kognak and he is a cava shut, which
- 48:20Speaker 4: is a weird cavalier something mixed with something else. And
- 48:26Speaker 4: I was just like, I don't care. I'm just not
- 48:27Speaker 4: paying for a dog, Like if this dog was abandoned
- 48:30Speaker 4: by somebody, I'm gonna be benevolent and take you into
- 48:33Speaker 4: my home.
- 48:34Speaker 3: And now Hendricks is part of the family.
- 48:36Speaker 2: What's what does he does? The Hendricks got any weird
- 48:39Speaker 2: quirks because rescue dog, there's always My mom's got a
- 48:42Speaker 2: lot of rescue dogs and they always got one weird quirk,
- 48:44Speaker 2: like they bark at the moon or something like when
- 48:47Speaker 2: they see it. Just some weird stuff.
- 48:49Speaker 4: He is super gangster when he is faced with a mirror.
- 48:55Speaker 4: When he sees a mirror, he turns into the most
- 48:58Speaker 4: He turns it into a cane corso. He is the
- 49:01Speaker 4: big Kujo when a mirror you know what I mean.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Which my older dog Brownie recipes It was not like that.
- 49:10Speaker 4: It was a lap dog shitsu, very calm. Henny is
- 49:14Speaker 4: running to the door. There's Amazon package like for everything,
- 49:21Speaker 4: which is which is new to me because I'm like
- 49:23Speaker 4: city guy, little dog guy, you know, like Puerto Rican
- 49:27Speaker 4: tht guy. You know what I'm saying, Like Puerto Rican
- 49:28Speaker 4: Thti sized dog like little Yorkis and stuff.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Things that you can put in the shopping cart, you know.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Or speaking speaking of pipples. That was what Pedro Martinez
- 49:39Speaker 1: was on the mound. The fact that you got into
- 49:43Speaker 1: a fight with Major League Baseball celebrity game. I mean,
- 49:46Speaker 1: tell me all about that.
- 49:47Speaker 4: So, by the way, pro segue dog like that was
- 49:52Speaker 4: like that was like I don't know if it slid
- 49:57Speaker 4: into home and just stood up like yeah, I think
- 50:00Speaker 4: that was that was that was that was that smooth.
- 50:03Speaker 2: So they're paying the media bucks.
- 50:08Speaker 1: And mean war funny.
- 50:09Speaker 4: Okay, that's right, don't throne on them.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Oh my god, oh damn, you'd be lest one and.
- 50:14Speaker 1: I forgot the godamn question Pedro dropping the clubs Select forty.
- 50:20Speaker 4: So we're in the tunnel right, and I'm like I'm
- 50:23Speaker 4: saying to Pedro because like Pedro and I have worked
- 50:26Speaker 4: together on MLB Network before and we have like a
- 50:28Speaker 4: little poor and I've always say like, you're my uncle.
- 50:31Speaker 3: My last name is Martinez. Your last name is Martinez.
- 50:33Speaker 4: I'm a Yankee fan born and bread you are, you know,
- 50:39Speaker 4: like ah, I've called the Met's legend Pedro Matin. Yeah,
- 50:45Speaker 4: you know Montreal xphones legend Bedrom Wantinez.
- 50:48Speaker 3: Uh. So we're in the tunnel and I'm just like yo,
- 50:52Speaker 3: like I'm saying, oh, it's the Spanish.
- 50:53Speaker 4: I'm just like yo, you know, it'll be crazy I
- 50:55Speaker 4: was like, listen, I'm gonna pinch hit and I'm just
- 50:58Speaker 4: gonna just plunk me, bro, Like, don't worry, like I
- 51:00Speaker 4: could take it.
- 51:01Speaker 3: I got four kids, man, they jump all over me
- 51:02Speaker 3: all the time. Just just plum in the butt and
- 51:05Speaker 3: I'll just rush around and we'll get into it.
- 51:07Speaker 4: It'll be like Yankee's Red Socks, like Revival and like
- 51:10Speaker 4: you just grabbed me by the head and.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Throw you know what I'm talking about. Yeah, yeah, recipes
- 51:16Speaker 3: Dot Zimmer.
- 51:17Speaker 4: And to Pedro's credit, he was just like buppy, he's
- 51:23Speaker 4: he is passed away. I don't know if that is
- 51:26Speaker 4: respectful to do. And I was just like, wow, that's
- 51:28Speaker 4: that's real, bro. I respect that. I was like, you
- 51:30Speaker 4: know what, that's true. Plunk me either way, you know
- 51:33Speaker 4: what I'm saying. We can skip the head stuff, you
- 51:35Speaker 4: know what I mean. But like, either way, I want
- 51:37Speaker 4: to beat you up on TV and just like let's
- 51:40Speaker 4: go for it. So the other people around were not cooperating,
- 51:43Speaker 4: and I was just like the time, like, hey, y'all, we're.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Gonna clear the pitches when Pedro plugs me.
- 51:48Speaker 4: And I think Bobby Bows was the only one that
- 51:49Speaker 4: was like okay.
- 51:52Speaker 7: No, one helped you out, Jeez, Camp the dug out,
- 51:56Speaker 7: like help me out.
- 51:57Speaker 2: If I was on the ice, it came out and
- 51:59Speaker 2: helped you.
- 52:00Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. And that's your brand, Jay, Like
- 52:03Speaker 3: you're the bro. You're a team guy. You know what
- 52:06Speaker 3: I'm saying. Yeah, I needed a Jason Devils. I needed
- 52:12Speaker 3: a se spathe there. I need a team guy.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Oh man, speaking of teams, And you're and and I'm
- 52:20Speaker 2: gonna try a segue here, like ad Nan doesn't see
- 52:22Speaker 2: how good it is. But you're in New York, you know,
- 52:25Speaker 2: born and bred. You look like you're a trader going
- 52:27Speaker 2: to the Devils right now. But you know, back in
- 52:29Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, you you did some NFL draft stuff
- 52:32Speaker 2: for the Giants at the sphere. Do you do you
- 52:35Speaker 2: want to do something like that for the Rangers or
- 52:37Speaker 2: now the Devils? Like little help him out the draft?
- 52:39Speaker 2: How would that look for you?
- 52:41Speaker 3: I would love to announce the pick for the.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Devils because my believe it or not, my first live
- 52:48Speaker 4: hockey game was a New Jersey Devils game and it
- 52:51Speaker 4: was it was Devil's Flyers, which.
- 52:54Speaker 3: You know is it's an intense rivalry.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Yeah, big shout out to my neighbor Star Ros, who
- 53:00Speaker 4: was just like, hey, you want to come to a game?
- 53:01Speaker 3: And I was like sure.
- 53:03Speaker 4: I've never been to a live hockey game because, like
- 53:05Speaker 4: you guys don't like you know, as as media as players,
- 53:11Speaker 4: the game is different live than it is on TV.
- 53:15Speaker 3: Especially hockey.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Hockey is one of those sports that's definitely a different
- 53:19Speaker 4: experience when you're there in the building, kind of like baseball.
- 53:22Speaker 3: So I was like, okay, I go to the game.
- 53:26Speaker 4: And this jersey that I'm wearing today, I don't know
- 53:29Speaker 4: if you guys see the number, if you could just
- 53:30Speaker 4: under the guests who.
- 53:32Speaker 3: Yeah, big big p K, you know.
- 53:34Speaker 2: And I saw.
- 53:37Speaker 3: The Supernator. I was like, oh, I was like, black guy,
- 53:41Speaker 3: let's go.
- 53:42Speaker 1: I was like, that's how minority do with hockey.
- 53:48Speaker 4: Yeah, that's my guy. That's my guy. And then and
- 53:50Speaker 4: I realized I was like, oh, so it's p K.
- 53:52Speaker 4: I was like, it's the guy. You know what I'm saying. Like,
- 53:55Speaker 4: So immediately went to the team store. I got the jersey,
- 53:58Speaker 4: was up there, my kids rolled the zamboni like and
- 54:01Speaker 4: you know, I was like, this is wild, this is in.
- 54:04Speaker 3: I am locked in the Poutential Center. People the rock
- 54:08Speaker 3: that showed me mad love. All the staff there was like, yo, merrow,
- 54:10Speaker 3: what's up baby? Well Ken danien Co signed like eighteen
- 54:13Speaker 3: punks from me?
- 54:14Speaker 8: Ken Dan Yes, he said, like thirty punks from my
- 54:24Speaker 8: kids had Every single one of my kids has thirty
- 54:26Speaker 8: Ken Ken bucks.
- 54:27Speaker 1: You know I love that. The King, Yeah, King locked
- 54:32Speaker 1: in the last team before I let you go. Since
- 54:34Speaker 1: JD played hockey, kid, is there any questions? Any hockey questions?
- 54:38Speaker 1: When it asked Jason Devers, how about it?
- 54:40Speaker 3: Yes?
- 54:40Speaker 4: So what determines like, Yo, I'm fighting this guy, Like
- 54:46Speaker 4: we are gonna fight right now?
- 54:48Speaker 3: Like what is it? Is it?
- 54:49Speaker 4: Like?
- 54:50Speaker 3: Is it? You know?
- 54:50Speaker 4: Like in baseball it's like, yo, the pitcher has hit
- 54:53Speaker 4: our best hitter, So now when their best hitters up
- 54:56Speaker 4: to bat, we're gonna plunk them. And hockey, what is
- 54:58Speaker 4: the rules of engagement when it's time to fight.
- 55:02Speaker 2: Well, there's there's a couple it. It depends on the
- 55:06Speaker 2: score of the game. Sometimes you're trying to get a
- 55:08Speaker 2: spark for your team. Sometimes you're down to nothing. The
- 55:10Speaker 2: boys look dead, they're flat. You guys all went out
- 55:13Speaker 2: the night before, and then everybody's a little hungover and
- 55:15Speaker 2: you start the game and you're down to nothing right away,
- 55:17Speaker 2: so guys go, hey, someone's got to do something. Typically
- 55:20Speaker 2: there's a guy designated, but it depends it can be anybody.
- 55:23Speaker 3: Then.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Also, if one of your guys gets hit, So if
- 55:26Speaker 2: I saw Pedro giving you the business, I'm probably coming
- 55:30Speaker 2: to help you because that's what you gotta do. You're
- 55:32Speaker 2: as a team of five on the ice, they say,
- 55:34Speaker 2: you know, defend us five, but also like stick together.
- 55:37Speaker 2: And then also just like you know, just for fun.
- 55:40Speaker 2: Some guys, you know, some of the guys do it
- 55:42Speaker 2: for fun. You know, the guys are just like, hey,
- 55:45Speaker 2: you know, you just don't like a guy. And I mean,
- 55:47Speaker 2: I I've my favorite fight I had as I fought
- 55:50Speaker 2: at Madison Square Garden. It only lasted like ten seconds
- 55:53Speaker 2: because I went up against Chris Kreider, and you know,
- 55:56Speaker 2: it's just so funny because I'm going like this and
- 55:58Speaker 2: I'm like getting sad, and literally I fell like five
- 56:02Speaker 2: seconds in and it just was because somebody got hit
- 56:04Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm gonna go fight him because
- 56:06Speaker 2: he hits somebody and I'm gonna protect my teammate. But
- 56:09Speaker 2: it's it's so nerve wracking, but it's so great, and
- 56:12Speaker 2: but it really there's so many factors, but the biggest
- 56:15Speaker 2: one that typically happens is after somebody gets hit and
- 56:17Speaker 2: you're protecting your teammate for sure. So if ever you
- 56:20Speaker 2: see a boy, it's just like you're it's your homeboy
- 56:21Speaker 2: helping you out. It's just that's that's really what it is.
- 56:23Speaker 2: It's it's nice, you're you're somebody chirps you, hits on you,
- 56:29Speaker 2: runs you over. You need a buddy to come and
- 56:31Speaker 2: help you out, and then at least you know that.
- 56:33Speaker 2: Typically when that happens, though, you know next time you
- 56:36Speaker 2: got to do it. So you're like, make sure not
- 56:39Speaker 2: a you know, a big guy that's gonna beach up
- 56:42Speaker 2: is somebody that gets sick because I I mean I
- 56:43Speaker 2: fought five six times, and four of the five was
- 56:46Speaker 2: against like a heavyweight and we're literally the guy was like,
- 56:49Speaker 2: the guy's like, are you sure? And I was like,
- 56:52Speaker 2: when you hear somebody tell you are you sure? This
- 56:56Speaker 2: is the scariest line ever. If you're sitting there in
- 57:01Speaker 2: the street in life, if you're like, hey, like let's
- 57:03Speaker 2: fight and somebody's like you sure, I'm like, I'm not anymore?
- 57:06Speaker 2: Not sure? I was, Yeah, I got the wheels beat
- 57:11Speaker 2: off me too after those four times. So every time
- 57:14Speaker 2: somebody said, are you sharing at the wheels beat off?
- 57:17Speaker 4: And the craziest thing is you're forgetting one very important
- 57:22Speaker 4: factor in hockey fights is that you.
- 57:25Speaker 3: Are on ice skates.
- 57:27Speaker 4: Guy, fighting is hard enough like just pavement, like on
- 57:31Speaker 4: flat ground. You know what I'm saying, Like, I want
- 57:33Speaker 4: to combat sports. You know what I'm boxing. We saw
- 57:36Speaker 4: the Jake Paul Mike Tyson's debacle.
- 57:38Speaker 2: You know whatever that was. I'm ruined. That's that set
- 57:43Speaker 2: us back.
- 57:44Speaker 3: That was terrible. I saw Mike Tyson's butt. You know
- 57:47Speaker 3: what I'm saying.
- 57:49Speaker 2: The highlight, the highlight Mike Tyson. But's the best.
- 57:56Speaker 4: And that's hard. So you guys are doing it on skates.
- 57:58Speaker 4: So shout out to you, man, because every winter we
- 58:02Speaker 4: go out and the kids are like, yeah, let's go
- 58:03Speaker 4: to the rink, let's go skate, And I'm like okay,
- 58:05Speaker 4: and I'm and I'm holding out to the little thing
- 58:07Speaker 4: that's shaped like a bear to stay on my feet
- 58:10Speaker 4: and I'll fall, you know me, And while my kids
- 58:12Speaker 4: are doing triple axle peer, let's a kid.
- 58:14Speaker 1: This was awesome man. Once again, victory lights we support
- 58:17Speaker 1: and on YouTube at the kid listen. I always love
- 58:21Speaker 1: your stuff, man, and I can't thank you enough for
- 58:22Speaker 1: coming on our first episode. I've seen it study of
- 58:25Speaker 1: forty two with see aeron the crew. Hopefully we'll see
- 58:27Speaker 1: you on MLB Network and also NHL Network.
- 58:29Speaker 2: This was awesome.
- 58:29Speaker 3: Let's do it baby.
- 58:31Speaker 4: According to the kid on YouTube, don't forget, Let's get it.
- 58:34Speaker 1: Hey Go Devils.
- 58:36Speaker 9: Yeah, wow, the kid Marrow was fantastic, A great guy.
- 58:50Speaker 2: It's so good.
- 58:51Speaker 1: I mean, JD. He brought the energy, it brought the passion.
- 58:54Speaker 1: I love the hockey stories like a legit sports guy
- 58:56Speaker 1: and obviously a very funny guy as well.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean he just texted me on the side
- 59:00Speaker 2: he said, do I does he want to take over
- 59:02Speaker 2: for you?
- 59:03Speaker 1: And then oh my god, he wants to do the show now?
- 59:06Speaker 1: That me the first thing ever.
- 59:10Speaker 2: He's yeah, he was, Uh, he's great, man. I mean,
- 59:13Speaker 2: I you know you kinda I'm so new to this,
- 59:16Speaker 2: like and you've been doing this. You're I mean, you're
- 59:18Speaker 2: a pro. You're you're a king. I'm gonna give you
- 59:20Speaker 2: your flowers here, but.
- 59:21Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 59:22Speaker 2: It's it's you always think you research these people too,
- 59:24Speaker 2: you know them a little bit and then you see
- 59:25Speaker 2: how how great a people they are and how everybody's
- 59:28Speaker 2: just hustling. So it's cool. It was cool. It was great, awesome,
- 59:31Speaker 2: very very organic.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Oxford University Press is announced the word of the year
- 59:36Speaker 1: for twenty twenty four is brain rot. How is that
- 59:39Speaker 1: the word of the year.
- 59:41Speaker 2: It's two words exactly, that's the front of the two words, right,
- 59:45Speaker 2: break that down term.
- 59:48Speaker 1: Yeah, the Oxford University Press.
- 59:49Speaker 2: It's you can't get anything right, eh.
- 59:54Speaker 1: First prexit and now this it's this brain rot said.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Brain rod is the catch all term for bizarre and
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: semi uninten eligible extremely online language. That's what brain rod is.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's essentially what our culture has become,
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: which is and listen, we need some of that brain
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: rod to be staring at our show to listen to this,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: so hopefully we get some of that, we get some
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: of that buzz. But yeah, I mean, I mean, look
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: at all the kids out there. I mean, you can't
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: somebody can't even hold conversation for seven seconds and it's
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: just immediately your eyes go down and you're like, oh,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: what's on this on the phone? So yeah, brain rod,
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: I we did have to put the words together. But yeah,
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: I'd say it's not bad.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Now here's the big one to ask. We buried the
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: leader because I love movies. I love going to the movies.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: Had a podcast called stin a Fhile, and your wife
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: is an actress. And not only an actress, she's an
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: esteemed actress. She's on Broadway right now. So this topic
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: is big. Moviegoers have sparked a heat a debate about
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: movie theater etiquette as people are singing along at screens
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: of the smash at Wicked. Now, because I'm a member
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: of the Broadcast Film Crek Association the BFC, I get
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: the screeners sent to me, so I all, yeah, a
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: little bit, a little bit of a flex, so I
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: get I get once a year, exactly, I can already
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: even he sent to me, I'll bring I get those two.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: You get the wife, I guess. So I have Wicked,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: but I don't need to go to the theater to
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: watch it, so I can watch it whatever at my
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: own time. But what do you think about somebody being
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: so invested, so excited they're singing along? Is this acceptable
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: or is it not cloel? Because hey, I'm trying to
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: watch a movie here, pipe down.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: Go to a concert if you want to sing along,
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: or go to a go to a goddamn karaoke place
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: if you want to sing along, Like, don't stop. The
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: movie theater is the last place where we can sit
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: in silence and people are off their phones and just
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: enjoy the experience. Just enjoy the gosh darn experience. Please,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: that's all I ask of you.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: It's Wicked.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Let them sing, you know, go to go to a
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: Taylor Swift concert and Ariana Grande concert and then sing
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: along there. Just enjoy it. But let the people that
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: are trying to just decompress in the dark and just
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: relax and contemplate their lives, let them listen to Wicked
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: and get a little but a joy, just a touch
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: of joy. That's it.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I couldn't read more. There's nothing worse than when you're
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: I mean, I guess people sing along and be bad,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: but nothing worse than you're at a movie. You can
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: just feel the light of all people on their phones
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: and stuff, like you you came to a movie to
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: go text your friends to go post an ig Like,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: that's that's so garbage.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: That's one in the second one is talking in general
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: to movie when somebody goes, yeah, wuld they say it's like, no,
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: go rewatch it? Then I need I'm in it. Go
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: if you missed it, do not lean over to me
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: and say who's that? Okay, we're not watching the same
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: movie then, but just rewatch it. Google it at the
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: end of the movie.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: The last thing I wanted to mention to you because
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: you know Vinyl'iley National Breadner Center. He recently announceds an
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: album of children's music coming out Athletes and music. I mean,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Adam Wayne Wright. I work with MLB Network. He's a
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: country music guy. Now, I mean, are you a music god?
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Do you have any issues with I mean, do you
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: know Ryan's singing ability? Is this? Is this cool?
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: He's I played with them at World Championships and know
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: him a little bit, and he would, you know, we'd
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: go out for dinner and I'll be hanging out in
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: the room after and he would just take his guitar
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: and riff songs. And he literally had a song called
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: gluten Free that was hilarious and I wish I think
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: he might have lyrics to it, but he could just
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: sit and riff and we'd all sit and have like
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: a sing along together. And as funny as that sounds
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: and it's Kumbaya, and as weird as a bunch of
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: hockey guys sitting in a room having a sing along,
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: it was pretty damn cool. So people being like that's weird,
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: it wasn't. It was very cool. But yeah, he's so
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: talented and I'm excited. I actually didn't know he was
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: doing that, so I saw that on the NHL network,
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: and I mean, I think it's cool. I think there
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: needs to be more branching out. You just talk to
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: kid Mehra about branding, and you are a brand. You
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: are the business. As an athlete, you need to extend
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: yourself outside of the sport because it's the one thing.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: You know, it's finite your time in the NHL or
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: in sports, like you're eventually you can't beat Father time.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: You're eventually gonna be gone injury. You need to do
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: other stuff. Life's not over after hockey or sport. You
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: need to find another outlet. And I like when guys
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: find it during their career because it's you know, I
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: have a hard time when I see guys because I
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: was very much do a million things when I played.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: So when guys young kids come in and they're only
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: hockey and only hockey, and that's it. Every day. Eventually
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: you burn out. It's just a matter of time. You
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: need something, whether it's golf, whether it's anything. Just get
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: out and get a hobby, you know, pick up a
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: pick up a ball of yarn and start crocheting and
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: see what happens to do something. I don't know why
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: I went to crocheg but from your you didn't like
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: that one from your I gave you like, okay there,
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: but I was fishing. I was fishing for a laugh
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: and I didn't get it, and then there I go.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: But I'm with you. You have to have different passions on
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: off the ice, and since you know them a little bit,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: let's try to get them on for episode two. Get
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: to work on that rhin o'reiley. Episode two, see if
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: you can follow up the kid marriage. You've got the
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: kid Marrow's number. Now I'm sure you Cane hindal wile
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: number two.
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: I'm doing it. So I'm so I'm the talent and
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: doing all the work for for tal in the back.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: Just tell just tell have a phone, just tell half
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: the phone that.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: He's he's gonna work at his lighting first. In the meantime,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: you're gonna be the guest booker as we close, thanks
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: to tal Bob Bender, Vince Gates, the entire team here
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: putting this Eric Eisenberg, of course, I just as we're
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: fishing up JD, Julie Young texting us to just send
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: an email. Actually, NHL Inscriptive Verkin de Mirrors the first
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: of two new podcasts, the NHL and iHeart Media collaboration.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: The show features Prime Monday Night hockey co host Adnan
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Vurk and former NHL player Jason Demers in a weekly discussion.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: But all things hockey on and off the ice, that
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: the pub is out there, that's just hopevidance will follow.
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: So can you tell Julie Young, like all I get
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: is former NHL player, not that I'm also on Amazon
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: coast to coast and the NHL network. Like that's it.
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: That's all I get.
- 1:05:55Speaker 7: You get Emmy award winning probably all you know? Con
- 1:06:02Speaker 7: Bench two hundred and fifty pounds, Just great guy, great
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: legs and Jason Emerse form NHL player.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: For former player. We'll pick end it there and thanks
