- 0:00New Year's goals that stick, the inner work approach.
- 0:03Most people don't fail their New Year's goals because they're lazy.
- 0:07They fail because their goals were never designed for who they actually are.
- 0:11They were designed for who they think they should be.
- 0:15And if you've ever started January motivated only to feel frustrated,
- 0:19disconnected, or quietly disappointed a few months later, this video is for you.
- 0:25In this video, I want to show you a different approach to New Year's goals.
- 0:30One that actually sticks.
- 0:32Not because you push harder, but because it's aligned with your inner worlds.
- 0:36We talk about why discipline breaks down for high-performing people.
- 0:41Why goals repeat themselves year after year.
- 0:44And how to design goals that support your energy, your nervous system, and the life you're here to live.
- 0:50I spent the last 18 years guiding people through this work inside of our programs like Awaken, the Inspire Yoga Teach Training program, the Inner Circle program.
- 1:02And people I work with are capable, intelligent, and often successful on the outside.
- 1:07But they reach this moment when they realize, if I keep setting goals the same way, I'll keep getting the same year.
- 1:17Everything I'm sharing here comes directly from that lived work.
- 1:21Now, let's be honest.
- 1:22You don't lack ambition.
- 1:24You don't lack intelligence.
- 1:25You probably don't lack discipline either.
- 1:28What you might recognize is this.
- 1:30You set goals based on what looks impressive, what you think you should want, and what might
- 1:37finally make you feel fulfilled.
- 1:39And then somewhere along the way, resistance shows up, motivation drops, and you achieve
- 1:46still feel empty. So you turn on yourself. But the problem isn't you. The problem is that goals were
- 1:53designed for the mind alone. And while the body and emotional system were never consulted. As Carl
- 2:00Jung said, until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
- 2:07Unconscious patterns don't disappear in January. They quietly shape your year unless you meet them.
- 2:13Why the same year keeps repeating.
- 2:15Here's something most people miss.
- 2:16Many New Year's goals are built on avoidance.
- 2:20Avoiding exhaustion, dissatisfaction, emotional truth,
- 2:25the sense that something in life isn't aligned.
- 2:27So the goal becomes next year I'll finally be better.
- 2:31But when the foundation hasn't changed,
- 2:33discipline collapses because you're pushing against yourself.
- 2:38This is why discipline only works when it's built on alignment.
- 2:43put it. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act but a habit. Habits stick
- 2:52when they're supported by your inner state, not when they're forced. Goals that stick aren't just
- 2:58about the next 12 months. They're about designing an aligned life. This is exactly what we do in
- 3:04Awaken when we design your Awaken's life. Where are you now? Where are you actually going?
- 3:10and what's the honest path between where you are now and where you're going.
- 3:15This is where the inner work approach comes in.
- 3:17Stage one, feel.
- 3:19Awareness before action.
- 3:20Before you set a single goal, ask,
- 3:23how do I genuinely feel at the end of this year?
- 3:26Where am I tired?
- 3:28Where am I fulfilled?
- 3:30Where am I overriding myself?
- 3:32As Marcus Aurelius said,
- 3:34waste no more time arguing what a good person should be.
- 3:38Be one.
- 3:40with yourself through goals and start listening. Stage two, heal. Release before building. Most
- 3:49people try to build a future while dragging unresolved emotional weight behind them. Healing
- 3:56doesn't mean living in the dark. It means having the courage to meet what's there so it no longer
- 4:01runs your life from the background. As Carl Jung also said, one does not become enlightened by
- 4:08imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. And once that work is done,
- 4:14you do move towards the lighter frequencies of clarity, ease, and joy. Stage three manifests,
- 4:22gold from alignment. From this place, golds feel different. They're not driven by shoulds,
- 4:28they're not fueled by self-pressure, they're aligned. As the Buddha said, what you think you
- 4:34become, what you feel you attract, what you imagine you create. When thoughts, feelings and actions are
- 4:42aligned, discipline becomes natural. And as Gandhi defined it so simply, happiness is when what you
- 4:50think, what you say and what you do are in harmony. That's what goals that stick feel like. Right now,
- 4:58between Christmas and New Year is the most honest moment of the year. Patterns are visible,
- 5:04noise has quietened, and your body's already speaking.
- 5:07As Seneca said, if a person knows not which port they sail,
- 5:12no wind is favorable.
- 5:14This is the moment to choose direction.
- 5:16And if you're listening and thinking,
- 5:18this makes sense, but I don't want to figure it out alone,
- 5:21that's exactly why I created the Elevate Inner World Challenge.
- 5:25It's a free seven-day journey where I guide you through
- 5:29grounding practices, emotional awareness,
- 5:34regulation, reflection, release, and healing work. You can simply relax into the structure that is
- 5:40created within the challenge for you. And it's designed for now, before you roll into January,
- 5:46carrying the same patterns again. The link is below if it feels right.
- 5:51My closing thoughts. New Year's goals that stick don't demand more from you. They meet you where
- 5:58you are and invite you forwards with integrity. They draw you to a future. That's how manifesting
- 6:05works. Or as Raina Maria Rilke wrote, the future enters into us in order to transform itself in us
- 6:14long before it happens. This is where that transformation begins.
