- 0:02And as they were afraid and bowed down their faces to the
- 0:05Earth, they said unto them. Why seek ye the living among the
- 0:09dead. He is not here, but is risen.
- 0:13Hello listeners. This is Nick from scripture
- 0:15Central. And today's podcast addresses,
- 0:17the question did Book of Mormon prophets know about Jesus Christ
- 0:22before his birth Central to all. Of Christianity ancient and
- 0:32modern are the testimonies that Jesus Christ, suffered and died
- 0:35for our sins being crucified. And then resurrected on the
- 0:39third day. According to the Prophet Joseph
- 0:42Smith, the fundamental principles of our religion is
- 0:45the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets concerning, Jesus
- 0:48Christ that he died was buried and rose.
- 0:52Again the third day and ascended up into heaven and all other
- 0:56things are only appendages to these which pertain to our
- 1:00Religion as Christians read the Bible worldwide, it is
- 1:03impossible to avoid the significance of this greatest of
- 1:07all miracles. The Apostle Paul likewise saw
- 1:10this as the core message of the gospel and if Christ be not
- 1:14risen, Paul wrote to the Corinthians, then is our
- 1:17preaching Vain and your faith is also vain, given the importance
- 1:21of such a miracle. It should come as no surprise
- 1:24that the earliest Christians were careful to ensure they left
- 1:28behind credible accounts of the The resurrection as part of the
- 1:31canonical, gospels as NT Wright and Michael F Byrd.
- 1:36Observe it is important to think historically about how the early
- 1:39Traditions about the resurrection might have
- 1:42developed by themselves. Neither the empty tomb nor the
- 1:46resurrection appearances alone could have generated belief in
- 1:50Jesus. Resurrection, had there been no
- 1:52empty to the post-death appearances.
- 1:54Of Jesus could have been more easily dismissed as Visionary,
- 1:58manifestations of his spirit. We're ghosts and had there been
- 2:02no appearance of Jesus to his disciples.
- 2:04The rumor that Jesus is body had been stolen would have provided
- 2:07a straightforward explanation for the empty tomb yet.
- 2:10When viewed together, these two crucial historical events.
- 2:14Recorded in. Great detail in the New
- 2:16Testament gospel accounts. Provide a strong basis for
- 2:20belief first, right? And bird note, how the discovery
- 2:23of the empty tomb as recorded in the four.
- 2:25Gospels is valuable evidence for the Resurrection.
- 2:29The burial of Jesus and the discovery of the empty tomb,
- 2:32they observed can be regarded as historically solid while many
- 2:36victims of crucifixion. Did not receive a proper burial.
- 2:40Roman officials were known to release the bodies of condemned
- 2:43criminals to their families, particularly during festivals,
- 2:46and were probably inclined more often than not to support Jewish
- 2:49burial Customs, to avoid further commotion, such details present
- 2:54in the gospels as seen. When Joseph of Arimathea
- 2:57requested the body of Jesus during Age, As Festival,
- 3:01followed by Pilot allowing Jesus, to be buried properly,
- 3:05the very mention of Joseph of Arimathea is also noteworthy.
- 3:08He was actually a member of the Jewish Sanhedrin who, until this
- 3:12point in the gospels wasn't mentioned at all.
- 3:15Have the story of the burial and Resurrection been invited at a
- 3:18later date. It is unlikely that a Jewish
- 3:21leader would have been mentioned in such a positive light as he
- 3:24could have easily been swapped out for another better-known
- 3:27disciple. The earliest rumors recorded.
- 3:29In Matthew chapter 27, verse 64 about an empty tomb also give
- 3:33credibility to the account of the Resurrection, right?
- 3:36And bird explain if nobody had suggested such a thing prior to
- 3:40Matthew writing his gospel, it is difficult to.
- 3:43Imagine the Christians, putting the idea into people's heads by
- 3:46making up tails that said they had such reports of theft were
- 3:50even still being told in the second century ad.
- 3:53Which of course assumes that the tomb was empty and the body was
- 3:57not to be found based on these details.
- 4:00Scholars argue that the most credible conclusion is that the
- 4:03tomb was actually found empty, the most compelling witness to
- 4:07the resurrection. However, come from those who had
- 4:10personally seen the Risen Jesus with their own eyes without
- 4:14these key Witnesses. The empty tomb could be easily
- 4:17dismissed as fanciful in each of the Gospel accounts.
- 4:21There is evidence that each reflects direct eyewitness
- 4:24accounts of the discovery of the Tomb and seeing the resurrected
- 4:28Lord. For instance, Right?
- 4:30And bird note that each of these gospel accounts remain
- 4:33scripturally unadorned had these new testament accounts been
- 4:37invented at a later date. It is unlikely that they would
- 4:40not appeal to any number of Old, Testament.
- 4:43Prophetic scriptures, something else was shaping The Narrative,
- 4:47a personal encounter to which witness was born a witness,
- 4:50which was thereby rooted in history.
- 4:53The wide breadth of witnesses is also telling in addition to his
- 4:57own witness, Paul told the Corinthians that The Twelve
- 5:00Apostles James, the brother of Jesus, and a group of 500 people
- 5:05had also seen and born testimony.
- 5:08That Jesus Christ was resurrected Paul.
- 5:11Even noted that the greater part of the eyewitnesses remain unto
- 5:15this present, allowing, those who doubted his experience to
- 5:18check with the still living testator's in short, the
- 5:22resurrection was still in the living memory of the church and
- 5:25could not be dismissed without ignoring multitudes of people
- 5:28who had seen. And heard the resurrected Savior
- 5:31for themselves. It is also significant that in
- 5:34the gospel accounts, the very first witness to the
- 5:37resurrection where, the faithful women who attended, Jesus tomb
- 5:40on Sunday morning. It was to these female disciples
- 5:44that the angel declared why seek ye the living among the dead.
- 5:49He is not here, but is risen shortly to be followed by, Jesus
- 5:53appearing to them personally in the ancient world women were
- 5:57viewed as unreliable Witnesses and I could not offer a legally
- 6:01binding testimony as such it is impossible, that a fabricated
- 6:06story in Antiquity would rely on women as the key initial
- 6:10Witnesses, furthermore a wide variety of beliefs about life
- 6:13after death existed in both Judaism and The Wider
- 6:17Greco-Roman World, each tradition accepted the existence
- 6:20of spirits, or ghosts yet, the eyewitnesses make it clear that
- 6:24they did not simply have a Visionary experience where the
- 6:27spirit of Jesus came to them. Jesus Has himself addressed this
- 6:31concern when he asked his disciples.
- 6:33Why are you troubled and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
- 6:37Behold my hands and my feet that it is, I myself handle me and
- 6:43see for a spirit hath, not Flesh and Bones.
- 6:46As ye see me have the apostles, Matthew and John themselves,
- 6:50principal authors of the first, and fourth books of the New
- 6:53Testament gospels, were among those who saw the resurrected
- 6:56Jesus multiple times in Jerusalem, On the shores of the
- 7:00Sea of Galilee up in the designated mountain in Galilee
- 7:04and at his Ascension into heaven from the Mount of Olives between
- 7:08Jerusalem and Bethany. Their testimonies are sealed
- 7:12with Apostolic Authority based on repeated eyewitness
- 7:15experiences. In addition to having these
- 7:18important biblical Witnesses, Latter Day Saints are blessed
- 7:21with even more witnesses of Jesus.
- 7:23Christ's atonement and Resurrection, if the Book of
- 7:26Mormon a multitude of about two thousand and five hundred Souls
- 7:30saw heard and touched Jesus on a full first day of his post
- 7:35mortal Ministry of the Americas. This multitude then spread the
- 7:39word. So that on the following day
- 7:41when he appeared again, the multitude was so great that they
- 7:44did cause that they should be separated into 12 bodies.
- 7:48Jesus would again Minister unto the twelve whom he had selected
- 7:52and three centuries later unto the prophet record makers,
- 7:56Mormon, and Maroney. Other Witnesses of the
- 8:00Resurrection appear in modern times Joseph, Smith saw God, the
- 8:04father and his son Jesus Christ in the sacred grove and Christ
- 8:08appeared on, at least 10 occasions to a total of at least
- 8:11twenty three. Other people in Kirtland, Ohio,
- 8:14the reality of the Lord's Resurrection has continuously
- 8:18been declared by the Latter-Day prophets and apostles of Jesus
- 8:20Christ unto the entire world because of the many reports
- 8:25given of the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- 8:28People everywhere can joyously recognize and embrace their
- 8:32powerful and eternal consequences which benefit the
- 8:35entire Human family as president Dallin a chokes taught.
- 8:40The resurrection gives us the perspective and the strength to
- 8:43endure the Mortal challenges faced by each of us.
- 8:46And those we love it gives us a new way to view the physical
- 8:51mental or emotional deficiencies.
- 8:53We have at Birth or acquired during Mortal life, it gives us
- 8:57the strength to To Adorn Sorrows failures and frustrations
- 9:02because each of us has an assured Resurrection.
- 9:05We know that these mortal deficiencies and opposition's
- 9:09are only temporary knowledge of the Resurrection gives people
- 9:13the reason for the hope that is in you the profitability taught.
- 9:17And if Christ had not risen from the dead, there could have been
- 9:20no Resurrection but there is a resurrection therefore the grave
- 9:24hath, no Victory. And the sting of death is
- 9:27swallowed up in Swallowed up in the hopes of his glory because
- 9:32Jesus Christ rose from the dead. The promise of Resurrection is
- 9:36guaranteed to all of God's children, the resurrection of
- 9:40Jesus Christ gives us hope it is the reason that we can have hope
- 9:44even as we Face challenges and trials because of the
- 9:47Resurrection we can see our loved ones again a parent who
- 9:51has a Lost Child, the child who has lost their parents, those
- 9:56who have never known their ancestors.
- 9:59All of these will be able to have the hope of a future,
- 10:02joyous reunions with them and the Lord in a future day.
- 10:06Ultimately, the hope of the Resurrection is what of peace
- 10:09and joy with no more sorrow. He will swallow up death in
- 10:13Victory and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off All
- 10:17Phases and the rebuke of his people.
- 10:20Shall he take away from off all the Earth for the Lord hath
- 10:24spoken it? Such is the promise of the
- 10:27Savior, Jesus Christ in the world.
- 10:30Ye shall have tribulation but be of good cheer.
