Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: My name is Chaz. I play drums in Justice for
- 0:05Speaker 1: the Damned and yeah.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome, no anytime.
- 0:12Speaker 3: First of I'm so glad you're intermission and now back
- 0:14Speaker 3: with the band.
- 0:15Speaker 2: How are you? And how does it feel to be back?
- 0:18Speaker 1: Oh, it's just surreal, to be honest, It's like it's
- 0:23Speaker 1: just a total blur. It's happened so fast, for one,
- 0:26Speaker 1: but the other thing is just I cannot believe just
- 0:29Speaker 1: like how awesome it is. Really. It's just all happened
- 0:34Speaker 1: in a space of maybe I don't know, four months
- 0:35Speaker 1: and just putting out new music and all this touring
- 0:37Speaker 1: to do, and it's yeah, I just have zero words.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It was too yeah, too soon ago that I was
- 0:44Speaker 1: just like tossing up if this was all going to
- 0:46Speaker 1: happen at all, you know what I mean, if it
- 0:48Speaker 1: was just Yeah, I don't know. It's such a blurt,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but I'm stoked at it's just yeah, like a long
- 0:55Speaker 1: time coming too, you know, especially ask for music, which
- 1:00Speaker 1: really had to put something out. So that's just been
- 1:02Speaker 1: such relief, A big time.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely. It must be so nice to get back
- 1:06Speaker 2: into it and do what you.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Love, oh, big time yeah, And like the shows I've
- 1:11Speaker 1: been able to play so far as well. Just I
- 1:14Speaker 1: don't know, I really can't tell if they just heaps
- 1:18Speaker 1: better or it's just it just feels like it it's
- 1:20Speaker 1: probably a bit of both, and like, yeah, it just
- 1:22Speaker 1: feels insane, like I almost don't even know like how
- 1:26Speaker 1: to handle it. And just I'm right in the way
- 1:30Speaker 1: that it's awesome. That's going to get even better, Like
- 1:33Speaker 1: especially the tours we've got coming, it's just going to
- 1:35Speaker 1: be a sick time.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's it.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And with the announcement of your headline Australian tour this March,
- 1:41Speaker 3: how are you feeling about returning to perform here back
- 1:44Speaker 3: in your home country.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's easily the best, Like, and what we've
- 1:49Speaker 1: got coming is literally just covering all the bases. Like
- 1:51Speaker 1: we've just literally just got this headliner that we'll just
- 1:54Speaker 1: cover all the main sort of cities and then we're
- 1:57Speaker 1: doing the biggest regional tour imaginable to be honest, Like
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's probably even bigger than I imagined. Like it's just an
- 2:03Speaker 1: absolute dream and it's going to feel pretty much anything
- 2:07Speaker 1: else I can think of here, which is just crazy
- 2:09Speaker 1: because like after that, who cares what happens is just
- 2:13Speaker 1: up from there, you know what I mean, I just
- 2:16Speaker 1: I just think it's the perfect thing, you know, for
- 2:18Speaker 1: me anyway personally, to just come back after so long
- 2:20Speaker 1: and to be able to do that instead of you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: obviously just going straight over season be crazy too, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: you know, I definitely am thinking I'm thinking them, you know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I'm just the way it's gone as perfect, like especially
- 2:31Speaker 1: to do small kind of shows and just like with
- 2:35Speaker 1: friends and just a nice easy, sort of like couple
- 2:39Speaker 1: of weekends to run this this headlineer we're doing next week,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Like it's just it's going to be just like an
- 2:45Speaker 1: awesome way to like kick off this year in particular,
- 2:48Speaker 1: you know. But yeah, the shows I got to play
- 2:50Speaker 1: last year as well with the Boys was just magic. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 1: so good.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so good.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And it does sound like you're right, like this is
- 2:58Speaker 3: a nice smooth transition to maybe going overseas possibly later
- 3:02Speaker 3: on in the year or in the future.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Who knows. Yeah, honestly, it's it's like even if we
- 3:08Speaker 1: can just cap it at that and like put out
- 3:11Speaker 1: all this music that we've got to do, like that's
- 3:13Speaker 1: almost yeah, that's almost perfect in itself. But we do
- 3:16Speaker 1: have a bit sort of I don't know lined up
- 3:18Speaker 1: for the end. I like there's a couple of ideas,
- 3:21Speaker 1: a couple of things going on, and obviously just with
- 3:24Speaker 1: a new album and new songs and stuff like, we
- 3:27Speaker 1: just I don't know, it's we just kind of got
- 3:29Speaker 1: to sit and wait and see what happens. But it's
- 3:31Speaker 1: going to be. It's gonna be awesome, no doubt. I'm
- 3:33Speaker 1: really stoked. I've never been so stoked on like what
- 3:36Speaker 1: we've what we've done, or what I've been a part of. Really,
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's just it's gonna hit all the right spots for
- 3:43Speaker 1: us in particularly, you know, especially yeah, personally for me
- 3:47Speaker 1: to be playing all that as well, it's just the
- 3:50Speaker 1: most fun. And yeah, the shows we're going to get
- 3:53Speaker 1: to play so far, playing all that new music is
- 3:57Speaker 1: definitely the best part. You know, we've done the same
- 3:59Speaker 1: album live for a lot of years now, so it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: just going to be I'm sure the other boys feel
- 4:05Speaker 1: it even more, you know, doing so much more tour
- 4:07Speaker 1: in than me. But yeah, it's it's time, Yeah, definitely.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And I did hear you mention there that there was
- 4:13Speaker 2: a new.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Album coming out, so it's not just going to be
- 4:16Speaker 3: singles that are released.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well, like it's just I guess the roles
- 4:22Speaker 1: of the next thing and like, yeah, we've just got
- 4:25Speaker 1: plenty to give to be honest, it's it's the first
- 4:28Speaker 1: of many, Yeah, that's for sure.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And have you guys played the current live to an
- 4:33Speaker 3: audience yet or who will be the first?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, fair few times. Actually, I think they've
- 4:38Speaker 1: I think they might have done it. They definitely did
- 4:42Speaker 1: it in the US last year. Yeah, I think we
- 4:47Speaker 1: also did it, and the Aussie shows we did sort of, Yeah,
- 4:52Speaker 1: at some point last year as well, we did it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: We did Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne. I think we did like
- 4:59Speaker 1: a couple of shows there. We played it there too.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So they've been they've been playing it, I think, yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 1: most of the time since last year. Yeah, sort of yeah,
- 5:08Speaker 1: back end of last year. So it's definitely it's definitely
- 5:12Speaker 1: a good first song. It's the one that like we
- 5:14Speaker 1: we sort of felt the most confident about putting that
- 5:17Speaker 1: first and just like has the most sort of like
- 5:20Speaker 1: packaged you know us next in it, and we're just
- 5:24Speaker 1: going to really pretty much be sticking a similar vibe
- 5:29Speaker 1: to that, I guess. Yeah, that's kind of the The
- 5:32Speaker 1: gist is a lot more groovy and a lot more Yeah,
- 5:36Speaker 1: a lot more like I guess spacious.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I've heard on the web, but I don't know
- 5:42Speaker 4: how true this is, but that this track in particular
- 5:46Speaker 4: sounds a bit more slower tempo is would that?
- 5:50Speaker 2: Do you think that's true?
- 5:51Speaker 3: And do you think the other songs and the album
- 5:53Speaker 3: to come are a bit downbeat?
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I think it's probably I guess, yeah,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I guess it probably is. I haven't really thought about
- 6:07Speaker 1: it too much. There's definitely still some of the yeah,
- 6:10Speaker 1: the original sort of speed of Arson and like yeah,
- 6:14Speaker 1: like those those sort of riffs and stuff like that,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but it definitely is a lot more sort of like
- 6:20Speaker 1: land back, and we definitely have just put a whole
- 6:24Speaker 1: lot more emphasis in just like good flow and energy,
- 6:29Speaker 1: you know, and just really just groovy sort of stuff.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It's sort of it's us trying to be as much
- 6:36Speaker 1: fun as we can on stage from like start to finish.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You know, That's that's the goal with the music for sure,
- 6:43Speaker 1: you know. So, yeah, i'd say just because of that, Yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 1: but there's definitely still like all of us yeah in it,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you know, we've definitely still got the the justice for
- 6:54Speaker 1: the dam that people know, Yeah that we know awesome.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And is there particular city or venue you're excited to
- 7:01Speaker 2: hit on.
- 7:02Speaker 3: This tour considering it's been a while since your last
- 7:04Speaker 3: headline run here.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't know. Like we're doing a pretty
- 7:11Speaker 1: crazy one off show in Blacktown at the very end
- 7:14Speaker 1: of the tour, which is just yeah, it's so crazy
- 7:17Speaker 1: that it's happened in twenty twenty five, but has Yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of history in that suburb and with
- 7:23Speaker 1: shows in that place for that for this band, So
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's it's something I never thought would happen again, to
- 7:30Speaker 1: be honest. So that's definitely going to be crazy. And
- 7:33Speaker 1: also for it to be at the end, and like,
- 7:35Speaker 1: you know, just the little things about it, like end
- 7:37Speaker 1: of the tour, such an awesome time and then just
- 7:41Speaker 1: go straight home up the road and yeah, that's kind
- 7:43Speaker 1: of like, yeah, that's kind of that, like it would
- 7:45Speaker 1: be it would be a rare night where I'm sure
- 7:47Speaker 1: maybe after you know that, there'd be a bit of
- 7:49Speaker 1: a debrief and like maybe some hangs and stuff like that,
- 7:52Speaker 1: you know what I mean, getting on the road or
- 7:54Speaker 1: getting to sleep whatever we've got to do with it
- 7:55Speaker 1: somewhere else. Yeah, probably that one for that, But you know,
- 7:58Speaker 1: there's other stuff that I'm just like blown away by,
- 8:00Speaker 1: like this rural tour we're doing in the middle of
- 8:04Speaker 1: the years. Just like I think there's four yeah, four
- 8:08Speaker 1: wa shows or something like that. There's like all these
- 8:10Speaker 1: shows and all these places that I've just got No,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I've really got to sit down and have a look
- 8:14Speaker 1: on the map and get some bearings because it's just
- 8:16Speaker 1: I've got to note, you know, that's crazy. These are
- 8:19Speaker 1: going to be some wild places. So there's definitely all
- 8:21Speaker 1: of them that I'm looking forward to, and just anywhere
- 8:23Speaker 1: we've already been. Everything we do that's rural is just
- 8:26Speaker 1: the most fun ever. Really, Like it's yeah, because we're
- 8:29Speaker 1: just I don't know, I guess we're probably were those
- 8:32Speaker 1: kind of blokes, you know. Yeah, we like just we
- 8:35Speaker 1: like the simple things. Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so good. It's so good too that you're
- 8:39Speaker 3: coming to these rural areas. I live in a rural
- 8:41Speaker 3: area myself, and the amount of times that bands do
- 8:44Speaker 3: not pass through here and I have to travel hours
- 8:47Speaker 3: to see them. So yeah, no, it's really awesome that
- 8:49Speaker 3: you guys are are focusing on those rural areas.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's so good that it's happening more. I'd love it.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I hope that it just becomes fully normal, you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: fifty fifty, Like it's just you do either one if
- 8:59Speaker 1: you come to Australia, you know, that would just be
- 9:01Speaker 1: so cool, you know, that's it. Imagine how awesome that
- 9:05Speaker 1: it would work too. I'm sure it would work. But yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: I think about it all the time, you know, but
- 9:09Speaker 1: it's sick to be doing them, like I swear it
- 9:11Speaker 1: was once every few years, and it just seems that
- 9:13Speaker 1: it's a once a year at least thing now. And
- 9:16Speaker 1: to be doing on this big I like never thought
- 9:18Speaker 1: I would do that long on the road in Australia,
- 9:21Speaker 1: which is just so exciting, you know, because there's probably
- 9:24Speaker 1: I don't even know if it will happen again, to
- 9:26Speaker 1: be honest, Like it's four weeks, which is just yeah,
- 9:30Speaker 1: something that you don't get to do often, you know.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it, keeping it in Australia.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Do you have any favorite memories of your time playing
- 9:39Speaker 3: here at any tour or show?
- 9:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, there's just too many, so many, don't
- 9:47Speaker 1: I don't even really know. There's just been oh, so
- 9:53Speaker 1: many exciting rhymes. It's so tricky. Yeah. Oh. The one
- 9:59Speaker 1: that comes to mind straight away is like the headliner
- 10:03Speaker 1: that we did in twenty twenty I think, yeah, twenty
- 10:07Speaker 1: twenty two, I think it was, and we did like
- 10:10Speaker 1: we did Melbourne and it was just I don't know why,
- 10:14Speaker 1: it's actually weird I'm thinking of it. I hate my
- 10:15Speaker 1: birth like birthdays, but it was my birthday and it
- 10:19Speaker 1: was just such a surprise and like they it was
- 10:21Speaker 1: just such a a really nice night and it was
- 10:23Speaker 1: a big show. That tour was also just very pinnacle,
- 10:27Speaker 1: like an epic time with really close people. A lot
- 10:30Speaker 1: of people on the tour we had it. We had
- 10:32Speaker 1: like an awesome crew of some of them in particular
- 10:35Speaker 1: my best friends, you know. So it was just it
- 10:38Speaker 1: was a very crazy, sort of one off time. You know.
- 10:40Speaker 1: It was probably a sick one that was Yeah, when
- 10:42Speaker 1: was that November twenty two I think, And it was
- 10:45Speaker 1: with Kuba Khan as well, which are just such a
- 10:48Speaker 1: classic awesome, yeah, great friend of ours band, So yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 1: good man, that one definitely probably probably turned me around
- 10:56Speaker 1: on birthdays. I reckon that one.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It was a good birthday that year definitely was.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I can't say it wasn't that it'd be terrible.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Bit. Oh and since you have toured all around the
- 11:05Speaker 3: world and obviously Australia is did you notice a difference
- 11:09Speaker 3: between the crowds here and over there or.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, like in all sorts of weird ways. In
- 11:16Speaker 1: many ways, it's all the same, you know, like especially
- 11:18Speaker 1: when it comes to shows, it's just such a you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: like a primal thing, you know what I mean. So
- 11:23Speaker 1: it's yeah, a lot of a lot of people just
- 11:25Speaker 1: sort of have the same sort of love everywhere you go.
- 11:29Speaker 1: But it is so cool just seeing the little things
- 11:31Speaker 1: that are different, I guess, like yeah, just the different
- 11:34Speaker 1: ways people love it and like I guess the different
- 11:36Speaker 1: ways people perceive it. And you know, some places everybody
- 11:41Speaker 1: kind of tells you on the way in that you
- 11:43Speaker 1: kind of to expect a certain thing and you go
- 11:45Speaker 1: and it's just like it's not like that, and there's
- 11:47Speaker 1: no reason why, you know. But we've played lots of
- 11:51Speaker 1: places that you know, people just already know you that
- 11:54Speaker 1: like there's you know, you meet some people sometimes every
- 11:57Speaker 1: now and then, like and they've heard of you and
- 12:00Speaker 1: you're in like Poland, or something. You know, you're just
- 12:02Speaker 1: like ow on earth, Like it just makes no sense,
- 12:05Speaker 1: you know, So I don't know it. Yeah, it's probably
- 12:10Speaker 1: places like that that it just blows me away the
- 12:13Speaker 1: most because, yeah, they love it the most when you're
- 12:16Speaker 1: when you're there too, I guess, like because they can't
- 12:18Speaker 1: believe it either, the same way you can't if they
- 12:20Speaker 1: know you. You know, it's those ones are definitely the sickest.
- 12:23Speaker 1: And it's places like that, I think, yeah, like pull Out,
- 12:26Speaker 1: you know, Eastern Europe and yeah, stuff like that where
- 12:30Speaker 1: there's just so much other things going on and like
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, a band from Sydney playing you know, hardcore
- 12:36Speaker 1: and ship it's just you know, why would he be listening?
- 12:39Speaker 1: Why would they be listening to us? You know, it
- 12:40Speaker 1: just blows me away. So yeah, yeah it's awesome.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And a little bit more on the fans. Is
- 12:49Speaker 3: there any thing that's really cool or really.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Weird that you've received from a fan?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Oh? Not really, honestly, Yeah, not not really, to be honest,
- 13:04Speaker 1: I think everything's been really positive, like if anything to Yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 1: lots of things that have just been really helpful, if
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like we've you know, we're
- 13:16Speaker 1: we are very fortunate people. We have gotten so much help,
- 13:21Speaker 1: you know obviously, you know, just to get to where
- 13:24Speaker 1: we are, So it'd be crazy, it'd be so hard
- 13:26Speaker 1: to just thank everyone. But yeah, there's been lots of
- 13:30Speaker 1: just helpful things. I guess, if anything, you know, some
- 13:32Speaker 1: people have just given us stuff on the road that's
- 13:34Speaker 1: just been like that's like that's thoughtful, you know, like yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: nothing nothing weird, but just really people are really thoughtful.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, that's.
- 13:44Speaker 2: So lovely and so nice.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I guess, yeah, I've heard I've asked this question quite
- 13:48Speaker 3: a few times, and the things I've heard about the
- 13:50Speaker 3: weird gifts, like.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Everything from raw fish like raw fish to like other
- 13:56Speaker 2: weird stuff. So yeah, maybe it's.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Coming to you.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I guess.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I wonder what all these people are like though, like
- 14:02Speaker 1: how they said it, you know what I mean, Like
- 14:04Speaker 1: what's the message they see? Some people might some people
- 14:07Speaker 1: might put it out they want to want to we're
- 14:08Speaker 1: all fish and stuff. I don't think any of us,
- 14:11Speaker 1: none of us really want that that sort of stuff.
- 14:14Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, it'd be it'd be it'd be actually
- 14:17Speaker 1: kind of maybe handy of a bit of fish one
- 14:19Speaker 1: night anyway, though, because some of the food, some of
- 14:21Speaker 1: the time dogshit.
- 14:22Speaker 2: So yeah, that's it.
- 14:27Speaker 3: The Current marks your first new single in four years.
- 14:30Speaker 3: How does it feel to release new music after such
- 14:32Speaker 3: a long gap, especially one that reflects resilience and the
- 14:35Speaker 3: struggles we've faced.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's just such a good feeling really, to
- 14:41Speaker 1: be honest, like a lot of relief for for for
- 14:44Speaker 1: all of us. I'm sure it's just been a long time,
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, just just to keep putting on one that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you know, we've got this new idea and new stuff
- 14:55Speaker 1: to play and like we you know, we're just different
- 14:56Speaker 1: people from the last album we did, you know, So
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's there's all is this sort of I guess there's
- 15:01Speaker 1: this feeling. I don't think it's really there, but for us,
- 15:03Speaker 1: there's just this kind of feeling of disconnect in some ways.
- 15:07Speaker 1: It's probably a little you know, too heavy of a
- 15:09Speaker 1: word to say for the meaning, but it's just such
- 15:12Speaker 1: a relief to sort of like yeah, just attached timelines
- 15:16Speaker 1: with everyone that listens to us as well, you know,
- 15:18Speaker 1: like this is sort of who we are now and
- 15:21Speaker 1: sort of like what we're hoping to have fun doing,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I guess, and like it's just sick to finally be
- 15:26Speaker 1: on the same page. And yeah, also just to sort
- 15:29Speaker 1: of like put another pin in what we're doing now
- 15:32Speaker 1: to then do the next thing, which is just even
- 15:33Speaker 1: more exciting because you know, yeah, I'm already enjoying like
- 15:38Speaker 1: where we've gone with this record that yeah, it's just
- 15:42Speaker 1: going to mean another thing, you know, that we can
- 15:45Speaker 1: do completely different again. Because it was something you know,
- 15:48Speaker 1: quite specific that we did, it leaves a lot of
- 15:50Speaker 1: room to do something else, and yeah, just add add
- 15:53Speaker 1: things to what we did there. There's a lot of
- 15:55Speaker 1: room to add, I guess. So yeah, it's it's just
- 15:59Speaker 1: super were exciting and such a yeah, I kind of surreal,
- 16:05Speaker 1: surreal moment. Yeah, when I see it pop up on
- 16:07Speaker 1: Instagram and stuff, I'm just like, oh my god, that's right.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Like I've gotten so used to people not knowing this song,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but I've known this song, but like, yeah, maybe it's
- 16:16Speaker 1: a year and a half or whatever now, So yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's just a way of experience like that. But I'm
- 16:21Speaker 1: I'm also just really excited for like what's more to come,
- 16:24Speaker 1: because there's just more songs that are just like even
- 16:27Speaker 1: even just more of like the same sort of fun
- 16:31Speaker 1: I guess.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Yeah, the way you're so positive about it makes it
- 16:34Speaker 3: so exciting to hear, Like, can't wait to hear these
- 16:37Speaker 3: new songs.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Too, Like, Yeah, it's honestly, it's the funnest stuff I've
- 16:41Speaker 1: I've had to play, Yeah, for sure, you know, and
- 16:44Speaker 1: that's only the other stuff is so much fun. It's
- 16:47Speaker 1: just this is, just, if anything, just a little less fast.
- 16:51Speaker 1: So I'm actually sort of just worrying less about being
- 16:55Speaker 1: so fast you know at these shows that I'm just
- 16:58Speaker 1: going to be worried a little bit more about like
- 17:00Speaker 1: just some more fundamental fun stuff. I guess I'm really
- 17:03Speaker 1: looking forward to that as a drama in particular, and
- 17:05Speaker 1: like a you know, a metal hardcore band. It's definitely
- 17:08Speaker 1: like really exciting.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah, that's awesome, And the song has such a strong message.
- 17:15Speaker 2: About endurance and resilience.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Can you dive a little deeper into the personal message
- 17:19Speaker 3: behind the Current and how did the band's journey and
- 17:22Speaker 3: individual challenges influence the song's creation.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Yeah, we sort of the way we write is like
- 17:33Speaker 1: really sort of we all write like quite a lot
- 17:37Speaker 1: separately and then sort of like you know, come in together.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So like the current was Nick, one of the other boys,
- 17:43Speaker 1: wrote that song that, so he has like a lot
- 17:46Speaker 1: more of the I guess the insight and sort of
- 17:49Speaker 1: the vibe of it, but I do know, and sort
- 17:51Speaker 1: of we all are. It's sort of like we do
- 17:52Speaker 1: touch on the same page with the theme and the element,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and that's sort of by nature and quite it's quite
- 17:58Speaker 1: authentic because that's sort of what we are all, you know,
- 18:01Speaker 1: in many ways, super passionate about and like it's sort
- 18:05Speaker 1: of definitely just been I think a part of our lives,
- 18:11Speaker 1: especially I probably put it to just our ages, our
- 18:14Speaker 1: age as well, you know, in our late twenties going
- 18:16Speaker 1: into our thirties, and a lot of us have been
- 18:18Speaker 1: through some pretty like major and crazy things in our lives.
- 18:22Speaker 1: It's like a lot of things have just bred a
- 18:24Speaker 1: search for meaning in life, you know what I mean.
- 18:26Speaker 1: It's like that. I think it is in many ways,
- 18:29Speaker 1: like a death of our childhood in many ways, like
- 18:32Speaker 1: in the far end of it, and us sort of
- 18:34Speaker 1: like really rebuilding into the thing that we have to
- 18:37Speaker 1: be for this this life that we've all sort of
- 18:40Speaker 1: like obviously created it and the same life that everyone's
- 18:42Speaker 1: created at this age. So yeah, I think it's a
- 18:46Speaker 1: lot of just becoming and also by chance, a lot
- 18:51Speaker 1: of shit has happened, you know to some of us,
- 18:54Speaker 1: and you know, that's just the way life goes for
- 18:56Speaker 1: some And I think it's just just a truth that
- 18:59Speaker 1: there's in a lot to overcome, you know, And that's
- 19:04Speaker 1: then obviously birth a lot of different things, like you know, personally,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and I can even say it for some of the
- 19:09Speaker 1: other boys as well, like a passion for like you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: I guess psychology and philosophy and you know, self help
- 19:17Speaker 1: and yeah, things like that. It's just like, especially for me,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I can say it's become like one of my greatest
- 19:22Speaker 1: interests in my old elder older twenties and thirties, and yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's I just search for meaning,
- 19:29Speaker 1: well you know what I mean. It's just really really
- 19:32Speaker 1: fun to write about that and then sort of like
- 19:34Speaker 1: fuel it and angle sort of like your own shit
- 19:36Speaker 1: through it as well, just like a channel in that
- 19:39Speaker 1: sort of vein, if that makes sense. So yeah, I
- 19:42Speaker 1: think it's pretty Yeah, it's sort of it's hard to
- 19:46Speaker 1: say it without I don't know, feeling like a bit
- 19:48Speaker 1: of a like a bit of a death. But you're
- 19:50Speaker 1: just like, I don't know, we're just trying our best
- 19:52Speaker 1: to be as honest about it, but it is really authentic,
- 19:56Speaker 1: you know what we're sort of talking about, and these
- 20:00Speaker 1: struggles are genuinely like causing us to push our limits
- 20:05Speaker 1: to find ways through them, and that's sort of I
- 20:08Speaker 1: guess what we're writing about. Yeah, yeah, especially yeah, the
- 20:13Speaker 1: last few years, you know, and and writing that as well,
- 20:16Speaker 1: and what's to come, like it's it's yeah, I think
- 20:19Speaker 1: it's just sort of the it's the way it is
- 20:22Speaker 1: for a lot of for a lot of us in life,
- 20:24Speaker 1: you know. So yeah, we'll just keep keep doing that
- 20:26Speaker 1: as well.
- 20:27Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's obviously a very cumulative project from all
- 20:32Speaker 3: of you, especially you.
- 20:33Speaker 2: I just want to say a very poignant answer being
- 20:36Speaker 2: a drummer on the song and the meaning behind it.
- 20:39Speaker 2: That's amazing.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's you know, it's sort of to be
- 20:44Speaker 1: honest that the current in particular like accidentally sort of
- 20:47Speaker 1: like lands on me. But this is it, like I
- 20:51Speaker 1: kind of yeah, I should say that it's from Nick
- 20:54Speaker 1: and Nick's perspective, you know, and yeah, you know, there's
- 20:57Speaker 1: lots of songs that we've all gotten and like I've
- 21:00Speaker 1: had my say and some songs in the same sort
- 21:03Speaker 1: of vein and I'm I can't even Actually, I actually
- 21:05Speaker 1: haven't spoken too much to Nick about it. I just
- 21:07Speaker 1: sort of have found my own meaning in it, to
- 21:09Speaker 1: be honest, because that's so easy because it directly relates.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And like, I don't know, like Nick is like, yeah,
- 21:15Speaker 1: Nick is a brother to me, and I'm sure he
- 21:17Speaker 1: feels the same. So I don't know, it could be
- 21:19Speaker 1: that vain, but I just think it was definitely really
- 21:24Speaker 1: easy for me to try to write some calms for us,
- 21:27Speaker 1: like at the time, you know, with everything, with everything
- 21:30Speaker 1: going on for me and like what I had to
- 21:32Speaker 1: sort of deal with, so like, yeah, I think the
- 21:35Speaker 1: other boys just sort of, you know, I would feel
- 21:39Speaker 1: the same too. They probably felt the same, and it's yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 1: it's it's definitely definitely a massive group effort, you know
- 21:47Speaker 1: what I mean. Like it's just, yeah, it's so hard
- 21:50Speaker 1: to put things into words sometimes, and that's we're a
- 21:53Speaker 1: band of and it's not so much a good thing
- 21:55Speaker 1: all the time, you know, but we're really we're a
- 21:58Speaker 1: band of end of visual like writers. You know, we
- 22:01Speaker 1: can all we're all kind of like deep yeah, like people,
- 22:05Speaker 1: I guess, like, yeah, I mean, so we both we
- 22:07Speaker 1: all come with like a lot, you know, and that's
- 22:10Speaker 1: actually kind of where we have to do a lot
- 22:12Speaker 1: of the work is pulling back, shipping back and just
- 22:15Speaker 1: like honing things in.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just being more like like, yeah, just simpler
- 22:20Speaker 1: structures to things and stuff, you know what I mean.
- 22:22Speaker 1: So yeah, I just I have to I have to
- 22:27Speaker 1: include the yeah, the other lads with all that. That's
- 22:29Speaker 1: just that's something we've always done, just because we've been
- 22:32Speaker 1: forced to. You know. It's definitely we struggle with our lyrics,
- 22:35Speaker 1: you know, we always have. We've always just ripped it
- 22:38Speaker 1: with all the instruments and all that sort of stuff.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And then the thing that it is always is the
- 22:44Speaker 1: hardest thing as well. It's the most important, you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: what it's about and how you say it and stuff.
- 22:48Speaker 1: So that's always been a big, yeah, a big effort,
- 22:53Speaker 1: big stuff.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Well, you guys definitely crush it in the end, and
- 22:57Speaker 3: everyone it sounds like everyone gets their chance to be her,
- 23:00Speaker 3: but you're all on the same wavelength as well, and.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, very naturally. Yeah, that's sort of the thing, and
- 23:04Speaker 1: that's definitely the reoccurring element that makes it work, yeah
- 23:08Speaker 1: for sure, And that constantly, constantly arises and you're like, oh,
- 23:11Speaker 1: that's this is cool, you know what I mean, constantly
- 23:13Speaker 1: having crossovers with each other, which is really mad.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's sick. And is there a particular track if
- 23:20Speaker 2: you're allowed to tell us from the upcoming releases that
- 23:22Speaker 2: you're especially excited to perform live during the tour?
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah. Look, the current is just so good to play
- 23:30Speaker 1: on the drums, obviously because there's so many bits on
- 23:33Speaker 1: the drums where the drums get to do the singing,
- 23:36Speaker 1: which is just crazy, you know. But there's a couple,
- 23:40Speaker 1: there's some other songs coming that have just got some
- 23:42Speaker 1: also drums that get to do that thing bits, which like,
- 23:46Speaker 1: you know, I selfishly say I'm looking forward to do,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you know, only because they're a challenge, not so much
- 23:54Speaker 1: because they're flashy, you know. Ah yeah, but they're definitely
- 23:59Speaker 1: really fun songs play. And they're short too, which is
- 24:01Speaker 1: what's kind of cool about them, and they're they're punching us.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So definitely the next the next couple to come, you know,
- 24:11Speaker 1: we had to we really had to pick, yeah, the
- 24:15Speaker 1: right one sort of thing. So like I think just
- 24:17Speaker 1: the next few, Yeah, it's just our best foot forward,
- 24:20Speaker 1: Like what we're most comfortable just to come out with
- 24:22Speaker 1: after so long, you know.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, And how would you say your sound has
- 24:28Speaker 3: evolved since the release of Pain Is Power?
- 24:31Speaker 2: Is the current a natural.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Progression or did you set out to do something completely
- 24:35Speaker 3: different this time around.
- 24:36Speaker 2: You've kind of already answered.
- 24:37Speaker 1: This, yeah, a little bit. It's sort of yeah, it's
- 24:42Speaker 1: just sort of like I guess, just shitloads of live
- 24:45Speaker 1: shows and just playing in so many different venues, and
- 24:49Speaker 1: especially for us, like we've had the chance to be
- 24:51Speaker 1: like on some big support tours where we get to
- 24:53Speaker 1: play some really big venues and put our sound on
- 24:57Speaker 1: that stage. And then we've also done the same thing
- 24:59Speaker 1: and some really really dingy sort of venues, which like
- 25:02Speaker 1: both have the absolute like megapluses, and and I think
- 25:07Speaker 1: that's made it really easy to sort of slowly or
- 25:10Speaker 1: just sort of you've naturally, we've naturally just slowly wanted
- 25:13Speaker 1: it to sound better and better, And especially because we're
- 25:15Speaker 1: a band that kind of naturally is hard to sound good.
- 25:18Speaker 1: You know, we have a lot of elements in our
- 25:21Speaker 1: tones and things that just by nature they're just like
- 25:25Speaker 1: hard to hear it slightly and audible, especially with a
- 25:28Speaker 1: few other elements like a certain room size. It's just
- 25:31Speaker 1: you know, our guitar tones are just watched out. You know,
- 25:34Speaker 1: it's just the way it is. It's because that's just
- 25:35Speaker 1: how we dial it. We dial it almost washed out anyway,
- 25:38Speaker 1: you know. So it's like I think you abrasive music.
- 25:41Speaker 1: It's just like you really find that from the get go.
- 25:45Speaker 1: It's just kind of messy and like you think you
- 25:47Speaker 1: figure it out, and you go to somewhere else and
- 25:48Speaker 1: it's just even worse or really good one night and
- 25:51Speaker 1: then really bad the next. So over time that just
- 25:54Speaker 1: conditioned us, I think. And then it does leak into
- 25:57Speaker 1: your writing too, you know, because I think after we've
- 26:01Speaker 1: done so many shows and touring, you know, you sit
- 26:03Speaker 1: down to write the new stuff and you kind of
- 26:04Speaker 1: can't help but think a little bit more about the
- 26:06Speaker 1: live show, and like, yeah, that's sort of really been
- 26:11Speaker 1: a big factor in how we sound on record. Is
- 26:13Speaker 1: sort of like all right, well, how can we make
- 26:15Speaker 1: it so that like the record is sort of complimenting
- 26:17Speaker 1: like what works best everywhere live, you know, because you
- 26:21Speaker 1: can really sort of slowly after a while, I think,
- 26:25Speaker 1: get conditions to a point where your whole as a band,
- 26:28Speaker 1: you're like you are honing in on something that does
- 26:31Speaker 1: work in sort of any sort of different mode, you know,
- 26:34Speaker 1: place you've got to play. So I think getting that
- 26:37Speaker 1: on record is super important obviously because that's just sort
- 26:40Speaker 1: of you know, the candidness is that we want to
- 26:43Speaker 1: hear on an album, you know, or like a record
- 26:45Speaker 1: or whatever you do, and like you want to sort
- 26:47Speaker 1: of feel like you're yeah, it's not perfect, you know.
- 26:50Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, we've definitely tried to do a bit
- 26:53Speaker 1: of that, but the the goal is just what was
- 26:57Speaker 1: you want to hear that it makes you want to go?
- 26:59Speaker 1: You know, you want to go, you have to go
- 27:01Speaker 1: see it. That's sort of a big one as well.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I guess that's probably a easy way to put it.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and just quickly last question.
- 27:09Speaker 3: You guys have worked both in producing albums with some
- 27:12Speaker 3: pretty big names, but also on tours you've been you know,
- 27:16Speaker 3: not what's the word not headlining, but I've completely lost
- 27:20Speaker 3: the word opening sorry for some huge bands. Do you
- 27:25Speaker 3: ever pinch yourself?
- 27:27Speaker 1: Oh? All the time, all the time. Oh, it's crazy,
- 27:31Speaker 1: Like even just at the moment, like our guitarist Nick,
- 27:35Speaker 1: you know, he's just about to go overseas to play
- 27:39Speaker 1: guitar for Kubla Khan't. Yeah, and he's playing guitar for
- 27:42Speaker 1: Kuba Khan't whoill main support for Killswitch Engage And like
- 27:46Speaker 1: when I was sixteen, Killswitch Engage my favorite band, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and like he's not going to just play with him,
- 27:52Speaker 1: He's going to know him by the end of that
- 27:53Speaker 1: and that's just crazy, Like Nick's my little brother, you know.
- 27:56Speaker 1: It's just it's just that's a yeah, that's all the time,
- 28:01Speaker 1: to be honest, and it doesn't it doesn't like it's
- 28:06Speaker 1: somehow doesn't stick because I still just can't believe it
- 28:08Speaker 1: a lot. It doesn't make any sense to me, Like
- 28:10Speaker 1: why why am I here? You know, I really don't understand.
- 28:13Speaker 1: To be honest to I just keep keep on going
- 28:16Speaker 1: and just hope for the best, I guess. Yeah, it's
- 28:18Speaker 1: all the time. That's a big one that's happening at
- 28:20Speaker 1: the moment that I'm just like, wow, that's crazy, you know,
- 28:22Speaker 1: watching him just pack for that is just like wow, man,
- 28:26Speaker 1: that's so sick. Yeah.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Some guys that started from Western Sydney just
- 28:31Speaker 2: suddenly you know, on the stage with some huge acts.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Yeah, incredible, just yeah, in the in the in the cream,
- 28:40Speaker 1: you know at the top. It's just so cool.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and your own you guys have become pretty successful.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And what I mean like, yeah, everything, we've done this
- 28:49Speaker 1: all the same. I just I cannot believe. I do
- 28:50Speaker 1: not understand it. I still will continue to understand it.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And it's just every time it comes up and I've
- 28:56Speaker 1: got to go and do it. I've just got to
- 28:57Speaker 1: jump into it. We're doing this and we're just hoping
- 29:00Speaker 1: for the best, and like we're winging it. You know,
- 29:03Speaker 1: it's the only way. So yeah, very grave to work. Yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 1: what's to come. We hope it. Yeah, I hope that's
- 29:11Speaker 1: it suits everyone. And then it's just like exactly what
- 29:14Speaker 1: we were hoping because it should be.
- 29:16Speaker 2: See, Yeah, that's awesome.
- 29:18Speaker 3: I'm sure it will. Chaz, thank you so much for
- 29:20Speaker 3: your time today. Good luck with the too, It'll be
- 29:23Speaker 3: a good one. It's been an absolute pleasure.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Thank you you too. Thanks so much for having me.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Take care
