- 0:26Speaker 1: All right, what is up everyone? Welcome to finally, episode
- 0:31Speaker 1: one of Beyond the Blood, a horror commentary podcast. My
- 0:35Speaker 1: name is Chris Higgins. I'm known on the Internet as
- 0:37Speaker 1: Bearded Film Guy, and I'm here today with my wonderful
- 0:41Speaker 1: co host.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Hello everyone, I'm Chuck Savage.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Otherwise known as Chuck Savage to the Internet. Exactly, dude,
- 0:51Speaker 1: we're finally doing this.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Man, it's been.
- 0:54Speaker 1: It's been years into making in my brain, but it's
- 0:57Speaker 1: been a couple of months since I took this idea.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I regurgitated, like regurgitated onto you, and I gave you
- 1:04Speaker 1: no choice, Like I was like, do you want to
- 1:06Speaker 1: do this?
- 1:07Speaker 3: If you say no, I'll kill you.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Basically that's what happened. And but you know what, I'm
- 1:14Speaker 2: glad you asked me because I'm pumped for this and
- 1:18Speaker 2: helly going to be fun man, and to be fun.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Hell yeah, dude, this is cool. So I've been kind
- 1:24Speaker 1: of preaching about this on Instagram the importance of this show,
- 1:28Speaker 1: especially for me, because I'm the type of person like
- 1:30Speaker 1: I need an outlet, I need a place to go
- 1:33Speaker 1: and get this stuff out of me. So I needed
- 1:36Speaker 1: a co host who was willing to do that right
- 1:38Speaker 1: with me. So thanks for being a part of this, dude.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm super excited to have you as a partner in this.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Man look again, thank you for asking me.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, dude. So everyone's been kind of asking,
- 1:54Speaker 1: you know, what the show is about, what the idea is.
- 1:57Speaker 1: So Beyond the Blood is kind of what we called
- 1:59Speaker 1: a commentary podcast, but we are not providing the commentaries.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So this is not going to be Chuck and I
- 2:08Speaker 1: watching the movie and kind of commentating along for you
- 2:11Speaker 1: to follow along. We are actually using the audio commentaries
- 2:15Speaker 1: found on the DVDs, Blu rays, four K's, whatever have you.
- 2:20Speaker 1: We're using the information that we get from those to
- 2:23Speaker 1: kind of guide a conversation and a really in depth
- 2:26Speaker 1: talk through the movie. I know, for me, audio commentaries
- 2:33Speaker 1: have always been an important bonus feature and one that.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I've always looked out for.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I don't know, Chuck, do you have any history with commentaries.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm not a whole lot. I mean I would watch
- 2:46Speaker 2: them every now and then, but it was like not
- 2:48Speaker 2: really something that I would go out of my way
- 2:50Speaker 2: to watch every time I got a release. But after
- 2:54Speaker 2: talking with you about doing this podcast, I definitely started
- 2:57Speaker 2: listening to more commentary tracks and all the information that
- 3:01Speaker 2: you get from them is just fascinating. I love finding
- 3:04Speaker 2: all the little insights and behind the scenes things. It's
- 3:08Speaker 2: great and I'm kind of made up myself for not
- 3:10Speaker 2: listening to them earlier.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well that's why we have this.
- 3:13Speaker 1: We're gonna make up for for a long time in
- 3:15Speaker 1: our old age now. So just a little bit of
- 3:19Speaker 1: insight about us figured out would dive in. But I'm
- 3:22Speaker 1: gonna let Chuck take this age. Chuck, tell me tell
- 3:25Speaker 1: the audience kinda where why horror movies?
- 3:29Speaker 3: Where did this start for you?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Oh?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Man?
- 3:32Speaker 2: All right, Well, they didn't really start for me until,
- 3:35Speaker 2: you know, right before my teenage years. I was always
- 3:40Speaker 2: kind of a little too scared to watch them. When
- 3:42Speaker 2: I was younger, however, I would watch my brother play,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you know, all the old horror games on the PS
- 3:47Speaker 2: one like Resident Evil, Silent Hill all that, so it
- 3:52Speaker 2: was always like the interest was always there. But you know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: but then as I was getting older, reached middle school,
- 4:02Speaker 2: all these movies started coming out that I wanted to see,
- 4:05Speaker 2: like Dawn of the Dead remake and no just anything
- 4:13Speaker 2: from that error, I guess you could say. But uh, yeah, dude,
- 4:19Speaker 2: just That's where it all started, really middle school, talking
- 4:25Speaker 2: with people about horror movies, seeing them in theaters, and
- 4:28Speaker 2: uh yeah, dude.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That was my first DVD, Dawn of the Dead two
- 4:33Speaker 1: thousand and four of Us.
- 4:34Speaker 3: It was the first DVD I ever.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Bought, like on my own, like my own money, went
- 4:41Speaker 1: to the store. There was a little video store, kind
- 4:43Speaker 1: of like in the town I grew up in. Like,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know, we're we're pretty much the same age, I think.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So the town I grew up in, we would we
- 4:52Speaker 1: would get in a ton of trouble and there was
- 4:54Speaker 1: one plaza that we could walk to and we would
- 4:56Speaker 1: always go down there and kind of get in trouble
- 4:58Speaker 1: and hang out and stuff.
- 4:59Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:59Speaker 1: We were those kids outside the pizza place with no money,
- 5:03Speaker 1: nothing else to do besides getting trouble. So one day
- 5:08Speaker 1: this video rental store opened up, and I would just
- 5:11Speaker 1: go in there and like walk the aisles, never renting
- 5:14Speaker 1: anything because I couldn't afford to. So I remember it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: kind of weird. I remember the owner being a bit
- 5:21Speaker 1: of a weird guy, I think, and I think he
- 5:24Speaker 1: just accepted that I was a weird kid and I
- 5:26Speaker 1: was there to do no harm. So he would let
- 5:28Speaker 1: me kind of peruse the shelves over and over and
- 5:31Speaker 1: over again. And then one day I bought Donna the Dead.
- 5:36Speaker 1: I forget, I forget why I had money, but I
- 5:40Speaker 1: bought it. And of course the appeal for me was
- 5:43Speaker 1: that it was the unrated cut. That was, yes, that
- 5:48Speaker 1: was like the big thing because I didn't see that
- 5:50Speaker 1: in theaters. I remember it was the unrated cut, and
- 5:53Speaker 1: I was like, ooh, I should probably not be watching this,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and that's why I that's why I need it, and
- 5:59Speaker 1: I took it home. I cherished that for so long, dude.
- 6:03Speaker 1: That was like a crown jewel in my slaw, in
- 6:07Speaker 1: my collection for the longest time. And of course now
- 6:09Speaker 1: we have a four K.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 6:13Speaker 1: The second for me was Land of the Dead. I remember,
- 6:15Speaker 1: with birthday money.
- 6:16Speaker 3: I went, I bought that.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So yeah, I did buy that when that came out
- 6:20Speaker 2: as well, that's still have it. You have the DVD
- 6:24Speaker 2: Land of the Dead, I do, I do?
- 6:27Speaker 1: Okay, all right, Madden, all right, that's good respect respect.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Ye I gotta I gotta flex, gotta flex a little bit.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Did you upgrade the four K?
- 6:36Speaker 2: I did not, but I saw my list. Okay, I
- 6:39Speaker 2: still have. I still have plenty of stuff that I
- 6:41Speaker 2: need to upgrade.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Okay, okay, cool, okay, But yeah, I mean my history
- 6:47Speaker 1: kind of the same as yours.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Man.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I started my mom was a big movie fan, big
- 6:52Speaker 1: horror movie fan. I remember one time, it was The Exorcist.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Much like I think most people my age, that was
- 6:59Speaker 1: the movie to kind and to ruined me. For lack
- 7:02Speaker 1: of a better word, I think I watched it. I
- 7:06Speaker 1: think I was pretending to sleep on the couch and
- 7:08Speaker 1: I was like opening my eyes and just kind of watching,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and every single time my mom would look over, I
- 7:13Speaker 1: would pretend I was asleep. That was kind of like,
- 7:16Speaker 1: you know, I think how I watched it, and it
- 7:19Speaker 1: scarred me for life, forever, scarred me to the point
- 7:22Speaker 1: where I didn't see The Exorcist again.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Until I was twenty one.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Twenty two, I think I finally saw it again, and yeah,
- 7:34Speaker 1: now it's a favorite of mine.
- 7:36Speaker 2: So absolutely.
- 7:39Speaker 1: He started collecting really serious when I met my wife,
- 7:42Speaker 1: my girlfriend at the time, she's a massive hard horror fan.
- 7:48Speaker 1: That's when I really started kind of taking it all
- 7:50Speaker 1: more serious. And then as time went on, I just
- 7:52Speaker 1: kind of like continue collecting and I started posting on
- 7:57Speaker 1: Instagram and then I started a YouTube channel and it
- 8:00Speaker 1: was all fun, made a ton of friends doing that
- 8:02Speaker 1: and that was great. But uh, you know, now I'm
- 8:05Speaker 1: very lucky to kind of like have built this community
- 8:08Speaker 1: on on on Instagram of friends and stuff like that,
- 8:13Speaker 1: and I was like, dude, I really want to do
- 8:16Speaker 1: something different and talk about movies in a way that
- 8:18Speaker 1: I don't think they're being talked about. And that led
- 8:22Speaker 1: to this a full blown podcast, So what are the odds?
- 8:29Speaker 3: What are the odds? Right, dude, It's it's crazy.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Man.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Actually, as we're recording this, I'm kind of like blown
- 8:36Speaker 1: away that we're even actively actively doing this right now.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So same brother, it's fun, man. But we got a huge, huge,
- 8:46Speaker 1: huge year planned. Most people, I think, when they when
- 8:51Speaker 1: they jump into projects, they're like, hey, we're gonna take
- 8:53Speaker 1: it easy, we're gonna we're gonna you know, get things started.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And we were like, Nope, we're not gonna do that.
- 9:00Speaker 1: We're just gonna go right in and just go full
- 9:03Speaker 1: tilt into this thing. So we have as of right now,
- 9:09Speaker 1: six episodes planned with guests right now that are ready
- 9:15Speaker 1: to go, that we're getting ready to start recording and
- 9:18Speaker 1: what we're thinking is, as of right now, it's gonna
- 9:21Speaker 1: be a movie a month, and those are gonna be
- 9:25Speaker 1: the planned episodes that we're gonna talk about on here,
- 9:28Speaker 1: and there's gonna be more. I'm sure there's gonna be
- 9:31Speaker 1: new releases when new commentaries that will jump on. We'll
- 9:34Speaker 1: do some pop up episodes, some bonus episodes, stuff like that.
- 9:38Speaker 1: So right now we have six planned and we're gonna
- 9:42Speaker 1: start with one that we're actually recording tomorrow that'll be
- 9:45Speaker 1: out a couple weeks after this is and that is
- 9:48Speaker 1: nineteen eighty The Spider Labyrinth, which Severn put out on
- 9:52Speaker 1: four K this year. Incredible, incredible movie, one of my favorites.
- 9:57Speaker 1: The commentary on that is done by doctor Will Dodson
- 10:02Speaker 1: and Ryan Verel from the disc Connected. Actually a very
- 10:05Speaker 1: good friend of mine, and you watch this movie for
- 10:08Speaker 1: the first time when we talked about Spider eleventh. So
- 10:12Speaker 1: without going to in depth to where we're going to
- 10:15Speaker 1: ruin the episode, what did you think of the movie?
- 10:18Speaker 2: I absolutely loved it. It was wild and nice, wild
- 10:23Speaker 2: ride from start to end.
- 10:24Speaker 3: It's so good, dude, it's a blast.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I don't know how people how this movie got lost
- 10:30Speaker 1: or kind of how it did. It's I had never
- 10:33Speaker 1: heard of it before Severn put it out, but I don't.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I just the first time I saw it, I was
- 10:39Speaker 1: I was pretty blown away. And once we started doing this,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, we have to cover this, we
- 10:44Speaker 1: have to talk about this. And you listened to that commentary,
- 10:48Speaker 1: did you learn a lot from it?
- 10:50Speaker 2: I did. There was a lot of really cool insights
- 10:54Speaker 2: that they were going through, like picking out different parts,
- 10:57Speaker 2: like without really going into too much things like you know,
- 11:01Speaker 2: they'll see something and reference it with another thing. Just
- 11:05Speaker 2: little things that I didn't pick up myself that they
- 11:08Speaker 2: called themselves. Yeah, yeah, which is really cool here and
- 11:12Speaker 2: all that.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's cool because we're starting off we're starting
- 11:17Speaker 1: off the show with a commentary that is not done
- 11:19Speaker 1: by the director or the editor casting crew, which in
- 11:25Speaker 1: my opinion, are harder to discuss because you don't really
- 11:28Speaker 1: have any you're not getting like first hand stories, you're
- 11:32Speaker 1: not really getting any dirt, You're you're simply getting like analysis,
- 11:37Speaker 1: And I think those are more difficult commentaries to discuss.
- 11:43Speaker 1: But Ryan and Will did a really good job at
- 11:46Speaker 1: creating a bunch of talking points for us.
- 11:50Speaker 3: So yes, I think.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Dude, they dove in really deep and did a really
- 11:56Speaker 1: good job so and kind of opened up like the movie.
- 11:59Speaker 1: That was my third time I'm watching the movie when
- 12:00Speaker 1: I watched it with the commentary and still finding things
- 12:05Speaker 1: that I I didn't see before or ideas that they
- 12:09Speaker 1: brought up that I had never heard of before.
- 12:12Speaker 3: So that was a That was a really cool one,
- 12:15Speaker 3: really really cool.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And we're very lucky to have Ryan on that episode.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So podcasts covering audio commentaries, first episode The Spider Labyrinth
- 12:29Speaker 1: with a guest being one of the guys on the
- 12:33Speaker 1: commentary track for the movie. So we're going a commentary
- 12:38Speaker 1: of a commentary of a commentary right now, I think.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, we're awesome. It's awesome.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We're like commentating on his on their on their commentary.
- 12:49Speaker 2: We'll we'll commentate on Yeah, he's just basically going to
- 12:54Speaker 2: be commentating on his own commentary, which is yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 2: No.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Ryan's awesome. Ude, He's got he's got a great he's
- 13:01Speaker 1: got a great show. Like that's that's one of the guys.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I'm very happy to be able to call a friend,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and I'm very happy that he was able to come
- 13:10Speaker 1: on the show and do it I think it's gonna
- 13:11Speaker 1: be a perfect kickoff episode for us. And it's kind
- 13:15Speaker 1: of like, I feel like we're kind of backwards a
- 13:18Speaker 1: little bit because we are covering bigger, more well known movies,
- 13:24Speaker 1: but there later, it's not like we're starting with the
- 13:28Speaker 1: big stuff. We're kind of starting with something I would
- 13:31Speaker 1: argue like most people have never heard of, which is
- 13:34Speaker 1: ass backwards.
- 13:35Speaker 2: I think, yeah, because I've never heard of it until
- 13:38Speaker 2: you brought it up, you want to do it? For
- 13:40Speaker 2: the first episode, I was like, I never heard of
- 13:41Speaker 2: this movie. Let me look it up.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And you're You're like, what the fuck is wrong with
- 13:45Speaker 1: this guy?
- 13:46Speaker 2: Pretty much? Yeah, as soon as I started watching, I
- 13:48Speaker 2: was like, what does he get me into? Man? What
- 13:51Speaker 2: is this?
- 13:52Speaker 3: Ah?
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's fun man, I'm I'm I'm very honored to have
- 13:55Speaker 1: been the introductory.
- 13:57Speaker 3: For you to uh the Spider Labyrinth. So thank you,
- 14:00Speaker 3: thank you. Yeah, you're welcome.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So moving on into February, this was another one of
- 14:07Speaker 1: my picks. I couldn't think of a better way to
- 14:10Speaker 1: do year one of our show in February, and I
- 14:16Speaker 1: was very happy because when I got the idea, I
- 14:18Speaker 1: ran to my collection to see if there was even
- 14:20Speaker 1: a commentary available for this but February, we're gonna be
- 14:23Speaker 1: doing My Bloody Valentine from nineteen eighty one, and that
- 14:28Speaker 1: has a commentary with the director George. I don't know Mohaka.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I think it's Mohaka. That is a commentary track.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Go with that.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Yeah, safe bet if anybody hears us jacking up names,
- 14:44Speaker 1: just let.
- 14:44Speaker 3: It be all right. Sorry, it's okay.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And we're gonna be We're gonna have a guest on
- 14:50Speaker 1: that too. We're gonna have my buddy Stephen from After
- 14:52Speaker 1: Hours Video. He's going to be on that show with us,
- 14:55Speaker 1: so I'm very excited to have him. What's your thoughts
- 14:58Speaker 1: on My Bloody Valentine?
- 15:01Speaker 2: That is a great slasher flick. I remember watching that
- 15:05Speaker 2: for the first time few years ago. Of course, it
- 15:08Speaker 2: was around Valentine's Day when I finally watched it, And yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 2: I enjoyed it very much. It was no all around great.
- 15:18Speaker 1: That movie goes incredibly hard for nineteen eighty one, yes,
- 15:22Speaker 1: it does.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Like yet that's the same.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Year as is that Friday Thirteenth, Part.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Two nineteen eighty one. I think.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I want to say so yeah, I want to say
- 15:35Speaker 1: probably nineteen eighty one. I think was Friday thirteenth, Part
- 15:38Speaker 1: two and My Body Valentine. Obviously, without going too much
- 15:41Speaker 1: into it, Cup Butchered by the MPAA has a bunch
- 15:44Speaker 1: of crazy death scenes, crazy kill scenes and the screen
- 15:49Speaker 1: factory blu ray that we're going to be taking the
- 15:50Speaker 1: commentary from restored those that footage. And now the movie's
- 15:57Speaker 1: finally complete, So I'm hoping the commentary really digs into that.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm hoping it
- 16:02Speaker 1: really digs into that that drama and kind of talks
- 16:05Speaker 1: about the cut, gore and stuff like that and gets
- 16:09Speaker 1: into the nitty gritty. So, yes, that's what I'm hoping for.
- 16:13Speaker 1: But my Bloody Valentine, and there might, depending on the schedule,
- 16:17Speaker 1: there might be a bonus episode for the remake.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Let's keep that.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Let's keep that between us though, seeing us and the listeners, yeah, nobody,
- 16:26Speaker 1: nobody tell us, all don't tell anybody. It's not like
- 16:29Speaker 1: it's on the internet or anything. And then I think
- 16:32Speaker 1: for that episode too, Man, I know I have a
- 16:36Speaker 1: lifelong Valentine, she's called my wife, but you I don't
- 16:41Speaker 1: know if you, I don't know if you have a Valentine.
- 16:44Speaker 3: This year.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Man, So I suspect that you will be at uh
- 16:48Speaker 1: at Walgreens picking up some chocolates.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Okay, we'll find out. See only time will tell.
- 16:56Speaker 3: That's a bad.
- 16:58Speaker 1: The rest of my life, I will always at Walgreens
- 17:01Speaker 1: the day after Valentine's Day buying clearance chocolate. Okay, Oh,
- 17:05Speaker 1: of course not. Let's not get ourselves there. H So
- 17:11Speaker 1: heading into March, this was one of your picks, man, So,
- 17:15Speaker 1: so tell me and tell the audience why you went
- 17:18Speaker 1: with House of a Thousand Corpses.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Oh man, all right, So I remember seeing this for
- 17:26Speaker 2: the first time at a video rental store, and you know,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I didn't really know too much about it. I kind
- 17:37Speaker 2: of went in blind, Like I don't remember seeing any
- 17:39Speaker 2: commercials or anything for it, but I picked it up. No,
- 17:43Speaker 2: and I might like it because Rob Zombie, big Rob
- 17:45Speaker 2: Zombie fan, grabbed it, watched it. It was fucking nuts.
- 17:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 2: That movie is crazy and oh yeah, I just definitely
- 17:58Speaker 2: something I want to to talk about on this podcast,
- 18:01Speaker 2: especially with the commentary being done by Rob Zombie himself. Yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 2: and that guy just want I just want to hear
- 18:09Speaker 2: the bat shit stuff that he talks about with this movie.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Dude, that guy gives really good talk. It's like Kevin
- 18:15Speaker 1: Smith and him are just such great speakers.
- 18:20Speaker 3: It's awesome.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Man, he's so good on that episode. We're gonna have
- 18:24Speaker 1: my buddy Brian from last movie standing and he messaged
- 18:28Speaker 1: me today and he was like, I could talk forever
- 18:30Speaker 1: about that movie. So we'll see if that's our longest
- 18:33Speaker 1: episode might be. I know that I'm really interested to
- 18:38Speaker 1: hear if he talks about all the drama between how
- 18:43Speaker 1: it it shot with another studio and it got he
- 18:45Speaker 1: had to buy it back.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I hope that's what it was supposed to go through.
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it was supposed to be through Universal first correct,
- 18:52Speaker 2: and then I ended up not wanting to do it
- 18:54Speaker 2: with him.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it got shelved, and I think I'm pretty sure
- 18:59Speaker 1: if I remember, I think zomb you had to buy
- 19:00Speaker 1: it back and then or I think it was like
- 19:03Speaker 1: in in you know, partnership with with Lionsgate for distribution
- 19:07Speaker 1: and now look at like that movie's huge, and I
- 19:11Speaker 1: personally I think the Devil's Rejects is kind of his king,
- 19:14Speaker 1: his like Magnum Opus. But yeah, House of a Thousand
- 19:18Speaker 1: Corpses is great. I can't wait to hear that commentary.
- 19:22Speaker 1: That's gonna be a really really fun one. So definitely,
- 19:27Speaker 1: And and we'll be taking bets on how long that
- 19:29Speaker 1: episode is.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Okay, we'll see.
- 19:32Speaker 1: There is no I don't really have like set time
- 19:36Speaker 1: frames for episodes, as long as the conversation is good. Uh,
- 19:41Speaker 1: you know, we can go on and on and on
- 19:43Speaker 1: for all I care. So House of a Thousand Corpses
- 19:48Speaker 1: heading into April, we have a fun one. You know, April,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it's getting warm outside, the weather is changing, leaves are
- 19:57Speaker 1: sprouting from the trees, and killer clown are arriving from
- 20:01Speaker 1: outer space. Yeah, that's right, you guessed it. Killer clowns
- 20:05Speaker 1: from outer space. This is the commentary with the Chiota brothers.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Uh was this I don't know was this my pick
- 20:12Speaker 1: or your pick?
- 20:13Speaker 2: I believe I picked this one. Yeah, you let me
- 20:16Speaker 2: pick a two in a row. So what's House of
- 20:18Speaker 2: the Thound Corpses? And then I also picked color clowns
- 20:20Speaker 2: from outer space?
- 20:22Speaker 1: Dude, you made me sound like a little our draft.
- 20:26Speaker 1: The way you said that made me sound like a dictator.
- 20:28Speaker 1: You're like, oh, yeah, he let me pick two in
- 20:30Speaker 1: a row.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Well, I mean you picked the first two and then
- 20:34Speaker 2: you let me pick two following that, it's all it's
- 20:37Speaker 2: all fair around here, I worded it very weird.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of killer clowns from outer space.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I know that obviously clearly you are the Chiota Brothers.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Dude.
- 20:51Speaker 1: The Chiota Brothers are are great to listen to. This
- 20:54Speaker 1: is a true passion project movie for them, and I
- 20:57Speaker 1: have listened to this commentary before.
- 20:59Speaker 3: It's very very good.
- 21:00Speaker 1: There's a ton of info in there, so I'm sure
- 21:03Speaker 1: that's gonna be a hell of an episode. And on
- 21:05Speaker 1: that episode, our guest is actually gonna be my buddy Robbie.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He has a YouTube channel miles of horror fantastic stuff
- 21:13Speaker 1: over there. He kind of was one of the early
- 21:17Speaker 1: people to respond to the guest thing, and this was
- 21:19Speaker 1: what this was the one that he picked. He wasn't
- 21:21Speaker 1: like shoehorned into this one. He was like, I want
- 21:23Speaker 1: to do kill a Clowns And I was like, yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 1: hell yeah, good, pick good pick. So Kevin Clouds, Dude,
- 21:31Speaker 1: that's gonna be so much fun, especially that time, that
- 21:34Speaker 1: time of year. I feel like that's that's very fitting,
- 21:38Speaker 1: very very sure. So it's more fitting to the time
- 21:42Speaker 1: of the year than I think may it's getting warmer.
- 21:46Speaker 1: We're getting in those really hot temperatures, and that's when
- 21:48Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about Mary Lambert's Pet Cemetery too.
- 21:54Speaker 1: With the director Mary Lambert on the commentary, we were
- 21:57Speaker 1: just talking about this beforehand.
- 21:59Speaker 3: You have not seen this.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I have not seen this movie at all, dude.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I feel like this is a bit of a radical pick.
- 22:06Speaker 1: I feel like this was us, kind of like, I
- 22:08Speaker 1: feel like this was me being like, I don't know
- 22:11Speaker 1: how many people.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Have seen this.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I don't know how many people like this movie. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: love this movie. I'm hoping to really reach the rejects
- 22:16Speaker 1: of the world with this one also too, though not
- 22:21Speaker 1: to get too deep because we still have more to
- 22:23Speaker 1: talk about, but Mary Lambert directed the first Pet Cemetery,
- 22:28Speaker 1: had a whole bunch of control put over her. She
- 22:32Speaker 1: couldn't do everything she wanted to do, and she was
- 22:36Speaker 1: very vocal about the issues on set shooting that movie.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Pet Cemetery too.
- 22:42Speaker 1: However, though they let her go full rain and it's
- 22:45Speaker 1: a better movie for it. So I'm part of the
- 22:50Speaker 1: let the directors have their vision side of things, So
- 22:55Speaker 1: very very stoked for that, and.
- 22:58Speaker 2: As my.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Yeah, dude, Pet Cemetery. It's it's crazy, man, because I
- 23:03Speaker 1: feel like, did you see pet Cemetery Bloodlines?
- 23:08Speaker 2: I don't believe so. I think I've only seen the
- 23:11Speaker 2: first film.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it came.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It went straight to Paramount last year. I think I
- 23:16Speaker 1: want to say, uh, it's okay. It's a franchise that
- 23:20Speaker 1: I feel like could be really good. They just haven't
- 23:25Speaker 1: figured out, uh, the sauce yet, you know, Yeah, which
- 23:29Speaker 1: is really interesting because the idea is kind of timeless.
- 23:33Speaker 1: You can just hey, here's a cemetery that magically awakens
- 23:38Speaker 1: animals when buried there, they wake up different. We bury
- 23:40Speaker 1: a human out of desperate and out of loss and grief,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and then that human comes back. I feel like that's
- 23:45Speaker 1: pretty It's a pretty simple concept to grasp. But just
- 23:48Speaker 1: do that again and make it cool and you've got.
- 23:51Speaker 3: A good movie.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, right, easy enough.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Uh So I asked you, man, what's your what's your
- 24:00Speaker 1: thoughts on summer camp?
- 24:03Speaker 2: Well, I've never been to a summer camp myself, and
- 24:06Speaker 2: there's a reason for that. I was always afraid of
- 24:08Speaker 2: a certain somebody coming out of the woods to kill me.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Jason Vorhees, Yeah, I guess he can go by that. Yeah,
- 24:15Speaker 2: but uh, but we're gonna talk about a different person
- 24:20Speaker 2: that goes by the name of a cropsy.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Oh, the Burning.
- 24:25Speaker 1: So yeah, oh man, all right, So I asked you
- 24:29Speaker 1: a follow up question, what do you think about playing
- 24:32Speaker 1: baseball in a crop top T shirt?
- 24:37Speaker 2: You will never never see me in a crop top
- 24:39Speaker 2: T shirt, That's all I'm gonna say.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Oh my god, did Jason Alexander? I don't know, is
- 24:47Speaker 3: his Is his T shirt cropped?
- 24:52Speaker 2: Might it might as well be? Y?
- 24:54Speaker 3: It should be?
- 24:56Speaker 2: Might as well be?
- 24:57Speaker 1: You would think, like, what the hell was sizing on
- 25:00Speaker 1: T shirts in the eighties?
- 25:01Speaker 3: Man, I don't know, I don't know.
- 25:06Speaker 1: But yeah, we're talking about times different times. We're talking
- 25:12Speaker 1: about the Burning. And this is a commentary track with
- 25:14Speaker 1: the director Tony Maylamb and a journalist, film journalist Alan Jones.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I'm sure we're gonna be talking more about him as
- 25:23Speaker 1: as the years go on. We talk about more commentaries.
- 25:25Speaker 1: He's on a whole bunch of them. So very excited
- 25:28Speaker 1: for that, and that very excited for the guest. We're
- 25:31Speaker 1: gonna have my buddy Mark from Tales from the Shelf on,
- 25:35Speaker 1: one of my favorite guys to watch on YouTube. I
- 25:38Speaker 1: preach all the time, talk more about movies, Like I
- 25:43Speaker 1: love physical media. There's a place to talk about that,
- 25:45Speaker 1: but let's discuss movies. And that guy does that tenfold.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So very excited to have him on for that, And
- 25:53Speaker 1: I thought that was a perfect kind of like, you know,
- 25:57Speaker 1: beginning of summer, A good little that's a good that's
- 26:01Speaker 1: a good one.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Man.
- 26:02Speaker 1: What do you what do you one more question about
- 26:04Speaker 1: the burning? What do you think about what do you
- 26:07Speaker 1: think about fire pranks?
- 26:12Speaker 2: Don't do them, especially on a sleep in person.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh my god, this is gonna be
- 26:22Speaker 1: a This is gonna be fun, man, this is gonna
- 26:25Speaker 1: be a whole lot of fun.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah. I can't wait. I can't wait to start recording
- 26:30Speaker 2: these episodes. Steve Dude.
- 26:32Speaker 1: So that's our lineup through June. Those have been announced,
- 26:35Speaker 1: we've talked about them on social media, We've obtained our
- 26:39Speaker 1: guests for that. So those are gonna be a ton
- 26:40Speaker 1: of fun. We're also working on I think I think
- 26:43Speaker 1: we can talk about it now.
- 26:44Speaker 3: We're working on.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Doing a summer special. I think so far we're gonna
- 26:52Speaker 1: call it arts Christmas. In July and July and August,
- 26:57Speaker 1: we're gonna be covering all three terrifying movies, which is
- 27:00Speaker 1: really cool. I mean, I know those are kind of
- 27:03Speaker 1: like the big hip trendy thing right now, but I
- 27:05Speaker 1: dig them. I love what they're doing with those movies.
- 27:07Speaker 1: So you're not gonna hear me out way.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Did you see Terrified three? I have?
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yes, fucking brutal crazy right, so crazy the shower kill,
- 27:20Speaker 2: That's that's the one that got me. I don't do
- 27:22Speaker 2: well with broken bones. And you know what happens in
- 27:26Speaker 2: that scene with the leg just snapping in half. Oh
- 27:30Speaker 2: you ever broke up in my eyes? Man? I have never,
- 27:34Speaker 2: and I'm glad for that.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Yeah, neither of I We got something in common. Man,
- 27:40Speaker 1: Now we hear hold on. Here's a weird question to follow.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Did you drink a lot of milk as a kid?
- 27:45Speaker 2: I did?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Okay, same, I love milk. That's what it is. Guys,
- 27:49Speaker 1: don't drink milk as a kid. You won't break any
- 27:52Speaker 1: bones in your thirties.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Pretty good.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Uh, But then also too, we're working on second half
- 27:58Speaker 1: of the year. I don't know, we haven't finalized what
- 28:04Speaker 1: movies we're gonna be able to cover on this, but
- 28:06Speaker 1: we're gonna be doing Beyond the Blood Reanimated, and this
- 28:11Speaker 1: year is the fortieth anniversary of Stuart Gordon's re Animator,
- 28:15Speaker 1: one of my favorite movies of all time, which we
- 28:17Speaker 1: will be covering. But we're also gonna be covering a
- 28:21Speaker 1: pretty wide assortment of Stuart Gordon movies as well, So
- 28:25Speaker 1: more news on that to come. Right now, let's focus
- 28:27Speaker 1: on the six movies that we have all recap them
- 28:30Speaker 1: real quick. We're gonna be doing the Spider Labyrinth in January,
- 28:36Speaker 1: my Bloody Valentine in February, House of a Thousand Corpses
- 28:38Speaker 1: in March, Killer Clowns from Matter Space in April, pet
- 28:41Speaker 1: Cemetery to in May, and in June we're gonna put
- 28:44Speaker 1: a cap on the season with the Burning How's that sound.
- 28:47Speaker 3: To you, man?
- 28:49Speaker 2: It sounds great. I can't wait.
- 28:51Speaker 1: So much fun, man, it's gonna be so much fun.
- 28:54Speaker 1: So now that we kind of have like the main
- 28:59Speaker 1: you know that stuff over, I want to say that
- 29:04Speaker 1: this is a pretty extreme passion project for us, and
- 29:08Speaker 1: I don't want this episode to get too long. But
- 29:11Speaker 1: the goal with this show for me is to ignite
- 29:18Speaker 1: new discussion and to create new conversation and to kind
- 29:25Speaker 1: of be something fresh in the landscape, even though there's
- 29:30Speaker 1: plenty of amazing podcasts that talk about movies, I'm really
- 29:33Speaker 1: hoping channeling the commentaries will create new conversation and and
- 29:40Speaker 1: and just interesting points of discussion. You know, just what
- 29:45Speaker 1: we learned in a Spider Labyrinth commentary was enough for
- 29:50Speaker 1: me to really get excited because doing these things like
- 29:53Speaker 1: you have your reservations, you have your hope or your
- 29:56Speaker 1: worries and your hopes on on the on the contrary,
- 30:00Speaker 1: but I know that I know that there are people
- 30:05Speaker 1: out there like us who will listen to shows like
- 30:08Speaker 1: this and want to learn. And my hope is, especially
- 30:13Speaker 1: with a show like Spider Labyrinth where not many people
- 30:15Speaker 1: have seen that, I'm hoping that people check into the episode,
- 30:21Speaker 1: say this sounds incredible, I have to watch this. They
- 30:24Speaker 1: go and watch it, They come back to our show,
- 30:27Speaker 1: and they're able to get that full in depth breakdown
- 30:30Speaker 1: in a full in depth discussion, and hopefully these episodes
- 30:35Speaker 1: become some of the most comprehensive and in depth discussions
- 30:39Speaker 1: on these movies ever done in podcasting. That's kind of
- 30:44Speaker 1: my hope. And I know that's a big hope, and
- 30:46Speaker 1: I don't know how you feel about it, but you know,
- 30:49Speaker 1: I don't want to. I don't ever do anything out
- 30:51Speaker 1: of wanting to be the best, And I don't want
- 30:53Speaker 1: this podcast to be the best. I just want this
- 30:55Speaker 1: podcast to be reliable in showing the past that we
- 31:01Speaker 1: have and and continuing, as I've said a million times,
- 31:06Speaker 1: good discussion about movies. That's all I want. If that
- 31:11Speaker 1: makes any sense.
- 31:13Speaker 2: No, I'm right there with you one hundred percent.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Good. Good to know, Yeah, good to know, good to know.
- 31:21Speaker 2: What's your If that's the.
- 31:24Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead, Like what's your like when you when
- 31:26Speaker 1: you look at the show and you kind of create
- 31:28Speaker 1: goals in your head, what do you know? What do
- 31:31Speaker 1: you see out of it?
- 31:35Speaker 2: Well? I see I see myself learning more about the
- 31:39Speaker 2: genre that we love now and like you said before,
- 31:44Speaker 2: having an outlet to like geek out about the thing
- 31:48Speaker 2: that we love, the genre horror. Yeah, that's like the
- 31:52Speaker 2: thing I'm looking forward to the most out of this show,
- 31:54Speaker 2: just learning more and being able to geek out about
- 31:59Speaker 2: this kind of stuf.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, film, you know, like like music, like any
- 32:05Speaker 1: other art, it's it's prime for discussion, and I feel
- 32:09Speaker 1: like there has to be it has to be discussed
- 32:14Speaker 1: and revisited over and over and over again. And if
- 32:18Speaker 1: it's your type of thing to listen to, you know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: deep analysis and stuff, then this is the show for you.
- 32:25Speaker 1: And if it's not your thing to listen to deep
- 32:27Speaker 1: analysis and you just kind of want a fresh take
- 32:29Speaker 1: on a movie, this is also to show for you.
- 32:32Speaker 1: And also the goal is to have fun, right, Like
- 32:35Speaker 1: we want to have fun, have on good guests, have
- 32:39Speaker 1: a good time. This is essentially this is like a
- 32:42Speaker 1: campfire that I'm sitting around with a friend bullshitting about movies.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I could do it all night and have no worries,
- 32:51Speaker 1: and that kind of sounds like a perfect I've never
- 32:55Speaker 1: been a summer camp, but I feel like that would
- 32:57Speaker 1: be my prime summer camp experience.
- 32:58Speaker 3: I think some hot dogs may.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Yeah, a couple of hot dogs and some ghost stores.
- 33:05Speaker 3: Oh sounds good. Sounds good.
- 33:08Speaker 1: So as of now, we are one day away from
- 33:11Speaker 1: recording our Spider Labyrinth podcast. This is gonna go live
- 33:15Speaker 1: if all is well tomorrow, which is Monday the sixth.
- 33:19Speaker 1: We are a day away from recording the Spider Labyrinth
- 33:22Speaker 1: episode with Ryan. That'll go live probably about a week later,
- 33:27Speaker 1: and then from there we'll see it's gonna be it's
- 33:31Speaker 1: gonna be an exciting ride. And I hope that. I
- 33:34Speaker 1: hope people hop on and kind of come along with
- 33:37Speaker 1: us and and and join the discussion. And I think
- 33:40Speaker 1: it's gonna be fun. Man, I'm excited.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree, it's gonna be a blast time. Like
- 33:45Speaker 2: I said, I'm looking forward to doing all this. It's
- 33:49Speaker 2: gonna be fun.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Sick hell yeah, man, I'm very, very very stoked. I
- 33:55Speaker 1: started this episode nervous, won't lie. I've loosened up. I
- 33:59Speaker 1: feel better now. Is the anxiety about getting an editing
- 34:02Speaker 1: and hopefully everything is okay.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm still in the nervous stage, but I'll come
- 34:08Speaker 2: out of my shell as the episodes go on, So
- 34:12Speaker 2: be patient with me.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Yes, sir, Yeah, that's what that's all it's about.
- 34:15Speaker 1: So for anybody listening to this, we don't have an
- 34:18Speaker 1: Instagram page for the show just yet. I kind of
- 34:20Speaker 1: want to hold off on that until we kind of
- 34:22Speaker 1: establish some episodes and kind of establish a little bit
- 34:25Speaker 1: of a routine. But you can catch me over on Instagram.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Bearded film guy, very simple, Bearded film guy. Exactly how
- 34:33Speaker 1: it's spelled, Chuck. What is your Instagram handle?
- 34:36Speaker 2: My Instagram is Chuck underscore savage. I can't believe I
- 34:42Speaker 2: just butchered that. My nerves, my nerves are still going,
- 34:44Speaker 2: would be Chuck underscore savage. Savage is spelled s A
- 34:48Speaker 2: V I D G E.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Awesome, awesome.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I'm sure we'll put that in the show notes just
- 34:53Speaker 2: so no one misspells it.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it'll be on there, for sure, it'll be
- 34:57Speaker 1: on there. But for everybody listening, thank you for hanging out.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Coming to the inauguratory episode. This is this could be
- 35:03Speaker 1: a historic landmark. One day, this when the show takes
- 35:06Speaker 1: off and we're you know, this could be a relic.
- 35:10Speaker 2: That'd be cool.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That would be cool, That would be cool.
- 35:13Speaker 1: So to everybody out there, we'll catch you on the
- 35:16Speaker 1: next episode. Stay creepy, y'all.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Thanks for listening. H
