- 0:27[SPEAKER_02]: put the jets up there and the blown this way.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_04]: That's what happened before he took office.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_04]: I want to start off by acknowledging a wonderful weekend at the Lake Club, which is so pristine and special in Poland, Ohio outside Boardman and Youngstown.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_04]: Bigger fundraiser with John Daley for United Way.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_04]: We raised 300,000 dollars.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: Congratulations.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and daily was in rare form.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and I'll leave it at that.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_04]: I think you can isn't that just.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_04]: This is four, no, I didn't make it out of a rare form for us.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_04]: I put chocolate with them again.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_04]: That's his personal entertainer.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_04]: John was doing some singing as well on Sunday night, the big fundraiser.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_04]: Should we hand them with their shooting on Monday?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_04]: I saw it.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_04]: I saw it.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_04]: That's pretty cool.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_04]: Well, siring, how does it what she was dressed in all black that day?
- 1:22[SPEAKER_04]: And the knife hole is extremely difficult hole at the Lake Club, and Zach Duke was there a touring champions pro along with daily on that tour, and he put his in the water in Lake Evans.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_04]: Hanlon was short, and they had only put one about 10 feet away.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's I've seen her.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: She's very good.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: Did you play or you were just they played Monday?
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_04]: The Audi, they were just they were shooting a show.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, segments of holes, but it was also interesting because, you know, daily with Drew from the college, you know, we've been the media outlet here at Big Play for the college company's championship and firestone.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_04]: and daily with Drew on Sunday because his shoulder was bothering him and he was 15 over anyway.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_04]: He said that course is just too tough for him.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_04]: It is age now, but he had to go to the hospital on Monday morning, getting him out.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_04]: Am I right?
- 2:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_04]: Um, and he's fine.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he was back at the Lake Club drinking in the morning, so you know that everything is.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_04]: all systems go, but I do want to send out a special thanks in an acknowledgment to Ed Moranski, the owner of the Lake Club, the former Super Bowl champion, Lyme and what the Raiders want to Michigan played for Shembeckler when it rose ball.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_04]: Leo Henry, he's so special, everybody knows who Leo is in the valley and Bob Hannan, a long time broadcaster in the young town area.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we do want to start!
- 2:43[SPEAKER_04]: with the midsummer classic all-star game in which the american league put on quite a pitching show guys uh it's the tenth shutout in all star history the national league only got three hits of this game that ties for the second few is never no national league runners even reach second base the american league now has won 23 of the last 29 and has a record of
- 3:13[SPEAKER_04]: Bellinger and rights were the heroes offensively, and as a matter of fact, the last time they became the first Yankees to both record RBIs in a game since 1962.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: When Roger Maris and Tommy Tresh did it for the New Yorkers, also the last time a team in this case, the Yankees had two players driving in a run in the first inning.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_04]: was 1977 that was Joe Morgan and George Foster believe and are not quite a performance.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_04]: The American League pitchers had 15 strikeouts in this game.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_04]: That's one shy of the record, Dylan Seas.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: striking out three of the four batters that he faced in the first inning and that's first time since 06 when Brad Penny had three the seventh all-time ever and Pedro Martinez 99 Dave Steve in 83 Jim Palmer in 77 Warren Spion when he was a kid in 49 at Carole Hubble in 34 it was a special all-star game and victory
- 4:28[SPEAKER_04]: for the American League.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, great to see Cade Smith have a great outing Messick.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: I know Bazana went over to, but just to be there.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think we've all seen the clip of Bryce Harper when Cade strikes some out and he's like, whoa, you know, he even before going out because this kid's good.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: And that's just, that's the beauty of a person.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_02]: It's the one thing I love about the baseball.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: Star game is everybody's got a representative.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_02]: They do a great job of getting everybody in the game.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: So they can play.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Homer and Derby was phenomenal.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: I loved that on Monday.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_04]: fans with the, yeah, with the, from St. Louis.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Walker and Schwartz.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and Schwartz had to have a little comeback of his own.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: He was down there for a little bit and he turned it on.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: So it, you know, is just so much fun and I think even Ryan and I were talking about the yesterday show, Bruce, just the fact that you're almost at a hundred games for most of these teams.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not quite, they were beyond the halfway point, but it's usually the one.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_02]: That you see teams kind of take that little reset, but it's also do you start talking more trades, the GMs have had some days to think things over.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_02]: We already saw trade with the brewers this week, but yeah, but for the for the for the game itself, I mean, there's just always something special about it with the broadcast.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_04]: In the second inning, a 1, 2, 3, frame facing the 5, 6, and 7 hitters, Mac Muncie, pop out as the LBs, a ground out 6, 3, and Brandon Marsh struck out, Kate Smith, 12 pitch, 6 thinning with two strikeouts, Corbin Carroll, and as Matt said, Bryce Harper, Harper was quoted as saying about Smith's split, or he said,
- 6:03[SPEAKER_04]: That's, uh, uh, that's disgusting.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_04]: That was his quote.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_04]: 99.4 mile par hour fastball that he struck out Carol on and of course this man also said, uh, Bazana going over to in the contest.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_04]: But what did you guys think Ryan, you chime in first, um,
- 6:25[SPEAKER_04]: The announcers were getting some slack.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_04]: Did you see that guy's then, uh, smokes and what's the play by play guys named Davis?
- 6:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh gosh, I can't remember, but Bruce will tell you what and you just talked about Parker Messick.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you caught this on the broadcast and I understand they have to talk to Verlander.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: He made his retirement statement, um, but the whole time during Parker Messick's inning, which was very quick by the way as you mentioned, it was Jacob Miserowski,
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: uh... camslet schlittler and just in verland or talking the whole entire time i don't even get to enjoy watching parker messic pitch and i don't start don't get me started about welfare i don't know if i thought it was a joe davis was it was there and then they had you know the other thing was it was funny about uh... net flicks because they had their own thing for the home run derby and people were getting on eight while a ride screwed the verlander thing he's talking in just in verlander like he's somebody else he's like oh yeah you've been dfa twice in verlander was
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: No, I have it.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think he thought he was talking to somebody.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was awkward because then the other part was they were I can't remember it was they were discussing Basically the integrity of the game and how you have these guys up.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_02]: You're talking about these things when they're known steroid users or things like that It's like their broadcast like it was up to Netflix.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm picking whoever they wanted to do it.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, smoke is fine
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: I think like a lot of people I've become disenchanted with Ken Rosenthal, after everybody saw that clip of him last year, everybody thinks he's a big jerk, so I kind of whatever, but you know, I think the idea that they want to turn this into a television show instead of a game, they want to have the guys miced up.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: They want the personalities to come out.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_02]: They want to be able to get to know these guys a little bit more And I get it.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're making up Bryce Harper, but it's like if you're an average baseball fan You know who Bryce Harper is you want to grow with a game Introduce people to Jacob, Missarowski, introduce them to some of the next wave of stars Not even the guardians guys.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not talking about them, but some of these other guys How many people know Jordan Walker is here?
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I will say to Matt, I did like though, beginning of the game, miced up, you get a hear Dylan Sees, talk to Shay Langoliers.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: You get a hear kind of what they're gonna grow before they throw away the give them an idea to watch out for this.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was cool.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_02]: There's varying levels to it.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like you said, the will-feral thing, I think kind of got a little stale like that was a little too much.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_02]: And again, just trying to make it a production.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: Instead of the game, this is their only opportunity to do it.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_02]: They're not gonna do it in games that matter.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, there is some element that it's cool that you you hear the guys and what goes on and I really I've always been super interested in this and what is what a pitchcom sound like I'd love to be able to tune in to hear what the pitchcom was saying and like what pitch they were throwing like that kind of stuff, but yeah, I mean overall it was still you're going to watch it.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's it's one of the marquee events for baseball year and you know, when fine ever well outside of your cam and arrow getting plunked.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to say most everybody got healthy.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I've got to take a
- 9:19[SPEAKER_04]: I have to defend Ken Rosenthal.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_04]: I know Matt doesn't care for him.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_04]: He can use to watch my television show when I was on the regional sports network.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_04]: Adam was a guest a couple of times.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_04]: Was he a nice guy?
- 9:29[SPEAKER_04]: He's great and always was very complimentary of yours truly.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_04]: So that humbled me.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: Well, maybe I'll take back some of the bad things I've said about that.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_04]: Don't you dare see anything about his bookties.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_04]: Don't know.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_02]: Don't you dare go there.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: He goes.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_02]: We get a whole conversation about both ties.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_02]: Not on Ken Rosenthal.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_04]: And in Smoltz too, I've interviewed Smoltz and you know what I admire most about Smoltz.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think he does a great job.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_04]: I put him in the same category at one time.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_04]: I thought Johnny Miller was the greatest analyst of any sport and I miss him.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_04]: Now he's retired.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_04]: But you know, Smoltz was one of the best-durning pictures in his day and, you know, say young one, then he goes to closing
- 10:12[SPEAKER_04]: and was incredibly unique because unless there was a runner on second or third and first place was occupied.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_04]: He would wind up.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_04]: You don't see Closer's winding up.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_04]: He would wind up and he was outstanding.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_04]: He was the best Closer in baseball when he transitioned.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_04]: Then he goes back to being a starting pitcher and was just as great as he always was.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_04]: So I have a tremendous admiration for him.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_04]: I know that Davis was taking a lot of slack for being two praise worthy of the Dodgers.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know my god, I mean me at all though.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Real quick, I'm sorry to derail.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: Who's who?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry because this guy's obviously a legend.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I believe the broadcaster, I think it's the game keys.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: He played the Guardians during the playoff series and he just sounded so distraught when the Guardians would win a game against the Yankees Like you couldn't be more biased Our Joe Buck you talk about Michael K Michael Joe Buck you're thinking it's a holder gentleman.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_04]: Oh Sterling John Sterling he just retired.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: He just retired.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_02]: Does it sound familiar?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_02]: Wait, what was it on the national broadcast so then is Joe Buck?
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: He's not with your buddy, but he was, now he's with the SPN, but doing the world series, everybody used to joke, not that the Yankees, I know you're talking with the Yankees, but in the Cubs world series against the the guard against the Indians, it was the bias was pretty clear, not but his father was correct.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_04]: Um, when Harry Carrey left St. Louis, um, he took over as the main voice of the St. Louis Cardinals and was there for years.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_04]: And also, for mutual radio, he did Monday night football with Hank Stramm and the chemistry was absolutely phenomenal.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_04]: Jack Buck, Joe's dad was a legend and a tremendous broadcast.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure I didn't drive this absolutely horribly, but cost us.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I don't even think he does play by playing anymore.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't even know Bob Costa's.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_02]: I see him for the Olympics every four years.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_04]: I don't even know.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I believe it.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: Anyway, and I will say, for Joe Buck, on Monday night football, you talk about the tears.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think for football gets any better than Buck and Aekman, for pro football.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think they are number one, Brady's gotten a lot better, certainly.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: Romo's bottom.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: go with nance.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_04]: I'm sorry.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I like nance.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so smooth, so professional.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_02]: They're my, would you agree that nance is the greatest golf broadcaster of all time?
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, yeah.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, tremendous.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_04]: There's no question about course.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_04]: You guys are too young to realize a Kurt Gaudi was the
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: Greatest national of all time.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_04]: He did the world series.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_04]: He did the Super Bowl.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_04]: He did the NCAA championship and Just was in the class by himself Tony Kubak used to do the world series with and the former Yankee shortstop What let's do
- 13:04[SPEAKER_04]: shift gears guys and talk about what remains for the guardians as we head down the stretch now approaching the month of August.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_04]: We are in a virtual tie with the white socks.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_04]: They were actually a percentage point ahead of us at 50 45 the 51 46.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_04]: Minnesota's right there three.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_04]: Detroit's not out of it at six and a half.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_04]: I think Kansas City's toast, but the guardians have Pittsburgh this weekend, and then Minnesota at home before hitting the road at Tampa Bay and Cincinnati, and then returning home to Arizona as we begin the month of August.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_04]: The white socks are at Toronto, at Texas, home to Houston, home to the Yankees, and at Tampa Bay, and as I said on last week's show fellas, I want to see if they're for real because they've got a tougher schedule than we do, not that any major league team can be taken for granted, but I'm still not a believer that they can beat our guardians.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm with you.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I've made the decoration.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_02]: I feel like the Guardians are going to win the AL Central.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to get Jose back.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_02]: I know I'm waiting for Chris Anthony to sit up there and go.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_02]: We're getting Jose back is like making a trade.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, great.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_02]: Go make a trade too, please.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_02]: But I just, yeah, I'm with you, Bruce.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing about that white socks team.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_02]: that I look at I go that's what they do I know they hit a lot of homeruns they hit more homeruns than we do I get that that's today's game right and I had an interesting debate on yesterday's show about when you get to the playoffs or the other the arms or the other have the power at the plate but I just think also a guardian's team
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: that has gone through this before.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of these guys, and I know what the lotters knew and on how Martinez is new.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: But a lot of those guys were here last year when they had the most epic comeback in Major League Baseball history to come back and win the division.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like that mindset that they are never out of it.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_02]: when you're still in it like you you have the mindset we're not out of this but you're actually are really very much in it tied for the lead in the division.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked about strength, the schedule.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's the easiest on the way out for baseball.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: It's just going to be and I don't want to put this in the e-phos, but here we are.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be avoiding injuries.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_02]: You've already had two that have impacted your lineup.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_02]: Odd's tell you there's another one that might happen, but I just feel better about this team being able to overcome it.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: We've already seen a little change.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_02]: They've read down the lot of the pitching rotation.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_02]: They bump by be down here and start with Gavin Williams, Cantillo.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_02]: So moving him back down might help a little bit as the rotation goes on.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to have to be your strength.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I just, I, I, I,
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: Bruce when when Jose gets back that first that bad.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_02]: This is going to feel so good.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to feel like the lineup ahead of him and behind him.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_04]: The question about it, everybody will be better because of merely his presence in that lineup.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_04]: You know, I changed my tune on this a few weeks ago.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_04]: I said we had to win the division in order to get in the playoffs.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_04]: And if you look at these American League teams,
- 15:54[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, my goodness, outside of the Yankees and Tampa Bay in the east.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, Cleveland, a half a percentage point, whatever it is, behind the white seksis, we start play tomorrow.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_04]: Uh, I mean, we're in the wild card.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, Texas is leading the west with a 49 and 47 record.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_04]: Seattle's a game and a half behind them and Houston three out.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_04]: So, I've changed my tune on this because, you know, Italy play is the reason.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_04]: But I mean, certainly it's feasible that a wild card could come out of this division.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you think about what is it?
- 16:28[SPEAKER_02]: Eight teams that aren't in the playoffs are within six five six games, which five and six in baseball, that's people who you can make that up in a week.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: You really can.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_02]: It takes a little longer than that.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_02]: but come trade deadline time even at this point in the season.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_02]: There are these teams that still believe like right now the Astros, they're only at game and a half bet that here's the extra wild card part of it too.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: Now that you get three, the Mariners and twins are tied for the third wild card spot.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: Boston's a half game bet.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_02]: See you about that, like how bad people want to.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: talking about the smoke burn box into the ground like they are so upset with how the red socks have played their half game out of a wild card for us now going to make deals like sells yeah selling mode so they won nine straight right before the all star break to try to keep it alive here a little far back
- 17:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, realistically.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_04]: The fans are in an uproar as you say, Toronto's also dead last at 12 games out.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, the West is wide open with those three contenders, Texas, Seattle's Houston.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm very curious.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_04]: I think if anything, the guardians are going to get a bullpen arm.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_04]: to compliment the back end of that pen nationally obviously the Dodgers are the favorite Mill walkie has met alluded to earlier made a trade to bolster there who's the other one McCullerson Colton is it I think so and he's a journeyman so because Harrison right now was on the D.L Yeah, Colton Gordon to the birthday of Gordon and
- 17:56[SPEAKER_04]: So they've got a five game lead on the Cubs, and they're just a better team, I think, than the Cubs, which I think is very amusing, considering the managers, what he went from Milwaukee, what the managers name now with the Cubs.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh, Craig Council.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of scared.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_04]: He was a bit of true Milwaukee.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, now he goes to the cops and Milwaukee still beating.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: Right, yeah, in that division.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: The people were pissed about how he left Milwaukee, too.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: They were not happy about that.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: No, yeah, you're right.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_04]: And St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati kind of fading.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_04]: Nobody out of the West except the Dodgers.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_04]: They're going to be in an upward San Francisco.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_04]: I wonder if they're going to be in a selling mode.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: they gotta be.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_04]: The biggest question about a team being in a selling modus in New York meds, because they have that enormous payroll, and what are they going to do?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_04]: The besheat signing has been disastrous, but Shet got a little better going into the break, but at any rate, I do want to also acknowledge guys that the draft was conducted in Major League Baseball and the Guardians announced the selection of a right-handed pitcher by the name of Liam Peterson.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_04]: 19th overall selection.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_04]: He's a 21-year-old out of the University of Florida.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_04]: He made 16 starts in 26, 3 and 6, 4, 5, 9, ERA, 1, 4, 2, whip.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_04]: Not impressive numbers.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_04]: No, but.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_04]: uh... he's six five two twenty five uh... and he is the first picture taken by the guards with their first pick of the draft since given williams back in twenty twenty one he was listed as the number twenty
- 19:34[SPEAKER_04]: MLB Pipeline Prospect, mid to high 90s fastball, mid 80s slider, which is his outpitched, but he's projected to be pretty good major league or some day.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, at 93, 98 plus slider pretty good curve on that, you know, Logan Schmitt, who's a high schooler.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_02]: They took in the second round.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: There's a consistent theme.
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: The card against her going for Lee and Peterson, 65, Logan Schmitt, a lefty high schooler.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: He's six four.
- 20:04[SPEAKER_02]: They're all just going for these times.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: all guy, they talk about Kate Smith, what do they like the release point and the extension that you get.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_02]: There's something pretty consistent about it.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: I know people like Tray Pursard, the center field they got in a third round.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_02]: Another one was Kate Lewis in the fourth round.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_02]: I was reading some things about him and he probably projects.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_02]: a little bit more on the first base side of things, but yeah, I mean, you know, the draft is always a lot of fun and you see the prospects just even the guardians kind of coming up and, you know, right now it's on with the Subaru's like the pipeline that they had of developing pitchers.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: I feel better about them developing hitters now.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_04]: I'm glad you brought that up, you know, I'm just going to say under the antenna and he churn off watch.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_04]: compared to the Shapiro watch and not a knock-on mark as he made some good trades as I've alluded to in previous shows.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: But the drafting and the development of those drafts under Anthony and Chernoff has been tremendous.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_04]: So this is the crop they chose this year.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, before we move on, talking about the Guardian still.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to ask you this because I threw this idea at Matt and he seemed like he disagreed vehemently with me on this thought process.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Not the first time I'll be the last.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: When Jose Romero comes back and you have a guy like Gabriel Aria's who's bat probably can hit the furthest home run on the Guardian's roster.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: What do you do with that?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: I threw out the idea of putting Rokio back at second Aria such short.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: But then what do you do with Pazana?
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: Do you throw him in left field?
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Is that feasible?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_01]: Can you replace the gold glove left field in Kwon?
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: And no.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_04]: I think that would be disruptive.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_04]: Pazana's been a traditional second basement.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_04]: Does he need work defensively?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_04]: Yes.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to get better and better and better.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_04]: I think he has superstar potential.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_04]: I truly believe that I love watching him at the plate.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_04]: His defense has got to improve.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_04]: but you don't screw Rokio has become an excellent shortstop.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_04]: Come on.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_04]: Ari is I'm hearing his name bandied about as a possible trade to get an arm in the bullpen.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean it's the biggest need and Bruce that leads kind of to this between the impending lockout between the fact there's I think 22ish teams within force four or four and a half games of a playoff spot.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: Guardians might be hamstrung at this deadline.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Should you think fans should kind of temper their expectations?
- 22:15[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, well, listen, you know better than anybody Ryan in the off season, I was probably the only one in Cleveland that said that don't be surprised if they don't make any moves at all, because they have to develop, they gotta get it bats for all these kids.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_04]: And so I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make a move, but I have a feeling they've got to get a bullpin arm.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_04]: And it might be, I mean, didn't we talk about it last week, the possibility of Chapman,
- 22:44[SPEAKER_04]: that kind of a move reminds me of an Andrew Miller when the colonel was here and you remember the results we went to the world series and should have won it.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah and there's a list like Caleb Ferguson a lot of reds players people keep talking on Spencer's steer for the outfield Caleb Ferguson is an arm Pete Fairbank guys like that.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean I look at it from this standpoint guys and say at this point you have so
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do with Cooper angle?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do with Ralphie Vlaska?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know people don't want to out.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: We know Ralphie trade on hell.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know like what are you a spino?
- 23:20[SPEAKER_02]: What are you going to do with some of these guys?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: They're not there isn't going to be a spot for them next year because you project to have
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: what of the night we'll take picture out of it eight fielding positions Bruce that you're probably tell you who five or six of them are going to be for the next couple of years like what's the point of stock hoarding all these picks and all these all these uh prospects i should say when you're pretty well set for i think the next couple of years so that's why i'm pushing to go make a move it can never have enough pitching uh as it turns out because of injuries we've needed these kids yeah um
- 23:55[SPEAKER_04]: And it's funny, you know, don't forget we led for a little arrow go.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, K for system down.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, right.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: So there's a couple others too.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I think it's it just kind of comes back to do get the right move.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want to overpay.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_02]: You know what point to this.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: So what have to see.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be fun.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: At least there's an interest.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you know, at least there's a little interest on the guardians potentially making some moves.

- 24:45[SPEAKER_02]: We're going on at the British open across the pond.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_02]: We'll get to some more insight on that.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I'll come in your way.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's a big play Cleveland show right here on YouTube.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the British open is underway at Royale Burkdale.
- 24:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's their turn in the British rotation.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_04]: And Mike Yager joins us, PGA Golf Professional General Manager of Columbia Hills Country Club, which I'm a proud member of.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_04]: And we want to have Mike on before all of the majors.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: This is the last of the four, of course, Michael.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_04]: And we're underway, well underway, and we've got to start with Scotty Sheffler, who didn't even make the cut last week at the Scottish open.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_04]: And here he is in contention with a very good first round.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_04]: He fought a little bit at the end, but he's right there.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he still knows how to golf, which is no surprise.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_03]: He started out hot, and from what I've seen this morning, the golfers that got out early are putting up a much better scores than the folks that are out there wrapping it up right now.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_04]: Now, another interesting name and that leaderboard is Dishambo, Bryson Dishambo, my partner, Matt is telling me.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_04]: He went to some new clubs because he was having difficulty drawing the ball.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, anybody that's followed his career knows he's the mad scientist.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_03]: He's willing to change equipment, clubs, golf balls at a whim or to suit him at a golf course.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think he had all his 3D printed, which is completely unheard of.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_03]: I think the kids could tell us more about that nowadays than we would know, but yeah, he's a tanker.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_03]: He's willing to try anything.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Mike, I want to ask about the firmness.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_02]: They said that this might be the firmest of major championship golf courses ever played.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_02]: There's a clip where the only green spots on the course are right near the sprinkler heads, like it's dried out.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: So I got two questions.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, when you watch a tournament like this, is there some sort of style of play or a stat that you look for when it's firm?
- 26:42[SPEAKER_02]: And then for us amateur golfers, is there a great tip that you have when the greens and the fairway are as firm as they are?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I answer the second question first.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think there's anything to compare it to state side, really, for what we're seeing right now.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the golf course is cooked.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_03]: It's been baked and it's been 70, 80 degrees there.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_03]: They haven't had water on it in weeks.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure I heard Jordan Spease say before the golf tournament that he ran out of five iron 300 yards.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that's so that what that does is it brings a lot of strategy in the play.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 27:14[SPEAKER_03]: bombing it off the T doesn't really help you if it's going to bound off the fairway and into the rough.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: That being said, as dry as it is, the rough is not nearly as penal as it usually would be at a British open.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_03]: So it's all about the strategy that you're trying to attack the golf course.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_03]: If it's finding the fairway and knowing that it's going to run out, you have to land it in the right spot or somebody like Bryson is just going to pound the golf ball, find it and not worry
- 27:42[SPEAKER_04]: How much of an advantage Mike is it for a fleetwood who finished at one under today?
- 27:48[SPEAKER_04]: Macalroy is on the course as we speak, Shane Lowry, and that this is our home turf so to speak.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think it's a huge advantage.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I read an article the other day out when Flewdo was a young kid.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_03]: He snuck onto this golf course and played.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, local mileage, as you know, is key.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_03]: People come out here to Columbia Hills and they see our yardage and think they're going to absolutely destroy the golf course.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_03]: But if you get out there and you know where to leave the golf ball, or you know the subtle angelations on the greens better than anyone else that's definitely a benefit.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_02]: uh... calmore calmer by the way just poured in a birdie so he's tied for the ladies you know my can mention that the afternoon wave not nearly as good as earlier but more cows doing so when you think about the brit because the guy's like when i think of the british i think of cold and rainy and next to the ocean like you know fall golf here this is like the complete opposite i don't like this i wanted to be like cold and rainy that's the british open me
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the players are definitely enjoying this a bit more.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_03]: It looks like it's going to be warm and rain-free for the whole golf tournament.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_03]: So I expect to see that translate to the scores.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, the last time the tournament was here was in 2017, Jordan Speath won a 12-under.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, I wouldn't be surprised to see, you know, lower than that for sure.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_04]: Are you surprised Justin Rose had such a bad opening round five over?
- 29:07[SPEAKER_03]: Heck yeah, I bet I'm going to make the cut it, so yeah, that's certainly surprised me.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of the Europeans, like that's what you guys are alluding to before.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: The local knowledge historically helps these guys.
- 29:19[SPEAKER_03]: That's why you see Brown, the Englishman on the leaderboard.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_03]: A lot of us who watched the PGA tour, these guys are competing on the D.P.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_03]: World Tour, playing these linked style golf courses, and they just have a better feel for them right now.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_04]: You know the guy is at McIntyre.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_04]: He is having a he had a very good first round at three under Lefty and was it last year in the British open that he contented?
- 29:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, he was right there right down there Yeah big Bob McIntyre.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_03]: He's he's coming into his game right now.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_03]: He's playing a lot on the tour and he's been fairly Consistent with the likes of Fitzpatrick and those guys their contenders every week
- 29:54[SPEAKER_02]: I did find it funny this week too guys where they were worried about the tea times on Sunday if England made the world cup final.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't, so they're all good, but it's just in the global sphere of the game, I guess it's still a little bit ahead of the world cup still a little ahead of the golf there, which I don't agree with, but I just thought that was interesting.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have to worry about it now, but they were really worried that people were going to leave the golf course on Sunday to go home and watch soccer.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_03]: I'm certainly glad that's not the case.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_04]: How about friend Chesco Mollonarei?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's an interesting contender and after this first round.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, for sure, him and his brother.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_03]: They've been, they've had a really good career.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_03]: I think he's the one to throw away the masters year that Tiger won years ago.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_03]: But again, it's the local knowledge.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_03]: They play a ton over in Europe and across the world for that matter.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_03]: We're a lot of the PGA guys.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_03]: They strictly play state sides.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_03]: So, uh,
- 30:50[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I'm not surprised to see Schaffler up there, but historically speaking, the European do far better than New Americans in this event.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_02]: And as far as Bruce mentioned the rotation, Mike, and I think it's such an interesting one about the conversation around the US open.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_02]: where they're really kind of maybe starting to come into their own of picking 8 to 10, maybe even 12 courses and saying we're just going to rotate through those, maybe use the PGA as the we'll go to the one-off spots.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_02]: Do you prefer that?
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: Do you like how they do it for the British open where they got that select group and they give preference to St. Andrews, but they just rotate through the same ones every every couple years?
- 31:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that's very cool.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_03]: And not only for the golfers, but for the spectators, right?
- 31:33[SPEAKER_03]: You get to know those courses better.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, Mr. Dren, and he could probably rattle off every hole at Augusta, because you watch that golf course every year.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_03]: So if we get into some kind of rotation, the viewers are going to get to know those golf courses as well as the players and ultimately probably be a better product for everyone.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's a different type of a gulf over there, though, you know, uh, you mentioned speth and getting hitting a five iron three hundred yards, and uh, it really is fascinating to see these.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_04]: And historically there has been so many matchups.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_04]: I go back far enough to, of course, remember the
- 32:07[SPEAKER_04]: classic match-up between Watson and Nicholas and uh... so many others uh... uh... oh my goodness uh... uh... Watson had the lead at same Andrews and uh... i mean and then blue it and of course most recent steward sync who is playing in this british open
- 32:25[SPEAKER_04]: Over took what Watson chose an eight iron instead of a nine iron on the 18th hole and it forced to play often as a result He was denied his a sixth British open championship amazing history
- 32:40[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the one unique thing about Link's golf is you can throw it away in one whole pretty quickly as you alluded to Justin Rose earlier.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_03]: You shoot one bad round.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to shoot yourself a tournament with a couple bad scores on a couple of holes pretty quickly.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_04]: It was semi ballasteros and I was thinking of that over took Watson.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_04]: That was that same Andrews that one year.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_04]: Um, so who did you pick going into this British?
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I was looking at Fitzpatrick, you and I talked at the club the other day.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_03]: He's really rounded in the form.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_03]: I always like guys like Lowry and Rose going into the golf tournament, just because they're always in contention.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_03]: And again, they're course knowledge.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_03]: Then they're also, you know, you got to put the fan perspective into it.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_03]: These guys are pulling for the Englishman, the Irishman, the Scottish, they're their own.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_03]: So I think the fans backing these guys, Fleetwood always, I'm still waiting for him.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_03]: He didn't shoot himself out of the tournament,
- 33:34[SPEAKER_03]: is he's in there but he's got to make a move tomorrow.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: Roy just missed a very short rung it around put like I want to ask I think we even discussed this maybe for the masters or not the masters but like the idea about Roy being able to go over there and play these courses earlier were fouled out at him then he saw him at Royal Burkdale a couple of weeks ago.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that's an issue?
- 33:57[SPEAKER_02]: Is that something that the tours, whether it be the European tour or the PGA tour should limit the amount of exposure that some of these guys have?
- 34:05[SPEAKER_02]: They get like there's jobers that they got to go play every weekend and try to make cuts to get up on the money.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_02]: This we're immaculate and have to do any of that.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: He could pick and choose when he plays the tour said, yep, you can even go to the playoffs without playing all these tournaments.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: No problem.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: Like do you think that's a real issue or not really?
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think it's a real issue.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I wouldn't want to limit anybody's ability to practice.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_03]: And the way they have their tournament schedule set up, a lot of the players will play in the Scottish open in order to get ready for the open championship.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_03]: It's similar conditions, it's similar golf course.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_03]: And then even the same thing with the masters, the tournament before that's down in Texas, believe they're not sets up.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_03]: somewhat similar to Augusta.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_03]: So the guys like Tiger and Rory can fly in and play Augusta the week before, but the Joe Schmo on the PGA toward.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_03]: who can't go there necessarily as often or in advance of the tour does a pretty good job a set of golf courses to get them ready as well.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_04]: Mike, I have already informed my guys that I play with at Columbia Hills on Saturday and Sunday that I won't be joining them either morning because with the time differential between here and Royal Burkedale, you know where I'll be right in front of my set watching every single shot.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_03]: I don't blame you.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks Mike.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_04]: Probably is appreciated.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_04]: Mike Dager, PGA Golf Professional, and General Manager at Columbia Hills Country Club.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks Mike.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_04]: Thanks guys.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: No, a lot of fun.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_02]: Bruce, we got to get you like a, I know I'll get you my phone.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: You take your iPad out and go put it on the golf cart and watch the while you're playing.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's the bold world.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_04]: It's not the same.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's not the best of all the world.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_02]: Bruce, don't even take his phone.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm the golf course.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: I'll set you up on the ride.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I told you that story.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_02]: I have a plan.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_04]: They said start and I still don't do it.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_04]: I still, but you know, it's funny just last week.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_04]: A buddy of mine was writing with me in the cart.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_04]: And he took his phone.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_04]: He's constantly looking at his phone.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_04]: He put it in the cup container.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_04]: And somehow some way, I hit a bump or something and he didn't notice it.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_04]: And he lost his phone.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_04]: And he said, I said, see, that'll teach you to take your next phone.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's what you get.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: Well, speaking to the phones, I placed my waiters on Fandle.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm kind of with Mike.
- 36:19[SPEAKER_02]: I took Matt Fitzpatrick, my Matthew Jordan dark horse pick, not working out the way that I thought, but we got a little money on Bobby Mac, which is good.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: And of course, Sunday coming up.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_02]: the final, the biggest stage in the world for soccer, fan dual, change in the game.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: Because sometimes your player can get subbed off and your bet could go with them.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_02]: Not anymore, fan dual's super sub.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: If your player is subbed out, your bet stays in.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_02]: If your player leaves the match, your bet continues on with the substitutes.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: You're still in it until the final whistle because matches like these, anything can happen.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_02]: So go get it in.

- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: I picked an out I picked a Robert McIntyre as one of my outright winners.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_02]: I put a token on him.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: If he had finished the first round as the leader, I'd have gotten paid out.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's not going to unfortunately because he's tied all that, but still, they've got right here.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_02]: Still, I have a 25% profit boost available for live.

- 38:37[SPEAKER_02]: Stay with us.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everybody, welcome back into the Big Play Cleveland Show right here on YouTube, Brian Tyler, Matt Fontana, and of course Bruce, Drennan, guys, were flipping gears over to the Hardwood, LeBron, James, still mulling over his decisions for free agency.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, now people think it might be tonight.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a live podcast at the next festival.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, I'm not going to ask you when you think LeBron's going to make his decision.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: But what I am going to ask you is this are the Cavaliers smart for staying patient in this whole thing are they risking their chance to improve by waiting for King James.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_04]: Well all the teams that are in content should we touch upon this last week obviously Miami and Golden State and the Cavs whoever doesn't get them is in it dilemma.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_04]: What do they gonna do you know the pickens are slim now with all these other trades and signings and don't be surprised if he draws this out even more you're saying tonight we thought hopefully.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_04]: today when we did the show live here on YouTube that we would have the announcement, but don't be surprised if he draws this out.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_04]: However, I am still sticking to my guns.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_04]: He, I saw him, but if I were some couple of weeks ago as I told you, he has joined Firestone Country Club.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_04]: He's taking up golf.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_04]: Why would he want to spend the entire summer here when he's got all those great courses?
- 39:40[SPEAKER_04]: He can take up the golf in California,
- 39:44[SPEAKER_04]: I'll put our courses up against any state and of country, that's not what I mean, but I mean, he's in his own backyard there with his family and also he comes back here.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_04]: He still is maintained his home and bath, but I find it curious, I found out that Rich Paul's been in serious conversations with the calves as he has with my amy and golden state, but again, fellas, in order for him to choose golden state, let's do process of elimination.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_04]: In order for him to choose gold and state, they've got to somehow some way, and I don't know how, get Anthony Davis, because Green, LeBron, and Curry, that's not enough for LeBron to be satisfied that they can win the NBA championship.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know how they're gonna get Davis, everything that I see is that it's nearly impossible with the finances.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: And especially because the wizards don't really want to trade him from eye understanding, they were super excited about getting him and trade young.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: And, oh, I forget I wish I could give credit.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: There was a great conversation on a podcast and somebody who's talking about tanking in the NBA.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: and how teams, they all start that they're on board with it, right?
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: And that they want to do it and that they're in.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: But then eventually they do get cold feet and they want to expedite the process and I feel like that's what happened with the with the wizards.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: They were in on tanking, they had some high picks, they got Alex saw, and now of a sudden feel like they're starting to get cold feet, they mash the gas, they go get tray young, they go get Anthony Davis.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they're ready to jettison him out for any reason.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_02]: Now one of the wizards is going to be maybe a six seed if they're lucky.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think they're a title-contender at all, but I think that's where Anthony, if that's the
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: If that's the whole thing about him going to the Warriors, then yeah, they'll cross them off.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think they've been crossed off for a while, personally.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_04]: But last week, I said, what if we don't get LeBron James, we've, we're zooming such optimism because of the excitement of having him back here to conclude his career.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_04]: But the calves have already let Wade go to give space to game space for James Arrival.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_04]: James Harden remains unsigned, although if the calves do get James, it's anticipated that Harden would sign a deal quickly thereafter.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_04]: But if James doesn't sign with the calves, the front court will be very bare.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_04]: with very little money to spend and very few options.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_04]: Now, the rumors that calves might trade back strues and truders, there's to rose in the free agent forward, wave by San Diego, he'll likely get offers above the minimum, which will make it very difficult for the calves to give them.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_04]: So, if we don't get James, in other words, uh-oh.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, you are positively saying you're pretty much running back at team that was in the Eastern Conference Finals.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't show up for the Eastern Conference Finals, but they were in it.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: They were there.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: If LeBron did come bruise, I don't know what other moves there are to make at this point like you might just have to wait until the trade deadline And that's been more often than not in LeBron's career in Cleveland Those have been the bigger trades have been the trade deadline swaps like I picture it remember that year that we started with Derek Rose and doing wait and everybody was here And they get to the trade deadline.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_02]: They traded a half the team out and
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: and they brought in a bunch of other guys you still make the finals get smoke big human I'm saying even if Lebron showed up today or tonight is podcast and he goes I'm joining the Cleveland Cavaliers fantastic hey uh we still need to trade Jared Allen or i'm still interested in trading away max truce yeah that's fine
- 43:38[SPEAKER_04]: what moves do you see available now everybody's been making moves for a month at this point right and you know when he made that hideous announcement the first time would gray I remember watching that show I wanted to vomit
- 43:54[SPEAKER_04]: Bosh him and Wade, but Pat Riley, then went to work and got the accompanying past and are the calves in that position if we do get James, I mean, the court for and James is one heck of a five-some, but after that, I mean, and Brownie's going to be at the end of the bench.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, they'll, you'll have to ask yourself what you need to, like you said, build around Bron.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that because he's going to be the number one guy, but he's obviously coming here with some sort of idea of a move that he wants to be made.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_02]: And it's not like it was seven years ago or eight years ago at this point where like, he's still the focal point.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_02]: You make any trade you want because it's Bron.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming in here to play the third fourth role on this team.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_02]: How much can you really do to appease him?
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: but it's also he has a smart basketball mind.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_02]: He knows how to play the game.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_02]: He knows what they need.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: So if he's nudging them to go make a move with Jared Allen or Max Truce, I'd listen to it.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_02]: My only other thing is sitting here going is this a staring match.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know the word I'd probably like to put in there, but it's a family show.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_02]: are they is he just like stare at Kobe Altman and go go go trade Jared Allen and Kobe Altman's looking at him and go yeah that's fine going sign this sign this contract will do whatever you want I think they're sitting here just waiting for the other shoe to drop on either side interesting thing Brian chime in I was just there could you think it'll brown hates
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, I don't know about Jared Allen.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I just, I
- 45:42[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and the thing is they need physicality, I mean, obviously, they've got to put this not there.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: No, and there's times I think it leaves Jared Allen, too.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: But that's my biggest thing, too, Bruce, when I stare at Brian and about him making his decision, you are the calves perfect.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_02]: The NBA doesn't want perfect teams anymore.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: They made that abundantly clear that they don't want teams being built.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_02]: Now, the Thunder did a damn good job of that for a little while.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_02]: They're having a tear down.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_02]: I think the NYX did a phenomenal job of building a team.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, guys to go when it championship they did it took him 50 years.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_02]: Look a while they're here and now they're they might have to tear that down to the cabs have that You've got bigs.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_02]: You've got guards you could have a playmaking wing and brun What's the one thing we're missing is three-point shooting?
- 46:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's been the our killy seal for a while But overall when you look at this team It is everything that you would want them to be for the brun to get through the play or through the regular season to the playoffs That's where I like again.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'm ripping on Jared Allen
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: And he just is the hot name that everybody always brings up, but, you know, if Ron really wants to move made, you got to give somebody, huh?
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: I want to take it just a little bit off of the hardwoods, still returning to LeBron James in basketball.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: Time heals all wounds.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_01]: I feel most people are recovered from the decision Bruce, which you just alluded to.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: But do you think fans will view LeBron a little bit differently after kind of leading on the Cavaliers fans?
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: And if he didn't come here, that's not fair to LeBron because he has a right to hold his distance.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: Fans would be what?
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a little bit upset if he likes to go elsewhere, kind of felt like LeBron is on his own.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_04]: It's deflated, disappointed, peaved off, of course, a combination of all.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_04]: And it's going to be devastating because it's all your eggs are in one basket.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_04]: And the calves I can see contending for the NBA championship seriously with him, but without him.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've said it, I'll say it again, if he doesn't come to the cabs and let this on for as long as it has, that will bother me more than when he left for all day.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: The Miami nothing will surpass the decision nothing will bother me more than the decision, but if he doesn't come to the cabs, this point after playing this game is dog and pony show for as long as it's got him.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: You don't come back to Cleveland, that's way worse than it's going to be a long season.
- 48:05[SPEAKER_02]: Oh God, it's not the same way, it's not going to be fun.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: All right, plenty more coming up.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_02]: Big play Cleveland show right here in YouTube.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: Talk a little soccer coming up as well.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_02]: Stay with us.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_04]: Well, the world cup is now down to the finals.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_04]: And it's going to be quite an interesting championship between Argentina and England.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_04]: Brandon Varna do is joining us again.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_04]: Soccer expert.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_04]: He was with us a couple of weeks ago.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_04]: Brandon, you would pick trance.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_04]: They came close.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_04]: But
- 48:32[SPEAKER_04]: uh-uh not this year and you're taking on these two teams now Argentina and uh uh uh beating England that goes back to the days of the fockland's war there's no love loss between those two countries
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, very much so.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you can still feel that, you know, in today.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: If you watch that game, you could feel the intensity, I believe it was two minutes and 30 seconds in.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: There was already starting to be some fighting on the field.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a scrappy game, but Argentina pulled it together.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: They do have incredible grit and incredible emotional control.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: And they pulled it through.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: They, they really,
- 49:12[SPEAKER_00]: you know they pulled off a great performance.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: Messy was once again, you know, part of a stellar performance.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, now we see England going through, I mean, I'm sorry, Argentina going through to the final to play Spain, which I'm really excited about.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_04]: How about Spain beating France?
- 49:29[SPEAKER_04]: France was your pick?
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes, they were.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what?
- 49:34[SPEAKER_00]: Simply put, Spain played
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: tactically I don't think there's a there's necessarily a better team in the world player by player if you look at the two lineups you would say France any day but Spain they have surprised me and they have been doing this in the past few tournaments where you see some names on there that are not big names but they have such a culture and identity when they play and they're all aligned with
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: that identity and they play is a great team.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's not one great superstar.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: So we kind of, we saw that against France.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: They, they, they're technical and tactical game was, was better than France's.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, if they couldn't get by with individual efforts from players like Mbapé, for example.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_00]: So really, really, really exciting final that we have set up for us.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_02]: And speaking to that final brand because I think it's interesting for you mentioned messy that he has the tie breaker over Mimbapay for the golden boot.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think there would be a little pressure maybe on Argentina or him to get a goal so it wouldn't come down to the assist tie breaker for him to take that down?
- 50:39[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, sure.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're they're always going to look at that for messy.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: I bet you there's going to be some players keeping their eye out.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: He really.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: has taken that leadership role many, many years ago, and you can see that the players really believe in him, and they want him to win as much as he can, and they really, really support him in that effort.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, yes, I guarantee you that the Argentinean players will be looking out for the left foot, the magical left foot of Leo Messi to put a goal away, and it's also good that golden boot for sure.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_04]: Brande and Argentina has an opportunity to win back-to-back world cups, and that would be the first time since Brazil in 1958 and 1962.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_04]: How big of a motivation is that for them?
- 51:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's crazy.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: Bruce, I recently watched a video of people talking about, they were selling their homes in Argentina.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_00]: They were selling their cars.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_00]: They were selling any kind of assets that they have.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: They were giving up their lives to come and witness a game or to even just be in New York during the final and just to be part of that energy.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_00]: This means everything to the
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: And to be fair, I don't think there's a national team in the world that has that kind of following behind them and that kind of belief, you know, several times they'll pan the camera over to Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the main plaza that they have for every game where they watch the games is full, and when there's a goal, people are crying, people are emotional.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_00]: This is everything to a lot of people.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, if I sold my house and you know, uh, what to go watch, you know, whatever team play, that's, that's a lot of emotional, you know.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm your show there's right.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: So it's, it's everything to them.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_02]: And kind of off that with it being Spain, Argentina to Spanish-speaking countries and though people were a lot we're talking about bringing that up like, where does this final rank do you think is this the one that do you think it has a chance to be in all time where do you think it already is living up to being one of the best final games that we've seen in World Cup history?
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think so one of the reasons being that it is most likely in the seapoles of something magical.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: This will most likely be Leo Messi's last World Cup performance.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: So just that itself is already planting it as a memorable historical game.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you know, World Cup finals, it's tough to compare because usually you have
- 53:20[SPEAKER_00]: You know, some of the greatest legends of any given generation playing in that game.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really hard to compare it, you know, to other, you know, finals.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: You look at Italy versus France 2006, and that was loaded with nothing but legends in the game.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_00]: Many world cups are the same.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, but I think it will be huge from the aspect that this is, you know, Play on Messi's last game in a world cup with the Argentina shirt on.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_02]: But I was going to jump out of your service because I was going to ask about messy two.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_02]: Does the wind here?
- 53:55[SPEAKER_02]: Does that vault him to the best of all time?
- 53:57[SPEAKER_02]: Does he need that wind coming up on Sunday?
- 53:59[SPEAKER_02]: And if he gets it, does he just unequivocally go down or I had a varnaldo or, you know, pay lay and all the other grates like as he instantly that or is he already the great.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, he's already the great, he's already that guy, really the only other, you know, there's a couple people you could chalk it up to Ronaldo, obviously, R9 of Brazil, and maybe Madadona from Argentina as well.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think if messy grabs the second World Cup trophy, then it makes it really, really difficult to argue if there was another great player.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that achievement of just having one is a generational achievement.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_00]: Now, having two to your name alongside with.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: everything that he's won, multiple champions, leagues, multiple Spanish titles, French titles, player of the year award many, many times over and over again.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_00]: So if you add another World Cup trophy to that cabinet, then that's going to be a really difficult argument to make for really anybody else.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's quite spectacular what we're seeing.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_04]: We want to get to the third place game and the future of soccer in the United States, but
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: Who do you like, Spainer, Argentina, and why I, this is a great game and I'll tell you why you've got Spain who is playing beautiful football.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: tact, really technically great, really defensively sound, maybe boring to some people that's kind of what comes along with that style of play.
- 55:32[SPEAKER_00]: And then you've got Argentina who you can tell that they're ready to do anything for Argentina, ready to do anything for Messi, the grit that they have is really, really strong.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_00]: I think if Spain played to the level that they did against France, that they could very well take the trophy home.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Argentina have the grit that they just did against England, then it could be a different story.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, gone to my head, I would pick Spain for this one.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_02]: Brandon wanted to ask about overall, you know, because first talked about soccer in the United States, but just overall, what has been your vibe or what you're hearing on how well North America hosted.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_02]: And there's a lot of different cities and a lot of different stadiums.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_02]: There was already questions about if they could get what's the next one up for bed, like 2038.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think everything else has been set up until then.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that the United States showed up in the way that they needed to get another World Cup sooner
- 56:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think there were a lot of people coming into this tournament saying, oh, what, you know, I don't know if the United States is the great is the best country to do this.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, you know, I don't think this is going to be an exciting world cup.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think the fans are excited.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I think a lot of people were proven wrong.
- 56:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you look at the host cities, I mean, it looks like everybody was having fun.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: Not just who was playing in those cities.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: People living in that city.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_00]: People visiting everybody was having a good time.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody's out.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: going to bars, restaurants, having a good time with the friends.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the fan experience was really, really good.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think they did a phenomenal job with the stadiums at everybody was super happy with their experience, entering, leaving the security.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: Everything seemed to have gone really, really well.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that people will look back at this as a very positive world cup that was held in the United States.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: And North America in general.
- 57:27[SPEAKER_04]: Brandon former soccer star, Landon Donovan, took a jab at the American Youth Soccer Program.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_04]: He referred to the infamous pay to play model, which according to him is holding back the true potential of American soccer.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_04]: And here's one of his quotes, only 2%.
- 57:49[SPEAKER_04]: of kids playing organized soccer in the United States, come from households making less than $50,000 a year.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_04]: You're coming.
- 58:01[SPEAKER_00]: I listened to Landon Donovan a lot.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, I listened to his podcast that he's got with Tim Howard, the former U.S. Goldkeeper, and I think he is totally correct.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know,
- 58:12[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Cleveland, for example, which is not a MLS town.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: For example, in Columbus, they do have a program where you can start to be part of the Academy for little cost, and that's a way to play professionally.
- 58:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's a ladder that's accessible.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_00]: But basically, everywhere else in the country that's not an MLS franchise, you are paying
- 58:36[SPEAKER_00]: You know, minimum to $2,500, $3,000 for your child to play outside of high school where they're playing with a club.
- 58:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's not accessible to everybody.
- 58:48[SPEAKER_00]: So there really is a major gap between the cities that have MLS franchises and have that infrastructure set up versus, you know, a city like Cleveland, who the soccer talent is here for sure.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_00]: There are a lot of
- 59:04[SPEAKER_00]: Children here that have great talents with soccer, but it's, it's that reaching the next level that we don't have an accessible ladder to and, you know,
- 59:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, same with the rest of the country.
- 59:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I agree with Landon, but don't have it on that.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_02]: And is that some brandy?
- 59:18[SPEAKER_02]: Can that, I just, my picture, because like I'm not, you know, really up on soccer.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_02]: I know the Premier League, and I just, let me, my take on this, right?
- 59:27[SPEAKER_02]: Premier League is so much different, so much better than the MLS, right?
- 59:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I do think getting a guy like Messy to come over here, I think helps just the visual of the game.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_02]: But like you said, like Bruce is bringing up here,
- 59:40[SPEAKER_02]: United States soccer, just even getting guys to go play in the Premier League to then come help our national team.
- 59:46[SPEAKER_02]: I just feel like that's going to take like generations, right?
- 59:49[SPEAKER_02]: Like we need the kids right now getting going.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_02]: So we hope that in 15 years we're going to be good.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_02]: Am I wrong on that?
- 59:56[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think we're a lot closer to Team USA?
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: Again, that had a solid tournament, but really being one of the favorites.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_02]: You think that's something that could quick turn quickly or is this literally going to be years
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think it will be decades.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_00]: There we really missed an opportunity to go far on this tournament this year.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm honestly quite frankly very disappointed in how the United States played.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm disappointed in how the players held themselves after the game as well.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_00]: We really did not hear much from pull the situ as one of my personal favorite players as the captain of the team.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the whole world says Captain America, Captain America, but we have not seen that.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know, this was our chance to go far on the tournament, and we just ended where we've left off in the past five world cups at the round of 16.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not going to be taken seriously as a big boy within the game until we get past that.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that that is very far off.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_00]: I was honestly hoping that the momentum of this team would take us past that.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that would really help in the development of the United States, you know, within soccer with years to come.
- 1:01:04[SPEAKER_00]: But I think that we are unfortunately a long ways away.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: We're still in the spirit of time where, yes, most of our players are playing in Europe.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: That's great.
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: That's great for the immediate need of their skill on the national team.
- 1:01:18[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: until I start seeing young talent being retained in the MLS or even the MLS bringing over foreign young talent, then we're going to be stuck in this cycle of, hey, we have to send our youth away at 1617 to go play in Germany to go play in Netherlands so that way they can develop because here there's, you know, the accessibility is not there.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: So unfortunately, I think that we are a few years away from being able to do so.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_04]: Final question for your brand and the third place game features France and England that's a rivalry that goes back to Napoleon and Queen Elizabeth.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not even talking about walking Phoenix and Betty Davis.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_04]: How do you see this matchup?
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: I really, really like that game.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_00]: I do think that France does have the player by player advantage.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they play a better football than England does.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now, England have star-studded players, but what I've seen from them in tournaments, much like this one, much like the previous year row, they seem to falter in big moments.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right, when they're about to reach the next step,
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_00]: to get to what they want, they usually kind of fall apart.
- 1:02:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm thinking the same for the third place that's most likely what's going to happen and I think France is going to run away with the third place.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_04]: Brandon Werner does Brandon, thanks so much for sharing your expertise and allowing us to pick your brain as a soccer expert and enjoy the championship and we'll call upon you in 30 years when we get the cup back here in the United States.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: Fair enough.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be here.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you Bruce.
- 1:02:53[SPEAKER_00]: I love being on the show and I appreciate your time.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_02]: All right, partner
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and you know, I think it's so interesting to see that bidding process.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I was just looking it up, Bruce, and they're like, they have the 246 list out.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_02]: And they're like, they expect Italy in Japan to make a run at it.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_02]: And it's, I don't know, like you said, the earliest one could be 2038.
- 1:03:12[SPEAKER_02]: Because the next one is going to be a joint between Morocco.
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_02]: I guess it's going to be Uruguay and Argentina.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_02]: and then they're going to have like special matches in other places.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_02]: This is what it is.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_02]: So the next one is Spain, Portugal, Morocco.
- 1:03:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're going to play special matches in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay in 2030.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_02]: Then 2034 is Saudi Arabia, which has apparently proposed 15 stadiums that they're going to have built for this thing in Saudi Arabia in 2034.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_02]: But that one reportedly might be a England United Kingdom bid for that one.
- 1:03:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then twenty forty two might be Japan.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_02]: So we'll see.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be a long time coming.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm just trying to get through this face policy.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_04]: That's all the time, unfortunately, we have for this version of the Big Play Cleveland show.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_04]: And join us next week, Jimmy Handle will be joining us, and we're not going to allow him to try to do the show from his car.
- 1:04:20[SPEAKER_04]: I was with him over the weekend at the Lake Club.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_04]: I told you about it at the beginning of the show, and I yelled at him and used some vocabulary that I cannot share with you.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_04]: So he's going to be in the studio, so he says, I'll make sure that he is.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_02]: Well, do that.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_02]: Let's hit the show.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_04]: They're on wireless mics now.
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_04]: There we might be.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_04]: Ryan, I would only agree to that.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_04]: For the Natalie Goobless is going to play with us.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_02]: Work on that.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_04]: Would you please Ryan?
- 1:04:47[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_04]: I got to say you.
- 1:04:49[SPEAKER_04]: And that is all the time.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_04]: We have for this version of the show.
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm Bruce Stratton on behalf of Matt Fontana.
- 1:04:54[SPEAKER_04]: Ryan Tyler.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_04]: We'll see you next week until that has always the most important.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you remember, I love you, Ohio.
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_03]: And I love you, Cleveland.
