- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:45Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, thirteen
- 0:48Speaker 1: years strong. Got a great show coming your way this week.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I'm Jeff Warren as always, and I'm here with my
- 0:54Speaker 1: good buddy Eric Leonard. If you're watching on YouTube YouTube
- 0:57Speaker 1: better known as Edgecombe Stan my friend.
- 1:00Speaker 2: How you doing, buddy, I'm good. What do we have
- 1:03Speaker 2: to talk about?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, Uh, there was a lot of crap
- 1:09Speaker 1: this past a couple of weeks in the world of
- 1:12Speaker 1: Philly sport.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Not too much on the field of the court for
- 1:15Speaker 2: the ice, but.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 1:18Speaker 2: A weird period right now.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we're we're of course going to get into the
- 1:22Speaker 1: Sixers right off the bat, and just to let folks know,
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna get into some listener feedback to
- 1:26Speaker 1: as it pertains to Adam Silver and the NBA, and
- 1:30Speaker 1: we're gonna dive into some Phillies talk too. But you know,
- 1:33Speaker 1: we haven't necessarily dove into the Philadelphia Eagles in their
- 1:35Speaker 1: off season. That's what we're thrown down on the table
- 1:37Speaker 1: this week. We've got Shane Half from the Eagles Pinpool Network.
- 1:41Speaker 1: He's going to join us for some Eagles offseason talking
- 1:43Speaker 1: storylines that we're following on the offense and defense. But man, like,
- 1:47Speaker 1: holy cow, I mean seeing the Sixers get swept, seeing
- 1:51Speaker 1: the Flyers get swept this past week, I mean, what
- 1:54Speaker 1: a gut punch it was. Man, it was like I
- 1:57Speaker 1: was I wasn't expecting sweeps, to be honest with you,
- 2:00Speaker 1: and it was just like, oh my gosh, we're watching this.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's tough because you know, but the Flyers,
- 2:10Speaker 2: that's to positive momentum, haven't been in the playoffs and
- 2:13Speaker 2: how long or even want a series? And how long?
- 2:15Speaker 2: And that was a lot of fun. That one was
- 2:18Speaker 2: by far less disappointing, I would say, because you ran
- 2:22Speaker 2: into just an absolute freaking juggernaut who's probably they're gonna
- 2:25Speaker 2: play Colorado, right, that's gotta be the thing, And they're
- 2:29Speaker 2: just I would have hoped they at least like the
- 2:31Speaker 2: front office is like, all right, we have a work
- 2:34Speaker 2: cutout for us, But man, what what good momentum we
- 2:36Speaker 2: have going to the next season, Like that's all. It's
- 2:38Speaker 2: honestly just a positive it is, and getting swept is good.
- 2:42Speaker 2: It's like a lot of fire under the young guy's
- 2:44Speaker 2: asses for next year as that pantherst Panthers, Carolina. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 2: just terrible names in hockey especial like the the Golden
- 2:56Speaker 2: Knights is just terrib like just it stinks, yes, but
- 3:00Speaker 2: maybe it's good. They got swept, tons of good momentum
- 3:03Speaker 2: going to next year. But the Sixers, man.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Let's get into them right off of that here, dude.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I mean, they got bounced in a shutout series against
- 3:10Speaker 1: the New York Knicks again. Second round. It was just
- 3:14Speaker 1: so tough to watch. And I think part of the
- 3:16Speaker 1: reason it was so tough to watch, Eric, is because
- 3:18Speaker 1: we had this some we had this sense of hope
- 3:21Speaker 1: after the first round in them taking care of business
- 3:24Speaker 1: against the Boston Celtics, that man, this team may be
- 3:28Speaker 1: here to play in these postseason games. And man, it
- 3:33Speaker 1: just didn't happen. And I think I think that was
- 3:35Speaker 1: the surprising part of it. And there were times where
- 3:38Speaker 1: we saw some fight and we did see some grit
- 3:40Speaker 1: every now and again, but at the end of the day,
- 3:43Speaker 1: just completely falling short again after winning that first round
- 3:47Speaker 1: series against Boston, it was just it was more of
- 3:50Speaker 1: a shock for me. And I'm not necessarily shocked that
- 3:53Speaker 1: they lost the series. It's how they actually lost the series,
- 3:57Speaker 1: so that let's get it started there.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the Boston thing was a lot of fun.
- 4:03Speaker 2: They finally beat that team in game seven, came back,
- 4:07Speaker 2: you know, down three to one. Yes, pretty amazing to
- 4:09Speaker 2: watch a lot of it though. I mean the Sixers
- 4:13Speaker 2: played their asses off to play really well. But the
- 4:15Speaker 2: Boston coach I think just just he what's the term,
- 4:20Speaker 2: just collapsed yea, he it. Whatever he tried to do
- 4:25Speaker 2: really backfired and it allowed the Sixers in Game seven
- 4:28Speaker 2: to get a lot of momentumy I think he started.
- 4:31Speaker 2: There was the first time in playoff history, three guys,
- 4:33Speaker 2: three starters didn't score a point in the game for
- 4:36Speaker 2: the Celtics, which is like that's break.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but you know, they played a much better team
- 4:42Speaker 2: the next round, and my god, I have some notes here,
- 4:47Speaker 2: like the next defense was just astounding. They and we
- 4:50Speaker 2: also they were hotter than us honestly going into that
- 4:55Speaker 2: second round. Yeah, you know, they they absolutely took care
- 4:58Speaker 2: of business. And then after one, I would have not
- 5:02Speaker 2: played embiid just just me. I would have waited game two.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And that was a bad sign that they got blown
- 5:09Speaker 2: out in game one when they lost game three, it
- 5:11Speaker 2: was you knew the magic was done.
- 5:13Speaker 1: It was over.
- 5:15Speaker 2: They had Embiid O g Og didn't play for the Knicks,
- 5:18Speaker 2: and the fact that they couldn't, like I couldn't win
- 5:20Speaker 2: that game was it was really the nail, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: the death knell.
- 5:23Speaker 1: But they were hitting every three, by the way, in
- 5:25Speaker 1: game four, hitting every three. It was amazing and I
- 5:29Speaker 1: actually thought, I actually thought that was probably the best
- 5:31Speaker 1: Knicks game that they've ever played in their entire existence.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, they really took it to us. And Brunston was
- 5:37Speaker 2: the best player on the floor all four games, better
- 5:39Speaker 2: than Maxi, better than Bide. And they way they defended Embiid,
- 5:43Speaker 2: they they you know, Mike, I got to give kudos
- 5:46Speaker 2: to Mike Brown, the Knicks coach. He they really defended
- 5:49Speaker 2: Embiid in a different way than the Celtics did. They
- 5:51Speaker 2: just they didn't let him just park his ass down
- 5:53Speaker 2: on the post and just create havoc and allowed you know,
- 5:56Speaker 2: shooters to to go off the three point line. They
- 6:00Speaker 2: defended them extremely well and kind of they they the
- 6:07Speaker 2: the Sixers slowed the game down against Boston, and it
- 6:10Speaker 2: was to Boston's detriment, but like it got even slower
- 6:14Speaker 2: with the Knicks, which was absolutely to the Knicks advantage.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Man, oh a much much better team one. And I
- 6:24Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't like to see the blowout. I
- 6:26Speaker 2: didn't like to see seventy five percent Knicks fans in
- 6:29Speaker 2: the crowd in Game four.
- 6:30Speaker 1: What the hell? I'm glad you mentioned it, dude, because
- 6:33Speaker 1: like even Embid coming into the series was saying, look,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I got money, you know if people need if people
- 6:39Speaker 1: need it, we need to make sure Sixers fans are
- 6:42Speaker 1: in the building. Dude. This is a fucking narrative that's
- 6:44Speaker 1: going to be here now for years and years and years,
- 6:47Speaker 1: regardless of what happens to this team. I'm talking regular
- 6:49Speaker 1: season games. Knicks fans are going to be coming down
- 6:52Speaker 1: to Philly and just wreaking havoc in the Exfinity Mobile
- 6:55Speaker 1: Arena at this point or wherever they're going to be playing.
- 6:59Speaker 1: This is going to be a a theme that is
- 7:01Speaker 1: going to be a pain in the ass for years
- 7:02Speaker 1: to come. Yeah.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And you know, unfortunately we lost one of our great
- 7:07Speaker 2: celebrity fans. M Night gave Timothy's Chalameze tickets and it
- 7:14Speaker 2: was noticeable. I noticed it. And you're off the list
- 7:17Speaker 2: now of Sixers celebrity fans, yep, officially, even though you're
- 7:21Speaker 2: gonna be sitting next year. But the way it fell apart,
- 7:25Speaker 2: the way they lost, the way it was such a
- 7:28Speaker 2: non crescendo to the season and actually it was really embarrassing,
- 7:32Speaker 2: is definitely a microcosm of our next topic. And Darryl Mory,
- 7:37Speaker 2: and I would say more so the owner.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So I love, yeah, I know. It's just a dead
- 7:45Speaker 1: silence there for a second because while Darryl Mory has
- 7:48Speaker 1: been fired, good, we're I think we're all glad as
- 7:52Speaker 1: Sixers fans. There needs to be a change in the
- 7:54Speaker 1: front office. But you said it when it comes to
- 7:56Speaker 1: Josh Harris, the guy who is not only in the
- 8:01Speaker 1: Epstein files, but who has really seemed like.
- 8:04Speaker 2: He beat me to it.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Oh I did.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I'm just just gonna put it out there, the man.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead, go ahead.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Seriously, he's in those files more than once. I'm just
- 8:13Speaker 2: gonna say it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: A lot more than once. And who cares? And no, no,
- 8:17Speaker 1: out there, this is not political. No, this is a
- 8:20Speaker 1: reality thing. This is fact, This is truth. This is
- 8:24Speaker 1: not something made up. It's not political either. This is
- 8:28Speaker 1: a true fucking story. So for those of you listening
- 8:32Speaker 1: out there getting your panties bunched up. Stop stop, Daryl
- 8:36Speaker 1: Mory going. But Josh Harris, one of our good friends
- 8:39Speaker 1: of the podcast who lives down in Florida. His name's Patrick.
- 8:43Speaker 1: He's been on actually a couple times, and he actually said,
- 8:47Speaker 1: you know, why can't Jeffrey Lurry just buy the Sixers
- 8:50Speaker 1: and be the owner of the Sixers from here on out?
- 8:53Speaker 1: And it was like the way he said it, it
- 8:54Speaker 1: was like the it was like the tweet of the month.
- 8:57Speaker 1: It really was, because Josh Harrison and give a shit
- 9:00Speaker 1: about this team, this organization, this city at all. He's
- 9:04Speaker 1: a recent purchaser of the Washington Commanders. He certainly cares
- 9:08Speaker 1: about that team. And maybe maybe he doesn't, you know,
- 9:11Speaker 1: maybe that that'll wayne itself at some point down the road.
- 9:15Speaker 1: But this is an owner who really does not care.
- 9:18Speaker 1: He doesn't care, and that's a huge problem when you
- 9:21Speaker 1: have owners in cities who are who are just making hands,
- 9:28Speaker 1: hands over fists. Is that the right phrase, money like
- 9:32Speaker 1: making money hand over fists?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Is that the right phrase? So? Yes, yes, yes, thank you.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Usually kind of good with phrases on that one. I
- 9:39Speaker 1: really bombed, of course, but he doesn't care. He doesn't
- 9:43Speaker 1: care about winning championships, obviously, and that's a problem that
- 9:48Speaker 1: is a problem overall for US sports fans and US
- 9:50Speaker 1: Sixers fans.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's not even not even necessarily those files.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And by the way, it's not political at all. It
- 9:59Speaker 2: just speaks to the man's character. Yes, it speaks to
- 10:02Speaker 2: what does he actually care about? It just seems to
- 10:05Speaker 2: be about money. Really, I'm sure he cares about the
- 10:07Speaker 2: Commanders because an NFL franchise is far more important than
- 10:10Speaker 2: a basketball franchise to most owners. Whoever's like owned two
- 10:14Speaker 2: teams at the same time. The Sixers are not his
- 10:17Speaker 2: priority whatsoever. I don't think the man understands basketball at all,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and we shouldn't even be talking about him, but unfortunately
- 10:24Speaker 2: we are, because he's the one that allowed this to
- 10:27Speaker 2: go on for so long, and he's also the one
- 10:29Speaker 2: that kind of hamstrung Maury. Let me just speak about
- 10:32Speaker 2: morey quick. I'll get back to Josh.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, the man did just did some good things.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You know, he did draft McCain, He drafted Maxie. Although
- 10:42Speaker 2: everything I read now is Elton Brand kind of drafted Maxie.
- 10:45Speaker 2: I mean Maury was only there for like two weeks
- 10:47Speaker 2: when the draft happened.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but I.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Don't want to take away too much, like you know,
- 10:53Speaker 2: I don't want to take away too much credit. Let
- 10:56Speaker 2: go well, and I was gonna say he also made
- 10:59Speaker 2: some bad, some some serious mistakes, cutting Isaiah Joe or
- 11:05Speaker 2: trading away Isaiah Joe, cutting Champagne Champagne because his name
- 11:09Speaker 2: for the Spurs. Yeah, so Mac McClung could be in
- 11:12Speaker 2: a friggin dunk competition. By the way, I'm mentioning players
- 11:16Speaker 2: that are still in the playoffs. By the way, yes,
- 11:18Speaker 2: he held on to Tobias Harris for way too long.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Another guy is still in the playoffs. The McCain trade,
- 11:24Speaker 2: which was the Dwayne Deadman signing, was just outrageous. Yes,
- 11:28Speaker 2: the guy was a corpse three years prior to the signing. Yes,
- 11:31Speaker 2: So like the McCain thing though, was you know, one
- 11:35Speaker 2: of the one of the death knells for for him.
- 11:39Speaker 2: But the two big ones were the contracts, the contract
- 11:42Speaker 2: extension for embiide in the contract for for Paul George,
- 11:45Speaker 2: which at the time made sense.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Were we're honest on this show, We're honest on the show.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And the Paul George one. We were like, okay, we're
- 11:55Speaker 1: understanding this. We were for it now. I just want
- 11:58Speaker 1: to throw that out there.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Plus there's also the side effect of him constantly talking
- 12:02Speaker 2: about himself as kind of a genius, you know, And
- 12:04Speaker 2: if you don't make genius moves over and over and
- 12:06Speaker 2: over and you don't have any rings to show for it,
- 12:09Speaker 2: eventually you're you're, you're, you're, your your your bid gets
- 12:14Speaker 2: a little old, you know, people get tired of it.
- 12:18Speaker 2: But it is this is more of an ownership disaster
- 12:20Speaker 2: than a GM because the the owner is the one
- 12:24Speaker 2: that pushed for him year after year after year to
- 12:27Speaker 2: stay under the tax. Like the really good teams that
- 12:30Speaker 2: have won titles are all over the tax, are right
- 12:32Speaker 2: at the apron, and are still making moves to stand
- 12:36Speaker 2: under the second apron, but over the first one, to
- 12:38Speaker 2: keep their teams good and intact.
- 12:40Speaker 1: And he could afford me. He could afford it. By
- 12:42Speaker 1: the way, talking about he could afford it.
- 12:45Speaker 2: They could have dropped. I think Maury was told to
- 12:48Speaker 2: get under the tax. I think he looked at his
- 12:51Speaker 2: roster and he's like, who the hell am I going
- 12:52Speaker 2: to trade away to stand under the tax? Whose actual value,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I can actually get something back. McCain was the only one,
- 12:59Speaker 2: you know, so like you know, in theory, on paper,
- 13:02Speaker 2: it's like, well, this is the one guy we can
- 13:04Speaker 2: trade and actually get a pickback. But you watch him
- 13:07Speaker 2: in the playoffs, you watch him the whole year long,
- 13:09Speaker 2: and what the Sixers need, and it's like, well, that
- 13:11Speaker 2: was a horrible decision. But he was also forced his
- 13:14Speaker 2: hand was kind of forced by Josh Harris, who actually
- 13:18Speaker 2: this past year, even without the Epstein stuff, like kind
- 13:21Speaker 2: of recognized as one of the worst owners in sports. Yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 2: Like I when I saw, you know, when the More
- 13:27Speaker 2: news broke, like a lot of people on Twitter were like,
- 13:30Speaker 2: this guy is one of the worst owners in sports.
- 13:32Speaker 2: And I'm going through the list of what people are
- 13:34Speaker 2: putting down, I'm like, yeah, no, they're right. He might
- 13:36Speaker 2: be the worst one in basketball, Like the Portland owner
- 13:39Speaker 2: of the new Guy, he's already is already he's already
- 13:42Speaker 2: threatening to move the team. So he might be worse
- 13:44Speaker 2: than Harris, but but he doesn't care about the sport.
- 13:48Speaker 2: His only concern is money and staying under the tax.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And part of it too, is like he kept Nick
- 13:54Speaker 2: Nurse around. How does that make any sense you're going
- 13:57Speaker 2: to bring in a whole new front office and you're
- 13:59Speaker 2: going to keep the coach. No new front office like
- 14:02Speaker 2: Nurse is not safe. Let's just put that out there now.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Any new front office is going to want to make
- 14:08Speaker 2: a decision at coach. And if Nick Nurse passes all
- 14:11Speaker 2: the interviews or whatever, fine, But that alone tells me
- 14:15Speaker 2: I don't think Harris wants to pay two coaches at
- 14:17Speaker 2: the same time because he's cheap. Yeah, and I think
- 14:20Speaker 2: that's part of the reason Nurse stuck around. I honestly
- 14:22Speaker 2: think that.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So it's crazy, really quick. It's so crazy the phrase
- 14:26Speaker 1: you just said, because it's true from a multi billionaire
- 14:31Speaker 1: that the guy is cheap like it is. It is
- 14:34Speaker 1: crazy to me, and it should be for everybody listening
- 14:37Speaker 1: to this as well. I never tell people how to
- 14:39Speaker 1: feel or what they should think, ever, but that should
- 14:42Speaker 1: be crazy to everybody, that a multi billionaire guy is cheap.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I just it boggles my mind. It just does.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Look wealth doesn't buy class is a huge thing that
- 14:55Speaker 2: I've learned in the past, however, like thirty years of
- 14:57Speaker 2: my life, and also wealthy people are sometimes cheap and
- 15:02Speaker 2: in class lists and he strikes me as one of
- 15:05Speaker 2: those people. And he already has the target on his
- 15:08Speaker 2: back of being the worst owner or one of the
- 15:10Speaker 2: maybe the worst owner of the NBA, and uh, that's
- 15:13Speaker 2: not going to go away. But at the same time,
- 15:15Speaker 2: unfortunately that wealth makes him like, I don't care. You
- 15:19Speaker 2: can see whatever you want. I'm worth billions of dollars.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I don't give a shit. This is just a tax
- 15:23Speaker 2: right off this team to me, and I can sit
- 15:25Speaker 2: courtside and hang out with my millionaire billionaire buddies. And
- 15:28Speaker 2: somehow we all of a sudden have one of the
- 15:32Speaker 2: worst owners in sports in Philadelphia. It happened. It happened quietly,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but like, I think it's finally we've reached that point.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And keeping Nurse and not wanting to pay another coach
- 15:41Speaker 2: is screams like he's a cheap ass.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Let us know what you're thinking about.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Leave us a comment below. If you're watching on YouTube
- 15:50Speaker 1: about the Sixers team, the organization, where they are going
- 15:53Speaker 1: in the future. Oh, somebody's got a nose blow there.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Do your kids get sick?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Oh?
- 16:02Speaker 2: I know it's over the worse and you got two
- 16:04Speaker 2: at the same age. Yeah, going to school and bringing
- 16:06Speaker 2: shit back.
- 16:07Speaker 1: My one daughter's got a throat like she had a
- 16:09Speaker 1: major throat ache and stuff. I think it's a lot
- 16:11Speaker 1: of like sinus drippage and stuff like that. Yeah, but really,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and then I started feeling it this morning. I'm like,
- 16:16Speaker 1: oh no, no, no, So all right, we're gonna take
- 16:20Speaker 1: a break, folks, and when we get back, we're gonna
- 16:23Speaker 1: be getting into some listener feedback about the Sixers. Specifically,
- 16:27Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some Phillies talk and some Eagles
- 16:29Speaker 1: talk as well. By the way, we're also going to
- 16:31Speaker 1: be doing our newer segment love to See It, Hate
- 16:35Speaker 1: to See It. We'll be back in just a bit,
- 16:40Speaker 1: all right, now, don't we get into some listener feedback
- 16:44Speaker 1: from our good friend Patrick and I should have had
- 16:49Speaker 1: this already. Good back. I don't even think I sent
- 16:51Speaker 1: you the email. I stink. I'm just realizing it right now.
- 16:54Speaker 2: You did not. I was just gonna kind of wing
- 16:55Speaker 2: it here.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Boy, what a dope, What a complete dope I am.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But our good friend and Patrick B who writes us
- 17:02Speaker 1: every now and again over at Philadelphia Sports Table at
- 17:05Speaker 1: gmail dot com, said hey, guys, I was curious your
- 17:09Speaker 1: take on the Tim alberta article in The Atlantic Adam
- 17:13Speaker 1: Silver goes to war in some ways, the NBA has
- 17:17Speaker 1: never been bigger, But the article makes some compelling points.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Like many Silver doubters, I believe he's disadvantaged the Sixers
- 17:25Speaker 1: and coming down on Darryl Mory when he was with
- 17:27Speaker 1: Houston for his comments on Hong Kong were extremely absurd.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Hope you're all good. I'm not sure Eric, if you
- 17:35Speaker 1: read the article. And again, Patrick, thanks so much for
- 17:38Speaker 1: sending us some listener feedback there, because I think it's
- 17:41Speaker 1: an important discussion to have for professional basketball fans, NBA
- 17:46Speaker 1: fans about the guy who's running the ship at the Helm,
- 17:51Speaker 1: what he's meant to the organization, what he's meant to
- 17:55Speaker 1: the state of basketball in terms of the product that
- 17:57Speaker 1: they're putting out on the court. It was interesting how
- 18:01Speaker 1: Patrick just mentioned how he really came down on Daryl
- 18:04Speaker 1: Morey for those comments about Hong Kong, and he's come
- 18:07Speaker 1: down on Daryl Moury with comments concerning China and things
- 18:11Speaker 1: like that as well. So Adam Silver doesn't mind getting
- 18:14Speaker 1: involved with the you know, the geopolitical aspects of how
- 18:17Speaker 1: the NBA has looked at throughout the world. But in
- 18:21Speaker 1: terms of this article, it's just it's a guy who
- 18:25Speaker 1: truly does understand the business aspect of the NBA and
- 18:30Speaker 1: also excuses certain aspects of the NBA that certain of
- 18:34Speaker 1: us don't really care for, whether it's flopping or whether
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's guys actually getting into getting into fights on the court,
- 18:42Speaker 1: how it's good for the entertainment part and brand of
- 18:46Speaker 1: who the NBA is. It was an interesting article, and
- 18:50Speaker 1: I honestly I'm not sure if I would I would
- 18:52Speaker 1: have read it if not for Patrick's email to us,
- 18:55Speaker 1: So I don't know what were your thoughts here.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Well, I didn't read the article because I don't have
- 18:59Speaker 2: an Atlantic subscription, nor did I get the email from you,
- 19:03Speaker 2: So I stink. But I can. I can definitely speak
- 19:08Speaker 2: to Adam Silver. Yeah, and he's pretty much like any
- 19:12Speaker 2: other commissioner. I think he's more available, a little more
- 19:16Speaker 2: communicative and open than some of the other commissioners. Yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 2: I do respect him for that. If there's a problem,
- 19:24Speaker 2: he does typically address it head on. I mean, the
- 19:31Speaker 2: they put flopping rules in place, aren't they're not They're not.
- 19:37Speaker 2: The rest aren't calling that crap? But right, he did
- 19:41Speaker 2: put some stuff in place. He did address the tanking thing.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I don't think it's gonna work.
- 19:46Speaker 1: The last time you were on.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Yeah, he at least addresses this stuff. But he definitely
- 19:54Speaker 2: he you know, he's like any commissioner, he's all about
- 19:57Speaker 2: He's all about the owners honestly that that's who he
- 20:00Speaker 2: works for. It's not necessarily the league. I think he
- 20:03Speaker 2: does a I think overall he does a pretty good
- 20:06Speaker 2: job as a commissioner, not in terms of like taking
- 20:09Speaker 2: care of the billionaires room the teams, but like taking
- 20:12Speaker 2: care of the product on the court yea and globally
- 20:15Speaker 2: because that's a big deal. But the fact that he
- 20:18Speaker 2: came down hard on Darryl Mourray because of the Hong
- 20:22Speaker 2: Kong stuff in China, but doesn't come down hard on
- 20:26Speaker 2: any of the owners of the owner of the owner
- 20:30Speaker 2: who was employing Daryl Morey at the time, didn't come
- 20:32Speaker 2: down hard on him. The fact that you know some
- 20:37Speaker 2: of his owners are probably in the Epstein files. I'm
- 20:40Speaker 2: just bringing it up again because it's a bad look.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Can be as big about PR, huge about PR and
- 20:47Speaker 2: nothing happened with those with those guys either, And it's
- 20:49Speaker 2: just never going to because you know, he was worried
- 20:52Speaker 2: about Hong Kong and China because of finances.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, I don't.
- 20:55Speaker 2: He didn't care about anything else.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Expanding the brand that's going to bring in more billions
- 20:59Speaker 1: and billions of time to the NBA.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and the owners are smart enough, that's the same thing,
- 21:04Speaker 2: because they're all about money. Morey's a little more out
- 21:07Speaker 2: there and speaks his mind. But you know the fact
- 21:10Speaker 2: that that's ultimately who Silver answers to, you know, makes
- 21:14Speaker 2: me he's doing his job honestly. And I you know,
- 21:19Speaker 2: I think I think Darrel will get another job. I
- 21:22Speaker 2: think maybe Daryl's a little older and won't won't talk
- 21:24Speaker 2: about that kind of stuff anymore. But as far as
- 21:27Speaker 2: Silver goes, you know, he'll come. He'll continue to come
- 21:30Speaker 2: down on players and gms who speak up like that,
- 21:33Speaker 2: but he's never gonna touch any owners at all.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah. I think it's a great point. It's a great point.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And Patrick, thank you so much for taking the time
- 21:41Speaker 1: to email us, folks. If you want to reach out
- 21:43Speaker 1: over email, uh sometimes we're able to bring those emails
- 21:46Speaker 1: to the show. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com
- 21:50Speaker 1: would love to hear from you. And if you're watching
- 21:52Speaker 1: on YouTube again, leave us a comment below. Would love
- 21:55Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on Adam Silver, the NBA and
- 22:00Speaker 1: so the direction of the league. Let's now dive into
- 22:04Speaker 1: Eric the fact that there's no more Flyers hockey, there's
- 22:08Speaker 1: no more Sixers basketball, so we now have the Philadelphia
- 22:12Speaker 1: Phillies to look forward to. This is a team now
- 22:16Speaker 1: that is in third place here at twenty and twenty
- 22:19Speaker 1: three as of us recording this here on Thursday, May fourteenth,
- 22:25Speaker 1: and third place in the NL East, and this team
- 22:29Speaker 1: is going through some ups and downs for sure, So
- 22:31Speaker 1: we just wanted to talk about some overall thoughts what
- 22:33Speaker 1: we've seen from the Phillies as of late. And I
- 22:36Speaker 1: gotta say, it's so great to see Zach Wheeler back
- 22:39Speaker 1: and in action and him just having such an incredibly
- 22:43Speaker 1: dominant performance this past week. He pitched seven and a
- 22:48Speaker 1: third innings of one run baseball that led to the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Phillies two to one win over the Red Sox. In
- 22:54Speaker 1: that matchup, he pitched into the eighth inning for the
- 22:57Speaker 1: first time this year, and it's great to see him
- 23:01Speaker 1: what appears to be back to normal here and providing
- 23:06Speaker 1: some more stability that's absolutely needed with this starting rotation.
- 23:09Speaker 1: So That's where I kind of wanted to go here
- 23:11Speaker 1: because we've also got Andrew Paynter as well. Coming into
- 23:14Speaker 1: his recent start, he had eight I think it was
- 23:17Speaker 1: eight point zero zero e r A. It's been tough.
- 23:20Speaker 1: It's been tough for him, and I don't think anybody
- 23:22Speaker 1: thought it was gonna be perfect for Andrew Paynter, but
- 23:24Speaker 1: having Zach Wheeler back into the fold really stabilized as
- 23:28Speaker 1: a starting rotation.
- 23:28Speaker 2: It's really good to see. I thank god he's back.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I mean you look at their their their top five starters.
- 23:35Speaker 2: It's you know, Noel, Zarto and Painter. I'll have Era's
- 23:40Speaker 2: over five. Yeah for the season. Telling you that was
- 23:44Speaker 2: arta contract, I know.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You keep saying it, you keep saying it. Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Well he's he's going today against Ranger tonight. This should
- 23:51Speaker 2: be a fun game. Yeah, but thank god for Wheeler's comeback.
- 23:55Speaker 2: And Sanchez is kind of Sanchez had a couple of
- 23:58Speaker 2: what two Harry starts this year, but for the most
- 24:00Speaker 2: part he's been he's been good. You're gonna need both
- 24:03Speaker 2: those guys because your other three are just in the
- 24:06Speaker 2: toilet right now. Do they make a move at some point,
- 24:10Speaker 2: I don't know. But I honestly, I'm gonna start watching
- 24:12Speaker 2: again tonight. You know, every year the Sixers. I didn't
- 24:16Speaker 2: have to deal with the Flyers playoff losses in the
- 24:19Speaker 2: past because they just weren't in the playoffs. So right, typically,
- 24:23Speaker 2: when the Sixers lose in the playoffs, which is every
- 24:25Speaker 2: frigging year, I used to take a week off from
- 24:27Speaker 2: the Phillies, little spring break from myself. There you go,
- 24:31Speaker 2: even if they're playing well, you know, but like so,
- 24:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna get back in them tonight. But they're obviously
- 24:37Speaker 2: responding to maddingly and that that's very that's very apparent.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I don't know what it is with baseball players. That
- 24:43Speaker 2: seems to be the one sport where you get rid
- 24:45Speaker 2: of the coach and then all of a sudden, oh,
- 24:48Speaker 2: this guy's different. We're gonna win ten in a row.
- 24:51Speaker 2: It happens like that, and the Phillies kind of did it.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I don't know why. RTI walks out the building and
- 24:56Speaker 2: all of a sudden they have batten like three hundred
- 24:58Speaker 2: and three fifty as a team.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Brandon marsh is like the best hitter in baseball somehow
- 25:02Speaker 1: at this point, well.
- 25:03Speaker 2: The splits the last fourteen days, Schwarber, Marsh, Crawford and
- 25:06Speaker 2: Bomb we're all crushing the ball. I was looking at
- 25:09Speaker 2: the splits. I'm like, what the hell is going on?
- 25:11Speaker 2: And Stott had a great game last two nights ago.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Did you notice, by the way, on Mother's Day, Bomb
- 25:18Speaker 2: was the only player that didn't wear the past Yes?
- 25:22Speaker 2: You know why right?
- 25:23Speaker 1: Why didn't he wear it?
- 25:25Speaker 2: Oh he's suing his parents for like, oh that's why.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh my gosh, that's right.
- 25:30Speaker 2: That.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yes, I assu in his parents because they apparently allegedly
- 25:33Speaker 1: allegedly steal money from him. I am I love.
- 25:38Speaker 2: That and I didn't even think of it, but I
- 25:39Speaker 2: actually watched some of the game and I'm like, I
- 25:42Speaker 2: saw it on Twitter later, I'm like, oh that makes sense. Yeah,
- 25:47Speaker 2: just a little aside there. I thought that was yeah, yeah,
- 25:50Speaker 2: not for him. I think it was still like three
- 25:51Speaker 2: million allegedly unbelieved. No, but the team's responding, And you know,
- 25:56Speaker 2: it's weird that Alex Chorus stuff that cropped up the
- 25:59Speaker 2: first three days after they fired. Our te just died.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I don't know if it's because Mattingly's doing such a
- 26:06Speaker 2: good job, but like I guess Maddenly's just the guy now, Like, yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 2: that was that was like, well, they're gonna hire Korra.
- 26:13Speaker 1: That just knows, well, how can you how can you
- 26:15Speaker 1: bring in Kora if you're seeing success and wins and
- 26:19Speaker 1: now you thought Zach Wheeler back in the fold, then
- 26:21Speaker 1: if you've got Kyle Schwarber who's absolutely murdering baseballs and
- 26:25Speaker 1: and which by the way, I wanted to get into.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I mean, obviously with the All Star Game in Philadelphia,
- 26:31Speaker 1: like he's gonna he's got to be in the home
- 26:33Speaker 1: run Derby, right, and that's gonna have to be, Like,
- 26:37Speaker 1: that's gonna be a crazy thing to watch. It really
- 26:40Speaker 1: is in Philly, him and the home run Derby, that's
- 26:42Speaker 1: gonna be. That's gonna be something.
- 26:44Speaker 2: It is. And you know what's amazing about baseball players,
- 26:47Speaker 2: Guys have been playing for forever. They I was watching
- 26:51Speaker 2: MLB Network and they talked about Schwarber recently just made
- 26:53Speaker 2: a quick little adjustment to a swing. Yeah, And I
- 26:57Speaker 2: watched it, and I'm like, I get that, but like
- 27:00Speaker 2: and then then he just rakes for five straight days
- 27:02Speaker 2: and hits like five straight games of the home run yeah,
- 27:05Speaker 2: And I'm like, this guy's been playing for his whole life, right,
- 27:09Speaker 2: he makes one, but it's so cool that he's actually
- 27:12Speaker 2: like players are still willing to make a little tweaks
- 27:15Speaker 2: to their swing, even like fourteen years new a career,
- 27:18Speaker 2: and all of a sudden he's blasting five home runs
- 27:20Speaker 2: a game. So like, I guess that's for us older guys.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Older people like don't don't be afraid of change, but like,
- 27:27Speaker 2: I just find baseball so interesting that way. But the
- 27:30Speaker 2: good thing was I wanted to mention this quick with
- 27:32Speaker 2: the Phillies, Yeah, Schwarber has to be the home run derby,
- 27:35Speaker 2: there's no doubt. To press your point. I mean, it's
- 27:38Speaker 2: in Philly, for God's sake, like mine. But they're twenty
- 27:43Speaker 2: and twenty three. The good thing is baseball is kind
- 27:47Speaker 2: of crappy this year. There's like, what eight good teams,
- 27:50Speaker 2: that's it, Yeah, and then there's like eight horrible Like
- 27:54Speaker 2: there's just a huge middle ground right now. I think
- 27:56Speaker 2: there are nine spots out of for play or ten
- 28:00Speaker 2: ten spots out of first place in the entire league,
- 28:03Speaker 2: and they're playing well. There's no team blowing it, blowing
- 28:07Speaker 2: other teams out of the water right now. The Braves,
- 28:08Speaker 2: I think are the top team. In the National League,
- 28:10Speaker 2: and like, you know that that that could change tomorrow.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So if they could get one of their other pitchers going,
- 28:17Speaker 2: and they have Wheeler and Sanchez just dealing, and the
- 28:20Speaker 2: way they're hitting the ball right now and responding to Maddinglely,
- 28:22Speaker 2: like that's I definitely feel positive going into June that
- 28:27Speaker 2: they could make a run and get that get that
- 28:29Speaker 2: lead to like four games with the Braves and and
- 28:32Speaker 2: maybe that's maybe that happens, but like again, they seem
- 28:36Speaker 2: to be responding, and I don't know anything behind the scenes,
- 28:40Speaker 2: but like, just keep whatever you're doing, Maddenly, just you know,
- 28:43Speaker 2: just keep yes, take them a dairy Queen after every
- 28:46Speaker 2: wines like I did that last night after Vinnie's baseball game.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Have I gone to dairy queen after a baseball game
- 28:55Speaker 2: many many years? It was actually really nice. So if
- 28:59Speaker 2: if Mattingly's do, just keep doing it. Maybe it's water
- 29:01Speaker 2: ice in South Philly, but water ice. Yeah, yeah, it
- 29:05Speaker 2: seems to work because the kids we were loving it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: After Abigail's karate training last night, I stopped off and
- 29:09Speaker 1: I got I got us some wa wah milkshakes that
- 29:11Speaker 1: were freaking fantastic. Yes, oh my gosh, cookies and cream milkshake. Whoo.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I had the new frosted donut blizzard at DQ what
- 29:23Speaker 2: they have a whole breakfast line of like, yes.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I know where I'm going after this.
- 29:30Speaker 2: It was phenomenal. I don't really I don't usually like
- 29:32Speaker 2: that kind of stuff, but it was really good. Jeff,
- 29:34Speaker 2: you should get there today.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, let's do it. Let's get the show
- 29:36Speaker 1: over with here. Okay, b blah bla ba. Well, we
- 29:41Speaker 1: are going to take a break here. Okay, we're gonna
- 29:42Speaker 1: take a break folks. When we get back, we're gonna
- 29:44Speaker 1: get into one of our new segments, love to see It,
- 29:48Speaker 1: Hate to see It? So let's take that break now,
- 29:50Speaker 1: we'll be right back. All right, we are back, and
- 29:55Speaker 1: we are now going to get into our new segment
- 29:58Speaker 1: here at the PST podcast sh Oh, which we're going
- 30:00Speaker 1: to be bringing uh on onto the pod every now
- 30:03Speaker 1: and again. Love to see It, Hate to see It.
- 30:05Speaker 1: This is where we can talk about anything this past
- 30:08Speaker 1: week that we love to see in the world, and
- 30:11Speaker 1: vice versa. Anything we hated to see doesn't necessarily have
- 30:15Speaker 1: to be about sports. It can be about anything. So Eric,
- 30:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you start off with love to see it,
- 30:21Speaker 1: hate to see it? What are your thoughts here, my friend.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Okay, I got I got two loves to see it.
- 30:27Speaker 2: One's local and one is international. Oh okay, locally a
- 30:33Speaker 2: planned data center in our community, very close by the way,
- 30:39Speaker 2: just got just got voted, not voted down. But the
- 30:43Speaker 2: companies that were gonna put we're going to build it
- 30:46Speaker 2: got so much pressure and just red tape and bullshit
- 30:50Speaker 2: that they decided not to do it. They pulled the contract.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Oh all right, I guess that's a win for the
- 30:55Speaker 1: community there, huh big time.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yes, A lot of hippie libs like myself put a
- 31:01Speaker 2: lot of pressure on on the on the school board
- 31:04Speaker 2: and and the community whatever the hell it's called the boards.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah and yeah, the company backed out, and thank goodness
- 31:11Speaker 2: for that.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Right all right now?
- 31:13Speaker 2: My international love to see it is literally love to
- 31:15Speaker 2: see it. We went to Toronto, uh two weeks ago, two
- 31:19Speaker 2: weeks like, yeah, two weekends ago, and it's it's one
- 31:23Speaker 2: of my favorite cities in the world. Yeah that it
- 31:26Speaker 2: overtook uh some some cities I've had on the list
- 31:29Speaker 2: for a long time. It's probably the top three. It
- 31:32Speaker 2: really is kind of like it's a smaller Manhattan of Canada.
- 31:37Speaker 2: The cn Tower is amazing. The NHL Hockey Hall of
- 31:40Speaker 2: Fame my son and I went to that was a blast.
- 31:43Speaker 2: It's a super clean city. There's there's no pp on
- 31:47Speaker 2: the subways and stuff, and the trolleys and the bus
- 31:50Speaker 2: is like it's I noticed that big time. It was
- 31:53Speaker 2: because I lived in Philly for a long time and
- 31:56Speaker 2: there was always once a week, there was always that
- 31:59Speaker 2: one that one chair on the subway that had the
- 32:03Speaker 2: pee and you're just like, don't slam the brakes on
- 32:08Speaker 2: subway driver, because that's going to go everywhere, Like you know,
- 32:11Speaker 2: oh my god, if you live down there, you know
- 32:14Speaker 2: you know what I'm talking about. Yes, none of that.
- 32:17Speaker 2: They're super clean, great food city. But love literally love
- 32:22Speaker 2: to see Toronto. It was awesome time awesome.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I I have yet to go. I have yet to
- 32:29Speaker 1: visit that city. And I was actually talking with somebody
- 32:32Speaker 1: yesterday and we were talking about traveling in the future
- 32:34Speaker 1: and just how important it is to you know, our
- 32:36Speaker 1: families and stuff, and he's like, you know, you just
- 32:38Speaker 1: got to do it. You just got to go up there.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Just drive up there. You can drive to Canada. It's
- 32:43Speaker 1: easy to do and it's and it's wonderful. Especially Toronto
- 32:48Speaker 1: just such a great culture based scene. Food is great
- 32:52Speaker 1: up there, from what folks say. And I got to
- 32:54Speaker 1: get up there, man, I gotta get up there. We
- 32:56Speaker 1: should go up together. Actually, just leave our families here
- 32:59Speaker 1: at home, go up together.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Hell yeah, do it. Do a Montreal half the week,
- 33:04Speaker 2: Toronto half the week, and both those cities are amazing.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I love it. I love I love the idea. Let's
- 33:10Speaker 1: keep that in the back of our minds. For sure.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I won't be able to do that this year, maybe
- 33:13Speaker 1: next year, so love to see it for me. This,
- 33:18Speaker 1: this is gonna this may go a different avenue as well,
- 33:21Speaker 1: so as as a lot of folks may know. I've
- 33:24Speaker 1: talked about it on the show before. My favorite band
- 33:26Speaker 1: is a metal band called kill Switch Engage. I have
- 33:29Speaker 1: loved them for years and years. I love to see
- 33:33Speaker 1: it when they actually come right here to the town
- 33:36Speaker 1: and city that I live in in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Not
- 33:40Speaker 1: just that, Eric, not just that that they're coming here,
- 33:44Speaker 1: but they're coming on my birthday. Oh nice? I mean
- 33:48Speaker 1: I do have a birthday. I do, well, maybe I don't.
- 33:54Speaker 1: It's an almost joke, folks.
- 33:57Speaker 2: So you're you're you're just saying that they're playing, they're
- 33:59Speaker 2: playing soon in your town.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I guess I really don't have a birthday.
- 34:04Speaker 1: So I was the ongoing joke with our group of friends.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Everybody is that I do not have a birthday that
- 34:09Speaker 1: I would. I just formed it one day from a
- 34:13Speaker 1: rock or something.
- 34:15Speaker 2: We make a big deal out of all our birthdays
- 34:17Speaker 2: except for him. Yact like he doesn't exist that day.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yep.
- 34:21Speaker 2: I think it's like National Sewing Day or some shit
- 34:24Speaker 2: like that sewing Day.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It's like, boy, I see it my birthday. Greetings from
- 34:29Speaker 1: the guys are boy. I really wish there was a
- 34:31Speaker 1: birthday today that we could celebrate. I really wish we
- 34:34Speaker 1: could recognize somebody's birthday today. So yeah, So on June
- 34:38Speaker 1: thirteenth in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, kill Switch Engage is coming to
- 34:43Speaker 1: play their set and I cannot wait to go. And
- 34:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you this too, tell you this too.
- 34:48Speaker 1: His first metal show. I can't believe I'm going to
- 34:51Speaker 1: admit this, but I'm truthful all the time. It's the
- 34:54Speaker 1: first metal show I'm going to or I actually have
- 34:55Speaker 1: a seat. Oh my gosh, I got a seat because
- 34:59Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck it, I want to enjoy this and
- 35:02Speaker 1: I don't want to stand for four hours.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Oh my god, a metal show in a seat?
- 35:08Speaker 1: I know, I don't. I know. It's my birthday and
- 35:11Speaker 1: I'm seeing my favorite band. I'm gonna sit down and
- 35:14Speaker 1: enjoy it.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Listen, you had to keep me from going into the
- 35:18Speaker 2: Lamb of godpit I did last month. Yes, I can't
- 35:21Speaker 2: even imagine a seat, like I know, I'm doing it
- 35:25Speaker 2: this one time. Okay, this one time.
- 35:27Speaker 1: That's it. So all right, that's that's our love to
- 35:30Speaker 1: see it. What's your hate to see it?
- 35:32Speaker 2: Listen? We're probably going to see a band called I
- 35:33Speaker 2: Forget to Vomit something.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Of yeah, vomits, Yes.
- 35:38Speaker 2: To vomit violently sitting down. Yeah, we're not going it's
- 35:43Speaker 2: a death metal band. We're not sitting down for No,
- 35:45Speaker 2: we're not going to sit for that.
- 35:46Speaker 1: No.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So I hate to see it for me, honestly,
- 35:52Speaker 2: Donald Gid passing away at seventy miles. Yeah, saw that
- 35:57Speaker 2: in my feed the other night, and and uh man,
- 36:01Speaker 2: what it's so it's it's so weird, Like I think
- 36:04Speaker 2: obviously most kids this these days have no clue who
- 36:08Speaker 2: the guy is, right, But and I'm not. I'm not
- 36:13Speaker 2: the biggest nostalgia guy, like, oh, the Goodies changed White life.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Like I see those accounts online and I'm like, yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 2: I relax. It was a good movie. But yeah, good god.
- 36:23Speaker 2: I based my life on the movie, uh Lucas or
- 36:26Speaker 2: whatever that movie is with the the one Corey brothers
- 36:30Speaker 2: in it. I think it's Lucas maybe Lucas. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 2: just those just that kind of stuff. I'm like, just
- 36:35Speaker 2: get a grip, people. But I do think back to
- 36:38Speaker 2: like nineteen eighty eight. Donald gibb was in Revenge of
- 36:41Speaker 2: That Hurts two and blood Sport. Yeah, two movies that
- 36:45Speaker 2: you know this, these are the VHS days, and they're
- 36:48Speaker 2: the days of like, you know, I had Prism, which
- 36:50Speaker 2: if you from Philly, you know what Prism is. Yes,
- 36:52Speaker 2: it's basically the local Philly HBO. And you know, unfortunately
- 36:56Speaker 2: Prism only had like twelve movies a month, right, so
- 37:00Speaker 2: you essentially watched the same goddamn movie like over and
- 37:04Speaker 2: over and over. You had if you had no life. Yeah,
- 37:06Speaker 2: you're like twelve years old like I was, and I
- 37:09Speaker 2: watched those two movies. I've seen both movies probably forty
- 37:12Speaker 2: times a piece. Oh yeah, and Donald Gibb was like
- 37:14Speaker 2: a staple of like that point in my life when
- 37:19Speaker 2: you start to get like movie file or music file,
- 37:22Speaker 2: like you start to like get obsessed with stuff. Yes,
- 37:25Speaker 2: so Ogre and Ray Jackson were you know, we were
- 37:30Speaker 2: embedded in my brain. You know, Donald and Donald get
- 37:33Speaker 2: played both parts.
- 37:34Speaker 1: And like when when he when he when he broke
- 37:36Speaker 1: the brick over his head and forehead. Yeah, blood Sport.
- 37:40Speaker 2: The scenes should should have Big chun Ley. He should
- 37:45Speaker 2: have had to fight his buddy in the in the finals.
- 37:48Speaker 2: When he makes the turn of Nerds Too and all
- 37:50Speaker 2: of a sudden he's part of the Nerd crew. Yeah,
- 37:52Speaker 2: what a heartwarming experience that was. Yeah, and uh he
- 37:56Speaker 2: became a try lamb at the end of Nerds Too.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And yeah, and it's just a bummer, like one of
- 38:01Speaker 2: those guys that like just all as soon as he
- 38:04Speaker 2: saw his face, like, oh yeah, when I was twelve,
- 38:06Speaker 2: that guy. Yeah, but yeah, that was that was sad here.
- 38:09Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, there's certain folks that pass away who are
- 38:11Speaker 1: staples of our childhood or even even even into our
- 38:15Speaker 1: twenties and thirties. You know, we can go back to
- 38:17Speaker 1: this past year, like when Ozzie passed away, like we
- 38:20Speaker 1: all knew it was gonna happen at some point, but man,
- 38:22Speaker 1: it was like the alt and we knew that at
- 38:24Speaker 1: some point someday, just based on how we knew what
- 38:27Speaker 1: his health was, it was gonna happen. Still the ultimate bummer,
- 38:31Speaker 1: especially for those of us who enjoy heavy music and
- 38:35Speaker 1: in the history of heavy music where it came from,
- 38:39Speaker 1: you know, with movies like you're we're talking about, we
- 38:42Speaker 1: have these actors and actresses that just meant something to
- 38:46Speaker 1: us as we were growing up. I can't tell you
- 38:48Speaker 1: how many times I watched Blood Sport with my dad,
- 38:51Speaker 1: probably at least fifty times. We had to watch it
- 38:53Speaker 1: at least fifty times where we just we all know
- 38:55Speaker 1: the we all know the lines from the from the movie,
- 38:59Speaker 1: you know, and yeah, yeah, you hate you hate to
- 39:01Speaker 1: see it. So that's a that's a that's a good one, man,
- 39:04Speaker 1: that's a good one. I hate to see it, and
- 39:06Speaker 1: and and I don't. I don't want to get too
- 39:08Speaker 1: too serious, but I've had a number of conversations this
- 39:11Speaker 1: past week with folks who are truly truly having PTSD.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I'm not even kidding when it comes to the antivirus
- 39:24Speaker 1: and what it might actually mean for society if, if, if,
- 39:29Speaker 1: for whatever reason, there is some sort of outbreak. And
- 39:32Speaker 1: again I don't mean to get like ridiculously serious here,
- 39:34Speaker 1: even though it is I hate to see this. There's
- 39:38Speaker 1: a lot of folks that have major PTSD from from
- 39:42Speaker 1: the COVID nineteen pandemic eric and people thinking how is
- 39:47Speaker 1: this going to potentially change life again? People are absolutely
- 39:52Speaker 1: fearful of what may happen in the future. I don't
- 39:54Speaker 1: think we're going to be getting into that type of
- 39:56Speaker 1: situation that we did back in twenty twenty. I don't
- 40:00Speaker 1: think that's gonna happen. But I don't necessarily trust certain
- 40:03Speaker 1: folks that are in power and authority in Washington to
- 40:06Speaker 1: make sure that we're gonna be able to combat this
- 40:08Speaker 1: the way that it needs to. And I hate to
- 40:11Speaker 1: have these feelings of I don't know how this may
- 40:15Speaker 1: turn out in the end. I think I know how
- 40:18Speaker 1: it might, but I'm hating to see this right now
- 40:22Speaker 1: at this point, I'm really I'm really concerned, to be honest,
- 40:25Speaker 1: and so many other people are too. It's a thing.
- 40:29Speaker 2: I mean, you don't think rf K Junior will help
- 40:31Speaker 2: us get through this and in the best way.
- 40:33Speaker 1: I mean, if he can figure out his brain worms,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you know, wrestling wrestling bears and and all that stuff.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I implore you. If you're not a fan,
- 40:43Speaker 2: go see John Mulaney on Twitter, Instagram his recent like
- 40:47Speaker 2: his recent comedy set. He talks about RFK Junior, who
- 40:51Speaker 2: he's actually like, Okay, oh, it's it's one of them
- 40:54Speaker 2: I have setdowns of someone who actually knows the guy. Yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 2: it's pretty good. No, I mean, I I no offense
- 41:02Speaker 2: to the families of these people, but I would I
- 41:04Speaker 2: would have just bombed that cruise ship that had to
- 41:09Speaker 2: hand to hand. I would have just knocked. I would
- 41:11Speaker 2: just want to sink it into the ocean. I got
- 41:13Speaker 2: I want who they all wants to deal with this crap.
- 41:15Speaker 2: And this one's like brutal apparently, right Yeah, yeah, you know,
- 41:18Speaker 2: and people are saying, like, well, it doesn't it doesn't,
- 41:21Speaker 2: it doesn't. It doesn't move through people like the same
- 41:24Speaker 2: way Corona did. But like viruses mutate and they can
- 41:26Speaker 2: like adapt and shit. So yeah, it's one that I'm
- 41:30Speaker 2: ignoring for right now because there's just so much shit
- 41:33Speaker 2: there is.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It's of the BTSD with it. It really is. I've
- 41:37Speaker 1: kind of been ignoring parts of it as well, Like
- 41:40Speaker 1: I'm not like it's not like every single day I'm
- 41:42Speaker 1: reading about it. I'm keeping up on it because as
- 41:44Speaker 1: a public official, I have to to a certain level
- 41:47Speaker 1: and certain extent, and I want to to make sure
- 41:49Speaker 1: that my community is inevitably going to hopefully be safe,
- 41:53Speaker 1: and if we need to ever do anything to combat this,
- 41:56Speaker 1: I need to know what's going on in the world.
- 41:58Speaker 1: So I just it makes me sad. I hate to
- 42:01Speaker 1: see it that there are so many people who have
- 42:04Speaker 1: this PTSD from the COVID nineteen pandemic back in twenty
- 42:08Speaker 1: twenty and twenty twenty one, that they're just really being
- 42:11Speaker 1: affected by it, and it doesn't deal. No, this isn't
- 42:14Speaker 1: whether or not you're a strong person or not. You know,
- 42:16Speaker 1: this is they're very real fears. I mean, we had
- 42:18Speaker 1: over a million people die from COVID nineteen in this
- 42:21Speaker 1: country and millions upon millions throughout the world. So this
- 42:25Speaker 1: isn't some something to be uh blase about.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I have an idea for the show, okay going forward, Oh,
- 42:34Speaker 2: we should probably flip hate and love. We should, yes,
- 42:40Speaker 2: because we're gonna end a show on it. On the hand, Well, we.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Got the we've got our interview coming up for fin
- 42:47Speaker 1: you know with Shane.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes, but the good news coming. But yeah,
- 42:51Speaker 2: we should probably flip it because it's such a bumber.
- 42:53Speaker 1: It's a good idea.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Good idea died and more people might die.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Now for the interview, Yes, now coming up on our
- 43:02Speaker 1: regularly scheduled program, folks, we got a great interview about
- 43:05Speaker 1: the Eagles.
- 43:07Speaker 2: All right, it's just a suggestion for one of your hosts.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I think we should probably flip it.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I think it's a good idea. Yeah, I think it's
- 43:12Speaker 1: a great idea here, all right, buddy, I'm gonna let
- 43:14Speaker 1: you go. Any final thoughts before you go, now, just
- 43:17Speaker 1: that one, okay, all I have. We'll change it up
- 43:20Speaker 1: for sure. Good job, al, folks. When we get back,
- 43:23Speaker 1: we got Eagles talk coming your way and now on
- 43:29Speaker 1: the table. Of course, we are in the midst of
- 43:34Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles off season, and there are always storylines
- 43:38Speaker 1: and all kinds of narratives to get into with regard
- 43:41Speaker 1: to this team. As we are reflecting on what has
- 43:44Speaker 1: been done in this offseason, what may come, and what
- 43:47Speaker 1: we can expect during this upcoming twenty twenty six twenty
- 43:51Speaker 1: twenty seven Philadelphia Eagles season. So joining us this week.
- 43:55Speaker 1: We love having them on the show. From the Eagles
- 43:57Speaker 1: pin Pull Network. Good friend of ours, we have the
- 44:01Speaker 1: one and only Shane Half my friend. Great to see you,
- 44:04Speaker 1: Thanks for jumping on.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Always happy to be here, Jeff. Even if it took
- 44:08Speaker 3: us a while to get this one worked out.
- 44:10Speaker 1: It did, but you know what, we're here now. If
- 44:13Speaker 1: you're watching on YouTube, folks, you gotta head on over
- 44:17Speaker 1: to all the to your YouTube channel. Get that out
- 44:20Speaker 1: there so everybody knows where they can find you and
- 44:23Speaker 1: all the great content you're putting out on the interwebs.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Yeah, the Eagles pin Pool Network on YouTube. I think
- 44:29Speaker 3: the username is like at Eagles pin Pool. It's kind
- 44:32Speaker 3: of different across different platforms. But yeah, you can go
- 44:36Speaker 3: check us out on YouTube. You can check out our
- 44:37Speaker 3: podcast feed. There's not as much content coming out these
- 44:41Speaker 3: days in the dog days of summer, but we'll ramp
- 44:44Speaker 3: up as we get into training camp and stuff again
- 44:46Speaker 3: as well.
- 44:47Speaker 1: And I gotta say this, folks, I love the Patreon.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I'm a subscriber. I subscribe to two podcasts. I pay
- 44:54Speaker 1: two podcast networks. One is Eagles Pinpool and on your Page,
- 45:00Speaker 1: and the other is another political base podcast where I
- 45:03Speaker 1: actually pay for the content. So that's it, folks. That's
- 45:06Speaker 1: how good everything is over on their Patreon, So get
- 45:10Speaker 1: that out there too, so folks know that they can
- 45:12Speaker 1: subscribe to you.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, first of all, thanks for joining the Patreon.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Love having you around. It's patreon dot com slash Eagles
- 45:21Speaker 3: Film Room. We have a three, five and seven dollars
- 45:25Speaker 3: a month tier, and there's discounts for annual memberships, and
- 45:28Speaker 3: we have various perks across different across the different feeds.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Our discord is a big one that's available in all tiers.
- 45:36Speaker 3: And yes, lately we've been doing a lot of all
- 45:38Speaker 3: twenty two work on Eagles rookies and unfortunately, for whatever reason,
- 45:44Speaker 3: you can't really publicly post college all twenty two stuff
- 45:47Speaker 3: like you can with the NFL. I don't understand why.
- 45:50Speaker 3: So we've had some like public shows where we've talked
- 45:54Speaker 3: a few takeaways. But there's a lot of all twenty
- 45:56Speaker 3: two breakdowns for the Eagles rookies in that Patreon, so
- 46:00Speaker 3: that's a good place to check it out. In season,
- 46:02Speaker 3: I do weekly past game reviews, we have weekly player spotlights.
- 46:07Speaker 3: There's lots If you're a film junkie at all, there's
- 46:09Speaker 3: a lot of content out there during the season that
- 46:11Speaker 3: we put out.
- 46:12Speaker 1: It's great stuff. Folks. Like I said, I'm a subscriber.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I think I'm a five dollars subscriber, and it's the
- 46:17Speaker 1: best five dollars a month that I'm spending. To be
- 46:20Speaker 1: honest with you, it's great. So that being said, Sheen,
- 46:24Speaker 1: let's get into this Eagles off season here, and we
- 46:27Speaker 1: got to start with the tired storyline. I mean, we
- 46:30Speaker 1: got to get into it because something's gonna be happening
- 46:32Speaker 1: at some point down the road, and that is this
- 46:34Speaker 1: entire AJ Brown to the Patriots narrative. And I think
- 46:38Speaker 1: we all know again that it's coming. But I'm gonna
- 46:41Speaker 1: be honest with you, I'm gonna miss the guy lining
- 46:43Speaker 1: up at wide receiver one. And any Eagles player, in
- 46:46Speaker 1: my opinion, that not only went to a Super Bowl
- 46:49Speaker 1: but ended up scoring a touchdown in a Super Bowl
- 46:52Speaker 1: wearing an Eagles jersey is always going to have a
- 46:55Speaker 1: special place in my Philadelphia sports soul here. So just
- 47:00Speaker 1: to get this out of the way here, what are
- 47:02Speaker 1: your thoughts on this entire Aj Brown narrative and storyline
- 47:05Speaker 1: that we have been dealing with now for quite some time.
- 47:07Speaker 1: I'm tired of it. I just want I just want
- 47:09Speaker 1: to shoot to drop whatever it's going to be or
- 47:11Speaker 1: not going to be. What are your thoughts here, buddy?
- 47:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I am grateful to the player. I the Eagles
- 47:20Speaker 3: probably don't go to two super Bowls in a three
- 47:22Speaker 3: year span without him, yep. And I'm ready for it
- 47:26Speaker 3: to be done. I'm just ready to move on. I
- 47:29Speaker 3: was tired of the drama part way through last season,
- 47:32Speaker 3: especially when the play on the field and the effort
- 47:35Speaker 3: on the field began to drop. And so I wish
- 47:38Speaker 3: Aja the best. I won't I'm not gonna bad mouth
- 47:42Speaker 3: them on the way out, but I'm tired of the
- 47:45Speaker 3: cryptic quotes and the blaming of the media for firestorms
- 47:49Speaker 3: that you kind of kicked off to begin with. And
- 47:51Speaker 3: I mean, we know there's interplay there, like we know
- 47:54Speaker 3: the Philly media is a certain way, but also you know,
- 47:57Speaker 3: it's it's not hard to say things won't draw reactions,
- 48:01Speaker 3: and so AJ's culpable in it.
- 48:03Speaker 2: You know.
- 48:04Speaker 3: I hope he goes somewhere and I won't say I
- 48:07Speaker 3: hope he goes and has a great rest of his
- 48:09Speaker 3: career because I don't want him knocking us off in
- 48:11Speaker 3: Super Bowls. But I hope he goes and has success,
- 48:13Speaker 3: and you know, I hope he's happy where he lands,
- 48:16Speaker 3: and I hope the Eagles are happy with the first
- 48:19Speaker 3: round pick they get back. When you think about it, yeah,
- 48:22Speaker 3: and I'm presuming it's That's what a lot of the
- 48:24Speaker 3: reporting has been. It's going to be a twenty twenty
- 48:26Speaker 3: eight first round pick. And I know a lot of
- 48:28Speaker 3: people are bummed about it not being a twenty twenty
- 48:30Speaker 3: seven first, and I just don't really care. I don't
- 48:34Speaker 3: really devalue future picks over current picks. And that's the
- 48:40Speaker 3: luxury of having a stable GM, is that how he
- 48:43Speaker 3: doesn't have to either. And I think he's able to
- 48:45Speaker 3: take advantage of others that do. Like if the Patriots
- 48:48Speaker 3: aren't willing to give a twenty seven first, they shouldn't
- 48:51Speaker 3: be willing to give a twenty eight first, And so
- 48:54Speaker 3: I think that's the way that how he can get
- 48:55Speaker 3: a little more value than maybe anybody else would be
- 48:59Speaker 3: willing to give up. And so it being a twenty
- 49:01Speaker 3: eight first doesn't really matter too much to me. I'm
- 49:05Speaker 3: glad that it'll be a first And so when you
- 49:06Speaker 3: think about it, you gave a first round pick for
- 49:09Speaker 3: AJ Brown, went to two Super Bowls and flipped him
- 49:11Speaker 3: for a first round pick, and I'd say that's a
- 49:13Speaker 3: pretty good usage your resources.
- 49:15Speaker 1: It absolutely is. And Shane, the more that I think
- 49:18Speaker 1: about the wide receiver room here and assuming AJ Brown
- 49:22Speaker 1: has gone from Philadelphia here, the wide receiver room is
- 49:25Speaker 1: going to look different for sure, and I'm trying to
- 49:28Speaker 1: figure out kind of how to characterize it. Look, I
- 49:32Speaker 1: absolutely love the Mkai Lemon pick in the draft. He
- 49:36Speaker 1: and Davonte Smith, I think are going to be so
- 49:39Speaker 1: fun to watch, especially with what Seawn Manyon maybe doing
- 49:43Speaker 1: with this offense in the future. And we're certainly going
- 49:45Speaker 1: to get to Seawan Manyon in a bit. But with
- 49:48Speaker 1: DeVante Smith and Makai Lemon, they are quote smaller receivers
- 49:54Speaker 1: and as your potential number one and number two, I mean,
- 49:58Speaker 1: I think it does raise some some level of question
- 50:01Speaker 1: as to what that level of productivity might end up being.
- 50:05Speaker 1: But it also makes me wonder then too, what Elijah Moore,
- 50:09Speaker 1: Dantavian Wicks, Hollywood Brown Darius Cooper, Johnny Wilson like what
- 50:14Speaker 1: they could possibly give this offense as well, and to
- 50:17Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts overall too. So I'm wondering what are your
- 50:21Speaker 1: thoughts on how prolific that this wide receiver room could
- 50:25Speaker 1: actually be during this twenty twenty six twenty twenty seven season.
- 50:30Speaker 3: I am buying stock on Davante Smith, all right, I
- 50:35Speaker 3: am fully and this was and going back before the
- 50:39Speaker 3: AJ is certainly going to be traded. I said that
- 50:42Speaker 3: I thought DeVante Smith can be your number one receiver. Yeah,
- 50:46Speaker 3: if you just go back and look at the charting
- 50:48Speaker 3: from like Sports Info Solutions when Davante Smith is in
- 50:53Speaker 3: a wide alignment, so a lot of people think, Davante Smith,
- 50:56Speaker 3: you need him to be your slot and you certainly
- 50:57Speaker 3: got out of the slot. Mackay Lemon plays it ton
- 51:00Speaker 3: out of the slot. Eli Stowers plays a ton out
- 51:02Speaker 3: of the slot, and so you got a lot of slots. Well,
- 51:06Speaker 3: Davante Smith when he is in a wide alignment, and
- 51:08Speaker 3: it's not like a small sample size where it's like
- 51:11Speaker 3: five percent of his snaps, but when he was in
- 51:13Speaker 3: a wide alignment last season, he ranked third in the
- 51:16Speaker 3: NFL and yards per route run from a wide alignment,
- 51:20Speaker 3: and that was behind if I remember correctly, Jackson Smith
- 51:23Speaker 3: and Jigbo was number one and Puka Nakuah was number two.
- 51:27Speaker 3: And then if you go back the year before that,
- 51:29Speaker 3: he ranked third in yards per route run from a
- 51:31Speaker 3: wide alignment. At that time it was behind Puka Nakua
- 51:33Speaker 3: and AJ Brown.
- 51:34Speaker 1: And so this is a.
- 51:35Speaker 3: Guy that over two years of not a minuscule sample size,
- 51:40Speaker 3: has thrived been top in the league, top three in
- 51:43Speaker 3: the league and yards per route run. And some of
- 51:45Speaker 3: that has to do with the Eagles propensity to push
- 51:48Speaker 3: the ball downfield. But I remember talking about Davante Smith
- 51:52Speaker 3: coming out of the draft that sometimes like the traits
- 51:55Speaker 3: and skills of players don't match up, and they didn't
- 51:58Speaker 3: for DeVante Smith because he's such a and I thought
- 52:01Speaker 3: his best trait was beating press coverage, which that's not
- 52:04Speaker 3: generally how that works. And at the time I questioned
- 52:07Speaker 3: that coming into the NFL, and he's obviously proven it
- 52:10Speaker 3: now that it wasn't just a one off thing. So
- 52:14Speaker 3: I have full confidence in DeVante outside. I think he's
- 52:16Speaker 3: going to have a spectacular year now. Certainly he's benefited
- 52:20Speaker 3: from AJ Brown drawing more attention. But I think they've
- 52:24Speaker 3: got some other guys that can help draw that attention
- 52:26Speaker 3: away this year, and so I think you're going to
- 52:28Speaker 3: see Mackay Lemon a lot more out of the slot,
- 52:31Speaker 3: Davante a lot more outside. Lemon obviously excels working over
- 52:35Speaker 3: the middle of the field, which is an area that
- 52:37Speaker 3: Eagles haven't traditionally targeted a lot any But I won't
- 52:42Speaker 3: get too far into the manion thing, but we'll talk
- 52:45Speaker 3: about that in a minute. But I think you see
- 52:46Speaker 3: some clear there's a clear direction, a clear one to
- 52:49Speaker 3: eighty happening with the offense. And so Dantavian Wicks, I
- 52:53Speaker 3: would imagine, is going to be your wide receiver. Three.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Hollywood Brown is going to probably make this team because
- 52:59Speaker 3: they guaranteed him more money than they should have. I
- 53:02Speaker 3: didn't really like that guaranteeing of that money at the time,
- 53:05Speaker 3: So I would assume those four year locks wide receiver. Five.
- 53:11Speaker 3: I think Elijah Moore is on the outside looking in.
- 53:13Speaker 3: I think they would like to keep a Darius Cooper
- 53:16Speaker 3: or a Johnny Wilson, a bigger blocking receiver, whichever one
- 53:19Speaker 3: kind of pans out. So I think that's kind of
- 53:21Speaker 3: the direction you're probably looking at the wide receiver room
- 53:24Speaker 3: this year.
- 53:25Speaker 1: All right, Well, let's talk about Sean Manyon and this
- 53:28Speaker 1: offense and because the discussion of No AJ Brown and
- 53:35Speaker 1: what the wide receiver room is going to look like
- 53:37Speaker 1: with skill position players are going to look like in
- 53:42Speaker 1: terms of what Sean Mannion is going to do and
- 53:45Speaker 1: as a first time offensive coordinator, it's going to be
- 53:48Speaker 1: really interesting. And after last year's offensive roadblocks, you know,
- 53:52Speaker 1: US fans are just clamoring to see something different and
- 53:55Speaker 1: something new when it comes to this Eagles offense and
- 53:58Speaker 1: how it operates. And it's essentially know where you were
- 54:00Speaker 1: going talking about this wide receiver room here. I mean,
- 54:04Speaker 1: recent reports say that Manion and Jalen Hurts have really
- 54:07Speaker 1: been hitting it off. Seems like we may see some
- 54:09Speaker 1: life in this Eagles offense this coming season. And just
- 54:13Speaker 1: based on you know, a simple report, I think maybe
- 54:17Speaker 1: maybe I'm getting a little too over the moon about
- 54:19Speaker 1: this here, But what do you think we should be
- 54:21Speaker 1: expecting from Sean Mannon's offense and whether or not this
- 54:26Speaker 1: new offense is really going to be able to hit
- 54:28Speaker 1: that reset button this year?
- 54:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's going to be I think it'll
- 54:33Speaker 3: be a completely different offense, okay, And you know, you
- 54:36Speaker 3: brought in a guy from the outside that runs an
- 54:41Speaker 3: entirely different scheme, and so I think he's going to
- 54:45Speaker 3: be given the latitude to do that. And if you
- 54:47Speaker 3: question that, you don't have to look much further than
- 54:50Speaker 3: the draft to realize that's the case, because again, m
- 54:54Speaker 3: kay Lemon's superpower is working over the middle of the
- 54:56Speaker 3: field where the Eagles have traditionally not targeted. Now, you
- 55:00Speaker 3: can assess different parts of that blame on Jalen Hurts,
- 55:03Speaker 3: on Nick Sirianni, on the various offensive coordinators, and I
- 55:07Speaker 3: think there's an element of truth to all of them. Yeah,
- 55:11Speaker 3: you know, I think if Jalen Hurts was extremely comfortable
- 55:15Speaker 3: throwing over the middle of the field, he would pound
- 55:17Speaker 3: the table for that, and as a franchise quarterback, you
- 55:19Speaker 3: would have some sway there. I think he's reticent to
- 55:22Speaker 3: target that area of the field, and you see it
- 55:24Speaker 3: all the time with shorter quarterbacks. It's harder to see there,
- 55:27Speaker 3: it's harder to throw there. I think Hurtz throws really
- 55:30Speaker 3: well with anticipation outside the numbers, not as well inside,
- 55:34Speaker 3: but there's certainly reps of it. I think there's an
- 55:36Speaker 3: aversion to turnovers, whether that comes from hurts or from Sirianni,
- 55:40Speaker 3: or if it's a negative feedback loop, and so I
- 55:43Speaker 3: think all of those things blend in. But at the
- 55:46Speaker 3: end of the day, the best offenses in the NFL
- 55:49Speaker 3: are unlocking that area of the field, and so Sean
- 55:53Speaker 3: Manion's offense, the Packers offenses targeted that area of the field.
- 55:58Speaker 3: You're going to see that Makay Lemon works over the
- 56:01Speaker 3: middle of the field. Diego draft Eli Stowers in the
- 56:04Speaker 3: second round, who is a tight end in name only,
- 56:08Speaker 3: but he primarily lined up in the slot in college
- 56:10Speaker 3: and he's a terrible blocker. Yes, And so you know,
- 56:14Speaker 3: are you telling me on a team they finally invest
- 56:17Speaker 3: in tight end through the draft and they spend a
- 56:21Speaker 3: second round pick to draft a tight end that's basically
- 56:24Speaker 3: a big slot receiver. That tells me we're not going
- 56:27Speaker 3: to attach tight ends to the line of scrimmage and
- 56:29Speaker 3: try to bully people running downhill anymore. And so all
- 56:33Speaker 3: the signs from the draft really confirmed the direction I
- 56:35Speaker 3: thought this was going to go, which is that you're
- 56:38Speaker 3: seeing a mark shift in the offense. I don't think
- 56:40Speaker 3: you're going to try to tweak a few things from
- 56:42Speaker 3: last year. I think you're going to see an almost
- 56:44Speaker 3: entirely different scheme.
- 56:45Speaker 1: That's what we want as fans. That's what we want.
- 56:48Speaker 1: And I wonder, at the end of the day too,
- 56:51Speaker 1: just as an offshoot here, if that's what Jalen Hurts
- 56:54Speaker 1: wants too, and if the front office and if Nick
- 56:58Speaker 1: Sirianni actually sat down had a conversation with him, because
- 57:02Speaker 1: he is the franchise quarterback of this team, to say,
- 57:05Speaker 1: you know, what direction do you think perhaps we should
- 57:09Speaker 1: be going in. I do wonder if they had those
- 57:11Speaker 1: conversations with Jalen Hurts, considering he's a Super Bowl MVP
- 57:15Speaker 1: and again, the franchise quarterback of this team. I don't know.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I would think that would be smart of them to
- 57:21Speaker 1: do that, to utilize not only his brain, but Okay,
- 57:24Speaker 1: you have a certain talent structure within yourself and your
- 57:28Speaker 1: understanding of various offenses and various scheming. What is going
- 57:32Speaker 1: to work for you? And I'm wondering if that's part
- 57:35Speaker 1: of the equation too.
- 57:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I would imagine so. And I mean, don't you
- 57:39Speaker 3: don't need Jalen Hurts to be justin Herbert and how
- 57:44Speaker 3: he targets and dissects the middle field. You don't need that, right,
- 57:48Speaker 3: You just need to not be a bottom three four
- 57:51Speaker 3: team in the league in terms of when you're willing
- 57:53Speaker 3: to throw there. Because if you're just willing to do it,
- 57:56Speaker 3: and you'll do it occasionally, teams have to respect it.
- 57:59Speaker 3: And I think think what the Eagles have gotten to
- 58:01Speaker 3: over the last couple of years is that they're so
- 58:05Speaker 3: reticent to do it that teams just don't really have
- 58:08Speaker 3: to respect it very much. And so that's what I'm
- 58:11Speaker 3: not looking for this team to be under center seventy
- 58:14Speaker 3: five percent of the time and half of their passes
- 58:17Speaker 3: go between the hashes. That's not gonna happen. But as
- 58:21Speaker 3: Nick Sirianni said many years ago, a wise man avoids
- 58:24Speaker 3: all extremes, and the Eagles have not done that over
- 58:27Speaker 3: the last few years. And I don't think they're going
- 58:29Speaker 3: to swing to the you know, Shanahan Lafleur style of
- 58:34Speaker 3: offense to that extreme either, But I think you're going
- 58:36Speaker 3: to see a lot of those concepts come in and
- 58:38Speaker 3: sort of even out.
- 58:40Speaker 1: I can't wait to see it, man, I can't. Seriously,
- 58:42Speaker 1: I'm clamoring for training camp here at this point. But
- 58:45Speaker 1: with that being said, folks, we're going to take a
- 58:47Speaker 1: break really quick and we come back. We've got more
- 58:49Speaker 1: Eagles offseason talk. Come your way, stick with us, right.
- 58:55Speaker 1: We are back with our good friend Shane Haff from
- 58:58Speaker 1: the Eagles Pin Network, And as we are moving along
- 59:03Speaker 1: with this discussion about the Eagles offseason here, I don't know,
- 59:08Speaker 1: maybe I'm overreacting, but I want to shift now over
- 59:13Speaker 1: to the defense and specifically the safety position on this team,
- 59:17Speaker 1: because I do feel a bit concerned right here as
- 59:20Speaker 1: we're talking in mid May, and sure there's more offseason
- 59:23Speaker 1: to go. Shane and Howie Roseman might make a move
- 59:27Speaker 1: to bring in another safety into the fold here, but
- 59:30Speaker 1: if this team goes into this season with the current
- 59:32Speaker 1: safety talent, I think there could potentially be some problems here.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I just want to get your thoughts on this particular
- 59:40Speaker 1: storyline this offseason. Again. I think there's a move to
- 59:43Speaker 1: be made at some point. What are your thoughts here?
- 59:47Speaker 3: Yeah, every year I sort of push back a little
- 59:50Speaker 3: bit with fans. They're like, oh, the Eagles have this week,
- 59:54Speaker 3: and man, if Cam Jurgens goes down, I don't know
- 59:56Speaker 3: if Drew Kendall is ready to be the backup or
- 59:58Speaker 3: to be the center, And I'm like, well, can you
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: name any other backup center in the NFL? Like so,
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: people do get laser focused on their team and they
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: don't necessarily sometimes recognize what the landscape of the NFL
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: as a whole is. That's not the case with safety.
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: It's very possible. I think you could make the argument
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: the Eagles have the worst safety room in the NFL,
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: and so it's I mean, you look at it. So
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: the Eagles have Marcus EPs. Marcus EPs is a He's
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: an okay player. Like Marcus Ops isn't going to kill
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: you the back end of your defense if he has
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: to play. You know, I would prefer to not walk
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: into a season with him as my starter. He was
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: signed off the street as free agent last year during
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: the season for a reason. Now he knows the system.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: There's athletic limitations, but he knows the system. He's not
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: going to have the big coverage bus. So you know,
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: if you tell me you absolutely just have to start
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Marcus EPs this year, Okay, I'm glad he's here. I
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: don't think he's going to kill your defense. Then you've
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: got Andrew mccuba next to him, second round rookie last
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: year was really bad. For the first month or so
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: of the season, he was terrible. Actually, yes, he frequently
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: had coverage bus some of them got other people got
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: blamed for. But you could kind of go back and see, like, well,
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: this was Reid blank and Ship trying to rotate over
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: and cover for him because he blew an assignment or
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: different things like that. And he got a lot better
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: as the season went along, he got comfortable, and then
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: he got hurt. And one of the things that Johnny
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: and I spoke about when we were doing all twenty
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: two work on Andrew mccooba this time of the year
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: last year was, I don't know if a guy at
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: that size with that play style can survive in the NFL.
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: And then he gets hurt in his rookie season. So
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: I'm concerned about that. And so it's less about Macuba
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: and EPs is my starting duo, and more about what's
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: behind them. And what's behind them is guys that have
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: never played safety. And then all before exactly Cole was
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: new Ski seventh round pick. You've got you know a
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: lot of people are hanging their hat on Michael Carter,
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: who has not played safety in the NFL. He's cornerback,
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: and I know he played a little safety in college
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: PF fun fact. PFF charts him out as almost never
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: playing safety in college, but he's actually listed as a
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: safety on Duke's rosters.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: Oh really, So.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: I'm not sure if that's a charting aberration, but he
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: hasn't done it really in the NFL much. And so
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: you know, you're telling me you're going to put Cooper
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: to Gene at safety in a pinch. So I don't
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: like I don't like that, right, So I think it's
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: very fair to be worried about the safety position. I
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: also think it's really rare that how he walks into
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: a draft with such a massive hole on a roster.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: And so maybe they didn't, Maybe they already have a
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: move planned. Maybe they're waiting till after June first, when
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: the AJA stuff happens. That's kind of my thought process. Now,
- 1:02:59Speaker 3: I think it's pretty unlikely this is the safety group
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: they walk into the season with, but if it is,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: I would be concerned about it.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, Well, look to end our conversation here,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: like to talk about weaknesses and strengths. With all of
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: our Philly sports teams here at a specific moment. So
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: let's first talk about the biggest weakness on this team
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: heading into this twenty twenty six season. I think we
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: actually may have just talked about it with the safety position.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: But what do you think is the weakest position on
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: this team?
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's safety. Yeah, that would be and
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: that sounds that's boring to say, you know, back to back.
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: So I mean I guess we could go with like
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: kicking too. Jake Elliott is here for this year. Yeah,
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: he's had back to back years of being one of
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: the worst kickers in the NFL, and he was so
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: good for years before that, and so I don't know
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: if that's just a father time came for him or what.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: So if you don't, if we don't want to say safety,
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: because we just talked about that, I guess I would
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: throw out Jake Elliott. We could talk like O line depth,
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: but O line depth, like have you seen the state
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: of O lines around the NFL? That feels silly to say,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: So I'll just stick with kickers.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: I don't mind kicker at all. I think you're absolutely correct. Look,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: it would kickers put points on the board or they
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: don't put points on the board. And when you're not
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: putting points on the board, like Jake Elliott has done
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: the past two seasons, there's liabilities there with that. You
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: can lose games if your kicker is unable to do
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: what he's been consistently able to do for quite some time.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: And again, like you said, it might be father time,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: uh catching up to him, but Jake Elliott is definitely concerned.
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I wonder if they're actually going to have some sort
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: of competition for him during training camp. Yeah.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: You mentioned they put points on the board or they don't.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: And over the last two seasons, twenty five percent of
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: the time he's walked on the field to attempt a
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: field goal, he hasn't put points on the board.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: That's a problem. Yeah, that's a big problem for sure.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: All Right, what do you think is the biggest strength
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: on this Eagles team heading into this twenty twenty six season?
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Here, I think there's two different ways you could go here,
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: and so I'll mention them both. First, I'll say the
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: pass rush, which sounds strange to say based off how
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: that played out last year. Yeah, but I think you
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: had Jalen Carter not at one hundred percent for the
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: entirety of last season, and so if his shoulders are right,
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: that's a big boost. Morojomo outperformed my expectations. I know
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Johnny's been really high on Ojomo for years, and he
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: wouldn't have Johnny was planning the flag there a long
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: time ago, and so he didn't out play Johnny's expectations,
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: but he outplayed mine. And then you go make the
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: move for Jonathan Garnard, and I think that was a
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: really good move in the draft. And so if you
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: look at Jonathan Garnard being there, who I think is
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: a good edge rusher who can also play the run,
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: you look at Jalen Carter being healthy rushing next tomorrow
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: Ojomo last year, I think a lot of the issues
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: with the pass rush came from the fact that Jalen
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: Carter wasn't Jalen Carter, Zach or not, Zach Bond, Jordan Goodness.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: No.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: The edge rushers Nolan.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: Smith, yeah, Nolan Jlex Hunt, Yeah. I don't know.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I don't know why I started to say Zach Bond,
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: Nolan Smith, Jalx Hunt. They're both solid edge rushers and
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: they can be really good when you've got a dominant
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: presence in the middle, and we've seen that, but we
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: didn't see it last year, and so I think that
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: was where some of the drop off there came. So
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: I think that's one and then the other one, I mean,
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: the clear one is cornerback. You got Quinon Mitchell perhap,
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: he is a top three corner, top three boundary corner
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: in the NFL. You have Cooper de Gene, who's the
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: best slot corner in the NFL. And then you go
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: and get Tarik Wollan, who physically can do it all. Now,
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: he will have his moments.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: It's got to be disciplined. He's got to be disciplined.
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: He does, but he's the third best cornerback on this
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: team and he would be the best cornerback on a
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: lot of teams. So, I mean, cornerback is the slam
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: dunk cancer the Eagles cornerback room if they have an injury. Again,
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: it's pretty thin, but not many teams have three all
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: Pro potential cornerbacks starting for him.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: So yeah, I'll tell you we are lucky as fans
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: to have this team where they are at. And as
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: we've been saying during the course of this offseason, here
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: on this podcast platform. The Philadelphia Eagles are still relevant
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: at the end of the day. That's which want have
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: relevant team heading into a season, and they're gonna be
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: They may be able to do some really good things
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: and keep things interesting. The last thing we'd want to
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: be here Jets or Browns fans at this point. So
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: I gotta tell you, buddy, it was great talking to you.

- 1:08:11Speaker 3: instead of getting things done. Sometimes we'll keep that quiet.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: We'll keep it quiet.
