- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an Unspoiled Network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes six fifty two through six fifty four.
- 0:15Speaker 1: The last and bloodiest Block Block D Battle begins, a
- 0:21Speaker 1: decisive battle Giola versus the Straw Hats and beautiful sword
- 0:26Speaker 1: Cavendish of the White Horse. In this episode, well, these
- 0:32Speaker 1: three episodes, we have the straw Hats continuing to fight
- 0:37Speaker 1: on the sunny and things turning into art and then
- 0:41Speaker 1: back out of art, and then turning back into art,
- 0:43Speaker 1: and then they stop being art. And it's just a
- 0:45Speaker 1: lot of back and forth. That's kind of what we've
- 0:49Speaker 1: got going on in these episodes in general, is a
- 0:52Speaker 1: lot of back and forth. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome
- 1:15Speaker 1: to the show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very
- 1:18Speaker 1: much to Florian for commissioning these episodes, and uh, welcome
- 1:23Speaker 1: to everybody. It's my first day doing my new schedule
- 1:27Speaker 1: where I start at two thirty instead of my old
- 1:30Speaker 1: time at four pm, and it's gonna take some getting
- 1:33Speaker 1: used to for sure. So we're all in this together, kids.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I think it'll ultimately be a good thing for me,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but definitely is like it feels strange to be starting
- 1:44Speaker 1: at this time of day. So yeah, these episodes, like overall,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I feel like not a lot happens, to be honest.
- 1:56Speaker 1: In these three we get a couple of reveals, but
- 2:00Speaker 1: they're fairly minor. The biggest one is do Flamingo's history.
- 2:06Speaker 1: We find out that originally he was also a noble,
- 2:11Speaker 1: so he's like essentially one of the big head one
- 2:17Speaker 1: percent hanchos, and I feel like that makes a lot
- 2:23Speaker 1: of sense, the fact that he actually is part of
- 2:26Speaker 1: their inner circle, really even though he like when I
- 2:31Speaker 1: say inner circle, it makes it sound like socially he is,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and clearly he has stepped away from that world socially,
- 2:40Speaker 1: so I don't it doesn't feel accurate to say that,
- 2:43Speaker 1: but that is his origin originally, And as we don't
- 2:48Speaker 1: really have a lot of info on like how current
- 2:52Speaker 1: his contact with them is and the way that they
- 2:56Speaker 1: see him, it's kind of hard to say because I
- 2:59Speaker 1: feel like he could be he could be a complete
- 3:04Speaker 1: rebel who's doing his utterly owned thing and that the
- 3:10Speaker 1: other people who are like of his family do not
- 3:13Speaker 1: see him as one of them at all, Or it
- 3:16Speaker 1: could be that he has positioned himself to be part
- 3:21Speaker 1: of both worlds for the advantage, you know, And I
- 3:26Speaker 1: feel like, based on the way that he is operating
- 3:29Speaker 1: right now, it seems like he is very much on
- 3:32Speaker 1: their side, really, and I'm assuming that the government knows this.
- 3:39Speaker 1: That's the only thing that can be difficult is what
- 3:43Speaker 1: everybody else is aware of. But I feel like the
- 3:49Speaker 1: Nobles seem to be They seem to be tied in
- 3:55Speaker 1: enough with the World Government's structure, and like they have
- 4:01Speaker 1: been for long enough that it's possible they do know.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And you know, even if they didn't, I don't know
- 4:13Speaker 1: how much it would matter, because it pretty much seems
- 4:17Speaker 1: like the World Government is in such a position that
- 4:22Speaker 1: it is like being run by these guys and there
- 4:25Speaker 1: wouldn't be any repercussions or pulling out of it anyway.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Like they're just part and parcel of the same group
- 4:32Speaker 1: of people. Right at this point, Is there really that
- 4:36Speaker 1: much difference between the World Government and the Nobles? I
- 4:41Speaker 1: feel like the kind of in my mind, I sort
- 4:45Speaker 1: of use them and these titles a little bit. I
- 4:49Speaker 1: wouldn't say interchangeably, but like when I imagine the position
- 4:55Speaker 1: in the hierarchy, I think of the nobles as being
- 4:59Speaker 1: above the government, and therefore the government is like their
- 5:03Speaker 1: tool entirely, and I don't think that's wholly inaccurate. I
- 5:10Speaker 1: feel like that's what the show has been telling us.
- 5:12Speaker 1: So all right, let's back up and begin at the
- 5:16Speaker 1: start of six point fifty two, we have Rebecca walking
- 5:23Speaker 1: out into the arena, and it's an interesting illustrative style
- 5:32Speaker 1: because the way that it's animated is like she is
- 5:38Speaker 1: walking out alone under a spotlight onto a stage. It's
- 5:42Speaker 1: that kind of vibe, and like she is struggling to
- 5:47Speaker 1: contain her emotional response to the way people are yelling
- 5:52Speaker 1: at her, and the people yelling are animated in really
- 5:57Speaker 1: stark black and red, which I don't know if this
- 6:02Speaker 1: is just like solely meant to illustrate the fact that
- 6:08Speaker 1: these people are angry and hateful, But I will tell
- 6:14Speaker 1: you guys that I sort of initially interpreted this color
- 6:21Speaker 1: scheme and how intensely this is drawn as an almost
- 6:27Speaker 1: representation of like a spell or something. And I'm trying
- 6:33Speaker 1: to think how exactly to say this, because what I
- 6:35Speaker 1: mean is that I have been very suspicious of everybody's memories,
- 6:43Speaker 1: right with this whole storyline relying so much on various
- 6:48Speaker 1: things seemingly being completely forgotten by people. It really has
- 6:52Speaker 1: seemed like memory is playing a massive role in what's
- 6:57Speaker 1: going on and how people are interpreting. So I think
- 7:03Speaker 1: that I am like my mind immediately sort of put
- 7:11Speaker 1: that together with this animation and the ferocity of the
- 7:17Speaker 1: vitriol coming from everybody, and I inadvertently like decided these
- 7:26Speaker 1: people aren't in control of themselves. They are being sort
- 7:31Speaker 1: of whipped up by some external force to be this
- 7:35Speaker 1: angry with her because somebody is like messing with their memories.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And I really I don't like to be perfectly real
- 7:46Speaker 1: with you guys. I feel like that makes some sense,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but I don't have any evidence for this. It just
- 7:55Speaker 1: seems like the people's minds are being messed with on
- 8:01Speaker 1: this island. And it's also I may be just a
- 8:05Speaker 1: little bit more sensitive to this right now, because like
- 8:09Speaker 1: I am in the midst of a reread of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: Dresden Files, and there is a lot in the Dresden
- 8:18Speaker 1: Files about mind magic and the being able to erase
- 8:26Speaker 1: a memory of something or influence somebody's actions by sort
- 8:31Speaker 1: of meaning into a tendency they already have, where it's
- 8:38Speaker 1: basically the idea is if you make somebody act totally
- 8:42Speaker 1: out of character. Not only will other people notice something
- 8:45Speaker 1: weird is going on, but the person themselves will mentally
- 8:49Speaker 1: struggle against this influence because they can tell that this
- 8:53Speaker 1: is out of character for themselves and that this is
- 8:56Speaker 1: not what they want to do, and that can cause
- 8:58Speaker 1: their minds to break. And if you're trying to infiltrate something,
- 9:01Speaker 1: their minds being broken is not conducive to you continuing
- 9:05Speaker 1: to influence people. So what you have to do is
- 9:08Speaker 1: find a sort of like middle ground of influencing them
- 9:13Speaker 1: but making sure that they don't do anything so dramatically
- 9:16Speaker 1: out of character that even they themselves aren't aware they
- 9:20Speaker 1: are being influenced. So if somebody is really judgmental, you
- 9:26Speaker 1: make them just a little bit more so. If somebody
- 9:29Speaker 1: is the type to really want to avoid confrontation and
- 9:32Speaker 1: keep the piece, you have them turn aside from things
- 9:37Speaker 1: a little bit more readily even than they normally would.
- 9:40Speaker 1: And it's obviously in that series the way that magic
- 9:48Speaker 1: works is like completely different from one piece in the
- 9:53Speaker 1: intricacy of it, and like the psychological repercussions of things. However,
- 10:01Speaker 1: it is more and more like relevant to the story
- 10:07Speaker 1: as time goes on. That mind magic is being used
- 10:11Speaker 1: on and by people or by other beings as well,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and that it's like it's a big no no that
- 10:17Speaker 1: in that universe because of the kinds of damage that
- 10:21Speaker 1: you can do. And I think that is just sort
- 10:24Speaker 1: of like in my head now that this is a possibility.
- 10:29Speaker 1: The mind magic is already kind of coming to the
- 10:32Speaker 1: fore with what's going on with Viola and Soanji and
- 10:35Speaker 1: finding out that she can read people's memories. So that's
- 10:41Speaker 1: like probably the start of me going down this path
- 10:46Speaker 1: and thinking this, and then, as I said, the whole
- 10:50Speaker 1: thing with people forgetting about this really impressive gladiator and
- 10:55Speaker 1: also apparently not remembering their loved ones who got turned
- 10:59Speaker 1: into toy. When those people turn back up again, it's
- 11:01Speaker 1: like they don't recognize them. So I feel like the
- 11:09Speaker 1: way that everybody hates her is part of the plan
- 11:17Speaker 1: to take to keep control on this island, because like
- 11:23Speaker 1: what I got the sense of from the small scene
- 11:28Speaker 1: where we see Do Flamingo after the conquest telling everybody
- 11:33Speaker 1: like they stole from you, they did this, and that
- 11:37Speaker 1: it felt like he was planting ideas in people's heads.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And I don't think necessarily that Do Flamingo is the
- 11:48Speaker 1: one with this power. It's possible, but it's not necessarily him.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But I could see that like wanting to keep people's
- 12:00Speaker 1: against her fresh as a means of making sure that
- 12:05Speaker 1: they don't like begin to remember how good to them
- 12:11Speaker 1: the other nobles used to be. And this is again,
- 12:15Speaker 1: I don't even necessarily believe that, like the people who
- 12:18Speaker 1: had been in power before Do Flamingo and his people
- 12:20Speaker 1: came along were better necessarily than Do Flamingo. It's it's
- 12:25Speaker 1: more that, like I'm sort of operating under this assumption
- 12:29Speaker 1: of if he came in, he would have to make
- 12:33Speaker 1: them sound way worse than they were. And I don't know,
- 12:37Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't like maybe he has planted some lies,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but the people that were ruling initially were kind of
- 12:45Speaker 1: terrible actually anyway, and it didn't take that much of
- 12:48Speaker 1: a push and prod or for all I know, this
- 12:54Speaker 1: whole thing is completely coming from a real place, And
- 12:58Speaker 1: everybody who is angry her they have not had their
- 13:01Speaker 1: heads messed with her. Grandfather was this terrible, and she
- 13:06Speaker 1: is like dealing with the fallout from his legacy. You know,
- 13:13Speaker 1: My tendency to run away with this being all a
- 13:16Speaker 1: big story is very linked with the other evidence of
- 13:20Speaker 1: people's heads being messed with. But I truly know nothing
- 13:26Speaker 1: about her family. The only information that I have is
- 13:31Speaker 1: about her mother and her relationship and the fact that
- 13:36Speaker 1: her mother apparently ran away from home, and I'm not
- 13:41Speaker 1: even sure if that's what was going on, but the
- 13:44Speaker 1: way that they were living away from everything, and they
- 13:49Speaker 1: were obviously like giving up on a life of luxury
- 13:57Speaker 1: in this little cabin with no servants, living with like
- 14:02Speaker 1: it seems as little as possible. And I'm not sure
- 14:05Speaker 1: how much of a connection they had to anybody around
- 14:13Speaker 1: them or their family, Like maybe her mother decided to
- 14:17Speaker 1: go off and live like this, but actually was still
- 14:20Speaker 1: in touch with her family and they were aware, like
- 14:22Speaker 1: they did have a guard that I feel like was
- 14:27Speaker 1: covering their back when they ran away. So I don't
- 14:31Speaker 1: know if this guy like left with them was assigned
- 14:33Speaker 1: to them by her family. There's just too many like
- 14:37Speaker 1: factors still floating in the air that I'm uncertain about,
- 14:41Speaker 1: and all of them just would have a huge influence
- 14:46Speaker 1: on what I think is going on with these people here.
- 14:51Speaker 1: But all this to say, these people are yelling at
- 14:54Speaker 1: her in some of the most over the top terms.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't mean this in a way that's like criticizing
- 15:03Speaker 1: the writing. Just to be clear, this is like if
- 15:07Speaker 1: a comment section came to life. You know, they're yelling
- 15:10Speaker 1: about how they hope that she dies and that it's painful,
- 15:14Speaker 1: I hope they burn your house down, whatever, like all
- 15:18Speaker 1: of these things that are just really really intense. And Rebecca,
- 15:24Speaker 1: you know, I complained about her last episode and the like,
- 15:28Speaker 1: not even her character exactly, but the way that it's
- 15:32Speaker 1: just frustrating how women are written so far. And I
- 15:36Speaker 1: will say, on the one hand, we do have one
- 15:40Speaker 1: other female warrior who is a gladiator, who is a
- 15:44Speaker 1: woman who she's basically built like a refrigerator and clearly
- 15:50Speaker 1: very very tough. So while I was lamenting the fact
- 15:53Speaker 1: that Rebecca is the only woman, she's not quite there's
- 15:58Speaker 1: one other. Granted it's about I think by this point
- 16:03Speaker 1: in this arc, we have met at least forty other
- 16:08Speaker 1: contenders in this contest, so two out of forty is
- 16:13Speaker 1: still really nothing like I pretty much stand by my criticism,
- 16:18Speaker 1: but I wanted to acknowledge that a woman appeared. However,
- 16:24Speaker 1: as much as that's a good thing that I can say,
- 16:28Speaker 1: gave me a little bit of a smile. The thing
- 16:31Speaker 1: that was kind of rode that over was how Rebecca's
- 16:39Speaker 1: reaction to the crowd hating her let me down because
- 16:44Speaker 1: Rebecca is like supposed to be a seasoned fighter at
- 16:53Speaker 1: this point, right, like that she has done this sort
- 16:55Speaker 1: of thing before. Am I wrong about this that she
- 17:00Speaker 1: has never has she been out there? Because there had
- 17:04Speaker 1: been a couple of like when she was telling the
- 17:06Speaker 1: story to Lufy and stuff, there were times where I
- 17:10Speaker 1: was unclear about the recent history of her, and so
- 17:14Speaker 1: it may be that she hasn't actually been in front
- 17:17Speaker 1: of a crowd, And if she hasn't, then again that
- 17:23Speaker 1: changes things. But I was just really disappointed to see
- 17:27Speaker 1: how everybody screaming at her was really really getting to her,
- 17:32Speaker 1: Like very clearly she is so upset by how people
- 17:38Speaker 1: are speaking and how mean they are being. And while
- 17:43Speaker 1: I can sympathize with that as a regular person who
- 17:47Speaker 1: I haven't been the target of this kind of like
- 17:50Speaker 1: mass vitriol, and I have no doubt that it would
- 17:52Speaker 1: be really difficult to bear. I really hoped that she
- 17:56Speaker 1: would be a little bit tougher than this, and even
- 18:01Speaker 1: her being like sad and crying about it would be
- 18:05Speaker 1: less frustrating than the fact that Cavendish has to swoop
- 18:10Speaker 1: in and yell at everybody to be nice to her.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And it's like, kind of I have very mixed feelings
- 18:19Speaker 1: on this, because part of me like the fact that
- 18:25Speaker 1: he is riding to her rescue, like literally white nighting her,
- 18:30Speaker 1: riding in on this horse. There's a part of me
- 18:35Speaker 1: that is very eye rolling about this. However, the story
- 18:41Speaker 1: beat where everybody seems to like him as a result
- 18:44Speaker 1: of him standing up for her in this way is
- 18:49Speaker 1: very funny because he's trying to make this point and
- 18:53Speaker 1: nobody wants to hear it, so he has to yell
- 18:57Speaker 1: at them more than once. And then even when they
- 19:02Speaker 1: start to cheer for him, one of the other men
- 19:05Speaker 1: who's fighting is like they see cavendish face kind of
- 19:09Speaker 1: drop and him look a little what's the word I want,
- 19:15Speaker 1: like nonplused for a moment, and their assumption is that
- 19:20Speaker 1: he is reacting to this negatively because he feels like
- 19:26Speaker 1: all they're doing is like falling all over me. But
- 19:28Speaker 1: they didn't actually absorb the point that I was trying
- 19:31Speaker 1: to make right And the thing is that this guy
- 19:36Speaker 1: totally misunderstands what's important to Cavendish, So he like Cavenish,
- 19:43Speaker 1: turns around and is like, oh my god, they love me.
- 19:46Speaker 1: This is amazing, and is so happy and this dude
- 19:50Speaker 1: is like, wait, that's how you feel about this? Are
- 19:53Speaker 1: you serious? And I knew immediately once people started cheering,
- 20:00Speaker 1: of course he is going to be so excited, like
- 20:03Speaker 1: this was actually a really good beat that he starts
- 20:07Speaker 1: to become like what's the word I want? He's like
- 20:12Speaker 1: being mollified by the way everybody is reacting to him,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and of course can't help but do the whole like
- 20:20Speaker 1: take that loofy kind of thing, you know. So I
- 20:28Speaker 1: regret that this story beat for him comes at the
- 20:34Speaker 1: expense of Rebecca herself getting to be a little bit
- 20:40Speaker 1: more Tough's that's like where the balance is sort of
- 20:44Speaker 1: held up for me. Is I want more for her
- 20:50Speaker 1: as a character, and we don't really get to see
- 20:53Speaker 1: her fight that much. It's like there's some but it
- 20:59Speaker 1: isn't as much of a focus as it is on
- 21:01Speaker 1: the other characters around her. Really, there's just a feeling
- 21:05Speaker 1: for me and I might be alone in this, but
- 21:08Speaker 1: it's like when it turns out that a bunch of
- 21:11Speaker 1: other people have been taken down. It just feels like
- 21:15Speaker 1: she had very little to do with it. It's like
- 21:18Speaker 1: it was sort of circumstantial that she's still standing in there,
- 21:21Speaker 1: not because of the way that it's animated and where
- 21:24Speaker 1: the focus goes and everything. So I just had a
- 21:27Speaker 1: difficult time with this and was feeling like, oh my god,
- 21:31Speaker 1: come on. You know, but this may have worked for
- 21:36Speaker 1: some of you listening, and you may not feel this
- 21:38Speaker 1: way at all. And I will admit that I am
- 21:42Speaker 1: so frustrated that I think it's probably going to color
- 21:45Speaker 1: my opinion of things in general. And so my reaction
- 21:50Speaker 1: to this and feeling annoyed and like this didn't really
- 21:53Speaker 1: seem like she was given a chance to fight. It
- 21:56Speaker 1: may be that it's not like an I'm clearly biased,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and I'll own that. So I just wanted to really
- 22:07Speaker 1: let you guys know that I am aware that my
- 22:09Speaker 1: feelings in this are probably, to a point a little unfair,
- 22:14Speaker 1: but I also feel like the way that this is written,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I'm not even going to apologize for being biased here
- 22:22Speaker 1: because I just think that the evidence has been borne
- 22:26Speaker 1: out by the show itself so much that I can't
- 22:31Speaker 1: be blamed for being biased in this way. You know,
- 22:37Speaker 1: so like you, guys, I'm looking at this right now,
- 22:42Speaker 1: like you know, her fighting and the way that this
- 22:45Speaker 1: is animated. We have Cavendish like standing up for her,
- 22:51Speaker 1: sitting on his horse. He sends the horse away. We
- 22:54Speaker 1: have him reacting to everybody cheering Rebecca coming up to
- 22:57Speaker 1: him and thanking him and him being like it's cool,
- 23:00Speaker 1: but also we're still rivals. And then we have a
- 23:04Speaker 1: bunch of people engaging in a fight and the gladiator
- 23:09Speaker 1: woman is really pounding some people, but we hear somebody
- 23:15Speaker 1: say like you're dead. Meet Rebecca, and she turns and
- 23:18Speaker 1: gets on guard, but doesn't actually take a strike or
- 23:22Speaker 1: go after anybody, and she just says something like I
- 23:26Speaker 1: won't lose soldier, and then the camera zooms in on
- 23:31Speaker 1: her face, so it's just her basically posing, but as
- 23:36Speaker 1: far as her jumping into the fight, we don't actually
- 23:41Speaker 1: see her fighting. And then when the scene ends and
- 23:45Speaker 1: we come back to the present and we join the
- 23:51Speaker 1: coliseum again, she is still just standing there with her
- 23:56Speaker 1: sword up and there has apparently been no fight since
- 24:00Speaker 1: the like the scene cut, so we have everybody gathering
- 24:05Speaker 1: around her and being like I say, we take her
- 24:08Speaker 1: out next, So there's a bunch of people like circling
- 24:12Speaker 1: her and all of them doing their usual like bad
- 24:17Speaker 1: guy monologue about how they will be seen as heroes
- 24:22Speaker 1: by the rest of the country if they manage to
- 24:25Speaker 1: take her down, because everybody hates her so much, so
- 24:28Speaker 1: they're coming toward her and they're saying this stuff. But yeah, see, okay,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I it is her being a seasoned fighter. So because
- 24:39Speaker 1: I'm we cut back to Loofy and he is watching
- 24:43Speaker 1: the fight with all of the prisoners and they're saying
- 24:47Speaker 1: everybody hates her, but she's used to it by now,
- 24:49Speaker 1: and then another guy says it's always her against a
- 24:52Speaker 1: bunch of big, tough guys. She's usually the only woman too.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So the fact that she gets teary eye and almost
- 25:00Speaker 1: starts crying, it's like, if you're gonna say in the
- 25:04Speaker 1: next scene, she's used to it by now, I don't
- 25:09Speaker 1: want her to cry, and I'm not trying to say
- 25:12Speaker 1: that she can't be upset, but I feel like she's
- 25:16Speaker 1: reacting like she's a little kid being bullied at school
- 25:20Speaker 1: and this is a woman who is out here to
- 25:23Speaker 1: draw blood, and that with her just being so teary
- 25:28Speaker 1: eyed over the people saying mean stuff to her. It's
- 25:33Speaker 1: very difficult for me to reconcile those things. And so
- 25:38Speaker 1: even when we're watching the fight from Lufy's perspective, it's
- 25:44Speaker 1: like more and more zoom in's on Rebecca's face. It's like,
- 25:48Speaker 1: that's what Lufy himself is seeing. It takes so long
- 25:52Speaker 1: for us to get to the fighting. And we've got
- 25:55Speaker 1: a bunch of these guys trying to go after her,
- 25:57Speaker 1: and one of them finally says you can attack to
- 26:00Speaker 1: you know, because she's just running away. They're trying to
- 26:03Speaker 1: strike at her, and she is continuously dodging, and what
- 26:06Speaker 1: she's doing is sort of luring them to the edge
- 26:10Speaker 1: so that she can get them to topple over and
- 26:12Speaker 1: wind up in the water, which is a really good tactic,
- 26:16Speaker 1: you know, but they are too stupid to understand that
- 26:19Speaker 1: that's what she's doing. And again, you guys, I am
- 26:26Speaker 1: totally fine with fighting smart. I enjoy the use of
- 26:32Speaker 1: the water in this way because I think a lot
- 26:34Speaker 1: of people would be playing it this way. You know.
- 26:38Speaker 1: This is having this distinct boundary is really helpful. But
- 26:45Speaker 1: this is just her lluring people and it's not actual fighting.
- 26:51Speaker 1: And so again I'm still feeling like I'm supposed to
- 26:54Speaker 1: believe that she has this like toughness to her, and
- 27:02Speaker 1: it's really hard for me to like buy it. And
- 27:07Speaker 1: when we go into the flashback, we see her talking
- 27:11Speaker 1: to the toy soldier saying, my mother told me I
- 27:17Speaker 1: shouldn't hurt others no matter what, which is supposed to
- 27:23Speaker 1: be the like, Oh, okay, so she's fighting, but she's
- 27:29Speaker 1: just keeping herself from being her and luring them into
- 27:32Speaker 1: the water but not actually engaging. Right, this is the
- 27:37Speaker 1: explanation as to how she's managing to like win but
- 27:41Speaker 1: not actually injure anybody in response, do you guys have
- 27:48Speaker 1: any idea how deeply disappointed I was by this plot choice.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I feel like anybody listening to the last episode who
- 27:59Speaker 1: knew knew that this was going to be coming shortly
- 28:02Speaker 1: had to be sort of holding their head, going, oh,
- 28:05Speaker 1: she is gonna hate this, because I already was so
- 28:09Speaker 1: frustrated with her characterization, and the one thing that was
- 28:15Speaker 1: like getting me through was sort of telling myself, well,
- 28:19Speaker 1: eventually I'll get to see her be an incredible badass
- 28:24Speaker 1: and then instead this is what we're getting her training
- 28:30Speaker 1: to fight. But as she's doing so insisting that she
- 28:33Speaker 1: shouldn't hurt anybody, and the person training her not disagreeing
- 28:38Speaker 1: with her at all, and then her actually in the
- 28:42Speaker 1: arena refusing to fight back and just defending herself, and
- 28:48Speaker 1: that's all. I am so disgusted, you guys. I'm so
- 28:53Speaker 1: disgusted and disappointed. Like, I don't want to be so
- 28:57Speaker 1: down on this, I really don't. I want you guys
- 29:01Speaker 1: to know that I have tried to talk myself out
- 29:03Speaker 1: of being as angry about it as I am a
- 29:05Speaker 1: couple of times, and it's not working. I am this
- 29:13Speaker 1: is so much worse than what I was even expecting.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And I'll tell you right now. If what happens is
- 29:21Speaker 1: that Lufy Like does wind up winning the flame Flame Fruit,
- 29:25Speaker 1: but then he just gives it to Rebecca, I will
- 29:29Speaker 1: never get over that. I will never forgive the writers
- 29:34Speaker 1: for doing this, and by the writers, I do mean Oda,
- 29:36Speaker 1: but also I don't know how different things are, you
- 29:40Speaker 1: know what I mean. I just want to be upfront
- 29:44Speaker 1: with you guys and say this is garbage. This is
- 29:50Speaker 1: so pathetic and it's just so insulting when there's like
- 29:56Speaker 1: it feels after this whole thing is sort of revealed
- 30:00Speaker 1: that they only added the other woman gladiator as a
- 30:03Speaker 1: means to be like, well, women can fight sometimes, and
- 30:06Speaker 1: to show that as like a foil against Rebecca. But
- 30:11Speaker 1: it's always seems to me that the women who are
- 30:17Speaker 1: able to be physical fighters are always drawn to be
- 30:23Speaker 1: really masculine. You know, there's this this female gladiator. She's,
- 30:30Speaker 1: like I said, she's built like a refrigerator. She's super tall,
- 30:33Speaker 1: she's got really wide shoulders and a wide jaw. She's
- 30:36Speaker 1: got a much like tougher, more masculine look to her
- 30:42Speaker 1: in a way that feels like what we're saying is
- 30:46Speaker 1: only women who are like of a certain body type
- 30:52Speaker 1: and look can be as tough as men. And if
- 30:58Speaker 1: you're too pretty then that doesn't you know what I'm saying.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I'm really opening myself up here and telling you guys
- 31:06Speaker 1: that I want to know. Am I just not remembering
- 31:11Speaker 1: a really badass fighter that was also super hot that
- 31:17Speaker 1: showed up at another point in the show, Because I
- 31:19Speaker 1: feel like every hot woman has had a power that
- 31:22Speaker 1: made it so that she really didn't have to fight
- 31:24Speaker 1: that much. They always had something that they could do
- 31:28Speaker 1: that sort of eliminated the need for it. That they
- 31:32Speaker 1: could make you super depressed with their ghosts, or like
- 31:35Speaker 1: Robin with all of her arms that come out and
- 31:37Speaker 1: just grab people and hold them down. Like Robin does
- 31:40Speaker 1: her power from the outside, way outside the lines of
- 31:43Speaker 1: the battle and watches and does things from afar. And
- 31:47Speaker 1: Nami's got her weather thing where she's not actually physically
- 31:51Speaker 1: fighting almost ever, she's invoking these weather changes and stuff.
- 31:56Speaker 1: And we've had some women who fight, they always tend
- 32:01Speaker 1: to have a look like BoA's sisters. For example, when
- 32:05Speaker 1: Lufy is finding them in that ring, her sisters are
- 32:09Speaker 1: both like four times the size of Boa, and it
- 32:13Speaker 1: just I don't feel like that's an accident. So I
- 32:18Speaker 1: don't know. Oh, Florian's here, Hi Florian, He says, Yeah,
- 32:21Speaker 1: Rebecca got it bad. She deserves better. She was the
- 32:23Speaker 1: one I was warning you about. It was not just
- 32:26Speaker 1: the outfit. There was so much potential. What makes it
- 32:28Speaker 1: worse one hundred percent? That's always if you have listened
- 32:32Speaker 1: to my show for a long time, you know, that's
- 32:34Speaker 1: the thing that I always get the most upset about.
- 32:36Speaker 1: It's like I can deal with stuff being bad because
- 32:40Speaker 1: it's bad, But when something is bad despite the fact
- 32:43Speaker 1: that there is a lot you could have done it's
- 32:46Speaker 1: so much worse. I hate getting excited about where something's
- 32:50Speaker 1: going and then all of the possibilities that I had
- 32:55Speaker 1: envisioned are never realized and it feels like it never
- 32:59Speaker 1: even heard to anybody. It's like, if we're gonna at
- 33:03Speaker 1: least address them and not do them, that may be frustrating,
- 33:06Speaker 1: but I'll also feel like at least the people writing
- 33:08Speaker 1: this have some understanding. But when it's like we don't
- 33:13Speaker 1: go down that road at all and it feels like
- 33:16Speaker 1: it didn't even occur to anybody, the insulting aspect of
- 33:19Speaker 1: that I can't overlook. So Florian is pointing out Hina
- 33:25Speaker 1: and Tashigi kind of both marines. Okay, Tashigi is fair.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Tashigi is fair. She definitely is in fights, and she's like,
- 33:33Speaker 1: her whole thing is that she's a swordswoman. We do
- 33:36Speaker 1: still have to undercut that with her needing her glasses
- 33:39Speaker 1: and losing her and that whole thing and whatever, But
- 33:43Speaker 1: I will give you that one. Heina, I don't really
- 33:46Speaker 1: remember her deal as well. We've only seen her like
- 33:49Speaker 1: a few brief times, and I liked her right away.
- 33:52Speaker 1: I feel like I remember kind of being into her
- 33:54Speaker 1: as a character. But she has had very little screen time. Really,
- 33:58Speaker 1: Miss Doublefinger Khalifa, I don't remember what she is from Dobblefinger?
- 34:08Speaker 1: What is that? That's like ringing a bell very faintly,
- 34:10Speaker 1: but I'm not remembering who this is. And I know
- 34:14Speaker 1: that this wasn't even that long ago, because Khalifa, I remember,
- 34:17Speaker 1: like how I remembered that name. Khalifa is CP nine, Okay,
- 34:24Speaker 1: I don't remember how how her fighting style went. Florian says,
- 34:31Speaker 1: but yeah, none one hundred percent fit what you mean,
- 34:34Speaker 1: I would say. And miss DF was partnered with mister one. Oh, okay,
- 34:42Speaker 1: so even if she was really fighting, it wasn't like
- 34:44Speaker 1: she was allowed to do it on her own. She
- 34:46Speaker 1: had a dude with her. I don't like, I don't
- 34:50Speaker 1: know what this is about. Part of me kind of
- 34:53Speaker 1: feels like and this I freely admit as I say
- 34:56Speaker 1: this that I might be giving a little bit too
- 34:59Speaker 1: much grace here. So this is certainly possible, but I
- 35:04Speaker 1: want to at least acknowledge it that there have been
- 35:09Speaker 1: sometimes where it's clear that either the person writing something
- 35:16Speaker 1: or the people in charge of producing something are all
- 35:20Speaker 1: really uncomfortable with a woman getting into a physical fight
- 35:24Speaker 1: against men. And they clearly back away from it because
- 35:30Speaker 1: they don't want the ugly like aesthetic of a man
- 35:36Speaker 1: beating the shit out of a woman. So there's a
- 35:40Speaker 1: lot of shying away from that because of the overall
- 35:45Speaker 1: implication of it. And I understand the instinct and I
- 35:52Speaker 1: don't like disagree with it depending on the the context
- 35:58Speaker 1: of it. But if you're setting a woman up to
- 36:02Speaker 1: be a gladiator, a literal gladiator who has been out
- 36:07Speaker 1: in the ring multiple times, it's really like frustrating, extra
- 36:15Speaker 1: frustrating to decide to go this way with it. And
- 36:18Speaker 1: it also kind of makes sense in terms of like
- 36:24Speaker 1: why the audience seems to hate her so much that
- 36:29Speaker 1: it's because not only is she a person related to
- 36:34Speaker 1: somebody that did them a great wrong allegedly, but the
- 36:39Speaker 1: fact that she is, I guess, not giving them a
- 36:41Speaker 1: good show. She's not fighting back and doing things in
- 36:45Speaker 1: such a way that like it's fun to watch her,
- 36:49Speaker 1: when at the very least, no, Instead, it's like we
- 36:53Speaker 1: get to just watch her lure these fucking dodo birds
- 36:57Speaker 1: into the pit of water over and over again, which
- 37:00Speaker 1: is just actually irritating to see this and how they
- 37:05Speaker 1: fall for it every time. So yeah, I uh, Florine
- 37:13Speaker 1: is saying, Yeah, mostly it's female versus female in one piece.
- 37:16Speaker 1: That's definitely like been something that I have noticed. And
- 37:19Speaker 1: that's what's so like, the the fact that there are
- 37:26Speaker 1: so few physical fighters in the women characters. If you
- 37:32Speaker 1: have so few, then when you have a female versus
- 37:37Speaker 1: female fight, by its very nature, it's going to end
- 37:41Speaker 1: up being a lot less physical because neither of them
- 37:45Speaker 1: has that kind of power, So when they like go
- 37:50Speaker 1: up against each other, they aren't going to attack in
- 37:54Speaker 1: that kind of way. So it's like, even when you
- 37:58Speaker 1: have female vers this female, the fight is still not
- 38:02Speaker 1: satisfying in some ways really because they're going they're so
- 38:07Speaker 1: indirect about it that it makes it a little bit
- 38:11Speaker 1: less fun to watch. And sometimes indirect ways of fighting
- 38:15Speaker 1: can be super entertaining, but when there's this undercurrent to
- 38:19Speaker 1: it of misogyny, it's really like I can't get past it,
- 38:26Speaker 1: you know. So I don't know if eventually there will
- 38:29Speaker 1: be a woman and this will be different, but I
- 38:34Speaker 1: think I'm sort of giving up on that and sort
- 38:37Speaker 1: of accepting at this point that this is just gonna
- 38:40Speaker 1: be how it is, and that is a bummer. But
- 38:46Speaker 1: you know, like I said, we are six hundred and
- 38:48Speaker 1: fifty episodes in, and I don't think that it's unreasonable
- 38:51Speaker 1: for me to give up on it by now. I
- 38:53Speaker 1: feel like a lot of people would have given up
- 38:55Speaker 1: on it long ago because of the evidence so far.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Are so all this to say that, like the whole
- 39:06Speaker 1: thing going on with Rebecca, If you guys thought that
- 39:09Speaker 1: I didn't give a shit about the Colisseum fights before,
- 39:13Speaker 1: just guess how little I give a shit currently, Because
- 39:18Speaker 1: it is I'm surprised they found a way for me
- 39:22Speaker 1: to care less. But they did, they really did. And
- 39:26Speaker 1: that's just like this, this Colosseum fight and tournament should
- 39:32Speaker 1: be so gripping, you know, it's it's Ace's flame, flame Fruit.
- 39:38Speaker 1: It's an insult to Loofy and to Ace's memory. It's
- 39:44Speaker 1: a trap for Lufy. It's the opportunity for us to
- 39:47Speaker 1: see some really cool powers and the creative ways that
- 39:52Speaker 1: you can implement them, and instead we're just getting one
- 39:57Speaker 1: roster after another of like fifteen people whose names I
- 40:02Speaker 1: will not remember, whose powers are sometimes a little interesting,
- 40:06Speaker 1: but you don't get to see them utilized very often
- 40:11Speaker 1: or for very long. And it just feels like again
- 40:16Speaker 1: with the potential. There was so much here that we
- 40:19Speaker 1: could have done. It didn't have to be like this.
- 40:23Speaker 1: So I'm just disappointed. I'm just deeply disappointed. So let's
- 40:31Speaker 1: go back over to the conversation between Do Flamingo and
- 40:39Speaker 1: law as Do Flamingo's like sharing his surprise info. Eight
- 40:43Speaker 1: hundred years ago, twenty kings from twenty countries met at
- 40:49Speaker 1: the center of the world. They formed an alliance and
- 40:53Speaker 1: became a single organization. Today we know it as the
- 40:57Speaker 1: World Government, and the kings who created the governing body
- 41:03Speaker 1: decided to move to the holy land of Marie Jois
- 41:06Speaker 1: and live there with their family. There was only one,
- 41:09Speaker 1: the Nefertari family of Alabasta, that refused to reside in
- 41:15Speaker 1: the capital. And I don't know if we were aware
- 41:19Speaker 1: that the Alabasta family was like part of the Celestial
- 41:24Speaker 1: Dragons like history, but that's interesting. The descendants of those
- 41:32Speaker 1: nineteen creators, still dwelling in the city, control nearly the
- 41:36Speaker 1: entire world and go by the title of Celestial Dragons. However,
- 41:41Speaker 1: we can't forget this agreement eight hundred years ago also
- 41:44Speaker 1: caused nineteen kingdoms to lose their royal families. Are you
- 41:49Speaker 1: following along? Out of necessity, the countries needed to select
- 41:54Speaker 1: new kings to govern and replace the missing rulers. For instance,
- 41:59Speaker 1: in the case of mine my native dress Rosa, the
- 42:02Speaker 1: Ricu family was selected to govern over the island, and
- 42:05Speaker 1: the old royalty royalty who chose to move to the
- 42:09Speaker 1: Holy Land all those years ago, the don Quixote family.
- 42:16Speaker 1: And this is when law is like, ah, the whole time,
- 42:23Speaker 1: you were one of them, and do Flamingo his fucking
- 42:27Speaker 1: like cackle here goes on for such a long time.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And so the fact that do Flamingo is okay, Florian
- 42:37Speaker 1: is in the chat and says, okay, I just need
- 42:40Speaker 1: to say this at this point, you are right, but
- 42:42Speaker 1: there will be better and even great times in the future. Promise.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I appreciate it, and I believe you, and I trust
- 42:50Speaker 1: your judgment. So I'm not like when I say I'm
- 42:54Speaker 1: giving up, I just mean that I am going to
- 42:57Speaker 1: let the storyline when they include like women, wash over
- 43:03Speaker 1: me a little bit more and stop trying to like
- 43:06Speaker 1: project my my predictions on where it could go, because
- 43:11Speaker 1: I feel like it's just kind of setting myself up
- 43:15Speaker 1: for disappointment. So I'm not like giving up on the
- 43:19Speaker 1: show or anything. I'm not trying to say I'm quitting
- 43:21Speaker 1: one piece, but I'm just saying that, like, I don't
- 43:24Speaker 1: want to spend my time theorizing about storylines that end
- 43:31Speaker 1: up being more fun than what we actually get because
- 43:35Speaker 1: it just depresses me, you know. So I'm just giving
- 43:41Speaker 1: up on that part of the way that I cover stuff.
- 43:45Speaker 1: So all right, let's steal. Let's steal with this art
- 43:51Speaker 1: art fruit lady. What is her name? Again? I keep
- 43:54Speaker 1: forgetting it. She has like even more dramatically chained the
- 44:01Speaker 1: ship and the ocean and the straw hats. It's such
- 44:07Speaker 1: a weird like the animation has the ship sort of
- 44:13Speaker 1: rolling along on this cloud that's moving a little bit
- 44:19Speaker 1: like water but not really. And then like around that
- 44:23Speaker 1: is a rainbow that is tied in a bow kind
- 44:27Speaker 1: of around the ship, but like huge, not tied tightly
- 44:31Speaker 1: around it, but like there's a rainbow making an archway
- 44:35Speaker 1: over it. And then there's a sort of like bow
- 44:37Speaker 1: in the front made of rainbow, and the rainbow also
- 44:41Speaker 1: has musical notes on it. And so this is the
- 44:45Speaker 1: first hint that we get about the fact that Brooke
- 44:48Speaker 1: has apparently thrown in with this crazy woman, and you know,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I had no doubt, not for a moment, that Brooke
- 45:00Speaker 1: was going to turn around and stab her in the back.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Of course, that's what he's doing. And it's funny to
- 45:06Speaker 1: me that they all are just like Brooke, why are
- 45:08Speaker 1: you saying this stuff? Why are you acting like this?
- 45:11Speaker 1: I'm like, guys, come on, Clearly, bro is like just
- 45:16Speaker 1: preparing to strike at any moment. Just give him a second,
- 45:20Speaker 1: It's okay. And the further changes that have been made
- 45:27Speaker 1: to like Gnammy and Chopper, they are made even more
- 45:31Speaker 1: angular than they were. Oh and the little samurai kid
- 45:36Speaker 1: whose name I also don't remember, but they look even
- 45:40Speaker 1: weirder than they did before. And as the scene goes on,
- 45:46Speaker 1: it's like they are being flattened into two dimensions, kind
- 45:52Speaker 1: of like they are basically on the verge of death
- 45:57Speaker 1: because they can't breathe at a certain point. And it
- 46:02Speaker 1: is really like freaky to consider that this wasn't the
- 46:11Speaker 1: way that like this character played it initially, is what
- 46:13Speaker 1: I'm saying. She initially plays as like, Oh, I just
- 46:16Speaker 1: made you look crazy, and by doing that, I have
- 46:19Speaker 1: changed up some things so that you're like, your weapons
- 46:22Speaker 1: don't work the same way, like certain things are no
- 46:25Speaker 1: longer functioning, but it never seemed like she was affecting
- 46:31Speaker 1: living beings the same way, and so seeing the fact
- 46:36Speaker 1: that they all begin to reach a point where they
- 46:38Speaker 1: can't breathe, I was like, oh, okay, so she's doing
- 46:43Speaker 1: even more to them than I was understanding. And Brooke
- 46:47Speaker 1: throughout all of this, he is fully pretending to be
- 46:53Speaker 1: on board with their enemy and saying the fact that
- 46:56Speaker 1: he is like reawakened his artistic side and that creation
- 47:03Speaker 1: is his only reason for living is the way he
- 47:06Speaker 1: says this at one point, So he is definitely like
- 47:10Speaker 1: playing up the fact that he is a musician and
- 47:16Speaker 1: that she and he are in this together. And it's
- 47:20Speaker 1: so funny because I like the fact that she believes this,
- 47:25Speaker 1: But to be honest, I feel like, and this is
- 47:29Speaker 1: just a complete shot in the dark, But I feel
- 47:35Speaker 1: like it's easier to believe if you are a bad
- 47:39Speaker 1: guy that the skeleton will betray his own crew because
- 47:44Speaker 1: the skeleton isn't fully alive and seems like an outlier
- 47:49Speaker 1: in general, and there's just a sense of like, maybe
- 47:52Speaker 1: he just doesn't have the same like moral obligations or
- 47:58Speaker 1: ideas that people who are fully alive do. You know,
- 48:02Speaker 1: like I could see just assuming that the way that
- 48:06Speaker 1: Brooke moves through the world is a little bit different,
- 48:10Speaker 1: and that yeah, he got overcome by her because his
- 48:14Speaker 1: artistic side just totally overtook him. And I feel like I,
- 48:22Speaker 1: as much as her like believing him is a little
- 48:25Speaker 1: bit silly. There's a part of me that kind of
- 48:28Speaker 1: gets why she would, because there's almost something to Brooks,
- 48:32Speaker 1: like vibe and personality that can sometimes feel like he
- 48:37Speaker 1: is just a muse, you know, like he's some other
- 48:41Speaker 1: worldly creature that has music as a part of what
- 48:46Speaker 1: drives him to such a deep extent, and considering like
- 48:50Speaker 1: the powers that he has developed in connection with his music,
- 48:53Speaker 1: that's not even that far off. Like I the fruit
- 49:02Speaker 1: that he ate is supposed to solely be responsible for
- 49:07Speaker 1: him still being alive despite being a skeleton, but the
- 49:17Speaker 1: the powers that he has displayed are a lot more
- 49:24Speaker 1: intense than It's sort of a difficult thing that I've
- 49:29Speaker 1: run into before, and I'm just sort of rolling with
- 49:33Speaker 1: and so I'm not trying to bring this up to
- 49:35Speaker 1: be pedantic or anything. But for example, Sanji hasn't ever
- 49:41Speaker 1: eaten a devil fruit, and yet he has developed abilities
- 49:47Speaker 1: that now let him literally like fly or his leg
- 49:52Speaker 1: bursts into flames when he kicks somebody in anger, you know, like,
- 49:57Speaker 1: and this is not due to him having a power
- 50:02Speaker 1: through consuming a fruit. It is that he has like
- 50:06Speaker 1: developed skills with so much hard work that they have
- 50:10Speaker 1: now reached a supernatural level. And that's essentially also what's
- 50:15Speaker 1: going on with Zoro. Zoro has just become an incredibly
- 50:20Speaker 1: bonkers level swordsman, but not through any real supernatural means,
- 50:27Speaker 1: so that seems to be Also what Brooke has done
- 50:31Speaker 1: is that he is using his music to like do magic,
- 50:35Speaker 1: and that he has gotten so good at his music
- 50:38Speaker 1: that he's able to pull that off. And it's not
- 50:41Speaker 1: really this is not that much of a surprise to
- 50:46Speaker 1: anybody that he is able to do this, and by anybody,
- 50:48Speaker 1: I mean like other members of his crew. Obviously he
- 50:51Speaker 1: definitely gets to drop on people in fights because they
- 50:54Speaker 1: are not aware that he can do this. But it's
- 51:00Speaker 1: just the nature of how powers work in this universe
- 51:05Speaker 1: is kind of fluid, because I will often think to
- 51:10Speaker 1: myself that you don't need a superpower, or that you
- 51:13Speaker 1: that you need a devil fruit to do a superpower.
- 51:16Speaker 1: But like I've been shown over and over again that
- 51:19Speaker 1: that's not true, and like the CP nine guys were
- 51:25Speaker 1: able to do shave and all of these other like
- 51:29Speaker 1: weird techniques and moves that were beyond what mortals should
- 51:34Speaker 1: be able to pull off, and they weren't given devil
- 51:37Speaker 1: fruits to eat until much later on in the story.
- 51:41Speaker 1: So it's just sort of interesting to me the way
- 51:45Speaker 1: that that can develop. And I really hold that as
- 51:48Speaker 1: a separate thing from like what's going on with Oosap
- 51:53Speaker 1: and Nami, because the two of them don't really have
- 51:58Speaker 1: powers of any kind that are inherent to their body.
- 52:04Speaker 1: They have to have props in order to be able
- 52:09Speaker 1: to do anything. And it may be that I am
- 52:13Speaker 1: not correct and I just haven't seen it yet. It
- 52:16Speaker 1: may be that that will eventually change and they'll be
- 52:18Speaker 1: able to do things without having props, but they this
- 52:23Speaker 1: is part of why I think of them as being
- 52:25Speaker 1: like the most vulnerable of anybody, even more so than Chopper,
- 52:29Speaker 1: who at least can transform into a giant, burly version
- 52:34Speaker 1: of himself. But the transformations for Chopper, I guess are
- 52:39Speaker 1: from rumble balls, right, So like, maybe this is unfair
- 52:43Speaker 1: because he is only able to do it with props.
- 52:46Speaker 1: As well. I actually don't remember if it's if he
- 52:50Speaker 1: can only transform using rumble balls or if he has
- 52:54Speaker 1: learned how to do it without them. By now I
- 52:56Speaker 1: can't recall anyway. Okay, So, like I said, eventually Brook
- 53:03Speaker 1: stabs her in the back. The ship seems to sort
- 53:06Speaker 1: of like all of it seems to right itself for
- 53:10Speaker 1: a little while, and they are there's a feeling at
- 53:18Speaker 1: first of the like Okay, we're back to normal and
- 53:21Speaker 1: we can get on track again. But they very quickly
- 53:26Speaker 1: wind up. This woman wakes up. They don't want to
- 53:31Speaker 1: toss her over the side because she'll drown, and I
- 53:36Speaker 1: just I'm really curious how you guys feel about the
- 53:43Speaker 1: fact that killing an enemy doesn't seem to be something
- 53:50Speaker 1: they are willing to do. Here, I can't decide how
- 53:54Speaker 1: I feel, because like, on the one hand, this lady
- 53:57Speaker 1: wasn't killing them, she was transforming them. On the other hand,
- 54:01Speaker 1: they were dying of suffocation because of the transformation, and
- 54:04Speaker 1: she did not seem to care. And so the fact
- 54:08Speaker 1: that they were like, well, we can't just drop her
- 54:10Speaker 1: over the side, I had a really strong kind of
- 54:14Speaker 1: like why not reaction to this, And I'm curious about
- 54:22Speaker 1: like if anybody else also stopped and went, I would
- 54:26Speaker 1: think this is the perfect opportunity for you to drop
- 54:29Speaker 1: her over the side and not deal with her anymore.
- 54:32Speaker 1: And so when she wakes up and starts causing trouble again,
- 54:34Speaker 1: it's really like, well, clearly, like what did you expect?
- 54:38Speaker 1: You know? Ooh sorry, Florian says. It has been said
- 54:44Speaker 1: more than one time that Nami can kind of predict
- 54:46Speaker 1: the weather, even in the Grand line where that's not
- 54:48Speaker 1: really possible, and it is, and that is her body
- 54:53Speaker 1: so just so attuned to the weather. It seems okay, God,
- 54:59Speaker 1: it's just like you're right. But also in comparison to
- 55:03Speaker 1: like what everybody else I just listed is able to do,
- 55:07Speaker 1: that is so incredibly weak sauce that it's hard for
- 55:09Speaker 1: me to even take it seriously as like in answer,
- 55:14Speaker 1: like it's an important tool, you know, and so I
- 55:20Speaker 1: don't want to completely discount it. But just like Soanji
- 55:25Speaker 1: can slice a whole ship in half, Soanji can fly,
- 55:29Speaker 1: and she can predict the weather pretty well, like it's
- 55:34Speaker 1: just it's just so that's not helpful in a battle anyway,
- 55:42Speaker 1: but fair I will give you that. So let's see,
- 55:49Speaker 1: I'm trying to make sure because like I spent so
- 55:51Speaker 1: much time talking about like the first couple of things.
- 55:54Speaker 1: There's a guy named Gladyus that we eventually meet, who
- 55:57Speaker 1: is talking with Baby five, and he is super upset
- 56:01Speaker 1: about the fact that Violet betrayed them and glad he
- 56:04Speaker 1: This look like changes over the course of this conversation
- 56:07Speaker 1: because his head starts to sort of like expand as
- 56:11Speaker 1: he's getting more and more agitated, and eventually his hair
- 56:15Speaker 1: pops out from underneath this like hood he was wearing,
- 56:19Speaker 1: and he's got this incredibly cool looking This guy has
- 56:25Speaker 1: I think the dopest esthetic of anybody on the show
- 56:29Speaker 1: so far. And I believe the reason that I feel
- 56:33Speaker 1: this way is because he looks like he has just
- 56:36Speaker 1: stepped out of Fury Road. You know. There's just because
- 56:40Speaker 1: he's got so much like metal and gromets, and there's
- 56:44Speaker 1: like he has a couple of he's got like goggles
- 56:48Speaker 1: on and this mask that completely covers the bottom half
- 56:52Speaker 1: of his face. When his hair pops out, it's these
- 56:56Speaker 1: really awesome, like blue white spikes that stand up like
- 57:01Speaker 1: three feet from the back of his head. It's just
- 57:05Speaker 1: he looks really, really awesome, and I hope that he
- 57:10Speaker 1: becomes something, because I want him around just for the
- 57:14Speaker 1: dope look he's got. So then we have Sanji has
- 57:21Speaker 1: decided that he is going to go and help the
- 57:24Speaker 1: straw Hats, and so even though he and Violet have
- 57:29Speaker 1: like the uh information to go to the House of Toys,
- 57:36Speaker 1: he hands that off to the Samurai and he is
- 57:39Speaker 1: heading back to the ship, and as they're going, Violet
- 57:44Speaker 1: is using her power of clairvoyance where she can, like
- 57:47Speaker 1: she says, it stretches for twenty five hundred was it
- 57:53Speaker 1: miles or feet? I'm trying to see the moment where
- 57:58Speaker 1: she's like, let's see, you're not supposed to be riding
- 58:04Speaker 1: this steed with me. I told you to wait back
- 58:06Speaker 1: at the harbor, you naughty girl, She says, I would,
- 58:10Speaker 1: but it's crawling with marines. This this horse by the way,
- 58:15Speaker 1: you guys, it's a toy horse and it looks insane.
- 58:20Speaker 1: But yeah, she says, I count four battleships told total.
- 58:23Speaker 1: That means there are at least three thousand marines scattered
- 58:26Speaker 1: across the city as we speak. And he's like, how
- 58:30Speaker 1: did you find that out in such a short time,
- 58:33Speaker 1: And she explains about the clairvoyants twenty five hundred miles.
- 58:36Speaker 1: That is a crazy power twenty one hundred that's a
- 58:39Speaker 1: lot like damn allows me to survey the land from
- 58:44Speaker 1: a point of view like a bird in flight. And
- 58:47Speaker 1: so he's asking about the ship, and for a minute,
- 58:50Speaker 1: she can't even see it, which is apparently Ogiola is
- 58:54Speaker 1: the name of the art art fruit Lady. But she
- 58:59Speaker 1: apparently her power like hides it and eventually the ship
- 59:05Speaker 1: snaps back into view. But she tells Soangy, she not
- 59:11Speaker 1: Giola's she being Violet tells him it's just been struck
- 59:16Speaker 1: by lightning. And I love the fact that, like anybody
- 59:19Speaker 1: else would be like, oh shit, but he understands what
- 59:22Speaker 1: Nami's abilities are and it's just like, oh okay. So
- 59:25Speaker 1: that means that like Nami is still alive. That's something.
- 59:29Speaker 1: And as this like fight goes back and forth, Goola
- 59:35Speaker 1: she does this power that's called like Heaven's Door art
- 59:43Speaker 1: and it transforms her into this giant being with like
- 59:47Speaker 1: all of these arms. And I'll tell you what, guys,
- 59:51Speaker 1: the Heaven's Door. It was very tough for me to
- 59:55Speaker 1: not think of the Heaven's Gate cult that wind up
- 59:58Speaker 1: doing that like mass a side twenty years ago or something.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: It was every time she mentioned it, because she says
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Heaven's door a couple of times, I was just like, ooh,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I know that this is not at all, like it's
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: not your fault that those things have been conflated in
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: my head, but I can't help it. And all of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: these arms that she is like created, Brooke just chops off.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: And it's really not a big deal in terms of
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: how impressive the power looks initially compared to like how
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: ineffective it winds up being. But it's it's certainly very showy,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: and she's an artist, so I guess that makes sense.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: So last episode, like I already kind of talked about
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: how we meet a bunch more people that are in
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: the Colosseum, the other major thing that happens, because it's
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: a lot more of like Rebecca goes non fighting and
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Louviy watching her and lots of boob shots. But eventually
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: we get the green bit section where Law and Dol
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: Flamingo are continuing to fight and Law had been being
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: held down. It's the way that the power works from
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: the blind Admiral I forgot his name as well, is
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: so interesting to me, but he is. He's talking to Law,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: and Law is saying something about like he eventually gets
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: a hold of what he thinks is Caesar's heart, and
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Law says something like, you know, are you so sure
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that that's his heart actually, and Dol Flamingo squeezes it
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: just to see, and as soon as he squeezes it,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Caesar freaks out. And I thought he was freaking out
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: because it was his heart and that he was reacting
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: to the pain, but it turns out that it's like
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: a preemptive reaction. He is wincing in anticipation of the
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: pain that hasn't that doesn't wind up showing up at all.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: So we see that that heart is actually one of
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: the admirals men. So he gets pretty pissed off at
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: realizing that one of his guys has had his heart removed.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I loved that all the other men around him are like, hey, dude,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: are you okay? They're like really worried for him, and
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Do Flamingo is trying to distract or No Laws trying
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: to distract Do Flamingo from noticing the ship that's heading
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: towards Green Bit, but unfortunately they are attacked by fighting
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: fish and so they are screaming and yelling in response,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: and they draw all of this attention and Do Flamingo
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: turns and spots them, and he's like, oh, I see
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: what you were doing, and is like, all right, well,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna go deal with this, and so he turns
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: and flies off, as Law tries to be like, no, no, no,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: this doesn't have anything to do with them, and the
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: end of the episode is him like heading for them,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and the fighting fish seeing Do Flamingo and immediately being
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: like oh shit, and running if fish can run, swimming
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: away and all like the whole crew being like why
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: did the fish just leave? And then poor Chopper sees
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: him and is like, oh no, and we have Giola
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: being like, oh, the Master's coming. Nice finally, like I
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: don't have to worry about this anymore. And his last
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: thing that he says is I hope you're watching Law,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: because I'm about to eviscerate your pathetic little companions right
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: before your eyes. And that is the end of the episode,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: So we'll have to see what happens here. She's yelling
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: I forgot that. Sanji like swoops in right here, but
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: we don't actually see the fight. He just says, you
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: made my crewmates cry and you're going down. So we're
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: gonna get to see Sanji and his like superpowered non
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: devil fruit eating self versus a devil fruit eater and
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: somebody who was allegedly really really powerful but whose powers
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I don't have a great grip on you. I still
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: don't quite understand. So I'll be very excited to see
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: how this goes. Definitely more invested in that fight than
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: the tournament. All Right, guys, thank you again so much
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: for listening. I'm sorry I've been so down on these
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: past couple of recordings, but it is what it is,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: and it's going to happen sometimes. And thank you to
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Florian for commissioning this. Until next time to the Loo motherfuckers.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled network
