Transcript
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hello, everyone.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another great episode of Truth Be Told.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: My name is Mickey.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, and joining me today is my co-host, Bethany.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: And today we are going to dive into a new topic of discussion, one that we haven't touched base on yet, and one that I think is really, really important.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: And so today, um, before we dive into that though, I will let Bethany come on and um just talk a little bit about what we have been doing, what we have been talking about, and um kind of the direction that the Lord has kind of taken us in when it comes to the topic that we're talking about.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And today we're going to be talking about forgiveness.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I think it's important that we understand um not only that we need forgiveness, but also how important it is for us to forgive others.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So um, Bethany, welcome in this morning.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And um, you want to share some of your thoughts on um our discussion today?
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Um before we do that though, let's pray.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: Dear Lord, I thank you once again for meeting with us, being here right now, Lord.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: We give this time to you, and we pray that you would speak through McKeon I and hear their thoughts, Lord.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: You know what the listeners need, and we pray that what we say would be of you, Lord, and we thank you for the time to talk about forgiveness and to say what you want us to say and not say what you don't want us to say.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: So we give it to you.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: We thank you for being here, Lord, in Jesus' name, amen.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, so this topic of forgiveness, personally, I believe there are more people than just myself who when we think about forgiveness, we think, well, why?
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Why do we need forgiveness?
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And so I want us to go back to Genesis and just see where forgiveness came from because before Genesis three persists there was no need for forgiveness because neither Adam nor Eve had sent.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: But Genesis three says changed all that and subsequently changed humanity in that regard, and in needing forgiveness.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And in Genesis chapter two, verses fifteen through seventeen, which I will read, we see how God commanded Adam and Genesis two, verses fifteen through seventeen verse fifteen.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And the Lord God took the man and put him in the midst.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: My apologies.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Verse 16, and the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Verse 17, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil thou shalt not eat of it, for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: And then go over to Genesis three.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: And he did eat.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: And then verse seven starts out by saying, And the eyes of them both were opened.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: So Genesis 3 says, I believe, is the start of the need for forgiveness, and so now the rest of this episode will be talking about forgiveness, and so Mickey, do you have thoughts on these verses?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Um, no, just the fact that I agree um that there is a great need for given for forgiveness, and a lot of people do question why is it necessary?
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Why do we need it?
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Um again for ourselves and for others.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: And as we dive into this, we'll be able to um break that down a little further.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: But um, I definitely agree that this is where it all started in in Genesis.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm right there with you on that.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: And I do believe as well that there are a lot of questions that people have, and it's wise for us to go back to that, to Genesis three, and not just simply give the answer, well, it's because of sin.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Because I personally believe just saying, well, it's because of sin leads to even more questions, and so um I just have a burden to help people understand um, you know, when we like we're talking about forgiveness.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Well, why?
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Um and other topics as well, and so that's maybe a longer answer than needed, but um I want to be sure to give sufficient explanation, and so in John chapter eight, the beginning of that chapter, there's an experience that in some ways probably could be relatable.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Not necessarily the whole experience exactly, and yet adultery is what this what these verses, verses one through eleven, are talking about.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: And I will read all eleven verses to give us context.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Um, or big key, would you mind reading those verses?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: One through eleven.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Um so John chapter eight, verse one through eleven.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Jesus went into the Mount of Olives, and early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him, and he sat down and taught them.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: And the scribes and the Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And when they had set her in the midst, they say unto him, Master, this woman has taken in adultery in the very act.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Now Moses in the law commands us that such should be stoned.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: But what sayest thou?
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: But Jesus stooped, stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: So then or so when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself and said unto him, He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone at her.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: And they which heard it begin con uh and they that which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: When Jesus had lifted up himself and saw none, but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers?
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Hath no man condemned thee?
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: She said, No man, Lord.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Neither do I condemn thee.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Go and sin no more.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Thank you for that.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, this is a very powerful passage, and the Bible is full of powerful passages to learn from, to apply, even though our experiences today aren't the same exactly as those in the Bible, even in these eleven verses.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: A lot of truth in these, and this specific experience, I think will be for another episode.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: But I was drawn to verse eleven after those who had accused the woman after they had left, and she was standing there, and Jesus was there.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Jesus says, Neither do I condemn thee.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: But he doesn't he doesn't stop there.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: And he doesn't even stop with the next word.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: He says, Neither do I condemn thee.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Go and sin no more.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: And that personally that strikes me very deeply.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: That here Jesus is this woman has been supposedly caught in very violent circumstances.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: And yet, what does Jesus say?
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Neither do I condemn the ego and sin no more.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: And I feel like he's saying that to each one of us.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: No matter what we do.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: And yet what do we continually do?
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: And yet Jesus compassion, Jesus mercy, Jesus forgiveness is there.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And so I just love how Jesus forgives.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: I love how Jesus loves.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: And yet he still loves us.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I don't deserve his love.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: He still loves me.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And so before I continue on with another scripture here, um, Mickey, what are your thoughts on this?
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Well, I know that there's a lot in this chapter, and especially in the first 11 verses, that we could break down.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: But um I think it's um important that we just understand that even though the law was to stone the person, Jesus still had mercy because but Jesus knew that day that every person standing there as an accuser also was living in some kind of sin.
- 17:25unknown: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times we point out other people's sin, but we don't take into you know take into um take to heart our own sin.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Um we're too busy pointing the finger, you know.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: And I I like this was this how he how he did this because it made everyone be accountable to their own sin in that moment, in that very moment.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Because Jesus knew that if any one of them did not walk away, they would be lying because they're they're all we're all sinners.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: It's impossible not to be a sinner.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And so I love how he showed mercy there, and he also showed her that even though she was a sinner, she wasn't alone in her sin.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: She wasn't the only one.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: And I felt like he had a great compassion on her for that.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of times we just feel so shamed.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: We we feel really shamed by her sin.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: And I can only just imagine when everybody's, you know, picking up rocks, getting ready to stone her.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and the fact that she's probably just completely humiliated being caught in the act of adultery, you know, that you know, she's probably feeling pretty low at that point.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: And God spared her not only her life, but He He He He gave her freedom from the sin.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: And he showed that love.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: So I this verse has this this verse in chapter has a lot, a lot in it.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: But um, I agree with you.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I think verse 11 is super powerful, where he just lets her know.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Um he doesn't condemn her.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: But he doesn't say continue on in your sin.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: He says don't do it anymore.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: You know, be aware.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: This is what this is what could happen if you continue.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: This is the path that you're on.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: You know, you're you're getting uh get out a free card basically, but don't do it again.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: You know, and you're forgiven.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: So if that makes sense.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: And I'd like to point that out that God doesn't, or I mean Jesus doesn't say, you know, you know, to go and continue on.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: He says to go and sin no more.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And he makes it very, very clear, it's very evident.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: We are to be walking out our own sin.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: So if that makes any sense.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: And I personally I would suggest that those who are listening, if you have an actual Bible with you somewhere, you either underline or highlight that last phrase of verse eleven and sin no more because uh I don't know why, but the Holy Spirit is just wanting me to emphasize that it's not about being sinless because we we can't be.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: No one can be here on earth.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: The only one who is sinless and perfect is God, and so I would encourage you to either underline or highlight that phrase and sin no more.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: Let that be an encouragement to you.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Again, it it's not about being sinless, but it's about not choosing to sin.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: And so now the next Is in Luke.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Luke chapter five.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: And Book five is another chapter that is full of encouragement.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: And verses twenty-one and twenty-two.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: They are in the midst of another experience.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: They probably thought that they were high and mighty and whatever.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: They really weren't.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And versus twenty one and twenty two.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Same.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And it's bad, is began to be some same.
- 23:48SPEAKER_01: Who is this?
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: Would speak at blasphemies.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Who can forgive sin?
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: But God alone.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Which is right.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: God is the only one that can forgive sin.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: But they were forgetting who Jesus was.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Verse 22.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered and said unto them, What be sing ye in your hearts?
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: And these verses would be for another episode in themselves.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: So I'm not gonna go into that.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: But the scribes and Pharisees were correct.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: And they said, who can forgive sins but God alone?
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: But Jesus was not speaking blasphemy because Jesus was God in the flesh.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: How do we know that?
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: That'll be our next verses.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: But um before that, Mickey, do you have thoughts on this?
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Um I think it's really interesting that you know the scripture makes it real clear who can forgive us.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: Um and again, I know we've already talked about um eternity and we've talked about salvation, but again, forgiveness kind of plays a role in that um when it comes to repentance.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: And so having um to be forgiven is necessary because it it allows us to confess to God that that we know that we're sinners, that we're not perfect, but we are we do mess up.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: But there's people that do sin and they don't feel any remorse or guilt for it.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: And God wants us to um not be that way.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: I really feel like he wants us to um feel a certain way about our sins so that we don't have the desire to continue to do it.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Some things, sometimes things in life when we sin, I think sometimes there are sins that we do one time and we don't ever do them again.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: We learn a lesson, you know.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: And for some people that's prison.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: Some people go to prison for it, you know, because there's some pretty, pretty big sins out there that that you know can be committed.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: And I know God looks at all sin pretty much the same.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, a lie, a little tiny white lie over someone being a murderer.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Some people think, well, how could that how could that be the same to God?
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: It's still sin.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: Still a sin.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: And um, so we need to be mindful.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: Um I think that sin itself, when we do it, it breaks God's heart.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: It just breaks his heart.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: And because he wants he wants better for us, he wants us to live a more purposeful life than to be walking in sin.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: But he knows we're gonna make mistakes, we're gonna mess up.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: So he's willing to forgive us, but we have to know that we've done wrong.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: And that's why, you know, I think, you know, he, you know, he is the only one that can for forgive, literally forgive that sin when it comes to going to heaven and and um when we ask for salvation, we ask for God to forgive our sins.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: And we repent daily.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: Because if we don't, those are the sins that we will answer to God for.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: And no one else is gonna be there to talk God out of what we did.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: You know, I don't care how many people were in the car when when when the bank robbery happened, you know, who was the driver, who was the robber, it don't matter if you're involved, you're involved, that you're still gonna be standing there with God alone.
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: They're not gonna be with you.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: So it's important to understand that God will be the one on judgment day that we have to be accountable for and and seek out that forgiveness.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: So it's important that we understand that.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Um, and it is important, you know, that we forgive one another, but it's it's even more so important that we understand that we need forgiveness from God.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: That makes sense.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, and even those religious leaders in there in Bible days you know, Jesus Jesus was with them physically and yet they still and it it just like what I mean how how is it possible that you can physically be with Jesus and yet still question and so that maybe that'll be another topic for another time.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: But I would encourage our listeners study for yourself the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: They are full overflowing with lessons, and so now let's look at John chapter one.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Let's see how Jesus was not blaspheming, like the scribes and the Pharisees accused him of John one verse one says in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: I would encourage you to highlight or underline that the word was God, and then go down to verse 14 says, And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: And so verse 14.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: Just because it doesn't say Jesus by name, we can tell, or we should be able to tell that verse 14 is talking about Jesus.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: And so that is why I personally I personally believe that Jesus he was not blaspheming when the scribes and the Pharisees thought he was Jesus was God in the flesh while he was here on earth and so that that should give us encouragement and there's John one and John one fourteen, or two more verses that we should be encouraged by.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: And Mickey, what are your thoughts on those?
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Well, John 1.1 is one of my favorite, um, one of my favorite verses in the Bible.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: But what I like about it is with John 14, um, and the word was made flesh, it just doesn't need to say um who was made flesh, because in John 1 it already tells you who, just confirming who again.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: And it tells you that, you know, the you know, the word was in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God, just like the Bible's the word, you know.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: So we a lot of people don't think it's inspired by God, but this scripture right here confirms it does.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: There's so much confirmation in this one verse in this book, and I love it so much.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: It's so simple, too.
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: Like it was the word, you know, God was the word, and the word was God, you know, and you know, that's it.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: You know, you know, that's who God is.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: And he's been there, been God since the very beginning.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: It also lets you know that Jesus was there in the beginning, because a lot of people don't believe in the Trinity.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: And I like to point out that this verse right here verifies that Jesus was in the very beginning because it says in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: So if God brought the word and then the word became flesh, which was Jesus, Jesus was in the beginning.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: And I love how it brings it all back together and it ties it all back into the Trinity, too.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: So that's why he's not blasphemous because he is God.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: He's allowed to condemn.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: He was sent to do that.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: He was sent by God to condemn so that we could be saved from hell.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: You know, it's an eternal um uh condemnation that we we get we receive from Jesus that he came to earth to bring us that gift.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: And a lot of people really don't look at it like that.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Um and and in today's world, I believe amongst Christians and religious leaders, there's a lot of this going on in the world today.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: A lot.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: That's why it says that we need to be very careful, and that's why it says few few will be chosen and many will be left.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: And what's sad about that is because we can't put on the pretend costume to be Christians and act like we're Christians if we don't know what this word says right here.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: If we don't know this word, it's important that we know the word of God and that we're walking it out.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna get it perfect.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: We're not God, God doesn't say to do it perfectly.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: You know, when you get the instruction manual and you build something and you put a shelf on, put one of the shelves on backwards, even though you're reading the instructions.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: Have you ever done that?
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Because I have.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: It's annoying.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: It's it's really annoying.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: And you're like, why isn't this working?
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: You know, you gotta go back sometimes to read the instructions or take it apart and do it again.
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: We're not perfect.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: You know, we make mistakes, even with the instructions, we we can mess it up.
- 37:00SPEAKER_00: You know, and God gave us the Bible, his word.
- 37:05SPEAKER_00: He gave us him, but he also gave us the Bible to give us an instruction manual on what to do.
- 37:11SPEAKER_00: And forgiveness is something that he wants he expects out of us.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: He wants us to you know to be forgiven.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: Repentance is part of of what we need to do.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: Because, again, I'll say this again, and I know I've said it many times.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: What we don't ask for forgiveness here on earth, we will account to on judgment day.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: And I really believe that.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: I believe that that's the judgment that we're gonna get.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Everything else that you've been forgiven for, that woman, that day was forgiven.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: That sin was no more to God, it was gone, never happened, just vanished, done, over with.
- 37:55SPEAKER_00: He didn't come back day after day after day and say, Are you still sinning?
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: Are you still sinning?
- 38:00SPEAKER_00: Jesus doesn't do that.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: We do that, we do that to people and to ourselves.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: And you know, that as we get into a little bit deeper into the forgiveness part of this um this lesson, we'll see that.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: But we need to understand that God forgave her and it was done.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Just like when he said it is finished on the cross, when he forgives you, it is finished.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: The sin is there no more.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: That's why it's important that we ask for forgiveness.
- 38:29SPEAKER_00: Super vital.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: But John 1 1 is one of my very favorite verses in John 14.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I love that when he talks about the word is flesh, it just confirms John 1 1 and it confirms um Genesis as well.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: It ties it all together.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: But the Bible's connected from start to finish.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, a lot of people think it's so complicated, it's really not.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Um I mean, it you know, if you're not if you're not paying attention, it can be, but the more you get into it, the more it is to um not only easier to understand, but the more you should be desiring it because it's so exciting to me.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: The word of God is exciting, knowing that God is gonna forgive me for all the stupid stuff I did in my life and has forgiven me for the stupid stuff because I've asked him to forgive me.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: And we need to, you know, not not take advantage of that, you know, because a lot of people say, well, then I can just go sin all I want.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: A lot of people do that.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Now, there's sometimes there's people that that are that that that are sinning that are really struggling to get out of that sin, but they have a desire to get out of it, you know.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: And my suggestion for that for those that are in that situation is just to keep on praying about it.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: God already knows.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: He knows you're you're struggling with it.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm mainly speaking for people that have addictions.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: It's really hard, it's not easy.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: Addiction is not easy.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of things that we become addicted to.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: And I'm not just talking about drugs and alcohol, I'm talking about all addictions.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: There's many addictions out there, you know.
- 40:08SPEAKER_00: People that are addicted to their phones.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, that's an addiction.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: People that are addicted to food, uh, people that are addicted to pornography, you know, people there, there's people out there addicted to hate.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: That's really a sad one.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: It's detrimental.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: So I I just I encourage our listeners that as we're going through the scripture that to really take heart today to what we're talking about, because it's it's really important that we understand that forgiveness is necessary, and that's the why.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: That's why it's it's super necessary.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes we don't think we need to be forgiven, and I'll be honest with you, that's the enemy speaking, and that's pride.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: That is our pride.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: We all need to be forgiven.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: So it's really important.
- 41:00SPEAKER_00: So, anyway, I'll let you continue on to the next scripture.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: So Doc provoking two.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: And now, um, for the last scripture for this episode.
- 41:25SPEAKER_01: A verse that some of you may know, maybe even by heart, maybe you can even quote it.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: A verse that is often looked to especially um for eternal salvation.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: But I do wonder sometimes how often it's thought of in our day-to-day life.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: How often do we consider this verse in our day-to-day life?
- 42:15SPEAKER_01: And that verse, first John one, verse nine.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: And it's a very straightforward, very clear verse, I believe.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: Very understandable, nothing really complicated about it.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: The verse says if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: The first word of that verse.
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: I encourage you circle that, underline it, highlight it.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: But it's our action.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: It's our taking initiative to confess our sins.
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: And like I say, that verse is not just for eternal salvation, not just for becoming that verse is for every day, I believe because notice what initiates God's hour.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: If we don't confess when needed if we if we go on sinning and we don't confess, God is not obligated to forgive us.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: I don't believe God is not obligated to cleanse us.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: And not waiting to confess them, but doing it immediately right away.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: No, Satan may love to tempt us to be like, oh, you can wait.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: You don't have to confess that now.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Remember.
- 46:04SPEAKER_01: One of Satan's characteristics.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: The father of lies.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: He only knows how to lie.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: He never does the truth.
- 46:21SPEAKER_01: Ever.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Never, ever.
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: But God.
- 46:27SPEAKER_01: God is the opposite.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: God cannot lie.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Ever.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: And so this worship would be an encouragement to us.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: Yes, we have to initiate by confessing when we sin.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: But then God steps in and he forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: And maybe circle that word all as well.
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: So you understand that it's not just some, but it's all and so yes.
- 47:41SPEAKER_01: I wanted this verse to be a concluding verse for this episode to encourage you and hope you don't understand that.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: God is ready and willing to forgive you.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: You have to finish it.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: And when you confess your sins, he is there.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Forgiving you, cleansing you not to go and sin.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: But to be restored in that relationship that you started when you became a Christian.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: And I don't know about you, Mickey, but that is one of the most encouraging things ever for me.
- 48:48SPEAKER_01: And so what are your thoughts on this verse?
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: Um, it's a it's it is a really good verse.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: I actually already have it highlighted in my Bible for that very reason.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Um but um it's important that we also have the desire to want to be to be cleansed as well, and um from from all of from all of our sins.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: And like I like I mentioned before that um um sin could be something as as small as a white lie to someone, you know, to being a murderer.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: Um God looks at sin as sin.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: It's all sin.
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: Now the now the enemy looks at sin, like you said, because he's such a liar, um, the way he he did in the garden, like it's not that big of a deal.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Just go ahead and do it.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Nothing's gonna happen.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: You'll be fine.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: And the scripture tells us differently.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: It tells us very much differently, you know, that that's not true.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Um, so we need to be very mindful and we need to be um aware and we need to be alert um to those triggers from the enemy as well.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm glad that you brought that up.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: But we also need to be accountable for what we do for our own actions.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: We may be tempted by the by the enemy, but we also get to make the choice.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: It's our choice.
- 50:14SPEAKER_00: In the at the end of the day, we're the ones who make the decision.
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: Like you said, it's our actions that starts the activation.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: So when we do mess up, though, God wants us to activate the forgiveness side of it too, you know, because he wants us to recognize that we understand and we know that what we have done is wrong.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: Um, sometimes I believe sin is done intentional, and sometimes I believe it's unintentional.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: I think there's sins that we do every day that we don't realize that we're really doing on purpose, and we're not doing it purposely, but we do it.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: And then there's times that it's very intentional and we know we're doing it.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: Whether we're being tempted by the enemy or not, it's still at the end of the day our decision to make that call.
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: We needed we need to be accountable for who we are.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: And um, a lot of times people don't want to be accountable, they want everyone else to be, and we forget that.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: So this is a really good good scripture because if we want to be cleansed of all unrighteousness, everything.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: And and for those that are listening, there's no sin too great that God cannot forgive you for, by the way.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: When it says all, like like Bethany said, to circle it, underline it, highlight it, that word all, it means all sin.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: So no matter how big you think your sin is, sometimes we think that we cannot be forgiven because we have sinned so big.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: That's not who God is.
- 51:53SPEAKER_00: And I know you wanted to finish this, but if I wanted to look at the verse 10 because it kind of also concludes with it, it says, if we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in it.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: So if we're looking at sin and we know it's a sin, we know what God's word says about it.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: He just says to ask for forgiveness for it.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: That woman at the well, I guarantee you, she wasn't having a good day.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: She was not in a good position.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: She was probably feeling pretty low on herself.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: I'm sure her self-esteem was in the toilet, honestly, because I'm sure she was scared, terrified, um, felt horrible for what she had done, knowing that what she had done was wrong.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: And he forgave her.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: Now, she could have walked around with that shame on her, or she could have left it right there where Jesus said, Go and sin no more.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: I have forgiven you at that moment.
- 52:59SPEAKER_00: And I'm hoping that she walked away with nothing but peace and freedom in her heart.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Because that's what God wants us to walk away with.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: So I want to just explain one thing about forgiveness, real quick, is if we ask God to forgive us, and then we walk away and we think, well, he probably didn't forgive me.
- 53:20SPEAKER_00: We're also calling him a liar.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: You got to be careful when you think that.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: And that's the enemy.
- 53:28SPEAKER_00: That is also the enemy whispering, do you think he really forgave you?
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: Your sin is so bad, there's no way he's ever going to forgive you for that.
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: You can ask him a thousand times, he's not gonna do it.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: That is a lie straight from the pit of hell.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Literally.
- 53:45SPEAKER_00: And if you hear that in your mind, you need to rebuke it, you need to get rid of it.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Because if you doubt God's forgiveness, you're also calling him a liar.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: So we need to be very careful when we do that.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm guilty, I've done that.
- 54:01SPEAKER_00: I thought, man, I'm not forgivable.
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: I'm like, God's not gonna forgive me this time.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: I'm not, you know, there's no way out of this, you know.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: And, you know, that's not who our God is.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: We we want to put God in a box and and label the box the way we think God is.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: This scripture right here tells us who God is.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: What are we believing?
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: The labels on the box that everyone has said or the enemy has said, or we have told ourselves, we we've even lied ourselves by lying to the fact as who we think God really could be or is.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: When we say, Well, I don't think God's gonna forgive me for this.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Don't say that.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: Don't ever say that.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: I I've said it.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: So I just want to encourage you not to do that.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Me, I'm just like, well, you know what?
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: God, you know, thank God God already knew what I was gonna do, but now I gotta go have a talk with the Father and have to ask him to forgive me because I was really foolish here, you know.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: And, you know, even if we've hurt someone or something, you know, detrimental has happened, you're still, you still can be forgiven.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: God does not want us to walk around in that shame.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: And if we do walk around in that shame, then we literally are making God, we're mocking God for doing that.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: Because we're saying that even though we ask to be forgiven, we don't believe in his forgiveness.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: So we gotta be careful in that in that.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: We gotta we gotta go, you know what?
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: God's gonna for God said he'd forgive me.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: And you when you go to God and you ask him to forgive you, you need to be, you need to want him to forgive you.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: You can't just say, Oh, God forgive me, and and not mean it.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: It's gotta be meaningful.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: And God knows your heart, he knows everything, he knows what you did, where you're at, and where you're going.
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: There's no escaping God if you think about it.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: It's just it's not gonna happen.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: So, like I tell my kids, and and this is something I share with my kids, it is hard as it is, but as easy as it is to lie, kids lie, you know, they they like because they don't want to get in trouble, so they lie.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: But then they're lying and they get caught in the lie.
- 56:25SPEAKER_00: And then then you ask them, well, why did you lie?
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: And they say, Well, because I didn't want to get in trouble, but now they're in bigger trouble because they lied, you know, they just brought on more trouble.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: And I I you know, I've explained it to my my my kids, you know, you know, why bring on double the trouble?
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: Just be just tell the truth.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: If if your parent is asking you something about something that they know that that you've done, if they're asking you about it, more than likely they know you've done it.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: When someone brings something straight to my attention, it's because they know I've done something.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: They've witnessed it, they saw it, they they they have they have the information they need to be able to call me out on it.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: More than likely.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: So if your kid is lying to you, I just try to encourage you to let them know that when you address them for something they've done wrong, it's because you already know they've done it.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: So they don't need to lie about it.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: And it's interesting because you know, some kids, some some kids will lie for an entire week and try to convince you that it didn't happen, you know, something really simple, or you know, um, who ate the cookie for the cookie?
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: Not me, not me, not me.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: And the crumbs are still all over her face or whatever his face.
- 57:43SPEAKER_00: You know, I'm just saying, you know, the proof is in the back.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: But we need to just be careful and we need to be mindful.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: But um, closing out with that today, I just we we most of all, we need to be cleansed of our sin.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: And I I do love that you brought the brought up the fact that it's all sin, every bit of it.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: So I encourage you, I know we've already talked about um, we really have talked deeply on prayer, but in your prayer life, I want to encourage you, if you're not already doing this, ask God to forgive you for the things that you don't know that you're doing.
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: And you know what's gonna happen when you do that is I I know God for myself, God has revealed to me when I started praying and asking God, God, you know, please even forgive me for the things I I don't I've done didn't realize I've done today.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: If I've done it, He'll bring it to your attention so you know what that sin is.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: He'll bring it to your attention.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: And then you can actually focus on the actual sin and you can pray about that as well.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Because there's it's it goes even deeper when you do that.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: When you we can we can ask God to forgive us all day long, which is important to ask God to forgive you.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Because we're gonna make mistakes.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: I'm you know, I mess up every day, and I'm thankful He's He's willing to forgive me.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: Because He doesn't have to, but He does.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: That's because He loves us.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: He sent His Sons to die for us because He loves us.
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: Why wouldn't He forgive us?
- 59:24SPEAKER_00: So, really, really good lesson, and I do believe that our you know when we continue on, this will be a continuation series because there's a lot to this.
- 59:33SPEAKER_00: Um understanding the why.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: Why do we need forgiveness?
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm glad that we started with that because it's important that we understand the why.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: So um great scripture, great lesson, lesson, excuse me.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: And um, if you guys have questions, if you're not sure, you could reach out to Bethany and myself.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: We always put the information in the show notes, always.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: Um, if you need prayer for anything, you can reach out, we'll pray for you.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: And um follow along with this series.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: If if you're still wanting to know more about forgiveness, we're gonna continue on with the next episode um talking more about it.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: This episode is it, you know, we wanted to um begin with you know, why is forgiveness necessary?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: No, who is God, and again, it started clear back at Genesis in the very beginning, like the word says.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: And so, um, and and I know it's been 2,000 plus years, whatever, since you know, Genesis, but you know what?
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_00: Um it's from beginning to end.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: He's the he's the beginning and the end, he's the he's the author and he's the author and finisher of our faith.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: So we need to keep that in mind, and we need to walk walk in forgiveness and and pray about it.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_00: Go to God and ask him.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_00: And again, if you're not sure, what you're if you really are not sure what your sin is, which I'm pretty sure that that in itself is not truthful, but you know, to some things.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_00: If you're not sure, ask God.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: Say, God, show me where do I need to work?
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: Where do I need to work in my life so that I'm not messing up all the time, so that I'm not sinning.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: Because it does break his heart when we do sin.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: We don't want to do that, and it breaks his heart when we don't accept his forgiveness as well.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_00: So we need to be very, very mindful of that.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: So, but anyhow, Bethany, thank you so much for today the scripture.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: Um, do you have anything you want to add before we close out?
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: No?
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_00: Okay, so if you guys aren't, you know, like I said, if you have any questions, reach out to Bethany and I.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: Um, we'll be happy to get um in touch with you and talk to you and pray with you, and follow along with us and make sure that you share um these episodes so that we can just continue to share the word of God with other people.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Um, the the scripture says to share the gospel, and um that's one of the reasons Bethany and I do this is because we want to be um obedient to the word of God.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: And so this is one of the one of the easiest ways to do that because it's all over the world.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: Our platform goes all over the world.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_00: So don't be afraid to share it, and don't be afraid to follow along and um send it to somebody that you that might be struggling with forgiveness.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: You know, it it's really helpful.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: So I just want to thank you guys all for being here.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: Um, thank you for listening.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: And Bethany, again, thank you for all the scripture, and you all have a great day, and you take care.
