Auburn, Indiana is rolling out two new local taxes to fund road repairs — a $7.50 car tax and a bit more for trucks — designed to replace, not add to, existing county fees. Mayor Dave Clark assures residents this won’t increase their burden, as the state now allows cities to collect these taxes without double-dipping. Inspired by similar efforts in other Indiana towns, Auburn plans to invest $2-3 million annually on roads, matched dollar-for-dollar by the state.
