- 0:04Vipul Bindra: hey, geo, my friend.
- 0:05Vipul Bindra: Thanks for coming.
- 0:06Vipul Bindra: My friend, like I really appreciate you taking the time out of your you know day I know your schedule is very busy and coming here and talking to me my pleasure, man.
- 0:16Gio Mas: Uh, once you told me about the new project I was like you know what that sounds really fun well, thank you.
- 0:21Vipul Bindra: You know you, I've been talking about this for years.
- 0:23Vipul Bindra: Like I've said many times on this podcast, like the goal was, I found the most success just talking to other successful people and I just wanted so many times.
- 0:33Vipul Bindra: I've had incredible conversations with other people and you where I was like man.
- 0:37Vipul Bindra: If only this was recorded, this could help not only me but so many other people, right?
- 0:42Vipul Bindra: So the idea is just we're going to have a conversation we were going to have anyway, and if somebody finds some entertainment or value out of it, then you know, extra bonus right.
- 0:53Vipul Bindra: So again, thank you for coming.
- 0:54Vipul Bindra: We're just going to chat for a couple hours, just have fun.
- 0:56Vipul Bindra: And so I want to just catch up, first of all, what you've been up to, because last I knew you were working with me on so many projects, freelancing, doing your own thing, and now you're not.
- 1:07Vipul Bindra: Well, I don't know if you're still a freelancer, but you now you have multiple jobs.
- 1:11Vipul Bindra: So tell me about that transition and why you took it.
- 1:15Gio Mas: I mean, yeah, things have gotten crazy over the last couple of months, but for me to be closed.
- 1:22Gio Mas: So basically, yes, yes, like you were saying, we were working on multiple projects on a almost a daily basis, if not a weekly basis, um, and I learned a lot from that, from that time with you and we also.
- 1:32Gio Mas: The one thing I like about working with you is that, yeah, we work, but we also have fun and we never have any issues working with yeah, you know.
- 1:40Vipul Bindra: You know that's how it's supposed to be right?
- 1:41Vipul Bindra: Just have fun and create awesome content together.
- 1:44Vipul Bindra: Yeah, also a very seamless process, yeah, and clients experience that Clients feel that energy, that you know the crew's having fun.
- 1:50Vipul Bindra: Everything goes smoothly.
- 1:53Gio Mas: Yeah, but yeah.
- 1:54Gio Mas: So basically you know, after you know I was working with you, I found a new job.
- 1:58Gio Mas: I'm not going to say the name of the law firm.
- 2:01Vipul Bindra: That's okay.
- 2:10Gio Mas: I'm working at one of the largest litigation law firms in the country, oh I think we can guess the name, but we won't say it, that's okay, and I mean just because it's law.
- 2:13Gio Mas: I'm not gonna say anything.
- 2:14Gio Mas: But no, I mean so far the team there is just amazing and, like I said, since it's one of the, you know, largest nationally, there's like about like 46, 47 offices that is crazy Throughout the nation.
- 2:26Gio Mas: But here's the catch the marketing team is only five people.
- 2:29Gio Mas: So you can guess the amount of work and the amount of experience that I'm getting from that and I just love it because, like usually if somebody would tell me that I'd be scared, like I don't know man, that sounds a little bit too much.
- 2:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 2:45Gio Mas: But and this is where I'm going back to the example that I said it's kind of like working with you because the people there, they're like no drama.
- 2:49Vipul Bindra: No drama at all which is crazy to think about in a job environment.
- 2:51Vipul Bindra: But there's no drama, so that's I think you got lucky where that with that yeah, I got uh really lucky.
- 2:57Gio Mas: And also, um, my boss.
- 2:58Gio Mas: Shout out to my boss I don't know if he's seeing this, I'm not gonna say the name, just in case.
- 3:01Gio Mas: Yeah.
- 3:02Gio Mas: But no he's such a great person and funny story, you know, we both lived in Montana at some point, so I guess that helped out, you know.
- 3:11Gio Mas: But no, he's such a great mentor and he's so smart and he's one of those bosses that they actually care for your growth.
- 3:19Gio Mas: It's not like oh, I'm just going to hire you so you can do this, so I don't have to do it.
- 3:22Gio Mas: No, it's like they actually mentor you.
- 3:24Gio Mas: They give you all the resources possible, they value your ideas and they make sure that you're being heard yeah, no.
- 3:30Vipul Bindra: Plus I'm sure it's a such a learning experience anyway, because you're working, like you said, for one of the largest law firms and you're doing one of five people doing marketing there.
- 3:39Vipul Bindra: Uh, has to be very stressful, but also, uh, you know, you can learn quite a bit yeah definitely.
- 3:45Vipul Bindra: You can master your craft definitely so.
- 3:47Gio Mas: The way that job itself works, it's almost we like to see it as an agency work right, even though we're not it's uh, we're in-house, but basically there's like around a thousand attorneys right now no, sorry, a thousand employees about like 600 attorneys, attorneys.
- 4:02Gio Mas: So basically the way we work is we try to see each attorney as a client right so if we were an agency, they would be our clients and, trust me, they come up with a lot of requests that are all over the place I haven't seen any like.
- 4:18Gio Mas: I've seen a lot of things yeah uh, and yeah, mind you, like these people are like very important.
- 4:22Gio Mas: Yeah, like I said, some of them have events outside of the country.
- 4:26Gio Mas: They do talks, they do presentations, you know.
- 4:29Gio Mas: They do panels all around the world and I like that.
- 4:32Gio Mas: I like that because once you get to know these people in person, you can also learn from them, right, and yeah, I mean, the cool thing about this law firm is like going back to what I was saying it's it's not just a marketing team, but it's everything as a law firm.
- 4:46Gio Mas: They try to push you forward.
- 4:49Gio Mas: So the, the work culture is about like all about diversity, about career growth, about empowering employees to, you know, become more and more or like better at what they do so.
- 4:59Gio Mas: I love that.
- 5:00Gio Mas: I love that.
- 5:01Gio Mas: Like I said, I haven't had any issues with anyone.
- 5:02Gio Mas: I don't have any complaints, okay, and the team that I'm working with they're like phenomenal so what is your daily responsibilities like?
- 5:10Vipul Bindra: what are you kind of doing there?
- 5:12Gio Mas: yeah, so they were looking for somebody that would only that would replace the last employee that they had, but this employee would only do like one thing okay, which was what?
- 5:23Gio Mas: Uh, they would run the LinkedIn.
- 5:26Vipul Bindra: Okay.
- 5:27Gio Mas: The firm's LinkedIn.
- 5:28Gio Mas: And here's the thing.
- 5:29Gio Mas: So, yes, okay, so you might have all these social medias, but every single social media is a little bit different and you know that's not new, I feel like everybody knows that.
- 5:38Gio Mas: But LinkedIn, specifically, you really have to know your stuff.
- 5:43Gio Mas: Yeah, there's a lot of parameters and also the fact that it's a law firm, because when it comes to marketing, yes, it's all about like, okay, let's get creative, you know.
- 5:51Gio Mas: But for law, specifically, there are a lot of parameters that you cannot get out of those bounds, right?
- 5:59Gio Mas: So you have to stay within that frame.
- 6:01Gio Mas: And that's like the the tricky thing, right?
- 6:03Gio Mas: Because sometimes you don't know where the parameter is right, where the limit is.
- 6:08Gio Mas: So it's more about being logical with that, right?
- 6:11Gio Mas: Is this, does this?
- 6:13Gio Mas: Um, how would this look coming from a law firm, right?
- 6:17Gio Mas: So yeah, like I said, the last person was doing linkedin specifically, but they were not doing any graphic design, so they were all like being handed out the posts and she would just like write the copy, send it their way, that's it, right?
- 6:31Gio Mas: So they were looking for somebody to take on more tasks, so they hired me.
- 6:34Gio Mas: So I'm doing a little bit of graphic design for the LinkedIn.
- 6:38Gio Mas: Basically, linkedin is not my thing for them.
- 6:40Gio Mas: So I'm doing all the graphic design.
- 6:42Gio Mas: I'm doing, you know, know, post and all of that.
- 6:46Gio Mas: But and here's the cool thing, when I was going through the interview, you know, they always ask you hey, so this is what's going on right now, this is what we need, but what do you think we also need, right?
- 7:00Gio Mas: So one of the things I identified, right when I was doing all my research is OK, you guys are one of the largest law firms in the nation.
- 7:08Gio Mas: That means that you have a ton of attorneys.
- 7:11Gio Mas: Each person has a lot of value, a lot of knowledge.
- 7:14Gio Mas: Right, and from what I'm seeing right now on your LinkedIn, I don't think you're showing that to the full potential.
- 7:19Gio Mas: And also the LinkedIn itself yes, you guys are posting a lot, which is insane.
- 7:25Gio Mas: Um, they are one of the few law firms that I'm seeing like very active online.
- 7:30Gio Mas: But yeah, no, we post to minimum two times a day.
- 7:34Gio Mas: Right, but the content itself was not innovating, right?
- 7:40Gio Mas: So, yeah, they were doing like a lot of verdict alerts, which is basically when they win a case and they want to talk about it.
- 7:47Gio Mas: So all that, you know, every time they hire somebody else, etc.
- 7:51Gio Mas: Etc.
- 7:51Gio Mas: Right, right, but I feel like there was even more space to innovate.
- 7:55Gio Mas: So the way I started doing that was first I introduced video.
- 8:00Gio Mas: They were doing like video on very rare occasions, right, so I started doing more video for social and then playing around with the aspect ratio Right To see, okay, what looks better on LinkedIn If it's a square aspect ratio or if it's a 1080 by 1350, which is the one I'm using the most right now.
- 8:18Gio Mas: But yeah, I just started, you know, grabbing what they had and I kept thinking every single day that I came to work is okay, what else can I do?
- 8:26Gio Mas: how can I?
- 8:26Gio Mas: how can I innovate, how can I, you know, push these boundaries without breaking the parameters that I was talking about, right?
- 8:33Gio Mas: So so far we have had a good impact on social, on linkedin specifically, right.
- 8:39Gio Mas: Like I said, the amount of content that we're doing right now has become very diversified.
- 8:45Gio Mas: Okay, so yeah, go on.
- 8:47Vipul Bindra: No, I'm saying that's great man.
- 8:49Vipul Bindra: You've been rocking and I know how much I wanted you to stay in the freelance video world with me because I liked having you, like you said, on set You're fun.
- 8:56Vipul Bindra: We were creating good content together.
- 8:59Vipul Bindra: I knew always, because you know we talked about how many times about marketing together, so I knew that that is your thing.
- 9:06Vipul Bindra: You know you're obviously does you know you're good at video.
- 9:09Vipul Bindra: Doesn't mean that's what you wanted to continue doing, at least forever.
- 9:12Vipul Bindra: Marketing was your thing and so I'm so glad you found something that you wanted to do and you're happy there.
- 9:19Vipul Bindra: But I kind of miss you know.
- 9:23Vipul Bindra: You know you not having that job.
- 9:25Vipul Bindra: But also, if I remember hearing correctly, not only did you get that, you're doing another thing on the side right now.
- 9:34Gio Mas: Yes, and that's the.
- 9:36Gio Mas: I mean okay, so that one's a little bit more specialized when it comes to marketing.
- 9:41Gio Mas: So funny story when I started doing marketing I went to school, I went to Valencia College here in Orlando for digital media.
- 9:50Gio Mas: So, basically video production right, but I always liked it as a hobby.
- 9:54Gio Mas: I didn't want to fully pursue that right.
- 9:56Gio Mas: So at the same time that I was going through Valencia, I got an internship with a marketing office, a marketing agency at the time.
- 10:04Gio Mas: It's not open anymore, but, yeah, they offered it to me because they knew me and I was like I don't know what marketing is but I'll do it.
- 10:10Gio Mas: If you're going to pay me, I'll do it.
- 10:12Gio Mas: Which they were not paying me at all, because it was more like an internship.
- 10:17Gio Mas: But no, it's just once I started doing that, it's like you can see these doors open to a new world.
- 10:26Gio Mas: So I became really interested in marketing and all the different things that you can do with that.
- 10:29Gio Mas: I started with the SEO, which right now I think is the hardest part of marketing, or one of the hardest, I should say.
- 10:36Gio Mas: But yeah, it's so complicated.
- 10:38Gio Mas: So I was doing that for a few years like full time just SEO work, and then I had a really bad experience when I was freelancing for this one guy.
- 10:47Vipul Bindra: I had like the worst experience oh, you gotta tell us about that.
- 10:50Vipul Bindra: Oh, my god.
- 10:51Vipul Bindra: Okay, I mean, you're gonna have to tell us the name, but you know, I know the story, yeah I mean, I don't hold it against him.
- 10:57Gio Mas: I think, uh, I still have him on linkedin, but yeah, no, the guy is like he.
- 11:00Gio Mas: Okay, he was great, he was really smart, he knew everything about seo and and he had just opened his agency.
- 11:07Gio Mas: So they were like, it was him, one other guy.
- 11:09Gio Mas: And then they hired me so it was a startup, right yeah and that was right after college so I was excited, um, but yeah, I was with him.
- 11:17Gio Mas: I was working freelance part-time for like a month and a half two months, um, and I learned a lot from him.
- 11:24Gio Mas: Like every everything technical, you know, on-page SEO, technical SEO, a little bit of everything right.
- 11:29Gio Mas: And he was, like I said, he was really smart, surprisingly smart.
- 11:33Gio Mas: It's like one of those people that you know, they know their stuff.
- 11:36Gio Mas: But you know, throughout the weeks that we were working together, I just started seeing like a pattern, right.
- 11:42Gio Mas: So at first I thought that it was just him joking around, because when you meet a new person, you don't know how they joke around, yeah.
- 11:52Gio Mas: So I thought that he was joking at first, but then I noticed that he had like a very bad personality joking about what like so once since.
- 11:57Gio Mas: Okay, so since we were not in the office together yeah because I was working remote um.
- 12:02Gio Mas: You know, we would have like video chats as we were talking about like hey, you know we got to do this for X Y Z client and you know, whatever right.
- 12:08Gio Mas: So I remember that during one of the first meetings he started having an argument with his girlfriend.
- 12:15Gio Mas: But here's the thing when they were arguing it sounded more like they were joking, right.
- 12:20Gio Mas: Because you know how you can play around like that, hey, you know how, yeah, how you can play around like that, hey, you know whatever, right, so I didn't say anything, I'm like okay, they're just playing around, because he was like very brief, right.
- 12:28Gio Mas: And then I started noticing that it happens more often and I'm like dude, they're not kidding, they're not kidding.
- 12:34Gio Mas: And then during this one meeting you can see, like I think I don't know who it was, I remember, but one of them just like tossed the door, like okay.
- 12:43Vipul Bindra: I think they're actually fighting Wow.
- 12:46Gio Mas: So it just, it just became a thing that I was like really afraid to like go in meetings.
- 12:49Vipul Bindra: They're making their dirty laundry public, huh.
- 12:52Gio Mas: Yeah, but the thing is that then that translated towards me.
- 12:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 12:55Gio Mas: So what happened is that this one time we were on a call and he told me okay, let's do.
- 13:00Gio Mas: You know, we have a new client.
- 13:01Gio Mas: Let's do this task this way.
- 13:04Gio Mas: So, basically, let's follow this one strategy, right?
- 13:06Gio Mas: So I was like, okay, bet, I'll do it.
- 13:08Gio Mas: So I did it.
- 13:09Gio Mas: It took me like two days and then, after I did it, I'm like, hey, you know, I'm done with this.
- 13:13Gio Mas: And then he was like dude, this is wrong.
- 13:19Gio Mas: You didn't do it like we talked about.
- 13:20Gio Mas: Why did you do it like this?
- 13:22Gio Mas: And I was so afraid.
- 13:23Gio Mas: I was like that was like I said that was my first job out of college and I was like, dude, I'm sorry, I swear, I thought you had said the other thing, right yeah so basically I just fixed it, you know, on my own time, and then I apologized and you know, I moved on yeah and.
- 13:37Gio Mas: But I kept thinking I'm pretty sure he said the other thing, yeah, I'm pretty sure he told me to do what I did.
- 13:43Gio Mas: Yeah, but I was like, okay, I mean, it was on a call, maybe I misheard, so whatever, right, let's move on.
- 13:47Gio Mas: So then, like one or two weeks after, he same thing happens.
- 13:52Gio Mas: You know, he gave me my tasks for the next couple of weeks and one of them, you know, he told me hey, do it like this, like for the sake of an example, let's, let's follow, let's do like a, b instead of an N, right For this client, let's apply a B.
- 14:06Gio Mas: So I was like, okay, fine, I'll do it.
- 14:09Gio Mas: So I finished the task, and then he gets mad at me.
- 14:11Gio Mas: He's like dude, why did you do B?
- 14:13Gio Mas: I told you to do A.
- 14:14Gio Mas: But here's the thing For this one time he didn't say it to me on a call, he sent it through chat, send it to the chat.
- 14:25Gio Mas: Yeah, like dude.
- 14:26Gio Mas: I know for a fact you didn't tell me to do it like this.
- 14:27Gio Mas: So I went back on the chat and I'm like I knew it.
- 14:28Gio Mas: So I didn't fuck up on the first time or the second time, it was just this guy.
- 14:29Gio Mas: Maybe, like you know, maybe he wanted to do it this way and then he talked to the client and they changed their minds.
- 14:35Vipul Bindra: Yeah but he's putting that on you he doesn't want to admit that he's wrong.
- 14:38Gio Mas: So that just became like a whole thing, right?
- 14:40Gio Mas: Yeah, I just got really mad.
- 14:42Gio Mas: I didn't say anything, of course, because again, I was there for like a month and a half and, um, dude it, just it just became like an ongoing torture and then this one day, he um again.
- 14:52Gio Mas: Mind you, I was working.
- 14:54Gio Mas: It was like the very first part of the of the day right I was working and then he randomly tells me hey, give me 20 minutes, don't do anything right now.
- 15:02Gio Mas: Just, you know, take a break, take a breath, because I'm updating some passwords and stuff like that.
- 15:07Gio Mas: I'm like, okay, sure, let me know.
- 15:09Gio Mas: And then an hour goes by and I'm getting desperate because I don't know about you.
- 15:13Gio Mas: But if I'm working for someone and they're paying me hourly, the last thing I want to do is not do anything while they're paying me.
- 15:18Gio Mas: So I texted him very politely hey, what's up?
- 15:21Gio Mas: Do you get any updates?
- 15:26Gio Mas: Are you still working on that?
- 15:26Gio Mas: Just so I I know if I need to wait any longer, and I swear it was like the most polite message it was like very casual, right.
- 15:32Gio Mas: He's like dude, don't talk to me like this, do not.
- 15:35Gio Mas: And I'm like okay, this guy is like nuts, you are insane wow and I think after that, um, I worked for one more day and that's the whole thing.
- 15:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so you quit.
- 15:46Vipul Bindra: No, I didn't quit.
- 15:47Gio Mas: Oh, he fired you he was switching the passwords because he wanted to fire me.
- 15:52Vipul Bindra: Oh.
- 15:53Gio Mas: But and here's one thing that I think it's going to add a lot of value to this there might be employers that are assholes, it's just how it is.
- 16:03Gio Mas: There's some nice ones.
- 16:04Gio Mas: There are some that are assholes, it's just how it is.
- 16:06Gio Mas: There's some nice ones.
- 16:06Gio Mas: There are some that are not.
- 16:06Gio Mas: But regardless of how he fired me because he, dude, I was working so early and he just like fired me Like first thing, he waited for me to like get up.
- 16:15Gio Mas: Yeah, start working.
- 16:17Gio Mas: To fire me.
- 16:17Gio Mas: I'm like dude, just fire me the night before yeah.
- 16:20Gio Mas: But here's the thing when he did it, he called me, I think like 20 minutes before my shift.
- 16:25Gio Mas: He was very aggressive with it and I think, like I said, this is where I value this story, because how I responded I wasn't trying to be aggressive, I was like, okay, I understand, no problem, tell me, what do you think are my strongholds?
- 16:44Gio Mas: Like, what do you think I do best and what do you think I can improve?
- 16:46Gio Mas: Dude, that guy went from here to here.
- 16:48Gio Mas: He was so mad and then he started talking to me for like 20, 30 more minutes about like hey, yes, this is what you do.
- 16:53Gio Mas: Great, you know I love this.
- 16:54Gio Mas: You know I might call you back for this because you are very talented at this.
- 16:58Gio Mas: So it's just like, like and like now, you know, I hope he doesn't see this because I think he's gonna know, like if he hears the story.
- 17:11Gio Mas: But now I have him on linkedin and we, like we don't talk anymore.
- 17:12Gio Mas: But if I ever need something, I know I can reach out to him, because at the time he might have not been a good like employer, but yeah or he sounds like he was also having personal issues.
- 17:17Vipul Bindra: But that nightmare story I'm glad you shared because that's the truth.
- 17:20Vipul Bindra: To be real, I didn't have anything anything like that.
- 17:22Vipul Bindra: But you know, to be honest, that was my driving force to go full time into it Again.
- 17:27Vipul Bindra: I wish I had just followed my passion.
- 17:29Vipul Bindra: Like other people, the biggest thing is just doing it right, and my leap was just being miserable at the stupid job that I had.
- 17:37Vipul Bindra: And you, sharing the experience exactly tells people you know why.
- 17:42Vipul Bindra: You know working for yourself is awesome.
- 17:45Vipul Bindra: Obviously, it doesn't have to be like again.
- 17:52Vipul Bindra: Now you found a job where you are happy.
- 17:53Vipul Bindra: That is another opportunity.
- 17:53Vipul Bindra: But again, if you're miserable, if you're treating, being treated bad, you know I I just highly recommend just look out for better opportunities.
- 17:58Vipul Bindra: There's always better, either opportunities to be a freelancer Again this is why I started this conversation podcast anyway anyway so people can make a healthy living doing this.
- 18:07Vipul Bindra: And even if you don't want to do video you this is just your passion uh, you can easily find a nine-to-five.
- 18:13Vipul Bindra: That is where you don't feel like you're working and you're the prime example of that because you have found that right yeah, um, but yeah, I guess just to finish, the idea is you know if somebody is coming at you like that?
- 18:25Gio Mas: always try to make it easy, exactly.
- 18:28Gio Mas: Hey, let's not fight, let's just, you know, reflect on our experiences both and, like I said at the end of the conversation, he was very happy he hired me in the first place, but I mean he did treat you bad, so yeah, let's get back to it.
- 18:41Vipul Bindra: So what's the second thing that you're doing?
- 18:43Gio Mas: Oh yeah, sorry, yeah, no, hey, we went on a big tangent, but that's okay.
- 18:47Gio Mas: Yeah, so the second thing that I'm doing is I'm working for an SEO agency based in Michigan, so with them, and this is how the previous story relates to this.
- 18:57Gio Mas: After that experience with that last employer, I took maybe like three, four years off of SEO.
- 19:04Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 19:04Gio Mas: And SEO is one of those things that you really have to pay attention to every single week, because there's so many updates with Google.
- 19:10Vipul Bindra: I do SEO, changing the algorithm all the time, yeah.
- 19:14Gio Mas: And I do SEO primarily for Google, yeah.
- 19:17Vipul Bindra: Who else uses what else?
- 19:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, there's, there's.
- 19:20Gio Mas: Yeah, who's using bing, though I mean, come on I mean, surprisingly they ask for it sometimes, like they just asked me for it today.
- 19:26Gio Mas: I'm like dude, I don't know what it is.
- 19:29Vipul Bindra: Bing sends me emails often is your business open?
- 19:31Vipul Bindra: Is this, this?
- 19:32Vipul Bindra: I'm like who's even looking?
- 19:33Vipul Bindra: at I'm like hey, at least I'll go to yelp.
- 19:37Vipul Bindra: Funny enough, I personally use yelp for like photos.
- 19:40Vipul Bindra: So I'm a big visual eater.
- 19:41Vipul Bindra: So I love, love, obviously trying new foods, you know that.
- 19:44Vipul Bindra: But I want to see what I'm eating, and a lot of menus especially the fancy or the restaurant, they just want a word, you know you're going to get, you know whatever, and then I'm like I want to see visually what I'm going to get.
- 19:55Vipul Bindra: So I love Yelp because it has photos.
- 19:57Vipul Bindra: Obviously, google reviews.
- 19:58Gio Mas: Google business listing has photos too.
- 20:00Gio Mas: Have you ever dealt with uh yelp customer service no, why would I know?
- 20:04Gio Mas: The worst.
- 20:05Vipul Bindra: The worst like once you ask for a listing yeah, it's like well, I'm not gonna say anything because I don't want to get to but it's just like the worst experience oh, so I haven't seen it from that side because, like I said, if I go on yelp, I'm just looking at photos of meals that I'm going to eat into, so it makes it easier for me to choose yeah, no, um one of the jobs that I have.
- 20:22Gio Mas: Um, like, we decided to go for yelp so we had like a whole listing and all that and I guess you can customize it.
- 20:29Gio Mas: But oh my god, it was like the worst experience to talk to them, like I think we spoke to three representatives.
- 20:36Gio Mas: Once they make the sale they ghost, you man.
- 20:41Gio Mas: It's like t I swear they ghost you for months and it's so weird.
- 20:47Vipul Bindra: It seems like somebody's been burnt on Tinder.
- 20:49Gio Mas: I mean no, right now I'm dating somebody right now, so I'm not in those spaces anymore.
- 20:54Gio Mas: Not in those spaces anymore.
- 20:55Vipul Bindra: You found a job.
- 20:56Vipul Bindra: You found somebody to date.
- 20:57Vipul Bindra: I mean, your life is going good and it seems like you're back in SEO, back in seo.
- 21:06Vipul Bindra: So how did you find, how did you catch up, uh, to get to you know up to par to today's seo with this new freelance game.
- 21:09Gio Mas: I'm still, I'm still getting up to date.
- 21:11Gio Mas: Um, so, this uh agency again, it's based in michigan uh, they've known me for I want to say like a few years, because my my initial mentor, the one that first hired me, in like 2016, 2017, for the internship she was working for them okay um.
- 21:26Gio Mas: So they wanted to hire me like 2021.
- 21:31Gio Mas: They offered to hire me, but at the time I had just joined my previous company and I was there for like a good year and a half.
- 21:37Gio Mas: So I mean, after I left that place, I was just looking around see if they were open for freelancing and eventually I got the job.
- 21:48Gio Mas: So the one thing I like about them is that they also innovate a lot.
- 21:51Gio Mas: So right now it's so weird Because I know I've been working for them for like three months now, but it feels like I just got hired again Because January 1st they decided to change their entire process for SEO.
- 22:03Gio Mas: So it's like I'm really learning how to work for them again, and I've been going at it for the last two days.
- 22:09Vipul Bindra: Yeah, wow, that's crazy.
- 22:10Vipul Bindra: But I mean that's good, though that means they're innovating, they're trying to keep up, you know, for their clients or whatever.
- 22:15Vipul Bindra: Because SEO is hard, yeah, very hard.
- 22:18Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I suffer with that.
- 22:19Gio Mas: Yeah, it's one of those things where I would like to allocate more time, personal time, to just like dive deeper on, like learn more things.
- 22:26Gio Mas: There's so many things included in SEO.
- 22:30Gio Mas: Right, like you got technical, you got on page you know, if you also.
- 22:34Gio Mas: The thing is that if you have a business that is big right, Like they have multiple locations, or if it's like an international, it's just like everything shifts.
- 22:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 22:43Gio Mas: So, yes, I'm still like trying to catch up on SEO, but again, they're very supportive and I think that's one thing that I really wanted to highlight about them.
- 22:52Gio Mas: They are very supportive.
- 22:53Gio Mas: They offer you a lot of resources.
- 22:54Gio Mas: They also give you flexibility with times, and that's really helpful.
- 23:00Vipul Bindra: So that's awesome.
- 23:01Vipul Bindra: So you found two marketing things that you're enjoying.
- 23:04Vipul Bindra: Same week Same week too, and now you've been doing it for a while, which is what you were looking for.
- 23:10Vipul Bindra: Are you still, then, pursuing freelance opportunities or no?
- 23:13Vipul Bindra: Do you even have time for it?
- 23:14Vipul Bindra: It?
- 23:14Gio Mas: depends.
- 23:15Gio Mas: So for the marketing agency, usually I do that four days a week.
- 23:21Gio Mas: For sure I'm going to be doing that all weekend long, but sometimes I also do some at night, so I don't have to like do longer hours on the weekend, right, but some weeks I might not have anything like.
- 23:31Gio Mas: Uh, I just got my first couple of tasks after like a month because, you know it's agency work so if you know, in december people are not gonna ask for much yeah they're gonna go on vacations, take their pto, all that you know.
- 23:45Gio Mas: So I didn't get any tasks from them for the majority of december, okay, so I'm just getting started right now.
- 23:50Gio Mas: Um, but yeah, I mean, the one thing I like about having both positions is that you just get to immerse yourself more into what you like, which, in my case, is marketing so that's awesome.
- 24:04Vipul Bindra: So seems like you're happy.
- 24:06Vipul Bindra: You're doing two different things.
- 24:07Vipul Bindra: You're you're.
- 24:08Vipul Bindra: You know, this is exactly what you wanted, my relationship and this way.
- 24:14Vipul Bindra: I wanted to talk to you now because I feel like marketing is so important with video, because I have a love and hate relationship with marketing.
- 24:22Vipul Bindra: I love because I work, obviously, with a lot of agencies.
- 24:26Vipul Bindra: Especially when you're working with bigger brands, they have to come through a marketing agency.
- 24:29Vipul Bindra: That's just how it is.
- 24:30Vipul Bindra: I wish it wasn't, but anyway.
- 24:33Vipul Bindra: So I have a love and hate because you know, they hire me, Obviously, they pay tons and tons of money to me and that's awesome.
- 24:39Vipul Bindra: But then, on the other hand, the most amount of like I wouldn't say arguments, but you know the silly things that I notice is because of marketing agencies.
- 24:50Vipul Bindra: Sometimes they're so stuck in dark ages because I've had so many marketing agencies go we need a 60, we need a 30, we need a 15.
- 24:54Vipul Bindra: And they're not making TV ads.
- 24:55Vipul Bindra: I would get it if it was like broadcast Okay, you have specific time.
- 24:58Vipul Bindra: Right, this is old school.
- 25:00Vipul Bindra: They learned it 20 years ago in marketing.
- 25:02Vipul Bindra: Cause that it's not relevant anymore.
- 25:04Vipul Bindra: I'm like you're posting this on social media.
- 25:06Vipul Bindra: It does.
- 25:06Vipul Bindra: You don't need a 15, 30, 60.
- 25:08Vipul Bindra: You know you need the story to be tight, right, you need it to be effective in the first five seconds.
- 25:13Vipul Bindra: You know all the, all the stuff that's actually relevant today to social media.
- 25:16Vipul Bindra: And then they'll go no, we just want a 30 or 15, 30, 60.
- 25:20Vipul Bindra: And then, uh, and I'm Like like I don't get it anyway.
- 25:25Vipul Bindra: But but but then, and you know, you want to make obviously good content.
- 25:29Vipul Bindra: You want the client to succeed.
- 25:30Vipul Bindra: You want their social media to be effective if that's what you're doing or even online videos to succeed.
- 25:35Vipul Bindra: But these marketing agencies are in such dark ages.
- 25:39Gio Mas: And then which is ironic.
- 25:40Gio Mas: Yeah, if you think about it.
- 25:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly they're supposed to be innovative.
- 25:43Vipul Bindra: And then on top of that there's some that are like the opposite that I don't work with, that.
- 25:47Vipul Bindra: I've seen where they'll take a go-to client and say, okay, we can make you this brand video 20 grand.
- 25:52Vipul Bindra: Client is a business owner.
- 25:53Vipul Bindra: They say, there you go.
- 25:55Vipul Bindra: And then they give $500 to someone you know, a student or whatever, some in-house person, whatever, to make the trashiest videos, the type of videos I've seen.
- 26:03Vipul Bindra: Dude, like I could close my eyes and I'm not even trying to brag here like close my eyes and make a better video than the sum they're putting for, like the huge clients.
- 26:13Gio Mas: Yeah.
- 26:13Vipul Bindra: Yeah and so, but again, there's good ones too.
- 26:16Vipul Bindra: That's like I said, they make awesome videos, they do great.
- 26:18Vipul Bindra: So that's why I'm like it's a love and hate relationship, but it is a partnership that video people need to learn, because at some point if you're going to do corporate and commercial video, you're going especially commercials.
- 26:29Vipul Bindra: You're going to have to deal with marketing people and I guess that's what.
- 26:34Gio Mas: That's a really good sign to see how the people really are.
- 26:37Gio Mas: What are they valuing the most?
- 26:39Gio Mas: Uh, the end product or how much revenue you're going to have, right?
- 26:42Gio Mas: yeah because, again, yeah, I've seen a lot of cases in which you know they just hired a student, which I don't think it's bad, right.
- 26:47Gio Mas: But if you, especially you cause you deal with like bigger clients right and bigger projects, if you know you have a, a client of that size, right, effective way to do that right which makes economic sense.
- 27:03Gio Mas: Now, economic sense is not just okay, they're paying me twenty thousand dollars, I'm gonna pay somebody two hundred dollars, yeah or they're so not knowledgeable.
- 27:13Vipul Bindra: I've had literal marketing agency owners say about feedback on a video, you know where we're, uh, let's say we shot something.
- 27:20Vipul Bindra: And then you know, obviously, video people where we're putting in out to create depth.
- 27:24Vipul Bindra: We have a something in the foreground.
- 27:26Vipul Bindra: You know something in the background.
- 27:27Vipul Bindra: So I've had like, um, whoever shot it did a great job.
- 27:31Vipul Bindra: I don't remember who the shooter was, but the point is we, he put like a leaf so it's out of focus.
- 27:35Vipul Bindra: You know, in the foreground to create depth.
- 27:37Vipul Bindra: Like this area is so much bigger, whatever we were.
- 27:39Vipul Bindra: And then the marketing agency on her, she goes.
- 27:41Vipul Bindra: Next time I would recommend that they watch out for this.
- 27:45Vipul Bindra: They accidentally got a leaf in the shot and I'm like, I'm like, lady, you're supposed to be this expert in your field and you have zero knowledge.
- 27:53Vipul Bindra: And it's OK if you're not an expert, but then that's why you hire experts and let them do it.
- 27:57Vipul Bindra: But ultimately these are the people that are actually selling to the, to the client, and then, anyway, that's the feedback on my footage.
- 28:03Vipul Bindra: But then the same client's footage that I got dude, they didn't even bother to open the curtain, turn on the lights at the home.
- 28:09Vipul Bindra: I'm saying that's a bare minimum.
- 28:11Vipul Bindra: A video person would go Ideally.
- 28:12Vipul Bindra: You know we would light.
- 28:13Vipul Bindra: You've seen us do how many interviews.
- 28:15Vipul Bindra: We would actually bring our lights, but forget that they didn't even bother to turn on the lights or open the curtains.
- 28:20Vipul Bindra: Ug, important, ugliest footage ever from an osmo pocket.
- 28:28Vipul Bindra: Um, again, not nothing wrong with osmoponic, but what I'm saying is an osmo pocket with no lights for a really, really big client is the footage that they were shooting and I'm like what?
- 28:35Vipul Bindra: Like I was literally amazed.
- 28:37Vipul Bindra: I'm like huh, this is crazy, but that's happening.
- 28:41Vipul Bindra: And that's not the one experience.
- 28:42Vipul Bindra: I've had many like that.
- 28:43Vipul Bindra: Um, so, anyway, so I feel like, again, it can be a very hit and miss relationship.
- 28:49Gio Mas: Um, but one thing I noticed is that it's not really just about the marketing.
- 28:53Gio Mas: I think it's more about the person in charge, right?
- 28:55Gio Mas: Um, and here's where I wanted to go with this there's a big misconception that usually when people are in like I'm assuming that you were not just looking to any like new people to the business, right, like they were more like higher ups within the business, yeah, they're the owners that I'm talking about.
- 29:10Vipul Bindra: Oh, okay.
- 29:11Gio Mas: So people usually, when they're in a high position like that, specifically for one thing, they just assume that they know everything, and I don't like that.
- 29:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 29:21Gio Mas: Because I think the better experience is to be open.
- 29:22Gio Mas: Yes, I don't like that.
- 29:23Gio Mas: Yeah, because I think the I think the better experience is to be open.
- 29:25Gio Mas: Yes, I'm an expert on this one topic.
- 29:26Gio Mas: Yeah, what do you think about this one that you're I'm hiring you to do right?
- 29:29Gio Mas: Yeah, and my God, it's just.
- 29:31Vipul Bindra: People are so proud, but also, it's okay to be an expert but the way you stay an expert is by keeping up with, because it's changing so much more.
- 29:42Vipul Bindra: I mean video changes a lot, but marketing is even more, because there's so much more to it right than just, um, just you know a single element to it.
- 29:51Vipul Bindra: Like you said, seo is its own thing, ads is going to be its own thing.
- 29:55Vipul Bindra: Um, you know, I don't know, print is going to be its own.
- 29:58Vipul Bindra: I mean, there's so much to marketing and technically, video does fall into marketing too.
- 30:02Vipul Bindra: Um, so it's, or it's.
- 30:04Vipul Bindra: Like you said, it's impossible to be an expert at everything.
- 30:07Vipul Bindra: You have to bring in a team and build a team around you and let them do and be the best at what you hired them to do.
- 30:13Vipul Bindra: Right, you don't, you can't know everything Absolutely.
- 30:16Gio Mas: Yeah, and it's usually.
- 30:18Gio Mas: I have the bad experiences with people that assume they know everything.
- 30:21Gio Mas: And funny enough enough, the people that are that they tell you hey, just you know, this is what I do, this is what I'm best at, but I also know a little bit on this yeah but I'm hiring you to do this one thing that I'm not at my hundred percent.
- 30:34Gio Mas: Those people, they're just open about everything and that's good, because they uh influence easy communication within the team, right, and they're not just like a stick up like, hey, I know this better than you, just do it this way, right?
- 30:45Gio Mas: No, so that's those are some things that I try to look.
- 30:48Gio Mas: You know, not now anymore, but when I was looking for a job, it's like not just a good company but also a good team, because it doesn't make sense to me to have a good job and then have a bad team.
- 30:59Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I feel like they just they should go ahead yeah, and that's the same thing, bringing back to where we started.
- 31:04Vipul Bindra: You know our sets.
- 31:04Vipul Bindra: That's why my whole thing has been you know, in film industry this can be a thing I've heard from so many people where it's like the DP is just so rude or whatever, and my sets I always been like no, we're going to create an environment of collaboration because I don't care if you're a PA or you know, you're the director, whatever.
- 31:22Vipul Bindra: Like you, everyone has an input into making great content and you never know who's looking, who's who can catch the oversight, whatever that may be.
- 31:30Vipul Bindra: So I let everyone have free and open communication.
- 31:34Vipul Bindra: You know, obviously don't do it in front of the clients, especially if you're doing something wrong.
- 31:38Vipul Bindra: But you know, that's why we have headsets, right, you can speak up, you can say whatever and nobody's you know, no question is wrong.
- 31:44Vipul Bindra: You won't believe.
- 31:45Vipul Bindra: I was on a set earlier this year where somebody asked just a genuine question.
- 31:49Vipul Bindra: We were testing a drone and a buddy of mine was like you know, he didn't know.
- 31:53Vipul Bindra: He was like I don't know, why would you pick this frame rate over this frame rate or whatever, something like that.
- 31:57Vipul Bindra: Right, and the dude goes are you the drone pilot?
- 32:00Vipul Bindra: Then why are you asking Stay in your lane?
- 32:02Vipul Bindra: And then why are you asking stay in your lane.
- 32:06Vipul Bindra: And I'm like what he just asked, a genuine question like you know, like, answer it like be, be nice.
- 32:09Vipul Bindra: And if you don't want to say you know I'm not, you know I'm, I don't know, or whatever, something like that, just that's a, you're in a professional environment with the whole crew now they've seen you behave like that and two, you're just showing that you're not actually interested in working as a team.
- 32:22Vipul Bindra: Nobody.
- 32:22Gio Mas: Nobody wants to work with somebody like that Exactly.
- 32:24Vipul Bindra: I'm like no, that's not acceptable.
- 32:27Vipul Bindra: It wasn't my set, otherwise, yeah, that person would have been fired immediately.
- 32:31Vipul Bindra: But anyway, every set we've been on has been fun.
- 32:34Vipul Bindra: And what's your experience on that?
- 32:36Vipul Bindra: Let's go back to video, which is, you know, primary thing I like to do Talk about, I don't know know, any projects that come to your mind, any experience, any stories from there's so many.
- 32:48Gio Mas: I mean something that relates to that specifically.
- 32:50Gio Mas: Uh, okay, so for video, like I said I, I went to school for video, I just never pursued I mean you did for a while as a freelancer, yeah, I just do it as a freelancer because I think it's fun to do it as a hobby, but not a thousand percent into it yeah the part of video that I, you know, do on a daily basis and I've done most of my jobs is really editing, right For actual videography, like recording, I can do basic setups.
- 33:15Gio Mas: I am not going to say it's as advanced as you can do, you know your setups.
- 33:19Gio Mas: But, yeah, no, I remember when I the first time I worked with you right, you talk about, you know, you send a message on the group chat and you were asking for like PAs, if I'm not wrong, right.
- 33:33Vipul Bindra: I don't remember.
- 33:33Vipul Bindra: It's been so long.
- 33:34Vipul Bindra: That's why I'm asking you.
- 33:35Vipul Bindra: I think it was like PAs, but again, I hadn't worked with you before, so I didn't know.
- 33:39Vipul Bindra: It must have been years ago, because it's a long time ago.
- 33:43Vipul Bindra: At least I've known you for at least two years, if not longer.
- 33:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:45Gio Mas: Something like that, Time flies man.
- 33:46Gio Mas: Time flies.
- 33:46Gio Mas: But, yeah, no, and I was like I met this guy once or twice before, but we've never actually worked together.
- 33:52Gio Mas: I don't know what his workflow is or what all of this is going to entail.
- 33:57Gio Mas: And again this you know somebody that's always freelance, where you're used to, you know, being more like responsive to different scenarios, working with different people, you know, not just working with the same team.
- 34:11Gio Mas: So I remember very vividly when I reached out to you and I was like, hey, you know I might help you, I might be able to help you out.
- 34:17Gio Mas: What do you need?
- 34:17Gio Mas: Uh, and then when I showed up, I was like, okay, just so, you know, you know, I know how to do this, but I don't know how to do it at a thousand percent, like you do and dude, you were so easy going with me, you didn't say anything and, funny enough, we didn't have any issues either with us exactly because that's what I like.
- 34:33Vipul Bindra: You know this is you.
- 34:34Vipul Bindra: You hit.
- 34:35Vipul Bindra: You know you said something really incredible to me.
- 34:37Vipul Bindra: As long as you're up front right, you were up front with me this is what I know.
- 34:41Vipul Bindra: This is what I don't know right now.
- 34:44Vipul Bindra: I, within five seconds or 10 seconds of you telling me this, I know exactly what you're going to be good at on set and this is what you're not going to be good on set, and then it's, it's, it's easy for me.
- 34:54Vipul Bindra: I would have rather, and obviously you did the right thing, which is why we worked on so many sets after but had you not told me, that would have been a disaster, because I could have asked you to do other things that you wouldn't have been comfortable with, and this way, I knew exactly what I could tell you to do and what I needed to show you.
- 35:10Vipul Bindra: Plus, I knew, uh, that you, now, that I know.
- 35:12Vipul Bindra: Now you don't have to say that in front of a client, because that would have been embarrassing you go to a client.
- 35:17Vipul Bindra: I don't know how to set abc, whatever it was, and funny enough though, uh, I remember now that you're saying that I think it was one of those sets where you know you have to go to one location film, pack up, go to another location, another interview be rolled, go to another location, be rolled.
- 35:32Vipul Bindra: So many of those I do, anyway, and I think by the second one I think you had already picked up on what I exactly expected, because I also make my equipment easy to work with.
- 35:42Gio Mas: Yeah, you have it very organized.
- 35:50Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and that was we can, because it's a rinse and repeat type of thing um, and and I never felt I was like, oh, you know, he said he wasn't good but, like you know, I could tell obviously the first one and but I showed you around and then I think by the second one you were doing great, exactly what I, what I needed you to be.
- 35:59Vipul Bindra: And you know I was called first ac or whatever, and I think think I even had you do some B-roll with one of the gimbal cameras and I think everything came out incredible.
- 36:08Vipul Bindra: So, like I said, and then obviously the rest is history, you've helped me a lot on a lot of sets and I think that's the role I've typically gone for.
- 36:15Vipul Bindra: You is the first AC because you've been such a good assistant as in I don't want to call it just assistant, assistant camera Because you've been you know, know, able to essentially get me whatever I needed done, like whether it was just go get a quick b-roll shot or just help in any way possible to make the set you know, work, work, uh, right.
- 36:35Vipul Bindra: So I never felt like, you know, um, you were deficient anyway at all, because you know I wouldn't have, obviously we wouldn't have worked, because last thing I want to do is baby, someone right yeah, but that's okay, I'm saying up front.
- 36:48Vipul Bindra: When you meet someone new, it's okay to be up front about it.
- 36:52Gio Mas: Uh, especially that helps them kind of manage you better right and and be able to make sure the shoot goes smoothly yeah, no, like I said, I'm very big on communication, right, and I'd rather just be and this doesn't only apply to me right, like if I'm working with somebody else, right, and we have like a project like that, right, if they, if they just don't like even acknowledge to tell you hey, just so you know I'm.
- 37:14Gio Mas: You know I might not have experience with this or I might have some, but not to the point where it's needed to accomplish the task right and they don't tell you stuff, yeah I'll, I'll be mad.
- 37:23Gio Mas: So, like I said, I try to be very open with communication on everything that I do, even like with my team.
- 37:30Gio Mas: I try to you know.
- 37:31Gio Mas: Just be open about everything and how we do things, how I view my things, where I'm going, you know, everything that I'm thinking about, because I think communication is a foundation for everything.
- 37:43Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and we've had great communication.
- 37:44Gio Mas: I, because I think communication is a foundation for everything, yeah, and and we've had great communication.
- 37:47Vipul Bindra: I think all our sets have been fun.
- 37:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you know we joke, that's what I'm saying.
- 37:50Vipul Bindra: Like when it comes to work, you know, what I liked was whenever you were on set you worked, gelled with everyone that was on set.
- 37:57Vipul Bindra: You know you did what was needed but at the same time it fun.
- 38:05Vipul Bindra: Like you know, we're all chilling like buddies instead of um.
- 38:06Vipul Bindra: You know I don't know stressing about something or whatever.
- 38:08Vipul Bindra: And even if something does go wrong which does go wrong, it's a video set.
- 38:10Vipul Bindra: That's the the thing mainly.
- 38:11Vipul Bindra: We do solve problems.
- 38:13Vipul Bindra: Then you know, we're able to solve problems.
- 38:15Vipul Bindra: I think I remember we were on a set where where we the client told us okay, so you're gonna show up, you can do b-roll, and then an hour or so later you can do interviews.
- 38:22Vipul Bindra: So I had a planned out.
- 38:23Vipul Bindra: You know, again, I'm gonna plan out everything.
- 38:25Vipul Bindra: Hey, so we can go in, you guys are gonna get this b-roll while we set up this interview and then, obviously, as soon as we show up, they have changed everything.
- 38:31Vipul Bindra: They're all where you are, we're ready to do interviews.
- 38:34Vipul Bindra: Uh, the, I think it was in the villages or whatever, I don't know if you remember, but anyway, they were ready to.
- 38:39Vipul Bindra: Oh, they were ready to do interviews immediately.
- 38:41Vipul Bindra: And I'm like, uh, okay, and then, instead of you know complaining, obviously we pivot.
- 38:46Vipul Bindra: So I'm like, okay, you guys go grab this, we're gonna start interview.
- 38:49Vipul Bindra: We will obviously do a fast and responsive, yeah, exactly and then and, but it went still smoothly like
- 38:54Vipul Bindra: obviously was the first couple interviews wasn't the lighting that we want, but that's okay, because we were able to roll now because that's what the client wanted.
- 39:02Vipul Bindra: The client wanted us to go immediately and we did it and slowly we were able to build a set how we wanted to, as we were switching out people and get it to the to the look that we wanted.
- 39:12Vipul Bindra: But I'm saying nobody in the team um hiccup for even a second because even though we were being, you know, technically, challenged it's like, uh, you know, even though we were we, we were on time, we were prepared to do exactly what we had planned out to do, they completely obviously switched things on us.
- 39:30Vipul Bindra: But again, from what I remember, you were on top of it, you know, you executed, you were getting B-roll, whatever you know with the rest of the people that were with us.
- 39:38Vipul Bindra: So I, like I said again, you're great with video If you ever come and I come back.
- 39:45Gio Mas: I'm still open to freelance, just have a more um weird schedule yeah, like I said, sometimes some weeks I might be busy, like this week.
- 39:53Gio Mas: Oh my god, I have not stopped yeah, I've been working all day today, all day yesterday and yeah but, basically no, I'm very open to do you miss video
- 40:01Vipul Bindra: the last ever since you've been doing this have you, I still do video, I do video for them.
- 40:06Vipul Bindra: So you're integrating, because now you had so much experience I know you mentioned, so you're integrating more video into their LinkedIn, right?
- 40:12Vipul Bindra: So you're somehow still keeping up with it.
- 40:15Gio Mas: Yeah, so I guess I didn't finish talking about that.
- 40:18Gio Mas: The last person that was in the role they did only LinkedIn and it was only like one part, so I just grew that upon.
- 40:26Gio Mas: Like implementing new strategies, new types of content.
- 40:27Gio Mas: So one thing they were doing which I thought was really genius right, they were doing this articles called verdict alerts, so every time they win a case, an attorney wants to talk about it, because not everybody wants to talk about the wins um, you know, you design a post, you put it out on LinkedIn and then you link that back to an article.
- 40:45Gio Mas: That's more like official, right.
- 40:46Gio Mas: But one thing I noticed is that, okay, yeah, these things are great, I love and the funny thing is that I love law.
- 40:53Gio Mas: I'm very like involved in that world even though I'm not a lawyer, I've always felt some kind of interest in it, which I guess it makes sense now because I'm in a law firm.
- 41:04Gio Mas: Of interest in it, yeah, which I guess it.
- 41:05Gio Mas: It makes sense now because I'm in the law firm.
- 41:06Gio Mas: But the one thing as I was reading through the law verdicts that came out, um, I noticed that, yes, they were good, they had a lot of great information, um, because all it is is it tells you the strategies that they used.
- 41:16Gio Mas: Okay, so they tell you the claims you know against the client, or you know, um, all the claims.
- 41:22Gio Mas: You know what they were asking for, what the strategy was in defense, the outcomes, even if there were any hiccups during the process.
- 41:30Gio Mas: They also mentioned that.
- 41:31Gio Mas: So to me that's like watching an episode of Suits, right.
- 41:34Gio Mas: So I thought it was great, but I noticed that once it got posted, that's it gone.
- 41:42Gio Mas: Yeah, it might be it might get you know interactions for two days, three days, and that's it gone.
- 41:44Gio Mas: Yeah, it might be.
- 41:45Gio Mas: It might get you know interactions for two days, three days, and that's it.
- 41:47Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's social media for you.
- 41:50Gio Mas: So I was like okay, guys, I think this is a great thing, right, and I think it's good that you are highlighting it, but how do we find a way to bring it back?
- 41:58Gio Mas: How do we give it a second life?
- 42:00Gio Mas: Yeah, Because you don't want to do all this work, especially because some of these cases they last years.
- 42:08Gio Mas: And again, if you're putting that much work into a case for years and you only get your 15 minutes of fame on LinkedIn, I feel like you can do something more with that.
- 42:16Gio Mas: And again, like whatever you post on LinkedIn, it also highlights your relevance.
- 42:19Gio Mas: So what I started doing is I started giving it a second life, and not just by reposting it, because yeah that'd be boring, yeah no, um, so I started doing something called verdict video follow-ups.
- 42:32Gio Mas: We would wait, maybe like at least three months since the verdict came out and we would do something like this of course I'm not in it, but I'm the one interviewing.
- 42:41Gio Mas: but I would be basically having a conversation with the attorney about okay, tell us about the case, Tell us everything that's in the verdict.
- 42:49Gio Mas: But now you are the center of the spotlight.
- 42:52Gio Mas: You know, because when you do articles, yes, it's good, it's informative and everything is educational, but people don't see the personality of the attorney right and you're so limited because you know it's an article and you want to make sure that you sound right yeah so people just like condense their ideas, so you might leave some like golden nuggets out yeah but when you implement video, there's more space to implement.
- 43:15Gio Mas: Oh, just so you guys know this also happened, or you know this fun fact about the case, or you know they just get to give you more details about the whole legal process.
- 43:24Gio Mas: You know, and that's just great.
- 43:27Gio Mas: I've had some crazy laughs when they were telling the stories the verdict video stories.
- 43:32Gio Mas: And yeah, like I said, it gives the article a second life Because once you put out the video you look it back to the article.
- 43:41Vipul Bindra: Again.
- 43:42Vipul Bindra: So that's pretty great.
- 43:42Vipul Bindra: So you're reusing the thing, plus you're using video, which is going to get you more interaction anyway, and I'm highlighting the attorneys.
- 43:48Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly, and people love video over articles and photos.
- 43:52Vipul Bindra: We know that that's been proven, so that's great.
- 43:55Vipul Bindra: And plus, you're using your experience from the past into what you're doing now, so that's incredible and obviously I'm sure they recognize that.
- 44:07Gio Mas: Have you gotten any recognition or anything for doing that?
- 44:10Gio Mas: Like I said, my team is very I like to think of us as a family.
- 44:11Gio Mas: We are very close and everybody's really respectful.
- 44:14Gio Mas: They all want to like make sure that you know your ideas are being listened and you know if it makes sense, we go after them.
- 44:21Gio Mas: Yeah, so, and something I like, something like that is yeah, you know, in the world of law, the promotions are very particular right.
- 44:35Gio Mas: So like if somebody becomes an associate right, that means that you know before that they were a law student.
- 44:40Gio Mas: They had just passed the bar, so that's your first job as an associate, right?
- 44:43Gio Mas: So that's just something that we want to highlight.
- 44:48Gio Mas: And also, like, on the other case, right, if you know you have an associate and now they become a partner.
- 44:53Gio Mas: That's, those are some things that we want to highlight.
- 44:56Gio Mas: So think about it like that you know, if you have an employee and then they randomly become CEO, you want to make sure that you make all the noise that you can.
- 45:04Gio Mas: So people are aware of that, yeah.
- 45:06Gio Mas: So something that we started doing as well is that they were announcing on LinkedIn, you know, when somebody got hired or it's somebody, let's say, there's a law student that has been with the firm for two years, but they've been working as a law clerk, but then they passed the bar and now they got their first official job as an attorney.
- 45:26Gio Mas: That is something that you should be proud of if you're the person right.
- 45:30Gio Mas: So something we started doing is I'm kind of like you're the person right, yeah.
- 45:34Gio Mas: So something we started doing is I'm kind of like working on the name right now.
- 45:36Gio Mas: We used to call it passing the bar testimonials, but right now we're making a little bit more broad, so it's more like elevation testimonials.
- 45:42Gio Mas: But basically we would interview these people, these individuals, and ask them okay you've been with the firm for two years as a law clerk or whatever right, and you've also been going through law school at the same time and they just tell you, like how do you feel about now becoming an associate and getting your first associate role, basically your first job as a full-on attorney?
- 46:02Vipul Bindra: so are you recording these interviews with your phone or zoom?
- 46:05Vipul Bindra: Are you bringing like a proper setup?
- 46:07Gio Mas: it depends yeah, because some of them are in my office and some of them are, well, most most of them, they're just like all around the country, right?
- 46:13Vipul Bindra: So the ones that are in-house, like at your office, how are you doing those?
- 46:18Gio Mas: So we do a basic setup.
- 46:19Gio Mas: So I do a two-camera setup.
- 46:21Vipul Bindra: What cameras are you using?
- 46:23Gio Mas: It depends Because okay, so we have.
- 46:25Gio Mas: I have a Canon R7, which is mine.
- 46:27Vipul Bindra: Okay.
- 46:28Gio Mas: My boss has another Canon, I cannot remember which one it is.
- 46:35Vipul Bindra: I think it's the add uh and then he has to add ancient, ancient technology and behavior works.
- 46:38Gio Mas: But I mean for a b cam.
- 46:40Gio Mas: It's really good.
- 46:41Gio Mas: But and then, uh, he also has two lumix g.
- 46:47Gio Mas: It's one of the newer ones, I can't remember which one.
- 46:49Vipul Bindra: It was h5s and H6s.
- 46:51Vipul Bindra: I think it's H5.
- 46:52Vipul Bindra: Okay.
- 46:54Gio Mas: If I'm not mistaken.
- 46:54Vipul Bindra: I think that those are it, so I guess camera is not a factor, since you don't know them.
- 46:59Vipul Bindra: I'm saying they're not important what camera you're using, because, yeah, it's more about highlighting the content.
- 47:05Gio Mas: The thing is that lately, the videos that I've been making are more online.
- 47:09Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so how do you do those?
- 47:10Vipul Bindra: I'm curious about those.
- 47:18Vipul Bindra: That's really fun.
- 47:18Vipul Bindra: So are you using zoom, recording zoom?
- 47:19Vipul Bindra: Okay, so we use something called riverside.
- 47:20Gio Mas: Okay, yeah, have you heard of it.
- 47:20Vipul Bindra: Yes, yes, I know riverside okay, I'm just gonna add some information, just in case you don't know.
- 47:22Gio Mas: It's great so riverside, pretty much you know, lets you record like whatever it's on the screen, like, you know, audio, video, whatever right.
- 47:29Gio Mas: But the cool thing is that you know sometimes you know, let's say, you're doing a call with like five people and then, as I'm talking, this guy's just drinking water and you can just hear like the water going down and all that.
- 47:40Gio Mas: The cool thing about riverside is that it records every single audio internally.
- 47:47Gio Mas: So, like you know, it records my audio separate from his audio, right, so it makes it so much easier to edit.
- 47:52Gio Mas: So like, let's say, if you know he's talking and I'm interrupting, you can easily cut me off.
- 47:56Gio Mas: So it just just in riverside has just made my workflow so much better and efficient as well.
- 48:03Gio Mas: Yeah, um, so yeah, we use that primarily and we also use vimeo, but that's more for like storage, like yeah, this would be more for what?
- 48:11Vipul Bindra: saving or sharing, yeah, or if we're yeah or if we're doing webinars, you know, if we're doing webinars, since it has a live audience, we just do it over there, yeah.
- 48:21Vipul Bindra: So that's pretty cool.
- 48:21Vipul Bindra: So you're doing a decent amount of video work still.
- 48:23Vipul Bindra: So you know, that's pretty good.
- 48:25Vipul Bindra: And so with Riverside, obviously they're using their own webcam, right, you're just getting the better quality copy that's sent to you that you can obviously use to create whatever content that you're creating, to highlight whatever that you talk about.
- 48:40Vipul Bindra: So that's pretty cool, awesome.
- 48:42Vipul Bindra: So I didn't know that.
- 48:44Vipul Bindra: That's pretty cool.
- 48:44Vipul Bindra: So you're still doing marketing, but you're also kind of tapping into your video skills.
- 48:49Vipul Bindra: That's awesome.
- 48:49Vipul Bindra: So what's next for you?
- 48:50Vipul Bindra: Obviously, you know, know, this is kind of new.
- 48:57Vipul Bindra: I mean, it's not new new, but you've been doing this fairly new less than a year, um, so have you already thought about future?
- 49:01Vipul Bindra: I know we've talked about boston a lot I mean your obsession with boss I don't know why we love florida come on, this whole thing's about orlando but you love boston, so is the plan still to go there, or what are you thinking right now?
- 49:15Vipul Bindra: What's in your mind?
- 49:16Gio Mas: yeah, I mean I'm still planning to move to boston.
- 49:18Gio Mas: Uh, I've changed my time less, a little bit more, um, because things happen in life what's this?
- 49:24Vipul Bindra: first, why are you so obsessed with boston?
- 49:26Vipul Bindra: Huh, I've been there obviously it's pretty many times for shoots, but why are you so obsessed with boston?
- 49:33Gio Mas: um, okay, so first of all, you know, for the people that don't know me, uh, a huge hobby that I've had was always to travel to new places by myself.
- 49:42Gio Mas: Or if I'm not traveling by myself, you know, I just go with one person, uh.
- 49:46Gio Mas: And then you know, I I was.
- 49:47Gio Mas: I took like two or three years where I was traveling a like multiple, multiple times a year, maybe like three or multiple times a year, maybe like three or four times a year, and you know, every time I go to a new city, I just love the city or like it doesn't have to be city.
- 50:00Gio Mas: But every time I go somewhere else I just love that.
- 50:01Gio Mas: I love the experience of going somewhere new, where nobody knows you right where you have so many new things available to you, uh, but that's it.
- 50:10Gio Mas: You know, I'm like, okay, great, I'm here, cool, that's it yeah but, um, this one time I went to boston, for I was there for like a whole week, uh, because I had a marketing conference and I've.
- 50:24Gio Mas: You know, I heard of boston before and I was like, okay, yeah, that's cool, I would like to go there because I know harvard is over there, um, but besides that, I didn't know much about it.
- 50:33Gio Mas: Once I got there, I had the best week of my life.
- 50:36Gio Mas: The best week of my life.
- 50:38Gio Mas: So you're holding on to that week every single level, like if you can ask me like like about 10 different categories of what happened that week.
- 50:46Gio Mas: All of them were like at their peak oh, wow, um and no.
- 50:49Gio Mas: The people I met over there are just like oh my god's, there's something about that city that is so inspirational.
- 50:55Gio Mas: The people there, the culture over there is just it's beautiful.
- 50:59Gio Mas: And I wasn't even gone.
- 51:02Gio Mas: I was there and on my fifth day I'm like looking up apartments.
- 51:06Vipul Bindra: Really On my fifth day.
- 51:08Gio Mas: Like, and I was even thinking, dude, okay, I'm going to go back, I'm going to quit, and then I'm going to come here for like, maybe like three months.
- 51:14Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 51:14Gio Mas: Because at the time my son was not living with me.
- 51:16Gio Mas: So I was like, okay, I'll quit, in like two weeks I'll come here, I'll rent out an apartment for like three months, and then, you know, whatever, because I had another trip coming up and then I had to really really bite my tongue and not do that.
- 51:30Gio Mas: Yeah, thankfully I didn't do it because, you know, after that I just went through like a very uh, uh, unstable phase in life.
- 51:37Gio Mas: So, you know like saving up was really good, a really good choice over there, but no, it's just to sum it up, it's Boston, it's just.
- 51:45Gio Mas: I feel like everybody has their own part in the world yeah and once, if you're lucky enough to even venture out and find it, once you find that, you just know that you're there yeah, kind of like for me, orlando, like I've been enough place.
- 51:57Vipul Bindra: I'm like I just want to come home and that's orlando, and other people shit on orlando, so I get it I get I get it like I said.
- 52:03Vipul Bindra: I don't get it because I've been to boston many times I'm like, okay, it's pretty, but you know.
- 52:08Vipul Bindra: I mean, how many times do I want to look up at a building?
- 52:11Vipul Bindra: I mean, I don't know.
- 52:13Vipul Bindra: And see, that's what I'm saying.
- 52:14Vipul Bindra: So that's pretty cool that we have similar interests but varied choices.
- 52:19Vipul Bindra: So is the plan still to not move back there, or what's the timeline?
- 52:26Gio Mas: Well, I was supposed to move there in about like July, august, 2025.
- 52:30Gio Mas: So, like, basically this year, right.
- 52:32Gio Mas: But scenarios happen and then you again, you just have to make the best out of this.
- 52:37Gio Mas: Yeah, whatever happens, right.
- 52:38Gio Mas: And on top of what happened, um, I was talking to my son about it because again he's coming with me, right, uh, and he wants to finish um elementary school with his friends, so he needs another year for that.
- 52:49Gio Mas: I'm like, yeah, I mean one more year.
- 52:51Vipul Bindra: You know, like pushing about to like may 2026, not the worst yeah, plus, you have this new opportunity right, you don't want to let go because I don't know if they'll let you be remote.
- 53:00Vipul Bindra: I'm not planning on letting go, okay do you think they'll let you be remote or work from boston?
- 53:05Gio Mas: here's the thing.
- 53:06Gio Mas: Here's the thing, and I have high hopes.
- 53:08Gio Mas: I have not mentioned it to my boss yet oh my God, hopefully they're not listening.
- 53:11Gio Mas: Yeah, I hope.
- 53:12Vipul Bindra: I mean, why would?
- 53:13Vipul Bindra: they.
- 53:13Vipul Bindra: This is meant for video people.
- 53:14Gio Mas: Oh my God, I'm not going to share this.
- 53:15Gio Mas: We have an office in Boston.
- 53:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, okay, so hey, look at that.
- 53:21Gio Mas: And the thing is that.
- 53:22Gio Mas: Okay, like I said, we are five people on the marketing team.
- 53:25Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 53:25Gio Mas: My boss and myself are the only ones Okay.
- 53:28Gio Mas: We have the marketing manager.
- 53:30Gio Mas: She works from office, from Miami.
- 53:33Gio Mas: The other two, they work fully remote.
- 53:36Vipul Bindra: Okay, so they don't have anyone in the Boston office, so they could use a marketing person there, I guess.
- 53:42Gio Mas: No, I mean it's the same, it's the same thing Okay.
- 53:43Gio Mas: But I'm saying, like, the other two people work fully remote, so I don't see why there would be an issue.
- 53:47Gio Mas: Like I said, I still have to talk to my boss, but I'm not gonna do it right now because, yeah, because you're a year away from that, yeah, yeah, and I still don't have an exact date.
- 53:57Gio Mas: Right, it's more like, okay, I'm thinking about july, august 2026, but you know, there's so many things that come before that.
- 54:01Gio Mas: There's so many steps that you're gonna take, you know, yeah, I mean you'll be missed here in florida.
- 54:04Vipul Bindra: But hey, I mean, go chase your chase your boston dream I'm I'm gonna be laughing my butt off if you go there three months later.
- 54:11Gio Mas: You're like okay the charm's worn off.
- 54:13Vipul Bindra: You know, because it's charming at first, because, to be real, I moved away too, because that was the thing I was like oh, what's there, Let me go somewhere else.
- 54:21Vipul Bindra: And then when I did, I was like oh, oh, I regret it.
- 54:25Gio Mas: Let me go back.
- 54:25Gio Mas: I've been trying to get out of Florida for like the past 10 years or so, and every time life keeps bringing me back.
- 54:32Gio Mas: Um, I moved out like I moved out.
- 54:36Gio Mas: I moved to montana randomly just randomly.
- 54:38Gio Mas: I think I didn't know you then no, I don't think it was before.
- 54:42Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I, I moved to, which is so crazy, like who just goes.
- 54:44Vipul Bindra: I'm going to montana.
- 54:46Gio Mas: Everybody tells you the same thing.
- 54:47Gio Mas: It's not like, okay, you know, when I'm older, I would like to first move to montana.
- 54:52Gio Mas: No, that never happened.
- 54:53Gio Mas: I think I found out that I was moving to Montana maybe like two or three months in advance, and the thing is that I was supposed to be there for a few months, but once I got there, I was like I was going through that was right after COVID, so it was like early 2021, like around this time, 2021.
- 55:11Gio Mas: So you know people because of COVID and you know the lockdown and quarantine and everything else, um, they were, they had time to reflect on their life and everything else.
- 55:18Gio Mas: So I was going to through a very transitional phase in that time.
- 55:23Gio Mas: So I was like, okay, you know, I think Montana, you know a place that I had never planned to go, I think it just makes sense never plan to go, I think it just makes sense.
- 55:37Gio Mas: So I I went over there, um, with the idea that I didn't want to have an idea at the time of how long I was going to be there.
- 55:42Gio Mas: So, you know, once I got there, I was like, oh, I like this.
- 55:44Gio Mas: I might stay a little bit long, you know, but life happened.
- 55:47Gio Mas: So, as soon as I left, my stepdad passed away here in orlando, and then I was like, oh, I gotta be with my, with my mom, right, help her out, and stuff like.
- 55:52Gio Mas: And then I was like, oh, I gotta be with my, with my mom, right, help her out, and stuff like that.
- 55:55Gio Mas: So I was only there for like three months, uh, and then I had to come back, and then I was supposed to go there like a year after, and then life changed again for the better, though, yeah so it's like.
- 56:07Vipul Bindra: It seems like life's trying to keep you here in florida.
- 56:09Gio Mas: Yeah, yeah and I'm trying so hard to get away from here so hard what?
- 56:13Vipul Bindra: why you don't like us?
- 56:14Vipul Bindra: Is that what it is I do?
- 56:16Vipul Bindra: You're such a great person.
- 56:17Gio Mas: Oh, oh and yet I'm gonna run away I mean, the only, the only thing I do value about orlando is that you know, especially because I'm a single dad we have theme parks and I think that's a great way to yeah, no, I love uh, being able to wind out that.
- 56:32Vipul Bindra: That's like my thing, because, you know, again, I travel so much, I'm working so much, that's like my favorite thing to do and I can take any time off to take my kids to some theme park or somewhere, because, you know, other people have to plan years and years.
- 56:45Vipul Bindra: You know, sometimes for these vacations, versus, we can just hop on and go and have a day thing, hop on and go and have a date, you know like day thing and um, it's like one of the best pastimes, like, um, you know, going to Disney world or to any other universal, whatever theme park.
- 56:59Vipul Bindra: So I love, I think that's a perk of living here.
- 57:02Vipul Bindra: Obviously it is more valid.
- 57:04Vipul Bindra: If you've kids, you know, yeah, uh.
- 57:06Vipul Bindra: So what you do and I do so Are you going to miss that when you move away?
- 57:10Vipul Bindra: I'm sure your son is going to miss that.
- 57:12Gio Mas: I'm trying to think how I'm going to replace that for my son when he's there, you know.
- 57:15Vipul Bindra: Dude, you're always doing something.
- 57:17Vipul Bindra: I have to say, I'm not envious of that many people but, like every time and again, I try to stay away from social media, but every time I'm scrolling, you're always doing something with your son and I'm like you know, I thought I was a good dad and then I started seeing you.
- 57:30Vipul Bindra: I'm like crap, I got to go do something.
- 57:33Gio Mas: Thank you, so it's just good.
- 57:37Vipul Bindra: I mean for being a single dad, having so much work.
- 57:39Vipul Bindra: I think you pay so much attention to your kid and, you know, try to be a good dad, so you know it's obviously amazing to see that.
- 57:46Vipul Bindra: What makes you you know, I don't know do that.
- 57:48Vipul Bindra: I mean mean find time and then prioritize that.
- 57:54Vipul Bindra: How do you manage work-life?
- 57:55Gio Mas: relationship or work-life balance.
- 57:56Gio Mas: You know, yeah, I mean I feel that I'm still in a work in progress when it comes to that, because like you're being humble, like today and yesterday I've I don't want to say ignored, but I've been like working all day in my room because in my room, like, I have my computer, my setup, so that's my kind of like my office.
- 58:12Gio Mas: So I've been locked in my room just working all day.
- 58:14Gio Mas: And it's funny because I was running a little bit late to come here and I was like, oh my God, I just don't want to leave.
- 58:21Vipul Bindra: And he was like no play with him.
- 58:22Gio Mas: So, I was like hey, you want to play for like 20 minutes.
- 58:25Gio Mas: So we started playing Nintendo Switch like really fast for like 20 minutes.
- 58:28Gio Mas: I beat him and I was like, okay, now that I beat you, I'm out I didn't give him a chance to, you know, for redemption.
- 58:34Vipul Bindra: I was like, let this be a lesson of why you don't play against me that's funny I'm trying to praise you as a dad and you're like I didn't know.
- 58:44Gio Mas: No, he has learned, you know it's like you have a long, a long time to to, to go after.
- 58:49Gio Mas: Yeah, so you can beat me, but no, I mean, the thing about me is that um, what game did you play?
- 58:56Gio Mas: Um, it's, oh God, okay.
- 58:59Gio Mas: So he's about to turn 10, so I was like, ah, I think he's it's time.
- 59:02Gio Mas: You know, I think he can play Mortal Kombat.
- 59:04Vipul Bindra: No Mortal Kombat on Switch.
- 59:09Gio Mas: I wanted to get him something portable, because PlayStation, you know, you cannot take it anywhere.
- 59:12Gio Mas: But no, thank you.
- 59:14Gio Mas: Thank you for the praise.
- 59:15Gio Mas: You know, the thing is like you were saying.
- 59:17Gio Mas: I'm a single dad and, oh God, I don't want to like, just like, throw things against anyone, but I do feel the pressure of OK, I also have to compensate for the other part that is not there right now.
- 59:34Gio Mas: And being that you know he's got at least from for me.
- 59:35Gio Mas: He's got no siblings, so it's like, okay, I have to be there for him, right?
- 59:37Gio Mas: I have to make sure that you know if he wants to play with somebody, he's not gonna have anyone if I'm not playing with him, right yeah uh, okay, he has his uncle.
- 59:44Gio Mas: His uncle plays with him sometimes.
- 59:45Gio Mas: But you know like yeah everybody's got their own things going on.
- 59:48Gio Mas: So I mean, it's my son and I'm never gonna be mad about playing with him or taking time to just be with him.
- 59:53Gio Mas: Right, of course I have.
- 59:54Gio Mas: I may have some busy weeks, just like everybody else, uh, but personally I do enjoy spending time with him like a lot, like last night we went to watch sonic on three oh, um, I want to watch that.
- 1:00:07Vipul Bindra: I haven't had a chance to watch it.
- 1:00:08Gio Mas: I'm not a fan.
- 1:00:09Gio Mas: I'm not a fan, but the movie was really nice I had a good time.
- 1:00:12Vipul Bindra: Obviously they listened.
- 1:00:13Vipul Bindra: It would have been terrible before they you.
- 1:00:15Vipul Bindra: You saw that.
- 1:00:15Vipul Bindra: You remember when the initial trailer for sonic one came out and they had the horrible sonic design yeah, no that was so big for marketing exactly, and that is, oh, talk about marketing yeah, that is the best example of how to handle mark like bad marketing.
- 1:00:31Vipul Bindra: Uh, you know, like sony, recently I've been watching where they've been going like, oh, our movies are like our craving and this movies were good.
- 1:00:38Vipul Bindra: It's the, it's the reviewers who are bad.
- 1:00:40Vipul Bindra: I'm like, no, your movies suck those movies everyone's always gonna talk shit about, but unlike sonic, where it was terrible design, obviously, and everyone come I love that yeah, but this company went back and they were like the studio went back or whatever and paid someone to redo it, and then it's been incredible.
- 1:00:55Vipul Bindra: I've loved both the sonic movies, so I'm excited to see the third one.
- 1:00:58Vipul Bindra: I've just haven't had time to see it.
- 1:01:00Gio Mas: Yeah I didn't like the second one, but the third one oh so good, uh, no, but that's something that that always caught my attention.
- 1:01:05Gio Mas: Uh, I don't want to say that.
- 1:01:07Gio Mas: I'm pretty sure they didn't do it on purpose, because the amount of money that they would do, they would like invest in, just like designing like that.
- 1:01:13Gio Mas: But I think that's what made it, you know, very popular the bad design because a lot of people are like, okay, this design is really really bad, so they started making like a little memes online and just like sharing the crap out of it, right?
- 1:01:25Vipul Bindra: yeah, but the company what I was saying is the studio wasn't smart enough to go fix it right.
- 1:01:29Vipul Bindra: They were reactive because there's some studios who would just double down on it, and then they'd be like no, what we?
- 1:01:34Vipul Bindra: Did is good, and then it would have not been.
- 1:01:37Vipul Bindra: What where we are now?
- 1:01:38Gio Mas: yeah, and uh, especially when it comes to like video and all that, especially if you're taking on such a beloved character like that, you have to be open with feedback, with early feedback, yeah.
- 1:01:46Gio Mas: So yes, going back to your point, I think it's great that they took the time to okay.
- 1:01:50Gio Mas: This might not be what makes sense for the audience that grew up, you know, with this cartoon or like game.
- 1:01:57Gio Mas: So they fixed that and I think you know, from there it's just going uphill right, yeah.
- 1:02:02Gio Mas: But my point of view is, I think that most of the popularity that it has that it had with the first movie.
- 1:02:08Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:02:14Gio Mas: Like for me, I was.
- 1:02:15Gio Mas: I mean, I was a kid when sonic was a game, but I never played it.
- 1:02:16Gio Mas: I didn't really care for it.
- 1:02:17Gio Mas: Um, but dude, I went to watch that based solely on the fact that it got shared as a meme oh, really, I was like dude, I want to see how bad this movie is and he was not bad fixed it no, you didn't know that they fixed it.
- 1:02:27Vipul Bindra: So then, what bad were you expecting you?
- 1:02:29Gio Mas: just expected the movie would be bad.
- 1:02:31Gio Mas: Yeah, because I was like okay, you know their marketing, okay.
- 1:02:33Vipul Bindra: So basically I mean that is the thing though people do go watch uh bad movies like for uh, you know, and and that's the thing.
- 1:02:39Vipul Bindra: So I get it.
- 1:02:40Gio Mas: But so I guess my thing was more like curiosity, right?
- 1:02:42Gio Mas: If they fucked up really bad on this character design and they fixed it.
- 1:02:46Gio Mas: Now I'm curious.
- 1:02:47Gio Mas: You have my attention now because you showed me a product that was really really bad to the point where everybody was like bullying you online but, then you fixed it.
- 1:02:53Gio Mas: So I'm curious now what's gonna happen yeah so that like little messed up in the creative process.
- 1:02:58Gio Mas: I think that's what caught a lot of people's attention yeah.
- 1:03:01Vipul Bindra: So I mean marketing.
- 1:03:03Vipul Bindra: Yeah, bad marketing turning into good marketing is a thing you know.
- 1:03:06Vipul Bindra: How would you suggest let's pick your marketing brain?
- 1:03:09Vipul Bindra: So yeah, I mean, hey, you're the marketing guy.
- 1:03:12Vipul Bindra: So here's a video production company.
- 1:03:15Vipul Bindra: You know they want to, they want to promote their services.
- 1:03:17Vipul Bindra: How would you, as a marketing not, don't think, as a video guy, obviously how would you as a marketing guy promote that?
- 1:03:22Vipul Bindra: Or how would you suggest again people listening or me to promote our companies to be different, right?
- 1:03:28Gio Mas: I'm not going to say necessarily as a marketing guy.
- 1:03:30Gio Mas: Uh, because I think, like I said my thing and I've taken a lot of courses on innovation and entrepreneurship right.
- 1:03:39Gio Mas: So the way I approach marketing is primarily innovation.
- 1:03:43Gio Mas: Right, okay, oh, my God.
- 1:03:45Gio Mas: And I have a really good example before I answer that.
- 1:03:47Gio Mas: So okay, you are, you know.
- 1:03:49Gio Mas: Let's say, you have a startup, right yeah, and you're doing video.
- 1:03:51Gio Mas: How many thousands of people are doing the same thing?
- 1:03:52Gio Mas: A okay, you are, you know.
- 1:03:52Gio Mas: Let's say, you have a startup, right yeah, and you're doing video.
- 1:03:53Gio Mas: How many thousands of people are doing the same thing?
- 1:03:56Gio Mas: a lot, especially around here, and you think that because you're making a dance on tiktok, okay, I think that works in some scenarios, right, but people rely so much on tiktok and they might not have the same like an actual strategy.
- 1:04:09Gio Mas: So I've seen a lot of businesses they post like you know, like this, um, viral tiktoks and then they just make their own version and, dude, it works great sometimes.
- 1:04:18Gio Mas: But dude, if your whole like let's, let's talk tiktok specifically, yeah, if your whole tiktok strategy is just going to be doing that, yes, you might get views, you might, and that's mine if you're lucky.
- 1:04:31Gio Mas: If not, it's just going to be like really bad for you, but let's say If you're lucky.
- 1:04:33Gio Mas: If not, it's just going to be really bad for you.
- 1:04:34Gio Mas: But let's say you're getting viewers, you're getting followers on TikTok and then your thing is growing right.
- 1:04:39Gio Mas: What makes you think that?
- 1:04:41Gio Mas: Because, let's say, video, if you do video and then you just show the answers or whatever viral thing you want to do, right Comes up.
- 1:04:48Gio Mas: What makes you think that those followers are relevant to what you do in your business?
- 1:04:53Gio Mas: None, it's just people following you because they like the content and they're like oh, this guy's funny.
- 1:04:58Vipul Bindra: Which is why I'm not a fan of marketing on tick tock anyway, because it helps out a lot yeah, but see, here's my thing and and tell me if I'm wrong.
- 1:05:04Vipul Bindra: That's why I'm so glad, uh, you're here, because to me it's like I'm trying to sell, you know, 10, 15, 20 grand packages to a small business and more obviously, ideally and I don't know how many people are hanging out on TikTok, you know ready to spend that kind of money, they're not.
- 1:05:22Vipul Bindra: And that's a good mindset right there, but they are on LinkedIn, right.
- 1:05:25Vipul Bindra: So that's where my focus is, because that's where my clients are.
- 1:05:28Vipul Bindra: But how would you would you agree, or do you not agree?
- 1:05:31Vipul Bindra: No, I agree, I, but how would you would you agree?
- 1:05:32Gio Mas: or do you not agree?
- 1:05:32Gio Mas: No, I agree, I agree, I think, and, like I said, I don't want to talk in general, but this is more like my personal point of view.
- 1:05:36Gio Mas: I think that every social media is for something Right and again, that's not news Right, but yes.
- 1:05:42Gio Mas: If you want to get high ticket clients, I would recommend specifically LinkedIn or even YouTube.
- 1:05:47Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:05:54Gio Mas: Those are my main, even vimeo, I guess, like some people, I've seen a lot of people do vimeo, um, but I think tiktok and instagram they're both more for like building an audience, uh, but the thing is that unless you're very like niched on the type of content that you're making, you might just get too broad right.
- 1:06:08Gio Mas: So and that that's where I was going with my previous point is that I've seen so many businesses.
- 1:06:13Gio Mas: They just just jump on any any trend any trend they can find this will make something funny, which again, people laugh People on TikTok, they just want to laugh.
- 1:06:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly, I just go on TikTok to waste my time and just see random stuff.
- 1:06:25Gio Mas: So, yeah, sometimes even I follow just like random businesses because they're doing like funny marketing.
- 1:06:29Gio Mas: But I look, I always look and see okay, is this everything that you're doing?
- 1:06:36Gio Mas: Because if you're only relying on this part, you're doing it wrong.
- 1:06:38Gio Mas: It's all about like knowing what to implement and to what extent.
- 1:06:42Gio Mas: And that's going back to my first point of the interview which is marketing parameters, specifically highlighting the brand guidelines.
- 1:06:49Gio Mas: Right and against this.
- 1:06:51Gio Mas: This also relates to the type of business that you're in.
- 1:06:53Gio Mas: Right for some, you might have more leeway, for some you might not.
- 1:06:57Gio Mas: So let's do like an easy example so I can express my point better.
- 1:07:01Gio Mas: Um, let's say okay, let's say you are a video person, and then you're doing oh no, let's say, you're a dancer let's say you're a dancer and you're trying to get more gigs, right?
- 1:07:13Gio Mas: So if you are a dancer or a singer and then you start doing dancing or singing videos on TikTok, people are going to follow you because of your personality, because you know how to dance, because they just like to look at that.
- 1:07:23Gio Mas: You might get some business out of it.
- 1:07:24Gio Mas: Right?
- 1:07:28Gio Mas: But would you do the same thing if you were a lawyer?
- 1:07:31Gio Mas: Would?
- 1:07:32Gio Mas: you want to upload videos dancing.
- 1:07:33Gio Mas: I know lawyers who dance on TikTok.
- 1:07:34Gio Mas: Please do not tell me that.
- 1:07:35Gio Mas: Oh my God, really, yes, I do, dude, no.
- 1:07:38Vipul Bindra: Oh man, it's hilarious and I'm like, come on, I could make you way more money and keep your.
- 1:07:45Vipul Bindra: You know, I don't know integrity or whatever.
- 1:07:47Gio Mas: Here's the thing clients and again like okay, so might be like very like small law firms but, if you know, like a national law firm, if you think about a large national law firm right yeah, what do you think your clients high ticket clients, right are gonna think about this?
- 1:08:03Gio Mas: because, again, like you have to, and it's just a matter of, like, bringing everything into perspective and think about okay, if we decide to go this route, what do we get from that, what do we lose from that and how does the world perceive it?
- 1:08:17Gio Mas: So I think it's just a matter of putting everything into perspective and see that it aligns with what you do.
- 1:08:21Gio Mas: Again, if you do, if you're an artist, you know doing those types of things more casual I think that's great right, because again, you are shedding their own, like your own, spotlight onto you.
- 1:08:31Gio Mas: But if you're an attorney unless, of course, it's your personal, which again, I think, depending on the type of business that you're in, you also want to have your limits in mind.
- 1:08:45Gio Mas: Yeah, but no like, oh my God, oh sorry, no, that's good, no, you're good, oh you're talking too much?
- 1:08:51Gio Mas: No, that's good.
- 1:08:51Gio Mas: So I want to bring it to the type of yeah, no, you're good.
- 1:08:53Gio Mas: You're talking too much.
- 1:08:54Vipul Bindra: No, oh, you're talking too much, huh.
- 1:08:55Vipul Bindra: No, that's okay, obviously.
- 1:08:58Vipul Bindra: Take a time, take a second, but what I want to bring it back to you is the type of people, I think, who this, who are going to be listening to this and benefit from're already a production company, maybe medium-sized.
- 1:09:08Vipul Bindra: What do you think they could be doing better?
- 1:09:17Vipul Bindra: And obviously most of us are trying to reach mid to high-ticket clients, service-based businesses like plumbers, roofing companies or, on the higher-end marketing agencies what would you suggest they could be doing to, um, you know, do do better with their marketing, even a little.
- 1:09:35Vipul Bindra: You know some tips or whatever.
- 1:09:37Gio Mas: Well, first of all, you, if you want to like, do content creation to support your social media and grow it.
- 1:09:43Gio Mas: You have to make sure that, whatever you're pursuing, you know, whatever strategy you want to apply and you're trying to develop, it aligns with the brand, with the brand guidelines and the brand value and what your business is so how do we create brand value?
- 1:09:57Vipul Bindra: where I I just went with my friend and I said I want to do video, how do we create?
- 1:10:02Gio Mas: brand, brand value itself.
- 1:10:04Gio Mas: I think it's it just comes from like customer service and like how you actually perform the service do you think the logo matters?
- 1:10:10Gio Mas: I think to a certain extent right, yeah, yeah, I think because, again, you also want to make sure I was one of the silly ones.
- 1:10:16Vipul Bindra: I just you know, at that time there was no chat gpd.
- 1:10:18Vipul Bindra: I had to find an llc name and I just was like uh, I don't have time for thinking yeah so I'm one and a lot of people have done this pick my last name productions and I don't think it was innovative.
- 1:10:28Vipul Bindra: I could have done better, too late to change now, but for somebody, do you think the name matters?
- 1:10:34Gio Mas: Do you think I'm hurting because I picked the wrong name when it comes to names.
- 1:10:38Gio Mas: I don't have too much experience on that, but what I would say from a personal standpoint is whatever you deliver, you want to make sure that it aligns, that it's good, right, like, okay, I've seen businesses that have like crappy logos but they have great customer service, or they provide great services and they're doing good, but then, on the other hand, you might put a lot of budget into a great design, but then you're locking the other side, which is service.
- 1:11:03Gio Mas: So I think it's just a matter of balancing everything out.
- 1:11:08Gio Mas: The question right, which is what businesses can do.
- 1:11:11Gio Mas: I guess to shine more is, um.
- 1:11:13Gio Mas: One thing I would say for sure it's have all of these considerations in mind, but also try to innovate, and that's one thing that I do want to highlight on tiktok is every time you see like a trend going on, that's a new trend, right.
- 1:11:28Gio Mas: So that means that somebody was thinking okay, what can I do to catch people's attention right?
- 1:11:32Gio Mas: yeah, so if um, oh, oh, my God.
- 1:11:35Gio Mas: There was this one great example that I saw, I think like a year ago.
- 1:11:39Gio Mas: It was like, if I'm not mistaken, it was like a car dealership or like something related to like cars right.
- 1:11:47Gio Mas: And they hired an intern and the intern did, they got a video, like a small video on the phone, like like a 10 second video, very static, they were not moving, or the dealership from the outside, and then they kind of like added some funny music and a cat hovering over the building and the description was hey guys, um, uh, I lied on my resume.
- 1:12:10Gio Mas: Uh, I just got hired, as you know, marketing intern, whatever, and my boss is gonna fire me if I don't get in views.
- 1:12:15Gio Mas: Dude, that guy blew up.
- 1:12:17Gio Mas: Yeah, I swear.
- 1:12:18Gio Mas: I think the account had like almost a million followers and then you would see every single dealership doing the same thing.
- 1:12:22Gio Mas: Now, again, you have to know your parameters on what you're doing, what you cannot do, where you want to go, and all that right, but the thing is that you always have to find new ways to shine, because if you're doing the same thing as everybody, dude, why do I want to see you if I have like thousands of other people doing?
- 1:12:42Vipul Bindra: the same thing right, you might argue personality, right yeah you might argue you know, my business is like well known yeah, maybe it's a better offer, because what I focus on or what I tell people is just make a better offer.
- 1:12:56Vipul Bindra: So, like my offer, for example, is just I'm gonna make you an awesome video.
- 1:13:01Vipul Bindra: I'm not even gonna sell on that, I'm gonna sell on.
- 1:13:03Vipul Bindra: Look, let's figure out what your business problem is and let me solve that right on my mid to lower end clients.
- 1:13:09Vipul Bindra: That's my offer.
- 1:13:09Vipul Bindra: My offer is, you know, let me dig deep and figure out the actual core of your problem and solve that, and then on the higher ones, it's simply just value, right I'm going to charge half the production cost I think for you it's easier because you already have a portfolio.
- 1:13:23Gio Mas: You know you've been established as a business for a couple years now right well, six, seven, yeah, okay, yeah, I wasn't sure.
- 1:13:30Gio Mas: No, you're good, so you already have your track record right like somebody, if you go to somebody, if somebody comes to you, right and they ask you okay, are you different?
- 1:13:36Gio Mas: You already have everything to back up your experience right.
- 1:13:39Gio Mas: But I'm saying like, I guess, like you know, from the point of view of like, distinguishing yourself online.
- 1:13:47Gio Mas: If somebody doesn't know you, somebody doesn't want to go on your website and see all that right, specifically for content creation, like I said, um, there are a lot of businesses that I've seen that they might not go the route of the cat in the funny description right but within their parameters they do a lot of great stuff like uh.
- 1:14:05Gio Mas: One thing that I've been seeing a lot is lawyers physically um, I see a lot of lawyers doing content.
- 1:14:10Gio Mas: You know what they do is they get one of the trending cases online.
- 1:14:15Gio Mas: You know TikTok is always like news and stuff like that, so they grab.
- 1:14:18Gio Mas: You know a trend, you know a trending news, or like a very like, let's say, maybe like you know.
- 1:14:25Gio Mas: I think it varies, because I've seen either like very popular cases lawsuits, or like even small cases, like somebody crashes into somebody else.
- 1:14:32Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:14:38Gio Mas: You know, people can always get on on the phone and then they upload it to tiktok.
- 1:14:39Gio Mas: So what these lawyers do is they just grab any of those, whether it's like a major case or just like something random like that, and then they give their points of view like legal points of view yeah dude.
- 1:14:46Gio Mas: That content to me is great yeah because it shows you know personality, it shows knowledge and it shows how adapted you can be too.
- 1:14:53Gio Mas: Okay, I just saw this.
- 1:14:54Gio Mas: This is what I think on the spot.
- 1:14:55Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:14:55Gio Mas: And then they also add their expertise like the losses, this, whatever, whatever.
- 1:14:59Gio Mas: So one of those categories is like that I've been seeing a lot is you know people get into car accidents and you know sometimes they have the dash cams so people upload those to TikTok.
- 1:15:10Gio Mas: Yeah, so there's this lawyer that I follow.
- 1:15:14Gio Mas: He has his section specifically in the ash cam videos and he opens up with who's at fault.
- 1:15:18Gio Mas: Dude that, oh my god.
- 1:15:20Gio Mas: It's such great content because it teaches you a lot, because sometimes you know, the person that you think is at fault, it's not really at fault legally.
- 1:15:27Vipul Bindra: So, like I said, you know I think so essentially, uh, you want to be innovative, right, innovative, and also show, show your personality.
- 1:15:35Gio Mas: Be innovative, the personality is more like a personal point of view.
- 1:15:38Gio Mas: Yeah, I do think the personality helps out like every single case.
- 1:15:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:15:42Gio Mas: But also you want to make sure that you shine your own spotlight, that you show your expertise.
- 1:15:49Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:15:50Vipul Bindra: So that's my main thing how would a video person show that Just by sharing the videos that they make, because that's what their expertise is right, because it's not like they're a lawyer or anything they can't.
- 1:16:00Vipul Bindra: But maybe they can break down other people's set, like somebody else posted again, if you were talking about that.
- 1:16:04Gio Mas: That's somebody's posting.
- 1:16:06Vipul Bindra: Maybe take that and break it down like how you would, how they did it and how you would do it differently that's a great idea honestly.
- 1:16:11Gio Mas: Okay, well, there you go, somebody should be doing that you can like um, I keep forgetting what the term is on tiktok but you can interact with, like somebody else's video and like add yourself to that, would that be great, like if you can give you.
- 1:16:22Gio Mas: You're like, yeah, you can show that somebody else is set up.
- 1:16:24Vipul Bindra: That's exactly now because now you're coming across as the expert plus um you know you're stealing views from the other guy exactly yeah, and also uh.
- 1:16:32Vipul Bindra: You also can show your personality.
- 1:16:35Vipul Bindra: You can uh show your expertise.
- 1:16:36Vipul Bindra: From what I'm understanding, that seems like a perfect uh you know mashup of uh.
- 1:16:42Gio Mas: You know how you can find success, I guess online yeah, I mean and like, besides all of this, and this is the one thing that always strikes me is the hardest part is like consistency, dude.
- 1:16:52Gio Mas: That's the one thing I always like, always is the hardest part is like consistency, dude.
- 1:16:54Gio Mas: That's the one thing I always, like, always, always, always.
- 1:16:56Gio Mas: It's like you know it's there, Like it's simple to understand but it's so hard to implement.
- 1:16:59Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:17:00Gio Mas: Um, so yeah, no consistency, like you have to keep uploading and uploading and uploading and have a few examples that it's crazy.
- 1:17:07Gio Mas: Okay, um, I have this, uh, one acquaintance in like peru peruvian, by the way um, in 2019, right before the pandemic, he took like three months off and he started traveling inside the country.
- 1:17:22Gio Mas: Um, and it wasn't like any fancy places I think out of like his whole routine there were like one or two fancy places, uh.
- 1:17:30Gio Mas: And then 2020, oh, this guy was not like no video guy he's an accountant, yeah zero video experience, zero editing experience, zero social media experience.
- 1:17:39Gio Mas: So 2020?
- 1:17:41Gio Mas: Uh, I don't know how it was over here, but I got stuck in peru for 11 months on quarantine during covid.
- 1:17:49Gio Mas: It was so bad you could not leave your house but whatever.
- 1:17:52Gio Mas: So basically because the the people were like being told to just not leave their houses for 11 months.
- 1:17:57Gio Mas: You know people, you could see just people trying new stuff right, learning new stuff.
- 1:18:01Gio Mas: I started learning economics and Dutch.
- 1:18:05Gio Mas: Yeah, but this guy, you know he's like okay, I'm going to start posting my videos online, gonna start posting my videos online and, man, you dude, they were the worst videos, the worst.
- 1:18:15Gio Mas: It's like he likes.
- 1:18:16Gio Mas: I want to say like I saw like at least 30 of them there were single take videos five seconds, oh wow building.
- 1:18:21Gio Mas: That's it.
- 1:18:22Gio Mas: So he started doing it as a joke and he made his uh page, his uh profile, public and there's a very like one is, I think he's one of the top mexican youtubers in the world.
- 1:18:32Gio Mas: His name is luisito comunica, which, oh, he's one of the top Mexican YouTubers in the world.
- 1:18:34Gio Mas: His name is Luisito Comunica.
- 1:18:34Gio Mas: Oh, he's the voice for Sonic in.
- 1:18:37Vipul Bindra: Spanish, oh really.
- 1:18:39Gio Mas: Which basically is kind of like Luisito communicates or speaks right.
- 1:18:43Gio Mas: So the guy he changed his name to his name was Aldo to Aldo communicates.
- 1:18:49Vipul Bindra: So basically the same shit.
- 1:18:51Gio Mas: Like, oh my God, that's so great, whatever.
- 1:18:52Gio Mas: But he started doing it as a joke.
- 1:18:52Gio Mas: Who Aldo communicates?
- 1:18:52Gio Mas: So basically the same shit.
- 1:18:53Gio Mas: I'm like, oh my God, that's so great, whatever, yeah.
- 1:18:53Gio Mas: But he started doing it as a joke and then over time he really like grew his audience.
- 1:18:59Gio Mas: Yeah, dude, that guy is just like one day, like you know, he would get, like you know, a couple hundred views, like 200, 300.
- 1:19:13Gio Mas: There's a term on TikTok, called 300 view jail.
- 1:19:15Gio Mas: That is so hard to break away from.
- 1:19:15Gio Mas: So he started posting consistently for months and then this one day he just blew up.
- 1:19:19Gio Mas: But right now he gets flown all over the world.
- 1:19:21Gio Mas: He works with most of major banks, most of major, you know restaurant chains, shopping places in Peru he works with.
- 1:19:31Gio Mas: That guy is just like an influencer at this point, like and he's also a full-time accountant now I don't talk to him uh, we haven't talked in like five, not more, like seven years, but uh, it's just how things happen, because you just keep on doing it and I feel like that applies to everything.
- 1:19:46Gio Mas: Now I have something else to add to that, which is a very similar case.
- 1:19:50Gio Mas: Yeah, while that was going on, uh, I would talk about this one friend to my other friend who was a very close friend, uh, and we were also trying to see, okay, what personal projects can we start?
- 1:20:02Gio Mas: And I was.
- 1:20:02Gio Mas: That's the time where I was deciding if I wanted to do uh travel videos or not right and then I started telling my friend about this other guy that I knew, right, that one I just mentioned, and dude like a year or two years after this one friend that I'm telling you, the close friend, uh, he had a, uh, he was a waiter.
- 1:20:22Gio Mas: Okay, he was a waiter and he had been offered, uh, a position at one of, like the top places to work out in in peru, like as a waiter.
- 1:20:31Gio Mas: So he quits his job, he goes to this new place, he trains for a week and they close the place down, oh, but it's indefinite, so they don't tell you right they told him okay, yeah, it's gonna.
- 1:20:46Gio Mas: It's gonna be two weeks, you know it was something about the license of the place, right.
- 1:20:50Gio Mas: So they told me oh yeah, it's two weeks, you know, just hold on two weeks, I think.
- 1:20:53Gio Mas: I don't know, I don't want to say the exact time.
- 1:20:54Gio Mas: Yeah, it's been a couple years since he told me the story, but I think it was like three, three, four months, five months that the whole place closed down and they kept telling him hey, yeah, next week, next week, next week next week, right?
- 1:21:04Gio Mas: So this guy was desperate for money, yeah, and I don't blame him yeah so what he started doing is he?
- 1:21:10Gio Mas: uh, uh?
- 1:21:11Gio Mas: He started.
- 1:21:12Gio Mas: He downloaded notion, which is an app you know you can customize.
- 1:21:15Gio Mas: So he started doing, um, he created an organizer where, like, let's say, you go out to eat to a new place right, you can like pretty much rank it right, Like customer service, food, everything else.
- 1:21:26Gio Mas: So he created one of those and he started selling it on notion.
- 1:21:29Gio Mas: I was saying he started selling it on ocean right now.
- 1:21:35Gio Mas: He didn't get any sales.
- 1:21:36Gio Mas: I think he had like a good six, and one of those was me.
- 1:21:37Gio Mas: Yeah, but he's like, okay, I have this product that I want to sell.
- 1:21:39Gio Mas: How do I market it?
- 1:21:41Gio Mas: And that, again, that was the, the, the time in which tiktok was like booming, like even more than now.
- 1:21:46Gio Mas: Yeah, so he's like, okay, what I'm gonna do to market this.
- 1:21:51Gio Mas: And again, this guy has zero marketing experience, zero video experience, nothing nothing nothing, all he has is the phone, so he had the organizer and he's like okay, what I'm gonna do is with the purchase.
- 1:22:01Gio Mas: I'm going to give you 30 places that I've already ranked so you can start somewhere, right, okay, if you want to try somewhere new, because the thing is that lima, which is peru, it's um.
- 1:22:12Gio Mas: Lima, the city, the capital, is a city, it's like a big city.
- 1:22:15Gio Mas: It's kind of like, uh, new york or well, not to the point of new york, but there's a lot of things you can do over there.
- 1:22:20Gio Mas: There's a lot of restaurants and people have the same lifestyle where they always want to go out.
- 1:22:24Gio Mas: I feel like orlando's not like that, but basically he's like okay, I'm gonna give you, you know, 30 places in uh, included with your.
- 1:22:30Gio Mas: So you can start like venturing out.
- 1:22:32Gio Mas: So he's like, okay, now that I've added this to the offer and I given it more value, how do I let people know this?
- 1:22:40Gio Mas: So he created a TikTok called um like the translation is uh, top places in Lima, uh, and his, his whole goal was to make one video for each place, so a total of 30 videos.
- 1:22:54Gio Mas: Now, the guy never used his own videos.
- 1:22:59Gio Mas: What he would do is he would go on the like the account social media, like the, the restaurant social media.
- 1:23:04Gio Mas: He would like get like all the videos that they made yeah he would re-edit them and he had zero editing experience yeah
- 1:23:12Gio Mas: and he would just like add like a caption, like oh you know, hidden bar, or like you know, um, something that makes the place stand out.
- 1:23:19Gio Mas: So he's like, okay, he repurposed all that footage.
- 1:23:22Gio Mas: He added like, maybe like one line of text, two lines of text, Uh, he used CapCut, Uh, and yeah, his whole goal was to post one or two a day until the full 30 were up, and then that's it.
- 1:23:34Gio Mas: No more projects From there.
- 1:23:36Gio Mas: Just see if there's any sales.
- 1:23:38Gio Mas: If not, I'll move on right.
- 1:23:40Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:23:41Gio Mas: So the guy posted between one and three every single day until he got to the 30th.
- 1:23:46Gio Mas: He had like 50 views.
- 1:23:48Gio Mas: One like, most of those were me.
- 1:23:50Gio Mas: Then he got to like the 300 jail view uh-huh um, and then day 18th, he went for like 300 views, like 50, 60 000 now and again.
- 1:24:05Gio Mas: He was one of my closest friends in life.
- 1:24:06Gio Mas: Now he's a full-time influencer, just like the other guy yeah just like the other guy and like, okay, he's not as big as the other one yeah but, dude, he makes so much noise online yeah
- 1:24:17Vipul Bindra: and by noise I mean just like a lot of like, yeah, a lot of content, yeah like it's just like he works with businesses, with banks and like.
- 1:24:23Gio Mas: Yeah, like and I'm not trying to like say anything bad against, I'm not saying it for that, but again, the guy didn't go to school for marketing or video you know he's a waiter and he's I think he's still doing that.
- 1:24:34Gio Mas: I haven't talked to him in a few months.
- 1:24:35Gio Mas: Yeah, but he also works with the largest banks.
- 1:24:39Gio Mas: He works with like dolls.
- 1:24:41Gio Mas: He works with.
- 1:24:42Gio Mas: All of these bargain teams are huge.
- 1:24:44Gio Mas: And why?
- 1:24:45Vipul Bindra: because he just like so you're trying to tell us we need to uh be consistent, or you you trying to tell us we need to go on TikTok.
- 1:24:54Gio Mas: I mean, I'm just saying, I think it's a matter of being consistent, which for me is the hardest part.
- 1:25:00Vipul Bindra: No, I completely agree with that, though that's exactly what I say.
- 1:25:03Vipul Bindra: It's about being consistent.
- 1:25:04Vipul Bindra: You know, the biggest thing is finding your passion, which, hopefully, if you're listening to this, it's video or something related to video and then just pursuing it A first doing it and then keep doing it over and over again.
- 1:25:16Gio Mas: First, doing it Like you have to venture out and keep on doing it Because again, like to me, it makes sense, because again I've been trying to grow my YouTube channel which.
- 1:25:26Gio Mas: I'm not posting too much, but I love doing YouTube, but when I do like TikTok, I don't like that.
- 1:25:30Gio Mas: I don't like that.
- 1:25:31Gio Mas: And I've been trying to grow it for like two years and I post one video and then I don't post for like four months.
- 1:25:35Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:25:35Vipul Bindra: Well then you know, I know, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:39Gio Mas: But what I'm trying to say is you know it's I understand the other point of view, right, because it's happening to me like okay why am I going to get there?
- 1:26:00Vipul Bindra: and my idea is and we've obviously on the other podcasts, we have shared the my belief, I believe, all in the handshakes, the old school method of going out there, boots, on the ground, meeting the people.
- 1:26:11Vipul Bindra: Especially if you're trying to sell high-ticket items, people want to know who you know people buy from, who they know like and trust.
- 1:26:18Vipul Bindra: So go out there and meet people.
- 1:26:19Vipul Bindra: But there is an online way of doing it.
- 1:26:21Vipul Bindra: You can do it, this modern way where you can use TikTok, you can use Instagram, you can build an audience, and I had Ben on the podcast and he laid out exactly how to you know, run ads and close big deals on instagram.
- 1:26:35Vipul Bindra: So there, there is this online way and I think, um, I like your way, which I think is very similar to to what I'm saying.
- 1:26:42Vipul Bindra: My thing is just be consistent with on in-person thing.
- 1:26:44Vipul Bindra: You're just saying the same thing, just do it with online.
- 1:26:47Gio Mas: So as long as you're consistent, right, you do it over and over again, eventually you'll you'll hit your stride and you'll find success uh, my point of view uh is, honestly, man, do whatever works, and with that what I mean is don't just stick to social, like you were saying also in person.
- 1:27:06Gio Mas: All of that, like whatever efforts you think you can manage at the same time, try to pursue all those but, of course, like make sure it's all aligned yeah um, I know you were just mentioning ads, that's so good as well, right, but that's more for a business, not for an individual well, yeah, because, but that's what we're focusing on right either an individual trying to be a dp or an individual trying to be a production company, or, either way, how to get.
- 1:27:29Vipul Bindra: Because the whole point that I want to change is either the mindset of starving artist or b you're sure you're now your production company, you're no longer starving, but you're still like not finding the success.
- 1:27:39Vipul Bindra: Where you know you what, where you want to be, you're not independent, you're.
- 1:27:43Vipul Bindra: You haven't achieved that.
- 1:27:44Vipul Bindra: You know six-figure income that people want to achieve doing this, and to me that there's multiple ways of approaching that right, and one of the ways is that you talk about, you can become an influencer, and but then you have to pick the right platform and then you have to be consistent, right, otherwise they're not going to find success yeah, I mean, I was trying to lay out an example based on, you know, growing an audience, not necessarily being an influencer, more like growing your audience for you know, like having your own community, because that helps either way.
- 1:28:15Gio Mas: Like I don't know if you have had the chance to see duolingo's social media, no the duolingo social media.
- 1:28:21Gio Mas: They have like the best content.
- 1:28:23Gio Mas: It's so funny and they are.
- 1:28:24Gio Mas: They're always innovating yeah that's um.
- 1:28:26Gio Mas: That's why a lot of people look like in the marketing world.
- 1:28:29Gio Mas: They look up to duolingo because of everything that they're doing, okay.
- 1:28:33Gio Mas: So there's this funny thing that they do, and again duolingo itself like their brand.
- 1:28:39Gio Mas: They allow, like they allow themselves to have more creative freedom and more fun with that because, again, like it's all about, okay, it's about learning languages, but how do you want to empower people to learn languages?
- 1:28:52Gio Mas: Because a good example that I can give you against that is rosetta stone yeah that's how I learned english when I was a kid.
- 1:28:59Gio Mas: Rosetta stone, like, I'm pretty sure if I never saw any marketing for them, but the program itself.
- 1:29:03Gio Mas: No fun, right duolingo?
- 1:29:05Gio Mas: They always innovate the app and they always innovate.
- 1:29:07Gio Mas: You know social media, so I've seen duolingo just do like a lot of stuff, like you know.
- 1:29:14Gio Mas: Have you ever had duolingo?
- 1:29:15Gio Mas: No okay, so duolingo pretty much.
- 1:29:17Gio Mas: You know you do one session a day okay and it's so funny because usually, um, they would send you like before right, they would send you like um, if you didn't do your daily session, they'll send you like a notification right and then now on iphones you can see like that kind of like the icon right and then duolingo's icon is a bird.
- 1:29:35Gio Mas: It's a green bird, a green owl.
- 1:29:36Gio Mas: So what they did because they were seeing that the, the pop-ups, they were not having as much effect anymore the reminders they decided to make duolingo cry or duolingo mad or just like having like really ugly, yeah, and that blew up.
- 1:29:51Gio Mas: People started using it more um the reminder started working again, and then they just created more like ways to catch people's attention, right yeah uh, and the thing is that it's very unique because, okay, one thing that they do that I think it's very dumb, but I think it's really funny because it works with what they're doing is the birds name is duo.
- 1:30:13Gio Mas: So what they do is they started following dualipa and then they, uh, I think it was dualipas, no, no, it was some somebody else's.
- 1:30:21Gio Mas: But basically, you know, uh, every time dualipa had a concert, they would have somebody stand outside dressed up as dual, holding a sign, right.
- 1:30:30Gio Mas: So the whole lore over there was that, you know, duolingo, dualipa.
- 1:30:34Gio Mas: So then they started pursuing like more avenues, like that, right yeah basically trying to have, like, uh, more presence live as well, not as online.
- 1:30:44Gio Mas: So like I don't know who the artist was, but basically, yeah, they made like an internal thing right where I think some of the employees they wanted to go to a concert yeah and they wanted the company to pay for it.
- 1:30:55Gio Mas: Yeah, so I don't know who gave him the permission, but they were like okay, we'll pay for all of you to go like first row in like a very popular artist concert, but you'll have to go dressed up as Duo Dude.
- 1:31:05Gio Mas: The media coverage they got from was insane.
- 1:31:09Gio Mas: You can just see like seven owls in the front yeah and then the artist started laughing.
- 1:31:14Gio Mas: They're like oh, that's my dual reminder.
- 1:31:16Vipul Bindra: So that's what's saying.
- 1:31:17Vipul Bindra: Yeah, so viral marketing is obviously very helpful.
- 1:31:20Vipul Bindra: I completely um agree with you.
- 1:31:22Vipul Bindra: Um, uh, my whole thing is how obviously I've created try to create, obviously, viral marketing for my clients.
- 1:31:28Vipul Bindra: How does a?
- 1:31:30Vipul Bindra: Uh, the main thing for me is how does a video guy, especially somebody's you know not that successful in this go about creating viral marketing like that, because they they're not going to have that large of an audience, right?
- 1:31:44Vipul Bindra: so their first, I think nobody does when they yeah so the goal should be first to create, to grow your audience right before you try something like that well, okay.
- 1:31:52Gio Mas: So if we were to put it like in step by step, what I would do first is I would define okay, brand, what do I want my brand to to reflect?
- 1:32:01Gio Mas: Then, from there, once you have your brand guidelines because I think you must have a brand- guideline because if not, you're not gonna, it's just gonna go too broad yeah brand guidelines.
- 1:32:10Gio Mas: You know you have to know how you do things like okay, so let video what's yours, your stronghold, right?
- 1:32:18Gio Mas: what's the one thing you want to point out to the audience.
- 1:32:20Gio Mas: So, once you have, you know, the brand values, the brand guidelines, everything that you want to show, right and then you know that you're doing a good job with your services.
- 1:32:27Gio Mas: I would recommend finding a user persona which is basically okay, I'm creating content around this one person that I make.
- 1:32:34Gio Mas: That, I think, aligns with everything that I do and everything that I want to portray yeah right now I can go a little bit deeper into this and like go ahead please uh, just highlight, like analytics and all of that, but I think for somebody starting out that has no analytics- like let's say, one is, like you know, having all these things in mind that I just mentioned, right, having your user persona, uh, creating kind of like a, a whole list of the content that you want to make.
- 1:32:59Gio Mas: But you have to have a reason why.
- 1:33:00Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:33:01Gio Mas: Like I said, how is this going to look coming from me if I want to dedicate to this?
- 1:33:05Gio Mas: Um, and, like I said, this depends on the type of business that you're running or the type of business that you're in, but if we're doing video, I think you have some more creative leeway.
- 1:33:13Gio Mas: What I would do is I would start the easy way.
- 1:33:18Gio Mas: What are other people in the video community?
- 1:33:21Gio Mas: doing first step, because that's easy, easy content for you right now.
- 1:33:25Gio Mas: From there, once you're used to like doing some content, what I will do is I will start innovating.
- 1:33:29Gio Mas: Okay, now that I'm doing this, that's doing.
- 1:33:32Gio Mas: What can I do to shine Right?
- 1:33:34Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:33:35Gio Mas: To differentiate myself.
- 1:33:36Gio Mas: So I like what you said before about, like you know, um, doing kind of like a collaboration in somebody else's video, like giving your point of view and all of that, but you always have to make sure that you have diversity in content, because if you post the same thing every single day, it's just going to get boring.
- 1:33:53Gio Mas: Um, I would also reflect back on the values of, okay, showing your expertise, having fun, show your personality, but you have to do all those in a way that it makes sense collectively, right?
- 1:34:04Gio Mas: Um, again, that's the one thing I like about marketing, because you can go so many different ways.
- 1:34:09Gio Mas: There's not like a one right answer to it right uh, but I would recommend you have all of these considerations in mind.
- 1:34:16Gio Mas: Um, you know, and then you like a must.
- 1:34:19Gio Mas: You have to know.
- 1:34:19Gio Mas: Okay, why am I using each social?
- 1:34:23Gio Mas: Media because, like I said, you know, linkedin is for one thing, facebook is for one thing, instagram is for one thing, tiktok is for one thing yeah so you want to know which ones you want to pursue the most and why.
- 1:34:35Gio Mas: Like, where are you going to get out of it?
- 1:34:36Gio Mas: And then the other ones can.
- 1:34:37Vipul Bindra: You can grow as well, right, but you have to prioritize, yeah absolutely, and and my experience you know, having grown this video business, uh, technically, like you said, you could pick one and and focus on it and get success out of everything.
- 1:34:49Vipul Bindra: There's always exceptions, but but primarily what we people, at least that are, you know, um what we're doing, which is, um you know, corporate and commercial video production.
- 1:35:00Vipul Bindra: These type of clients are more going to be active on LinkedIn.
- 1:35:04Vipul Bindra: And that's where your focus should be and obviously, now that we've seen that it can be done on Instagram, that could be your second focus.
- 1:35:10Vipul Bindra: I We've seen that it can be done on Instagram.
- 1:35:13Vipul Bindra: That could be your second focus.
- 1:35:14Vipul Bindra: I don't know about TikTok.
- 1:35:15Vipul Bindra: Facebook is another potential platform.
- 1:35:15Vipul Bindra: Facebook is good for groups.
- 1:35:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:35:17Vipul Bindra: And especially that's where a lot of the older audiences and that's who tend to be CEOs and marketing managers.
- 1:35:23Vipul Bindra: But you've got to pick the platform where who you're targeting.
- 1:35:27Gio Mas: Based on your intent.
- 1:35:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, based on your intent, yeah, and for me, like we're trying to target, you know, high ticket, high value clients, and those don't tend to be on TikTok typically.
- 1:35:39Gio Mas: And if they are, they're looking for entertainment.
- 1:35:41Vipul Bindra: They're not down for, you know, buying high ticket items on.
- 1:35:43Vipul Bindra: Tiktok, because they're buying this cheap Timo, crap, right, whatever TikTok is pushing nowadays, whatever whatever tiktok is pushing nowadays, um, so anyway, but yeah, that's at least my.
- 1:35:57Vipul Bindra: What I've been telling people is you know focus, you know your efforts and then be consistent.
- 1:36:00Vipul Bindra: And then also what you just added I think it'll help a lot is is to build, you know an audience, figure out who you're marketing also know your resources.
- 1:36:09Gio Mas: Yeah, exactly that's one thing also know your resources see what you're able to do and resources they come in a lot of ways right like.
- 1:36:16Gio Mas: It might be something physical, like equipment in your case, but it might also be like staff yeah time right um another thing that I want to add, I think pain point can be another good one you know we've talked about, like the pain point, the person that you're targeting right
- 1:36:32Vipul Bindra: like, hey, are you which again, I would recommend anyone interested in running uh going to that, listen to ben's podcast too, but uh, the one that we did, um, essentially, um, you know like, hey, are you a service?
- 1:36:45Vipul Bindra: Uh like going hyper local with it.
- 1:36:47Vipul Bindra: Like, are you a service-based business?
- 1:36:49Vipul Bindra: You know in ocala, um, you know, and are finding trouble finding clients online, or something he said it better, obviously and then offering you know a solution for that, like I, I help client, you know business, service-based business owners in ocala find their audience right, or something like that.
- 1:37:06Vipul Bindra: Then you have a clear, defined offer yeah uh, and then you can hyper target, you know, your, your social media, to what you're trying to achieve because, um, like I've told my clients in the past, so I'll give you an example where I found success.
- 1:37:19Vipul Bindra: So I've had a big clients who are builders, right, they're trying to sell um luxury, like, let's say, a builder that a client of mine, that's like a luxury custom home builder.
- 1:37:28Vipul Bindra: They want to build homes in millions of dollars, right?
- 1:37:31Vipul Bindra: So their client base is different.
- 1:37:33Vipul Bindra: Now I could go and make multiple videos for them and get them thousands and thousands of views, but what matters their ROI is as long as we can sell one custom home that was not going to come it's going to be the ROI.
- 1:37:47Vipul Bindra: So I'm like we're not chasing views, we're chasing how can we make a video that their client is interested in, right?
- 1:37:53Vipul Bindra: And so our goal is not what would typically be for marketing, which is like, oh, we need to get this as mass market as possible.
- 1:38:02Vipul Bindra: And we're like how can we go hyper local?
- 1:38:04Vipul Bindra: And I've had so much fun doing that because now we have to get into the mindset of their typical buyer and hyper-target that.
- 1:38:12Vipul Bindra: So the videos may sometimes end up with only 80 to 100 views, but they're qualified leads.
- 1:38:17Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and they've made millions and millions of dollars, so sometimes that can be a way of generating huge revenue.
- 1:38:24Gio Mas: Well, just to add on what you were saying about Ben's example, right, okay, he starts a video saying you know business owner, whatever you know color, you know why that works?
- 1:38:32Gio Mas: Works because you're segmenting yeah, your audience yeah you're segmenting your audience without running out well is he running out?
- 1:38:40Vipul Bindra: okay, because I've seen people do that online, but social as well.
- 1:38:43Gio Mas: He's doing it both ways, uh, and he like I said I loved how he broke it out everything um how he does it, yeah but basically the whole point of that is, by adding that first line in your video, doesn't matter if it's um, organic or non-organic, you're segmenting your audience because, okay, let's go to the example that it was organic, right?
- 1:39:03Gio Mas: So you have no control of who sees it, right?
- 1:39:04Gio Mas: If you see that and then you don't belong to that group, you're like, okay, this is not intended for me right now with ads you can, of course, control more of those scenarios and you don't belong to that group.
- 1:39:13Gio Mas: You're like, okay, this is not intended for me right now with ads, you can, of course, control more of those scenarios and you don't know, uh, who it is going to and stuff like that, right.
- 1:39:18Gio Mas: But that's why it works okay, because you can qualify the.
- 1:39:21Vipul Bindra: Yeah, you're qualifying them.
- 1:39:22Gio Mas: Yeah, people know that it's like okay if I'm not included in this group, why am I gonna watch this?
- 1:39:27Vipul Bindra: and of course that's more like an organic side of things yeah, which is, which is at least a side of places where I am, because my thing is, hey, here's, here's who I help, right, I help businesses and marketing agencies.
- 1:39:38Vipul Bindra: So if you're not that like, you're not my target audience, I I'd rather you not you know, I'd rather not waste um costs in running ads or whatever, and building an audience that isn't, that has nothing to to gain out of, uh, out of what I'm doing or what my focus is or my expertise is yeah, um, something else.
- 1:39:58Gio Mas: Yeah, something else that you can do with that and that I think it's a must right, especially specifically if you're local.
- 1:40:03Gio Mas: I think that's where you get the most value.
- 1:40:06Gio Mas: Is seo, dude seo, like a lot of people don't believe in that, because the thing is SEO opposite to ads.
- 1:40:13Gio Mas: Ads once you pay for it, you're there, right.
- 1:40:16Gio Mas: What happens when you stop paying?
- 1:40:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, they stop working.
- 1:40:19Vipul Bindra: You're not there.
- 1:40:21Gio Mas: SEO is the other way around, right?
- 1:40:22Gio Mas: You start investing your efforts first and you build towards that, right.
- 1:40:26Gio Mas: So the whole goal of course, you have to know exactly what you're doing, but the whole point is that you know you're doing all these efforts, so you're basically think about about it like you're fixing all these little things right to the point where, once you know you've done it for a while, all this is already going to be fixed, like everything, right.
- 1:40:45Gio Mas: Yeah, so what happens over there?
- 1:40:47Gio Mas: It's not like you're going to get deranked on a day, unless there's like a major update on google, right, but no, it's just like you're building towards it and most of the time, you stay up there unless you, yeah, and, and showing up on page one of google is incredibly uh beneficial because a lot of people don't even go to page two.
- 1:41:05Vipul Bindra: They're just video person or videographer in orlando or whatever your city is, and that's all they're searching.
- 1:41:12Vipul Bindra: So being on page one can be very, very beneficial, but then you need people like Gio right, somebody who is an expert at SEO, to optimize that, which brings me to the important question I want to know.
- 1:41:24Vipul Bindra: So let's say again, a video person's listening to this or I'm listening to this, and we understand the power of seo.
- 1:41:32Vipul Bindra: I think it's like you hit, you know, nail on the head, like it's the one of the best things you can do.
- 1:41:36Vipul Bindra: How much kind of, what kind of money are they looking at?
- 1:41:40Vipul Bindra: Because that's what people want to know to invest into seo, because you know that's also a rabbit hole.
- 1:41:47Vipul Bindra: So I want to know what would you suggest they budget for, at least so to give them idea, a range of what it would cost to get SEO done for them.
- 1:41:56Gio Mas: Oh my God, I've heard so many different budgets.
- 1:41:59Gio Mas: This one time we were trying to outsource SEO to a company right, this was with a previous employer and I think we interviewed like three different businesses and the difference between all those three like the prices were were immense.
- 1:42:14Gio Mas: Like one of them was charging us like 15,000 for the first month and then like 10,000 for the following months, which was insane, but honestly it depends if you're looking for an agency or if you're looking for an individual, because there are some like freelance SEO contractors that are really really good Right.
- 1:42:29Vipul Bindra: Um.
- 1:42:31Gio Mas: I would.
- 1:42:31Gio Mas: It really depends on the budget, right?
- 1:42:34Gio Mas: I would really suggest an agency, because they tend to have more resources and more people.
- 1:42:41Gio Mas: The thing about SEO and the thing that's hard for me with SEO is that some of those things to fix might be a little bit too technical to the point where you need a web developer.
- 1:42:50Gio Mas: So that's one thing that these agencies have.
- 1:42:54Gio Mas: They usually have an SEO team and they also have web developers that can also help with the more technical side of things.
- 1:43:00Gio Mas: I don't want to throw numbers, but it's really not cheap.
- 1:43:06Gio Mas: Yeah, so you're saying this?
- 1:43:07Vipul Bindra: is inaccessible to somebody who's starting out.
- 1:43:10Vipul Bindra: You would say it depends on the results that you want to have, because I mean they want to be hyper local.
- 1:43:20Vipul Bindra: Let's go where, where we are right, like I want to be, or somebody wants to be best in atlanta orlando, new york or whatever they're trying to get on first page.
- 1:43:26Vipul Bindra: Should that be even an avenue somebody new should be pursuing, or wait?
- 1:43:31Vipul Bindra: sorry, say that again, so so somebody uh, I'm saying most likely listening this day they're they would start with the, their local market.
- 1:43:38Vipul Bindra: So, like new york, atlanta, orlando, they want to just come up in the and somebody types videographer in orlando, they how.
- 1:43:45Vipul Bindra: They want to come to first page.
- 1:43:47Vipul Bindra: So seo, like you mentioned, is expensive.
- 1:43:50Vipul Bindra: So is that something should they even pursue in the beginning, or should they focus on ads or other avenues like that that we're discussing?
- 1:43:56Vipul Bindra: I'm saying is seo viable for somebody who's new yeah or small.
- 1:44:02Gio Mas: I'm trying, I'm trying to come up with a number.
- 1:44:03Gio Mas: But I would say ads are not really that helpful if your website looks like ass.
- 1:44:08Gio Mas: Your website has to be really well optimized yeah and that's the whole point of seo.
- 1:44:12Gio Mas: Um the the the thing about seo is that, yes, it focuses on on-page seo, which is really good uh, you also have your technical fixes right, but then, um, a lot of a big part of seo.
- 1:44:25Gio Mas: It's think about it like content creation, but for the website, which is basically all your articles and all that you have to make sure that you're always putting new things, because that's what makes you say relevant.
- 1:44:34Gio Mas: So it's a.
- 1:44:34Gio Mas: It's not just as easy as okay.
- 1:44:36Gio Mas: I want to view in the first page yeah, it's a whole science.
- 1:44:38Gio Mas: There's a lot of things behind seo and that's where I'm trying to calculate a number, I would say a good number, starting out for an individual, maybe like 1500, which is very low end, very, very low end, but that is doable, maybe for somebody you know.
- 1:44:54Gio Mas: It depends on the amount of work that they're doing, but if it's an individual, like an SEO contractor, is that even worth it?
- 1:45:00Vipul Bindra: though, is that going to get them any significant result?
- 1:45:03Vipul Bindra: It?
- 1:45:03Gio Mas: depends, because, okay, here's the thing that I want to highlight If you're going to, if you want to jump on SEO and then you want to do it for one or two months, don't even bother.
- 1:45:10Gio Mas: Seo takes at least six months to to provide results, and that's why a lot of people struggle yeah specifically like business owners, when they want to, when they're considering it, and then they hear the whole pitch, the pitch and the description and they're like yeah somebody says, oh, but by the way, it's not going to be like an overnight result it should take like five to six months.
- 1:45:29Gio Mas: Sometimes it takes a little bit shorter, sometimes it takes a little longer Because, again, it also depends on how big is your website and how many competitors are in your area.
- 1:45:37Gio Mas: It's a whole thing to consider, but I do think it's worth it, though.
- 1:45:41Vipul Bindra: Just know that if you do want to go into it, I would allocate money and budget for like a few months, so that may be something once you're getting to the stage where you're making you know over six figures or whatever.
- 1:45:53Vipul Bindra: And now you want to go to the next level.
- 1:45:54Vipul Bindra: Maybe that's when you start to focus on SEO.
- 1:45:56Gio Mas: I mean you can always start on a lower scale.
- 1:45:58Gio Mas: You can always hire somebody and just do a couple of hours a little bit of optimization every month and that's still going to get the ball rolling.
- 1:46:06Gio Mas: You might not be given the number one results that you want, but it it doesn't mean that your website is not going to be doing better than yeah, what it?
- 1:46:15Gio Mas: has been before.
- 1:46:16Gio Mas: Um, but you know, I do think that seo is like a primary thing.
- 1:46:20Gio Mas: Um, and going back to what you were saying, if it's a local business, dude the amount of business you can get from local seo, it's insane yeah and if you want to pair it with that yeah, even better.
- 1:46:32Gio Mas: That's incredible, yeah, and that's why I'm saying that you have to pursue multiple efforts yeah, not just one thing, right?
- 1:46:37Vipul Bindra: no, that makes you have to think about.
- 1:46:38Gio Mas: Okay, how do I?
- 1:46:39Gio Mas: A good example is social media, right, and I think that I keep bringing it back because I feel like that's the easiest way to explain it.
- 1:46:48Gio Mas: Right, you have all these social medias, right?
- 1:46:51Gio Mas: If I want to be you know, if I want to grow my audience, do I just want to put all my eggs in one basket or do I want to diversify?
- 1:46:58Gio Mas: Think about it like that, but with everything marketing, so like seo, you know, website updates, social media ads, all of that right?
- 1:47:07Gio Mas: So that's that's how I like to see things.
- 1:47:09Gio Mas: I you have to diversify to the point where you can still manage everything properly right and to the point where your assets and your resources allow it.
- 1:47:18Vipul Bindra: Have you played with?
- 1:47:18Vipul Bindra: Do you have any experience with PR and stuff like that, Because I know that can be effective.
- 1:47:22Gio Mas: A lot of people have huge experience.
- 1:47:23Gio Mas: Pr is expensive.
- 1:47:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah, PR is very expensive.
- 1:47:26Vipul Bindra: They can do some stuff Magic.
- 1:47:28Vipul Bindra: Yeah, a good PR agency?
- 1:47:30Gio Mas: obviously I don't have experience with pr, but I do the way I see.
- 1:47:35Gio Mas: My current job is as media.
- 1:47:37Gio Mas: So kind of like a surprise, because that's what I do basically it's almost like a like a news channel.
- 1:47:42Gio Mas: So, like I said, any like important law changes that are that happen, we post about it yeah any um, um, you know verdicts any winning verdicts that we have, we post them, we post about it.
- 1:47:56Vipul Bindra: So the way I see my job is basically as media as press yeah or the law firm um so you know, pr companies can put you on uh news channels and magazines and they can get you a different kind of exposure.
- 1:48:10Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I don't know if that's necessary, obviously for again being people.
- 1:48:13Gio Mas: It helps to build authority and credibility, yeah exactly.
- 1:48:16Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's what you're trying to do.
- 1:48:18Gio Mas: And you can even do it with a CEO to a certain extent.
- 1:48:20Gio Mas: You know backlinks, but that goes to your website.
- 1:48:22Gio Mas: Yeah, exactly, and it helps out a lot too.
- 1:48:24Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's so intriguing to me public relations and everything.
- 1:48:30Vipul Bindra: The other thing I want to know is obviously, before these new endeavors that you've been on, you were obviously for some point considering being an entrepreneur, starting your own marketing agency.
- 1:48:41Vipul Bindra: Do you?
- 1:48:41Vipul Bindra: Now, now that you obviously want to learn more, you're doing these multiple positions, Do you?
- 1:48:47Vipul Bindra: Is that still back in your mind?
- 1:48:48Gio Mas: Is that in it?
- 1:48:49Gio Mas: You want to scratch Always?
- 1:48:49Vipul Bindra: always always.
- 1:48:50Vipul Bindra: So do you see that happening now, or at least what's?
- 1:48:53Vipul Bindra: What's your train of thought?
- 1:48:55Gio Mas: uh, uh, that hasn't changed I do like that's my end goal in life.
- 1:49:00Vipul Bindra: I want to have my own business and a marketing agency to be, to be exact.
- 1:49:06Gio Mas: So I want to the thing is that I don't know if I should say this, but the way I've come up is I have family that invest in businesses.
- 1:49:18Gio Mas: They're not technically entrepreneurs, but they invest.
- 1:49:21Gio Mas: So that's kind of what I want to do.
- 1:49:24Gio Mas: I would like to have my business, but I also I guess the end goal of everything is to have a really good business, but also to be an investor in other businesses, create that passive income.
- 1:49:32Gio Mas: I guess the end goal of everything is to have a really good business, but also to be an investor in other businesses, right, create that passive income.
- 1:49:36Gio Mas: You know I do like marketing and I do feel like I that's something that I can achieve, but I'm not trying to pursue it right now, because I see a lot of people start businesses and I think it's it's completely normal to you know, start a business and not know what you're doing and then figure things out as you go.
- 1:49:54Gio Mas: I think it's completely natural, but not to the point where you don't even know basic stuff.
- 1:49:59Gio Mas: I think there's a limit to how much risk you can take.
- 1:50:07Gio Mas: I think, you have to have some somewhat controlled risks when you're going into entrepreneurship.
- 1:50:14Gio Mas: So the whole point is to just like lower that risk as you go, and my thing is I want to open up a marketing agency or something like that.
- 1:50:23Gio Mas: You know it can be an SEO agency, it can be a marketing agency, but first I feel like I want to learn from mentors.
- 1:50:30Gio Mas: And that's my whole thing right.
- 1:50:33Vipul Bindra: No, that's actually very smart and that's exactly the advice I give to you.
- 1:50:37Vipul Bindra: Know, any person who wants my advice is first, you have to get your craft right.
- 1:50:42Vipul Bindra: You have to be good enough or you're confident enough that you can deliver.
- 1:50:45Vipul Bindra: Feel like you can.
- 1:50:52Vipul Bindra: And it's not to you, but I'm just saying in general.
- 1:50:54Vipul Bindra: If somebody's like I can't deliver, like your, your offer is to solve business problems through video and you're not ready to make those videos yet and you're not ready to be at the budgets where you can hire other people to do it, because that's another way of doing it right and then first obviously improve your craft.
- 1:51:07Vipul Bindra: But once it's there, at some point you have to do it right, because there's never really the right time.
- 1:51:12Vipul Bindra: At some point you have kids, something else is going in your life, there's probably an economy is going bad, a pandemic is coming.
- 1:51:20Vipul Bindra: I'm saying there's always going to be something that could be a reason to not do it.
- 1:51:24Vipul Bindra: So at some point you just have to go and do it, and that's like the first part of it.
- 1:51:29Vipul Bindra: Kind of bringing it back to what we were talking about.
- 1:51:31Vipul Bindra: First you have to start doing it, then you have to be consistent at it, and most people, you know, give up before, and that's why majority of the businesses fail within the first year and then the rest in the first five years.
- 1:51:42Vipul Bindra: Because most people give up, you know, because there's going to be challenges, obviously, but success is just right after there.
- 1:51:52Vipul Bindra: So so, yeah, that's the only thing I would tell people is like make sure at some point you do it, you know, because time is never going to be right.
- 1:51:58Gio Mas: Yeah, for me it's.
- 1:51:59Gio Mas: The thing is that I also, like I said, I have that as a goal, but it doesn't mean that it's my only goal.
- 1:52:04Gio Mas: Yeah, I do value, you know, getting to work with different teams and learning from them, as well as mentors and just.
- 1:52:11Vipul Bindra: Yeah, and you're learning from such a large brand right, You'll be able to take that to your own brand.
- 1:52:16Vipul Bindra: Add it to my portfolio.
- 1:52:17Vipul Bindra: Add it to my resume.
- 1:52:18Gio Mas: So I'm I'm in that point right now.
- 1:52:19Gio Mas: I'm just trying to build, uh, my expertise, get my name out there, um, but a big goal of mine before I jump into to actually like being entrepreneurs, to get my MBA.
- 1:52:30Gio Mas: So I'm working towards that right now.
- 1:52:32Gio Mas: So yeah, I mean, like I said, once I have my MBA.
- 1:52:35Gio Mas: I'll just you know, I don't see why not right, I can get a full-time job, but I also so, at these positions have you had to deal with?
- 1:52:42Vipul Bindra: are you on the other side?
- 1:52:43Vipul Bindra: Because, like I said, my other side is dealing with marketing people in companies.
- 1:52:47Vipul Bindra: So since you are one now in a company, have you had to hire freelancers for them or not yet?
- 1:52:52Vipul Bindra: Because I know, it seemed like you were focused on LinkedIn and other stuff, so you've not had any interaction finding freelancers.
- 1:52:58Gio Mas: Not for this one.
- 1:52:58Gio Mas: For this job, we haven't hired any freelancers.
- 1:53:01Vipul Bindra: Well, when you do, I would love to get that perspective on what marketing people are looking for and how they're vetting freelancers and stuff like that I've.
- 1:53:10Gio Mas: I um, I didn't do the hiring, but I was part of the meetings for um some of the previous hires for my previous company.
- 1:53:17Gio Mas: Those were freelancers.
- 1:53:19Gio Mas: There was one meeting in which I was not involved okay they hired a guy I don't know from which state to do ads.
- 1:53:26Gio Mas: Okay, dude that guy, you can tell it's just like full scam really full scam, oh my god I know he got fired.
- 1:53:34Gio Mas: He wasn't like part of the business, he was more like a freelancer, like I said, but the guy was really good at talking.
- 1:53:39Gio Mas: That's the whole thing why he?
- 1:53:41Gio Mas: Got hired, so it's just, I don't know.
- 1:53:43Gio Mas: You always have to see something right.
- 1:53:45Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:53:45Gio Mas: You always like.
- 1:53:46Gio Mas: If you, if somebody is going to speak about something, you'll think about it like a legal case right if you're going to make claims, you have to have backup.
- 1:53:52Gio Mas: You have to show how you're going to support those claims.
- 1:53:55Gio Mas: That's with evidence right portfolio uh, as well, as you know, any testimonies from everybody anybody else that knows you like.
- 1:54:03Vipul Bindra: It's just a matter of like having all those things to bug you out, because I can say a lot of things yeah but just because I say it doesn't mean that's true please don't say something you can't do, because you'll get caught Dude and in marketing it happens so much, and that's the thing that I was trying to say at the first part of the video.
- 1:54:19Gio Mas: Like people.
- 1:54:20Gio Mas: I'm going to say this specifically to marketing, but I noticed that people in marketing tend to like at least the ones that I've encountered.
- 1:54:28Gio Mas: They tend to just want to show that they know everything Like dude, this is such a big field?
- 1:54:34Gio Mas: You don't have to be cool to like tell people that you know everything yeah it's.
- 1:54:37Gio Mas: It's okay to say okay, yeah, I know this, I might not know, yeah, everything there is to know about this other part, but just be honest, because again it's just communication goes a long way, like you said, yeah, and it makes your life easier and plus, like I said, at least in video, there's another way.
- 1:54:54Vipul Bindra: So obviously, know your craft, don't oversell, deliver and like how our relationship started, if you're just up front about communication, most people wouldn't care.
- 1:55:02Vipul Bindra: You know that they'd be willing to work with you because you were up front about it and there was open communication.
- 1:55:08Vipul Bindra: But the other way is remember um.
- 1:55:11Vipul Bindra: As long as you're getting good in marketing and sales, you can always hire people to execute on it yeah, because this is a collaborative
- 1:55:19Vipul Bindra: industry, so there's so many people out there you can bring on to your team and for that specific project who can help you execute it.
- 1:55:26Vipul Bindra: Just don't don't do either like if you don't either and you you f up the project.
- 1:55:31Vipul Bindra: Then you know that's very easy way to like, you said get fired.
- 1:55:35Gio Mas: The thing is that people can be so proud sometimes and, dude, it's like I said it's good that you want to do things, but also you have to be willing to be open about okay, this is the area that I focus on.
- 1:55:47Gio Mas: It doesn't mean that because I know marketing, I know everything.
- 1:55:49Gio Mas: There is no yeah so, like I said, it comes more from like a like a personal thing with people that they just want to show I'm man, you know, I know everything and I don't think that should be yeah, that wouldn't go, yeah, and that I don't think that's the way to find success.
- 1:56:02Gio Mas: And also, like I like what you were saying about outsourcing.
- 1:56:04Gio Mas: Um, it's just better, because usually when you outsource like one thing to like one person right, they tend to be hyper focused on that specific right.
- 1:56:13Gio Mas: So, for example, um, I hate website design.
- 1:56:16Gio Mas: I hate with all my life website design.
- 1:56:20Gio Mas: Um, and funny enough, because I have to do like I have to deal with websites all the time because I do seo.
- 1:56:24Gio Mas: But the technical aspect of that, like the, the things that web developers have to do sometimes that gets tossed at me and I don't know how to do most of it.
- 1:56:32Vipul Bindra: What CSS and stuff?
- 1:56:33Vipul Bindra: Dude, I don't know, I don't know how to do all that.
- 1:56:35Vipul Bindra: I'm like dude.
- 1:56:35Vipul Bindra: I'm here to optimize the website.
- 1:56:37Vipul Bindra: I'm here to optimize this.
- 1:56:39Vipul Bindra: That's it, yeah.
- 1:56:40Gio Mas: So basically, yeah, like, if I know somebody that likes doing that, why am I even going to part?
- 1:56:57Gio Mas: Yeah, like I.
- 1:56:57Gio Mas: I like I said, going back to what I just said, right now, I hate web design and I'm so bad at it.
- 1:56:59Vipul Bindra: Yeah, um, I don't know, if you recall, I think, uh, I sent it to you.
- 1:57:00Gio Mas: I made a newer website sometime in like 2023 probably, yeah, and it was so bad and I swear I spent like two months just working on it, every single day, and I was never happy with it so you didn't follow your own advice, you didn't hire an expert.
- 1:57:08Vipul Bindra: Yeah, I was like.
- 1:57:09Gio Mas: I was like I kind of want to try it, see what I can do with this.
- 1:57:12Gio Mas: And, dude, at the time I was like interviewing with like businesses and I was just not getting anything.
- 1:57:19Gio Mas: So then I was like, okay, I found this one guy on TikTok who did like a lot of content around website design.
- 1:57:25Gio Mas: I was like, let me reach out to him.
- 1:57:27Gio Mas: What, what am I going to lose?
- 1:57:28Gio Mas: He did my website.
- 1:57:30Gio Mas: I got a job like a month after and the website it looks so good right now.
- 1:57:34Gio Mas: Exactly See, that's what it's about.
- 1:57:36Vipul Bindra: It's about finding the right people and, hopefully, becoming the right person.
- 1:57:41Vipul Bindra: If that's what you're trying to be marketing or video, or photographer or whatever I think honing your craft or surrounding yourself with other people with good craft is very essential and then, obviously, I think, being consistent in putting yourself out there because you have to obviously start somewhere, right Is, I think, the right way to find success.
- 1:58:05Vipul Bindra: But man, this has been awesome.
- 1:58:07Vipul Bindra: I can't believe two hours is already over.
- 1:58:08Vipul Bindra: It goes by fast.
- 1:58:10Vipul Bindra: So before we go, I before we wrap things up, I did want to ask you if there's I don't know.
- 1:58:15Vipul Bindra: We've been on so many shoots together.
- 1:58:17Vipul Bindra: Um, you know, if you, I don't know if you wanted to remiss on anything, or if you have any stories to tell people.
- 1:58:22Gio Mas: I don't know, something funny uh I don't know I got um, I got a couple um the one thing I don't know, I just keep to my mind yeah, no so we, we were doing a shoot and it was one of the ones he mentioned earlier uh, in the villages, right?
- 1:58:38Gio Mas: uh, so everything was well, you know, with the shoot.
- 1:58:39Gio Mas: Uh, so this story doesn't really relate to the actual, like working part of the of the day, but during the, the lunch break we decided.
- 1:58:47Gio Mas: During the lunch break, um, I guess we did a a poll on where we should go to eat, and I think it was like five of us, right?
- 1:58:56Vipul Bindra: Yeah.
- 1:58:56Gio Mas: So I don't know who.
- 1:58:58Vipul Bindra: Emmanuel.
- 1:58:59Gio Mas: I don't know who.
- 1:58:59Gio Mas: Emmanuel Said you guys want to do Chinese food, and he picked out this one restaurant.
- 1:59:05Gio Mas: Who?
- 1:59:05Vipul Bindra: Emmanuel.
- 1:59:06Vipul Bindra: None of us had been there before.
- 1:59:08Vipul Bindra: Who's been on?
- 1:59:09Vipul Bindra: this podcast by the way.
- 1:59:12Gio Mas: Oh, had been there before.
- 1:59:13Gio Mas: Who's been on this podcast, by the way?
- 1:59:14Gio Mas: Oh my god, I hate that guy.
- 1:59:15Gio Mas: Um, yeah, so he picked out a restaurant because he was the one with the phone right and he's like, hey, why don't we go over here?
- 1:59:19Gio Mas: So we're like, okay, yeah, bet chinese food.
- 1:59:21Gio Mas: So we get there.
- 1:59:23Vipul Bindra: And then we find out the guy didn't read the reviews it was like the worst thing ever, and at first it looked good, because you know, when they're rude to you at a chinese restaurant, you're like oh, this is a good place.
- 1:59:34Vipul Bindra: So she started out being a little rude and I'm like oh, it's gonna be a good food, but then, no, the food sucked, man.
- 1:59:40Vipul Bindra: What's funny?
- 1:59:41Vipul Bindra: What's funny is we ordered four different things and everything tastes the same.
- 1:59:47Vipul Bindra: It's like, come on, like it's just, they just put it in there.
- 1:59:50Vipul Bindra: Okay, this is sesame chicken, it's the orange chicken it was the same thing, just whatever.
- 1:59:53Gio Mas: Whatever they want to tell you didn't even bother to make a different order, it's just the same thing.
- 1:59:59Gio Mas: So yeah, but you know he lied to us, right he?
- 2:00:02Vipul Bindra: because we asked him hey, whichever has better review yeah, no, he said it was 4.9 or whatever it wasn't that it was the other one yeah, and then yeah exactly, he just wanted chinese food yeah, see, that's why I don't trust like I have trust issues from that day.
- 2:00:17Gio Mas: um, I mean from there I guess, the other uh funny story, um, uh, well, it wasn't really funny, I guess.
- 2:00:26Gio Mas: Now that I'm looking back at it, do you remember the, the one day where we had to do the I don't, I'm not gonna say the business yeah, the whole like event that we did a couple of videos, a couple of videos, yeah.
- 2:00:37Gio Mas: And they were like two days after, and then I was editing until like 5 am every single day.
- 2:00:41Gio Mas: Oh really.
- 2:00:42Vipul Bindra: Oh my goodness, yes, I remember so yeah, you were editing Talk and we didn't get too much into your edit, which you're a great editor.
- 2:00:49Vipul Bindra: But I still remember it was like five, it was a last minute project.
- 2:00:52Vipul Bindra: I still remember I'm going to Vegas, I'm boarding the flight, while I'm telling you the project scope, because I'm like Gio, I need you to edit this, and I'm telling you the scope and I'm like, literally, boarding, they're like get on the plane.
- 2:01:04Vipul Bindra: It was like seven videos.
- 2:01:08Gio Mas: Yeah, it was a what do you say when they give out like prizes?
- 2:01:15Vipul Bindra: Oh yeah, like an award gala it was an award gala.
- 2:01:18Gio Mas: So we had to make sure that everything got you know ready before then.
- 2:01:21Gio Mas: But yeah, this one night I think it was like the night before it was due and again I was editing like seven videos at the same time.
- 2:01:35Vipul Bindra: so I think that night I was up until like 2 30 and honestly, guys, uh, it's 10 pm and I just want to go to bed.
- 2:01:38Vipul Bindra: Yeah, that's how I am, and I remember the beat was off.
- 2:01:39Vipul Bindra: I still remember being on the call and I, you know julie's the beat person so she's like on the phone, going like, like making the beat.
- 2:01:46Vipul Bindra: I was genuinely on the back like rolling, laughing, because I'm like what is happening?
- 2:01:50Vipul Bindra: It's like middle of the night and she's, which I mean I get the point because she was trying to get, yeah, the car, it changed, but you know the time when you're just like it's so late at night and you've been editing for like 20 hours that it just like reality just becomes non-existent.
- 2:02:05Gio Mas: Dude, everything started to shift to me.
- 2:02:06Gio Mas: So it was like 2, 2, 30.
- 2:02:08Gio Mas: I finished all the videos and I sent it over to him.
- 2:02:10Gio Mas: And I, dude, I hate this.
- 2:02:11Gio Mas: I hate this.
- 2:02:12Gio Mas: I sent it over to him so I turned, I closed my mic.
- 2:02:17Gio Mas: I was like people here, I'm done.
- 2:02:18Gio Mas: I closed the mic like that.
- 2:02:19Gio Mas: I put it aside.
- 2:02:21Gio Mas: I was like, oh my god, I'm tired, I go to my bed.
- 2:02:24Gio Mas: I put the cover on.
- 2:02:26Gio Mas: I close my eyes five seconds after he's like hey, gio, he did that like four times that night I was like timing doesn't match and no, the funny thing is that.
- 2:02:37Gio Mas: The funny thing is that every time I send you the update, I would do the same thing I would close the mac, I would lie down, I would sleep for 20 seconds and then I would get a call from you saying hey.
- 2:02:51Vipul Bindra: Oh my God, so you're telling people not to edit for?
- 2:02:53Gio Mas: me.
- 2:02:54Gio Mas: Oh, my goodness, you're making me seem like a no, I didn't say that.
- 2:02:57Gio Mas: No, you don't have fun, but it's just a funny story.
- 2:03:00Vipul Bindra: But to be real, you know and all I know, and I think there was glitches to conceit.
- 2:03:05Vipul Bindra: This is why I'm like don't edit on Final Cut or Resolve.
- 2:03:09Vipul Bindra: Edit on final cut or resolve premiere.
- 2:03:10Vipul Bindra: There was having some issues because I know you were making the changes, they weren't coming through or something I don't know.
- 2:03:14Vipul Bindra: The point is it was funny, it was just the the cuts.
- 2:03:17Vipul Bindra: Some of the cuts were not adding to the beat and that's what I'm saying it was so hilarious.
- 2:03:20Gio Mas: It was the middle of the night.
- 2:03:21Vipul Bindra: But what's funny is like I just remember that julie be be like to you and I'm like I could just picture in my head.
- 2:03:29Vipul Bindra: I'm like I can't imagine Geo's face.
- 2:03:34Gio Mas: And the funny thing is that with the first two, like no.
- 2:03:37Gio Mas: After the second one I was like yeah, he's not going to call me and I was actually enjoying my 22nd nap.
- 2:03:41Gio Mas: And then I was like, oh God, but to be real, I don't want to say you edited them great.
- 2:03:47Vipul Bindra: There was not time.
- 2:03:48Vipul Bindra: The reason to be real, real.
- 2:03:48Vipul Bindra: I don't do that with other editors it was literally three days.
- 2:03:51Vipul Bindra: I, funny enough, I had just come back from vegas or whatever when they were due yeah, no, they gave you a last minute warning.
- 2:03:57Vipul Bindra: Yeah, exactly, so we were basically uh, yeah, like they said, the client was like shoot today literally flew to vegas to do a different thing, flew back because it was just go do the thing, come back the next day, and that was but we got it done.
- 2:04:10Vipul Bindra: The event was literally the next day, so we had no choice but to work that.
- 2:04:13Vipul Bindra: No, you got it done, man.
- 2:04:14Vipul Bindra: You wait seven.
- 2:04:15Vipul Bindra: You edited seven videos.
- 2:04:18Gio Mas: Um, in like four, three, four three, four days at most yeah, three days, but it was fun though I like I like doing uh for that client specifically.
- 2:04:25Vipul Bindra: I think it's really fun I still remember, uh, I felt so bad, I sent you some extra money and you were like dude why'd you send me extra?
- 2:04:30Vipul Bindra: I was like I was like dude this is nothing.
- 2:04:32Vipul Bindra: I feel bad no, I was like this is nothing.
- 2:04:34Vipul Bindra: You've put in so much extra effort.
- 2:04:36Vipul Bindra: Uh, because I didn't realize, you know, um, we were gonna have to spend that extra time or whatever.
- 2:04:40Vipul Bindra: But no, you were trooper, you edited well, which is why I mean, we worked many, many times after that, but that is now you say that a fun, fun experience but, hey, the events show.
- 2:04:49Gio Mas: They love the videos obviously we partner with them over and over again.
- 2:04:53Vipul Bindra: You came back again, if you remember, earlier this year to do similar videos.
- 2:04:57Vipul Bindra: Uh, no, this year, well, yeah, 2024.
- 2:04:59Vipul Bindra: I keep missing.
- 2:05:00Vipul Bindra: It's the last year it happens.
- 2:05:01Vipul Bindra: You know I'm time blends but, anyway, um, I want to really appreciate you taking your time out, coming out and talking to us, sharing your marketing expertise, and you're just just talking in general, man yeah you're.
- 2:05:14Vipul Bindra: You're a great friend.
- 2:05:14Vipul Bindra: Uh, and again, like I said, we've hung out so much, so it's just cool to now finally record one of these conversations and um, um.
- 2:05:23Vipul Bindra: So again, thank you for coming, geo, uh, before we go, do you want to shout out your instagram or something?
- 2:05:27Vipul Bindra: Where can people go follow you?
- 2:05:29Gio Mas: yeah, well, first of all, thank you so much for inviting me.
- 2:05:31Gio Mas: Uh, I had fun, you know I think it's uh.
- 2:05:34Gio Mas: Well, first, it's nice to see you again.
- 2:05:36Gio Mas: I think it's been like what a month, a few months since, because I was building out.
- 2:05:39Gio Mas: So yeah, three months I had pretty much, I bought the home, because that's when we met.
- 2:05:44Vipul Bindra: We were, we did that shoot, the shoot, and then two-day shoot and then I basically went on a different project, closed on the house and then I've been just stuck either doing projects or building this so that's why we haven't been we talked on the phone, uh, but we hadn't met in person in a few months so it's good to catch up right yeah, yeah, yeah, no, definitely.
- 2:06:02Gio Mas: So, yeah, I mean, if you guys want to follow me, please follow my youtube channel.
- 2:06:06Gio Mas: It's uh travel and I'm also trying to do more interviews, basically just like entrepreneurship and stuff like that.
- 2:06:12Gio Mas: So it's Gio Morer G-I-O-M-O-R-E-R, so it's going to be right here.
- 2:06:18Gio Mas: No, it's not going to be here.
- 2:06:19Vipul Bindra: Yeah, because it's live.
- 2:06:20Vipul Bindra: Yeah, G-I-O.
- 2:06:21Vipul Bindra: I mean, I could figure it out.
- 2:06:22Vipul Bindra: No, it's fine.
- 2:06:26Gio Mas: G-I-O-M-O-R-E-R on YouTube.
- 2:06:27Gio Mas: I have one last request too.
- 2:06:29Gio Mas: Can I press the button?
- 2:06:30Vipul Bindra: Yes, I don't know if they can hear it, but please, oh, really, yeah.
- 2:06:33Gio Mas: Okay, there's a high button over here.
- 2:06:35Vipul Bindra: You can bring it to your mic.
- 2:06:36Gio Mas: Yes, yes, but I've been wanting to do this since I sat down, oh hey, if you're wearing headphones, lord, you're welcome.
- 2:06:41Vipul Bindra: Yeah, yeah, get away from the.
- 2:06:47Vipul Bindra: Yeah, gio, this you know.
- 2:06:49Vipul Bindra: Okay, this is I use this, so this is also my zoom setup.
- 2:06:51Vipul Bindra: Come on, you know I'm lazy, but I use this when I I close a deal or whatever, so I go wait, so you do it, so you do it live well, no yeah, I do this after the call ends.
- 2:07:03Vipul Bindra: Dude you know if it's, especially if it's a big deal it's like my headbutt anyway sorry for whose ears we rang right now.
- 2:07:11Vipul Bindra: Yeah uh, but no man again.
- 2:07:12Vipul Bindra: This was a pleasure, thank you again for coming and it's just good to catch up with you, and I'm so happy you're finally doing what you want to do.
- 2:07:19Vipul Bindra: So thank you again, geo.
- 2:07:20Vipul Bindra: Thank you for having me.
