- 0:06SPEAKER_01: Hi everyone.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to So We Were Saying.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: I am your host tonight, Melissa, along with Jamie and Jackie.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: As I was thinking about our topic, it actually occurred to me that no one names their kids Jamie, Jackie, or Melissa anymore.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Like in the entire school.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: I need to correct you on that.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, please.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Jamie, unless you are a British male, is he after that?
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Yet he's very popular name in England.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: But I go by Mr.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Toppin.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: So speak for yourself.
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I meant in the US.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Which brings me to our topic, which is nostalgia.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: Aww.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: And I was thinking about that when I woke up this morning about like our topic, and I was like, oh my gosh, there's not one kid at school with any of our names.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: There's only that is crazy to me.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: There's one especially with one of your especially with like Melissa or no.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Jackie.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: There's a teacher named Melissa, and there's a teacher named Jamie, which you coincidentally are related to.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: But and there may be a Jackie that I just don't know their first name, but no student names.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: So funny.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: As there's a boy who is Jameson and they call him Jamie.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: But there are like, you just don't see any little girls with these names anymore.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Isn't that crazy?
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: That is a total 80s name.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Same thing with Heather, Brittany, Courtney.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Like they're all babies, Sarah.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: But oh, there's a Cassara.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Cassera.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Cassara.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: So as we're getting our night started, what have you guys been up to?
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Jane?
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: So not to like keep rate tweeting about the gym.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: And again, avid like gym goer.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I need to like calm down.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: But like Lessica talked about the lady that never cleans anything.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: This week there's this guy, and I've noticed him before that you know how you go into a gym, and there at least where I am, like there's a certain place in the gym where you can do mat exercises, like by yourself, right?
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: You can like lay on a mat, you can do your stretching, you can do your weights, like all that stuff.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: He does his stretching on his mat in between the machines.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: So you're kind of like walking around him to like get to the machine that you need to get to.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: And again, like I did with the other lady that doesn't clean anything, I just fixate on it.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: And it just uh irritates me because I'm like, why?
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: We have uh life I go to lifetime.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: It is massive.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: There is a massive floor space, but why I don't get it.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's just cozy in that spot.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's cozy, and then what else me too is like the machine that I want to use, he'll put his stuff on top of that machine just for a place to like put it, even though he's not using that.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: And like me being as awkward as I am, I won't use that machine.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Or from like I feel awkward being like, hi, I need to can you like sure I would just because I'd be so aggravated.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: That would be my one little way I would get like so annoying.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: And you have to like walk around.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: It's just it's very irritating.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Wow, you fired up.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: The hot stick.
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: We have a dissolute.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: This is why I'm gonna be.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: This is why I just don't work out.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: It's fair.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what about you guys?
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Um, I just been doing like always, softball.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: We had a tournament over the weekend.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: How'd our girl do?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: She did good.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so in the last week, she's played five games of softball.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I think.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: That sounds that's a lot.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: That's a lot for a little kid.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: But she's like it.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: She's loving it every minute of it.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: So well, by the time this podcast airs, I will have gone camping with my family.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: We do it every year.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: We go for the weekend and it's like a Halloween at this campground, and mostly everyone goes in a tent, but I get a cabin.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: That surprises anyone, I guess.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: No.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: But I'll be in the cabin.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: And now, is there a bathroom in a cabin?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't, I mean, if I had to go in the middle of the night, which I don't, but if I did, I wouldn't be walking in the woods to get to the bathroom.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: I don't care what the price is, I would do that because there's just no way.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: So you're clamping.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but it's not like it's not that nice of a like they're just fine.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: I'm not complaining about the conditions of cabins.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: It's a cabin.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Better than a tent.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: It's better than a tent.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: I'm on a mattress and I have my own blankets, which I guess everyone brings their own blankets, but like I have I have a heater, there's a heater or an air conditioner.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: It's never been a time when I had to put an air conditioner on, but it's very comfortable.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Can you bring your dog?
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I can.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: I'm not bringing her.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: I can.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: The only reason why I don't bring her is I have before.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: And it's just like where we are at the campground, there's sometimes other dogs, like my other family brings their dogs, and I think she would actually be fine now because she's yet older, but it was a lot of work for me.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: The time I did bring her.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So you're not enjoying it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: I couldn't enjoy it.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I literally was like holding on to her crying about because she's a spaz, like interested in what's going on.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: So I just I felt like the whole time I was just like worried about her.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: And there's little kids there too, because my cousins have littles, and it just not with her, but I'm nervous like she could walk into them and like push them over.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: You just like everything that could happen.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: It's just easier that she doesn't come.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that would be fun.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I love being with all of my cousins and like my aunts, my uncles, and stuff.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: It's just such like a good time.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: So Belle usually flies in from California, but she's not this time.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: But Kim will be there.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: Not the whole weekend because stuff got changed with their like the kids' stuff.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: So they're not gonna all be there like normally they are.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: It's just this weekend.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I think she's just like coming for one night.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: That's fine.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: So I'm so excited and good.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: So that's what I have going on.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I guess that also ties into my nostalgia because that's something we've been doing for so many years.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: So with that, I was thinking that sometimes certain things bring me back.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: So I wanted us all to think of three things, like loosely like a person, place, or a thing that brings us back to nostalgia times, whatever it is.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Does anyone want to go?
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I have one.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: I'll go.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Do I can I just like pick one to talk about?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Like a place?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Can I go with a place first?
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Yes, of course.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: So mine is Atlantic City.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Oh right.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: So I think of Atlantic City because so my parents had a place down there for many, many years, right on the border of AC in Vetner.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: So it reminds me of them because we used to go down even as kids.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Like we just have always had a place down there.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: So that it reminds me of them, but then it also reminds me of like you guys, because we have been down there for like every milestone.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Like we used to go every weekend and like hang out down there, go to game on, like these places that don't even exist anymore.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: It was the best.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: It was in Caesar, right?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Was it Caesar's year?
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Yep here.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: And it was the best place.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: And we used to go every single weekend because we used to be at my parents' condo every single weekend.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So it just brings me back to that.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: And I feel like so many milestones have been celebrated in AC, like bachelorette parties, big birthday parties, just I don't know, shower.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Like just so many different, I don't know if we ever had a shower down there, but a lot of like bachelorette parties.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And birthday.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: It's 21st or like 25th.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: I feel like we were down there for everything.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: For everything.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: So it just reminds I don't know that when I think of like back in the day and like something that really brings me back for a multitude of reasons, it's definitely Atlantic City.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: That was a good one.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: That was a I know.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: I think it makes me so happy.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, now I wouldn't want to go down to Atlantic City unless we go to Nobu, which is definitely a favorite restaurant of ours, but otherwise, it was just so good back in the day.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: It was fun.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: A lot of fun.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: So fun.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: I guess mine would be, which I thought of the one before that we were just talking about.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: But I think mine is like coming back to my hometown.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: Like after being in the military and being away for 12 years.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: And now like my daughter plays soccer on the field that I played soccer.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And I remember playing under the lights, or like just different things in town that like trigger your memory and be like, Oh, I remember doing that with my mom when I was younger, or like just coming back.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's very different, but it's still like little things like that just like trigger memories.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Going like my daughter goes to school in the same neighborhood my grandmother lived in.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So like I just thinking about like going to her house, like when I'm pulling up to the school or whatever, and so that's kind of like what brings me back.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: What about you, Melissa?
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna get back to what you said.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: It's not Atlantic City, but that there's groups, but that's for like my people.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: But for location or like places, it's Disney for me.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I think it's because that was a place that we would go with my mom.
- 9:32SPEAKER_01: We went down the shore too, but like our real trips were like to Disney.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: And you know, there's just like certain things that just like give me that memory, like certain like smells from there, and and like things I just always bring me back instantly.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: And even with the kids, because the kids we've continued on, and my sister and her kids, like we always like going there, and I think it's because of the way it makes me feel and the memories.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And this past year we went say Universal instead of Disney.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: And we used to go there with my mom too, but it just didn't feel the same, even though some of the things there were with her too.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: But I just felt like there's just something about Disney.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And even like Universal has like the new part.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you guys are familiar or not.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: I have no desire to go there because I didn't go there growing up.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: It has no connection to me.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So that's what really actually got me started to thinking about nostalgia and how much it really like how what it means to me and how it makes me feel so good.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if that's just like the connection to my past, or well, I think it's more like the connection to your past, but you've also brought it forward to like your kids and like your experience of that same thing that like your mom experienced with you guys.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: That is, that's cute.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, so for people, I'll go just to piggyback off what you said earlier.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: And it all started actually with my reunion.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: And that night of my reunion, just like how much fun I had seeing everyone and reconnecting with people that I have not seen.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: Like, there were people there that I didn't even know were still alive.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: That's how I probably have not seen them since high school.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: The people I loved, and I was so happy to see them, but I was like, I didn't even know.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Like when I heard you were gonna be here, I tell you, like and some of the things that so many people have gone through, it's a shock, they are still alive.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: But that entire night, and even after, because I know I talked to you guys about it after, like, I was smiling ear to ear, just thinking of things, and we just had so much fun that night.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Just crazy to me.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, it was so great.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: But then that was on one Friday, and then following Friday, we had our reunion with all of our girls that we all haven't been together in years and years.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: And that night just brought me back.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Like the fact that we just like kept it going that yeah, but the fact that we were just like all together and just having fun like we used to, and it just again, I just felt like I couldn't stop smiling.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: I was so, I mean, even that night when you were like, you're really happy, aren't you?
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: She wouldn't stop smiling.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: And I think I sorry, I don't want to cut you.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: No, I want you to.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: No, mine was that too.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: It was the people like we've all known each other for 20 plus years, and I think like definitely like that our entire group from like back in the day, like brings me back.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: But definitely our group brings me right back.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: The OGs, yeah, the OGs, right?
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: So we sat there first as if no time passed.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: We got right into it.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, laughing so hard, we were crying.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Like, it was just it felt so good.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: It did, yeah.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: It was early.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: I know, we do.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: We need to get back out, yes, yeah.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: But don't have to tell me twice, girl.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: I'm always tiny and us to go.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: You know this.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: What about you, Jack?
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Something that like brings me back is when we were stationed in California, and just like the people there, the Coast Guard wives, and kind of like a cul-de-sac, but at the cul-de-sac, there was like grass and there was a bonfire out there, and every Friday we would just like everybody's welcome.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Like, you don't need an invitation, you just come out, and we would just hang out, the kids would ride their bikes, and it was just that's so fun.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: I miss those people so much.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: I don't miss living on the West Coast, but I miss like that community of the Coast Guard and just like when people were having their kids, like I would watch their other kids or like holidays because we didn't come home, but like we were each other's everything.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: Of course, and I miss everyone, and now like everybody's all over, like somebody's in Miami, somebody's in Mississippi, somebody's in Texas.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Everybody split off and went all different ways, but what we had there was so special, and just like how the kid we called it our compound.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: It was just Coast Guard housing, and there was a playground, and the kids would just play outside, and it was that's what you did.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know, that just makes me feel that for one another, yeah, and you were all in a similar situation, right?
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Like if your husband doesn't come home, it's normal in the civilian world.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Everybody's husband usually comes home every night.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, as like there, your husband's out for a little bit on the ship or whatever, but I do.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: I miss that part of my life, you know.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but what a great experience it was we have that, yes.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: So we're happy to have you back here, though.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: I'm he's and the neighborhood girls are too, I'm sure.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: It was very chase.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Shout out to it.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: All right, Gene.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: What about a thing?
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: Do you have a certain thing?
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that reminds me of the past.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I would say a digital camera.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: They are so I thought of it because I was cleaning out old person, and I have a digital camera.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's a more elevated one.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: It wasn't expensive or anything, but it's not like the real old school one, but it's still like a digital one where you have to like get the film and like bring it in and get it.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: What do you even call it?
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: You bring film in and developed, thank you.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: But like I think so it like brought me back to where like nothing was posted on Instagram until like later on, like in our face.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's not my space, but you couldn't see a picture until someone would like upload them to their computer and then you could see them, or if you took them to get developed, you had a wee and like or the one hour, like you were so excited.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, and one hour, my god, that was so elevated like back then, you know, that was such like walked around.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: So you're like, yeah, you know, and then you could see your pictures, and I remember being so excited and like slash nervous to like see what they looked like, right?
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Because you had no idea.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: You had no idea what those pictures were gonna turn out to be like.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: So it was very it's like a roller coaster ride.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: I remember in college, I skipped college, sorry, and then I met Ben Affleck when he was filming the movie Jersey Girl that and I took Yeah, yeah, and like Jennifer Lopez was there and Liv Tyler, but I remember taking my camera, like the little throwaway camera, to get developed.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh my gosh, I hope it came a help.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Did it?
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember that picture.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: I should post that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I remember that picture.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Jackie has sessive pictures, she has every picture saved from back in the day.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you I will post my Ben.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, she should also post one from us going out in AC.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Like, what are all right, guys?
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: You're gonna get follow us on uh Instagram.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: So we were saying, so we were saying, but yeah, that's my nostalgia.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: She just took me.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: What about you guys?
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: So mine's actually, there's like slightly two, but one of them is just like funny.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Mine is cereal.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: We had a ton of cereal growing up.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Like that.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: We just always had like a ton of boxes of cereal.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: And one of them is Cookie Crisp, like the original Cookie Crisp, because it's different now than it used to be.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And I don't know what it is, but if I see that or if I have it, like it just instantly takes me back to Saturday morning cartoons, just like sitting there, like having cereal.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Or reading the back of it, yeah, and to get a prize.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: I'm even gonna say I would jig my hand.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I would be now not these teeth, baby, but you didn't take.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: But I would be knuckles deep in that cereal box just to get that prize.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Whatever it was that.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: You just took me, yeah, right?
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: These are like a roller coaster night.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: Hey, Chris, I love that.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: That was like my favorite.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: And Count Chocula, which I also have right now because it was out in Target.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I hadn't gotten it because I loved it.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: So Count Chocolate and Blueberries.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen them out yet, but they are so we don't like them.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know why, but I oh I don't know as much.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I like them.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Count chocolate.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good one.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, obsessed with all like I could list all the ones I loved, but I'm like, what was my mom thinking?
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Like, literally every bad cereal you could think of, and it's supposed to be the all the time.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Like, what have so good?
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: And something else, it's not like a specific thing, but smells.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Like there are certain smells, like a cologne that like remind me of boyfriend or like someone I love.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: There's like Disney smells, like a shampoo and conditioner that they have there, like the lotion that they have there.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: I can instantly go back to that, or just even like the lavender Johnson and Johnson baby the bees.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: It's just like there are I can't relate to this, but that's okay.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: It's just like those things brings you back to take me back to where I was any of those kinds of things.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Even perfume that I wore happy, like that takes Linda to high school.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: You know it was my favorite, and if anybody can find this, please.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: The Victoria's Secret hairspray.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Did anyone use that?
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: No.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it was like a perfume.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: It smelled so good, but it was a hairspray, and Victoria's Secret stopped doing like their hair care line.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, years and years ago they stopped.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: I have still been on a hunt for this hairspray.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, it was amazing.
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, keep my eyes ankyl.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: I'll take my will for you.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: I'll take it.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: I'm on a hunt.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I've been on a for years for this thing.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: Because it does, it like brings you back.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: It is yes, it's amazing.
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: What about you, Jack?
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: Do you have something?
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: I mean, like, I'm kind of with you guys with like the smells and but like if I see an old toy, it'll just bring me it's so weird, just little things that you're like, oh my gosh, I remember that.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: And the smells like they're like when my mom like will make a certain dinner, I'll be like, I remember that.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Like it just takes you back in time.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: And but toys, like I just saw at the store, like that remember the little circle egg thing that you had to keep the thing alive or Furby?
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: No, it's oh Imagchi.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: So yeah, thought of that.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I was like that might be the wrong name.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: I never had one, but I remember my cousins having one, keeping that bad boy alive.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Alex, and I was like so jealous, because I've one.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: We'll be looking for one of those.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 20:24SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: But yes, like stupid little things like that.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but doesn't it make you feel good?
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there's things that are tied to like bad feelings and sad feelings, but I just feel like lately it's it's just been like making me feel so good, like thinking about all that stuff.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: And not in a way where I'm like sad because I'm like, oh, I want to go back.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: It was just like a great part of life.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: I like to feel like, you know, and like these are what our kids are gonna look back on and think of like, oh, remember whatever it is.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: And mom did the one of their most favorite memories that they'll probably have, yeah, right?
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: This podcast.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, this podcast for sure.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: For us anyway.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Shout out Ryan, Amber, and Jordan, Louis, John, and Sophia, Mango, Jair, Jair.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: Those are my dogs, by the way.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: I am all right.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: So, for our next question, what age would you guys revisit for one week and why?
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Jane?
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: I think mine would be 25.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: I think that's how old I was when I bought my first townhouse at 25.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: I had just moved out of my parents' house.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: I moved back in after college, was there for a little while, and then moved out, and I was living on my own, and then had one of my girlfriends as my roommate.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And it was just such a fun time.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Like it was also very scary, like living on my own and being responsible for like all of my bills and a mortgage and cooking for myself, which I've never done in my life.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: But it was.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Such a fun, independent stage of my life.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Had like a pretty good job at that time.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Like I just felt like it's when I kind of became an adult.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Like I had like a serious job, living on my own.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: It was just a really fun time, but also having fun.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: It didn't take six weeks to make plans with somebody to like get together and go out.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: It was just yay.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was just easy.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Life was just easy.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: That just sticks out of my mind.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: It's like a really good time in my life.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Like I would just take myself back to like each year that I had one of my kids.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: If I could just go back and just hold them just a little.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, when I had Ryan, I was 23.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: But just like slow down, take a minute, and just like eat up every moment.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: Because you know, you blink and they're 21.
- 22:53SPEAKER_01: And that's this thought of like just traveling back in time just to smuggle your babies again.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: I definitely agree with that.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Like I have another time, but that for sure, like being who I am today and the mom that I am and the person and I wish I could have gone back because I actually just said this not long ago.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: I want to visit those little babies and those kids.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Like, well, I don't want to start over again because I really do love where we are now too.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: But I do just like miss I want to like hold a baby and like just like smell them again and all of it.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Like I do right miss that.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: But I really would love to go back to like when I was maybe like 11 because that was just like before I had so much loss in my life.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And I just wish I could be that young and carefree.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and like not knowing what was about to happen and how my life would change.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: And I just feel like not to be all sad, like don't feel bad for me or like depressing, but like it's just you're just so innocent.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: And it's so vulnerable.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: And I you know, and you just not worry in the war.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: No.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: And you're just like you still have your mom to like save the day, and then she's gone.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: And it's just so different.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: My life has just never been the same.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: I have lived more without her than I had with her.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I just wish I could have that again.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, seeing like just like knowing I didn't have to feel so grown up, so young.
- 24:26SPEAKER_01: So I feel like that's what I had amazing memories with my mom, and all of that is like so great.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: But it's just that time to if you could go back, yes.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: Yes, like I just wish like just to see her again, just to spend one week with her like that.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: I think it would be amazing.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: But there's that's not happening anytime soon.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: All right, so let's pep this up a little bit.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, girl.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: What is one thing from the 90s or early 2000s you would bring back immediately?
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: Does someone want to go?
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Go, Jack.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: I would actually bring back a flip phone and get rid of the iPhone.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: Or alternatively, did you see that the iPhone now has a flip phone?
- 25:12unknown: No.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: Would you look at that?
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: Would you look at that?
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: I know that's not what you were alluding to, but I just set up.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, we all are addicted to our phones.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Everybody.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Like you could sit anywhere at a family party, like somebody's on their phone all the time.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, we do everything on our phones.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: And I just feel like if we could go back in time and just have a flip phone that you could still call if you got in a car accident or still call here and there.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: But the thought of just like not having something so attached to you, how amazing that would be.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: But I have to like talk about texting on an um my god.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Melissa was the very first person that ever texted me.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And it's so stupid that I remember we were in college.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: I remember how they had to keep it in the nine or keep it in the yeah, and I was like, what is it?
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: What was it?
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: Even though I don't remember this, I could picture Jaggie's reaction at you dropping her phone.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: I don't know what I'm doing.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Do you remember what the text said?
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: I mean that would be impressive.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: That would be real impressive with that.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: No, but that's what I would like if we could.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Because you're right.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: I wish we as much as I do love my phone and love all of the conveniences of it.
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: I wish we didn't have it.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: I wish the kids didn't have it.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: Yes, a thousand percent.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: So mine is kind of like along those lines and is just like being able to go out and like not worry about what anybody else was doing.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: And not being connected to like anybody else.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you went out, you did your thing, you had fun, you came home.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: It was that simple.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: It wasn't about the picture.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Yes, that's the big thing.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: And like we don't do it now because we're just phased out of that time of our life.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: But like in our 30s, it was all about like we gotta get a picture of.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Let's do a picture before like the night ends, and you know, while we all still look good.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Let's get that picture in.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Look what trail we're at.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: I'm all sweaty.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no shoes on.
- 27:09SPEAKER_01: Like, what happened?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Jamie Sun's glasses.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 27:12SPEAKER_01: Like, was it about that back then?
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: You just did your thing.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: It was just, I don't know.
- 27:18SPEAKER_01: There was just not a care in the world.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: It was just like you said, it was very simple.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: Well, so that actually goes back.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: That's kind of mine too.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: It's not about bringing something back.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: It's getting rid of stuff.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Like it was about like social media, like not having.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Like I know we had MySpace when we work it.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: So But you couldn't like take a picture and post it.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: It was so much more complicated than that.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: So it was more of like a page that played music.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like Facebook, how you moved your top eight around depending on me.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: You're pissed off.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: I'll show them.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: Number seven.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: Oh, you don't did it there.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: I remember, I'm not gonna mention who, but someone we stopped being friends, and then I no longer had someone who was my like top person.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: And I remember calling Allison and being like, girl, we have to make each other each other's number.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: I was like, because I look like a loser brain.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: And I was already like brokenhearted.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: So I felt like I couldn't handle the broken heart and the rejection and the injuries.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: It was such a big deal.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: That was I can remember that feeling right now.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: I'm getting the feeling.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm like, I can tell.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: That was serious real estate.
- 28:38SPEAKER_01: That's fan nostalgia right there for me.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: I did not feel good.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: It's not go there, not.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 28:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I know.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: So I think I like that.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Just again, then we're all saying the same thing essentially.
- 28:51SPEAKER_01: Like, I liked it being simpler.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Like I just, y'all, like, there's not necessarily something from that time period that I'm like, I wish we still had it.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: But maybe just do without.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: And it's easier now, like we were saying, it's easier now that we're older.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: We've kind of like phased out of that stuff.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: But like, yeah, it was different in our 30s, right?
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: Like that stuff was very important.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: In the 2000s, we weren't in our 30s yet.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: How old were we?
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: I was just thinking like high school, like two members or probably.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: I was thinking just like the very beginning of 2000, and we I turned 30 in 2012.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: When it was at the 90s and 2000s, I was thinking the 90s and like 2000, like between 2008, 2010.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: That's like I was like doing the two.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: That's where I was at.
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: So I was there today.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: That's why I said that.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: So, okay.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Okay, girl.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Alright, so we have another question here.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: And do you think we missed the past because it was better or because we can't get it back?
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: I think both.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think both.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: I think that like times were easier back then.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: It's so silly, but I miss like when we were going out and all getting ready together.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: And we had like the music going.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: And the straight iron and everything smelling burnt hair.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:18SPEAKER_01: And the perfume, and we just smelled like a bunch of hookers.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: And like it was just so much easier back then.
- 30:23SPEAKER_01: I think I miss like that part of it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: Oh, I do miss that.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: Like in Atlantic City at wasn't it Tommy's somebody's house that we would my stepgrandom?
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And we would stay down there and just have the best time.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: And I just remember like her with the straight iron.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Aren't you supposed to just do it once?
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: And here's Jamie, just keep doing it in her hair over and over.
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: But I in the freaking book era.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know because we say it was easier, but then we were also at a time in our life, like your 20s and 30s aren't necessarily easy, right?
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: It might have been easier from like a technology standpoint, but I don't know if it was necessarily like better.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I agree with you.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say that did it just seem easier because now it's harder and different ways.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: I just think our fun was easier.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: It was easier to go out and have fun then because we had less responsibilities.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I feel like we still can do that stuff.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: It's not like we can't get it back.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: We can't get those memories back and those things and those ages again.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: But it's like when we went out, all the girls the other night, which was actually pretty tame.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: It's not like we were out like at like a club or something at two taking moderately fun of ours.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: And like, but we still had such a great time.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: So I feel the fun could still be there.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: It's just takes a little longer to exactly.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: And to recover.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: Something else, if you guys have anything, you know.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: What memory do you wish you could experience just one more time?
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: And I think Jackie and I kind of already said it with our kids, like experiencing that.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: But you know, like you said, Disney, like just doing Disney with the kids again, too.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Like just the magic and yes, anything with the kids, I'm with you.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: I would love to experience again.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: So I was on TikTok the other day, and there was this video that was playing, and it had like this like soft Christmas music on.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: And it reminds me of this question.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: It says, POV, it's 10 p.m.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: on Christmas Eve.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: You just hung out with all of your cousins and grandparents.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Now your parents are driving you home as Christmas songs play softly on the radio.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: You slowly fall asleep, dreaming about the present.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Santa will leave you under the tray.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: But like, so for me, Christmas Eve with the family when everyone was still live.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: Oh my God, just to have everybody in the same room again, to hear their voices and their laughs, and just to sit there listening to like all of the conversations.
- 32:59SPEAKER_01: To me, that would be like my grandmother, my grandparents always had Christmas Eve.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: They had every holiday.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: But like Christmas Eve was like their was our big holiday.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: And my grandmom did everything.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: She was the most amazing cook.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: She took care of everything.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: She cooked.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: She didn't want anybody cleaning up.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: You saw to sit there.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: She wanted everybody to still enjoy themselves.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: So she did it, even though we all tried to help her.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: And we did the presents, and all the cousins were there, and we had like our little traditions.
- 33:27SPEAKER_01: And it was like just looking back on those days.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Christmas Eve was the absolute best.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: If I could have one Christmas Eve like that again.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it was the absolute best.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: So that would be mine.
- 33:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's such a that's the I'm right.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, aside from ours, I would actually have to completely agree with you.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: And it didn't even pop into my head.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: But my mom always had Christmas Eve, and everyone came to our house.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, huge.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: Same thing.
- 33:56SPEAKER_01: And it was just seven ishes.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, she made her own versions.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: They weren't like the traditional.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: Whatever she did, she did everything.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: And now that's actually still our biggest holiday.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And all of my family still goes to Aunt Rita's house.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: And and she doesn't.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: And it's it's so cute because now there's all new littles.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: It's like all of our kids and our cousins' kids.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: And and it is so special.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: But the thing you said about when we were the ones with us waiting for Santa, like that, like Santa used to drive around on the fire truck.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Do you remember that?
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: And he would like come into our house, we would take pictures, and people would driven to us.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Nope, Santa's just the fire truck.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: No, you would come in, they would like take shots with like our family.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: What do you?
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: I swear.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: You have the coolest Santa.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: He would bring these little boxes of like those really hard candies, like the Christmas candies.
- 34:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, those are my favorite.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you would break them to us.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: I guess I'm on Amazon.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: I buy them every single year and put them out.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: They remind me of my greatest.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: But I didn't even think about that.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: And that's such a good one.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: I will like that.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: I would give anything.
- 35:03SPEAKER_01: That was the absolute best.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: I love that absolute best.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's a good one.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: So this is our final question.
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And I actually really like this.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: I hope you guys like it as much as I do.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: So if you could sit down with your younger self for an hour, what would you want them to know, Jack?
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: You seem prepared.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: I know you side slide.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: So as people know, I'm a military wife.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: If I could sit back, because my husband's in the service for 20 years.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: So I was only 23-ish when we moved away.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: I wish I would tell my younger self it's okay.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: And like when we would get, we found out we were going to Pensacola, I was scared to death.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Because now, like, I was leaving, like when we lived in Connecticut, I was three hours from home.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: Now I'm going to go live in Florida.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: If I could tell my younger self, like, girl, just ride the ride.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: It's going to be so much fun.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: The experiences and everything.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Same thing like when we went to California.
- 36:07SPEAKER_01: Like I was scared, but then like the experiences.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: I wish I would just be like, it's all gonna be okay.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: But in the time when you're going through it, you're like, oh my gosh, I'm not gonna see my mom.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna stand up.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: It's the irony, but I wish, like now looking back, like take it all in.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: We really lived in paradise.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: We lived 10 minutes from the white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Like you wish you could just swing.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, just enjoy it.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: And I mean, I had younger kids at the time, but that's something if I could go back to the young Jackie back in the day, that's what I would tell her.
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Just it's okay.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: And just Well, did you learn from that now?
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: Do you now just accept things now, or do you still scared?
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: I'm not scared because like what his job is now.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, this will bring us to 24 years and then we'll just decide if he's gonna stay in or whatever.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: But I mean with life stuff in general, right?
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: Did it teach you not be so with certain things, yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Like just take it on.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Or even like Amber leaving.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: It's okay.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Like am I Amber going to college?
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: It's an experience for her.
- 37:11SPEAKER_01: She's Yes, it's great.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, like when she first left, obviously it's sad to know like she's spreading her wings and she's flying.
- 37:19SPEAKER_01: And these are probably some of the best times of her life.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Absolutely best, you know.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: It's like do it.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: So it's okay.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: And sometimes, like, I think we just overthink everything in life, and you really are gonna blink and it's gonna be over.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: And geez, like our thing.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: And then lights out.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: And then we're all dead.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: But I'm saying it everything happens so fast.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Like our kids are growing up so fast.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Like, we're growing up.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I think I was 19 years old.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: And now I'm 44 years old.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: Just babies.
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Just babies.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Still got time to cry.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: So, what about you guys?
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Do you want me to go, Melissa?
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Do you want to go?
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Okay, if I could tell my younger self, if I could sit down with my younger self and tell them something, it would be, girl, you are not fat in that photo.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, how many times when we were younger did we take pictures?
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh my God, we're so fat.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, take another one.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: And she weigh like 105 pounds brutally.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: And now, like looking back on those pictures, you look anorexic.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: I'm like, how did I think I was that?
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: But like, obviously, there's more to it than that.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: It's like, stop picking yourself apart over everything.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: You're gonna look at these pictures one day and wonder what you were so worried about.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And I think the other part of it too, it's a second piece of it, is like, don't spend all of your time worrying about if people like you.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: The real question should be, do you like that?
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: And half the time the answer is probably no.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: So it's like, what does it matter?
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: So those would be mine.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: Two of them love it.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's some good ones.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: What about you, Mules?
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: So I actually thought about this a little bit recently because of Lewis's senior pictures and my reunion.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: I looked at my senior pictures, and I look back at that girl, and I just want her to go like I made promises to myself.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: Then you are gonna be okay, and you are gonna live a life that you are proud of.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: And honestly, like I can say today that I am like everything has not happened right in my life, and I've been through really like hard things, but I love the mother that I am, I love the person that I am, I mean, I love the friend that I am, and and that's not in a way where I I'm trying, I don't think that I'm the best at those things, but it's just I live my life to the truest form, and I don't think she knew that was possible to that you could be so happy.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: And I'm crying because I'm happy.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that you could live like this.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you should be so proud of yourself for so many reasons, and a lot of them of what you just said.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and so I'm just glad that I got through things and I'm still standing.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I'm thriving.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: I don't feel like I'm not just existing, I'm living my life, and that's doing it with style girl.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, girl.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Um and like she would be proud of us totally you overcame something that a lot of people would not be able to overcome.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: And you should.
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: You should be very proud of yourself, the person that you are and what you've been through and what you continue to go through.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: It's a never-ending thing that you're going through.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: And look at you.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would you look at that.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: You did it all.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you, guys.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, proud.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Thank you, too.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: I love you guys.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Love you.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: I love you.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm sorry to get so emotional.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: It's alright.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: You can wait.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: We have enough and show our true selves.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Yes, we will.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: Promise us.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: I'm never gonna live this dim.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: Ever.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Promise.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, just one quick PS before we go.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Anyone have anything you want to share?
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: I do.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, Jane.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I am trying to not shave as much because I hate shaving.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: And like in, I do.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: I need shavings.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: I know it's unhinged.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: Well, the like I hate shaving my legs, especially because in my shower, I don't have like a stool or a bench or anything.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: These hips cannot raise up highs.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: They don't lie, girl.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: These hips don't lie.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: I can't raise them up to like actually shave my legs.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: So it's a very awkward thing.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: So I've been getting my legs waxed now, and I'm trying to not shave in between, so I let them grow to where you can like basically like feel them blowing in the wind.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: Like it's awful.
- 41:54SPEAKER_01: You can keep right now.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: Like it's so bad.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: And so it was time for me to go and get my legs waxed.
- 42:01SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, you know what?
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: I have a girlfriend of mine that gets her face waxed.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: And I typically will shave my face because it's really good for like exfoliation and all that stuff.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, let me not shave my face for a little while.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: And the hair doesn't grow, it's just like peach fuzz.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: But it's a really good exfoliator.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: So I went and got my face waxed and I loved it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: It was actually really good.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: It was not painful.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: They do it in a way where it's like hard wax, so they don't actually use strips.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: They just let it yeah, they just kind of like peeled off of your face.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: And I really enjoyed it.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: But will your hair come back thick?
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: No, I think that's like an old tale, but they don't think that's like an actual legit thing.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Um, so she's because I see people like do the little shady thing.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: You've never done it?
- 42:41SPEAKER_01: No.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: I've had it done before.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: I've never done it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Because I always thought that I would like grow back.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not done grow back.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: No, it's not gonna be like five o'clock shadow.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: Like, you're not gonna get anything like that.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: You never know.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be real.
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: It's really good for your skin.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: The moisturizers get in there better, your makeup lays better.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: It's I highly recommend.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Add it to the list.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Add it to the list.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Jack, what about you?
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, mine isn't anything too exciting.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: Well, my daughter left for college, so I got into her gel nail polish.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: Why did she bring it with her?
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: So I sit there with my little hands under the light, paint my little nails.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Is that still from like the other week?
- 43:27SPEAKER_01: No, I redid it.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: How often do you have to do it?
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Like once a week.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: But I mean it saved your mommy in the law runs.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: How long does it take you to actually do it yourself?
- 43:36SPEAKER_01: Probably like 10 minutes.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's not bad.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Maybe for Christmas or her birthday.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: But that's I mean, it's really a stupid one, but you know it's something with the B yes.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: No, I like that.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: Mine's not anything.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: It was good.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: Like over the weekend, I watched a movie on Prime.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: It was love of your life.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: And I loved it.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: Who said it?
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: What's it about?
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's anyone famous in it.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: It's about woman.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: And she divines like the love of her life.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: And selfish love.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: I'm like, isn't it hard too much?
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Isn't it hard to explain it?
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: It is, because I don't want to say she goes through like a loss.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: You know, I love a depressing movie, and then a happy ending.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: Like a happy ending, and I love love, and I loved it.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: So it's like a Hallmark movie.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 44:24SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like that.
- 44:25SPEAKER_01: Did you watch The Maid on Netflix?
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: I think it was.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 44:29SPEAKER_01: It's that same girl.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: She's someone's daughter.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: I think she's the daughter of the girl.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: It's uh Annie McDowell's daughter.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: I forget her.
- 44:36SPEAKER_01: She's a younger girl.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: I forget her.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: She's a door.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: It was her movie.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: So if anyone's looking for a cute little love story, it's also a little depressing.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: I might have cried, but it was good.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: So I recommend.
- 44:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: 10 out of 10.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: At least an eight or a nine out of the couple.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's good.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: All right, guys.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Well, that concludes this episode of So We Were Saying.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: All right, guys.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Well, that wraps up our night.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: And don't forget to like and subscribe.
