- 0:25All right, live from the barracks.
- 0:27This is WASD and beyond. I am.
- 0:31We are your hosts this week, Nick Elliott and Evan.
- 0:36Hello, everybody. Elliott, you've been on the
- 0:37show, what, a couple times, I think.
- 0:42Like 3 or 4. I don't know.
- 0:44I know we did like a super old episode and it was about like,
- 0:48like we were talking about Tarkov.
- 0:50Yeah. And then I think I was on one.
- 0:54I don't know. We were talking about music and
- 0:55Nick spread false information that I like ska music.
- 0:59Yep. Did I do that?
- 1:01Yeah, yeah, I, I forget what that episode was about.
- 1:03Maybe it was about like Tony Hawk or something like that.
- 1:05I don't know. Oh, that.
- 1:07Yeah, maybe it was about soundtracks.
- 1:10We did do an entire. Soundtrack.
- 1:11Yeah, I think it could have been because Noah was the one who.
- 1:14Yeah. Speaking of music, I noticed
- 1:15that my music's no longer the the music use for the podcast.
- 1:19That's fine, whatever. I had to shorten it down and.
- 1:21Yeah, I get, but I. Used elsewhere.
- 1:23It's being used elsewhere. You know, it is what it is.
- 1:26I've been out the game for a minute, you know?
- 1:28Oh my. I've been out the game.
- 1:29It's a revolving thing. Well, on the show we like to
- 1:33hurt Nick's feelings and make him feel like a bad guy because
- 1:36arguably I can be a bad guy. But you know who aren't bad

- 2:19Covenera joke yeah real, because I think it was when I it was

- 3:23Yes. Why say lot word when so little
- 3:26word do Yes. Anyways, that very good, very
- 3:30good boys lot. Word do, yes.
- 3:33Lot word do yes. Little word do, yes.
- 3:36Little. Word anyways, so let's get right
- 3:38into it because we have lot do tonight.
- 3:41Correct. Yes, we do.
- 3:42Let's just go right into the topic we're talking about.
- 3:44Battlefield 6 is beta. This is a game that I think all
- 3:47three of us have been waiting a long time to really see what
- 3:50they were going to do with the recent releases of Battlefield
- 3:54games. It's it's it's been shit show,
- 3:57right? Because I grew up on three and
- 3:59four, Bad Company 3 and 4. And I remember when those games
- 4:02came out and it was just like, holy shit.
- 4:04Like you can do this in a game, like in an FDS game.
- 4:07Oh yeah. Like you can make these Tom
- 4:09Cruise level of like like plays right where you're driving a
- 4:13tank. It's off a fucking building
- 4:16essentially into a fucking helicopter and just firing and
- 4:19blowing a helicopter up, landing shit like that.
- 4:22Like it's levels of that I've seen people put a tank on top of
- 4:25an airplane or helicopter, fly up and use the tank as like a
- 4:29fucking sentry. The.
- 4:31Classic the the classic as they say, the only in battlefield
- 4:34moments. I mean like the like, like the,
- 4:36the the classic clip on, I don't remember the map.
- 4:41It's scene crossing. There we go.
- 4:43No, not scene crossing. Why am I thinking of that
- 4:44Caspian border? There we go.
- 4:45Because I think that's where the original clip where the guy
- 4:48jumped out of the the the jet and sniped the other guy and
- 4:51stole it. Yeah, I think that was on
- 4:53Caspian border. I would assume so.
- 4:54Yes, yes, there was a there was one of there's been a handful of
- 4:58them. But I do vividly remember on
- 4:59Caspian, I think it was in Battlefield 3, guy jumps out of
- 5:03a jet, turns around, shoots the other jet with a rocket and gets
- 5:07back in his own jet. And they even they even featured
- 5:10it in the in the in the flop that was 2042.
- 5:13Yes, they did. That in the trailer.
- 5:15Sorry. Yeah, 2042.
- 5:17Yeah, no, you're absolutely a mess of a game.
- 5:20I have AI, have Vivid, like I can recall my times playing each
- 5:26Battlefield game 'cause I started with Battlefield 2 and I
- 5:32played Battlefield 2 and then Battlefield 2.
- 5:35Like they had DLC and one of them was like special.
- 5:38Yeah, all the individual like, all the individual like cases of
- 5:40CDs that you had to have. Yeah, I'm sure we still have
- 5:44them somewhere. That's so cool.
- 5:45But there was one that was like a special operations that I
- 5:48remember very well because it was all based around like night
- 5:50maps and night equipment. So like you would have like
- 5:54there was like 1 map where it was like a hill, like a winding
- 5:58hill. It would lead up to like a big
- 5:59compound in the way you got, the way you could get over the
- 6:01compound because you couldn't get through the front door.
- 6:02I think was you had like a just an old school like grappling
- 6:06hook that you would just throw. And you would just hope it would
- 6:09catch. On to something.
- 6:10And if it did, you would just slowly climb up and you just
- 6:13hear the rope animation because they couldn't do hands.
- 6:15So you just wait until you got to the top.
- 6:18But I remember things like that. I remember playing Battlefield
- 6:20Vietnam with the AI and actually having to like push around a map
- 6:24and like capture objectives. I remember 2042 and Carrier
- 6:28Assault and how fun that was. I think they call it something
- 6:32different back then. I could be wrong and then I.
- 6:35Yeah, 2142, the future is to. 2142.
- 6:38Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because they were they, Yeah,
- 6:40because they were the flying ones and you had like the mech
- 6:42suits and all that. Yeah, I, I, I very vaguely
- 6:46remember playing that one. I very, yeah, I I can only
- 6:50remember a couple, a couple missions on a booze fun.
- 6:53I remember playing a little bit of Bad Company one on the Xbox.
- 6:57I'm I don't think I ever finished it.
- 6:59I do remember playing Bad Company 2 and loving that story
- 7:02and then loving the multiplayer and the DLC.
- 7:05The Vietnam DLC was great, especially the little feature
- 7:07like the Huey's and Jeeps had actual like real music from the
- 7:11time playing. And so you would just be able to
- 7:14listen to that while you were getting shot at.
- 7:17And then of course, yeah, Battlefield 3 was like this
- 7:20monster of a. Game beautiful.
- 7:22Game beautiful. Game it was, it was beautiful,
- 7:25it had a story, it had a Co-op mode that was actually really
- 7:27fun and it had a great multiplayer like system.
- 7:33I think after they got, you know, as all Battlefield games
- 7:36do or modern ones, do, they have to go through a period of
- 7:39cleanup? Yeah, a little break in, a
- 7:41little break in period, yeah. But then we got, I mean, you
- 7:45know, 3 was the best. I mean, in my opinion, the best
- 7:47to do it because of what it did. It was just from the get had a
- 7:51lot of maps. But then you also, I mean, I've
- 7:54we've been replaying it, Elliot and I and just the sheer number.
- 7:59There's five maps for DLC. There's five DLC.
- 8:02Like there's just this plethora of different environments and
- 8:05they're all very unique and they're all, some of them can be
- 8:08very chaotic, like Grand Bazaar, and then some of them like
- 8:13Alborz Mountains or Bandar Desert or, you know, there are
- 8:18those really long range engagement ones where you really
- 8:20rely on vehicles or sniping and things like that.
- 8:23And it's just like 4 did the same, made it a little better.
- 8:28And then yeah, we kind of got into it.
- 8:30I think they got into a weird period after one where they
- 8:33weren't really sure what they wanted to do and.
- 8:36Yeah, I mean, I, I, so I, I started way back on, I think it
- 8:41was Bad Company too, was when I started on, I would, while my
- 8:46brother was at work, I would sneak into his room and I'd play
- 8:49it on his computer. And then he also, he also had
- 8:52Battlefield 2. And I remember going back and
- 8:54playing those because I, I seem to remember you could do your
- 8:58own little like kind of multiplayer kind of thing.
- 9:00You could like pick your maps and then it would just have like
- 9:02a bunch of bots you were playing against.
- 9:05But I remember like going, I remember going over to my
- 9:07cousin's house and they had Bad Company too and I had played it
- 9:13a little bit on my brother's computer.
- 9:16Obviously, you know, when he didn't know, he knew he knew.
- 9:20I got yelled at and in trouble for it a couple times, but you
- 9:22know, it is what it is. Anyway, so good.
- 9:26I remember they were playing in and I, I forget the name of the
- 9:29map. It's a desert map.
- 9:31Non descriptive of Bad Company too.
- 9:33I understand, but you have, you know, obviously your one spawn,
- 9:39the other spawn and you got the the helicopters.
- 9:41I remember my cousin was trying to fly the helicopter and he
- 9:43couldn't figure it out and he just kept crashing.
- 9:46And I remember going let me try, let me try.
- 9:49And I and I grabbed that controller and I flew the
- 9:52helicopter and right then and there I was like, this is truly
- 9:56the best game I've ever played. And ever since then, I mean, I,
- 9:59that's all I do in Battlefield at this point is I just, I fly
- 10:02the helicopter planes, little bit helicopters.
- 10:05That's my thing. And then the, you know, the love
- 10:07grew. Obviously, you know, Battlefield
- 10:101 and Battlefield 5, you know, no helicopters.
- 10:13But, you know, we would always just go back to Battlefield 4
- 10:15for stuff like that. And then, yeah, 2042 came out
- 10:20and I played a lot of Battlefield 4, you know?
- 10:27I think, I think that's pretty much the trajectory of what
- 10:31happened with Battlefield, right?
- 10:33It's like we had such good grand slams with Battlefield games,
- 10:37like in a, in a sea of like Call of Duty, we had the one game
- 10:42where it felt everything felt rewarding In Battlefield, if you
- 10:47accomplish something in a Battlefield game, it's because
- 10:49you fought to accomplish that. That's like all I've ever
- 10:53thought. And Evan and I have talked a
- 10:55couple times over the past couple weeks about like our
- 10:58experiences with Battlefield. We both said almost essentially
- 11:01the same thing where when I first started playing
- 11:03Battlefield, to me it was Battlefield.
- 11:07And I'm going to say this like is like simply and dumb as I
- 11:10can. I guess.
- 11:11Battlefield's for the big boys, Call of Duty's for the babies.
- 11:15That's just how it's always felt to me.
- 11:16Like if you're playing Battlefield, you're playing the
- 11:19tougher shooter like the big boy shooter, like where it every
- 11:23misstep matters and you will get fucked for your missteps.
- 11:27And that's why I loved Battlefield so much.
- 11:30I loved it for those moments. I loved it for just how either
- 11:34fast-paced and or like slow the game can get dependent upon the
- 11:38map and how your play style is. If you're a sniper, this game
- 11:42lends itself to you immaculately.
- 11:45If you want to fly a fucking fighter jet and destroy anything
- 11:48and everything around you, you can do that in this game.
- 11:52And I've just loved it because of those reasons.
- 11:54Now, obviously with Battlefield 5 and 2042, we've kind of gotten
- 12:02shafted. Well, you don't have to talk too
- 12:04bad on Battlefield 5, but. I was going to say 5 has. 5 has
- 12:07definitely, I think redeemed itself in some aspects and at
- 12:10the core it was always still battlefield I think.
- 12:13Oh yeah, this is kind of at the core of the conversation right
- 12:16now. I think when it comes to this
- 12:17community and, and just where the, I think the players wanted
- 12:20to go, the the community wants it to go.
- 12:22And there are certain people in the community that are, I was
- 12:26going to say influencers, but that's not the word I'd use.
- 12:28I'd say more creators, they're Youtubers and things like that
- 12:34where there's this conversation around around closed weapons and
- 12:37open weapons. And when 2042 went to the
- 12:40specialist system with you can use every single weapon that you
- 12:44any weapon that you want for any specialist.
- 12:47That was at the core of it for like me.
- 12:49I remember that and seeing that going, Oh, that's not
- 12:52battlefield like so it's just that's like the kind of the
- 12:55defining feature are the four classes like.
- 12:59Yeah, 100% like, like each, each role, each, each class has its
- 13:03role in the match, right. And, you know, and that goes
- 13:06beyond just the four main classes, right.
- 13:08Because again, you know, you have the people like me who know
- 13:11life, sweat the helicopters, and then you have the people, people
- 13:14in the tanks and you have the people on the planes.
- 13:17Like Battlefield has always been like a like, like Call of Duty,
- 13:22right? It's just a run and gun for the
- 13:23most part, right? You know, a lot of people play
- 13:25the team deathmatch modes and, and whatnot.
- 13:28I've played them, you know, we've, we all have.
- 13:29Everybody, we've all played them together.
- 13:31And but the beautiful thing about Battlefield is it's been
- 13:35more of you can be like the the the sweatiest player in
- 13:40Battlefield and get all of the kills in the world.
- 13:43But if it's not like a ticket based game mode, it's not going
- 13:48to do shit. You know, it's not going to do
- 13:50anything if you aren't playing the team role game.
- 13:53And that's what. That's.
- 13:54Nailed it exactly. And that's exactly it, right?
- 13:57Like working as a team or a squad in battlefield matters.
- 14:01Call of Duty, you can have that one player.
- 14:04Evan just does it. Evan or Julian, Sometimes
- 14:07Elliot. Don't even throw me who never.
- 14:09Me run off and go. Yeah, I was going to say don't,
- 14:12don't, don't throw me in there. This game, Battlefield, it's
- 14:16also important to me because the meta doesn't matter here.
- 14:21Like it can, it can, but you don't have to play the something
- 14:27I want to talk about in this episode is the streamer tragedy
- 14:31that is plaguing these games. But like you don't have to
- 14:35follow the streamer method where it's like, OK, you see this
- 14:37fucking submachine gun. If you put this attachment on it
- 14:40and you put this butt stock on it and you put this fucking site
- 14:42on it and you put this barrel to fuck off.
- 14:45Let me play the game I want to play. 100% agree that that that
- 14:49always drove me crazy about Call of Duty.
- 14:51And that's, you know, one of the things of like, so like I didn't
- 14:55play much of Call of Duty after like Modern Warfare 2, really.
- 14:59And maybe a little bit of three. And then older ones I picked
- 15:03back. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 15:04Correct. Yeah.
- 15:05The original 2. And then I got into 2019 and
- 15:12that's that's what we meant. Now you got you.
- 15:14Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 15:15Yeah, Yeah, it is. Yeah.
- 15:16Because Julian invited me to the server.
- 15:18Yeah. You guys can correct me if I'm
- 15:20wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure 2019 is when that like the
- 15:24meta, right? The meta guns really started.
- 15:27I think. That boom.
- 15:30It was like that was kind of like, if you want us, I would
- 15:32say that 2019 was sort of like this incubator period where
- 15:37people kind of found that that was the method.
- 15:39And then I think it was when Warzone dropped because it was
- 15:43free to play and it was, it was everybody could play it and and
- 15:46you had was it free? To play initially I thought, I
- 15:49thought you had to own it. OK, OK.
- 15:51No, it was it was free to play from the from the jump.
- 15:53That was the that was the factor or the like the way to get you
- 15:56in right was, oh, you want to play the new COD?
- 15:58We want you to play the new COD too.
- 15:59Well, you can play the battle Royale mode that's free and
- 16:02maybe if you want, you can buy the actual game.
- 16:04But I think that's what happened because I was there for the
- 16:07beginning of war zone and that's what would happen is especially
- 16:11when they started getting into like, hey, this is the next
- 16:15Black Ops Cold War and guess what?
- 16:18All of those weapons are going to be integrated into war zone
- 16:22and then war zones going to be shared across all these
- 16:24different games. And that's when it started to
- 16:28become this thing of, OK, well, let's have a let's have a meta
- 16:31that people can follow. And I don't think it was
- 16:33necessarily on the fault of the developers.
- 16:34Like it was deliberately them picking which gun to make good.
- 16:37But it was the streamer culture and it was kind of the, I would
- 16:41just say social media in general.
- 16:42Everybody's trying to get clicks.
- 16:43That's the way you make money. And how best, how best to do
- 16:46that than to tell a whole bunch of people who are trying to just
- 16:48play the game because most people are just getting off
- 16:50work. They have a couple hours.
- 16:51They want to be able to, you know, own some games and call it
- 16:55a night. And the best way to do that is
- 16:57to look up what best, what's the best kit to use right now.
- 17:00I did it myself. And I think that was lost on us
- 17:04because we were all sucked into 2019 and then it just kind of
- 17:07was a cycle of games coming out. But like when you step out of
- 17:09that bubble and you look at the games of old, especially
- 17:12Battlefield games, I mean, at the time, Battlefield 3 and 4
- 17:15would have certain metas to follow or you would do certain
- 17:18things that the rest of the community was doing because
- 17:19there was like a bug or something like that.
- 17:22But I remember very vividly in Battlefield 4 that when any gun
- 17:24was overpowered, the community was like, tone it down.
- 17:27Yeah, there was no. No gun should be overpowered in
- 17:30the others. The MP 2000 in Battlefield 3.
- 17:33Ridiculous. The USAS, especially with frag
- 17:35rounds. Oh my God, like like you.
- 17:37Just weren't getting past it at that point.
- 17:39Right. Yeah, it was you.
- 17:40Just had to suffer it. Was ridiculous and and the
- 17:43servers, the servers 'cause you used to be able to, you know,
- 17:45pay for your own servers or run them.
- 17:47They used to be like whatever game mode, whatever maps, No
- 17:50F2000, no USAS. What would be like the servers
- 17:54who didn't ban them? Well, yeah, I'd say the servers
- 17:57that didn't ban the guns outright, the notes like if if
- 18:01caught using these will be kicked and banned.
- 18:04And it's like, Yup, very good. Yup.
- 18:06They're still. They're still like with.
- 18:07That shit. There's like a server online now
- 18:10for Battlefield 4. I think it's either a rush or
- 18:12it's just a conquest, but it's a 24/7 Perl locker and metro.
- 18:17So it's all three of the close quarters maps.
- 18:18And it literally says in the server title, no mortars, no
- 18:22grenade launchers, none of this stupid shit that, you know, you
- 18:25guys love to use, which is like some people will argue and say,
- 18:28well, that's you know, that's part of the game.
- 18:30And my my thing is go find a different server that allows it
- 18:34'cause this server specifically says.
- 18:36There's a lot there. Dudes don't use it and it's
- 18:38like, and I would argue that it, I mean, if you're looking to get
- 18:41into infantry only gameplay, those are the maps to do it on.
- 18:44It's incredibly hard to do that when there's just one guy on the
- 18:47only outside section section of operation locker with a mortar
- 18:53and there's nothing you can do about it because I mean, let's
- 18:55be honest, it's incredibly hard to see in that game whenever
- 18:57there's snow. Oh, so it's terrible, terrible,
- 19:00terrible visibility. But like I think that that to
- 19:03lead into the beta portion of it is what 6 has captured so well
- 19:09of three and four is that I mean, people have done straight
- 19:12up comparisons now. The Sprint speed is damn near
- 19:15the same. Actually.
- 19:16It's a mile per hour slower in Battlefield 6 than it is in
- 19:20three and four. You actually run slower in six
- 19:24like and I think with the knife is what makes you like the knife
- 19:30and knife out. Yeah right.
- 19:32And that was and, and it and it doesn't go faster than three and
- 19:36four. I think it's actually like a .1
- 19:39less speed less in terms of the game speed.
- 19:42So it's like basically, damn, you're the same.
- 19:45And I think that that is what it's done for me.
- 19:48Like I love that there's no tactical Sprint.
- 19:50I love that I just hold shift or I tap shift and boom this is my
- 19:541 speed. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:56And then if I and there's none, sorry, I'm sorry.
- 19:59No, go ahead. It was about the running thing.
- 20:01It's I like how they didn't add like the operator esque.
- 20:06When you start running, you put your gun up here, you know, it's
- 20:09just it's nice and it's nice and toned down.
- 20:11It's simple. Just yeah, OK, I'm, I'm just
- 20:13booking it. You know I'm just beating feet
- 20:14right now. Beating feet, good hip sway,
- 20:17good shoulder sway. And it's I got your momentum.
- 20:20Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, and I think that's also
- 20:23another thing too that I really like about the movement is that
- 20:25there I feel like there is a scent of a sense of momentum or
- 20:28inertia. And like we've experienced that.
- 20:32Elliot, I don't think you really played it a lot during this
- 20:34time, Nick, but Elliot and I definitely experienced like the
- 20:36inertia, major inertia change in Tarkov when you got.
- 20:39Super slot I I knew where this was going I.
- 20:42Just because you knew, you knew you heard that word.
- 20:44I did. Play.
- 20:45Through it I got triggered. I did play through it because
- 20:49you were like, hey, do this, this and that and try this.
- 20:51And I did it and I'm like, why am I like a brick in like a tar
- 20:56pit? Right now you're like a British
- 20:57shit house. Terrible.
- 20:58It was terrible. Like it's like what is this bad?
- 21:01But this felt really quick. Fuck you.
- 21:02Nikita, you suck. You're garbage.
- 21:05Like give me my account back. Yeah, please give his account
- 21:09back. Actually don't.
- 21:11Actually don't. I'm way, I'm way over here.
- 21:12You're not playing tar golf. I'm way happier.
- 21:15I'm over it. Like there was a, I lost my
- 21:20train of thought now, but like it in relation to oh, to the
- 21:22movement and inertia and all that sort of stuff was that I
- 21:25feel like it has this perfect mix, though, where it's it's
- 21:28very distinctively feels like Battlefield where I cannot do
- 21:31stupid, like crazy shit, but like.
- 21:35I haven't slide around everywhere.
- 21:37And right, but you have. Streamers, but that's another
- 21:39thing from streamer culture dude, it's that twitch play.
- 21:42But, and that's what I think people need to find the the joy
- 21:45in and especially this game because it gives you these
- 21:48options. But Battlefield 1 introduced I
- 21:50think a a slide mechanic and it was very short, but it added
- 21:53something to it because it gave you this one last little bit of
- 21:57movement to get into cover. And I challenge like it's great
- 22:02to get like a clip where you kill like 4 people with some
- 22:05crazy headshots. It's equal as I would argue.
- 22:08It's actually cooler and it feels way more satisfying to be
- 22:11running by a tank and to just slide into cover at the last
- 22:15second before you return to toast.
- 22:17Way cooler. Which is which is realistic,
- 22:20yes, simple as that. Simple as that, you know.
- 22:23Yeah. And and I think it it, it, it
- 22:25has that perfect blend, right. And we talked about that too,
- 22:27where like if there's caught on one side and squad towards the
- 22:31other or armor towards the other, battlefield has like
- 22:34should lean in that direction towards the the sort of SIM or
- 22:37realism side of things. But it is just Arcadia enough
- 22:40and just easy enough. And I use that term loosely
- 22:44because we just talked about how it should be the harder of the
- 22:46two and it should be, but it should be way more accessible
- 22:49than a squad type of game or hell out loose because those
- 22:52games are like those games are like you load up and they're
- 22:54like, you better have a mic. You better know how to
- 22:56communicate. You better know this Battlefield
- 22:58is Battlefield is the perfect blend of you can have that style
- 23:01of gameplay where it's intense and tactical and like military,
- 23:05but you don't need to communicate with people other
- 23:08than I mean, I mean, in in Battlefield you can communicate
- 23:10with just the Kamaros that's been in the game forever.
- 23:14And like that's entirely what it's based around.
- 23:15I mean, that's so that's what always cracked me up when like
- 23:18Siege and Overwatch, they're like we have an an emo wheel
- 23:22now, so you can like point things out.
- 23:23It's like Battlefield's been doing that shit since fucking
- 23:25like Battlefield bad company too.
- 23:28Or yeah, yes, it's probably Vietnam like.
- 23:32So yeah, I, I think that it it, like I said it, the movement and
- 23:36and those sorts of things lends itself to it feeling like a
- 23:39Battlefield game. But it has all these modern
- 23:41appointments that feel so nice. You know, it runs great.
- 23:45It's the best running Battlefield beta I've ever
- 23:46played. It's, it's, it's fantastic.
- 23:49And, and again, it, it's, it's hard to, to fully accept because
- 23:53again, look at every single Battlefield relation, how it's
- 23:56been a rocky start. The beta is more flushed out
- 24:00than the past like 5 Battlefield games have been at launch.
- 24:05It's incredible. We kept saying just release it
- 24:07as is right now. We'll play this right now. 100%
- 24:10I would. I've already sunk like I've
- 24:11already sunk like I'm not going to lie, right?
- 24:14I'm a little ashamed. I don't I don't want to look how
- 24:16many hours I've put into it, but like the first weekend of the of
- 24:18the beta, I played it every single day it released today.
- 24:22I've put in that. Are you looking it up?
- 24:24I can see it on your. I can see it on your screen in
- 24:27the reflection. I can, I can see you just pulled
- 24:29up Steam. I only, I only say it cuz I
- 24:31think you and I are actually pretty close and yeah, we are.
- 24:33You're actually only ahead of me by three hours on the Steam side
- 24:36of things. I have 30.4 and you have 33.2.
- 24:40Yeah, I put over a day. We've put over a day into this
- 24:43and I don't feel ashamed about it cuz it's so.
- 24:44Fun. No, neither do I It.
- 24:46It just sucks. It just sucks that in you know,
- 24:48after after Sunday we're going to have to wait two months.
- 24:51But it is yeah. You know what one one of the
- 24:55Evan and I were talking about it.
- 24:56I don't know a couple days ago, maybe it's when we were playing
- 24:59Battlefield 3 or 4 or something like that, but like this beta
- 25:02Battlefield 6 right. So over the past couple, you
- 25:07know, whatever during like the the the labs and the play
- 25:09testing before the beta right that I guess the alpha build.
- 25:13Yeah, it's alpha, yeah. Anyway, who cares?
- 25:16Whatever, you know, everyone was comparing it to, you know, like
- 25:22like when you join in on your squad, right, or like join in on
- 25:25your buddies and all that and they were talking about like,
- 25:27oh, well, I want this flushed out more.
- 25:28A lot of people are comparing that to Battlefield 4 and I feel
- 25:31like that's the biggest thing people keep doing with this
- 25:33game, right, comparing it to bad four.
- 25:35We've we, we've been doing that for however long.
- 25:37Three and four, yeah, and like. Really.
- 25:40You know, I, I, I think it's, I think it's fucking close, right?
- 25:45But I think it's almost unfair to compare it, right?
- 25:48Because you know, we all have this nostalgia to the
- 25:50Battlefield franchise, you know, wherever it may have started,
- 25:54right? But it all kind of focuses
- 25:55around 3:00 and then 4, right? But the thing that I love about
- 25:59it is you have those again, those only Battlefield moments,
- 26:04right? You and your buddies doing some
- 26:06head assery in the game and you're having an absolute
- 26:09fucking blast. And again, it's the fucking
- 26:12beta, and we're having an absolute blast as if it's, you
- 26:16know, I didn't play Battlefield 4 with you guys back in the
- 26:19prime, but like, if we would have anybody here.
- 26:22Yeah. Oh, God, this is this is what it
- 26:24felt like when I played Battlefield 4 in its prime when
- 26:26I was in high school. It's just.
- 26:28Well, that's a good point. It's so good.
- 26:31It's a good point that you bring up because I recently was
- 26:36talking with two people that I did play these games with when I
- 26:39was in high school, Will and Eric, and we played three, we
- 26:44played four, we played a lot of four together.
- 26:46That was our primary thing that we played through all of its
- 26:48life cycle. And and like we were talking
- 26:50about it. We were kind of thinking about
- 26:51it when we were playing last weekend and Will pointed out we
- 26:56I like I was there from the beginning to the end on PC.
- 27:00So I was a part, I told Nick I was a part of the community test
- 27:03environment. I was part of helping build the
- 27:06the Night OPS maps and the, what was it like the community
- 27:10operation where they were like, hey, we're going to bring back a
- 27:12map from one of the older Battlefield games, which one do
- 27:15you want it to be? And like, I got to play the Gray
- 27:18box of that and all that sort of stuff.
- 27:19So when we played six together, the thing we came away with was
- 27:24kind of just how you said, which was this game feels like
- 27:27Battlefield when you play it with your buddies, and that's
- 27:30what matters. It's the fact that, yeah, you
- 27:31can do Head Astree. However, if I have any platform
- 27:34that is loud enough to stand on and speak, I will say
- 27:37Battlefield Studios, you got to let me launch the Jeeps with C4.
- 27:41There you go, It's got to come. Back.
- 27:43It's got to come back. I love the new system of being
- 27:46able to make a crater, but that thing needs to go to the moon
- 27:48too. Like they both.
- 27:50I did it the other day with Will and Eric in four, and we didn't
- 27:52go anywhere. We went just straight up.
- 27:54But as soon as we launched and we went to the sky, everybody
- 27:56just sort of cackling because it's just hilarious to do.
- 28:00Yeah, like, and it, it's, it's funny you mentioned like you
- 28:03want the jeeps and all that to go to the moon bodies in the
- 28:06betas go to the fucking. It's hilarious.
- 28:09I'll be flying the helicopter, I'll get shot down and my body
- 28:13will go flying out the front windshield like to the other
- 28:15side of the map like that. It's hilarious.
- 28:18I shotgunned like so Speaking of head assery moments, I want to I
- 28:22want to start with two. I'll start with one personal one
- 28:26for me, and then I want to talk about all three of our combined
- 28:30head astry moment here, because this was the best time I had in
- 28:34this beta. So the biggest one that I can
- 28:36remember so far with like myself was what's the what map is it?
- 28:42Where is there's a street in the center and then two sets of
- 28:45buildings on each side for six. Cairo the more.
- 28:50Orange one. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:52Oh yeah. Yeah, street with the buses over
- 28:54there, we're being fired at. Noah's fucking yelling at me.
- 28:57Stay back. I'm like, yeah, I got this, I
- 28:58got this. I had noob tube down the fucking
- 29:02piece of like huge pieces of the building fall on these people.
- 29:05I'm like, oh, that's sick. So I run over there and I see
- 29:07them all just like like what the like just like in shock.
- 29:11I go huh, three key shotgun and I start yelling Black Ops Black
- 29:16Ops black and I started. Just killing.
- 29:18All. All fucking five of them.
- 29:21And like the last guy I shoot, his body hits like the top of
- 29:26the fucking ceiling and just flies out the building.
- 29:28And I went, Oh yeah. That's insane.
- 29:31But Elliot, Elliot and Evan, I'm going to give the floor to
- 29:35Elliot. Yeah, because our tank moment.
- 29:40Oh that that the double tank double pits the chesty.
- 29:43Tank on. Cairo.
- 29:45That was great. Oh my God, dude.
- 29:48So, so people have this habit of not going down with the ship,
- 29:53right? And whether it's in helicopters,
- 29:55whether it's in tanks, right, planes, whatever, you start to
- 29:58get you, you get to the point where you're going to die and
- 30:01you bail out. So you save the ticket, right?
- 30:03So I was, I don't think I had a tank yet.
- 30:07I think it was just Nick and Jules.
- 30:10No, they didn't have a tank. Hold on, hold on, hold on.
- 30:12Not yet. They didn't have a tank yet.
- 30:14So they're they're like launching everything that they
- 30:17have at this at this enemy Abrams right.
- 30:20And what does what does the driver do?
- 30:21He gets out to help repair it right or run away.
- 30:25Whatever Nick jumps in the tank steals it right.
- 30:27Jules is is on top of it heals that bad Johnny up goes off
- 30:31right? I'm like, dude, this is hell
- 30:34yeah. So then I took one of our tanks
- 30:37or our not. Not the tank, the the I.
- 30:41VIFB Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yep, the IFE.
- 30:45So I then had our IFE while Nick is in an enemy Abrams, and then
- 30:50we had the rando on our team following us along in our
- 30:55Abrams. So we had three tanks and we
- 30:58were just driving around in circles.
- 31:00Just take a lap, take a lap. Just racking up the.
- 31:02Screaming at one of. The I'm dude there there was
- 31:05another there's another IFE in front of me and I started
- 31:08shooting at it and because I was I was lead right.
- 31:11And I remember I started panicking.
- 31:12I'm like, guys, I need help, I need help.
- 31:14He's fucking me up outcomes Evan big Dick in it to the Max and
- 31:19he's running up to this fucking thing with the God damn repair
- 31:21tool, just just cooking this damn tank in front of me and
- 31:26Nick's like Nick's like Ellie, I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm
- 31:28coming like, hey, don't worry, man.
- 31:29Evan just big dicked and just melted this.
- 31:31Fucking tank. With a repair tool.
- 31:34I just the the best part about that was it felt like an actual
- 31:38ambush because it hit one of the tanks in front of us when it
- 31:42came out because it it knocked somebody like loose or like I
- 31:45think it's Nick and it sort of like knocked him off to his side
- 31:47and Nick's like. Oh my God, there's like an IMB.
- 31:50Right. Like he's like reacting to it in
- 31:52real time And I jumped out of the IFEI, think Elliot was in
- 31:56and I jump out, switched to the RPG, immediately shoot it and
- 31:58then switched to the repair tool and just hold it on there until
- 32:01it explodes. Well, the crazy moment of that
- 32:04too was because at one point in time, all Elliot and I are just
- 32:09serpentining because that other be fucked off and we're just
- 32:11screaming. Do it on a lap.
- 32:13So we're just laughing. We're just killing everybody.
- 32:15So we get rocketed. I see Julian and Evan just go
- 32:20and start repairing us while we're driving.
- 32:22I'm like it. Was what is it was insane dude
- 32:25that insane the amount of the amount of like team play now
- 32:28granted right? It's also because a lot of
- 32:30people want to complete the challenges and it's funny
- 32:33because you know, the challenges are like, you know, spot for the
- 32:36Recon and then but the biggest one is the healing for
- 32:39engineers. And the amount of heels that I
- 32:42have gotten in this beta when I am in a tank is astronomical.
- 32:46And I pray that it continues because it's so much fun having
- 32:51you have a whole flock of people.
- 32:53You have like 5 or 6 people who are engineers just following
- 32:56you. The second you get hit by an RPG
- 32:58or an enemy tank, you don't even notice because your health is
- 33:01already back full. You're like, this is so
- 33:04beautiful. It's amazing.
- 33:06It's great on being on the other end of that when you, when I'm
- 33:08shooting at the enemy team and I hit like an IFB with like it's
- 33:11one rocket, OK, he's half second rocket.
- 33:14OK. He's a quarter third rocket.
- 33:16He's half again. What happened?
- 33:19And then you're and then you're on your last two rockets and
- 33:21he's full of health and you're like, there's nothing.
- 33:23I don't know what to do. Like like yeah, I give up.
- 33:27I was I was so confused on whatever peak liberation peak,
- 33:34liberation peak. Thank you.
- 33:35What am I doing when I play liberation peak right?
- 33:38I'm just flying the Apache, right?
- 33:39I work on Apaches. I'm going to fly the day of
- 33:41Apache. OK, so I'm doing all my passes
- 33:45and I think I had it was Logan was my gutter and it was it was
- 33:50the same scenario where I would I would, you know, go over a
- 33:53point. Everyone would say there's a
- 33:54tank on whatever point. All right, I'm going to go fuck
- 33:55it up. Go do a little pass on it, turn
- 33:58back around, Go do another pass on a turn around.
- 33:59Go do another pass on a turn around.
- 34:01I'm still doing a pass, a fourth pass on the same damn damn tank.
- 34:06And like every single time I'm getting multiple and multiple
- 34:09like just infantry killers. And that's what it is.
- 34:12I'm just killing the flocks of engineers following these
- 34:15vehicles. I'm like, hey, I'm just.
- 34:17Farming points. Right now, whatever.
- 34:19But. It's like, I swear to God that's
- 34:20the same tank I've been shooting.
- 34:22They're just. Swarming it like a bee.
- 34:26Yeah, it's amazing. I love it.
- 34:28To touch on that too, I think a thing that I've taken away from
- 34:31this when it comes to the vehicles, at least, especially
- 34:33the Apache as the gunner and The Jets as well, because those are
- 34:37probably the, because I spent the most time in as like a
- 34:39driver or as a gunner is how much utility you have.
- 34:46Like in four, it's like you had like if you were flying it, you
- 34:50had rockets and then heat seeking and you could change a
- 34:52couple of things and you had like a pretty small selection.
- 34:56And we don't have a selection at all right now.
- 34:58But like I, I love that. It feels like, like I love that
- 35:01the jet has like a 30mm gun, heat seeking missiles and bombs
- 35:07to drop. Like I can do, I can do
- 35:10everything. I can help out the ground
- 35:11troops, I can help out the armor, and then I can also hold
- 35:15my own whether it's against another jet or a chopper.
- 35:18And then like the same thing. Like I haven't flown too much of
- 35:20the Apache. I've been the gunner most the
- 35:22time. But like when I was fine with
- 35:23you, I had the gun itself, which was very powerful.
- 35:26And then I also had the Rockets to lock on to like tanks and I
- 35:31was like, Oh my God, I have actual kit.
- 35:33Like I can, I can take down Apaches, I can take down jets
- 35:36with the gun, I can take down enemy like infantry.
- 35:38And then I have these rockets too for any ground like a, a or
- 35:41whatever like. Yeah, I felt very stuck in this.
- 35:44Like, yeah, you're not stuck in this like like having to
- 35:48constantly change your load out of the vehicle for like, OK, I'm
- 35:52going to spawn in right, But I'm, I'm destined for air
- 35:55targets right now. Well, you spawn in, you start
- 35:57flying around and everyone's on the ground.
- 35:59You're like, shit, I don't have the right loadout for this.
- 36:01I agree. That is that is huge in this
- 36:05current state of the beta. And I'm, I'm really excited to
- 36:07see like once you can on what, once all these things are
- 36:10unlockables to see like truly how you can deck out the Apache
- 36:14or jet or whatever the Blackhawk.
- 36:16There's going to be a Blackhawk as the the support helicopter.
- 36:20I cannot wait to fly that. That's going to be I can't I
- 36:23can't wait to fly to to be in that.
- 36:25And I also think that's an important part of it too, is one
- 36:29thing that I think makes Battlefield stand out as well is
- 36:33so I've already we've already touched on like the classes and.
- 36:36Wait, real quick, real quick. I just I just want to say it's
- 36:39water, not milk. It's not I'm not just drinking a
- 36:41gallon of milk. OK.
- 36:42And that's can you. I just OK, I'm glad that it was
- 36:45cleared. Out.
- 36:45Could you imagine? If it was.
- 36:47Drinking a gallon of milk, I'd be like, dude, that's insane
- 36:49behavior. That would be hilarious.
- 36:50I don't even know what. I'd say a lot of podcast just
- 36:52pulls up a fucking Anna's room temp at this point for 40
- 36:56minutes in, so that fucking shit's just like on the verge of
- 36:59Colonel. I'm going to fucking dude.
- 37:02That was nasty. Why did I say?
- 37:03Anyway, Evan, Evan, carry on. I'm Evan.
- 37:05Carry on. Die because I saw one.
- 37:08I think that's a foundational part of this is like it feels
- 37:14good in. Time.
- 37:15What did you just do? Did you drop?
- 37:18Crack. Don't worry about it.
- 37:19I no, I dropped something. Oh, did you hear that?
- 37:21Did the Mike pick that up? Oh.
- 37:22I guess so. Did you crack your jaw?
- 37:25Me. Yeah, or you dropped something.
- 37:28I dropped something. Oh, I thought, I thought he
- 37:31opened his mouth. OK, fine.
- 37:32I don't care. Keep going.
- 37:33Evan, I'm so sorry. You're good.
- 37:34I'm glad that that was also cleared up.
- 37:39I I, I think, like I said, it's important about like the fact
- 37:42that you felt useful in in all the vehicles.
- 37:44And I also feel very useful on the ground when I'm playing my
- 37:47class and I, I'm just just sorry, take off this this open
- 37:54class stuff, just make people play the four classes and call
- 37:56it a day. I think people would actually
- 37:58really, I think the game is, I think the game is far more
- 38:00battlefield in that regard because that's obviously what
- 38:02the old ones were. But that's the core of it is
- 38:07that I am reliant on Elliot and Elliot's reliant on Nick and you
- 38:11know, Nick is reliant on Jules or Luke or whoever our 4th is.
- 38:16Like you, are you reliant? Like if Elliot's the engineer
- 38:20and he has rockets and he runs out, he needs me to give him an
- 38:22ammo pack so you can have more rockets in.
- 38:24Why do I need to do that? Because if I don't do that, the
- 38:27tanks kill us. And I can't have a job in these.
- 38:31Games everybody has a job to do and I feel that when when it's
- 38:33open, I like. Rush is open this week for this
- 38:35beta and I've heard a lot of complaints on one.
- 38:38Rush is also just apparently a shit show because it's not
- 38:41balanced and it's not made correctly.
- 38:43Like it's only 12V12 which inherently I don't really have a
- 38:45problem with because the maps are kind of small anyway.
- 38:47But like it's other things too. Like the defenders can shoot
- 38:51into the attacking spawn. Things like that are just not
- 38:54you. Know.
- 38:54Yikes. Yeah, just things like that are
- 38:56not balanced very well and I think those are all fixable,
- 38:58but. Yeah.
- 39:01I I think that that's also a foundational part of it is you
- 39:04have to, this is part of it being hard, right, is you don't
- 39:08get to just play what you want and get all the things you want
- 39:11with it. You have to play, you know, play
- 39:13what you want to play, but you're going to have to use the
- 39:15things available to that role. You don't just.
- 39:17Have to play the team game. You have to play the team game
- 39:19and that is that's what makes it difficult is it's very easy to
- 39:22play COD and just care about yourself.
- 39:24It's a lot harder to play with a with a team, especially a squad
- 39:27of three randos or 4 randos and go.
- 39:29What can I do to contribute because I can't win the game.
- 39:32Like you said, I can't win the game no matter I can get 100
- 39:35kills. I can get 200 kills.
- 39:36Doesn't make a difference. Doesn't matter unless I'm unless
- 39:39I'm doing something that actually helps the ticket queue
- 39:41or the ticket different queue. Oh no.
- 39:43No. Like, but if like that's what I
- 39:47mean, like that's the the important part of it is that you
- 39:49have to it's a team game and people should be forced to play
- 39:53the team game. I think that as soon as you make
- 39:55it more of an individual thing is when it stops being a
- 39:57Battlefield title. So what I agree with that, I
- 40:00think we, I think for casual players, the, the, the dad who
- 40:05is getting off work at fucking 6, the dude who's working a
- 40:09tough job, the, the, the, the, the mom or whoever who, who just
- 40:14wants to get on late at night and play a Battlefield game.
- 40:18There should be the option for a like for a like mode.
- 40:24Like a mode like a casual. Yeah, but in its own category.
- 40:31Give us that still too, right? Give me who I want to play.
- 40:34A locked system, deathmatch, domination, all that with the
- 40:39locked weaponry. But people I think should have
- 40:43the option to play a casual battlefield because I want the
- 40:48hardcore experience. I don't want to play casual.
- 40:51That doesn't mean other people shouldn't have the access there.
- 40:55Does that make sense? Like.
- 40:56I get what you're saying, but I think that's also an important
- 40:58part of it too, is that I don't think having a class system
- 41:01would be considered hardcore. I think that that's just core.
- 41:04That's the normal state of the game.
- 41:06And. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 41:09I think team deathmatch in deathmatch in Squad deathmatch
- 41:12in King of the Hill and all the smaller game modes should
- 41:14absolutely be able to be played. However, people, I mean, I don't
- 41:19care if it's open or closed because inherently in those
- 41:22types of game modes your class matters less.
- 41:25Because if you're playing team deathmatch on a smaller map,
- 41:27you're not you. There's no reason Engineer
- 41:29doesn't really. Selfish place.
- 41:31Like it, it doesn't matter because you, I mean, yeah, you
- 41:33can use those rockets to kill people.
- 41:35But like, that's, you know, that's the extent of what you're
- 41:38doing. You know, you're not healing.
- 41:41It's good that look in this face.
- 41:43Like, I knew I, I, I knew you're going to bring up the, the using
- 41:46rocket launchers and team deathmatch and domination.
- 41:49It's so much fun because, because.
- 41:50It is fun. The level destruction.
- 41:54Yes, Oh yeah, Oh yeah, the the destruction on the game is
- 41:57really good. I like this this sort of
- 41:59destruction style that they're they've got going where it's not
- 42:02like Revolution where it's this one big thing that changes the
- 42:05map, but it is this sort of like just chaotic.
- 42:09It's just. Like, Oh yeah.
- 42:11It's. Battlefield it's you get, you
- 42:13get overstimulated, you don't know what the hell is going on,
- 42:15and next thing you know, the building's falling on top.
- 42:17You're like. I've got to say, being in a
- 42:19building that is crumbling down because somebody shot a jet out
- 42:23of the sky and it hit your building while you're in it and
- 42:26then things are just starting to go down.
- 42:27You're like, oh, fuck, am I living?
- 42:29And then you just, you're just trying to, you know, it's sweet.
- 42:32It's that's Battlefield. Jumping out of a destroyed
- 42:35window and then like combat rolling when you land because
- 42:38and like turning around to watch the rest of the building fall
- 42:41around you and like you're OK. Like that, that was something
- 42:45that was something I was a little scared of.
- 42:47Like when they were talking about it, you saw like early
- 42:49development videos of it and or not fit.
- 42:54Yeah, videos, whatever. It gives a shit gameplay of it.
- 42:56There we go. That's what I was looking for,
- 42:57yeah. And like that initially that
- 42:59made me a little scared, a little call back to we're
- 43:02talking about the movement system and Call of Duty versus
- 43:04Battlefield, right, Right. That made me a little scared
- 43:08initially because I was like, Oh my God, are they going to have
- 43:10like that rapid twitch shooter kind of movement?
- 43:13But it looks great. Like, I think it was like day
- 43:17one, Evan, Noah and I were playing and we were just
- 43:21demonstrating that. Just jumping off the building
- 43:23and rolling in like as. You guys found a really big
- 43:25window? Yeah, yeah.
- 43:27Yeah. And, and yeah, And we just, and
- 43:30we just kept doing that and like watching somebody do it, it
- 43:32looked good. And again, it's, it's not, I
- 43:35mean, if you jump from a tall height, you're naturally going
- 43:38to roll to, you know, not hurt your legs, you know what I mean?
- 43:41So it's not one of those, it's it's realistic movement.
- 43:46And it, well, and it gives you a choice because if I wanted to, I
- 43:49could jump from that height and I could land on my knees and I
- 43:52would take damage as is appropriate, but I'd be able to
- 43:56shoot someone right away. Whereas when I roll, I don't.
- 43:59And so it it is a, it's like, that's kind of what it is,
- 44:02right? It's it's giving the player the
- 44:03choice, but also making those choices make sense, you know,
- 44:07like it's a different thing when it's like, yeah, well, you can
- 44:10jump out of this, you know, this window.
- 44:12And just before you hit the ground, if you hit space, you'll
- 44:14use these little like jet boots, you know, or whatever that like
- 44:17will stop you from taking damage.
- 44:18That's not the same thing as a combat role.
- 44:21And they might function and do the same thing, but one feels
- 44:24inherently better than the other and also fits the feet.
- 44:28And agreed, I think that I think Battlefield also has a really
- 44:32good theme going this time around because it's always
- 44:34experimented with different eras.
- 44:35It's you know, it's gone to the future, it's gone to the past
- 44:39and it's gone, you know, to places in between.
- 44:41And I like that this is it feels just like 3 and 4 in terms of
- 44:47its modern aesthetic, but it's not like it's not kind of absurd
- 44:54in the way that I think the newer Modern Warfare 2 and three
- 44:57kind of got. Not even those like I wouldn't
- 45:00say they got crazy, but there was sort of like this over
- 45:03stimulation to me whenever I was playing them, especially two and
- 45:06three, where there was like so many different attachments
- 45:09because they and that was both a choice.
- 45:11I think of they had so many attachments, but they also did
- 45:14this thing where you could I could play through the M4A1
- 45:18platform and unlock everything there and then I could use those
- 45:21attachments for an AK or, you know, this other platform like
- 45:26this scope I could use, but I can only get that scope if I use
- 45:29the M4. And I like that at least in this
- 45:31beta battlefield has this just normal, very normal system of
- 45:35like either unlocks for each gun and you unlock them and that's
- 45:39it. And I think that that is a
- 45:42really nice thing. I also like the gunsmith system
- 45:45this time around. The points is actually a pretty
- 45:47decent thing because it kind of doesn't like it lets you
- 45:49customize it to your ability. But you're agreed, like if you
- 45:53check out the sniper rifle, you can only do like, you know, I
- 45:57think I don't even think you can do like the straight pole bolt
- 46:00and a suppressor because they take up too many points.
- 46:03So it's like ask you know what, play Styler.
- 46:06Well, yeah, what place are you going for?
- 46:08Do you want to be quick with the bolt and not have to like on
- 46:10scope? Or do you want to have the the
- 46:13sound profile and and like your flash suppressed so that way
- 46:16you're not spotted, you know, And like, that's exactly what,
- 46:20again, just like the combat role, it's choice, you know,
- 46:23you, you have to pick. You can't get both.
- 46:27And I, I like that that seems to sort of be the philosophy behind
- 46:31some of this stuff. I don't really have a lot of
- 46:34criticism of it other than I think some of the guns need to
- 46:36maybe just be toned down in their rate of fire, I think.
- 46:38The fucking. Glint.
- 46:39I don't think the M4A1 should fire at like 900 rounds a
- 46:42minute. I think that like that.
- 46:44No, it should like it just kind of blows my mind when I fire it
- 46:47every time and I'm like, this feels like I'm firing like AP90
- 46:50or something like, yeah, it's just real.
- 46:53And I went back and I looked because I was just curious and
- 46:56like Battlefield Fours M4 had a rate of fire of like, I think
- 47:01it's 800 flat. And then the M4A1 in Battlefield
- 47:053, I think was a little less at like 7:50.
- 47:08And then I went and I just kind of did that because I was
- 47:10curious. And I went through and I looked
- 47:11at all of the assault rifles and carbines in Battlefield 4, and
- 47:13the rate of fires varied pretty significantly.
- 47:16In some cases, like there were the outliers, but all of them
- 47:19were between like 600 to 800 or 8:50.
- 47:24And then I looked in Battlefield 6 and I saw like, OK, like the
- 47:28M433 is like 850 or 860. And then like I think one of the
- 47:33other ones was 770 and another one was like around that range
- 47:36too. And I was like, they all seem to
- 47:37be pretty fast. And I'm very interested to see
- 47:41how that works in a longer range environment.
- 47:45Like agreed. That's just going to be
- 47:47interesting because inherently Battlefield's always been about
- 47:49like taking your time, right? You have to, you have to burst.
- 47:52You can't just hold it. Again, another thing that
- 47:54separates it from COD, you can't just hold the trigger down or
- 47:57whatever. Things like that too.
- 47:59Nicki Minaj and Beavis and Butthead and American Dad isn't
- 48:02in the games too, so. Well, and I like, I think
- 48:05that's. Something I'm not, I'm not pre
- 48:07ordering it until they do that. Elliot.
- 48:09Ridiculous, ridiculous, Elliot. No, I understand what.
- 48:13I understand. Behavior he wants to give him.
- 48:15No pre-orders, no pre-orders, no pre-orders.
- 48:18Yeah, we all said that, eh? Yeah, that was that was the
- 48:21thing people did pre-order, not us.
- 48:23I did not. Nobody in our discord I think
- 48:25pre-ordered it. But I know, I mean, I it was
- 48:28like Saturday. Last week did you pre-order?
- 48:32No, no I didn't. OK, thank you.
- 48:34There we go. We did it, boys.
- 48:36No, I saw like Saturday. Not pre ordering battlefield.
- 48:40It was like Saturday last weekend.
- 48:42I checked and it said Top Sellers Battlefield 6 and that
- 48:45was like, guys, what did you say?
- 48:48We've talked about it for like 5 years, no pre-orders.
- 48:51What do you do? Like Oh my God, no, I'm I'm very
- 48:56happy with this beta and I think is I mean if this is what we get
- 48:59in October and it's a little better, I'll be happy.
- 49:02Like and I played it in I played it at the end of May and they're
- 49:06like server stress tests. And that was when they had
- 49:08nothing on like some of the guns like they're they're they were
- 49:11just grey they and they had no magazines in them.
- 49:13You just, it would reload an invisible mag and you'd keep
- 49:17firing and you just, it would work.
- 49:20So like, and that was two months ago, you know, or three months
- 49:23ago or whatever you want to call it.
- 49:24So like I, I think that it's, if they got to this point now and
- 49:29we're playing on, let's say, a build that's a couple weeks or
- 49:31months older, you know, I think we're in a pretty good spot for
- 49:36October. Like I think that's going to be
- 49:39pretty cool. Also on top of the fact too, I
- 49:40mean, we're getting a campaign again and we haven't really
- 49:42mentioned that, but I'm actually pretty excited.
- 49:44That's about sweet. Yeah, yeah, I was, I was, I was
- 49:47actually just talking one of my Co workers today about it and
- 49:50about he asked me. He goes, it's going to have a
- 49:53campaign, right. I was like, yeah, you know, I'm,
- 49:55I'm, I'm really curious to see how they do it because I love
- 49:59the war stories and Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 5.
- 50:03Those are pretty good. And you know, some of those were
- 50:06loosely based off real things that happened during the wars,
- 50:09right? So I'm curious.
- 50:11If they're going to. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:13So I'm curious if they're going to attempt to obviously
- 50:16manufacture something like that for the campaign or if they're
- 50:20going to use some real world stuff from like, you know, the
- 50:22past 10 years of. 15 years. Or if they're going to go back
- 50:26to the Battlefield 4, Battlefield 3 and older, kind of
- 50:32just like a normal kind of campaign that you just play
- 50:34through, you know, a A to A-Z, you know, just play through it
- 50:39top to bottom. It'll be I feel it'll be
- 50:41interesting to see. I feel like it's going to go
- 50:44back to that style of three and four where it's just a straight
- 50:47campaign, like a linear sort of thing and maybe gives the player
- 50:49some, some, some agency. And I think that's always a
- 50:53tough line to walk for those types of games, right?
- 50:55Cuz cuz COD throughout the past couple years and its campaigns
- 50:58have has really like, like, I mean, the last one, Modern
- 51:01Warfare 3 had several missions where it was like, play it your
- 51:03way. It's like, here's the objective,
- 51:07play it how you want. And I'm curious if that's what
- 51:09Battlefield is going to do and they're going to sort of like
- 51:12copy that or if it's going to be more linear and focused.
- 51:17And also like other things like I don't, I wouldn't expect to
- 51:19get like a skill tree or anything like that or I wouldn't
- 51:21expect to have like some sort of abilities or anything.
- 51:26I would expect it to be kind of like a 2019 sort of thing.
- 51:30Apparently that's also. I mean, it's funny because I'm
- 51:32actually on. The guy who is ready to go.
- 51:37Battlefield Studios now, yeah. The guy who's running
- 51:39Battlefield Studios now was originally, yeah, Vince
- 51:43Zampella, He was originally a part of Call of Duty 24 and
- 51:48Modern Warfare 2. I feel like if he had any hand
- 51:55in helping sort of direct it is that we'll sort of get those
- 51:59and, and I hope, and I hope for that because those campaigns are
- 52:02really good. So that's kind of the thing,
- 52:04right, Is it's, I'm fine with that style of campaign.
- 52:07It's just that the, you know, it's all at that point.
- 52:11It's just how's the quality of everything The.
- 52:14Blockbuster at that point too. Right, right.
- 52:16And that's what it's supposed to be.
- 52:17It shouldn't be something that's entirely believable in every
- 52:19sense. You know, you got to suspend
- 52:20belief. Just need.
- 52:21It some way to be grand. Right.
- 52:23It needs to be epic on in its scale, right.
- 52:25But like at that point it's all about how are the like, are the
- 52:28characters interesting? Are they are they relatable in
- 52:30some way? You know, things like that.
- 52:32And I think they'll do that. By and large, I think that I
- 52:35mean Battlefield 3 and four are still campaigns.
- 52:36I remember pretty distinctly, especially 4.
- 52:40The beginning of four is incredibly intense because you
- 52:43think it's just this normal mission and then all of a sudden
- 52:46your squad leader is giving you a gun and saying shoot the
- 52:48window out and let me drown. And it's like, whoa, like that.
- 52:53And I I mean, I was bled like 1314 when that game came out.
- 52:58That was insane to play as your first mission you.
- 53:02Don't like and like and like. Honestly, I would be OK if it
- 53:05were more linear because like you, like you mentioned about
- 53:07the previous like Call of Duty ones, right?
- 53:09It all kind of goes back into that like team mentality, right?
- 53:12If they give you a mission, they're like, yeah, do it
- 53:14however you want, right? That kind of falls back into the
- 53:17the multiplayer role of Call of Duty, where it's just kind of,
- 53:21yeah, it's it's a fucking army of one, right Versus.
- 53:23I'm the main character. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 53:25It's my, you know, so like if it were linear, I'd be OK with
- 53:29that. You know, it's going to be
- 53:31pretty if there there's no way it's not pretty, right?
- 53:34And it's going to be and, and and, you know, there'll probably
- 53:36be some things you can stray and kind of approach certain parts
- 53:40of the missions how you would like.
- 53:43I would imagine so, right? But I'd be fine.
- 53:46I hope it's not just kind of like, I hope it's not just yeah,
- 53:49here's your objective, Go have fun.
- 53:51Here's a helicopter and a couple rockets, you know, go do what
- 53:53you're going to do. You know I'd.
- 53:54Be I'd be so happy if it was like dude, go classic, like
- 53:58single player campaign from a shooter and like protagonist
- 54:03doesn't talk, doesn't say shit ever.
- 54:06All we need and and it's just like.
- 54:08And add some and add some humor to it, like in one of the old
- 54:12Bad Company campaigns. Actually funny.
- 54:16Yeah, both of them. It's hilarious.
- 54:18Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:18And there's like the whole bit where it's like, all right,
- 54:20guys, we're going quiet and they're like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:21And then you start Hawking grenades and like firing their
- 54:24machine guns as their. Watch, those were the
- 54:25commercials back in the day, Yeah.
- 54:28They had the little happy. The little bobblehead.
- 54:31Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bobblehead, Yeah.
- 54:33Give me something like that, you know?
- 54:37It had it had I. Can't wait to see what this is
- 54:39going to be, and I don't want to speculate too much until we see
- 54:42a trailer. It's more of a trailer for the
- 54:45single player. Yeah.
- 54:47How I want to end this episode is asking both of you briefly
- 54:52how you're feeling about the campaign.
- 54:55Obviously people can tell we're stoked, but how are you actually
- 54:58feeling about the campaign and and in the next 5 minutes going
- 55:03back to play more either one? Of you wait, the camp, the
- 55:06campaign, what? Do you like the multi, the beta?
- 55:08The fucking. Beta.
- 55:09You meant the beta beta. OK.
- 55:13I tried the radio voice and it didn't fucking work to my
- 55:15benefit. I got put in the spot last time.
- 55:18Your turn, Evan. Go.
- 55:19Oh, it's my turn. OK, how I'm feeling about the
- 55:21beta right now. I am dog.
- 55:24First word that came to mind as soon as I loaded it up was I was
- 55:27impressed. I was impressed by the sheer
- 55:31performance that I was getting, that I it was running so great
- 55:34and that it was so pretty and that it felt like a Battlefield
- 55:37game. Those are like the three big
- 55:39things right off the RIP. The sound was there.
- 55:42Like sound is incredibly important in a Battlefield game
- 55:45and War Tapes is back and better than ever.
- 55:47And War Tapes Val makes it so you have a perfect excuse to say
- 55:51you can't hear anybody when you're playing with them because
- 55:54it's so freaking loud. But I'm excited, I'm happy.
- 55:59I I think that this is a much better spot than 2042 ever could
- 56:03have been in leading up to it. I think they've been very
- 56:07transparent with this one because this is, I mean,
- 56:09essentially 8 days where people have gotten to play this game
- 56:13and it's entire, not in its entirety, but four maps, a
- 56:16handful of guns, and, you know, things like that.
- 56:19I mean, you get a pretty good taste of what you're getting in
- 56:21a couple of months from now. And I think that if you're, if
- 56:24we're getting this, I mean, today we were happy paying for
- 56:27it. You know, we were like, hey,
- 56:28like, I'll play it right now if this is what you got.
- 56:31And oh, yeah. And I, I mean, at this point,
- 56:35I'm inclined to say, let these guys cook for 2 1/2 more months
- 56:38and see what we get because if we can get something even
- 56:40better, that is really. And I think that's another thing
- 56:43to just to wrap up my thoughts on this, one of my favorite
- 56:46things about this beta has been how it really feels like DICE
- 56:50and Battlefield Studios all together because they're no
- 56:52longer called DICE. I keep saying that it makes me
- 56:54sad. They're it feels like they're
- 56:58actually listening to the community.
- 57:00And that has been something that I personally have not felt since
- 57:044:00 because 4 came out and it was dog shit on the PCs and they
- 57:09made the community test environment to rectify that.
- 57:11And it was a direct outreach to the community going help us make
- 57:16it. And the fact that they did
- 57:17Battlefield Labs gives me confidence, gives me hope.
- 57:20And the fact that this game is so well because of the work that
- 57:23those players and better the Battlefield bets have done.
- 57:28I think that that makes this game so much better for
- 57:30everybody who wants to play it in October.
- 57:32And so like the beta has been, I think, a real show of force here
- 57:35of like, hey, we're we're here and we mean business.
- 57:36We're not here to fuck around and make something stupid.
- 57:40No, I'm very excited. Yeah, plain and plain and simple
- 57:43for me, I can't think of the last game that I have been, so I
- 57:50don't want to say I'm I'm I'm really excited for it.
- 57:52I'm fucking so excited for this damn game right, because like
- 57:57that from Monday, Tuesday and yesterday, I didn't know what I
- 58:01was doing with my life right. I, I was going through fucking
- 58:04withdrawals from the beta of this game, right.
- 58:07And it's just, I'm again, it feels it, it, it feels like
- 58:15battlefield and I'm yeah, like, you know, I'm, I'm excited to
- 58:18see, you know, is this the current build of the game or is
- 58:22this a month and a half old build of the game that we're
- 58:25currently playing right now? So is it going to get so much
- 58:29better from now until launch or is it going to be a little bit
- 58:32better? You know, I'm, I'm, I'm excited
- 58:35to see, maybe EA has turned a new leaf and, you know, maybe
- 58:42they won't be shit on anymore. Maybe.
- 58:46I would love to agree with that's.
- 58:47A big glass of milk. I know I'd look, I know, I know
- 58:51it's water. I know it is but like but but
- 58:52that's how I oh, it's it's a jug.
- 58:55Take the jug of water. A tall order, a tall glass.
- 58:59You know what a? Tall, a tall order of water.
- 59:01Yeah. Look, I'm, look, I'm, I'm
- 59:03excited. I'm, I'm, I'm excited.
- 59:05In fact, in fact, I'm excited to end this podcast so I can go
- 59:09back to playing it, but we will here we are.
- 59:11Sorry. No, Fantastic.
- 59:13We're at this right now. I'll keep it simple.
- 59:16I'm going to keep it nice and simple.
- 59:18I cannot believe you decided to record this when we're wasting
- 59:22time. We could be playing it, but go
- 59:24off Queen. You know, sweetheart, we're
- 59:26going to record, We're going to go play right now.
- 59:27We're. Going to record Battlefield.
- 59:29Does. Battlefield does what Call of
- 59:31Duty don't, and it's remains to be seen even more so in this
- 59:37beta. Call of Duty cannot keep pace
- 59:39with the things that Battlefield is doing and will continue to
- 59:42do. This beta has been a ton of
- 59:46things for me, right? Like just awesome moments, great
- 59:49times with my friends, great times playing a shooter in FPS
- 59:53with my friends again in big team battles.
- 59:56It feels epic. It is creating so many awesome
- 59:59moments all over again that I had when I was fucking 15 and
- 1:00:03even a little younger than that. This this.
- 1:00:07Battlefield 6 Beta, I guess to sum it up again, it we're we're
- 1:00:13back, it just feels like we're so fucking back.
- 1:00:16And again, Battlefield does what Call of Duty fucking don't.
- 1:00:20That's where I'm going to leave that at.
- 1:00:22Put it on a T-shirt. Oh, dude, that's the title of
- 1:00:25the episode. I have to, but yeah, I'll put
- 1:00:26that on a T-shirt. Oh yeah, thank you Evan and
- 1:00:30Elliot for hopping on the show. Let's go play fucking
- 1:00:33battlefield, everybody. Thank you for tuning in.
