Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and welcome to another episode
• 0:05
of the United Church of Tonga Youth Devotion.
• 0:09
Our Bible passage for today is taken from Matthew chapter 16, verse 6.
• 0:15
It says, And Jesus said to them, Watch out and beware of the living of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
• 0:24
Our theme today, Stay Alert. Have you ever paid attention when the ladies at
• 0:30
  church make yeast pancakes?
• 0:33
They add a few teaspoons of yeast to the flour, allowing the dough to rise.
• 0:40
With just a few cups of flour, the women can whip up a whole stack of pancakes.
• 0:46
In today's Bible verse, Jesus warns his disciples about the leaven or the yeast
• 0:52
  of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
• 0:56
Here Jesus compares Levin to the teachings of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.
• 1:02
These Jewish religious leaders were promoting false doctrine.
• 1:07
Once these false doctrines penetrate through to someone, they can quickly multiply.
• 1:13
The Pharisees added to the truth of the scriptures.
• 1:17
At the same time, the Sadducees removed parts of the scriptures to fulfill their
• 1:24
  selfish agendas and traditions.
• 1:27
This suggests they did not recognize scripture as the ultimate authority of God's word.
• 1:36
The Pharisees worshipped their traditions and themselves more than their desire
• 1:41
  to obey the scriptures fully.
• 1:43
The Sadducees valued some parts of the scriptures more than others.
• 1:49
In other words, they were selective about which aspects of the scriptures to follow.
• 1:56
They asserted that there were no resurrection, no angels, and no spirit.
• 2:03
Do you encounter similar teachings today?
• 2:06
Jesus' warning to his disciples remains very relevant today.
• 2:12
There are numerous false doctrines and teachers in our neighborhoods at present.
• 2:18
Thus, we are cautioned to stay alert.
• 2:23
That's why it is incredibly important that we know our Bible.
• 2:28
We need to study the scriptures diligently and with the guidance of the Holy
• 2:33
Spirit, we can discern when false teachings and doctrines come our way.
• 2:40
As the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy, preach the word, be prepared in season and out of season.
• 2:50
Correct, rebuke, and courage with great patience and careful instruction.
• 2:58
Failure to be equipped with the Word of God, these false teachings and doctrines
• 3:04
can easily manipulate their way into our individual lives,
• 3:09
our families, and of course, the Church. Let us pray.
• 3:15
Lord Jesus, thank you for the reminder today.
• 3:19
Please help me stay alert to false doctrines and teachings.
• 3:25
Please continue to work in my life to equip myself with your word so that I
• 3:33
may be ready in season and out of season to share your good news in word and deeds.
• 3:41
In your holy name I pray, amen.
