Latest / Hawk Talk / Recapping Week 4: Seahawks at Lions
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfak go to roll right, jumps it off
- 0:07Speaker 1: into the right class to Michael Bumpas, who bounces off
- 0:09Speaker 1: on one tackler gets inside the forty down of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: thirty five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com, Matt
- 0:15Speaker 1: pump fakes looking at the goal line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 1: into the end zone. Touchdown. Say Hawks, it's Michael Bumpus
- 0:21Speaker 1: with a diving catch in the end zone. Ten yard
- 0:24Speaker 1: touchdown reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington
- 0:28Speaker 1: State has found himself a place on this team. Now,
- 0:31Speaker 1: here's your host, Nasa Chuby. Welcome to another edition of
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hawk Talk. Yes, the Seahawks are back in the wind column,
- 0:38Speaker 1: defeating the Detroit Lines forty eight to forty five on
- 0:41Speaker 1: the road. And this was one hell of the game,
- 0:44Speaker 1: fireworks from start to finish. It's great to have a
- 0:47Speaker 1: nice victory Monday here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Everything is right in the world. And when everything is
- 0:52Speaker 1: right in the world, that means we're talking to our
- 0:54Speaker 1: guy Ray Roberts in the trenches. It's time to go
- 0:59Speaker 1: inside the trenches with former Seahawk Ray Roberts, Big Gray,
- 1:04Speaker 1: Big Ray, Big Ray. This was a battle of Ray Roberts,
- 1:07Speaker 1: two former teams. If anything, this was a battle of
- 1:09Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. So definitely a fun game to watch on Sunday.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Ray all the fireworks in the world. Not the game
- 1:16Speaker 1: we accepted or expected. The Seahawks beat the Lines forty
- 1:19Speaker 1: eight to forty five in a shootout. Seahawks had five
- 1:22Speaker 1: hundred and fifty five yards of total offense. Ray. Why
- 1:25Speaker 1: were they able to finally open things up and really
- 1:28Speaker 1: get this offense where we thought it could be? Well,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think, first of all, you know Detroit. I love
- 1:34Speaker 1: the way you said Detroit too. That's how you have
- 1:36Speaker 1: to say it's not Detroit, that Detroit. But I love
- 1:40Speaker 1: the way that when they talked last week about opening
- 1:44Speaker 1: the offense. A lot of times when people here opening
- 1:47Speaker 1: the offense, that means that we're going to take all
- 1:49Speaker 1: the deep shots. But what it really meant was, man,
- 1:52Speaker 1: we're given, you know, full rain of this playbook and
- 1:56Speaker 1: all that's in it, whether it's the using the tight ends,
- 1:59Speaker 1: the running back, you know, Audibling, that the line of scrimmage.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think you know, Gino was in complete command of
- 2:06Speaker 1: the offense to the point where on third and twenty
- 2:09Speaker 1: six or whatever it is, the audible to a run
- 2:11Speaker 1: play and it became a touchdown, and then the audible
- 2:13Speaker 1: again on another run play is another thirty six yards,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know whatever, it was touchdown. So he was really
- 2:20Speaker 1: in command of the offense. And to me, that is
- 2:23Speaker 1: a great time because now you have access to all
- 2:27Speaker 1: of those weapons, like no offense I thought was going
- 2:30Speaker 1: to be a tremendous weapon, you know, when they when
- 2:33Speaker 1: when they signed him or he came over in the trade.
- 2:36Speaker 1: But man, I didn't know that this Lee was gonna
- 2:39Speaker 1: do his thing and that uh Parkinson was going to
- 2:42Speaker 1: be able to do his thing. And I mean they
- 2:44Speaker 1: have just really been balling out at the tight end position,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know, just the three of them combined, and then
- 2:50Speaker 1: the way they've been able to get DK involved and
- 2:53Speaker 1: keep Tyler involved without having to focus on one or
- 2:56Speaker 1: the other. Last year, it felt like one game it
- 2:58Speaker 1: was it was dec his game, the next game was
- 3:01Speaker 1: Tyler's game. But now it's it's like the whole field
- 3:05Speaker 1: is Geno's playground. And so I think he's done a
- 3:09Speaker 1: really good job of being mature about it, playing within
- 3:12Speaker 1: his ability, and then just using everything that's accessible to
- 3:16Speaker 1: them from the playbook. I like what you said there
- 3:18Speaker 1: about Gino there Ray So coming into this season we
- 3:21Speaker 1: talked about and I think you talked about a lot that, like, hey,
- 3:24Speaker 1: play your game, don't try to step outside yourself, don't
- 3:26Speaker 1: try to replace the guy that came before you. Well,
- 3:28Speaker 1: right now he's not only playing good football, he's playing
- 3:31Speaker 1: some of the best at that quarterback position in the
- 3:33Speaker 1: National Football League. Are you surprised at all by his
- 3:36Speaker 1: consistency or his overall play. You talked about the playbook
- 3:39Speaker 1: being completely opened up, so used to all those weapons,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but Gino specifically, are you surprised he's playing the best
- 3:44Speaker 1: football of his career? I am, because you don't normally
- 3:47Speaker 1: see this type of transformation. And then what we have
- 3:52Speaker 1: seen of Gino in the past, like, yeah, he kind
- 3:55Speaker 1: of filled in for a rush from time to time,
- 3:58Speaker 1: and he's played in the preseason, but it always seemed
- 4:00Speaker 1: like he was kind of playing safe football, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 1: and or he would have a bad play at the
- 4:07Speaker 1: at the wrong time, like that kind of thing. But
- 4:10Speaker 1: for him to be able to have the steadiness that
- 4:13Speaker 1: he has the patience that he that he has the
- 4:17Speaker 1: maturity that he's going about it. To play, you know,
- 4:19Speaker 1: just to kind of play within the confines of his
- 4:22Speaker 1: ability is tremendous because there has to be something in
- 4:26Speaker 1: there that goes like, okay, almost, I'm like, I'm liking
- 4:29Speaker 1: this thing up, I'm about to go do to do
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, I'm about to go do whatever, you know,
- 4:33Speaker 1: And then that's when you start to kind of try
- 4:35Speaker 1: to do things you're not capable of, like trying to
- 4:37Speaker 1: scramble around or make a big throw or what have you.
- 4:40Speaker 1: But he's been able to keep all of that in
- 4:42Speaker 1: check and just and just get the ball distributed ball
- 4:46Speaker 1: to that he's not managing the game either. He's playing
- 4:48Speaker 1: the game, and I think that that's that's different than
- 4:51Speaker 1: managing the game. So he doesn't have to be you know,
- 4:54Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson or Mahomes or whatever. But he's playing football
- 4:58Speaker 1: at a very high level. Think that's awesome. Ray, What
- 5:02Speaker 1: up though? What's going on? Man chilling like a villain?
- 5:05Speaker 1: So you're talking about Gino and how he's just playing football,
- 5:08Speaker 1: which I love to see and I completely agree with you.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I also think who's playing some good football? Right now
- 5:14Speaker 1: is a Rashad Penny. Your man would off one hundred
- 5:17Speaker 1: yards and he did it with some short runs, short
- 5:20Speaker 1: runs and open it up with some big ones, some
- 5:22Speaker 1: third down runs. What you see out of him? And
- 5:24Speaker 1: is it just him or is it this offensive line
- 5:26Speaker 1: in just the way this offense is approaching the game
- 5:29Speaker 1: in totality, Well, the thing I like and is that
- 5:34Speaker 1: they have taken the offenctive line and their abilities into consideration.
- 5:40Speaker 1: So a lot of times when you hear people talking
- 5:42Speaker 1: about building their offense, especially if you're listening to ESPN
- 5:46Speaker 1: and all these big shows and everyone thinks they know everything,
- 5:48Speaker 1: all they talk about is what can the skill guys
- 5:51Speaker 1: do if you want to call them at the receivers
- 5:53Speaker 1: or running backs to quarterbacks tighten, what can they do
- 5:55Speaker 1: and how you set them up success to success and
- 5:58Speaker 1: how do you put them in the right situation. No
- 6:00Speaker 1: one talks about how do you put your offensive line
- 6:02Speaker 1: in the right situation? And I feel like this year,
- 6:06Speaker 1: especially with I think having the two rookie rookie offensive
- 6:09Speaker 1: lineman forced them to think about how do we put
- 6:13Speaker 1: these rookies in the best position to be successful, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: therefore it put the offensive line in the best position
- 6:19Speaker 1: to be success successful. So they're doing the things that
- 6:22Speaker 1: they're really good at blocking downhill, uh Dave, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: Abe Lucas is really good at like setting the edge
- 6:29Speaker 1: on edge runs. He's really good at getting up to
- 6:31Speaker 1: the next level. He's really good at finishing blocks. Charles
- 6:34Speaker 1: seems to be more of a mobile dude. You saw
- 6:36Speaker 1: him pull on one of the long touchdown runs. He's
- 6:39Speaker 1: starting to, you know, see the athleticism of uh of
- 6:44Speaker 1: Lewis the way you know he pulled on both of
- 6:46Speaker 1: those plays, had a great trap that Penny timed up
- 6:49Speaker 1: and for the one touchdown, and they came back around
- 6:51Speaker 1: the true counter where they pulled a guard in the
- 6:53Speaker 1: tackle from the backside of he was. He was a
- 6:55Speaker 1: guard that pulled around the corner. So I think that
- 6:57Speaker 1: they're taking in consideration all of the ability. He's all
- 7:00Speaker 1: the people on offense, and that's what makes the difference.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And then when you look at Penny Man like you know,
- 7:06Speaker 1: last year, I was like, Okay, it's five games. You've
- 7:08Speaker 1: been here for three or so years, you haven't played
- 7:10Speaker 1: a whole lot. I'm not getting so excited about the
- 7:12Speaker 1: five games. Even though you rushed for seve hundred yards
- 7:15Speaker 1: and all it was cool, the look cool and all
- 7:16Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Show me you can do it again,
- 7:19Speaker 1: and then show me you can do it again, and
- 7:21Speaker 1: then show me you can do it again. And that's
- 7:23Speaker 1: what he's been doing. And then once the one play
- 7:26Speaker 1: that didn't seem like that big of a deal last
- 7:29Speaker 1: yesterday was you know, like I said before, there's a
- 7:31Speaker 1: play where I don't know he picked up ten or
- 7:33Speaker 1: fifteen yards he because he just stepped out of bounds
- 7:35Speaker 1: and the defender was coming up. But he leaned into
- 7:38Speaker 1: the defender and invited the contact. He never thought I
- 7:41Speaker 1: would see that from him. And so he's learning how
- 7:43Speaker 1: to run behind his pad. He's confident that he can,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you know, get get through the hole and then take
- 7:48Speaker 1: it to the house, or if he needs to be physical,
- 7:51Speaker 1: he can do that. So now you have defenders thinking like, okay,
- 7:53Speaker 1: this was gonna run past me. Is he gonna give
- 7:55Speaker 1: me the lazy leg and like make me break my ankles?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Or is he gonna put his shoulder down and run
- 8:00Speaker 1: over me. Now he's at an advantage to kind of
- 8:02Speaker 1: do what he wants in those situations, and that has
- 8:05Speaker 1: been impressive. I love it. It's like he's in complete control, right,
- 8:08Speaker 1: He's got him guessing. You don't know what he is
- 8:11Speaker 1: going to do next. I love to see it. In honesty, Ray,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I think the success of Penny is going to result
- 8:17Speaker 1: in the success of DK Metcalf as well. I don't
- 8:19Speaker 1: think it's a coincidence that both these guys had big games.
- 8:23Speaker 1: I think it's correlated. Oh absolutely, Like, uh, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I think like, you know, you've heard me say this,
- 8:29Speaker 1: and I said it in the post game, and I
- 8:30Speaker 1: said it all last year. It was kind of cool
- 8:32Speaker 1: to say that. I thought it was. I kind of
- 8:33Speaker 1: was pat myself on the back a little bit about
- 8:35Speaker 1: marrying the run game to the past game. Yeah, and
- 8:39Speaker 1: this game yesterday was the first time where I watched
- 8:44Speaker 1: the football game and I didn't feel like I was watching, uh,
- 8:47Speaker 1: two parallel tracks. It looked like one comprehensive offense that
- 8:51Speaker 1: was running, and then Gino was at the helm of
- 8:54Speaker 1: it going like, oh okay, we got this pass call,
- 8:56Speaker 1: but man, like this defense that running they don't have.
- 8:59Speaker 1: You know, they have seven guys within a yard as
- 9:01Speaker 1: a line of scrimmage and net closest dude, it's fifteen
- 9:03Speaker 1: yards away. Man, we're gonna pin and pull and we're
- 9:05Speaker 1: at the house, we're out the gate, and so like
- 9:08Speaker 1: that type of stuff to me is when the offense
- 9:10Speaker 1: is really worked comprehensively and play action looks just like
- 9:13Speaker 1: the runs are going to play. The runs looks just
- 9:15Speaker 1: like the play action the past game and the running game.
- 9:19Speaker 1: It's all tied together. You're not having to go like, Okay,
- 9:21Speaker 1: this quarter we're focusing on getting the ball to DK
- 9:23Speaker 1: and this quarter we're focusing on running the ball. No,
- 9:26Speaker 1: we're open to playbook. We have a dude that we trust,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and we have some players that can make plays. Let's
- 9:31Speaker 1: just go play football and make it happen. And that's
- 9:33Speaker 1: what was really cool about yesterday too. Well, Ray, I'll
- 9:35Speaker 1: keep patting you on the back though, but would you say,
- 9:38Speaker 1: now this offense is engaged, right, So they put it
- 9:41Speaker 1: together for one and for one game. What's it gonna
- 9:43Speaker 1: take for them to be married and go on the honeymoon?
- 9:46Speaker 1: What's that going to happen? Well, first of all, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 1: like the dad is always the one that has to
- 9:51Speaker 1: pay for all that stuff, right, So Pete Carroll is
- 9:53Speaker 1: going to have to you know, lay the log down
- 9:56Speaker 1: and say it's okay for this marriage to happen, but no,
- 9:59Speaker 1: I I think that the engagement period was like the preseason,
- 10:04Speaker 1: and then they finally got to the point where the
- 10:07Speaker 1: dad that has to pay for everything said, okay, let's
- 10:10Speaker 1: open the playbook, let's let's give let's give this marriage
- 10:13Speaker 1: our blessing. And that's what it feels like. That feels
- 10:15Speaker 1: like that's what happened yesterday. Now, if they go back
- 10:19Speaker 1: next week and it looks like something totally different than
- 10:21Speaker 1: maybe we're gonna have to go to marriage counseling or something.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But it looks like it looks like to me that
- 10:26Speaker 1: the wedding was yesterday. I mean, I don't know how
- 10:29Speaker 1: I don't know how much bigger it can be. I mean,
- 10:32Speaker 1: five hundred and some yards of offense, one hundred yard receiver,
- 10:35Speaker 1: one hundred yard rushers, gino, you know, twenty three or
- 10:39Speaker 1: thirty passes or three hundred and twenty yards he rushed
- 10:41Speaker 1: for another touchdown. It was beautiful football. The tight ends
- 10:44Speaker 1: all had you know, catches, two of the tight ends
- 10:47Speaker 1: had touchdowns, you know, like all that kind of stuff.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So I just loved the way it worked. And then
- 10:52Speaker 1: obviously you're not gonna rush. You're not gonna have Father
- 10:54Speaker 1: in some yards every game. But the idea that they
- 10:57Speaker 1: can show up and this is what this is a
- 11:00Speaker 1: game planner coming in with. This is what they're going
- 11:02Speaker 1: to try to execute on. I think it is a
- 11:04Speaker 1: greater chance of being successful. And and I will just
- 11:06Speaker 1: go back to the saying, like if we're gonna talk
- 11:09Speaker 1: about the marriage, I'm gonna say these two left pack
- 11:11Speaker 1: and these two tackles of the groomsmen because they have
- 11:13Speaker 1: been handling their business. Yes, Cross has given up some sacks,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but those things have been more more technique things than
- 11:20Speaker 1: they have been ability. Yesterday they had no sacks. I
- 11:23Speaker 1: think there was only one quarterback hit. Those dudes have
- 11:26Speaker 1: been balling out. And I will keep saying it over
- 11:28Speaker 1: and over and over and over. And I know the
- 11:29Speaker 1: Coup fans will like it because they love me up
- 11:31Speaker 1: every time I say it, so I'm trying to get
- 11:33Speaker 1: a little love. It's that Abe Lucas to me, has
- 11:36Speaker 1: been the field of the draft. Like I know Teri
- 11:38Speaker 1: Wooland has been doing his thing, but Abe Lucas is
- 11:41Speaker 1: a first round that they picked up in the third round.
- 11:44Speaker 1: To dude is playing great football. He is like his cool,
- 11:47Speaker 1: calm demeanor. To me, it's just so intimidating because just
- 11:50Speaker 1: like you just want to see him like get either
- 11:52Speaker 1: super happy or super mad. He doesn't do either one
- 11:55Speaker 1: of them. If you're just kind of like, Okay, what's
- 11:57Speaker 1: wrong is dude? Like? And but he just smashing dudes
- 11:59Speaker 1: all the time. And I think Charles is learning how
- 12:02Speaker 1: to be a little bit more aggressive in its approach,
- 12:04Speaker 1: being a little bit more invitent with his hands and
- 12:06Speaker 1: things like that to go along with his smooth athletics.
- 12:08Speaker 1: To some these dudes have been playing really really good football.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Love to see it. Ray, You got me fired up, man,
- 12:15Speaker 1: let's go. I mean I'm hoping I get the invite
- 12:17Speaker 1: to to the wet Big Day. Um you know what
- 12:20Speaker 1: I'm saying. I'm hoping the honeymoon's going Yeah, in it.
- 12:23Speaker 1: We should be in it, right and then we're gonna
- 12:27Speaker 1: We're gonna be the band and then next year we'll
- 12:29Speaker 1: be talking about the reunion because this team got to
- 12:31Speaker 1: figure it out. Ray, appreciate you as always for hopping
- 12:34Speaker 1: on with us every single week. We're inside the trench
- 12:36Speaker 1: with Ray Roberts offensive line play like no one else.
- 12:39Speaker 1: You're never gonna hear it any better from a guy
- 12:41Speaker 1: who has a PhD and O line play. Ray Roberts.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Appreciate you join us, but thanks for having me, dude.
- 12:46Speaker 1: All r right, thanks right, all right, God gotta love
- 12:48Speaker 1: me some right, that's always fun. Let's get back into
- 12:51Speaker 1: what had happened. See what had happened at first? What
- 12:56Speaker 1: had happened was I was not ready for that. I
- 13:01Speaker 1: was not ready for what we saw. We did our
- 13:03Speaker 1: game predictions, man, We always had that competition, and I'll
- 13:05Speaker 1: take everyone behind the scenes on that. We do our
- 13:07Speaker 1: game predictions. We have a tally throughout the year, and
- 13:10Speaker 1: I don't think anyone had to score over thirty points.
- 13:12Speaker 1: If um crag my memory starts right, I had twenty
- 13:14Speaker 1: one seven. I had twenty one seven. I think Moya
- 13:18Speaker 1: had thirty twenty seven or something like that. But that's
- 13:20Speaker 1: about it. I mean, holy smokes, I mean shootout. I
- 13:23Speaker 1: mean both teams combined for one thousand and seventy five
- 13:26Speaker 1: yards of total offense and ninety three points, and the
- 13:29Speaker 1: Seahawks scored at least ten points in every quarter for
- 13:31Speaker 1: the first time in franchise history. If you were looking
- 13:34Speaker 1: for a defensive ballot, which I love that was not
- 13:37Speaker 1: the case. On the Sunday, Gino Boy, Gino, he got
- 13:40Speaker 1: things going right away out the gate with an impressive
- 13:43Speaker 1: eleven play seventy five yard touchdown drive that ended with
- 13:46Speaker 1: the will distantly touchdown. The Lions answered right back after
- 13:50Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett uncharacteristic. That will be the last time you
- 13:53Speaker 1: ever see that. I think it was the first time
- 13:55Speaker 1: I've seen it, and it's got to be the last time, right, Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I mean he had one one muff, but that was
- 14:00Speaker 1: because somebody was pushed into him against the forty nine ers.
- 14:02Speaker 1: And then this one. Sometimes you get lucky. I think
- 14:05Speaker 1: the helmet just grazed the ball as he was falling
- 14:07Speaker 1: down and bam things happened. But he did get that fumble,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and then Jared Goff and Hawkins and hooked up for
- 14:13Speaker 1: one play for thirty two yards and they're back on
- 14:15Speaker 1: the board. You're thinking, Okay, let's see what Gino does.
- 14:17Speaker 1: He ancels right back a long drive with an eight
- 14:20Speaker 1: yard run. He does it himself this time that was
- 14:23Speaker 1: set up by a big play from DK a fifty
- 14:25Speaker 1: five yard or Gino says, I'm gonna tak it into
- 14:27Speaker 1: my own hands. Actually, Shane Waldron called it, and Gino executed.
- 14:31Speaker 1: He scores a touchdown. That was a great play. I
- 14:33Speaker 1: love that when you see them do that, I'm like, okay,
- 14:35Speaker 1: that means Shane Waldron we'll talk about a little bit
- 14:37Speaker 1: throughout this podcast. He was out there balling. He's been.
- 14:40Speaker 1: He's been in his back the last two weeks for sure,
- 14:43Speaker 1: knowing what they're gonna be, always getting the Seahawks in
- 14:44Speaker 1: the right play. The Lions would then answer back with
- 14:47Speaker 1: a long twelve play drive anywhere when you're a touchdown
- 14:49Speaker 1: run by Jamal Williams making it twenty four to fifteen
- 14:52Speaker 1: at the half. Second half, the opens up Twique willin
- 14:55Speaker 1: let's go pick six forty yards taking picking off Jared Goff.
- 14:59Speaker 1: And we're in ti about this in the film room.
- 15:01Speaker 1: But Tariq Willen is playing way above expectation right now
- 15:05Speaker 1: level we're seeing from him. Yeah, it's nice for tari
- 15:07Speaker 1: to get his hands on the football for the second
- 15:09Speaker 1: week in a row. But then the game will go
- 15:11Speaker 1: back and forth, and there was each team exchanging long
- 15:13Speaker 1: touchdown drive after long touchdown drive, and then there was
- 15:16Speaker 1: a play on third and five or Rashad Penny did
- 15:18Speaker 1: his thing forty one yards to the house, making it
- 15:21Speaker 1: forty eight to thirty eight, and I just like one
- 15:24Speaker 1: the play calling, trusting Rashad Penny, and Penny's showing that. Okay,
- 15:29Speaker 1: the first three weeks statistically probably didn't go the way
- 15:32Speaker 1: that we'd like it to go, but don't forget you
- 15:34Speaker 1: have one of the hottest running backs in the league.
- 15:37Speaker 1: If you transfer over from twenty twenty one, he's killing
- 15:41Speaker 1: the game. I think he's shown again for all the doubters,
- 15:44Speaker 1: all the haters, like, hey, I can play in this
- 15:46Speaker 1: league consistently and he's one of the best home run
- 15:49Speaker 1: hitters in the league. That's not just not just saying that.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I mean you look at his He's already like second
- 15:54Speaker 1: in Seahawks history and runs over thirty yard touchdowns, just
- 15:57Speaker 1: behind Sean Alexander. So the dude can play in the
- 15:59Speaker 1: small on out the lines would score again. After that,
- 16:02Speaker 1: they're unable to recover the onside kick, which was very
- 16:05Speaker 1: closer than I would like. Seahawks end up getting that.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I believe DJ Dallas came up with it, held on
- 16:09Speaker 1: for the forty eight to forty five victory, and bump.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Apparently this was the first time in franchise history. The
- 16:15Speaker 1: Seahawks's not punting the game. I have not been able
- 16:18Speaker 1: to confirm that on my side, but it was set
- 16:19Speaker 1: on the Fox broadcast. I'll take it is as you know,
- 16:23Speaker 1: as gospel. But man, bump, look at that. Look at
- 16:25Speaker 1: the drive chart. It's crazy. They go touchdown, touchdown, field goal, touchdown,
- 16:30Speaker 1: A miss field goal that was a chip shot. Reminds
- 16:33Speaker 1: me of me on the first team when I don't
- 16:35Speaker 1: warm up. You snapped that thing left. Then they go touchdown,
- 16:38Speaker 1: field goal, touchdown. End of the game. They essentially should
- 16:41Speaker 1: have scored on every drive they possessed a football. I mean,
- 16:46Speaker 1: that's that's video game stuff, right, What are we talking about?
- 16:49Speaker 1: And here's the thing. For everyone who's not excited about
- 16:53Speaker 1: the Seahawk victory, what all I can tell you is
- 16:56Speaker 1: this is National Football League. There's grown men that get
- 16:59Speaker 1: paid a lot out of money to play this game.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And when you put forty eight on anybody, I don't
- 17:03Speaker 1: give you know what who's out there. That's impressive. So
- 17:07Speaker 1: good thing to see from the Seahawks playmakers. Only one
- 17:21Speaker 1: place to start, quarterback number seven, number one in our hearts,
- 17:25Speaker 1: Gino Smith twenty three of thirty three hundred twenty yards,
- 17:29Speaker 1: two touchdowns, seven carries forty nine yards in a touchdown.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Gino joined that seven yards per carry. It's quick math
- 17:36Speaker 1: for you. Oh, I appreciate you're good with the sevenths.
- 17:38Speaker 1: You're good with the seventh. I like that. The time
- 17:40Speaker 1: stable is good. Are you helping the kids out? Yeah?
- 17:41Speaker 1: You know, you know, third grade man, Let's get it um.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Gino joined Derek Carr and Tom Brady is the only
- 17:47Speaker 1: quarterback since nineteen fifty with a seventy plus completent percentage
- 17:51Speaker 1: with a minimum of twenty five attempts in each of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the team's first four games in a season. He's also
- 17:55Speaker 1: completing seventy seven point three of his passes this season.
- 17:58Speaker 1: That's the highest least in percentage by any QB three
- 18:01Speaker 1: team's first four games in a season with a minimum
- 18:04Speaker 1: of one hundred and twenty five attempts. This dude is
- 18:07Speaker 1: playing unconscious right now. It's it's really it's hard for
- 18:09Speaker 1: me to really put into words how much he's meant
- 18:11Speaker 1: for this team, because they needed every ounce of offense
- 18:14Speaker 1: that Gino could put up last week. And I just
- 18:17Speaker 1: love his perspective after the game. They're asking him about it.
- 18:19Speaker 1: What are you surprised by this performance? He's like, no,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I can play better. He has expectations so high, and
- 18:24Speaker 1: he's put in the work for years playing behind Russell
- 18:28Speaker 1: before that, playing Buy and Philip Rivers, playing behind Eli
- 18:30Speaker 1: Manning to get his shot again. And this isn't the
- 18:33Speaker 1: New York Jets. You know what I'm saying. He's in
- 18:35Speaker 1: a good He's in a good place. So I'm just
- 18:37Speaker 1: I'm just super excited for Geno. There's nothing else so
- 18:39Speaker 1: I can really say seeing him inside this building and
- 18:41Speaker 1: just a smile he has on his face and this
- 18:42Speaker 1: way he carries himself and does his business. Love to see. Yeah,
- 18:45Speaker 1: extremely excited for Gino. You mentioned back to back three
- 18:48Speaker 1: hundred yard games, first time is done. At his career,
- 18:51Speaker 1: is only thrown over three hundred yards five times, So
- 18:54Speaker 1: we're seeing the culmination of a guy who had opportunities
- 18:59Speaker 1: to learn behind guys were gonna go into the Hall
- 19:01Speaker 1: of Fame Philip Rivers, On Russell Wilson and Eli Manning,
- 19:05Speaker 1: and he's putting it all together. So it's impressive. I
- 19:08Speaker 1: didn't expect this pleasant surprise. Next baller, we're gonna break down.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Rashot Penny seventeen carries for one hundred and fifty one
- 19:14Speaker 1: yards two touchdowns. This is the seventh time in his
- 19:16Speaker 1: career he's rushed over a hundred yards. First one hundred
- 19:19Speaker 1: yard game of the season and seventeen carries. It's just
- 19:23Speaker 1: high for the season. Now, I forgot who it was.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Maybe it was Turbo or it was Big Ray who
- 19:29Speaker 1: said eighteen should be around how many carries this guy
- 19:32Speaker 1: should give him? Almost got there seventeen and you saw
- 19:35Speaker 1: him getting stronger and stronger throughout the game. Big Ray
- 19:38Speaker 1: talks about it. He's not he's seeking contact, he's not
- 19:40Speaker 1: trying to get out of bounds. So now he's got
- 19:43Speaker 1: you on your heels like he's gonna run me over,
- 19:45Speaker 1: He's gonna run by me. He's doing it all right now.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Man number twenty is getting it done. If you want
- 19:49Speaker 1: to ask one person right now on this planet about
- 19:53Speaker 1: how good Rashod Penny's playing right now, I would ask
- 19:56Speaker 1: the Detroit Lion secondary. So on that first first touch run,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and as a former dB back in the day, that
- 20:02Speaker 1: is the worst scenario, worst case scenario, all by the
- 20:05Speaker 1: s or you're by yourself. They got a twenty yard
- 20:08Speaker 1: head start coming right at you, and you just where
- 20:11Speaker 1: to go? What are you gonna do? You're standing there,
- 20:13Speaker 1: It's like, is he gonna joke me? He's gonna run
- 20:15Speaker 1: me over? I mean, then he hit you with the
- 20:16Speaker 1: heavy sut of there. Ye, no, we're shot. You're doing
- 20:20Speaker 1: your thing, DK bump receivers. We've been talking about this
- 20:23Speaker 1: a lot this year on this podcast and throughout all
- 20:25Speaker 1: of our podcasts in the radio network. Is getting DK
- 20:28Speaker 1: more involved? Well, he was involved in the game planning
- 20:31Speaker 1: seven receptions, one hundred and forty nine yards, ten targets.
- 20:34Speaker 1: With his receptions on Sunday, he now moves into tenth
- 20:36Speaker 1: place all time on the Seahawks receiving yards list, passing
- 20:39Speaker 1: Sam McCollum. And this is the thing that blew my
- 20:43Speaker 1: mind when you think of DK metcalf, superstar receiver. This
- 20:46Speaker 1: was DC's first one hundred yard games since Week three
- 20:49Speaker 1: of twenty twenty one against Minnesota. Like obviously, then he
- 20:53Speaker 1: started going peeling layers back. Hey, Russ hurt his finger.
- 20:56Speaker 1: There's a lot going on in there, finding the run
- 20:58Speaker 1: game and we're shot and all that stuff. But still
- 21:00Speaker 1: a man of his He had a couple of games
- 21:01Speaker 1: he was close he's like ninety eight, ninety six, but
- 21:03Speaker 1: still love to see DK production wise and just getting
- 21:07Speaker 1: those slants getting involved early on. So great to see
- 21:10Speaker 1: DK with dCas numbers like this. It's gonna be tough
- 21:12Speaker 1: to be. Yeah, he's doing a little bit of everything.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I saw a dig, I saw a post, I saw
- 21:17Speaker 1: a slant, Like, that's how you get DK the ball
- 21:19Speaker 1: in multiple ways. He can do it all. When Tyler Lockett,
- 21:21Speaker 1: he had a sneaky six for ninety one on ten
- 21:24Speaker 1: targets like I had to look at the box scoring,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, I see Tyler Locket had a
- 21:29Speaker 1: couple of big throws down the field from Geno Smith.
- 21:32Speaker 1: But now he ranks fourth enfranchise history and all time receptions,
- 21:35Speaker 1: passing John L. Williams on the same day. You got
- 21:39Speaker 1: your dogs, your big boys at the receivers receiver spots
- 21:43Speaker 1: making history out there many they could go down. Is
- 21:46Speaker 1: one of the best, if not the best duo at
- 21:49Speaker 1: the receiver spot to see all history, no question about it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I think I think the longevity of them both where
- 21:54Speaker 1: they're at in their career and how fast they're going
- 21:56Speaker 1: up this list. I mean, Steve Argin is in a
- 21:59Speaker 1: class of his own. He's got the gold Steve and
- 22:01Speaker 1: everybody else. We're in the touchdown conference room right now
- 22:04Speaker 1: and there's a picture of Steve on the wall setting
- 22:06Speaker 1: his NFL record with his one hundredth career touchdown catch.
- 22:08Speaker 1: At the time, now was the time where guys weren't
- 22:10Speaker 1: slaying it like that. So Steve is in a class
- 22:13Speaker 1: of himself in terms of the numbers. I don't know
- 22:14Speaker 1: if anyone's gonna catch him there, but these two were
- 22:17Speaker 1: making a name from themselves. From yeah, I think there,
- 22:20Speaker 1: it's gonna be hands down the best combo and Seahawks history.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And then show the tight ends some love. Switching over
- 22:24Speaker 1: to Will Disley, he had four receptions thirty nine yards
- 22:27Speaker 1: and a touchdown. Disley now has three receiving touchdowns on
- 22:30Speaker 1: the season, which leads the team. So love what the
- 22:33Speaker 1: tight ends are doing. No a fan had touchdown earlier.
- 22:35Speaker 1: We talked about that. Kobe Parkins still isn't involved, So
- 22:39Speaker 1: this is now a pattern. This isn't a one game thing,
- 22:41Speaker 1: two game thing. They've the tight ends have been involved
- 22:43Speaker 1: in every single game. So you love to see it.
- 22:45Speaker 1: The tight ends get the party going. They get the
- 22:47Speaker 1: party started. When we open up a drive and then
- 22:50Speaker 1: you see uncle will get a touches. See Kobe Parks
- 22:52Speaker 1: can get a touch. It's gonna be a good day.
- 22:54Speaker 1: That means everything else is working. And then we gotta
- 22:56Speaker 1: show love to the offensive lime. This show has rushed
- 22:59Speaker 1: for two hundred thirty five yards and allows zero sacks.
- 23:02Speaker 1: That's with two rookie tackles out there. You got a
- 23:05Speaker 1: veteran or several veterans on the inside. You got Blythe
- 23:08Speaker 1: who's playing really good at that center spot, communicating with
- 23:11Speaker 1: Gino Smith, getting guys in and out of things. But
- 23:13Speaker 1: the old line, they need some love. Oh yeah, love,
- 23:16Speaker 1: love what they're doing. And you say you mentioned Austin Blythe.
- 23:19Speaker 1: They're seamless. He's getting with having two rookies on the line,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and where he's at, the communication is seamless. He's not
- 23:24Speaker 1: out there getting sack five times like some other people
- 23:27Speaker 1: out there. He's not out there miscommunicating it. Danny, So
- 23:30Speaker 1: I love what Austin Blythe is doing. Happy he's on
- 23:33Speaker 1: our squad. Lastly, for playmakers, Tarik willing Man trek five tackles,
- 23:37Speaker 1: one pass defense, one pick six, which we will break
- 23:40Speaker 1: down here shortly, and he's had interceptions and back to
- 23:42Speaker 1: back weeks. So love what the young fella is doing.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Bump back to the round up. Look at these receivers.
- 23:47Speaker 1: We talked about the first two, but what do you
- 23:49Speaker 1: like to see about this box score? You know what?
- 23:52Speaker 1: I see one, two, three receivers. I see three tight ends.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I see two running backs. Every position who was eligible
- 23:58Speaker 1: to get the ball once again got some receptions. But
- 24:02Speaker 1: the tight ends. You got seven targets between will and
- 24:04Speaker 1: Parkinson and then you throw Noah Fat in there one target,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but he also scored a touchdown. So now all tight
- 24:10Speaker 1: ends have score touchdowns, all of them. So now we
- 24:13Speaker 1: need a Rashad Penny to get a reception receiving touchdown,
- 24:17Speaker 1: just to mix it up a little bit, and might
- 24:19Speaker 1: as well throw up Kenneth Walker there as well. Like
- 24:22Speaker 1: keep mixing it up. And I think that once you
- 24:23Speaker 1: get into the red zone, that's where those running back
- 24:26Speaker 1: screens are going to come into play later. So yeah, man,
- 24:30Speaker 1: hey it's getting spread out. I love it, love to
- 24:32Speaker 1: see it. And one other thing I love to see
- 24:34Speaker 1: is d Eskridge. Yes, he only had one reception, but
- 24:38Speaker 1: I thought he was more involved in the game plan.
- 24:41Speaker 1: He was out there. He's you know, previously leading into
- 24:43Speaker 1: this week, it's really been Marquise Goodwin, who's gotten all
- 24:46Speaker 1: the number three receiver reps, if you will. So good
- 24:49Speaker 1: to see d es Ridch out there competing for playing
- 24:50Speaker 1: time and just hoping to continue to get him more
- 24:53Speaker 1: involved as things go on. All right, we've been teasing
- 24:56Speaker 1: it all. Show the play of the game on the
- 24:58Speaker 1: defensive side to re Willing steps in front of Jared
- 25:01Speaker 1: Goff's pass for a forty yard pick six. Golf will
- 25:04Speaker 1: start under center. He has two tight ends in the
- 25:07Speaker 1: game of play. Fake to Williams. Golf has all kinds
- 25:10Speaker 1: of time. He's gonna throw. It's nicked off coming the
- 25:12Speaker 1: other ways. Neal down of the twenty, that's cut back
- 25:16Speaker 1: inside touchdown, Say Hawks, it's one Trek one makes the
- 25:22Speaker 1: interception return for the touchdown. Terrek just stepped right in
- 25:27Speaker 1: front of the receiver, picked it off, and he was
- 25:30Speaker 1: gone to the racist for thirty nine and a touch
- 25:33Speaker 1: And man, that's the way to start the second half.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Bump man, what Trek will putting on a clinic? Man,
- 25:40Speaker 1: he's doing his thing. He's doing his thing. So he's
- 25:43Speaker 1: up top. The Detroit Lions are in a tight little formation, right,
- 25:46Speaker 1: and you got two tight ends up top. I think
- 25:48Speaker 1: that's a tight end of receiver than a motion, a
- 25:51Speaker 1: tight into the other side of formation and kind of
- 25:53Speaker 1: give that run look and teres on the island all
- 25:56Speaker 1: by himself, right. He gets in that little bell technique
- 25:58Speaker 1: real quickly. He turns those hips and start to run.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And I honestly think he baited this throw. The more
- 26:04Speaker 1: that I look at it, I think he made Jared
- 26:06Speaker 1: Goff thing that my guy was open. What happens as
- 26:08Speaker 1: a guy he is covering runs like a dig, a
- 26:10Speaker 1: deep dig, like around fifteen yards when Teriq has outside
- 26:14Speaker 1: leverage on him. As soon as that player puts that
- 26:16Speaker 1: left foot in the ground, Tarique trails on his back
- 26:19Speaker 1: hip and then his closing speed. You just see him
- 26:21Speaker 1: take two or three more steps faster than that receiver does.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And then you really want to see some speed. You
- 26:26Speaker 1: watch his man run towards the end zone with that
- 26:28Speaker 1: rock in his haid. This looks like a veteran out
- 26:32Speaker 1: there who was composed, who attacked the football and went
- 26:35Speaker 1: and scored when he had it in his hands. You
- 26:38Speaker 1: talk about closing speed. When Hawkinson gets in his break
- 26:41Speaker 1: Terik is moving so fast it looks like Hawkinson slowed
- 26:44Speaker 1: down and he didn't right. It looks like he absolutely
- 26:46Speaker 1: stopped running. But no, Tarique, I agree with you on
- 26:48Speaker 1: the baiting thing, because Pete Carroll talked about this a
- 26:51Speaker 1: little bit the last couple of weeks. Is that he's
- 26:53Speaker 1: seen Tarika go and pick off fast in practice that
- 26:55Speaker 1: he's not seen from any corners going back until the
- 26:57Speaker 1: Legion of Boomera, where someone runs kind of a dig
- 27:00Speaker 1: or crossing right across the field and he picks it
- 27:02Speaker 1: off on the opposite sideline. His closing speed, I mean
- 27:05Speaker 1: when he when he decides he's gonna make a break
- 27:07Speaker 1: on this football, he is flying and it's in stride.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He he got there so fast it looked like it
- 27:14Speaker 1: looks like Jared was thrown to him. I mean it
- 27:16Speaker 1: looked like he was the only possible intending to receiver.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So the fact that a man who has played the
- 27:21Speaker 1: amount of games he has at corner is doing this
- 27:23Speaker 1: in the nash Football League, I don't know what to
- 27:26Speaker 1: tell you, man. All I know is Tarika owns a
- 27:28Speaker 1: certified baller, and we're gonna see a lot more good
- 27:30Speaker 1: things for him and finally, it's been a couple of weeks.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Come on, we're back to that formation. You know what
- 27:35Speaker 1: it is. Here comes the Seahawk offense onto the field
- 27:40Speaker 1: and the Vikings defense trudging out there knowing that one
- 27:45Speaker 1: kneel down and the Seahawks are gonna wind the clock
- 27:48Speaker 1: down and win this one. It's the victory formation on
- 27:51Speaker 1: Hawk Talk, greatest formation of football, nass I said, victory formation.
- 27:56Speaker 1: And we are finally in it. And how do we
- 27:58Speaker 1: get here? Mainly because of all offense five hundred and
- 28:01Speaker 1: fifty five yards of offense. Rashad Penny rush for one
- 28:04Speaker 1: hundred and fifty one. They rush for two thirty five
- 28:07Speaker 1: as a squad in two touchdowns. It was just it
- 28:10Speaker 1: was an offensive explosion. Whatever the offensive wanted to due
- 28:13Speaker 1: they did. They scored ten points you mentioned earlier or
- 28:17Speaker 1: more in every quarter, first time in franchise history. Five
- 28:21Speaker 1: and fifty five. I believe that's the fourth or fifth
- 28:23Speaker 1: highest total yards they've had in franchise history. The offense
- 28:26Speaker 1: looked explosive and efficient every step of the way. They
- 28:30Speaker 1: looked that way. I mean from drive one to the
- 28:33Speaker 1: last drive of the game. They had things rolling and
- 28:35Speaker 1: it was great to see I mentioned earlier, Shane Waldron
- 28:37Speaker 1: has been killing the game. He's called an unbelievable amount
- 28:41Speaker 1: of great plays. We're always in the right play between
- 28:44Speaker 1: him and Gino, They're on the same page. They're always
- 28:46Speaker 1: in the right play. And I love what we're seeing
- 28:47Speaker 1: now because I feel like they've gotten to a point
- 28:49Speaker 1: now where Pete even said it, the offense is open.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Everything that Shane Waldron has in his bag, everything that
- 28:56Speaker 1: he brought from the Rams, everything that's in his arsenal,
- 28:58Speaker 1: we're gonna start seeing the next couple weeks, which is
- 29:00Speaker 1: gonna make the Seahawks incredibly tough to defend. And gotta
- 29:03Speaker 1: give love to Geno man Gino, most accurate passer in
- 29:06Speaker 1: the National Football League, having the best season of his career,
- 29:09Speaker 1: and it's frankly not close. He's doing things that other
- 29:12Speaker 1: quarterbacks that get paid stupid amounts of money aren't doing.
- 29:15Speaker 1: And yes it's four weeks, Yes they just played the lines,
- 29:18Speaker 1: but he's been consistent. We can't say he's not pushing
- 29:20Speaker 1: the ball down the field anymore after last week. He's
- 29:23Speaker 1: doing it everywhere. He's getting the Seahawks in the right
- 29:25Speaker 1: type of plays. So I'm not saying he's about to
- 29:27Speaker 1: be the MVP or anything. I'm just saying he's bawling
- 29:30Speaker 1: out and it's showing on the field, and this offense
- 29:32Speaker 1: is finally hitting their stripe. Yep, offense looks good. We
- 29:34Speaker 1: highlighted a DK seven for one forty nine and now
- 29:37Speaker 1: it's about the defense, right. They gave a five hundred
- 29:40Speaker 1: and thirty yards and forty five points. But this is
- 29:43Speaker 1: what they did, Dode. They got some three and ouns
- 29:44Speaker 1: early and they turned or they forced turnovers. You got
- 29:48Speaker 1: Kobe Bran would have forced fumble, so Rick Willa would
- 29:51Speaker 1: have picked six. They contributed to the forty eight points
- 29:54Speaker 1: that the Hawks put up there, so they gotta fix
- 29:56Speaker 1: some things. When I denying that, but when you walk
