Latest / Brett Keane and Eve Show / My Family Doesn't Appreciate my Accomplishments

- 0:03I am the way I am. One of the toughest things
- 0:48growing up is whenever you come to the realization that no
- 0:52matter what you do in your life, no matter how much you
- 0:55accomplished, those closest to you, those who are supposed to
- 0:59be genetically, tied to you and bonded to you, whenever they
- 1:03show that, they don't appreciate anything.
- 1:05You do that. They don't care about anything
- 1:08that you've ever created. And he projects anything that
- 1:11you have made that you put your heart and soul and passion into
- 1:16When they tell you, they have no interest whatsoever or say
- 1:20nothing at all. It's probably one of the most
- 1:23painful things that a child or an adult can deal with.
- 1:28And I know there's a lot of you out there like that.
- 1:30A lot of you who've went through some of the experiences that I
- 1:34have some of you probably did really, really well in school.
- 1:39But instead of people appreciating you for it, they
- 1:42feel as though, it was just simply expected, it's either
- 1:45they throw you You in the deep end and they say, well, you're
- 1:48either going to swim or you're going to drown.
- 1:50It's really up to you and that's their attitude about it.
- 1:55So you do well in school. You go on to do in college, you
- 1:59go on to making something of yourself and still these people.
- 2:03See no value in you. And of course, you're saying to
- 2:05yourself. Why did they even give birth to
- 2:08me? Why did they bring me into the
- 2:09world? They don't care about anything.
- 2:12I do. And some of you out there,
- 2:14you've got family members wear Are they never appreciated you?
- 2:20They never supported you. But when you started doing good
- 2:24for yourself, when your things or your product started selling
- 2:28all of a sudden they started coming out of the woodwork and
- 2:31wanting a handout. Are they wanted something given
- 2:33to them? Are they wanted to get a piece
- 2:37of the pie so they could get some kind of credibility or
- 2:39acknowledgement off your back. I've had that happen a lot to me
- 2:45as a kid as well as an adult. It's an experience I've had to
- 2:50deal with and I suppose we'll talk about how I put up with it
- 2:54and how it just doesn't drive me.
- 2:55Absolutely insane. And make me want to do a palsy
- 2:58go and drive off the damn Bridge goodness.
- 3:04When I was a kid, obviously I've said this before, my father
- 3:09ended leaving very early and my life.
- 3:12When I was brought into the world, he would eventually come
- 3:15back every once in a while just long enough to get my mother
- 3:18pregnant again. And then, of course, it was my
- 3:21mother who had a lot of mental issues that caused her to sleep,
- 3:27going to Violent hostile rages. And sometimes she got so bad me
- 3:33as well as my siblings, but end up in foster care.
- 3:37And when you're in foster care, usually you're put in with five
- 3:40or ten other kids or a It until home, or some kind of
- 3:44organization where you grow up and wherever the system can find
- 3:48a bed for you to throw you in. A lot of these type of people,
- 3:53they don't really show any kind of interest in what you're doing
- 3:58either because they have all these other kids I got to worry
- 4:01about and unfortunately when you get put in places in the system,
- 4:06some of these places they do it, not because they love kids and
- 4:09they want to raise kids, but because they get a hefty
- 4:12paycheck from the government to do that.
- 4:15I've often wondered. Why is it that on wealthy or
- 4:19poor parents are parents, who are bad?
- 4:21Odd on their luck or something like crappy happened to them in
- 4:26the family structure becomes unstable.
- 4:29What isn't the government? Send them a check?
- 4:32You know, why why take kids out of place?
- 4:35Because there's not enough food or, you know, enough Necessities
- 4:40when you can just send you, no money to the family themselves
- 4:44so they can take care of their kid.
- 4:46Obviously, there's some families out there that would rather go
- 4:49out and buy smack and cocaine off of of the street or spend
- 4:54their nightly money on a prostitute as opposed to taking
- 4:58care of their newborn baby and I could go on all damn day about
- 5:02that. But in my personal experiences,
- 5:07I the only thing that I ever seem to get appreciated about
- 5:11whenever came to my creativity or imagination, whenever came to
- 5:15family was music. And I did an entire video about
- 5:20why I walked away from music and musicians and all that you guys
- 5:24can check that out if you want. But when I first started doing
- 5:29music, I was doing a lot of cover tunes, like I had my
- 5:33mother. Be watching a soap opera on
- 5:35television or something like Young and the Restless or Bold
- 5:38and the Beautiful. And I would pull out my little
- 5:41organ and learn how to play it, like five minutes and she
- 5:44thought that was the coolest thing ever.
- 5:46Now, if I tried to play an original or I tried to play
- 5:49something that I made up and she wouldn't even be distracted from
- 5:54her television show, she just go on doing anything unless it was
- 5:58something that she liked her, she cared about, then what I was
- 6:02doing, didn't really matter. Either it wasn't important or
- 6:05significant. That's one of the reasons why
- 6:10she and I didn't get along too. Well whenever I was a young man
- 6:14either because if she wanted to go to church and I didn't want
- 6:17to because I was playing, my friends are doing other things,
- 6:22you would get a threat, you know, told you going to get
- 6:25kicked out of the house or something like that.
- 6:27If you didn't like attend a church or get in the car with
- 6:30her and go where she wants to, it's the way it was, that's the
- 6:34way life had been So obviously later on my life I made a couple
- 6:40CD albums and I ended up writing some books.
- 6:43I started writing whenever I was a teenager well I was in foster
- 6:48care. I didn't like constantly having
- 6:51ten kids all over me in a foster care or wherever I was existing
- 6:55at the time. So I would go into a room and I
- 6:58wrote all kinds of material and content.
- 7:01Filled tons of notebooks up and it was my way of escaping the
- 7:05world and reality. I basically created families and
- 7:10Covenants in a fantasy world where good was versus evil.
- 7:15If you were to look at some of my older books that I had
- 7:18written whenever I was a teenager back, when I was just
- 7:21starting out and learning how to even ride in the first place.
- 7:26You would probably get the an underground or underworld vibe
- 7:30from it. You know, if you've ever seen
- 7:34underworld before, it's basically a story about a family
- 7:37of vampires, a covenant that is at war with werewolves.
- 7:42Well, my book was a lot more bigger than that and it was
- 7:46before underworld. It was vampires Angels, demons
- 7:51werewolves. Every mythological character
- 7:54that you can Think of versus each other in the hopes to
- 7:59dominate the world. And of course, the human race
- 8:01was in the middle of it, and it was definitely a world.
- 8:06That was completely different and many, many ways than our
- 8:11world today. Just, you could literally in my
- 8:14story here about a werewolf, or a vampire fighting to the death
- 8:19and the middle of the street out in public, which is not
- 8:22something you would ever see. In reality, was pure, Fantasy.
- 8:26Pure fiction that kind of content nowadays, I've written a
- 8:31few books and I actually have a new book that's going to release
- 8:34which is going to be my autobiography.
- 8:36It's a book about my life, it's not just about my existence but
- 8:41also what I did through social media, as well as my personal
- 8:46life and all that, all the bad, all the good.
- 8:49I told my wife, if I'm going to write a book about my life, I
- 8:52want people to be able to know the negative stuff, as well as
- 8:55good stuff. I don't want to portray myself
- 8:57as some kind of hero or super character and didn't want to
- 9:03make it appear as though I was always right or writing myself,
- 9:08as some anthropomorphic character that unrealistically
- 9:12seems to be able to survive and win at everything it does, or
- 9:16it's overpowered like the tick off the new Star Wars movies,
- 9:21because it's not the way my life is ever been.
- 9:25I've always felt that it was distasteful.
- 9:29Whenever actor says her, actors are famous people go and get
- 9:33somebody some professional Ghostwriter to write their story
- 9:37for them. And of course, they rarely ever
- 9:40write about the negative stuff unless they feel like it's a way
- 9:45that they can slight someone else that they don't like, but
- 9:48they rarely paint them self as, you know, a person who's done
- 9:53wrong. Or bad or are made mistakes and
- 9:56all that. I do not enjoy books like that.
- 9:59I enjoy hearing about how people struggled, how they suffered,
- 10:04how they went to hell and back, and then ended up somehow,
- 10:10someway, surviving the obstacles in their life.
- 10:14Like what people actually do in real life and the truth is, in
- 10:18reality. Not everybody wins.
- 10:22Not everybody is the fastest in a race, not everyone's the
- 10:27smartest, not everyone, Superbook smart, some people are
- 10:30Street Smart, some people can survive out in the jungle and
- 10:34some people can survive being the, like, a big CEO or
- 10:37something of a corporation. Well, I end up writing these
- 10:47books obviously, and I had felt like a because of my family
- 10:51structure and what was going on. I didn't have the self-esteem or
- 10:56confidence to ever even tried to publish those first books.
- 11:01My Trilogy 20 notebooks that were all written out the idea of
- 11:06sitting down and actually, typing all that out.
- 11:09Just seemed like it was a waste of time.
- 11:11Why even bother I'll Ever get published, nothing will ever
- 11:14happen. I had that kind of attitude but
- 11:18my wife, she ended up looking through all my material and my
- 11:21content. And she thought there was a lot
- 11:23there, that was good. And then redeemable and worth
- 11:26actually keeping she loved me, she cared about me and she
- 11:30supported me and it was very unusual for me to be married to
- 11:35a person like this because all of my life I had always had the
- 11:39expectation or the idea that people who claim to love me
- 11:42aren't Necessarily going to care about what I have to say, or
- 11:46what I'm doing, or what I accomplished.
- 11:48She was a real breath of fresh air.
- 11:50She really showed me what love was and what it meant to support
- 11:54someone and all that. But my wife and some friends got
- 11:59together, they ended up putting the books together and we ended
- 12:03up getting self-published. We did try a couple big
- 12:07publishing companies but trying to publish a book is just as
- 12:13challenging or difficult and trying to get signed as a band.
- 12:17There are thousands of bands in this world that are absolutely
- 12:21talented. Some of them more talented than
- 12:23the filth that you see on Mt. TV or some of these music
- 12:28stations are what you hear on the radio, but the problem is
- 12:32that it's someone's Choice. Someone may listen to the music
- 12:37but not like the way the band looks and decide.
- 12:40I can't sell the image music has become very image oriented.
- 12:45You got to be willing to wear big stupid, hats act, dumb dance
- 12:49with practically naked, women and videos and you got to
- 12:54basically serve as Ariel type music Industries, usually like
- 13:00to go along with whatever culture seems the like at the
- 13:03time and if it seems make money then they'll just simply put
- 13:07copy after copy copy you know Carbon copies of Eminem are
- 13:12carbon copies of a TV 80's bands and they'll never change until
- 13:18somebody somehow manages to break through and then if that
- 13:23turns out good, then that's what the next 10 years is going to
- 13:26be. B.
- 13:27And that's how music follows will books.
- 13:29You the same way. And unfortunately because a lot
- 13:32of people are more Visual and they get into like television
- 13:37and they get into You know, watching things on the screen,
- 13:43whether it's through Facebook or Twitter or YouTube, a lot of
- 13:47people aren't really into reading anymore.
- 13:49Why? I read something why?
- 13:50I read a comic book, some kind of comic book that's got
- 13:53beautiful. Arden it when you can watch the
- 13:56animated series on television, are you can watch a movie where
- 14:01you can just sit back on your ass and not put any kind of
- 14:04concentration on it whatsoever and just watch whatever is being
- 14:09sludged at you. That way, no point in even
- 14:11bothering to read a book, who gives a shit what the characters
- 14:15are actually thinking, or what they're feeling, what's just
- 14:19have, the cookie cutter superhero or character, you
- 14:22know, do the event that we want and then, you know, a
- 14:26predetermined outcome that we think that the audience May
- 14:30appreciate or like and then make the big bucks.
- 14:33And of course, if we don't get the big bucks, then there's no
- 14:36sequels nothing happens. We don't continue on with That
- 14:40anymore, even if it may have been a success to a majority,
- 14:44the people it's all about the money, really?
- 14:48Well, obviously after we got my books published, I ended up
- 14:54sending a bowl, cookbooks out the different family members.
- 14:58I gave copies of my book to my sister, my brother.
- 15:02The this is the original Eternal Undying Love series that I had
- 15:07the first books I wrote whenever I was a teenager and I also sent
- 15:11a bulk of books out to the grandmother that's still alive.
- 15:15I have a grandmother on my mother's side.
- 15:17He passed away from Cancer. But the grandmother on the other
- 15:20side is from my father's side and she's like this, real
- 15:23Commando strict type of woman who basically is very
- 15:27controlling manipulative and does not ever have anything to
- 15:31do with her grandkids and I thought that she might
- 15:35appreciate me and see that. I've actually done something
- 15:38that I am valuable enough to actually spend time with or talk
- 15:42to or even bother to give me a phone call.
- 15:46So, I sent her out. The entire Trilogy of Eternal
- 15:50Undying Love. Well, what she did was one day
- 15:55she stops by and it surprised me because she didn't call and tell
- 16:00me she was going to show up. She ends up coming in.
- 16:05He sits down with a box in her hand and I say, hey, how you
- 16:11doing all that? And she brings along one of her
- 16:14daughters. Who is basically a sibling of my
- 16:16father? And she said, I stopped by.
- 16:21I was in the area. I'm going to be going to St.
- 16:23Louis for something, I forget what it was.
- 16:26And she said I wanted to return these to you, and she opened up
- 16:29the box and it was my books. There was no folds or bends.
- 16:34She had never even bothered to read any of them.
- 16:37She didn't even bother to open them.
- 16:39And look at what they the contents inside of the
- 16:42substance. Anything she said, well, you
- 16:46know, I appreciate you sending. The books but I don't like the
- 16:50covers. It's too dark.
- 16:52It's too, it's too like rough-looking.
- 16:56So I didn't bother to read them and I go well that's that's sad
- 17:03to hear. You've had them for almost a
- 17:05year now and he didn't. He didn't even read like a
- 17:08couple lines or chapter. Nope, didn't do that.
- 17:13Just not my type of thing. I was like, you even know what
- 17:18the books are about. I did have a big summary and
- 17:21description on the back of the books.
- 17:23She could have cheated and actually claimed that she want
- 17:26looked at some of that are at least read the description.
- 17:29But she goes now, I seen your artwork, I senior graphic design
- 17:34stuff that you did and I just it didn't appeal to me whatsoever.
- 17:40And I kept thinking to myself while I was sitting there and I
- 17:43said, well Grandma, you could have just kept the books, put
- 17:46them on your shelf, let him pick up some dust or something.
- 17:50You didn't have to, you know, I hardly are rarely ever see you
- 17:54or talk to. You could have just simply kept
- 17:57the books. And, you know, gave me that
- 17:59weird idea that, you know, that they were important enough for
- 18:03you to keep, but she wouldn't even love.
- 18:06Let me have that she wouldn't even Allow me the delusion or
- 18:11the ignorance of bliss, to be able to believe that they were
- 18:15important enough to even have setting on her table.
- 18:18Nope. So she gave him back to me and I
- 18:22remember my wife looked at me like what a bitch.
- 18:28My wife actually said that after she left what a bitch and to be
- 18:33honest with you, she is a bitch. That's a that's a very hateful
- 18:38ignorant thing to do. And it did break my heart.
- 18:41It caused me to feel like shit. I was like my goodness.
- 18:45She didn't even give it a chance.
- 18:47She didn't even give it an opportunity and, of course, my
- 18:50siblings were the same way. I've always tried to go out of
- 18:54my way. Anytime my brother says, I've
- 18:57got a new song. I wrote, brother, I sit down.
- 19:01I listen to a song and sometimes we listen to it 10 times.
- 19:04And I tell him, Man, this is good stuff.
- 19:07You did really great. I love the way the stumps.
- 19:09I like the way the so logos and I really give him a lot of
- 19:13feedback and support but not once in my entire life is my
- 19:17brother and sister ever actually looked at any of my projects,
- 19:22the only time my brother ever, listen to anything I did was
- 19:26whenever he was involved or participated in the music
- 19:29himself back whenever he was younger later on, he didn't want
- 19:33to hear anything I had to do. He did not want to have anything
- 19:37to do with my slow music or my bow LEDs, or my more chill
- 19:42stuff. It all had to be heavier thrash
- 19:44or just basically it was it had to have a certain image to it or
- 19:49certain feel or just wasn't no good.
- 19:52And that's sad because he and I we'd always we grown up on a lot
- 19:58of the same music. We listen to Queen.
- 20:00Elton John Megadeth Metallica Slayer and then we could turn
- 20:05around listen to To Journey, you know, great white, all the
- 20:10slower bands, sting, you know, just everything that you can
- 20:16imagine what I could turn their, I could listen to Richard Marx,
- 20:20I'll be waiting for you and then turn around.
- 20:23Listen to something hateful, like deicide or something.
- 20:28I don't know at what point in time, he Became so very narrow
- 20:34and his use of music. Or at least when performing it,
- 20:38it just somehow happened. And what's sad about it too.
- 20:42Is he's a prodigy. He's capable of doing blues, and
- 20:47ballads and melodic stuff. He just doesn't want to do that.
- 20:51He wants to do thrash and heavy metal, which I like, I enjoy.
- 20:56And I've always supported him on it, but I can't get the man to
- 21:01act. Actually read a page of a book.
- 21:03Now, I will give him credit for this, unlike my grandmother and
- 21:08some of my other family members, my brother did tell me that he
- 21:12did, open it up and he looked at some of the pictures and thought
- 21:15it was pretty cool. He does like the covers of my
- 21:18books but he just didn't find the time to be able to ever read
- 21:22it. And neither did my sister and
- 21:25the justification is that they're busy people, which they
- 21:28are. I give them that.
- 21:31It's too bad. They couldn't at least read one
- 21:33single chapter or paragraph though but that's how the cookie
- 21:37crumbles. Hmm, like I said, people, I'm
- 21:46trying to get out the cigarettes.
- 21:48I smoke Vapors, a lot. That's what I'm doing back here
- 21:51whenever I pause or hold for a bit.
- 21:59So, I mean, a lot of kids, in a lot of adults, you have your
- 22:03projects, you have used things that you work on, and obviously,
- 22:07whenever I spent the last 10 years to an atheist videos, my
- 22:12family was constantly shutting Army for that, you know, they
- 22:15were like, oh, you lack a belief in God, you know, that's that's
- 22:19terrible, that's satanic. That's he will blah, blah, blah
- 22:22and all that. So I had to put up with that for
- 22:25the longest time I had basically almost made a career of doing
- 22:29atheist videos and of course, no one in the family appreciated
- 22:34that they didn't want to see it, they didn't want to hear about
- 22:36it. And they actually felt almost
- 22:39embarrassed with the idea of going out in public with me
- 22:42because they were religious. And I was not So it's been like
- 22:49that all the way up into my adulthood and I feel for all the
- 22:54kids out there as well as adults, were you busted your
- 22:57ass? And you've done really, really
- 22:59good work. And you put a lot of time into
- 23:02what you've done in a lot of passion and that happens.
- 23:07So the next question you might ask me.
- 23:09Well, what about strangers? My books have sold pretty good,
- 23:13even the older stuff I've had people It does feel as though
- 23:18there are more haters and trolls who spend more time we seem to
- 23:23have enough time in their life to be able to either burn your
- 23:25book on a video or they'll buy it and then they'll burn it just
- 23:29make you. I guess they think that's going
- 23:32to hurt my feelings or something or they'll go over and say oh he
- 23:36writes like a 12 year old or something like that.
- 23:39Where your supporters and your fans don't put a whole lot of
- 23:42effort into actually telling you what they think I've had tons.
- 23:46Tons and tons of people tell me behind the scenes, man, when you
- 23:50write your next book, I love this and they described the
- 23:53story to you and who their favorite characters are and all
- 23:56that. And that feels awesome.
- 23:59That feels great but I also even one ever comes to like haters.
- 24:04If a hater actually looked through the book and made it
- 24:07through two chapters and they gave it a chance to me, that's
- 24:13an accomplishment if they hate it.
- 24:16The words, well, that's their business.
- 24:18That's their feelings. But at least I gave it a shot.
- 24:22At least they put the money forward to actually, you know,
- 24:26by something that I put my heart and soul into and gave it much
- 24:32more than what my family ever would.
- 24:35That actually makes me feel good.
- 24:38If they say they read it and it didn't work out for them then,
- 24:41you know, there's no feelings hurt, there's no sadness,
- 24:45there's no, oh, Oh, no, they didn't get it or whatever,
- 24:48because I know that not everything is everybody's cup of
- 24:52tea. I know that some music, I listen
- 24:56to other people. Won't I know that some things
- 24:58that people draw forms of art, people are just simply not going
- 25:03to gravitate towards. So I get that, but if someone's
- 25:07willing to look at your painting, if someone's willing
- 25:09to listen to your song are willing to read some of your
- 25:13material. Whether they walk away from it,
- 25:16loving and her hating it, you have to give them the credit and
- 25:20Pat them on the back for at least.
- 25:22Trying to give it a shot. Basically, what I'm saying is,
- 25:29I'd rather people try and put an effort than not.
- 25:33Try at all. And I'm not just saying that to
- 25:36the people who are the audience, who absorbs, the art that
- 25:43they're looking at. I'm talking about the artist
- 25:46himself. Don't give up.
- 25:50Don't allow other people's negativity.
- 25:53Stop you from accomplishing something that you want to do.
- 25:58If you decide that you want to write a book or draw comic book
- 26:03or you want to make music, don't do it.
- 26:06Because you think it's going to make you money.
- 26:08Don't do it. Because you think people will
- 26:10like you more do it because you inside yourself love it and it's
- 26:16what you want to do. Because if you base it on what
- 26:20other people think, people are stupid.
- 26:23People are brittle and fragile people.
- 26:27They don't some people don't even know what actual art is.
- 26:31Some people don't give a damn about art.
- 26:33Some people would take a Mona Lisa and wipe their ass with it.
- 26:37They don't care. Some people will dump on a
- 26:40painting to simply because it was painted by a religious
- 26:44person or because it was painted by a non-believer.
- 26:47If there's some kind of character trait, they don't like
- 26:50about a person then they'll take a perfectly beautiful
- 26:53constructed piece of art and wipe their ass with it.
- 26:57So you can't depend on what an audience thinks or what people
- 27:01think. When you're writing, you have to
- 27:05write because this is a story. You want to tell?
- 27:08This is a story that needs to be hurt.
- 27:11This is the art that needs to happen.
- 27:14This is from you. This is not from them.
- 27:19And that's how I'm able to continuously.
- 27:22Do my graphic design work, it's how I'm able to continue to do
- 27:25my art, it's how I do my videos and all that, and you know
- 27:30what's, what some of you might actually think that this is a
- 27:33kick in the teeth as well. But even though I'm a Christian
- 27:37now and I'm making videos about God, my family still thinks that
- 27:43I'm incorrect or and how I feel. So now they're telling me they
- 27:48won't even Look at my God videos.
- 27:51They won't even look at this stuff where I'm actually
- 27:53promoting even their own beliefs and ideas.
- 27:59And what I do is I look at it for what it is, it's not that
- 28:04these people have a problem with my book.
- 28:06It's not that these people have a problem with my art, are my
- 28:10music or my videos. The fact is they just don't give
- 28:14a shit at all. They don't care.
- 28:18And the truth is, when you really think about it and this
- 28:21is going to be cold. Some people are going to hate
- 28:24this for the family members out there who don't appreciate your
- 28:28accomplishments, and the people out there who want to run their
- 28:31mouths off in a dark corner, every one of these people most
- 28:36likely never accomplish it in their life, nine times out of
- 28:40ten. Most of these people who don't
- 28:42even give it a shot or shit on. You have never written a book in
- 28:46their life. I've never painted a masterpiece
- 28:49or a portrait will never know what it feels like to be on a
- 28:54stage and perform a song that they originally created.
- 29:00None of these people will ever have that experience.
- 29:02They will never even know what it's like to put that kind of
- 29:07passion, love and commitment in the something, so my advice is
- 29:13fuck what they think. Do it because you love it.
- 29:16Do it because it's right, don't do it for money.
- 29:20Don't do it for pussy. Don't do it for fame and fortune
- 29:24or the inflate, your ego, do it because you love it.
- 29:28Because I'll tell you what if you do it completely and you
- 29:31commit yourself because you love it when other people start
- 29:35showing that they love it, just as half as much as you do, it's
- 29:39going to make you feel so good inside.
- 29:43You're going to the more and more positive things that are
- 29:46actually said and done. The more accomplished, you're
- 29:49going to feel because you know, that everything that you put
- 29:53your heart into, it's a piece of you.
- 29:56It's a piece of your soul. And everything goes up from
- 30:01there. Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you
- 30:07enjoyed the video and I hope this inspires you and motivates
- 30:10you to be able to get through the darkness and over the
- 30:14obstacles and make something that's beautiful.
- 30:18God bless.
