- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome back to the program. Over
- 0:04Speaker 1: the past year or so since Charlie Kirk was murdered,
- 0:07Speaker 1: there have been a lot of questions and a lot
- 0:09Speaker 1: of suggestions about what happened on that campus. Well, now
- 0:14Speaker 1: we have a 158 page report that was commissioned by
- 0:19Speaker 1: the university and the idea was to try and figure
- 0:22Speaker 1: out what sort of lapses or breakdowns occurred that allowed
- 0:26Speaker 1: something like this to even happen. And some of the
- 0:30Speaker 1: findings in that report are pretty damning. So what we're
- 0:35Speaker 1: going to do today is we're going to dive into
- 0:37Speaker 1: an article from the New York Post. And then we're
- 0:41Speaker 1: going to dive into that report itself. That way you
- 0:44Speaker 1: folks can see or hear for yourself what the report says.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Instead of a bunch of people telling you what it says.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Because as you all know, there are a lot of
- 0:53Speaker 1: agendas when it comes to this topic specifically. And cutting
- 0:56Speaker 1: through all the noise and getting to the facts... has
- 0:59Speaker 1: not exactly been an easy task. So having this independent
- 1:03Speaker 1: report be available is certainly a good resource to see
- 1:07Speaker 1: what the narrative is, at least from this official point
- 1:10Speaker 1: of view. So with that said, why don't we just
- 1:12Speaker 1: dive right into this article. And this article was published
- 1:17Speaker 1: by the New York Post and the headline, Charlie Kirk
- 1:20Speaker 1: assassination report highlights several security failures at Utah Valley University.
- 1:25Speaker 1: This article was authored by Victor Nava. Utah Valley University
- 1:30Speaker 1: did not have a robust security plan in place and
- 1:33Speaker 1: failed to properly follow its own guidelines for major events
- 1:37Speaker 1: on the day that Charlie Kirk was assassinated on the
- 1:39Speaker 1: school's campus, according to an independent report on the shooting
- 1:43Speaker 1: released on Friday. Well, that's not good. You want to
- 1:47Speaker 1: talk about lawsuits? You want to talk about ending up
- 1:50Speaker 1: holding the bag? That's how you end up holding the bag.
- 1:54Speaker 1: The 158-page independent review of the events surrounding The September 10th,
- 1:58Speaker 1: 2025 assassination of the TPUSA founder determined that nobody at
- 2:03Speaker 1: the university acted in bad faith or in willful and
- 2:07Speaker 1: wanton disregard for the safety of others. I'm not too
- 2:10Speaker 1: hip on all of the conspiracy theories surrounding this, but
- 2:14Speaker 1: was there somebody saying that the university was in on it?
- 2:18Speaker 1: They set it up or whatever? Is that one of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the ongoing theories along with Egyptian planes and Bigfoot and chupacabras?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Because I have to tell you It's all ridiculous. Now,
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm not saying that there isn't anything goofy going on here.
- 2:33Speaker 1: There certainly is. But does that mean there's some vast
- 2:37Speaker 1: cover-up involving other nations and the full force of the
- 2:41Speaker 1: American government? I highly doubt it. And up until this point,
- 2:45Speaker 1: I certainly don't see any signs of it. Now, again,
- 2:49Speaker 1: we're still very early on. And this dude has just
- 2:51Speaker 1: been binded over for trial. Things can change. And things
- 2:56Speaker 1: will change. Now, does that mean that it's going to
- 2:59Speaker 1: end up being something like, you know, we get evidence
- 3:02Speaker 1: that proves Tyler Robinson is not the guy? Maybe. I
- 3:06Speaker 1: don't find it to be likely, but it's possible. And
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm here for it. Wherever the evidence takes us, that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: where we'll go. And when I have an opinion about something,
- 3:15Speaker 1: I'll let you know that it's an opinion. Because it's
- 3:18Speaker 1: important to differentiate what's opinion, what's speculation, and what's fact.
- 3:23Speaker 1: But the report identified several eyebrow-raising decisions by school officials
- 3:28Speaker 1: that warrant attention, as UVU considers how to strengthen the
- 3:31Speaker 1: safety and security of campus events in the future. And
- 3:35Speaker 1: anytime you have one of these situations occur, there's going
- 3:39Speaker 1: to be reactionary responses. And there's going to be reports.
- 3:42Speaker 1: People are going to be clamoring to figure out what
- 3:44Speaker 1: happened and how they can try and fix it the
- 3:46Speaker 1: next time. And that's all fine and well, but it
- 3:48Speaker 1: certainly doesn't help Charlie Kirk, does it? The September 10th
- 3:52Speaker 1: TPUSA event presented several characteristics that warranted a more formal
- 3:56Speaker 1: event security planning process. The report stated, noting that Kirk
- 4:00Speaker 1: was a high-profile speaker, there was anticipated protest activity, uncertainty
- 4:05Speaker 1: about how many people were attending, and the event was
- 4:08Speaker 1: taking place outdoors near elevated vantage points. And unfortunately, in
- 4:13Speaker 1: this day and age, all of that has to be
- 4:15Speaker 1: taken into account. Never mind the fact that there's drones
- 4:18Speaker 1: and all kinds of other shit that can be involved.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So it's important if you have somebody that's giving a
- 4:24Speaker 1: speech on your property to have the proper security, right?
- 4:28Speaker 1: And if you have elevated positions, there has to be
- 4:31Speaker 1: something that negates that. Whether you have your own counter
- 4:34Speaker 1: snipers or whatever, you have to do what you got
- 4:37Speaker 1: to do. And if you're not capable of providing the
- 4:41Speaker 1: security required, you can't hold the event. And if you
- 4:44Speaker 1: do hold the event and something like this happens, you're
- 4:47Speaker 1: going to be left holding the bag. Although some coordination
- 4:50Speaker 1: occurred among university stakeholders, UVU PD, UVU Event Services, and
- 4:57Speaker 1: TPUSA representatives, the club event was not supported by a
- 5:01Speaker 1: comprehensive written security assessment or event action plan, investigators found.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Now look, Charlie Kirk's somebody that obviously was getting death threats,
- 5:10Speaker 1: somebody that had political enemies. Why wasn't his team more involved, right?
- 5:15Speaker 1: Why weren't they more adamant about this being a secure environment?
- 5:20Speaker 1: Now look, I'm not saying that his team was in
- 5:22Speaker 1: on it and they, you know, assassinated Charlie Kirk. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: obviously mistakes were made. And in the wake of what
- 5:28Speaker 1: happened to Charlie Kirk, questions are going to be asked.
- 5:32Speaker 1: The report noted that the outdoor location for the Kirk
- 5:34Speaker 1: event was surrounded by buildings, elevated areas, pedestrian routes, and
- 5:39Speaker 1: multiple vantage points, making line of sight assessment, elevated position review,
- 5:44Speaker 1: building access control, arrival and departure planning, crowd control, protest management,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and fixed post assignments especially important. While some concerns were
- 5:54Speaker 1: recognized and responded to by university personnel, the planning process
- 5:59Speaker 1: did not include several critical measures, including a line of
- 6:02Speaker 1: sight assessment, protective operation considerations, pre-event briefing, structured walkthrough, with
- 6:08Speaker 1: all key security stakeholder. And that's crazy. As somebody that
- 6:13Speaker 1: was in charge of events for a long time here
- 6:15Speaker 1: in Las Vegas, no pre-event briefing? The first thing I
- 6:19Speaker 1: did was get with security. Like when we would get
- 6:22Speaker 1: a band to come through, I would get with security
- 6:24Speaker 1: right away. Yo, look, here's what we got. Here's who's
- 6:27Speaker 1: going to be here. And here's what we can expect.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And then we'd have another briefing with the actual road crew.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So we'd bring the production in, their security in, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: we'd have our whole game plan set. So it's crazy
- 6:40Speaker 1: to me that there was no walkthrough or pre-event briefing.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That is wild. There was also no clear coordination process
- 6:48Speaker 1: with Kirk's private security team or external law enforcement. Who's
- 6:52Speaker 1: the production manager here? That's the real question for me. Like,
- 6:56Speaker 1: who's in charge of TPUSA's production? Because they should have
- 6:59Speaker 1: done this with the pre-production call. Hey, look, here's our requirements.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I need this, that, the other thing. And obviously that
- 7:06Speaker 1: didn't happen, at least according to this report. So if
- 7:10Speaker 1: you want to blame TPUSA for something, that's certainly something
- 7:13Speaker 1: that you could chalk up as a big-time mistake. Because
- 7:17Speaker 1: if you're going to set up an event and you're
- 7:19Speaker 1: going to be the one who's planning it, you're the
- 7:21Speaker 1: production behind it. Everything's up to you. Security, sound, fucking drinks,
- 7:26Speaker 1: all of it. But again, just to be clear, that
- 7:29Speaker 1: doesn't mean that they all sat around and came up
- 7:31Speaker 1: with a plot to kill Charlie Kirk. But it does mean,
- 7:34Speaker 1: in my opinion, that a security team was probably negligent.
- 7:39Speaker 1: The original day of security posture planned for only three
- 7:42Speaker 1: university law enforcement officers securing the event. which was attended
- 7:46Speaker 1: by several thousand people. Well, that's never good either, okay?
- 7:51Speaker 1: And any event that we used to have at the
- 7:53Speaker 1: Hard Rock, we'd have a security as well as Metropolitan Police.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You know, the hotel would pay for them to come and,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, staff the event, make sure everything went off
- 8:03Speaker 1: the right way. And that was all done during pre-production.
- 8:07Speaker 1: And again, that's what I think the issue is here.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I don't think TPUSA has the proper production team. And
- 8:14Speaker 1: when you don't have the proper production team, you're screwed.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Everything's going to be a pain in the balls. Everything's
- 8:20Speaker 1: going to be a nightmare. And unfortunately, when it comes
- 8:23Speaker 1: to what happened to Charlie Kirk, it was even worse.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I mean, we're not talking about some mistakes on the
- 8:28Speaker 1: rider here. Oh, you don't have my M & Ms.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Where are my peanuts? We're talking about a man who
- 8:34Speaker 1: got shot. And I think that there is plenty of
- 8:37Speaker 1: room to take a look at everybody involved. Because in
- 8:40Speaker 1: situations like this, you have to get that HD view.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And everybody has to be looked at. And not just
- 8:46Speaker 1: from a criminal perspective, but from this sort of perspective too.
- 8:50Speaker 1: What could have been done? In what way could we
- 8:52Speaker 1: have mitigated this and made the event safer? But three
- 8:56Speaker 1: university law enforcement officers, that's it? That is a gigantic failure.
- 9:03Speaker 1: The number was up to six when the university police
- 9:05Speaker 1: chief noticed the size of the crowd, according to the report.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Investigators also found that the university deferred critical decision-making, including
- 9:13Speaker 1: where to hold the event, to TPUSA staff. That is terrible.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And look, I'm going to tell you right now, TPUSA
- 9:22Speaker 1: certainly deserves some criticism, and they deserve to be looked into.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And if they were negligent, which it certainly looks like
- 9:28Speaker 1: they were, then they need to be held to account.
- 9:33Speaker 1: The organization also wanted to use its own ticketing process
- 9:37Speaker 1: rather than the universities, which prevented school officials from knowing
- 9:40Speaker 1: exactly how many people would be attending the event. Yo,
- 9:44Speaker 1: this is why production is so important. I don't mean
- 9:46Speaker 1: to harp on it, but it's super important. All of
- 9:49Speaker 1: that has to be done prior to the event. That's
- 9:53Speaker 1: what you do the advance for. Like, holy shit, man.
- 9:59Speaker 1: In our assessment, though, decisions were consequential the report said
- 10:02Speaker 1: the university's actions were significantly inconsistent with its policies for
- 10:07Speaker 1: major events it added the report noted that TP USA
- 10:11Speaker 1: and Kirk security team did not participate in the review
- 10:15Speaker 1: like what why wouldn't you want to be part of
- 10:18Speaker 1: the review oh that's right You don't want to be
- 10:21Speaker 1: held accountable. Got it. And you know that TPUSA, they're
- 10:25Speaker 1: going to point every finger they have at UVU. And
- 10:28Speaker 1: the same is going to go back to TPUSA. And
- 10:30Speaker 1: it's going to become a shit show. Earlier this month,
- 10:35Speaker 1: the Kirk family issued a wrongful death notice to the
- 10:37Speaker 1: university signaling a potential lawsuit against the school was forthcoming.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And it's going to be CYA now. Cover your ass.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Everyone's running for the exits. Nobody wants to get left
- 10:48Speaker 1: in a burning building. So everybody's going to try and
- 10:51Speaker 1: sue everybody else. The notice accused the school of reckless decisions,
- 10:55Speaker 1: including not having emergency first responders, which allegedly hasten Kirk's death.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And that's another thing. Where's the fire marshal? Did the
- 11:03Speaker 1: fire marshal come and do a walkthrough and make sure
- 11:06Speaker 1: everything was good? Because the fire marshal surely was showing
- 11:10Speaker 1: up at my events. And you better believe everything better
- 11:13Speaker 1: be on point. Three feet in the aisles, no boxes
- 11:16Speaker 1: in front of door, the whole thing. So for me,
- 11:20Speaker 1: looking at it from a production standpoint, I'm blown away
- 11:23Speaker 1: with how terrible this all was. And you would think
- 11:26Speaker 1: that TPUSA, that, you know, they're on the road all
- 11:28Speaker 1: the time, that they'd have their production locked in. And
- 11:32Speaker 1: if they don't, maybe they should hire an outside production
- 11:34Speaker 1: manager that knows what they're doing. And if they need
- 11:37Speaker 1: some help finding somebody, I can point them in the
- 11:39Speaker 1: right direction. Because this shit right here is piss poor.
- 11:43Speaker 1: The buck stopped with UVU leadership and law enforcement, family
- 11:46Speaker 1: attorney Brett Parkinson said in a statement obtained by the
- 11:50Speaker 1: Associated Press. Justice for Charlie and his family requires true
- 11:54Speaker 1: accountability for UVU's fatal shortcomings that day. And look, hey,
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's an argument to be had. But I think the
- 12:01Speaker 1: production issues from TPUSA have to be discussed as well.
- 12:07Speaker 1: And I think there's a lot of blame to go
- 12:08Speaker 1: around here. Utah Valley President John Anderson said in a
- 12:13Speaker 1: statement that the school has a responsibility to learn from
- 12:16Speaker 1: the findings of this review and follow through on its recommendations.
- 12:21Speaker 1: He added that the university has made meaningful progress in
- 12:24Speaker 1: strengthening campus safety over the past year. Well, hey, look,
- 12:27Speaker 1: that's great. That's all fine and well. But there was
- 12:31Speaker 1: obviously a gigantic fuck up here. And now the argument is,
- 12:34Speaker 1: who is more at fault? And over the coming months,
- 12:37Speaker 1: that argument is certainly going to expand. And as the
- 12:40Speaker 1: argument expands, so will our coverage, because there's going to
- 12:44Speaker 1: be a lot to get to and a lot of
- 12:45Speaker 1: ground to cover. And as that journey continues, we'll be
- 12:48Speaker 1: here every step of the way. All the information that
- 12:52Speaker 1: goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
