- 0:01Amen. God is good.
- 0:05He sang beautifully tonight. I was edified and I am excited
- 0:09to be at a fight in the word with you, but before we begin.
- 0:13Let's see who remembered from last Friday.
- 0:18I issued an assignment. In relation to the promises of
- 0:24God in the word of God that you and I would familiarize
- 0:28ourselves much more with the goodness of God pertaining to
- 0:33his particular assurances to us. And so, your assignment was to
- 0:38look for something that genuinely touch your heart.
- 0:42And then you can hold onto in stormy seasons and Times of
- 0:46Temptation and not just to console yourself but to even
- 0:49bless somebody else at the word would be on the Tip of your
- 0:52tongue and so I'm not going to call anybody out.
- 0:55That's that's not a way to teach.
- 0:56I'm just going to invite those who took that to heart and said
- 1:00you know I'm going to do this by next Friday.
- 1:02I'm going to give a verse and not just to show that I
- 1:05memorized suddenly but to show that I really want to know God's
- 1:09word for myself, anybody have a verse that they want to share.
- 1:13Well, there was memorize or something that you've having
- 1:15your Bible that you're trying to really embed in your heart.
- 1:23Sure. Beautiful, Philippians, 1:6
- 1:33Christ Assurance to us that he will work on us and keep us till
- 1:36the end. What?
- 1:36A beautiful promise anything else?
- 1:41Yes. Beautiful, Psalm. 91, powerful
- 1:55powerful scripture. Yes.
- 1:56Thank you brother. Any other scripture?
- 2:05Yes, yes. Amen.
- 2:09That repeated phrase. Yes, his Mercy doesn't do her
- 2:11forever. Yeah, sure.
- 2:29Beautiful Romans 6, powerful chapter.
- 2:31Yes. Any other scriptures?
- 2:37Yes. Beautiful.
- 2:44Some, some 30, you said, yeah, look at the reference, trying to
- 2:49find the reference. It's important to know the
- 2:50reference to so that if we don't have a Bible in hand that we can
- 2:55help others find it, That is a beautiful promise, anything
- 3:01else? Yes.
- 3:10Yes, amen. Amen.
- 3:12Maybe a couple more. Sure.
- 3:39Amen. Well, we can tell that it really
- 3:41touches your heart sister. Any other scripture?
- 4:00Beautiful. Yes, we're using then Phoebe and
- 4:02then we'll continue our study. Yes, amen.
- 4:14Wonderful. Wonderful.
- 4:15Insurance. One more.
- 4:19Yes, Phoebe. And then you can and okay yes
- 4:22got it. Yes.
- 4:48Yes, one of my favorite verses on repentance acts 3:19 repent.
- 4:52That times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
- 4:56Wonderful May challenge you further.
- 4:58I know that we live busy lives. Take those verses and etch them
- 5:03on your soul so that you can say it from memory that will come in
- 5:09handy. When you don't have a Bible in
- 5:11hand or when your battery runs out on your iPhone.
- 5:15That you would have it, ready? You can wield that sword and you
- 5:18can engage in Warfare with the preparedness.
- 5:25So, those are wonderful promises.
- 5:26I hope that you will grow in your hunger to know the promises
- 5:28of God. We come to 2nd Samuel now.
- 5:31Chapter 8, Turn your Bibles there with me.
- 5:37We have an interesting passage before us tonight.
- 5:41It may not be as gripping as what we studied in the previous
- 5:44chapter, but it is an intriguing passage nonetheless.
- 5:47And the reason why I think it is intriguing is because the
- 5:51content will demand meditation. It's not something that you can
- 5:56just easily read and, and, and pick up certain truths from a,
- 6:02from a, just a face value kind of thing.
- 6:05But it's going to demand. It's going to demand you to
- 6:07actually think with every verse what is it?
- 6:11That the Lord is trying to say in this text, what is the
- 6:15spiritual Insight? What is the nourishment that I
- 6:17can acquire from this portion of scripture?
- 6:22I'm going to read these verses but as I read them again, pay
- 6:26attention. You can easily lose focus
- 6:30because there's a lot of details to you and it seems like there's
- 6:33nothing much that this text has to offer.
- 6:36But that is not true because I hope you and I've studied the
- 6:39Old Testament long enough to know There's not one piece of
- 6:42the Bible that has nothing to say to us.
- 6:45There's something here for us so it's going to be it's going to
- 6:48be quite a few verses and I can read the whole chapter but
- 6:51perhaps the first 14 verses so we can have just a framework of
- 6:54what we're going to uncover tonight.
- 6:57So keep keep with me here. If you're watching this on a
- 7:00later time on the recording or if you're with us even now
- 7:02online also follow along with us and I'm going to ask what stood
- 7:07out to you. We'll see what we can do from
- 7:10there. Second Samuel, 81 after this,
- 7:14David defeated the Philistines and subdued them.
- 7:18And David took meth a gamma out of the hand of the Philistines
- 7:22and he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line,
- 7:25making them lie down on the ground, two lines, he measured
- 7:30to be put to death and one full line to be spared and the
- 7:34moabites became Servants of David and brought tribute.
- 7:38David also defeated had that as ER the son of her hope king of
- 7:42Zaba and he went to restore his power at the river.
- 7:46Euphrates and David took for him Seventeen hundred Horsemen and
- 7:50twenty thousand foot soldiers and David hamstrung all the
- 7:54Chariot horses but left enough for a hundred chariots and when
- 7:58the syrians of Damascus came to help had a desert king of Zorba,
- 8:02David struck down. 22,000 men of the syrians then David put
- 8:07Garrison's and I removed Damascus and the syrians became
- 8:10servants to David and brought tribute and the lord gave
- 8:14Victory to David wherever he went.
- 8:16And David took the shields of goal that were carried by the
- 8:19Servants of had that as ER and brought them to Jerusalem and
- 8:24from beta. And from bharath I cities of had
- 8:27a taser King. David took very much bronze went
- 8:32away. I king of Hamas heard that David
- 8:34had defeated the whole Army of had a taser.
- 8:36So I sent his son Jesus. Ram to King David to ask about
- 8:41his health and to bless him because he fought against had as
- 8:44ER and defeated him for had as their had often been at war with
- 8:48toe. I injure ambra with him,
- 8:51particles of, silver of golden of bronze.
- 8:54These also King David dedicated to the Lord together with the
- 8:58silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations.
- 9:01He subdued from Edom, Moab the ammonites the Philistines emelec
- 9:06and from the spoil of had it as of, the son of rohini, Hope king
- 9:08of Zaba and David made a name for himself.
- 9:11When he returned from striking down 18,000 edomites, in the
- 9:15valley of salt, some translations would say syrians
- 9:18there's a reason for that. Then he put Garrison's in Edom,
- 9:22throw all Edom, he put garrisons and all the edomites became
- 9:25David's servants and the lord gave Victory to David wherever
- 9:29he went. Did you stick through?
- 9:31I hope so. Now with that overview, is there
- 9:35anything that you feel like is And if there's details there
- 9:39that, you noticed, make make mention of it.
- 9:41Yes. Yes.
- 10:22So God is continually assisting David as David's heart has
- 10:25continually said on glorifying him.
- 10:27So from what I understand, what you're saying is that the Lord
- 10:29is the one who's helping David do what he's doing here.
- 10:31Correct. Yes.
- 10:32And we were told that a couple of times in this chapter.
- 10:34Yes. Okay.
- 10:39Interesting. The moabites remember who they
- 10:41were remember how they related to David?
- 10:43We're going to discover that in the moment.
- 10:44Some of them were spared is there a reason for that?
- 10:46Well, don't fall asleep. In the Bible study.
- 10:48Find out anything else. Okay, yeah, so he's dealing with
- 10:55them in a specific way. It may seem cruel to us
- 11:11Yeah. So is there a prophetic
- 11:12fulfillment here? That Esau would serve?
- 11:15Jacob. I think there is a partial
- 11:17fulfillment there. Absolutely, yes.
- 11:19So we see some prophetic accomplishments here so to
- 11:22speak. Any other observations?
- 11:25It's a challenging text isn't it?
- 11:26But it's important to meditate on.
- 11:28Yes. Yes.
- 11:46So, our brother here, made a good observation, connecting
- 11:49chapter 7 with what's happening in chapter 8.
- 11:52Now, here's an important lesson for you.
- 11:53When you look at the Bible and you read the Bible, some of the
- 11:56Bible is written chronologically, right?
- 11:59So there's a sequence of things happening in a linear timeline,
- 12:02but the authors of the scripture inspired by the Holy Spirit,
- 12:05we're not limited to a chronological writing style.
- 12:09Most of them, many of them, depending on the context wrote
- 12:11thematically. Thematically.
- 12:14So all the events in chapter 8, it's throughout the span of
- 12:19David's Reign, right? And it's placed here right after
- 12:23chapter 7 for that very purpose, that we just heard that God is
- 12:26fulfilling his promise that he gave to David about blessing his
- 12:30household and keeping him and preserving him and prospering
- 12:34him. So it's important to see chapter
- 12:368 as a partial fulfillment of the promises that we studied in
- 12:39chapter 7. Very good.
- 12:40Any other observations? Yes.
- 12:47Oh Lord, you're helping me here is all of this for you all the
- 12:50bronze, all the gold, all the silver.
- 12:52What did he end up doing with all that?
- 12:53By the way, He's going to he's going to use those resources to
- 12:58build the temple. Yes, good.
- 13:01Yes, somebody else. Somebody else had their hand up.
- 13:03I saw somebody else with their hand up.
- 13:06Okay good. Anything else?
- 13:12The overview of chapter 8 if we want just a summary of what's
- 13:15Happening Here. This is really a catalog of the
- 13:18major Conquest that David accomplished during his Reign
- 13:23and it's really to showcase the faithfulness of God and one of
- 13:26the promises among the grand promise of chapter 7
- 13:30specifically verse 9 of chapter seven, look at it very quickly.
- 13:33God promised David to make a great name for him.
- 13:41And that's happening as David is expanding his military presence
- 13:47and power. A great name is being made for
- 13:51him. He's becoming a renowned King,
- 13:53an esteemed ruler and leader a respected man, not just a man,
- 13:58but man of God. And so that's really the
- 14:00overview of all of this and when you look at it you can almost
- 14:05say this could have been summarized in one verse or two
- 14:08maybe. We could have just looked at the
- 14:10different enemies that he defeated by name and then we
- 14:13could have just moved on, perhaps with a footnote that
- 14:16says, yes, God is fulfilling his promise.
- 14:17But instead, the Holy Spirit wants to expand on David's
- 14:21campaigns and dealing with these different enemies and give us
- 14:24some measure of detail in a neatly listed way, for a reason
- 14:30to pull us in to have a closer look and to kind of kind of look
- 14:34for what this might mean for us in our New Covenant context.
- 14:39This chapter when I read it, it reminded me of our study in the
- 14:42Book of Joshua, for those who were there.
- 14:44You know, that the Book of Joshua has heavily emphasizing
- 14:48of Israel's Ancient Warfare with God's enemies.
- 14:53And there's a lot of this happening, just like a highlight
- 14:55reel of how Joshua and the Israelites took over this region
- 14:58and took over this enemy. And we come here again.
- 15:01And we might be tempted to deal with this chapter the way many
- 15:05fall into temptation. When it comes to handling the
- 15:08Book of Joshua just Skimming over it to hopefully found
- 15:11something on the surface that could apply to us in a relevant
- 15:14way. But again, you and I've studied
- 15:17the Old Testament long enough to know there's much more in here.
- 15:20There are rubies of Revelation if we just, but excavate, take
- 15:24our time and meditate to see what it is that the spirit of
- 15:27God is saying. And I think the best way to
- 15:29approach this chapter is to establish from a framework point
- 15:33of view that David here, arguably has conquered a total
- 15:38of Seven Nations, right? And we read some of them and
- 15:44we're familiar with some of them.
- 15:45Whether the Philistines the moabites we have Syria, we have
- 15:48amalek Edom. Geographically, where do you
- 15:52think these enemies were placed? On all sides.
- 15:57West-east north-south, they are surrounding David.
- 16:03And yet David Is Able by the enabling grace of God to
- 16:06overcome all of them and we sang it, right?
- 16:10And one song that this is a prophetic picture of the son of
- 16:14David, who will come and Rule and Conquer every corner of the
- 16:18earth and he will inherit the nation's and he will subdue all
- 16:24of his enemies. And a total A knot in a
- 16:28partially like David but in a complete way and so we're almost
- 16:32getting just a taste of what's to come.
- 16:34What we are anticipating for the physical Rule, and reign of
- 16:38Jesus Christ, who will actually bring Kings and countries and
- 16:43Nations to their knees and they will adore him, whether they
- 16:47want to or not. But is there more than that?
- 16:52Do we move on just with that? No, I don't think we move on.
- 16:54I think what we do is we look at how David deals with these
- 16:59different enemies and we applied the same way we did with the
- 17:01Book of Joshua. God has made Israel promise
- 17:04concerning their land, that it would require Faith to know what
- 17:08God, purchased for them in a physical sense.
- 17:11Jesus purchased a promise many promises for us and it requires
- 17:17War to be able to know and experience and abide where he
- 17:22wants us to be. And so, with New Covenant
- 17:24lenses, we come to this text and we look at from one point to the
- 17:28next two, different nations and see how this will enrich our
- 17:32understanding of how How We Do Warfare in the spirit.
- 17:35So we look at verse 1 after David defeated the Philistines
- 17:38and subdue them, David took meth agama out of the hand of the
- 17:42Philistines Philistines Ancient Ancient enemy to Israel, are
- 17:47they not? They were persistent aggressors
- 17:51against the people of God ever since the day of judges.
- 17:55And now, when we come to this point, we realize that David is
- 17:58completing what? God raised up Samson to do.
- 18:01God, raised up Sansone to begin to bring deliverance from the
- 18:06Philistines, and it was Saul's job to finish it and he didn't.
- 18:10So David would do it to some degree and so he does show.
- 18:15Interestingly, he goes to meth egg AMA and he takes it out of
- 18:20the hands of the Philistines. This is where you have to do a
- 18:23little extra effort to say, okay what is, is there anything in
- 18:26that name that might help me understand what's going on here.
- 18:28And thankfully, there is something in this name that
- 18:31could help us understand David strategy.
- 18:33Here, meth a gamma simply means mother City.
- 18:38Or Bridle of the mother City. This is a key region for the
- 18:41Philistines. This is an important location,
- 18:45clearly, it had some kind of support system.
- 18:50It's supplied and energized, it, it equipped the rest of the
- 18:56Philistines. And so they really dependent
- 18:57upon that City to either through survive or Thrive.
- 19:01David knew that he didn't waste his time going to other towns
- 19:05before he got there. Because you realize if I don't,
- 19:07if I don't go for the Allure. Then everything around that is
- 19:10just going to continue to be strengthened by methane gamma.
- 19:13So let's just go right for the heart.
- 19:16Let's go for the mother City and then we'll be able to overcome
- 19:19her children, so to speak. And so David, really is coming
- 19:23here with a strategy. He's not coming recklessly is
- 19:25not just coming with wishful thinking.
- 19:28And here's what I present to you based on that Revelation that
- 19:31you and I are called to do the same with our war against sin,
- 19:36we are called to be Tactical. Okay.
- 19:39We are called to be mindful. We are called to be careful.
- 19:44We're not called to just have this desire to overcome sin,
- 19:48it's going to require more than that.
- 19:50There needs to be a sense in which we understand why certain
- 19:54things are happening. Where temptation is coming from
- 19:56how to limit ourselves from influences, that will encourage
- 19:59the impulses of the Flesh. And then to deal with it, right?
- 20:04Unfortunately, many people don't think this way because they
- 20:07don't consider that there is a war going on.
- 20:09Every single day with their flesh.
- 20:11And because of that, they are not wise, nor are they forceful
- 20:14enough to deal with the things of the flesh.
- 20:18If David's attitude is teaching us anything, it's that wishing
- 20:21to be wholly is not enough to be holy, right?
- 20:26Wishful thinking is not going to do it.
- 20:27Your desire to be a godly man or a godly woman is not going to
- 20:31bring you to that place. It's going to require calculated
- 20:36effort while we partner with the spirit of God to get there.
- 20:39Then Jesus give us so many hints and to that kind of mindset.
- 20:43What did he say? Matthew 5:29, and and 30 you'd
- 20:46have to turn there. You know, it very well if your
- 20:47right hand causes you to sin. What do you do tear it out?
- 20:53Tear it out for this better that you lose one of your members and
- 20:57your whole body be thrown into hell.
- 20:58And if your right hand causes you to sin, do the same thing,
- 21:01cut it off, tear it off, throw it away because it's better to
- 21:05have one less member of your body then to have all of it and
- 21:08to be thrown into hell. It's Jesus encouraging literal
- 21:11mutilation of the flesh. For Holiness as a means of
- 21:16Holiness, know some people over history did think so.
- 21:22This is a figurative way of trying to illustrate a powerful
- 21:25point in terms of practical Holiness.
- 21:27Okay? Anybody here want to sell one of
- 21:29your eyes for a billion dollars? No, you cherish your vision,
- 21:33don't you? You won't even.
- 21:35Give up one of your eyes. You want to give up half of your
- 21:37one eye. You cherish your eyes, you
- 21:40cherish your ability to see you, cherish your Mobility, your
- 21:43agility, the the the design that God is giving it to be able to
- 21:47do maximum movement and strength.
- 21:50You want to give up your right hand for anything.
- 21:52And yet Jesus, here is using the things that we prize and cherish
- 21:55on a day-to-day basis to say, even the most valuable things
- 21:58that you hold to in life are worthy to be given up for the
- 22:02sake of preserving your righteousness.
- 22:05And evading sin. It's worth Extreme Measures to
- 22:11cut off things in life with dramatic, desire and force.
- 22:18In order for you to be liberated from anything that would try to
- 22:21drag you into a place that can do damage to your soul.
- 22:25So so even that Jesus is trying to say when you see the very
- 22:30thing that's moving you in a direction that you don't want to
- 22:32go deal with it. Notice it study, it realized, I
- 22:36understand who you are, right? Look At yourself, look at your
- 22:39patterns. Look at your habits.
- 22:41Is there anything that is inspiring you to be less in love
- 22:45with the Lord. Will kill it.
- 22:47Go for that and I think because of this, this lack of desire and
- 22:53seriousness is causing people to have just prolonged unnecessary
- 22:58battles for years, right? Because they're dealing with the
- 23:02fruit. They're not getting to the root.
- 23:05they're just again just wishful thinking and they're waiting for
- 23:08the next convicting sermon to make them cry to inspire them
- 23:12long enough to last for tomorrow, by lunchtime ain't
- 23:15going to work There's got to be, there's got to come a time,
- 23:19where you sit down, look at your life, examine your life.
- 23:21Seeing where is, where are things going wrong here?
- 23:25Am I lazy? And am I just careless?
- 23:27What I put before my eyes. What's going on for me?
- 23:30Not gaining strength, spiritually.
- 23:32And in Jesus, once you identify it, take it out.
- 23:38And I'm sure. David here is inspiring Us in
- 23:42that sense calls for a mindfulness of the elements.
- 23:45I would encourage us. It calls for us to look at the,
- 23:49the lifelines of things that are keeping us away from fullness in
- 23:53Christ and then going for it, dealing with it.
- 23:58By the way, this is going to be surface-level things as we touch
- 24:01on each of these different nations.
- 24:02So now we come to the moabites in verse 2 and he defeated Moab
- 24:07and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on
- 24:09the ground, two lines, he measured to be put to death and
- 24:12one full line to be spared and the moabites became servants to
- 24:15David and brought tribute. unlike the Philistines, the
- 24:18nation of Moab was not always an enemy to David, How do we know
- 24:23that? What, what's one instance, that
- 24:24we know that David's relationship with Moab is a
- 24:27little bit more complicated? It's not clearly defined like
- 24:30the Philistines, okay, Ruth? Yeah.
- 24:33But more than that, something happened during David's life.
- 24:39Exactly. When David was initially an
- 24:42exile and fleeing from Saul's murderous plot, he entrusted his
- 24:46parents into the hands of the king of Moab remember that.
- 24:49And he has to please take care of Mom and Dad, and the
- 24:53reasoning for that is as we heard David, had some Mo B blood
- 24:57in him. And I'm sure the moabites knew
- 24:59that about David as well, for them to be willing to open their
- 25:02doors for David to have his parents come and stay with them.
- 25:06But what David experience with Marvin and David's history with
- 25:09mob is not the same as Israel's history with Moab because mob,
- 25:15as long as Israel was a nation harassed, the people of God and
- 25:21severe ways. What are the two most prominent
- 25:24ways? Notorious ways?
- 25:25That Moab proved to be an enemy to the nation of Israel?
- 25:31What's that? Yeah, they worship false gods
- 25:33but directly with the nation of Israel.
- 25:35What did they do? okay, so there is that where
- 25:42they try to pass through Moab, which is just before the Border
- 25:45going into the nation of Israel, but even before that What did
- 25:51what did the moabites do? Okay, think think Wilderness
- 26:00Journey. Okay, that's one.
- 26:04But there's something even before that, we'll get to that
- 26:06one in a moment. Numbers numbers numbers, numbers
- 26:10numbers, who curse or tried to curse the Israelites, huh,
- 26:15Balaam? The king of Moab hired.
- 26:19Balaam curse this nation. They're going to devour us.
- 26:23They're going to take over us and so the king of more
- 26:26attempted to actually curse the people of God, it didn't work.
- 26:30So then, what did they do? Numbers 25, the moabites took
- 26:34their beautiful woman and have him strut through the camp of
- 26:38Israel and tempted, the men and the men were seduced.
- 26:42And they begin to not just physically, but spiritually, be
- 26:44seduced to worship false gods. And it caused havoc.
- 26:49And that's when Finn, he's got up and he dealt with the
- 26:51compromise, remember that? That's the history between Moab
- 26:55and Israel. And David here though, he has a
- 27:00different kind of relationship chooses to attack Moab, even
- 27:03though they were gracious to him on a personal level.
- 27:05Why? Why is that happening?
- 27:11Something must have happened between David being shown favor,
- 27:15from the moabites to take care of his parents and David,
- 27:20becoming King. Here's the thing.
- 27:22We have no idea. We have no idea what happened
- 27:26and so there's speculation, right?
- 27:28And ancient commentators to this more Jewish commentators, Jewish
- 27:33commentators. A lot of times they love
- 27:35bringing commentaries based on speculation.
- 27:37Here's what some would say. Well, the moabites eventually
- 27:41killed. David's parents.
- 27:43And so David wants to take revenge upon the moabites we but
- 27:46that's not told anywhere in the scripture.
- 27:49So, I don't want to complicate, and I don't want to rely on just
- 27:52guessing what happened, but I think what we can say here is
- 27:55that mob clearly committed to their hatred for the nation of
- 28:01Israel, whether or not David was King, they didn't care if David
- 28:03was King. If he was the assistant to the
- 28:05king even after David became king, they showed themselves to
- 28:09be enemies of Israel still. And because David was King, he
- 28:13had a duty He had a duty to protect the people of God and to
- 28:19fulfill his role. As a king, you're going to touch
- 28:21the apple of God's eye. I'm going to have to deal with
- 28:23you. So he attacks the moabites and
- 28:25he goes to war against them. He had a choice to make.
- 28:29Listen, it's a choice that every single one of us has to make in
- 28:32this life. And you know what it is.
- 28:34It's simple if our duty and our allegiance to God, Will take
- 28:39precedence over our preferences in our priorities, in this life.
- 28:43Every single one of us has to make that choice.
- 28:45David had to make the difficult choice.
- 28:48I have mobile blood in me, but because the Mo B hate, my God,
- 28:54they hate his word hate. His people, hate his promises
- 28:58trying to thwart the promises. I have to stand against the
- 29:02moabites. None of us in here are even
- 29:06worthy to be a disciple if you don't hate your mother and your
- 29:12father, your brother, your sister, your wife.
- 29:13Yes. Even your own children.
- 29:14Yes. Even your own life.
- 29:16Hate actual hate. Remember, we were at a
- 29:19conference and a friend share that and the pastor's son.
- 29:21Lifted his hand. He says, am I supposed to hate
- 29:23my dad? Are you were gonna get in
- 29:24trouble? Now as Pastor son, as his
- 29:26question, not literal hate. but, Your love for God should so
- 29:33outshine. Every single love that you have
- 29:34in this life you should make it look like hate.
- 29:37That's what that's what Jesus is trying to imply in terms of
- 29:40preference of Allegiance. And you have to make that
- 29:43choice. We have to all make that choice.
- 29:45And if we can't determine in our hearts, Lord, I will go where
- 29:48you want me to go. Even if my wife doesn't go, even
- 29:51if my cousins. Even if my children don't want
- 29:53to go, I will obey. I will be faithful by your
- 29:55grace. You're not even worthy to be a
- 29:57disciple. That is how beautiful and worthy
- 30:01and infinitely glorious. He is that the closest
- 30:04relationships to you are nothing in light of your love for him.
- 30:09now, once we walk with him though we do fulfill a
- 30:11responsibility to those who are in our lives, whether they are
- 30:15saved or unsaved but when it comes to making a choice of
- 30:18obeying God or pleasing your family or holding on to
- 30:23traditional cultures that have been passed down for centuries,
- 30:27Or relationships that have provided so much for your life.
- 30:30But at the same time, hate the cross.
- 30:33And hate the grace of God, you have to make a choice.
- 30:36And I have to make a choice, David made a difficult choice,
- 30:39but it didn't seem that. He showed much hesitation, let's
- 30:42go to verse 3. David also defeated.
- 30:45Now we come to the third Nation had that, as ER, the son of her
- 30:48hope king of Zorba, we don't know much about Zorba.
- 30:52But all we know up to this point is that David has dealt with his
- 30:54enemies from the West. The Philistines, he's dealt with
- 30:57his enemies from the East, the moabites.
- 31:00Now he's going north Now, he's going to fight against the
- 31:03syrians and Zaba are syrians. There are part of A Confederacy
- 31:08of other syrians. There's many kings in Syria's,
- 31:11Oba is one region, had advisors the king of Zaba and David is
- 31:15choosing to go to war with them. And verse 3, really piqued my
- 31:20interest when I looked at it. As he went to restore his power
- 31:26at the river, Euphrates. If you want to take the time to
- 31:33look at where the river Euphrates is and Northbound.
- 31:37It's like deep. It's like in Syria.
- 31:39It's far up there. and so, when I read this, at first, I thought
- 31:44to myself is David stepping out of bounds Of the promised land
- 31:51to try to occupy that which the Lord did not Grant him.
- 31:53That was my question. When I read that verse, does
- 31:56anybody know the answer to that question?
- 31:58Is David going out of bounds? He's not, why isn't he?
- 32:08Very good. Do you remember the reference?
- 32:16No, not before before Deuteronomy for before Joshua
- 32:19Genesis, do you want to know how David is actually in obedience?
- 32:23Go to Genesis 15:18? Look What the Lord said to
- 32:26Abraham in Genesis 15:18. This was the initial Covenant
- 32:30that God made with Abraham concerning the land.
- 32:34And the land is much larger than what your imagination, conjures
- 32:37up. When you think of the promised
- 32:38land on that day, the Lord made a covenant with Abram before
- 32:43Abraham became Abraham saying to your Offspring.
- 32:46I I give this land from the river of Egypt.
- 32:51That's pretty South. To the Great River.
- 32:54The river Euphrates. Interesting.
- 33:01According to promise, God's promise to Abraham.
- 33:03You know what David is doing. He's believing the Lord about
- 33:06what was given to Israel to begin with and David.
- 33:09As long as he had the authority, and the power wanted to know the
- 33:12full measure of God's will. He wanted to know the greatest
- 33:20extent of what God had assured, the nation of Israel.
- 33:25And when I looked at this, I thought the reach of David's
- 33:28military campaign is an inspiration to the believer in
- 33:34their eagerness to know, all to stretch your soul to know all
- 33:41that some. But all that the Lord Jesus
- 33:44Christ has purchased. In terms of your inheritance
- 33:47spiritually, I want to know everything that Jesus has for me
- 33:51in this life and it's so strange because you have so many
- 33:54believers who are Content withdrawing their little
- 33:57boundaries and to live and just a corner of the will of God.
- 34:03And not say, I want to expand to exhibit to everything that the
- 34:06Lord purchased with his blood and deposit it in my Heart by
- 34:10the spirit. And I don't know why that is.
- 34:13But it is, God has so much more territory for you.
- 34:16And I to occupy, but the very same thing that it required
- 34:19Joshua to know and what required David to know is the same thing
- 34:23that you and I need to tap into two.
- 34:25I even know the beginnings of these things faith.
- 34:30Faith. You need to believe the Lord.
- 34:33You need to believe the Lord. And that's why partly why I
- 34:35encourage you. Look at the promises of God and
- 34:39ask yourself, is this something that I can hold on to?
- 34:41His is something I really believe in my life?
- 34:46And because, you know what, you have Christians, you ask them.
- 34:48Well, what are the promises that Jesus purchased?
- 34:51Will he forgive me of my sins for all for all of you?
- 34:53That's wonderful. That's great.
- 34:54You have eternal life. That's the foundation and yet
- 34:57they're Limited in that, understand it, they don't know
- 34:59what else. What else, the Lord in his?
- 35:01Will he signed off on and gave and put into your hands that you
- 35:05can take to the bank and say this is mine and I want to know
- 35:10it. Can I give you an example?
- 35:14First Thessalonians 5, 16 to 18, you don't have to turn there if
- 35:17you want to you can. This is what I'm trying to talk
- 35:19about Rejoice always. Pay attention Rejoice always
- 35:25pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances
- 35:30for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
- 35:36Now, we took that and we put on T-shirts, We took that and we
- 35:40put it on a nice writing font and we put it on a wall
- 35:44somewhere. I want to know what in my life.
- 35:47You know what? I take from that verse those two
- 35:49verses Rejoice always pray, without ceasing give, thanks in
- 35:54all circumstances because of the will of Jesus Christ.
- 35:58I can no Perpetual uninterrupted.
- 36:02Joy communion with God and gratitude in all things.
- 36:07Now, either we're satisfied to put it on it.
- 36:09T-shirt and wear it at a conference or drink it out of
- 36:13our coffee or coffee cup. Whatever.
- 36:15Or we can say Lord, if this is what you purchased it this is
- 36:19your will I want to know it? Take me there.
- 36:24Empower me to know continual Joy, continual communion with
- 36:28you unending. Gratitude unto you.
- 36:32This is what I'm trying to say. I hope this is coming off clear
- 36:35here. That is experiential, theology.
- 36:39that's something that you and I can actually tap into But if you
- 36:44require Faith the same way that it required faith for Joshua to
- 36:47get in and David to go beyond all the way to the border and to
- 36:52live in abide where God had brought him for you.
- 36:55And I are not going to grow much in the Lord you and I are not
- 36:59going to grow much in the Lord. You know, it's amazing.
- 37:01When you look at This is all over the scripture and this is a
- 37:05verse that many mostly Prosperity preachers have taken
- 37:08out of context, but I want to read it to you and 3, John
- 37:13third, John, third Epistle of John, verse 2.
- 37:15It's a greeting that he gives to Gaius and John says, beloved.
- 37:19I pray that it all may go well with you and that you may be in
- 37:24good health as it goes well with your soul other translations,
- 37:28actually, most word-for-word translations, don't say may go
- 37:32well with you. What would he say?
- 37:33Say Scott. That you may Prosper.
- 37:39That's when the prosperity preacher.
- 37:40See God wants you to prosper and all things and in your health
- 37:45and the focus is on the wrong thing.
- 37:48What John is saying to Gaius is I want everything in your life
- 37:53to be as prosperous as your soul is.
- 38:00Ask yourself this question if my physical health. if there is a
- 38:06reverse of the take place that my spiritual health was to
- 38:09replace my physical health, how healthy would actually be That's
- 38:13a good question, isn't it? Would my physical world be
- 38:18prosperous if the prosperity of my soul were to translate into
- 38:24that and that a wonderful question.
- 38:27There are a lot of people who might be prospering physically
- 38:30prospering in this, prospering even in health.
- 38:32But their soul is all shriveled up and their spiritual
- 38:35skeletons. But what that also shows me is
- 38:39that God Longs for our souls to prosper that our walk with him.
- 38:43And all the spiritual blessings would overflow.
- 38:47We just overflow. That's what he desires for us.
- 38:49But yet many Believers, John, wouldn't able to say that to
- 38:52them? And that's a sad place to be.
- 38:56And part of the reason why is because like Zaba there are
- 38:59obstacles in our way, there's an enemy who doesn't want us to
- 39:01prosper in such a way and we have to be willing to say,
- 39:05whatever the flesh tries to do all the fears and seductions.
- 39:09I'm willing to go against it just like David did with this
- 39:12faux so that I can be where God wants me to be.
- 39:16And so, let me give an example. How that looks, I look at
- 39:18Rejoice, always, pray, without ceasing give, thanks in all
- 39:20circumstances and I pray it, I pray those verses.
- 39:24I said, Lord, either your Trading.
- 39:26Here are my faith is not great. Either either, this is not true,
- 39:32it's just poetic license or I'm satisfied in something less than
- 39:37what you are bringing here before me.
- 39:39And this text I want to be one who can always Rejoice.
- 39:43I want to be able to walk day by day with all that I have to do
- 39:46and still have my heart connected with you.
- 39:49I want to be able to genuinely give, thanks in all
- 39:51circumstances. Even if my health is not
- 39:54prospering, even if things are falling apart, I want my soul to
- 39:57prosper. Brothers and sisters be inspired
- 40:00to walk in that. Don't settle for anything less
- 40:03the Lord made a great purchase for it.
- 40:05Now, notice what I was David did in verse 4 of second Samuel 8
- 40:09and David took from him at Seventeen hundred Horsemen
- 40:1120,000 foot soldiers and David hamstrung all the Chariot horses
- 40:16but left enough for a hundred chariots.
- 40:17Why is that important detail? So in other words, he took all
- 40:20the Chariots of Zorba and he slit the back of their legs, the
- 40:24horses. So they would be unable to Even
- 40:27move. Insignificant detail.
- 40:33No. Do you know why the Bible is
- 40:37telling us that David did this? Because the Holy Spirit wants to
- 40:39show us that David meticulously obeyed the law of God as a king
- 40:44ring, a bell. Ring a bell.
- 40:48No. Okay.
- 40:50Where was probably the most explicit set of commands that
- 40:55God had given for the nation of Israel concerning their kings.
- 41:01Deuteronomy chapter 17, remember that you're not supposed to have
- 41:05many wives, That's what's required, much gold or silver
- 41:09and there was another one You remember now, right Deuteronomy
- 41:1217. 16 this was a law for kings and in Deuteronomy 17, 16 only
- 41:18he must not acquire many horses. For himself or caused the people
- 41:25to return to Egypt. In order to acquire many horses
- 41:28since the Lord has said to you, you shall never return that way
- 41:31again. David is obeying that law when
- 41:34he comes to his Oba and he kills these horses, He is trying to
- 41:39avoid which is encouraging and disappointed the same time
- 41:42because when it came to the not acquiring many wives, he seemed
- 41:45to just ignore that verse. I don't know why but he did and
- 41:48it's really speaks about our willingness to pick and choose
- 41:51things that we like. And that we favor David is
- 41:54obeying God in this way in this aspect.
- 41:56He is why did God give this command to the Kings?
- 42:05Exactly Psalm 20 verse 7. You don't have to turn there but
- 42:08it just a reference David said some trust in chariots.
- 42:12Some trust in horses. But we will trust in the name of
- 42:16the Lord. David understood the principle
- 42:20of this restrictive. Command.
- 42:21Don't acquire many horses because I don't want you to
- 42:24become overly dependent upon your military strength, namely
- 42:28this advanced technology of the day these chariots I don't want
- 42:32you to rely on that. I want you at all times to rely
- 42:35on me. So so reserve the Temptation by
- 42:39removing yourself from acquiring.
- 42:41These things and remain in the place of dependency on me.
- 42:46Now that's specific to Kings but the principle is the same for
- 42:49all of us today especially in a day where things are very
- 42:52unstable, right? And and the Temptation part of
- 42:56spiritual warfare is for the enemy, to try to lure, you to
- 43:01place, your trust in something. Other than God, it could be a
- 43:03person. It can be a set of possessions.
- 43:06It can be politics, that's part of spiritual warfare because the
- 43:09moment, we place our faith in something else to provide to
- 43:14empower We dishonor God and we cut off the the blessings that
- 43:21come through the channel of Faith.
- 43:23So it's a wonderful strategy on his part.
- 43:26And so be careful. Believer.
- 43:29Where does your rest come from in your mind?
- 43:32Where's your emphasis in this time of history?
- 43:34Is that money? Is that weapons?
- 43:38Is it possessions? What is it?
- 43:42Now it would be unwise to say that.
- 43:45We're so Heavenly minded were floating through this world and
- 43:47we don't touch anything on Earth.
- 43:49He didn't say don't acquire horses, completely, not many
- 43:51horses important. In other words, don't let the
- 43:55weight of your trust fall into these things.
- 43:58But in all things, keep your eyes on me and realize that I'm
- 44:02the very thing that can take care of the very limited things
- 44:04that you have and move you where exactly you need to be that's
- 44:07the attitude of the believer. And so you and I have to
- 44:10understand that though this was for Kings as Sons and Daughters
- 44:14of the king is still true for us as well.
- 44:17And David understood that he obeyed.
- 44:20And he moved forward. Now, let's come to verse 5.
- 44:26Verse 5, he deals with the syrians, right?
- 44:29And when the syrians of Damascus came to help out at had as their
- 44:32king of Zaba. David struck, 22,000 of them.
- 44:35The connection between David's Warfare with the syrians, has to
- 44:38do with the syrians in Alliance with Joe Buck tried to help them
- 44:44and David's like bad move and he kills them.
- 44:46Now I'm not going to elaborate on that because it's going to
- 44:48complement the next, the next nation that he deals with.
- 44:52So let's just move to verse 9. Out of all the list of enemies.
- 44:58This one stands out the most. Tall.
- 45:01I king of hamath heard that David had defeated the whole
- 45:04Army of had it as her. And what does he do?
- 45:07He sent his son. Joe.
- 45:08I'm the king of the tooth King David to ask about his health
- 45:12and to bless him because he fought against had it as, ER,
- 45:15and defeated him. The reason why this king is
- 45:17unique, why? Because there's no Warfare here,
- 45:21there's no battle. There's no retaliation.
- 45:26Toy realizes, Who David is what he's capable of doing?
- 45:31And he pledges his allegiance to him by expressing gratitude, and
- 45:36a desire for Peace by supplying these resources.
- 45:42Wise man. Very wise man.
- 45:45And he possesses a wisdom that many Unfortunately today, lack
- 45:49to their own detriment. And the wisdom that he had was
- 45:51the ability to recognize that no one can resist God's program.
- 45:56That's what he realized. No one can resist God's purposes
- 46:00on the earth, so I will surrender.
- 46:02Now, I'm not going to be as silly as the syrians who thought
- 46:09that they can actually put up a fight against the anointed one.
- 46:13The foolishness of the syrians as we just read was that after
- 46:16seeing how did Ezra fall apart and seeing that their
- 46:21Confederacy was week, instead of falling on their face, he puts
- 46:26up a fight and he still is Williams to actually resist
- 46:30something that is in conquerable.
- 46:34That is a picture of the stubbornness of Sinners today,
- 46:37right? They see how the world does.
- 46:39In fact, fail them how their their plans, their ideas, leave
- 46:43them dry, and always lie to them.
- 46:46And yet still, they're willing to fight against the truth and
- 46:51they're willing to put their hand up against the Lord say, I
- 46:54want nothing to do with you. You are my enemy.
- 46:59And what they will realize is, they should have done what this
- 47:02King did. Two, why didn't necessarily give
- 47:06himself over to David out of fear?
- 47:10The motivating factor was that he saw, what David was able to
- 47:13do against his enemy. How did Heather was told eyes
- 47:17enemy and he saw what he was able to do and he goes It's
- 47:23incredible. You are the true king.
- 47:26No one can actually come close to what you're capable of doing.
- 47:31You were able to solve what I had a lifetime to deal with.
- 47:35Take it all, that's what he's doing here.
- 47:39How much more, right? Look at verse 9.
- 47:42When he heard that David had defeated a whole Army.
- 47:46When he heard that news, his heart was stirred to joyfully
- 47:51surrender to King David, okay? That is a gospel.
- 47:57Truth tucked into a war archive in the Old Testament.
- 48:02That when the World Hears that the son of David in the person
- 48:07of Jesus Christ has defeated the enemy of all of humanity,
- 48:11namely, the king of Terrors death, the appropriate response
- 48:16is this, there is no one like you.
- 48:19You have the power to overcome sin and the grave.
- 48:23You have my allegiance. Take all that.
- 48:26I have it belongs to you. I want to be at peace with the
- 48:30Prince of Peace. And so he does surrender out of
- 48:34a joy and an understanding in a revelation that he is good, and
- 48:40he is powerful, and he is able to subdue that which seems
- 48:44impossible to us. That is the drawing power of the
- 48:47Gospel. That is, it's not just you, you
- 48:51want to go to hell, get out of hell here, part of it, part of
- 48:55it, some do need to escape with fear from the Flames.
- 48:58That's what Jew tells us. But generally it's the goodness
- 49:02of God. That leads us to repentance.
- 49:04It's when we realize that we are sick and broken and defeated and
- 49:07here's the great physician who comes to put his foot on the
- 49:11neck that seems to have their hand on our neck.
- 49:14And people say, I want to worship this King, I want to
- 49:18give tribute to this King and it says he blessed David.
- 49:23And we should bless the Lord. All the days of her life.
- 49:27Look at verse 11 and 12 quickly. We're almost there.
- 49:30These also King David dedicated to the Lord, And then verse 12,
- 49:35we read from Edom, Moab the ammonites the Philistines
- 49:38amalek. and from the spoil of had it, as of the sun, Ivory
- 49:43hope, king of Zorba, we know enough about amalek To
- 49:47comprehend how significant this is right.
- 49:51Another ancient enemy to the people of Israel, but more
- 49:54importantly, David's predecessor failed to do what David did here
- 50:00and that was to subdue amalek. And to have dominion over this
- 50:05enemy. And when you look at him like
- 50:09listed here, you have to understand.
- 50:14That there is something. To say in light of Believers
- 50:19comparably. What do I mean by that?
- 50:21You have two kings David and Saul who serve the same God And
- 50:26went up against the same. Enemy with two totally different
- 50:29outcomes in life. Right.
- 50:32Two kings. Same God, same enemy to
- 50:37different outcomes. In fact, do you want to know how
- 50:39close? Saul had it to David's life
- 50:41quickly stopped there? But go.
- 50:42To First Samuel 14. I want you to see some.
- 50:45It's quite amazing first. Samuel 14 and look at verse 47.
- 50:51This is, this is Saul's catalog of the enemies that he went up
- 50:56against, you're going to notice something.
- 51:00In 1st, Samuel 1447. When saw had taken the kingship
- 51:06over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side,
- 51:09every side, right against Moab against the ammonites against
- 51:14Edom, against the kings of soba, and against the Philistines.
- 51:17Wherever he turned here out of them, are those the same?
- 51:20Are they not the same? They're the same.
- 51:23So, let's not get into this. David had it easier.
- 51:25David hat was more of a warrior than same enemies.
- 51:29Same God, same promises. Same assignment.
- 51:35Different outcomes. You can have two Believers
- 51:40professing Christians born again at the same time they have the
- 51:45same Bible. They come to the same church.
- 51:48They hear the same teaching. They have the same devil to
- 51:53fight against their living in the same corrupt World in
- 51:56journeying through it. They have the same Holy Spirit
- 51:59and yet two different outcomes throughout the years.
- 52:03Not true. It is true, right?
- 52:06It is true. What's the difference?
- 52:10Was amalek stronger with Saul weaker, would know.
- 52:15David had a hunger, a faith, a drive, a humility.
- 52:21That opened his life up to less tragedy and more treasure in
- 52:26God, Saul clogged. Self-absorbed.
- 52:33So busy fighting with his own Brethren.
- 52:36He had little to no strength and mindfulness to fight against his
- 52:40real enemy. And the trajectory of his life
- 52:43was a disaster. He exited this world in a
- 52:46humiliating way and it's nobody's fault except Sol's.
- 52:54And I think when I look at this, as I read it even during the
- 52:58break, you can have the same congregation.
- 53:00They hear the same sermons. They have access to the elders
- 53:04in the same way. They have the same loving,
- 53:07family and yet. Over the years, two different
- 53:11directions. Guess whose fault.
- 53:14I say this in love. Not your leaders.
- 53:16Do they have responsibility? Not God.
- 53:18Not because you have a different Bible.
- 53:20It's yours. You can have as much of God as
- 53:23you want. You can actually grow from glory
- 53:26to glory. But you have to make that
- 53:29choice. And that's what I take from
- 53:31this. David was able to overcome
- 53:33amalek when Saul couldn't, and it's not because David had
- 53:36something special. The only thing you had was a
- 53:38heart that was split open and Brokenness before the Lord day
- 53:41by day. That's it.
- 53:44That's it. Now, we come to the final enemy.
- 53:50verse 13 and 14 David made a name for himself when he
- 53:53returned from striking down 18,000 edomites in the valley of
- 53:57salt Then he put Garrison's and Edom through all eat him, he put
- 54:02garrisons and all the edomites became David's servants and the
- 54:05lord gave Victory to David wherever he went, who's Edom.
- 54:09Yeah, he's so who's Esau? Jacob's brother, twin brothers.
- 54:18And Esau unfortunately though he was a brother to Jacob
- 54:22throughout the generations, only grew in bitterness instead of
- 54:25Brotherhood. Esau Eden was known for his
- 54:29pride, the prophets revealed that and that was really, his
- 54:31downfall, his arrogance. And Edom was a little cruel, not
- 54:34little, but actually cruel to Jacob because he was one of
- 54:37those areas when the the the ones that came out of Exile,
- 54:41want to pass through eating said, no way brothers and no
- 54:44way. When we come here at this point,
- 54:48it seems as though Edom, the reason why David goes to war
- 54:50with Edom, you get a hint of why when you go to Psalm 16 you'd
- 54:54have to turn there, you can read that on your own.
- 54:56You get the impression that the edomites had the boldness to
- 55:01actually occupy, what was promised to the sons of Jacob at
- 55:05least in part. And so now they are, they're
- 55:08trying to take up the regions that really Esau gave up to
- 55:13Jacob. Remember he sold it all for a
- 55:16bowl of Of soup. He despised his Birthright.
- 55:21Jacob later, deceived him in terms of the father's blessing.
- 55:25And Jacob is enjoying what God gave to him, Esau?
- 55:29Perhaps because of that history, is looking at what Jacob is
- 55:34enjoying and is now Crossing his own lines.
- 55:39And David has a duty to protect what God had promised.
- 55:42So he goes to war with Edom but what stands out from verse 14 is
- 55:47the garrisons. He sets up Garrison's in Edom
- 55:50but not just in Edom throughout all Edom.
- 55:52So he plants these posts throughout where Edom was For
- 55:58what purpose, what did Garrison's do?
- 56:02And idea, what's the purpose of them?
- 56:07Garrison's are really post with soldiers in it.
- 56:09That's all they are. And for David to do this is for
- 56:13his men to monitor supervise and ensure that there's no Revolt
- 56:19that there's no Revival among the edomites to try to overthrow
- 56:22David again and it keeps them in.
- 56:25Check When it came to the edomites, David felt because he
- 56:29was a master military genius. He knew that there was something
- 56:34about the attitude and there was a feistiness with the edomites
- 56:38that I have to plant my men in this region to keep watch on
- 56:43them less, they turn around in a moment's time.
- 56:46And we have a big issue on our hands.
- 56:49The principal here in light of our spiritual warfare is the
- 56:52call to watchfulness. It's the call to be aware and
- 56:58alert, not just when you are are dealing with temptation.
- 57:03You should be awake long before that, but even in times where
- 57:06you feel like you're on cloud nine spiritually.
- 57:10And to understand that, even though you might be enjoying,
- 57:13what seems to be Rejoice. Always pray without ceasing
- 57:16give, thanks in all circumstances.
- 57:18Nothing can touch me. Nothing, can bring me down.
- 57:20Even in those moments spiritually speaking.
- 57:23Am I on guard? Because you have to be at all
- 57:25times again. You have many Christians who
- 57:29with the Philistines, they look at their sin, they're defeated.
- 57:32And they come to church, and they come to talk to the
- 57:34brothers. As, you know, I just it's
- 57:36another day. I'm just struggling.
- 57:37Pray for you. Don't really want to be set
- 57:38free. It's clear.
- 57:39It's obvious, right? But then you also have another
- 57:42danger where somebody might be walking in growth and hunger of
- 57:46the things of God, but they are not also.
- 57:51In the place of strategy. And alertness and surveillance.
- 57:58And that's a dangerous place to be as well.
- 58:01And let me show you a verse and I think it's a wonderful place
- 58:03to end. It's not in third, John, it's in
- 58:062nd John and it's in one verse and I think this is this is a
- 58:10verse that I cherish in the category of my mind of warnings
- 58:16of the Bible. Warnings are good, right?
- 58:19Love warns. Some people say, love wins.
- 58:22Have you heard of it? No, good.
- 58:24Good love wins. There's no hell love wins.
- 58:28Yeah, love wins. Love warns.
- 58:32Love warns and into John 8. Pastor, John has a warning for
- 58:37his readers. I like the way the ESV puts it.
- 58:41What are the first? Two words?
- 58:44Watch yourselves. Watch who Satan watch?
- 58:50What your algorithm on tick-tock?
- 58:56Watch yourselves, watch yourselves.
- 59:01Why? So that you may not lose what we
- 59:02have worked for. You know why?
- 59:05David said of Garrison's? He didn't want to lose what he
- 59:07worked for. Bo may win a full reward.
- 59:15You have some Believers that want to just like yes sneak into
- 59:18the gates. And you have other believers and
- 59:22I believe, God wants every believer to come in.
- 59:26Expecting a full reward. I don't want to go in with smoke
- 59:33on my white garments because everything I did for the Lord
- 59:35came to Ash when it was tested Through Fire.
- 59:41I want to have something to bring to his feet.
- 59:44At the end of it all you know what it's going to require watch
- 59:48yourself, watch yourself. Watch yourself Timothy, keep a
- 59:54close watch on your life, and your Doctrine, your life first,
- 59:59and your Doctrine. Hey, if you're in this place and
- 1:00:02you feel called to the ministry, you don't want Ministry.
- 1:00:03Really is. Do you want to know what
- 1:00:05full-time Ministry is? I'll give you a hint.
- 1:00:06It's a very if there's like a summary statement.
- 1:00:08Is this ministry is the extension of your personal life.
- 1:00:13If I'm not real in real life, that what am I doing?
- 1:00:15Is a waste of time, right? Ministry is just an extension of
- 1:00:19your life, being put on display as example to others.
- 1:00:24Watch yourself. What does that mean?
- 1:00:27Let's end by conversation. How do you watch yourself?
- 1:00:34Meditate day and night helps and the word be rude in The Witcher.
- 1:00:39How do I watch myself? Pride.
- 1:00:43Sure of Prides their but practically speaking.
- 1:00:46What do I do to ensure that I am continually on watch Beautiful.
- 1:00:52Measure your life in light of scripture.
- 1:00:54Don't compare it to the other guy that's struggling all the
- 1:00:56time, you're not going to get very far.
- 1:01:00Who am I surrounded with? Who am I surrounded with?
- 1:01:05Watch yourself, you know? Another way I watch myself I
- 1:01:08always watch. My affections.
- 1:01:14I always check Daniel. Where is your where are your
- 1:01:20affections for the things of God.
- 1:01:23I always check myself and my am I starting to get more excited
- 1:01:27more, passionate more consumed with trivial things or am I
- 1:01:31growing and becoming warmer and warmer to the things of the
- 1:01:35spirit. I always that's how I always
- 1:01:38watch myself. Watch - you know, another way.
- 1:01:43This is just hopefully this helps.
- 1:01:45I watch How I spend my time. I watch How I spend my time, I
- 1:01:49look at my day-to-day schedule and from time to time, I do some
- 1:01:52inventory. And I think to myself how much
- 1:01:55time was I on this and how much time did I give to this?
- 1:02:01The whole week and I actually, I watch myself you saying brother,
- 1:02:04is that a way to live? It's a beautiful way to live.
- 1:02:07It's a beautiful way to live. If you're walking down, I don't
- 1:02:11know why you would be there by on the south side of Chicago.
- 1:02:13Are you going to watch yourself? You're going to watch your
- 1:02:15environment, you just going to stick around on your phone and
- 1:02:17look around. No, you're going to watch,
- 1:02:18you're going to be on alert. And this world is a terrible
- 1:02:22place. It's filled with evil and
- 1:02:24Temptation and deception. Watch yourself.
- 1:02:27Watch yourself. Here's your assignment.
- 1:02:28It's a very short one saying, when did we do assignments?
- 1:02:33From time to time to spontaneous.
- 1:02:37And your little Fellowship, ask yourself and ask others.
- 1:02:40How do you watch yourself? And if you don't do it tonight,
- 1:02:44maybe a part of your fellowship from time to time, I think.
- 1:02:47One way we watch ourselves as our brother said, is we have
- 1:02:52others watch over us? Brother.
- 1:02:55Keep a watch on me. Hold me accountable.
- 1:02:59I said I would end there but let me end it and let me end here
- 1:03:01actually. There are two verses and our
- 1:03:03sister brought up earlier verse 6 and verse 14 and they both say
- 1:03:08the same thing and whenever we see repetition it's because the
- 1:03:10Holy Spirit really wants to make a point clear?
- 1:03:13And here it is at the end of verse 6 and the lord gave
- 1:03:15Victory to David wherever he went verse 14, the same thing at
- 1:03:19the end and the lord gave Victory to David wherever he
- 1:03:21went. What's he trying to say don't be
- 1:03:24too impressed with David. This is God.
- 1:03:26This is God, all that David was able to do is because of God and
- 1:03:30all the things that you just heard watching yourself
- 1:03:33Garrison's. All these things that you all
- 1:03:36these things that seem overwhelming know this God will
- 1:03:39help you. God will help me, God is with us
- 1:03:45and David was so aware of the supplying mercies of the Lord
- 1:03:50that he could not help. But return with praise and
- 1:03:53turned to say, Lord every spoil has your name on it.
- 1:03:58Has your name on it. We can know such a Grace from
- 1:04:02God in our victories, that it would be a means by which we
- 1:04:06worship him. And I hope you believe that,
- 1:04:09I'll be believe that we're in a war.
- 1:04:12I'm happy that I'm in the trenches with you.
- 1:04:16And I hope we can do that for life.
- 1:04:17Let's pray. Lord, we are overwhelmed by the
- 1:04:36gems. that had been uncovered today, we are Moved by how your
- 1:04:46work can speak. with surgical precision and Lord tonight, our
- 1:04:53flesh may be weak, but we long to still give you praise with
- 1:04:57whatever is left and we asked, oh Lord, That you would help us
- 1:05:03know all that you have for us. all the Great Heights and the
- 1:05:09depths, and the breaths that have been made possible because
- 1:05:15of the cross of Jesus Christ, And Lord, when we see those
- 1:05:20commands that seem to be too good to be true.
- 1:05:22Like Rejoice, always pray without ceasing give, thanks in
- 1:05:25all circumstances. May not meet skepticism but
- 1:05:30faith faith in our hearts to say, oh Lord, I want that.
- 1:05:35I want to know what it means to pray for my enemies.
- 1:05:40I want to know what it means to love.
- 1:05:42Those who curse me. Lord, help us know these great
- 1:05:47areas that seem foreign to us but are possible to explore.
- 1:05:53We worship you tonight, as a church in love with your word
- 1:05:57and love with the word. The person of Jesus.
- 1:06:00Amen. Let's stand together and Worship
- 1:06:03the Lord. The person of Jesus.
- 1:06:00Amen. Let's stand together and Worship
- 1:06:03the Lord.
