- 0:04Speaker 1: Mark Simone Show. Now nine till noon weekdays.
- 0:10Speaker 2: 710WOR.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hey, let's take some calls. 800-321-0710 is the number. Let's
- 0:17Speaker 1: go to Marshall in Jacksonville, Florida. Marshall, how you doing?
- 0:22Speaker 3: I'm doing good, Mark. Mark, I really enjoy your show,
- 0:24Speaker 3: and I thank you for all that you bring to
- 0:26Speaker 3: the airwaves. I know that you had a relationship with
- 0:29Speaker 3: Don Imus. I'm wondering why, since the passing of Don Imus,
- 0:33Speaker 3: there's been no book, there's been no documentary, there's been
- 0:37Speaker 3: no miniseries, nothing. Do you have any word on why.
- 0:41Speaker 1: That's the case? That's a good question. Well, Don Imus
- 0:45Speaker 1: wrote a couple books himself. There has been a book
- 0:49Speaker 1: or two about Imus written, but not in recent years. Well,
- 0:55Speaker 1: to do a documentary, you'd have to find people to
- 0:57Speaker 1: say nice things about him.
- 1:01Speaker 3: You remember when he left, he said he was going
- 1:02Speaker 3: away to write his autobiography, and then not very long
- 1:05Speaker 3: after that, he passed. And I wonder if there were
- 1:07Speaker 3: a lot of nondisclosure agreements out there, because there's been... No.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I mean, listen, we all loved Imus, and he was
- 1:14Speaker 1: a great, great pioneer. He was the first shock jock,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and he changed radio, and we all copied him like crazy.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But it could be difficult to be around.
- 1:24Speaker 4: He would.
- 1:25Speaker 1: pull a gun on people off the air. He would
- 1:27Speaker 1: yell and scream and, uh, carry on. Uh, it wasn't easy.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm editing. Well, I'm leaving out stuff here.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I can tell you're editing. Well, I sure appreciate that.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I'll tell you the good thing.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Go on YouTube and just type. I miss a million videos.
- 1:45Speaker 1: We'll come up. You can watch a million of his shows.
- 1:48Speaker 1: You can see lots of stuff with IMS. Just go
- 1:50Speaker 1: on YouTube and, uh, and, and watch him there. Uh, Yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 1: we miss him. I luckily didn't have to be around
- 2:01Speaker 1: him too much because I was always filling in for him.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I used to fill in for him. He used to
- 2:05Speaker 1: get a lot of vacation. Like 10 weeks a year,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I'd fill in for him. And there was, of course,
- 2:11Speaker 1: Charles McCord, who I don't think Charles would be on
- 2:13Speaker 1: the documentary either. And there was Rob Bartlett and all
- 2:18Speaker 1: those people. Dagan McDowell, who you can watch on Fox
- 2:22Speaker 1: Business now. Let's go to Tony in Manhattan. Tony, how
- 2:26Speaker 1: you doing?
- 2:27Speaker 4: I'm doing fine. Thank you, my friend. This is the
- 2:30Speaker 4: second time I call you.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Yes.
- 2:32Speaker 4: And I enjoy your show for a long time. You
- 2:36Speaker 4: took over from Geraldo.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I took over for who?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Geraldo.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Oh, Geraldo Rivera. Yeah. I took over for him 10
- 2:45Speaker 1: to noon.
- 2:47Speaker 4: And I told my wife that I took over for Geraldo?
- 2:52Speaker 1: I don't even remember that. I used to work with him.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I don't think I took.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Over for him. I remember that Geraldo used to have
- 2:59Speaker 4: a show, then he left, right? And then I started
- 3:02Speaker 4: listening to you, Maximon, and believing you are a one-man show.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Maybe my accent is not that good. We love your accent.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Where are you from?
- 3:10Speaker 4: I am from Puerto Rico.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Oh, no, we love your accent. It's a great accent.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You sound like a very nice man. What do you
- 3:17Speaker 1: do for a living, Tony?
- 3:20Speaker 4: I used to. I used to work in Kifu supermarket,
- 3:24Speaker 4: and I started as a porter, as a porter, and
- 3:27Speaker 4: I finished as a manager. And then I have retinitis pigmentosa,
- 3:32Speaker 4: you find it, retinitis pigmentosa from my mother. I have
- 3:37Speaker 4: a good talent to be a businessman, but I was
- 3:40Speaker 4: losing it slowly and slowly.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Well, you sound like a nice guy, Tony. Now, let
- 3:44Speaker 1: me ask you a question. Whenever I'm in the supermarket...
- 3:46Speaker 1: You see all these cashiers, but there's always one older guy.
- 3:49Speaker 1: He's clearly the manager, and he always looks totally frazzled.
- 3:53Speaker 1: He looks like it's the roughest job in the world.
- 3:56Speaker 1: He looks like it's nothing but trouble running a supermarket.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Because when I came to New York, I went to
- 4:02Speaker 4: the gym, YMCA, then I become a powerlifter, and I
- 4:08Speaker 4: went around the world. I have a triple crown. I
- 4:11Speaker 4: won in Europe. Wow. I will tell you a story.
- 4:18Speaker 4: If you can take it, listen. Tony Melendez powerlifting. The
- 4:24Speaker 4: story of Tony Melendez. Tony Melendez powerlifting.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Okay, well, we'll all Google it and look it up
- 4:30Speaker 1: and read your story.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You know why I want that? Because I am a
- 4:33Speaker 4: motivational speaker coming from Puerto Rico with asthma.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Well, Tony, you sound like a great guy. Proud to
- 4:41Speaker 1: have you in the audience. Thanks for listening. Call us again.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Let's go to Philip in Connecticut. Philip, how are you doing?
- 4:50Speaker 4: Hi, Mark.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm doing great. Just a quick question, comment about the
- 4:55Speaker 2: Supreme Court decision to recognize citizenship for for anybody born in,
- 5:01Speaker 2: you know, the United States. What do you think about
- 5:04Speaker 2: the idea that red states regulate the issuance of birth
- 5:09Speaker 2: certificates the way that blue states regulate the issuance of
- 5:13Speaker 2: gun permits?
- 5:14Speaker 3: You know, you can't even buy a.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Gun in some blue states.
- 5:17Speaker 1: You know? That's true.
- 5:18Speaker 2: With background checks.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And all that. Well, as you always argue, they should
- 5:22Speaker 1: do what the Democrats do, fight back that way. But
- 5:24Speaker 1: you don't want to become like them. Hey, where are
- 5:27Speaker 1: you in Connecticut?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Uh, right now I'm actually in Greenwich.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Oh, where are you going?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Uh, I'm heading to, uh.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I got it. You're making a house call. All right.
- 5:40Speaker 1: We won't pry any further. Good for you. All right.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Take care. Let's go to, uh, Jerry in Smith town. Jerry,
- 5:51Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 5:53Speaker 5: I'm doing fine. I wanted to bring out the fact that, um,
- 5:59Speaker 5: Brackman should bring out who? Hochul giving free medical attention
- 6:07Speaker 5: to prostitutes.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 5: This is tantamount to approving prostitution.
- 6:12Speaker 1: All right. This may be an issue that affects you personally,
- 6:15Speaker 1: so we understand your concern here. But I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 6:22Speaker 5: They're already on Medicaid. Most of them are on welfare.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Well, that's true. A lot of these prostitutes make a
- 6:28Speaker 1: lot of money. They can afford medical care. Hey, you're
- 6:31Speaker 1: in Smithtown. You ever go to that new restaurant, the Chaz?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Great restaurant?
- 6:36Speaker 5: I'm fully familiar with it.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Oh, I see. All right. You're one of those guys
- 6:40Speaker 1: at the bar when hitting on those women there, huh?
- 6:44Speaker 5: You got it.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Oh, okay. All right. That's a very good question.
- 6:47Speaker 5: And I really enjoy your show. It's a great.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Island of sense and good American.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Oh, when we come back, the brilliant writer, nobody better
- 7:04Speaker 1: on the economy, on the Fed. Now, how is the
- 7:10Speaker 1: economy of this country right now? If you're watching the
- 7:13Speaker 1: fake news, I'll convince you it's a terrible economy. What's
- 7:17Speaker 1: the real truth? We'll get to that coming up next.
- 7:21Speaker 1: John Carney will be with us. Bill O'Reilly's away. He's
- 7:24Speaker 1: on vacation.
