Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Great the flick with Beno.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Sha, Well, that's a big one today, while since we've
- 0:07Speaker 2: had an epic of three hour proportions.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, this is almost literally bigger than Ben Herr.
- 0:14Speaker 1: You can actually say it, and it's it's correct. It's
- 0:16Speaker 1: you know, sort of this historical epic. Well it's technically
- 0:19Speaker 1: not history. It's based on Homer's three thousand year old poem,
- 0:22Speaker 1: which was a work of fiction. Christopher Nolan's new movie,
- 0:25Speaker 1: The Odyssey. Now, there are a lot of Christopher Nolan
- 0:28Speaker 1: nuts out there. People have been so pumped for this
- 0:31Speaker 1: movie and it's you know, shot in seventy mili imax,
- 0:36Speaker 1: the first film ever to be shot entirely on this
- 0:38Speaker 1: premium large format, so it looks incredible. It's people are saying,
- 0:43Speaker 1: this is the movie that's going to save the cinema
- 0:45Speaker 1: industry because it's going to bring everybody back to the movies.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You have to see it on the biggest screen you can.
- 0:50Speaker 2: All that kind of three thousand year old poem called
- 0:52Speaker 2: The Odyssey is the one that's going to save cinema.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I know it really is true. Hollywood has no new
- 0:57Speaker 1: ideas now. But there's some pre release controversy that of
- 1:02Speaker 1: course you talked about on the Shore Report the casting
- 1:05Speaker 1: of Lapiter and Jongo, a black actor as Helen of Troy.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That's a non issue. In the film, she's fantastic, tiny, tiny,
- 1:12Speaker 1: little role, but she's she's great. There was also some
- 1:15Speaker 1: issues about some modern language, like Tom Holland calling instead
- 1:20Speaker 1: of saying father, he says dad, which is you know,
- 1:23Speaker 1: that's a bit of a minor thing. And the other
- 1:26Speaker 1: the funniest of all the controversies was some people pointed
- 1:30Speaker 1: out on the Internet that in the trailer the King Agamemnon,
- 1:34Speaker 1: the King of the Greeks in the War of Troy,
- 1:36Speaker 1: his battle armor does look a little bit like Batman,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and that one is actually legit. It does look exactly
- 1:44Speaker 1: like Batman. Chris Black Christopher Nolan's had to come out
- 1:50Speaker 1: and justify now it's totally totally, you know, authentic to
- 1:54Speaker 1: the period. It's like, I don't know, bro, that does
- 1:56Speaker 1: look a lot like Batman. And so it stars madd
- 2:00Speaker 1: as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca. Like a lot of
- 2:03Speaker 1: people I'm sure haven't read the poem, but they'd be
- 2:05Speaker 1: familiar with the tale.
- 2:07Speaker 2: I remember it from school.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So it's a twelve thousand line poem, and depending on
- 2:12Speaker 1: the translation, he gets not the easiest, let's be honest,
- 2:16Speaker 1: But basically, Odysseus was the dude who went to the
- 2:19Speaker 1: siege of Troy. He came up with the Trojan horse idea,
- 2:23Speaker 1: hid inside the Trojan horse with the other Greeks, went
- 2:26Speaker 1: inside the walls of Troy, came out, slaughtered everybody, and
- 2:29Speaker 1: then because of that trickery, he got punished by the gods,
- 2:32Speaker 1: and he wasn't just allowed to go home. It's probably
- 2:34Speaker 1: a couple of months little cruise across the Aegean. He
- 2:38Speaker 1: was on this wild journey that took him years to
- 2:41Speaker 1: get home. He took seven years to get home, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: along the way he and his men encountered all sorts
- 2:47Speaker 1: of trials and tribulations. There was a cyclops yea, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: they had to disguise themselves as sheep after they blinded
- 2:53Speaker 1: the bloke. There was the witch Circe, who turned his
- 2:57Speaker 1: men into pigs. Calypso, this sort of seductive nymph who
- 3:03Speaker 1: so in the actual original, like Odysseus is hooking up
- 3:07Speaker 1: with these people. He hooked up with Circe. He hooked
- 3:09Speaker 1: up with Calypso. In the movie. That doesn't happen at
- 3:12Speaker 1: a different time. It doesn't even happen in the movie
- 3:14Speaker 1: at all. I think Nolan's made some choices to make
- 3:17Speaker 1: Matt Damon's character just a better bloke, just a he
- 3:20Speaker 1: also in the in the poem, Odysseus also just like
- 3:23Speaker 1: orders the killing of twelve maids just because he doesn't
- 3:25Speaker 1: like them, right, And that doesn't happen in the movie.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So it's an adaptation of a three year So they've
- 3:31Speaker 1: made some Hollywood choices. Yeah, but I didn't muck around
- 3:36Speaker 1: with the myths. No, no, no, back back in those days.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Very serious. And so you've got Anne Hathaway playing Odysseus's
- 3:42Speaker 1: wife Penelope. This is the best thing and Hathaway's ever done.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Like She's only in it for probably fifteen percent of
- 3:48Speaker 1: the movie, but my goodness, such a good performance. She
- 3:51Speaker 1: is going to get a nomination for Best Actress at
- 3:53Speaker 1: the Academy Awards. This film, this film will get an
- 3:56Speaker 1: Oscar nomination for Best Picture.
- 3:58Speaker 2: This music will plutch you. After the speech, it left
- 4:01Speaker 2: me a bit cold.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I was a bit disappointed. Oh really, yes, all right,
- 4:04Speaker 1: amazing technical achievement. It didn't make me feel one emotion. Well,
- 4:09Speaker 1: how many faces that launched a thousand ships, giving it
- 4:16Speaker 1: three and a half, which is about how many hours
- 4:20Speaker 1: it goes. And anybody else made this movie, it'd be
- 4:22Speaker 1: the best movie of their career. I wouldn't even put
- 4:24Speaker 1: this in my top five Christopher Nolan films.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Wow, even number six. Okay, it's website. It's three hours long.
- 4:29Speaker 2: So get the big popcorn and the big coke, go.
- 4:31Speaker 1: See the Imax. Then you'll be making a big trip
- 4:34Speaker 1: to the sit on the aisle.
- 4:35Speaker 2: They need intermission on this, they do, Hey Ben, thank
- 4:38Speaker 2: you very much.
