- 0:29Speaker 1: I also want to talk about and I forgot what
- 0:31Speaker 1: it was, the blame pie. There's many many slices on
- 0:35Speaker 1: this pie. I'm gonna bring some blame pie to our
- 0:37Speaker 1: Thanksgiving show. How about that? We'll have some blame pie
- 0:41Speaker 1: kind of pie. People make fun of me all the time.
- 0:43Speaker 1: They call me a contrarian. I'm really not a contrarian.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I just don't always see things exactly the same way, right,
- 0:48Speaker 1: you see things contrary to whatever? No, I don't. I'm
- 0:51Speaker 1: out here in the service something. You get the one
- 0:53Speaker 1: case of gator, a case of water, in case of clay,
- 0:56Speaker 1: he eats clay. I got it. Just that fun. Wasn't
- 0:59Speaker 1: that funny? Even get to kiss Tom? Yeah, Mike, I might,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I might. Does the restraining order count in Germany. Is
- 1:07Speaker 1: that now, take my passport away. My parents were school teachers.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I was a PAC ten offensive player of the Year.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I got an impressive comfort behind victory against the Vikings
- 1:18Speaker 1: that changed the course of that season. True, come on, Paul,
- 1:21Speaker 1: true true? Wow. Wow. Yeah, that's pathetic. This is Patriots Unfiltered,
- 1:29Speaker 1: fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome into Patriots Unfiltered. It
- 1:35Speaker 1: is Thursday. Here, it is Thursday, and I still can't
- 1:38Speaker 1: believe I didn't get that yesterday. It's embarrassing, Paul, that's
- 1:40Speaker 1: your guy. I mean, I do dominate the games. You do, wow, dude,
- 1:44Speaker 1: But I his or not. That's that's really pathetic. And
- 1:49Speaker 1: then and then we were talking Felger Pilot on your
- 1:51Speaker 1: boy yesterday too. That was that was uncalled for. But
- 1:55Speaker 1: we'll get into what a troll job that was. We'll
- 1:57Speaker 1: get into that. That's right, guys, it's it's deuced covering
- 2:00Speaker 1: for Fred. He's in Germany, and if you've seen any
- 2:02Speaker 1: of his tweets, I'm not quite sure what's going on there.
- 2:04Speaker 1: We saw some some cheerleaders there, but also some kind
- 2:07Speaker 1: of animal. I don't check his Twitter feed. There's something
- 2:09Speaker 1: weird going Yeah, I don't know what the hell's going
- 2:11Speaker 1: on German Fred. We got a little taste of it yesterday,
- 2:14Speaker 1: but apparently he arrived in Munich and uh, he's setting
- 2:19Speaker 1: the scene there. I guess we'll have to find out
- 2:20Speaker 1: what the mood was there mood, But for now it's
- 2:24Speaker 1: me and Paul. We'll have Evan joining us shortly. So,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you know, it's a long weekend coming up, Paul, we
- 2:28Speaker 1: got bye week. It's a long weekend. We're looking forward
- 2:31Speaker 1: to anything over the weekend in terms of the NFL,
- 2:33Speaker 1: I mean, whatever you're doing, you know, with with with
- 2:36Speaker 1: Lane and the kids, you know, but are you looking
- 2:38Speaker 1: forward to, like maybe getting a chance to see a
- 2:41Speaker 1: team or any particular game or anything that's a good Uh,
- 2:45Speaker 1: that's a good question. I'm curious if I mean, I
- 2:47Speaker 1: would be saying the Minnesota Buffalo game. But now we're
- 2:50Speaker 1: seeing some questions about Josh Allen. Is he gonna be
- 2:53Speaker 1: able to play with that sprained elbow of his um.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But two teams obviously coming up on the docket for
- 2:59Speaker 1: the pat So that was one I'd like to flip on.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I'm sure I'll flip on the Germany game in the morning.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That's always nice you get up here. I'm looking forward
- 3:05Speaker 1: to a red zone Sunday. Haven't had one in a while.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Didn't get to quite enjoy the last one when we
- 3:13Speaker 1: had the Monday night game. We get Chicago because I
- 3:15Speaker 1: had some family things to tend to. But yeah, nothing
- 3:20Speaker 1: in particular in terms of the games. And you're right,
- 3:22Speaker 1: like you can't you know, the Buffalo Minnesota one would
- 3:25Speaker 1: have been, you know, seven and one, six and two,
- 3:27Speaker 1: the two teams that you've got coming up on Thursday
- 3:29Speaker 1: nights back to back after the Jets game. But now
- 3:32Speaker 1: it doesn't look like Josh Allen will be playing, so yeah, yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 1: interesting one from Minnesota'd be curious. It's just how they
- 3:38Speaker 1: do in that environment. I mean, Josh Allen the huge
- 3:40Speaker 1: piece of it. But I think we all kind of
- 3:42Speaker 1: like you have some great rants about Minnesota lately of
- 3:44Speaker 1: just like I don't get it. I don't get it
- 3:45Speaker 1: how I think they're a good team. Like you know,
- 3:47Speaker 1: people mistake it with you know, saying like that they
- 3:50Speaker 1: suck and like no, like if you beat you, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: like I think if Buffalo beats Minnesota, like that's a
- 3:57Speaker 1: good win. Like there's seven to one, that's a good team.
- 4:00Speaker 1: The Patriots beat them on Thanksgiving night, That's that's a
- 4:03Speaker 1: good win. Um, I just don't think that. I don't
- 4:07Speaker 1: think of Minnesota like I think of Buffalo in Philly,
- 4:11Speaker 1: in Kansas City, um, maybe even Dallas right now, UM,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I think of those teams as being better and more
- 4:18Speaker 1: more talented. And Minnesota I think is you know, I
- 4:23Speaker 1: gave you the stat yesterday. This could be the fourth
- 4:25Speaker 1: time in nine games that they're playing a backup quarterback. Um.
- 4:29Speaker 1: You know, like Miami gave him a run with with
- 4:33Speaker 1: Skylette Thompson. You know, Miami had a chance that with
- 4:37Speaker 1: Bridgewater and Thompson in that game, they had a chance
- 4:40Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter when Jack I think I think
- 4:42Speaker 1: Bridgewater played the balance of that game and they had
- 4:44Speaker 1: that crosser to Jalen Waddle over the middle and he
- 4:48Speaker 1: was in the clear and he fumbled. Remember we were
- 4:51Speaker 1: how do you remember we were here? We were together.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You're supposed to remember things together. Paying attention to the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Patriots now, No, this was after our game was over. Yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 1: celebrating a win. Perhaps. I don't know. I think Minnesota
- 5:05Speaker 1: is a good team. I think they should be better,
- 5:08Speaker 1: not not record wise, I think they should be better,
- 5:10Speaker 1: like on the field, like it seems like every game
- 5:13Speaker 1: they come down to the wire with Detroit in Chicago.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I know some of that is like, well A division
- 5:17Speaker 1: games tend to be mucked up a little bit and
- 5:19Speaker 1: you never know. But with one of those teams, we don't.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I feel like we never have a beat on. Tell
- 5:24Speaker 1: you what, whenever you pick them the eight they seem
- 5:25Speaker 1: to do. If the Vikings, I'll say this, and you
- 5:28Speaker 1: know that, I think the Patriots are average. Right if
- 5:32Speaker 1: the Vikings beat the Patriots on Thanksgiving Night, I won't
- 5:37Speaker 1: sit there and tell you the Patriots lost to a
- 5:38Speaker 1: bad team. I'll say I was wrong about Minnesota. They
- 5:41Speaker 1: were better than I thought one of those teams. Just
- 5:43Speaker 1: because right now, if I had to pick it right now,
- 5:45Speaker 1: I'm picking the Patriots to beat the Vikings on Thanksgiving
- 5:47Speaker 1: Night because I don't believe in the Vikings. Yeah, I
- 5:49Speaker 1: kind of feel the same way. A lot of talent though,
- 5:52Speaker 1: I mean, justin Jefferson getting close to look at Fred's
- 5:55Speaker 1: guy Cook. I mean, he had some some big runs
- 5:58Speaker 1: last couple of weeks. And that's provided that all those
- 6:00Speaker 1: guys back, of course, that's the that's my my, my
- 6:03Speaker 1: lone aster risk is they're good players play in the game.
- 6:06Speaker 1: There's that's you know the other thing I'm looking Paul.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's just there's not a lot of great games this weekend.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I mean, I know we got picks at the end,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and we will, in fact hurry, but what else is
- 6:15Speaker 1: there really this week? I mean, if it's just the
- 6:16Speaker 1: two of us, we won't have to hurry all that much.
- 6:18Speaker 1: We can Well, I did pronounce I did get picks
- 6:20Speaker 1: from Fred though, okay, good? Yeah, did anybody else send
- 6:23Speaker 1: them in yet? No one sentiment just Fred. Come on people.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I did pronto out you know something, so maybe we'll
- 6:28Speaker 1: have Oh you have print outs? I did pronounce. I've
- 6:31Speaker 1: got also got some things. Uh, you know, I did
- 6:33Speaker 1: a little bit of show prep, Paul. I thought, you know,
- 6:35Speaker 1: because I hate I feel like when I sit in
- 6:37Speaker 1: this host chair, I get stuck talking too much and
- 6:40Speaker 1: I start going down roads that I don't want to
- 6:42Speaker 1: be on. You know, all of a sudden, I'm on
- 6:43Speaker 1: top of Mount Cooks and I'm like, how did I
- 6:45Speaker 1: end up here? Was that a day that you host?
- 6:47Speaker 1: So that wasn't But that's just an example of, yeah,
- 6:49Speaker 1: you don't want to be on Mount Cooks or any
- 6:51Speaker 1: other mount that like, all of a sudden you realize
- 6:53Speaker 1: you're saying something that you don't really want to say.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But there's no one really here to talk and break
- 6:57Speaker 1: you or tell you you're wrong. And um, so I
- 7:00Speaker 1: do some show prep. I thought maybe a little later
- 7:01Speaker 1: when we can get into this. Um, I thought maybe
- 7:03Speaker 1: we could talk a little bit about just the twenty
- 7:05Speaker 1: twenty three free agents on the Patriots and you know,
- 7:07Speaker 1: guys that based on what we've seen in the first half,
- 7:09Speaker 1: you know, how we feel about them coming back, should
- 7:12Speaker 1: they retain them something like that maybe for you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: when things get slow later in the process, you get
- 7:17Speaker 1: Evan and yeah, all right, that's okay, Yeah, no, I'm
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm all for any any topic you want to bring up.
- 7:22Speaker 1: All right, well, we're not going to talk about that today,
- 7:26Speaker 1: but you know we do. Uh Morrell, Morrell's coming in.
- 7:29Speaker 1: It's the Marines birthday today. I don't know if that's related,
- 7:31Speaker 1: So I was going to wish the Marines, you know,
- 7:32Speaker 1: happy birthday today, and of course Veterans Day tomorrow. Matt
- 7:35Speaker 1: is a veteran as well, so uh, shout out to
- 7:37Speaker 1: all the veterans out there, and thank you and otherwise, Paul.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I mean, we got a lot of talk yesterday, we
- 7:45Speaker 1: heard from Mac. That's the one thing that I would
- 7:48Speaker 1: sort of if we could, and I know it's almost impossible,
- 7:51Speaker 1: but if we could avoid that, like avoid Mac. Yeah, no, well,
- 7:54Speaker 1: just the the the incessant is it? Mac? Is it?
- 7:59Speaker 1: The play call is it? The scheme is at the
- 8:02Speaker 1: offensive line? I think we can all agree it's all
- 8:05Speaker 1: of it. Yeah, they all deserved. As you said yesterday,
- 8:08Speaker 1: part of the blame. Pie. I don't want to I
- 8:10Speaker 1: don't want to take us down because you said you
- 8:12Speaker 1: don't want to talk about it. But I just wanted
- 8:14Speaker 1: to highlight one thing I thought was interesting Max said
- 8:16Speaker 1: yesterday was just uh. I think we got some time
- 8:19Speaker 1: today just to look at some of our bass stuff
- 8:21Speaker 1: and say, hey, this is how I see it, and
- 8:23Speaker 1: let's try it like this today at practice, and we
- 8:25Speaker 1: did some good stuff at practice, just to see how
- 8:27Speaker 1: it looks. That kind of I don't know, it just
- 8:29Speaker 1: kind of struck out to me a little bit. Basically transcript.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I want to read something that I thought was really
- 8:35Speaker 1: matt as as Mac. As Mac can get I'll have
- 8:38Speaker 1: to find it, so we'll have to keep talking, but well,
- 8:40Speaker 1: I'm going to predict you. It's something similar to what
- 8:43Speaker 1: I thought would get with a lot of these press conferences,
- 8:45Speaker 1: which is just a word salad, oh god of you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: cliches and you know, you just you don't really get anything.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And that's why that that particular quote just sit out
- 8:55Speaker 1: to me. Go ahead, fire away. Obviously as an offense,
- 8:58Speaker 1: we want to score more points, no more turnal and
- 9:00Speaker 1: all that. We can control those things and if we
- 9:03Speaker 1: can control it, then we need to take control of it. Yep,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. What I also thought that, just
- 9:12Speaker 1: to repeat, we can control those things, and if we
- 9:16Speaker 1: can control it, then we need to take control of it. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:22Speaker 1: your quarter look at that one. The other one was
- 9:24Speaker 1: communication most important, and I thought, there's an execution the
- 9:27Speaker 1: most important thing. I mean, I don't I hate going
- 9:28Speaker 1: through press conferences because I know that there's you're not
- 9:31Speaker 1: getting real answers and you're not they're not speaking from
- 9:34Speaker 1: the heart. I think they're they're processing the question and
- 9:36Speaker 1: then you know, giving you kind of the patriots affied
- 9:39Speaker 1: version of what they want. But yeah, but I just
- 9:41Speaker 1: thought that one first one I brought up was interesting,
- 9:43Speaker 1: you know, we looked at our base stuff. Let's try
- 9:45Speaker 1: it like this. I mean, you know, if you're focusing
- 9:47Speaker 1: on your base stuff here on this like one practice,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't think you have your base stuff down right
- 9:51Speaker 1: like you're. I mean, I would think you're you should
- 9:53Speaker 1: have your base stuff down by this point. I don't
- 9:55Speaker 1: want to read too much into it, but we don't
- 9:56Speaker 1: have to be labored the maac of it all. I know. No,
- 10:00Speaker 1: Like you're right to bring up because he spoke yesterday,
- 10:03Speaker 1: so you you know, I just didn't want to necessarily rehash.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But I forgot that he had spoken yesterday because it
- 10:09Speaker 1: was so riveting that I forgot about it. But yeah, no,
- 10:13Speaker 1: the fact that he addressed the media, nothing, I mean,
- 10:16Speaker 1: anything else really stand out to you. No, No, just
- 10:19Speaker 1: that I had a post COVID like coughing attack in
- 10:22Speaker 1: the middle of the press conference, which is one of
- 10:24Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, I just I was like,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I have to really cough right now, and I couldn't
- 10:28Speaker 1: let it out and my eyes started water, so I
- 10:30Speaker 1: had to like sneak out for a moment. That was
- 10:32Speaker 1: my my brief. I had a quick you've had on
- 10:35Speaker 1: felagra mass? Yeah, yeah, there was. Yeah. If I had
- 10:38Speaker 1: realized they were that close to taking a break, I
- 10:40Speaker 1: probably would have stuck it out. But I like got
- 10:43Speaker 1: up on TV and just started walking out as as
- 10:46Speaker 1: Felger went to break. It's been a long time since
- 10:48Speaker 1: I've had to stifle a cough like that, and like,
- 10:50Speaker 1: oh this is and especially now in this like current
- 10:53Speaker 1: state of like COVID and stuff, where like it's still
- 10:55Speaker 1: like somebody starts coughing all over the place and then
- 10:57Speaker 1: you know, you get to look like the side eye
- 10:59Speaker 1: and like, all right, you know, I tested negative. There's
- 11:02Speaker 1: nothing to worry about. I mean, I'm not feeling great, yes,
- 11:05Speaker 1: but yeah, you know, we got jobs to do, you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: like we had, I had shows to do this week.
- 11:11Speaker 1: You know, you can't just like have a show not
- 11:14Speaker 1: beyond it. Nope. And that's well and apparently, I mean
- 11:16Speaker 1: we're here, but no one else is yet. I mean,
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, Fred Fred's in Germany an excuse now, And
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm sure the girls are out there working somewhere doing something.
- 11:25Speaker 1: And like I said, Evan would would will be down here.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Just had to listen to Ma Patricia. So we did
- 11:28Speaker 1: hear from some of the coaches today, not all of them. Yeah,
- 11:31Speaker 1: anything stand out to you today. I did not listen
- 11:33Speaker 1: to him. I was so me and Evan cut it
- 11:35Speaker 1: up and he was on the offensive coaches and I
- 11:38Speaker 1: went with the defensive coaches. So I listened to Steve
- 11:40Speaker 1: Belichick and uh, gerrab Mayo, and I thought there was
- 11:43Speaker 1: some fun stuff from Gerob Mayo. You know, the media
- 11:46Speaker 1: continues to ask about calling out the plays, um, and
- 11:49Speaker 1: so they asked Gerard about that. Who I would think
- 11:51Speaker 1: gerrab Mayo, of all these guys, is probably a guy
- 11:54Speaker 1: that was one of those guys calling out the plays
- 11:55Speaker 1: back when he back when he was involved. But um,
- 11:58Speaker 1: he kind of went into not not depth, but you know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: just talking about you know, different calls that you might have,
- 12:04Speaker 1: and you know, if they're yelling out something like h gosh,
- 12:07Speaker 1: what was it? I'm I'm blanking right now, Uh, something
- 12:10Speaker 1: like rita or words to start with R, and you know,
- 12:13Speaker 1: and then you know, if they're calling something like airplane,
- 12:15Speaker 1: you're probably thinking it's a pass, you know, but then
- 12:17Speaker 1: you also will have kill words. You'll have oh there
- 12:20Speaker 1: he is. You'll have kill words as well. So you know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: if I say brown in front of it, then that
- 12:25Speaker 1: means don't listen to what I'm saying. Um, but his
- 12:28Speaker 1: h But the interesting thing was somebody asked him who
- 12:31Speaker 1: was your favorite to go up against, and he said
- 12:34Speaker 1: Tom Brady In practice, he said, you know, that was
- 12:36Speaker 1: a lot of fun trying to challenge him and how
- 12:38Speaker 1: competitive he was, and you know, it's a daily thing
- 12:41Speaker 1: of of trying to, you know, fool him and him
- 12:44Speaker 1: trying to get around us. So, UM, I don't know.
- 12:46Speaker 1: That was a little bit. And Evan is here, Evan,
- 12:48Speaker 1: welcome to the show. Hello, Hello, we got a three
- 12:52Speaker 1: a three man crew here today. Uh, you were on
- 12:54Speaker 1: the offensive coaches though, Um, I'm assuming you got a
- 12:57Speaker 1: little Maddie p and joe J. We did Joey j
- 13:00Speaker 1: and Maddie p um and for your question today made
- 13:06Speaker 1: Patricia always got a big smile on. I mean, I
- 13:14Speaker 1: think some people try to get some real answers out
- 13:18Speaker 1: of Judge and Patricia. Phil Perry asked Judge about the route,
- 13:22Speaker 1: timing and just the overall rhythm of the passing offense
- 13:27Speaker 1: and things like that and kind of thought. Judge took
- 13:30Speaker 1: a little bit of a cop out answer and he
- 13:32Speaker 1: was like, well, different plays are designed to hit at
- 13:34Speaker 1: different times. So I don't really know what you're talking
- 13:37Speaker 1: about specifically, and stuff like that. I thought Bidard kind
- 13:42Speaker 1: of went after not alf went after rephrase that. Bdard
- 13:47Speaker 1: asked Patricia about Max progression and he said, look, you know,
- 13:53Speaker 1: fans are going to hear you say that, Matt that
- 13:56Speaker 1: Max gotten better and be like where, how like what
- 13:59Speaker 1: based off of what? Right? And uh, you know, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: think he kind of pointed to some of the similar
- 14:05Speaker 1: things that Belichick did, which are you know, less turnovers
- 14:08Speaker 1: in recent weeks and managing the game and things like that,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and uh, yeah, he's not gonna throw his quarterback under
- 14:16Speaker 1: the bus and say, oh, he hasn't been playing well,
- 14:18Speaker 1: so obviously he's gonna say some of those things. But
- 14:22Speaker 1: I thought they probably the most interesting quote that we got.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I asked Troy Brown about the route spacing on offense,
- 14:29Speaker 1: and as a receivers coach, obviously that's kind of his
- 14:33Speaker 1: number one thing probably right now on his list, and
- 14:36Speaker 1: I could I could tell it was something that has
- 14:38Speaker 1: been is being talked about a ton within the walls
- 14:41Speaker 1: this week, and he just said that they need to
- 14:44Speaker 1: look like a professional football team on offense. And when
- 14:49Speaker 1: he said that, I kind of you know, your ears
- 14:52Speaker 1: perk up and you're like, yiche, I mean a professional
- 14:56Speaker 1: football team. You know, that's an indictment, not really what
- 15:00Speaker 1: I was expecting him to say, to go that far. So,
- 15:04Speaker 1: needless to say, the issues with the timing or the
- 15:08Speaker 1: spacing of the passing game right now, I think the
- 15:11Speaker 1: coaches are obviously saying way way worse to the players
- 15:16Speaker 1: about how they looked on Sunday to the Colts against
- 15:19Speaker 1: the Colts and what we're saying on this show or
- 15:22Speaker 1: what you're here anywhere else, because there it's clear that
- 15:26Speaker 1: Troy Brown is very unhappy with the way that receivers
- 15:29Speaker 1: are running routes right now. It's really interesting. That is interesting.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Um well, I just I don't really know what start
- 15:37Speaker 1: because you only get out you're only getting production out
- 15:39Speaker 1: of Jacoby Myers right now, and that's like I can understand. Yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 1: just the overall frustration of no one else is really
- 15:45Speaker 1: producing right now, and as we kind of said, it's
- 15:48Speaker 1: it feels like we're we just know now we can't
- 15:52Speaker 1: dissect this whole engine and figure out exactly, you know,
- 15:55Speaker 1: the three things. It's a little bit of everything. And
- 15:57Speaker 1: that's that seems like where we're going to leave this
- 15:59Speaker 1: conversation off. What makes it hard because it's hard to
- 16:02Speaker 1: fix it if basically everything needs to be addressed, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: all the things that haven't talked about yesterday, with the
- 16:08Speaker 1: schemes and the route combinations and the timing and then
- 16:12Speaker 1: the blocking up front and all that stuff, and Mac
- 16:16Speaker 1: himself is not seeing it as well for whatever reason,
- 16:19Speaker 1: He's looking one way and not the other. The running
- 16:22Speaker 1: game has sort of stuck in neutral all of a
- 16:24Speaker 1: sudden since that Detroit game. It's really kind of been
- 16:27Speaker 1: black ever since. So it'd be easy to just say, well,
- 16:31Speaker 1: Max got to play better. Mac plays better, the defense
- 16:33Speaker 1: will pay Yeah, and largely that's true. The quarterback plays well,
- 16:37Speaker 1: you know, everything else will look a little bit better,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but it's hard for him to play discernibly better if
- 16:43Speaker 1: all those other things don't get addressed. Yeah. Yeah. The
- 16:46Speaker 1: two things I would point to are one blocking, Like,
- 16:49Speaker 1: if you block better, then everything's gonna look better. The
- 16:52Speaker 1: run game is gonna look better, the pass game is
- 16:54Speaker 1: gonna look better if Mac has more time and is
- 16:56Speaker 1: more comfortable in the pocket. So stabilizing the offensive line
- 17:00Speaker 1: and settling on a five man combination, I think is
- 17:03Speaker 1: really key during this week. Now, injuries play a role, right,
- 17:06Speaker 1: David Andrews gets a concussion and he can't play, so
- 17:09Speaker 1: you have to put in a backup at that point
- 17:10Speaker 1: at center. But Dante Scarnecki always talks about and I
- 17:14Speaker 1: know they have it up in the offensive line room
- 17:16Speaker 1: on the wall, seeing it through the same set of eyes.
- 17:18Speaker 1: That's like their big thing in the old line room
- 17:21Speaker 1: is that all five guys have to see the protection,
- 17:25Speaker 1: see the blocking scheme through the same set of eyes. Well,
- 17:28Speaker 1: it's hard to do that when guys are coming in
- 17:30Speaker 1: and out and there's no chemistry and there's no continuity
- 17:33Speaker 1: up there. So at this point, we know David Andrews
- 17:36Speaker 1: is coming back. He's back at practice, cleared from concussion
- 17:40Speaker 1: protocol it seems, and will be back against the Jets.
- 17:42Speaker 1: So put your what you think is your best five
- 17:46Speaker 1: out there on the offensive line. And just like last
- 17:49Speaker 1: year when Ted Carriss ended up coming in for Unwinny,
- 17:51Speaker 1: when everybody was like what the hell is going on,
- 17:53Speaker 1: they stuck with that five man combination the rest of
- 17:56Speaker 1: the way, and that's what you gotta do. The second
- 17:59Speaker 1: thing about basing, I think goes into another conversation. But
- 18:04Speaker 1: I'm interested to hear what you guys think is their
- 18:06Speaker 1: best five man combination, because that's a difficult thing, a
- 18:10Speaker 1: good topic. Mike, Yeah, there we go. We got one.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think I'd go back to I'd go
- 18:14Speaker 1: back to Win. I'd go back to what you started with.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I mean, I I you know, as much as I
- 18:18Speaker 1: want to think that Yannika just as the great hope
- 18:21Speaker 1: to save the right tackle spot, I just I think,
- 18:24Speaker 1: coming back out of the gate, go back to what
- 18:26Speaker 1: you originally started with. I mean, would you give any
- 18:28Speaker 1: thought to flipping the tackles again? I think I think so.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Based off of PFF's charting, Trent Brown right now has
- 18:37Speaker 1: the hardest assignment of any tackle in football. So they're
- 18:41Speaker 1: basically leaving him one on one on the back side
- 18:43Speaker 1: of every single play, and they're just trying to help everybody, right,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and they're just trusting him to block one on one
- 18:50Speaker 1: every single time they drop back the pass, and he's
- 18:52Speaker 1: done largely a good job with it. So to move
- 18:55Speaker 1: Win back over there, you have to reconfigure how you're
- 18:58Speaker 1: distributing the blockers because they're doing that to save Cole
- 19:02Speaker 1: Strange right, Like they're doing Cole Strange going to help
- 19:04Speaker 1: Isaiah Win, right right, They're doing that so that David
- 19:07Speaker 1: Andrews can help. Yeah, that's probably a good reason not
- 19:10Speaker 1: to in and of itself, because I do think Trent
- 19:13Speaker 1: Brown's a better player than Isaiah Win. I mean, obviously
- 19:16Speaker 1: this year he's playing better. There's no argument there. But
- 19:18Speaker 1: I think in general, I think I would just coming
- 19:21Speaker 1: real quick. I mean, the thing that scares me just
- 19:23Speaker 1: is winning strange next to each other. I mean, I
- 19:26Speaker 1: think defenses are looking at that being like, oh boy,
- 19:28Speaker 1: let's go get those guys. Do you think, um? And
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think Greg wrote about this earlier in the week
- 19:33Speaker 1: with regard to Cole Strange, do you guys think that
- 19:36Speaker 1: Bill is maybe not helping him as bunch by taking
- 19:39Speaker 1: him out like just you guys kind of? I think
- 19:40Speaker 1: that's another reason hit the reset buttons and flows and
- 19:44Speaker 1: understand there's going to be some struggles. Yeah, I mean,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I I think so, I mean, what else, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 1: what else can you do? I mean, I you know,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I I do like the facts. Sometimes they don't force
- 19:53Speaker 1: a point, and you know to that you have a
- 19:56Speaker 1: first round left guard. He's not playing well. I'm sure
- 19:58Speaker 1: there's you know, some kind of motivation to leave him
- 20:01Speaker 1: in there to be like if we pull them, everyone's
- 20:03Speaker 1: gonna kive his crap. But we missed on our first
- 20:05Speaker 1: round pick um, So I mean I do give them
- 20:07Speaker 1: credit for you know, pulling a week link. But I
- 20:09Speaker 1: think you're right. I think it's a management thing of
- 20:12Speaker 1: you know, keeping a young player on, you know, mate,
- 20:14Speaker 1: letting the young player know that there's going to be
- 20:16Speaker 1: ebbs and flows, and you know, trying to give him
- 20:18Speaker 1: like we kind of talked about with Mac when Mac
- 20:19Speaker 1: would come out and you know, maybe he's going to
- 20:21Speaker 1: get a bigger picture of things and you know that
- 20:24Speaker 1: that will allow him then to you know, get over
- 20:26Speaker 1: some of the stuff that he's doing. I don't know.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I mean, I I to be honest, I think it's
- 20:30Speaker 1: going to continue to be up and down with Cold
- 20:32Speaker 1: Strange until you get him a full off season and
- 20:34Speaker 1: start to you know, put a little weight on him,
- 20:36Speaker 1: get them a little bit stronger, have him, you know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: trying your I have higher expectations in year two, um,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but I think overall my expectations right now are just
- 20:44Speaker 1: it's really hard for me to say. I think it's
- 20:47Speaker 1: all gonna work out in the second eight games. I
- 20:48Speaker 1: think they're going to figure it out. I just I'm
- 20:50Speaker 1: struggling to get there right now. And I don't want
- 20:52Speaker 1: to say that that means that I think they're dead meat.
- 20:55Speaker 1: But I don't think they did meet well. I do
- 20:57Speaker 1: think it's weird that to Forrest Buckner going around Cole
- 21:01Speaker 1: Strange and forcing a little bit of an errand throw
- 21:04Speaker 1: on third down was like the breaking point for them
- 21:06Speaker 1: with Cole Stranger because it keeps on. That has been something.
- 21:11Speaker 1: His overaggressiveness or his eagerness to come out and just
- 21:14Speaker 1: smack the guy across from him has been something that's
- 21:17Speaker 1: been going on since Week one with Cole Strange. If
- 21:19Speaker 1: there's one thing that I'd have to point to and
- 21:21Speaker 1: say this is something that he's got to fix, it's Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 1: he's just coming out of his stance and he's trying
- 21:29Speaker 1: to just go right into people, and sometimes they get
- 21:33Speaker 1: use it against him. They use it against him, right, Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 1: And that's been going on all seasons. So why why
- 21:39Speaker 1: was Sunday against an all Pro defensive tackle into Forrest Buckner,
- 21:43Speaker 1: who beats every point, who beats everybody that he lines
- 21:47Speaker 1: up across from every week, Like, why was that the
- 21:50Speaker 1: point where they were like, Nope, can't have it right?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Even tie it back to the Jets game too. I
- 21:54Speaker 1: mean it's the same. It's kind of like another players,
- 21:57Speaker 1: like playing like a defensive player of the year, right, right, Um,
- 22:01Speaker 1: that's a good point. But I think I like the point,
- 22:04Speaker 1: But I also would wonder about the coaching and how
- 22:08Speaker 1: much if you're you're pointing to something very specific that
- 22:11Speaker 1: he's doing. Yeah, right, so let's say, for argument's sake,
- 22:13Speaker 1: that this is what they're hammering to him and he
- 22:16Speaker 1: continues to do it wrong, So what does that make him?
- 22:19Speaker 1: Mike a repeater? Every repeater, So at some point the
- 22:22Speaker 1: only way that you can get it through to these
- 22:23Speaker 1: guys is to take away playing time. Sure so, and
- 22:27Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know what that's happening. I'm
- 22:28Speaker 1: just right well that I had a ton of conversation
- 22:31Speaker 1: with him at his locker and like week two or three,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and I was like, how do you balance being aggressive
- 22:39Speaker 1: but not too aggressive? And he looked at me and
- 22:41Speaker 1: he was like, that's the number one question. And I
- 22:44Speaker 1: was like, yeah, like you know that so clearly that's
- 22:46Speaker 1: so maybe he's just struggling with that, and that's the
- 22:48Speaker 1: coaching point, right you know, that's that's the thing that
- 22:51Speaker 1: they've really been harping on all the way back to September.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So at right tackle, though, I do think you have
- 22:58Speaker 1: to take a long look at it and say what's
- 23:02Speaker 1: more important to us, Mike on one, who's a long
- 23:04Speaker 1: term development or getting this thing back on the tracks
- 23:09Speaker 1: this season, because he's the best right tackle on the roster,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and I don't think it's particularly close. Now. Maybe you
- 23:16Speaker 1: look at it and say, we want to make right
- 23:19Speaker 1: guard is home. We've moved him around for the first
- 23:22Speaker 1: two years. We want to start stop messing with him.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Maybe they look at it and say, we have a
- 23:26Speaker 1: pocket quarterback and we'd rather the shelf right the interior
- 23:29Speaker 1: three be solid and worry about the tackles. Maybe that's
- 23:32Speaker 1: the way that they look at it. But for a
- 23:34Speaker 1: month now, right tackle has been a turnstyle for them
- 23:38Speaker 1: that has killed their passing game. In a lot of
- 23:40Speaker 1: situations in the first half against the Colts, they have
- 23:44Speaker 1: big plays down the field open for mac Jones to hit,
- 23:48Speaker 1: and the pressure off the right side is in his
- 23:51Speaker 1: face and he can't either can't throw it or he
- 23:54Speaker 1: airmails the thrower or Mandre on the wheel route like
- 23:56Speaker 1: this is all because the right tackle. So I think
- 23:59Speaker 1: that guard is going to stabilize itself with David Andrews
- 24:02Speaker 1: coming back. I really do. It's that tackle spot that
- 24:06Speaker 1: there just doesn't seem to be an answer on this
- 24:08Speaker 1: roster for that spot right now. Because Marcus Kennon, even
- 24:11Speaker 1: before he got hurt, gave up eight hurries against the Jets,
- 24:14Speaker 1: so he was he wasn't playing well at all. Right, Yeah,
- 24:16Speaker 1: I mean I think there's there's a lot that mean
- 24:19Speaker 1: that to me remains I think we all one of
- 24:21Speaker 1: the few things that on this show we all agree
- 24:23Speaker 1: on is that's the biggest problem, right and they got
- 24:26Speaker 1: to figure that out. I don't know if you move
- 24:29Speaker 1: Wit inside and you get Freddie's you know, pro Bowl
- 24:32Speaker 1: guard thing going, I don't know if that would happen
- 24:35Speaker 1: like at right guard. Like I mean, that's what's a
- 24:37Speaker 1: little bit intriguing to me of just you know, maybe
- 24:39Speaker 1: I think flipping the tackles back, you're kind of too
- 24:42Speaker 1: just too unsecure on the left side with you know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: with Win and Strange over there. But if you were
- 24:46Speaker 1: to flop maybe put on when you at right tackle,
- 24:49Speaker 1: slide Win in the right guard. You know, then that's
- 24:52Speaker 1: sort of the configuration I would like to see, yeah
- 24:54Speaker 1: is Yeah, make a move Win at right guard because
- 24:57Speaker 1: his issues at right tackler that his footwork it's all
- 25:00Speaker 1: thrown off because he's switching sides. But on the inside
- 25:03Speaker 1: you don't need to get to that landmark as far
- 25:05Speaker 1: out as you do at tackle, so he's not having
- 25:07Speaker 1: to explode out of his stance and cut off the
- 25:10Speaker 1: corners at right guard, so he doesn't have to get
- 25:13Speaker 1: as much depth out of his stance on the interior
- 25:15Speaker 1: as he does on the tackle spot. So that would
- 25:19Speaker 1: that would be what I would do. I would put
- 25:21Speaker 1: Trent Brown at left tackle, colestrange guard, Andrew's at center,
- 25:25Speaker 1: Win at right guard, on Whennu at right tackle. Like,
- 25:28Speaker 1: I think that's your best five configuration. But they're just
- 25:31Speaker 1: messing so much with on Whenny again that I just
- 25:33Speaker 1: don't know if they'll go there, and I think they
- 25:36Speaker 1: might rather just roll with Yadney could just or Marcus
- 25:39Speaker 1: Cannon when he comes back, and try to work around
- 25:43Speaker 1: the fact that they have a hole at right tackle
- 25:46Speaker 1: versus sharing up that hole and maybe creating a whole
- 25:48Speaker 1: at right guard. Can can I can we transition into
- 25:51Speaker 1: some fullback talk too? I know that's been another point.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Evan and I were kind of talking about it. I
- 25:54Speaker 1: think Greg was saying, don't you guys talk about punch
- 25:59Speaker 1: and already stuff? No? But I but Ard, I think
- 26:02Speaker 1: it was when somebody who said, oh, they need the fullback,
- 26:04Speaker 1: and you know, and and I don't know if like schematically,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I feel like they need the fullback, but I the
- 26:10Speaker 1: one thing I do think that this team kind of
- 26:12Speaker 1: lacks is attitude from like the tight ends and the
- 26:16Speaker 1: and the full back, Like there isn't really a gritty,
- 26:19Speaker 1: mean blocker. And I know this is like a stupid
- 26:21Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, character thing, but I just
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't think that they're a tough team. With their
- 26:26Speaker 1: skill position players. There's nobody like I mean, Gronk was
- 26:29Speaker 1: Gronk Devilin was, you know, just even even you know,
- 26:32Speaker 1: when you had what's his face the last full back?
- 26:35Speaker 1: You know, it just it's an element of toughness to
- 26:37Speaker 1: the offense. And and I've been watching and I think
- 26:39Speaker 1: Hunter Henry and John who Smith have had some moments
- 26:42Speaker 1: as blockers, maybe fewer than than good, more more bad
- 26:45Speaker 1: than good, um, but neither one of those guys is
- 26:49Speaker 1: a dog blocker kind of guys. I don't know, it's
- 26:51Speaker 1: just it kind of feeds into overall. It just kind
- 26:53Speaker 1: of feeds. That feels to me the offense is a
- 26:55Speaker 1: little bit soft. I do wonder you know less about
- 26:57Speaker 1: the mentality. I like get what you're saying more. I
- 27:01Speaker 1: want to wonder more about what Evan was talking about
- 27:04Speaker 1: yesterday in terms of the impact of you know, sending
- 27:07Speaker 1: a fullback through the middle. I think that's how you explained, yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: when you were talking about play action and stuff like
- 27:12Speaker 1: the under center stuff without a fullback is giving them
- 27:16Speaker 1: all sorts of problems because the difference between a fullback
- 27:19Speaker 1: and a tight end is that the fullback can go
- 27:20Speaker 1: either direction right. So the tight end is lined up
- 27:23Speaker 1: on one side of the formation. So you either have
- 27:27Speaker 1: even if you're in twelve, you either have a two
- 27:28Speaker 1: formations I really man surface on one side or a
- 27:33Speaker 1: three man surface on one side. But that tight end
- 27:35Speaker 1: is basically stuck on that side of the formation. Whereas
- 27:39Speaker 1: a fullback has a two way go right. He could
- 27:41Speaker 1: go left or he could go right, so you're able
- 27:43Speaker 1: to make surfaces, you know, three man becomes a four
- 27:46Speaker 1: man or a three man becomes a four man on
- 27:48Speaker 1: the right side, and that allows you to be able
- 27:50Speaker 1: to block some of these things and get hat on
- 27:52Speaker 1: a hat a little bit easier. It's a little simplistic,
- 27:54Speaker 1: but did you ever watch a game and you know,
- 27:59Speaker 1: you'll they'll do something. Times they'll do those like the
- 28:00Speaker 1: read options and whatnot, and you're like they fake it
- 28:04Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, if he gave it to him,
- 28:07Speaker 1: like there was a huge hole there, right. It's it's
- 28:10Speaker 1: kind of like that though, like the lead fullback sometimes
- 28:15Speaker 1: it's met because they're not as willing to say, oh no,
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's not coming this way, like someone's going to address
- 28:21Speaker 1: that fullback and just not ignore them. So I do
- 28:24Speaker 1: think that there's an element of when you want to
- 28:27Speaker 1: try to set those plays up, it's a little bit
- 28:29Speaker 1: easier to do it, you know. And I'm not a
- 28:31Speaker 1: huge fullback and got you you know, I'm not like
- 28:36Speaker 1: this is math though, right, it's literally just math math exactly,
- 28:39Speaker 1: And it's not like I'm saying like, because I'm not
- 28:42Speaker 1: a huge fullback guy, I don't need to have a
- 28:43Speaker 1: fullback on the field. Eighty seven percent of the snaps, right,
- 28:46Speaker 1: But to just go from what they've done the last
- 28:49Speaker 1: couple of years and then just decide we're not going
- 28:52Speaker 1: to have a fullback as part of our offense this year,
- 28:54Speaker 1: to the point where they told Johnson that and they
- 28:58Speaker 1: just completely changed in tirely the way they I thought
- 29:01Speaker 1: that was a massive alteration that didn't need to be
- 29:05Speaker 1: made like that, like black and white, right, And if
- 29:07Speaker 1: you're gonna make it, then make it like you can't
- 29:10Speaker 1: be an under center team without a fullback, Like I'm sorry,
- 29:13Speaker 1: It's just it's really hard to do. And certain teams
- 29:16Speaker 1: that are really good at scheming it, like the Rams.
- 29:18Speaker 1: The Rams are an eleven personnel team. They don't use
- 29:21Speaker 1: a fullback, and they're just really good scheming up the
- 29:25Speaker 1: run game without one by using motion in different types
- 29:28Speaker 1: of blocks like that. But what they're asking the old
- 29:31Speaker 1: line or the tight ends in the old line to
- 29:33Speaker 1: do on these run plays from under center is basically
- 29:36Speaker 1: they need to hit a combination block somewhere somewhere. A
- 29:40Speaker 1: guard has to hit a guy on the line of
- 29:42Speaker 1: scrimmage and then go up to the linebacker level, because
- 29:46Speaker 1: otherwise the linebacker is just unblocked at the second level
- 29:49Speaker 1: of the defense. And if that linebacker recognizes run like
- 29:53Speaker 1: Shack Leonard being in the huddle right, and he recognizes
- 29:56Speaker 1: that it's run, then he's triggering downhill so quickly that
- 29:59Speaker 1: you can't make that combination block. So that's the issue
- 30:03Speaker 1: that they're having, is that they're running from under center,
- 30:06Speaker 1: they're running into four guys on the defense, and they
- 30:10Speaker 1: have three guys to block four and there's just not
- 30:13Speaker 1: enough blockers on that side unless you really get those
- 30:16Speaker 1: combination blocks up to the second level, which is hard
- 30:19Speaker 1: to do. So so you think I don't listen to you.
- 30:21Speaker 1: I listened to you. Yeah, it's it's really an interesting
- 30:25Speaker 1: Uh you know. What I was saying was if you're
- 30:28Speaker 1: not going to have a fullback, then you need to
- 30:29Speaker 1: be a gun team. You need to be in the shotgun.
- 30:32Speaker 1: And I do think that was what they planned on.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Right then the offensive line fell apart, and then then
- 30:38Speaker 1: all and then the quarterback got hurt, and they started
- 30:41Speaker 1: to do some other things because they had to, and
- 30:43Speaker 1: then they had some success with some of those other things,
- 30:45Speaker 1: and they were like, oh, maybe we were a little hasty.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Now you're kind of left without the personnel to do
- 30:52Speaker 1: what ostensibly you've done best this year. It doesn't even
- 30:55Speaker 1: fit the quarterback right. The quarterback is Mac Jones's numbers
- 30:59Speaker 1: from under center going back to the start of last season.
- 31:01Speaker 1: I pulled these earlier this week because I made this
- 31:03Speaker 1: exact point in a post that I wrote about the offense.
- 31:06Speaker 1: He's been a bad under center passer for two years now.
- 31:09Speaker 1: It's just not something he's comfortable with because he didn't
- 31:12Speaker 1: do it much at Alabama. And he's a spread quarterback,
- 31:15Speaker 1: so you don't have a fullback. You have a quarterback
- 31:17Speaker 1: that's more comfortable in the gun. Like. This is why
- 31:20Speaker 1: I always talk about RPOs all the time. What are
- 31:22Speaker 1: we doing right? Like? This is why I always harp
- 31:24Speaker 1: on RPOs is because if you're going to be a
- 31:26Speaker 1: gun team, then you have to run RPOs. That's that's
- 31:29Speaker 1: the way that you get play action on. You've had
- 31:31Speaker 1: the first half hour for the RPO cartis you lose
- 31:35Speaker 1: thirty one minutes and got it well? Eight five five
- 31:38Speaker 1: Pats five hundred. Love to hear from you guys today.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Send us an email, web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 31:44Speaker 1: We're finding right Matt Morrell is that Matt. Happy birthday
- 31:46Speaker 1: to the Marines, of course, thank you, thank and Happy
- 31:48Speaker 1: Veterans Day tomorrow to thank you for the service Corps
- 31:52Speaker 1: Green today. If you can't tell, here you go. I
- 31:54Speaker 1: figured you were out just getting wasted before the show
- 31:57Speaker 1: was or something. I know. I know the celebrations get
- 31:59Speaker 1: a little crazy there for the Marines. I'll be tonight
- 32:02Speaker 1: drinking during Black Panther. I thought I thought I was
- 32:04Speaker 1: gonna say something like that. We couldn't get hammered. We're
- 32:07Speaker 1: busy protecting the country, right, that's what they do. Well,
- 32:10Speaker 1: the only way to protect the country's hammered. Well, let's
- 32:13Speaker 1: let's hop to Melvin real quick here to kick things off. Hey, Melvin,
- 32:16Speaker 1: what's going on? That's up, y'all? Y's going on Thursday show?
- 32:21Speaker 1: Paul heard that he's still with my stuff. I did.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I guess I was gonna say it anyway, but um,
- 32:29Speaker 1: general question, I guess just getting back to I got
- 32:32Speaker 1: a question about Justin Herbert. Do you think that he's
- 32:36Speaker 1: in a situation and I'm similar to like Philip Rivers,
- 32:40Speaker 1: that really good quarterback. Whatever it is like that he's
- 32:43Speaker 1: in the AFC looking up with a couple of pretenders
- 32:46Speaker 1: with the Court of Kansas City and the Bills that
- 32:49Speaker 1: he'll be a really good quarterback. But I don't know
- 32:53Speaker 1: if he ever get over the hump because the other
- 32:57Speaker 1: people around him. Even he's he's like the second here
- 33:00Speaker 1: right with the Lamar Jacksons and maybe even Joe Burrow
- 33:04Speaker 1: that little rank, but I don't know if they ever
- 33:07Speaker 1: have the supporting cast around enough. I know what you're all.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I wonder. I wonder about him. I think he's obviously
- 33:15Speaker 1: ridiculously talented, but I do wonder two things. What if
- 33:19Speaker 1: the Chargers are just one of those teams that always
- 33:22Speaker 1: finds a way to get you know, six or seven
- 33:24Speaker 1: guys that are really important hurt, which they do every year,
- 33:28Speaker 1: and it's happened again, um hamstring. But beyond that, with
- 33:34Speaker 1: with just Herbert himself, and I will be fully up front.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I love watching the guy play. I think he's amazingly talented.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I just feel like there might be something missing and
- 33:46Speaker 1: I go back to Oregon with him, like I watched him.
- 33:52Speaker 1: You don't watch college football, so Barth Barth would be
- 33:54Speaker 1: able to answer this question. I watched a lot of
- 33:56Speaker 1: Herbert the very first the very first game of his
- 34:00Speaker 1: last year at Oregon. They played at Auburn. Yeah, Oregon
- 34:06Speaker 1: was as much better than Auburn as a team could be.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Herbert looked absolutely dominant. You look up at the end
- 34:13Speaker 1: of the game and they lost. Some guys just have
- 34:16Speaker 1: that like I'm better than you, my team's better than yours.
- 34:21Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, your team somehow
- 34:23Speaker 1: had more points than mine. And I'm not saying it
- 34:25Speaker 1: was Herbert's fault, because I don't think it was. I
- 34:27Speaker 1: remember the game and it wasn't Herbert's fault that they lost.
- 34:30Speaker 1: But things kind of happen. It's kind of anti Brady.
- 34:33Speaker 1: It's the anti Brady. Yeah, like weird things kind of happened.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And I watch Herbert play and I'm like, that's not
- 34:40Speaker 1: a nine and eight team, Like he's too good to
- 34:43Speaker 1: be like eight and nine, nine and eight every year? Why?
- 34:46Speaker 1: And I don't think it's necessarily him, but I just
- 34:49Speaker 1: think bad things happened. Do you think that coaching style.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I think the coaching style is part of it. Yeah,
- 34:55Speaker 1: along the lines of the bad things, he actually leads
- 34:57Speaker 1: the league and pick sixes since entering the NFL. I
- 35:00Speaker 1: think we got one. And it's just kind of like
- 35:02Speaker 1: one of those things where that guy leads a league
- 35:06Speaker 1: in pick six is like, he's ridiculously talented. How does
- 35:09Speaker 1: Justin Herbert? How does he make in these mistakes? Right? Like,
- 35:12Speaker 1: it's just it's weird. And he's also this year near
- 35:16Speaker 1: the bottom of the league and average depth of target,
- 35:18Speaker 1: so like one of the biggest arms in the league
- 35:20Speaker 1: is not throwing the ball down. This year in particular,
- 35:22Speaker 1: has been a little bit different. He's lost, you know,
- 35:24Speaker 1: he's lost some of his pillars up from him, hasn't
- 35:27Speaker 1: played in forever. Keenan Allen is, Yeah, he's been a
- 35:29Speaker 1: bit bit part because he's been out all year. Um,
- 35:33Speaker 1: they've lost, you know, they've lost, they tried to redo
- 35:37Speaker 1: the defense, they've lost some of the pieces there. You
- 35:39Speaker 1: know around here everybody points to jay Z Jackson. It's
- 35:43Speaker 1: been a mess. But there's still like five and three, right,
- 35:46Speaker 1: so they're still kind of in it. Um. I don't know.
- 35:50Speaker 1: I really like Justin Herbert, but I don't know how
- 35:53Speaker 1: many years I'm gonna go before I sound like one
- 35:56Speaker 1: of those guys that just refuses to admit that maybe
- 35:59Speaker 1: he's not as good as I thought, because I just
- 36:01Speaker 1: in the just blown away by the ability. Philip Rivers
- 36:05Speaker 1: is a good calm. I mean, he's obviously the quarterback
- 36:08Speaker 1: that that was there before. But but if he can
- 36:10Speaker 1: do what Philip Rivers did, that, I'll say then he
- 36:12Speaker 1: fulfilled it. Because Philip Rivers was really good for a
- 36:15Speaker 1: lot of years and they got to conference. They never
- 36:17Speaker 1: got over the hump. This guy can't get into the playoffs. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:21Speaker 1: that's fair. He'll keep getting chances though with Hey, thanks Melvin.
- 36:24Speaker 1: He's got to keep getting chances though. I mean just
- 36:26Speaker 1: with the arm, the size, I mean, this throw that
- 36:29Speaker 1: made quarterback and I know, like this is These are
- 36:32Speaker 1: the kinds of things like when I argue with my
- 36:34Speaker 1: boy Felger, Like Felger doesn't like arm talent. He scops
- 36:37Speaker 1: at that kind of Oh yeah, yesterday he was arguing
- 36:39Speaker 1: Drew bledsoever. I don't bring it up, Evan. You know
- 36:44Speaker 1: it was all for the audience of one. I swear
- 36:47Speaker 1: to god he was trolling me. Yeah. Um, but I
- 36:51Speaker 1: oh yeah, I had my my my text guys, my
- 36:54Speaker 1: my baseball guys, um text me. And because I've never
- 36:57Speaker 1: seen Paul so mad, I thought he was to go
- 37:00Speaker 1: over the table at fellgro And if I wasn't like
- 37:02Speaker 1: fighting a cold, I may have um Like he actually
- 37:08Speaker 1: said the following sentence in the middle of the argument
- 37:10Speaker 1: that he was having with me. The only thing that
- 37:12Speaker 1: Bledsoe did better than mac Jones's throw except play quarterback.
- 37:20Speaker 1: He's a quarterback. They both quarterbacks. The only thing that
- 37:23Speaker 1: the guy I argued for was better at just passing
- 37:25Speaker 1: the ball, like just that, just that, that's the only thing.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Not running. Yeah, Herbert makes some throws where like he's
- 37:32Speaker 1: on the far hash and he throws it into the
- 37:34Speaker 1: cover two hole on the opposite side of the field.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Had one about three weeks ago that they kept showing
- 37:38Speaker 1: and I'm just like, oh my god, are you kidding?
- 37:41Speaker 1: And that's why I think like he's there for the
- 37:43Speaker 1: long haul. Yeah, like like some some players, some quarterbacks,
- 37:46Speaker 1: I get the debate. I mean, Daniel Jones maybe one.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I know he's a can be debated, but it's but
- 37:53Speaker 1: you just you look at Herbert and you're like this guy,
- 37:55Speaker 1: like how do you let that guy? And I also
- 37:57Speaker 1: don't discount the rib problem too, which like think about
- 38:01Speaker 1: playing quarterback with broken you know whatever. I just look
- 38:03Speaker 1: at her actually cartilage or whatever was what what? What?
- 38:07Speaker 1: What does Josh Allen have that that Herbert doesn't from
- 38:10Speaker 1: like a physical tools perspective, right, So I would argue
- 38:14Speaker 1: that Herbert's probably a better athlete. Not to take anything
- 38:16Speaker 1: away from Josh Allen because he's awesome, but like the
- 38:19Speaker 1: way that Brian Dable brought him up and then Stefan
- 38:21Speaker 1: Diggs comes along, and like the way that Buffalo developed,
- 38:25Speaker 1: I agree with you, And you know, I love Josh Allen,
- 38:27Speaker 1: you know, I just like love watching him play. But
- 38:30Speaker 1: in terms of just pure skill, yeah, like Herbert's probably
- 38:34Speaker 1: even more skilled than Josh Allen. Josh Allen's just got
- 38:36Speaker 1: that like runaway freight train in him that he likes
- 38:38Speaker 1: to like run guys over. And I've never seen that
- 38:41Speaker 1: kind of edge Herbert. That was He's probably a smoother athlete, faster.
- 38:46Speaker 1: That was the one, like psyche knock on him coming
- 38:48Speaker 1: out was that he's kind of, yeah, kind of a
- 38:52Speaker 1: California boy. And that's why I say, you know, after
- 38:55Speaker 1: I don't know how many years it will be, it'll
- 38:58Speaker 1: be a long time before I cut ties because pretty stubborn,
- 39:00Speaker 1: as you might know. Yeah, um, but that's what I
- 39:03Speaker 1: would wonder about him is it's not does it mean?
- 39:05Speaker 1: Why does it mean? It's not quite j Cutler territory,
- 39:09Speaker 1: but like we're we're you know, smoking. That's like what
- 39:13Speaker 1: what the knoxo about him coming out were is that
- 39:15Speaker 1: it just you know, okay, and then and then you
- 39:18Speaker 1: end up at the Chargers where you're sharing a stadium.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I mean when he first got there, they didn't even
- 39:22Speaker 1: probably they were in limbo. I think initially weren't they
- 39:24Speaker 1: Maybe they just made a deal. But either way, you're
- 39:26Speaker 1: kind of the B team in LA that doesn't really
- 39:29Speaker 1: care unless you're really good, and then everybody cares. But
- 39:31Speaker 1: if you're averaged, everybody's kind of like, you know more
- 39:34Speaker 1: than us. And I agree with you. Yeah, that was
- 39:37Speaker 1: that was bad. We got some we got some email
- 39:39Speaker 1: stacking up here. Um so, but don't I read some perhaps?
- 39:43Speaker 1: Oh sorry, why don't you read something I'm dying over here?
- 39:47Speaker 1: Um Sean from Pocatello, Idaho? Hope, I said that right,
- 39:50Speaker 1: he's a Pocatello, Pocatello. I've I've been there with your
- 39:54Speaker 1: with your lady when you're driving back. Yes, all right.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I rode a horse and Donnelle Idaho not too far
- 39:59Speaker 1: away from what was that like the only time I've
- 40:02Speaker 1: ever had I needed that that was good. That was good,
- 40:06Speaker 1: Paul on a horse getting up. I didn't wanted that
- 40:10Speaker 1: mental images. Wait, what was that? You guys were like
- 40:12Speaker 1: driving back and on a ranch and let's stop at
- 40:14Speaker 1: the ranch and her sister lives there. We stayed overnight,
- 40:17Speaker 1: like her sister, farm girl sister. Yeah, anything to you
- 40:21Speaker 1: doing milk and cows or anything. No, no, just I
- 40:23Speaker 1: had all I could do to be on a horse
- 40:25Speaker 1: and not kill myself. It was like one of the
- 40:29Speaker 1: most stressful hours of my life. It's scary and scary.
- 40:32Speaker 1: My dad we went to a dude ranch in Arizona
- 40:35Speaker 1: when I was a kid, and my dad was like
- 40:37Speaker 1: slipping like the guys like twenties to like take us
- 40:39Speaker 1: out on private things like I had never ridden a
- 40:40Speaker 1: horse before. And then the cowboy guy just all of
- 40:42Speaker 1: a sudden like all right, let's go, and he just
- 40:44Speaker 1: starts getting up, and I'm like I started screaming because
- 40:47Speaker 1: I was supposed to fall off into like the briar patch.
- 40:49Speaker 1: It was scary. Sorry, thank you, Matt. That horse talk
- 40:53Speaker 1: a horse though, we just did play the colts. Uh
- 40:57Speaker 1: good h So email here that this twenty thirteen he's
- 41:00Speaker 1: been listening to just twenty thirteen. That was the year
- 41:02Speaker 1: picked up a Mendola, the next Westwelker, Aaron Dobson, the
- 41:05Speaker 1: next Randy moss Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boys, Comma apparentheses. This
- 41:09Speaker 1: was a hard season to watch offensively. Amndola was hurt
- 41:12Speaker 1: within the first few games grand cat surgery. Out of
- 41:14Speaker 1: almost the whole season, we did discover Julian Edelman had
- 41:17Speaker 1: so many crazy twists and turns that became hilked on
- 41:19Speaker 1: PFW and hearing and everyone's sight, everyone's insights. Sorry, My
- 41:25Speaker 1: question is, with how bad our offenses looked this season
- 41:27Speaker 1: and the last two weeks with Mack as starter again,
- 41:29Speaker 1: do you think there is still a possibility that Bill
- 41:31Speaker 1: goes back to Zappi at some point this season. That's
- 41:35Speaker 1: for you, Evan, We're doing this again. He's got he's
- 41:37Speaker 1: got the stats too. I can lay him out for
- 41:38Speaker 1: you from now. I don't need the stats against the
- 41:40Speaker 1: Lines and the Browns, thank you. I really thought that
- 41:44Speaker 1: the last like six drives against the Bears or was
- 41:48Speaker 1: gonna do enough to Just so you know, I had
- 41:52Speaker 1: little at this conversation yesterday too, And the only thing
- 41:55Speaker 1: people really remember about the Bears game or the first
- 41:58Speaker 1: two drives the right exactly. So they come into the game,
- 42:01Speaker 1: they change up what they're doing offensively because Zappi's in
- 42:04Speaker 1: the game, they actually call some good plays and pull
- 42:06Speaker 1: out some some good schemes against against Chicago. And then
- 42:10Speaker 1: when the two plays that they had up their back
- 42:12Speaker 1: pocket for that moment when Zappy came in the game
- 42:15Speaker 1: run out, what did the rest of it look? But
- 42:18Speaker 1: I would even say, like I would have been more
- 42:21Speaker 1: impressed if they were actual drives. Like I give Zappy credit.
- 42:24Speaker 1: He came off the bench that down ten nothing, you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: two touchdowns. But they were basically two plays, right, That's
- 42:30Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But it wasn't even like they went like,
- 42:33Speaker 1: you know, six yards, eight yards, ten yards, third down conversion. No,
- 42:37Speaker 1: it was two bombs. They completed two bombs, and that's
- 42:40Speaker 1: how they scored the two touchdowns. And again I'm not
- 42:43Speaker 1: taking credit away from he doesn't lose credit because they
- 42:45Speaker 1: only scored an explosive plays. I don't take any credit away.
- 42:48Speaker 1: But to Evan's point, when those when the explosive plays disappeared,
- 42:52Speaker 1: they had nothing. They never even crossed the fifty yard
- 42:55Speaker 1: line right in the in the second half, and was
- 42:58Speaker 1: it six drives? I think it was like six. Yeah, yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 1: I played off the top of my head, all right,
- 43:03Speaker 1: so five or six drives? Right? It just you just
- 43:05Speaker 1: go nebulous when you don't have an exactly the numbers
- 43:08Speaker 1: for Zappy against the Lions and the Browns are so
- 43:12Speaker 1: ridiculously stupid that it has to just be a Lions
- 43:15Speaker 1: or Browns thing. Like, I am not convinced that Bailey
- 43:18Speaker 1: Zappy against the Jets defense would have put up seventeen
- 43:22Speaker 1: yards per attempt off of play action. Like, I'm just
- 43:25Speaker 1: not convinced that that's the same. I tried yesterday to
- 43:28Speaker 1: my boy Tony. I was like, you know, like, you
- 43:30Speaker 1: don't think there's a difference between playing the worst defense
- 43:32Speaker 1: in football and one of the three best. I go,
- 43:36Speaker 1: do you really think Zappy would have an over one
- 43:38Speaker 1: hundred passer rating still if he had to play the
- 43:41Speaker 1: Jets and the Colts the last two weeks? I don't know.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, Like, if we can't be intellectually honest,
- 43:46Speaker 1: then what are we doing? Yeah? Right, right, interesting little
- 43:49Speaker 1: question here from sean oh and East Taunton. Are we
- 43:53Speaker 1: underestimating the absence of Brian Hoyer for mact Jones in
- 43:55Speaker 1: this offense. How big of a role was it having
- 43:57Speaker 1: Hoyer on the sideline to assist Matt and Judge raking
- 44:00Speaker 1: things down. I thought that's kind of interesting. I mean,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I know he's been still around the building. Well, I
- 44:06Speaker 1: was gonna ask us, guys, because I almost asked Bill
- 44:08Speaker 1: at the press conference last Friday, and I didn't want
- 44:11Speaker 1: to because I'm not at every press conference and I
- 44:13Speaker 1: didn't know if that had been addressed. Has he been
- 44:15Speaker 1: asked about Hoyer's whereabouts he's been around. We've seen him
- 44:19Speaker 1: poking around practice and things like that during media windows. Right,
- 44:25Speaker 1: I'm hiding behind trees. Hello, I haven't seen him on
- 44:28Speaker 1: the sideline, But I also haven't looked closely on the
- 44:32Speaker 1: sideline to see if he's in the street closer, you know,
- 44:34Speaker 1: sweatsuit or whatever on the sideline. But I guess it's possible.
- 44:39Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I think you'd have to
- 44:41Speaker 1: ask Mac and like, you know, get it. He's eligible
- 44:43Speaker 1: to be activated, right, Yes, you can practice at any point. Yes, yeah,
- 44:49Speaker 1: but I mean if you talk about if if I mean,
- 44:52Speaker 1: I just see maybe Hoyer is a sounding board that
- 44:54Speaker 1: Mac maybe has some kind of. I don't want to.
- 44:56Speaker 1: I don't want this to imply that he doesn't trust
- 44:58Speaker 1: or you know, truly believe in map Patricia. But like
- 45:01Speaker 1: he I think he has a little bit more close
- 45:03Speaker 1: one on one history with Hoyer. And I think sometimes
- 45:05Speaker 1: when quarterbacks speak quarterback to each other, it's just, you know,
- 45:09Speaker 1: it's outside of the coach speak, even regardless of how
- 45:11Speaker 1: you feel about the coaches. So um, I don't know.
- 45:13Speaker 1: I just I think it's it might be an interesting
- 45:15Speaker 1: thing going forward, just a quality guy to have back
- 45:17Speaker 1: on the sidelines. Let's go back to the phones here.
- 45:21Speaker 1: We got Eldred coming in hot. Hey, Eldred, what's going on? Hey?
- 45:26Speaker 1: So that's how y'all doing the day? Good Man? Look
- 45:29Speaker 1: the show especially open topic they have it, yes, sir,
- 45:33Speaker 1: speaking about about the line about you know, constpt of
- 45:36Speaker 1: the line block. There's three and four. Don't they have
- 45:39Speaker 1: to do with the play collar and office line coach
- 45:41Speaker 1: if they ain't never did it before, they don't know
- 45:43Speaker 1: how instead of something about just giving them the nod
- 45:47Speaker 1: to do it, I guess so yeah, I mean, I look,
- 45:50Speaker 1: I think all that's a factor in all of this.
- 45:52Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, it's personnel, right.
- 45:55Speaker 1: I mean, do you have a tight end that's a
- 45:58Speaker 1: dominant blocking tight end like a Gronkowski. Do you have
- 46:01Speaker 1: an offensive line that's capable of making those interior combination
- 46:06Speaker 1: blocks I was talking about, Like, I think a lot
- 46:08Speaker 1: of it is they dried up on the whiteboard and
- 46:11Speaker 1: it looks like it should work, and then you get
- 46:13Speaker 1: into a game and it's not hitting the way that
- 46:15Speaker 1: they wanted to hit. So maybe that's the coaching asking
- 46:18Speaker 1: too much out of individual players. But at the end
- 46:21Speaker 1: of the day, I do also think some of the
- 46:23Speaker 1: onus is on the players to go out there and
- 46:25Speaker 1: execute what's being called. I agree with that to somewhat extent,
- 46:30Speaker 1: but do you also got to teach that. But if
- 46:32Speaker 1: you can't teach that, you know, you got what you got,
- 46:37Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, that's where I look at it, you know.
- 46:40Speaker 1: But but then again, like I said, there are things possible.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Maybe they turned around after the vibe. Maybe they won't,
- 46:46Speaker 1: but I'm just hoping. And now, Evan On, thank you again.
- 46:52Speaker 1: You greet me once a while back because you cut
- 46:54Speaker 1: me down about it ain't thet the coordinators just mac.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Then I said, you've met pubs in the game and
- 47:03Speaker 1: a real coordinator and this that I say that the
- 47:05Speaker 1: first week you told me, yeah, no, here we all evolved. Yeah,
- 47:13Speaker 1: I mean, I don't remember the first time that coming up,
- 47:16Speaker 1: But just I'll continue down that road forever. I mean,
- 47:21Speaker 1: I think all these people that are out there that
- 47:23Speaker 1: are saying Mac isn't the guy, like we need to
- 47:26Speaker 1: give up on Mac Jones. There's so few quarterbacks I
- 47:30Speaker 1: think that would survive in this environment. There's so few.
- 47:33Speaker 1: And that's not like to make excuses for Mac Jones.
- 47:36Speaker 1: It's just to look at it and just look at
- 47:39Speaker 1: your own division, Like look at what Buffalo has done
- 47:41Speaker 1: for Josh Allen, look at what Miami has done for
- 47:44Speaker 1: two Like there was a lot of people down in
- 47:46Speaker 1: Miami with Tua that we're saying, first two seasons, I'm
- 47:49Speaker 1: not sure about this guy. I don't know if this
- 47:51Speaker 1: guy's it. You know, the arm strength hasn't come back
- 47:54Speaker 1: to where it was pre hip injury, and he's not
- 47:57Speaker 1: making throws down the field, and it's all very very
- 48:01Speaker 1: limited what we're able to do with him. And a
- 48:03Speaker 1: lot of the same things that people say about Mac Jones,
- 48:06Speaker 1: and next thing, you know, they get him a wizard
- 48:09Speaker 1: and Mike McDaniel. They trade for Tyree Hill and now
- 48:11Speaker 1: he's the best passer in the league. Right. So it's
- 48:14Speaker 1: just it's kind of like what we were talking about yesterday, Mike,
- 48:18Speaker 1: when you said, well, how much of an environment do
- 48:20Speaker 1: you have to create for Mac Jones to succeed? Yes? Like, yes,
- 48:24Speaker 1: like you do have to create a cushioning environment for
- 48:27Speaker 1: Mac Jones. He's not transcendent, Like he's not going to
- 48:30Speaker 1: just take over an offense and make it his and
- 48:34Speaker 1: be able to mask a bad offensive line, or mask
- 48:38Speaker 1: average skill players, or mask below average or average coaching,
- 48:42Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it. He does need more
- 48:45Speaker 1: help than that, and I think that that's true for
- 48:48Speaker 1: ninety nine percent of quarterbacks in the NFL. I mean
- 48:51Speaker 1: you just look at Miami, you look at Philadelphia now
- 48:55Speaker 1: with Jalen Hurts. Like Jalen Hurts, No one thought Jalen
- 48:58Speaker 1: Hurts was going to be this good buddy, certainly not us.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Remember what we used to talk about. He looked like
- 49:05Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. I mean, like the best places that they
- 49:06Speaker 1: made in those joint practices where Jalen Hurts running around
- 49:09Speaker 1: and he looks fast, he can't pass right and then
- 49:11Speaker 1: now you know Nick's Errandian comes in, he designs an
- 49:13Speaker 1: offense around his strains, They trade for a j. Brown,
- 49:16Speaker 1: they draft Avante Smith in the first round, and now
- 49:19Speaker 1: all of a sudden, he's an MVP candidate. And I
- 49:23Speaker 1: just I don't know how you can see these things
- 49:25Speaker 1: happening around the league and not conclude that these quarterbacks
- 49:29Speaker 1: are getting the proper help from the organization that they need.
- 49:34Speaker 1: And then look at Mac Jones's situation and it's basically
- 49:37Speaker 1: the same cast of characters that he had around him
- 49:39Speaker 1: last year, and Matt Patricia Colling plays in running the
- 49:42Speaker 1: offense instead of Josh McDaniels, and he's regressed. It's I mean,
- 49:46Speaker 1: that's all fact. Yeah, yeah, what's changed that there's probably
- 49:49Speaker 1: nuance in there that we can We've talked about a
- 49:52Speaker 1: million times before, but that's all fact. You can't argue
- 49:55Speaker 1: that he hasn't been given what some of these other
- 49:58Speaker 1: young quarterbacks have been given. Well, and I guess we
- 50:00Speaker 1: got to see. I mean, I'm with you, guys, though,
- 50:02Speaker 1: I just I think he's there kind of guy, and
- 50:04Speaker 1: I think they're gonna stick with him, and there's gonna
- 50:06Speaker 1: be a lot of questions about this year about quarterbacks
- 50:08Speaker 1: and all that. I mean, at least until you give
- 50:10Speaker 1: him protection, Like I don't feel like you really have
- 50:12Speaker 1: given him a fair chance. It's also just like where
- 50:15Speaker 1: do you get an upgrade from because it's not going
- 50:18Speaker 1: to come in the draft, Because I think Hurts is
- 50:21Speaker 1: probably the last guy that you can think of that
- 50:23Speaker 1: slipped to the second round, that had great natural talent
- 50:26Speaker 1: that slipped because of concerns about him as an actual passer. Right,
- 50:30Speaker 1: He's a great athlete, could throw the ball a mile,
- 50:33Speaker 1: but is he actually going to develop the processing skills
- 50:35Speaker 1: in the accuracy? So he slips to the second round? Dak,
- 50:39Speaker 1: I guess now there, but there, you know, that's the
- 50:41Speaker 1: last guy that has succeeded. Now, there's been some other
- 50:44Speaker 1: young guys that slipped with the same kind of thing.
- 50:47Speaker 1: You know, a guy like Malik Willis right now, who
- 50:50Speaker 1: knows right now? So far they haven't even let him
- 50:52Speaker 1: throw right so we have no idea. But yeah, to
- 50:55Speaker 1: you a point, maybe there's a there's a there's a
- 50:59Speaker 1: guy um, you know, like Kellen Mond. You know two
- 51:03Speaker 1: years ago, like I, I you know, I had a competition.
- 51:06Speaker 1: I wasn't a huge Kellen mont guy. Um, but there
- 51:10Speaker 1: are some skills there that you could say, well, with coaching,
- 51:13Speaker 1: we can do X, Y and Z, and it's not
- 51:17Speaker 1: necessarily taking you a top fifteen pick to get that guy.
- 51:21Speaker 1: You know. I think Willis was in the third round,
- 51:23Speaker 1: even right later. I think I think he went after
- 51:25Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy. Okay, so he went after Yeah, Okay, I
- 51:30Speaker 1: thought because he was that's the I thought he was
- 51:32Speaker 1: third round and those are the only two guys was
- 51:34Speaker 1: picking in Willis before. I could have sworn because when
- 51:38Speaker 1: they had that NFL thing where they called Bailey's Bailey's Appy,
- 51:41Speaker 1: they had cameras at his house and Bill calls Bailey's
- 51:43Speaker 1: appiances were picking you. His agent says like, you got
- 51:47Speaker 1: drafted before Malik Willis, like in the video. Okay, So
- 51:50Speaker 1: I believe it was that's the order went in, but
- 51:53Speaker 1: it just happens. So so let's let's let's take that, queen,
- 51:56Speaker 1: let's take that, and what would you guys like, would
- 51:59Speaker 1: you rather of taking a flyer in the fourth round
- 52:02Speaker 1: of Malik Willis then bailey Zappy like you You're going
- 52:06Speaker 1: to take a quarterback? I say no, because I think
- 52:09Speaker 1: that they envisioned Bailey zappy as being like a Brian
- 52:12Speaker 1: Hoyer esque backup that can be Mac Jones's backup and
- 52:16Speaker 1: have a similar skill set so that if he does
- 52:18Speaker 1: go down, just like this year, you're not reinventing the
- 52:21Speaker 1: wheel on the fly to fit a quarterback that's a
- 52:23Speaker 1: mobile quarterback versus a pocket passer. I think they thought
- 52:27Speaker 1: that Mac was the guy, and they had their backup
- 52:29Speaker 1: and starter for at least the next four years under
- 52:32Speaker 1: rookie contracts, and that that is a great setup if
- 52:35Speaker 1: it works out. Yeah, let's go back to the phone's
- 52:37Speaker 1: Dwayne is in Boston. Hey Dwayne, what's going on? Hey? Um,
- 52:41Speaker 1: I have a question for you guys. Fire away. Well,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I see Mac Jones. I've called it before. He looks
- 52:49Speaker 1: like Colt McCoy to me, lately, I feel like he
- 52:52Speaker 1: looks a little worse, maybe more like Trent Dilbert. My
- 52:56Speaker 1: question is, do you think that if Mac there's nothing
- 53:00Speaker 1: proven the offense has been improved, but they can avoid turnovers.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Is there a way that the defense could lead us
- 53:08Speaker 1: to some playoff wins? I think thanks to Wayne, Um,
- 53:13Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's a question we talked about
- 53:14Speaker 1: a lot. I mean, it's just the teams are too good.
- 53:16Speaker 1: There's too many good offenses. I just as much as
- 53:18Speaker 1: I want to think you can beat Buffalo with oh
- 53:20Speaker 1: my gosh, we held them to three points, like, it's
- 53:22Speaker 1: just that seems like ridiculous, Like it just doesn't seem possible.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I mean, at the very least, you just need an
- 53:27Speaker 1: offense that, like you said, doesn't turn the ball over
- 53:30Speaker 1: and can finish in the red zone. Like I mean,
- 53:31Speaker 1: they think if you have those two things, you might
- 53:33Speaker 1: be okay. But they're not even really close to those
- 53:36Speaker 1: things yet. I mean they're just scratching the surface of
- 53:38Speaker 1: the turnover stuff, and then the red zone remains like,
- 53:40Speaker 1: you know, near the bottom of the league. I mean,
- 53:42Speaker 1: getting stopped at the second two to three yard line.
- 53:45Speaker 1: It's just you know that those kind of things speak
- 53:48Speaker 1: more to me than just like this is a problem,
- 53:50Speaker 1: you know with execution. It's just like that that to
- 53:53Speaker 1: me is like a mentality of you get to that
- 53:55Speaker 1: two yard line and you're not going to be denied
- 53:57Speaker 1: offensive line, et cetera, et cetera. I think it looks
- 54:02Speaker 1: I go back to that twenty eighteen playoff run, because
- 54:04Speaker 1: that's the last playoff run we can go back to
- 54:07Speaker 1: how many points did they ended up scoring in Kansas
- 54:09Speaker 1: City to win the AFA Championship. Seven had like forty
- 54:13Speaker 1: something in the other game, right, So charging everybody always
- 54:16Speaker 1: comes back to I know, right, I believe it's one
- 54:20Speaker 1: that's that's a hill. I die all often, people. But
- 54:23Speaker 1: the point is is that eventually, in a playoff run,
- 54:26Speaker 1: which I think we're getting way ahead of ourselves here,
- 54:28Speaker 1: but eventually, in a playoff run, you're gonna have to
- 54:30Speaker 1: put thirty five points on the board to beat a
- 54:32Speaker 1: good team. Like whether it's the divisional round or it's
- 54:35Speaker 1: the championship game, or it's the super Bowl, it's the
- 54:37Speaker 1: wildcard round. Now, like, eventually you're going to have to
- 54:39Speaker 1: put thirty plus points on the board to win a
- 54:41Speaker 1: football game. And that's like part of the question when
- 54:43Speaker 1: Mac and when I say like it needs to be
- 54:45Speaker 1: perfect around him, Like, I think what we talked about was,
- 54:47Speaker 1: you know, setting up the team, the scheme, the weapons,
- 54:50Speaker 1: you know that that stuff needs to be perfect. I
- 54:51Speaker 1: also just wandered though, within the context of a game,
- 54:54Speaker 1: when the game isn't going perfect, you know, like like
- 54:56Speaker 1: that's more of like a micro level. But I think
- 54:58Speaker 1: that that's the thing that you know, great teams have
- 55:00Speaker 1: and that that's a great example of that team that
- 55:03Speaker 1: you can win. However, you need to win. And I
- 55:05Speaker 1: know Bill talks about the game declaring itself and all
- 55:07Speaker 1: that stuff, but what do you got? What do you
- 55:09Speaker 1: got here? Your eyes? Oh nothing, I'm just I'm infatuated
- 55:12Speaker 1: by by the band on the field. That's one of
- 55:15Speaker 1: my favorite all time plays. See, yeah, there's so many
- 55:18Speaker 1: things that are so like so wrong about this. The
- 55:21Speaker 1: offense when whether it's Zabi or Mac, the on schedule
- 55:25Speaker 1: offense for the Patriots is pretty good, right, like play
- 55:28Speaker 1: action on schedule out of the sticks, they're they're okay there.
- 55:32Speaker 1: It's like you said, what negative players come up or
- 55:35Speaker 1: they get into like a couple of drives where there's
- 55:37Speaker 1: a rut, right, and they're not moving the football very well.
- 55:40Speaker 1: We come back to all the stats, right, like comebacks,
- 55:44Speaker 1: how they've come back in in won a game one
- 55:48Speaker 1: time with mac Joe's and it was against the Texans
- 55:51Speaker 1: last year. Is his only fourth quarter comeback on his
- 55:53Speaker 1: ledger and his entire NFL career is against the Texans
- 55:56Speaker 1: last year, right, And so it's another one that I'm
- 56:00Speaker 1: die on all the time. Well, I almost died during
- 56:02Speaker 1: that game, Paul. That was the first time I think
- 56:03Speaker 1: Paul saw me absolutely beside myself. I used to right,
- 56:06Speaker 1: when the offense when the opponent scores more more than
- 56:10Speaker 1: twenty five points over over, so they can't play from behind,
- 56:15Speaker 1: they can't play in a shootout. So when they have
- 56:18Speaker 1: a game like they did against the Colts where everything
- 56:20Speaker 1: goes great, then I know it's the formula, right, I mean,
- 56:24Speaker 1: And that's what's I think, Like, that's the point I've
- 56:26Speaker 1: reached over the last like maybe three to four weeks,
- 56:28Speaker 1: which just like this is what it is. I gotta
- 56:31Speaker 1: stop like thinking that all of a sudden it's gonna
- 56:33Speaker 1: be they get in a hole and they're able to
- 56:35Speaker 1: dig themselves out, or you know. I think when that
- 56:37Speaker 1: game finally hopefully does happen, at some point, it will
- 56:40Speaker 1: be like, oh my gosh, like they came back from
- 56:43Speaker 1: behind and they were down like fifteen points and they
- 56:46Speaker 1: scored thirty two, and you know that that game. But again,
- 56:50Speaker 1: I'm struggling to have a have hope that that that's
- 56:52Speaker 1: going to happen. But I got an interesting email here
- 56:56Speaker 1: Joel joel Weiss. He says, you won't read that's the subject.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I will, um, that's that's a little trick
- 57:02Speaker 1: they like to use email read well, No, and it's uh,
- 57:05Speaker 1: it's it's make Bill walk the plank for this. Uh.
- 57:07Speaker 1: When the Patriots part ways with Bill by the end
- 57:09Speaker 1: of the season, do you think he tries he tries
- 57:11Speaker 1: to find another head coach job to chase you. Um.
- 57:14Speaker 1: I think my just quick point on this is that
- 57:17Speaker 1: if you didn't have like and and and I say
- 57:20Speaker 1: this with full criticism towards him for how this offensive
- 57:23Speaker 1: situation was handled, I think that that was a mistake.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I don't think it was handled correctly, that it's not
- 57:28Speaker 1: handling well. But I will say that Bill Belichick is
- 57:30Speaker 1: probably the only thing that's really keeping you in the
- 57:33Speaker 1: mix of these of the of right now, like you
- 57:36Speaker 1: haven't lost to the Jets yet, Like it can get worse,
- 57:39Speaker 1: it can get a whole lot. You're five and four.
- 57:40Speaker 1: I just think he gives you an advantage still, even
- 57:43Speaker 1: despite his mistakes, which he does make. UM, I still
- 57:46Speaker 1: think he's he's he's an excellent coach, and I think
- 57:48Speaker 1: he's he's getting stuff out of this team that, you know,
- 57:51Speaker 1: at least on the defensive side of the ball. But um,
- 57:54Speaker 1: there's no way, there's no way they're gonna fire him
- 57:56Speaker 1: now at this season, you can't find a better replacement
- 57:58Speaker 1: than Bill Belichick over all of his warts and all
- 58:01Speaker 1: of his issues. Maybe loyalty, I think to coaching compadres
- 58:06Speaker 1: is probably the biggest. It's almost not even worth discussing
- 58:10Speaker 1: because it's not happening. The only way well because he
- 58:14Speaker 1: thinks you wouldn't read it because we're broaching the topic
- 58:17Speaker 1: that you know, Bill Belichick could lose his job, like
- 58:20Speaker 1: why would we not read that? But to me, the
- 58:23Speaker 1: only way he would lose his job is if he
- 58:26Speaker 1: completely lost the locker room and there were It's like
- 58:29Speaker 1: Josh mcdial's with the Raiders in year one. I mean,
- 58:33Speaker 1: it's a mess. They can't win games. They blew three
- 58:36Speaker 1: seventeen point leads. But unless there's a steady stream of
- 58:41Speaker 1: players going to Mark Davis telling them this guy can't coach,
- 58:44Speaker 1: this guy has lost the locker room, this guy can't
- 58:47Speaker 1: do it. Like, I don't think you're going to fire
- 58:48Speaker 1: a guy in one year. Now, take that. With Bill
- 58:51Speaker 1: Belichick and all that he's accomplished over the last twenty
- 58:53Speaker 1: plus seasons, what would it take for him to lose
- 58:56Speaker 1: a job. It's not going to be going nine and
- 58:58Speaker 1: eight or eight nine, you know, and maybe missing the
- 59:02Speaker 1: playoffs and having mac Jones take a step back in
- 59:05Speaker 1: year two. It's gonna be the players going to this guy.
- 59:09Speaker 1: He doesn't know what he's doing anymore. He's lost it,
- 59:11Speaker 1: and then maybe the Craft family has to step back
- 59:15Speaker 1: and look at it and figure out an alternative. I
- 59:17Speaker 1: don't think there's any chance that he's going anywhere. I
- 59:19Speaker 1: will say this though. The only person that has the
- 59:23Speaker 1: power to get him to recognize the mistake of that
- 59:30Speaker 1: he's made with the offensive coaching staff is mister Craft, right,
- 59:32Speaker 1: Like he's the only one that can go and say
- 59:35Speaker 1: to Bill at the end of the season, I'm like,
- 59:38Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you who to draft. I'm not
- 59:40Speaker 1: gonna tell you who to sign in free agency, like
- 59:42Speaker 1: you guys do your thing there. But I want an
- 59:44Speaker 1: offensive coach on the staff next year, like a real
- 59:47Speaker 1: offensive coach on the staff. Heay, so now that I will,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I'll broach that topic, okay, because I think he evans
- 59:54Speaker 1: exactly right. That's that's plausible. We're not in fantasy land
- 59:58Speaker 1: now where Bill just gets fired because he goes nine
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: to eight. We got to some changes. Now now you're
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: you're you're approaching that scenario. How does Bill respond to that?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: That's a way that Bill might not be the coach
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: next year because Bill might say, you know, you're not
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: telling me how I'm going to structure my staff, you know,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: and Robert's saying, oh, no, I am. You know I'm
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: the owner, you rent, I own. Like that's the difference.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: Let's probably connected two of how much you you put
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: credence into those reports of like wanting the draft to
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: change the process. I mean there's been some like rumors.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I mean, I know, just go back to this year,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: like you know, we haven't what a playoff game in
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: three years. I just like all for all the draft
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: has changed talk outside of maybe taking Mac in the
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: first round, which you're still taking Nick Saban's quarterback. So
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I'm not really fully convinced that that's anybody else with you, Okay,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: But then this past year they go right back to
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: Cole Strange and that's a Belichick pick, like please, yeah,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Like theycrafts right exactly, So that's clearly a Bill pick. Yeah.
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: And then I remember when we were out on the
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: field when they introduced Cole Strange, which they do, they'd
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: break him out with the jersey. Robert Craft was saying
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that it's like when we drafted Logan Makings, and he
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: said at the time, everybody questioned that pick because why
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: are we drafting a guard in the first round? And
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: it turned out to be Logan Makers and it turned
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: out pretty well. And I'm like, so this is how
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: Bill is selling you on the fact that you have
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: to introduce this guard from Chattanooga as your first round pick.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Because he was almost trying to like convince himself that
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: this was the right thing to do while he was
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: presenting Cole Strange to the media. It was it was funny.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Just one more question and we'll take a quick break.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: But um, just Matt from Son of Santan Valley, Arizona
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Rights and just asking thoughts on Frank Reich to be
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the offensive corner? Could he be that guy? Does that
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: no fit? No? Schematically no. So he's a West Coast guy, right.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: He comes from the Doug Peterson coaching tree. He did coach.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I looked this up because I've been getting this question
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a lot. He did coach in some other systems so
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Tony Dungee Air Correlle. He did coach under Mike McCoy
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: who runs a Patriot like Earn Hard Perkins system, but
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: he is his real coaching. Chops come from working with
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Doug Peterson in Philadelphia in the West Coast system, so
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: they speak a different language. All right, Well, we're gonna
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: take a quick break here. Nobody's nobody's got food today,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: so nothing to watch, but we will be back. Got

- 1:14:00Speaker 1: a solid? Well? Hey, that's better than I did in school,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: so I'll take it. So Matt, great, that was a
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: great job today. Great. Great. On on Picks Thursday, we
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: have no Fred, but now I feel like Fred's here.
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: It was a Fred flavor. This is your lock of
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: the week, upset lock and a win by more. He
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: took the favorite. Uh you could? You can probably put
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: like three different clips of explaining the hook to him,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: like what he still doesn't get you? Do you have
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: a like? Hear people say, like the hook? Yes, and
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: it's generally like you know, the three and a half
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: or the six and a half seven and it, you know,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: like any half he just considers a hook, you know,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: like if it's four and a half five and a half,
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: it's not really a hook. But it's like on the
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: field goal or the touchdown. You know, like you've heard
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: people bad yes, stuff. It just can't can't seem to figure.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: Sometimes I do get lost by the gambling lingo. But
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: well that's because of Fred. But he's confused me. There
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: are probably things that you always thought were so, and
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: then Fred explains them in a way that they're not
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: really in the same way. So I just say like that,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: oh well, just I feel like he's here. It's like
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I know he's beautiful. He's a little girl in Dusseldorff
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: right now. Literally, well, uh, well, we've got to come
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: back from the break from Spi and fresnow coming in
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: coming in hot on Evan, you know. And it got
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: a little it's great that there's another punching bag on
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: the show. Brewing rivalry took. I took my beatings for
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: how many years. It's nice to have someone else. No,
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: I love it. And Spi is of course a long
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: time callers, so you know it's it's a it's a
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: new new twist to the show. But let's get to
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: this email. Uh spe writes, well, grinds my gears is
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: the idea that Mac as a so called net neutral quarterback.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: We'll let Evan explain what that means would be good
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: enough to nab a title if everything around him were
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: stable and competently composed and run at some point the
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: quarterback matters. Last week, the boys from Catch twenty two
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: were clear that they think we're in an era of
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: a manager game manager QB, where you can build a
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: team and plug in a Mac Jones and ride off
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: into the sunset that may get you to the Okay Bowl?
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Is that one of the bulls that it's coming up?
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: But the history of the Super Bowl winning quarterbacks he
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: is clear, still clear as crystal. You almost always really
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: good or great quarterback fifty percent of the time. It
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: works every time. Okay, So, first of all, Spee, I
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: love you, but I think we can move on from
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: from this debate at some point. Second of all, the
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: net neutral thing is totally barth sing all right, So
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna try to explain that but I
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: think the overall point we were trying to make, or
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I was trying to make about this whole thing, and
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: I kind of got on it a little bit yesterday
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: with you, Mike, is that I don't think mac Jones
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: is that special, right, Like I don't think that he
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: is a a I said earlier, I don't think that
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: he is a transcendent quarterback. So yes, for a quarterback
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: of his ability, at least currently, at least what we've
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: seen so far out of twenty four game, a quarterback
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: of his current ability is going to need things to
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: be pretty around him like that. That's just the best
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: way that you can describe it. Is. He's going to
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: need to have good receivers, and he's going to need
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: to have good coaching, and he's gonna need to have
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: a pretty easy situation for him to be what people
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: want him to be as a quarterback. And that doesn't
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: necessarily mean that he's bad. It just means that he's
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: not Patrick Mahomes right. He's not going to put the
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: team on his back and carry the team solely to
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: the Promised Land, like He's going to need a lot
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: of help around him in order to do that. At
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: least at his current state. So I think that the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: net neutral quarterback, and that whole idea stems from the
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: fact of which one is easier to build. Is it
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: easier to find Patrick Mahomes or is it easier to
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: build a good team around a quarterback that's more average? Right?
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: So is it easier to do it? I think the
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: easiest way that I can come up with is easier
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: to do it the way the twenty nineteen San Francisco
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: forty nine Ers did it. Or is it easier to
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: do it the way the twenty nineteen Chiefs did it?
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: So the forty nine Ers had Jimmy Garoppolo, who I
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: think for Mac Jones is a nice comp is a
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: player that has a similar skill set. So is the
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: easier way to get George Kittle and Deebo Samuel and
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: a good offensive line and a good play caller and
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan and carry the quarterback to a Super Bowl?
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: Or is it easier to find the transcendent QB? And
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: my adage and Alex's adage has always been that it's
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: probably at this stage easier to do the Niners thing
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: than it is to do the other thing, because good
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: luck like good luck finding you know, it's basically catching
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: lightning in a pan twice because he did it once
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: already with Brady, So now you're asking them to go
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: out there and do it again. Six round Unicorn. We
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: just talked about it with Justin Herbert, like he's awesome,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: He's a great physical marvel. They don't win very many
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: games with him. They're not making the playoffs with like that.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: So you can have all of the tools, you can
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: have all of the talent in the world, but at
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: the end of the day, the situation matters, and Mac
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: is right in that category with a nine percent of
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: the quarterbacks in the league right now. Yeah, I would
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: just add real quick that I think that I would
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: always push back on the the definitive. This is what
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: you have to do, this is what you can't do,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: this is what you need to do. I think there
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: are a lot of different boxes to fill in. There's
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: some stuff that I don't necessarily buy that Evan just said,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: into some stuff that I mean a thousand percent buy
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: that Evan just said. And there's a there's a lot
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: of different ways. San Francisco is a good good example.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: They did that. They built a Super Bowl caliber team
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: and they got to the super Bowl, and it's impossible
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: to sit here. I hate, like another felgrin madzism that
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: I rail against and fight back against all the time.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: I hate I'm a slave to the scoreboard, because if
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: I'm a slave to the scoreboard, then what the hell
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: do I need you for. I could just wait to
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: see who won the game, and I can realize what happened, right,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: So you can't argue with me that San Francisco wasn't
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: good enough with Jimmy Garoppolo, who I think is very
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: average to win that Super Bowl. They're up ten points
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter and they had a chance to
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: win the game. Now they lost. So the scoreboard will
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: tell you you have to have X because the other
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: guy lost. But I think we all know this nuance
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: to everything that you look at. So that's the only
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: part I push back on. Yeah, do I think you
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: need to have a really good quarterback? Yeah? I do,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: And I think if you don't, it's really hard to
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: get what San Francisco got. I don't think that's easy
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: to do. Now. Evan could tell you, well, it's easier
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: to do that than get him the homes. He's probably right,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: He's probably right. But I think both of those things
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: are really hard to do to build a team that's
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: that good that they can overcome a so so quarterback.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: And by the way, Garoppolo that year wasn't so so,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: he's so so. Now. I think there's a line, right,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: Like I think for the Rams, Jared Goff was below
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: the line, right, like Jared Goff was too. He was
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: not good enough that to be competitive in big games.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Well right, I would probably agree with that, but I
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: think the Cup injury killed them that year down stretch
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: because that was a pretty dynamic offense for most of
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: that it wasn't. But I think that the Rams recognize, Okay,
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Goff is like, that's the line, Like, we can't be
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: below this line, right. Jannian did the same thing with Jimmy,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: but I think with Shanahan. With Jimmy, it's Morris stems
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: from Jimmy's long term outlook in terms of injury and durability.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Probably right, right, because I think with Jimmy again, they
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: put Jimmy back into this offense or Trey Lance gets hurt.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: He's a top five quarterback in the league statistically, but well,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: exactly the game that's the point though, right he hasn't
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: played all that well and they haven't played all that well,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: but they but they have their efficiency as an offense
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: right now is top five in the league. It's it's
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: one of those things that like breaks people like my mind,
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: my brain, right because like my film brain tells me
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: he's not very good, right, Like you watched him on
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: tape and just watch that, like just chucked up for
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: grabs and a guy comes down with the ball, Like
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: I just don't think they have. But then your nerd
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: brain is like, oh wait, look at he's top five
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: in QBR, Like how is how is that possible? How
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: can a quarterback that every single film nut can kind
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: of rally to a point where they say, Jimmy Garoppolo
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: ain't that good? But then every single time he plays
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: for an extended period of time for the forty nine
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: ers there they have a great offense. Like I just
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: that's that's the part that I think, like you have
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: problem with. But to go back to the quarterback thing,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: my whole thing is going to continue to be the same,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: and that is I do not think that mac Jones
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: is that great. So in order for the Patriots to
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: win football game games with Mac Jones, the situation around
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: him is going to have to be good. That's the
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: point I'm trying to make. Thank you speak. Let's talk
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: back to the phones here. I got we got it.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: We've got a few games too after this, so let's
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: talk Dan from Virginia and Michigan. Hey, Dan, how are
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: you doing the games? Good? Mike, how are you doing?
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: You're doing a wonderful job today as the host. I
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: appreciate that. Thank you. Firstly, I wanted to say thank
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: you for the discussion yesterday that ensued from my question.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: It seemed that Fred was getting a little flustered by
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: the end of it, but I appreciated it because I'd
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: heard what Fred mentioned that defensive coordinators no offense because
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: they have to study it in order to defend against it.
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: But it seemed like the gap was bigger than that.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: So I was really glad to hear all of you,
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: all the different perspectives and information that came out yesterday.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: But with it being the middle of the season and
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: going into the buy, I got two questions, what percentage
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: chance do you give of the Patriots making the playoffs?
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: And if you're Bill Belichick, giving Matt Patricia his marching
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: orders for the bye week. What three things are you
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: giving him that you know he needs to figure out
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: or answer? Or um boy on, gotcha? Thanks dan Um.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: You know I'm gonna jump in right now. I would say,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: just on the playoff odds. I mean, I was in
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: my brain, I was saying forty percent chance that they
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: make the plafs and every high And if I look
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: at Football Outsiders, they gave him a forty three point
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: seven chance. Right now, what does other um analytical sites
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: give that's not based in like Fox Barrow. Oh, I
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: don't consult that one. Oh okay, but they're around the three.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: I'm with Eavan. That seems high to me. It does
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: seem high. But but I you know, I think there's
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: probably a sixty percent chance they're gonna to miss out.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I think there's a better chance they do, but but
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: I still think there's a pretty good chance. I would
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: just want to point out too, in that vicinity, the
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Jets are at sixty nine percent, the Bengals are in fairness,
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: and the Lack is at sixty one point five. So
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: those are kind of the uh the bubble teams of
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: the AFC obviously, not including Miami and you know those
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: teams that are that are down and and I teas
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: because I you know, that's what I do. UM. I
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: think the problem sometimes with numbers is it's based strictly
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: on what has happened. Like I'm I know, I'm still
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: not believing in the Jets. I still don't think Zach
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Wilson is like ready to win important games. I think
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: he's going to cost them. Um. But if you go
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: off of what has happened already, the numbers will tell
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: you that they've probably got it, Like the FBI Index
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: tell they're they're gonna win this game and that game
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: in this game. I just don't think you can do that.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: Whereas the Chargers have been sort of middling, but I
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: think that they have, you know, more of an opportunity.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: Cincinnati would probably be my better example. You know, they're
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: they're middling and you know, looking like they're you know,
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: stuck in neutral, but I think they have more of
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: an ability than the Jets would to put it together
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: in the second half of the season and make a
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: playoff run. Yeah. Yeah. The other problem I have with
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: the predictive stuff is like to the Patriots have by
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: FBI Football Power Index, they have the toughest remaining schedule
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: football outsiders. I think it's like fourth or fifth toughest schedule.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: So the consensus among the nerds is that the Patriots
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: have one of the toughest schedules remaining in the NFL.
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: They also play Buffalo twice, and they play Miami, two
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: teams that the nerds absolutely love right now, right so
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: like that it's it's nerd heaven and with those two teams.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: So my point being is is that like just inherently
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: by playing in the AFC East right now, all of
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: a sudden, you look up, the AFC's got these wagons
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: in Miami and in Buffalo. They have three of their
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: last eight games or against those two teams, so obviously
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: they're gonna have some it's gonna be skewed that the
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Patriots are gonna have a tough strainth the schedule, so
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: it is tough. I just think that two games against Buffalo,
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: in particular, who's like DV O A and all these
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: like advanced metrics are just like off the charts for Buffalo.
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: It's obviously not not no one else plays Buffalo twice
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: except the Patriots, right and you look, you know, and
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I saw some numbers like Baltimore as an example, has
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: one of the easiest schedules remaining, and they have like
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: because they have I think they play in they play
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: in the NFC South, which is a wretchedly bad division. Right,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: They've already beaten Tampa at Tampa. Um, I think they
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: have I think I want to say, they have Atlanta
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: and Carolina at home, you know, like that's what they
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: have left in that division. Like they just beat the
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: Saints right last week, so they you know, at Tampa
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: at the Saints, those are the two tougher of the
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: of those four games. So they have the two easy
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: ones that really that should be cupcakes at home. That's
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: a big advantage, you know, to to fall back on. Well,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: speaking of games, I want to I want to do this.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: This game, um kind of fun. It's it's it's a
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: silly game. Not kind of silly. You'll know it. Uh,
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: it's coming in here from Tyler and Nadick. Um. So
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: the rules are a clue is given that ties two
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: names to gather such as here's an example, a Patriots
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: practice squad quarterback that is also an adoption agent for
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: a problem Child. What Gilbert Garrett, Gilbert Godfrey, Oh my god,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: I don't even get it. Problem Child is a movie
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: with Gilbert Godfrey. Problem Child. He was, all right, well,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: let's just try. I think you you might not get
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: this one. There's only there's only four. Don't worry. Don't worry.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: A tackle with the floor of a Pro Bowl guard.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: That is also a hit song on the Purple Rain
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: album Isaiah Win hit on the Purple Rain Isaiah Windows Cry,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: all right, next one. Veteran Patriots pass catcher and former
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: razorback that could turn on a jukebox by hitting it.
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: These are all happy days, hey Hunter, Henry Winkler, Okay,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: what can We're not I'm not good at we got
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: two more? Not good at these? All right. Evan's gonna
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: get this one. I can feel it. The greatest Patriots
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: linemen of all time, not Cold Strange that moonlights as
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: Miley Cyrus's alter ego. John Hannah Montana, I knew it.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: He got one, he got one, all right. Last one, Paul,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: This one's for you, A pioneer on the electric guitar
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: that We're shiny shirts and coke spoons and slam sandwiches
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: on the tables. All right, let's break that out with.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: I appreciate the effort that just like that's the cat
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: when when when those come up on like Jeopardy, I
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: just I just passed like I don't I did do it.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: That had to have kicked him time he did. I mean,
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: I thought it was excellent. I don't know why why
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: it went over like we have another balloon here. No,
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: I was gonna do one of my own games. But
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: we'll do that in a second. I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: make an executive decision here. We're not gonna quite hurry
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: as much on the picks. There's only three of us,
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: were all pretty quick. We all understand side the fact
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: that we don't need to hurry. Yeah, so we'll do
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: another ten ten minutes or so. But let's take a
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: couple of calls here, Mark from Bolton, Hey, Mark has going, Hey, great, Um,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: a couple of things. I'm the guy that called this
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: summer and made and made the contention that um Remandre
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: Stevenson is the most complete three down back drafted by
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: the pat since ninth since Curtis Martin in nineteen ninety five.
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: I remember that, I remember you calling saying that and
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: it doesn't matter. Yeah, So anyway, it was all fine
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: to kind of incomplete. Everybody thought it was interesting, but
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: there's sort of nobody want to, you know, make us,
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: make us a bet on that. But either way, what
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I really call about is another bye week conversation is
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I don't think anybody's gonna get fired, you know, but
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: if phill is really honest with himself in his self scouting,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: what he would do would both Patricias solely to the
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: offensive line to concentrate it, get judged back on special
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: teams and give him accord of throw him a bone
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: and have him concentrate on getting Jake Bailey straightened out.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: And Bill called the plays like Andy Reid. I mean,
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: that's that's the whole those of my two things away
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: in on Okay, So thanks Mark. Aside from all the
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: other moving around of the coaching staff, which I think
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: is not necessary at this point in the season, Bill
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: calling plays is an interesting point to bring up now.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: To me, I think that there's a bigger issue with
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: play design than actual play sequencing. So I'm not sure
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: that like changing the play caller is gonna solve anything,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: because I don't necessarily think it's like they come their
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: game plan and their their script is bad, and it
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: just whatever. I just think their play designs are bad.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: So I don't know if that really changed as much,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: but that was sort of the feeling coming into the
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: season was that if it gets bad, then Bill will
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: just do it right. So maybe we are at the
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: point where Bill just does it. That was the exact
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: question I was I was about to bring up to you,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: was just that, like, I think the play calling is
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: the actual problem, because it seems like the play calling,
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: like any one of those guys could probably do it
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: and it'd probably be the same as it is as
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: whoever's calling the place right now. Like to your point,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: I feel like it's the design. It's the overall coordination,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: not necessarily like oh, you called the wrong play at
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: the wrong time, Matt. Like I think that they're all
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: on board with what plays are on the sheet, what
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: you know, how they want to do it. I don't know,
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: that's I just think the play caller word gets a
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: little bit too much. I wish I wish that they
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: had a little bit better sequencing sometimes to like build
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: up to stuff right, like you know, whatever the case
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: may be. But I think the biggest problem with the
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: play with like the play Action game for example, is
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: that like there's no run action in their play action,
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: Like there's no pulling guard, there's no like hard bootleg,
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: there's no like lead like the full back like Paul
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: was talking about earlier, Like there's no eye candy for
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: the defense to be like, oh you know, run key,
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: run key, it's run and now it's playing like there
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: is none of that. So that's design. It's not about
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: like actual sequencing of the plays together. It's designed. And
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: I would also look at like their red zone issues.
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: The reason why in my mind, other than the fact
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: that they they're not running the ball as well as
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: you would like inside the ten yard line, is there's
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: no horizontal stretch the defense in the red zone. There's
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: no motion, there's no there's no nothing using the width
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: of the field. And if you're not losing the width
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: of the field from inside the twenty yard line, there
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: is no vertical element to the field. So and to me,
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: it's just like these are all play design issues, like
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: none of this is about like the sequencing of the
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: plays together. Let's go to any in Vegas another call,
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Hey Vinny good, good, how are you. I'm doing pretty good. Hey,
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: I want to actually, uh, thank you guys, and I'll
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: tell you about why I'm I'm not just a lame
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: football fan, right. I have no idea what plays are
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: supposed to be made, how they're you know everything you're
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: talking about sequencing and all that. So but when I
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: look at the games, it just doesn't look right. You know,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: everything is just a mess. Every every every play is hard.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: You know, it's difficult to get the ball out. And
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: you guys have always been very objective when you talk
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: about you know, the team, right, you don't have a bias,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: You're not you know, you didn't get this information from
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: a player or from a coach, right, And so when
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: you talk about what you see, it's just about what
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: you see. Now, could it be wrong and maybe right,
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: but you're being objective. So I really appreciate that. And
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: there's the reason why since I first you know, found
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you guys, you know, years ago, ten twelve years ago,
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: I've been I've been listening faithfully, right because I can.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: I know, I can get objective criticism for praise of
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: the team. But I'm having to worry about you know,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: as they're sitting me at a bunch of craps. I
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: do have a question for you guys. And because of
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: the issues with Mac and you know, you've made it
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: very clear that he needs everything to be perfect or
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: things to work out, or for him to be a
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: Bob A Ridge, Um, quarterback? Are we looking I guess
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: in the draft that we're gonna be looking at a
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: and there might be a lot early, but we're gonna
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: be looking at a left bat ball or you know, linemen.
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: Because it seems like that's not gonna get Do we
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: lose them? I think we might have lost it, But
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: thank you, Benny, I think we've got the point. Um.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: But I well, are we looking in the draft to
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: draft in the quarterback or like that's that's the point.
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: We didn't get it what the call was. But I say, now,
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: I come back to what I said yesterday about the
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: quarterback in the draft. Like CRS drafts going number one overall,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: Bryce Young's probably going number two overall. So like you're
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: picking eighteenth, you're not you're not getting either one of them.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: So like you know, you're not getting a quarterback in
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: the draft. Like that's the whole thing about you know, well,
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: shouldn't we strive for better than than Spee's net neutral right, Well, yeah,
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: but where are you gonna find it? Yeah, and instead
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: go for guys that can make a non net neutral impact,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: maybe a tackle, maybe at linebacker, some of those spots. Um,
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: all right, I want to get to my little thing
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: real quick. I thought we would a little struggling, and
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: I want to talk about it, Paul Uh. I thought
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: we'd have, you know, time to kill. I'd be drowning.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: But you know, it's been a great show. We've talked
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: a lot of football. But um, I just want to
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: take a quick look ahead, um to some of the
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty three free agents, guys that are you know,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: do for deals, guys that are coming up, and um,
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: you know, my version of the game will do it
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: kind of quick because we do we kind of do
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: have to hurry a little bit at this point. Um
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: is just should they will they? Should they resign them?
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Will they resign them? Um? And I'm going to start
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: at the top with I think the guy that you
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: know is probably the biggest question mark, and certainly he's
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: had a great year and a great start to his career,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: Jacobe Myers. So I put, let's start with him. Guys,
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: what do you think? How are we feeling about the
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: chances that Jacobe Myers is going to stick around? Yeah,
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I mean I think that he's a guy that I
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: think I've said my piece on this. I would strongly
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: want him back. I think it's fifty fifty. I'm not
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: sure he'll be back. Yeah, I think he's going to
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: be in line to get a pretty good payday. You know.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: I saw someone wrote into me yesterday, I think and
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: had Christian Kirk's contract. He's not that kind of player.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Like I know, they have both slot receivers, but they're
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: not the same kind of slot receiver. Christian Kirk is
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: far more explosive than Jacoby Myers. But if you Jacoby
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Myers and his agent, are you looking at and say, well,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: you know, I catch eighty passes a year, and if
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: that's what this guy got, I'm the same age, why
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: shouldn't I get it? So I don't think you'd be
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: wrong to be looking for that kind of money. I
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: just don't see him getting it from the Patriots. I
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: hope Jacoby's an agent steers him in the proper direction,
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: because I do think that there's a very good chance
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: that they overplay their hand in free agency because teams
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: look at guys like Jakobe Myers and they go back
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: to their draft profiles of in terms of ceiling, right, like,
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: if we signed this guy, he's ran a four like
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: I think it's like a four six four or something
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: like that coming out of NC State. And he's not
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: an explosive athlete, right, He's not exceptionally gifted down the field.
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: So like what New England got the most out of him?
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: And if you're looking at giving him eighteen million dollars
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: a year, then you think that there's another level that
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: you can get out of that player. The other thing
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: I would push back quickly, just on Christian Kirk. That
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: deal broke everybody's minds like that. Everyone in the league
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and out of the league were like, what the heck
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: are the Jaguars doing. So I don't think that that's
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: really a deal that's going to end up holding out
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: as the years go here because that the Jaguars were
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: kind of on their own island by giving Christian Kirk
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: that contract. Just one more point I'd make on Myers
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: is just you know, all this stuff about making mac happy.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: I mean, he's the one guy he trusts right now
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: to let that guy walk. I wonder if if you know,
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: if you're trying to get Mac on board. And that's
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: why I think that's why I think he kind of
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: he does and have a good chance of coming back.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Is because one, I don't think that the money that
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: he wants or necessarily thinks he's gonna get is going
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: to be there on the free agency market. And I
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: do think that they'll prioritize him enough that if it
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: is only eleven million or twelve million dollars a year,
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: then they'll then they will do it. Brought Jonathan Jones.
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: What is he making right now? He's signed that three
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: year deal right the last year of a three year
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the number is off it's it's
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: pretty high. I think it's like nine or ten, right, yeah,
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: but it was it was. It's been a really good
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: deal on the whole. But it goes up. Need more money.
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: He's me thirty, he's almost thirty. Yeah, but he's played well, yeah,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: so I think the number goes up. He's another one,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: tough one. He's been really I think he's another one
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: that the whole system thing help helps the Patriots because
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: He's just a slot receiver in another system. Is he
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: really announced that corner for other teams. I just also
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: think that the way that they coach up corners here
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: is just different. Then that is one are you know,
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: we criticize the development, right, that's one spot that young corners,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and it's funny not the ones they draft necessarily, but
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: the ones that are undrafted they develop and they make
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: good players out of laundry list of them. I think
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: that there's a growing respect around the league of how
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: good the Patriots are coaching the secondary. And I don't
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: think everybody thinks that they can just pluck Jonathan Jones
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: out of the Patriots system and get the same production
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: out of him. I mean, and I know he's not
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: painting a good picture of free agency. Hopefully the other
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: teams won't interest, won't really value the free agents, and
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: they can come back. How about Damien Harris, I think
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: we probably I probably feel he's been here, gonna walk,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: and they've got some guys through replace behind him. Isaiah
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: Wynn probably not going to be back, Nelson Agalore same,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: probably not going to be back. You know, some interesting
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: guys the one and in the defense that have come
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: in this year, and I'll kind of group them together
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: just so we can get through these. But Gilani, Tavai,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: Mac Wilson, Ray Kua McMillan, and Jibril Peppers four guys
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: that have kind of, you know, given you some different options.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: I think Tavia will be back. He sounds like that
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: kind of guy. The other three will probably go. Peppers
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: has had a market at the deadline, so there's gonna
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: be teams that are going to look at him as
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: somebody that can play more of like a startering role
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: at safety versus being like a third or four safety here.
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: So if I was him, I'd want to play more.
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: And he probably took a one year deal, you know
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: when he did, saying I'll prove to everybody I'm healthy,
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: i can play, and I'm back, and then he'll go
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: out and do the Evan thing. Last one, though, is
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: is DMC. Do you think any chance maybe they say, hey,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: let's let's make an effort to resign Peppers and finally
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: move on from according. I know I've missed on this
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: so many times. I thought the last year was the
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: last year, like three years in a row, so I
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: won't rule it out. I think this is it for him,
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: But I won't rule it out. They've kicked the can
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: down the road on free safety for yeah a while.
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: They brought in all the Patrick Chung replacements that they
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: could ever possibly need, but that middle of the field
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: range safety they Evan's it like, they don't have anybody
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: else on the roster, So if he's gone, then that
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: becomes a big priority because you can't run their coverage
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: system without And that's what he's playing better this year too,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: though I think that last year that's just going to
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: feed into my my last point here. Um, you know,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Matt Bowen posted a bunch of you know what coverage
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: his teams are playing. I mean, the Patriots are still
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: second in the league and cover one man free forty
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: three point seven percent. Um, you know cover two. We
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: talked a little bit this week about the rage of
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: Cover two taking away their thirty first in the league
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: with twelve point four. It's, you know, just interesting, is
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: Evan pointed out? Who's that one? McCardy usually right? I mean,
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: I know they move them around, but that's it. Like
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: I would really be curious, um, eight weeks from now
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: what those numbers look like, because I'll bet they'll change. Yeah,
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: as they as they evolve, well well as they plague
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: passing off which they haven't really seen. That's a good point.
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: That's a good point. I like it. And with that,
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: Matt oh, it's it's amazing. Right. Every week it takes
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: you by surprise if we didn't hurry, But Paul, tell
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: us what happened last week? All right? So last week
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: here all right about the same. But there's always some
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: that stand out amongst the rest. Evan Mike nine and four,
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: Paul and Fred eight and five, crappy, crappy week from
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Paul with the spread, with the spread Evan, Paul and
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: Fred seven five and one, Mike six six and one.
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: Look at the boss though, Fred A good week. Crappy. Yeah,
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: anytime I think it's not here, anytime you're with Fred, crappy.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: It's not becoming of the Picks leader that I am.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: So uh. The numbers for the season, I remain on
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: top eighty four fifty one and one, Mike nipping at
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: my heels eighty two fifty three and one, and Fred
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: seventy four sixty one and one. Evan continue used to
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: set the pace and I am nothing if not fair.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: As you know fifty seven and thirty one, and you
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: might say, well, is that good? Yes, that's a little
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: bit better than me sixty six forty eight percentage to
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: six twenty one. So Evan has a better winning percentage
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: than I do. It's how you feel about percentage, about
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: the long haul guy. It's about the long haul guy
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: with the spread. I am eighty fifty three in three.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Still just a phenomenal toward pace. Uh, Mike sixty seven
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: sixty six and three and Fred fifty five seventy eight
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: and three, Evan forty two forty three and three. I'm
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: getting there getting My winning percentage with the spread is
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: five ninety nine, down from six ozho three last week
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: because I only went seven and five. I can't believe
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: I'm losing this guy. I can tell he's a little
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: upset about it. I had a bad high standard. I
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: had a bad way mind for him. I keep telling
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: you every week, though it's coming. That did like a
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: three and thirty is coming. You can't do this, You
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: can't like if I Bill can do it. If I
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: put one hundred bucks on every game and I went
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: eighty fifty three and three, I wouldn't be here talking
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: to you clowns. Anymore, I'd be home. It was my
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: understanding that there would be no math for all. Right, Well,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: let's let's start it off tonight with an absolute barn
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: burner down there in the NFC South. We've got Atlanta
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: at Carolina. You know, I'm really glad that the Fenwick
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: game was moved to Thursday night so I do not
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: have to worry about not hitting the last button on
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: Atlanta at Carolina, Atlanta by three p J Walker, I
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: don't know, J Walker. I guess you get to go
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: first this weekend. Oh boy, this is a tough one.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Atlanta. Uh. I think they win by
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: a field goal, so take them to cover. I don't
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: know this game is. I can't even give a taken.
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: It's horrible. It's an insult to football. Will you try
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: to go next? Will you turn it on? Yeah? Probably
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: for a minute. I'll definitely watch the Bruins. There have
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: been there have been more than one of these streamed
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: games that I haven't seen a play because I'll watch
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: the Bruins, you know, and as opposed to you know,
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: load nap the app and pull it up on my phone. Yeah, Chuck,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: he's coming back. You know, watch I can't really watch
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: stuff on my phone it's too small. Put headphones on
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: the sound makes it seem bigger. Oh, okay, I'll take Atlanta.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: Uh sure, I'll going against my normal Thursday night routine,
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: especially when there's two bad teams. I always take the
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: home team on Thursday nights. But yeah, I can't. I'll
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: take Atlanta too. All right, we go to one o'clock
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: or sorry, nine thirty am. This is the first Germany
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: game here. Fred is there in person. Tom Brady is
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: there in person. We hope they don't cross pass. Uh.
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: Seattle versus Tampa Bay Tampa by two and a half.
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: The only thing that Tampa has on this game over
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Seattle is Brady. Right, Like, the Seahawks are playing much
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: better football right right now than Tampa Bay. So I'm
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: actually gonna take Seattle because this is not a home game,
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: right for Tampa, Like, do you know neither team is
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: at home? I think Seattle is playing better football. I
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: am all in on Jina Smith. I think Juina has
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: been awesome. Some might call him the comeback player of
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: the year. What does that mean? Really, I don't really know,
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: but I picked him. Uh, I am taking Tampa. I
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: think Evan said everything right. I think Seattle has been
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: the better team in every week of this season than Tampa.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna be a sucker. Um, and I'm gonna say
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: I don't know. Brady kind of looked like finally we
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: did something positive, even though I think that was all
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: rams related to that last drive. Soft coverage they played
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: on that drive that was pathetic. I'm gonna take Tampa
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: to win the game. Um, but I don't feel great
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: about this pick. Yeah, that's a tough one. I mean
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: in in a good way. I mean I think it'll
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: be kind of an interesting game to flip on them
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: on Sunday morning. Um, as Fred would say, Paul has
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: the correct chance. I'm gonna go with Tampa two. But
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: I don't. I don't feel strongly about it. Okay, and
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: just let everybody know, because I know how much people
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: follow the worst picker in the contest. Fred has Carolina
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: both ways, UH, and Tampa and Tampa both ways. He did,
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: he did give me his picks. I'm so surprised that
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: Fred took Tom Brady. They've kissed. Uh. Sunday at one o'clock,
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: we have the Minnesota Vikings against the Buffalo Bills could
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: be a huge game. Josh Allen not at practice today, though,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: could be he's questionable. M M yeah, this would be
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: what are we doing? Uh? Minnesota Buffalo. I just gotta
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: just gotta text. Sorry, you know, men pay, I can't multitask.
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: I gotta tex That's why I can't put the phone
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: on when I'm watching the Bruins have Minnesota at Buffalo.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: Buffalo buy five and a half, So that's dropped a
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: lot um. Yeah, I think it's down to three and
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: a half. Actually, but it's this morning. It was five
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: and a half. It opened at nine and a half.
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I just realized that I got a text. Is probably
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: isn't the Love Island audience that we're looking for, But anyways,
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: Love Island a good one. Vikings the Vikings, I think
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: you've seen it a couple of times. I think you, Paul,
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: you brought this up that if they played case Keenum,
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: it's four backup quarterbacks. Yeah, they've played yeah, and I incredible,
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: it's it's it's it's a string of luck. I know
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: they saw Bridgewater and yeah, Thompson against Miami, Yeah, right,
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: which is probably the best win at Miami. Yeah, and
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: has a huge It's just interesting more less about this game,
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: but more about looking ahead to that Thanksgiving night game.
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: And you know that game is going to be built
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: up as maybe the eight or nine and one vikings
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: against the Patriots and maybe not real a real eight
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: or nine. And give some credit for going to Buffalo
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: and winning this game, even if case Keenum wins plays. Sorry,
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: I think that the Bills are gonna win this game.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I think the Bills are gonna cu ever, and I
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: think that Josh Allen's gonna play and I think that's
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: how and he'll be out in the year because the
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: Patriots played him in two weeks. Uh. So you am
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: I going before you or after you? Okay, Um, I
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: am going to I am going to take Buffalo to
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: win the game. I am going to take the points.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: I think it'll be a close game. I think Keenam
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: is a capable backup that that won't necessarily destroy the game.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: He could not. I think he's had some success, most
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: success he had with Minnesota that year. Um, but I'm
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: gonna take Buffalo at home. I think that's a hard
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: place to play. I don't think Minnesota. Everybody knows how
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: I feel about the Vikings. I don't think they're ready
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: to win this game. You know, I'm gonna get a
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: little weird. I'm gonna take Minnesota to win this one.
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: I can totally see Josh Allen trying to play and
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: maybe throwing a couple of picks and oh, maybe we
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: should have done this. I'm gonna roll the dice though.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with the Vikes. It's just Sean McDermott
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: like he's he's oh, he's a former wrestler, right, Like
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: they just want to have that like tough guy energy play.
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: You can both think he's gonna play. Yeah, because I
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: think that that's sort of their mantra. In Buffalo, we're Buffaloe.
- 1:51:08Speaker 1: I think he sits this hole here and maybe maybe
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: next week and then they'll have uh, you know, I
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: think they have the Jets again and then the Patriots,
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: and I think they will want him back for the
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: division games. I gotta hurry. Uh, we really don't. Sunday
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: at one, we have Oh, by the way, Fred Buffalo
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: both ways, Buffalo Detroit at Detroit basketball, Uh, Chicago by three.
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: I'm taking Justin Fields. He's on He's in fougo since
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: Monday night. Fl so on a heater. You're welcome, he is,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: You're welcome. Bears. I love Justin Fields. Um, I will
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: take the Bears as well. Yep, I'm on the Bears
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: as well. Uh did you all right? Chicago for Freddy?
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: To Chicago for Freddy? Sunday at one? Denver in a
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: rare away game at Tennessee. So this is great. Fred's
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: not here when Denver's on the road. Uh, Tennessee, excuse me?
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: By three, Tennessee by three, coming off a tough loss
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: to Kansas City. I like Wilson. What's this wrist band
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: thing I've been hearing about with Russell Wilson. I think
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: he's like not wearing well, Russell Wilson wouldn't wear a
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: wrist band, and Gino Smith wears one. And Pete Carroll
- 1:52:20Speaker 1: put another check in Geno Smith's category because he also
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: wears a wrist band. With our old friend Shane Waldron
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: running that offense in Seattle, he was he was here
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: with us. Yeah, guy, I would say, I'm gonna go Titans.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: I like the Broncos in this game for a lot
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: of reasons, but like, there's something about Tennessee that they
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: always just win games that they're not supposed to win.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: They almost did it last week. Yeah. Yeah, I want
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: to take Tennessee too. I like their toughness, and I
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: just if Russell Wilson turns it around, then I'll start
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: thinking about the Broncos differently. The Broncos defense is terrific.
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: I don't see Derrick Henry running all over them. Yeah,
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: but I think he'll run just enough to put some
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: points on the board. Yeah. I'm with you, guys. Tennessee
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: for me, Tennessee for Fred as well. Sunday at one,
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: we have the Jacksonville Jaguars at the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Kansas City by nine and a half. I mean, Chiefs
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: both ways best team in football. Yeah, I agree. I
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: think Super Bowl favor right now now? Is that because
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: of Josh Allen or yes, doesn't matter. Yeah, They're clearly
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: the two best teams in the league. I feel like
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: Evans made at an advancement there. What do you mean
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: I thinks are willing to say that about three or
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: four weeks ago. Buff Yeah, and I actually think Buffalo
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: has kind of shown some chinks in the armor, not
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: the least of which is the injury. Obviously that's a
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: game changer, but kind of getting run on a little
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: bit lately. I will take Kansas City as well. I'm
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: with you guys, Freddy as well. Yeah, I'm on Kansas City,
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: all right. Sunday at one, Miami Dolphins are welcoming the
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns, Miami by three and a half, three and
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: a half, Miami to win, Miami to cover by a lot.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: I mean, how how many points is that Brown's defense
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: going to give up to Bailey Zappy? Right? They gave
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: a bit? How many to Bailey Zappi and now they
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: had to play? Yeah, you better hope you are right.
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: This is one that you and I will get some blowback.
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: I'm with Evan on this. I'll take Miami. But you
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: know how Patriots face How are the Dolphins only favorite?
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: You know how Patriots fans look at these things. I
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: don't know, how are the only favorite by three and
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: a half. You watch, Cleveland will win this game twenty
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: to seventeen, and everybody's I would have said thirteen and
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: a half, three and a half to two. MVP candidate,
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: I'm saying in Miami too, Freddy as well, all right, Uh,
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: Sunday at one another one Houston Texans, probably the worst
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: team in the league at the New York Giants, Giants
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: by six and a half. Coming off the buy six
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: and a half. I still like the Giants both ways.
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: This This Texans team stinks. They stink, Mike, They're not
- 1:55:00Speaker 1: good language. Yeah, I will take the Giants both ways too.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: I was thinking about taking the points, but I I
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: was thinking about taking the points too, but I'm not
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: going to. I think the Giants will win. Freddie has
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: the Giants both ways. Sunday at one New Orleans Saints
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: at the Pittsburgh Steelers gross Saints by two and a half.
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: What a terrible game. I'm gonna take the Saints. I
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: think I just trust them more right now to put
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: something together. I just don't know what the Steelers are
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: good at, Like, what what's the thing that the Steelers
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: can say we're good at this? I think nothing. So
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: I think I totally agree. I'm I have the Saints too,
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: So does Freddy. I saw Jeremy Fowler was trying to
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: take teams that are outside of the playoff structure and
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: predicting the Patriots is one of the teams. Totally get
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: it right, they're like a blink out of the playoffs. Now,
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: so Pittsburgh was one of the teams that you thought that, like,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: what have you seen from Pittsburgh that would lead you
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: to believe that that's a playoff team. That's the same
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: thing that I know, I didn't read it, but probably
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: just you know, Tomlin's never had a losing season. I
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: think that's that's the fact, right, that's the little trip. Yea.
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: So maybe he thinks that they'll get to five hundred.
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: They're like two and six, right figure, Yeah, so you're
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: looking at seven and two they need to go to
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: have a winning season, Like, are they capable of going
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: seven and two the rest of the way, Let's say
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: clone t J. Watton and that's just to go nine
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: and eight, which I don't think he's supposed to be playing. Yeah,
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: either this week or next week, that's not gonna matter.
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: I'm on New Orleans too, all right less, they have
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: a ridiculously easy schedule, which is possible. We're at the
- 1:56:39Speaker 1: four or five games on Sunday Indianapolis and head coach
- 1:56:41Speaker 1: Jeff Saturday visit Josh McDaniels and the desperately in need
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: of a win, Raiders Raiders by six and a half.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: So part of me thinks that this Jeff Saturday thing
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: works one game right, where they like rally around him
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: and the Patriots fans, they get a win. But also
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: a bigger part of me looks at Sam ell Ellinger's
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: tape last week and is just like, I can't see it.
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: So I'll take the Raiders, but I will take the
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: Colts to keep it close. Yeah, I am right with Evan.
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: I I'm taking the Raiders because I just think there's
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: so much better. But I'll take the points because I
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: don't trust whatever's going on in those second halves that
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: they can't score any points. I don't understand what's going on.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I haven't watched any of it. It's three seventeen point
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: leads in one year. Is amazing. It's amazing. How also
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: the tides have turned here locally about Josh McDaniels because
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: like now I feel like we're the boombox right, like
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: please come back Josh, where like wait, when he left,
- 1:57:41Speaker 1: I feel like some people had soured on on McDaniels locally,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: and now all of a sudden, he's like the savior
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: that we need back. Come back, Josh, I'm gonna take
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: Las Vegas. I'm gonna lay the points though. Yeah, so Freddy,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna they're gonna hammer him hur Twenty five Sunday,
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Dallas at green Bay, Dallas by five. I like the Cowboys,
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: but I think this is going to be a close game.
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: I did a lot of history between these two teams.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: I think Aaron Rodgers gets up for playing Dallas like
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: I think that that that means something to him to
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: play the Cowboys. So I like Dallas, but I think
- 1:58:13Speaker 1: it's a field goal game. I'm gonna take Dallas both ways.
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: And I just look at the way Dallas has played
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: defense and the way green Bay has played offense, and
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: I can't imagine that that's the this is the game
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: that's gonna change. But you know, at Lambo, who knows
- 1:58:25Speaker 1: stranger things, I'm with you on Dallas. I'm gonna lay
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: the points to West battle Arizona at the ROMs. The
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: ROMs could be without Matthew Stafford and they're favored by three.
- 1:58:39Speaker 1: I think they owned the Cardinals, right, that's the that
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: is and one of the rules of the NC West rules, Yes, yes,
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: what are the rules? Don't go against the rules. It's
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: tough to pick this one without knowing what Matthew Stafford's
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: situation is going to be. Um, who's the backup? Is
- 1:58:54Speaker 1: it still? What's his name? Forget? I can see it,
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: I can't too hear it. Just um, gotta hurry. I
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: gonna take the Cardinals. I don't like it, though, Paul is.
- 1:59:12Speaker 1: I'm watching the end of this college basketball game. Something
- 1:59:15Speaker 1: we have to hur n uh? Yeah, do they win
- 1:59:17Speaker 1: this game? What else they too? Something? Oh? Bell? Oh yeah,
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: that's a big upset. Um. All right, so I'm gonna
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: take the lar Dude, who did you take? Ff? I
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: took Arizona because of the backup quarterback. Yeah. I think
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: that sometimes, Um, these things that are you know, doesn't matter,
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: like they probably are looking at like what we finally
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: have a chance to beat the Rams and then they don't.
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: I think there's something wrong in Arizona. There's certainly something
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: wrong with the Rams. That's that's inarguable. But I'll roll
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: the dice. We'll be figuring out the backup quarterback. I
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: can't think of even but I'm eighteen. I'm gonna I'm
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: gonna take I'm gonna take Arizona. I'm gonna take. It's
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: not number eighteen, that's Grono. Oh yeah you took. You
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: took who Arizona? And I'll take the points. Okay, two
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: more games to go, it's yeah, and that's the Rams
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: for Freddie John Wolford Wolford, Yeah, I'm glad I took
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: the Rams, all right, took Arizona. So fred listen to
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: this back and say, see it's two o'clock and they're
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: not done yet. Yeah, you didn't hurry. Of course. I
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: watched the whole the all end of the Louisville game
- 2:00:23Speaker 1: Sunday at a twenty the lack at San Francisco San
- 2:00:27Speaker 1: fran by seven. That's a big spread. It is the
- 2:00:32Speaker 1: biggest spread. I like the forty nine ers, but yeah,
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: I like just to be close enough that the Chargers
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: cover that. I think justin Herbert primetime game, I like
- 2:00:43Speaker 1: him to play. Well, I'm gonna do this, excuse me,
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: same thing, San Fran and I'll take the uh the points.
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the Chargers with the upset. How about that?
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: Why point? Now that's an upset. Freddie has San Francisco
- 2:00:57Speaker 1: and last one Washington at Philadelphia Monday Night football Philly
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: by ten and a half, Philly by a million. Yeah,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: let's see if I can write that in the spa
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: um million. So I am going to take the points.
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: I just think that's a lot of points in a
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: divisional game. Are you seeing what's happening with the commanders
- 2:01:17Speaker 1: right now? Yeah, but as he's still going to play.
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: Yeah that the statement today they got sued. Yeah, no
- 2:01:22Speaker 1: by the age, But that's not what is that going
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: to have to do with the whole person? Oh the
- 2:01:28Speaker 1: organization's a complete dumpster fire. But I'll take the points,
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: all right. That'll do it for us. You have to
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: make a pick. Yeah, you know, I did. I did.
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: Don't be don't be host boy, and just avoid the
