- 1:34Speaker 1: people comment. Well, I won't say a lot of people,
- 1:37Speaker 1: but there are less people commenting than the amount of
- 1:41Speaker 1: people who watch, you understand. So if you watching this
- 1:48Speaker 1: video and you like YO, you know, I got a few,
- 1:51Speaker 1: put them in a comment section. I read them, you know,

- 2:07Speaker 1: Now we're doing a bonus episode, y'all. I'm going to
- 2:10Speaker 1: be on vacation right now as you're watching this. I'm
- 2:15Speaker 1: already on vacation. I'm not going to Islands or nothing
- 2:20Speaker 1: like that. I just don't have the money, not this time.
- 2:23Speaker 1: But nevertheless, I'm trying to get in a couple of episodes.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And one of the things about this episode in particular
- 2:30Speaker 1: is the fact that this will be the first member exclusive,
- 2:36Speaker 1: limited exclusive that I put out right here on YouTube.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So if you are watching this on YouTube, click the
- 2:44Speaker 1: link right, it's right there on the screen is click
- 2:47Speaker 1: that joint, or you can look at the description of
- 2:50Speaker 1: the episode where I have the link to become a member.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Becoming a member just supports the podcast production to do
- 2:59Speaker 1: new things like four K. I could do four k before,
- 3:03Speaker 1: but it was upscale, but now I could really do
- 3:05Speaker 1: four k, you know, so different things like that, you know,
- 3:11Speaker 1: monthly streaming services, these things they cost money every month
- 3:17Speaker 1: to have access to the tools and also advertisement, you know, equipment,
- 3:23Speaker 1: things like that. So I've done all these different things
- 3:26Speaker 1: with this podcast over time to make it bigger and better,
- 3:29Speaker 1: or at least try to. And you know, it is
- 3:33Speaker 1: what it is. So if you want to support hip
- 3:37Speaker 1: Hop Now podcast memberships, do it today. Now let's get
- 3:44Speaker 1: right into the episode. You saw the title, you saw
- 3:48Speaker 1: the thumb. Now you know what it is. This isn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: a top five, this isn't a definitive top five because
- 3:55Speaker 1: quite honestly, that's a bigger discussion, and who knows, maybe
- 4:00Speaker 1: that's something we'll do somewhere down the line. But nevertheless,
- 4:05Speaker 1: I mean one of the things that I was thinking about,
- 4:10Speaker 1: you know, I was listening to hip hop. I'm one
- 4:12Speaker 1: of those hip hop heads who will go back and
- 4:14Speaker 1: listen to an album I haven't heard in a while,
- 4:17Speaker 1: an artist I haven't heard in a while, because at
- 4:21Speaker 1: some point I was interested in all of it. You
- 4:23Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So one of the things I did,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I was like, you know, it would be a great idea,
- 4:29Speaker 1: just five standout guests versus we all have heard them
- 4:35Speaker 1: throughout hip hop. We could think of a million guests
- 4:37Speaker 1: verses that were crazy, and I mean I mean really
- 4:40Speaker 1: good like not just oh it sounds good like. No,
- 4:45Speaker 1: it's a standout moment on that record as a feature.
- 4:51Speaker 1: So I have five of them, some of you know,
- 4:53Speaker 1: some of them you know, and you know, maybe some
- 4:56Speaker 1: way down the line, I'll do a part two. Also
- 4:59Speaker 1: me share my screen so we could get right into
- 5:02Speaker 1: the mixt of this. The first one I'd like to
- 5:06Speaker 1: share with y'all is off jay Z's The Dynasty album.
- 5:11Speaker 1: It's a song called This Can't Be Life featuring Beanie
- 5:15Speaker 1: Siegull and Scarface. The standout verse for me, it's hands
- 5:21Speaker 1: down Scarface. Now, this was a dope record anyway, right anyway,
- 5:28Speaker 1: Beanie siagules versus Dope, jay Z's versus Dope. But it
- 5:33Speaker 1: was something about Scarface's verse, and I got the lyrics
- 5:36Speaker 1: up here on the screen, you know, for those who
- 5:39Speaker 1: are listening to audio form, I'm gonna read some of
- 5:41Speaker 1: them for you. So this is how Scarface started his
- 5:44Speaker 1: verse right now, as I walk into the studio do
- 5:48Speaker 1: this with Jag, got a phone call from one of
- 5:51Speaker 1: my nigs said, my homeboy Reek he just lost one
- 5:55Speaker 1: of his kids. And when I heard that, I just
- 5:57Speaker 1: broke into tears. And see in the second hand you
- 6:02Speaker 1: don't really know how this is, but when it hits
- 6:04Speaker 1: that close to home, you feel the pain at the crib.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So I called mine and sat at my wife with
- 6:11Speaker 1: the bad news that we both depressed, counting our blessings
- 6:15Speaker 1: because Brad's too. What makeed this verse so dope is
- 6:19Speaker 1: the fact that Scarface said this really happened in the moment,
- 6:23Speaker 1: like it happened as he was going into the studio
- 6:27Speaker 1: to record this record. Somebody say, well, I ain't write
- 6:31Speaker 1: it beforehand. No, he wrote it because of what happened.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So he wrote basically wrote down what happened in that moment,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and it fit this song. You know what I'm saying
- 6:44Speaker 1: to a t this can't be life. You know what
- 6:47Speaker 1: I'm saying. And Brad is his h or is I
- 6:51Speaker 1: don't want to say it was his younger son. And
- 6:56Speaker 1: I like the way he ended it right. I could
- 6:59Speaker 1: have rapped about my hard times on this song. But
- 7:03Speaker 1: Heaven knows, I would have been wrong. It wouldn't have
- 7:06Speaker 1: been right, It wouldn't have been loved, it wouldn't have
- 7:09Speaker 1: been life, It wouldn't have been us. This can't be life,
- 7:13Speaker 1: This can't be life, Yo. That song is like craziest
- 7:17Speaker 1: record right off of the Dynasty album. But again, like
- 7:21Speaker 1: I said, with Scarface, he's just one of them cats
- 7:26Speaker 1: man where he's a true artist. He's a musician also
- 7:29Speaker 1: for those who know know, but he's a true artist, right,
- 7:32Speaker 1: like a dude who thinks this deeply about what he's
- 7:37Speaker 1: going to do. And just the simple fact that he
- 7:41Speaker 1: was able to come into the studio and still perform
- 7:45Speaker 1: with some kind of news like that that obviously affected
- 7:49Speaker 1: him very deeply. Now, the other record that I want
- 7:53Speaker 1: to or the other feature I want to share with y'all,
- 7:58Speaker 1: it's a Scarface record, but the standout verse isn't from
- 8:04Speaker 1: Scarface in my opinion, it's from none other than Tupac.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It's the verse off of the record smile off of
- 8:13Speaker 1: the man. Am I forgetting the album? Hold up? Off
- 8:16Speaker 1: of the Untouchable album? Right now? The video I don't.
- 8:21Speaker 1: I think the album was out already around the time
- 8:25Speaker 1: this dropped, but I think the video for it dropped
- 8:29Speaker 1: after Tupac was killed. So just like Tupac on I
- 8:34Speaker 1: ain't manage your video dropping after he passed away. Smile
- 8:39Speaker 1: dropped also, and it was just aerie because Tupac was
- 8:43Speaker 1: like channeling you know what was going to happen, basically
- 8:48Speaker 1: the future for himself. But here's some of the lyrics
- 8:51Speaker 1: for those again listening. Our lifestyles beat up my bad
- 8:56Speaker 1: because I don't want to rap. I'm trying not to
- 8:58Speaker 1: wrap them. I'm trying to just read them because they're
- 9:01Speaker 1: more effective when you read them. To be honest, our
- 9:04Speaker 1: lifestyles be close capturing, addicted to fatal attractions, pictures of
- 9:09Speaker 1: actions be played back in the midst of mashing. No
- 9:13Speaker 1: fairy tales for this young black male. Some see me
- 9:16Speaker 1: stranded in this land of hell, jail and crack sales.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Hustlers hardly think of culture or the repercussions while busting
- 9:25Speaker 1: on backstabbing vultures, selling my soul for material wishes, fast cards,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and b words because this is a family podcast, wishing
- 9:36Speaker 1: I lived my life a legend immortalized and pictures. Now,
- 9:41Speaker 1: some of you may say or what's that? Well, what's
- 9:45Speaker 1: so crazy about that? But let me finish a little bit,
- 9:47Speaker 1: let me skip ahead to something else. Right, here's a
- 9:49Speaker 1: message to the newborns waiting to breathe. If you believe me,
- 9:53Speaker 1: then you can achieve. Just look at me, against all odds.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Through life is hard. We carry on living in the projects,
- 10:01Speaker 1: broke with no lights on to all the seeds that
- 10:04Speaker 1: follow me. Protect your essence, born with less, but you
- 10:08Speaker 1: still precious. Just smile for me now. So the record essentially,
- 10:14Speaker 1: or Tupac's verse, is really about through everything that's happening,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and he says this in the intro, Right, you gotta
- 10:22Speaker 1: smile no matter what's going on. You have to smile.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And whether your conditions are coming up out of the
- 10:31Speaker 1: ghetto and you know you're stranded what he says, some
- 10:35Speaker 1: see me stranded in his land of hell, jail and
- 10:38Speaker 1: crack sales. Whether that's what's going on with you or
- 10:41Speaker 1: something else. But what stuck out to me wishing I
- 10:45Speaker 1: lived my life a legend mortalized in pictures, mortalized in pictures.
- 10:50Speaker 1: If there's anything about Tupac he is that it's he
- 10:55Speaker 1: never really got a funeral, you know, And I'm not
- 11:00Speaker 1: the type who want to see Tupac or even Biggie
- 11:03Speaker 1: in a casket unfortunately, you know, like there's pictures of
- 11:10Speaker 1: their cadavers basically on the internet. But for me, I
- 11:14Speaker 1: always wanted to remember Gats like that, you know, the
- 11:19Speaker 1: way I knew him right in video form, the pictures
- 11:23Speaker 1: that he took for album covers, pictures that they took
- 11:25Speaker 1: up him in general. And I feel like with Tupac's
- 11:30Speaker 1: lyrics because they talked so much about, you know, what
- 11:35Speaker 1: could happen and how we felt and how he lived
- 11:39Speaker 1: his life. I think in a lot of ways, this
- 11:46Speaker 1: verse was really aerie to me at the time, Like again,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I ain't mad at you. It was aery for everybody
- 11:51Speaker 1: because it was like, wow, he rapping from heaven, you
- 11:54Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But Smile kind of played that
- 11:58Speaker 1: situation also. And then the beat is dope and a
- 12:01Speaker 1: way Tupac is rhyming over to beat saying those things.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Obviously I read the lyrics, but you need to go
- 12:07Speaker 1: if you haven't heard it, go listen to the song.
- 12:10Speaker 1: This is just a fantastic performance, Like Tupac, this is
- 12:15Speaker 1: the last thing I'm gonna say, but Tupac commands your
- 12:18Speaker 1: attention and this was one of those verses. All right,
- 12:23Speaker 1: next up, won't surprise not a soul, but that is
- 12:28Speaker 1: easy on amatic. Life's a bitch. I know I said
- 12:34Speaker 1: it this time, but you know, debut album for Nas'
- 12:40Speaker 1: debut for as on a feature, I think I can't remember,
- 12:47Speaker 1: y'all tell me, but I think Nas wound up getting
- 12:50Speaker 1: hip hop quotable for his verse. But everybody knows Asy's
- 12:56Speaker 1: verses crazy, and it's crazy because of the word visualizing
- 13:02Speaker 1: the realism of life and actuality. F who's the baddest.
- 13:07Speaker 1: A person's status depends on salary, and my mentality is
- 13:11Speaker 1: money oriented. I'm destined to live the dream for all
- 13:16Speaker 1: my peeps who never made it, because yeah, we were
- 13:19Speaker 1: beginners in the hood as five percenters, but something must
- 13:22Speaker 1: have got in us because all of us turn the
- 13:24Speaker 1: centers now, some resting in peace and some are sitting
- 13:27Speaker 1: in San Quentin. Others such as myself, for trying to
- 13:30Speaker 1: carry on tradition. Dog. It's one thing to line up
- 13:39Speaker 1: words from a wordplay standpoint. It's another thing to say
- 13:45Speaker 1: something profound at the same time. And he's kind of
- 13:51Speaker 1: doing similar to what Tupac was doing, Scarface was doing.
- 13:57Speaker 1: You see the pattern. Now, it's not just bars, it's
- 14:00Speaker 1: more than bars. It's bars on top of bars. Okay, pause,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I guess, I guess I gotta say poets and stuff
- 14:07Speaker 1: like that. But you know what I mean, Like, it's
- 14:12Speaker 1: it's more than just oh well, I'm gonna just talk
- 14:15Speaker 1: about the hood. No, it's the flow. It's the placement
- 14:19Speaker 1: of the words. It's the wordplay. It's what he's saying
- 14:22Speaker 1: is how he's painting a picture of his peers at
- 14:27Speaker 1: this time. Fantastic way to introduce yourself to the game
- 14:33Speaker 1: on one of the greatest albums of all time. I mean,
- 14:38Speaker 1: what else could you ask for? It? Like he's immortalized
- 14:42Speaker 1: from that verse. Again, if hearing all of this, seeing
- 14:51Speaker 1: all of this is making you say, you know what
- 14:53Speaker 1: I'm saying, y'all, there's a couple of a couple of joints.
- 14:56Speaker 1: You know, I could come up with in the list.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Put it in the comments section, because there are plenty
- 15:02Speaker 1: of verses that stand out, But just don't give me
- 15:05Speaker 1: a list. If you can, like, put in a comment section,
- 15:12Speaker 1: why right in detail, why you think this feature is crazy?
- 15:19Speaker 1: You know, whatever feature that is for you two more
- 15:23Speaker 1: to go. Now this next one gets told. I think
- 15:27Speaker 1: the internet, you know, gave this one some life. And
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't say that to say that it wasn't crazy
- 15:35Speaker 1: when it dropped. It was, But I like the fact
- 15:39Speaker 1: that people continue to talk about it today. And that's
- 15:43Speaker 1: Mob Deep song The Realist featuring Koogi rap Or for
- 15:48Speaker 1: the Murder Music album. I recently just did a mob
- 15:54Speaker 1: Deep catalog ranking, so check that out see where I
- 15:58Speaker 1: got Murder Music placed with in their catalog. But also,
- 16:04Speaker 1: now you want to talk about Coke Rat. Kuji Rat
- 16:09Speaker 1: might be the father. No, he is the father of
- 16:14Speaker 1: Coke Rat in the sense of East Coast rappers for
- 16:18Speaker 1: the most part. But also Kuji Rat was on this album.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I think this was like ninety eight something like that
- 16:29Speaker 1: or ninety nine. Around that time. Kuji Rat was out
- 16:33Speaker 1: in the eighties and he was rapping like this and
- 16:35Speaker 1: this verse is wordplay flow, breath control and the fact
- 16:42Speaker 1: that this is a vet still spitting like this. It's crazy,
- 16:45Speaker 1: all right. Now, he cursed a lot, so I have
- 16:47Speaker 1: to do a lot of censorship. But yeah, when the
- 16:50Speaker 1: Gats revealed, you cats get peeled, and that's the deal.
- 16:54Speaker 1: F A b ass that switch fast, and okay, I'm
- 16:59Speaker 1: just going to say yeah, I'm sorry because I can't.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I can't keep editing, so I'll just make this explicit.
- 17:04Speaker 1: You will know before you press play. Let's start at
- 17:09Speaker 1: the top, though, Yo. When the gas revealed, your cats
- 17:12Speaker 1: get peeled and that's the deal. Fucker bitch ass that
- 17:15Speaker 1: switch fast. Niggas that lack Sorry, it's really low for me.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I'm getting older, y'all, I can't really see it. Niggas
- 17:24Speaker 1: that lack the real When the slugs burst, g rat
- 17:27Speaker 1: be aiming at your mug first, niggas is blood thirst.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We'll see who get plugged worse. Damn goddamn, I don't
- 17:35Speaker 1: remember that part we dug earth. The place where we
- 17:38Speaker 1: put the nickel plate is to your facial bullets. Ain't racial, kid,
- 17:43Speaker 1: They only hate you. Now. I know I kind of
- 17:47Speaker 1: butchered it a little bit, but that's not the point.
- 17:49Speaker 1: You're not here to hear me spit it right. This
- 17:53Speaker 1: is so you go listen to it, because when I
- 17:56Speaker 1: tell you the breath control the wordplay as you could
- 18:02Speaker 1: hear what he's saying. Sure, it's a threat, but this
- 18:06Speaker 1: is gangster rap. It's no different. From watching Good Fellas.
- 18:09Speaker 1: That's all it is. They painting those kinds of pictures.
- 18:13Speaker 1: But keep in mind also Cougi rap has a heavy lisp.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Somebody with a heavy lisp that's putting these words together.
- 18:24Speaker 1: And it's fast. This isn't a slow record, right, he
- 18:30Speaker 1: could have took a different route and you know, put
- 18:33Speaker 1: some space in between those words. Nah. He like when
- 18:35Speaker 1: the gap pills, the gut get pilled, but like he
- 18:38Speaker 1: going again. What I liked most about it was this
- 18:43Speaker 1: was a vet in the game, probably ten plus years
- 18:47Speaker 1: removed from his debut, and he's on a track with
- 18:52Speaker 1: mob deep in the late nineties and his verses crazy.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Last one. All right, here's the last one. Make sure
- 19:04Speaker 1: you make sure you get yourself a membership, help support
- 19:07Speaker 1: the podcast. I'm saying take time, you know, stuff take
- 19:11Speaker 1: time to handle. But the last one that we're going
- 19:17Speaker 1: to do is from probably my favorite group of old
- 19:20Speaker 1: time of trapal Quest scenario remix. I know you're like,
- 19:25Speaker 1: is it buster, is it? No? It's the first person
- 19:28Speaker 1: rapping on there a cat who we didn't get to
- 19:32Speaker 1: know because he passed away before this came, before this
- 19:38Speaker 1: came out. It's kidhood and keep the context this was happening.
- 19:48Speaker 1: What what was this? Ninety three, ninety three, ninety four,
- 19:54Speaker 1: probably ninety three, No, no, no, hold up, Midnight Marauders
- 19:57Speaker 1: came out ninety three, so this was earlier than that.
- 20:00Speaker 1: This was ninety two, right. Kidhood is the first baby
- 20:07Speaker 1: of the coke rap, but the first time from uh
- 20:11Speaker 1: and I'm not saying he started this or nothing like that,
- 20:13Speaker 1: but before we got the Nases and the Wool and
- 20:16Speaker 1: the Black Moon and mob Deep, that era, Biggie j
- 20:21Speaker 1: that era of ninety spinners, but you know, hardcore records,
- 20:27Speaker 1: reality rap. Kidhood was on a record with dudes who
- 20:30Speaker 1: typically just did wordplay, and he's spitting like, you know,
- 20:36Speaker 1: straight East Coast gangster rap. Before it happened like that,
- 20:40Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So check your rhym punk
- 20:44Speaker 1: bad ass. Wait a minute, wait wait wait is this
- 20:47Speaker 1: the right choant? Oh yeah, okay, my bad check your
- 20:53Speaker 1: rhym punk that ass or gid got. I like bucksh Hood,
- 21:01Speaker 1: mad man, I rip up stages, laid out on your wages.
- 21:06Speaker 1: I'm wild like Larry Davis, extra extra pick up. But clip,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I tear ass out the frame and grab my deck.
- 21:15Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna say, pauls for that, for that one.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm a Rock'm sock and robot kid, I drop bombs.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I'm rugged and deadly, so I shit on the petty
- 21:26Speaker 1: a baseball bat of bastard. I'm bad news, I'm crazy
- 21:29Speaker 1: and clever, cut throats of cruise. I'm gonna read this
- 21:33Speaker 1: whole one. I'm death on the phone. No, my skills
- 21:38Speaker 1: are poor. No you say, oh no, you bitch ass homeo,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I bagup waiste electrifying, I'm prime time, I slaughter slime.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I'm the greatest of full time sick ass brother, nasty
- 21:51Speaker 1: ass nigga pumps slugs in your face and dump that
- 21:54Speaker 1: ass in the river to tears in a bucket, fucking
- 21:57Speaker 1: kick the can say what, say what? I'm a bad
- 22:00Speaker 1: bad man. That's that. I know. Somebody young's like word,
- 22:04Speaker 1: Why why you say it like that? End? That's how
