- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Hi everyone, and welcome to Books and Box Office Besties.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I'm Wendy, and this is my co-host Kim.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: How are you today, Kim?
- 0:40SPEAKER_02: I'm doing great.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: How are you?
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 0:43SPEAKER_02: And I was just wondering what you've been up to lately.
- 0:47SPEAKER_02: Well, unpacking my suitcase, doing laundry.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: That's about it.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: That sounds pretty exciting.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: So really.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, I mean, it means you went somewhere.
- 0:58SPEAKER_02: So let's tell us a little bit about where you were.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: I just went to Prague, Vienna, Budapest in England.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: Just, just.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, just, just.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: No, it was really nice.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: But today's the first day that I had a hard time with the time difference.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: At 4 30, I was wide awake, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I was like, let's start the day.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, so so we should have recorded it at 4 30 a.m.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: is what you're telling me.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Well, at least by 6 a.m., I would have been I would have been in good form.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Right now, you know, I'll try not to fall asleep.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: But hey, I'm good.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I'm good.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: But I ate a lot of good food, came back a little heavier.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I've got a few recipes.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Tony made me uh waffles with apples in it this morning.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: Oh, that sounds good.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: But one of the things that really stuck out that I ate, oh my god, oh good god, at the time, but I had beef shin.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know what beef shin is.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I'm thinking, oh my god, I hope that I hope that cow had a tender shin.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Where did where did you have that?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Where England, England, England at a pub, but it was really good.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, everything was really good, but coming back took us about 18, 19 hours.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: So I'm a little tired right now.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: So, what about you?
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: What are you up to?
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: I'm glad you had a good time.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: It sounds like it was fun.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: And next time you'll be with me and we'll go over there.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: I know all the hot spots.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: All right, sounds good.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, so what'd you do?
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Tell me about you.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: It seems like you had more fun than I did.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: No, well, I mean, I have a little bit of a tea for everybody.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, drop it, drop it, drop it, please.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reed is being made into a movie with Netflix.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: It's being directed by Anna Kendrick.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: They haven't picked a cast yet, but I'm really looking forward to it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know about you, but well, like I said yesterday, Wendy, to be honest, we haven't gotten the call yet because I'm sure the only two people that can play that part is me and you.
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, we'll see.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to see who the cast is.
- 3:01SPEAKER_02: And I love Anna Kendrick.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: She's a great director.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I mean, she's she as you brought up, she directed that movie.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Was it serial killer?
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I can't remember what it was called.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: It was a true story, and the serial killer was on a game show.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: I think it was the dating game back then.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the dating game.
- 3:20SPEAKER_02: And it was a really good movie.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And unfortunately, I don't I'm I would have to Google it right now, but trust me, Anna Kendrick is a good director, not just not just a good actor.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: So really looking forward to that.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: Then this week I've been listening, catching up on my podcasts.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: I happen to listen to Two Girls One Ghost, because I like paranormal podcasts, and they mentioned another podcast called Wind of Change, and it sort of piqued my interest.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Now, you know, I like rock music and books and documentaries and rock music.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: So I looked at the face, yeah.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I I was interested.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: So, and they said it wasn't new that it was out there several years ago, but I looked it up anyway, and it was about the Scorpion song Wind of Change that came out as a single in January 1991.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: I'm sure you've all probably heard it.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: It's it's really popular.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: It's about the end of the Cold War, and it was a global hit and one of the best-selling singles of all time.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: They sold 14 to 15 million copies worldwide.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Now, I'm not into conspiracy theories, but this podcast is actually about the song being written by the CIA, and I thought, yeah, right, okay.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: But I gave it a listen.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: Yes, but I gave it a listen.
- 4:39SPEAKER_02: I think it's there's like eight podcasts on uh, you know, eight, it's like a series.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: And it was actually pretty interesting.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: It really was.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, it it brought up some good points.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: If the CIA is trying to get to a majority of people, how's it going to get there?
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: Through pop culture or you know, through I mean, what other ways do they have to use it?
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Actually, it was very interesting.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: I mean, I'm not saying I'm a believer or anything, but it's still out there if you're interested.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, if you can control social media exactly what gets people to tick, then you can control the world, pretty much.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Or shape their shape their opinions and views.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: It was just very interesting.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: And then other listen to it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I sent it to you yesterday.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Other than that, I finished reading Never Lie by Freedom McFadden and I loved it.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: I think it's coming out as a Netflix movie, also, if you're into psychological thrillers and mysteries.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I'm actually hoping we can do a podcast on it if my co-host over here agrees.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: I don't think you've read it yet, right?
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: No, I haven't.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, you can give it a try and see if you'd like that.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: Um, we have so many books coming up that we want to do, though.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: I also read the new Kristen Higgins book, The Me I Used to Be, and I am a Kristen Higgins fan.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: So I was so excited.
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: And as soon as it came out, I started reading it that day.
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: And at first I was disappointed because it wasn't the usual romantic comedy.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: But as I started to get into it, I realized it it was a good read about a woman with early onset dementia and how her friends and family processed it with her.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: So not what I expected, but interesting and heartwarming in a sad sort of way.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: And I was just really looking forward to the usual sappy romantic comedy.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: So I didn't realize she was going going in a different direction.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: You wanted a pick-me-up.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: And this book it was not a pick-me-up.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: She went in a totally different direction.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: It's ripped your heart out.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: It was, but I got on board and uh, you know, because I well, I got on board and it was a very good book because she's a good author.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: But I was just looking for something light and funny.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: If anybody has any recommendations for something light and funny, because she was my go-to author, so I hope she gets back to her sappy comedy romantic books.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: So are we ready to get started with our book this week?
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: We're doing On a Quiet Street by Sarah Fina Nova Glass.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: Well, actually, yes, I am.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: I'm very excited about it.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: And I finished the book while I was flying the friendly skies on my Kindle.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: Well, uh Sarah Fina Nova Glass, we haven't done her before.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: She's a mystery author and a professor at the University of Texas, Arlington.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: She's also a screenwriter and an award-winning playwright.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: And this particular book of hers on a quiet street is currently in development to become a television miniseries.
- 7:34SPEAKER_03: So I know.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: I look forward to that.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: I couldn't find where to watch it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: I believe it was picked up by Fox TV.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Do you know, Kim, yet where we're gonna Okay.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: So before we start, and and by the way, we probably will do that on our podcast, but we'll see.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: Because there's again, there's so many things, so many fun things to do.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: But before Kim starts, what are we gonna do in the podcast?
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: You say we'll probably do it on the podcast.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: What is it that we're gonna do?
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: I should know about the movie that's been picked up by Fox, a mini-series on a quiet street.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Okay, oh mini-series, okay, yeah.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Of course, after we after you read the book, you're gonna watch the movie and then criticize it.
- 8:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we could probably do that as a side podcast, you know, as a side to what we're doing.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: So, spoiler alert.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: If you did not read the book, we will be giving away the ending.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: So if you want to read the book without us spoiling it, please hit pause now and come back to us when you're done.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Do you think they'll come back, Kim?
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Who wouldn't?
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: Right, exactly.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: So let's get started.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, so for those of you who haven't read the book, I'm just gonna give it a recap here.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: So bear with me.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: So as Wendy said, it's on a quiet street.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: The story takes place in a very nice upper-end neighborhood where successful people live.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: The neighbors pretty much know each other, at least the latest gossip.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: The story centers around three neighbors.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Neighbor one, Paige and Grant, who own an Italian restaurant.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Neighbor two, Cora, a journalist who quit her career to raise her daughter Mia, who now is a teenager, and Finn, her husband, who is a successful businessman.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: And neighbor number three, Lucas, a very prominent judge in the community, and his beautiful wife Georgia and their little baby girl Avery.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: The neighborhood and its beautiful people may be the envy of some looking in, but in reality, they are broken.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Paige and Grant suffered the loss of a son, Caleb, a year ago, and Paige has never gotten over the grief.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: He was found dead in the entrance of the community.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: The police call it a hit and run, but Paige is convinced it was a murder, and she is determined to find the killer.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: This is where things get interesting.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: She is so consumed by her grief that she has pushed her husband away.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: He no longer lives at home with her.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Instead, he stays above the Italian restaurant, a small apartment.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: He cannot bear to hear another conspiracy theory.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Instead, he comes home once a week to check on her and cut the grass.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: If only she would ask him to stay, he would stay in a heartbeat.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: Paige.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Well, she has a records on everyone in the neighborhood who she thinks was involved in her son's death.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: To confirm her theories, she often breaks into people's garages at night to check for dents on their cars and monitors their whereabouts.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Crazy.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: In hush whispers, she is known as the poor lady who lost her son and acts a wee bit crazy.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Her only real friend is Cora.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: Cora is a kind-hearted woman who devoted herself to raising Mia, participating in community events, and organizing fundraisers.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: She feels the connection between her and her husband dwindling.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: She is convinced he's having an affair.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: But when she tries to accuse him of this, it backfires.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: And he usually makes her sound like a paranoid old lady.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: Cora's usual evening now is going to Paige's house, sipping wine, listening to Paige's latest conspiracy theories and talking about the new neighbors, Lucas and Georgia.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Cora interrupts her and blurts out.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: She thinks Finn is having an affair.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: And since Paige is so crafty at tracking people, she kind of wants Paige to follow Finn and see what is going on.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: Paige, as a good neighbor, listens intently to Cora.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: After Cora explains what has happened before when she tried to accuse him, he turns things around and makes her feel like a fool.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yes, he had lipstick on his collar, but hey, what the heck?
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Everyone gives everyone a kiss at a luncheon.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Perfume on his skin goes without saying.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: And she even seen a text message saying, Hey baby, when are you coming over?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Of course, that's just how Thelma talks to everybody.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: No big deal, Cora.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Well, and more importantly, is the prenup.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: If she files for divorce, she gets nothing.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: If there is infidelity, she gets it all.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Pay attention.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: This has sparked Paige's interest.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: She accepts.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: She knows Finn is as guilty as sin.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Poor Cora.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: She is just too soft and kind.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: More like she really doesn't want to know the truth.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: But she doesn't want to be replaced by a younger model either.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Paige is going to get that son of a bitch.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: She will need to get undeniable evidence.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: This is actually what Paige needed to bring her out into the land of the living.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Cora, being Cora, waits for Georgia to walk out her back door to her porch with the baby.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: As soon as she sees that, she goes over there with her famous apple crumble.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: She notices that Georgia's a little off.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Uncomfortable, you might say.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: When they first moved in, Georgia and Lucas seemed like such a wonderful young couple.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: But now the hush gossip in the neighborhood is Georgia's having a hard time with things and is depressed and medicated and refuses to leave her house.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Her purr husband, he has his hands full.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Georgia thanks Cora for the apple crumble as she hears her heart pounding.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: Luckily, Avery wakes up screaming and Cora excuses herself.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Georgia can only think of Lucas and what this interaction is going to cost her.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Cora takes off to Paige and Grant's Italian restaurant, where she volunteered to coordinate the fundraiser.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Paige, she hopes, will show up to help out at least, but she knows that she's out on a mission and probably won't.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Cora, however, was a godsend.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: When the DJ's electronics went awry, she stepped in and played the piano.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Everyone applauded.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Cora hasn't felt this good or appreciated in such a long time.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: Cora watched how hard Grant worked and how kind he is.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: She wished her Finn was like that, but that would never happen.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: After the restaurant closed, Grant poured her a glass of wine and asked her to come back and play anytime she was free or she wants to.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: They talked for a while.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: He walked her to the door and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: They lingered for a minute and said goodnight.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: She thought about Grant but felt guilty for thinking some thoughts.
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: After all, this is her husband's best friend.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Wish Paige felt that way.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Anyways.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, Paige, the super sleuth, follows Finn to the bad side of town and watches him pick up a hooker and go into a sleazy hotel.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: She's got it.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: The picture, the time, the day.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: But this isn't enough.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Paige wants more.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Using her newly acquired skills as a burglar, she breaks into his car, steals his calendar, and poses as a delivery girl with flowers and goes into his office and steals his laptop.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, what an idiot he is.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Paige.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Come on, let's be honest.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: We all need a bestie like her.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: After Paige reviews the latest information, she downloads all his passwords and checks his calendar going back a year and his bank records.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Coincidentally, the day after Caleb died, he brought his car in to get fixed.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: There was a dent on his car.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Paige's blood is boiling.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: She's out for revenge.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Paige calls Cora and tells her she has nothing but still working on it.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Meanwhile, gets her hair and nails done and puts on the sexiest outfit she has.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: She just happens to show up where Finn is at a fancy bar with the boys.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: A little cat and mouse goes on for a while, shall I say.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: All I can really say is Paige does what she has to to get him to answer a few questions.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: I'll leave it at that.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: Now back to Georgia.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: She does not have any friends.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Lucas has seen to that.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: The house is full of cameras, monitoring her every move.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: And her abusive husband has trapped her in the house.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: He has taken away her driver's license and all forms of her identity, saying who she is.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: She resorts to some terrible things before she breaks down and is forced to trust Cora and tells her everything.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: She is her last hope.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: This book is full of action and women wanting to help each other.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: At this point, Paige has done some amazing things which builds her confidence.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: In the midst of helping Cora, she is convinced that Finn killed her son.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: When she brings evidence to Cora, Cora is beside herself that she now wants to kill Finn herself.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: But through very unusual circumstances, she is now hiding out in Cora's house.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Paige wants to help her.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Georgia reminds the ladies that Lucas is a charming and very well-liked in the community and a powerful judge that can make people disappear.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: This only fuels the ladies more.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: With bits of evidence that turns up like breadcrumbs on a path, you can say, at every move unexpectedly.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: They piece together the real murderer of Caleb and a master plan to put Lucas behind bars forever.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: It is only the bond of trust between these three women that can secure their future of peace and happiness.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: A must-read for everyone.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna leave our readers at that because I feel like this is such a good book that the last the last chapter of the book spells everything out.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: I'm like, oh it was like black and white.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Come on, let's put it together.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: But yeah, all I can say is it has a very good ending.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Very, very, very good ending.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't think it was gonna end so good, but it does.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Anyways, I feel that, and correct me if I'm wrong, the moral of the story.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: Besties, trust your instinct.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: And there's no better friend than a real bestie.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Wendy, do you have any comments?
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, I I that was a really good recap.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Because I haven't read that book recently, so I needed it.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: You did that right really well.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: I would have liked to have heard the ending though, there.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: I I'm trying to entice people to read the book.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, I did leave out, I did leave out like, you know, some really good parts, but I'm like, in that case, why don't I just read the book to everybody?
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: Because I thought it was really I thought it was really funny how how Paige was supposed to be, you know, in real life, her dark alburn hair is sexy and beautiful, and how she just scales a garage and gets up in the window and jumps in and then busts windows and and puts bugs in people's briefcases so fast, and she is just amazing.
- 19:03SPEAKER_02: So this book has a lot of fast action going on with the women here, but it well, it is action-packed, which is great, but I love how this author can create so many colorful, distinct characters, you know.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: Without yes, and one of the things that we both talked about, I'm sorry, besties, but yesterday Wendy and I had our pre-Bestie conversation, and we both kind of agreed that we like books to stay on one timeline.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I get lost easy.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: I again I said that I'm not a fan of the alternating timeline, but so many books use it, and it's so important, it's so integral to so many storylines.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: But this book was just full of action.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: And I okay, Wendy, what part did you not like?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Tell me, tell me, tell me.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Okay, tell me.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: I did not like the husband's okay.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: It there wasn't an actual husband swap, but there was a part where Oh come on, you're putting words in this book.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Um well, I mean, Paige kind of went after Cora's husband a little bit, and Cora kind of went after Paige's husband.
- 20:09SPEAKER_02: That's how I felt about it.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: I I know nothing happened in either situation, but it it was okay, Paige, the Snoopy one.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: She she she had great sleuthing skills.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she was dead.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: She was trying to like tempt Cora's husband to get him to do something because she for her, like it wasn't she couldn't getting him on tape with a hooker just was not enough.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: You know, she had to have more.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: And I get that because of the prenup, she wanted to make sure that you know Cora got what she deserved.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: And, you know, if it wasn't for him cheating, then she probably would end up with nothing.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: And she was always, you know, such a good wife, and he was such a crap husband.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: There's a lot, you know, that's the thing.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of I was gonna say, but Paige even questioned Cora like, huh?
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: You don't think he was cheating when he's young, but you were smart enough to put this prenup in that if he's caught cheating, you get everything.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Because obviously, before they got married, he was cheating with her best friend.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, she she had to have known what type of person she was marrying, you know.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: I think she did, but I think she loved him more and she had rose-colored glasses on because the times they were together, you know, they were good times.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: It's just that as time went on, I've got meetings, I have meetings, and he wouldn't tell her exactly where, why, when, just come on, I gotta stay like, you know.
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Well, plus, in meanwhile, she's growing as a person, also.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: So she's getting tired of being treated like that.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: She's not a little kid just getting married to the love of her life anymore.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: She's somebody who wants a real love and a real life.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: And so and I think that when she played at the bar and everybody applauded, and Grant was like, Hey, that's fantastic.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: And and she kind of like put her Down and he just kind of ignored that.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: Whereas good old Finn would be like, Oh yeah, Cora.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: But uh Grant was such a kind person, and when everybody applauded, she's like, I haven't felt this appreciated, or I haven't felt this good in such a long time.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: That's why I think it's gonna make such a good mini-series, is because of all the different colorful characters and the, you know, I mean, just well, Paige for one.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: She was Paige actually was my one, I would say my favorite character.
- 22:37SPEAKER_02: Because she yes, I know we didn't discuss this, but at first, yeah, everybody just feels bad for her because her you know, her son died.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: Her son died, yeah.
- 22:45SPEAKER_02: That was her only child, and you know, and of course I felt bad for her too, but her ability to snoop was out of this world, and she really developed it well.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: I really loved that.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: Great skills, FBI or CIA can use her, and even though everybody thought, oh, she's crazy and she's a grieving mother, I always felt like that no, there's more to this hit and run.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: There's definitely more to this hit and run.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: And I was like with her in that regard, you know.
- 23:14SPEAKER_01: Because I think that a mother has to, well, not just a mother, but like people have to trust their gut feeling, their intuition.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And if there's something gnawing at you, don't give up because people say, Oh, it's nothing, or oh, it was just a hit and run, or oh, it's no big deal.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Follow your gut.
- 23:31SPEAKER_02: That's a good point, Kim, because a lot of these characters did not follow their guts in the beginning.
- 23:37SPEAKER_02: Even the neighbor with the that married the judge.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: No, the one that married the judge, Georgia.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Yes, Georgia was married to Lucas the judge.
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Georgia had some red flags before she got married.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: She was not even from this country.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: She met Lucas in an you know, from her.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: And she had a few red flags in the beginning.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: She ignored her gut in the beginning.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: She ignored her gut when they were first married, just like Cora ignored her gut when you know she knew her husband was a cheater.
- 24:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: And, you know, but here's the thing.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Paige did not ignore her gut instinct when she thought, no, this is not just a simple hit and run.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: There's more to this.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: And they didn't, you know, they didn't really, they just said, Oh, yeah, it's a hit and run, but she knew better.
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Her gut was telling her more, and it's true.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: It turned out, it turned out to be so much she didn't want to know and didn't want to learn.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: But even this character, okay, because they made her son Caleb out to be the perfect student, the perfect person, the perfect kindest heart out there.
- 24:43SPEAKER_02: And I'm not saying that he wasn't a good person, but she had to ignore some of the stuff when he was still alive because he was obviously doing some things that weren't all that good.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: He was the drug dealer of the neighborhood.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: But I mean talk about a spoiler alert.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: How could she not notice that?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: So she was ignoring some gut feelings, obviously, too.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't think they were gut feelings then.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: She was just she just had a blind eye on her son because her and her husband, they were running those restaurants.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: And in the beginning, I think she had three of them.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: So I don't think they were ever home.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: But then when her son died, they kind of sold the other two, and they were and Grant was just getting by with the one restaurant.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: He's having a good time.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: I do, I agree with that.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: But if you say that, then you have to say they're all really turning a blind eye, they're all ignoring you know, their gut instinct.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: So that brings up another thing.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: I think that everybody should once in a while do a self-reflection.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: You know, just do a self-reflection.
- 25:40SPEAKER_01: Gut check.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, there's a difference between a gut check and doing a self-reflection, I think, because she thought her son was murdered.
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: That was her gut instinct, and she was correct.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: And then there was Georgia who thought, huh, I'm gonna open up a separate bank account that he doesn't know about and throw a thousand dollars in there, right?
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: So that was her little gut check that she didn't follow up on.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: And Cora, the exact same thing.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: I'm putting a prenup in there, but she did.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: So those are little gut things.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: But but having a blind eye, you don't know what you don't know.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: And I don't think she had, I don't think she made time to really get to know her son.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, I see, I don't totally agree with that.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: I think she did know her son, but I do agree with the part that maybe she didn't know that he was dealing drugs because he was he he was just a very happy, very kind, very good kid until he got messed up with these other people and with the selling the drugs.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: But until then, I think she knew exactly who he was.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: And I I agree with you that she was they were very busy because they owned, I think it was at least three.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: It was at least three, if not more.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: It was getting to be a chain, they wanted to open even more, and they were so successful, but that takes a lot of time, especially a restaurant business.
- 26:59SPEAKER_02: So they were so busy.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: I do agree with that that yeah, she wasn't home to see all these signs, but the ending is so good, they tie every story together, it all relates, and you know why it all relates?
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Because the women band together.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: The men were jerks, except for Grant.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Well, he was not.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: I I have to say, yeah, they did they do have a lot of jerks in this for men wives, just the men, just the men, just the man, yeah, but except for her except for Grant, her husband, he had the patience of a saint, and he just waited for I think it was several years, wasn't it?
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: Remind me too.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: No, it was a year.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Was it a year?
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, but that's still a long time.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and I just love how Paige got so good at snooping and knowing absolutely everything that was going on in the neighborhood, and that was so helpful, especially when they discover that Georgia is being held prisoner by her husband.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know I know you didn't want to give away the ending, but that that was a huge, I mean, everybody just thought that she was strange, had health issues.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Like, because that's the story her husband was trying to tell to people.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that she didn't like like to leave the house.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: That she had agri- what is that agriphoria?
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: No, that's the spider one.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: No, yeah, yep, yep.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Agoraphoba, agoraphobia, agora, agora something.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Something like that.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, well, we're very sound this intelligent.
- 28:28SPEAKER_01: No, but the other thing is that man was grooming Georgia and grooming it.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: She looked back.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: Georgia was not even her name.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: He wanted to make sure that any distant relative relatives of hers couldn't even find her.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Her real name was Nicola.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: And he used to call her, oh, like a southern Georgia belle.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: We'll and start calling her Georgia or Georgia Peach.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: He even groomed her for, yeah, you're right, for a different name.
- 28:55SPEAKER_02: And I was shocked when I found out that wasn't her name.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: I'm like, what?
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's a judge.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: So that just goes to show it doesn't matter if how prominent you are, how much money you have, anything.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, anybody can be a whack job.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: If you're bad, you're bad.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: And if you're that's right, bad to the bone.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I did I did find this to be a good book.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: I just didn't, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a book that we could do on the podcast or do it justice.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: I think.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: I think that I think that if I really tried to explain more, it would have been too deep in the weed weeds.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: So that's why I didn't give away the very, very ending of it.
- 29:35SPEAKER_01: Because right before it ended, I was like, well, this really sucks.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: I don't really like this.
- 29:39SPEAKER_01: But then it all turned out really good, really good.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: So I'm very happy with that.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think I think this was a good one to do for the podcast.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I hope it inspires people to read the book because it was a really good book.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Or inspires them to watch the mini-series at the very least.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, I can't wait to see all these characters and how she how they develop them.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, the only thing that if I had to criticize the book, the only thing that I would say is being a very uh a super sleuth myself, you can kind of say, or distinguished book person, since we're doing books, right?
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: There's a few parts in it where Lucas breaks Georgia Nicholas' ribs.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: And then the very next day she has to come out of the basement and she's trying to bend over and pick up the baby, she's having a hard time with that, but yet the very next day she's you know running to escape.
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, wait a minute, her ribs have to mend a little.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And then plus, with all the bruises on her neck and stuff, you think I don't know.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: So I think that the author could have made that just a little bit more realistic.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: True, and maybe the miniseries will do it more justice, but I think the author did so well with oh yeah, coordinating Cora and Paige and their friendship and how they rescued Georgia, how they banded together, um, how they figured it out.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: I really like that part and you know how they didn't just look the other way or you know, to be honest, it's not my my you know, they could have said, Oh, it's not my problem.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: It's not my business, yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: I first, when I first started to read this, I thought, oh my gosh, this is about these busy bodies in the backyard.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Mrs.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Kravitz.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Mrs.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Kravitz.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: And when she was trying to bring over her famous, she called it a brown something else, but it was an apple, uh, apple crumble.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: And then she was trying to bug Finn, her husband, like, huh, did you talk to them?
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Did you see them?
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Did he say anything?
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: And he's like, crying out loud, Cora, mind your own business.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: And she goes, Well, I just want to help.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: They have a baby and I could babysit.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: And I mean, she had a kind heart the whole time, but I was at first.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: And then when she goes over in the evenings to sit with Paige and brings a glass of wine in the evening, and the dog comes over and sits with them, Christopher, and they have their glass of wine, and she blurts out, Paige, I think Finn is having an affair.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: And after she tells her all the stuff that she kind of caught Finn with, I mean, I knew Finn was guilty.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: Paige knew Finn was guilty.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: We all did.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: I agree with you in the beginning, though.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: I agree with that part where in the beginning I was like, Oh, how's this gonna be?
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: They're just a bunch of busybodies, you know.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah but she but the author did a really I think the author did well though with the character development.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: That's why I mentioned that before, because she develops these characters into where they're not just busybodies and nosy people, they're actually women who care and have a lot to bring this to the table, a lot that you know, some of the husbands don't recognize, you know, how wonderful and they don't see the strength.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: How valuable they are.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: Except for Grant.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: Yes, he was the best husband ever.
- 32:52SPEAKER_02: He was he is the best husband, yeah.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: He was, and also he was a very good character too.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: So I can't wait to see who they cast as these people.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: I hope they get some really good people.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hey, I'm just saying I'm available.
- 33:06SPEAKER_01: I'm available.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: I'm just putting it out there.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: And which one, which one do you think that you would oh, I know it.
- 33:11SPEAKER_02: I know which one you're uh which one, which one?
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: You're gonna pick Paige because you like to be the super sleuth.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I do.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: And mentally I'm right with her, but let me tell you, I went to the gym.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: Because you want to be married to Grant.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: But who would want to be married to Finn?
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, he was such an idiot the whole book through.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know, I know.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: He was such an idiot.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: I loved it at the end when uh they kind of have to tell Finn, this is what you're gonna say, right?
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: And without being obvious, because they've already got Finn in jail for the murder of Caleb, but he didn't do it.
- 33:48SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, I love that part.
- 33:50SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: They're like, and especially the wife, it's only gonna be he'll only be in jail for a couple days.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: It's okay, you know.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: No, no, I mean she knew eventually he'd get out because they knew who really did it.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it's it was funny.
- 34:03SPEAKER_02: It's like she had no, she knew by this point that it was not her just her imagination, and she should have gone with her gut.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: And he had been cheating on her the whole time, probably from the very beginning.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: And and he didn't treat and the thing is he didn't even treat her nice.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, she was she was an abused wife, too, if you ask me.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: I mean, he didn't care about her opinion, he didn't care, he cared nothing except for that she behaved like the perfect wife and made sure the house was clean and dinner was on the table when she got home and everything was taken care of.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: That's all he wanted.
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep, yep.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: And he still wanted his time with the boys and he still wore his college, his college shirt or something, which made Paige believe that he was the killer, you know, it's more evidence that kept him piling up on him.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: I tell you, don't get your girlfriends mad at you, guys.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Be careful.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, but the the really heartwarming thing of all of it is the ending because you really grow to love these characters, so you know, and I really grew to love Paige.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: I was saying that I I think Paige was probably one of my favorite characters, and she's the one who lost her son, and in the end, she gained a lot.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: She did.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Do you want me to say it or do you want us to just no?
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Just let it go.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: Let it go.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Let our readers say, Oh my god, that was a wonderful book.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I read it and I know what happened.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, you don't know everything right now, let's put it that way.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: But it was very heartwarming ending, so yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: I'm very happy I read that book.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: And I gotta say, guess who picked the book?
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: It was Wendy.
- 35:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I was really doubting myself too in the beginning.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: I was like, I'm just gonna read this through and we're gonna pick another book.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: But then Kim is the one who insisted that we do this book, so that was you who decided, no, no, we're gonna we're gonna keep with this book that you picked.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: And because I thought we would be really at odds.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And I thought, oh, well, I can I can take my characters and line them up against your characters, and we'll see which one's better.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: You know, because you said you didn't really want to read this book when you started to read it.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: You're like, I didn't, I didn't when I first started, but it was the reason you were saying is because I didn't care about the busybodies, but then the character, yeah, but then the author directed.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: You know, the development of these characters is what sparked my interest.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And it it's just funny how these lives can intermingle, you know.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: You don't think you think you're in a neighborhood, you think you know your neighbors, but sometimes you don't.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: And sometimes you should go over there and introduce yourself and say hi.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: You don't know if somebody's living like well, we did have a difference of opinion about the book though, because I still did not like when Paige hit on Cora's husband, and I felt like Cora was hitting on Paige's husband.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I don't feel Cora.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: No, because all she did was think about it, think about it, and then she goes, Oh, I feel so guilty, you know, he's my best friend's husband.
- 37:05SPEAKER_01: Nothing ever happened between them.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Well, I I would love to get the reader's opinion or the listener's opinion on that one, though.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, but I I do agree with you though, these were these were good friends in the end.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: They helped each other out.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: No boundaries were called were crossed at all.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: And it was just a really, really good mystery psychological thriller to the very end.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: So with a really sweet ending.
- 37:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: That's that was the most amazing thing, is how she was able to twist that into there.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: So I didn't see it coming at all.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: I did not see it coming at all.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: So I would you read another book by this author because she has quite a few out there.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: I would too.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: I would.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: I would too.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: So I think I'm gonna put some of these on my TBR list from this author.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: And I can't wait till we maybe, maybe when the mini-series comes out, if it's good and we really like it, we'll do we'll do our own little mini series of podcasts on the mini-series.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: I think that would be I think that would be fun.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Is did do you remember is it coming out in 2027?
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: Because it's just starting now, so I think probably 2027 at the end.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: At least, yeah, earliest.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: But there's so many.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: Hey, uh in two weeks, we're gonna go see Verity, and they heard it first from us.
- 38:26SPEAKER_02: Looks in box office besties.
- 38:28SPEAKER_02: Now, by the time you guys all hear this, we will have seen it already.
- 38:32SPEAKER_02: So because these are in the future, obviously, but I cannot wait.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: I can't Kim will be in town for a whole week, and we're gonna be going to see Verity.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: We're going to the it's called the Jury Experience.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to go see that with tell everybody what that's about.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: That'll be fun.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: We know a little bit about it, but we'll let you know after we go.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: And I think it's gonna be a really good time.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: So I'm looking forward to all the books that we have coming, and I'm looking forward to some more movies.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: We actually have a movie coming out next.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Obsession will be our next podcast.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: And if you haven't watched the movie, here's your spoiler to give it a watch now before you listen to the podcast, unless you want to just hear all the spoilers and about the movie on the podcast.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: That's up to you.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: So I gotta say one thing though with obsession, because I still really, really, really love that movie.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: It's a movie that to really appreciate it, you are gonna have to talk about it.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: You're gonna have to see it, you're gonna have to talk about it and see it again.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: Because two people can go see that movie and see kind of some different things in it.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh yeah, I missed that.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, I missed this.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Anyways, we got to.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Kim went with her husband Tony on the same day in Texas that I went with my husband Mark in Ohio, and we both came back with totally different views on the movie.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: I was jumping up and down.
- 40:00SPEAKER_02: Whoa, isn't this?
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: I'm like, you're like, what?
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: That wasn't that wasn't for us, that wasn't for us.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: But then we started discussing the movie, and it was like, whoa, this is a good topic of discussion.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: And then Kim started telling me about how much of a budget it had, and after I found out the tiny little budget, I'm like, no, I can really appreciate that.
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and there wasn't any, and there wasn't any money really spent on flash and bling.
- 40:25SPEAKER_01: It was all smoke and mirrors, right?
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: But it was it was good.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: It was kind of like but it worked, it worked really good because it made it really plausible.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: Like, hey, I can see some college kids having that exact same conversation.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I can see this, I can see that, you know.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it wasn't like, oh, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna demolish a whole town here and it's gonna go up in smoke.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: No, no, no.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: And if I'm not mistaken, I think we discussed the the end of Oak Street with Ann Hathaway on that same podcast.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: So we did a tiny little recap of that one and discussed that for a little bit.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I and you know, it's funny because I think we had a little bit different opinions on that.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: Oh we did.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: So tune in for that.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: Tune in for that.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, do did do we have time to talk just for like two minutes about drama?
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, sure.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we have to while I was on the plane, before I got on the plane, I should say, the real super sleuth between us is Wendy.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: Before I got on the plane, she already saw the movie Drama, and she was telling me that I should see it.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Oh, I don't know, I don't see it playing.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: She's like, What's your flight number?
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: And then she calls me back, Kim, it is on that flight.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: You can see it on Luftanza.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: Well, when you're in especially when you're taking like an eight, nine-hour flight, you want books and movies to watch, right?
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Books to read and movies to watch.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: So Super Sleuth Wend gave me all the details.
- 41:49SPEAKER_01: I'm like, man, sure enough, I got on a plane.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I'm like, ooh, damn, there it is.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: Gotta watch it.
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: Here's the thing, though.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying that drama was necessarily a good movie, but it really sparks an interesting topic.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: I think that we both agreed that the movie wasn't good.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: Right?
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: It wasn't, but it's not that the topic wasn't good.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: The topic is a first time I've ever seen anything or heard anything like this in the movie.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: So I think it was whenever it's a one-of-a-kind or the first one to come out, I think that's really good.
- 42:18SPEAKER_01: I think the actors were excellent, but the director, I they could have done so much more with this movie.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: So much more.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: And I just think it fell flat.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 42:28SPEAKER_02: I think that they could have done way better, especially with this topic.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: It's such a sensitive topic.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: Do you want to tell them what the topic is, Wend?
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: Well, it was okay.
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: Well, basically, it it's a it's not about a school shooting, but it the topic revolves around school shootings.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: So it's a very sensitive topic.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: And should we do a little recap of this or are we gonna do this?
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: Sure, go ahead.
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: No, this this is just a two-minute recap.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: Okay, nothing.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: The movie fell flat.
- 43:01SPEAKER_01: Like there's not much to it.
- 43:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, basically, this couple's getting married and they're out with their really good friends.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: And I think they were his friends.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: Maid of honor and best friends.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but they were mostly his friends, I believe.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 43:15SPEAKER_02: And the maid of honor brought up something, and I believe it was something that her husband did, and she was like, Hey, he, or he was like, Hey, you said you'd never tell anybody that.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: And she's like, Oh, what's the big deal?
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: Here, I'm gonna tell tell like one of the things.
- 43:29SPEAKER_02: The worst thing I've ever done.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: Yes, the worst thing I've ever done.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: And she goes and tells what hers was, and then they want to hear the other couple that's getting married.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: What were their names, Kim?
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: I know Robert Pattison played the guy.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: I just don't remember what their names were, but whatever.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: They want to know.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they they want to know what the worst thing these other two did.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: They're like, Oh, what could what possibly could they have done?
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: What could be so bad?
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: And so Robert Pattison tells his, and then it's so memorable I don't remember it.
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Zidane.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Oh the right, that's oh, that's right.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: That's who played this.
- 44:04SPEAKER_02: The woman he's marrying.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: She said that when she was, was she 16, Kim, I believe.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: I think she was younger than that, much younger than it might have been 14, 14, 13, 14, yeah.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: 14.
- 44:16SPEAKER_02: That she was bullied a lot, and that uh she was picked on all the time and she was miserable.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: And it was after the Columbine shootings, I believe.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Wendy, get to the point.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: You're killing me.
- 44:30SPEAKER_02: But this is part of the point because okay, go ahead.
- 44:33SPEAKER_02: She wanted to do a mass shooting.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, talk about spoiling it, Kim.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Well, you're killing it, Wendy.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: Well, okay.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: So her the worst thing was she planned a mass shooting and she actually brought a gun to school.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: And that's why I'm saying this is such a sensitive topic.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: If so, if I remember correctly, she was gonna do the shooting, but like an hour or two before that she was gonna execute this, there was a shooting at another school.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: And when she saw how devastated the people were and how the kids were crying that, you know, and saw all that went on, she decided she wasn't gonna do her shooting at her school.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: And instead, she became, as she grew up, she became an advocate against violence and school.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Gun control, gun control, right?
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: She's a big advocate of that.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: So her bridesmaid is like, how could you even thought of doing something like that?
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: And this is actually before she told her that she was bullied, she just came out and said, Well, I plan to do a school shooting.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: And they're like, What?
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: You're nuts, you're crazy, blah, blah, blah.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they thought she was making it up, but she wasn't.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: And so nobody ever really got over that.
- 45:47SPEAKER_01: And I don't think they were listening to her.
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: And nobody really wanted to sit down and talk to her about it because they were just too much like, How could you even think of that?
- 45:57SPEAKER_01: How can you even do that?
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, can I trust you now?
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Do you still have those tendencies?
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: You know, did you ever think you want to kill anybody now?
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: And it was just crazy.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: It was, and then it changed everything.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: The person that she was going to marry did say, No, I'll I still want to marry you, but I don't think he did, to be honest.
- 46:15SPEAKER_02: And then he couldn't go through with his his speech.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: The speech.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was planning the speech saying how kind and hearted she was, and that he was she was the best person he knew.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: And he started reading it.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: He's like, I can't say this stuff because he didn't believe it anymore.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Well, he didn't believe it anymore.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a good one.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: I and I agree, the movie could have been done so much better, but it was such a sensitive topic.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: I almost feel like we should have given a disclaimer before we started with the topic because it is it's a sensitive topic.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: But she turned out to be some good, good person, and again, that would be character development, right?
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: And they didn't look at the whole picture, all they looked at is an instant in time.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: And I'm not the same person I was 20 years ago.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: You know, people change for the better or for the worse, you know, but people just change, and they didn't give her credit on how much she changed.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Or, you know, who she was back then wasn't necessarily a bad person either.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: She was somebody crying out for help.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:13SPEAKER_02: So it just sparked so many conversations, and it can spark so many conversations on so many different topics like bullying and how things are treated in school, and how change needs to come about and how that change should come about.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: It was just it was very interesting to think about you can't hold something against somebody that they didn't do.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: That's just wrong.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: That that's another, you know, another good little topic there.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: And then the other thing, and then the other thing, to be honest, is Wendy and I were talking, and we're like, Well, what if your child came home and said, Hey, I'm getting married, you know, and oh, that's wonderful.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: And then your child said, Do you know what so and so told me and told you that?
- 48:01SPEAKER_01: And it's like, you know, and that would give you pause to think, like, well, I hope that person has changed.
- 48:10SPEAKER_01: I hope that person maybe, you know, did that person go get help?
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: Did that person or how young was that person?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Do you really know?
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: I think when, for example, I think she was really young when that other shooting took place, and when she saw all the kids crying, and she saw how devastating it was, like she didn't have any any preconception of or she didn't know how things were gonna feel afterwards.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: She was just a kid, you know?
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she was just a kid who was being bullied at bullied and didn't know what to do, and she didn't fit in at the the end of her rope, and yeah, nobody was seeing it, nobody was hearing her cries.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: So I mean it there's it's just sparked so many different conversations and debates and things, it or it could among people.
- 49:01SPEAKER_01: It could, but it's very it didn't show it in the best light, exactly.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: But I mean this movie could spark those conversations, even though it wasn't it's not like I'd go and recommend this movie.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: No, no, because it didn't do anything for me.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: It was like, oh my gosh, this was really depressing, and it just was not I can't even say it had a good ending, it was nothing.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was on Netflix.
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: If anybody, any of you want to give it a watch, but I can't.
- 49:31SPEAKER_02: Or if you're flying overseas, it's on Leaf Panza.
- 49:35SPEAKER_01: How many popcorns would you give it, Wendy?
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: That movie?
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Are we talking about let's just do drama real quick here?
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: I would say probably about two.
- 49:47SPEAKER_01: I'd give it one and it's stale.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Because I think because it's two without butter.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: Well, what good is popcorn without one and stale, you know?
- 49:54SPEAKER_01: We know what that means.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: So how many popcorns would you give the book that I recapped on a quiet screen?
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: I would give it, and I was thinking about this.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: I would give it four.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: Four out of four?
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Four out of five.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: Four out of five.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Four with butter on top, though, or possibly even butter all through it.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: You know, I would have to agree with you.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: I would have to break it down like a Rubik's Cube, but I would have to agree with you only because when you break your ribs, you cannot pick up a baby and run.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: Well, I think it was a really great read, and I would recommend it, but I wouldn't say that it was the best book of my life.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: I can't give every book a five.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: And we have done some real five books on here, you have to admit.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: So it's it's not that I thought I wasted my time reading it.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: No, it was very enjoyable, you know.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: And if if you reading is what you love, then you're you're not wasting it.
- 50:49SPEAKER_02: You're in good company.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: You're in good company, exactly.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: And it's not a and it's not a waste of time.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: And their time is too short to waste any time on, you know, I know reading something.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: There's nothing worse when you read a bad book and it's like that's taken eight hours of my life.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: I know, I'll never get that back.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 51:05SPEAKER_02: I can't believe it ended like that.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:07SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: But that's why we're here to help you with that.
- 51:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, yes.
- 51:12SPEAKER_02: And you guys can help us with that.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: We would love to hear what you're reading.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: I I need some I need to read some something light because I've been reading some really heavy books lately.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: And I would love romantic comedy.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: If anybody has any uh suggestions for me, I'd love to hear it.
- 51:30SPEAKER_02: But I think it's uh getting time for us to wind down.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Do you have anything else, Kim, that you would like to tell us share with our besties?
- 51:37SPEAKER_01: Um, no, I think we covered everything.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna follow up with that podcast that you recommended.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, the wind of change.
- 51:46SPEAKER_02: And to be totally honest, I still have two more to listen to, and I'm going to, I'm going to finish it because it was actually very intriguing, very interesting.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: I'm interested in that too.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: So I'll let you know what I think.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: I'll give you feedback on your podcast that you recommended.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 52:02SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to hear it.
- 52:03SPEAKER_02: So, with that said, I think we're gonna say goodbye and thank you so much for being with us.
- 52:09SPEAKER_02: Thank you for listening.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Okay, if you like, if you like it, please give us our rate and a review or a share.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: Tell a friend.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, tell a friend.
- 52:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let me get this intro on that.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: I hope she picks the right one this time, Pete.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Well, I'll try.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: I'll try.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: Okay, so bye everybody.
- 52:29SPEAKER_02: Bye.
- 52:33unknown: All right.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Can we start at the 32 second point?
