- 0:00Speaker 1: 5-3, Kraken. They win tonight here in Washington. We go
- 0:03Speaker 1: down to the ice where Freddy Gaudreau is standing by. Freddy,
- 0:07Speaker 1: your third game in the last, or third goal, rather,
- 0:10Speaker 1: in the last two games. You have now become the
- 0:12Speaker 1: sniper for the Seattle Kraken. Just take us through your
- 0:14Speaker 1: thoughts on this game and a big 5-3 win for
- 0:17Speaker 1: your group in Washington.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Yeah, big win for sure. We knew coming into that
- 0:22Speaker 2: that it would be a big one. They're an heavy team.
- 0:26Speaker 2: They're experienced. They kind of have the whole package, so
- 0:31Speaker 2: we knew we needed to be sharp and focused for
- 0:33Speaker 2: 60 minutes, and I thought that allowed us to come
- 0:37Speaker 2: out with the win. They came back in the game,
- 0:39Speaker 2: but nobody was defeated. We stayed focused, and that was
- 0:42Speaker 2: fun to see.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Freddie, we talk a lot about the culture of the team,
- 0:46Speaker 3: the culture of the locker room, but what's the culture
- 0:48Speaker 3: of your line? You guys have played together for a
- 0:50Speaker 3: few games now. Obviously, you've got time on the bench,
- 0:53Speaker 3: time in the dressing room, media breaks where you guys talk.
- 0:56Speaker 3: What are you trying to achieve every single time you're
- 0:58Speaker 3: on the ice out there?
- 1:00Speaker 2: Um, well, it's, it's, first of all, it's so fun
- 1:02Speaker 2: to play with those two guys. They, uh, they're such
- 1:04Speaker 2: great players. Um, you know, I, I think sometimes when you, um,
- 1:10Speaker 2: maybe haven't done it as much offensively in the league,
- 1:13Speaker 2: sometimes it's easy to kind of fall back into a
- 1:15Speaker 2: defensive mindset. But I, I think the message with us
- 1:18Speaker 2: is to, uh, to just, yeah, first of all, play
- 1:21Speaker 2: solid defensively, but don't limit yourself to that, um, Just
- 1:24Speaker 2: try to be a difference maker. And sometimes it's a
- 1:28Speaker 2: chip out of our neutral zone. Or sorry, a chip
- 1:32Speaker 2: out of our defensive zone. Sometimes it's a chip in
- 1:34Speaker 2: the offensive zone. But sometimes, you know, you can also
- 1:37Speaker 2: score big goals. And it's fun to see the guys
- 1:40Speaker 2: getting rewarded from there.
- 1:41Speaker 1: We knew that speed was going to play a factor
- 1:43Speaker 1: in this game. Washington, a really big team, a very
- 1:46Speaker 1: physical and aggressive team. And when you came into this game,
- 1:49Speaker 1: especially with the fourth line, you guys bring the energy.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You guys have really set the tone the last couple
- 1:54Speaker 1: of games. What was the big focus in terms of
- 1:57Speaker 1: using your guys' speed here this evening to create an
- 2:01Speaker 1: advantage over their size?
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think speed only works when they're connected. And
- 2:05Speaker 2: that's the message. It's support each other, talk to each other,
- 2:08Speaker 2: advance the puck when you see an opportunity. Yeah, that's
- 2:13Speaker 2: that's our team. You know, we got to play all together.
- 2:15Speaker 2: We got to use each other. And I thought we
- 2:18Speaker 2: did a pretty good job at that. Good.
- 2:20Speaker 3: The summer you spent a lot of time working on
- 2:21Speaker 3: your shot, Freddie. You got that was a big goal
- 2:24Speaker 3: in the second period, the go ahead goal. It wasn't
- 2:26Speaker 3: a snipe because I don't know, maybe you got tired
- 2:28Speaker 3: of sniping. You wanted to put a little move on
- 2:30Speaker 3: the goaltender this time. But talk a little bit about
- 2:32Speaker 3: how that paid off. It certainly is paying off for
- 2:35Speaker 3: the last couple of games.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think shooting pucks is just trying to, you know,
- 2:40Speaker 2: in some ways rewire your brain. A certain way to
- 2:44Speaker 2: find the net more, I don't know, naturally if you want.
- 2:49Speaker 2: But I worked, I changed some sticks. You know, I
- 2:52Speaker 2: worked on trying to find the good sticks for me.
- 2:53Speaker 2: That was the thing. I built a little shooting range
- 2:56Speaker 2: in the backyard. I played there with my son. But
- 2:58Speaker 2: when he was sleeping, I would just use it for myself. So, yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 2: I don't know. It's... I do it all of love.
- 3:06Speaker 2: That's what I do. I love that game. So being
- 3:09Speaker 2: outside for me and shooting boxes simply because I just
- 3:12Speaker 2: really love it. And then I do believe also it
- 3:15Speaker 2: translates after that.
- 3:16Speaker 1: So I got to ask you, I've got a four-year-old
- 3:18Speaker 1: at home who I also use as my goalie. He's
- 3:21Speaker 1: not a very good goalie.
- 3:22Speaker 3: How good of a goalie is your two-year-old?
- 3:24Speaker 2: That's funny you're saying that. He always wants to be goalie.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Oh, no. He's great.
- 3:31Speaker 2: He's great. No, it's funny. When we talk about hockey,
- 3:34Speaker 2: he always says, me, goalie. You know, he's two and
- 3:37Speaker 2: a half, but he's got a little set of goalie.
- 3:41Speaker 2: The pads are all the way up to his armpits.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You know, he can't really move too well, but he
- 3:45Speaker 2: loves it. And you know what? I think I love
- 3:47Speaker 2: it even more. It's so fun to see him love
- 3:50Speaker 2: the same game that I do. So, you know, he
- 3:52Speaker 2: can be anything. It's great to see.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Well, Freddy Gaudreau, proud dad, proud fourth liner for the
- 3:57Speaker 1: Seattle Kraken. Congrats on your success these last couple games.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Best of luck down the road. We'll talk to you soon.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Thank you, guys. Appreciate it.
