Speaker 3: election season and seats are up in several municipalities and
• 2:30
Speaker 3: around a state of Westternet, including the city of South Charleston.
• 2:32
Speaker 3: This gentleman is hoping to get elected to South Charleston
• 2:34
Speaker 3: City Council in Ward eight. His name is Mike McDonald
• 2:36
Speaker 3: and he joins us now in the Generic Construction study.
• 2:39
Speaker 3: Is morning, Mike, Welcome to the show. Good morning, Dave.
• 2:41
Speaker 3: How are you. I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here.
• 2:43
Speaker 3: So you're hoping to get elected to council from ward eight,
• 2:45
Speaker 3: where exactly is Ward eight in South Charleston.
• 2:48
Speaker 5: Ward eight winds up through Montrose and kind of curls
• 2:51
Speaker 5: back around and goes down through over the bridge, down
• 2:54
Speaker 5: where the fire station is and kind of loops back around.
• 2:56
Speaker 5: It's kind of a big ward actually, So Okay, you
• 2:59
  Speaker 5: know it's a it's a lot of houses.
• 3:00
Speaker 3: I gotta I gotta visit a lot of door knocking. Kevin, Absolutely,
• 3:04
Speaker 3: That's always one of my questions. Always ask candidates about
• 3:06
Speaker 3: how you get the word out in one of those ways.
• 3:08
Speaker 3: I guess is you know it's still it's still safe
• 3:11
Speaker 3: in West Virginia. I guess to do that, you know,
• 3:14
Speaker 3: especially in South Charleston, you know, to go and knock
• 3:17
Speaker 3: and knocked door to door. So when you go and
• 3:18
Speaker 3: you knock on somebody's or what do you tell them?
• 3:21
Speaker 5: Well, basically, I just tell them, hey, look, I'm relatively here.
• 3:24
Speaker 5: I moved here three years ago and I instantly fell
• 3:28
Speaker 5: in love with this place.
• 3:29
Speaker 3: Where would you move from? If you don't mind my asking.
• 3:31
Speaker 5: I was here from Utah, Okay, and Utah got a
• 3:34
Speaker 5: little too crowded, a little bit too expensive, and I
• 3:37
Speaker 5: wanted a place that was going to give you mountains.
• 3:38
Speaker 5: Give me four seasons, give me nice people and not
• 3:41
Speaker 5: terribly crowded. Okay, and Charleston kind of hit all those
• 3:45
Speaker 5: bills in South Charleston was kind of the cherry on top, okay.
• 3:48
Speaker 3: And the reason I asked that is is because I
• 3:50
Speaker 3: always I love to hear stories about people who choose
• 3:53
  Speaker 3: West Virginia.
• 3:54
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 3:54
  Speaker 5: I didn't end up here.
• 3:55
Speaker 3: I chose to come out. Okay, that's we should get
• 3:58
Speaker 3: with the folks with the Chamber of Commerce, Department of
• 4:00
Speaker 3: Tourism or something, you know, and get you and then
• 4:02
Speaker 3: let you tell your story because we just don't have
• 4:04
Speaker 3: enough of that here in West Virginia.
• 4:05
Speaker 5: And I agree, and and there's there's an untapped reality
• 4:10
Speaker 5: with West Virginia in general. But Charleston area, the Kanak County,
• 4:15
Speaker 5: I mean, the people here are so warm and charming.
• 4:17
Speaker 5: And that was the final straw for me. That was like,
• 4:21
Speaker 5: this is the place where I'm going to my next
• 4:24
Speaker 5: chapter in life, so to speak. And I fell in
• 4:27
Speaker 5: love with it. In fact, the the absolute last straw
• 4:31
Speaker 5: was at the Kroger on mccorkel in South Charleston. And
• 4:34
Speaker 5: I sat there for an hour and people watched and
• 4:37
Speaker 5: I noticed something very interesting. People were putting the carts
• 4:40
Speaker 5: back in the cart.
• 4:42
Speaker 3: In the in the in the corral, Yes, in the corral, Yes,
• 4:45
  Speaker 3: thank you.
• 4:46
Speaker 5: And I'm like, these people can self manage. These are
• 4:49
  Speaker 5: my people.
• 4:51
Speaker 3: That's that's that's it. Or or sometimes they you know,
• 4:55
Speaker 3: one of the things I have noticed is what they'll
• 4:57
Speaker 3: they'll take a cart for someone and help. And if
• 4:59
Speaker 3: you go and I've done that, and if you go
• 5:01
Speaker 3: to Ald where you have to do the quarter deposit,
• 5:04
Speaker 3: many times people will just say, oh, here keep your quarter.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: And I don't know whether al d likes that or not,
• 5:08
Speaker 3: but here keep your quarter. Well you get it back
• 5:10
Speaker 3: for sure. But I've noticed a lot of that too. Yeah,
• 5:13
Speaker 3: I kind of pay it forward.
• 5:14
Speaker 7: So's you know, I like that.
• 5:15
Speaker 3: Shopping cart etiquette exactly. Know that'll be your that'll be
• 5:18
  Speaker 3: your platform. Mike McDonald's McDonald's here. He's a candidate for
• 5:23
Speaker 3: Charleston South Charleston City Council in Ward eight. Okay, so
• 5:25
Speaker 3: he told us a little bit of it. We kind
• 5:27
Speaker 3: of skipped a rout of it, but give us your bio.
• 5:29
Speaker 5: So basically, my background is in sales, marketing, team building, uh,
• 5:34
Speaker 5: problem solving, okay, collaboration and what I want to bring
• 5:38
Speaker 5: to South Charleston is the I want to bring in
• 5:41
Speaker 5: more businesses to have employment because without a selection of jobs, okay,
• 5:48
Speaker 5: everything becomes a lot harder. So if there's better paying jobs,
• 5:51
Speaker 5: better paying careers, people will come get the jobs and
• 5:56
Speaker 5: then start to see that, you know, South Charleston is
• 5:59
Speaker 5: a really good place to start a family, raise a family,
• 6:01
Speaker 5: and the stay. And that's kind of the goal of
• 6:05
Speaker 5: you know, where I'm at. There's infrastructure ideas that I
• 6:08
Speaker 5: want to bring uh to, like obviously the you know,
• 6:11
Speaker 5: the Ward eight area because it's it's an older neighborhood,
• 6:14
Speaker 5: and those ideas that I want to pitch to, you know,
• 6:18
Speaker 5: to the mayor and and and make it make it
• 6:22
Speaker 5: a destination city really for not only for businesses, but
• 6:25
Speaker 5: for families to grow and you know, have more more
• 6:28
  Speaker 5: to choose from.
• 6:29
Speaker 3: Does that make sense?
• 6:30
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 6:30
Speaker 3: Absolutely absolutely. So what are if you are elected to
• 6:34
Speaker 3: city council, Because you're a part of a larger body
• 6:36
Speaker 3: and you said you'd be working, you know, with with
• 6:38
Speaker 3: whomever the mayor is. Uh So, so how do you
• 6:42
Speaker 3: plan to go about that if you are elected? What
• 6:44
Speaker 3: what's the what's day one on city council look like
• 6:47
  Speaker 3: for you?
• 6:48
Speaker 5: Day one I would imagine it would be for the
• 6:51
Speaker 5: first little bit, just listen here, what's you kind of
• 6:55
Speaker 5: get used to how things are, how things run. And
• 6:58
Speaker 5: then I start meeting with my other you know, fellow
• 7:01
Speaker 5: council members and start pitching ideas and this is you know,
• 7:04
Speaker 5: I want to do. I want this, I want to
• 7:06
Speaker 5: I like to do this. I like to see improvements here,
• 7:08
Speaker 5: here and here, this is what our neighborhood needs. And
• 7:10
Speaker 5: start working with you know, putting proposals together and you know,
• 7:13
  Speaker 5: getting problems solved.
• 7:16
Speaker 3: I'm talking about Mike McDonald again, who is a candidate
• 7:19
Speaker 3: for City Council Ward eight in the City of South Charleston.
• 7:22
Speaker 3: To Dave Alan showing five eighty Live has brought you
• 7:24
Speaker 3: in part by Bridge Valley Community in Technical College. Visit
• 7:27
Speaker 3: Bridge Valley dot edu Bridge Valley Community to Technical College.
• 7:31
Speaker 3: Your career starts here. So one of the things, and
• 7:34
Speaker 3: you know, I always like to keep all the interviews
• 7:35
Speaker 3: we do with candidate's positive. But one of the things
• 7:37
Speaker 3: that people might say about you is, Okay, well you're
• 7:42
Speaker 3: you're not from here. Okay, what does that bring to
• 7:44
Speaker 3: the air, because it could be a positive as well.
• 7:47
Speaker 3: So well, how would you answer that if somebody says, well,
• 7:49
Speaker 3: you know, you haven't been here that long, what would
• 7:51
Speaker 3: your answer that be.
• 7:52
Speaker 5: I think I have the best of both worlds because
• 7:54
Speaker 5: I am an outsider. I can see all the good.
• 7:56
Speaker 5: I can see where where it's room for improvement.
• 7:59
  Speaker 7: Right.
• 8:00
Speaker 5: But here's the fun part. I have ancestry in Charleston
• 8:02
Speaker 5: going back to seventeen ninety. Okay, I didn't know that
• 8:05
Speaker 5: until I moved here.
• 8:08
Speaker 3: Well, you know, they say there's always a West Virginia connection,
• 8:11
Speaker 3: So I guess you just proved that right pretty much.
• 8:13
Speaker 5: And so I have Scottish ancestry, and they were here
• 8:16
Speaker 5: when it was a Virginia colony, and my surname kind
• 8:19
Speaker 5: of vanished right around eighteen seventy.
• 8:21
Speaker 3: Okay, that makes sense.
• 8:24
Speaker 5: So I am from here, just in a larger roundabout way.
• 8:27
Speaker 5: It just took you while to get here pretty much,
• 8:28
Speaker 5: you know, Like they say, Well it did answer why
• 8:31
Speaker 5: this felt this place felt so familiar when I when
• 8:33
Speaker 5: I started kind of touring the area. Okay, and I've
• 8:36
Speaker 5: been to more places in West Virginia than probably a
• 8:38
Speaker 5: lot of West Virginia centers.
• 8:39
Speaker 3: That you're probably not wrong about that, all right. So
• 8:42
Speaker 3: you talked about growing business and things that nature. If
• 8:46
Speaker 3: you had like a wish list of not necessarily just businesses,
• 8:50
Speaker 3: but of things that you would bring to South Charleston's
• 8:53
Speaker 3: what's lacking in South Charleston in your in your opinion.
• 8:56
Speaker 5: I'd like to see more tech. I'd like to see
• 8:58
Speaker 5: more manufacturing. I'm just start kind of in the twenty
• 9:01
Speaker 5: five to thirty five dollars an hour range, right, higher skilled,
• 9:05
Speaker 5: more committed, and because the thing that, like South Charleston's
• 9:08
Speaker 5: history is known for is manufacturing, right, I'd like to
• 9:11
Speaker 5: see some more that come back in here. I'd like
• 9:13
Speaker 5: to see class manufacturing come back kind of on a
• 9:15
  Speaker 5: larger scale.
• 9:16
Speaker 1: I'd like to see.
• 9:17
Speaker 5: Tech kind of come in. And I'm not talking data centers,
• 9:19
Speaker 5: I'm talking actual tech manufacturing, right, And those are kind
• 9:23
Speaker 5: of my two key targets. And then everything else kind
• 9:25
Speaker 5: of falls under infrastructure, Okay, taking care of some of
• 9:29
Speaker 5: the maintenance issues that just age comes with, you know,
• 9:31
Speaker 5: comes with a state. I like to see the I
• 9:34
Speaker 5: have ideas on getting the road surfaces fixed and kind
• 9:37
Speaker 5: of fixed for good in a sense. So I have
• 9:39
Speaker 5: to be redone every six weeks, right, despite our lovely weather.
• 9:44
Speaker 3: So would you have a Facebook or or website or
• 9:49
  Speaker 3: anything you want.
• 9:50
Speaker 5: If you go to Facebook dot com, it's Mike mac
• 9:53
Speaker 5: number four sc for South Charleston.
• 9:56
Speaker 3: Okay, Final thirty Mike waht Should someone vote for Mike
• 10:00
Speaker 3: Donald's City Council Ward eight in South Charles.
• 10:01
Speaker 5: I have a new perspective on things. I love the city.
• 10:04
Speaker 5: I see the potential in it. I see the opportunities
• 10:07
Speaker 5: that are here. I want to I want to grow
• 10:11
Speaker 5: and make South Charleston more of that family center. That's someplace,
• 10:15
Speaker 5: that's someplace special, you know. And that's where I really
• 10:19
Speaker 5: want to make a difference here because it seems like
• 10:23
Speaker 5: my entire life is kind of built up to this point.
• 10:26
Speaker 5: And with my ability to collaborate, my ability to speak
• 10:29
Speaker 5: to people and you know, here and listen, here's here's
• 10:32
Speaker 5: what I can offer, right and just be part of
• 10:35
Speaker 5: that team to make this place even better than it already.
• 10:39
Speaker 3: Is Mike McDonald again. He is a candidate for City
• 10:43
Speaker 3: Council Ward eight in South Charles. I appreciate you stopping by, man,
• 10:46
Speaker 3: I appreciate you having me. All Right, We're going to

Speaker 3: starring Sydney Swening, And what they're going to do is
• 14:08
Speaker 3: this evening in Saint Albans, they're going to have a
• 14:11
Speaker 3: screening of the movie at the Album Theater free of charge,
• 14:15
Speaker 3: and they're going to have like a reception at the
• 14:17
Speaker 3: Tap in St. Albans on Old Maine just prior to that.
• 14:20
Speaker 3: So she's going to tell us her story coming up
• 14:21
Speaker 3: a little bit later on. Also, we'll go live to
• 14:23
Speaker 3: the State Capitol and check in with TJ and Dave
• 14:27
Speaker 3: as well. I want to welcome into the show now,
• 14:29
Speaker 3: Anne Bostik. She is with health Path Medical and Psychiatric Care.
• 14:32
Speaker 3: Did I get it right in Yes, that is correct.
• 14:35
Speaker 3: All right, welcome to the show. Thanks for being.
• 14:37
Speaker 12: Here, Thank you for having me.
• 14:39
Speaker 3: Tell us overall about health Path Medical and Psychiatric Care.
• 14:42
Speaker 3: Then we'll break it down from there. Just give us
• 14:44
  Speaker 3: the overall.
• 14:45
Speaker 12: Health Path Medical and Psychiatric Care is an outpatient psychiatric
• 14:49
Speaker 12: facility located right here. In Charleston, we take care of patients, children, adolescents,
• 14:57
Speaker 12: adults who struggle with mental health symptoms such as depression, anxiety, ADHD.
• 15:06
Speaker 12: We provide an integrated approach to treating mental health. We
• 15:14
Speaker 12: while most practices look at primarily deal with symptoms, we
• 15:21
Speaker 12: pride ourselves in that we do treat symptoms with medication
• 15:25
Speaker 12: and therapy, but also focus a lot of our attention
• 15:28
Speaker 12: on looking at brain disregulation. We truly believe that mental
• 15:34
Speaker 12: health symptoms such as anxiety, depression, lack of focus have
• 15:38
Speaker 12: to do with brain disregulation, and we use advanced technology
• 15:42
Speaker 12: such as EEG to really look at where that dysregulation
• 15:47
  Speaker 12: is occurring.
• 15:48
Speaker 3: In explain what you mean by disregulation.
• 15:52
Speaker 12: Well, we use EEG because yes, electro andcephalogram, and in
• 15:58
Speaker 12: using the e EG, we look at how brain patterns
• 16:03
Speaker 12: with a person who has a mental health who has
• 16:06
Speaker 12: a lot of mental health symptoms, we look at how
• 16:09
Speaker 12: those brain patterns are different than what a normal brain
• 16:13
Speaker 12: pattern looks like, and then we use advanced technologies like
• 16:18
Speaker 12: transcranial magnetic stimulation to stimulate. Sometimes brain waves are underactive.
• 16:25
Speaker 12: For example, when a person has depression, they have hypoactive
• 16:29
Speaker 12: brainwave activity, and we look at where that is occurring
• 16:33
Speaker 12: and stimulate those areas using a personalized transcranial magnetic stimulation technique.
• 16:40
Speaker 12: Patients who have a lot of anxiety or ADHD oftentimes
• 16:44
Speaker 12: they have overactive brainwave activity, and so we treat based
• 16:51
Speaker 12: on what we're seeing on the EEG.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: And what do I mean? I know you can't say
• 16:56
Speaker 3: this is what we do for everybody, but just what
• 16:58
Speaker 3: does a treatment look like on just picking average if
• 17:03
Speaker 3: I don't know if there is any touching as average
• 17:05
Speaker 3: or not, but on a regular person or on a
• 17:08
Speaker 3: regular daily basis, what kind of thing.
• 17:11
Speaker 12: Normally with our patients. We we also take care. We
• 17:15
Speaker 12: also do medication management and therapy, but for patients who
• 17:20
Speaker 12: who have not obtained results with medication and therapy, that's
• 17:25
Speaker 12: primarily where we really we really recommend something that's a
• 17:32
Speaker 12: little bit more advanced and integrative. So patient might come
• 17:37
Speaker 12: to us who has tried a number of antidepressants and
• 17:40
Speaker 12: is still struggling with severe depression or a number of
• 17:44
Speaker 12: different medications for you know, ADHD or different different conditions,
• 17:51
Speaker 12: and and for those patients oftentimes, really looking at the
• 17:56
Speaker 12: EEG seeing where that dysregulation is occurring and treating those
• 18:01
Speaker 12: areas using TMS is much more effective. Okay, we've seen
• 18:07
Speaker 12: tremendous results with it.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: And so what I'm hearing, and I don't want to
• 18:10
Speaker 3: put words in your mouths, Okay, you can interrupt me
• 18:13
Speaker 3: any any time you want. What I'm hearing you say
• 18:16
Speaker 3: is that in some cases, and every case is different,
• 18:19
Speaker 3: I get that. But in some cases medicines don't work,
• 18:24
Speaker 3: or are they on this particular person, they've not been
• 18:27
Speaker 3: as effective. So let's try something different that doesn't involve medications.
• 18:32
Speaker 12: Correct. And many people have tried many, many different medications
• 18:36
Speaker 12: and they become extremely frustrated because when we are treating symptoms,
• 18:43
Speaker 12: you know, we it's kind of trial and error with medicines.
• 18:47
Speaker 12: So with the EEG, we have a more objective look
• 18:50
Speaker 12: at what's going on. So it's not just a matter
• 18:53
Speaker 12: of what symptoms the patients tell us that they have.
• 18:57
Speaker 12: We are we can see more objective with the EEG
• 19:01
Speaker 12: where the dysregulation is occurring, how we can treat that
• 19:06
  Speaker 12: more more effectively.
• 19:07
Speaker 3: I think it's interesting that you talk about treat how
• 19:11
Speaker 3: the community, the medical community, to certain extent, the mental
• 19:14
Speaker 3: health community wants to treat symptoms and this is going
• 19:17
Speaker 3: to make but it doesn't get to the to the
• 19:20
Speaker 3: root of the problem it was. I mean, it's it's
• 19:22
Speaker 3: kind of like, you know, you this is a very
• 19:25
Speaker 3: broad analogy. You break an arm, Okay, we'll just put
• 19:27
Speaker 3: a long sleeve shirt on. You know, that's not good.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: That's not going to do anything. You know, that's except
• 19:32
Speaker 3: maybe if your arm is deformed. It's not it's gonna
• 19:35
Speaker 3: it's gonna it's going to cover that up. Talk about
• 19:38
Speaker 3: the mental health status of West Virginia because we we
• 19:42
Speaker 3: frequently hear that West Virginia has got a lot of
• 19:45
Speaker 3: issues when it comes to things like this. Talk about
• 19:48
Speaker 3: the mental mental state of the state.
• 19:51
Speaker 12: Yes, West Virginia, and this is one of the reasons
• 19:55
Speaker 12: it's so important that we have alternative options here in
• 19:58
Speaker 12: West Virginia because in West Virginia we have one of
• 20:01
Speaker 12: the highest rates of depression in the entire country. We also,
• 20:07
Speaker 12: of course have the highest rates of substance use disorder
• 20:10
Speaker 12: and overdose, so and all of these conditions. When patients
• 20:15
Speaker 12: are struggling with substance dependence, they often more than fifty
• 20:20
Speaker 12: percent have a comorbid depression that goes along with that.
• 20:24
Speaker 12: So you know, so West Virginia we really really have
• 20:29
Speaker 12: extremely high rates of depression, anxiety, PTSD, trauma, substance use disorder,
• 20:37
Speaker 12: all of those things. And when a patient comes to us,
• 20:40
Speaker 12: they don't just come with one condition. They often have
• 20:44
Speaker 12: a multitude of different things going on, and it's oftentimes
• 20:48
Speaker 12: really difficult to you know, to determine what is the
• 20:55
Speaker 12: you know, the bottom line problem with the patient.
• 20:58
Speaker 3: So, now I know you're not a sociologist, okay, but
• 21:04
Speaker 3: why does it seem West Virginia has such an issue
• 21:06
Speaker 3: with this is there? I mean, I know we've only
• 21:08
Speaker 3: got you know, another another five minutes or so in
• 21:10
Speaker 3: the five or ten minutes, but it could take all day.
• 21:12
Speaker 3: But why, why, in your opinion, is West for struggle
• 21:14
  Speaker 3: with so much.
• 21:15
Speaker 12: We're rural, you know, we are, we are, it's just
• 21:20
Speaker 12: the Appalachian Our culture is just very different and it's
• 21:24
Speaker 12: a rural area there. Plus, we have a tremendous amount
• 21:30
Speaker 12: of substance use problems here.
• 21:32
Speaker 3: We're going to get it that a little bit.
• 21:33
Speaker 12: And when when substance use dependence is a problem, then
• 21:38
Speaker 12: all of these other mental health conditions go right along
• 21:41
Speaker 12: with it. And you know, even if they didn't exist before,
• 21:45
Speaker 12: they're brought on by substance use often.
• 21:48
Speaker 3: And we tend to be I think in Appalachia we
• 21:51
Speaker 3: we have kind of a fatalistic view of the world
• 21:55
Speaker 3: in general. We feel like that we've been part of
• 21:57
Speaker 3: the pun craft on a whole lot. And and this
• 21:59
Speaker 3: lead to other things. And when you talk about the
• 22:02
Speaker 3: substance abuse issue, which we're going to get into again,
• 22:05
Speaker 3: we're talking with ambostic with health, mathematical and psychiatric care.
• 22:09
Speaker 3: When you talk about the substance abuse issues, a lot
• 22:12
Speaker 3: of times it's not just about someone wanting to get high, Okay,
• 22:16
Speaker 3: it goes beyond that. There's a reason for that. They're
• 22:20
Speaker 3: trying to cover up a trauma, something happened in their childhood,
• 22:24
Speaker 3: something that they're battling on a regular basis. Would you
• 22:27
  Speaker 3: agree with them?
• 22:27
Speaker 12: Absolutely? Absolutely? And you know, we've seen that so much
• 22:33
Speaker 12: here in West Virginia, and we don't have we just
• 22:38
Speaker 12: don't have a lot of solutions. And one of the
• 22:41
Speaker 12: things with these advanced interventional treatments, we can give patients hope,
• 22:47
Speaker 12: you know, because people lose hope when they've tried a
• 22:51
Speaker 12: million different things and nothing's working. Once somebody loses hope,
• 22:56
Speaker 12: it's really difficult, So.
• 23:01
Speaker 3: Dragon Ann Bostic with Health, Mathematical and Psychiatric Care. A
• 23:04
Speaker 3: Dave Island Show on five eighty Live is brought to you. Yeah,
• 23:07
Speaker 3: I'm gonna get that. Uh, Jimstron, I love you, Jimmy.
• 23:13
Speaker 3: The Dave Island Show on five eighty Live is broad
• 23:15
Speaker 3: to part by your hometown baseball chief, the Charleston Dirty Birds.
• 23:17
Speaker 3: It's winter time now, but we're already thinking about baseball.
• 23:20
Speaker 3: That's what we all need. Baseball over go ballpark. Now
• 23:23
Speaker 3: would be a good time to secure your season tickets,
• 23:24
Speaker 3: merchandise some more at dirty Birds baseball dot com. And
• 23:27
Speaker 3: you meant we've talked a lot in the interview and
• 23:29
Speaker 3: about substance abuse. You recently got some of the opioid
• 23:33
Speaker 3: settlement money to to kind of help some folks. Talk
• 23:35
Speaker 3: about that, and then we'll talk about your big event
• 23:37
Speaker 3: in chef coming up.
• 23:37
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 23:38
Speaker 12: Yes, we recently were awarded funding through the West Virginia
• 23:44
Speaker 12: First Foundation opioid Settlement money to treat patients who have
• 23:48
Speaker 12: dual diagnosis that means a combination of depression and substance
• 23:53
Speaker 12: use disorder. I think one of the reasons that we
• 23:56
Speaker 12: were awarded this grant is because there is so so
• 24:00
Speaker 12: it is so common for patients with substance use disorder
• 24:04
Speaker 12: to also have depression, So we are using TMS to
• 24:09
Speaker 12: treat depression and also substance use disorder. There's much much
• 24:14
Speaker 12: evidence nowadays that TMS can help with cravings. So with
• 24:19
Speaker 12: this grant funding, we are going to be treating patients
• 24:22
Speaker 12: completely free of charge if they meet qualifications for it,
• 24:26
Speaker 12: which is that they have a dual diagnosis of substance
• 24:29
Speaker 12: use and depression. So we will be recruiting patients. Treatments
• 24:34
Speaker 12: will be starting in just a couple months.
• 24:37
Speaker 3: And yes, and we're really excited about we're you physically located.
• 24:41
Speaker 12: We're physically located at Northgate at the Cottage at Northgate.
• 24:44
Speaker 12: We recently moved our offices to the Cottages at Northgate
• 24:50
Speaker 12: and in fact we're having a grand reopening this weekend
• 24:54
Speaker 12: on Saturday, February twenty eighth, eleven o'clock. We're going to
• 24:58

• 25:15
Speaker 12: So he is going to be speaking on these things
• 25:17
Speaker 12: and talk about how neuromodulation and transcranial magnetic stimulation is
• 25:23
Speaker 12: changing the landscape of mental health across the country.
• 25:27
Speaker 3: And do you have a like where can people learn more?
• 25:30
Speaker 3: You of a website, social media things of that nature
• 25:33
Speaker 3: they can learn more about this.

• 29:56
Speaker 3: you've done, Christy, You go all over people say where
• 29:58
Speaker 3: are you from? They generally don't say Florida, Texas, Tennessee.
• 30:02
Speaker 3: They say West Virginia, even though they may have been
• 30:04
Speaker 3: gone for forty years.
• 30:05
Speaker 2: Absolutely, it's a Western time. Anybody asked me where I'm from,
• 30:08
Speaker 2: I'm from West Virginia.
• 30:09
Speaker 3: Always about West Virginia, but originally Wyoming County, right, Mullins.
• 30:14
Speaker 2: Right. I graduated from Mallin's High School, which isn't there anymore?
• 30:17
Speaker 3: Back when there was a MULLINSI absolutely, the Rebels, Yes,
• 30:21
Speaker 3: a Mullins High School. Yes, yeah, Mullins and Pineville became
• 30:24
  Speaker 3: Wyoming East.
• 30:25
Speaker 2: Absolutely, And it's crazy because there were such big rivals
• 30:28
Speaker 2: back in my day, and now here we are we
• 30:30
Speaker 2: have to go to class with these and.
• 30:33
Speaker 3: The other side of Wyoming County did the same thing
• 30:35
Speaker 3: with I guess it was Ocean and Baileysville, which became West.
• 30:38
Speaker 3: All my families from Wyoming County. So that's why I
• 30:40
Speaker 3: know all the all the important towns like Clear Fork

• 30:54
Speaker 3: if people needed an introduction to who Rusty Web is.
• 30:57
Speaker 3: Uh so, talk about how you originally got into the
• 31:01
Speaker 3: whole boxing thing. What was it about that that interested you?
• 31:05
Speaker 2: You know, I'm not sure. Growing up, the tough Ma
• 31:09
Speaker 2: contest was a big deal in Beckley, West Virginia, and
• 31:12
Speaker 2: I just they didn't allow women to do it, but
• 31:14
Speaker 2: I thought, for some crazy reason they should. So I
• 31:18
Speaker 2: kept talking to Jerry Thomas, who was the promoter, we
• 31:20
Speaker 2: need to have women, we need to have women. He
• 31:22
Speaker 2: would say, no, Christy, that's a crazy idea. So finally,
• 31:25
Speaker 2: I think it was like eighty seven, eighty eight something.
• 31:28
Speaker 2: They did have a women's division and I was probably
• 31:30
Speaker 2: like the first one there to sign up, never thinking,
• 31:33
Speaker 2: never in my wildest dreams, was that going to be
• 31:35
Speaker 2: my career or was that going to be something that
• 31:37
Speaker 2: I didn't more than that one.
• 31:38
Speaker 3: Time when you stepped in that ring, Christy for the
• 31:41
Speaker 3: first time, was it what you thought it would be
• 31:44
Speaker 3: or was it totally different?
• 31:46
Speaker 2: Or it was scary because you know, my opponent was
• 31:52
Speaker 2: actually a classmate that I had at Concord, and so
• 31:55
Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, I can't you know, Monday, Wednesday, Friday,
• 31:57
Speaker 2: I'm not going to face this person that I lost to,
• 32:00
Speaker 2: So that pressure was on. But you know, everybody crawls
• 32:02
Speaker 2: out of the ring and it's just you and that
• 32:04
Speaker 2: other person. So it was.
• 32:06
Speaker 3: Did you win? I did you did well convincingly? Or
• 32:09
Speaker 3: is it did like a decision?
• 32:10
Speaker 2: Was it a tough fight?
• 32:11
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, it was a tough and that's when it
• 32:14
Speaker 3: kicked in. I wanted I want to do this.
• 32:16
  Speaker 2: I don't know that that's what happened. I think it
• 32:19
Speaker 2: took a couple of times and I was like, this
• 32:22
Speaker 2: is really cool. But never, even after I had my
• 32:24
Speaker 2: first professional fight down in Bristol, Tennessee, never did I
• 32:28
Speaker 2: think this was going to be like a career, Yeah,
• 32:30
Speaker 2: because I had never seen any other woman doing it.
• 32:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's what I was going to say. I mean,
• 32:33
Speaker 3: we're talking about the nineteen eighties here, when it just
• 32:36
Speaker 3: wasn't that big of a thing. I mean, women, just
• 32:39
Speaker 3: women pretty much, with a few exceptions, women just didn't
• 32:42
  Speaker 3: do this.
• 32:43
Speaker 2: No, there there was no one that I could really
• 32:45
Speaker 2: look to and say, oh wow, that person did it.
• 32:48
Speaker 2: So they made the trail they made. You know, I
• 32:50
Speaker 2: can follow this path. But that wasn't that wasn't the case.
• 32:53
Speaker 3: Well now they look at you, I hope.
• 32:55
Speaker 2: So you know, the further I get away from my career,
• 32:57
Speaker 2: the more important I think it was to women's box.
• 33:00
Speaker 2: And I think it really opened up a lot of
• 33:01
Speaker 2: eyes that hey, these women can fight and you know,
• 33:05
Speaker 2: love him or hate him. Don King gave me a
• 33:07
Speaker 2: wonderful opportunity. I was fighting under Mike Tyson on Showtime
• 33:11
Speaker 2: on HBO at that time. No female fighter it ever got.
• 33:14
Speaker 3: Had it not been for a Don King or something
• 33:17
Speaker 3: like that, it probably wouldn't have happened because you got
• 33:20
Speaker 3: to have somebody with that stature that comes in and
• 33:24
Speaker 3: I hate Christy. I hate to use a term legitimized,
• 33:26
Speaker 3: but that's almost what it did. It said, okay, it's
• 33:28
Speaker 3: got the Don King suit of.
• 33:31
Speaker 2: Absolutely, you're right, and because no other promoter at that
• 33:34
Speaker 2: level would allow a female fighter to fight on their card.
• 33:37
Speaker 2: So now Don King's done it. And then we did
• 33:39
Speaker 2: a pretty good fight on the undercard of Mike Tyson
• 33:42
Speaker 2: and Frank Bruno back in nineteen ninety six. I was
• 33:45
Speaker 2: bloody and we were at the Jim Greend in Las
• 33:47
Speaker 2: Vegas on Showtime pay per view, and I mean the
• 33:51
Speaker 2: world saw it and they're like, wow, these women can fight.
• 33:55
Speaker 2: So other promoters started putting women on their shows as well.
• 33:58
Speaker 3: And then of course you cover Sports Illustrated and all that.
• 34:01
Speaker 3: But all of that and you became a international superstar.
• 34:05
Speaker 3: But with that there was a downside.
• 34:08
Speaker 2: It was a tough, tough thing. I tell people all
• 34:10
Speaker 2: the time that in front of the camera it looked
• 34:12
Speaker 2: as though I was on top of the world, but
• 34:14
Speaker 2: behind the camera, I felt like the world was on
• 34:15
Speaker 2: top of me. It was a tough situation. My my
• 34:19
Speaker 2: then husband, abuser, was every time something positive happened I
• 34:23
Speaker 2: was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, he tried to
• 34:25
Speaker 2: tell me why it was about him and not about me,
• 34:29
Speaker 2: and how he had made that happen, not my fight
• 34:32
Speaker 2: that I did with Theodore Gogerty on the Tyson card.
• 34:35
Speaker 2: So every every positive thing he would he would shoot
• 34:38
  Speaker 2: it down.
• 34:40
Speaker 3: And a movie, of course, it, which is going to
• 34:42
Speaker 3: be screened tonight at the Alban Theater in Saint Albans,
• 34:44
Speaker 3: was made about you. How closely were you involved with
• 34:46
  Speaker 3: the movie.
• 34:47
Speaker 2: I spent hours and hours on the phone with the writer,
• 34:51
Speaker 2: and most everything in the movies is very accurate. There
• 34:54
Speaker 2: were some characters and some some events that happened that
• 34:58
Speaker 2: had to be combined, so we didn't have a nine
• 35:00
  Speaker 2: hour long movie.
• 35:01
Speaker 3: And that's not that's not uncommon. I mean, you have
• 35:04
Speaker 3: a lot of composite characters. They call them, you know,
• 35:06
Speaker 3: we're okay this this guy was actually three guys into
• 35:09
Speaker 3: one because you can't employ everybody in the movie.
• 35:11
Speaker 2: And that's exactly what happened. That Rosie is a combination
• 35:14
Speaker 2: of like three people. So yeah, and some of that
• 35:18
Speaker 2: is tough because there are people that I felt like
• 35:21
Speaker 2: deserved to be included in the movie, but the powers
• 35:24
Speaker 2: that be decided, no, we're going to combine those people
• 35:27
Speaker 2: and we're gonna have one character overall.
• 35:29
Speaker 3: Were you happy with the way the movie turned out.
• 35:31
Speaker 2: I was happy with the movie. I think the promotion
• 35:34
Speaker 2: of the movie was poor. I think it missed the
• 35:36
Speaker 2: boat that this isn't a boxing movie, this is a
• 35:39
Speaker 2: life movie. And then it's tough because people don't want
• 35:43
Speaker 2: to hear about the messic balance. They want to go,
• 35:46
Speaker 2: they want to go see, you know, people get something
• 35:49
Speaker 2: doesn't really happen, you know, blowing up and this and that.
• 35:52
  Speaker 2: You know, like I don't know, it's just a very
• 35:55
Speaker 2: important movie. But I do think streaming is going to
• 35:57
Speaker 2: have a different life and the more people are gonna
• 35:59
Speaker 2: watch it at home where they can can sit down
• 36:03
Speaker 2: at their leisure and kind of take it in. I'm
• 36:05
Speaker 2: getting messages from all over the world that we're giving
• 36:09
Speaker 2: us a lot of inspiration. And if you know, I say,
• 36:11
Speaker 2: if I can get up off the floor, anyone.
• 36:13
Speaker 3: Can thinkin we're talking with Christy Martin, So in that situation,
• 36:19
Speaker 3: we don't want to I want to. I only want
• 36:20
Speaker 3: to talk about what you're comfortable with, okay, And if
• 36:23
Speaker 3: you're not, then you jump in and say no, Dave,
• 36:25
Speaker 3: and then you can you can knock me out if
• 36:26
Speaker 3: you want. So how bad was the situation within your
• 36:32
Speaker 3: house when all when all this famous fortune was going on,
• 36:35
Speaker 3: How bad wasn't you know?
• 36:36
Speaker 2: It's just like if you can imagine that every time
• 36:38
Speaker 2: something like you hit the ball, you know, you hit
• 36:40
Speaker 2: the ball all the park here and you go home
• 36:42
Speaker 2: and somebody shoots you down every time, like it's it's
• 36:44
Speaker 2: didn't really happen. And then on a very routine basis,
• 36:51
Speaker 2: I would be told, if ever you leave me, I
• 36:53
Speaker 2: will kill you. And so at first I was young
• 36:56
Speaker 2: when he started telling me that, and I kind of
• 36:59
Speaker 2: laughed it off. But as I was married to him
• 37:01
Speaker 2: for twenty years, so sometimes during that twenty year time,
• 37:03
Speaker 2: I started thinking, no, I think this is real. And
• 37:06
Speaker 2: then when I actually did leave, I knew it was real.
• 37:08
Speaker 2: But I was also like, you know what, my life
• 37:10
Speaker 2: is over. I'm not living the way I am now,
• 37:13
Speaker 2: so it doesn't matter to me if I live or die.
• 37:16
Speaker 2: But during the attack, after being stabbed and when he
• 37:19
Speaker 2: was pistol whipping me, it was like the switch flipped
• 37:22
Speaker 2: and I said, no, you are not going to kill me.
• 37:25
Speaker 2: I'm not ready to die, not today, and he didn't,
• 37:29
  Speaker 2: as you know.
• 37:30
Speaker 3: And I think one of the great things would take aways.
• 37:33
Speaker 3: Great may have been the wrong word. One of the
• 37:35
Speaker 3: most important things I guess is that this story happened
• 37:38
Speaker 3: to world renowned boxer Christy Martin. It may as well
• 37:41
Speaker 3: have happened ten miles up the road, you know, because
• 37:44
Speaker 3: it's the same story. The only thing that changes is
• 37:49
Speaker 3: maybe maybe it was in a nicer home or something
• 37:51
Speaker 3: like that. But I mean, it could easily have happened
• 37:53
Speaker 3: ten fifteen miles of the road, or in Wyoming County orherever,
• 37:56
Speaker 3: because it happens all over the world every day.
• 37:58
Speaker 2: And that's why I tell people that this movie, it
• 38:00
Speaker 2: doesn't matter that it's about me. It's the story that
• 38:04
Speaker 2: this movie. That's why it is important. And you're absolutely right.
• 38:07
Speaker 2: And you know, people could say, oh wow, you know,
• 38:10
Speaker 2: I'm physically strong, and but it can happen to anybody.
• 38:14
Speaker 2: And you know, had a little bit of money. So
• 38:16
Speaker 2: it doesn't matter how rich you are, how poor you are,
• 38:19
Speaker 2: what you know, black, white, green, and purple, it doesn't matter.
• 38:22
Speaker 2: It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or Democrat. Is
• 38:25
Speaker 2: happening and and and I'm going to tell you my
• 38:27
Speaker 2: thought is it's happening a lot of times in those
• 38:33
Speaker 2: homes where they're there, they do have money.
• 38:35
Speaker 3: They do have power where people would probably because those
• 38:37
  Speaker 3: are the.
• 38:37
Speaker 2: People that are they're at least expecting. But those those
• 38:41
Speaker 2: women and men sometimes are more afraid to speak out
• 38:44
Speaker 2: because they feel like they have more to lose, or
• 38:47
Speaker 2: they can't tarnish the husband's reputation.
• 38:52
Speaker 3: They feel ere, they feel trapped in a lot, and
• 38:56
Speaker 3: the abuser likes that. They like that the that I control,
• 39:01
Speaker 3: I control everything here. I just wonder when you've gotten
• 39:05
Speaker 3: messages you said, you know, since the movie came out,
• 39:08
Speaker 3: you're going to get even more when streaming happens, whatever.
• 39:10
Speaker 3: What kind of messages do you get from people saying, Hey,
• 39:13
  Speaker 3: that's my story. I wasn't a boxer, but that's my story.
• 39:19
Speaker 2: Every day, really, I'm getting a message that thank you
• 39:22
Speaker 2: so much for sharing your story. It's given me strength
• 39:25
Speaker 2: to share my story. Or sometimes I get a message
• 39:28
Speaker 2: that I'm not there yet, but thank you for sharing
• 39:32
  Speaker 2: because now I don't feel alone. And I think that's
• 39:34
Speaker 2: what's important too, that people, you know, you get in
• 39:37
Speaker 2: these situations and it's the beatdown, the isolation, and you
• 39:42
Speaker 2: do you feel alone and you're like, who do I
• 39:44
Speaker 2: reach out to. And it's hard because a lot of couples,
• 39:47
Speaker 2: you know, your friends are both your friends, so you're
• 39:50
Speaker 2: afraid to let me go tell this person, but then
• 39:52
Speaker 2: they might confront him, and that will only make it
• 39:55
Speaker 2: worse on me. So you're just You're just in a
• 39:58
Speaker 2: tough situation. But this is what's important. People have to
• 40:01
Speaker 2: know that there are organizations in every city that can
• 40:04
Speaker 2: help you, that will help you, that want to help you.
• 40:07
Speaker 2: So please reach out. Don't stay one second longer.
• 40:10
Speaker 3: What's life like today for Christy Martin?
• 40:13
Speaker 2: You know, it's good.
• 40:14
Speaker 3: You know, here's what you can't see on the radio.
• 40:16
Speaker 3: When I asked that question, I said, what's life like today?
• 40:18
Speaker 3: You get the biggest smile on your face. Life is
• 40:20
Speaker 3: good for you right now.
• 40:21
Speaker 2: Life that's good. I mean, here I am in my
• 40:23
Speaker 2: town with my people being recognized for the work that
• 40:28
Speaker 2: I'm doing for domestic violence. As I was telling Russ,
• 40:31
Speaker 2: you know, back in the nineties, I was a little
• 40:33
  Speaker 2: offended sometimes as a fighter, I didn't feel like I
• 40:36
Speaker 2: was getting support from West Virginia. But now I'm getting
• 40:40
  Speaker 2: support as a fighter. But it's not a boxer, it's
• 40:43
Speaker 2: a fighter fighting for domestic violence.
• 40:45
Speaker 3: Awareness and you go into the capitol. I understand today, right, Yes,
• 40:49
Speaker 3: what's your message is going to be there? What are
• 40:50
Speaker 3: you doing with the cast's.
• 40:51
Speaker 2: Going to be the same thing, you know, open your eyes.
• 40:54
Speaker 2: West Virginia is in the top ten of the states
• 40:57
Speaker 2: with domestic violence. That's just the occurrences that are getting reported.
• 41:03
Speaker 2: We need help. We need help, We need help, We
• 41:06
Speaker 2: need funding. We need to be able to fund these
• 41:08
Speaker 2: organizations so that they can get people with housing, with food,
• 41:13
Speaker 2: with helping prepare them for jobs. Just people don't always
• 41:18
Speaker 2: they don't need a hand out. They need to hand up.
• 41:22
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah we do.
• 41:24
Speaker 2: We have Christie's Champs, which at Christie's Champs, what's important
• 41:28
Speaker 2: to me, we put computers. This is the number one
• 41:30
Speaker 2: thing we do. We put computers in local boxing gyms.
• 41:33
Speaker 2: And some people might think boxing gyms and domestic violence
• 41:36
Speaker 2: and that kind of seems weird. But those kids that
• 41:38
Speaker 2: are coming to boxing gyms are not coming from that
• 41:41
Speaker 2: thing the houses that everything's going good in their house.
• 41:43
Speaker 2: They're coming from houses that something's just not right. That's
• 41:47
Speaker 2: why they ended up in boxing gyms. And everybody doesn't
• 41:49
Speaker 2: have the internet at home, they don't have computers at home.
• 41:52
Speaker 2: So here, here's a way that they can do their homework.
• 41:56
Speaker 2: I had a coach call me and say that one
• 41:58
Speaker 2: of the fighters had just done on his college application
• 42:01
Speaker 2: on a computer that we bought. That made me very proud.
• 42:03
Speaker 2: So that you know, it's important. It gives them an opportunity.
• 42:06
Speaker 2: Like I said, with homework, we have tutors coming in
• 42:08
Speaker 2: and things like that in boxing gyps all across the country.
• 42:12
Speaker 2: We also anybody that's in trouble that recently. Had a
• 42:16
Speaker 2: female that was in Austin, Texas, she needed to get
• 42:19
Speaker 2: back here to West Virginia. It was crazy because I
• 42:21
Speaker 2: actually knew some of the people that she knows, and
• 42:24
Speaker 2: so we helped her. Christy Champs helped her get back home.
• 42:28
Speaker 3: We had a text here and we'll let you go.
• 42:29
Speaker 3: So is thank you Christy Martin for representing yourself West
• 42:32
Speaker 3: Virginia's strong women at all of humanity. So well, you're amazing.
• 42:35
Speaker 3: Thank you all right, Christy Martin, I appreciate you being here.
• 42:38
Speaker 3: You're going to make a return parents. I hate to
• 42:39
Speaker 3: tell you what, You're coming back here later today. You're
• 42:41

Speaker 3: She'll be back with us on Monday on the show
• 47:21
Speaker 3: today though Senator Sheldy Moore Capito is here. The Governor
• 47:24
Speaker 3: has an economic development announcement set for one thirty this afternoon,
• 47:28
Speaker 3: and if it works out, that is the plan. We
• 47:31
Speaker 3: are going to try to bring that to you. That
• 47:35
Speaker 3: is the plan anyway, as is tends to be the
• 47:39
Speaker 3: the way it goes sometimes in a world of politics.
• 47:41
Speaker 3: It didn't always work out that way. But if it can,
• 47:43
Speaker 3: if it can work out, Ryan and Stephanie can do it.
• 47:46
Speaker 3: So we're going to try to have the Governor on
• 47:48
Speaker 3: at one thirty this afternoon. Could have some major changes
• 47:50
Speaker 3: coming to the high school transfer rule. We hope to
• 47:53
Speaker 3: have delicate day to Farrelng to talk about that. We'd
• 47:55
Speaker 3: had a scheduled for yesterday's show, but that darned old
• 47:58
Speaker 3: floor session was going long, and so got him or
• 48:00
Speaker 3: someone scheduled to talk about that today. We will talk
• 48:03
Speaker 3: about it one way or the other, because when you
• 48:06
Speaker 3: get to this point within the legislative session and you
• 48:09
Speaker 3: get closer to crossover day next week, who knows what's
• 48:12
Speaker 3: going to happen. Chris Lawrence will be here with the news. TJ.

• 48:21
Speaker 3: know more about that as we get a little bit closer,
• 48:23
Speaker 3: because they are also at the Capitol day and they're

• 49:04
Speaker 3: and Wilson. How we doing, guys, doing great? Wonder doing great?
• 49:07
Speaker 3: All right, I'm sending Christy Martin up there. She just
• 49:11
Speaker 3: left the studio. Uh and she and I'm just gonna
• 49:15
Speaker 3: warn you ahead of time, just so you know. She
• 49:16
Speaker 3: got a film crew with her. So you guys are
• 49:19
Speaker 3: going to be documented. I'm just letting you know. We're
• 49:21
  Speaker 3: documented every day.
• 49:23
  Speaker 2: I know.
• 49:23
Speaker 3: But you're gonna be documented by cameras. You don't control, Okay,
• 49:27
Speaker 3: all right, So I won't pick my nose so they
• 49:30
Speaker 3: won't avoid that, they won't get the bad side of you, buddy,
• 49:34
  Speaker 3: I don't have a.
• 49:34
Speaker 21: Bad side, well every side.
• 49:37
Speaker 6: They need to talk to my agent, Rick, if you're
• 49:39
Speaker 6: listening to expect the call.
• 49:41
Speaker 3: Okay, all right, so I guess the bulk of the
• 49:44
Speaker 3: conversation yesterday in to the Dome Boys was about the
• 49:47
Speaker 3: the about the budget. Did he get a little heated
• 49:50
  Speaker 3: there yesterday? I don't know if I got heated. I
• 49:53
Speaker 3: think there was a whole lot of snarkiness, snarky snarkiness.
• 49:59
Speaker 21: In the discussion and in the presentation about the budget
• 50:02
Speaker 21: with references to Governor Morrissey as his excellency. Vernon Chris
• 50:07
Speaker 21: pointed out very bluntly that he had had no conversations
• 50:10
Speaker 21: with the Governor or his staff about the budget.
• 50:14
Speaker 6: Well, there were a couple of other.
• 50:16
Speaker 21: Snarky comments I think throughout the presentation there, but I
• 50:19
Speaker 21: think it was very clear that there is a let's
• 50:23
Speaker 21: say that there's some tension between the executive branch and
• 50:25
Speaker 21: at least the House of Delegates.
• 50:26
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 50:27
Speaker 6: I give the governor a lot of credit, guys. I
• 50:29
Speaker 6: mean he has brought Vernon Chris and Sean fleu Hardy
• 50:31
Speaker 6: together in a way that I have never seen before.
• 50:33
Speaker 3: Was it you, TJ that put that one on one
• 50:37
Speaker 3: of our our esteem journalists. I don't know whether you
• 50:40
Speaker 3: or one of the others had that picture posted on
• 50:43
Speaker 3: on X of flu Hardy along with Vernon Chris and
• 50:46
Speaker 3: it says that was my doing. I couldn't remember which
• 50:48
Speaker 3: one of you guys it was, but because I actually
• 50:50
Speaker 3: referenented on the show yesterday that said that he was able,
• 50:53
Speaker 3: that the governor was able to bring together Vernon Chris
• 50:56
Speaker 3: and Sean flu Hardy together. So I'd say, next we
• 50:59
Speaker 3: send him to what Ukraine? Next? Send the governor over there?
• 51:02
Speaker 3: You can figure it'd be. But I mean, you know,
• 51:03
Speaker 3: you talk about the House.
• 51:05
Speaker 22: We saw a Democratic amendment yesterday ended the budget for
• 51:09
Speaker 22: twenty five million dollars for flood raw restoration and possibly mitigation,
• 51:14
  Speaker 22: and that passed.
• 51:15
Speaker 6: So again I think the House is pretty aligned on
• 51:19
Speaker 6: where they are with their budget. I mean, you had
• 51:21
Speaker 6: did all the Democrats vote yes? I don't think any
• 51:23
  Speaker 6: Democrat voted no?
• 51:24
  Speaker 1: Yes?
• 51:24
Speaker 6: Fourteen Republicans vote, fourteen Republicans voted to go. Yeah.
• 51:27
Speaker 21: Dare I say borderline functional?
• 51:30
  Speaker 3: Borderline functional? Boys?
• 51:32
  Speaker 6: You still House?
• 51:32
Speaker 3: I was going to say, you still got a ways
• 51:34
Speaker 3: to go. Keep in mind, we still got a week
• 51:35
Speaker 3: in a couple of days left to go in the
• 51:36
Speaker 3: sashturn and you haven't even had crossover day yet. What's
• 51:39
Speaker 3: other than budgets? What are you guys taking a look
• 51:41
  Speaker 3: at today.
• 51:42
Speaker 21: Well in progress? Is the House Finance Committee meeting this morning.
• 51:46
Speaker 21: A couple of things there. Brad mcwhinnie's keeping a close
• 51:48
Speaker 21: eye on. They are discussing House Bill four thousand and one.
• 51:51
Speaker 21: That is Team West Virginia. We've talked a lot about that.
• 51:54
Speaker 21: That is a priority for the speaker. Also, that Hope
• 51:56
Speaker 21: Scholarship bill that rolled out last week and got a
• 51:59
Speaker 21: lot of pushback from special interest groups and homeschool families
• 52:03
Speaker 21: as well, concerned about the possible changes. That is supposed
• 52:05
Speaker 21: to come back up this morning, and we are anticipating
• 52:07
Speaker 21: that will look a lot different than when it rolled
• 52:10
Speaker 21: out last week. So those are the two big things
• 52:11
Speaker 21: over in House Finance we're waiting on this morning.
• 52:14
Speaker 6: I'll go on record, if Team West Virginia doesn't get
• 52:16
Speaker 6: through this session, that will be the biggest failure of
• 52:19
Speaker 6: this legislative session and it will put us yet another
• 52:22
Speaker 6: year behind Ohio and other states that do this.
• 52:25
Speaker 3: I agree with you. What what day is it there?
• 52:27
Speaker 3: Who's who's invading the Capitol day?
• 52:30
Speaker 21: There are a lot of pharmacists here, okay, and it's
• 52:32
Speaker 21: manufacturer's day okay. Bill Beisset's going to join us on
• 52:35
Speaker 21: the show for see the Bill.
