Transcript
- 0:00The action of the three gunas rules our external nature.
- 0:05Rajas, active in the vital being, tends to fixate on the
- 0:09fulfillment and satisfaction of desires of whatever kind.
- 0:14Desires, however, cannot ever be fully satisfied.
- 0:18As the fulfillment of a desire simply increases, the vitals
- 0:22push for more. A groove is more or less created
- 0:27that is a known and easy pathway for energy to flow, and
- 0:31thereafter it tends to go down that path more easily than
- 0:36trying to take a different approach.
- 0:39When a desire is not satisfied, it tends to recoil into the Guna
- 0:43of Thomas, which can bring about dissatisfaction, depression,
- 0:49weakness, lethargy, or feelings of incapacity or insufficiency.
- 0:55The action of the gunas in the external nature is so automatic
- 1:00that people tend to get caught up in them and just accept them
- 1:03as the reality of their lives. The spiritual seeker has before
- 1:08him the task of unraveling these reactions and responses and
- 1:13rewiring the direction of the energy flow toward the Divine.
- 1:18One of the most powerful methods is to create within oneself the
- 1:22witness consciousness, which stands back and observes the
- 1:26action of the external nature and is able to see these
- 1:30reactions for what they are. He can also note that both
- 1:35satisfaction of the desire and denial of the desire create
- 1:40results that keep the attention focused on the outer nature
- 1:44instead of on the spiritual aspiration itself.
- 1:48Eventually, this witness can become more or less a neutral
- 1:53observer and not provide any sanction or support to those
- 1:57movements. Rather, he can consciously turn
- 2:01his focus to the psychic being and support the soul's
- 2:05aspiration and the link to the Divine Presence and reality.
- 2:12Srioro Bindo notes quote The rule in yoga is not to let the
- 2:17depression depress you, to stand back from it, observe its cause,
- 2:22and remove the cause. For the cause is always in
- 2:26oneself, perhaps a vital defect somewhere, a wrong movement
- 2:31indulged, or a petty desire causing a recoil, sometimes by
- 2:37its satisfaction, sometimes by its disappointment.
- 2:42In yoga, a desire satisfied a false movement, given its head,
- 2:47produces very often a worse recoil than disappointed desire.
- 2:53What is needed for you is to live more deeply within, less in
- 2:57the outer vital and mental part which is exposed to these
- 3:00touches. The inmost psychic being is not
- 3:04oppressed by them. It stands in its own closeness
- 3:07to the divine and sees the small surface movements as surface
- 3:12things foreign to the true being.
