- 2:57Speaker 1: let's get into this interview Man Gashy, episode number thirteen.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It's the Blue Leg Cab podcast, Yo, Man Blutleg Cab
- 3:05Speaker 1: Podcast with special guests, whose new project nineteen eighty four
- 3:09Speaker 1: is officially out everywhere. So Homie Gashy, Yo, what's up?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Thank you for having me. Let's talk about the eighties, bro.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I just want to start off because I've been listening
- 3:20Speaker 1: to your project and it is truly nostalgic. Yes, in
- 3:25Speaker 1: every capacity. I saw you riding around in the old
- 3:28Speaker 1: school bends. Yeah, and the DeLorean, the DeLorean, I got
- 3:31Speaker 1: the bands, I got the Royce, the Rose Royce. Nineteen
- 3:35Speaker 1: eighty four. What year were you born in? I was
- 3:38Speaker 1: born in I'm a nineties baby, okay, yeah, because I
- 3:41Speaker 1: was born in eighty seven, so I don't even remember
- 3:43Speaker 1: the eighties. Yeah, so what why the eighties? Basically, I'm
- 3:51Speaker 1: in love. I love movies, you know, I love movies,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and I have my favorite movies, you know. And one
- 3:59Speaker 1: thing that I found myself, so so I stopped doing
- 4:05Speaker 1: drugs for a while, okay, and I'm proud of myself.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I don't for a while. Does that mean you're like
- 4:12Speaker 1: doing them again now? No, it means for a long time.
- 4:17Speaker 1: I haven't done them, okay, and congratulations, thank you so much.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And I feel like I found what I found my
- 4:27Speaker 1: drug and it was John Hughes movies. Oh wow, pretty
- 4:33Speaker 1: in Pink. Yeah, I think so just like those eighties
- 4:38Speaker 1: movies for the Breakfast, the Breakfast, Club, Fire, all the
- 4:42Speaker 1: just just like all those movies, even Home Alone, you know,
- 4:45Speaker 1: like all those movies, you know, and they make me
- 4:50Speaker 1: feel like when I was an immigrant in a different
- 4:52Speaker 1: country because I'm not from America, so when I was
- 4:58Speaker 1: in a different country. I would watch The Ta as
- 5:00Speaker 1: a kid and be like, Yeah, I wish I lived
- 5:02Speaker 1: in a house. I wish I had all these family
- 5:07Speaker 1: members running around. I wish I had like a kitchen,
- 5:09Speaker 1: a refrigerator in the microwave, and my own room and
- 5:13Speaker 1: stuff like that. And that was like my dream to
- 5:16Speaker 1: have that, Like that was always my dream. And I
- 5:22Speaker 1: watch sorry about that. I watch and listen. I watch
- 5:26Speaker 1: and listen to eighties music to feel like a kid,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and that's my drug. So I eat a lot of food.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I have a lot of random sex. Okay, so random sex,
- 5:41Speaker 1: food and eighties movies with eighties music. And that's what
- 5:44Speaker 1: got me to nineteen eighty four. And I did nineteen
- 5:47Speaker 1: eighty four twenty fifteen, I just never put it out,
- 5:50Speaker 1: So this is a five year old album. Now. It's
- 5:55Speaker 1: funny because the eighties have such a like distinct sound,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and I would almost argue that, like the popular consensus
- 6:05Speaker 1: might be that eighties music might maybe is aged worse
- 6:09Speaker 1: than most other decades of music. H wouldn't you say, like,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I don't know, but but it's just I think it's
- 6:16Speaker 1: dope because obviously it was a very brave and you
- 6:24Speaker 1: like like you did a whole album. Yeah. You know
- 6:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying, Like, you really committed, bro, Yeah, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: mean you know, twenty twenty is the new nineteen eighty four,
- 6:33Speaker 1: and I'm glad I put it out now. I remember
- 6:37Speaker 1: you telling me the story about how you heard Rosenberg
- 6:42Speaker 1: play your song. Yeah, Like it's almost like at the
- 6:46Speaker 1: tipping point of whether or not you're gonna keep going
- 6:48Speaker 1: one hundred percent. I was gonna drop out. You're gonna
- 6:51Speaker 1: you were taking the trash out or something, right, and
- 6:52Speaker 1: I was gonna drop out. I was gonna, no, well
- 6:55Speaker 1: not drop out. I was gonna quit music and go
- 6:57Speaker 1: back to college. Then you heard it on real late. Yeah,
- 7:02Speaker 1: So my mom had a My mom had the thing.
- 7:06Speaker 1: My mom had a night shift and I was driving
- 7:08Speaker 1: her a Sunday night shift twelve o'clock and while driving her,
- 7:12Speaker 1: the song came on on the radio. It was like
- 7:14Speaker 1: a sign and it was just like your mom was
- 7:17Speaker 1: in the car. Yeah, she was in the car with me. Oh,
- 7:19Speaker 1: that's gotta be crazy. Yeah. And then the feeling of
- 7:21Speaker 1: it was so amazing that I was like, yeah, I
- 7:23Speaker 1: loved the feeling so much. I was like, this is like,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know, the younger me is so nuts, like I
- 7:28Speaker 1: was crazy, Like I was so crazy. I understand, like
- 7:33Speaker 1: the way I was thinking then, I laugh, I really laughed, Like, yo,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I feel the same way. Sometimes you just think back
- 7:40Speaker 1: to just the shit that you were, like that you
- 7:43Speaker 1: the way you would act, or the thoughts that used
- 7:45Speaker 1: to go through your head when you were like nineteen twenty,
- 7:47Speaker 1: Like damn, well, who the fuck was I back then? Man? Exactly?
- 7:50Speaker 1: So embarrassing, you know, it is so fucking crazy. I
- 7:53Speaker 1: literally thought that I was going to be like the
- 7:55Speaker 1: biggest fucking rapper in the world at one point. I mean, shit, man,
- 8:00Speaker 1: keep chipping away, dog, No, I'm done. No, I mean artist, Well,
- 8:05Speaker 1: I am going to be the biggest artist. Yeah, that's
- 8:07Speaker 1: a different story. But I thought I was gonna become
- 8:10Speaker 1: a rapper. Yo. Man, you guys gotta you gotta get
- 8:13Speaker 1: RCA in line over there. I thought they dropped the
- 8:15Speaker 1: ball on that my Year record something crazy, bro. Yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I thought that ship was a fucking slam dunk. I
- 8:21Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, this is the one that's
- 8:24Speaker 1: going to push him over. Yeah, Like, how does Urcay
- 8:26Speaker 1: fuck this? What up? I think it's like a perfect
- 8:29Speaker 1: example of there's certain times when like labels just don't
- 8:32Speaker 1: know how to work certain artists. Yeah, and I feel
- 8:35Speaker 1: like they don't know how to work you, and it's
- 8:37Speaker 1: like it's I'm kind of glad they didn't. That's fair
- 8:41Speaker 1: because then you would have been in that box. Yeah,
- 8:43Speaker 1: you would have been into my year box. Fuck that ship.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Like it's been two years since my year. That's crazy, right, Yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 1: it has been been almost two years. Yea, yeah, it's
- 8:52Speaker 1: been two years is my year. But I get booked
- 8:55Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty one hundred to one hundred and
- 8:57Speaker 1: fifty thousand dollars for one night, one one New Year
- 9:00Speaker 1: night to perform that song Solomon helps you with that out. Yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 1: that's my that's my brother. I've known fifteen years. That's
- 9:08Speaker 1: my guy. So we get paid like the biggest bags
- 9:11Speaker 1: on New Years to perform that song. So I have
- 9:14Speaker 1: a song even though I'm like like a singer now artist,
- 9:17Speaker 1: now pop artist, I still get booked to perform that
- 9:21Speaker 1: one record. So I'm like, I'm like Mariah Carey on
- 9:25Speaker 1: Christmas on New Year's because Mariah Carey, what was the
- 9:29Speaker 1: name of that one chick that had the graduation record?
- 9:33Speaker 1: What was that? What graduation? That song? It's like that's
- 9:42Speaker 1: like the graduation song, and that's like her only record.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But it's like, you know, but you still play it
- 9:48Speaker 1: there forever. It's like a song that will be there
- 9:50Speaker 1: forever that my years exactly. So my year started a
- 9:55Speaker 1: year after it came out. Started the baseball champion start,
- 10:00Speaker 1: the baseball season, ended the baseball season at the championship started,
- 10:04Speaker 1: the basketball season, ended the basketball season's championship. So no
- 10:08Speaker 1: matter what you say, it's gonna be my year, It's
- 10:10Speaker 1: gonna be my year forever. So I will forever have
- 10:14Speaker 1: that song put money in my pockets and my family pocket.
- 10:18Speaker 1: It's beautiful, man. Yeah. But going back to what I
- 10:20Speaker 1: was saying, I was, you know, I I fell in
- 10:25Speaker 1: love with feeling like a kid again. And I made
- 10:32Speaker 1: this album twenty fifteen, and I made it for myself.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I didn't want to share it with the world. It
- 10:38Speaker 1: was kind of like my Xenax was like me, just
- 10:42Speaker 1: every time I would go through my problems, I would
- 10:45Speaker 1: play the record. I'd be in my house, I turn
- 10:48Speaker 1: on an eighties movie. I'd make like a new tell
- 10:50Speaker 1: a sandwich and feel like a kid with no problems,
- 10:55Speaker 1: and that would get me through life. COVID happened, everyone
- 11:01Speaker 1: hit rock bottom. I felt it was right to put
- 11:04Speaker 1: this out, and it's been the greatest responses I've ever
- 11:10Speaker 1: had in my entire career for any project, any song
- 11:13Speaker 1: that I've ever released. And I've released a lot of
- 11:15Speaker 1: songs that've gotten me a lot of me for a
- 11:18Speaker 1: couple of years. Yes, they've gotten me a lot of love,
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know. But I've went platinum, you know, on records,
- 11:24Speaker 1: I've went triple platinum or records I've I've done so
- 11:28Speaker 1: much and I'm still treated like an underground artist, which
- 11:32Speaker 1: I love. And the door because I don't want to
- 11:35Speaker 1: be the number one artist. Then everybody forgets about and
- 11:40Speaker 1: no one cares about because you know, the number one
- 11:43Speaker 1: artists are not cool and the artists that are number
- 11:47Speaker 1: one are not played at the parties I attend. So
- 11:50Speaker 1: and that's something that I learned from a guy named
- 11:52Speaker 1: Black Coffee. Black Coffee, Yeah, shout the black Coffee. He
- 11:55Speaker 1: taught me that, and I had to store that in
- 11:58Speaker 1: my head, you know. And nineteen eighty four was not
- 12:03Speaker 1: made for mainstream. I mean, listen, I feel like when
- 12:08Speaker 1: I heard it, I was like, this is a this
- 12:11Speaker 1: is like one of those projects. That's like, it's not
- 12:15Speaker 1: like you said, it didn't feel like it was made
- 12:18Speaker 1: for radio. It just felt like, hey, it's a concept echo.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I remember when I was a kid, Prince Paul put
- 12:24Speaker 1: out an album that was it was like a movie
- 12:28Speaker 1: on I think it was called like The Prince of
- 12:30Speaker 1: Thieves or some shit, but it was like fifty songs
- 12:33Speaker 1: and it was like a movie. It was like, Yo,
- 12:35Speaker 1: this is like dope, it's just a creative Like it's
- 12:38Speaker 1: just first of all, your creator first. You're an artist first,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and I think that's true artistry. You're not making it
- 12:43Speaker 1: for you know, the accolades as much as it's like, yo,
- 12:46Speaker 1: why not do a concept album in twenty twenty, because
- 12:48Speaker 1: nobody does that shit no more. Yeah, the idea of
- 12:51Speaker 1: a concept album is like gone away with Spotify and
- 12:53Speaker 1: playlists and all that shit. Yeah, I mean, kids are
- 12:56Speaker 1: making music for playlists and I'm not. And I feel
- 12:58Speaker 1: like I feel like, you know, some of the greatest
- 13:04Speaker 1: people have hit me up after this album. I mean,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you have sting on a song I know. And now
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna lie to you. I'm not the
- 13:14Speaker 1: biggest eighties music guy. Obviously, the Police legendary. Sting legendary.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I mean as a kid, my only Sting memory was
- 13:21Speaker 1: when he came out and performed Missing You with a
- 13:24Speaker 1: Puff Daddy at the VMA's. But like dog, Sting is
- 13:27Speaker 1: one of them guys, He's one of the Jedis. Yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and he feels that way about me. Now, So how
- 13:33Speaker 1: did that relationship feature happen? Because no one's getting sting
- 13:38Speaker 1: on projects. I know. My manager played the song for
- 13:43Speaker 1: his manager, and his manager played my album for him,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and he picked Mama as the biggest song of twenty
- 13:52Speaker 1: twenty and he's like, I would love to be a
- 13:54Speaker 1: part of that. So he wrote his verse, cutit, send
- 13:56Speaker 1: it back to me, and that wrote me, and I
- 14:02Speaker 1: just think like he did his research. You know, he
- 14:04Speaker 1: saw that The New York Times like called me like
- 14:07Speaker 1: the trap Phil Collins, because I do like sing like
- 14:10Speaker 1: Phil Collins kind of sometimes on trap beats. But like
- 14:14Speaker 1: he respected everything my grind. He heard my story and
- 14:19Speaker 1: cut it send it back. I love it. And we
- 14:22Speaker 1: just kept in touch. And I haven't had a chance
- 14:24Speaker 1: to meet him because of COVID, yeah, because he's in London.
- 14:29Speaker 1: But this has been the best response I've ever had
- 14:34Speaker 1: with any song or any music, nothing but blue checks
- 14:38Speaker 1: and my dms of like legendary artists writing me saying
- 14:41Speaker 1: how much they love and appreciate the album and how
- 14:44Speaker 1: much they love my song Lies and they love my
- 14:46Speaker 1: song Mama so much. And you know, Kanye West probably
- 14:50Speaker 1: you know people heard Kanye West loves Don't Kill Me
- 14:53Speaker 1: and Mama and stuff like that, and like from like
- 14:57Speaker 1: people that I've like, similar people. We have mutual friends
- 15:00Speaker 1: and stuff, and like like just like legendary people listen
- 15:04Speaker 1: listening to my project and in writing me, and it
- 15:07Speaker 1: just feels like such a blessing because I released it
- 15:10Speaker 1: for me in case I did die, because twenty twenty
- 15:14Speaker 1: is like killing everyone you never know. So in case
- 15:17Speaker 1: I did leave Earth, I just wanted to put out
- 15:19Speaker 1: a project without someone putting it out for me and
- 15:23Speaker 1: adding a bunch of features. That's fair. Yeah. So you
- 15:29Speaker 1: so you said that you essentially had kind of replaced
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm assuming was it. Did you? Would you consider yourself
- 15:36Speaker 1: someone who had a drug problem? No, No, I had
- 15:41Speaker 1: a mental problem. Okay, I think mentally I'm fucked. I
- 15:47Speaker 1: was fucked. Mentally I wanted to Mentally, I was off
- 15:52Speaker 1: and I was so sad. I was depressed, and I
- 15:57Speaker 1: was kind of I was like a bit soon title
- 16:00Speaker 1: you know how long ago was this twenty thirteen? Okay,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I was just so down. It was just like like
- 16:09Speaker 1: just the thought of it is scary. You know. I
- 16:11Speaker 1: didn't want to leave my room, like no one could
- 16:13Speaker 1: get me out of my bed. Like I was just
- 16:15Speaker 1: so fucked up. I was done. And you know, like
- 16:22Speaker 1: if it wasn't for my mother, I don't think i'd
- 16:23Speaker 1: be here because you know, my mom prays for me
- 16:26Speaker 1: and stuff like that. Like it always sounds a bit stupid,
- 16:29Speaker 1: but like prayers really work. Like you know, people that
- 16:32Speaker 1: are like people that are connected to the universe. It
- 16:35Speaker 1: don't really matter about like what religion you are depends
- 16:38Speaker 1: on like how connected you are to the universe. And
- 16:40Speaker 1: I think my mom's found a way to get like
- 16:42Speaker 1: when her mother died, she found a way to get
- 16:44Speaker 1: connected with the universe to like keep her stable in
- 16:47Speaker 1: like she's tapped in. She's tapped in. Yeah, so she
- 16:49Speaker 1: prays for me and stuff, and I think it works.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And I'm I'm a bit worried because I don't think
- 16:56Speaker 1: I'm going to be as strong when I don't have
- 16:58Speaker 1: my mom by my side in a few years. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: think they were all worried about that when that day comes,
- 17:02Speaker 1: right when we was our parents, like I still got
- 17:04Speaker 1: both of my parents, but like, shit, just the thought of, like,
- 17:08Speaker 1: my grandma just died this year because of COVID. She
- 17:10Speaker 1: was a crazy She was in a nursing home, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: that was one of them ones where it was like, man,
- 17:17Speaker 1: you know, she was like ninety two. So it was like, okay,
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know, kind of prepping myself for a while. But
- 17:24Speaker 1: my parents I can't even imagine not talk about it.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yeah it's crazy, man, Yeah, it's you know what I
- 17:30Speaker 1: always appreciated about you. Yeahsh she was your energy, man,
- 17:34Speaker 1: Like not only like before I met you and interviewed you,
- 17:39Speaker 1: I felt like your energy was very like in everything
- 17:42Speaker 1: you do, whether it's your social media or your music,
- 17:45Speaker 1: it's very prevalent that like your energy is fire. And
- 17:48Speaker 1: I remember when I first met you and we interviewed
- 17:52Speaker 1: you in like twenty seventeen, I think, yeah, I just
- 17:57Speaker 1: remember saying like, man, this dude is like I just
- 18:00Speaker 1: want to see you win, you know what I'm saying,
- 18:02Speaker 1: And you know, it seemed like a really authentic guy.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Now since then I remember that. I think that might
- 18:10Speaker 1: have been when you first first did the rock Nation
- 18:12Speaker 1: situation and you had some some Spotify success. Yeah, shout
- 18:20Speaker 1: out Tuma really helped me. Out. Shout out to Tuma man,
- 18:23Speaker 1: he's at YouTube music now. To him ever since he
- 18:25Speaker 1: left Rap Caviars really not relevant. Yeah, we we had
- 18:29Speaker 1: that rap the Rapcafar conversation off the mic. But yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 1: but I'm curious, like since I first met you to now,
- 18:35Speaker 1: obviously you've had a lot of success commercially, You've been
- 18:40Speaker 1: through different situations. Has has I always noticed like it's
- 18:47Speaker 1: almost hard to get through this industry with a certain
- 18:50Speaker 1: amount of success without it kind of like tainting you
- 18:53Speaker 1: a little bit? Do you did you? Do you feel
- 18:55Speaker 1: like you went through that at all? Or has like,
- 18:57Speaker 1: like has has running through the industry outlet the last
- 19:01Speaker 1: few years like affected you in a negative or positive way?
- 19:04Speaker 1: Because I feel like it definitely can. I mean I
- 19:09Speaker 1: think I think I'm I'm I'm over it. I'm not
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm over I'm over it. I think that's why I
- 19:22Speaker 1: made the nineteen eighty four album because the magic was gone.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I'm it's all a lie, it's all fake, It's not real,
- 19:32Speaker 1: meaning everything everything's not real. Your favorite artist right now,
- 19:37Speaker 1: the biggest pop star in the world, has one hundred
- 19:39Speaker 1: million followers and fake and all the I wish, like
- 19:46Speaker 1: I wish the normal human brain, Like I wish that
- 19:49Speaker 1: normal human being would wake up and just see how
- 19:52Speaker 1: stupid this is. Like the likes are fake, the comments
- 19:56Speaker 1: are fake. Everything's fake. Like everything's fake. So they look
- 20:01Speaker 1: at me and they say things like, damn, Gushi he
- 20:04Speaker 1: only has twenty three million, only he has twenty three
- 20:06Speaker 1: million views on YouTube where he only has two hundred
- 20:09Speaker 1: thousand in the first week. Damn, Like those are real people,
- 20:14Speaker 1: Like those are legit, real people, you understand, Like, you
- 20:18Speaker 1: know these people buying five hundred million streams on Spotify,
- 20:21Speaker 1: Frank Sinatra is not even getting that. After a Joker
- 20:25Speaker 1: movie comes out and the theme song is that song,
- 20:29Speaker 1: usually the songs go up, but those numbers are not
- 20:31Speaker 1: even flying. You understand. What I'm trying to explain to you.
- 20:34Speaker 1: I'm trying to explain to you is like there's a
- 20:36Speaker 1: curtain that can be pulled back with this music shit, man,
- 20:39Speaker 1: And I've started to see it a lot. Man. Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: it's just so bad. I live in a scary time.
- 20:46Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. I live in a scary time.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Movies are not the same, music's not the same. Everything's
- 20:54Speaker 1: so micro waved. The kids are brainwashed. They have enough.
- 20:58Speaker 1: They don't know they like things because cool to like it. Such.
- 21:03Speaker 1: It's such a terrible time for music, movies, and everything,
- 21:07Speaker 1: and probably the most judgmental time too. We've ever been
- 21:10Speaker 1: like yeah, like you can't even make a mistake anymore. No,
- 21:13Speaker 1: you get canceled. You know. It's like they want like
- 21:15Speaker 1: like people are just waiting for you to fucking see
- 21:18Speaker 1: something they don't. I'm kind of waiting for me to
- 21:21Speaker 1: get canceled because just to get it over with, just
- 21:23Speaker 1: to get it over with, you know what I'm saying.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's like having COVID, you know, know that's some real ship, bro,
- 21:28Speaker 1: Like just get it out the way, because you know what,
- 21:31Speaker 1: like you and I are, like we grew up. Like
- 21:35Speaker 1: I'll be listening to some old eminem shit sometimes and
- 21:37Speaker 1: I'm like, fuck man, how is it? Like how are
- 21:41Speaker 1: they not picketing in front of his house in Detroit
- 21:43Speaker 1: right now? That's what I'm saying. I don't want to
- 21:45Speaker 1: bring that up. I don't want to bring that up
- 21:47Speaker 1: because I just but it's it's fucking crazy. It is crazy.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I'm not going to bring that up because I don't
- 21:51Speaker 1: want to give any of these trusting ideas, you know
- 21:54Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, I don't want to bring that
- 21:56Speaker 1: up because, like, honestly, Marshall mather Zone p changed my life.
- 22:00Speaker 1: He has a whole entire song about murdering his mother,
- 22:05Speaker 1: bro murdering his girlfriend Kim is one of my favorite
- 22:09Speaker 1: and raping his mom for the record, yeah, kim Is.
- 22:15Speaker 1: You know when he kills he murders his girlfriend and
- 22:17Speaker 1: on the album, it's one of the most insane things
- 22:20Speaker 1: I've ever heard of in my life. And I wish
- 22:22Speaker 1: I had I wish I had a video. That's one
- 22:24Speaker 1: thing that I wish, like, this should be a video
- 22:28Speaker 1: on that song. Yes, they never did a video for that.
- 22:30Speaker 1: I wish they did. It would have been so amazing.
- 22:32Speaker 1: We just got the album cover that had her in
- 22:34Speaker 1: the trunk. Yeah, and that was on the sado Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:38Speaker 1: The second one was him and sitting down. But yeah, man,
- 22:43Speaker 1: you get canceled. I don't give a fuck about anything
- 22:47Speaker 1: going on right now. I don't give a fuck about
- 22:50Speaker 1: who your favorite rapper is. I don't care, like none
- 22:52Speaker 1: of this stuff matters to me anymore. I think it's
- 22:57Speaker 1: irrelevant where I'm at. I'm really in nineteen eighty four
- 23:00Speaker 1: right now. When I made this project, I kind of
- 23:02Speaker 1: wanted to be in that era. I wanted to try
- 23:04Speaker 1: time travel to nineteen eighty four, and I'm stuck there,
- 23:09Speaker 1: and I enjoy it here. I enjoy it where I am.
- 23:11Speaker 1: You know, I bought a house from my mom and dad.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I bought a house for me that I don't live in.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I still live in my old apartment. People still wait
- 23:21Speaker 1: for me in my old apartment, ask for pictures. I
- 23:23Speaker 1: take a picture, and I walk to the store, come
- 23:25Speaker 1: back like as if nothing is happening. I drive my
- 23:29Speaker 1: cars and I don't want to change anything in my life.
- 23:33Speaker 1: The music comes out, I don't. I don't want a
- 23:37Speaker 1: house full of my friends doing drugs, doing tiktoks. I
- 23:41Speaker 1: was about to say, that's just the Hollywood gauntlet right now. Yeah,
- 23:45Speaker 1: fucking house full of a bunch of TikTokers on coke.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, it's literally the fucking holy shit. Yeah, and
- 23:53Speaker 1: that's not me, you know what I'm saying. That's not
- 23:54Speaker 1: just random aspiring artists moving to LA and then buckering
- 23:58Speaker 1: down in a room, Yeah, with eleven other guys who
- 24:01Speaker 1: have fu Yeah, it's like it's like the worst, Like
- 24:05Speaker 1: I'm not that's that's it's so crazy. You say that
- 24:08Speaker 1: because people who don't, who aren't in first of all,
- 24:10Speaker 1: who don't live here, and who aren't in our industry,
- 24:13Speaker 1: that is literally so much of what's going on in
- 24:17Speaker 1: LA right now. Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, good for them,
- 24:21Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like I'm not mad at them,
- 24:22Speaker 1: but it's just not my world. They don't give a
- 24:24Speaker 1: fuck like I rather just be home watching movies like
- 24:27Speaker 1: you know what I mean, Like when was the last
- 24:29Speaker 1: time you saw a movie like Belly? When you're never
- 24:31Speaker 1: gonna see it again, You're not, You're just not you
- 24:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Now they're redoing Fresh Prince of
- 24:36Speaker 1: Bella Are. They're gonna ruin it. They ruined Lion King,
- 24:38Speaker 1: they ruined Full House, They're gonna ruin everything. Everything that
- 24:42Speaker 1: we've ever loved. We live long enough to see it
- 24:44Speaker 1: get ruined. Every single artist that we've ever loved. We
- 24:47Speaker 1: live long enough to watch them go on Instagram and
- 24:49Speaker 1: completely throw everything down the drain. It's such bullshit. I
- 24:52Speaker 1: just want to get popping. I want to delete everything
- 24:54Speaker 1: and go away, like I'm not where I want to
- 24:57Speaker 1: be at because I still want to release the music
- 24:59Speaker 1: and I need so media for my label so I
- 25:01Speaker 1: could do it. But the best part is when I'm
- 25:03Speaker 1: completely done, and I'm officially done, just release the music
- 25:07Speaker 1: and get the fuck out the way and go hide.
- 25:10Speaker 1: That's all I want to do, you know what I mean.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And I'm not angry. I'm not unhappy. I'm so fucking happy.
- 25:16Speaker 1: I have a dog and ship. I feed my nephews,
- 25:18Speaker 1: I feed. I have a Golden Doodle and he's the
- 25:21Speaker 1: fucking man. He's like I have better conversations with him
- 25:23Speaker 1: than I do humans. And yeah, I have a pump. Well,
- 25:26Speaker 1: my wife has a Pomeranian. It's by default my Pomeranian,
- 25:29Speaker 1: and I named him after the Big Lebowski. Okay, his
- 25:32Speaker 1: name's Jeffrey Lebowski. Sick sick. My dog's pressed. Then I
- 25:36Speaker 1: named them after Blank check Fire Blank Jack Jack. Yeah. Yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I love that ship Yoga. I missed it. I just
- 25:46Speaker 1: missed those not like early nineties kids movies like a
- 25:49Speaker 1: Little Giants and Ship, like why don't they make some
- 25:52Speaker 1: ship like that, And they don't. They don't. They don't
- 25:55Speaker 1: like so ice boxes and ship, you know, but like
- 25:57Speaker 1: they don't. They just don't. They don't. They're not creative,
- 25:59Speaker 1: and that it goes back to what I'm trying to
- 26:01Speaker 1: explain to you. Nineteen eighty four, it's about a kid
- 26:04Speaker 1: who goes to his friend Danny's house and Danny's showing
- 26:07Speaker 1: him his new crib, and it goes to I found
- 26:09Speaker 1: this time machine. I don't know if it works. But
- 26:10Speaker 1: the guy that they say died, I don't think he died.
- 26:12Speaker 1: I think I know where he went, puts me in
- 26:15Speaker 1: the time machine, sends me to nineteen eighty four, and
- 26:17Speaker 1: then the album starts, and like, when did you feel
- 26:20Speaker 1: like that last time? You felt like that was probably
- 26:21Speaker 1: Universal studios, Like You've never felt that way, you know
- 26:24Speaker 1: what I'm saying. So it's a nice mental vacation for
- 26:29Speaker 1: people to jump into during these times exactly they play
- 26:32Speaker 1: and just zone to get the fuck out, get in
- 26:34Speaker 1: your car and feel like you're at a time said
- 26:35Speaker 1: something earlier about people buying Spotify streams, Yeah, I know
- 26:39Speaker 1: that that. How much of a thing is that? It's
- 26:44Speaker 1: like ninety five percent of people that are like popping
- 26:49Speaker 1: are buying Spotify streams, and then they get their music
- 26:53Speaker 1: to be playlisted, and these motherfuckers would get like one
- 26:57Speaker 1: hundred to two hundred million plays a month, And you're like,
- 27:01Speaker 1: how the fuck are they doing that? Like why aren't
- 27:04Speaker 1: their bigger songs from like three years ago fast as this?
- 27:08Speaker 1: The song is not even that good. It's like they're
- 27:11Speaker 1: trying to make it look like they're getting bigger and better,
- 27:13Speaker 1: but it's really backwards. Well that's what I wanted to
- 27:15Speaker 1: ask you, because you as an artist, you've been on
- 27:18Speaker 1: both sides of it, right, because like Tuma, like really
- 27:21Speaker 1: a lot of your early singles, you know, twenty sixteen,
- 27:24Speaker 1: twenty seventeen, like benefited a lot from real Like like
- 27:30Speaker 1: I said, when Rap Caviar was really like changing careers. Yes, yes,
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know he took a chance on you because at
- 27:38Speaker 1: the time you weren't that wasn't popping. And now that
- 27:41Speaker 1: doesn't happen if you're not popping, or you don't have
- 27:44Speaker 1: some sort of social like you're not making it on
- 27:46Speaker 1: Rap Caviar. But I'm curious, like, what would you say
- 27:50Speaker 1: to like an artist who like because it almost Unfortunately, Now,
- 27:55Speaker 1: if you're going to get signed, I don't even know
- 27:58Speaker 1: if you should get signed. But if you're gonna get
- 28:00Speaker 1: major label, you got to do most of the work
- 28:03Speaker 1: before they they come into the picture. I mean right
- 28:07Speaker 1: like it's like they want you to make sure that
- 28:09Speaker 1: you got all this, this, this, this and this going before. Honestly,
- 28:11Speaker 1: I love my RCAA label. I love them as humans.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I love Peter Edge. I love them so much. I
- 28:20Speaker 1: really do. Truly. I could look at that man's eyes
- 28:23Speaker 1: and know that he believes in me. It's not bullshit.
- 28:25Speaker 1: You know. I love Mark Pitts. I love everyone at
- 28:29Speaker 1: the RCA building because I know they believe in me.
- 28:32Speaker 1: You understand it's not bullshit. But you know a lot
- 28:36Speaker 1: of people don't have that. I mean, I'm shooting. I'm
- 28:40Speaker 1: shooting videos for a lot of money. You know. They
- 28:42Speaker 1: give me money, they send me money. It's how I
- 28:44Speaker 1: need money. RCAA takes care of me, so not a
- 28:48Speaker 1: lot of artists do that. They sign and then they
- 28:50Speaker 1: have to do it themselves. So you just basically signed
- 28:53Speaker 1: to watch to have somebody watch you pop off so
- 28:55Speaker 1: they could take your money. It's the most backwards thing
- 28:57Speaker 1: I've ever seen that what I was trying to get to. Yeah. Yeah,
- 28:59Speaker 1: So it really depends on your situation, you know. You
- 29:05Speaker 1: know my situation is different. It took me ten years
- 29:08Speaker 1: to be where I'm at, seven years to get my
- 29:12Speaker 1: deal hopped on a plane, it turned up at a
- 29:16Speaker 1: studio at office. No one plays their own music for
- 29:20Speaker 1: people like you, by the way, thank you man. I mean,
- 29:23Speaker 1: I love my music. There's an art to that though,
- 29:26Speaker 1: Like yo, no matter like, when you play your shit,
- 29:30Speaker 1: you're getting everybody on your level, bro, because you'd be
- 29:32Speaker 1: fucking It's that energy I would about earlier. I just love.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I love. Everyone should be as confident and into their
- 29:39Speaker 1: own shit as you honestly though, if you're not, you know,
- 29:42Speaker 1: I look at my You have kids, so you should
- 29:45Speaker 1: know what it's like. Like, you know, I look at
- 29:47Speaker 1: my music as like my child, you know, like like
- 29:50Speaker 1: when I show it off, I'm proud of it. Yeah,
- 29:53Speaker 1: and you don't show your child unless you're not proud
- 29:56Speaker 1: of your child. But like you don't show your child
- 29:58Speaker 1: and be like, yeah, this is my child, that's throw
- 30:00Speaker 1: them out the window, you know what I mean, Like, Nah,
- 30:03Speaker 1: this is my child, and I'm gonna rep for for
- 30:05Speaker 1: my child, and I'm gonna dance with my child and
- 30:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna show you why my child is important. So
- 30:12Speaker 1: that's I mean, no, that's I think that's the attitude
- 30:14Speaker 1: most people should have. So with this project being like
- 30:20Speaker 1: a passion project, I know you, I know you're working
- 30:23Speaker 1: a lot, like how much? And I'm assuming you didn't
- 30:26Speaker 1: plan on putting this project out at the beginning of
- 30:29Speaker 1: this pandemic or was this always kind of in the
- 30:30Speaker 1: cards for you? Like, I mean, I don't know. I
- 30:32Speaker 1: wanted to put it out, but I didn't think the
- 30:34Speaker 1: pandemic thing was going to happen. I wanted to put
- 30:36Speaker 1: it out, like was this the plan to be your
- 30:39Speaker 1: next album or or or or was there other music? No,
- 30:42Speaker 1: there's another album. Okay, so there's That's what I was
- 30:44Speaker 1: gonna ask, are there's another album that you know? RCA
- 30:49Speaker 1: didn't fund the nineteen eighty four album. I funded it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: RCA didn't. RCA didn't give me the push, almost like
- 31:04Speaker 1: they treated it like it was like a mixtape or something.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, like rc I still love our something.
- 31:09Speaker 1: If something pops off on this, we'll get yeah, which
- 31:11Speaker 1: is clearly your passion project. Then let's see what it does.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And r c A they believe in me. And one
- 31:18Speaker 1: thing that RCA does, which is great, which labels don't do,
- 31:21Speaker 1: is they allow artists to beat themselves and do what
- 31:23Speaker 1: the one, what the fuck they want to do, you know.
- 31:25Speaker 1: And RCA allowed me to do what I wanted with
- 31:29Speaker 1: this album, and I didn't get the big label push
- 31:35Speaker 1: on nineteen eighty four. It's more like my Ship, but
- 31:40Speaker 1: surprisingly I put it out and it's killing. It's killing,
- 31:44Speaker 1: and it's like the people losing their minds. Man, people,
- 31:50Speaker 1: you feel like it's a cleansing of of of everyone's
- 31:54Speaker 1: palette sonically. I'm thinking about that off the camera, just
- 31:58Speaker 1: like with with what's going on in the world. Clubs
- 32:02Speaker 1: aren't going on. Yeah, there's like people are looking for
- 32:07Speaker 1: like music to sit with exactly, Like, dude, Like, if
- 32:10Speaker 1: I were to die, this Ship would be like my
- 32:14Speaker 1: big one, you understand, Like if I'm gone, like in
- 32:18Speaker 1: no exaggeration, if something happens to me, this album is
- 32:21Speaker 1: going to be legendary, classic, timeless, iconic, you know what
- 32:26Speaker 1: I'm saying. And if you're not, if you don't feel
- 32:28Speaker 1: like that about your project, you shouldn't put it out
- 32:31Speaker 1: that's fair. And this is not me bragging about me.
- 32:34Speaker 1: This is me to having This is me with Rolling
- 32:36Speaker 1: Stone magazine interviews Forbes doing some of the greatest, biggest
- 32:42Speaker 1: interviews with some of the most relevant interviewers of all
- 32:45Speaker 1: time to have have interviewed icons telling me this is
- 32:49Speaker 1: an iconic album. So it's the way I feel about it.
- 32:54Speaker 1: It's through the people telling me, not me telling myself.
- 32:57Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I can't toot my own horn.
- 32:59Speaker 1: That only could get me as far as getting me somewhere.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But when the people that have the right credentials tell you, yo,
- 33:05Speaker 1: this is this is an incredible project, then it kind
- 33:09Speaker 1: of makes you. You know, this is Okay. I was
- 33:12Speaker 1: saying Stairs album, which is my first one, is my
- 33:15Speaker 1: late registration okay, college dropout. I was gonna say, that's
- 33:19Speaker 1: Kanye's second album, but okay, no, but no, because I
- 33:21Speaker 1: have four play Okay, yeah, yeah, true, true, true. So
- 33:24Speaker 1: that's you had a lot of singles. That's yeah, that's
- 33:26Speaker 1: my college dropout. Four play and my late registration stares
- 33:31Speaker 1: and let's just skip a few Kanye albums and Goshi
- 33:36Speaker 1: is my graduation. This is your at awaits, this is
- 33:39Speaker 1: my ways changing changing music, to change music exactly. This
- 33:44Speaker 1: is my this is, I would say it Awaits and
- 33:47Speaker 1: Yeas This are two like albums Kanye put out that
- 33:50Speaker 1: just sonically changed, like the direction of like hip hop
- 33:54Speaker 1: or music. Yeah, My My My Darks was fancy as well. Yeah,
- 33:58Speaker 1: of course, of course, I just mean in terms of
- 33:59Speaker 1: like like sound sound. Yes, yes, you know what I mean.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I agree, I agree. And my next one, my next
- 34:07Speaker 1: album is going to be my My My My My
- 34:11Speaker 1: Dark tis to fancy Mine my version Fire, and then
- 34:15Speaker 1: after that is going to be my Ysis and then
- 34:21Speaker 1: you don't know where I'm going to go with it,
- 34:22Speaker 1: But I just the thing is, the key is to
- 34:24Speaker 1: never make the same song twice, never make the same
- 34:29Speaker 1: sounding album. I always wanted to make my Ship sound
- 34:33Speaker 1: like I want to make when I'm in the World
- 34:36Speaker 1: in the theme I'm in the theme my next project.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I wanted to feel like nineties dance music, you know,
- 34:42Speaker 1: like I wanted to feel like a gay club, like
- 34:45Speaker 1: that's how I want my music to feel like. I
- 34:47Speaker 1: wanted to feel like shout out to all my gay
- 34:49Speaker 1: fans too, like they shout out, you know, shout out
- 34:52Speaker 1: to all my gay fans. Like like they have some
- 34:54Speaker 1: of the most incredible taste ever ever and they put
- 34:57Speaker 1: me on all the time, like listen to this, listen
- 34:59Speaker 1: to that, and I kind of like, like I appreciate
- 35:04Speaker 1: how like how much love I get, not from everyone,
- 35:07Speaker 1: but so sonically you want to go and like I'm
- 35:10Speaker 1: just when I think of like what you just said,
- 35:12Speaker 1: I don't know why Knight at the Roxbury just popped
- 35:14Speaker 1: in my cand Yeah yeah, yeah, that's that's true. Now
- 35:18Speaker 1: that's Roxbury, like those kind of vibes. Yeah, like you
- 35:21Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, like like a bro, like, that's
- 35:25Speaker 1: that's the fucking that's the fucking pool, the uh the
- 35:30Speaker 1: Will Ferrell or what's the other guy's name, the tiny
- 35:33Speaker 1: guy something can I don't know he's locked up? Oh
- 35:37Speaker 1: is he? I think? So? Yeah yeah that'd because but man,
- 35:41Speaker 1: like bro, like we're not here forever. Man, you know,
- 35:46Speaker 1: like do what you love? Bro. Like people, I swear,
- 35:51Speaker 1: if you see how fast people move on after somebody
- 35:54Speaker 1: dies in twenty twenty, you think twice before thinking about
- 35:56Speaker 1: what someone else is gonna say about you. That's fair man.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Another thing I think that's important for people who don't
- 36:03Speaker 1: necessarily uh have the that aren't aware of your come up,
- 36:09Speaker 1: Like we spoke about this a few years ago, but
- 36:12Speaker 1: I think it's like just really inspiring. How your music
- 36:17Speaker 1: career kind of almost stopped right you were you had
- 36:22Speaker 1: a scholarship to play football. Yeah, play football as a scholarship.
- 36:25Speaker 1: I dropped out, and then I was going to register
- 36:29Speaker 1: for school again, and then Peter Roseberg played my song
- 36:32Speaker 1: on a radio really striving, real nice talk. I pulled over,
- 36:36Speaker 1: told my mom not going back to school, kept going.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Got my deal, I got shelved. I had to find
- 36:41Speaker 1: a way added my deal. I got my deal. My
- 36:43Speaker 1: documentary was your original deal with Jason flam Lava Records.
- 36:48Speaker 1: If you want, there's a documentary out right now that
- 36:50Speaker 1: just put it out. It's called Now you Know check
- 36:52Speaker 1: it out. It's a documentary I put together. And now
- 36:55Speaker 1: Netflix has called and they're interested of doing the whole movie.
- 36:57Speaker 1: So that'd be crazy. Yeah, So you don't know, I
- 37:01Speaker 1: might go into the movie business. You don't. That's my dream,
- 37:04Speaker 1: like doing movies and stuff like that. I mean, shit,
- 37:06Speaker 1: I feel like shit, now's the time, bro. Yeah. You
- 37:10Speaker 1: I've also heard you allude to being around before you
- 37:14Speaker 1: were Gashy. Obviously, you're always gashy but before you were
- 37:18Speaker 1: known as gashy on on a big lit level, being
- 37:22Speaker 1: around a lot of the biggest artists in the world,
- 37:26Speaker 1: but before they were the biggest artists in the world. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 1: always and maybe either a giving them some sauce, helping
- 37:33Speaker 1: them on records. Yeah, and always I've always have. So
- 37:38Speaker 1: you've like, like, did you, like, was there ever a
- 37:41Speaker 1: point in time where you were just writing for people
- 37:43Speaker 1: or you were Yeah, I mean I was writing for people.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I was. I was. Let's just say, because I don't
- 37:51Speaker 1: like saying too much good, especially about my past, I
- 37:53Speaker 1: feel like I I feel like I feel like, if
- 37:57Speaker 1: you're watching this interview, I want you to completely kill me,
- 38:02Speaker 1: or kill the person that you knew of you of me,
- 38:07Speaker 1: kill them completely because that old me is like officially expired.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I'm officially somewhere else. But like, but like I like,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I wrote I wrote music for people, Yes, I did.
- 38:23Speaker 1: I I've helped. I've helped so many people out and
- 38:27Speaker 1: I've seen them become millionaires, blow up and forget me.
- 38:32Speaker 1: And I've seen it so many times that I feel
- 38:35Speaker 1: I feel nothing towards it. And when they see me,
- 38:38Speaker 1: they can't look at me in my eyes. They look
- 38:39Speaker 1: down so damn. I mean, it is what it is.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I mean, it's not I feel bad for them. I
- 38:45Speaker 1: don't feel bad for myself anymore. I feel bad for
- 38:48Speaker 1: them because they've completely lost themselves. I feel bad for them,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you know, they've completely killed themselves. You know what I'm saying.
- 38:57Speaker 1: And I'm you're you're, You're still you. I'm still me.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And I could look into a mirror and know that
- 39:02Speaker 1: that's me. I don't have to put on an act
- 39:04Speaker 1: that I'm not worried. I could sleep at night without
- 39:07Speaker 1: taking no drugs. I'm fine, Like you know what I'm saying.
- 39:09Speaker 1: So I feel bad for them, you know, And I'm
- 39:14Speaker 1: sure every time I see them, they they they wish
- 39:18Speaker 1: that it never happened. That's fair. I mean you also
- 39:22Speaker 1: too have like I feel like, you know, there's very
- 39:26Speaker 1: few in the in the music industry. There's a lot
- 39:31Speaker 1: of acquaintances, right, There's a lot of people that we
- 39:33Speaker 1: come in contact with. They're like, yeah, I'm cool with them, like,
- 39:36Speaker 1: you know, yeah, let's get up, let's work never happens,
- 39:39Speaker 1: let's do lunch. Right, But there's like very few friends
- 39:43Speaker 1: like and I feel like DJ Snake is one of
- 39:46Speaker 1: those guys for you. Yes, my brother man, and I
- 39:50Speaker 1: know you guys creatively have had a sick history. Yeah,
- 39:54Speaker 1: he's my guy. He's my guy, Snake, Snake's my guy. Man.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Who else on that like? Who else is on that list?
- 40:02Speaker 1: For you? The reason why people don't understand the reason
- 40:04Speaker 1: why I'm so close with Snake has nothing to do
- 40:06Speaker 1: with just the music. I think I had to warrant
- 40:09Speaker 1: for my rest and I had gotten into trouble in
- 40:11Speaker 1: New York, and I don't want to get too deep
- 40:15Speaker 1: into it because you know, thankfully the case got dropped
- 40:19Speaker 1: and I don't want to bring you back up. It
- 40:21Speaker 1: was a nightmare. And yeah, I handled my business, you know,
- 40:25Speaker 1: as a as a brother, you know, I handled my business.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Someone attacked my sister and I handled my business and
- 40:34Speaker 1: do what you're supposed to do exactly. And I think
- 40:38Speaker 1: I handled my business and took it a little too far,
- 40:41Speaker 1: so I had to escape the country and go to Iceland.
- 40:46Speaker 1: So what year was this? This was two thousand and fifteen. Shit, Yeah,
- 40:54Speaker 1: So I basically handled my business and I needed to
- 40:57Speaker 1: bail money and DJ Snake put the money up. When
- 41:00Speaker 1: all my friends then and pick up the phone and
- 41:01Speaker 1: want to give me money. So I'm loyal to that
- 41:04Speaker 1: man even if he pulls some weird shit, I'm still
- 41:07Speaker 1: loyal to him based on what he did. He held
- 41:09Speaker 1: you down. Yeah, he helped me down at that point
- 41:11Speaker 1: where I needed him. So you know, that man could
- 41:14Speaker 1: that man could shoot me, and I still want to
- 41:16Speaker 1: be mad at him. So so I mean there's very
- 41:20Speaker 1: very rare friendships that have man. Yeah, Iceland, what I mean,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I feel like Iceland is a country that is not icy.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Oh it is called what what was it like? Like
- 41:34Speaker 1: like because you're you're you, I feel like you originally
- 41:37Speaker 1: like a lot of your core fan base was overseas.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Still right, He's just a huge following overseas. Like nineteen
- 41:43Speaker 1: eighty four had just changed everything. Nineteen eighty four had
- 41:47Speaker 1: just changed everything. Now I'm having fans in America. Well
- 41:51Speaker 1: you have fans in America, of course, but like it's
- 41:53Speaker 1: getting what you're saying, it's getting to that point where
- 41:56Speaker 1: it's like I can't go to Starbucks. Yeah that's in
- 42:00Speaker 1: America anymore. So it's like it's becoming where it's like
- 42:04Speaker 1: becoming super successful on both areas, which is weird because
- 42:08Speaker 1: I loved feeling like a celebrity in Europe and then
- 42:10Speaker 1: coming back. It's just trying to be able to just relax,
- 42:13Speaker 1: turn it off, you know, snake. I love Chris Brown.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Chris Brown is Chris Brown to me, is the most
- 42:23Speaker 1: talented super artists. We all right, check this out. A
- 42:29Speaker 1: lot of people are gonna not understand what everything you're
- 42:31Speaker 1: about to say. I think I say all the time
- 42:33Speaker 1: about him. Go ahead, Okay, so people gonna get upset,
- 42:37Speaker 1: but suck, suck my dick. I don't care. The thing
- 42:40Speaker 1: is we judge the man based on his past of
- 42:43Speaker 1: what he's done, and fuck you, like, okay, we all
- 42:45Speaker 1: make mistakes, right, I don't think as a human being.
- 42:53Speaker 1: See like, we have legends like the Beatles and stuff
- 42:57Speaker 1: like that. You know, we have Michael Jackson, we have
- 42:59Speaker 1: the We have legendary artists, and I love that we
- 43:02Speaker 1: do have that on Earth. It's amazing. But nobody can
- 43:08Speaker 1: last with Chris Brown and on the dance floor or
- 43:12Speaker 1: keep up with him musically, or Chris Brown will dunk
- 43:19Speaker 1: on your favorite artists and put his balls on their
- 43:22Speaker 1: fucking head. Chris Brown will outdance them. Chris Brown will
- 43:25Speaker 1: out sing them. Chris Brown will outdo them anyway. Chris
- 43:27Speaker 1: Brown will fuck your favorite artist bitch in front of them,
- 43:30Speaker 1: and they won't do nothing to Chris Brown is one
- 43:33Speaker 1: of the greatest fucking things that's ever happened in history
- 43:36Speaker 1: of the world on Earth. This man, I've seen Chris
- 43:39Speaker 1: Brown flow in the air, like float in the air.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I'm being serious. I've seen Chris Brown float in the
- 43:47Speaker 1: fucking air with Timberland's on in a bubble jacket, stay
- 43:50Speaker 1: in the air for six seconds. I've seen Chris Brown
- 43:54Speaker 1: do things that a human is not supposed to be doing.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Chris Brown is the most talented person. He's an alien
- 44:00Speaker 1: and something's crazy, the fact that he's just too good
- 44:06Speaker 1: for Earth and just give him his flowers. Now he's
- 44:09Speaker 1: made mistakes, Move the fuck on, you know what I mean,
- 44:12Speaker 1: Move the fuck on, Like he's made mistakes and we
- 44:14Speaker 1: get it, but like stop judging him off of that,
- 44:16Speaker 1: Like let's talk about what he's bro so many hits,
- 44:22Speaker 1: so much shit that this man does is so special
- 44:25Speaker 1: and I apologize for getting crazy, but like, dude, like
- 44:29Speaker 1: he is so talented and it's like people try to
- 44:33Speaker 1: downplay it as if it's not there. It's like, yo, bro,
- 44:35Speaker 1: the sky is fucking blue and you can tell me
- 44:37Speaker 1: it's any color you want, but but it's blue. But
- 44:39Speaker 1: it's fucking blue. You know what I'm saying. You got
- 44:42Speaker 1: all these fucking you know, the industry is full of
- 44:44Speaker 1: shit shine, and that's that industry equals shit shine. What's
- 44:49Speaker 1: shit shine? It's all these artists are shit and they
- 44:51Speaker 1: shine it and they make you believe it's good. Chris
- 44:54Speaker 1: Brown is not shit shine. Chris Brown is what happens
- 44:57Speaker 1: when you give money to an actual talent artist. I
- 45:01Speaker 1: always say this about Chris Brown. He's probably the most
- 45:05Speaker 1: talented human being that has ever that we've ever seen, because,
- 45:10Speaker 1: like you said, not only is he the best dancer,
- 45:13Speaker 1: he could he could paint a mural on the side
- 45:16Speaker 1: of his house. Bro. You know what I'm saying, Like
- 45:19Speaker 1: his the level of artistry and talent, Like you could
- 45:22Speaker 1: say whatever you want about him, but talent wise, there's
- 45:28Speaker 1: nobody we've ever seen that's on his level. No, And
- 45:31Speaker 1: so I've been seeing like, and no disrespect to Drake
- 45:33Speaker 1: because Drake is obviously a Jedi, but like I've been
- 45:35Speaker 1: seeing like a tweet going around that a think fat
- 45:37Speaker 1: joke called Drake like r Michael Jackson. I'm like, no,
- 45:39Speaker 1: it's Chris Brown. Like Chris Brown. And unfortunately, like you said,
- 45:44Speaker 1: there's like a tainted or a still around Chris Brown
- 45:47Speaker 1: when those conversations happen. But it's crazy when he is
- 45:51Speaker 1: literally the most talented human being that's probably ever made music.
- 45:56Speaker 1: He can do everything better than everybody. Everybody and he
- 46:00Speaker 1: can paint, he could play basketball. I've seen that. So
- 46:06Speaker 1: I've been working with Chris Brown on this Breezy album
- 46:09Speaker 1: coming out, and he's incredible. And I've never seen an
- 46:12Speaker 1: artist go in the booth without writing anything. I thought
- 46:18Speaker 1: I was the only one who did that. And the
- 46:19Speaker 1: only reason why I started doing that was because I
- 46:21Speaker 1: used to work with Nipsey and he taught me that.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I had a session with Nipsey and I saw he
- 46:25Speaker 1: didn't write, and then I started doing that way I
- 46:27Speaker 1: would say something cut and then punch in, and the
- 46:31Speaker 1: way Chris Brown records, like you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 46:35Speaker 1: I'm not gonna get too deep into topic, but he's
- 46:37Speaker 1: just so talented that it's a shame the world. It's
- 46:42Speaker 1: a shame how the world tries to like downplay it
- 46:45Speaker 1: as if like right like after this interview, there's gonna
- 46:49Speaker 1: be people on the comments or people gonna be in
- 46:51Speaker 1: my tweets on my Instagram bitching goat me, and it's
- 46:54Speaker 1: just gonna be full of fucking people that are like
- 46:57Speaker 1: got nothing going on in their life and they're coming
- 46:59Speaker 1: at me because of what I said. You know what
- 47:00Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's much of those idiots. But like, like
- 47:04Speaker 1: I just I just want I want to give Chris
- 47:07Speaker 1: Brown as flowers well he can still smell them, and
- 47:11Speaker 1: I just want to continue to do that. And I
- 47:13Speaker 1: want to also say, like, as somebody, I've been critical
- 47:16Speaker 1: of Chris Brown's personal decisions throughout the years, and I'm
- 47:18Speaker 1: not even necessarily like like I'm a grown ass man,
- 47:22Speaker 1: so I'm not like riding around bumping Chris Brown a
- 47:24Speaker 1: lot of times. Like I'm not like the biggest fan
- 47:26Speaker 1: of like Chris Brown, but you got to acknowledge he
- 47:29Speaker 1: is an alien, bro, Yeah, exactly, Like exactly can you
- 47:33Speaker 1: not watch this and you know there was this versus
- 47:36Speaker 1: battleship and I'm like, at you know, I was thinking,
- 47:40Speaker 1: like Chris Brown versus Usher, but like Breezy has a
- 47:44Speaker 1: bag that like he could get into that, like he
- 47:47Speaker 1: can do sixty records like yo, man, what I'm saying,
- 47:51Speaker 1: yeah he could, like yo, the features, the like just
- 47:56Speaker 1: the rapping shit, like the versus thing, right, you're talking
- 47:58Speaker 1: about that? Yeah, Like I don't think anybody could beat
- 48:02Speaker 1: Chris Brown. In the verses. It goes back to what
- 48:05Speaker 1: I was saying, maybe Drake, but I know, no, no,
- 48:09Speaker 1: but I'm saying that like that might be the the
- 48:12Speaker 1: only like no way, but I think I'm glad that
- 48:15Speaker 1: he turned that ship down. I'm telling you there's no way,
- 48:19Speaker 1: There's no way, No Drake, no nothing, nobody, nobody could
- 48:23Speaker 1: out beat Chris Brown. Nobody from Deuces to No No No.
- 48:31Speaker 1: But I'm just telling you he's incredible. He just floated
- 48:33Speaker 1: out a Young Thug collab album song with no rollout
- 48:37Speaker 1: and Go Crazy. You know, just in number one on rates,
- 48:39Speaker 1: Say You Love Me is one of the most incredible
- 48:41Speaker 1: songs on that project. Go Crazy is incredible. He continues
- 48:45Speaker 1: to make hits, He continuous effortlessly, is so light work
- 48:48Speaker 1: for him. I just I just you know, we're gonna
- 48:51Speaker 1: move on. But Chris. I love Chris and I think
- 48:54Speaker 1: I think he's incredible and he's one of my friends
- 48:57Speaker 1: and and I'm so thankful to say he's called me.
- 49:00Speaker 1: He checked up on me during the pandemic, make sure
- 49:01Speaker 1: my family's good. Always checks up on me, like such
- 49:05Speaker 1: a such a big hearted person, you understand. And he's incredible.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Another person that's really dope is Squirlex, nice guy. Sonny's
- 49:14Speaker 1: a sweetheart man. But you know Adele, Adele is incredible, incredible,
- 49:19Speaker 1: big heart, big hearted person. How crazy is it that
- 49:23Speaker 1: like Adele, who's again one of those people who might
- 49:27Speaker 1: have like maybe the best voice we've ever heard, like
- 49:29Speaker 1: maybe like top five. Yeah, it's like like the last icon,
- 49:33Speaker 1: like Jesus Christ, Like you know, that's like another one
- 49:36Speaker 1: we were talking about, like when someone so talented, like
- 49:38Speaker 1: that's the right person who got the deal and got
- 49:40Speaker 1: the money, Like holy shit, Yeah, she's one of the
- 49:42Speaker 1: greatest singers of all time. Yeah, but these are these
- 49:44Speaker 1: are the people that are like incredible, incredible, incredible people, incredible.
- 49:51Speaker 1: You and Adele have a solid relationship. She's she's she's
- 49:55Speaker 1: the person that I met them friends with. She's awesome.
- 50:00Speaker 1: I like Sam Smith. Sam Smith is cool. Well, so
- 50:06Speaker 1: I'm friends with I'm friends with I know, I know
- 50:12Speaker 1: French always you know Fresh Montana French. What about the
- 50:16Speaker 1: other big Albanian in music? You and Action got any
- 50:19Speaker 1: sort of So me and Action Bronson made a song together.
- 50:22Speaker 1: He's supposed to be on the Gashy album. He's supposed
- 50:25Speaker 1: to be on My Interlude mm hmm, and yeah, I
- 50:32Speaker 1: I never put it on the album. And you guys
- 50:34Speaker 1: are both like such great dudes. I love him. He's incredible.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Shout out to him. He's losing weight, getting his health
- 50:41Speaker 1: together and he's so he's a special soul man. I
- 50:45Speaker 1: so he was supposed to be on the album. Yeah.
- 50:46Speaker 1: I got together with Action Bronson as as as Loft
- 50:51Speaker 1: and in Queens and I was watching his paintings because
- 50:55Speaker 1: I paint as well and he paints. So he was
- 50:59Speaker 1: just smoking weed there and he was like we were
- 51:01Speaker 1: like we knew each other. First time I met him,
- 51:03Speaker 1: it was me, him and R Kelly and we were
- 51:05Speaker 1: just hanging out in Manhattan. Yeah, it was just Yo,
- 51:08Speaker 1: that sounds like an amazing just one day recreate that
- 51:13Speaker 1: into Yeah, it was just so weird. There was like
- 51:15Speaker 1: something that Noisey was doing and we were there and
- 51:18Speaker 1: then we didn't really get a chance to talk but
- 51:20Speaker 1: he always showed me love and always gave me like
- 51:22Speaker 1: a heads up and always talked to me. And the
- 51:26Speaker 1: second time we met, I met it. We met up
- 51:27Speaker 1: on the street. He knew about me, he knew I
- 51:29Speaker 1: was our beaning coming up. And he's very competitive action bronze.
- 51:33Speaker 1: He don't like keeping people around him. His circles super tight.
- 51:36Speaker 1: So he sees his other alband guy. He's like, I
- 51:38Speaker 1: don't know how I feel about this. Boom boom boom.
- 51:41Speaker 1: So I'm popping off my years going off. I'm all
- 51:43Speaker 1: over for Times Square. So he invites me. He's like, okay,
- 51:45Speaker 1: he's boom man. Let me just bring him and see
- 51:47Speaker 1: what's up. So I go to his apartment, smoking weed,
- 51:51Speaker 1: having a conversation with me. His leg is broken or
- 51:53Speaker 1: something and he's just going through it. And you know
- 52:00Speaker 1: him the eighties album, not the album that was coming out,
- 52:03Speaker 1: but I played him and they just loved it. He's like,
- 52:06Speaker 1: you're not a rapper and I was like I'm not,
- 52:08Speaker 1: and he's like, ship, I thought you were a rapper
- 52:11Speaker 1: and then he opened up and like you're just the sweetheart.
- 52:14Speaker 1: He's like he's the best. He's the fucking best. I
- 52:17Speaker 1: love him and he cut this verse for me and
- 52:19Speaker 1: I never got we never got a chance to make
- 52:21Speaker 1: the album because it was so late. But I still
- 52:24Speaker 1: have it and it's just it's it's just it's so funny.
- 52:28Speaker 1: It's like it's gonna play it. It's exclusive. No one's
- 52:31Speaker 1: ever heard this sounds hard, bro, Yeah, this is all
- 52:42Speaker 1: it is the interlude of the outro to my first
- 52:45Speaker 1: Just the outro to my first Gashy album sounds like
- 52:52Speaker 1: a sample. It's not. Definitely must make sure you get
- 52:58Speaker 1: that Gashy album because uh, a lot of people slept

- 53:06Speaker 1: Logan Hide it's smooth. Hey say hey, now what brass
- 53:19Speaker 1: the floor like Michael Chasing at the Super Bowl, rab
- 53:22Speaker 1: My crass on the believe the saying Bosh, I need
- 53:26Speaker 1: like fifteen hands for all these damn watches, but no
- 53:29Speaker 1: time for noise. Bitch, I'm not playing. I'm not saying
- 53:34Speaker 1: who I did time when I would not say you
- 53:37Speaker 1: will live a find it on the yacht. We ain't
- 53:39Speaker 1: no me either. Convenge a Sweeter with their hair cut,
- 53:43Speaker 1: double headed eagle on their hand, the lood the heat up.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Hey I do this for my freedom up until I
- 53:49Speaker 1: meet a Leah go be acting crazy throwing bosses at
- 53:53Speaker 1: a movie because says that has been show. I'm smoking
- 53:56Speaker 1: till my thumb stop paring it. That's the you know,
- 53:59Speaker 1: I'm stronger in the sty of brothers put together. Run
- 54:03Speaker 1: to that's my old dish, like some skin off the snake,
- 54:07Speaker 1: and I can see the moon in the date time.
- 54:10Speaker 1: I'm like, just like myself, a Sion would a Creaki. Listen, man,
- 54:18Speaker 1: you gotta figure out something to put that verse on, bro,
- 54:21Speaker 1: because that's that's one of them action verses. He didn't
- 54:23Speaker 1: just give you a throwaway, bro. I think he realized
- 54:26Speaker 1: that was a moment. Yeah, it was a moment man,
- 54:28Speaker 1: cause he came through. He did strong as both the
- 54:30Speaker 1: Steiner brothers. Man, come on, bro, he's as I rise
- 54:34Speaker 1: like Michael Jackson at the That's the way to start
- 54:36Speaker 1: a verse, Yeah, he said, he said, hand on the
- 54:38Speaker 1: heat of what the two headed Eagle, which is our
- 54:40Speaker 1: band thing. You know what I'm saying. That's crazy. Are
- 54:43Speaker 1: you gonna? Are you gonna? I mean, you gotta repurpose
- 54:45Speaker 1: that verse, man, You never know. I got I gotta
- 54:47Speaker 1: look up action man. I gotta that ship is fire.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It is. And you know what, man, I I love him, dude,
- 54:54Speaker 1: I love him, I respect him, and and I'm so
- 54:56Speaker 1: proud of him. And he's losing weight now again. Yeah man,
- 54:59Speaker 1: he's getting shit together and congratulations on his son. And
- 55:02Speaker 1: he's all, you know, for the record, like he's always
- 55:04Speaker 1: like had his ship together. It's not like but you know,
- 55:05Speaker 1: I just think that, you know, we all have our vices,
- 55:07Speaker 1: and food for me is my vice mine too, but
- 55:09Speaker 1: he always had this shit together. But like, just to
- 55:11Speaker 1: see him trying to be like healthier to live for
- 55:14Speaker 1: his son, it's a beautiful to beautiful things then. And
- 55:17Speaker 1: I'm just proud of him, you know, I love him.
- 55:19Speaker 1: I love to see my people do well. And and
- 55:22Speaker 1: I'm winning. I'm not. I'm not. This not a conversation
- 55:24Speaker 1: of me as a loser. A lot of people say
- 55:27Speaker 1: nice things about people when they're losing. I'm actually a
- 55:30Speaker 1: fucking winner right now. This is me talking as a
- 55:32Speaker 1: winner talk and and and yeah, I would love to
- 55:35Speaker 1: see you guys officially do something. I mean, you guys
- 55:38Speaker 1: have done something. Yeah, But I just think Action is
- 55:41Speaker 1: one of my favorite rappers and yeah that's dope, yo.

- 56:20Speaker 1: Nipsey changed your life. Yeah, kind of obviously. You know
- 56:24Speaker 1: Nipsey is one of the greats Rest in peace, man,
- 56:26Speaker 1: He's a close friend of mine. Still can't believe, man,
- 56:30Speaker 1: it's about to be two years next year in March.
- 56:33Speaker 1: What what was your interaction with Nipsey and how did
- 56:36Speaker 1: that affect you? Because the energy, you don't think that's crazy,
- 56:40Speaker 1: The fact that like I'm the I'm becoming one of
- 56:42Speaker 1: the pop artists, like one of the big pop artists,
- 56:45Speaker 1: like I'm becoming like I'm becoming like Phil Collins, like
- 56:49Speaker 1: the New York Times of Phil Collins, the whole other
- 56:51Speaker 1: type of pop we're talking too. Yes, yeah, like like
- 56:54Speaker 1: timelessless iconic pop, right, and I'm becoming that and uh
- 57:05Speaker 1: so say okay, so say this, right, say Gashy becomes
- 57:09Speaker 1: the new like George Michael, Phil Collins, sting of this
- 57:12Speaker 1: generation where I'm like timeless and everyone's like coming to
- 57:15Speaker 1: my shows a sold out. I'm like, I'm like, I'm
- 57:18Speaker 1: doing the Brooks Out like twice, like Sola Garden twice,
- 57:26Speaker 1: becoming legendary. Kids are losing their mind. I'm becoming like
- 57:30Speaker 1: fucking insane, right to say, there's videos of me and
- 57:34Speaker 1: Nipsey in the studio after that. How insane is that story?
- 57:39Speaker 1: You know? I think it's a it's a you know,
- 57:40Speaker 1: your come up man, It's it's insane coming up as
- 57:43Speaker 1: a rapper out of New York. It's insane. It's crazy.
- 57:47Speaker 1: You know. I met this guy through a shout out
- 57:49Speaker 1: to my friend Austin Rosen. He made it possible. He
- 57:51Speaker 1: brought Nipsey to the studio and Austin Austin managers post Alone,
- 57:57Speaker 1: Like he's like he's the reason for Postmone being as
- 57:59Speaker 1: big as he is. Austin Rosen brought Nipsey to his studio,
- 58:04Speaker 1: brought me in, played the record. Nipsey loved it, told
- 58:07Speaker 1: me I was dope enough to really make it happen.
- 58:10Speaker 1: And after I met Nipsey Nipsey, I felt it was
- 58:12Speaker 1: real and I could drop out and make it happen.
- 58:14Speaker 1: He made me feel that way. So you met. So
- 58:17Speaker 1: Nipsey was coming in to lay a verse for you
- 58:19Speaker 1: or just to work. And so Nipsey came into the
- 58:21Speaker 1: studio with this guy named Johnny and yeah and yeah.
- 58:28Speaker 1: Austin was like, I want to get Nipsey on this record.
- 58:31Speaker 1: I want to play him the record. So we played
- 58:32Speaker 1: in the record. He's like, Yo, this ship is tight,
- 58:33Speaker 1: this was your record, this is my record. Yeah, and
- 58:35Speaker 1: then we got Nipsey was like this is fire. Just
- 58:38Speaker 1: jumped in the booth, cut it real quick. And then
- 58:40Speaker 1: he's telling me you know, I mean like I was
- 58:42Speaker 1: telling them like I really want to do this shit,
- 58:43Speaker 1: and he was like, oh, yes, this ship fire, bro,
- 58:46Speaker 1: like you can do it, and like like Nipsey was
- 58:50Speaker 1: my favorite upcoming rapper so I was telling Austin about him.
- 58:53Speaker 1: I was like, I get him on a verse, like
- 58:54Speaker 1: it's nothing, because he was just coming up so you
- 58:57Speaker 1: could get Nipsey on the verse, you know, And because
- 59:00Speaker 1: I looked at I was looking at Nipsy like our
- 59:02Speaker 1: generation Snoop. Yeah, you know what I think when he
- 59:06Speaker 1: first came out, that was kind of like they look
- 59:08Speaker 1: very similar. They look similar. They're both very similar, not similar,
- 59:12Speaker 1: but they had very each of them had a very
- 59:13Speaker 1: distinct tone. Yeah, and they look like, you know, they
- 59:17Speaker 1: look like he's a crip and right he was just
- 59:19Speaker 1: so hard, like skinny with the plaids and the genes
- 59:23Speaker 1: at the converse, like it was just so snoop. And
- 59:27Speaker 1: I was like, Yo, this guy's gonna be our Snoop,
- 59:29Speaker 1: our icon. And I was like he's gonna be the
- 59:33Speaker 1: biggest And everybody around me's like, what the hell are
- 59:36Speaker 1: you talking about? Dog? I was like, yo, can I
- 59:39Speaker 1: get him on a verse? Like I can make that call.
- 59:41Speaker 1: That's nothing, you know what I mean? Everyone around is
- 59:44Speaker 1: like it's not a big deal. But I think I think,
- 59:47Speaker 1: you know what, like not to toot my own horn, man,
- 59:49Speaker 1: but I think I have the vision to see somebody
- 59:53Speaker 1: in twenty years, to see somebody in ten years, to
- 59:56Speaker 1: see somebody. I could look at somebody and know if
- 59:58Speaker 1: they're gonna be somebody or not. Music business, Yeah, man,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Nipsey was one of those guys. The first time I
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: met him was in O nine. He came in freestyle
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: on my show in Boise, Idaho, when I was doing
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: radio and Boise Wow. That was my first full time job,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: crazy and killed it. Yeah. He had a mixtape out
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: called Bulletin Got No Names. Oh I love that. I
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: love still still play it. Yeah, Part one and two
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: right two is my ship Roll the Windows Upside? Oh
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: my god. But yeah, rest in peace to Nipsey. You
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: mentioned being around Austin early. I feel like generic fans
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: of music might compare you in Posty together. Yeah, just
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: because you guys have a lot of tattoos, because we're
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: both at white boys. Fair enough. What like were you
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: around post early on? Yeah? I mean I was friends
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: with post I was friends with Austin. I was friends
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: with them. We'd ride around in my mom's car and
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: like play music, and we had like very similar taste,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Like we liked the same shit and early on, like
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: you said that you could see uh kind of people
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: ahead of their time. Did you did you see Posts
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: like and be like, you know, hey, this guy could
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: be one of the biggest artists in the world. I
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: didn't see that Post. I knew that. I knew he
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: was a special soul, Like he's a good dude, he's
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: a great guy, and he was just a special energy
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: and like we'd laugh, you know, he's this kid. Was
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: this prior to him moving to La He moved to
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: LA already at the time, but like, you know, we
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: just drive around my mom's car and listen to the
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: iPod and he'd played me his stuff and we play
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: He was in my video, his my first video. You know,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: it was just weird, Like you know, yeah, I think
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: me and Post he kind of faded off when people
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: started comparing us and it became weird. So like I
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: feel like that's somebody who you know when you talk
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: about like y'all was around a lot of the biggest
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: artists early on. Like do you feel like you might
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: have maybe had some sort of influence on Posts early on?
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: I don't know, I you know, I don't know did
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: that first already him? You probably know Charlie Handsome Ryan, Yeah,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I love Charlie Han. Yeah. So Ryan, like like Ryan's
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: from Phoenix, where I'm from. Yeah, and he had reached
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: out to me, like when I was doing radio on
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Tampa in twenty fourteen, twenty fourteen, and it was like
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: dude White iverson I'm at the time. Ryan was telling
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: me he was managing post Yeah, I mean everybody was.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Everybody was managing posting some dre you know whatever. But yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: It's just it's interesting because I do feel like you guys,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: like you like what you just said about his energy
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: and what I said about your energy earlier. Yeah, we
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: have We're very similar, you know, we're very similar. We
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: smile a lot, and we have similar music taste and
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: what we like singing and hitting such the same similar melodies.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: And you know, it's another reason why like I'm happy
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: at this eighties album is because like you can't compare
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: me to anybody, to anybody when I sing the way
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I do with the eighties stuff. And you know, you know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Poster is around, and you know a lot of artists,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: you know, like even with Khalid Man, you know, like
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Khalid I was driving around Khalide played me his first
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: album before he became anybody you know. Wow. Yeah, I
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: feel like Khalid is another one of the early Spotify
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: success stories exactly like I was. Just I was blessed
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: enough to be around all these artists and learn from
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: them as well as much as they learn from me.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I learned from them, and I'm so happy that my
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: career is going the way it is. I've I think
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four might be the time. I think nineteen
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: eighty I think this interview is the last interview I
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: do before I get ruined. Well, do try not to
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: get ruined. When you say get ruined, what do you mean,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: actually specify? Like I might blow up and just become
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: generic and become Walmart. If it happens the right way,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I might become Target. Do you want? I mean, that's
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: not what I want. I have no choice. I have
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: no option. That's true. It's almost like once you blow up,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: it's like I feel like I just I felt this
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: way about the baby, right, so the baby. I've been
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: a fan of the baby for a long time before
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: anybody who the fuck he was. We interviewed him twenty seventeen.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: This is when he was doing his diaper shit at
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: south By Southwest I fucked with his music because he
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: was talking about moving packs and selling weed and like
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: I come from that world, so I was like I
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: related to his shit. Yeah, And like now I'm not
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: excited to hear new music from the baby anymore because
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: he's so big that I kind of just like I'm like, Okay, well,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: like what I loved him for, he's not really doing anymore,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: Like I'll hear the shit I need to hear. Yeah,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: but it's just like he's like target now, yes, you
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know what
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: it's like. And it's not and it's not like he's
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: not making dope shit still, it's just like, you know,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: it's like what you just said, It's like it's not
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: up to you. It's not you know, and if you
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: with any amount of certain commercial success, like that just
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: kind of happens. That happens. Yeah, Like my boys little
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: sister is like like she was the biggest Billie Eilish
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: fan and now she's fucking Walmart and now I'm like, yo,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Billy dropped a new song. I'm not really into Billy anymore.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: We mentally do that. Kanye I think was the last
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: artist for me that like, just because like what we
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: talked about earlier with him, where would be like, I
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: just want I can't wait to see what he's doing.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Even I feel like Travis to a certain extent, but
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: like Kanye, I've lost that with him recently because I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: really was not a fan of the Jesus King shit.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm like I said, man like, but Kanye
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: like became Walmart, but didn't like it was the Walmart
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I wanted to go to exactly exactly exactly, like can
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: go buy some fucking cargo shorts and a video? I
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: just I don't remember the last time I felt the
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: way I felt when I turned the TV on and
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I saw Kanye West wear on leather performing black Skinhead.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: That hasn't happened for me in a very long time.
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: And that's all I'm gonna say. I'm gonna leave it
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: at that. No one's impressive. I love Travis Scott good day.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: He does what he does and that's amazing. But I
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: can't wait to see if he changes his sound. You
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying. I'm just not looking like the
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: last time where you were like fuck, when was the
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: last time you said shut the fuck up? Don't talk
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: to me. My headphones are on. I am gonna be
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: focused right now. When was that that has never happened?
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: You listen to it like, oh here we go generic
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: shit again. Now. I think when we're talking about the
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: upper echelon of artist I don't disagree with you. I
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: think that, you know, there's artists that I'm like that with,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: but they're like some boom bab like yo, fucking west
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Side guns, pray for Paris is out Let me the
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: fuck alone, you know what I mean. But you love that.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: It's good. That's good that you still find something that
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you love. You know, you like that. I mean, you
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: know you have to. I feel like I feel like
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I'm doing that for my fans right now, and that's
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: what makes me happy. My fans are like, shut up,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: he's dropping something and I'm gonna listen to it because
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I know it's going to be a different sound, and
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: that's what I got to continue to do it. The
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: minute I stop doing yeah, the minute I stop doing that,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: it's over for me. Dog. Hey, look, I also think
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: that there's a good chance that we look back at
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: this interview in a year and that your project, let's say,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: you know, like you said, influential. People are loving it,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: so we might look back in a year and like
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: the eighty sound is going to be all over a
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: bunch of people. Shit, you know what I'm saying, Like, now,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: will you get the credit for it? Probably not, I
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: never do, but you know, I mean, we'll see. But
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I can definitely see, like even just the sonics of
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: like the production and shit, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: Like I could see like people tapping in with at
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: now because they're like, oh, oh, exactly, this can work exactly.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: I mean, you know what one thing I admired about
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: reading in all the magazines after I dropped the album
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: was authentic, real original. The words that I was looking
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: for was these artists released sounding similar, sounding, eighty sounding,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: but not authentic copycats. And you read what I'm what
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: they write about. My shit, it's authentic, real original. And
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: that's the things that I was looking for. And that's
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: I hit it on the head. Where I was did
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: it was not sound looking at copycat, and I made
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: a sound that people loved and was original. I brought that.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: I brought a sound that was modern eighty sound. You
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: and I are movie buffs. You said something earlier, how
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: the movies aren't the same anymore, And they're not. But
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: what's the last movie? You say all that, like you
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: really really fucked with where you were, like, yeah, this
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: is a this is a special one right here for me,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: it was uncut gems. Now, I also happen to be
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I'm a degenerate sports gambler, So I related to that movie.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: I hate something crazy. It was a very stressful anxiety anxiety.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: If you watch that movie and you've lived that, you're
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: like the only the best part about that movie was
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: having It's got a cool KG. He was a great
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: actor in it. But the best part it was my
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: boy Greg. You know, Yeah, he's a great he's an
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: amazing jeweler. It's incredible. He's one of my great friends.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: And he believed in me. I love him and uh,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: but yeah, that was that movie. I'll tell you the
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: story after we stopped this interview. Oh about that movie? Yeah,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I'll tell you specific movie. Yeah, I'll tell you a
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: crazy story. What are you a sports gambler? No? No,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: but I'll tell you a crazy story. Like, no, but
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: what was that? What was the last movie for you?
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: You saw that? Like you like that, You're not okay,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: this is this is this is fire like not fire
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: like you know at the because it's on Netflix, but
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: like just some ship that you're like, oh, this is
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: some shit I'm watching twenty years Oh wow, if any
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: I don't know. Man, like the movies recently, I don't know, dude,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Like it's like difficult, like I watch only old movies.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: I don't really. I watched the New Ones, but I
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: don't care. Bad Boys three was kind of trash. It's horrible.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: She was terrible. Man, all this ship is garbage. All right.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: People hated it. I'm saying. Let me just say this.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: People hated the Queen movie. Okay, Bohemian raapsy, Yes, they
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: hated it. Everyone hated it. I actually liked it. I
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: liked it, and dude killed it. The actor killed it, yeah,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: at the Museum. I don't know his name. Yeah, that
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: was a good movie. Is the Elton John movie? Not
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: so much? Your shout out to Elton John? Actually he's
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: a he's a legend. I was. You know, that's one
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: of my biggest inspirations. When I shoot videos, they try
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: to look like him. Okay, what do you think of
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: that movie? It was good, it was I just think
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: they should have gave a heads up saying it was
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: a musical. True, we ain't get no heads up. You
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: just like saw the trailer and you like diving here,
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: you go in there and it's like, oh shit, it's
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: a musical. But I love that and John and I
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: love him very much. And if he didn't exist, I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: don't think i'd be here honestly, because he's influenced me
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: so much. What about are you? Like, like, are you
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: a big TV guy? Like do you binge watch series
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: and ship? Like? Man, I'm right now watching Fresh Prince
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Bell there runs and I love you know, my favorite
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: cartoon is Hey Arnold. Hey Arnold was fire. Yeah, I
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: got the tattoo on my leg. But yeah, I love
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Hey Arnold so much, you know, and Doug two of
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: the most slept on. Yeah that was cool. I never
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: really got into it like that, but like, hey Arnold
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: is my ship, Like, Hey Arnold is my ship. Rocket
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Power is my ship. But like I just rewatched The
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Wire with my wife. Oh the Wire. I was friends
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: with the guy Panama back then. He always believed in me.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: I have the weirdest connections in the world. I'm friends
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: with the weirdest people I really am. I'm friends with,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: I'm friends I'm connected with. I've been through the crazies.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: My life is insane. My life is insane. I'm friends
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: with the most that you would never think I'm friends
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: with these people. Yo, man, I mean, I didn't know
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: you were on the run in Iceland. That's fucking crazy.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: I know, Iceland, but yeah, but an interesting place to
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: choose to go to, I know. But life. Life is
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: crazy right now, you know. And I still can't believe
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: where we're in. This situation we're in, you know. But
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: no one can run away right now, and that's what's scary.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: We're trapped in the world right now. And twenty twenty
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: is the new nineteen eighty four. And if you ever
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: read George, if you ever yeah, if you ever read
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: the Orwell book, it's kind of crazy the fact that
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: I dropped the nineteen eighty four album after I recorded
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: it in twenty fifteen now because these other dark times
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: we're living in, and I think I prayed that we're
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: still alive after the elections. Election is going to be interesting. Man,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: It's going to be like you said, it could be
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: the It feels like it could be like the climax
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: to the end of the world, yeah, or the end
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: of the world as we know it. Yes, So I'm
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: just happy that I released a project. I saw my
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: billboard on Sunset across the street from the chateau, which
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: is all that. Yeah. Yeah, because my third album is
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: going to be recorded in the chateau. Ok. Yeah, so
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: this is exclusive stuff that I'm telling you. Actually, I've
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: never told anyone. Third album was recorded on in the
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: chateau because of John Belushi. That's where he passed. Yeah,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: and he's a big, big influence and big inspiration because
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: he was the first Albanian male in Hollywood. Wow, I
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: didn't know that. I didn't even know he was. He
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: was Albanian. Ye have him tattered on me as well?
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: And you know, have you met his brother? Yes, I'm
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: actually from Jim. Yeah, Jim. Jim had a run too,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: man that you know. I've had lunch with him in
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: friends with his kids and stuff, like we talked on Instagram.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: So you and the Belushi's got some some uh some
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: some genuine relationship. Yeah, I've met them, met his brother
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: a couple of times. But as far as like John,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: like John Store, John just probably a lot of inspiration
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: as a kid, being like, yo, somebody from where I'm from, Yeah,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: has made it into Hollywood. It's never happened. I mean,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: look at the Albanian artists and Dua Lipa. You know,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: I didn't even know Alpa was Albanian. But then again,
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. Look what you're saying, I don't listen
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: to do but hold on though, Look what you're saying.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: Did you know rider or it was? I did not
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: exactly what you're saying, did you. Yeah, we'll ended there.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: So there's like I just think it's dope that you
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: wrap that shit like you know what I'm saying. I
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: think it's important. Make sure make sure that you send
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: me that clip exactly what just happened right now. Send
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: it to me because I want to post that on
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: my social media because see, my country right now is
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: not on the map on Apple. Apple's not putting my
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: country on a map Kosovo, And you got all these
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: girl artists right now saying complaining that they should put
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: it on the map. How are you expecting anyone to
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: put anything on a map if you never put it
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: on a map, if you don't talk about it, if
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: you hide where you're from and you're hiding because you
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: want to be cool. I've been wrapping where I'm from
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: since I came in his business. Nothing's changed. I have
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: that shits tattered. I have Kosovo on my belly, I
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: have it on my hand. You have to see it.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I can't hide it. You understand, they don't rep it
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: and now they don't have us on a map. And
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: it's because you never repped it. And I'm not saying
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: dual leap because du A Leapa has been repping it
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: and she's slowly. She's from London as well, but like
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: a lot of the other girls, they don't rep a shit.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: So I'm a I'm a little so as a kid obviously,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I remember just on the news the Kosovo conflict that
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: was when Clinton was president. Yeah, I'm not educated, so
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: you could educate me. Albania Kosovo is close, like like
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: kind of is. We're basically brother and sister. You know
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: what I'm saying the same thing. I'm just trying to
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: you know, it's the same thing basically, but Coastvo it's
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: his own country, but Serbian Kosovo have gotten into it
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: because of Lange and we got out independence finally. But
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: they still are not acknowledging us as a country on
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: the Google maps and putting us they're putting us as
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: a number. Wow. You understand that's a problem because we
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: did get out in dependence. We are a country. A
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: coast vote is our country. The other thing that pisses
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: me off is the fact that, you know, we shared
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: the flag with Albania, we shared the same flag, and
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: then now we have our blue flag, which is like
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: a blue and yellow flag. And I don't really respect
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: that because I because my people died for that flag,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: and now you've given us independence but a new flag.
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: It's like, it's not It's like, you know what I mean,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: It's like put a band aid over a cut, you
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But you know, I want us
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: to be respected as a country, and I want us
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: to be put on a map. Nothing hurts me more
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: in my heart. It's like every time I land in Coastovo,
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: I feel like I'm getting stabbed in the throat. Every
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: time my iPhone says welcome to Serbia. Wow, because I
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: have families that died. They died, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: Sorry about that. It's all good, man, I mean, I
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: do feel like I have families that died for this
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: country to be acknowledged. I have families, family members, and
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: my people died, my people have been raped, my people
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: have been started, and they've been through a lot for
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: this country. And now you're not putting us on a map.
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: What type of bullshit is that? You know what I mean,
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: We've been through it all and we deserve to be
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: respected and acknowledged as a country. I think it's important
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: to educate people on that, because, you know, we just
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: had somebody, my boy Armine from Armenia, was kind of
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: educated me on you know how a lot of people
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: don't acknowledge the Armenian genocide and a lot of people
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: just don't know, you know. And I think that with
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: the Kosovo thing, like for me, I just kind of have,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: like I guess, a generic remembrance of being a kid
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: and seeing the news seeing that there was a conflict there,
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: but I don't necessarily know. I don't really know what
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: happened outside of their you know, just seeing Clinton, I think,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: what did US aid Kosovo? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, man, we're
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: gonna talk about that when the cameras we just you know,
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: at the end of the day, like no, no, no no,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: I get now what you said. I just don't want
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: to get too deep into it because we'll be in
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: a rabbit hole fever. Like what I'm saying to you is,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: you know, every day I fight for my music, but
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: at the same time, I don't want to forget my
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: roots and where I'm from. You know, even though my
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: people at times could be super toxic on me because
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: that one day I don't rep or say I'm from Kosovo,
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: they just come down on me so much. Any mistake
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: I make, they come down on me. And it's because
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: you know, sometimes your people are hard on you else
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: everyone else. You know what I'm saying. So but I've
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: been repping and your proof of that saying yo, I
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: always knew you were all banning because I've been saying
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: it since the beginning of my career, you know. And yeah,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: I'm changing. I'm changing that. And I just think, you
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: know what, man, I love my country because they keep
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: me alive. You know, once America is over with Gashi
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: and they move on to the next act, my country
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: is going to keep me alive forever. And that's what
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: keeps Drake popping because Canada loves him and That's what
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: keeps Yanna popping because she her country loves her. That's
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: what keeps Kendrick popping because La loves him. You know
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Once you have your hometown, you can
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: get the whole world and you will always be relevant.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: You always make money because people know you have roots
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: to someplace. When you come and you don't have love
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: in your own country, and you think you get popping
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: in a different city, you'll get popping five minutes and
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: be out and you're done. You're done. I love my people.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I read for my people. You know what I'm saying
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: these pop artists. This is why I love Jimbnushi, and
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: this is why my third album is so about him.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: It's about me going fully Hollywood. It's about me going
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: fully pop because he's the only male Albanian to ever
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: be allowed in Hollywood. You know how difficult it is
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: to be accepted in Hollywood. You don't understand, especially in
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: the eighties. Exactly, Yeah, right, I'm about to be accepted
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: in Hollywood for the first time with his nineteen eighty
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: four album and then my third one. I'm fully gonna
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: be Hollywood, fully be celebrity, right, you know, what I'm saying.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: So you said, like the Target Walmart reference exactly. This
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: might be the last thing. So it's a big deal
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: when you have eight girls right now on the Billboard
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: charts that are Albanian that are killing it and I'm
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: the only male Albanian to ever do it in America. Ever,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: they will ever. You don't know when next time you'll
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: see me. I'm a total different beast. You will never,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: you will never. This might be the last time you
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: ever see anything like this in your entire life. That's
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: how crazy it is for my country. Super super super
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: super solid, super super duper solid people. You can't even
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: wear a pink shirt around someone super aggressive, manly man.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: To see me do pop music and dance the way
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I do, To be acknowledging El and John and be
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: saying dressing up with my pants the way they are
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: and doing it's like such a culture shock. What is
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: this kid doing? Y is he talking to the kids
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: for my country? Like it's all right to accept everyone
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: for who they are, to write to do this, it's
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: a right to not being a gangster throwing up gangs
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: signed shooting people. I'm on New York Times, not because
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: I caught bodies because of my music. It's a total
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: different thing that my country's never seen before. The kids
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: are looking at me like, what the hell. I don't
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: have to kill someone to be famous, Like I'm totally
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: going in a different direction. And a lot of people
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: are trying to close doors on me that are in
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: the Hollywood, but they can't because I'm fully in now.
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: I'm officially in now. You can't stop it anymore. And
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I earned my way in. I wrote every single song
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: with my bare hands. You can't stop it. I made it.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: This is why it's a big deal for my country.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: This is why it's a big deal for a male
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: like me to be in there. Because I'm teaching all
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: the kids rather they're gay, rather they're they're into like
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: pop music. Rather they're actually into the color pink and
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: are probably straight that maybe they're into the things that
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: they're not supposed to be into. I'm trying to teach
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: them that they're it's okay. It's okay to like, it's
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: okay to yourself to be yourself. It's okay to like
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: the things you like. It's okay. And that is what
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I'm doing. And I think it's the biggest moment for
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: my country. Well, I guess we ended on that, man,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: nineteen eighty four. Nineteen eighty four, go get it, Go
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: get it and buy some merch. Yeah, by merch at
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Goshi world dot com support man, you know what I mean.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: And I always donate, rather it's Global Citizen or a
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: different foundation, I'm always I'm always donating again, and that
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: that third album is already I'm assuming it's already in
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: the works. Yeah, already. Yeah. So are you gonna please
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: watch my documentary called Now you know it's on YouTube watch? Yes? Yes,
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: And bootlet keV thank you so much. You've always showed
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: me love. I appreciate you, man, And uh, it just
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: feels good. Feels good to be here, feels good to
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: be alive. It feels good. Yeah. This is why I
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: didn't want to do zoom man, because this is the
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: conversation we got to have. We couldn't have this conversation.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I mean, I got I got COVID tests. We have proof.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: I got COVID test. I believe you. I'm just saying like,
