- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by SeatGeek. This is episode 448.
- 0:20I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin, and I'm here with my Co host
- 0:23Nate Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27Welcome back from the big ol long weekend, everybody, except
- 0:32for you. You worked on Friday.
- 0:34Strategic move strategic. Let's let's call spade a spade.
- 0:39It was. I can appreciate the, I can
- 0:42appreciate the mastermind behind that.
- 0:45It was about as low effort of a work day as possible and it's OK
- 0:49if my boss hears that. The reality of it is nobody was
- 0:52really working. I I mean I can't create work for
- 0:55myself. This is true.
- 0:56Everybody decided to turn it into a four day weekend,
- 0:59understandably so. But if I have the ability to log
- 1:04log my hours and kind of have a pretty low key day, I'm going to
- 1:09do it. You know, that's just, that's
- 1:11brilliance on on my part. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:15I have a gripe on the Sky Harbor Phoenix Airport trying to save
- 1:22some money by parking in the economy lot right.
- 1:26That's why it's named the economy lot.
- 1:30Economically it should be cheaper, right?
- 1:32Well, economy lot E full Economy lot W full, parking garage W
- 1:44full. Where do we have to park the
- 1:49park and walk lot that's like 3/4 of a mile away from the
- 1:58nearest terminal. So when we parked at the airport
- 2:04Thursday, it was like 110 outside and we had to.
- 2:08Walk all the way. I'm out.
- 2:12To get to the train and then on the way back when we got here,
- 2:17again, had to walk all the way out there.
- 2:19It was insane. And I'm like, there's got to be
- 2:22people that are like dying on this trip, you know what I mean?
- 2:25And no shuttle goes out that far.
- 2:28It's insane. I don't that's it started off.
- 2:32Yeah. It's the Yankees suck weekend
- 2:37travelling. We had to go grocery shop.
- 2:39I don't know what's what you're going to get today.
- 2:41I don't know what you're going to get.
- 2:42I can't. I can't promise.
- 2:43Did you at least have a good 4th?
- 2:46Had a good 4th. Good.
- 2:47That's that's what's important rolling into the week after the
- 2:504th. Good burger, good dog.
- 2:52Ketchup and mustard for those curious.
- 2:57Sorry, Ryan. Look, I'm, I'm getting to a
- 2:59point in my life. I, I thought about it some over
- 3:01the 4th as as hot dogs and hamburgers were plenty,
- 3:04cheeseburgers were plenty. I'm getting a point.
- 3:07Maybe it's coming with age, maybe it's me maturing.
- 3:10I don't judge people as much for the whole mustard thing.
- 3:13Like if that's if that's the move, that's your move.
- 3:17Personally, I don't need the mustard.
- 3:19I don't like mustard. But I'm not judged for ketchup
- 3:22this weekend. Paige judged me for and my step
- 3:26dad judged me for catch up as a play.
- 3:29No, I would I would venture to say maybe some bias is a play
- 3:33here, but if you polled 1000 people in a room, that's a big
- 3:37room. If you poll 1000 people I would
- 3:40venture say more than half, if only given the choice to choose
- 3:45one, are taking catch up right, I would.
- 3:47Agree. I would agree if that's fair.
- 3:48Am I crazy? OK.
- 3:49I think that's fair. I did get smacked in the face
- 3:54with allergies though. Boy did I.
- 3:57Wow wow wow wow. I thought I was going to have to
- 4:02stay there. Couldn't breathe, couldn't see.
- 4:05My eyes are still messed up. It's been a mess.
- 4:08It's going to be a heck of an episode.
- 4:10It's going to be. It's going to be.
- 4:11For Old Night Boy, it's going. To be something, it's going to
- 4:13be something. Spencer says ketchup.
- 4:16Yeah. Right on, Spencer.
- 4:18Spencer knows what's up. Yeah, ketchup.
- 4:21That's OK, there's nothing wrong with ketchup.
- 4:24And then we get ketchup on a hot dog as a monstrosity all.
- 4:27Right. Well, you know.
- 4:28All right, Well, that's going away.
- 4:30I don't. I don't know we.
- 4:31Had some momentum there. Thought we had some momentum.
- 4:34Whatever. Unreal.
- 4:36Unreal. Good fireworks.
- 4:37Get any fireworks then? Yeah, man, dude, the 4th.
- 4:40This is probably the most active 4th I've had in a long time.
- 4:44Active just in the sense of like, we're going like the whole
- 4:47day. We woke up, got got a a bagel
- 4:51and some coffee. Went down to the the old the old
- 4:554th of July parade down where we used to live down in the city of
- 4:59Fairfax and then came home. Went to our community pool
- 5:04party. OK.
- 5:07We got games and food and music and then wrapped up with that
- 5:11came home, got cleaned up, went over to the parents house and
- 5:15then headed down to a big old fireworks show.
- 5:18It was just a, it was a packed day.
- 5:21And then before that we had, you know, the, the cookout, the
- 5:23burgers and the, the dogs and all that.
- 5:26It was good. It was good 4th, very good 4th
- 5:28that. Is good good for you.
- 5:30With ketchup. With ketchup, I will.
- 5:32With ketchup. Let us talk about the news that
- 5:39broke this evening. Lettuce.
- 5:41Or that was revealed released to us this evening, the All Star
- 5:47pitchers and reserves. And then we also got to talk
- 5:51about some names that were added to the Home Run Derby couple NL
- 5:55E names, one of which I think is AI don't know, man.
- 6:02One of these names a little bit surprising, a little bit
- 6:06curious, but another one about as predictable as you could get.
- 6:13But let's talk about these pitchers and reserves.
- 6:16Looking at the American League reserves and pitching Staffs, we
- 6:22got Josh Naylor. We got Marcus Semion, Rafael
- 6:25Devers, E Sock Parade, as Carlos Correa, Bobby Witt, Salvi Perez,
- 6:30Kyle Tucker, Jaron Durant. Let's take a moment.
- 6:37I've been pushing. I've been pushing for the Jaron
- 6:39Durant All Star Movement for a while.
- 6:44I'm not going to say I was, I was the leader behind that
- 6:46movement, but I've been, I've been searching for that for a
- 6:49while. Some could say.
- 6:52I didn't. I'll be honest, though, I didn't
- 6:53think that post on Instagram was going to do as well as it did.
- 6:55That got that got people worked up and hey, look, not even not
- 7:00even just Red Sox fans. There were people coming to
- 7:02Jaron's defense going, this is one of the more electric players
- 7:05I've seen in some time. And look, they've been talking
- 7:08about it on these broadcasts that I've been watching.
- 7:11This is like the the ultimate player that I think a lot of
- 7:19people have been longing for for some time.
- 7:23When you're just faced with the the two true outcome type
- 7:28hitters or the can only hit for contact type players.
- 7:32Jaron Duran has, I mean, sure, you can look at guys like Bobby
- 7:37Witt and Gunnar Henderson and guys like that who seemingly
- 7:40have the full package. But in terms of what he's able
- 7:43to do on the base pass, even more so I think than than guys
- 7:46like that. And then what he's able to do at
- 7:49a premier outfield position. Big, big props to Jaron Duran.
- 7:54Just want to throw that out there.
- 7:57Got to got to play Homer just for a little bit there.
- 8:00Sure, sure. Riley Green, David Fry and then
- 8:05for the staff we got Garrett Crochet, Tarek Scoobl.
- 8:10Did I mention on here how I got called out for that?
- 8:14How? I kept saying for the longest
- 8:15time I've called him Tariq Scoobl.
- 8:19Sure, I did too. And somebody called, I think
- 8:22somebody, forgive me, I can't remember who reached out to me,
- 8:25but somebody reached out and was.
- 8:26Like Tigers fan was like, yeah, stop saying that they're.
- 8:29Like Kyle, how many times do you have to hear the name to know he
- 8:34was like, it sounds like Derek, but it's Tarek.
- 8:37And I was like, all right, hey, that's on me.
- 8:39That's just, first of all, that's just me being awful with
- 8:43names, so. That is true.
- 8:45That is a little bit of you're you're.
- 8:47Already off to a tough start there.
- 8:49Yeah, I, yeah, that's known. That's well documented.
- 8:53It's not good. Tarek Scoble, Tanner Hauck, Seth
- 8:57Lugo, Cole Reagan's. Logan Gilbert, Corbin Burns,
- 9:01Tyler Anderson. Great names these these all
- 9:05these names I have. I have no issue with any of
- 9:08these names. Not a one.
- 9:10Relief. We got Mason Miller, Kirby
- 9:13Yates, Clay Holmes, Emmanuel Claase.
- 9:16Here's my issue right there. Yep, keep that to myself.
- 9:20Hey, for just for a second though, can we, can we do a
- 9:24little compare and contrast on 'cause I I saw some some gripes
- 9:30about the Clay homes over Kinley Janssen.
- 9:38I'm at a loss for words here. The snub.
- 9:41Yes, can we can we pull up Clay Holmes's numbers real quick?
- 9:46I'll I need to. Go, you go, Kenley.
- 9:48Yeah, I, I need to, I need to pull us up because there's a
- 9:53lot, even Red Sox fans, there's a lot of Red Sox fans talking
- 9:56about we need to get rid of this guy, trade him away.
- 9:58But it's. That's true.
- 10:00I want to let's preface this conversation with any of those
- 10:03Red Sox fans that have been wanting to get rid of him for
- 10:05years. Not your time to come to
- 10:08defense. I'm not going to.
- 10:11We're not going to do that here. Don't.
- 10:13Don't switch camps. If you wanted this guy gone a
- 10:17few years ago, don't sit here and say that he deserves to be
- 10:21an All Star. You're not allowed to.
- 10:22You lost the right. Also like read the room where?
- 10:26Like where's the team at in relation to the rest of the
- 10:30field? Like hello, what are we trying
- 10:33to do here come September, come October?
- 10:37He's obviously playing a big role in that.
- 10:40Kenley Jansen on the air, He's got a war of 1.4 and ERA of two
- 10:44O 8. He's appeared in 30 games and
- 10:46has 17 saves. What do we got for Clay Holmes?
- 10:5019 saves, 3 flat ERAI don't have war 138 ERA.
- 10:59Plus it's really it's this is I'm I'm watching 2022 all over
- 11:05again. I'm watching 2022 with an
- 11:08amazing first half and then just an epic collapse.
- 11:16It's also been, it's also just been not just Clay Holmes, it's
- 11:19been a bad. I think I saw Friday the save
- 11:23that he blew against the Red Sox was his first save opportunity
- 11:27since like middle of June. So it was almost like it, it was
- 11:34like 3 weeks without a save opportunity.
- 11:37So anytime he was coming in in that in between, that was like
- 11:40weird opportunities that normally a closer wouldn't be
- 11:44in. Not that I not that he needs
- 11:46excuses or anything, he's just been bad lately, but it's been a
- 11:50weird combination. Not to mention the Red Sox have
- 11:53seemingly figured it out for the most part for last month or so.
- 11:56So like, it's there's a little recency bias there, but
- 12:00whatever. I'm not going to.
- 12:01I don't want to spend too much time on this.
- 12:03Looking at the staff headlights, looking at the staff for the
- 12:07American League, who would you like to see start?
- 12:11And this is the full staff on this Bleacher Report article,
- 12:14right? Yeah, I just read everything.
- 12:17I just read everybody off. So it's the full roster, OK.
- 12:21Throw numbers out the window again, you can do that.
- 12:26You can do that with the All Star game because apparently
- 12:29numbers don't matter for this event anyway.
- 12:30We've said that time and time again, sure.
- 12:33So this is this is just a promotional event.
- 12:36This is a a fan favorite event. Given that, who would you want
- 12:41to see take the take the Hill as a starter for the American
- 12:44League, and I'll ask the same for the National League,
- 12:49obviously when we get to it. But for the American League,
- 12:51who? Who would you like to see based
- 12:53on the way the year's gone thus far for these guys?
- 12:56I, I want, I feel like I could have said Scoobl.
- 13:01Like in a landslide. It's been a little wishy washy.
- 13:08I think there's a lot of starters that are kind of
- 13:10reaching that that stamina expiration date, not that like
- 13:19it's done, but like they're I think there's a lot of guys that
- 13:21are crawling to the to the All Star game and I think he might
- 13:24be one of them. Started off great.
- 13:27It's hard to say, man. I mean, like Burns is just is
- 13:31just Corbin Burns and like I feel like that's just a safe
- 13:34fall back name. If we're going to the theme that
- 13:38I have been like if, if we're throwing out numbers, if we're
- 13:43throwing out logic most of the time with what this All Star
- 13:47game is. Can I Can I interrupt real
- 13:49quick? Yeah.
- 13:50People in the chat let us know who you would want to see.
- 13:53Give me a starter. Give me a starter.
- 13:55Who would you want to see start for the American League in the
- 13:57All Star Game? The same logic, coincidentally
- 14:00the same team. We had this argument last week.
- 14:04I wanted Sal Perez in there representing the ALS catcher.
- 14:11The same logic of like, why not? We're not going to get these
- 14:14opportunities much longer. I would.
- 14:18I think Seth Lugo starting the game would just be the coolest
- 14:22thing to see. I think it would be pretty Dang
- 14:25cool for the career that that guy's had, for the ups and
- 14:30downs, for all the different jerseys he's worn, like what
- 14:33he's done this year. Woody's put together.
- 14:36I think it's been pretty cool. I don't think it'll happen, but
- 14:42I think that man deserves some respect on his name.
- 14:46And how about the Royals, man? Give me two names in there.
- 14:50Don't even I, I'm not even going to act surprised.
- 14:53I'll leave that. No, no, no, no.
- 14:55I'm going to leave that to you and Mr. Ryan Ripken to, to be be
- 15:00taken aback by how well the Royals are doing.
- 15:02I've been saying this. I've been on the Royals, so this
- 15:05is just par for the course for me.
- 15:07So I'm not even, I'm not even gonna get excited.
- 15:10But hey, I, I don't mean anything by that negatively.
- 15:14I'm just saying like I I'm glad, I'm glad you're realizing it,
- 15:18but I've been on the rolls for a minute now.
- 15:21I mean, there's six games over 500.
- 15:23It's not like they're, which is it's a great turn around.
- 15:29It's a great turn around like games, but they're nine games
- 15:33better. I never, but that's what I'm
- 15:37saying. I never said they were going to
- 15:38win the division. Oh, I think you did I.
- 15:41Absolutely did not. The quote graphic itself said
- 15:45they're a lock is something to the effect of they're a lock for
- 15:48the six wad card seed. Put it in, put it in sharpie or
- 15:51something. I see, I see.
- 15:53All right, all right. One game back in the wild card
- 15:55at the moment. That's fine.
- 15:57That's fine. I mean, dude, a dream scenario
- 16:01would be if the Sox could slide in like the 5th or, or I mean,
- 16:05who knows, even though maybe even the fourth seed and then
- 16:09the Royals, the Royals hit the 6th and, and nail that
- 16:12prediction 'cause that's, I think that was the, the
- 16:14prediction coming in the season. And I was, I was riding the
- 16:17hardest, if I'm being honest. Yeah, it's looking that way.
- 16:24Talk to me about your starter. Who do you?
- 16:26Who do you got? Are you going you?
- 16:28Know man, I look I had Garrett crochet in fantasy and I think
- 16:34I've mentioned this on yeah we when we were talking about
- 16:38Garrett Crochet and Luis Robert when the buzz started
- 16:40circulating around them surrounding the trade market.
- 16:44I think I'm, I said something on here to the effect of this just
- 16:48feels like like he's on he's on a streak right now.
- 16:56He's off to a great start, but I just feel like it it it's just
- 16:59going to take maybe one to two starts and then he's just going
- 17:03to fall off the map and he he just won't be able to bounce
- 17:05back. But credit to him, he like he's,
- 17:09he's figured out something this year and he's been able, he's
- 17:12been able to replicate it almost start after start and it's been
- 17:17impressive to watch. And if we're going off of buzz,
- 17:20I feel like I've, I've heard Garrett Crochet's name thrown
- 17:23around the most as of late with our talking like last week or
- 17:26two, just with the strikeout numbers that he's been able to
- 17:29put up. There goes another Raphael
- 17:31Devers home run. By the way, the answer for me, I
- 17:37think as much as I love Tanner Hauck, I, I think there's been
- 17:41just a little bit of regression there as of late.
- 17:43And the, the, the narrative surrounding the All Star game, I
- 17:47think heavily relies on the whole what have you done for me
- 17:50lately kind of thing just in terms of perception.
- 17:53And I think, I think Garrett Crochet has has done
- 17:55exceptionally well, not just late, but really the whole
- 17:58season thus far. So.
- 17:59Yeah, you're probably not alone in that thought.
- 18:01I think it makes sense. Be kind of crazy.
- 18:03I wonder the last time a guy started in an All Star game but
- 18:08didn't finish the season in that uniform.
- 18:11Not that it's a done deal, but I mean it's pretty likely he gets
- 18:13moved. Just wondering when the last
- 18:15time that was. It's an interesting, it's an
- 18:20interesting thing. Was it?
- 18:21You think it was maybe CC when he ended up at he got traded in
- 18:26Milwaukee. Milwaukee, Yeah.
- 18:28Do you think he started that All Star game?
- 18:31That's such a great guess. That's a good question.
- 18:34That's a great guess. What year?
- 18:35Hold on, let's now I'm curious. What year was he?
- 18:38Traded. I think it was O 8 because he
- 18:41signed with the Yankees in O 9. Excellent 2008 MLB All Star
- 18:51Games starting pitchers 2000 and eight 2008 MLB All Star Games
- 18:57starting pitchers starters. Come on now, Where are the
- 19:08starting lineups? It was Ben Sheets of the Brewers
- 19:13and Cliff Lee of the Indians at the time.
- 19:19Well, well, he would have been an AO because he was an Indian,
- 19:25right? Yeah, yeah.
- 19:26So is it Cliff Lee that got the job over him?
- 19:29Just. But ironically enough, like
- 19:31that's like Brewers Ben Sheets of the Brewers.
- 19:33Yeah, just. Dang, but it's pretty wild.
- 19:36Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I mean, that's that's a weird
- 19:39thing to look up and be like. I wonder when that last name
- 19:41was. What's the chat saying?
- 19:44I'm sure. I'm sure they're kind of leaning
- 19:45towards crochet. Yeah, little doable.
- 19:49I think the chat's asleep. I'm not seeing any.
- 19:51Come on, chats. I'm not seeing any.
- 19:53Any thoughts on who they'd want to see start the All Star game
- 19:55for the AL but in the middle? Anderson, by the way, We'll,
- 19:58we'll come back. Good for Tyler Anderson, some
- 20:01good. Names in this list.
- 20:03Mason Miller snagging the the representation for the A's.
- 20:07Love that over Brent Rooker, who I believe is his name is being
- 20:12thrown around as a possible snub here, but.
- 20:13It's just that stacked AL outfield.
- 20:17Stacked the AL outfield is. It's not even close.
- 20:21It's night and day between AL and NL outfield.
- 20:24Very much so. Very, very deep.
- 20:27Good for David Frey sneaking in there.
- 20:30I think Riley Green, this is not going to be his last name.
- 20:34See, that looks like Tariq right there.
- 20:36Spencer, that looks like you've spelled out Tariq.
- 20:39That's incorrect, Sir. It's Tariq.
- 20:42Tariq all day, nationally. Done that the whole time.
- 20:47National League, we're looking at the reserves and staff for
- 20:50the National League. We got Pete Alonzo at first,
- 20:52Freddie Freeman second. We got Luis Arayas third base,
- 20:57Ryan McMahon short. We got Mookie Betts with the
- 21:02honorary naming to the yeah selection to the All Star team,
- 21:08Ellie De La Cruz, CJ Abrams behind behind the dish.
- 21:13We got Will Smith in the outfield.
- 21:15We got TA Oscar Hernandez, Jackson Merrill.
- 21:18Good for Jackson Merrill having a having a great year, having an
- 21:21excellent year. Ramos too.
- 21:25Dude, what's talking about being terrible with names?
- 21:28What's? I was hoping, I was hoping you'd
- 21:30fly by this. I was hoping you wouldn't bring
- 21:31it up. No, I'm just gonna.
- 21:35I think it's Elliot. I think it's Elliot.
- 21:37I I typed this out one time on our on our note.
- 21:41You know what? I'm gonna see if I can find it.
- 21:43See if you can find like a game or something.
- 21:45Go back to like the broadcast saying it.
- 21:47No, it's it's. I typed it out.
- 21:49Hold on, I think I got it right here.
- 21:51Helio, Elio. I think it's Elliot.
- 21:58I think it's Elliot. I think you pronounce it Elliot.
- 22:01I did. I typed it out and I 'cause I
- 22:03went back and checked. That's what you said.
- 22:06Is that what you said? Yeah.
- 22:07Elliot. Elliot Ramos.
- 22:11Where am I at here? Elliot Ramos, Bryan Reynolds.
- 22:19And then for the DH, Marcello Zuna.
- 22:22For the staff we got Ranger Suarez, Tyler Glass, now Shota
- 22:26Imanaga, Ronaldo Lopez As I finish up the staff chat, who do
- 22:36you want to see start the national?
- 22:38Start the All Star game for the National League.
- 22:42Ronaldo Lopez, Logan Webb, Paul Skeens, Chris Sale and Zach
- 22:52Wheeler with his and Zach Wheeler.
- 22:55That's a good bunch. Hey, shout out to Paul Skeens.
- 23:00The list of Major League players to be drafted first overall and
- 23:06make the All Star team the very next season.
- 23:13How many people do you think are on that list?
- 23:18One Paul schemes. That's it, that's the list.
- 23:28Big props to Paul Schemes. The hard cut, love that.
- 23:35Evan says get Ronaldo Lopez on the bump to start the All Star
- 23:40game, leading in the ERA category.
- 23:47I like that. Hey, you know what, a lot of
- 23:49people don't like to talk about ERA as much anymore, but I'm
- 23:52I'm, I'm still holding fast and strong to the statistical
- 23:58category of ERA because that's important because the point of a
- 24:02pitcher, the point of a pitcher is to limit runs.
- 24:10That's the whole point. Specifically runs that you can
- 24:14control, which is what earned runs are.
- 24:19So you know, I I wouldn't hate it.
- 24:21That's another guy I had in fantasy and traded away because
- 24:23I didn't think that was going to last.
- 24:25Randaldo Lopez said. Suck one so.
- 24:29Imanaga, has he gotten has he righted the ship at all?
- 24:34I looked at the last few starts, but I know it was there was a
- 24:37real tough streak going. Yeah, I.
- 24:41Yeah, his last outing threw he went 6 deep against the
- 24:44Phillies, only gave up three runs, had a KS.
- 24:48And honestly, it's not a quality start.
- 24:51Outside, well, I mean, we say right of the ship honestly,
- 24:54outside of that start against the Mets where he got routed for
- 24:58ten runs on eleven hits in just three innings before that, he he
- 25:03was doing just fine really. I mean, there was a, you know, a
- 25:07rough start against the Brewers I'm I'm seeing here, but Reds he
- 25:12went six and 2/3, seven KS Cardinals 7 innings, 6 KS, one
- 25:17and run. You know, Giants went six
- 25:20innings, only gave up three. So I mean, I think right, I
- 25:24think righted the ship. And I'm I'm not saying you're
- 25:27wrong for saying that 'cause I I kind of felt the same way at.
- 25:29Least that's how it's perceiving it.
- 25:30This is like a uneducated haven't looked at numbers.
- 25:34I've just in a while I saw that one blow up.
- 25:36Yeah, I thought it was followed by something rough afterwards as
- 25:40well. I mean, to say we haven't looked
- 25:42at numbers, I mean that's just speaking very recently because
- 25:45there for a while we were only looking at numbers with Shorty
- 25:48Minaga 'cause he was just putting up incredible start
- 25:51after incredible start. So that's a fair assumption.
- 25:53But based on what we're seeing numbers wise as of late, it was
- 25:56really just that one blow up. And I think, I think he's been
- 26:00fine otherwise. I think it's crazy that you
- 26:04could probably have guessed that there would be two brave
- 26:07starters that were going to make the All Star team.
- 26:12I don't think anyone would have said these two names though.
- 26:15That is an excellent point. That's pretty crazy.
- 26:17That is an excellent point. To get punched in the mouth the
- 26:20way they did with Strider and like, it's good for these two
- 26:26guys, specifically Raynaldo. I mean, that's a big, big deals.
- 26:29That's a big, big deal, yeah. Evan in the chat says as much as
- 26:34I like skeins, he hasn't been pitching all seasons.
- 26:36I feel like it'd be a slap in the face.
- 26:37Let's skeins start versus pitcher, who's been lighting up
- 26:39all year. I think it would be a little bit
- 26:42of a buzz decision. Oh yeah, for sure.
- 26:46But look, I mean, the reality of it is, and I feel like 9 times
- 26:52out of 10, I probably agree with Evan.
- 26:54And I'm not saying I, I disagree or agree, but like, let's just
- 26:58look at what he's, let's look at his body of work thus far.
- 27:02And, and I, I understand he hasn't been here.
- 27:04He hasn't been here all year. He's 5 and O.
- 27:08He's got an ERA of 212. How many starts 7612?
- 27:13345978 He's got ten starts dude, OK.
- 27:19OK. Ten starts we're we're double
- 27:21digit starts for Skeens a whip of one O 1 78 strikeouts.
- 27:32Can I just can I just run through his his log of KS thus
- 27:37far? Please do.
- 27:39All right, so he made his debut against it 'cause remember, he
- 27:43had those back-to-back starts against the Cubs to start his
- 27:45career 7 KS and this is this is starting from his first start to
- 27:51now 7KS11KS3KS9KS8KS8KS7KS8KS9KS8
- 28:01KS. Normally I, like I said,
- 28:05normally I would agree with something like that where it's
- 28:07like, hey, man, this guy hasn't hasn't put up the full body of
- 28:09work, but like the if the only thing that you can knock Paul
- 28:15Skeens on is the innings. But everything else he's done
- 28:19production wise has, I don't know, like at least been
- 28:22somewhat in the ballpark of what some of these other guys have
- 28:26done. And I'm not saying I'm not
- 28:28saying comparatively to a guy like Chris Sale or something,
- 28:29because Chris Sale is obviously having like a a career year.
- 28:34But like for a guy that makes the All Star team, for him to
- 28:38have numbers that are comparable to what other guys have done the
- 28:43whole first half. I mean, that's just you don't
- 28:46see that very often. You don't see that very often.
- 28:50No, it's a great point. It's a really good point.
- 28:54I don't know, I'd love to see it.
- 28:58I'm not going to complain if that's the case.
- 29:02But I I do think that there's, I think it's just a level of
- 29:11respect. Why am I blanking on who's in
- 29:21the oh the Diamondbacks? Duh.
- 29:27I was trying to think of who's The Who the manager is going to
- 29:29be. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 29:33I feel like Tory Lavilla, he's he's been around the game long
- 29:36enough that I think there's like this, there's, I don't think
- 29:41there's an unwritten rule about this because this is pretty
- 29:45unprecedented. Like this is like an uncharted
- 29:47territory thing. But I think there is like this
- 29:53understanding of earning your way that Tory Lavella will
- 30:00probably recognize. But at the same time, it's like
- 30:07this game doesn't mean anything, right?
- 30:09This guy is literally quickly becoming a very, very household
- 30:16name for our game. Even outside of baseball.
- 30:19Outside of baseball. Outside of baseball fans.
- 30:22And we can, we can mock the whole Libby Dunn situation, but
- 30:26like, the reality of it is that's a very real factor here.
- 30:29Yeah, we've got the same way and I'm not putting on the same
- 30:32scale fandom wise, but like you have non NFL fans watching NFL
- 30:37games for Taylor Swift, so that is there.
- 30:41I I don't know man, I wouldn't hate it.
- 30:46I wouldn't hate it anyway, reliever wise, I am.
- 30:52I'm not feeling this at all. Well, last thought on the on the
- 30:57skins thing, your point about there being a feel for for Tori
- 31:03being like, hey, you know, you got to earn your way here.
- 31:06I I agree with you 1000%, but it makes one wonder how much of or
- 31:15if at all of an influence does say the powers that be.
- 31:21I don't know who that is with Major League Baseball or or
- 31:24somebody above Tori. I don't know how much how much
- 31:28influence is taking place in regards to maybe possibly given
- 31:36schemes that not the the nod because of the the the impact
- 31:41that he's had in. Yeah.
- 31:43I mean, look, there's plenty of argument there.
- 31:46There's plenty of argument that someone could be pushing this
- 31:48along. Like somebody just getting in
- 31:51his ear, be like, hey, man, like we, we get your background, we
- 31:54get kind of your whole earn your stripe situation and your
- 31:58upbringing and and the way that you manage the game.
- 32:02But we gotta, we gotta a guy that a lot of people are talking
- 32:05about right here on our hands, and this doesn't come around
- 32:08very often. So maybe let's just give the
- 32:10people what they want. You can also make the argument
- 32:12that Toy Lavella might not find himself back in this seat.
- 32:17This could be a once in a lifetime thing for him.
- 32:21Very real. So why not rock the boat?
- 32:23You know what I'm saying? Why not go out with a bang?
- 32:25So very valid. I think it's yeah, it's going to
- 32:29be fun. It's going to be weird to see if
- 32:31he does. I don't think there's going to
- 32:34be any open backlash, but I think there is going to be this
- 32:39poor taste in the mouth for veterans.
- 32:43It's hard to say though. Andrew says Livi Dunn over Paul
- 32:47Skins. Yeah, I mean, depends on who you
- 32:50ask I guess, but I can't really comment on that.
- 32:56Nate, I don't think you can really comment on that either.
- 33:01Relief wise. In the pen.
- 33:02We got Ryan Helsley with the Cardinals, Tanner Scott with the
- 33:06Marlins, Robert Suarez with the Padres, Matt Strom with the
- 33:09Phillies and Jeff Hoffman for the Phillies.
- 33:12So did I see? Did I read right?
- 33:17I think I saw some earlier that said the Phillies are sending 7
- 33:20to the All Star game. We got Harper, Boehm, the two
- 33:27that I just listed off Strom, Hoffman, Trey.
- 33:34Who else am I missing here? Oh, Zach Wheeler.
- 33:37Suarez and Wheeler. And Suarez, Yeah, wow.
- 33:44Good for the Phils man. Yeah.
- 33:47See, like that, I'm that I'm OK with that.
- 33:50Like it, I mean, the Trey thing we talked about, I think that
- 33:54was, I think that was unnecessary, but I'm OK with the
- 33:59best team in baseball at at this point in time.
- 34:02I'm like 99% sure having a a majority of guys in there.
- 34:10Yeah. But like the whole who was it
- 34:13the I don't mean to throw a ricochet here or astray, but was
- 34:19it the Blue Jays that were making the push?
- 34:21Whether the fans were making the push?
- 34:23We talked about it recently. I think it was the Blue Jays.
- 34:26Yeah. Yeah, that we don't, we don't
- 34:29need that. But like a team that's the best
- 34:30in baseball presumably has a list of names that are
- 34:37contributing and producing. So it makes sense.
- 34:42Speaking of which, unless you have any, unless you have any
- 34:44thoughts to to wrap this up here.
- 34:48I think AL takes it again just based on these rosters.
- 34:53I mean, come on man, they're very clearly there is a better
- 34:58league in baseball. A lot of people don't want to
- 35:02admit it, but it's just the reality.
- 35:05And like depends on who you ask. The the All Star game could be
- 35:10an indicator of that. Could be I?
- 35:14Don't know how else you'd evaluate that.
- 35:16Like you just look at like overall records amongst the
- 35:19leagues. I don't know if that's
- 35:20necessarily the best indicator because they're a lot of times
- 35:23you're just beating up on one another.
- 35:26But if the All Star game is any indicator, I mean the American
- 35:28League has the advantage hands down for the last what, 3
- 35:34decades at this point? Yeah, yeah.
- 35:40Well, just continue to prove us right.
- 35:44But no talking about Phillies. Let's switch gears here.
- 35:48Home Run Derby Alec Boehm has announced his entry into the
- 35:52Home Run Derby as well as Pete Alonzo.
- 35:55I was kind of mentioned earlier one of these names just about as
- 35:59predictable as it gets, Pete Alonzo, but Alec Boehm.
- 36:04How do we feel about Alec Boehm being a?
- 36:07Little surprise this, this is what I'm saying is that I, I
- 36:10think I don't know how the process goes, but I think
- 36:17whoever, whatever committee is putting together the roster, I
- 36:23think they're working their way through names.
- 36:27I think they're getting a lot of no's.
- 36:30I think they're getting a lot of people saying no.
- 36:33And it's no offense. It's no offense to bum No, but
- 36:36we're again, we're five days closer than when we last talked
- 36:41and we only added two more names to the to the eight that we
- 36:44need. So it's like I what's the issue
- 36:48here? Why are why are so many guys
- 36:50saying no? Is the reward not worth it?
- 36:55I don't know. Do we need, we need, we need a
- 37:01Ranger in this right? You got to have one hometown
- 37:05guy. Remember Todd Frazier and Cincy?
- 37:08That was electric. Yeah, I mean you, you go down
- 37:11the list like Harper in DC. Yeah, Prince.
- 37:16Prince was in Detroit, right? I.
- 37:21Think so? We haven't been to Yankee
- 37:23Stadium since Judge has been up, right?
- 37:25That was the last time we were at Yankee Stadium was the old
- 37:27Yankee Stadium, right? Correct, correct.
- 37:31With Josh Hamilton and all that. Oh wait, I'd.
- 37:36Said there was a list. Now I'm struggling to remember
- 37:38who who was on that list. But anyway, I yeah, we need some
- 37:42names. I don't know if it's Seeger or
- 37:44Dolis but. True.
- 37:46Why did that's on us? We should have called him Pete
- 37:49Alonso. That's Peter.
- 37:50We got to be better. We got to be better.
- 37:54We need, we need. Oh.
- 37:56Julio, Julio last year. Where was it before?
- 38:05Cleveland. When was it in?
- 38:09It was supposed to be in Atlanta.
- 38:10Was that? Oh, was that 21?
- 38:13I was in Colorado and that was. That was 21 and that's when it's
- 38:17supposed to be in Atlanta. Yeah.
- 38:20But I don't think we did we have any Rocky's in that.
- 38:24I don't think so, no. Was Charlie Blackman in that?
- 38:29No, if anything it would have was Trevor Story.
- 38:31I don't know. Where did Trevor Story come to?
- 38:32Boston, dude. No, Trevor Story was in that.
- 38:35That's right. I think that is the good call.
- 38:37It's been so long. Yeah.
- 38:43Where the heck was the 2022 All Star Game?
- 38:50Was that Lai think? It was LA.
- 38:53Yeah, it was LA. Yeah.
- 38:58Yeah. So anyway, all that to say, you,
- 39:01you, you make a good point. We, I feel like we have to have
- 39:03a Ranger there. I don't know.
- 39:04I mean, Adolas is, he's having a somewhat of a pedestrian year,
- 39:12but. My man's gonna absolutely put on
- 39:13a show. Yeah, and who knows, maybe he's
- 39:16the kind of guy where that flips a flips a switch for him.
- 39:20That's a good point. That's a good point.
- 39:23Guys like, yeah, guys like maybe like shake it up, like Randy,
- 39:27you know what I'm saying? Get a Rosarina back in there.
- 39:30That'll get him going again. Yeah.
- 39:31Honestly, like maybe this is an opportunity where we just run
- 39:34through some of the names of guys that are having a little
- 39:38bit of use it, Yeah, having a little bit of a down year.
- 39:41Yeah. And I'm not.
- 39:44I may be way off base by saying this.
- 39:47Tell me if I'm wrong. Tell me if this is just way out
- 39:50of left field but I feel like majority of the international
- 39:56guys don't adhere to the whole like oh this is going to mess up
- 40:02my swing mentality. I would venture say that a
- 40:06majority, especially the Latin. Guys, they're just like, let me,
- 40:11let me just go out and rake. Let me just, let me just 'cause
- 40:14as much commotion as I can, let me just hit, hit a baseball as
- 40:17far as I possibly and humanly can, and let's just see what
- 40:21happens. It's because they're not soft,
- 40:23yeah. Hey, you said it.
- 40:27Not me, but yeah, like, like, am I, am I on to something there?
- 40:33Like I I mean, give me Tim. Anderson as a free agent in
- 40:36there. Now that would be crazy.
- 40:38That'd. Be wild if we had a free agent
- 40:41Home Run Derby candidate participant.
- 40:44Yeah, get Zach Green key in there.
- 40:47Mad bum at a retirement free agent?
- 40:50What? Speaking of which, I was just
- 40:52browsing the not to talk about fantasy so much, but I was
- 40:55browsing the fantasy app today just seeing maybe still
- 40:58available a name to add. No, he's obviously available but
- 41:02he it said he was rostered by .1% of people and I'm going now.
- 41:05Who's rostering Madison Bumgardner right now in fantasy
- 41:09baseball? I don't understand how that
- 41:10makes any sense. Something tells me that's a
- 41:13that's a keeper league and the year they won it, Mad Bum was on
- 41:18the team and they just can't shake it up too much.
- 41:20That's that's fair. I think that's a, that's just
- 41:25superstition right there. That's fair, which you can't
- 41:28fight. You can't argue that.
- 41:29Can't argue that Speaking of superstition, something had to
- 41:33have been working for Jose Miranda.
- 41:36What a run. And like, and I understand that
- 41:40this comes around once every, I don't know, however many years,
- 41:45but like, just because it's just because it's a statistical
- 41:50anomaly does not take away from like the significance of of this
- 41:57and the difficulty of this. And like, yeah, you could make
- 42:02the argument they're like, oh, well, like the law of averages
- 42:05or like it was, it was bound to happen to somebody.
- 42:07It just happened to be Jose Miranda.
- 42:08Sure, I get all that. But like, don't take anything
- 42:11away from from Jose Miranda because like you still got to go
- 42:14up there. That's why I never understand
- 42:16why people talk about like, well, like they always go back
- 42:20to Jeter's final AB in Yankee Stadium.
- 42:22Like, well, that was that was rigged.
- 42:24I go sure, like you could, you could do your absolute best to
- 42:30manipulate the situation. Like if they I don't believe
- 42:33baseball is rigged, but if it was, you could do.
- 42:37By the way, Spencer says Mad Bum is rostering Mad Bum.
- 42:40That's a valid point. That's a valid point.
- 42:43I don't think Mad Bum has a smartphone.
- 42:46No, I don't even think he has a phone period.
- 42:49But no, you could do your best to manipulate the game
- 42:54situationally, but at the end of the day, you still got to put
- 42:58bat the ball. And when you're facing Major
- 43:00League, I don't care if it's the bum of bums on the opposing team
- 43:04staff, you still got to put bat the ball.
- 43:07So for people saying, oh, like the Jeter thing was rigged, no,
- 43:11save it. So all that to say, what Jose
- 43:15Miranda did twelve straight ABS with a hit that is impressively
- 43:24difficult to achieve. That's.
- 43:26Stupid. I mean, I mean, I'm trying to
- 43:30think at like, at what point during that run are you like,
- 43:34OK, you know, I'm feeling good. I I'm happy with this.
- 43:38If I, if I finish the day going over like I'm happy.
- 43:41Like I'm thinking like the first six hitch, like, all right, like
- 43:46that's a healthy little bump to the, to the old batting average.
- 43:49Like I'll take that. And he's like, he's like, I'm,
- 43:52I'm halfway done. I got six more to go.
- 43:56His average, by the way, Speaking of averages, jumped
- 43:58from 2:00 during the stretch, jumped from 294 to 329.
- 44:05Dang, that's pretty good. That is pretty good. 35 points.
- 44:14Trying to see, oh, it's not going to say they were all home
- 44:18games, by the way. By the way, this this twelve
- 44:23straight hits thing accomplished by Johnny Kling in 1902?
- 44:29Sure. Pinky Higgins in 1938.
- 44:32Oh boy, Pinky. And Walt Droppo in 1952.
- 44:37Droppo, Droppo, Pinky Higgins. Remember it like it was
- 44:42yesterday. Grandpa Pinky.
- 44:45What a stud. Yeah.
- 44:49What's look certain things that the Twins got going?
- 44:56Miranda and Royce Lewis just holding it down at third base,
- 45:00Just alternating DH in third base together.
- 45:02Well, I mean, when Royce Lewis is healthy, I mean, he's I don't
- 45:05even I don't think we mentioned it last episode, but on the IL
- 45:08yet again, I mean, the guy it's it's there's.
- 45:10So much talent there. There's so much talent, it's so
- 45:14annoying. How crazy that is that though,
- 45:16that people make the comp of like Byron Buxton with this
- 45:19Royce Lewis situation. It's like they're literally on.
- 45:21They share the field together. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:25Well, that's a stretch. They they rarely share the field
- 45:27together, but you get my point. Yeah, I, I'm a I'm a fan.
- 45:34It's funny because we I obviously get like the you and I
- 45:37both get like notifications of fantasy stuff like ad drop, ad
- 45:41drop. And I would, if we could find
- 45:44the number of times that Jose Miranda has been added and
- 45:47dropped in this league, it's gone.
- 45:51That number's got to be higher than most names.
- 45:53And for him holding it down now safely on a roster with this
- 45:58performance? Good for him.
- 46:00I'm not obviously not rooting for his downfall.
- 46:04I have nothing against Jose Miranda seems like a great dude.
- 46:07But the reality of it is, and I'm curious to see what happens,
- 46:11but you and I both know how baseball works.
- 46:15It doesn't matter like what level you're talking about.
- 46:17I just think the reality is, is that he most likely is going to
- 46:23experience a little bit of a cold streak because that just
- 46:26seems to be the way the game goes.
- 46:28And it's nothing against him. It's nothing against what he's
- 46:31capable of doing. But baseball just has a funny
- 46:34way of working out sometimes where you just you, it looks
- 46:39like a beach ball and then you show up to the park the next day
- 46:42and it's like you're trying to hit a Lima bean.
- 46:45It's it's that's just how how it goes.
- 46:47And like I, for his sake, I hope he can keep some sort of
- 46:55consistency at the plate, but I'm not I'm curious to see.
- 46:58I'll keep an eye on on how this how this follows up a name we
- 47:04won't be keeping an eye on because he's going to be out for
- 47:08some time. Colton Brewer out with a broken
- 47:12hand. Get this after punching a wall.
- 47:20That's tough, man, that's tough. Is there video?
- 47:26I can find it. There was a shout out to the
- 47:31photographer, by the way, because there was an actual
- 47:34photo of it happening. Really.
- 47:39Yeah, you just type in type in Colton Brewer broken hand and
- 47:44it'll it'll show up in the. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:47In the in the results. Oh Yep, classic back wall of the
- 47:52dugout. Like man is clenched.
- 48:00That's tough. I bet you're saying this isn't
- 48:03the first time he's thrown a punch.
- 48:06Probably not. I don't know anything about the
- 48:07guy. I pitched for the Red Sox for a
- 48:09short period of time, but don't really know much about the guy.
- 48:12But I'd venture say not the first time he's thrown hands,
- 48:18but like I and and we, this is we, you and I were talking about
- 48:21before we hopped on. This isn't the first guy that
- 48:24this has happened to like in in the duration of in the in the
- 48:28life of this podcast. I think there have been a
- 48:31handful of guys, no pun intended, a handful of guys who
- 48:35have broken their hand by punching either the dugout wall,
- 48:40a Gatorade cooler, something and I.
- 48:44So many, so many things to attack.
- 48:47Why? Why a rock solid wall?
- 48:51I get it. But like, I, I think our
- 48:54sentiment has been the same every time.
- 48:56And it's that I kind of get it. I kind of get it because when
- 49:02when you just cannot figure out the game of baseball.
- 49:05I want to do it based on what I'm watching as a fan.
- 49:09As a fan, as a Yankee fan, Nate wants to punch a dugout wall, a
- 49:13concrete dugout wall. Absolutely.
- 49:16And I'm sure for those of you out there that go, I mean, you
- 49:19could really say anything. There's levels of frustration.
- 49:22Yeah, but like golf is a similar situation where like one day you
- 49:26just have it and then for the next month you don't.
- 49:28It's just how how the game works.
- 49:30Baseball is no different. You just you get fed up because
- 49:34you're you recognize that it's not necessarily anything
- 49:39happening externally. It's not it's not that your
- 49:45coaches are putting you in a in a bad spot.
- 49:47It's not that the opposition is, you know, doing something to
- 49:54inhibit your abilities. It's yourself.
- 49:58It's yourself. And you're going, I can't, what
- 50:01am I doing wrong? I can't figure it out.
- 50:02And when you reach a point where you can't figure out what to do
- 50:05or what, but you can't identify what the issue is, you revert to
- 50:09frustration, you revert to lashing out, you revert to
- 50:12punching walls. And, and it's, it's not a common
- 50:15thing certainly, but some guys just get to, they just see red
- 50:19and you come back after a rough outing or a rough inning or a
- 50:22rough string of a BS and you just, you look for the first
- 50:26thing to punch and a lot for a lot of times it's the thing
- 50:29that's right in front of you once you come into the dugout.
- 50:32And the the reality is, is more often than not, you're going to
- 50:37miss some time. So.
- 50:39There's a kid in high school at the worst timing ever.
- 50:42I was a freshman, I was on the sophomore team, but we were
- 50:46watching our varsity and team like just light it up and they
- 50:49were making a run and it was in the Elite 8 and our second
- 50:55baseman, lead off hitter struck out, punched the dugout wall,
- 51:02broke his hand, next guy up hit a walk off double.
- 51:07Like that's just the worst timing, you know what I'm
- 51:09saying? Like, you think you lost the
- 51:11game because of because of your actions, you break your hand and
- 51:15then you can't play when your team moves on to the final four.
- 51:18Yeah. Anyway, yeah, I don't know, man.
- 51:21I just give me, give me the epic.
- 51:23Give me the epic blow UPS. I miss the epic blow UPS.
- 51:27When's the last blow up? We saw that.
- 51:30I mean, it's like big Poppy. To the to the to the telephone.
- 51:34Yeah, the bullpen phone in Baltimore.
- 51:36I mean, that's awesome. That's like a true blow up.
- 51:39Like we've seen guys like throw their glove or kick a cooler,
- 51:43but like. That was epic.
- 51:45I mean like this Zambrano with the bats of the Gatorade.
- 51:50Paul O'Neill did it a million times.
- 51:52I, I mean, you, you could kind of, you could kind of throw the
- 51:56Papelbon Harper incident in there because you could tell
- 51:59like there were some things brewing there and, and that kind
- 52:03of manifested into a little bit of a brawl, but.
- 52:05Feed off of that dugout drama. Punching a wall is just like.
- 52:08It's so instantaneously over. I need bubble gum flying
- 52:15everywhere, you know what I mean?
- 52:16I need seeds exploding. Yeah, that and that's the thing
- 52:20that sucks is you just well, I mean I would hope, but you just
- 52:24know what they with with Brewer, he's the 2nd that happens.
- 52:28It's just instant regret. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:32But a lot of times that rage that you feel for how like
- 52:35poorly you're playing, it's greater than the regret I think
- 52:40that you feel moments after or like almost instantaneously like
- 52:45the it's that's how bad it gets when you when you're struggling
- 52:48and you just can't figure out why.
- 52:51That is not a fun place to be. So like, I get it.
- 52:53I don't recommend it, but he's. Going to think about it for
- 52:55months, that's all he's going to think about.
- 52:56It's tough, man. Tough break.
- 53:04You want to talk about tough? The Pirates hit so many home
- 53:07runs this weekend. I think what was it Saturday,
- 53:12Friday, Friday against the Mets? They ran out of home run
- 53:16fireworks because they hit so many. 7/7 is.
- 53:21There a fireworks show on the on the 4th.
- 53:25Did that use up some of the fireworks?
- 53:27That's a great point. Let's let's do a little digging
- 53:30around here for the Pirates at home on Thursday, 'cause that's
- 53:32a That's a valid point. That's a valid point.
- 53:36Let's see here. And was there a fireworks show?
- 53:42Feel like every ballpark does a fireworks show now?
- 53:44Pirates were at home. They lost they they lost to the
- 53:46Cardinals, 3:00 to 2:00. You still do a fireworks show?
- 53:48It's the fourth, right? No, for sure, for sure.
- 53:52But I'm saying like it's not like they it was a a offensive
- 53:57juggernaut of a night. So I would imagine she.
- 54:02Got to be better, you know? Got to be better.
- 54:05Did I see O'Neill Cruz put one in the river?
- 54:09You mean in that game? One of the one of the games this
- 54:12weekend I saw him put one in Allegheny.
- 54:15That must have been, I guess, was that yesterday?
- 54:18Because Friday it was Yasmani Grandal, Michael A Taylor Rowdy
- 54:22to let. Why Pause?
- 54:24Why? And I think there's probably a
- 54:27reason. I I may remember it when he was
- 54:29in Washington. I I probably heard the reason.
- 54:30But why? Why does Michael A Taylor always
- 54:33have his middle initial listed out?
- 54:37That's a great question. I don't know, couldn't tell you.
- 54:44Like, I'm not, I'm not saying like Yasmani.
- 54:47Specific requests to to choose what they're called, right?
- 54:51That's fair. It's just I'm not sitting here
- 54:54going like Yasmani de Grandal. That's true.
- 55:00Are there any other middle initials?
- 55:03I know JD Martinez loves having his full name on the back.
- 55:08That's it's not the same, but it's similar.
- 55:10Like on his name plate, on the jersey, it's it doesn't just say
- 55:13Martinez, but I think that goes back to his time in Detroit when
- 55:17he was with Victor. Victor, Yeah, yeah, Middle
- 55:23initial. I don't know.
- 55:27It's just interesting. Just I didn't know if maybe he
- 55:29knew Little little trivia up your sleeve, but yeah, it's
- 55:33interesting. You always hear, you never hear
- 55:35Michael Taylor. It's always Michael A Taylor.
- 55:37But no. The list of players that had a
- 55:39home run on Friday in this barrage of of offense.
- 55:42Yasmani Grandal, Michael A Taylor, Roddy Teles, Jack
- 55:45Zawinski, Bryan Reynolds, Rowdy Tolez and Bryan Reynolds each
- 55:52had two. More rowdy.
- 56:00I feel like the first base as a position across the league isn't
- 56:03very deep. Very, very shallow.
- 56:07This is like the year of the shortstop or the era of the
- 56:10shortstops. Man.
- 56:12First base is just not a deep well.
- 56:16Yeah, and you know, I got some, you mentioned that I got some
- 56:18kickback on, on my comments not too long ago when we were
- 56:23talking when Bobby Witt and Gunner Henderson were neck and
- 56:28neck making a push for the All Star starter and all that.
- 56:32We were talking about them and what an MVP race between those
- 56:36two would look like in the future.
- 56:37And I, I said something to the effect of like we're in AI think
- 56:41I said we're in a golden age of shortstops.
- 56:45And I got a lot of kickback on that.
- 56:46And I'm like, I, I'm not sitting here saying it's the golden age,
- 56:51but to say that it's a like, think about the name.
- 56:54Yeah. What why?
- 56:56Who would disagree with that? Like look around the league.
- 56:59Yeah. I mean, say what you want about
- 57:01Francisco Lindor, you got Francisco Lindor, Trey Turner,
- 57:04Gunnar Henderson, Bobby Witt. I mean like the list goes on and
- 57:07on. Willy Adamas, O'Neil Cruz, Ellie
- 57:10de la Cruz. You could put Volpe in that list
- 57:12if you wanted to. There I there's a lot of names
- 57:16you could put in there. And and sure some of those are
- 57:18are better than the others, but like the list collectively.
- 57:22Coming Group. Yeah, like that is a Tim
- 57:26Anderson's very strong list. Yeah, OK.
- 57:30Never thought I'd mention his name twice in in a podcast on my
- 57:33own. I like their own shade.
- 57:40Those crickets were not in lieu of of congratulations as they
- 57:44have been in the past. Those were just.
- 57:49But yeah, big night for the Pirates this weekend.
- 57:53Ty's a franchise record seven home runs.
- 57:56I can't imagine what are we the the pictures of fireworks going
- 58:02off behind PNC at night with the bridge lit up.
- 58:09That's got to be some of the coolest backdrop.
- 58:15That's beautiful. It's a beautiful sight.
- 58:22There wasn't really much going down this weekend, I'll be
- 58:24honest, in terms of like national news, national
- 58:27headlines. I mean, there's some some guys
- 58:29certainly that had exceptional outings, whether it be on the
- 58:33bumper to play. But in terms of big headlines,
- 58:35there wasn't too much going on this weekend.
- 58:38So I didn't really have much beyond this.
- 58:41Do you want to maybe want to maybe run through a?
- 58:45Shall we? Are we trying to balance?
- 58:46Are we trying to keep the momentum rolling here coming off
- 58:49fresh off a dub last episode? Yeah.
- 58:52A little bit of guess that player, all right.
- 58:56All right, all right. We're one and two.
- 59:03Thinking. We're one and two.
- 59:06OK, how about, how about, how about a rule here?
- 59:09Yeah, maybe not an everyday rule, just today's rule.
- 59:13Maybe a name. We haven't, at least to start
- 59:16it. You can't name a name that we've
- 59:18already mentioned today. Today.
- 59:20OK, Yeah, that's right. No, Yeah, that should be an
- 59:22ongoing rule like you don't want.
- 59:24To just to, just to start it, you know what I'm saying?
- 59:27For sure, for sure. There's too many, like there's
- 59:29too many instances where we could potentially say same name
- 59:33and we've been talking about them, you know for sure, but.
- 59:36There, yeah, but like after the initial guess that it's fair
- 59:40game. OK, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 59:42yeah, yeah, 100% 'cause if it leads us there, it leads us
- 59:44there, Yeah, it's not our fault. Yeah, that's just how the the
- 59:48cookie crumbles sometimes. OK, name we haven't mentioned
- 59:52today. Man, I got to think outside the
- 59:56box here because I feel like we've said a lot of names today.
- 59:58Should we? Especially would I ran through
- 1:00:01like the All Star names like we we listen a lot of games.
- 1:00:03We make a new rule that we're like the first name also has to
- 1:00:06be active or also has to be retired like should we?
- 1:00:10I think, I think it's kind of been an unspoken thing where
- 1:00:13we've gone present day, right? Active but someone that I've
- 1:00:17mentioned OK. I don't want to make too many
- 1:00:21rules. I don't want to.
- 1:00:22I don't want to coddle. I don't want to coddle ourselves
- 1:00:24here. All right.
- 1:00:26Name we haven't mentioned today. All right.
- 1:00:33OK. All right, I got a guy.
- 1:00:39You got a guy? Yep.
- 1:00:40Got a guy. I got a guy.
- 1:00:43All right, 321. Oh, OK, OK, OK, OK.
- 1:00:55Oh, there's some. There's OK.
- 1:00:58Yeah, Can you get? There.
- 1:01:02Can you get there? I think what if we got there
- 1:01:05right now on on guest #2? Can I get there?
- 1:01:08OK, all right. We got 10 guesses for For those
- 1:01:13who are unfamiliar or need a reminder, we got 10 guesses here
- 1:01:16to to land on the same guy. I'm almost going to be bummed if
- 1:01:18we get it right here because like, OK.
- 1:01:21No. Because that's like so fast.
- 1:01:23That's like, we're never going to top this.
- 1:01:25This is going to be this is going to be a record thing.
- 1:01:28OK, All right, 321 Madison Bumgarner.
- 1:01:35I thought you were playing subliminal games there when
- 1:01:38you're like, I'm really going to be bummed if we land on it here
- 1:01:41and that's why I was getting a little peeved.
- 1:01:43OK all right, I know you weren't playing that game.
- 1:01:45All right, so Madison Bumgarner and Christian Walker All right
- 1:01:48that like if we don't set a record here for shortest game
- 1:01:51like we're. Yeah, we're hanging out.
- 1:01:53We gotta figure something out here.
- 1:01:55Hanging out in Phoenix. Oh, I got it all right.
- 1:02:00Do you? OK, let's roll.
- 1:02:08What are we doing here? I don't know what are we what?
- 1:02:10Are we doing? What are we doing?
- 1:02:13All right, 3rd guest, 321 ratio, Marte.
- 1:02:18OK, dude, don't, don't lose me here.
- 1:02:23I mean. I don't know where are you?
- 1:02:25We're we're circling the drain here, man.
- 1:02:28Why? I don't know why you're going
- 1:02:30off into into retired land here, lefty.
- 1:02:37You're overthinking it. You're overthinking it.
- 1:02:39No, no, no. You're overthinking.
- 1:02:41There. No, no, no, no.
- 1:02:42Working your way around the the active Diamondbacks roster,
- 1:02:46yeah. That's what I'm doing.
- 1:02:49That's pretty much a cop out. There has to be what's in common
- 1:02:52with those two names. No, that's.
- 1:02:54The strategy? The ultimate goal is to land on
- 1:02:58the same name at the same time, so if that means just bouncing
- 1:03:01around the roster, that's what I'm gonna do.
- 1:03:04I hate it. I hate it.
- 1:03:09I think it's what those guys have in common.
- 1:03:11That's the whole point, That's what I think.
- 1:03:13I'm real close to pulling the plug and restarting this because
- 1:03:16I don't like the way this game has gone.
- 1:03:18Thus far. We're three guesses deep, you
- 1:03:20said Randy Johnson. You said Katell Marte.
- 1:03:24Katell Marte. I think that's the whole point.
- 1:03:30I think that's the whole point is with those, because that
- 1:03:33could change. I I know based on where we go,
- 1:03:38there we go. I let us stray, I LED us astray
- 1:03:42for the sake of trying to just expedite the the the guessing
- 1:03:45here. That's all I needed.
- 1:03:47OK. All right.
- 1:03:50Randy Johnson and Katella Marte. I got it, I'm there.
- 1:04:00How this could really throw us off though.
- 1:04:03This. Could.
- 1:04:06This could really mess with us. Cattell, Marte, Randy Johnson.
- 1:04:14This could really set. That you have a name already
- 1:04:17doesn't doesn't make sense to me.
- 1:04:21Well, I do. Randy Johnson and Cattell Marte.
- 1:04:37What? Oh, OK, I've got a name.
- 1:04:46And I'm just doing this just to just to piss you off, if I'm
- 1:04:50being honest. No, hold on, hold on.
- 1:04:53I need to confirm something real quick.
- 1:04:58Or you're giving. You're giving me a hint that I
- 1:05:00think I would. It would change my.
- 1:05:02It would change. No, you're, you're 1000% not
- 1:05:05guessing this person. I, I and I was like 99% sure
- 1:05:07about what I needed to confirm. And I was, I was right.
- 1:05:10So we're good. All right.
- 1:05:12This is our fourth guess. 3 You got a guy.
- 1:05:15Yeah. 321 Richie Sexton. Wow.
- 1:05:21OK, OK, OK. We're going back.
- 1:05:25We're going back to the days, Tony.
- 1:05:28Womack and Richie Sexton. It's a throwback.
- 1:05:31Name ain't it? Both of them are, yeah.
- 1:05:35You don't hear Richie Sexton much.
- 1:05:36You really? Don't.
- 1:05:37Why would that piss me off? Because I thought you were just
- 1:05:41because you, you arrived at a name so quickly that I thought
- 1:05:44yours just probably made sense. And I just wasn't getting that.
- 1:05:47I wasn't picking up on your logic.
- 1:05:49So it's like I'm just going to throw out a guy that played for
- 1:05:51the the D backs for like a year. We also have one of the shortest
- 1:05:54guys and one of the tallest guys, so that'll be.
- 1:05:59That's true. Richie Sexton and Tony.
- 1:06:08I said a year. He literally played 23 games for
- 1:06:11them. That's.
- 1:06:13Why you remember playing with him in in like old school video
- 1:06:17games? Backyard baseball.
- 1:06:18Yeah, like, no, I mean, like, like, I don't know if he was.
- 1:06:22I think he was in like MLB The Show.
- 1:06:25Are you talking? Who are we talking?
- 1:06:26Richie Sexton, Yeah. And like, he's like, you could
- 1:06:29only see like, the shoulders because he was so tall.
- 1:06:32Yeah. I think I think at backyard
- 1:06:34baseball he was with the. Brewers, Brewers.
- 1:06:37The Brew Crew. On that team or on that game?
- 1:06:40All right, I, I got a name. I got a name.
- 1:06:44This could this could throw us off a little bit.
- 1:06:47Richie Sexton and Tony Womack. This could this could lead us
- 1:06:59astray. I got one.
- 1:07:03OK, I got one. You feel good.
- 1:07:05This is our, what, Fifth guess? Yeah.
- 1:07:08All right, Yeah, I got one. I feel good about it. 321 Ricky
- 1:07:15Council. OK.
- 1:07:18OK, we're getting there. I don't like how many D backs
- 1:07:21we've been listing off, but again, we're circling the drain
- 1:07:24here so. Well, one could argue we've
- 1:07:26shifted gears into in Brewerland.
- 1:07:32Who did you say? Ricky Weeks.
- 1:07:36Did he play for the D backs too? I don't think so.
- 1:07:41I went Brewers. No, I I know he did play for the
- 1:07:44DI. Knew it.
- 1:07:46Yeah. 2016. How about that?
- 1:07:50That's funny. OK.
- 1:07:53Wow. He was in major.
- 1:07:54League Baseball, are we, are we working on that correlation now
- 1:07:57or is that where we're going to build off of well?
- 1:08:02That's what we have to do. Those two teams.
- 1:08:05No, no, no, no. Not necessarily.
- 1:08:07Just do what you got to do. No, no hints given here.
- 1:08:10Ricky Weeks. Ricky Weeks.
- 1:08:12Craig Council, One with a lot of swag, one that owes us some swag
- 1:08:18'cause he's. Now see, stop.
- 1:08:20Stop thinking out loud. This, this shifts my line of
- 1:08:23thinking around. That's not what we're doing
- 1:08:25here. You arrive.
- 1:08:27You arrive at your name on your own.
- 1:08:31I've got a name. You do.
- 1:08:34Yep, I'm not. I I'm getting to the point where
- 1:08:37I'm not putting as much thought into it because I'm not trying
- 1:08:39to drag the people out as long. OK, let's roll.
- 1:08:43All right, this is our six guests 321.
- 1:08:47Aramis Pokey Reese, Pokey Reese, Aramis Ramirez, Pokey Reese and
- 1:09:00Aramis Ramirez. Why can't I think of Pokey
- 1:09:05Reese's face? Lucas says 321 Chuck Norris
- 1:09:14it's. Such a throwback name, I love
- 1:09:21it. We got 4 guests left.
- 1:09:28Pokey, Reese, Anna. Ramis Ramirez.
- 1:09:34That's World Series champion Pokey Reese to you.
- 1:09:39Pokey Reese and Aramis Ramirez. 4 guesses left Think chat What
- 1:09:52do these people have in common? Pokey Reese, Aramis Ramirez.
- 1:10:07I got a name. I don't have a name.
- 1:10:08I got a name. It's it's sort of loose logic,
- 1:10:16but I it's there. Is it?
- 1:10:18Yeah, very loose. So loose that it's purely just
- 1:10:29to get a name off. What does that mean?
- 1:10:34I just don't want to think about it too much.
- 1:10:36You're just tired of thinking about it.
- 1:10:37No, it's just that I don't want to.
- 1:10:39I don't 'cause then I I start spitting myself in circles with
- 1:10:42with logic. All right, whatever, let's roll.
- 1:10:46Playing fast and loose here. Yeah, four.
- 1:10:48What did I say? 4 guesses left.
- 1:10:50I have no logic, it's actually mine, but I'm just going to go
- 1:10:52for it, yeah. 321 Edgar Entoria. I have no idea where your logic
- 1:11:02came from. Ramos Ramirez Cubs rival of the
- 1:11:07Card or Cardinals rival of the Cubs.
- 1:11:10Pokey Reese beat the Cardinals in the World Series 2004 Edgar
- 1:11:14Renteria final out. It's loose, but it's logic.
- 1:11:19That's not bad. That's pretty good.
- 1:11:22That's pretty good. I I told you I didn't have any
- 1:11:24logic. Tony Clark and who?
- 1:11:28Edgar Renteria. All right, let's let's send it.
- 1:11:41Who did I say? Edgar and Turia?
- 1:11:43Yeah, and Tony Clark. I think they got some stuff in
- 1:11:49common man. I feel like they do.
- 1:11:52Yeah. All right.
- 1:12:00All right, All right. OK.
- 1:12:05All right. OK, three guesses left three.
- 1:12:08OK, 21 David Ortiz. Ah, OK.
- 1:12:15Like we're, we're, we're there. Yeah, how'd you get the sky
- 1:12:19rolling? Edgar and Turia Cardos
- 1:12:23infielder. Did I thought Tony Womack or
- 1:12:27Tony Clark played? Did he?
- 1:12:28Did he play for the Cardos or am I crazy?
- 1:12:29Tony Clark played for everybody, I think.
- 1:12:34See, I was going like abstract. I knew he played for the Tigers.
- 1:12:38I knew he played for the D backs.
- 1:12:39I swore he played for the Cardinals.
- 1:12:41Did. He I was going like first base
- 1:12:43DH, like who do you think of, you know?
- 1:12:48But what does that have to do with Edgar Venturia?
- 1:12:51It's like the controversial DH being in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:12:54David Ortiz. I don't know, it's pretty loose.
- 1:12:57No, dude, not Edgar Martinez. Edgar Venturia.
- 1:13:01Oh, Edgar and Turia. Edgar and.
- 1:13:04Turia, you just heard Edgar and we're like, oh, that's good.
- 1:13:08Oh dude, it did. If it was Edgar Martinez, I'm
- 1:13:12easily getting to. To David Ortiz for sure.
- 1:13:16That's my bad. For sure.
- 1:13:18That's where we at now. Where we at now?
- 1:13:20We're at David Ortiz. And who and what would you say?
- 1:13:25What did I just say? You.
- 1:13:29Oh, Scott. Roland.
- 1:13:31Scott Roland and David Ortiz. I got it.
- 1:13:38Come on man, don't overthink this one.
- 1:13:41I think I've I think I gave us an extra guess, but I do we have
- 1:13:453 left. I feel like I gave us an extra
- 1:13:47guess here. I'm overthinking this right now.
- 1:13:53I feel like my brain's moving a little quicker than other night,
- 1:13:55so maybe I just got to it quicker and I didn't have to
- 1:13:57think about it too much, but it makes sense to me.
- 1:14:03OK. I got Scott Roland.
- 1:14:06And who did you say? David Ortiz.
- 1:14:09Yeah. All right.
- 1:14:10Yeah, I got a name. OK, Three guesses left.
- 1:14:13Three. OK. 21 Robert Buhlholz.
- 1:14:20OK, that's not terrible. That's not.
- 1:14:22We can work with that with two guesses left.
- 1:14:25Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols. Let's get this record back to
- 1:14:29500, OK? We're sitting at 1:00 and 2:00.
- 1:14:31We're sitting at one and two. We've got a one game-winning
- 1:14:35streak right now. Can we can we capitalize here?
- 1:14:39Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols. Ryan, Howard and Albert.
- 1:14:51Pujols, I got a name.
- 1:15:07You don't love it, do you? Not wild about it.
- 1:15:10I'm not wild about mine. But it's again, kind of, you
- 1:15:16know, playing fast and loose here.
- 1:15:18OK. All right. 321.
- 1:15:27Miguel. Cabrera, OH.
- 1:15:32OK. I was just thinking like first
- 1:15:35baseman in that era of that, of that bracket.
- 1:15:39Miguel Cabrera I got. I got how you got there.
- 1:15:41I think at one point or another during this game, Miguel Cabrera
- 1:15:44is coming to mind too. So he's been, he's been there,
- 1:15:46he's been floating for me. OK, that's good.
- 1:15:49That's good. OK, Last guest, Bryce Harper and
- 1:15:53Miguel Cabrera. Bryce Harper and Miguel Cabrera.
- 1:16:04I don't know if we can overcome this one.
- 1:16:05This one's this one's tough, Bryce.
- 1:16:11Harper and Miguel Cabrera. I don't.
- 1:16:20I kind of have a name but like not I don't feel great about it.
- 1:16:25Bryce Harper. Miguel Cabrera.
- 1:16:32Yeah, I got a name, too. I'm not crazy about it.
- 1:16:35And we'll probably might just have to take yell on this one,
- 1:16:37but I'm gonna go with it. You ready?
- 1:16:41321 Mike Ryan Zimmerman. That's tough talk.
- 1:16:50The L. Mike Trout.
- 1:16:53Where was the Trout one? Where were the Where was the
- 1:16:56brain going? Great.
- 1:16:57One of the greatest right-handed hitters of our generation,
- 1:17:00Miggy, Bryce Harper, kind of in that like one of the greater
- 1:17:05hitters we've seen our generation, but also very
- 1:17:10closely connected obviously and tied to Mike Trout with their
- 1:17:14careers and getting called up and all that.
- 1:17:18Yeah, that was stab in the dark there.
- 1:17:22I was going like started off at a different position, moved to
- 1:17:25first base, and then I kind of use the McGill logic of like
- 1:17:29just stuck around just like a little too.
- 1:17:31Long. That's fair, yeah.
- 1:17:33You know what I mean? That's tough with Harper though.
- 1:17:36Like I I definitely get the Miggy.
- 1:17:38I have a feeling that's that could be a thing towards towards
- 1:17:42the end of this, towards the end of this contract, it could feel
- 1:17:45awfully Miggy Cabrera like. Yeah, I mean, if goodness, if if
- 1:17:51Miguel Cabrera. Seven years left.
- 1:17:53Yeah, if Miguel Cabrera, if Miguel Cabrera has a fall off, I
- 1:17:57don't think, I don't think Bryce Harper's immune to a fall off.
- 1:18:00That's. What I'm saying that's fair.
- 1:18:02That's fair. OK.
- 1:18:03I hate to. I hate to say that I don't.
- 1:18:06I'm going to cover my eyes when that time comes.
- 1:18:08I don't. I don't want to see it.
- 1:18:09I might just stop watching baseball so I don't have to
- 1:18:11experience it. Could be a topic for a different
- 1:18:13day. Yeah, I.
- 1:18:14Don't know that's. It's hard.
- 1:18:15It's hard to see a hero fade. It's not easy.
- 1:18:19Sad day, man, sad day. Speaking of that, I guess I'm
- 1:18:22going to go for. I hate to see a hero go.
- 1:18:26Love to watch him leave. Yeah, that's all we got.
