Speaker 1: You were a Porsche guy.
• 1:47
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: I went to high school with a friend of mine that was.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: He started off with bugs, Volkswagen bugs, and then, when he did well, he went and bought himself an older Porsche, all covered up in the garage.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: He drives it every now and then he says I just absolutely love that thing, it's an air-cooled version.
• 2:06
Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but it looks good.
• 2:09
  Speaker 1: Silver.
• 2:11
Speaker 3: Is your car here today?
• 2:12
  Speaker 3: It's here.
• 2:13
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 2:14
  Speaker 3: It's a 2019 Carrera GTS oh.
• 2:19
Speaker 1: Oh, does she know what a Carrera GTS?
• 2:22
Speaker 3: is, I do, she does.
• 2:24
  Speaker 4: It's pretty and it's fast.
• 2:26
Speaker 4: That's right and pretty fast yeah it is.
• 2:30
Speaker 1: So what possessed you to go after one of the top-of-the-line cars?
• 2:35
Speaker 3: Well, I had the base model to start with, and then, wanted to upgrade.
• 2:39
Speaker 3: Couldn't quite swing the GT3 or the Turbo S, so I went to the GTS.
• 2:46
  Speaker 1: That's next.
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: That's next.
• 2:47
  Speaker 1: You heard it.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: She said it so she's on your side, apparently.
• 2:51
Speaker 3: That's always good to have.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: Yeah, so are you a Porsche-phile too.
• 2:57
  Speaker 4: I love Porsche.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: Do you, I do.
• 2:59
Speaker 4: Our very first one we accidentally got for our 40th wedding anniversary.
• 3:04
Speaker 4: Accidentally Well well, we just went to dealership to look around and drove one home, uh-huh and we thought what?
• 3:11
  Speaker 4: The heck yeah.
• 3:12
Speaker 4: And then we fell in love with it of course and then we moved on and moved up and hope to move up again well, you know it's funny.
• 3:19
Speaker 1: Uh, I've always admired porsches a distance.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: I could never afford one.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: I borrowed one from a friend of mine years and years and years ago and it was the one that really didn't look like a Porsche.
• 3:33
Speaker 1: It had that chopped-off back window and I don't know what model it was, but it was a rear-engine air-cooled Porsche.
• 3:40
Speaker 1: That thing handled like nothing that I have ever driven before that or after that.
• 3:46
Speaker 1: There's something special about that car.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: It's all about the handling.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: Add more power to it and they know how to do that.
• 3:55
Speaker 1: I can only imagine that thing.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: Have you ever tracked the car at all?
• 3:59
Speaker 3: No, never have, not mine.
• 4:01
Speaker 3: I've driven a Porsche on the track before, but not mine.
• 4:04
Speaker 1: We have driven a.
• 4:04
Speaker 3: Porsche on the track before, but not mine.
• 4:06
Speaker 1: Because you know we have a connection with an.
• 4:09
Speaker 1: Scca connection with a friend of ours down at Richard Tomlin down at Apex Auto Works and he's an official actually with SCCA and he does a lot of well actually all over the United States.
• 4:24
Speaker 1: But his track is down there at Angleton.
• 4:26
Speaker 1: You ever been down there?
• 4:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, we've been down there, that's where we rode, we've ridden with people down there.
• 4:31
Speaker 3: We've never driven on it.
• 4:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, all I can think of is that I flashback.
• 4:37
  Speaker 1: I'm a Corvette guy.
• 4:38
Speaker 1: I flashback to a couple of years ago and had the opportunity to take the car on Circuit of the Americas.
• 4:45
Speaker 1: It was a Corvette deal, so there was lots of Corvettes and we all had to get on the.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: They set us out I don't know, a dozen at a time, right, but you know you got the horsepower.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: There at your right foot there's some guys that go a little faster than they asked you to go and so there would be gaps and you could kind of get on it and go around the corners and stuff like that.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what.
• 5:10
Speaker 1: It sure was fun.
• 5:11
Speaker 1: I'm very careful I don't tear up my car or anything like that, but it sure was fun to put it to the max, run it up to the red line a couple of times and that sort of stuff, because I'd never done that before and it was fun.
• 5:25
Speaker 1: And you obviously have some experience not driving, but I will encourage you to if you ever get the opportunity and they have those events out there where you can take your car out there and drive it.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, we have a friend that's an instructor down there oh very good and he takes us out every once in a while.
• 5:42
Speaker 1: So you've got the connection down there and he takes us out.
• 5:44
Speaker 1: So you've got the connection.
• 5:45
  Speaker 4: We do.
• 5:45
Speaker 4: And what he didn't tell you is once we got that Porsche, it was time for me to get a car and I said, oh no, it's got to be a Porsche.
• 5:53
Speaker 4: So we ended up with a 2015 Macan.
• 5:58
Speaker 3: Nice oh okay, do you?
• 5:59
  Speaker 4: love it.
• 5:59
Speaker 4: I love that car.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: I will drive that car until the wheels fall off.
• 6:03
  Speaker 4: Wow.
• 6:05
Speaker 3: Because I love that car, I will drive that car until the wheels fall off.
• 6:07
  Speaker 3: Wow.
• 6:07
Speaker 4: Because it will get up.
• 6:08
Speaker 4: So that is your daily driver, that's my daily driver and it is a turbo.
• 6:10
Speaker 3: It's as powerful as that first.
• 6:11
  Speaker 3: It's as powerful.
• 6:12
  Speaker 4: It raises up.
• 6:13
Speaker 3: You have to look up if you really want to take off in it, it's a 400 horsepower.
• 6:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, wow, no slacker there, no.
• 6:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, so we really have enjoyed it, and the 911 fits you like a glove For a lady.
• 6:26
Speaker 4: You can just scoot down in there and you feel comfortable.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: Does she let you drive it?
• 6:31
Speaker 4: I drive it yeah.
• 6:32
Speaker 3: She drives as much as I do, I do I do Honey, can I drive it?
• 6:36
Speaker 3: No, honey, I'm taking it, I'm taking it Where's the keys.
• 6:40
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 6:40
Speaker 3: Yeah, where's the keys?
• 6:41
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah we do?
• 6:45
Speaker 4: We do the Twisted Sister with the Porsche Club, and I don't drive that, but I will someday.
• 6:50
  Speaker 1: Good, good.
• 6:52
Speaker 1: Have you ever taken any road course courses?
• 6:55
Speaker 3: No, no, never have.
• 6:57
Speaker 1: No, there was a time this is several years ago and I don't know how all that worked, but do they still have?
• 7:06
  Speaker 1: Do you know?
• 7:06
Speaker 1: A deal with the Mercedes dealership, some Mercedes dealership.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: They had Mercedes cars there and one of the instructors took me out in a Mercedes on that course to show me the lines going into the corners and coming out of the corners and all that sort of stuff, and it was truly fascinating that if you're a fairly decent learner, you can increase your times pretty quickly once you get the hang of it, and it's tons of fun.
• 7:39
Speaker 4: They have classes down in Angleton that you can take.
• 7:41
  Speaker 4: That's what I'm talking about.
• 7:41
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, they have classes down in Angleton that you can take.
• 7:42
Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about yeah, yeah Well, I have read that.
• 7:47
Speaker 1: All of the reviews and all of the ratings of all of the new car manufacturers.
• 7:53
Speaker 1: At the top of the list of all of them is Porsche.
• 7:57
Speaker 1: Do you agree with that?
• 7:59
Speaker 3: I don't mean because I can't compare it to anything else, because I've never owned anything else.
• 8:03
Speaker 3: Well, you've owned a pickup truck.
• 8:05
Speaker 4: Well, I've owned a pickup truck yeah, For price-wise it's probably the most reasonable fast car Other than Corvettes, probably the more reasonable.
• 8:14
Speaker 4: I would like to have a.
• 8:15
  Speaker 1: Corvette, Would you?
• 8:15
Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean, I picked mine up that had.
• 8:18
  Speaker 1: It was a 2001 six-speed manual.
• 8:22
Speaker 1: This was six, seven years ago and it had 16,000 miles on it and I paid $16,000 for it.
• 8:31
  Speaker 3: Wow.
• 8:32
Speaker 1: And depending on the quality of the car today, you can still pick it up for about that.
• 8:37
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: And you know 350 horsepower and I see them online all the time for sale.
• 8:46
Speaker 4: Yeah, we went to Vegas one year and went out on that track and rented cars all day long and drove each car to figure out which ones we liked.
• 8:55
Speaker 4: Wow, and I still drove away with.
• 8:57
Speaker 4: The Porsche and the Corvette would have been the two out of all those cars.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, we drove McLaren and Ferrari and I don't remember what else, but there was like five different cars we drove Well for the money.
• 9:07
Speaker 1: You know you get a lot for the money.
• 9:09
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: And the capability of the car.
• 9:13
Speaker 1: Plus, not only that, the aftermarket is huge.
• 9:16
Speaker 1: I mean, how far do you want to go?
• 9:17
Speaker 1: Do you want to put a power adder on it?
• 9:19
Speaker 1: Do you want to put wide tires on it?
• 9:21
Speaker 1: Do you want to put the different rear in?
• 9:23
Speaker 3: whatever, it's all available yeah, yeah, a lot of the stuff is easy to bolt on, like exhaust and yeah, and we change our own oil yeah do you?
• 9:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, we do a lot of basic maintenance.
• 9:33
Speaker 3: We do it our own, yeah why not?

Speaker 2: I think we got time.
• 15:16
Speaker 2: We got time, time, time.
• 15:19
Speaker 2: Just do it On my side, do it this week in auto history the new Ford Mustang or Probe.
• 15:26
Speaker 2: It was actually going to be called the Mustang until Ford.
• 15:29
Speaker 2: Somebody got the idea that that wouldn't be too good after the buying public said no, we don't like it, don't like it.
• 15:37
Speaker 2: So they ended up making it the Ford Probe.
• 15:41
Speaker 2: Now it came with a 2.2 liter Mazda four-cylinder engine and when it first debuted it came with a 2.2 liter Mazda four-cylinder engine and when it first debuted it was real high demand.
• 15:50
Speaker 2: It was a really popular car for a while.
• 15:52
Speaker 2: Some people were actually paid higher than MSRP for this vehicle early on.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: But the last Probe rolled off the assembly line in June 20, 1997.
• 16:05
Speaker 2: Then also this week, may 13, 1986, the Jeep Wrangler goes on sale.
• 16:10
Speaker 2: Now it may sound kind of strange, but prior to Chrysler buying the Jeep from AMC in 1987, it was a Jeep but it was called a YJCJ.
• 16:22
Speaker 2: They had a lot of different names for it, but it was not called a Wrangler until Chrysler bought it and then produced it out and renamed it with the Wrangler I'll be darned.
• 16:32
Speaker 2: So they've sold more than 100,000 Wranglers per year since 2011 and more than 200,000 since 2018.
• 16:41
Speaker 2: A year vehicles sold.
• 16:43
Speaker 2: Majority of those are now four doors.
• 16:49
  Speaker 2: I think it's almost 75 percent now.
• 16:50
Speaker 2: Also this week, subaru introduces the 1000.
• 16:52
  Speaker 2: Now.
• 16:52
Speaker 2: This is important because it's tiny rear engine 360 for a decade is what they sold, but they wanted to compete with corolla, nissan, mazda and others.
• 17:01
Speaker 2: So they made this first front wheel drive car that they ever built, with a 977 cc boxer engine with 54 horsepower, and they produced that until 1969, and that would be this week in auto history you're a miracle worker, mars is he?
• 17:21
Speaker 1: so am I, because I have from Travelin' Tom's Coffee Truck a.
• 17:29
Speaker 1: Oh, I ordered one.
• 17:30

• 17:42
Speaker 3: Would you send that to me?
• 17:43
  Speaker 3: Is that a?
• 17:43
  Speaker 1: Ford?
• 17:43
  Speaker 1: Well, I don't have it.
• 17:45
  Speaker 1: A Ford.
• 17:45
  Speaker 1: A Ford Mach-E, Ford Mach-E.
• 17:45
Speaker 1: Is that a Ford?
• 17:45

• 17:46
  Speaker 1: A Ford, a Ford Mach-E.
• 17:47
  Speaker 3: Ford Mach-E.
• 17:48
