- 0:45Speaker 1: Toyota, Let's go eat some lobster. Ah.
- 0:50Speaker 2: I bet you're wondering what's going on here. We're gonna
- 0:53Speaker 2: get to that in a minute. It's Jack Webb joining us,
- 0:56Speaker 2: the new host of our Patriots pre and postgame show.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Joining us for joint practice, Paul Parola, myself, Mike Dusseau,
- 1:03Speaker 2: Evan Lazar. We'll be here for most of the joint
- 1:06Speaker 2: practice today that we're allowed.
- 1:08Speaker 5: To be well, we'll be here for the whole thing.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Won't be broadcasting for about that. Yeah, so it was
- 1:13Speaker 5: a good day yesterday.
- 1:14Speaker 2: But before we get into the football, we got to
- 1:16Speaker 2: talk seafood because the Patriots are excited to welcome in
- 1:20Speaker 2: Legal Seafood this year as their official seafood restaurant and
- 1:26Speaker 2: the official clam showder of the New England Patriots. So
- 1:29Speaker 2: you know, when we have sponsors, it makes it really easy.
- 1:33Speaker 1: To promote them when you love what they do.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And I've been loving Legal Seafood my whole life. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: they have locations throughout New England, Virginia, New Jersey, Chicago,
- 1:44Speaker 2: and if you're looking for seafood, Legal Seafood is the
- 1:48Speaker 2: place to go. If you're traveling to New England, you
- 1:52Speaker 2: got to stop at Legal Seafood. But the Patriots are excited.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You have two iconic brands, New England brands. You got
- 1:57Speaker 2: the New England Patriots and Legal Seafood joining up.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I thought it was Fred Kersh and Legal. Yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So so if you're at the Games this year, you'll
- 2:06Speaker 2: be able to get Legal Seafood in select places on the.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Concrete's that's amazing.
- 2:11Speaker 5: I was just telling our chef here as he was
- 2:13Speaker 5: preparing this for us that you know, tradition for me
- 2:15Speaker 5: when I live in California, I'll come back to a
- 2:17Speaker 5: game and then I would stop illegal seafood at the
- 2:19Speaker 5: brain Tree split. That was kind of my Cyonara to Boston. So,
- 2:22Speaker 5: like you said, Fred, sometimes things just work well and
- 2:26Speaker 5: this is the perfect, perfect partnership.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And I got a claw.
- 2:29Speaker 6: It's a little Michael Jackson tribute combs up.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So but you said, Fred too, the chowder, I mean,
- 2:37Speaker 1: the chowder is is.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Oh well, I've been saying it for years because for
- 2:40Speaker 2: a long time the Patriots press box has been serving
- 2:43Speaker 2: clam chowder to the press during games.
- 2:45Speaker 1: He said, oh, it's legal seafood. Clam shout. I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 2:48Speaker 1: that's not legal seafood.
- 2:49Speaker 6: And you too, I have to vouch your friend. He
- 2:51Speaker 6: has done this for years.
- 2:53Speaker 2: This year, if you're in the press box, members of
- 2:57Speaker 2: the media, that is legal seafood, and you'll taste the difference.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Well, you can see too that you got the crackers
- 3:03Speaker 5: with right burning right on it. That's what I saw, Fred,
- 3:05Speaker 5: when you were saying, You're like, they had the real stuff,
- 3:07Speaker 5: and they had the crackers so delicious.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Love it, so can we. So this was twice as
- 3:13Speaker 2: long before Jack Web got to that's why we brought
- 3:16Speaker 2: Jackiet today.
- 3:17Speaker 5: We're like, we need some reinforcements on the giant lobster
- 3:20Speaker 5: role we're about to consume.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I think that's why Fred said, hey, I think Thursday's
- 3:23Speaker 4: a good day for you to come down, right. They
- 3:25Speaker 4: had to call on the big boy for me, and
- 3:27Speaker 4: I promise I will be the clean up crew.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And if we need to, if we have any leftovers,
- 3:31Speaker 2: we'll just have Zoe come down and he'll polish every Yeah.
- 3:33Speaker 5: I'm surprised he's not here already because we can see
- 3:35Speaker 5: right through up there.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Him and Beatle gonna come, yeah, come down here, try
- 3:38Speaker 1: to get all this. They don't strut till ten, so
- 3:40Speaker 1: he gets here at ten oh.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Five, right right, pregame meals ready for you guys, when
- 3:43Speaker 5: you're ready.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Yeah, So thank you Legal Seafood Again. The Patriots are
- 3:46Speaker 2: really excited to partner up the official seafood restaurant of
- 3:50Speaker 2: the New England Patriots and the official clam chowder if
- 3:54Speaker 2: they're making no mistake, the official clam chowder of the
- 3:57Speaker 2: New England Patriots.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So welcome aboard, Legal, We'll come aboard. Permission to dive
- 4:01Speaker 1: in front.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Absolutely, we should stagger it so we could do a
- 4:05Speaker 5: little analysis while one of us stuff our face.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Let's get one bye.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Everybody knows the rules, all right, so let's get let's
- 4:15Speaker 2: get down to football. Because yesterday was day one of
- 4:20Speaker 2: the joint practices with the Eagles, and personally, I thought
- 4:24Speaker 2: it was a continuation offensively of what we saw on
- 4:29Speaker 2: Monday for Drake May and the offense.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Defensively, I think the Eagles might have had a little
- 4:34Speaker 1: bit of an edge.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's okay, you know, that's what that's what
- 4:39Speaker 2: you're here for.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think you know, we all stood
- 4:42Speaker 5: up here and watched the rest of practice, and we
- 4:43Speaker 5: came away with that, you know, takeaway.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Good day for the offense for sure.
- 4:47Speaker 5: You know, culminated in the last two minute drill where
- 4:49Speaker 5: both sides of the ball, you know, performed pretty well.
- 4:52Speaker 5: But when you look at the defense that you know,
- 4:54Speaker 5: I don't know a lot of the other outlets I
- 4:56Speaker 5: think had one guy focused on an offense, one guy
- 4:58Speaker 5: focused on a defense. Once you heard from the people
- 5:00Speaker 5: watching the defense, I think we all came back with
- 5:02Speaker 5: a similar take that the Eagles.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Had a good day on the run yesterday. There was
- 5:05Speaker 1: a lot of space.
- 5:06Speaker 5: I thought they made some big plays down the field too,
- 5:08Speaker 5: a couple of screens that you know, found a seam
- 5:11Speaker 5: and it looked like, you know, nobody's getting a hand
- 5:12Speaker 5: on that running back.
- 5:14Speaker 1: So I think they need to be a little better today.
- 5:16Speaker 5: On the defensive side of the ball with those two
- 5:18Speaker 5: things stopping the run as well as you know, preventing
- 5:21Speaker 5: some of.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Those big plays that were clearly wide open.
- 5:24Speaker 5: And you know, the other part of it too, for me,
- 5:26Speaker 5: is just I think the Eagles are gonna.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Come with something to prove.
- 5:28Speaker 5: Yesterday there were a lot of narratives yesterday that the
- 5:30Speaker 5: Patriots quote unquote one practice and you know, depending on
- 5:34Speaker 5: who you read, that could have been they dominated it
- 5:36Speaker 5: to they had the slight edge or whatever it might be.
- 5:39Speaker 5: So I think it's not just about fixing what they
- 5:42Speaker 5: didn't do well yesterday. It's about bringing the same energy,
- 5:45Speaker 5: especially against that pass rush again, because I think the
- 5:47Speaker 5: Eagles are coming down here today with something, a little
- 5:49Speaker 5: bit something to prove.
- 5:49Speaker 6: I like the last part of what you said the most, Mike.
- 5:52Speaker 6: You know, it's about what Mike Rabele talked about before
- 5:54Speaker 6: the practice and then proving that you can do it.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Day in and day out. How do you respond when
- 5:58Speaker 6: something goes bad? You know, how do you how do
- 6:00Speaker 6: you react to that kind of stuff? So I would
- 6:02Speaker 6: say the Patriots were the better team in the practice yesterday. Overall,
- 6:06Speaker 6: you can put everything you know, accumulate everything that happened.
- 6:09Speaker 6: I would say the Patriots offense was better than the
- 6:12Speaker 6: Eagles offense. I thought the Eagles offense was better than
- 6:14Speaker 6: the Patriots defense, but I thought there was a wider
- 6:16Speaker 6: gap between the Patriots offense in the Eagles defense, I
- 6:19Speaker 6: would agree, and I was very impressed, specifically with the
- 6:23Speaker 6: pass protection. I thought that's where it all began for
- 6:25Speaker 6: the Patriots. I thought that allowed Drake Made to get
- 6:27Speaker 6: comfortable sort of surveying the field, looking downfield and finding
- 6:31Speaker 6: some big place to Aj Brown and Romeo Dobs. I
- 6:34Speaker 6: thought that was everything you wanted to see. But I
- 6:37Speaker 6: agree with Mike, I want to see better run fits
- 6:40Speaker 6: up front. I want to see the edges, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 6: sewn up a little bit. This is now a couple
- 6:46Speaker 6: of weeks of training camp where the other team has
- 6:48Speaker 6: been able to run the ball with some effectiveness. And
- 6:51Speaker 6: I also don't think the Patriots ran the ball all
- 6:53Speaker 6: that well. Offensively yesterday, So in a little clunky in
- 6:56Speaker 6: the two minutes.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You know, aj Brown got headlines.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Obviously, people had all eyes on him former Eagle and
- 7:03Speaker 2: and you know, even I think somebody from the Eagle
- 7:05Speaker 2: City looks better now than he did when he.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Was with US. Mitchell, thanks for reading my blogs.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And the second thing is I agree with Paul the
- 7:14Speaker 2: thought that I had watching our defenses, where is the
- 7:18Speaker 2: pressure going to come from this year? Because I didn't
- 7:21Speaker 2: really see that person and I heard on one of
- 7:24Speaker 2: Paul's shows yesterday them talking about you know, is are
- 7:27Speaker 2: the Patriots a stacked team in terms of talent? I
- 7:31Speaker 2: don't think so on defense yet, And I think they're
- 7:34Speaker 2: that piece away. They're that elite rusher away from being
- 7:37Speaker 2: considered stacked on defense. You know, they've got Christian Gonzales,
- 7:42Speaker 2: they've got Milton Williams and Christian Barmore in the middle,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but they're an elite rusher away from being called stacked.
- 7:50Speaker 2: And you do have to wonder where is the pressure
- 7:53Speaker 2: going to come from? You lost Chase on I think.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It's gonna come from blitzing. And that's how we saw
- 7:59Speaker 3: the schemes. Yeah, that was when we saw at the
- 8:02Speaker 3: end of practice, and that was my takeaways. I thought
- 8:05Speaker 3: the offensive lines on both sides kind of controlled the
- 8:07Speaker 3: practice for the most part yesterday, and I was really
- 8:10Speaker 3: encouraged that the Patriots offensive line was able to block
- 8:13Speaker 3: up the Eagles defensive front, and especially on the inside
- 8:16Speaker 3: with Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. I didn't really think
- 8:18Speaker 3: that those two guys impacted the practice all that much.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So that is a real big step in the right direction,
- 8:25Speaker 3: especially what we saw two years ago when that matchup
- 8:28Speaker 3: played out on the other side, though I agree with Deuce.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I thought they ran the ball effectively in the run periods,
- 8:33Speaker 3: and unless the Patriots dialed something up to get home
- 8:37Speaker 3: on a blitz, I didn't think that there was a
- 8:38Speaker 3: ton of pressure on the quarterback.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So Jack, have you done eating? No, not yet. I'm
- 8:42Speaker 1: just taking my time between bites.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I know you weren't here yesterday, but what are
- 8:46Speaker 2: you gonna be watching for today?
- 8:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna be watching the offensive line.
- 8:49Speaker 4: And I think that that's what made me so encouraged
- 8:52Speaker 4: about listening to you guys on the camp cast yesterday
- 8:54Speaker 4: and hearing how the offensive line held up, Because we
- 8:56Speaker 4: just talked about the lack of pass rush for the Patriots.
- 8:58Speaker 4: So when you hear the reports you know, across camp,
- 9:01Speaker 4: especially at the beginning, right when they put the pads on,
- 9:03Speaker 4: and it's just you know, best on best within the organization. Okay,
- 9:07Speaker 4: you take those with a grain of salt, right, because
- 9:08Speaker 4: you recognize that's a weakness of this team, is the
- 9:11Speaker 4: pass rush. And you hear they perform against a team
- 9:13Speaker 4: like the Eagles, in a front like the Eagles yesterday,
- 9:15Speaker 4: and that's certainly encouraging.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I mean I'm not surprised that you'll be
- 9:19Speaker 1: watching the offensive line. That's an area that I think
- 9:25Speaker 1: had a good day yesterday.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's to me what these practices have
- 9:30Speaker 3: all been about. Because of how good the Eagles are
- 9:33Speaker 3: in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I mean,
- 9:35Speaker 3: you're talking about probably the best tackle tandem in the
- 9:38Speaker 3: league on both sides of the ball, you know, Jordan Mylota,
- 9:40Speaker 3: Lane Johnson, Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis. Like, it doesn't really
- 9:43Speaker 3: get much better than that. And the Patriots' ability to
- 9:47Speaker 3: at least have a stalemate on the line of scrimmage
- 9:49Speaker 3: I thought was important these two days and I think
- 9:52Speaker 3: that they did that for the most part yesterday.
- 9:55Speaker 7: We'll see if that continues.
- 9:56Speaker 3: You know, Will Campbell had a couple of problems with
- 9:59Speaker 3: jaylex on their pass rusher on the edge. That was
- 10:02Speaker 3: the first time that I think I've said that all
- 10:04Speaker 3: camp that Will Campbell had some struggles. So I'd like
- 10:07Speaker 3: to see a better version of him today as well.
- 10:10Speaker 3: But overall, I think that as much as you want
- 10:13Speaker 3: to get into aj Brown and Saquon Barkley and all
- 10:16Speaker 3: the skill players, it's really the meata of this practice
- 10:20Speaker 3: is the trenches and those guys.
- 10:21Speaker 7: I think the Patriots did a good job.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Robert Splaine there, you just saw Matt Collins and Tommy
- 10:26Speaker 2: DeVito walking onto the field. You can never miss Matt
- 10:29Speaker 2: Collins because he's got the red tattered shirt underneath.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Fred.
- 10:33Speaker 4: To give you another angle here, I'm really interested to
- 10:35Speaker 4: see this Patriots secondary with no Gonzales. You saw a
- 10:38Speaker 4: ton of reports about turnovers yesterday. Sorry excuse me, lobster
- 10:43Speaker 4: in the throat a couple turnovers yesterday, right for that
- 10:46Speaker 4: Patriots defense, I'm eager to see what you guys see
- 10:48Speaker 4: from that defense. And were those turnovers and seven on seven,
- 10:51Speaker 4: were they eleven on eleven, I.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Just saw mostly seven on seven or the backup cornerbacks,
- 10:55Speaker 3: and that was like maybe a little bit of a
- 10:57Speaker 3: pushback that I had about some of that is like
- 10:59Speaker 3: I don't really care if Jalen Hurst throws picks and
- 11:02Speaker 3: seven on seven, like do that on your own time.
- 11:04Speaker 3: But the the eleven out eleven's, you know, interception one
- 11:07Speaker 3: was kendallvilldor on, the their second uh Andy Dalton, and
- 11:10Speaker 3: then the other one was John Saunders on I think
- 11:13Speaker 3: their four string quarterback. Yeah yeah, so I so Joe
- 11:18Speaker 3: Alerts picks were all in seven's. But I I just
- 11:23Speaker 3: I feel like with this, you know, with the Eagles,
- 11:26Speaker 3: I I keep just coming back to their offense installing
- 11:29Speaker 3: this new offense, and the blitzing that the Patriots did
- 11:32Speaker 3: did was effective at the end of practice. But if
- 11:34Speaker 3: you're going to play that style of defense, you need
- 11:37Speaker 3: Christian Gonzales like that. That is something that you absolutely
- 11:40Speaker 3: need is guys on the outside that can shut down
- 11:43Speaker 3: receivers in single coverage without a lot of help and
- 11:46Speaker 3: from the middle of the field because those guys are
- 11:48Speaker 3: going to be in the pass rush and and if
- 11:50Speaker 3: that's how you're gonna play like they did down the
- 11:52Speaker 3: stretch last season and in the playoffs. Then you need
- 11:55Speaker 3: to be able to cover. And if Christian Goanzalez isn't
- 11:58Speaker 3: a part of that, or him at the pa of
- 12:00Speaker 3: his powers isn't a part of that, then that's a
- 12:02Speaker 3: tough way to play defensively, to be like a forty
- 12:05Speaker 3: percent blitz rate kind of team without a shutdown corner.
- 12:08Speaker 1: You mentioned Christian Gonzales. No new news there.
- 12:11Speaker 2: We have no more information than we did yesterday in
- 12:13Speaker 2: terms of that situation. Mike Rabel did not speak today.
- 12:19Speaker 2: He wasn't a scheduled to speak. Nick Siriani did, so
- 12:23Speaker 2: nothing new on the Christian Gonzales front.
- 12:26Speaker 1: No, just waiting to see.
- 12:27Speaker 5: But I think, you know, again echoing what Evan said,
- 12:30Speaker 5: I think they really need Christian Gonzalez out there.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You can see I mean to your point.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Fred, I mean love Christian Barmore and Milt Williams up front,
- 12:37Speaker 5: but you know the rest of the guys around them
- 12:39Speaker 5: in the front seven are you know, solid NFL players,
- 12:42Speaker 5: But I don't think there's really any superstars around them,
- 12:44Speaker 5: and the superstars to me are more on the back
- 12:47Speaker 5: end with Gonzalez and you know, Byern and Craig Woodson emerging.
- 12:50Speaker 5: I mean, he looked great yesterday. But they're gonna need
- 12:53Speaker 5: to find a way to get consistent pressure without always
- 12:56Speaker 5: having a blitz, like as said, because if you live.
- 12:58Speaker 1: In that world, you're gonna get gas.
- 13:00Speaker 5: They're gonna find they're gonna find a seam in that
- 13:02Speaker 5: you know, they're gonna dump it off to a little
- 13:03Speaker 5: screen pass and that guy's gone. So I just think
- 13:07Speaker 5: that's if you really want this defense to be elite,
- 13:09Speaker 5: it's about getting pressure with four and.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Talk about getting He doesn't come out to practice a lot,
- 13:17Speaker 1: does he know?
- 13:18Speaker 6: That's why I said, it's a rare sight. Ye see
- 13:20Speaker 6: him out here. I put him on the edge right now.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Maybe you could do a snap or two. I think to.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Just be a little bit positive about the defense. When
- 13:31Speaker 3: they did blitz, they hit was really good defense. Three
- 13:38Speaker 3: straight dropbacks pressure with blitzers up the middle mostly. And
- 13:43Speaker 3: so the encouraging part is is that the schemes were
- 13:45Speaker 3: working when they did blitz. They were getting free runners
- 13:48Speaker 3: and they were getting guys to the quarterback. It's just
- 13:51Speaker 3: you know, it give us and it takes the way
- 13:54Speaker 3: you know early on in practice to hit will Shipley
- 13:56Speaker 3: on a wheel route down down the sideline because they
- 13:58Speaker 3: dropped Elijah Ponder out to the rush and they blitzed
- 14:01Speaker 3: Robert Splaine, and Robert Splaine got there, but Shipley had
- 14:04Speaker 3: the matchup on Ponder and Hurts found him for a
- 14:07Speaker 3: big play. So if you're gonna blitz like that, it's
- 14:09Speaker 3: gonna be risk reward. You know you're gonna give up
- 14:12Speaker 3: some plays and you're gonna make some plays.
- 14:13Speaker 2: So with with Gonzales out of the picture right now,
- 14:16Speaker 2: Carlton Davis is now your number one corner.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I didn't think he had that great a day. They
- 14:23Speaker 1: went at him a lot.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw Number seven involved in a lot of
- 14:27Speaker 2: pass plays.
- 14:27Speaker 5: For these Yeah, I mean, I agree with you. I
- 14:30Speaker 5: just I find it hard to get worked up about
- 14:32Speaker 5: worrying about Carlton Davis, a veteran who you know, played
- 14:35Speaker 5: his best football last year in the playoffs, and that's
- 14:38Speaker 5: what I think.
- 14:38Speaker 1: You'll get from Carlton Davis. I'm glad that he's healthy,
- 14:41Speaker 1: that he's out there.
- 14:43Speaker 5: But I think I agree with you, though, Fred, I
- 14:45Speaker 5: think they they did target him a little bit. And
- 14:47Speaker 5: you know, to Jack's point, seeing guys like you know
- 14:50Speaker 5: in the backup seeing how those guys CHUCKI Trees, Charles Woods,
- 14:53Speaker 5: how is you know, he look it seems like he's
- 14:54Speaker 5: gonna play a part, you know in some of these
- 14:57Speaker 5: sub packages. Del Pettis seems like he's gonna play a
- 14:59Speaker 5: part in some of these sub packages. So keeping an
- 15:02Speaker 5: eye on those guys and seeing how they, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 5: just develop as they get more snaps.
- 15:07Speaker 1: We're seeing a lot of guys get opportunities out here.
- 15:08Speaker 2: You mentioned Woodson, Yeah, he's had a good camp and
- 15:12Speaker 2: he had a good day yesterday. I think Patriots fans
- 15:15Speaker 2: ought to be excited about him. Oh here's another guy
- 15:17Speaker 2: that they drafted. Yeah, that could develop into you know,
- 15:21Speaker 2: one of your solid safeties for years to come. I
- 15:24Speaker 2: mean maybe more than solid too. I just I think
- 15:26Speaker 2: he's all over the place. I think he's been going
- 15:28Speaker 2: after the quarterback. We saw that yesterday. He's getting his
- 15:30Speaker 2: hands on balls consistently.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Was so interested to see how he would blossom with
- 15:35Speaker 5: Kevin Bayer and I think we're still curious how they're
- 15:38Speaker 5: going to use those guys. Are they going to be
- 15:40Speaker 5: interchangeable or is no buyer going to be kind of
- 15:42Speaker 5: be on the back end and Woodson's going to be
- 15:44Speaker 5: in the box, moving around making plays.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I'm really excited about Craig Woodson here.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Two, I'm still a little unsure, you know how that
- 15:52Speaker 6: whole group. I think that whole group potentially is the
- 15:54Speaker 6: strength of the team secondary. Yeah, but I'm a little
- 15:58Speaker 6: concerned about it if Gonzale is you know, any prolonged
- 16:02Speaker 6: absence here and I I'm not to the point where
- 16:05Speaker 6: I'm overly worried about the contract now. I think if
- 16:08Speaker 6: we get to the end of preseason, if we're talking,
- 16:10Speaker 6: you know, this time next week, you know, as we're
- 16:13Speaker 6: getting ready for the Cleveland game, and there's still nothing
- 16:16Speaker 6: going on. Now, you're potentially bleeding into the season without
- 16:21Speaker 6: the contract being resolved, without him, I kind of I
- 16:24Speaker 6: think there's been a lot of open guys. I think
- 16:25Speaker 6: there were a lot of open guys yesterday and those
- 16:27Speaker 6: eleven on eleven periods that we watched right below us
- 16:30Speaker 6: evidently that no one else in the media saw. So
- 16:35Speaker 6: I thought, well, just you you know, Marcus Jones my
- 16:39Speaker 6: views crush.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I have a crush on Marcus Jones Jack, but.
- 16:43Speaker 6: Yeah, and he had a nice place like Woodson, I
- 16:46Speaker 6: think had a couple of picks. I just I'm not
- 16:50Speaker 6: as concerned about the turnovers the takeaways. Now, if you
- 16:53Speaker 6: take the ball away all year, then you had a
- 16:55Speaker 6: great year.
- 16:56Speaker 1: That's one of those things.
- 16:57Speaker 6: I feel like takeaways are just not one of those
- 17:00Speaker 6: things that you can rely on. It's not a constant.
- 17:03Speaker 6: So so what happens when you don't create takeaways? You
- 17:06Speaker 6: have to come up with stops. I have my concerns
- 17:08Speaker 6: about that if Gonzalez is not part of the pitcher.
- 17:11Speaker 6: I think I've seen some open guys. I think bayered
- 17:13Speaker 6: In Woodson have let some guys get open behind them,
- 17:17Speaker 6: you know, periodically whoever's playing center field.
- 17:20Speaker 1: There was one yesterday like sort.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Of a deep over route that it was either Dentavian
- 17:24Speaker 6: Wicks or Elijah Moore.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I think it was Elijah Moore. I think I think,
- 17:28Speaker 1: you know, Evan and I had like three different guys
- 17:30Speaker 1: that we.
- 17:31Speaker 6: Have identified as the numbers on the terribly doesn't matter
- 17:35Speaker 6: because he was behind the Patriots defense and that I
- 17:37Speaker 6: don't want to see anyone.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the concerning part about when Evan says they're
- 17:41Speaker 4: gonna have to rely on the Blitz is the secondary
- 17:44Speaker 4: is one of no doubt, one of the strengths of
- 17:46Speaker 4: your team and probably a strength of the defense, right,
- 17:48Speaker 4: But how much stress can you put on that unit
- 17:50Speaker 4: if you're gonna be blitzing the whole time and relying
- 17:52Speaker 4: on those guys to either cover a lot of space
- 17:55Speaker 4: in blit zone coverage or stay with their guy and
- 17:58Speaker 4: man blitz, you know what I mean. And I think
- 17:59Speaker 4: that is that is what concerns me the most as
- 18:02Speaker 4: a season goes on. You can get away with it
- 18:04Speaker 4: in spurts and it can be a great you know,
- 18:06Speaker 4: ideally a blitz is a great curve ball, right for
- 18:09Speaker 4: a defense and a great weapon to use strategically, but
- 18:12Speaker 4: if you're relying on it to get home that that
- 18:14Speaker 4: concerns me long term.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know, back to the turnover situation, I
- 18:19Speaker 2: agree with you, Paul, like causing turnovers, you don't can't
- 18:23Speaker 2: always count.
- 18:24Speaker 7: On it some defenses.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That having giveaways though, it is something you can control.
- 18:30Speaker 2: That's something that I think the Patriots have to look
- 18:32Speaker 2: at this year because they put the ball on the
- 18:34Speaker 2: ground a lot last year. It wasn't just Ramond je
- 18:37Speaker 2: Stevenson the quarterback then too.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Yeah, they were fortunate they didn't lose more fumbles.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Rightast year, Right, so I think they had maybe a
- 18:44Speaker 2: record in the playoffs for fumbles or something like that,
- 18:47Speaker 2: so that when it comes to the turnover battle, what
- 18:50Speaker 2: you can control is what you do throwing picks and
- 18:54Speaker 2: losing the ball, and that's more important, I think than
- 18:57Speaker 2: getting them.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no doubt the depth that corner. I'm not
- 19:02Speaker 3: so concerned maybe as Paul about the safeties. I think
- 19:05Speaker 3: the safeties are pretty good, but the depth that corner
- 19:08Speaker 3: behind those top three has been something I think that's
- 19:11Speaker 3: on all of our radars all summer long.
- 19:13Speaker 1: But isn't that the case with every team?
- 19:15Speaker 3: Well, I was just about to say, like, we're talking
- 19:17Speaker 3: about the fourth corner not being good enough at this point,
- 19:20Speaker 3: but that's where we're at. It's not that they don't
- 19:22Speaker 3: have frontline players that aren't good enough. It's that you know,
- 19:24Speaker 3: their depth in certain areas aren't good enough, which is
- 19:27Speaker 3: a first world it's a first world problem to have,
- 19:29Speaker 3: There's no doubt. But those guys do have some injury histories.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Marcus Jones plays a physically demanding position in the nickel
- 19:36Speaker 3: in the slot, so like those guys have missed some games,
- 19:39Speaker 3: you know, and I.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Just feel like it.
- 19:41Speaker 6: It looks different, and I think you put too much
- 19:45Speaker 6: pressure on that guy, Greg, May you know, I think
- 19:49Speaker 6: it looks different without Gonzales, and I think the trickle
- 19:52Speaker 6: down effect is noticeable. I think we saw it a
- 19:55Speaker 6: little bit early, but they're gonna have Gonzales, Like okay,
- 20:00Speaker 6: if that. If that's the case, then I think that's
- 20:01Speaker 6: where's he go secondaries of strength.
- 20:03Speaker 1: I worried he's not going to be all in, Okay.
- 20:06Speaker 6: I worry like maybe, like, let me ask you this,
- 20:08Speaker 6: and well, I'm going to stake this up front because
- 20:10Speaker 6: we all don't know.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah, the answer is we don't know the truth.
- 20:14Speaker 6: We don't know exactly what is your gut telling you
- 20:17Speaker 6: about his health status right now?
- 20:19Speaker 1: I think that if he had to play, he could play.
- 20:22Speaker 2: But I think when you get a little tweak like
- 20:24Speaker 2: that and you're in the contract situation you're at, you
- 20:26Speaker 2: think twice.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And you might be right. I think he's one hundred
- 20:29Speaker 1: percent Okay.
- 20:29Speaker 6: I think I think like ten days ago, he turned
- 20:32Speaker 6: his ankle and used that as an opportunity to hold in.
- 20:34Speaker 6: That's what I feel, Okay, So what's to prevent that
- 20:37Speaker 6: from happening?
- 20:38Speaker 1: When the season comes.
- 20:39Speaker 3: I suppose, I mean, and I guess you know, he's
- 20:42Speaker 3: put enough product on tape that he's going to get
- 20:45Speaker 3: paid regardless, But that would be the one thing, right.
- 20:48Speaker 3: It is like if they're making you sing for your supper,
- 20:50Speaker 3: so to speak. The only thing that you can do
- 20:52Speaker 3: out is go out and ball out. And whether it's
- 20:54Speaker 3: for the Patriots or it's for one of the other
- 20:56Speaker 3: thirty one teams that's going to pay you, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 3: putting more good tape out there, a pro caliber team
- 21:01Speaker 3: that's making your case, hopefully that's what ends up having.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Let me ask you a rules question, because I don't
- 21:07Speaker 2: know the answer to this. If you're a player who
- 21:09Speaker 2: has an injury and the team decides to put you
- 21:12Speaker 2: on IR, do you get credit for that season?
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yes, yes you do. Yes, Okay, you know.
- 21:19Speaker 6: He's not going to go on IR for the whole season,
- 21:22Speaker 6: but yes you do. If you get placed on IR.
- 21:24Speaker 6: That's in a crude season.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's in a crude season. What's disappointing.
- 21:27Speaker 4: But these conversations to me is that he's a guy
- 21:29Speaker 4: where you praised him right.
- 21:30Speaker 1: At the beginning of camp. He's out there in pads.
- 21:32Speaker 4: It's like, Okay, when is this holding potentially going to start?
- 21:35Speaker 1: They start hitting, They're still.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Doing eleven on eleven when the full pads come on,
- 21:39Speaker 4: He's still out there, and all of a sudden, you
- 21:40Speaker 4: find yourself.
- 21:41Speaker 1: In this situation.
- 21:42Speaker 4: And I think a lot has changed in Patriots fans
- 21:44Speaker 4: minds over the past week.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Milton Williams was impressive yesterday too.
- 21:49Speaker 6: You know, he's out there with his fellow defensive tackles there,
- 21:53Speaker 6: Lennon Taylor and Joshua Farmer. But Milton Williams showed up
- 21:57Speaker 6: to me yesterday. I mean he always does, but you know,
- 22:00Speaker 6: I thought he was noticeable.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Yeah, on a couple of those run plays that we've
- 22:04Speaker 3: been talking about. I thought ninety seven was in the
- 22:06Speaker 3: backfield and in a game he might have been able
- 22:08Speaker 3: to make the play. You know, in a practice you
- 22:11Speaker 3: don't necessarily see that as much.
- 22:12Speaker 1: There was a little bit of a role reversal, Mike.
- 22:14Speaker 6: There was actually one play where that happened exactly the
- 22:17Speaker 6: way Evan just described. And I said, I actually think
- 22:19Speaker 6: Milton Williams would have made the tackle, and Evan was like,
- 22:22Speaker 6: he was there, but I don't know for sure if
- 22:24Speaker 6: he would have made the tackle. Well, it was Saquon
- 22:26Speaker 6: Barkley with the bat, so you never.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Know what that guy if he jumped over him backwards.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, Barkley was just tremendous yesterday, like the
- 22:33Speaker 3: patients to run the ball between the tackles and feed
- 22:36Speaker 3: off the blocks and you know, feel his way through
- 22:38Speaker 3: and then hit the gas once he was in the
- 22:40Speaker 3: open field.
- 22:41Speaker 2: You know, I've got to be honest with all the
- 22:42Speaker 2: talk about, you know, the trenches for the Eagles, I
- 22:45Speaker 2: completely forgot.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Oh, Saquon Barkley's on that team too. I know that
- 22:49Speaker 1: happened to Joy practice.
- 22:50Speaker 6: If you want, and also I'm not this is not
- 22:52Speaker 6: a shot at.
- 22:52Speaker 1: You, because I know you did watch.
- 22:53Speaker 6: But if people were watching the practice, you would have
- 22:56Speaker 6: seen sa Quon Barkley hit his head on the goalpost.
- 22:58Speaker 6: Of all three times, right, he probably had like one
- 23:01Speaker 6: hundred and twenty rushing yards in like ten carries in
- 23:04Speaker 6: that scrimm, you know, scrimmage.
- 23:06Speaker 7: Yeah, the patients.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Chesney coming on with the with the head coach. Yeah, okay,
- 23:14Speaker 2: you're gonna get him back. Earlier, we saw Drake May
- 23:17Speaker 2: and by the way, wrapping Drake May. You know, I
- 23:20Speaker 2: know these guys make fun of me because they don't
- 23:23Speaker 2: think I.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Like Drake May him. I'm the only one wearing a
- 23:26Speaker 1: Drake May T shirt. Okay.
- 23:27Speaker 6: I didn't say, all right, you don't support him, said
- 23:30Speaker 6: down on him.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I mean that's understanding. Okay, there you go.
- 23:33Speaker 2: And by the way, by the way, I need to
- 23:35Speaker 2: clarify Patriot's nation on his nickname, Drake Drake May May.
- 23:39Speaker 2: His nickname is not Drake Drake May May. His nickname
- 23:43Speaker 2: is Drake May. You don't say the whole thing. So
- 23:47Speaker 2: it's not the Mario Pop Douglas. His nickname is pop.
- 23:51Speaker 2: So Drake May's nickname is Drake May. Right, I see
- 23:55Speaker 2: what she I see what she's saying. So what do
- 23:57Speaker 2: we call him?
- 23:58Speaker 1: Drake May?
- 23:59Speaker 2: Okay, so so good. He doesn't need a nickname. So
- 24:02Speaker 2: his nickname becomes Drake May.
- 24:04Speaker 5: If you're writing it like on a T shirt like
- 24:08Speaker 5: you Yeah, yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Of course, so like Ja Mario Pop Douglas, Drake Drake
- 24:13Speaker 2: May May. But when you're referring to him by his nickname,
- 24:15Speaker 2: you just say Drake May.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Yeah. You can say Drake too if you want, Just
- 24:19Speaker 1: Drake Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 7: I mean he he just some of the.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Some of the throws he made yesterday we're just yeasty.
- 24:26Speaker 3: I mean he was on the crossing route early on
- 24:29Speaker 3: in practice. I think we posted it on on social
- 24:32Speaker 3: that Greek Wollen was right on A. J. Brown's hip
- 24:35Speaker 3: and he just put it exactly where it needed to be.
- 24:38Speaker 3: The ball down the sideline the Brown over his outside
- 24:40Speaker 3: shoulder was just an unbelievable throw.
- 24:43Speaker 7: Uh he was.
- 24:44Speaker 3: I mean, quarterback's good. Course, Like I I feel like
- 24:47Speaker 3: I just don't need to really talk talk about the
- 24:49Speaker 3: quarterback and a ton. The quarterback's good. The Patriots are
- 24:53Speaker 3: in good hands. It's it's cool to be in one
- 24:55Speaker 3: of these practices. And like Jalen Hurts is a name
- 24:57Speaker 3: brand quarterback, and the Patriots have the better quarterback at
- 24:59Speaker 3: the and it's not particularly close.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I didn't think it was that close yesterday. You know,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I thought May was markedly better.
- 25:05Speaker 5: I think what was apparent to me too, is that
- 25:07Speaker 5: you just see the element of Drake May.
- 25:09Speaker 1: That's a gamer.
- 25:09Speaker 5: I think he gets up for like competition against another
- 25:12Speaker 5: team we've seen, you know, not to say that he's
- 25:14Speaker 5: bored or anything like that during regular practice, but when
- 25:16Speaker 5: it gets competitive, I think that's when you.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Really start to see his best stuff.
- 25:20Speaker 4: What has to make you feel so good as a
- 25:21Speaker 4: Patriot fan. Is just a couple of years ago, you're like, Okay,
- 25:25Speaker 4: where are we going at this Petica? Where we were
- 25:27Speaker 4: at Jack.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And then you blink and you're just right.
- 25:30Speaker 4: It really stood out to me yesterday when you guys
- 25:32Speaker 4: were talking about how within the organization they.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Just expect him to be the standard.
- 25:36Speaker 4: I mean they were talking about how you know, he
- 25:39Speaker 4: is basically a part of the organization in terms of
- 25:42Speaker 4: the standards that they need day in and day out.
- 25:44Speaker 4: He's an example for other guys to follow. And that's
- 25:47Speaker 4: what's so refreshing. And honestly, we took it for granted
- 25:49Speaker 4: with Tom Brady, right, it was happening for so long,
- 25:52Speaker 4: and then you get.
- 25:52Speaker 1: A dose or reality, you know what, particular without a
- 25:56Speaker 1: doubt what you know.
- 25:56Speaker 4: The probably two thirds these NFL teams are dealing with
- 25:59Speaker 4: year and in, year out, and then you're right back to
- 26:01Speaker 4: having a guy who every day is delivering and it
- 26:04Speaker 4: is just not a question.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It's unbelievable. Look, who found the lobster?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Graul Sales always knows when they're free from there's
- 26:13Speaker 2: a company wide email, there's a lobster for everybody.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Come on down, they have a.
- 26:17Speaker 7: Different Uh, they have a different budget on the road.
- 26:19Speaker 2: And absolutely, well they're they're entertaining guests. Yeah they call it, Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 2: exactly so uh, Hunter Henry And in his quarterback Drake May.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Saw Josh McDaniels walking up the hill second ago, and
- 26:35Speaker 3: I just I keep coming back to how fortunate Drake
- 26:38Speaker 3: May is to have Josh McDaniels as his offensive coordinator.
- 26:41Speaker 1: For the second year in a row.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, it's just it's such a great pairing
- 26:45Speaker 3: and I hope that that's there together for a very,
- 26:47Speaker 3: very long time because I think Drake May is going
- 26:50Speaker 3: to be a perennial m VP candidate.
- 26:52Speaker 7: He's calling plays for him.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Yeah, bar more being eased into the eleven and eleven's
- 26:57Speaker 2: coming in situationally, and.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I had had a pressure in that two minute
- 27:01Speaker 3: drill we talked about yesterday. Did some third down situational
- 27:04Speaker 3: type of works and one on ones looks good, looks.
- 27:07Speaker 7: Strong, looks ready to go.
- 27:09Speaker 3: I think that one is like a load management thing
- 27:11Speaker 3: that they don't really need Christian Barmore to be taking
- 27:14Speaker 3: too many reps this time of year, so it's like
- 27:16Speaker 3: a little.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Less load management overall. I would say this year maybe
- 27:19Speaker 1: is that Uh would you agree with that?
- 27:21Speaker 5: Like, I mean, Morgan Moses, I feel like we've seen
- 27:23Speaker 5: more of him this summer than we might have seen
- 27:24Speaker 5: last summer. I feel like you see more Christian Barmore.
- 27:27Speaker 5: I don't know if that was still Barmore.
- 27:29Speaker 6: I think we've seen less of I think Barbore's missed,
- 27:32Speaker 6: He's missed entire practices.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But Moses is a good I think you're probably right.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I think guys would come out late, you know, be like, oh,
- 27:39Speaker 5: that's sometimes he's left early too.
- 27:41Speaker 6: He has, and he's he's come out late, but not
- 27:44Speaker 6: I don't think is often. I think Mike is right
- 27:46Speaker 6: about that, and he's also at times Lomo will go in, yeah, finish,
- 27:50Speaker 6: like the second set of eleven on eleven's, and then
- 27:53Speaker 6: maybe Marcus Bryant will go in and finish.
- 27:56Speaker 3: I wonder how much of him being more present at
- 27:58Speaker 3: practice has to do with Caleb Blowmo and trying to
- 28:01Speaker 3: mentor Caleb Blomo a little bit, because I think a
- 28:03Speaker 3: lot of the times Morgan Moses is just kind of
- 28:06Speaker 3: standing there as Caleb Blowman is taking reps. And I
- 28:09Speaker 3: think that those two there there's a mentorship that is
- 28:11Speaker 3: trying to happen there between those guys.
- 28:13Speaker 2: I know camp is competition. You know, as a head coach,
- 28:15Speaker 2: you want competition in your camp. Do you think a
- 28:18Speaker 2: guy like Morgan Moses feels any competition or is it like, ah, no,
- 28:23Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 28:24Speaker 4: I think he's at a stage of his career where
- 28:25Speaker 4: he's looking to pass the torch.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Eventually, he knows he's on the back half, you know,
- 28:29Speaker 1: for sure.
- 28:30Speaker 4: And I don't think he feels threatened by a first
- 28:32Speaker 4: round project tackle. I think he very much knows the
- 28:35Speaker 4: type of player he is, especially with the games he
- 28:37Speaker 4: gave him last year, you know, at that age and
- 28:39Speaker 4: his injury history to be able to play that many games,
- 28:42Speaker 4: I think he's very comfortable in that role. And I
- 28:44Speaker 4: think you see it with the way he mentors the guys.
- 28:46Speaker 4: You're always seeing reports and video coming out of him
- 28:49Speaker 4: after practice, working with a young tackle, working with a
- 28:51Speaker 4: defensive end. I think the way he's been so generous
- 28:54Speaker 4: with Will Campbell and Lomu the past couple of years,
- 28:57Speaker 4: at least from what I've seen from Afar, makes me
- 29:00Speaker 4: think that he's very much secure.
- 29:02Speaker 2: And I find that interesting because so often we hear,
- 29:04Speaker 2: oh Tom Brady's gonna mentor you know, uh, that's not
- 29:10Speaker 2: always the case. A lot of veterans like, hey, I
- 29:13Speaker 2: got work to do myself. I don't have time to
- 29:15Speaker 2: be helping other people.
- 29:17Speaker 3: It does help that he plays tackle at a high level,
- 29:20Speaker 3: and that's not a position of depth across the league.
- 29:22Speaker 3: So if it's not here that he's starting at right tackle,
- 29:25Speaker 3: going to be somewhere.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I think he's pretty close.
- 29:27Speaker 6: I mean, I think there were some reports in the
- 29:29Speaker 6: off season that he really contemplated retirement. I would be
- 29:32Speaker 6: surprised if this wasn't his last year, So I think
- 29:35Speaker 6: he can look at it that way too. And I
- 29:36Speaker 6: think it's one thing to say, like, and I'm not
- 29:39Speaker 6: please Evan, do not jump.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Buggly on me when I say this.
- 29:44Speaker 6: But I'm not suggesting that there there aren't nuances in
- 29:48Speaker 6: techniques in a lot that goes into playing tackle.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Of course there are.
- 29:52Speaker 6: But to compare a mentoring situation for a veteran offensive.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Lineman to a quarterback is not really close.
- 30:00Speaker 6: Like I can understand any quarterback that says I have
- 30:03Speaker 6: all I could do on my own to know what
- 30:06Speaker 6: I'm doing and get the game plans right and understand
- 30:09Speaker 6: my checks and everything. I mean with the offensive line,
- 30:12Speaker 6: there's a lot that goes into it. I'm not diminishing yet,
- 30:14Speaker 6: but I don't.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Think it's anywhere near the scope of what a quarterback
- 30:18Speaker 1: would need to do.
- 30:19Speaker 7: I'll allow that.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, what do you think I think?
- 30:21Speaker 6: I think I soft pedaled it enough to not have
- 30:24Speaker 6: every day.
- 30:26Speaker 1: You big guys, you just sit there and you block people.
- 30:31Speaker 7: It doesn't matter.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Like if you're using a two hand punch, independent hands,
- 30:35Speaker 3: vertical said jump set you.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I could do that.
- 30:37Speaker 7: You know, it doesn't matter. You know, they just blocked
- 30:39Speaker 7: the guy.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I'm glad. I'm glad we had common ground. It just
- 30:42Speaker 1: doesn't matter. Just make sure that guy doesn't hit the quarterback.
- 30:45Speaker 3: You know, we can vertical set all the time and
- 30:47Speaker 3: Will Campbell can go back into the quarterback slap every
- 30:49Speaker 3: single play, or we can learn how to.
- 30:51Speaker 6: And everybody can tell me what a great rookie year
- 30:53Speaker 6: he had. So it doesn't matter. You just prove my point.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I love Paul's ability to push the buttons.
- 30:57Speaker 4: But I will say about Morgan Moses's tackle in the
- 31:01Speaker 4: league feels like one of those positions where age catches
- 31:04Speaker 4: up to the quickest. I mean you can mask it
- 31:06Speaker 4: at some positions inside a guard. You got to help
- 31:08Speaker 4: at center, you got help a ton of positions around
- 31:11Speaker 4: the league.
- 31:12Speaker 1: You're not as much on an island. A good slush
- 31:15Speaker 1: can enjoy off.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Oh you don't eat dells with a straw. Oh my god,
- 31:19Speaker 2: he must not be from New England.
- 31:21Speaker 1: What do you need a little spoon?
- 31:23Speaker 2: You know, you don't even use a spoon. You squeeze
- 31:25Speaker 2: the cup and just and force it out, right.
- 31:27Speaker 1: They have the sticky juice, just rip. I know, at
- 31:32Speaker 1: least get the little little straws.
- 31:34Speaker 5: No, no, no, you gotta straw at the end, don't
- 31:37Speaker 5: You don't eat I don't know.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Then you get the nice juice at the bottom. It's
- 31:41Speaker 1: all cold.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that finishing, finishing that off. But I think
- 31:45Speaker 4: you think about being a tackle in the NFL. Imagine
- 31:48Speaker 4: having a deal. You're getting up there in age, right,
- 31:50Speaker 4: You're feeling every little injury, every bumping, the bruise.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You think about.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Imagine you're just put yourself in the picture of someone,
- 31:57Speaker 4: maybe you know on the Seattle Seahawks. Maybe you're getting
- 32:00Speaker 4: old and you got to go deal with Miles Garrett
- 32:02Speaker 4: and you got to deal with Nick Bosa twice a year.
- 32:04Speaker 4: It's a position where you know, age catches up to
- 32:07Speaker 4: you quickly when you're out there on an island against
- 32:08Speaker 4: some of the freakest of athletes the world has offered.
- 32:11Speaker 5: Yeah, we haven't seen like a camp retirement in a while.
- 32:14Speaker 5: I remember, like, yeah, we had a run of those.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Bruski he kind of what it wasn't he won Nikovich
- 32:19Speaker 5: kind of one.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a lot of line again.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Yeah, Dante Scarneki used to put those guys out the
- 32:25Speaker 3: pasture on a daily basis, Like they come to one
- 32:28Speaker 3: practice with Dante and they'd be like, yeah, all right, I'm.
- 32:31Speaker 7: Not long for this, I'm out absolutely all right.
- 32:36Speaker 1: What else are we looking for today? Right now? We
- 32:39Speaker 1: can't have our cameras on the field. I mean, to me,
- 32:43Speaker 1: the world where it is consistency.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Paul said it earlier, and that's you know, you can
- 32:46Speaker 5: have one good practice against the Eagles. Did you go
- 32:48Speaker 5: home and you started reading some of the headlines that
- 32:51Speaker 5: other people wrote about how you dominated the practice, and
- 32:54Speaker 5: you know you were in the super Bowl and you're
- 32:55Speaker 5: you're back, and you know you're gonna just walk out
- 32:58Speaker 5: here today and put the helmet on and roll this
- 33:00Speaker 5: Eagles team again.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Uh.
- 33:02Speaker 5: You know, look, any team can have a lucky year
- 33:04Speaker 5: and it all kind of lines up and you have
- 33:05Speaker 5: a great season. But the teams that are special are
- 33:08Speaker 5: the ones that do it year after year after year.
- 33:10Speaker 5: That's what you know, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's Patriots did.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Every year. It was a new team. They found new
- 33:15Speaker 1: ways to win, but they were always good.
- 33:17Speaker 5: And you know, can the Patriots get back to that
- 33:19Speaker 5: consistency not just oh yeah it was great last year.
- 33:21Speaker 5: We had an easy schedule, we'd have any injuries. Everything
- 33:23Speaker 5: kind of lined up. We went to the Super Bowl,
- 33:25Speaker 5: and now you know we're going to be back around
- 33:27Speaker 5: like the six seven wins that you know some people
- 33:29Speaker 5: might have thought they would have the.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Team just do it again.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Podcasts at Patriots dot com is the email address. Let's
- 33:36Speaker 2: see who was this, Mike? I think, let's see, looks
- 33:40Speaker 2: like a J. Brown went off. Could that be because
- 33:43Speaker 2: he has familiarity with the Eagles defense because he's practiced
- 33:46Speaker 2: with them a lot in the past.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I think he's just good good. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 33:51Speaker 1: I might have helped him, but yeah, I think wasn't there.
- 33:54Speaker 6: I think he's a good player. I just you know,
- 33:56Speaker 6: and I think he's been getting better and better. It
- 33:58Speaker 6: seeming seems to me every day of camp. Yeah, you know,
- 34:02Speaker 6: I will allow if he wanted to sort of downplay
- 34:05Speaker 6: his his performance yesterday, maybe he had a little more motivation, Yeah,
- 34:10Speaker 6: motivation than anybody else, which you know is hard to deny.
- 34:14Speaker 6: You know, he was asked point blank you know if
- 34:16Speaker 6: he has spoken at all to Jalen Hurts.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Nope, nope. It was a very quick short answer that
- 34:23Speaker 1: I think told you a lot.
- 34:25Speaker 3: It feels like a similar situation going on with my
- 34:27Speaker 3: Celtics and Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, and we just
- 34:31Speaker 3: switched cities on a and then you look at like
- 34:34Speaker 3: Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer, and Roman Anthony was practically
- 34:37Speaker 3: in tears talking about the fact that Marcel Meyer got traded.
- 34:40Speaker 3: So I think you got a nice indication of where
- 34:43Speaker 3: things stand right now between A. J.
- 34:44Speaker 7: Brown and his teammates.
- 34:46Speaker 4: Due to your point, I think when you talk about
- 34:48Speaker 4: consistency day two of a joint practice like this, you
- 34:51Speaker 4: got to remember going into that first practice, you're probably
- 34:53Speaker 4: looking at tape.
- 34:54Speaker 1: From last year's games.
- 34:57Speaker 4: Last night, yesterday afternoon, they had a chance to watch
- 34:59Speaker 4: the film from practice yesterday, and they're all making adjustments
- 35:02Speaker 4: coming into today's practice. And I think that's where you'll
- 35:05Speaker 4: be impressed with the Patriots if they can have a
- 35:07Speaker 4: full day of tape, a full practice on tape, and
- 35:09Speaker 4: then come out still execute and still you know, for
- 35:12Speaker 4: for the most part, I guess beat the Eagles in
- 35:14Speaker 4: terms of practice wise.
- 35:16Speaker 1: That that tells you a lot.
- 35:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think yesterday we saw a lot
- 35:18Speaker 5: of middlefield stuff. I'm assuming today we're gonna probably see
- 35:21Speaker 5: red zone. I mean, that's probably the progression. Sure, there'll
- 35:23Speaker 5: be another one of those two minuttrils that that are good.
- 35:26Speaker 1: But you know, I think part.
- 35:27Speaker 5: Of it too is, you know, there's a lot of
- 35:29Speaker 5: seven on seven stuff going on yesterday that people are
- 35:31Speaker 5: going crazy for, and you know, that's nice, but that
- 35:34Speaker 5: doesn't really feed into my overall takeaway from practice. It's
- 35:37Speaker 5: you know, it's a piece of it, but it's a
- 35:39Speaker 5: lot of the competitive stuff, you know down the end,
- 35:41Speaker 5: and I mean, let's say too, a lot of times
- 35:43Speaker 5: these second days fights, Yeah, fights, I would say, let's
- 35:47Speaker 5: hope we don't see that there was that that that
- 35:49Speaker 5: one thing, but the field the field goal yesterday, and
- 35:52Speaker 5: you know they will mixing it up a little bit.
- 35:53Speaker 5: I think Jalen Carter was involved in the middle of
- 35:55Speaker 5: that for the Eagles, and then it kind of died down,
- 35:58Speaker 5: and I thought, really the practice without incident for the
- 36:01Speaker 5: most part. Yeah, and I hope you get the same
- 36:03Speaker 5: thing today that just bogs it down.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I don't see that particular incident blowing over to today.
- 36:07Speaker 5: No, but I mean, I you know, I remember the
- 36:10Speaker 5: Green Bay Joint practices Day two of that. It was
- 36:12Speaker 5: like seven fights in the first nine yea. I mean
- 36:15Speaker 5: it was stupid. It was like, what are we even
- 36:17Speaker 5: doing here? I don't think that's gonna happen today, but
- 36:20Speaker 5: you never know. Day two things are things can carry
- 36:23Speaker 5: over a little bit. So we'll see if guys can
- 36:24Speaker 5: stay disciplined.
- 36:25Speaker 2: Matt and Virginia Beach writes in Day Kwon Jones and
- 36:28Speaker 2: Shaq Thompson a side. I can't see the Patriots bringing
- 36:31Speaker 2: in any pass rushers of note before week one. My
- 36:34Speaker 2: question is that if our pass rushers aren't affecting the
- 36:37Speaker 2: quarterback the way we'd like, do you think the Patriots
- 36:40Speaker 2: would explore trade for a pass rusher near the trade deadline.
- 36:44Speaker 7: It's possible.
- 36:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know you're hoping and we talked a
- 36:48Speaker 3: little bit about this yesterday, that Elijah Ponder and Gay
- 36:51Speaker 3: Baccus improve and those guys emerge. You Ponder making that
- 36:55Speaker 3: year two lead backs, you know, coming into his own
- 36:58Speaker 3: as a rookie. Maybe you know, they're going to allow
- 37:00Speaker 3: those young guys some leash here to see if they
- 37:03Speaker 3: can bring the juice that they need. I thought Akis
- 37:05Speaker 3: flashed a couple of times yesterday, and I so consistently
- 37:08Speaker 3: see him do that in practice, maybe not with the speed, Paul, but.
- 37:13Speaker 7: With the other elements of his games.
- 37:15Speaker 3: So I'm you know, encouraged by what I've seen from
- 37:19Speaker 3: Acus and I think that hopefully that comes along a
- 37:22Speaker 3: little bit more.
- 37:23Speaker 7: But yeah, I mean, anything is on the table.
- 37:25Speaker 5: I connected to Harold Landry because I think you're going
- 37:28Speaker 5: to give Ponder and Acus some time to develop. They're
- 37:31Speaker 5: two young players that they clearly, you know, really like Ponder.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Not sure what his ceiling is. We talked about that yesterday.
- 37:37Speaker 5: Akus is figuring it all out. But you know, is
- 37:39Speaker 5: Harold Landry able to come back and be solid for
- 37:42Speaker 5: you and you know, give you you know, maybe even
- 37:44Speaker 5: just enable Ponder to move into that role like.
- 37:47Speaker 1: We talked about, as a pass rusher.
- 37:48Speaker 5: But you know, if Landry doesn't come back, or if
- 37:50Speaker 5: he's not what he used to be and they like
- 37:53Speaker 5: then I could definitely see them, you know, maybe trying
- 37:55Speaker 5: to add somebody. But I don't think they're going to
- 37:57Speaker 5: give up on Acis and Ponder anytime soon.
- 38:00Speaker 2: At the crowd another big crowd here at Let's State
- 38:02Speaker 2: in huge crowd yesterday, what do you think of Hassan
- 38:06Speaker 2: Redick as a like a later down the road veteran.
- 38:09Speaker 6: He's still on the market, I think, yeah, he's still unsigned.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I think I mean violence.
- 38:13Speaker 4: He plays the violence that and I think that's something
- 38:16Speaker 4: you hope if that's still a position in need towards
- 38:19Speaker 4: a trade deadline, you hope that's something they address. Because
- 38:21Speaker 4: they have a roster that can win the Super Bowl.
- 38:23Speaker 4: I think we can all agree on that. But if
- 38:25Speaker 4: that's still a position in need when you get there
- 38:27Speaker 4: and the young guys aren't exactly where you want him
- 38:29Speaker 4: to be and you feel like you don't want to
- 38:31Speaker 4: blitz all the time, like we talked about earlier, you
- 38:33Speaker 4: would hope that Patriots go and address that as a
- 38:35Speaker 4: team that's all in and trying to go win. The
- 38:37Speaker 4: big one is if that's really what you feel like,
- 38:40Speaker 4: can unlock everything and in the one missing piece, you
- 38:42Speaker 4: hope at the trade deadline or with a guy like Reddick,
- 38:45Speaker 4: they'll make a signing or a move to unlock that
- 38:48Speaker 4: missing piece.
- 38:49Speaker 1: David Main writes, and you know him, Jack, I don't
- 38:52Speaker 1: give me a last thing because.
- 38:54Speaker 6: Everybody in California for a while, so that's a much
- 38:57Speaker 6: bigger state than May.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Yeah. Dave's question is mainly for Evan.
- 39:02Speaker 2: I don't know why, but why doesn't Marcus Jones return kicks?
- 39:07Speaker 1: Is it really that different than punt return?
- 39:09Speaker 7: Oh, We've been over this a couple of times.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I think the main reason why he doesn't return them
- 39:14Speaker 3: is his body type and durability. Like, I don't think
- 39:17Speaker 3: they want to put him back there in risk injury
- 39:19Speaker 3: to him being back there.
- 39:21Speaker 7: They've talked about that in the past.
- 39:22Speaker 3: He already plays full time on defense, he returns punts,
- 39:25Speaker 3: He's got a lot on his plate already, So I
- 39:27Speaker 3: think it's a durability or just like injury protection thing.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Mostly it is a different skill set and I think
- 39:33Speaker 3: he would be good at it, but it is a
- 39:34Speaker 3: different skill set.
- 39:35Speaker 7: You look at guys that.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Return kickoffs, it's more straight line speed, Quardell Patterson type
- 39:40Speaker 3: of players. You look at punt returners, it's more Marcus Jones.
- 39:43Speaker 3: You want the jitterbugs, the guys that can make people miss.
- 39:45Speaker 3: So it is a little bit different in terms of
- 39:48Speaker 3: you know what you look for in that respect, but
- 39:50Speaker 3: they I think the main thing with Marcus Jones is
- 39:53Speaker 3: the durability factor.
- 39:54Speaker 6: Freddy, you had your Guyfton Chisholm made a guy miss.
- 39:57Speaker 1: On a punt return yesterday.
- 39:58Speaker 6: He had a good move, just put his foot the
- 40:00Speaker 6: ground and change directions.
- 40:02Speaker 7: The guys the guy.
- 40:05Speaker 1: The guys are on you a lot faster on a
- 40:07Speaker 1: punt return.
- 40:07Speaker 3: The gunners and the guys covering the punt, they're right
- 40:10Speaker 3: in there in the grill a lot of the time,
- 40:12Speaker 3: whereas the kickoff return you have a runway to kind
- 40:15Speaker 3: of build up speed.
- 40:16Speaker 7: So guys that can build up speed are more.
- 40:17Speaker 2: But it's a good question, and it's one that we've
- 40:19Speaker 2: thought about. Like a guy like Marcus Jones, I'll bet he.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Could do it, absolutely, he'd be their best kick.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Did it, Yeah, But you know how much I just
- 40:28Speaker 6: think it's a little bit more violent with the new
- 40:30Speaker 6: syst quote unquote dynamic.
- 40:33Speaker 3: I think that's why they don't put Travon Henderson back
- 40:36Speaker 3: there a ton either. And I think both those guys
- 40:39Speaker 3: Henderson did it in the playoffs last year when they
- 40:41Speaker 3: needed a kind of a play a spark from special teams. Like,
- 40:44Speaker 3: if you get to a point like that where it's
- 40:46Speaker 3: the AMC Championship game and you need a spark, then
- 40:48Speaker 3: I think that they might put the guy like Henderson
- 40:50Speaker 3: back there to try to get it to him.
- 40:54Speaker 4: So, so your original point on this topic is Troy
- 40:56Speaker 4: Brown last week talked about on the pregame show how
- 40:58Speaker 4: you want a bigger body to run through those arm
- 41:00Speaker 4: tackles on a kickoff compared to a punt return.
- 41:03Speaker 3: It's much more about build up speed than it is about,
- 41:05Speaker 3: you know, elusiveness. Yeah, that's the real difference.
- 41:08Speaker 2: Nick and North Dakota, Right, Sin wondering is has Duce
- 41:12Speaker 2: developed any Derek Henry type man crushes on any of
- 41:15Speaker 2: the Eagles players?
- 41:16Speaker 1: Is that your guy? Douce Derrick Henry?
- 41:18Speaker 5: Well, oh god, you know, since we're at a joint practice,
- 41:21Speaker 5: Jack and it's your first one, I'll share this story.
- 41:22Speaker 5: We were in a joint practice down in Tennessee in
- 41:25Speaker 5: twenty nineteen. My first like this is, I've been working
- 41:27Speaker 5: here like two.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Weeks a couple of times. It's all right, we're gonna
- 41:30Speaker 1: sit you down there. And so we're doing a live
- 41:31Speaker 1: show just like we are right now.
- 41:32Speaker 5: We were down on the field, we couldn't see anything,
- 41:34Speaker 5: and Derek Henry's actually rehabbing at the time, and so
- 41:37Speaker 5: he walked left to right in front of our tables
- 41:40Speaker 5: right well, he only was really wearing spandex shorts bread.
- 41:43Speaker 1: To be honest, that was oh, it wasn't just shorts.
- 41:45Speaker 1: It wasn't just sureless.
- 41:46Speaker 7: He's married to a woman.
- 41:47Speaker 5: And my jaws on the floor because I first looked
- 41:49Speaker 5: at him like, oh, they're they're working out, looking at Duce.
- 41:52Speaker 1: It's just like offensive tackle.
- 41:53Speaker 5: And then like my brain suddenly was like that's Derrick Henry.
- 41:57Speaker 5: And I'm like and I look and like Paul Fred
- 42:00Speaker 5: not or you were there, Paul Eric not even rattled,
- 42:03Speaker 5: you know, they're just continuing to do their analysis. And
- 42:05Speaker 5: then like I make eyes with Matt Morrell, who's also like,
- 42:09Speaker 5: guys wide hope we're going holy crap. So Dereck Henry's
- 42:12Speaker 5: been my guy ever since. But no, I haven't been
- 42:15Speaker 5: really spending much time. I got at the Eagles players.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I got one for you and not have to put
- 42:18Speaker 3: our camera guys on the spot. But ninety three for
- 42:22Speaker 3: the Eagles who are Bernard. He's from Nigeria. He did
- 42:25Speaker 3: not play college football okay in America. He's a bafway player.
- 42:29Speaker 3: He had a nine point nine out of ten relative
- 42:32Speaker 3: athletics scorer at relatively athletic at the International Combine and
- 42:36Speaker 3: he is a has second.
- 42:38Speaker 1: So the International Combine is that using the metric system?
- 42:41Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 42:43Speaker 1: No?
- 42:43Speaker 3: This guy he ran and it's weird too. I'll get
- 42:47Speaker 3: the exact numbers for you. He's an absolute free He
- 42:49Speaker 3: ran a two nine.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He actually had a.
- 42:52Speaker 3: Really good rep in one on ones against Elijah Verttucker yesterday.
- 42:55Speaker 3: He is six foot five, three hundred and six pounds.
- 42:58Speaker 3: He ran a four to six to three in the
- 43:00Speaker 3: forty yards its defensive lineman. He is a defensive tackle.
- 43:05Speaker 3: He jumped thirty nine inches in the vertical at six
- 43:09Speaker 3: five three oh six.
- 43:10Speaker 1: He ran a four to six three. Do you say
- 43:12Speaker 1: forty nine?
- 43:14Speaker 7: No? Thirty?
- 43:15Speaker 1: It's not get too crazy, okay.
- 43:17Speaker 5: So He's just a Nigerian lump of clay that they're
- 43:19Speaker 5: going to mold into another All.
- 43:20Speaker 3: Pro A classic Howie Roseman. You know, we're just gonna
- 43:24Speaker 3: figure this guy out. Thet we think talk about Ron
- 43:26Speaker 3: is a big Chesney fan.
- 43:27Speaker 7: Absolutely, yeah, Yeah, it seems like.
- 43:30Speaker 5: I love the Chesney's always got, like the broken in hat,
- 43:32Speaker 5: Like it doesn't look like he swung through the pro Shop.
- 43:34Speaker 1: On his shoes. But he never wears sleeves either. Yeah,
- 43:38Speaker 1: those sleeves either. What do we got into forty time
- 43:41Speaker 1: for Chesney right now? Do you think he likes that hat?
- 43:43Speaker 1: He wears that hat a lot.
- 43:44Speaker 7: He's six point sixty three.
- 43:46Speaker 1: He's at least sub seven.
- 43:47Speaker 2: I'll give him the meters of yards that had it
- 43:52Speaker 2: to Patriots Pro Shop. Yeah, let everyone know good Patriot,
- 43:56Speaker 2: Matt writes in something I was thinking about and I
- 43:58Speaker 2: wanted your thoughts. I feel what made the dynasty area
- 44:02Speaker 2: of Patriots so dangerous was the psychological effect that Tom
- 44:06Speaker 2: Brady had on the opponent. I believe that every team
- 44:09Speaker 2: that faced the Patriots tried as best as they could
- 44:12Speaker 2: to win, but they were mentally ready to lose.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Could Drake may develop in.
- 44:15Speaker 2: A QB that brings a similar psychological effect on opponents.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Well, first of all, do you agree with that premise? Yes, yeah,
- 44:23Speaker 1: one thousand percent. I mean you hear the sidelines of man,
- 44:25Speaker 1: that's Tom Brady over there.
- 44:26Speaker 5: I remember Mohammed Sanu, you know, talking about with somebody
- 44:29Speaker 5: on the sideline of Super Bowl fifty one. But yeah,
- 44:31Speaker 5: I mean you got to earn it. And I think
- 44:33Speaker 5: Tom Brady was we talk about all the time. He
- 44:36Speaker 5: was never dead until the clock hit zero, and he
- 44:38Speaker 5: was going to make a my bush.
- 44:39Speaker 1: You know.
- 44:40Speaker 5: That was what the like the adjustment in the Super
- 44:41Speaker 5: Bowl was where you're like looking at the scoreboard, You're like,
- 44:44Speaker 5: well it isn't twenty eight to three, But we.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Ain't got Tom Brady right now, you know.
- 44:47Speaker 2: I Mean I've always thought that not only did Brady
- 44:50Speaker 2: affect how players thought, he also affected how front offices thought,
- 44:56Speaker 2: especially in the AFC East. And I think during his
- 45:00Speaker 2: tenure they were so urgent in a panic to try
- 45:04Speaker 2: to establish themselves that they made a lot of bad
- 45:07Speaker 2: moves personnel wise, But for the right reasons.
- 45:10Speaker 6: There's no sense of trying to like build a team
- 45:12Speaker 6: that can't beat the best team in your division. Of course,
- 45:15Speaker 6: so when you have a guy like Brady who puts
- 45:17Speaker 6: that kind of a measuring stick, you need to try
- 45:20Speaker 6: to match that or exceed it.
- 45:22Speaker 1: And Fred's right.
- 45:23Speaker 6: Time after time, the Dolphins and Jets, especially the Bills
- 45:27Speaker 6: to a lesser extent, just failed to do it. They
- 45:29Speaker 6: couldn't get anybody in there at all that made any sense.
- 45:33Speaker 1: You know, Jets had a small window.
- 45:35Speaker 6: You know Rex Ryan was and again going back to
- 45:38Speaker 6: the original question of the email alert, like did Tom
- 45:41Speaker 6: Brady have guys beat before they played? Well, there was
- 45:44Speaker 6: one coach that wasn't affected by that, and it was
- 45:47Speaker 6: Rex Ryan.
- 45:47Speaker 1: That's true. He wasn't a sense. That's why they had
- 45:50Speaker 1: a little, small, little window.
- 45:51Speaker 6: Now, he wasn't a good enough coach to sustain it
- 45:53Speaker 6: the way Belichick did for twenty years. But he wasn't
- 45:56Speaker 6: afraid of Belichick. He respected him, but he wanted to
- 46:00Speaker 6: beat with him. He wasn't beaten before the game started.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Rex Ryan annoyed the hell out of me, but I
- 46:04Speaker 2: have to admit it was great content.
- 46:06Speaker 1: No.
- 46:06Speaker 2: I mean, you know, him calling all the season ticket
- 46:09Speaker 2: holders in New Jersey to say.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Come out and make a lot of noise.
- 46:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, when you think of that twenty years
- 46:14Speaker 5: of that run with Brady, that's the only time the
- 46:18Speaker 5: AFC really kind of it's the East felt kind of interesting,
- 46:21Speaker 5: you know. The other ones, It's like Paul rattled them off.
- 46:24Speaker 5: I mean some of the coaches. I always thought that.
- 46:26Speaker 3: Those like early two thousands Dolphins teams had a chance,
- 46:30Speaker 3: but they never found the quarterback like Ricky Willie. J
- 46:33Speaker 3: Fiedler was Dolphins, like those teams had talent and has
- 46:37Speaker 3: never found the quarterback that could compete.
- 46:39Speaker 6: Yeah, the combination of Dave Wantstead and Jay Fiedler just
- 46:42Speaker 6: really I'm just I'm being.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Honest, Like they were good. It's right, that was a
- 46:46Speaker 1: good team. They just weren't good enough.
- 46:48Speaker 3: I feel like we've revisioned his history of that team
- 46:50Speaker 3: because they had that was.
- 46:51Speaker 1: A good team that always fell short in a big game.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I'll give you I'll give you an example of psychological
- 46:57Speaker 2: effect hurting the Patriots. So back when Ryan was the
- 47:00Speaker 2: head coach of the Jets and he had that call
- 47:02Speaker 2: out to his fans to make a lot of noise,
- 47:05Speaker 2: the Patriots overthought that game to the point where they
- 47:08Speaker 2: came out with what they called grease boards. They were
- 47:10Speaker 2: little whiteboards, and they weren't gonna, you know, use verbal signals.
- 47:15Speaker 1: They were gonna write them on these little grease boards.
- 47:18Speaker 2: And as soon as I saw that, I said, we're
- 47:19Speaker 2: gonna lose this game because we're overthinking. I mean, they're
- 47:23Speaker 2: not gonna be any louder than the loudest you've ever
- 47:26Speaker 2: seen in a stadium.
- 47:27Speaker 1: So just don't go out of your normal practices. Stick
- 47:31Speaker 1: with it. And they lost the.
- 47:33Speaker 6: Game, and Isaiah stand back taking significant reps in that game. Offensively,
- 47:38Speaker 6: we were short handed a little bit too well. I
- 47:41Speaker 6: think Welcome missed that game and Edelman had a good game,
- 47:44Speaker 6: if I recall, but that was it was one of
- 47:48Speaker 6: those games like sixteen to nine.
- 47:49Speaker 2: But the grease boards and they never brought him back.
- 47:51Speaker 2: You never saw you never saw grease boards use a game.
- 47:55Speaker 2: I mean, that was the one time I got a
- 47:56Speaker 2: question for you guys.
- 47:57Speaker 4: You talk about Tom Brady and that shred running the dynasty.
- 48:01Speaker 4: If you're a team in the AFC East, you have
- 48:03Speaker 4: to you have no choice but to try to stack
- 48:05Speaker 4: up obviously, unless you're tanking, which a lot of them
- 48:07Speaker 4: failed to do most years. Do you feel that way
- 48:09Speaker 4: about Josh Allen right now? Have you the past couple
- 48:12Speaker 4: of years with the way he's thought about around the league.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Does he have that effect or are you not as
- 48:17Speaker 1: worried I do?
- 48:18Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, Mahomes, Like in the AFC, in particularly,
- 48:22Speaker 6: you have all these quarterbacks Mahomes, Allen, Jackson. If you
- 48:27Speaker 6: can't compete Borrow, if you can't compete with those guys offensively,
- 48:30Speaker 6: you can't win.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Yeah, well, unless.
- 48:32Speaker 6: You can develop a defense that can shut those guys down,
- 48:35Speaker 6: which I haven't really seen.
- 48:36Speaker 1: I think the difference between Josh Allen and Brady though,
- 48:39Speaker 1: is not on Brady's level, let's not get ridiculous, but
- 48:42Speaker 1: in terms of the psychological effect.
- 48:44Speaker 2: Josh Allen, you were worried about his physical tools, like
- 48:48Speaker 2: him getting out of the pocket and extending plays and
- 48:51Speaker 2: things like that. Brady, you're more worried about him figuring
- 48:55Speaker 2: out what you're doing and picking you apart.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Yep, you know a little bit different.
- 48:59Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, if we didn't have Drake May
- 49:01Speaker 2: right now, I mean, Josh Allen would be enemy number one,
- 49:04Speaker 2: you know, He's he'd be the reason why we can't
- 49:07Speaker 2: compete in the a f C East.
- 49:09Speaker 1: But now we've got a quarters reason for five years. Yeah,
- 49:12Speaker 1: last year key Beatlem. Now we've got our quarterback.
- 49:15Speaker 3: I would agree with Paul, though I don't think it's
- 49:17Speaker 3: just Josh Allen. I think it's the collection of quarterbacks
- 49:19Speaker 3: in the A.
- 49:20Speaker 5: They're also different, right, Like it's just you know, Brady
- 49:23Speaker 5: and Manning were you know, kind of similar styles. But
- 49:26Speaker 5: I don't know, it's it's just just to focus on
- 49:28Speaker 5: Josh Allen's tough because what about Lamar Jackson?
- 49:30Speaker 3: Do you know, like on this feeling they're going to
- 49:33Speaker 3: make it through the AFC tournament if you don't have
- 49:36Speaker 3: an elite quarterback because you're going to play an elite
- 49:38Speaker 3: quarterback at some point. You're going to play even last
- 49:41Speaker 3: year even though they played didn't play super League, Like Justin.
- 49:45Speaker 7: Herbert is a really good quarterback. Justin Herbert and you
- 49:48Speaker 7: have Lamar and you have.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Allen Mirabel the best part of this right here, we're
- 49:55Speaker 2: going to get hurt of it if gay back is
- 49:57Speaker 2: at all less than one hundred.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Rabel is laying hands right now, so he's going to
- 50:02Speaker 1: be fine.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Right If I'm a Patrios fan, though not to go
- 50:05Speaker 3: all like like fanboy, but like doesn't this is awes,
- 50:08Speaker 3: Like this is what you want to see you drafted
- 50:10Speaker 3: this like raw physical specimen at outside linebacker. That's a
- 50:15Speaker 3: Patriot Hall of Famer, your head coach. Now he's you know,
- 50:17Speaker 3: got hands on him. As Paul's likes to say, and
- 50:20Speaker 3: like you, Akus is, things that he needs to work
- 50:23Speaker 3: on are coachable. They are coachable.
- 50:25Speaker 1: We talked about this yesterday. I thought you made a
- 50:27Speaker 1: good point on this. Ready.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Yeah, the advantage that Akis has is Rabel was exactly
- 50:32Speaker 2: where Akus is right now, second round pick, you know,
- 50:36Speaker 2: trying to catch on uh. Akus might actually get more
- 50:40Speaker 2: play than Rabel did when he was with Pittsburgh with
- 50:42Speaker 2: the with the ones. But but this is he Rabel's
- 50:47Speaker 2: been there. He can relate and and the stuff that
- 50:50Speaker 2: he has to say to Akis is going to resonate.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:53Speaker 5: Well, I mean I think, I mean, I'm amazed with
- 50:55Speaker 5: Mike Frable's ability to coach the whole team. I mean,
- 50:58Speaker 5: he seems to, you know, have experience with every position group.
- 51:00Speaker 5: But this is his bread and butter. I mean, this
- 51:02Speaker 5: is what he did. What I'm sure you know, I
- 51:04Speaker 5: think we all if you play a sport, you're there's
- 51:06Speaker 5: always a special like I like a lefty defenseman in
- 51:08Speaker 5: hockey always got a special place in my heart.
- 51:10Speaker 1: That's what I played. U outside linebackers, set in the edge.
- 51:14Speaker 5: These are all things that Mike made Mike Rabel a
- 51:16Speaker 5: Hall of Famer, so hopefully ReBs off.
- 51:18Speaker 4: What helps a guy like this too, is when you're
- 51:19Speaker 4: behind you, you missed a ton of the summer.
- 51:21Speaker 1: You relate to camp.
- 51:22Speaker 4: When you have a head coach that's invested in you,
- 51:24Speaker 4: showing he's invested in you, trying to make you better.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Catch up to speed.
- 51:28Speaker 4: I feel like there's probably a lot of uncertainty when
- 51:30Speaker 4: you come in like that, you probably feel behind the
- 51:32Speaker 4: eight ball. When you have a head coach doing that
- 51:33Speaker 4: with you, you probably feel right at home.
- 51:35Speaker 2: We loved it when Belichick used to do it with players.
- 51:38Speaker 2: You know, now he didn't have the playing experience that
- 51:41Speaker 2: that Vrabel had, but when he would go one on one,
- 51:44Speaker 2: we would you know, oh, look.
- 51:46Speaker 1: At Belichick, he's one on one with a receiver.
- 51:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys did used to do that. I do agree.
- 51:51Speaker 1: I do agree that Fred Mike Rabel does it.
- 51:53Speaker 6: And that's why I thought the point that Fred made yesterday,
- 51:57Speaker 6: it is a very similar situation.
- 52:00Speaker 1: I think Mike is bigger than Accis.
- 52:03Speaker 6: And the problem Forrabel had in Pittsburgh, which is kind
- 52:06Speaker 6: of overblown now because he was such a good Patriot,
- 52:08Speaker 6: Like he was behind guys that were like borderline Hall
- 52:11Speaker 6: of famers. I mean that they had a stacked like
- 52:13Speaker 6: the Bill Cowerd defenses of the late nineties where no joke,
- 52:18Speaker 6: you know, and Greg Lloyd and those guys like they
- 52:21Speaker 6: were pretty good. So it was not like they just
- 52:23Speaker 6: they had this guy and they didn't know what he was.
- 52:25Speaker 6: You know, he was a situational player on defense and
- 52:28Speaker 6: a special teamer. And then he came to a team
- 52:30Speaker 6: that didn't have Greg Lloyd in front of him and
- 52:33Speaker 6: those kinds of guys, and he started and he became
- 52:35Speaker 6: a really good player for the Patriots. That's what Accus
- 52:38Speaker 6: is going to get, probably the opportunity to play more
- 52:40Speaker 6: right away because he's trying to beat out Elijah Ponder, Kenny.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Chesney's going to run some seven on seven's.
- 52:47Speaker 5: Ready to cover somebody, you know with What's popped up
- 52:50Speaker 5: to me though consistently on this camp is the Mike
- 52:53Speaker 5: Rabel gave back as kind of relationship. And you know,
- 52:55Speaker 5: I remember the players talking about how when acis finally
- 52:58Speaker 5: arrived able having him get up and stead.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Uh.
- 53:00Speaker 1: We're seeing a lot of footage of him one on one.
- 53:02Speaker 5: We you know, we heard him in the press conference
- 53:05Speaker 5: yesterday talking about you know, Akus and his performance in
- 53:08Speaker 5: the game or sorry, I guess that was probably Monday.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Uh you know.
- 53:10Speaker 5: So I just it seems to me that Mike Vrabel
- 53:13Speaker 5: has a very clear eye on Gay Accus and knows
- 53:17Speaker 5: how important he's going to be to this team, and
- 53:20Speaker 5: he's giving him, you know, some tough love.
- 53:22Speaker 2: I think if we're sitting here wondering where the pressure
- 53:25Speaker 2: is gonna come from, you know, the coaches are too.
- 53:28Speaker 5: So yeah, well that's what it speaks to me. Yeah,
- 53:30Speaker 5: it's that's exactly it. It's you know, we're gonna need
- 53:33Speaker 5: this kid, and I got to be all over him,
- 53:35Speaker 5: like as my dad likes to say, white on Rice
- 53:37Speaker 5: every day, making sure that he's getting the details down. Uh,
- 53:41Speaker 5: you know, And to Evan's point that, I think that's
- 53:43Speaker 5: what it is. You know, it's the details that this kid,
- 53:45Speaker 5: you know, needs to learn and have the game start
- 53:47Speaker 5: to slow down.
- 53:48Speaker 1: The owner with Kenny Chesney just earlier, Yeah you are,
- 53:51Speaker 1: I know this.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Is probably I overrate this a little bit, But like
- 53:54Speaker 3: evaluating players in the trenches too, I do put a
- 53:57Speaker 3: little bit of stock of Mike Rabel working them out.
- 54:00Speaker 3: I think that they've had a little bit of success
- 54:02Speaker 3: here and we'll see with Akis. But like having Rabel's
- 54:05Speaker 3: playing experience and knowing what it feels like when a
- 54:08Speaker 3: guy puts your hands on you, and knowing how strong
- 54:10Speaker 3: that feels, and how an NFL player's like core and
- 54:14Speaker 3: grip strength should be, and then being able to like
- 54:18Speaker 3: pop check off those types of players in the draft
- 54:20Speaker 3: process and things like that. I think that that is
- 54:23Speaker 3: important and I think that that does help them in
- 54:26Speaker 3: terms of drafting.
- 54:27Speaker 4: While we're on the Mike Rabel effect, I want to
- 54:29Speaker 4: bring up the running back room.
- 54:30Speaker 1: If that's okay with you, guys.
- 54:31Speaker 4: Got I think that that okay with you got so
- 54:37Speaker 4: last year showed you that this is a place you
- 54:39Speaker 4: can come if you're looking for a fresh start in
- 54:41Speaker 4: this league. And Mike Rabel, if he's willing to give
- 54:44Speaker 4: the opportunity, you can have that opportunity under Vrabel, A
- 54:46Speaker 4: guy like Hassan Haskins, it makes me excited to see
- 54:49Speaker 4: him potentially in that third running back role, a guy
- 54:51Speaker 4: who is a great athlete. He was all big ten
- 54:54Speaker 4: at Michigan, had a great college career, hasn't necessarily found
- 54:57Speaker 4: his way in the NFL quite yet. Is that fair
- 55:00Speaker 4: to assume that he's a guy who could you know,
- 55:02Speaker 4: have the little Mike Rabel magic to him and having
- 55:06Speaker 4: a role on this team this year.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Well, he's I think he has a chance to make
- 55:09Speaker 3: the team. But he was drafted by Rabel and Tennessee.
- 55:11Speaker 3: So this is a guy that he has a lot
- 55:14Speaker 3: of familiarity with and they drafted him in the fourth
- 55:16Speaker 3: round and invested in him and it didn't really pan
- 55:19Speaker 3: out with the Titans.
- 55:20Speaker 7: So another one of those guys for.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Rabel, and we got a slew of him now that
- 55:24Speaker 3: are have connections to him from Tennessee. But he's the
- 55:28Speaker 3: type of running back you know, downhill back, power back,
- 55:32Speaker 3: special teams to add, you know, like those are the
- 55:34Speaker 3: types of things that you're gonna make the team.
- 55:36Speaker 7: As a third running back. That's how you're gonna make it.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Well, you know, and you talk about effects, you have
- 55:42Speaker 2: to talk about Bill Belichick. You know, Mike Rabel grew
- 55:45Speaker 2: up with Mike Bill Belichick as his coach and heard
- 55:49Speaker 2: every preseason it's not about where you came from, It's
- 55:52Speaker 2: about what you do once you're here. And I would
- 55:55Speaker 2: imagine that hearing that every year from Bill Belichick kind
- 55:59Speaker 2: of rupped off a little bit.
- 56:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I just think it's good coaching, you know, it's
- 56:03Speaker 5: just letting guys compete and not having any preconceived notions
- 56:06Speaker 5: of how good or talented players are. I just say
- 56:09Speaker 5: on Haskins, I think the kickoff returner spot is a
- 56:12Speaker 5: great thing for him, Like that's a great spot for him.
- 56:14Speaker 1: At the other side of the covering kids.
- 56:16Speaker 6: I think he's a big physical player, and I think
- 56:19Speaker 6: that lends itself to Yeah, I would agree.
- 56:21Speaker 1: I agree with And.
- 56:22Speaker 5: It's kind of like he can you don't really care
- 56:25Speaker 5: if he gets hurt, you know what I mean. Like
- 56:26Speaker 5: he's kind of that like sacrificial guy, you know, you know,
- 56:29Speaker 5: just you get him late in camp, but it looks
- 56:31Speaker 5: like he's got some ability, and you know, it gives
- 56:33Speaker 5: you that peace of mind that you're not going to have.
- 56:35Speaker 1: To stick gets hurt.
- 56:37Speaker 6: I mean, it's not like a left handed defenseman that's
- 56:41Speaker 6: not quite good enough for PP one, but maybe he's
- 56:43Speaker 6: a fit for P twos.
- 56:46Speaker 5: Right, No, but I you know, it's look, I think
- 56:49Speaker 5: he's looked pretty good. I like, you know, it seems
- 56:51Speaker 5: like he's got size and he's gotten hit in the
- 56:53Speaker 5: backfield a couple of times and he spins out of it.
- 56:55Speaker 5: But you know, just I don't know who was going
- 56:57Speaker 5: to play that kickoff returner role, and it seems like
- 56:59Speaker 5: he might be able to do it and give you,
- 57:01Speaker 5: you know, just saving guys you don't have to worry about.
- 57:03Speaker 5: All right, we got to put Henderson out there or
- 57:05Speaker 5: you know, I still like to see Kyle Williams in that.
- 57:07Speaker 5: I don't know if he's got the sturdiness to handle
- 57:09Speaker 5: kickoff returns, but I like it's.
- 57:11Speaker 1: Sticking with special teams.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Jeff and Virginia rights in are we small Sea or
- 57:16Speaker 2: Big Sea?
- 57:16Speaker 1: Concerned about Brendan's schooler not being out there yet? Small season? Yeah, yeah, small.
- 57:22Speaker 7: I thought we were going both.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Small because it's special teams, are small Sea because it's
- 57:27Speaker 2: Brenton schooler.
- 57:29Speaker 6: Not because it's Brendon's schooler. Yeah, Like that's no disrespect.
- 57:33Speaker 6: I just want to clarify special teams.
- 57:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, I think he'll be back, but he
- 57:37Speaker 5: is the leader of the special teams, right, Yeah, he's
- 57:39Speaker 5: a very good player on special teams. I think they
- 57:42Speaker 5: are better team with him and I I just I
- 57:44Speaker 5: don't think it's going to be a season long thing.
- 57:45Speaker 5: I mean we we've caught glimpses of them here and there,
- 57:47Speaker 5: so I think he'll be back sooner.
- 57:49Speaker 7: Come the Eagles.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Here come the Eagles. Okay, like stormtroopers and.
- 57:55Speaker 5: They all white Thunderdome. Welcome to Thunderdome. Yeah, is that
- 57:58Speaker 5: from Green Bay? That was that was cool?
- 58:00Speaker 1: Yeah? I don't know that's a that's a public enemy,
- 58:03Speaker 1: sung Paul. I know what, So didn't you say it?
- 58:06Speaker 1: Because the Green Bank was like coming out terd Is
- 58:09Speaker 1: it Minnesota?
- 58:10Speaker 2: And again sticking with special teams? How was Bora Gallis's
- 58:13Speaker 2: day yesterday?
- 58:14Speaker 1: Good? Good ending?
- 58:14Speaker 5: I mean hit two fifty plus they missed one, yeah,
- 58:18Speaker 5: Dot a couple a couple missed one.
- 58:20Speaker 6: Yeah, but he did make the two at the end
- 58:22Speaker 6: of the.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Long ones.
- 58:26Speaker 7: He's missing. He keeps hooking it.
- 58:28Speaker 3: He's missing right to left consistently right, which I think
- 58:31Speaker 3: is in some ways, in a weird way, kind of
- 58:34Speaker 3: encouraging because it's clearly something mechanical that like once he
- 58:37Speaker 3: gets centered again, like he'll probably be fine, It's not
- 58:40Speaker 3: like he doesn't have enough leg or anything like that.
- 58:42Speaker 3: It's like he keeps me missing marginally wide left. So
- 58:46Speaker 3: obviously I think he, you know, is swinging maybe too
- 58:49Speaker 3: hard and he's.
- 58:50Speaker 7: Just kind of yanking the ball. I don't know what
- 58:52Speaker 7: it is. I I don't.
- 58:53Speaker 2: I mean, there are some kickers that do that on purpose.
- 58:56Speaker 2: They like to use a little bit of spin draw
- 58:59Speaker 2: to kind of.
- 59:00Speaker 5: Control it at calling your golf game, right, recollect to
- 59:04Speaker 5: call it a power fade.
- 59:07Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's it is interesting that all three of
- 59:10Speaker 3: the kicks in the preseason game and the two kicks
- 59:12Speaker 3: that were that were ify yesterday wide left, all five
- 59:15Speaker 3: of them wide left. So it's obviously a mechanical thing
- 59:18Speaker 3: that he's got to figure out.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Yep.
- 59:21Speaker 6: I will say that the kicks look better like the
- 59:24Speaker 6: ones in the game. We're not, you know, well struck.
- 59:28Speaker 6: They were going sideways. A couple of them mishits exactly.
- 59:31Speaker 2: So.
- 59:32Speaker 1: Uh.
- 59:32Speaker 6: Since they've been back to practice and Rabel talked about
- 59:35Speaker 6: the operation being back together with Ashby back in uniform,
- 59:40Speaker 6: maybe that did have a little impact on him.
- 59:42Speaker 1: You know.
- 59:42Speaker 6: It's it's such a tenuous thing with with kickers, and
- 59:46Speaker 6: it is you know, you guys are.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Talking about golf game. It is kind of like golf.
- 59:49Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that swing can be very tenuous and something
- 59:53Speaker 6: as minor you you think, as the long snapper, being
- 59:56Speaker 6: different does kind of get in a guy's head.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Sometimes. I think he's looked more normal in practice since
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the game.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: I agree with that. That's why I brought up the
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: swing of his leg. And maybe he's like over kicking
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: the ball and that's why the ball is hooking because
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: like that, I think it's a lot more I guess,
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: like reassuring that it's the same miss every time, like
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: if he was spraying the ball all over the place.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: I agree, you know, justin Rorosser's style, you'd be like, oh,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: but the fact that it's the same kind of miss
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: hit the.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Bullet a couple of times. I think that's a mechanical thing.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: So they get right to it. Huh A J Brown
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: with a one on one touchdown catch.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: We're doing, we're doing. Maybe we can zoom out a
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: little bit and see it, uh?
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Or can we not? We're allowed to film this period.
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: So it strike touchdown Hunter Henry with a win right there?
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Okay, Jack, you can be our eyes perfect okay.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: Just only good stuff though, please, there we go, there
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: we go.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Pop Douglas.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: So yeah, it seems like we're not to marry a
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Pop Douglas pop already. Yeah's have speed.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: Yep, that doesn't all the excitement from the crowd though,
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: that this might as well be a real game.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you guys, what you guys are
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: talking about.
- 1:01:12Speaker 4: Yes, shows this is an offensive drill, just like one
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: on ones, just like one on ones in the trenches
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: are defensive drill. This is absolutely you want to see
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: your offense winning this.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Yeah, you know it.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: It's I mean, obviously they're they're close to the end
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: zone now, so probably a theme of red zone today.
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Thinks are gonna be tighter.
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be a good challenge, you know,
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: for Drake and the offense to really be tight on
- 1:01:33Speaker 5: their operation sticking the ball into some tight holes.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: It's it's gonna be a little bit more difficult today.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I'm I'm I'm really getting excited about him. Yeah, you know,
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: as a pass catcher obviously, but he's he's performed, he's performed, so.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: I just wonder what's gonna look like when you get
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: to the regar season. Of course, you know, how much
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: are they gonna feel comfortable putting them out there, But if.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: They don't do it when they're puppies, they won't do
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: it when they're done. So you got to do it
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: in camp too.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, Jalen pultated in camp too.
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: So that was one of the lessons I've learned over
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: the years of you know, a guy can have a
- 1:02:09Speaker 5: great camp and catch a bunch of.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Balls and it's not to be.
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: But look, all you can ask the kid is to
- 1:02:15Speaker 5: keep showing up and making plays. And you know, I
- 1:02:17Speaker 5: don't think it's been perfect, but he's certainly not on
- 1:02:20Speaker 5: the sideliness, hurt or any of those kind of things
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: that you know, set these guys back and they're never
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: able to get on track if you're out here every day.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: It's just it's positive that he can stack some of
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: these things.
- 1:02:30Speaker 5: And yeah, we'll see where he's at once the regular
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: season gets here.
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: Going back to that, you know that little interaction we
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: saw with Rabel and Acus, you know earlier when our
- 1:02:40Speaker 6: cameras picked up Vrabel and Rarit, it was was talking
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: to him for a little bit, so you know, obviously
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: a little extra time for the draft class, you know,
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: the rookies. I understand that Mike Vrabel has to worry
- 1:02:52Speaker 6: about ninety one guys out there, but you know that
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: he's thinking, Okay, these are guys that are really important,
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: you know, spending a little extra time with them.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I like to see that, and I do. I Fred.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: I've been high on Rared and since they drafted him,
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: like Notlayers, I don't love that lie, but I like
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: the skill set of the profile, like, you know, a
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: sort of a big play, tight end kind of guy
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: averaged as Evan says, over sixteen yards a catch, you know,
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: or fourteen yards a catch, I forget which one.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: Last year at Notre Dame.
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: I like that kind of of a skill set, and
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: I think that if you can plug that in to
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: Austin Hooper's catches last year, Austin Hooper made a number
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: of memorable plays, even though we have later.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I think that's all you're going to.
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: Get out of I don't think you're going to get
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: much more than that out of rarat it, but I
- 1:03:44Speaker 6: think you might be thinking about them and if if
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: he leaks out the backside and he's and he's open
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: for one of those they missed one of these in
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: the Super Bowl that I think could have been a
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: big play, and Drake overthrew Hooper. He's going to be
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: able to, I think, get down the sideline for bigger
- 1:03:58Speaker 6: gains than than Hooper was k ve at that stage
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: of his career.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: So I share your enthusiasm on rare it in Okay.
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: The fun part to me too is having a J.
- 1:04:06Speaker 5: Brown and Dobbs really starting to click. And what's it
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: going to mean for these other receivers, you know, how
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: much less coverage are they going to see? How much
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: easier are things going to be, you know, for Pop Douglas,
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: for maybe even Hunter Henry a little bit. But I
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: think they'll key off Hunter Henry too, so maybe that
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: opens up things for rarated.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I'm so excited for Pop Douglas this year.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: I think having those two weapons on the outside and
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: Dobbs and Brown is gonna free him up in the middle.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: And I'm very and I feel like if it's not
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: this year, or when is it gonna be for to
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: Mario Douglas.
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: Yeah, well that's a contract year for him. He's had
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: a good camp, you know. I just I'll be interested
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: to see how he does this year. How it translates
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: to next year. I mean, I I mean, based on
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: the camp, it's a guy that I would really consider
- 1:04:44Speaker 5: trying to keep around. I think he's a good complimentary piece.
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: You got aj Brown here, Hopefully he sticks around. You
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: got a four year deal with Dobbs. You know, I'm
- 1:04:51Speaker 5: having a button hook you here. Yeah, I'm gonna go
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: all Freddy. I'm thinking a Julian Edelman.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, you give him a couple of years
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: and all of a sudden year three year four, he's
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: he to sort of step.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: In for Welker. Yeah, maybe that's after Chisholm. That's what
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Edelman did.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: You know, Maybe maybe next year, if you're not able
- 1:05:07Speaker 6: to re sign Douglas, maybe you get the leap out
- 1:05:11Speaker 6: of the.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Only difference I would say between Edelman and Chisholm is more.
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: Durable, well, but earlier in his career until right, I
- 1:05:22Speaker 6: don't then found things.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: I think part of the story too, that with with
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: with Pop Douglas is that I think we kind of
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: had him miscast in our minds as that shifty slot
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: short you know, whip routes underneath stuff, ditching guys, you know,
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: and I we started to see last year they started
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: put him down the field a little bit more.
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: He can shake loose, he can make some explosive plays.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: And it's a question I.
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: Want to ask Josh to just always to ask about,
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: you know, how hard is for players to learn his
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: system and adjust to what he does. How much does
- 1:05:52Speaker 5: he adjust to the players? Is he learns them and
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: their skill sets? And you know how does he then?
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: You know A J.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: Brown said it yesterday that Josh is putting him making
- 1:06:00Speaker 5: his job easier, putting him in position, you know, take
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: advantage of matchups.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: When he starts to do that with Pop Douglas a
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: little bit more, does you know does that open up
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: him and make him more productive? Yeah? I think he
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: did that Pop a little bit last year.
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: I keep on going back to that play.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: He made against the Saints, you know, the big play
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: down the field in New Orleans. You know, he had
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: a month long stretch there whereas a dot Paul was like,
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: well over twenty yards.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: That's average depth of tar.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I appreciate thatated well over twenty yards in an attempt.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: They're throwing a bombs away down the field to him.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: And I wrote about it and he said that, you
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: know at Liberty. That's what he did. He was a
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: double move, speed, slot down the field kind of player
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: in college, and that's like kind of where he feels comfortable,
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: and then the underneath stuff was something that he was
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: adapting to.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: I think we've seen similar things with Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: I think Romeo Dobbs had minor shifts in his route
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: tree have gone on this summer too, where I think
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: he's playing more on the outside and they're targeting in
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: more on angular routes and not so much in the slot,
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: and you know some of those creative digs routes that
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: we saw last year. So I think that there's a
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: lot of feeling out going on with all those guys.
- 1:07:08Speaker 7: But there's no.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: Doubt that Pop is at his best when he's getting
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: more vertical down the field and not the underneath stuff.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: Yeah, if he doesn't take a leap, is that someone
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: you're worried about walking or in the off season or well,
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: if he doesn't take a leap, then no, yeah, right right,
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: If he has a bad year.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: Then I want to Yeah, no, I mean, I I
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: think it's you know, they got some decisions to make.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: I'd be interested to see what they do you know
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: with Matt Collins. Yeah, you know as well in Kaishan Boody,
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: is is he sticking around? I know there was no
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: speculation yesterday, Jaden Higgins.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: There we go, there's there's a seventh round pick.
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: Right, so we uh so maybe take the Will Anderson
- 1:07:41Speaker 5: for Kayshan Boody in a six round pick?
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: You know, like I do that. I consider that, Yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: fifth reasonable? You know what the Patriots wouldn't. I feel
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: very fifty million.
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: I feel as though I want nothing to do with
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: trading Kaishan Boody to an AFC contender. It might just
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: be superstition of me. I get that, But the last
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: thing that I want is a trade.
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: Well, then you don't want to trade him because you
- 1:08:08Speaker 6: think he's good and he's going to affect.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: I think he's good enough that I don't want to
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: trade him to Houston. And then they're playing them in
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: the divisional round and he's mossing somebody on the.
- 1:08:16Speaker 7: Patriots, Like.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: I go send him out to San Francisco there everybody's
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: dropping like flies over there, Like, send him, you know,
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: out west somewhere.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I mean, if I had my options, you know, a
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: team that I'm not going.
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: To play sure, but I just heard the lot. If
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: I have someone that wants to give me something for him,
- 1:08:33Speaker 6: I would give it. I would absolutely make it.
- 1:08:35Speaker 7: I just heard.
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: You know, now Houston's getting brought up, Kansas City has
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: gotten brought up even like in the division to Buffalo. Like, no, no, no, no,
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: we're not helping any one of those teams.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: All right, guys, we're gonna be wrapping it up shortly.
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: Final thoughts anyone.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Excited for another? I mean this last day of training camp.
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: I hope the Patriots can stack a second day have
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: the same kind of performance, especially for the offense.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: Protect Drake. May he do that? I think think all
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: the other problems are going to sort themselves out.
- 1:09:02Speaker 6: Okay, that's a good, good bow that you just tied
- 1:09:05Speaker 6: on that right there, Mike, Thank you.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: You should be that effective in the camp casts. I try.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: It just doesn't work for some reason, instead of letting
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Evan have to do all the work. Wow, I'm to shine.
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: I know we got to go. But some one on
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: one notes notes.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: I saw j Brown catching awful a lot of passes.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: I was not tracking that Will Campbell one and one
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: against Jalen's hunt. Same as yesterday I had Caleb Lomu
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: as one on one as well against a J. Eppen
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: As a nice showing by Demetrius Crown over three and
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: oh all three wins for him there as well. Jared
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: Wilson looked good again, but Jalax Hunt's given Campbell a
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: little bit of problem on the edge in these last
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: two days.
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: Brod.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: The word of the day is execution. I think with
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: a day a full practice of film on tape. They
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: watched it yesterday afternoon, they're making adjustments. I think the
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: Patriots can come out today execute have a good practice.
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Should make you feel really good as a Patriot fan.
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: Okay, well, listen, it's been fun day two of the
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: joint practice. We're going to be saying goodbye, but you're
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: gonna have the camp cast after after practice and as
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: far you know, Verish Strong on Patriots dot com, we'll
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: have plenty of content there and as far Patriots Unfiltered,
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: we will see.
